2024.05.14 15:51 sweetheart067 Not hearing back from jobs I want as a nurse?

Hello all,
I have 2 1/2 years experience as a nurse in adult oncology. 7 months NICU, where I ended up going back to oncology because of the toxic work environment. I’m a Newish nurse.
I really would love to expand my knowledge as a nurse and work in a nearby children’s hospital. I applied to multiple positions, but I would love to work in either their PICU, NICU, or cardiac ICU departments. I really really want critical care experience! I also regret leaving the NICU I was in.
I applied for the positions available and have not heard anything back. All it says under my application is “selected for next step in recruiting process”!
The only one I was able to thankfully interview for was a pediatric cardiac ICU position that I interviewed 2 MONTHS ago for.
I haven’t heard anything at all so I assume I didn’t get the job tbh. I know the name of one of the managers but I don’t have an email to follow up with and worry it’s creepy to email.
I do know and have heard that this hospital takes a long time to reach out to their applicants as there are MANY that apply…
but it sucks and i worry i am not even being given a chance for the other positions I applied for.
Can anyone offer advice to me?
I have two years of experience as a nurse which I know is little, but it sucks I can’t get into the places that interest me.

2024.05.14 15:50 AzurLaneShikikan17 I’m struggling with my job and life

Hello all, I am new to this subreddit and was wondering if I could get some advice. So, I am currently working for a college that is a little over an hour away from where I live and I am dreading it, even though I just started in February of this year. I was content at first until work started to come my way and things have gotten worse for me. I am trying to figure out my job (which is a brand new position) and no one wants to help me. My supervisor has no idea what I should be doing. When I ask a question to my boss or some colleagues, I either get my head bitten off or I get unhelpful responses. And worse of all, there’s no support system in place for me to do my job. It’s been like this for a while and now I feel lost and began to dissociate from work. I don’t want to quit since it pays well and I don’t want to be out of a job without something lined up. But I don’t want to keep living like this.
I think my mental health has taken a big hit from this job too, especially since I feel like I will fail at my job every time I go to work. I’m beginning to question my bachelors degrees (2 of them; double major in Finance and Sport Management). Like, are they really worth it? Or is it just a piece of paper? Even with 2 degrees, I have struggled to find a permanent position anywhere. I’m also beginning to question life itself.
Can I ask for some advice?

2024.05.14 15:49 KamikazeOvaCommas Made the wrong career move.Looking to get back into data analytics?

Back in 2021 I ended up landing a graduate data analytics role as part of a graduate scheme at one of the Big 4 accounting firms.
It was a good role for me at the time, working on large projects, learning SQL, PowerBI, some python and at the same time gaining some consulting skills. However one of the main things I did not like during my role as a data analyst, was the fact that a lot of my work was quite repetitive in terms of the tasks that I would be carrying out on a day-day basis, with rather low pay progression whilst at the company and as a result started looking into higher paying roles.
After 11 months in my role as a data analyst I decided upon a career within tech sales. There was an opportunity for me to make 50-100% more than what I was making with my first role and I took it. This is where things went slightly left.
I'll try keep this part short. After sometime working in sales it didn't work out as planned for me. My first company was really bad, no proper sales training and lack of direction across the board. After 8 months into the role the company decided to have there first round of layoffs and as a result the entire team (my sales team) was laid off. I spent some time travelling and found another sales role some time afterward. Unfortunately this company was only slightly better. Lack of product market fit, bad management, lack of support for the UK team. After 7 months of being there, I was put on a PIP and accepted that I would be leaving the role.
That brings me to today. Looking back I regret my decision to leave. I enjoyed my time at sales but after the unfortunate events and the nature of the work (cold calling, lots of ups and downs) it just wasn't for me.
I have decided that I want to build a career within data analytics and continue from where I left.
I would appreciate it if anyone has gone through a similar scenario or career switched into data analytics.
What is the best way to get back into analytics with my current experience? Any tips in general or regarding interview processes as they will probably vary from my previous role?
I've been beating my self up about my decision so please take it easy lol.

My current job is being petty and lots of unorganized bs. Managers do not live in state and what not. I applied to an urgent care for 3/12s. They got back to me for a virtual interview within the hour. Which to me is a red flag but 3/12s which is leagues better than 5/9s. Anyone that worked in urgent care give me the run down?

2024.05.14 15:46 Darrenarvin123 Applying for a credit card with multiple income streams?

Hi all, need some advice and clarification.
My mum is currently a part time tuition teacher with a monthly salary of RM1.5k. This income is paid directly from the tuition center with contributions to EPF and sosco.
Besides this 1.5k, my mum is getting an additional RM480 a month for giving extra one to one tuition to one of the students. Since it's being done in the center, the owner takes RM80 from my mum as like a rental fee for the A/C etc. The additional RM480 is paid in cash from the student's mother to my mum.
So only the original RM1.5k gets shown in her payslip. Besides this two incomes, every Saturday my mum teaches a special English class in another center where she is paid RM75 per class. The owner of this center will transfer the pay to my mum every month.
So my question is it possible for my mum to apply for a credit card when she only meets the min income requirement (RM2k) when you add in all 3 sources and if so how would she go about doing it?

2024.05.14 15:45 Batetrick_Patman Feeling stuck and lost in this job search. Time for a stopgap job? But what? Trauma from previous jobs.

I've been unemployed for close to a year primarily living off unemployment and then doordash to survive. In this time I've completed a web development bootcamp but the market SUCKS and I haven't been able to land a job. I've had about 5 interviews including one that made it to the final round just no offer. 3 that made it to 2nd round and 1 that I had 2nd round scheduled but they cancelled the job. I was previously working a helpdesk job from hell that was really a call center gig providing support to retail stores. But that job was so terrible that I was puking and crying daily before clocking in. I don't have a degree and while I'd like to go back to school I have ADHD and doubt I could juggle a full time job and school at the same time (I can barely handle taking care of an apartment and work full time). Besides I'd be 40 by then anyway. I'm not really sure what to do at this point and I know I need a job but I can't go back to anything phone related for mental health. I also have chronic pain and can't handle body fluids so not sure about physical jobs or healthcare.

2024.05.14 15:42 BenTheWis Amtrak Group Sales Department - Big Reservation

Hello!
I traveled with a group of about 41 people last year.
We managed to get car exclusivity on the Lake Shore Limited for Feb 2nd - Feb 4th, and I believe the current cars sit 58 people. Because it was a such a large group, many of whom had never ridden the train before, it was much easier to keep track of everyone in their own car.
We got a really good deal. The booking was made in August of last year.
We want to make this trip a yearly occurrence.
However, the most recent quote we got was $5,000 more expensive than last year's.
My question is, can I talk to anyone about this? I booked several months earlier this year, I thought it would be less expensive, not more.
We had a bus trip for years, but last year we realized (after we got a quote from Amtrak) that we could actually book a train for the group instead.
If we can't get something similarly priced to last year, we'll just go back to being a bus trip, but I'd really love to have us all take the train again.
Can you help me?
Are there travel discounts for groups of 25 or more, or something like that?
Thank you!

2024.05.14 15:40 Nervous_Toe_1080 Can an employer sack my friend for this reason?

So 4 months ago I got an interview for a job and during the interview I was cheeky and landed my friend an apprenticeship with the company. When I was speaking to the manager I was told that I’d be my friends “mentor”.
Now I’m looking at other jobs due to changes in circumstances however I can’t bring my friend as they’re not wanting an apprentice so I’m wondering if the current company could turn round and just let my friend go due to me leaving? Or does he have all rights to stay?
Thank you

2024.05.14 15:39 stillhotterthanyou I love how of all LGBT people in America, Joe Biden chose to interview Dylan Mulvaney.

I love how of all LGBT people in America, Joe Biden chose to interview Dylan Mulvaney.
I made a comment on a post on this subreddit about this and a post on conservative about this but I feel like I need to make my own post about it.
So I am not a transphobe. I have major respect for actual trans people like Blaire White and Caitlyn Jenner who actually go through the long process of transitioning and working on their transition. I will call you whatever gender you want to be called for the most part (though I refuse to call someone animal pronouns or neo pronouns). However, I am against many of the actions that trans people are doing as of the last 4 years. One of the things is people like Dylan Mulvaney who every lgbtqirs person I know holds to be an idol. All I think of Dylan is that Dylan is a grown man who wants to be not a woman, but a little girl. Dylan is a complete mockery to both women, actual transgender people and honestly LGB people too. So long as the LGB is attached with the TQRISWTFHDKDIH+, we LGB all suffer from creepy, narcissistics like Dylan Mulvaney who want us to normalize seeing penises in women’s spaces to be normal.
If LGBT people saw Dylan Mulvaney being interviewed by Joe Biden and thought “oh, this is a win.” Then they are extremely incorrect. It shows that Joe Biden still thinks that LGBT Americans are still so stupid that he couldn’t take the time to interview an actually intelligent LGBT person. Like he could have interviewed Richard Grenell, Peter Thiel, Brad Pulombo, Rob Smith, Arielle Scarcella or Blaire White. Someone who could actually discuss tough questions about things that are actively harming the LGBT community, especially the LGB which he has largely ignored and done hardly anything for. I know he probably wanted someone that was a democrat which is fine, that being said, there are way more amazing intelligent LGBT democrats he could have interviewed yet he chose this delusional man who wants to identify as a little girl.
The whole interview Biden looked so confused when Dylan talked and Dylan looked so confused when Biden talked, it was ridiculous. It was like when he interviewed Cardi B in 2020 or when Hillary Clinton went on the Breakfast Club and said she had hot sauce in her bag.
I would have loved if Dylan said, “Joe Biden, can you name one of my lyrics?” He probably couldn’t do it. Cause he is pandering and is saying, LGBT people like this person, so if I get this mentally unwell man who is pretending to be a little girl (that’s what Dylan is), every gay lesbian bisexual and trans person will vote for me.
Now I am not trans, but if I was, I’d be incredibly insulted that Joe Biden choosed this person to represent my people.
Never have I want the TQ to be separated from the LGB than when watching this joke of an interview.

2024.05.14 15:38 paradoxgavel My Dad (65M) and I (25F) can't take care of my Mom (55F) anymore, and I'm scared.

(If any of this sounds familiar, I made a post about it when it first happened, but there's been developments. Also, I apologize for this being so long, this whole situation is hard to explain without rambling.) So, about eight years ago, when I was in high school, my Mom had a bad case of appendicitis. And after she got out of the hospital for it, she just kinda... fell apart. I didn't know it at the time, but my Mom had grown up in a VERY abusive home when she was little and had serious struggles with anxiety, depression, OCD, and bipolar disorder. And after she got home from the hospital, she just kinda caved in mentally and physically. The motor functions in her arms and legs suddenly, rapidly diminished, her eyesight got really bad, and she'd have frequent bladder accidents. My dad wound up taking her to the inpatient psychiatric ward where she stayed for a little while. Things were extremely difficult when she got home - my dad and I would have to clean up after her, help her walk around, help her on and off the toilet, things like that.
It took time, but my mom eventually got better. Her eyesight and motor skills recovered and she seemed happy and okay again. When she would get really anxious, her walking would get shaky, but that's about it. Things were good for a number of years. I was able to move out to go to college, get my degree, and my dad was able to get into a really good career. My mom stayed home most of the time, though, cooking and cleaning and watching TV and going on Facebook. Early on in all this, she used to go out to the VFW and things like that with my dad every night, until, eventually, she stopped doing that too. She eventually got to the point where she didn't like going out in public at all anymore.
My dad has been having a very hard time adjusting to all this. He misses going out with her, being able to do things with her. He always says he misses the woman he married. And I know he feels angry about all this; about feeling like his wife just disappeared one day.
After college, I moved back in with my parents (I'm kinda drowning in student debt to the point that getting my own place is out of the question until I get a better paying job. Currently working as a cashier to pay the bills until I get the time to get my driver's license so I can get jobs outside the tiny little rural town I live in.) and things had been stable for a couple years, just as they had been.
Then, about two weeks or so ago, my dad had to leave town for a week on a mandatory trip for work. My mom had been really anxious about him going - to the point that her walking had been getting shaky again. He took her to the doctor, who prescribed her a new anti-depressant, and, soon, my dad was off on his trip. The very first day of this trip, Monday, I was home alone with my Mom, and things seemed fine and calm and normal - she seemed happy, even - and she'd been walking around just fine. And then she goes to the bathroom, and she can't get off the toilet, and I'm not strong enough to help her off. She says her legs "just went dead". I had to call 911, and some firefighters came to lift her off the toilet. I had hoped that that was just a one-off occurrence, but... nope. Later on that night, it happened again. That time, I called my dad to ask him what to do, and he had me put him on the phone with her, and he just absolutely lost his temper on her. He said some really horrible things that he didn't mean. He was scared, I think, and didn't know how to handle that besides being angry. And he just started apologizing to me, saying he was sorry that this was all falling on me, and that it wasn't fair to me.
The week passed by with my aunts coming over to help me care for my mom while I had to go to work, and eventually, my dad made it back from his trip. And things have been really, really bad. For all three of us. My mom's doctor took her off the new anti-depressant just in case part of this had been a bad reaction to it, and placed her on some vitamin supplements instead. But my mom is basically immobile now. I got a safety rail for around the toilet that she'd been able to use successfully to get on and off the toilet until that stopped working as well. She's basically immobile now, needs my dad's help to get her to the bathroom and back and doesn't get up from her chair at all besides that, and she keeps having bladder accidents. She's miserable right now, and so are my dad and I. We both have jobs to go to as well, so we've kinda been taking turns looking after her while either of us are home. We can't keep going like this. My dad's very strong, but... he's 65 all the same - he can't be lifting a grown woman on and off the toilet all day. And I'm not strong enough to help her around at all - I'm just a scrawny 120 lbs thing.
I have severe anxiety myself, and have been struggling with some post-traumatic stress after all the panic and fear from when this started on Monday. I've been making appointments with a therapist to try and look after myself, and I've been talking with friends and getting back into my hobbies and things that make me happy - trying to keep my head above water. It's been helping a lot for the most part, but... you can only do so much of that when the situation is this dire, y'know? And my dad has been really, really struggling. He's been going out every night to hang out with his friends and all that good stuff too, but... I hate seeing him this sad and stressed and angry.
So... my mom's got a doctor's appointment today. My dad's gonna be the one taking her there. He says he's going to insist on the doctor setting things up so my mom can either be moved to an inpatient physical therapy location, or to an assisted living center.
I know that that'll be good for her, and for us. None of us can keep living like this. It's just... hard. Not to feel scared and guilty about this. Feeling worried about my mom being sad and scared and lonely, having to move out of home, and hoping she'll be well taken care of. Feeling guilty for being relieved at the idea of being free of her and getting my life back. Feeling worried about my dad and how he's doing through all this. The three of us love each other so much - always have, always will, but... that's not really enough anymore, y'know? We've done all we can at this point. We're all spent.
I don't know if I just needed to vent, or just needed advice or encouragement, I just. I wish things could just be okay again. I just want my mom back. And I want to know that she's going to be okay - that we can find some new normal. I just... She's going to be okay, right? And so are we?

2024.05.14 15:37 DisastrousResult101 Got REJECTED from my 80TH job on my BIRTHDAY and feel like a FAILURE

Today's my birthday (22) and I recieved another rejection email. That makes it number 80.
I have a list of jobs I've applied to and update it when I get rejected or progress to the next stage. I thought I was around 40-50 rejections, but I decided to count them up and turns out I'm at 80. What great news to get on your birthday!
On top of that, I'm no longer in the running for any jobs.
TBH, I shouldn't have even opened the email today. I've been job searching for months after graduating last year. I was meant to take the day away from my job search to chill, relax and regroup (take time to enjoy today). Well not anymore.
After seeing that rejection email - which came after 1 of the only 2 phone interviews I've had and seeing I've now been rejected from 80 jobs made me very upset and feel useless.
I know I shouldn't take it personally, but with today being my birthday and another year older, with no job, no work experience and people just telling me constantly "it'll happen soon" I just feel pathetic. I can't get a job anywhere - I've applied to a range of places including grad schemes, big, medium and small companies, retail (high and low end), restaurants, museums, remote and more.
I've only had 2 phone interviews and been rejected both times. Before the latter one, I asked for advice. I practiced so much, gave good answers, asked good questions and made the interviewer laugh twice - but still I got rejected. From the advice I got and videos I watched, a lot of people said it's easy to pass a phone interview and you should really pass all the ones you have (if you've done some research and have some passion and know why you want the job) - that just makes me feel even more useless.
I sat on my bed for 30 mins doing nothing, just sat there. I then went for a shower to try and get on with my day, but I cried in there and now I feel nothing. I don't even care that it's my b-day anymore.
I'm a failure. I'm nowhere near where I wanted to be at this stage of my life. I even had a baseline for where I wanted to be and I'm far below that. I've seen friends and people I know my age getting jobs and internships so easily. Even in my own family. My cousin had 2 interhsips during uni, dud a placement year, got an internship after graduating and then he took time out to relax and then said "he was bored" at the start of the year and said he'll start applying for jobs - 3 weeks later he had a full-time, high paying job and recently got the month off to go traveling. My other cousin is off to uni later this year (most likely Cambridge), she always gets top grades and had 2 mentors that work at big companies and are high up, well respected and high earners (not sure how she got them). I know already she will get multiple internships while at uni and easily find a high-paying job straight out of uni, (worst case, one of her mentors will give her a job) - even worse is that she wants to go into the same industry as me, she's 3 years behind but 3 years ahead of me at the same time and will probably go way further than me.
I'm the failure of my family, the failure of my friend group, I used to have high hopes for myself, but can't get in anywhere. I've let my parents down big time.
I'm not sure what I want from this post, it's more of a rant.

2024.05.14 15:37 ExCadet87 Displaced lawyers late in career?

I'm 56 years old, and have been litigating for 28 years. Small firm, large firm, government, solo, and most recently in-house insurance defense.
Late last fall my position was eliminated as part of a nationwide "right sizing", and I have been looking ever since. It is proving to be a difficult slog. I have highly-developed skills but no book of business, which isn't a particularly strong position for someone my age l.
I'm in a mid-sized market, and have been looking for a way to jump to the in-house counsel role. Opportunities are few and far between, though.
I've looked at other in-house insurance defense positions, jobs I could do from day one with little to no training Out of five such applications, I haven't received so much as a screening phone call. That's a bit surprising and disappointing. I guess age may be an issue, but who knows.
I also interviewed with a couple plaintiff's firms, but no dice. I also have walked away from a couple potential opportunities because they weren't quite right/low pay.
So my question is, who else has been in this situation, and how did you keep from going crazy?

2024.05.14 15:35 anesthesiabyfrankie Understanding the Triple Point: A Guide to Breast Reduction/Lift Recovery

The Triple Point Explained

The Triple Point is a phenomenon that can occur during breast lift, breast reduction, or implant removal with a lift. It refers to areas where incisions meet, compromising blood flow and leading to potential healing challenges.

Understanding the Blood Supply Challenge

During breast surgery, incisions disrupt natural blood flow patterns to the breast. The convergence of incisions at the Triple Point compromises blood supply, increasing the risk of minor wounds in about 20% of patients.

Navigating the Healing Process

If you experience a wound at the Triple Point during recovery, remain calm. This is common and manageable. Allow the area to heal naturally, typically within six weeks, under your surgeon's guidance. Follow their instructions diligently to promote healing.

Addressing Concerns and Maintaining Perspective

Complications like the Triple Point are natural consequences of surgery and don't indicate errors. Your surgeon is there to address any concerns or questions you may have. Trust in their expertise and commitment to your well-being.

Embracing the Journey

Breast surgery is a transformative experience that encompasses challenges and triumphs. By understanding and embracing the entire journey, you can approach recovery with confidence and appreciation for the care and expertise involved.
Remember, the journey to your desired outcome involves cooperation between you and your surgeon. Stay informed, trust the process, and soon you'll enjoy the results you've been dreaming of.

2024.05.14 15:34 rajia2012 DEA application

I am applying for a DEA number for the first time. What is going on with these application questions?
I don't understand why they would say "not less than 8 hours" when they can say "more than 8 hours"
"during the 5-year period immediately preceding the date on which you first submitted a registration or renewal and the curriculum included not less than 8 hours of training?" = within the last 5 years of applying and received more than 8 hours of training
This is how I would answer, but I may be wrong
  1. No, I don't have any additional training, haven't passed the NP exam yet.
  2. Yes, I just graduated.
  3. No. i have no additional training besides my MSN degree.
I'm just annoyed by the wording of this application. why make it so confusing?
  1. Do you hold a board certification in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine from one of the following associations; American Board of Medical Specialties, American Board of Addiction Medicine, American Osteopathic Association? Yes No
  2. Have you graduated, in good standing, from an accredited school of allopathic medicine, osteopathic medicine, dental surgery, dental medicine, physician assistant, or advanced practice nursing in the United States during the 5-year period immediately preceding the date on which you first submitted a registration or renewal and the curriculum included not less than 8 hours of training?***
***Treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders, including the appropriate clinical use of all drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of opioid use disorder or The safe pharmacological management of dental pain and screening, brief intervention, and referral for appropriate treatment of patients with or at risk of developing opioid and other substance use disorders. Yes No
  1. Have you completed not less than 8 hours of training with one or more of the following from the approved training requirements?***
***the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, the American Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Physician Associates, or any other organization approved or accredited by the Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use or the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

2024.05.14 15:33 Puzzled-Owl9629 Unconventional Approach to Starting Bar Prep with Themis - Looking for Thoughts

Hi everyone! I'm about to dive into my bar prep (MBE + FL) using Themis and I'm planning an unconventional start.
Instead of jumping straight into the material, I’m dedicating the first three days to understanding the structure of the course and organizing my materials. I believe this upfront investment in organization can streamline my study process later on.
To make things manageable, I spent an hour removing the course materials - lectures, outlines practice questions - and placed them in a binder with tabs reflecting the structure. This way, I can quickly access specific sections as needed. I’m also setting up an “active” binder where I can gather notes for the day without having to pull out everything.
I think this approach will help me stay organized and reduce the overwhelming feeling of handling vast amounts of material. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried something similar, or do you have other organization strategies that worked well for you during bar prep? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.14 15:31 DeanCastiel_ TJO questions. How to negotiate step?

I just received a tjo for a GS 11 Step 03 position. I have not accepted it yet but plan to.
Is it possible to negotiate your starting step? If so, who would I do that with?
In the interview the hiring manager stated that pastor cost would be covered by the base. How does that work?
