2024.05.22 01:08 Spiritual_Prune3123 Stupid question about “losses”

I have seen more and more in twitter and youtube (especially content regarding bug entertainment companies like Disney) that companies scrap proyects to use them as “tax breaks(?)” I assume. Im not from the US so I don’t know how tax law works, but it sounds ridiculous to me that if your business fails the government will pay for it, because then no business would fail.
But I keep seeing this, mentions to the failed Star Wars Hotel, animated movies completely finished (the roadrunner) that got scrapped, and some more examples and people again and again claim that its because companies use it as a loss to reduce taxes.
I dont want to get answers to why they are doing this seemingly stupid business decisions, I just want to know if theres some truth to this claim? Can US companies really get tax breaks for losses? And if so, how can they be so blatantly exploited? Can I start a company, buy a lot of something on credit, sell it to my friend for half a cent and report it as a loss?
Thank you and sorry if this isn’t the right sub for this.

2024.05.22 01:04 lolthenoob Angevin Empire-Is this too aggresive?

Had the PU France war yesterday. Not sure if I played too aggresively. I hired about 50k soldiers worth of mercs (85k army on 45k force limit). It's 1450, I'm in about 15 loans in debt (2580 ducats) with a negative income of 30 ducats per month, but I've got Soctland, the isles and France as my subjects. Surrender of Maine fired in 1445 March I think and I just started warring. War ended after 2 years.
But what I did after the PU was aggressively vassalised scotland, and fought all the non HRE minors (Brittany, Savoy, provence...) for war reps and cold hard cash to keep me afloat. Didn't take any land. You can declare with France claims. One war nets me about 200 - 500 ducats and the truce timers keep them from a coalition. I figured if I took so many loans for mercs, I might as well make the full use of it.
For some reason, burgundy decalred on my PU France subject Bourbonnais in 1450, so I took the opportunity to get them to remove me as a rival + war reps and war reps. Hopefully I can get the inheritance.
I also allied austria and castile. But I've got a pretty big coalition against me.

2024.05.22 01:01 UsedKaleidoscope64 Clash Royale theory: Pekka is a human wearing a life support armor, similarly to Darth Vader

In Star Wars, Darth Vader has to wear a suit in order to survive. What if this is also Pekka's situation? This might explain why she talks like a robot, probably because of a device that allows her to speak (she might not be able to speak normally because her face got disfigured and they had to replace her tongue, which would also explain why she has artificial purple eyes). Pekka is clearly able to think, remember and feel emotions, things that machines are incapable of. However, one might argue: "Didn't Clash a Rama prove that Pekka is a mecha that can be commanded by things such as mini-pekka?" Response to the objection: The problem is that the inside of Pekka constantly changes in Clash a Rama (there is even an episode where the knight uses its insides to play music) and Pekka, as seen by the trailers, has her own personality. How can Pekka be a disk-playing machine, a mecha and a being with its own personality at the same time? I have a theory for this: the Clash a Rama Pekka is not the true Pekka, but rather a fake one that they are using to fool us. Notice also how emotionally flat and antisocial Pekka is in Clash a Rama, the opposite of the trailers. As you can see from Clash Royale and Clash of Clans, both in animations and in game (if you look closely enough), she has HUMAN LEGS with small feet and pointy shoes. The pants she is wearing seem to be wrapped around body fat. In the Cannoneer trailer, we can even see that she has HUMAN ARMS AND HANDS. You can even see her elbow when the cannoneer hits the dark prince and she turns around scared. This implies that someone is inside the armor and that the armor is not the person itself. Pekka is either a shapeshifting skinwalker (if Clash a Rama is to be considered canon despite its inconsistencies) or a woman. How do we explain the other pekkas, including the super ones, in Clash of Clans then? They are clones of the original one, just like any other type of troops: for example, barbarians are all perfect copies of eachother, probably clones of an original barbarian, but clearly barbarians are not robots. One might also argue that the super pekkas are definitely not human because they have electrical armor. Well, the electro dragon and electro wizard exist too in the Clash universe, so this is not a good argument. Another thing that people might say against my theory: Sparky has a human soul too, yet she's not human. Well, I have already shown that Pekka has human limbs, so it can't be a machine. Want more evidence? Just look at the Clash of Clans ad where she chases a butterfly with natural movements. Final objection to the theory: "but Pekka in Clash of Clans does a robotic noise before dying!" Response: it's because the armor that is keeping the person inside alive stopped working.

2024.05.22 00:54 edgy_secular_memes Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers

Is it bad I enjoyed this book? This book was far better than the reviews of it I’ve read and I enjoyed it. I was scared to read it because of the bad reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. But it wasn’t perfect and there was still major flaws with the book itself.
The characterization of the characters was spot on and I could easily imagine the characters’s voices when I was reading. Bakura was an interesting world and the Ssri-vruu were basically velociraptors in Star Wars but the idea of entenchment was terrifying. There was very much some horror movie moments in the book because of it. Bakura was an interesting world. I think the part of the book. I enjoyed the most was the feeling of the planet being under siege and everyone is waiting for this invasion to happen. Also, the uprising that happens towards the end adds to the stake in the books and I really enjoyed the climax of this book.
I think the best part is that this is set right after ROTJ, so we get to see the aftermath of it on the characters here. We never really got to see this in the sequel trilogy. Luke was literally affected physically by Palpatine’s lightning and we get to see how Leia thinks of Vader as her father and they interact via force ghost. This arc of dealing with Vader is wrapped in Tatooine Ghost which I also read recently, so it’s nice to that thread of continuity.
The biggest issues with this book is just some of the writing as it moves a little too quick for my liking. It also feels a little sloppy here and there in terms of plotting. But overall, this was a very enjoyable read. I’m gonna be bold and give this 7.5/10

2024.05.22 00:49 Financial_Photo_1175 Does Thrawn command a sector fleet? Or does he command a bigger one? If he commands the former, who would be the sector governor that he answers to?

We know that governors in Star Wars are less like American governors and more like military governors from the Roman Empire who command all the military assets in their sectoprovince. Was there a Moff that Thrawn answered to? Or did he command multiple sector fleets? I want to know the lore from both canon and legends. Thanks!

DEAD DEEP STATER TRIES TRICKING AIR FORCE OFFICER TO BOMB GITMO. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MASQUERADING as the LATE WAR CRIMINAL LLOYD AUSTIN tried in VAIN TO COMVINCE a HIGH-RANKING AIR FORCE BOMB WING COMMANDER to LAUNCH A MASSIVE AIRSTRIKE AGAINST GUANTANAMO BAY, February 25, 2024.
Artificial Intelligence masquerading as the late war criminal Lloyd Austin tried in vain to convince a high-ranking Air Force bomb wing commander to launch a massive airstrike against Guantanamo Bay this week, claiming that insurrectionist officers loyal to Trump had commandeered and were using the base to wage war on the Biden administration, a source in General Eric M. Smith’s office told Real Raw News.
Unfortunately for the illegal regime, the AI’s programmer had either forgotten or wasn’t told that the real Austin had, in mid-2023, pressured the same officer, 509th Bomb Wing Commander Col. Keith Butler, to sortie a B-2 Spirit assault on GITMO’s command and control buildings, an order Col. Butler refused. According to our source, the then-alive Austin took umbrage at Butler’s refusal and threatened to brand him a traitor and convene a Court-Martial against him. But Butler had chuckled at the orders, saying that Austin was in fact the traitor and an illegitimate secretary of defense, a tool of the cabal. By then, Col. Butler had forsaken the regime and taken an oath before General Eric M. Smith to uphold the Constitution of the United States. He had pledged to support the last legitimate commander-in-chief, President Donald J. Trump, and to eschew unlawful regime directives.
Nonetheless, on Thursday, February 22, Col. Butler at Whitman Airforce Base, Missouri, received an email ordering him to appear in full military dress on a video call with Austin the following morning. The message, however, had been sent by John Kirby, a retired Navy rear admiral turned Deep State asset, who, as Communications Director of the NSC, held no authority over Col. Butler.
The colonel challenged the email, writing back asking why Austin hadn’t personally contacted him, to which Kirby reportedly replied, “Secretary Austin is a busy man. I am conveying his orders to you, under his authority.”
Unbeknownst to Kirby, apparently, Butler already knew that Lloyd Austin was killed by a Russian cruise missile strike in Ukraine in January, confirmed by DNA evidence the FSB, Russia’s Federal Security Service, had forwarded to General Smith’s offices.
Col. Butler notified Gen. Smith about the Deep State’s attempt at subterfuge.
“You take that video conference, colonel, and record it, and I’ll have our guys get a look at it. We have every reason to believe Austin’s dead, but I’d still like a look at whoever’s claiming to be him,” Gen. Smith told Col. Butler on a phone call.
When Col. Butler saw “Austin” on a computer screen, he knew he was speaking with a fraud. The simulation’s tonality, dialect, and cadence perfectly matched Austin’s, but its appearance had indicators of fakery. His prescription glasses were the wrong shape—octagonal instead of circular lenses, and his face was too slender, as though someone had manipulated it in Photoshop. Moreover, the genuine Austin had always worn an American flag pin on the left lapel of his suit jacket. Col. Butler noticed it on the right lapel. Moreover, Austin’s eyes were a lighter shade of brown, and his ears had grown almost as conspicuously as large as Obama’s. The most obvious giveaway, however, was Austin having absolutely no memory of Col. Butler’s past insubordination.
“The Deep Fake talked to him like they were old pals for about ten minutes before getting to the meat of the matter, and Col. Butler initially played along with it. At least until he wanted Col. Butler to blow part of GITMO to bits,” our source said.
“Colonel Butler, you are hereby ordered to immediately scramble two B-2 squadrons to target Guantanamo Bay, target packages to be forwarded presently. In short, GITMO has been seized by dissident military forces that still Obey Donald Trump. Targets to include the command nexus but not, I repeat not, the detention cells. Assets must also destroy any Naval vessels berthed there, as their commanders have been compromised,” the simulation said, mispronouncing Butler’s last name, placing emphasis on the “u” as one would pronounce “Ferris Bueller.”
“Secretary Austin, you’re aware this is not SOP for issuing orders of any kind, aren’t you?” Col. Butler said.
“These orders come directly from POTUS, Joseph R. Biden,” the Austin simulation replied.
“You don’t remember us having this identical conversation several months ago, do you?” Col. Butler said.
The simulated face went silent for a minute; its AI must have been trying to adapt to the conversation and formulate a proper, believable response. It then said, “Of course, I remember. But it went unfinished. That’s why we have it again, Col. Butler,” the fake Austin said.
Col. Butler called the bluff. “I will not obey that order. I know Austin’s dead, and you’re not him. Who exactly over there is listening to this conversation?”
The conversation terminated at its source, which U.S. Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command later determined to be an IP address tied to an NSC satellite office in Bakersfield, California.
“This is more evidence Austin’s dead,” our source said. “What’s crazy is a 12-year-old using Midjourney could’ve conjured better AI. The Deep State has clones and trained body doubles, and this is what the offered up to pretend to be Austin? They’ve a lot to learn. They’re regressing, it seems.”

2024.05.22 00:34 AceCoordinatorMary How would you integrate Star Wars or Marvel into Kingdom Hearts?

How would you integrate Star Wars or Marvel into Kingdom Hearts?
I feel like one of these major IPs is going to appear in Kingdom Hearts 4. It feels like an inevitability. So how would you integrate them into the story?
Here's my idea:
Treat the MCU and Star Wars characters like how KH treats Final Fantasy. Have the setting for Star Wars be post Order 66, everyone is scattered, Sora can meet them all individually. Popular characters like Obi-Wan and Ahsoka can hang around and appear more often. Sora could maybe even get an upgrade being Force sensitive and train with either one.
For Marvel, I like the idea of Sora finding key Marvel objects and having the characters be Summons. The films just don't really work in a world setting. It's too big a universe for that. And I DON'T want a repeat of a shot for shot world like in Frozen or Tangled. That got awkward real quick.
So Sora could go around finding individual Iron Man armor pieces and once he has all of them, either HE could wear the armor, or Tony Stark could appear and be his Summon. Or if he finds the glasses Tony gave Peter he could access new technology that way. It would work like this for other items too; either Sora could just use Captain America's shield, or once he finds the two halves of it, and merges them together, that might Summon either Steve or Sam. I'd honestly pick Sam because we need to see more of him as Cap America honestly.
If Sora finds the ancient Jedi Texts, he could either become Force Sensitive, or Rey could appear and be his Summon. If he finds the pieces to a lightsaber and builds them, depending on whose lightsaber it is, they will be his Summon.
This way, by having characters appear as Summons first, I feel like it would be an easier way for fans of all three IPs to stomach the prospect of "oh so this is happening".

2024.05.22 00:31 Sentinel-of-society Need advice on starting first kingdom

Hello,
I am playing Ironman mode on Bannerlord difficulty with the exception that death in battle is turned off.
I’ve done well this campaign. I’ve currently got a young MC in his late 20s that can field 250 men. I’ve got 500k in cash. 3 towns and 2 castles all right next to each other.
I am a vassal for the southern empire and I stole all the fiefs from the western empire in wars.
The problem I’m having is that I’m not sure when or how to make the move to strike out for my own kingdom. The southern empire has grown fat with my help and I know the minute I betray them I’m going to be eaten by the monster I helped create.
I’m not sure what the best strategy is moving forward. Anyone got any tips?

2024.05.22 00:30 Zardnaar PT vs ST Hate. The Difference

45M saw the midnight screening of TPM in NZ 1999.
Online now there's been a debate around the PT hate vs ST. I was there and the reception was different vs now along with environment online.
Biggest difference is social media didn't exist as such (unless you count forums).
So in 1999 what were we doing Star Wars related? Well our group was playing Rebellion and Rogue Leader (N64 game). Somewhat recently Shadows of the Empire. They lined up for tickets I managed to score some midnight screening ones.
We didn't hate TPM. The disappointment was very real though.
The 90s were kinda rough n NZ. Our group was a mixture of welfare kids through to reasonably well off kids. We consumed a lot of what is now legends material. Games and books mostly. Comics were a bit harder to aquire in my part of NZ.
Internet was a lot less common back then no social media. A computer was around $2000 nzd in the 90s rent was cheap say $40-60 per week circa 1996-1999. I don't remember the conversion rate to usd minimum wage was around $6-8.
Buying a PC though was 6-12 months rent. I didn't own one in 1999 first used the internet 1996 to give you an idea.
I watched TPM disappointment was real but I didn't go online and slag it off. I wasn't online. There was also sobe really bad Star Wars media by tgen so it was far from the worst. That applies to Disney Star Wars now as well.
None of our group hated TPM anyway and we formed our own opinions. And those opinions were mostly self contained. Idk if there was online hate in 1999 but if there was it was easy to miss. Even if you had a PC an the net it as dial up. And you would gave to go Join a forum. 1999 was also the first year I saw a text message.
Fast forward a few years. 2001 was the first year I joined a forum. It was a D&D one but they gad another section for Star Wars RPG. My first discussions around Star Wars online were about the d20 and older D6 material. The D6 material was massively influential in early Legends material after Heir to the Empire. No one got to offended if you didn't like TPM but I don't recall people constantly dumping on it. Not saying it didn't happen but it was easy enough to miss.
Interdiction cruisers in Rebels. They are from legends and they got it from said D6 RPG materials.
Fast forward a few more ears and RotS has been released. Generally people online seemed to like that one (cf RoS). Not claiming it was universally loved but a common attitude seemed to be the PT was a bit meh except for Pt III. Once again social media didn't really exist or was in its infancy around 2005/6.
It was also a golden age for Star Wars games 2002-2008 although you could also claim 1997-2010 ymmv of course. Even if the movies were not loved there was plenty of other media to distract you. Once again there wasn't a lot of hate directed at the movies at the time. Not everyone loved them of course but the negativity was more disappointment, wish they were better, at least pt III was good.
And then social media blew up. I don't remember Twitter before 2012 and I think I used youtube for the first time 2010 late adopter.
So that's the key difference between then and now IME. Social media didn't exist, less people were online. Those that were more segregated into their own communities on forums. Most people didn't use forums or even knew what they were.
I did see my 1st meme in 1996 or 97 comparing a politician to the Nazis. Godwins law 1997.
So I'm Gen X turning into my parents lol. Never used a dating site haven't been single since 2000 and barely single since 1996. No idea where to even start if I was.
But the rise of social media has resulted in a lot of anger and confusion and flow on effects I have noticed. Another simple example is dating and expectations due to tinder and porn. Younger female friends or relatives putting pressure on themselves and guys completely clueless. We just had to deal with things like playboy. I'll admit to reading them but stopped aged 16 when one realized that girl you like probably doesn't like them.
Modern world is better in some ways worse in others compared with the 90s.

2024.05.22 00:21 SnooBunnies9328 A genocidal megacorp

I can’t code for shit but I notice there’s really not a genocidal megacorp, so I have come up with an idea
Corporate War Machine. (Genocidal) Incompatible with the usual stuff. Requires fanatic materialism instead of xenophobia.
Unlocks a special casus beli on all empires, called resource extraction.
Unlocks a special bombardment stance called extraction, which creates exhausted deposits and earns you resources based on an edict you choose.
Winning wars allows you to build a special overlord holding called the affordable outsource, which gets you a lot of resources out of your corporate holdings and works the pops of the planet to death, at no cost to you.

2024.05.22 00:18 Wizywig Feedback: War Games

Hi, I'm gonna give some feedback on my wargames experience. I know this is a big part of the long term homeworld strategy, so I hope the feedback is helpful. I am NOT going to talk about fleet v fleet or campaign at all, if anything applies to those modes, it is incidental and not intended as the focus of my feedback.
Setting / Map
So I feel that the map selection is incredibly limited. The fact is it feels like there are maybe 3 different possible maps for every stage, and that just doesn't feel great. Very repetitive.
Just more variety is needed here.
Spawns
I think the Incursion spawns are terrible. It is a war of attrition and it just feels like running a sprint every time and doesn't feel like anything we do ever creates a calm experience. I think challenge is an interesting concept, which I think Blizzard did well in Starcraft 2 co-op, by having difficulties (AI gets smarter, more capable), and eventually mutators (the difficulty remains, which is basically fairly straightforward once you get used to it, and now mutators make you play differently).
The constant nonestop onslaught is okay at first, but stops being fun quickly.
Artifacts and Fleets
I put both of these together because I think the two are heavily woven in.
I think the artifact system is interesting but _too_ random. The fact is that I may want to try out say a bomber build with the bomber fleet, with a focus on tank frigates and high damage bombers, or all assault frigates, etc. The problem is the artifacts are so random, sometimes I just get a fun combo of nonestop recon buffs and nothing useful. It just doesn't feel good.
And on that note, the ship comps are very weird given limited resources. For example a comp of 6 assault frigs + 2 support frigs is FAR more hitpoints and damage, than 3 times that cost in interceptors. A frigate at 20% hp that can heal is 0 money lost. 5 interceptors where 4 died is 4/5 of the cost destroyed and unrepairable. I like the Homeworld 2 version where fighters have squads, and as long as the squad is still alive, it can be reinforced. It solved that problem better than homeworld 1's style of individual fighters did. And for a mode where resources are very scarce, this is critical.
Frigates have the added bonuses of if you cap a frigate, you get another free frigate. Good luck capping fighters / corvettes.
So this all leads to very weird situations:
What i'd like to see
enemy carriers spawn more units, enemy units cost less, double carriers, enemy assault frigates lob miniature giant space hamsters at you, etc. These can all be interesting random changes that become addons as the missions progress to make the game more challenging, while also not taking away our agency in our ability to execute on strategies with our faction.
Closing thoughts
I see the community is very small and not really growing that rapidly. I hope to see wargames changed to a point where everyone will be excited to jump in on it. Finding it hard to find people to play with even among HW enthusiasts.
I haven't even unlocked all the fleets for war games and I'm kinda done with it. Looking at the year 1 pack... I don't even have enthusiasm for buying it because... I just don't play enough to justify spending extra.
Edit: It's not all doom and gloom. I love the graphics, the atmosphere, and the unit designs. I love the idea of the mode and love the idea of it being a very cooperative experience, something I always wanted in homeworld. I think the flaws of the game are absolutely things that can be fixed with a few patches, though some things are probably harder than others.

2024.05.22 00:16 MrDownhillRacer What's Your Headcanon DC Timeline?

For me, it's:
Year Negative Four
Year Negative Two
Year One
Year Two
Year Three
Year Four
Year Five
Year Six
Year Seven
Year Eight
Year Nine
Year Ten
After the first decade or so, time starts being more amorphous and operating on some cross between a timeline that develops and a stationary Simpsons-like timeline where time doesn't really move. Some things progress, some things don't, everything is kept vague, and characters don't notice or call attention to this. Essentially, large amounts of time are zipped into small amounts of time, and both the longer and shorter time intervals between events are "correct" depending on how much we're zooming in on the timeline. For example, Kyle Rayner had a good number of years as a solo Green Lantern and Tim Drake was Robin for a solid amount of time before Hal Jordan returned and Damian Wayne showed up, but somehow, superheroes in general have only been operating for about 10 to 15 years, max. This is really the only way you can keep Batman perpetually in his 30s or 40s without having weird consequences like each Robin only holding the title for a year before he gets a new one.
So after this, I stop having specific "years" and it becomes more like "periods of time in which certain things co-occur." So there might be considerable time intervals between events, yet those events might also paradoxically be squished into some 10-15-year timeline.
The Fall of Heroes Era
The Reconstruction Era
The Millennium Era
The Infinite Crisis Era
The Final Crisis Era
There are things I'm on the fence on, such as whether the Golden Age heroes are part of this timeline. On the one hand, I like the idea of Superman being the world's very first superhero and the public never having had encountered anything fantastical until his debut. If the JSA existed before him, then his debut would be met with "hey look, I guess flying men are back" instead of "can you BELIEVE a man can fly?!" Batman's debut also seems more striking if Gotham was never patrolled by a Green Lantern (that guy probably would have single-handedly demolished Gotham's mob in the '40s instead of letting it grow to the size it would later become).
On the other hand, I wouldn't want to jettison the cool relationships that exist between the Golden Age and later characters, like Kyle Rayner knowing Jade. I think I lean toward "keep them on Earth-2, but allow them to have regular meetings and friendships with the Earth-0 guys." But if the walls between universes are that porous, that just raises the question of why Power Girl got stuck on Earth-0 when the rest of the Earth-2 people can go home whenever they want.

2024.05.22 00:14 icecreamraider Part 1.5 - On Killing and Morality in War

On Killing and Morality in War.
I promised a follow-up to my yesterday’s post on more technical aspects of planning and executing a ground invasion. It’s coming – already started writing it… may or may not have time to finish it today.
For more context (and an “about me”) see the original post here: https://www.reddit.com/IsraelPalestine/comments/1cwvbna/the_realities_of_war_lets_kill_some_sacred_cows/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I’d like to start with a sidebar: a “personal message of sorts.” First, I appreciate all the supportive comments. Of course, there were a few with reading comprehension problems who took an issue with the concept that war can be quite a fun and exhilarating experience (despite the clear “do not recommend” theme throughout). I didn’t plan on writing this post, but felt prompted by some of the comments.
I see a lot of “moralizing” from certain characters who are convinced of their moral superiority and truly believe themselves to be the arbiters of human character.
Side Note: there are also plenty of decent, well-meaning folks who may disagree with one position or another… but do so from a thoughtful place, taking time to consider a counter-point. Nothing but respect to those. Freedom of disagreement is one of the liberties I value highly (a luxury people who live in Islamist enclaves don’t get). Regardless – nothing but respect to y’all. The world is a complicated place and many of your points I find valid, even if our conclusions may differ.
For the “wow… rape must also be fun for you… and murdering 12 million children” crowd”, I’d like to say the following: You, my friends, are among the most dangerous societal types, historically speaking. Seemingly intellectual, but lacking facts, context, and nuance – yet fully convinced of your moral and intellectual superiority. First of – congrats on being born in a place where being a moralizing peacenik is a viable option in life. Second – your “morals” just so happen to reflect the modern western moral code you were born into (and which you’ve done nothing yourself for to achieve). But, in other places, moralizing puritans like you keep the same character, but embrace a different set of “norms and morals”. In other words – a typical Islamist imam doesn’t sound much different than you in tone and conviction… his “holy book” just so happens to be Quaran rather than the ramblings of Norm Finklestein. And, of course, we’ve seen what tends to happen in other places where “anti-capitalist” and “anti-colonialist” moral puritans take hold – I was born at such a place. Let’s just say that the road from “I’m for the oppressed and anti-oppressors” to “we need to murder the reactionaries” is very short and easily crossed. And it’s always the most “righteously-outraged” who cross it first.

Anyways, back to topic of the post.
On Killing and Morality – Does Modern Combat Look like a “video game”?
I saw a comment or two that modern combat is too impersonal, looks like a video game, that it’s too easy for soldiers to kill innocents, etc., etc. I’ve also heard a similar argument from others, in unrelated circumstances.
To anyone thinking that – no, my friends. Killing people isn’t made easier by more lethal and remote weapons. I understand why it may seem that way. But, in many ways, it’s quite the opposite.
1. Military is just a mirror of its society. A military is a perfect representation of a society at large. Some soldiers will indeed be natural-born psychopaths who enjoy killing. But that’s a very tiny number – not any larger than in general population.
2. Bravado is Fake. Most younger soldiers will display a lot of bravado initially – pretend like violence doesn’t bother them (that’s why the military tries really hard to condition new recruits by trivializing the idea of “killing” – but it’s never successful).
3. The Reality. The truth is – killing shocks most soldiers to their core, no matter how much they try to suppress it and put on a brave war fighter face.
4. Understanding “Anger”. Often time you see what seems obvious anger among soldiers after a firefight. The easy explanation is the simple “of course they hate their enemy”. Except that’s not why they’re truly angry.
5. “Remote” Killing. From experience, I’ll tell you this – dealing with a remote target is much easier in the sense that it’s not as “scary”. But it’s much more difficult emotionally and mentally – though a commander will never show it to their troops. That decision takes much longer and raises many more doubts than responding to a nearby target that’s actively trying to kill your guys.
6. Why the young men and women in IDF went to war. I don’t want to start a debate about history of the region – it’s a different topic and it doesn’t change the practical realities my posts are meant to address. From a soldier’s point of view – it looks very simple:
That’s it. That’s the mindset. It’s really that simple for the guys and gals rolling into Gaza. The rest of what gets discussed on wester social media is just philosophical circle jerk to their ears.

Anyhow… I bet I’ll soon hear from the peaceniks who’ll tell me that they’d never do that, that they’d be conscious objectors, etc… To them, I’d like to ask that while you take a break from fellating yourself, don’t forget to thank the guys and the girls who do the dirty jobs so you don’t have to
And… while at it, don’t forget to apologize to the next generation of Arab girls who will be sold into a “marriage” to some fat, old toothless f*ck because some fat, comfortable hippie with an ivy league diploma believes that child rape is just an indigenous form of cultural expression and our interference with it is “colonialism”.
All for now. Peace, everybody. I'll be back with the promised post on "how to invade a place if you must".

Hi everyone! Also possibly trading the stuff in these photos for Lego Star Wars just trying to see what’s available or what people would offer! Not set on trading anything yet unless you offer something I can’t say no to!

2024.05.22 00:12 Deanmrd Steam refunded my sale price game by mistake and said I have to rebuy at full price if I want them.

Hi Guys
I purchased Gray Zone Warfare when first released game was buggy so I got the game refunded to my Steam wallet,
I purchased it from my Steam wallet when the sale was on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen order for £3.49 I also purchased BF2042 for £6.49,
a week past and could not find anything else I wanted to buy too so I contacted Steam support again and asked them if they could refund the remainder of my steam wallet balance back to my original payment
The first response I got was that it had already been refunded back to PayPal, it's like they didn't even read my message or check, so I had to assure them that the refund had gone to my Steam wallet,
The next response was a sorry and they refunded it back to PayPal, but after checking...
they had only refunded both games I purchased in the sale
they were telling me that they could not give me the games back. As soon as I asked to speak to a manager they closed the ticket with the following copy-and-paste response.
Originally posted by Steam support: "I am sorry we are not able to help here. For information on current sales and promotions please refer to the Steam Storefront or Steam News. Because we have provided all the information we have for your issue I'm closing this help request. If you have an unrelated issue please open a new help request and we will be happy to help. Steam Support Lin"
Is the anything I can do to refer this to a manager? This is not my fault it is Steam Support not paying attention to what they are doing.
Thanks
Dean
