Jobs available?

2024.05.21 22:38 lunaanc Jobs available?

Starting the job search. The company I worked for did layoffs for all of their Ohio locations effective immediately. I'm unsure about anything severance wise so I'm not sure if I'll take unemployment.
I'm in the banking industry but only have an associate degree making 30ish an hour.
I went in person to several companies and mostly no one is hiring, you can fill an online application, or the ones that are are lower wage and part time and would come out about the same as unemployment.
Any suggestions for a job search near Eastgate area or not too far away? I've never been laid off and I am trying to figure out what they are required to pay out as far as vacation, etc.

2024.05.21 22:37 Top_Discipline38 NJ Family Care Questions - Marital Status and Household Income

I've been reading through all the posts in regards to NJ Family Care and I see that it's basically a horror show. With that in mind, I'm trying to make sure I get everything correct as my situation is a little "involved." They are asking for my marital status which is technically "married," but I have not lived with my spouse for almost ten years at this point. Up until recently, he was violently opposed to divorce proceedings and would spew all sorts of threats regarding my wanting to file. We never went to court for anything, I essentially threw whatever belongings I could in bags and fled with our two daughters who were pre-school age at the time (now they are in middle school.) So there was never any court ordered support and over the years he has sent random amounts of "support" via Paypal, had them visit when it fit his schedule and provided medical insurance coverage through a group plan he had through an association he belonged to. I've also never had the money to hire an attorney for the divorce because providing for my two daughters all those years alone never left anything extra for that sort of thing. He lives in NY, I moved back home to NJ in July of 2022 because I was pregnant and moving in with my current partner. I just found out that he stopped paying for my daughters (and my) health insurance so I need to get the three of us covered. I have no income, I stay home with my son who is 20 months old and my partner works ( has his own insurance through his job for him and our son) so I think I should be able to qualify - my one daughter is also autistic (enrolled with an IEP in the special education program through the local district.) The application asks my marital status, I'm wondering what to put down because while I am married, it's not to the person who I share a household with (my partner files taxes as head of household and claims my daughters as dependents because their Father does not and he's the one who actually supports them.) So what would be the proper response? I'm not legally separated but when I put down that I'm "Married" it will not let me advance without inputting spouse information. I put my partner down as a household member but he is "Single" along with all the kids. My technical husband is NOT a household member.
Second question...I assume they will take into account my partner's income which would probably be more than the thresholds for social services. Will this prevent my daughters and I from getting health coverage? I mean, he makes a decent living but we are just making the mortgage and bills with the crazy cost of living here. I also see that they want bank statements from reading some of the other posts. This time of year we have a little extra in our accounts because of his tax refund but in no way are we ever close to being this "stacked" and by stacked I mean I had a couple thousand when any other time of the year i might have a couple hundred bucks lol.
Any insight is appreciated.

2024.05.21 22:30 throwaway1039123093 im just going nowhere and i dont know what to do, i feel trapped and im just so sad all the time

im 27 this month, I live and have always lived at home. I have 2 degrees, a msc and a bsc. But I have never worked because I was doing other gaming related projects (don't want to specify to identify myself) until now. I can't even get a reply back on any job application (my degrees are 5+ years old now) never mind any further in the process. I have no income at all anymore, my gaming "career" has fallen off a cliff and I'm just getting worse every day (which hurts deeply because I was once very good).
Another problem is I have a large dog since COVID, who is the one thing I love and cherish. I cannot move to another city as without getting into specifics again, my parents both hate the dog and would likely at best rehome him or worst case outright poison him - I don't have the capital without a job to afford a place big enough for him and also the other costs associated if my parents aren't supporting me financially. So anything for the foreseeable has to be done remotely or very close which is another nightmare. My parents hate me, I have no friends, and no prospects. I'm just in a constant state of stress and worry and I feel like I'm locked up in a trap.

2024.05.21 22:29 Bbt_winsma I feel like I'm being scammed when applying to jobs.

I'm on Indeed, ZipRecrueter, LinkedIn and Glassdoor. I have been since I was fired in November 2023 (the company lied about why I was fired and the one who did it ended up fired later but....still fired) I have over a 100 applications out. If I'm not being told I'm over qualified then it's I'm under qualified.
Lately I've noticed that the job description will say something like.... Entry level position, no experience needed, $16 an hour with benefits, full time.....I apply.... get an interview and..... "Well were looking for someone who already knows this type of work", or "we actual start off at $12 an hour but after a few years you could make $16 an hour", or my favorite "benefits are for full time employees at 40hrs, this job is actual for 35hrs a week so its consideredpart time." This has happened to me several times now. šŸ˜”šŸ˜”
I've also been getting sent to 3rd parties after applying to a job. Apparently these 3rd parties are job hunters and want you to make an account with them. The "job" is actually bait or something. šŸ¤ØšŸ¤Ø
Yesterday I did a Zoom meeting. But the company I thought was an insurance company sounds like a pyramid scheme that sells insurance. Not the first time I've had this happen. šŸ¤” šŸ¤”
It's been 6mo. I am out of unemployment benefits, I can't find anything around here and I'm completely broke. I have no way to get my medication. No way to pay my bills. I'm trying to care for my parents (yes I've applied to be a caregiver, where I live it takes monthS.) I've applied everywhere. I'm so depressed, I'm such a failure . And every time I think maybe this is it, I'm finally gonna get a job the crap that I mentioned happens. It's like some joke. I don't know what to do anymore.

2024.05.21 22:29 MagnusMartel15 Got my license in CA but have to move back to MD

Hey I just got certified here in California, I've been living here for almost a year now. I moved here with kind of a loose plan of what I was going to do long term and thought I could work in the service industry in a stable way while I figured it out. I realized I wanted to get in the healthcare industry because much of my family is deeply involved in it back in my home state of Maryland and I always had an interest in it. I went to school for Phlebotomy here in San Diego and got my certs within the last few weeks, however I'm dealing with financial issues now and need to also go home to help my family deal with some issues.
As much as it pains me to move back home that seems like its going to be the case. I do plan to move back here in the future as this is my dream city and my life long hobbies involve living near the ocean. My plan is to get a job while living at home in the phlebotomy field (my family is connected to healthcare systems in my home state), gain the coveted experience all these big wig phlebotomy jobs here in CA desire job applicants to have. Work there for 6 months-1 year and try and apply for jobs leading up to me moving back here. I also want to retain my CA license so I don't have to do phlebotomy school here again. It also begs the question, CA has the most stringent requirements for phlebotomy, as far as I know MD isn't as strict as CA so do I need a MD license to practice phlebotomy in MD?
Does this plan sound viable? Sorry for the long post just tryna figure out my life rn! Thanks.

2024.05.21 22:28 Stunning_Cod_2633 Interview feedback

So I got an interview for a job back in April 28 and made it to the 3rd round of interviews. I then sent a follow up email a week later after that round and they stated they were still working on people on the first round and couldn't give me an update. Should I be worried about it? They are a total of for 4 round for a data analyst position. I really want this job but it seems like they would want someone else even though the interviews seemed very optimistic. They have also stopped accepting any new applicants from applying on the posting. Any advice or insights on this?

2024.05.21 22:26 Present-Maximum9715 (WORK / FAMILY) Ofc this had to happen

Letā€™s just say I live in a north east state in america and I just got my first job 10 days ago. Iā€™ve been enjoying it and actually like all of my co workers except for one. Fast forward to today and my goddamn mother is talking about ā€œoh I want to move states againā€ down to florida, obviously meaning Iā€™d have to quit my first job not even 2/3 weeks in. It fucking pisses me off that all sheā€™s considering is herself, and my 2 sisters and I clearly have no damn say in anything. Itā€™s difficult as hell to even find work so now that I found a place that took me in despite it being a part time job made me want to stay and commit to doing all I can to do my best in the work I was given. Fucking Florida dude. Forced to move there before and then came back up north and now have to go back down to that shit state again thatā€™s turning into mayhem. Great. Looks like Iā€™ll be out of work and jobless yet again until I submit another 100 applications and 20 interviews just to find something else. Seriously whatā€™s so great about a state known for having a hurricane every single year without fail. Fucking Disney? Piss off.

2024.05.21 22:23 gigishops Any advice?

Hi!! Not entirely sure if this is allowed so please let me know if not. Iā€™m looking for advice on if I am qualified for a Fulbright or anything I should do to make myself a better candidate for the 2025-2026 application pool.
I am currently doing my M.A. in Forensic Psychology in the U.S. and would want to do an open study position in something criminology/criminal justice related. I have been having a hard time finding stats of people who are accepted, but I am assuming this is because it varies wildly on a case by case basis.
I have a year and a half of TA experience and some internship experience with the ACLU. I also have a 4.0 in my M.A. and graduated cum laude from my undergraduate program. My issue is I donā€™t have a lot of field experience because I have worked a full time job since I was 17 and all throughout my college career. This makes it difficult for me to do a lot of things that would give me experience in criminal justice.
I am incredibly passionate about criminal justice reform here in the U.S. and would love to be able to go to another country and study their processes and procedures and apply that to my work here, especially for when I start applying to PhD programs. I am just worried that my lack of experience in my field of study is going to hinder me from moving forward in the application process. Of course I will still apply no matter what, but I am looking for any advice or words of encouragement anyone may have. Thank you!!

Masters degree with honors, professional experience, references, conversational Spanish, denied for Walmart
As the title says, I have a BSc cum laude, MSc magna cum laude, speak conversational Spanish, and have professional experience and professional references. My degrees are not related to customer service (for example, they're not in business, admin., management, etc.) but they're still college degrees. I've submitted over 200 applications since mid-February and got denied for a job working at the local Wal-Mart. Not a fancy upper management job either. An "entry level" job. At Wal-Mart. I just want to be able to get groceries and pay my share of the rent.

2024.05.21 22:13 Professional_Ant8935 My career has come down to teaching at a Diploma Mill and I hate it...

Posting this on a throwaway account because I need to vent and I'm just constantly frustrated at this.
For the past several years I was a very successful part-time professor at a college. Things were great. I loved my work. I adapted remotely very well... But there was one caveat. I had several international students amongst the locals and most of them were fantastic... Except (and I hate saying this because it sounds very racist) some of the International students from India who were very entitled and demanded I give them top marks for doing basically nothing. I told them off and they either failed my class or barely passed. I am a person of colour and I don't usually note the nationality of my students ever, but this has become a somewhat consistent trend I've noticed.
A new dean was hired recently with no qualifications and demanded all part-timers take a severe pay cut, under half our regular earnings, or leave. I left. Several of my old students were pissed when they heard why me and a few other profs left. This unexpected development and my layoff from my other job around the same time has left me basically jobless for about a year. No matter my credentials and my 15 years of experience, I can't get a job anywhere. The job market is ridiculous hard right now and money is running out.
I got headhunted to teach at a college the next city over a few months ago. Never heard of them, but I interviewed and they offerred me a job this semester teaching something adjacent to what I used to teach. Okay, cool. They said that they would have 'some' international students and I told them I was cool with it. I did get a few weird vibes during my interview, but I ignored it because it's not like I had anything else going for me in the job hunt.
Fast forward to the in-person orientation last month... This place is a scam! Holy shit. It becomes so obvious the moment you get there. The staff have no clue what they're doing. The IT department runs away if you ask them any tech questions and can't solve basic issues. We get told even more that our classes have a lot of students from India, which I didn't have a problem with, until it was emphasized how sensitive we must be to this being their first time in Canada and saying we basically have to be their counsellor... Which is not supposed to be my job. They tout how much advanced equipment they have but completely blank when asked how we're supposed to access it... I was told I would get access to set up the online portal of my class a week before the semester. I don't and only get access to it the day classes begin after complaining. Not only am I not allowed to touch my classes' online portal, but I can't edit any of the content or assignments; it's a very strict "you must do this each week" mandate which was not the flexible class approach of any of my previous teaching jobs or even what they told me when I was hired. I feel like my curriculum is an assembly line. Everything is so disorganized. Furthermore, I was lost at one point on campus and asked a student for directions... He didn't help and it felt like he didn't even understand English. Since orientation I felt, "something is VERY off here" and so many scam red flags kept appearing in my mind.
Then the kicker... My class gets cut because of recent government news about immigration caps and I am reassigned to another class I have little qualification to teach, but I already signed my contract and need to adapt the curriculum. A week later, they announce because of the caps they are stopping new applicants into the program... So now it's effectively dead after the current cohort.
I finally get to teach my class a few weeks ago and... EVERY student in this class is an international student. All but ONE of them is from India. I try to teach and they won't stop talking; I have to tell the class to be quiet several times. They don't interact when you ask the class questions. Absolutely NONE of them are taking notes. All of them either don't pay attention or they are giving me a thousand yard stare when I talk like they aren't understanding a word I'm saying. It was that point that I realized what my gut had been telling me for a long time: I've been had. This is a fake-yet-legit institution and diploma mill.
I've taught 3 classes so far and each one of them is the same. The administration is confused about everything and can't give a straight answer on anything. IT is useless. I'm locked out of my own course with no flexibility, making all the curriculum planning I did useless and needs to be redone. I have to go through like 2 people to make even basic changes to the course like spelling my own name correctly. I teach a 3 hour class and I am fairly positive at this point most of these students have little to no understanding of English. The course content is stiff and I have to invent ways to make it interesting which doesn't seem to land. The students say nothing during class and then send me messages after class about the shit I just explained to them. In just a few short weeks, I hate that I'm starting to harbor a slight resentment for Indian students that is filling the back of my mind.
It's just ugh... All the effort I put into making innovative and fun curriculum using their guidelines is now moot. Few of these students seem to understand or want to listen a word I say. I'm in a diploma mill and now I have no choice but to fulfill my obligation. I usually love my students no matter where they're from and embrace diverse classrooms (it's been a big sticking point of my career as a teacher of color), but I feel horrible for thinking badly about these Indian students in a somewhat racist fashion while also lamenting that they are being scammed and now I'm a part of that.
I put so much pride in being a Teacher as a major part of my career... And now I feel absolutely pathetic for being so desperate that I have fallen this low. I want out so bad.

Hi Reddit community,

I need some advice and donā€™t even know where to start. Is what Iā€™m experiencing worth pursuing legally, or am I just dealing with petty workplace issues?
Background:
Situation:
Specific Concerns:
  1. Promotion and Pay Disparities:
    • I was overlooked for a promotion that was given to a newer employee, despite my longer tenure and significant contributions.
    • The companyā€™s handbook states no salary increases before one year, yet this new employee received a raise within 5 months.
  2. Targeted Behavior:
    • My personal Instagram was monitored by the CEO, leading to a warning about my posts.
    • During a family bereavement, I was criticized for not checking in on Zoom and for using an "aggressive" OOO emoji.
    • My recent performance review was downgraded by the CEO despite exceeding company KPIs, and I received a lower raise compared to the newer employee of the same title.

Iā€™m seeking advice on whether this situation could be considered discrimination and if itā€™s worth pursuing legal action? Any/all guidance or similar experiences is very greatly appreciated!

2024.05.21 22:07 split_in_time33 Is anyone else experiencing this with applications?

I've been applying to new jobs on & off for about 2yrs now. In the last 6mo I've put more effort in my applications. I recently applied to a job which was perfect for me, not only do I have professional experience in this but due to personal circumstances I also have personal experience in this. I sent in a cover letter (which I hate doing as I know they're useless) & I adjusted my resume specifically for this role. I applied at night on a Sunday, by Monday night I had already gotten a rejection... the sh*tty thing is, I've seen this position opened for approx. 6mo. I can't even reach out to anyone about this b/c its not like someone is actually sending these rejections... I really dislike my current job, the environment is so toxic & after the pandemic it got worse. I've been thinking of leaving for years but my current position is remote & I have a mortgage. I can't just quit.
Its been really disappointing, I don't know if I should try to reach out to anyone about this rejection.
