[Advice] How I trick my mind to staying disciplined, day after day

2024.05.22 04:12 Fit_Bee8519 [Advice] How I trick my mind to staying disciplined, day after day

You know how you get in a rut, wanting to get in shape, wanting to get better at something, just want to develop a new habit, and you tell yourself, "I'm going to workout everyday for the next month" "I'm going to do leetcode everyday" etc.? You get all hyped up, and you're super motivated, and you start crushing your goals the next day. Then a week goes by, 2 weeks, and that motivation starts to waver off, and you start skipping a day or two, and eventually it just fizzles out...
Motivation is so fickle, so emotional. It can feel so strong that you feel like it will last forever, but sooner or later, it's gone.
But your discipline can be hacked. A few months ago, I did this fitness challenge with a few friends where we all set goals for a set amount of time (30 min at the gym, 5 times a week, for a month). And we all put down $100 and put it in a pool. Everyone kept track of their workouts, and at the end, only those who succeeded in all their checkins split the pot. While the ones who failed in the middle lost their money. So the winners actually ended up making money.
It was incredibly motivating, the desire to not wanting to lose my $100. The original motivation for starting this challenge (wanting to get in shape) was replaced by the much more real motivation of not wanting to lose money. Money is funny that way, it's so much more real and tangible, it actually keeps you going way better than anything else.
Not to mention how fun the challenge was. We were kind of in competition with each other, trash talking and teasing to try and get the others to not work out. But at the same time it was teamwork. We genuinely wanted everyone to succeed.
Anyways, it was so effective and so fun that I ended up making an app for this. The cool thing about making this into an app is that you don't need to have an immediate group of friends with the same goal. We could create a community of people with goals, and strangers could come together online on the app and do challenges together.
The structure of the app is as follows:
Hope you find this helpful! The app is called Goalie, you can search it on the app stores.

2024.05.22 04:05 Fit_Bee8519 Habit building requires consistency and time. Here's how I trick myself to stay consistent and not quit prematurely

They say habits are only formed if you do it consistently for a good amount of time (eg 6 weeks). The problem is, if you're like me, I find myself getting bored or demotivated before the 6 weeks and end up fizzling out midway.
Recently I tried this thing to hack my mind to stay motivated. A few months ago, I did this fitness challenge with a few friends where we all set goals for a set amount of time (30 min at the gym, 5 times a week, for a month). 2024.05.21 23:46 the_dreammachine Ragdolls: Bringing my AI characters to life

Ragdolls: Bringing my AI characters to life
I've been a user of many AI chat platforms, both free and paid, even consulted for one of these companies. I started messing around with diffusion models a few weeks ago and figured I could hook them up to the LLM to create a visual role-play. I've seen a few attempts at this but nothing I would consider immersive. The major problem with generating images of characters is that they are not consistent from one image to the next. This sucks, it makes you feel like you are talking to a different character each time. The same goes for the character's clothing and their environment. You don't want the character to change clothes in each panel unless it's part of the roleplay.
After hacking away for a couple of weeks, I figured it out! Here are some screenshots from one of my rp sessions:
https://preview.redd.it/9tqhtymoku1d1.png?width=1620&format=png&auto=webp&s=50c25dde17803181ec1a4467966d2d9677c0fa99
https://preview.redd.it/ukbkhzmoku1d1.png?width=1668&format=png&auto=webp&s=3a3f95a2e5c1cf2e85d5900bb831465b5c4855d7
https://preview.redd.it/18mj8zmoku1d1.png?width=1648&format=png&auto=webp&s=d74b8dc62becbd6085a3bf43e744951ffb93ab56
Another thing to notice from the screenshots above is that the character's pose remains fairly consistent with the character's role-play actions.
If you bring different objects into the role-play world the character will interact with them:
https://preview.redd.it/hcuoxballu1d1.png?width=1670&format=png&auto=webp&s=ec9aed0459782b4be17fd0200248cb112ca3730b
https://preview.redd.it/7l6g7callu1d1.png?width=1666&format=png&auto=webp&s=acc67119f8ab28a48295b73f4448cd44b46556cf
They'll keep holding the object until explicitly instructed to discard/drop it.
It's like a mini-game engine.
I've figured out a ton of stuff but still have a few problems to solve:
  1. It's slow - Image generation takes anywhere from 5s to 30s+ depending on how busy the GPU is. Can be fixed by simply stacking more GPU power.
  2. The environment changes in each scene - This is pretty difficult to keep consistent, so I tend to use simple, plain backgrounds. I don't know a good solution for this yet.
  3. Inconsistent time of day - related to (2). The engine doesn't know what time of day to generate. I think a good fix would be to pass into the context the timestamp from a clock running in the RP world.
Just wanted to share my ideas and progress so far to get some feedback from the community. I'll be releasing a playable demo soon.
(Before you ask: Yes, it generates NSFW content in juicy detail).

Be wary of anyone who contacts you by dm or chat to join a discord or subreddit giving free donuts and items from the game or charging for these services. New ones are inexperienced and can break your town and cannot fix it and do not care. For some free recommendations go to and check the pinned post
Anyone who is selling items or donuts cash etc for this game are usually New to hacking games and so are inexperienced.
They are also in a hurry because they want to make more money. This means they will sell you whatever you want and do not care if it will break your town.
There are many items in this game that will destroy your town if placed in at the wrong time or too many of them etc. Please just be careful.

2024.05.21 21:58 Impressive_Dinner137 Father in law gets scammed in crypto

Hi all,
my father-in-law was the victim of a typical crypto scam. He is over 60 and started looking around on crypto portals and of course left personal contact information there. It didn't take long and a friendly guy, german speaking, got in touch and convinced him via telegram of a top investment in crypto. he transferred € 200. Everything went wonderfully and the 200 € were suddenly 400 € on his account (on a webapplication with no terms of use or anything professional).
you can probably guess the rest. over time, my father-in-law became so motivated that he even transferred over €25,000 in total.
Yesterday he told us about how good everything is going and we immediately realized what was going on.
After we told him, he tried to have a small amount withdrawed from his account. I told him to start with a small amount and let the scammers believe that he still trusts them. Very surprisingly, there are now problems with the payout. Of the €3000 requested, €500 have now been transferred. Well, at least a bit, but it's clear that this is just to build trust.
We have already been to the police and filed a complaint, they have all the necessary information but my hopes are very low that the fraudsters will be caught. they speak the same language as us (German) but are probably based abroad (according to them in Austria).
As already mentioned, the scammers still believe that my father-in-law trusts them. We have their phone numbers and bank accounts and he is in contact with them by chat and phone call.
Now the reason why I am turning to this community. Since I have little faith in the success of the police, I would like to try it myself. Since the scammers still trust him, I thought it could likely be that they would open a link from my father-in-law (with a corresponding story). If this link would be able to track his position, or even better to hack his camera, I'm hoping to threaten the scammers that if they don't transfer the money back, his identity will be handed over to the police etc. and generally scare them. I'm a software developer myself, but I really have no idea about cybersecurity.
What would you guys recommend? Are there any (really trusted) hacker portals I can try to find someone who could help me? How much effort does it take to program such a script/virus, is an advanced developer with 5 years experience in languages like R, Java able to develop something like this with existing help platforms/tools? What do you think generally about this idea?
I am grateful for any tips!
