Was tempted to make a video to show more than tell and still might, but things are still very, very early and always subject to change.
My previous Japanese language study is obviously giving me a big head start. Knew this would be the case when I went to Taiwan a couple of times and could recognize more than a few words which really helped me get around. Obviously pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar would be radically different, but I was also aware of that. The unknown traditional Hanzi (focusing on that since it's easier given my Japanese study background) will not be the main problem, just the tones and pronunciation and thousands of words using those Hanzi.
Also, I have the benefit of going in with a set plan based on my own experience learning (and re-learning) Japanese using self-study tools: Anki, text analyzers, browser plug-ins, audio books, pop-up dictionaries, etc.
Current plan is as follows: Do the first 90 lessons of the older Pimsleur Mandarin course with serious supplementation:

• Anki - I'm using a transcript (complete for Mandarin I Lessons 1 - 30) and webpage with vocabulary and starting dialogue for all 90 lessons to generate the cards. They'll have English, PinYin, Simplified and Traditional for both the vocabulary and an example sentence. The cards will be two per word - PinYin word/sentence (audio recognition, but I'm not bothering with actual audio for Pimsleur), and English word/Clozed traditional hanzi sentence (production where preferably the English word would instead be an image/Chinese definition).
  
• Trimsleur - My term for taking Pimsleur lessons and removing the English prompts and long pauses with two second pauses. For a 30 minute lesson, I have a 10 minute pure Chinese audio that's also comprehensible. Meant for comprehensible audio immersion (and repeating/shadowing).
  
• ACHTT - stands for "All Chinese Half The Time" which is my term for Ken Cannon's suggestion to watch every episode of a show in Japanese twice: once w/ English subs for the comprehension, then once more w/ Chinese subs or no subs for the immersion. I take it one step further by ripping the audio with a program uses the subtitles to remove long non-spoken portions (CIA or compressed immersion audio).
  

So current plan just for the 90 Pimsleur lessons is:

1. Review due Anki. For these, I have strict fail and soft fail rules for each card type. "Audio" cards (PinYin word/sentence) I have to know which hanzi are used and the meaning of the word - this is a strict fail. The soft fail (I hit "hard" UNLESS the spacing will be over 6 months) is the stroke order of the hanzi and meaning of the example sentence. The Clozed Delete card I also have know the Mandarin word, it's hanzi, and it's tone for the strict fail. The stroke order and meaning/reading of the clozed deleted Mandarin sentence is a soft fail.
   
2. Do the Pimsleur lesson with the transcript (in part I at least). Pause to initially answer the English prompt then play and repeat the Chinese phrase. When the new word is introduced, go to it's Anki card to add pronunciation notes (the transcript has a few pages of charts for this) along with HanziHero as needed for Hanzi meanings and notes (super important for Hanzi that are new to me). Now, Pimsleur is normally a 30 minute lesson, but doing it this way makes it last about an hour or so.
   
3. Activate the new vocabulary in Anki (custom study option) and see how much is remembered. I set cards to long learning time (1m 10m 1440m 3600m) with graduation done at 1 week. This is also great because Pimsleur cannot tell if I remembered anything or not and balance accordingly. Anki can.
   
4. Watch one episode of Peppa Pig Mandarin at 75% speed with English sub, then rewatch with traditional Chinese subs. Peppa Pig is slowed down because the normal episodes are sped up on purpose in most languages. Any other show I would likely leave at original speed.
   
5. Update my comprehensible immersion audio playlist. It'd be 4 copies of today's Trimsleur lesson, 3 copies of yesterday, 2 copies of two days ago, and 1 copy of three days ago (so Lesson 8 x4, Lesson 7 x3, Lesson 6 x2, Lesson 5 x1). In addition, it'd be the last four days of Peppa Pig ripped audio. This is about two hours of audio in total. I then play these on random, and the most recent lessons are played more often.
   

The comprehensible audio is played a lot of the time passively in the background. I can be doing anything else and not notice, but it'll be there whenever I do take a aural snack (pay attention to what's being played). I DO NOT want to repeat the major mistake in my early Japanese study of playing incomprehensible Japanese audio (rips of TV shows I watched) near 24/7. Found out that comprehensible that frequently refreshed is key to training your brain to follow along without thinking as well as repeat without effort.
Again, I'm only on lesson 8 with a handful of vocabulary words under my belt. Still, I can read aloud all eight of the introductory dialogues in traditional Mandarin. I'm also noticing the words as they pop up in Peppa Pig.
Gonna hate moving on to Pimsleur Mandarin part II as there's no transcript. However, there are websites that'll transcribe the Trimsleur audio (and maybe even the Pimsleur if I wanted) which'll simplify doing the lessons like I'm doing now.
After Pimsleur, I plan to do deep dive study methods (read subtitles along with Chinese subs, pausing only to look up meaning of unknown words and phrases), then after 10 hours of reading (at beginning stages this might be only 1 hour of actual Chinese audio) use subs with MorphMan in Anki to get 100 most common words that are within my learned vocab range. All that means is if I know 1,500 words then MorphMan will only look for new words from 3,000 most common that's also the most common in the read material stopping at 100 new words if that before starting reading up again.
Hopefully this all makes sense. Like with Japanese, I'll freely share whatever resources I can and answer whatever questions people have (if I have time). Obviously I'm in the beginning stages so maybe don't expect much.

Sorry this is long.
So, last week a few things happened. Had an old couch hauled away, which my 2 cats used to enjoy sleeping under and behind. I then rented a carpet cleaner. Did the whole house. Before this, since about late 2020, I had out of box pee incidents as well. 2 on my bed (Mattress protector and bedding saved me there), one in the corner of my bedroom. All of these coincided with trips away. The cat in question frequently sleeps in my bedroom and unless its me, hides there when someone is here. What didn't help was that while on telework for the covid stuff, I was the only one home 24/7 and while my go-to pet sitter knew them as kittens, over a year went by where they never saw her. The one cat in question basically sleeps all day in my room. So, when i started taking trips to see friends and family again, I chalked the incidents to him being spooked to come out.
Cut to now. Couch gone, loud machine present. He pees once while I'm upstairs using the machine, which is also where the litter boxes are. So, he pees. I think, ok, scary machine. He had to go. Not happy he peed on a just cleaned floor but ok. Douse it in a enzyme cleaner I still had. The smell of that stuff is honestly worse than the pee smell. Machine goes back. He has now peed 4 MORE times since. 3 in the vicinity of the 1st one, 1 up ion my bedroom in the corner that has been clean and incident free since those trips. I started closing my door for trips so that he was forced to stay downstairs, which seemed to have worked because he stopped hiding on her.
Now I'm a bit freaked out. So I called my vet. I get told i should bring him in to be checked for urinary issues, but they are booked solid and I was put on a "fit in" list. This feels outrageous. They book SO tight they cant be available for a potential emergency? Just this morning I located what I think were 2 MORE accidents. Again, in the vicinity of what I THOUGHT were cleaned up living room messes.
I'm at my wits end. I don't know what to do to make it stop. They have two large, regularly cleaned boxes upstairs. Hell they used to be perfectly fine sharing ONE. I know its # of cats +1. My house layout SUCKS for that. I can only fit these 2 top entry boxes where they are now. The entire bottom floor is an "open" floorplan with a stupid tiny half bath. There's literally nowhere down there for one that isn't just in the middle of the room. If this isn't a temporary urinary tract issue, then I have no idea what to do. Add to that i have a brand new couch arriving Thursday and I may lose it if he pees on THAT. I also don't know if I should start calling other vets/hospitals to get him in today. I'm kind of pissed my current vet has given me ZERO idea of when they might be available and in the meantime he may keep on peeing everywhere. I was already annoyed they switched my cats from a 3 year to 1 year rabies booster. Still feels like an odd cash grab or something but that's another issue.
I need help. Should I drop this vet? If its NOT a urinary issue, what in the hell do I do short of ripping up the carpet to ditch every trace of previous accidents. (a switch to LVP was planned but there's no way in hell that happens till at least next spring).

I am seeking some advise. My girlfriend was bitten by a black widow spider and is in the hospital. She lives in Bucharest, Romania and I am in Atlanta, GA so it’s not a quick or inexpensive trip. Her family does not support her but luckily her best friend has been there to watch her cat and visit her daily. It’s been 72 hours since the bite and she has slowly been improving, we thought she might be released today but her heart rate is all over the place so they want to keep her a couple more days. My big dilemma is if I go to be with her now that pushes back all of our plans for our wedding and getting paperwork started with lawyers. I only have so many vacation days and I have been saving them for our wedding in Gibraltar. Also I don’t even know if they would let me see her for more than a few minutes each day. Her friend has been extremely helpful, updating me and she plans to stay with her for a couple weeks if necessary. She keeps asking about me and if I am coming or not. I don’t want her to think I don’t care because I don’t fly out and I don’t want to delay our goals. What would you do?

Some Context: I (31F) live with my partner (28F) and cat in the separate guest section of her parents house, which we pay them rent on. We currently don’t have the finances to live on our own and have been living here for the most part comfortably for the past year and a half.
On Saturday FIL came by to fix our toilet and shower, which had been an issue for a while. He apparently had quite a lot to say about our way of living to MIL.
So, just yesterday my partner got in a fight with my MIL. She went over to the main house to return some tools that FIL left behind and MIL took it as an opportunity to lecture her about our life and ME. Now, previously to this convo I never had any issues with her, and in fact had helped my partner get her a nice gift for mothers day so this came as a shock. We got her a lego set from Costco.
In my room and office area (I work from home), I have hanging corner toy hammocks that store my collection of plushies which I have from over the years of being independent. My partner also has a smaller collection herself. I am estranged from my family, who as a kid made me get rid of all my beloved toys and plushes which honestly still devastate me to this day. My plushies are really valuable to me, and my partner has no issue with them in fact says they are cute.
MIL says otherwise and that instead I should just donate all my plushies to charity or kids in need, or kids in hospitals that could really use them. She also says that we should stop shopping from Costco and instead but only from Target becase “its cheaper”, which is just another tacked on useless piece of advice imo as we generally go to several stores depending on whats overall priced the best for what we need. This shocked and honestly infuriated me because it instantly reminded me of my childhood and I fear this is the start of another toxic cycle where parents try to dictate my life. Also the very nerve of her to talk about me behind my back to my partner is a problem in itself.
I was so upset I honestly wanted to go over there myself so I could give her a piece of my mind… But my partner convinced me to calm down and think of an actual plan or way to respond first. Our livelihood still depends on living here, after all, and we want to keep the peace. But I do NOT want this to start a pattern of them telling me how to live my life and kind of want to nip this in the bud, so to speak.
I’m open to any advice on what to say to her and what to do, honestly.. Aside from just doing what she says, obviously.

Trust me, I get the love of “fur babies”,but so many stray dogs/cats in rescue being put down all over our country bc of it. $300+ per month on dog food, but no car? I've found a decent way to incorporate all the rumored plotpoints for "Spider-Man 4" right from the movie's start. These include: Kingpin, street-level, DareDevil, Black Cat, Scorpion & the symbiote.

• In the opening action sequence, Peter uncovers an illegal arms transportation from Central America to New York City, which has been disguised as a F.E.A.S.T. transport.
• The middleman for the arms deal is Mac Gargan. But this time, he's equipped with a makeshift exoskeleton of sorts that he has to wear since his first encounter with Spider-Man.
• Spidey stops the transport and defeats Gargan easily. However, his costume gets heavily damaged/tainted. Little does he know that there's not only dirt on his costume...
• An injured Gargan is picked up by a group of enforcers.
• Peter starts investigating the illegal transportation. He finds out that mayor Wilson Fisk is actually behind it all. He's looking to equip his Enforcers with weapons in order to take action against the city's illegal vigilantes like Spider-Man and DareDevil.
• Peter overhears that the next transfer will takes place in Hell's Kitchen. This is where he meets DareDevil. As both are targeted by Kingpin, they start working together.
• When the next transfer is about to take place, they come across another masked vigilante (insert joke about there really being too much of them and maybe they should let Kingpin do his thing). But this one's a woman. And she's actually not trying to stop the transfer, but instead stealing it.
• She introduces herself as Black Cat and reveals her plan to sell the weapons to Silvio Manfredi, who's trying to dethrone the Kingpin...

How would you continue the story?

So Saturday I got to 6 days sober and I was really proud of myself. I wasn’t planning on drinking but work was such a shit show that day it made me crave booze. I was proud of myself cause I left work w out buying any alcohol but when I left my house later that day to buy cat food before I knew it i was at the lcbo. I told myself I’d just drink that night but here we are Tuesday morning still drunk from drinking all day yesterday. I called off work cause I have another shift at my second job later today and I knew I couldn’t do both shifts feeling the way I do right now. Im just frustrated cause it happens all the time, im sober and doing really well for almost a week then I drink and go on a bender for a few days. Does anyone have any tips to deal with cravings? I feel like if i could just get better at powering through my cravings then i can stay sober

So i just recently got a kitten (6 weeks old) yea she came with worms bc she was a stray but shes on dewormer now. I ONLY keep her in my room with a bunch of toys and little hiding spots that she loves. I live in a house with my brothers family and they are starting to believe my nephew is allergic to the cat. Hed be running to the bathroom to throw up throughout the day lately with no apparent reason. But in the past has had trouble breathing/ coughing in his sleep and theyre trying to get him on a nebulizer. I genuinely dont think those symptoms are from the cat tbh bc a lot of these are just preexisting conditions that are getting worse? I have the bottom part of my door sealed and a $250 air purifier in my room with the widow open just in case. I also clean the litter everyday. (actual im a clean freak) Ive never seen “allergies”this bad before just for a cat? Id like to say its because of other factors like them vaping in front of the kid or like a diet? What Does 'Have a Plan' look like?
We hear it often enough in the sub. "Have a plan" or "DCA" or even "DYOR" but what does that look like. For me, this is what, 'have a plan' looks like. Feel free to add any extra wisdom or lessons learned as well.
1- First step was the DYOR phase or determine what project to invest in. For fairly safe and sure price growth, Eth and BTC are two good bets. They're essentially the 'blue chips' of the crypto space and if you get confused or overwhelmed by all of the projects and the terminology, they're a good starting point. White papers are a great read though they can be technically daunting. Development plans or cycles help as well, like the bitcoin halving cycle / calendar or Eth development plan.
2- Second step is determine how much you can afford to invest that wouldn't break you if you lost it. This is the 'don't invest more than you can afford to lose' phase. Be honest and serious about your budget. For me, it's 250$ every two weeks out of each paycheck, with an additional bump whenever I get unexpected stuff, like a tax return or a small bonus this year, making sure not to stretch out or expand debt to be able to invest.
2.5 - We are here. You might still be DCA in or you might be holding to DCA but either way, both steps 2 and 3 are important.
3- Third step is determine your exit price. This will be the price at which you start to DCA out or phase out your profits. By DCA out, you ensure you're not just taking whatever the price is at the time of exit but averaging it near your exit price. For example, for me, I have a few Eth that will be DCA out ~10k. I'll take my profit on them in that range.
Having that price target in mind really helps with FOMO because knowing that i'm not selling til 10k means that right now, in the crab bear market, the day to day actions of the price chart, don't mean much because I'm DCAing in until I hit that exit price.
4- Fourth step is expand that plan. By that I mean, like above, I've got a few ETH set aside to be sold at 10k. The rest will keep staking for longer term with an exit price of ~25k. That might be 2030 or 2035, but knowing that exit point again helps me ignore the daily charts.
Step 5 for me is HUGE in fighting FOMO or worry about missed potential profits
5- Step 5 is plan where those profits are gonna go. I know I'll set ~1/3 to taxes (overplanning in case), a good chunk to pay off debt, and we're planning a small add-on to the house that those profits will take care of. Having that plan made out helps you hold firm until that exit price as well. If I know I need to be around 10k to sell, it reinforces that I don't care if the price point is 3000 or 2000, because I'm not selling anytime soon.
6- Step 6 is plan for a small powder bag. One way I do this is keeping some USDC on one of the CEXs, nominally staked or yielding and earning a bit. Usually at a higher rate than a savings account. Im looking into learning saxophone as a complete beginner. Im mainly interested in learning some pop song melodies (ed sheeran, rihanna, … that kind of stuff lol).
I would like to learn this on my own online as saxophone lessons are extremely expensive where I live and mostly focused on classical.
Ive learned myself some pop songs on the piano through youtube tutorials with falling blocks where you had to hit the correct note. I was hoping to find something similar for the saxophone but without much luck so far.
Do you guys have any recommendations on this? Online resources, youtube channels etc? Or do you think its better to learn it with a teacher in person?
Also, how much time do you reckon it would take a beginner to learn a basic pop song on the saxophone? I plan on practicing 4-8 hours a week.

I'm so tired. I have a plan set for the end of this month because I just can't take it anymore. I have BP 2 and severe ADHD and it controls every aspect of my life. Meds don't work, therapy doesn't work. I'm 21 and can't think of a time I was ever being truly happy. Nothing brings me joy. I have 1yr experience in structured products sales across two major banks and the interaction between buy- and sell-side here is quite straightforward. The offer is from one of the so-called Partners/Brokers in the SSPA (e.g., AIS Financial Group, CAT Financial Products, Valeur Group, ...)
   
2. Salary and counter offer: I was offered CHF 65k for the role. The company is based in Pfäffikon SZ, but I plan to rent an apartment in Zurich. Given the cost of living in Zurich, what would be a reasonable counter offer? I had a look at the Swiss Statistics Institute data and I believe CHF 85k base + bonus would be acceptable.
