2024.05.15 14:21 Truco_Services Is it possible for a large limb to break off of a healthy tree without causing damage? If so, how can this be prevented?

Yes, it is possible for a large limb to break off a healthy tree without causing damage, particularly if it falls in an open area where there are no structures, vehicles, or people nearby. However, to minimize the risk of such incidents and ensure the safety of people and property around healthy trees, several preventive measures can be taken:
Factors Leading to Limb Breakage
Even healthy trees can lose limbs due to various factors:
Preventive Measures
  1. Regular Inspections:Conduct periodic inspections of your trees to identify and address potential problems early.Look for cracks, splits, or other signs of stress in branches.
  2. Proper Pruning:Hire a certified arborist to prune trees correctly. Proper pruning helps maintain the tree’s structure and removes potentially hazardous limbs.Remove dead or weak branches that might not withstand strong winds or heavy loads.
  3. Cabling and Bracing:For large, heavy limbs or those with poor attachment angles, cabling and bracing can provide additional support. This technique involves installing flexible steel cables or rigid rods to redistribute structural stress.
  4. Tree Health Maintenance:Ensure trees are healthy by watering during dry periods, mulching to retain soil moisture, and fertilizing as needed.Prevent diseases and pests by monitoring tree health and treating any issues promptly.
  5. Species Selection:Plant trees appropriate for your area and the specific site conditions. Some species are more resistant to breakage; choosing such species can reduce the risk of limb loss.
  6. Avoid Mechanical Damage:Protect trees from mechanical damage caused by lawnmowers, vehicles, or construction activities.Install protective barriers if necessary to prevent physical impact.
  7. Monitoring Weather Conditions:During extreme weather conditions, such as heavy winds or ice storms, take precautions by avoiding parking vehicles or placing valuables near large trees.
Responding to Limb Breakage
If a large limb does break:
By taking these preventive measures, you can significantly reduce the likelihood of large limbs breaking off healthy trees and causing damage. Regular maintenance and professional assessments are key to maintaining tree health and safety.

2024.05.15 10:04 okigotthis_ AITAH For struggling with my boyfriends usage of marijuana?

Hi first I (23F) wanna clarify that I have no issue with marijuana, either using it for medicinal or just for fun. However specifically when my (24M) boyfriend uses it I get a bit uncomfortable.
We started dating about 3 years ago. In the beginning he told me he used to smoke back in high school for a little but stopped when he graduated. About a year into our relationship he started back up again because an old school friend of his uses it. I was fine with him smoking it, he seemed happy and hey life is stressful. He even allowed me to do a little too, I liked the sensation but wasn’t the biggest fan of the smoke feeling in my lungs.
Anyways over the next couple of months I started noticing a few things about him that started to change. One thing I noticed was that he would get really hyper focused on things like video games or spending time with his friends. I talked with him several times about how I wished he could balance his time with his friends and with me. I guess I kinda felt like I wasn’t on the same level of priority to him. He said he has always struggled with balancing people but when he smokes I feel it is amplified. He always apologized and say he would try his best but would always fall back to the same habits.
This leads to another thing I sort of noticed but he seemed to forget things easily. I can’t exactly pinpoint what he would forget as it was a few years ago. I just remembered that it would be stuff like when I would talk about my day or he wouldn’t take care of his basic needs. He also spaced out a lot, when I would talk to him I’d either ask if he was listening or he would ask me to repeat what I said.
Lastly I feel his emotional output was disrupted. He seemed like he was not there 100% of the time emotionally. He even talked with a monotone voice and I would always ask what’s wrong, but he would say he was good. His reactions were different, his facial expressions were blank, he felt like a shell of the man I fell in love with.
A few months go by and he quits doing marijuana because he greened out, which I know from experience is very scary. In just a few weeks he was back to being “normal” and hasn’t touched weed until just recently.
I am worried that he will go back to being like that. I am scared that I won’t be able to handle it this time. We both have had several talks about it but I don’t feel too good I guess. He used to get high all the time, never coming down from it which led him to having a high tolerance. He told me that this time he will cut back and not use it like he used to.
I love my boyfriend, he makes me so happy and I don’t want to end things just because of this. I feel guilty for even thinking about possibly ending things between us if things don’t pan out well. I feel selfish that I struggle with something he enjoys. Throughout our relationship I have struggled with having an anxious attachment style, but even he says that I have gotten much better. Maybe this time I will be able to handle this situation better? I know that when using cannabis it can cause those symptoms that I have stated up above. I can’t really change or do anything that can change his habits only he can. I fell in love with the non-weed side of my boyfriend I guess..am I wrong to struggle with loving all of him? I know love is learning, and I wanna learn to love him fully.
I want to say I am not trying to demonize marijuana. I know it affects each and everyone of us differently. Please I kindly ask you in the comments to not talk about your stance on the drug. Whether you think it should be only for recreational purposes or whatever I did not write this post to hear that. I know this subject is kinda political but I wish for only advice and to know if I am the asshole for struggling with my boyfriends usage of marijuana. Thank you for your time, sorry for the long post.

2024.05.15 05:57 National-World-2737 Lump on neck swells up and down

23F, occasional marijuana user, no known health issues, takes 50 mg spironolactone for off label tx of acne
So for the last several months to a year or two I have had an area on my neck that swells and goes down periodically. It is located slightly right to the midline of my neck just in the area where my chin meets my neck, maybe near the hyoid bone. I would consider this between submental and submandibular region. When the area swells I can feel my neck quite swollen in this area and that side feels slightly uncomfortable when I swallow on that side. My tonsils are still present but not visually enlarged. The lump is not always present and I cannot seem to connect a trend with it. It comes and goes. It is a hard immovable lump that is not seen visually but can be felt. I had it looked at once last fall when it swelled up by an NP at urgent care. The diagnosis was a swollen parotid gland, however this area is no where near the parotid. I had an ultrasound as well but the results were normal. The lump has returned and I just feel very uneasy about it and have tried researching other possibilities it could be but am stumped. I realize no one can give me a diagnosis, but does anyone have ideas I can look into and perhaps discuss with my doctor? Thank you

2024.05.15 05:18 Diligent-Interest-32 Broken mom

This is going to be a long post and bare with me as I am falling apart as I'm writing it. Let me preface this with, she is a good kid, great student and she's never really done anything to get in trouble with me before. I caught my 17 year old with Marijuana in her room the other night. When I confronted her, she was upset but not very apologetic. I didn't yell or scream. I spoke civil and explained to her how I feel about it, especially that she was doing it alone in her room. She had a severe episode of anxiety and depression a few years ago in which she went to therapy for a long time for. I was a teen once and smoked plenty of weed, but it was always in a fun environment with friends. Her reaction was kind of non-chalant. A few hours later she went to work and I was home and honestly upset that she didn't apologize, or say 'mom, I fucked up" while she was at work I texted her that I was no longer paying for something that she wanted to do. Her reaction via text was upsetting. When my husband came home and we sat at the table to talk, she started going off on him. Then were both going at it pretty badly. Then it got physical. She was trying to hit him and he was trying to restrain her. He was not hitting her, but he was really angry. I couldn't stop them. She then threatened to kill herself and his reaction was "go ahead, do it" Then she went into the kitchen to grab a knife and he physically restrained her and held her down on the floor. I had to call 911. The police came to my house. I ended up going to the hospital with her and then she was discharged. Since then I have had multiple conversations with her and my husband trying to get them to speak to each other. Not happening I've had long, deep conversations with her, where she was crying and remorseful for what happened. Shes admitted to being really stressed the last few months. She hates him and thinks it's all his fault, which it isn't but he does have some anger issues. And he hates her, and me, for not punishing her more and he thinks because I have been talking to her that I am choosing her and that I think he was in the wrong. (Which I don't) I'm in the middle. I've been sick for days. I don't want to lose my daughter. She's my entire life. She has a great future ahead of her and I don't want him to ruin it because she fucked up badly once. My whole family is broken right now. I want to leave him but I'm so lost I don't know what to do.

2024.05.15 03:41 Peters4136 Did I kill these PJM by over pruning?

I bought the house last year and multiple arborists told me it would be $1k to prune this PJM. But most told me it was pretty far gone from years of hedge trimming and bad pruning. I don’t have many great before pictures of them but here is one from above. They were erribly overgrown, lots of sooty mold and other fungus in there last season. I tried to prune last year but I couldn’t break through the canopy without making major holes last fall. But then this season it grew even more. In addition to the fungus it was getting way too big and you can tell it had overgrown its plot. There were branches that had grown outward and even struck up roots down front.
This week, I decided to prune all the way back and reclaim like 3 feet of yard back from where these had grown outward. Question is, will these recover? Did I go way too far?

2024.05.15 03:41 ddgr815 Detroit killed the sedan. We may all live to regret it

Last week, General Motors announced that it would end production of the Chevrolet Malibu, which the company first introduced in 1964. Although not exactly a head turner (the Malibu was “so uncool, it was cool,” declared the New York Times), the sedan has become an American fixture, even an icon, appearing in classic films like Say Anything and Pulp Fiction. Over the past 60 years, GM produced some 10 million of them.
With a price starting at a (relatively) affordable $25,100, Malibu sales exceeded 130,000 vehicles last year, a 13% annual increase and enough to rank as the #3 Chevy model, behind only the Silverado and the Equinox. Still, that wasn’t enough to keep the car off GM’s chopping block. The company says that the last Malibu will roll out of its Kansas City, KS, factory this November; the plant will then be retooled to produce the new Chevy Bolt, an electric crossover SUV.
With the Malibu’s demise, GM will no longer sell any sedans in the U.S. In that regard, it will have plenty of company. Ford stopped producing sedans for the U.S. market in 2018. And it was Sergio Marchionne, the former head of Stellantis, who triggered the headlong retreat in 2016 when he declared that Dodge and Chrysler would stop making sedans. (Tesla, meanwhile, offers two sedans: the Model 3 and Model S.)
As recently as 2009, U.S. passenger cars (including sedans and a plunging number of station wagons) outsold light trucks (SUVs, pickups, and minivans), but today they’re less then 20% of new car purchases. The death of the Malibu is confirmation, if anyone still needs it, that the Big Three are done building sedans. That decision is bad news for road users, the environment, and budget-conscious consumers—and it may ultimately come around to bite Detroit.
When asked, automakers are quick to blame the sedan’s decline on shifting consumer preferences. Americans simply want bigger cars, the story goes, and there’s some truth to it. Compared to sedans, many SUV and pickup models provide extra cargo space and give the driver more visibility on the highway. In a crash, those inside a heavier car have a better chance of escaping without injury—although the same can’t be said for pedestrians or those in other vehicles. (That discrepancy inspired a headline in The Onion: “Conscientious SUV Shopper Just Wants Something That Will Kill Family In Other Car In Case Of Accident.”)
This narrative of the market’s dispassionate invisible hand tossing the sedan aside holds intuitive appeal, but it leaves gaping holes. For one thing, federal policy has, in many ways, ]distorted the car market to favor larger vehicles](https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/24139147/suvs-trucks-popularity-federal-policy-pollution). Fuel economy regulations, for instance, are more lenient for SUVs and pickups than they are for smaller cars, nudging automakers to produce more of the former and fewer of the latter. Another egregious example: Small business owners such as real estate agents can save thousands of dollars by writing off the cost of their vehicle—but only if it weighs more than 6,000 pounds, a stipulation that effectively excludes sedans entirely.
Carmakers, for their part, powerfully influence consumer demand through billions of dollars spent on advertising. Because SUVs and pickups are more expensive and profitable than sedans, manufacturers have a clear incentive to tilt buying decisions away from small cars and toward larger ones (which helps explain ad campaigns designed to confer an undeserved green halo on SUVs).
Even those who don’t want a big car may feel pressure to upsize, if only to avoid being at a disadvantage in a crash or when trying to see what lies ahead on the road. Such people find themselves trapped in a prisoner’s dilemma, preferring that everyone had smaller cars, but resigning themselves to buying an SUV or pickup since others already have them.
For all these reasons, modest-size sedans like the Malibu are disappearing from American streets, supplanted by SUVs and pickups that seem to grow bulkier with every model refresh. (The Chevy Bolts produced at GM’s Kansas plant will be bigger than the previous Bolt model, which was retired last year.) This pattern of ongoing vehicle expansion, a trend I call car bloat, is especially advanced in North America, but it’s visible worldwide. In 2022, SUVs alone comprised 46% of global car sales, up from 20% a decade earlier.
From a societal perspective, the decline of the sedan is a disaster. Consider road safety, an area where the U.S. underperforms compared to the rest of the rich world, especially for pedestrians and cyclists (deaths for both recently hit 40-year highs). Larger cars have bigger blind spots, convey more force in a collision, and tend to strike a person’s torso rather than their legs. They’re also heavier, with propulsion systems that guzzle more gasoline (or electrons) to move, producing more pollution in the process. Their weight also catalyzes the erosion of tires and roads, spewing microscopic particles that can damage human health as well as aquatic ecosystems.
Despite the myriad problems of car bloat, the federal government has taken no steps to restrain it. In the absence of regulations or taxes, carmakers have ample reason to abandon their sedan models in favor of SUVs and trucks. The higher margins of larger cars is especially precious now, as the Big Three scrabble for money to invest in electrification and autonomous technology, as well as to pay for the rising costs of wages and benefits that they agreed to last fall during negotiations with the United Auto Workers.
Realistically, it would be a Herculean task to pivot back toward selling small cars, even if American automakers wanted to. Although adept at selling high-priced, feature-laden SUVs and trucks, they’re far less experienced at the low-margin, high volume business of producing cheaper small cars. That is one reason (though hardly the only one) that China’s booming market for EVs, including many modest-size and affordable models, is sowing fear throughout Detroit—and in Washington, too.
Where does the shift from sedans toward SUVs and trucks leave everyday Americans? With a strained wallet, for one thing. With its MSRP starting at $25,100 the Malibu has been one of the most affordable U.S.-produced cars, costing barely half as much as the average new vehicle, which exceeded $47,000 in February (the Malibu is also at least a few thousand dollars cheaper than the Bolt that will replace it at the Kansas factory).
Especially when factoring in higher interest rates and spiking insurance premiums, cars are becoming a financial strain for many Americans. According to the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the average annual, inflation-adjusted cost of owning a vehicle and driving it 15,000 miles hit $12,182 in 2023, an increase of over 30% in just six years.
Over time, the elimination of sedans leaves the Big Three vulnerable if consumer preferences shift away from enormity. “Legacy car companies haven’t done a great job of thinking long term,” said Alex Roy, a cohost of the Autonocast podcast. “Gutting lineups is probably good for manufacturing efficiency, but not having one vehicle in a given product segment is short-sighted.”
Due to sprawled development patterns and woefully underfunded transit, many American families will still want a car even as they become more expensive. But, as I argued previously in Fast Company, a surge in vehicle prices could compel some households to swap a second or third car for a minicar or e-cargo bike that offers limited range, but costs only a fraction as much. Already, golf carts are popping up in places far removed from the retirement and beach communities where they have been a mainstay: In New Orleans, they’ve become so popular that the city is adopting new ordinances.
With the Malibu’s death, is clearer than ever that Detroit has abandoned the affordable sedan. They may yet live to regret it.

2024.05.15 02:31 RDAWG414 Can you prune new growth?

I am making a hedge with European beech. I pruned late fall and it’s coming in great. Nothing major, maybe 10% at most per tree.
Am I able to prune in the spring on new growth? Some of the new growth coming will need to be cut back and figured I might as well do it now but wasn’t sure if that’s a nono

2024.05.15 00:07 Brookiekathy Adolin Theory

So Adolin, our Highprince Charming.
I've been mulling over a few things, particularly here as some people theorised that he'll become an edgedancer once Maya wakes up. I personally don't belive that this is right, the narrative seems to suggest that there are much bigger things in store for him.
I have three theories for him and I'd love anyone else's takes on this.
We know that Adolin at the moment hasn't been tied to any group be that bridge four, any radiant order, he was all but abandoned by the highprinces for his dueling capability and high society left him once things on the shattered plains started to fall apart.
  1. He will become honors champion. He's not tied to an order, his skill with the sword is unmatched and Maya can't be corrupted. Additionally, he doesn't lose anything when subjected to voidlight. So he's a brilliant counter to any sneaky machinations Odium may pull.
  2. He founds a completely new order himself. His bond with Maya is something unique, interesting and hard earned. If he formed a new order built from bonding with "Dead" spren. He hasn't formed a nahel bond yet, but it would suit the ongoing theme of Adolin doing his own unique thing especially as he has openly stated doesn't know what he's doing. This would also aid the relationship with spren in showing that humans are doing what they can to repent from the errors of the past
  3. Adolin bonds the Nightwatcher Maya is a cultivationspren and he has helped her heal. I could see them looking fondly on this. Ultimately he has helped to regrow Maya through his kindness and goodness. However, he's also shown that hes willing to do the difficult thing and prune away anything detrimental to the greater body of things (Sadeas). I can't think of a better person to Bond tye Nightwatcher.
Anyway these are just some theories I've thrown at a wall! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

2024.05.14 22:48 Worldly_Process6321 Advice for maples

In June of last year, we had some severe storms (Oklahoma) and we lost a big chunk of one of our maple trees. We have 2 autumn blaze maples that were planted about 8 years ago. We had an arborist come out in the fall (took awhile to get someone due to widespread tree damage), and he said that maples can have structure problems and it's important to prune. He said the one that didn't have damage needed pruned around the leader. He also said that the trees were planted and mulched wrong and they needed root excavation. So we had that done, and he said he'd be out again in January or February for the pruning. He never came and when I contacted in March he said he would get to us when he could since he had larger jobs. We've now had tornado damage in the area, so he is helping with that. So my question is, is it ok to have it pruned this time of year? And if we can't get another arborist out, is this something we can do ourselves? Every time a storms blows through, I hold my breath hoping our other tree makes it through.

2024.05.14 21:26 Mr_Commando Is it worth claiming alcohol abuse?

I was an 11B Infantryman in Iraq in 2009. There are things that we did, things I have seen, things that I have experienced that I will never forget. When I came home from Iraq, myself and another Soldier I served with were drinking pretty heavily until late 2011 when we had a falling out.
The VA has me rated 50% for PTSD. My mental health team has me in a severe category for PTSD, but my C&P examiner didn't mark down suicidal ideation, so I'm debating on doing an HLR about that. But TIL I can claim alcohol abuse as a secondary condition to my PTSD. I do have AA-Alcohol Abuse (Active) on my VA Health Summary.
The VA had me talking to a drug/alcohol guy but I cannot find any information on myhealthevet about what he wrote down. My VA psychiatrist recommended I switch to medical marijuana after the medications she was prescribing me weren't working as intended. The medical marijuana helped my cut back drastically. I still drink pretty regularly, though, mostly in the evenings after work. Honestly it very likely is impacting my work performance, but I've gotten pretty good at bullshitting (which isn't great).
Fellow Redditors and Vets, based on this tiny snippet of information, do you think it would be worth it to make this claim if you were in my shoes? If yes, or if you have done so, what kind of evidence should I present for my claim? Is personal/lay statements enough?

2024.05.14 20:33 Chicken_Dinner_10191 Why haven't there been any national Democrats calling for Biden to step aside?

Biden's approval rating is at 38 percent and that is pretty consistent across a number of polls. He had decent approval numbers before the Afghanistan withdraw, but his numbers have never really recovered from the messy way it unfolded in the media. All president approval rating decline over time. None since Truman been re-elected with a sub-40 percent approval rating. The public don’t know or don’t seem to give a fuck or shit about any of his accomplishments either:
Unfortunately for Biden, less than a quarter of Americans have “heard a lot” about his signature legislative achievements: “Congress passing a law that will enable Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices” (23%); “Congress passing infrastructure investments in 2021” (20%); “Congress passing climate and clean-energy investments in 2022” (18%); and “Congress passing a gun safety law in 2022” (14%).
In contrast, far more Americans have heard a lot about Biden “physically stumbling at public events” (47%); making “verbal gaffes” (41%) and “falling asleep at public events” (33%). It’s not particularly surprising, then, that just under a quarter of Americans (24%) think Biden has accomplished “a lot” as president A recent NYT/Sienna poll showed Trump winning 20% of the black vote and coming within 1 point of Biden with voters below 30. I would argue the NYT polls are too optimistic for Biden's chances, because Trump tends to outperform his polls given his ability to attract low propensity Republican voters and pollsters' inability to capture these people. This was one of the top pollsters in the country. The fact that Trump is approaching 50 percent in these polls instead of a 43-41 split with undecideds demands that Democrats change course with their nominating contest immediately.
Before you say that sounds preposterous, you need to think of these responses in the context of a more nuanced expression of frustration and dissatisfaction. Black voters and young voters aren't saying they will vote for Trump. They are saying they will stay their asses home on election day if Joe Biden is the nominee. And I think there is every reason to take their threat seriously:
Trump’s claim that many black voters stayed home, though, is correct. On Sunday, the New York Times published research from a group of political scientists and data analysts that breaks out how voters who supported President Barack Obama in 2012 behaved in 2016. Most of them, unsurprisingly, voted for Hillary Clinton. Nine percent voted for Trump. Seven percent didn’t vote. Those percentages aren’t distributed evenly by race. According to the analysis, 12 percent of white voters who had backed Obama in 2012 voted for Trump four years later. Eleven percent of black Obama 2012 voters stayed home.
In 2016 Hillary Clinton performed much worse than Obama '12 in the key battleground states because so many base voters preferred to stay home than vote for her:
2016 was an election cycle in which Trump’s margin of victory was one of the narrowest in U.S. history. It came down to about 78,000 votes in three states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. It’s hard not to wonder, then, how the decrease in turnout among black voters might have affected the outcome. In Michigan, where 14 percent of residents are black, Trump won by 10,704 votes of 4.8 million cast. In Pennsylvania, he won by 44,000 of 6.2 million cast — with blacks making up more than a tenth of the population. Clinton wins those states, and the 2016 race is essentially a tie.
In other words, "Not this woman!" the base said. And today Biden’s numbers are very similar to where her’s were. In fact, he's polling worse than she was in August 2016. Young voters and black voters are pissed that he hasn't delivered on things like reforming the court, voting rights, student loans etc. The shit with Israel where we have promised the Israeli government unconditional support and military aid while they level Palestine isn't helping him. A majority of Americans now disapprove of his handling of the conflict.
The White House has said that polling a year out doesn’t mean anything. But 55 percent of the voting public having a negative perception of you is a lot to turn around in less than a year when they have 3-4 years of previous knowledge of you as president informing their opinion.
They have also pointed to the success of measures like abortion and marijuana legalization in the recent off year elections as a good sign, mistakenly. These elections indicate that voters like abortion and weed. They do not like Joe Biden. Unless he changes his name to Abortion and Weed, there's no reason to think the success of these referendums (deep-red Trump country Ohio legalized abortion for pete's sake) carries over to Biden himself when he's on the ballot.
His numbers are about as bad as they can get for a sitting president:
Only one-third of U.S. adults say they approve of President Biden’s job performance — a record low for his presidency and for any president in the last 15 years. In an ABC News/Ipsos poll, conducted Jan. 4-8, only 33 percent of those surveyed said they approved of Biden, a drop from the previous poll in September 2023, when 37 percent approved of his performance. Biden’s disapproval rating is 58 percent, up from 56 percent in September.
The party is taking an unwarranted gamble nominating someone whose approval rating is in the 30s and the base has lost trust in. It's totally unwise to run somebody that the base and 55 percent of voters have a negative perception of. These numbers matter particularly when you're talking about how razor thin the vote margins in some of these swing states were in 2020. When he loses next year Reddit will be sitting here posting about how "stupid" "entitled" "low information" the voters are when they sent a message loud and clear in polling a year before the election that he was not their first choice.
We have seen this before. Both parties run historically unpopular candidates, and Republicans eak out a win because Dems stayed home. It is not an inevitable outcome. There is still time to course correct and dump Biden, but Dems need to act quickly and find a younger nominee.

2024.05.14 18:40 thepurlshq Cisplatin & Radiation Treatment (My Experience)

Update post on my progress and protocols for my treatment with side effects and how I managed it all.
Now that I'm done with treatment, I hope that this can help others who may be starting the same journey and have questions. I attribute my easy time to the premeds and my mental willpower. I focus on the positives and silver linings over the negatives. You can only control one thing -- your reactions. The rest requires you to practice acceptance.
Diagnosis: Stage 2 Endocervical Adenocarcinoma Gastric Type with LVSI
Treatment Plan: Surgery (cervix, uterus, and ovaries) followed by concurrent Chemo with Radiation with a PET Scan scheduled 2 months after treatment to determine if NED or more treatment is required.
I was scheduled for 6 chemo cycles, once a week, and 28 radiation beam therapies. Chemo happened on Monday and Radiation was Monday through Friday. I had to skip Cycle 3 on Chemo only because I was hospitalized with Norovirus and my counts were too low. I still did radiation those days.
Chemo Protocol in order of meds:
  1. Magnesium Sulfate + Potassium Chloride. Cisplatin strips this from your body, supplements.
  2. Emend (Fosaprepitant) - antiemetic. I had to get a port for this, it burned my arm vein and I had to use other arm for Chemo, no fun.
  3. Aloxi (Palonosetron) - antiemetic.
  4. Decadron (Dexamethasone) - steroid. It burns in your nether region, if it burns too much, ask them to push it slower.
  5. Lasix (Furosemide) - diuretic. Cisplatin is hard on kidneys, this is to help purge the chemo faster. Be close to a bathroom and ask nurse if you can just unplug your IV pole and go to bathroom freely vs. pushing call button -- its easier.
  6. Cisplatin (Platinol) 70mg (my dose). Didn't make me feel any different than the other infusions.
Plan for at least 5 hours for the above. I started at 7:30am and ended between 12 and 12:30pm.
Cisplatin Symptoms: This is going to vary person to person and you may get different premeds than me.
Pelvic Radiation Symptoms: This is going to be different based on what areas are treated. My bladder, vagina, and pelvic nodes were heavily treated. Be sure you understand the side effects before you start treatment - so you can be on top of everything. Below is my experience and I had a fairly easy time of it.
Nurses are your best friend. Having cancer and going through treatment sucks, but the nurses are there for you and my experience was all-inclusive resort service. Take advantage of the snacks (yes they have ice cream) when you're getting chemo. Don't be shy about asking them about your meds, they did a good job explaining this to me, but I still had questions now and again. It takes a special person to be an oncology nurse and you feel it. It never felt fake or like they were putting on a show/smile just for me. They truly cared. I never want to see them again either way :)
Edited to add: get a port. You will not regret it. I plan on keeping mine for a year after NED, which will require a monthly flush. It makes things so much easier, especially if you have to be hospitalized. I didn't need the numbing cream, it hurts less than the arm pokes for labs and infusions. I asked for mine before chemo and doctor didn't think it was necessary. First treatment proved it was - I had three IV's that day and I'm still suffering from the Emend infusion (not the chemo surprisingly) on my arm. Yes, its surgery but its easy. I had it in place before my 2nd chemo and it was lifechanging. I'd keep it for life it wasn't for the monthly flushes lol, my arm veins were crap to start and the more they are poked the worse they get.

What’s up with my gf’s hydrangeas?
Gf moved into a new house and planted 2 hydrangeas in the front. This was 1 year ago.
Are we safe to prune off the dead stalks that aren’t producing? I think one mistake made was the dead flowers were not trimmed off in the fall, is that what she’s supposed to do?
We’re located in Western New York and these are planted on the north side of the house.

2024.05.14 17:39 Such-Onion-- Peach trees at my mom's house.

Peach trees at my mom's house.
Hi. 👋🏽 She didn't prune, amend or tend to these two peach trees for almost 3 years.
I planted a decade ago, fence was added later. The years I tended to them I used composted sheep manure from my uncle's farm, compost from the bin and did mulch layering and stuff. .
She applied sevin two weeks ago. ( bad cause It actually sickened her dogs)
I'm going to check them out soon and planned to give her some nematodes, beneficial bugs and BT bits.... but I'm not sure if that's any good here....also given she applied sevin.
She also gave it a 10-10-10 because she couldn't locate a 5-10-10 and a mulching. She said she pruned both as well and is trying to keep anything that falls off the ground around the trees.
She's not okay with removal of these trees unfortunately. Any suggestions???

2024.05.14 17:33 DaveHervey Beverage market Cannabis legalization: soon grass instead of hops? May 8, 2024 in market report

Cannabis has now been – at least partially – legal in Germany for a good five weeks. Will there soon be THC drinks in this country? Will Germans then drink less alcohol? And where can the substances actually be consumed? While the answers to this will probably take a while to come, many, including those in the beverage industry, are looking with excitement to Canada, where marijuana has been legal since 2018.
The approval there quickly led to the introduction of a wealth of new mixed drinks. The beverage manufacturer Truss Beverages from the province of Ontario brought non-alcoholic drinks enriched with THC and CBD in a wide variety of, mostly fruity, flavors and different, precisely defined potencies onto the market under the brand names XMG, Little Victory, Mollo and Bedfellows. Truss is a joint venture between brewing company Molson Coors and cannabis company Hexo.
THC drinks soon in Germany too? It's no wonder that, given the opportunities offered by a completely new category, companies in this country are already positioning themselves to be among the pioneers if cannabis extracts are also approved as beverage additives here. For example, the Hamburg company “Good Drinks” is currently discussing whether THC in its drinks could be a useful brand addition, as co-owner Frank Maßen reports.
Good Drinks is currently on the market with vodka and energy drinks, for example. Well-known Hamburg restaurateurs such as Axel Strehlitz and John Schierhorn, both of whom have deep roots in the local club scene, are involved in the start-up. Maßen sees THC as a logical progression for a brand that has partying in its DNA, but “the idea of introducing a THC variant raises a lot of questions, especially in terms of brand image and acceptance,” said Maßen.
Discussions are currently underway internally about how to handle this potential expansion without damaging the essence of the brand, which is strongly linked to the club culture. There are intensive discussions with the licensors of the Hamburg Club Combine, which launched the brand together with Good Drinks to support the local club scene as a social business ( we reported ).
Some THC drinks already on the market in Canada Some THC drinks already on the market in Canada (Product photos: Truss Beverages) Breweries would certainly also be potential manufacturers. But the German Brewers Association considers it unlikely that many breweries could jump on the cannabis bandwagon. “Germany is and remains the country of beer drinkers. With 1,500 breweries and almost 8,000 brands, we have a beer variety that is unique in the world,” says Managing Director Holger Eichele. Beer is still the national drink, although consumption has been declining for years, as in many other European countries.
“Edibles” are still banned under EU law Apart from that, an introduction would not yet be legally possible, because drinks with THC or CBD fall under “edibles” in the EU; This refers to foods and drinks that contain cannabis. They are therefore affected by the Novel Food Regulation, explains the managing director of the Bavarian Cannabis Association, Wenzel Cerveny. This means that they can only be placed on the market once they have been tested as safe by the EU.
“This is something that a small manufacturer cannot do - this test would have to be initiated by a large company,” says Cerveny. He himself is currently working with the small brewery “Unertl” from Haag in Upper Bavaria on an alcohol-free beer with hemp extract. However, without THC or CBD, but with hemp as a special taste.
To provide a more detailed explanation, the EU states that there has been no evidence of any significant consumption of the individual substance CBD (cannabidiol) before May 15, 1997. It is therefore assessed as novel in the European Commission's Novel Food Catalog under the entry “Cannabinoids” and therefore requires its own approval. As long as this does not exist, such products are not marketable. The same applies to products containing THC.
Alcohol consumption in Canada fell after legalization It's not just new products that could affect the German beverage industry if they are allowed in the future. Using Canada as an example, it is clear to see that cannabis consumption has a direct influence on consumers' drinking behavior. A joint study by the University of Manitoba, Memorial University and the University of Toronto has shown that Canadians are drinking significantly less alcohol since they were legally allowed to consume cannabis.
For example, the study published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence observed an average monthly decline in beer consumption of 136 hectoliters per 100,000 people after legalization. In this context, the authors speak of a “substitution effect”, in which consumers choose cannabis instead of beer as their intoxicant of choice.
Mixing with alcohol is not advisable Both together are considered by “connoisseurs” to be not very digestible. Even Truss Beverages advises against consuming its THC drinks mixed with alcohol on its website, citing recommendations from the Canadian Health Authority. Again and again, the product description in connection with the dosage is about ensuring a “controlled and predictable consumption experience”.
Clear warnings label drinks containing THC in Canada. Clear warnings label drinks containing THC in Canada. (Photo: Truss Beverages) A look at the 2022/23 financial year shows how strong cannabis legalization can have on the alcohol industry. Accordingly, Canada received more excise tax revenue from cannabis ($660 million) than from wine ($205 million) and beer ($450 million) combined.
It is still completely unclear whether the industry will have to adapt to similar shifts in this country. The German Brewers Association is rather relaxed: It is still far too early to speculate about possible effects, emphasizes DBB boss Eichele. “There are studies from abroad where markets have been examined in more detail. However, these studies cannot be transferred one-to-one to Germany; the starting points are far too different. We don’t expect any visible effects in this country.”
Where smoking is allowed, you can also smoke weed The question of how to deal with marijuana users in the catering industry is already very current; It is being hotly debated all over the country. While the use of the drug indoors is usually prohibited, there is scope for freedom in outdoor areas and, for example, beer gardens.
The German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) says that initial feedback from the industry shows a tendency not to allow the consumption of marijuana. The legal situation varies from federal state to federal state, as Dehoga managing director and legal expert Jürgen Benad knows: “Where smoking is still permitted according to the legal regulations of the federal states, cannabis consumption is also generally permitted.”
But it is also clear: “Every restaurateur is allowed to prohibit guests from consuming cannabis – even in smoking bars – based on their house rules,” says Benad. This also applies to outdoor catering. Cannabis may not be consumed “in the immediate presence” of minors. What this specifically means in the catering industry will not be easy to define in individual cases.
Zero tolerance or laissez-faire? While the beer gardens in Munich, for example, will remain consumption-free until further notice due to Bavaria's zero-tolerance policy, people in Berlin are more open-minded. “Since the cannabis law was approved, the consumption of cannabis in the catering industry has been considered synonymous with the consumption of cigarettes and other tobacco products,” says Tony Ettelt-Brundiers, managing director of “Zenner”, a cultural and gastronomic ensemble consisting of a vineyard, beer garden and organic ice cream parlor , concert hall, club space and event location in the capital.
“We are not questioning this law,” said Ettelt-Brundiers. “Regardless of what our guests smoke in the Zenner’s outdoor areas, we ask everyone to be considerate, especially if other guests could feel disturbed by someone else’s smoke, regardless of its origin.” This principle of mutuality Consideration has worked surprisingly well in Zenner for more than 200 years, which the aforementioned amendment to the law should not change, according to the managing director.
How much cannabis will ultimately change the beverage industry and social life surrounding beverages is still entirely unknown.

2024.05.14 10:22 Swimming_Mulberry_63 I think the game is hitting me with anticheat

More or less I decided to charge my puffco proxy (a marijuana extract smoking device) with my ps5 via the usb port. I was using a usb that did register data(not just a charging cable) and when I plugged it in the game has since been nerfing my damage, turning some players invisible, giving me damage from falling even if I have mountaineer equipped, and the recoil on my guns got worse, not insanely worse, but definitely noticeable. I kept getting angry and had my wife watch me play a match since she asked why I was upset. She herself (who has watched me play 100 times) was getting frustrated. Was there a patch that nerfed the Cheech and Chong blueprint or do you think the game picked up my puffco as some alternate device.

2024.05.14 00:12 boobsonmybody What to do with this overgrown rose bush

What to do with this overgrown rose bush
I bought a house with this very large bush. It seems overgrown, but it's also giving off a great show as is. I'm wondering what the benefits of pruning it in the fall would be, if any. Or leave it alone? There is a smaller bunch of stalks with orange flowers coming out around the base of this one too. Any advice is appreciated, I know nothing about roses! It was covered in aphids three weeks ago but I sprayed 50% off with the hose and the rest seem to have been eaten by ladybugs so the blooms look great in my eyes.

2024.05.13 23:07 redheadedgremlin19 So many questions!

I just left my appointment for my annual pap and found out I am 4weeks & 5days pregnant. I have a follow up scheduled at 8weeks and my Dr said to start to prenatal. Until then, I am a chronic over-thinker and I now have so many questions!! I’m not ready to share my news with family or friends that I would normally ask & I’m hoping this is a good and safe space to get some answers 🤞🏽 If anyone has any response to one or any of these questions, or a good resource where I could find these answers, you will help give me some piece of mind and a place to start!
  1. I have drank alcohol the past 2 weekends (without knowing about the pregnancy of course) and I just want to know if that’s something I need to worry about now?
  2. I am a really clumsy person and I trip and fall a lot, is this something I need to be weary of? Is a small fall a big deal or are all falls a big deal?
  3. I have a 100lb dog that sleeps between my husband and I and he will often kick his legs out in his sleep and kick me in my back, ribs, stomach. I plan to get a pregnancy pillow, but is there anything else I can do to ensure safety while I sleep? Is this even a concern or just me?
  4. PCOS, Endometriosis, and fertility problems run in my family. Is there any extra testing I should look into getting done to ensure a healthy pregnancy? Is there any additional supplementation I should be doing to counteract these issues?
  5. I smoke marijuana regularly for medical reasons, and I have heard mixed things on smoking while pregnant. Does anyone know if it will affect the pregnancy if I continue to smoke? And what, if any, are the short/long term affects on baby?
  6. I know there is a lot of foods pregnant women should stay away from. What are the most dangerous foods to stay away from and am I supposed to start following a specific diet now?
