2024.05.21 13:05 suzalalala Has anyone's Iggy experienced this?

My 12 year old biggy iggy has been acting mostly normal, but has regurgitated a handful of times this month. He's a terrible puker (very dramatic, as I would be too lol), so I know this was definitely regurgitation and not throw up. He's never really done this before in the past.
Last week he had an upset tummy, which he does get those every year or so - loud gurgles, painful abdomen, doesn't want to accept treats at points in the day (but still eating breakfast/dinnelick mats)- but gets over it in a few days. It lasted Mon-Weds and cleared up Thursday. He was fine all weekend and then last night regurgitated alll over me in bed (gross). I have a vet appt scheduled but they are 2 weeks out in their scheduling. He is still pooping normally and acting mostly normal besides having a belly ache off and on.
Usually we chalk up the belly ache episodes to his rolling in the backyard - he loves to roll in worms and often times uses his mouth to flick them up. Don't think he ever eats them though.. Not sure if he got into something that the birds may have dropped in the backyard. But again, he is pooping normally so that's the odd part!
Anyone experience this with their iggies? Should I be trying to get him to an emergency vet?

2024.05.21 12:54 drdeepeshkalra What are the common symptoms of kidney stones?

What are the common symptoms of kidney stones?
Kidney stones are a common urological illness that can cause substantial pain and problems if not treated immediately. As a healthcare provider, I feel it is critical to promote awareness about the signs of kidney stones in order to assist early diagnosis and treatment. In this section, we’ll look at some of the most prevalent indications and symptoms of kidney stones.

1. Severe Pain

One of the most defining signs of kidney stones is tremendous pain, which is frequently considered as one of the most severe forms of agony a person may feel. This pain, known as renal colic, usually starts suddenly and varies in intensity. It often begins in the back or side, behind the ribs, and can spread to the lower abdomen and groin. The discomfort might fluctuate as the stone progresses through the urinary system, so it’s important to keep track of any changes in position and intensity.

2. Hematuria (Blood in the Urine)

Another typical sign of kidney stones is the presence of blood in the urine (hematuria). The blood may be apparent to the human eye, making the urine pink, crimson, or brown, or it may be minuscule and only detectable by a urine test. Hematuria develops when a stone irritates or destroys the lining of the urinary system while moving.

3. Frequent Urination and Urgency

Kidney stones can cause alterations in urine patterns. You may feel the need to urinate more frequently than normal, with a strong and persistent desire. This symptom happens when a stone irritates the bladder or obstructs the passage of urine, causing the body to attempt to remove it.

4. Painful Urination

Another typical symptom is painful urination, often known as dysuria. This burning feeling can develop when the stone reaches the junction of the bladder and the ureter, or if it causes inflammation and irritation in the urinary system. It is critical to identify this discomfort from other types of dysuria, such as urinary tract infections.

5. Nausea and Vomiting

The extreme discomfort from kidney stones can cause nausea and vomiting. This response is the result of the body’s reaction to the extreme pain, as well as the strong relationship between the kidneys and the gastrointestinal system. If you are experiencing inexplicable nausea and vomiting, as well as acute stomach or flank discomfort, you may have a kidney stone.

6. Cloudy or Foul-Smelling Urine

Changes in the look or smell of your urine may potentially indicate kidney stones. Cloudy urine or pee with a strong, unpleasant odor might suggest an illness or the presence of stones. These changes occur when germs accumulate in the urinary system or a stone obstructs the flow of urine, resulting in stagnation and infection.

7. Fever and Chills

Fever and chills are less common but can accompany kidney stones, especially if there is an underlying urinary tract infection. This combination of symptoms need rapid medical care since it may suggest a more serious disease requiring quick treatment.

When to Seek Medical Help

If you have any of the symptoms listed above, especially severe pain, blood in your urine, or evidence of infection (fever and chills), get medical assistance right once. Early detection and treatment can reduce problems and suffering.

Conclusion

Understanding the signs of kidney stones is critical for quick diagnosis and successful therapy. If you believe you have kidney stones, contact a healthcare expert for a full assessment and proper treatment.
As usual, living a healthy lifestyle, staying hydrated, and following medical advice will help lower your chances of getting kidney stones. Please book an appointment if you want more tailored advice and treatment alternatives.

2024.05.21 12:34 hdkgxkg Tricks you’ve learned for mitigating prednisone side effects?

Whole body aches and pains, fatigued yet awake, nausea… any tricks of the trade you’ve learned to help ease the side effects? I’ve read a few people saying to eat high-potassium foods.
Also is this action on my asthma so far about normal? I took 40 mg yesterday morning. Yesterday I was able to get by with only 6 puffs of albuterol throughout the day, whereas for the past few weeks it’s been around 12 or more. By the evening I was quite tight and REALLY needed the albuterol and my usual Flovent. After that I haven’t needed the albuterol through the night, but I do feel a little tightness this morning. But I hear all these stories about how prednisone is a miracle drug and makes you feel 100% better within a couple hours, so I’m worried it isn’t going to work for me. Any experiences like mine where the 5 day course DID end up working completely?

2024.05.21 12:25 CleanPhotograph3048 How long did your pain last?

I need an idea on how long to expect the pain following my hysterectomy.
My story: I had a total hysterectomy/cystoscopy performed 5/8 due to endometriosis that decided to attach itself to various organs it didn’t belong on. It had been about three years of bleeding nonstop (this is not exaggerated-I should have taken up stock in pads) and horrible pain that no doctor believed. I saw five different obgyns before I found one who would listen to me and stay true to her word to give me a hysterectomy. Fast forward a few months and I got my surgery. They performed a cystoscopy in hospital with the hysterectomy and cleaned out my endo while inside. I was inpatient one night in the hospital to monitor pain/bleeding control. I can’t take NSAIDs so no ibuprofen for me- I am on blood thinners for a clotting disorder and history of several DVTS/pulmonary emboli.
I went home on Percocet because the norco was not controlling my pain. I used them sparingly after the first day or so home. I am not a big pain pill person. They upset my stomach & my dad was lost to substance abuse (started with script pain meds) so I avoid them like the plague. Started having signs of infection day 2 at home. Could not get past my triage nurse to get a note to my doctor. Day 5, 3rd try, after being told to take Tylenol and/or Benadryl, I ended up in my doctors office at her request. Immediately was directly readmitted to the hospital 5 days post op hysterectomy for a nasty, fast-moving infection-I said my pain was 7/10 initially but it only got worse from here. My initial liver labs were elevated so they wouldn’t allow anything with Tylenol. What does that leave? Something called roxicodone- oxy without Tylenol essentially-which gave me sleep paralysis and no pain control whatsoever. Was put on Vancomycin for the infection which then caused a systemic allergic reaction. Was given Hydroxizine to calm that down and Benadryl cream. It did not help much. Was discharged on day 10 post op, with clindamycin to take every 6 hours for 7 days for the infection. They sent home the roxicodone which I said did not help. Went home and began taking antibiotics. Had another allergic reaction, this time a full body, horrendously itchy and burning rash. Called my primary doctor and she took me off of it immediately. She sent me in Keflex. I’m allergic to amoxicillin so this should be a party as well. I have an appointment with the surgeon in three weeks. I have an appt with infectious disease this Friday. I have an appointment with GI for my liver problems (likely caused by surgery or the allergic reaction) Tuesday. I have no pain meds I can take, not even Tylenol or ibuprofen. They told me to take Benadryl and sent in a prescription for Gabapentin and told to use the Benadryl to “knock myself out”. Gabapentin isn’t working but I’m taking it anyways because I don’t know what else to do, hoping maybe it’ll build up some tiny amount of pain control in my system somehow.
I’m not on any weird registry for pain meds issues because I usually just flat out don’t take them, ever. Even when offered them. I don’t understand how this is okay.
So -here I am -2 weeks into this mess, rawdogging this hysterectomy and subsequent infection pain. I’ve been using ice packs and heat packs to do what I can, Zofran that my primary doc sent me in for extremely bad nausea (probably due to the pain), my third round of antibiotics, Benadryl for the leftover allergy rash, and I’m thinking about asking a wrestler to knock me out with a metal chair. I’m on day 13 with no pain relief in sight. I can’t sleep. I’m miserable. Please tell me the pain is going to diminish soon. Tell me what helped you with pain. 🙏

2024.05.21 11:00 alien_mermaid Went into Baby Voice/Toddler self for first time recently........

So recently I had 2 experiences where I went into like my toddler self and spoke like a toddler. First time was during my first ever Aya ceremony...which was very traumatic, painful and scary....I reverted into a baby and talked like a toddler for hours and could not speak like an adult. Then just the other day I had my first EMDR session with a therapist and I went back in time to some traumatic childhood abuse and had like a panic attack (starting feeling out of my body, extremely nauseas, hot and cold, hyperventilating, losing it) then the therapist tried to do a technique with me to "put the memory away in the file cabinet" and I went into toddler voice again and was my baby self. Anyone experienced anything similar? thanks

2024.05.21 09:27 lilmeowcatt After advice for sickdosing with recurrent illnesses

Apologies for the long read ahead, just trying to give context 😅
(I'm SAI if that matters, no pituitary tumor, not caused my steroid use, they aren't sure of cause, possibly post partum hemorrhage and secondary post partum hemorrhage but endocrine aren't sure.)
Tips on sick dosing on hydrocortisone for tummy bugs? My normal daily dose is 10mg waking, 5mg 12-2pm 5mg 5-7pm (depending when I wake and take first dose)
Last weekend I caught a tummy bug from my kids, had doubled my dose, and I didn't feel too bad, threw up maybe 5x throughout the course of it. Come Tuesday I went into my doctor for routine bloods.. Dr didn't even take my bloods, my BP was 83/something and HR 144 and he rung me an ambulance and sent me straight to hospital from the doctors surgery 🙃
hospital had me on 24h fluids and 6hrly IV hydrocortisone 100mg.
Wednesday night i was allowed home again and told to take double my dose for a few days.
Friday was my beautiful daughter's 9th birthday and we had her best friend stay the weekend, was a busy weekend but was great, then yesterday (monday) I had awful abdominal pain and a very upset stomach, was on the toilet most of the day (sorry for TMI) i thought maybe food poisoning but my daughters friend apparently had been up vomitting since 2am Monday, so I'm thinking it's actually ANOTHER stomach bug.
I've been keeping up my anti nausea and have only thrown up once, but the gut is really not happy still.. have taken double dose again but worried I'm doubling too much/often? BP 93/74.
Just after some advice around recurrent illnesses? I'm scared for the winter bugs to come, only diagnosed in September, and have spent 7ish weeks all up in hospital since then with a multitude of different problems, all in turn effecting my cortisol, and I'm just wanting to avoid hospital as much as I can, my babies (9y and 6y) need me home ❤️ but of course they need a healthy mum too.
If you managed to get this far, thankyou ❤️

2024.05.21 09:27 M1mikyu_ Tf do I eat??

So, a little bit of context and important info. I'm 15 years old and my parents are really bad when it comes to my health (gaslighting me, telling me it's my fault, ignoring me, etc.) so I am trying to as much as I can to help myself since it usually takes my parents 3 months to 3 years to agree to schedule an appointment. I have no current diagnosis but POTs and chronic fatigue has been suspected. I have no idea what's wrong with my gastrointestinal system. About two months ago, I started getting frequent nausea + stomach aches. It's getting so painful to eat. I've tried basic meds like pepto bismol but it didn't help. I can't recognize a pattern in the "no" foods, A couple of the ones on the "no" list of that I can remember right now is apples, sodas, burger, lollipop, soup, popsicles, yogurt, pizza, chips, mac n cheese, tomatoes, fruit roll ups, ramen, and oranges. I'm struggling to find food that is tolerable. I can eat oatmeal, most protein bars, those little Gerber baby puff snack things, dried seaweed, plus plain popcorn. Any suggestions on what to try next?? sorry in advance but my list of food allergies are: kiwis, pears, papayas, pistachios, peanuts, fish, crab, shrimp, and potentially pumpkin seeds and pecans. My mom has purposely "lost" or procrastinated bloodwork so idk if there is more.

2024.05.21 09:15 zion_lion Requesting info/opinions for my work cat

Hello! I work at a garden shop that has a sweet shop cat who lives there. When I first started working there around November 2023 she was slimmer, active outside, and incredibly friendly to customers and my colleagues. Since around January of this year I've noticed she's gained quite a bit of weight and mostly sleeps when I'm there, which isn't a lot, but it still seems like a noticeable change to me. The shop is across the street from a marsh and she used to trek about over there or nap in the front yard. She's now unable to clean herself because of her weight gain so she's also quite dirty. She also rarely goes outside and just sleeps in the same general area of the shop. She's only 6 or 7 years old. I have a 7 almost 8 year old cat and she's still quite active and spends a lot of time outside so she's my reference point. I wondered if she was pregnant because of the rapid weight gain as well as pronounce nipples but she is fixed. My manager says she's "full of worms" however when I looked up those symptoms I saw weight loss, not gain, as a symptom. They've also given her dewormer and said they've seen them coming out of her butt, but it's been over a month since I mentioned this and she still looks bloated and uncomfortable. I'm curious if there's anything people may think of that could be causing her symptoms. I'm TRYING to get the owner to take her to the vet/let me take her but he basically said he'd let nature take its course/"natural selection" 😭 I can't stand to see her like this but she doesn't appear to be in pain or have any other dire symptoms. I spoke with my manager and she's going to press the owner about the vet but said ultimately any health decisions would be up to him. People who have worked there longer than I have said she had a "chunkier" period but they put her on a diet and she lost the weight. They have recently increased her food again, but the personality changes + rapid weight gain are what concern me most. There are comparison photos in my post history. I apologize for the quality/angles of the photos and if I'm missing any key information. I am happy to answer as much as I can. I just want to help this sweet baby get her mojo back. Thanks in advance!
I also posted this in cathelp but here is the info I know that I grabbed from the FAQ Species: Feline Age: 6-7 years old Sex/Neuter status: Female/fixed Breed: Calico Body weight: 10+ lbs History: History of being overweight, lost tail in an accident Clinical signs: Rapid weight gain, lethargy, change in personality Duration: ~ 5 months Your general location: Humboldt County, CA
Links to test results, vet reports, X-rays etc: N/A at this time

2024.05.21 09:00 Sea-Particular9959 Placenta previa 12 weeks and 24/7 nausea that won't ease?

So I guess I need some reassurance because i'm finding myself absolutely freaking out tonight after a number of weeks of various stressors, family loss, etc so its just been so hard. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and last week at my scan the tech said "oh it's anterior placenta but I can't tell whether it's low lying or not. If it is, you'll need a c-section." c-sections are literally my worst nightmare, I suffer from emetophobia and very specific medical fears regarding my stomach and abdomen surgery. Anyway, today the written report came back saying it's definitely "overlying" the cervix so I assume that's totally covering it rather than just low lying. I know it's early days but I'm freaking out real bad. I have also had a very bad time with painful gas, extreme nausea, heartburn, reflux, basically a variety of stomach upsets that, in the best of times, stress me out. But this has been next level. I have only dry retched a handful of times, I haven't vomited. My midwife told me the nausea should be all gone at 8 weeks so at 12-13 she's worried it will be here the whole pregnancy which is just something I can't go through with, especially with the rest on top. Does anyone have any reassurance about feeling extremely nauseas and bad and it going away soon for me, as well as a complete placenta covering cervix at 12 weeks that has resolved without too much stress?? I don't even know whether to have sex or whatever, not that I feel well for that yet, but no one is telling me anything. I have had a really bad nausea flare up the last 2 days after thinking I might start to feel slightly better last week, when I did a lot of walking and had more stress over the weekend. So its all feeling too much for me.

2024.05.21 08:44 potatojulie Ongoing burping and nausea

22F, 5’5, 130 lbs I’ve had GI issues since I was little (mainly gastritis that eventually cleared on its own in about two years), and since then I’d get mild discomfort and pain from time to time, which I thought it was just reflux and that would get better after taking Gavsicon.
The thing is - I guess it was triggered by a lot of stress in a short period of time, but one night a year and a half ago, after feeling the same pain and discomfort and after taking Gaviscon - the discomfort transformed into bloating and eventually belching.
After that night, for a few months, this belching would recur only once in a while, and it would only be annoying little burps after meals. Then, after every time I had to go on a trip (for which I guess I unnecessarily stressed myself again), these episodes would get worse and worse. I was diagnosed with IBS and given probiotics initially, which seemed to improve my burping (tho it didn’t go away).
For three months now, it’s been a lot worse - I’d wake up feeling bloated and needing to burp (mainly smaller, unproductive burps), which would make me really nauseous and feeling like I need to vomit, but nothing would come out except for air; needing to burp profusely after every meal or drink (at first I tried following the FODMAP diet, reducing stuff like gluten and dairy and legumes, which helped a bit but not anymore), now I even struggle falling and staying asleep because of the pressure and nausea. My anxiety has skyrocketed, which I know only makes things worse, but I can’t seem to calm down because I constantly feel ill.
I don’t know how correlated it is to IBS itself, because only recently I started feeling pain in the abdomen (and I think it’s mostly related to gas), and even though I’ve noticed some changes in stool, again it is recent and BMs don’t seem to improve or worsen the other symptoms. I’ve also had a few episodes of hypersalivating and feeling a lump in my throat, but it’s not constant. I’ve been on PPIs for a month but didn’t feel any better.
It’s worth mentioning that I tested for celiac, H pylori, both negative.
Is it really just IBS, is it my anxiety? At this point I’m so desperate for an answer, because these symptoms have taken over my life, and I can’t even function properly 😭 Any insight would be appreciated, thank you.

Echinacea Goldenseal Supreme 2 oz by Gaia Herbs has become a staple in my home during the cold and flu season. The herbal blending is potent and effective in providing a significant boost to the immune system. The taste is definitely on the earthy side, but it's a small price to pay for not having to endure a full-blown cold.
I particularly like the liquid format of this product. It's easy to take a dropper full whenever I feel the first signs of a cold or flu coming on. The swift action of this tincture has helped me stave off many would-be illnesses. Plus, it's easy to mix into my tea, making it even more palatable.
Gaia Herbs has a reputation for producing high-quality products and their customer support is top-notch. However, one downside to this tincture is the serving size. Six dropper fulls four to six times a day can be quite a chore, especially for those who are not fond of the taste. Nonetheless, I would recommend this product, especially if you're looking for a natural and potent way to manage colds and flu. Just be prepared to commit to multiple servings daily.

🔗Goldenseal Root Extract Capsules for Immunity Support and Digestive Aid by Herbamama

https://preview.redd.it/o19urff56q1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a82a6f3dd86d7d6de35c6393e82a58437037032e
As someone who's been using Herbamama Goldenseal Root Extract Supplement for a few weeks now, I can say it's a game-changer. I've been struggling with digestion issues and occasional UTIs, and this little capsule has been my savior. Goldenseal is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it perfect for soothing away tummy troubles.
One of the things that really impressed me about this supplement is the potency. Each capsule contains 700mg of pure goldenseal root extract, which definitely packs a punch when it comes to relieving my symptoms. Plus, the capsules are really easy to swallow and don't leave a horrible aftertaste in your mouth like some supplements do.
On the downside, I have had to take more than the recommended dose in order to see results, but that's probably just because my body is used to getting a stronger dose at the doctor's office. Overall, I'm really happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a natural way to help with digestion issues, UTIs, or other respiratory issues.
The only real downside is that it's not a permanent solution, but for short-term relief, Herbamama Goldenseal Root Extract Supplement is definitely worth a try.

🔗Organic Gotu Kola Energy & Focus Supplement

https://preview.redd.it/0omqwkr56q1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e88e394a795f972ed4ad1a199684fa3aecbd32d
As a long-time user of Himalaya Organic Gotu Kola, let me tell you, I've seen a significant improvement in my energy levels and memory since incorporating these caplets into my daily routine. I no longer feel sluggish during the day and my brain feels like it's firing on all cylinders. Plus, the fact that these are made with organic ingredients, are gluten-free, and vegan-friendly, well, it's just an added bonus.
However, I will say that the taste isn't the best. It has a very earthy flavour that can be quite strong. But don't worry, because the aftertaste isn't very noticeable. Overall, I would recommend giving these a try if you're looking for a little boost in your day. Highly recommended!

🔗Organic Echinacea Goldenseal Immune Support

As an avid user of natural remedies, I can't help but gush about Oregon's Wild Harvest Organic Orange Echinacea Goldenseal Glycerite. This little bottle of herbal goodness has become my go-to for when I know a cold might be brewing.
The first thing that stands out to me is the delicious orange flavor. Unlike other Echinacea and Goldenseal products, there's no lingering alcohol taste, making it much more palatable. Plus, it's certified organic and GMO-free which gives me peace of mind.
Its benefits are astounding. Not only does this product boost my immunity, but it also soothes my respiratory system, making it easier for me to breathe during allergy season or when I'm feeling under the weather.
However, no product is perfect. The serving size is quite small - just 1mL - so you might find yourself going through it faster than expected. But honestly, that's a small price to pay for such powerful relief.
All in all, I can't recommend this product enough. It's become a staple in my medicine cabinet and a reliable ally during times of illness.

🔗Sana Life Collagen & Greens Powder - Multi Collagen Supplement for Skin, Hair, Nails, Gut Health - 30 Servings, Unflavored

https://preview.redd.it/juooxqh66q1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d7b152deef4cafbcf060b19ed06bc5a0277df6f
I recently added Sana Life's Collagen & Greens Powder to my morning routine, and I'm absolutely hooked. Before, I dreaded drinking greens powders, but Sana has changed the game. The taste is truly unmatched. It's like drinking a fruity juice, but with the added benefits of collagen and hyaluronic acid - it's like a magical beauty potion in a bottle.
One of the best things about this product is how versatile it is. I can mix it into my morning smoothie, or even just with water, and it still tastes amazing. Additionally, I've noticed a difference in my hair and skin since starting this supplement. My hair feels stronger and my skin looks healthier. Plus, it supports gut health, which is always a bonus.
However, not everything is perfect with this product. The unflavored version, while still being quite good, could use some improvement in terms of taste. Some users mention that they can taste something off, which can be off-putting.
Overall, Sana Life's Collagen & Greens Powder has been a game-changer in my daily routine. It's a quick and easy way to get a boost of nutrients, and I look forward to seeing the long-term benefits. If you're considering trying this product, I would highly recommend it. Just make sure to give the unflavored version a chance!

🔗BetterLungs: 60 Capsules for Seasonal Sinus & Bronchial Support

https://preview.redd.it/s2mtfhu66q1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c59014047fe351e3efaaf5dc965da33f23caafa
I've had the pleasure of trying out BetterBrand BetterLungs-60 Capsules, and I must say, it's been quite an experience. Though the reviews and ratings are varied, I personally found it to be quite effective in enhancing my lung health. The standout features for me were the natural components that worked together to minimize my coughing frequency and boost the overall health of my airways.
One significant highlight was the noticeable improvement in sinus and bronchial support, making it much easier for me to breathe easily. I also appreciated the fact that it came as a 30-day supply, which was convenient considering my busy lifestyle.
However, I must admit there were some cons to this product. Some users reported experiencing pain and discomfort from its use, so it may not be the best fit for everyone. Additionally, the quality control during shipping has been a concern for some buyers, which can tarnish the overall impression of the product.
Overall, I would recommend BetterLungs-60 Capsules to those looking for a natural way to enhance their lung health and support their respiratory system. Just be sure to assess your personal tolerance before incorporating it into your daily routine.

According to many historians, the English Enlightenment may never have happened were it not for coffeehouses, the public sphere where poets, critics, philosophers, legal minds, and other intellectual gadflies regularly met to chatter about the pressing concerns of the day. And yet, writes scholar Bonnie Calhoun, “it was not for the taste of coffee that people flocked to these establishments.”
Indeed, one irate pamphleteer defined coffee, which was at this time without cream or sugar and usually watered down, as “puddle-water, and so ugly in colour and taste [sic].”
No syrupy, high-dollar Macchiatos or smooth, creamy lattes kept them coming back. Rather than the beverage, “it was the nature of the institution that caused its popularity to skyrocket during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.”

🚨There is one dog on the euthanasia list this week at Orange County Animal Services (Orlando, FL).
She entered the shelter as a stray, scared and unable to tolerate being leashed. She is very social with people, laying next to you or climbing into your lap for cuddles and body rubs and pets. The shelter believes she is blind, as she startles easily and stumbles when walked on a leash. She may do best with a harness to walk.
She went out to foster care for a while, unfortunately no information is available from that time period, except that she was returned to the shelter for medical concerns of whimpering in pain and lethargy. She was found to have pleural effusions and possibly pneumonia, lasix was given with a recommendation of follow up with an outside vet clinic. They also suspect pyometra due to abdominal discomfort, although she is noted to have a large non reducible umbilical hernia as well.
This poor girl. They think she may be a hospice case and we don't know if that's the case or what she's been through, but we hope she finds peace and love for the rest of days, however many or few she may have left. We hope she can be pulled by rescue for a full veterinary clinic to examine her and determine her best course of care.
Anna is 8 years old, only 27 lbs, intact and heartworm negative. Please help us share her story.

2024.05.21 08:27 Unkn0wnimous [No Due Date] Looking to get some feedback on the first chapter of the story I made after posting the prologue here. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter 1
Mors
An endless void, silence interlaid with its pitch-darkness, greeted an injured man. No light can be seen, sensations be damned, and consciousness spread thin as though taut in this incomprehensive expanse that laid before him.
Callum fell into the abyss, his mind the only thing left to accompany him. He hasn’t even counted the minutes as his mind is plagued by something else. He never considered himself a man of interest, only scraping by with his odd jobs and part-time salaries, hence why he couldn’t understand his current situation.
Betrayal is something that he is familiar with, whether it be a betrayal of his expectations when a co-worker broke his promise or a betrayal of his emotions when his first love interest cheated on him back in uni. However, this betrayal orchestrated by his best friend whom he’d known for 5 years, and girlfriend for 8 years felt more gut-wrenching than the pain he felt from the stab.
Denial was the first thing that stormed his mind. He couldn’t believe that the two closest people in his life would stab him in the back, literally. There was no build-up, he didn’t suspect a thing, and everything was normal until he found steel in his flesh.
He rejected the notion that his girlfriend, Catherine, would betray him like this, an accomplice to a murder that he can’t grasp the motive of. He has built up some savings, but it isn’t something that would be worth murdering someone for, especially after buying that ring.
He dismissed the thought of Jake being jealous of their relationship as he couldn’t see the guy doing something as stupid as this. He can’t form any rhyme or reason as to why they would do it, and the only possible explanation is that this was all a dream and he was actually still sleeping inside the tent.
But as he waited for himself to wake from this nightmare, only darkness greeted him. He had tried moving his body in this sea of blackness, but the movement only felt like going through molasses with tired arms, which is why he attributed this as being only a dream that he would wake up from, which appeared to be wrong as he waited and waited.
Anxiety crept in as he tried to call out, but no sound escaped his lips. He strained his voice to be heard, yet he can't even hear himself. No light adorned this place, no wind to be heard, and he couldn’t feel anything even though he tried feeling himself.
The pain in his back was forgotten as he tried and tried to move, to scream, to flail senselessly, amounting to nothing as he was greeted by nothing.
Feeling anything in this void is something impossible, and the only thing that he can do is return to his mindscape.
He went back to his oldest memories, back to a time when everything felt oppressive and suffocating. Callum was born into a broken family. His mother and father had gone through a divorce when he was only 6 years old. He could still remember the screaming and yelling of his parents whenever night fell in their sorry state of an apartment.
His father, Eric, having not finished his education after Callum’s birth, has been living as a blue-collar worker in downtown New Jersey. Even during his day-offs, he can’t seem to find rest as he goes to do odd jobs and part-time work to stay afloat. On the other hand, his mother would leave him, a toddler, alone in the apartment.
He remembered her putting CDs in a DVD player so that it could keep his attention on a cartoon that his father introduced him to. If he had anything to describe his mother, she would be irresponsible and narcissistic. She would sometimes bring guys over to their apartment, threatening Callum with divorce if he ever told Eric about it, hence why it took several years until his dad caught on and filed for a divorce.
Eric was determined to take Callum with him, he argues that he could take care of his child better than Callum’s mother. But his mother and her twisted pride can’t let go of Callum, which leads to a legal dispute between the two.
The court hearings went on for several months, with each passing day being a lot more hellish for Callum. He was subjected to further insults by his mother as she knew that leaving bruises on her child would lower her chances of winning over the court to her side. Sometimes, she would go as far as manipulate him, gaslighting him into believing that she was a good mother who would take care of him better than his father. But after seeing that the court favors Eric’s side more, his mother took drastic measures to satisfy her wounded pride.
It was the second to the last day of the court hearing, and it was during this time that his father was working overtime. Callum had just gone home from his elementary school, feeling tired as he hauled his bag over his shoulders up the multiple flights of stairs he had to climb to get to their apartment.
As he neared his home, he steeled himself and opened the door, only to be met with overturned tables and broken ceramics. He walked quietly through the scene, afraid that someone might hear him entering his home. Looking back on it now, Calum can’t help himself but laugh at his stupidity. He could have gone and alerted their neighbors, or gone back downstairs to wait for his father, but being a child, Callum doesn’t know what to do.
As he entered his room, he saw black words spray painted on the walls, the meaning eluding him as he didn’t know what it meant since he was 7 at the time, but remembering it now sent shivers down his spine.
The words “This is what you get!” on a torn wallpaper are ingrained in his mind. Seeing the manic letters sprayed over the walls gave Callum anxiety, taking a few steps back towards the open front door of their apartment. Escape was now on his mind as he grew scared of what was to come, something that was far too late as he heard his mother behind him.
It was there that everything turned into a blur. He remembered snippets of yelling and crying both from himself and his mother. He remembered his mother forcing something down his throat. He remembered his father coming home early that day and restraining his mother, a crazy look in her eyes. He remembered the feeling of nausea and the floor colored with his lunch. And he remembered the sirens, red and blue lights dancing in his vision as he was carried to a stretcher. The last thing he remembered was his father crying, holding his hands tightly when he opened his tired eyes.
For the next few days, he learned from the news that his mother attempted a double suicide. The story goes, after losing the custody battle, the mother planned to take revenge by ending the lives of both her child and herself. They said that he got lucky as the neighbors had contacted Eric when his mother turned their home upside down, relating it to a possible home invasion. If not for him, Callum would have died from nicotine poisoning after his mother forced tobacco down his gullet, a morbid story that he uses as a joke during his time at work.
He remembered being inside that hospital for days on end, his body recovering from the poison his mother left him with, and his father was there almost every day even though he had to work to pay the hospital bills. After what felt like forever was he allowed to be discharged, going back to the same refurbished apartment that they lived in, but after seeing how Callum had recurring nightmares and trauma attached to the place, they decided to move to Pennsylvania. A hard decision that needed to be made as his father would put it.
Everything after the whole incident was better for Callum. His father got a job as a mover, still doing some part-time work here and there, and Callum did his best in school so as not to burden his father with more work. Even though they lived in a rundown shack handed to them by one of the locals, they didn’t mind as they knew that getting to live at all was better than what they had before.
Callum smiled in the abyss as he reminisced about his time with his father. He was a great man, a good role model for anyone who came across him. He is kind-hearted and considerate, a hard worker that makes him popular among his peers. It was them that helped move him and his father out of New Jersey and found them a place to sleep in, teaching Callum that socializing and connecting with like-minded people goes a long way when someone needs it.
For the next few years, Callum lived happily. Though there were some ups and downs, he and his father got through it, which is why the memory of his time in university was depressing.
Eric, after having saved some money, gave Callum the go-ahead to enroll in a university in California. But after attaining an athletic scholarship in football, Callum gave his father a surprise to ease his worries and stress. Callum felt bad every time he saw his father work, hence why he tried his hardest to take some of that workload to give him a break. With the tuition being lowered with the scholarship, Callum could give the rest of the money back to his dad. A gesture that was fully gratified as his father had a hard time letting him go when the time came to move over to the university. But it was during this time that tragedy struck.
It was his fourth year in studying anthropology when he heard the news from one of his father’s friends, Robby. After hearing it, he grew distressed and worried, taking a lot of convincing from Robby to keep Callum from moving back to Pennsylvania.
His father has gone missing. The news had spread amongst his co-workers and friends, and a search team was already being dispatched to find him. Even though Callum tried to keep his focus on studying, he couldn’t help but feel agitated as days went by without news of his father being seen. His mental state plummeted, and he grew withdrawn from reality as days turned to weeks, his father still gone.
He could still remember the times when he locked himself in the school’s library, searching the web to find any news or reports of his father's whereabouts, but as he searched for days on end, only one thing kept popping up from the newsletters. His father, Eric Hurst Foster, went missing in his own home. There were no struggles in the house, the CCTV didn’t see him on any of the roads or stores in the town they lived in, he just seemed to have vanished into thin air.
The news ate away at Callum, and his friends that he’d made during the time gave their support to keep him from spiraling out of control. However, even with their support, Callum’s worries over his dad never went away, hence why he threw himself into work. Going to part-time jobs and studying is the only way to keep his mind from blowing. He did this until he finished university and found a job to stay afloat.
This went on for years until he’s come to accept that his father may never be found. With nothing to ground him in their old home, he decided to explore the world, thinking that one day, he might find a lead to the whereabouts of his dad.
Months turned to years as he worked tirelessly in multiple jobs. From being a mechanic, electrician, cook, waiter, and many more to count, Callum went on a work frenzy. He made a plan to scour the states as a freelancer, living in his BMW pick-up truck that was given to him by one of his friends. He stayed in each state for a few months, meeting new people and making some friends along the way. They sent their well wishes to Callum as they knew that he was still trying to find his missing father.
Years went by as he made his way back to California. He had gone and explored every state, and yet no news of his father came to light. The case had gone cold, and it was up to Callum to find any clues to this mystery. His mind has told him to give up the search, and multiple friends have given him consolation as they knew that his father would never be found, but Callum persevered.
It was during this time that he found himself as a mover, the same job that his father had before he disappeared. He had just come back to California after getting the job, and he was about to go check in for his first day when a sudden downpour of rain covered the skies of the city. It was only coincidental that he was near that coffee shop, and it was coincidental that only two customers were present there. He and his future girlfriend turned accomplice to his murder.
The rest of his memories went by as he continued to float in the abyss. From the time of their first years in a relationship to meeting Jake for the first time in that apartment to when he taught PE and History in a school in Minnesota. Everything went by as Callum went from one memory to another until he felt something.
A chill ran down his spine as an indescribable dread manifested in his mind. He knew not why he felt this way, and he felt himself tearing at the seams as a slit of light showed itself in the void. He was then pulled into the light, senses coming back after he spent his time in the abyss for what felt like days. And with a flash, he is back in the same hunched-over position he was in when he was stabbed in the back.
Callum can’t help but laugh as he finally could see again. Trees surrounded his vision, with wild grass carpeting the ground. But before he could truly see the world, he felt a sharp pain in his back. With his body remembering that he was injured, he felt himself sweat profusely as he bled, painting the flowers under him red. And yet he didn’t panic.
After all that time reminiscing, he finally gave in and let death come to him. He fell on his back, sending another wave of pain coursing through his body, cursing under his breath as he regretted not laying himself down slowly. And as he looked to the sky, he felt himself getting colder and colder.
Callum felt at peace as he stared at the clouds above him. The sound of the wind and the rustling of leaves helped him come to terms that he was truly dying. He’d thought about death a lot. During his time when he was a kid, and when he was depressed after his father went missing. But the peace he felt for only a few moments as emotions came crashing down.
He felt himself tear up as he came to terms with his current situation. He would never have a chance to marry the girl in his life. He would never have a chance to have his own children and see them grow. He would never have a chance to be a father. And he would never have a chance to grow old with the people he loved around him.
As he thought of these things, the floodgates opened. Streams of tears fell down his cheeks as he sobbed in his dying state. He could only put his hands over his eyes to stop it from flowing, an action that felt challenging as his body became fatigued from all the blood loss. The crying only hastened his death as he felt his breath escape him, his lungs labored and filled with blood as the stab had punctured it.
Minutes went by as Callum felt himself grow tired and tired. And as he closed his eyes, Callum’s heart slowed and slowed as his body has a lack of blood to pump. His breathing grew shallower with each second until his body gave way and stopped altogether.
Callum died at the age of 34, stabbed in the back by his best friend with his girlfriend being an accomplice for his murder. He died from blood loss as his body colored the ground red.
Callum waited and waited to feel his consciousness fade as he welcomed death to greet him. And as the second grew…
'…Wait.'
His consciousness never faded away.

2024.05.21 07:04 Ok-Pianist-9729 Am I wrong for needing to go to the ER

(F20) I will try my best to keep this as short and to the point. My mom got sick a couple of weeks ago and I got sick starting 3 days ago after visiting a relatives house.
I have been struggling to breathe, gasping for air, walking even 2 steps winds me and I have to recover, coughing up mucus, throwing up, nausea, not eating, chest pain, back pain, cough, diarrhea, throat pain, headache, stomach pain, everything but a fever (as far as I'm aware. I didn't keep checking)
On Saturday I woke up literally gasping for air with 8/10 chest pain. I went to the ER and got 2 antibiotics. Had tests done and came back with pneumonia. I went home. Continued to struggle while waiting for antibiotics to kick in and I kept taking a bunch of meds my mom suggested (sudafed, mucinex, ibuprofen, Tylenol, vaporub etc) but nothing helped and she wouldn't really believe me.
I kept struggling and groaning in pain and while walking so much that my dad kept yelling at me to shut up about it and told me to get out, cussing me out and then he called out of work and told my mom he's not going to work because of me. Then I started feeling really sorry.
On Monday its been 3 days of taking antibiotics and I am still gasping for breath. I called my PCP’s Nurse hotline and she basically was threatening (not really but just very concerned) to call me an ambulance but I know that would make my mom very angry.
The nurse had me straight up give my phone to my mom to try to convince her to take me to the hospital but my mom was not having it. I'm aware and sympathetic that she is feeling sick as well, but at least she was breathing and able to sleep. I was constantly gasping for air, but since I could get out sentences sometimes she did not believe me. I eventually stopped being able to get out sentences. I seriously don't know how to get anyone to take me seriously.
She took me to the hospital very mad and frustrated and it showed and I felt more sorry and I just kept apologizing. She said that she will quit her job and that she should just quit. She started screaming and stomping. (F50) (she has PTO, I don't, so I will not be getting anything) (she also submitted my medical papers for her to miss work)
I kept telling her she doesn't have to take me and I will find someone else but she insisted but continued to keep blowing up on me.
I go and wait for about 4 hours then I come back with asthma and bronchitis with the pneumonia. I didn't know I had asthma prior. They sent me 6 medications to take.
I can now breathe currently after respiratory therapy. I'm still nauseous and in pain though.
We got home and I apologized to her, then she started yelling at me and then I cried (I always cry because I'm weak and sensitive) and then she says I need to go to a crisis center, get help, get back on my medication (I got off of it because it was messing up my body. Now I'm only just in therapy) and that my depression is ruining her mental health. I continued to cry and I called my sister then my sister told me how she's tired of hearing from us (my parents get drunk every night and they got drunk a couple nights ago and had a nasty fight and I was also targeted because my mom overheard me crying in my room because they were fighting long story)
My sister says she understands how my mom feels.
My mom denies anything that I say that she has ever said or done, even if they said or done that thing 3 seconds before. She blacks out and scares me.
I don't know how else I was supposed to get to the hospital besides calling an ambulance because she would be mad then. But I couldn't call anyone else for help (I don't have anyone) and the nurse wouldn't send me a ride because my condition was too severe I guess.
She only takes about herself and how I affect her and I feel like garbage for it.
She didn't stay with me or anything, just dropped me off and picked me up. There isn't an ER in my network that is nearby in walking distance.

Chapter 03

-1-
"Business opportunity?" Jack blinked, amused. "Intriguing. One doesn't often hear a noble propose such a thing to a [Necromancer]."
Roland shifted uncomfortably.
Ignoring him, Ethan leaned back in his chair.
"Let's just say these are unorthodox times, Jack. And frankly, the problems plaguing Holden call for equally unorthodox solutions." He gestured towards a nearby chair. "Do have a seat, and allow me to elaborate. It concerns a matter of public health, and specifically, a rather lackluster product currently on the market. One common folk cannot even afford."
Jack raised an eyebrow, taking the offered seat. "Public health and [Necromancy]? This does get more interesting by the moment, my lord."
Ethan leaned forward again.
"I'll be blunt. It's the Blight, Jack. You're undoubtedly familiar with its unpleasant effects." He wrinkled his nose slightly. "The lethargy, the nausea…and the frankly horrendous stench that clings to the afflicted."
"The Blight has stages, my lord. But yeah, I get the gist. Though, I confess, raising the recently departed isn't exactly..."
Ethan chuckled. "Not quite, my friend. While your talents with the departed are impressive, I have a different skillset in mind. One that involves cleanliness."
Jack's smile vanished, replaced by a wary arch of an eyebrow. "Cleanliness? You want a [Necromancer] for scrubbing floors?"
Ethan leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers. "Not scrubbing floors, precisely. What do you know about the Blight, Jack?"
"It's more than a mere sickness, my lord. It's a clinging parasite that latches onto the unfortunate soul and slowly devours their life force. The early signs are subtle—a sickly sweet odor, lethargy, pale clammy skin."
Jack shuddered dramatically, and continued. "Then comes the hunger. An insatiable craving that gnaws at their insides. The victims start developing a craving for raw flesh instead. Their mere touch becomes corrupting, causing plants to wilt and wounds to fester. Disembodied whispers of the spirits torment them, sapping their willpower—they're like a sweet escape from their suffering. It chips away at their will to fight, turning them inward until they become shells of their former selves."
Ethan blinked. Jack had a knack for theatrics and being dramatic, it seemed.
"In the final stages, the body decays into a walking corpse driven by an unquenchable hunger to consume the life force of others."
"Okay, stop," Ethan raised his hand with a sigh. "Who does the Blight infect?"
Jack took a deep breath. "That's the interesting part, my Lord. The Blight only seems to affect those with little to no mana. It's like mana acts as a shield. Majority of peasants are mana-less. It's a common disease, my lord. Even nobles suffer from the Blight; mostly children given that their mana is still developing."
"So, mana is our solution?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Why do you think no one's arrived at this conclusion given that the Blight is such a common occurrence you'd think there'd be a cure?"
"There is a cure, my lord. But—"
"It's way too expensive."
"Indeed, that is correct, my lord."
"Regardless, our solution here is sanitation. You see, the Blight thrives in filth. The stench, the lethargy, it all stems from a miasma that festers in unsanitary conditions. It eats on people's lifeforce. And the current concoction on the market does little to combat it. There's a simple solution—people are aware of it—but sadly, it's expensive, not as effective as it should be, and frankly, an insult to hygiene."
"Oh, are you talking about soap, my lord?"
"Soap," Ethan confirmed. "More specifically, newly made soap. As soap's made with magic here, it has slight mana in it—although it's a different matter altogether that said mana dissipates. Regardless, if bought new and used, it helps with the Blight. However, we need better soap. The current offerings are woefully inadequate, and at exorbitant prices. I envision a mass-produced, affordable soap that can combat the Blight's effects, doesn't lose mana, and can invigorate people."
Jack considered this for a moment. "And why, my lord, would a noble like yourself be concerned with such mundane matters?"
"Jack," Ethan's eyes narrowed slightly, his tone turning icy. "I believe you forget yourself. It is not your place to question nobility. I suggest you remember your place and focus on the task at hand."
Jack's face turned ashen. He quickly lowered his eyes. "I apologize, my lord."
"You are forgiven." Ethan didn't particularly enjoy being a noble, but now that he was one, he needed to maintain certain boundaries.
Though Ethan had been slightly taken aback, Jack was right. Nobles seldom cared about peasants. Even less when it came to the Blight. Any and all solutions currently available for this very normal cause of death were expensive. Current brick they sold as 'soap' was inadequate, had pathetic fragrance, and performed even less when it came to hygiene. So, most peasants die due to lack of money. They couldn't buy soap, and the concoction for the Blight was too expensive.
But I don't really think like the nobles, as I am not one.
Silence stretched between the two for several long moments, and in that silence, Ethan considered the consequences.
The consequences of Ethan's plan would be far-reaching. There definitely would be a political firestorm. Soapmakers, likely well-established guilds with ties to influential nobles, would see their profits plummet and their influence challenged. They'd spread rumors about Ethan's soap being inferior or even dangerous, and might even resort to sabotage, threats, blackmail, or the like. Ethan might also face resistance from other barons who profit from the inflated price of Blight remedies.
I need to be prepared for whatever they throw at me, 'cause they definitely will.
Beyond the immediate political struggle, there could be social unrest. Slower, more expensive production methods often employ a larger workforce given that [Mages] weren't always available to make soap. There had to be a manual process discovered by the [Mages] of this world—though having tried the soap himself, it was quite lacking.
Ethan's plans for mass-produced soap could lead to unemployment among those currently making soap. He'd need to be prepared to address these concerns, perhaps by retraining displaced workers or offering them jobs in the new production facilities. Though, then again, the guilds he'd poach the unemployed people from wouldn't take it lightly.
Regardless, I need to do it. Fuck the guilds. I don't think Theo's dad will let anything happen to him—aka me now.
Theo's family was rather big. His father, Lord Alexander Lockheart, was arguably ruthless and cold, but he usually held his family's interest in his mind—knowing him and his militaristic nature, Ethan didn't doubt he'd latch onto the opportunities to make some hefty sum of money—money which he could use to fund his militaristic endeavors. The man was ambitious.
*Theo's the 4***th child of the Lockhearts. Even aside from Theo's dad, he's got five siblings: three older and two younger siblings. Two of whom, I can easily rely on. The eldest sibling, Maximillian, or Juliana, who is the second eldest. Benson's the third child, and he doesn't like me much, so Maximillian and Juliana are my only hope—though they're kind of disappointed in how Theo behaved, they wouldn't let something happened to me*, especially knowing that I, "Theodore Lockheart", am turning over a new leaf. Not to mention Theo's mom's too soft.*
Knowing his safety wouldn't be an issue, Ethan looked at Jack. He had only spoken like Theo to make sure he could set a proper boundary with Jack. Deciding that the awkward silence had gone for far too long, he spoke with a lighter tone.
"Though, if you must know, the Blight doesn't discriminate. It cripples the poor, yes, but it also weakens soldiers and undermines trade. A healthy populace is a productive populace, one that can pay taxes and contribute to the well-being of the entire barony. Besides," he added, a sly smile returning, "imagine the profit. Affordable, effective soap for all? It would be a goldmine. I'm especially looking forward to the reaction of noblewomen. They'll be in a frenzy. They'll be begging for this soap. We'll be swimming in coin."
Which I need given the looming tax and Holden's fucked up financial situation...
Unaware of what was going through Ethan's mind, Jack tapped his chin thoughtfully. "And, with all due respect, my lord, why do you need my help? What possible use could a [Necromancer] have in the realm of soap-making?"
Ethan leaned back, a smile playing on his lips. "While your skills in manipulating life force are undoubtedly impressive, Jack, it's your less publicized talent I'm particularly interested in."
Jack's eyes narrowed for a moment. "You mean...?"
"Imbuement." Ethan said.
Ethan wasn't too sure, but given that [Necromancers] and [Witches] were infamous classes, he'd heard rumors. They often imbued objects. Corpses in [Necromancers'] case and certain objects in [Witches'] case. It wasn't mana that they imbued exactly, but something else—which he had no clue about—that let them have control over the corpse/object they imbued. But, given that these two classes were the most affordable ones that could imbue anything at all and were experts in that regard, Ethan was pretty sure Jack could achieve his goal.
That was his theory, of course. It all depended on how long they could hold the mana inside the soap. Making the soap affordable and high quality—that he could handle. Keeping the mana within it, though, and getting some decent returns? Well, that depended a lot on Jack.
Jack ran a nervous hand through his scraggly brown hair, his eyes glinting.
"What if we could imbue the soap with mana?" Ethan said. "It would disrupt the Blight's ability to feed on life force. Think of it as a sort of 'static' that interferes with the Blight's 'signal'. So, we imbue mana into soap."
Jack frowned, considering this. "That's an interesting idea, my lord. But how would we create such a thing? Soap is expensive to make; you would have to employ mages—"
"Leave the soap to me. Deal with imbuing mana instead. As a [Necromancer], you have a unique understanding of life force and how it can be manipulated. I believe that with your help, we can develop a method to imbue soap with mana that stays in for as long as possible—you are the expert in imbuement, after all. The soap would then not only clean the body, but also create a sort of protective barrier against the Blight." He leaned back in his chair, watching Jack's reaction closely. "So, what do you think? Are you up for it?"
-2-
Ethan hummed as the carriage came to a stop near the house where those infected by the Blight were being kept under quarantine, in the company of Roland. The house wasn't luxurious by any means, it was quite small really. But it had been secured to allow them to observe the tainted. Ethan exited the carriage along Roland and Jack, and soon they were greeted by a tall, slender man in robes.
"Ah, Lord Theodore. It is my utmost pleasure to meet your esteemed self." the robed man bowed. His voice was even, but there was a wariness there—clearly, the man was not comfortable dealing with Ethan, or more like, Theodore who was infamous for his... nature.
Ethan wasn't happy with how the people of Holden and everyone acquainted with Theo regarded him, a reputation that likely spread more than just this town, but he couldn't do anything about it. Logically, he'd just need to deal with it one step at a time.
"No need to be so tense... Sir Miller." Ethan briefly checked his memory to bring up the information of the man.
Miller was the head physician of Holden.
"Esteemed guest," The man was still bowing, clearly uncomfortable and unable to bring himself to stand straight before a notorious lord such as Theodore. "Do not concern yourself with trivial manners and come in. The tainted have been secured, and preparations made, so please, this way."
The man led Ethan inside and after crossing through an empty room, they reached a space sectioned off by iron grills. A group of men armed with spears surrounded the door from the outside—they were armed with spears so they could deal with anyone that reached the third stage and became a brain-dead zombie without getting near them. The tall and burly men eyed Roland and Ethan, on alert at a noble's presence.
Ethan covered his face in a mask, stepped over the grills, into the open hall with rows of beds lining both sides, where about ten people lay, most on their back. If they noticed their Lord, the people lying on the bed didn't act like they noticed anything. "Please, Lord Theodore...!" Miller said. "You mustn't get near!"
"Nothing to worry, I won't be tainted," Ethan said. He was a [Mage] after all, and unranked one, but a mage nonetheless. He looked at the patients one by one.
They do look sickly... it is one thing hearing about it, but this is far more eye opening... Sighing, Ethan turned around and walked out.
"Jack, do your thing."
"Yes, my lord." Jack said as Ethan made it to Roland.
"Roland, we need to go to the Deadwoods, you and I."
Roland appeared apprehensive but did not question Ethan's intentions.
As Ethan and Roland walked out, Jack got started on the subjects. Ethan looked ahead. Grassy meadows stretched far and wide, dotted by occasional trees and bushes. The sun's golden rays washed over the land, leaving an orange tinge on the distant mountains. To the west of Holden lay the Deadwoods—easily spotted, as it stood as an ominous expanse of darkness in the otherwise brightly lit region. A mountain range stretched behind the Deadwoods and clung to the earth, meeting the borders of Corinth.
Ethan had to admit, the place was a sight to see despite how much the Deadwoods stood out like a sore thumb amidst all this greenery. Even then, the Deadwoods held a unique allure. Ethan got into the carriage with Roland in tow, then with a light jolt the carriage started moving. It was being pulled by two horses.
"With all due respect, my Lord, this seems unwise, no?"
"It'll be fine," Ethan reassured. "We have guards with us, and I have you to protect me."
"Why, is it not better to simply let us know what you require so we may fetch it in your stead?"
Ethan smiled, but didn't answer.
The Deadwoods soon came closer as the carriage sped up, drawing near to a stretch of meadows with trees scattered every few paces or so.
The carriage rattled as it went over a particularly large bump. Ethan gave a quick glance at Roland—the man had grown quieter since their departure. Clearly, he was contemplating what sorts of heinous plans his new lord had in store.
Suddenly, the carriage lurched to a halt. Ethan poked his head out of the window and called, "What's the hold-up?"
The driver gave an apologetic bow. "There's a large rock in the road, my lord."
"Then have the guards get rid of it." Ethan's voice carried a subtle note of annoyance. He really didn't have time for delays—as a rule of thumb, he usually hated them.
"My lord," Roland said. "It's a trap. We're under attack."
An arrow slammed right beside Ethan's head the next instant.

2024.05.21 06:58 THROWRAFinancialAnt My medical abortion experience

This is a bit of a novel but I wanted to share my experience with my medical abortion, since I hunted so desperately for similar this time last week.

I have some time stamps with the meds/experience farther down if you want to scroll past this stuff. I’ll put it all in bold.

Period late 2 days. Found out I was pregnant last Sunday. My health insurance is in a gap rn so had to pay out of pocket. I was able to get it online. I ordered my two pills from ABuzz, they have a sliding scale if needed be and I had my pills by Wednesday. (Misoprostole and Mifeprostone) They sent all of the information needed and were very helpful. (Came with 1 Mife & 12 Miso)
(In between this, I did go to my clinic out of sheer nervousness and was basically told since my plan was abortion, they wouldn’t give an ultrasound unless it was far later along and I had intentions of keeping or had complications present. Nor would they help me go through with it. I really wasn’t willing to risk this, so I took a blood test that they had offered so I could get my HCG levels. It confirmed I was anywhere from about 4-8 weeks. They recommended I ask planned parenthood for advice/an ultrasound. The soonest ultrasound with PP was about 3.5/4 weeks from then, so ultimately I just chose to trust the HCG levels my primary care clinic provided.)
Fast forward a few days and it’s Friday & I was off work early, so I took the one Mifeprostone at 3p. I continued to run errands. I have a pretty shitty fear of vomiting so I took some Dramamine around 5pm. (I had a zofran script from my primary care doctor but it was sent to the wrong address, so I never received it) I experienced some very mild nausea and hot flash, but I had assumed it was anxiety. Other than this, I was completely fine with no side effects. Enjoyed a night out with friends.
The next day, I ran my errands and got some additional things I may of needed like Gatorade and some extra pads. I experienced some light cramping around 2pm. I was planning to take my 4 misoprostole after 3p (24 hours later), so I took 800mg of ibuprofen at about 3pm. Plans changed so I waited a bit longer, so it probably wasn’t necessary to even take the ibuprofen. I took some Dramamine about 6pm, because I planned to take the miso at 7. Started to spot while wiping at about 6:30pm. I made sure I ate, but again I have a fear of puking so I did safer foods for me like a light noodle soup, butter pasta, apple sauce and sweet potato fries.
Continued spotting when wiping until 8pm.
Saturday, At 8:10pm, I Inserted 4 misoprostole vaginally. Took Tylenol, smoked a tiny bit of weed, laid on couch with heating blanket immediately and started a new show.
Hour 1, 9:10pm, some light cramping, almost felt like the kind when you have to poop.
Hour 2, 10:10pm, tired so took a nap.
Hour 3, 11:10pm, woke up from nap a few minutes after this with some heavier cramping but nothing unmanageable. Went to toilet for first time. When sitting on toilet cramping started back up and I became nauseous and weak. Nearly fainted. I have a history of fainting when pain amps up like this. It’s nothing new, but I just laid down on the bathroom floor. I was in and out of talking to my partner. I dry heaved after about 15 minutes of just laying low and sipping some of my Gatorade. Took Dramamine. Sat on toilet after. Felt a bit better. Still cramping heavily. Loose stool. A dull pain still. Used the bathroom probably about 3x, blood poured out and I also had loose bowel movements every time.
Hour 4, 12:10am, Was still awake from hour prior when I woke up from nap. I took Tylenol at this time. I moved from the couch to our bedroom and went to lay down. As I was walking I became nauseous again, sat down and threw up quite a bit this time. As soon as I felt like I had everything out I was able to sip on some water and lay down. I immediately felt better and laid back down for bed. Put heating pad on my stomach and went to bed. assuming this is when the pregnancy had passed
Hour 11, woke up at 7:30 am, Felt like a million bucks, some light cramping but I slept with the heating pad on me. Went to the bathroom, took 800mg of ibuprofen as a precaution and laid back down. Was lethargic but just watched some tv in bed and hydrated.
Hour 13, 9:30 am, by this time I was up and moving, I could feel blood pouring out of me but the pad was a god send. I ate light food, just crepes and some apple sauce. No nausea thankfully, light cramping.
12pm, about 16 hours later, felt much better. Was still bleeding a bit, but the maxi pad and/or period underwear have been helpful. Lounged around in zero pain.
17-21 hrs later, I ran errands between 1-5pm and just could noticeably feel a large amount of blood pouring out of me when moving.
24 hrs later, 8:30pm, went for a walk around our neighborhood with my S/O and our dogs. No pain at all. I began my birth control again at this time and took that pill.
36 hr, bleeding is lighter, more intermittent but still a heavier flow. Some cramping. Went to work.
48 hr, bleeding like a normal but heavier side of period. Birth control again.
I will say, the only clot I saw was the size of a grain of rice. There was too much blood to make anything out. It was a quick process. Definitely uncomfortable, but nothing unmanageable. The nausea was the worst part for me and it had a very quick onset and was over with quickly. I felt relief after vomiting. Realistically I slept for most of it and the “worst” was brief.
My takeaways from this was really to have someone there if you can. I really don’t like having people around me when in pain or uncomfortable, but it was a god send.
Also, as someone who never uses pads, it was very difficult for me to do so. I found that the disposable period underwear was really helpful. Basically is the same concept as a diaper but shhhh. It was amazing. The larger, more absorbent maxi pads are good too.
Having pain reliever, an anti nausea and a heating pad on hand was also great.
And having snacks that I knew were safe for me to throw up if it happened, which it doesn’t happen for everyone, was super helpful too. Usually I keep some sugary stuff like a Gatorade or apple sauce to keep my blood sugar up but that’s just from my own experience. I believe it’s a side effect from one of the 2 medications and it’s something I already deal with so it was just nice to have a variety on hand in case.
Anyways. That’s the novel. My medical abortion was actually a much more pleasant experience than I had imagined.
I hope this helps in some way! Best of luck with your choices. If you have any questions just let me know, I’d be happy to answer to the best of my ability.

2024.05.21 06:55 Ok-Pianist-9729 Am I the A Hole for needing a ride to the ER

(F20) I will try my best to keep this as short and to the point. My mom got sick a couple of weeks ago and I got sick starting 3 days ago after visiting a relatives house.
I have been struggling to breathe, gasping for air, walking even 2 steps winds me and I have to recover, coughing up mucus, throwing up, nausea, not eating, chest pain, back pain, cough, diarrhea, throat pain, headache, stomach pain, everything but a fever (as far as I'm aware.
