my insane mother was chasing my dog to go outside (which he wouldn't bc he's scared of her and even more so when she's yelling) and how we have it is a sliding door w a deck outside and wood covering the exit. i was asleep so i didn't know that my mom locked him outside on the deck for 10+ hours and this morning i thought gr was gone forever but he escaped the deck and was walking around and showed up at the front door. he's really cold and active but i put him under my heated blanket and he seems ok. is there anything i should do? is he gonna be ok?
also for context it was cold and raining the entire night

2024.05.14 15:40 DizzyMink Callaway Preowned deals/sales. What’s the best you’ve seen?

Currently Callaway Preowned is running a 20% off sitewide deal, with 5% additional to fairway woods. I’m currently looking to purchase a driver and wondering if there’s any benefit in waiting for a better sale. Is this one of those sites where there is always some kind of ‘sale’ running? Should I stop being greedy and just hop on this 20%?

2024.05.14 15:38 MarioMakerLegend I've been doing an 100 Days but the version upgrades everyday in Betacraft, any thoughts?

This is probably the most ambitious project I've done, but I'm on day 62 as of writing this, and it's been a blast! Here are my notes for every day in this: Day 1 (inf-20100607) Did nothing more than make myself a house and get food. Wood seemed scarce, so I mined coal during the night.
Day 2 (inf-20100608) Lit up the area, and made myself a cloth cap and shirt. The first sapling grew today, so I chopped it down and replanted.
Day 1 (again) (inf-20100611) Minecraft decided that my world didn't exist so I had to restart. Not too hard, though. I had to quickly build myself a wooden house (good thing there were so many trees!) and hide in there for the night. I didn't have coal, so no torches, and no torches means no light, and no light means PITCH BLACK nights. I was genuinely scared by this. Also, the skeletons and zombies made player noises. Weird.
Day 2 (again) (inf-20100615) Finished the wood shack and installed windows (not the OS, mind you). Then I added a tube to the back of the mineshaft to get to my house easier, and I also went mining. Found coal, but didn't have enough time to mine it due to it being update time.
Day 3 (inf-20100616-1) Decided to make a giant cobblestone nerd-pole so that I wouldn't get lost when exploring. Speaking of exploring, I did just that... for a little bit. That was very short-lived. I ended up mining for a while, and found the void-lava.
Day 4 (inf-20100617-1) Today was so far the most successful mining trip. I nerded out about the old trees having logs on the inside and the new trees not having that and those two kinds of trees being right next to each other. That's a run on sentence isn't it? Then I went into the mines and found more iron than I can count. Like I said, successful.
Day 5 (inf-20100617-2) Mining trip was good. Got more iron and found some void gold (a gold vein that exposed the void). It was cool.
Day 6 (inf-20100618, Seecret Friday 1) I screwed around with minecarts.
Day 7 (inf-20100624) Decided to light up the area around spawn, but not in spawn. Decided to fight baddies for the heck of it that night. Also made the house look more appealing.
Day 8 (inf-20100625-1) Everything that I placed and did in the last day got reversed to how they were on Day 6, except for my inventory. I spent the day fixing everything. In the night, I went mining and found more iron. No diamonds D:
Day 9 (inf-20100625-2, Seecret Friday 2) Today they added dungeons and some other stuff but it's not very important to me right now. Went mining for the day.
Day 10 (inf-20100627) Nothing interesting was added today so I went exploring to find water. I also made a glass room in my mine to tell the time.
Day 11 (inf-20100630-1) Infdev 20100629 didn't wanna work. So here we are, at 20100630-1. Stairs were added in the last version, so I added stairs to my mine. The stairs sure are finnicky, though! I also filled a creeper blast with water (that is surprisingly calming...)
Day 12 (inf-20100630-2) The last Infdev day. Tomorrow it will be Alpha! To prepare for the long journey of Alpha releases I built a new addition to the house. Finally, I made a sign and a shrine for Infdev. Farewell!
Day 13 (a1.0.1_01) Last version was Seecret Friday, but the file is lost and I have to play this version. But there are so many changes!! Excited! Didn't find redstone in the mines, though. I also finished the new room and organized the chests.
Day 14 (a1.0.2_01) Went exploring for some coal and cooked all my pork chops.
Day 15 (a1.0.2_02) Can't remember much other than that I went mining. That's it I guess?
Day 16 (a1.0.3) Went exploring for some coal but found a cool cave and also found lots of coal and iron
Day 17 (a1.0.4, Seecret Friday 4) Same as Day 16.
Day 18 (a1.0.5) Went back home and decided to go strip-mining because caving didn't go very well. Not much happened.
Day 19 (a1.0.5_01) There is a new project now; I am carving my face on a mountain. Gonna need a lot of stone though. And gravel. Lots and lots of gravel.
Day 20 (a1.0.6, Seecret Friday 5) Cactuses were added. Neat I guess. Also Boats. But that doesn't apply to what I did today because what I did today was work on my face. I went to get gravel. There was a lot of gravel.
Day 21 (a1.0.6_01) Marked the gravel spot, got distracted, and now I'm lost. at least I found a cactus!
Day 22 (a1.0.6_03) Using the power of looking back at the footage, I was able to return home! With the cactus! Yippee!
Day 23 (a1.0.7) Continued work on the face: I did it! Now I am making the body. Might need more gravel...
Day 24 (a1.0.8_01) i died.
Day 25 (a1.0.9) I continued working on my statue of me and got some more gravel. Had 1 block left after finishing!
Day 26 (a1.0.10) Went strip mining, found no diamonds.
Day 27 (a1.0.11, Seecret Friday 6) This update, lots of cool stuff was added but nothing that I can use. Went strip mining and found zero diamonds.
Day 28 (a1.0.12) The splash was "missingno" for some reason. Anyways, continued working on a giant tower. Ladders suck
Day 29 (a1.0.13) Finished the tower. Ladders STILL suck...
Day 30 (a1.0.13_01) Got bored of building so I went in one direction to find some sugarcane. Found some and am going back
Day 31 (a1.0.13_01 1Kin24h edition) The title screen was changed to say 1K in 24h because Minecraft sold 1,000 units in 24 hours! That might not seem like a lot but at the time that was big news. ANYWAYS, got back home and planted sugarcane, and also made a bookshelf. Also, bricks!
Day 32 (a1.0.14-1, Seecret Friday 7) Chickens and chest minecarts and furnace minecarts are added and I WANT A RAIL SYSTEM so I decided that my face could be a cart station. also iron doors suck
Day 33 (a1.0.14-2) What did I do... Oh yeah i put a tower compass thing.
Day 34 (a1.0.15) Played Minecraft, Watched Hermitcraft, Got Gravel.
Day 35 (a1.0.16) Mined some dirt
Day 36 (a1.0.16_01) placed the dirt replacing the sand, also paths.
Day 37 (a1.0.16_02) paths. PATHS!!!!!!1!
Day 38 (a1.0.17_02) Fences were added in alpha 1.0.17 but that version and a1.0.7_01 are lost so this is the one I have to play. Anyways, I got some wood for a farm project. How is that related? You'll see...
Day 39 (a1.0.17_03) See, fences placed underneath farmland makes the farmland UNTRAMPLEABLE. That's nice.
Day 40 (a1.0.17_04) Last a1.0.1x version! Grinding for wood sux.
Day 41 (a1.1.0-1, Seecret Friday 9) Compasses! I WANT A COMPASS. So I don't get lost ;) but i don't have redstone so i went mining for some. NO LUCK as always...
Day 42 (a1.1.0-2) Mining. No. Redstone. Or. Diamonds.
Day 43 (a1.1.1, Seecret Saturday) SNEAKIN' ROUND THE BLOCK, WOOHOO! Spent this legendary version just mining and found BEDROCK. I'll tell you that that wasn't there before. Still no redstone OR diamonds. FOUND A CAVE, THOUGH.
Day 44 (a1.1.2) idk what I did, I cooked pork I guess
Day 45 (a1.1.2_01) I mined out a bit of my face and gave a tour of the world to Pap. Last version with neon foliage.
Day 46 (a1.2.0, Halloween Update) Because this version added the Nether, I desperately tried to get diamonds so I could make a nether portal. Alas, no luck on that front.
Day 47 (a1.2.0_01) Continued mining until my pickaxes broke. After that, I hollowed out some more of my face. That's it?
Day 48 (a1.2.0_02) I tried making a rail way to the resource gathering area, but turns out that furnace minecarts are extremely finnicky. That project will have to wait until Beta 1.5...
Day 49 (a1.2.1_01) Turns out that Alpha 1.2.1 is the only lost Alpha 1.2 version. Go figure. Anyways, I started working on Mama's Mother's Day gift thing, and got ambushed by like a million mobs during the night. This is what I signed up for when switching to Hard mode, what did I expect?
Day 50 (a1.2.2-1) The ability to easily switch between texture packs was added in this version, replacing the ever-defunct "Play tutorial level" button. Also, nether portals with F4. I'm definitely going to use that once I figure out how it works. Update: figured out how the portals work, they seem to be random. I tried it in a test world then in my actual world and it worked! It was really cool in the Nether, but I just so happen to be underground. Ugh.
Day 51 (a1.2.2-2) Spent the day continuing working on the Mother's Day gift. I didn't die this time!
Day 52 (a1.2.3) Coordinates were added to the F3 menu, which is pretty nice. Now I CAN'T get lost! Anyways, I finished the Mother's Day gift and then died due to skelley boi. Man I need to mine... That will be a project for tomorrow.
Day 53 (a1.2.3_01-1) I didn't mine. Instead, I focused on ranged attacks and getting food and leather for armor.
Day 54 (a1.2.3_01-2) I continued to get resources from animals and ended up with a lot of pork chops and a leather shirt.
Day 55 (a1.2.3_02) Started a new mine so that I can get iron and diamonds faster. I found iron actually now!
Day 56 (a1.2.3_04) Turns out a1.2.3_03 doesn't exist. Weird, huh? Anyway, I finished digging down to y11 and am installing stairs.
Day 57 (a1.2.4, a1.2.3_05 in-game) Continued mining out my brand-new definitely not abandoned mineshaft. Got some of the unused rails and put them to good use!
Day 58 (a1.2.4_01) Went a little overtime huh? Well today was kinda uneventful, i mined, mined some more, and mined EVEN MORE. STILL no diamonds. I'm kinda losing hope...
Day 59 (a1.2.5) Only 1 alpha version left! Wow, time really did fly fast, huh? Anyway, I went and made a new room below the furnace room for storage, so that when I am in the beta versions I won't run out of storage. I also need wood.
Day 60 (a1.2.6) It's the LAST version of Alpha, and you know what I'm gonna do? Make an alpha shrine of course! I did the same for Infdev on day 12 if you remember. So yeah, that's what I'll do today. Update: I got killed by a zombie at the last second it COULD have. That sux
Day 61 (b1.0) Immediately, the Alpha shrine got blown up by a creeper instantly. And I died twice. It gets better, though. I continued working on the storage area and got things sorted out. However, there appears to be an inventory bug and that made my life waay harder. Still though, pretty productive day!
Day 62 (b1.0_01) The stupid chest bug was fixed! Yaay!

2024.05.14 15:38 itgphreak Am I a bad parent for warning my child to act a little more normal?

Let me start off by saying when I was a kid in school I was considered the weird kid, didn't have a lot of close friends, was made fun of sometimes because I wasn't like other girls, but was fine doing things on my own outside of school the last thing I want is her to go through that.
My(f) daughter (12f) is amazing. Wonderful at drawing and being creative. She loves to try new adventures and pick up fun rocks and sticks in the woods like me. I'd say we are very similar, with the exception that I was a jock since I was born and am built that way versus her which is built like a beanpole in the nicest way.
I am an oddball and it has definitely rubbed off on her. I love that we have a lot in common, but I've noticed she has some weird social habits like texting her friends things like "I know where you live" or speaking in a super low tone randomly for no reason which makes people jump because it's sudden and loud. I know these may seem insignificant, but it just scratches the surface. The main difference is I know when it's appropriate to act silly and weird and she thinks that it's all the time. So I asked her recently if she could act a little more normal when we are out and about and she seemed quite dejected afterwards.
I find myself being more and more critical of her actions and I hate it. Im getting upset at the littlest things that aren't with the social norm to the point where I'm annoyed at her. I want her to feel loved and accepted, but I also want her to be able to navigate life with ease and be able to make good friends.
She made a friend this year who ended up introducing her to therianism (believing you are an animal in the wrong body) and she confessed that to her step mom, but didn't say anything to me because she wanted to "come out" to me when she was ready. I looked into it and it seems benign, but she got.so incredibly into making different masks to pretend she was different animals, which we supported because they were beautiful and creative. But then this friend suggested my daughter start scratching herself to deal with negativite feelings. The scratching happened 3 times. And we ended up having her block her phone number and cut contact and things seemed to subside.
Where do I draw the line on whether to educate or encourage? Should I just let things happen or say something that could help her but would probably be considered nagging? Am I just projecting past insecurities onto her?
I feel like the worst parent. I just want what's best for her and don't feel like I'm doing a job of building her up with confidence and instead I point out everything that's wrong. I don't want to be like that. So any advice?

Decking oil, advice
I bought a pigmented decking oil (see picture 1&2) and when I tested it out on my deck, the color seemed off. You can see in the pictures what I bought (the color is called cinnamon), and the application turned out like chocolate brown.
Now, they (the store clerk) told me that it takes weeks for the final color to reveal and that it will eventually match the sample in the store closely.
From my knowledge, oil will always make the wood darker. So I wonder if this pigmented oil will get lighter at all.
What do you guys think?

2024.05.14 15:32 slipknot0007 the happy life before the internet and the poor millionnaire mentality in nowadays

What is the most important thing in your life ? give it a moment and think about it, nowadays people are craving money like fire craves wood, they just want to be millionnaires in any way no matter the cost and legality of it they simply don't care! going back just 15 to 20 years ago people were looking for success rather than just money, the difference is that success is a feeling of pleasure when succeeding at something you like to do and you start seeing big profit from it, back then and at the time of our parents when they were young they enjoyed life way better than us, yes they weren't rich (in my case) but still they lived with what they had and tried to enjoy their life and face the problems together ... today situation is way different than this, today everyone is trying to become rich, everyone is saying that if you reach your 30's without having at least a 1 million dollar you are a loser, if you have internet and a computer you have everything to be a millionnaire if you didn't become wealthy you are just a loser and a stupid person, it's like they made a very high standars for a normal life which made many people depressed and trying to despretly acheive this fake dreams by investing in things they don't know anything about and end up losing all their money (forex, trading, crypto, ecommerce ...) they get more depressed because they couldn't reach the normal life on the scale of the current generation, instead of living a happy peaceful life with what they currently have not saying that we shouldn't look for something better but we always need to accept our selfes and try to improve, it's really sad seeing people suffering physically and emotionaly just because they are trying to become millionnaires at the age of 30 because some random stupid guy on the internet said that and was like "Cmon buy my course and become a millionnaire, if you bought it and didn't get your first million dollar by the end of the month your are a loser and you should blame yourself", the question i always had are our parents were stupid than us or life was way difficult for them ? why didn't they crave money like we are doing right now specially back then the industries weren't that crouded like today, do we think that we are better than them ? if so why most of our generation still didn't even get a job to support his needs and most of them still living with their parents ? did things actually got better with all this internet stuff or it's just the same or way worse than before ? to the most people it seems like getting your 1 million dollar like an easy quest but when you try to actually do it you face the ugly reality which most of the current generation don't know, the internet helped a lot of people and made some things easier but it will never act as a shortcut to get millions in matter of days or become a millionnaire by the age of 30 ... it's just a dream unless you are trying to do something shady stuff

2024.05.14 15:31 IrinaSophia Saint Isidor of Rostov, the Fool-For-Christ (+ 1474) (May 14th)

The blessed Isidor (Tverdislov) lived in the middle of the fifteenth century. Though Slavic by birth, he lived in Brandenburg, one of the most ancient cities of Prussia. During those years, the Slavs of this region were fiercely persecuted by the Germans, who were trying to convert the entire population to Catholicism.
When he reached adolescence and perceived the insolvency of the Roman Catholic Faith, Isidor sought to move to an Orthodox Christian land.
Belonging to the wealthy merchant class, he willingly forswore his wealth, his parents, and his inheritance, and for Christ’s sake began to roam from place to place with his staff.
We do not know exactly when Isidor converted to Orthodoxy, nor when he arrived in Russia, but he ultimately settled in Rostov, north of Moscow.
He found a marshy area within the city and chose a site slightly above the water level. There, he built a small hut with bulrush. This hut afforded no protection from the heat or the cold, since it was not covered by anything; it only concealed his great asceticism from the eyes of the world.
The Saint spent his time in the customary manner of fools-for-Christ’s sake. At night, he prayed unceasingly, allowing himself only a brief sleep. His days were spent in the city streets or marketplaces with voluntary acts of foolishness. Occasionally, he would rest his weary body on a pile of waste or manure.
He instructed and taught those who desired spiritual guidance, condemned immorality, and led many souls to the path of salvation. At night, he would pray for all of those who had caused him offense and for those whom he saw wallowing in sin.
“Oh, Isidor!” he often said to himself, and cried out: “You must pass through many sorrows to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
The Saint's love for the Lord was great, wherefore the Lord loved him and granted him the gift of working miracles and of prophecy.
• “On one occasion,” his biographer relates, “a Rostov merchant was with his comrades at sea during a terrible storm. The ship, probably having struck a reef, suddenly stopped and began to be broken up by the waves. The strong force of the sea threatened to destroy it.
“In their despair, all of those on board began to prepare for death. Then, in the midst of their misfortune, imitating the case of the Prophet Jonah, the voyagers decided to cast lots, supposing that the ship had stopped on account of a crime committed by one of the passengers. The lot fell on the Rostov merchant, who was also the owner of the ship. The crowd then threw the merchant into the sea together with a plank.
“Cast by the wrath of his companions into the raging sea, the hapless merchant began to surrender himself to death. Suddenly, the Blessed Isidor appeared before him, walking on the sea as if on dry land. The Saint took the merchant by the hand and asked him, ‘Do you know who I am?’ The unfortunate man, barely breathing, said: ‘Servant of God, Isidor, help me....’
“The Blessed Isidor pulled the merchant onto the piece of wood and, as if propelled by an unseen hand, the plank began to follow the ship that had already departed. When it came alongside the ship, the merchant suddenly found himself on the deck. When the other voyagers saw him in their midst, they were struck with terror and glorified the merciful God, because they understood that a miracle had taken place. The merchant kept silent, because the Saint had strictly forbidden him to tell exactly what had happened.
“When he returned to Rostov, the merchant would make a prostration to the Saint whenever he saw him from a distance; and the latter, passing nearby him, would remind him of his prohibition. Thus, the merchant would always say that God had saved him by an intervention of His Grace.”
The Blessed Isidor reposed on May 14, 1474.
He did not leave his hut at all during the last days of his earthly life, instead praying with tears until the hour of his righteous repose.
At the moment of his repose, an unusual fragrance spread throughout the entire city. Everyone marveled and began to seek its source. They soon discovered that the closer they approached the blessed Fool’s hut, the stronger the fragrance became. Someone ventured to look inside and saw the Saint lying on the ground, face upwards and his hands crossed upon his chest. He announced the death of the man of God to everyone. They buried the Saint in his hut, in the exact spot where he had reposed.
The merchant that had been saved from the sea was at the burial. Finally freed from his bond of silence, he began with sobs to relate to everyone the details of his miraculous rescue.
With the blessing of the Bishop, those who loved and revered Saint Isidor built a wooden chapel near his grave, in honor of the Ascension of the Lord, because the Saint had reposed on the eve of the Feast.
In 1566, by order of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, the wooden chapel was replaced by a stone Church. A Priest tried to open the Saint’s tomb, but an invisible power pushed him back. A silver shrine was placed on the grave in 1815, from whence flowed a steady stream of miracles by the Saint.
The celebration of the commemoration of the Saint by the Faithful began on the very day of his repose. Thirteen years later, his name officially appeared on the Russian Church Calendar.

2024.05.14 15:29 IrinaSophia Saint Isidor of Rostov, the Fool-for-Christ (+ 1474) (May 14th)

2024.05.14 15:26 bruclinbrocoli hobby wood?

Anywhere in Central Vermont or Chittenden County that I can find hobby size wood?
like 1/4"-1" thick wood?
I am looking to explore with wood and make small models, sizes ranging from a small birdhouse, to a table. Not necessarily to make these two types of items. Just looking for thinner wood that is not 1 1/2" thick and above.
I used to make models with bass wood, and chipboard, but that may be too small. However, I feel like a store like that would probably sell 1/4"-1" thick wood. I dont have a planer or such machinery. Just something I can cut with a handsaw, and such. Im happy to specify more if needed. (look out for post edits in such case)
any leads? TYIA!!

2024.05.14 15:25 namtaruu Where should I start with old door frames?

Where should I start with old door frames?
All the frames are old, chipped and have yellowed paints and this one was redone to open the door outwards. The architraves are plastic. The doors are dark brown, varnished I assume, because I can see the grains. They are in good condition and good quality solid cores.
The plan is to repaint the frames and the doors to white. But where should I start?
As for the frames first I clean/degrease (sugar soap?), fill the chips, gaps, nail holes, etc. (with white wood filler), then sand (120 grit?) then paint the frames, I assume. I will need to caulk the gap above the frame, shall I use paintable caulk before I paint and paint it over?
What's the best way to approach the doors?
Thanks for any ideas.

2024.05.14 15:24 Proper-Acadia4443 As many objects as possible for drowning individuals to float on

Would there have been any way (assuming practically everyone on board knew the ship would soon sink) to find an effective method to get as much floating ship gear like deck chairs, doors, and wooden gratings effectively out to sea and keep them afloat?
So, the Titanic hits the iceberg at 11:40 in the evening, and Captain Smith immediately orders the lifeboats to be prepared, already knowing there aren't enough boats to save all the passengers. He instructs some crew members (there were 900 crew members) to quickly search the ship (the dining areas, anywhere possible) for floatable wood and then bring it to the deck at the waterline. All able-bodied men (suitable for this task) must come to the waterline and secure themselves on the rafts while women and children are placed in the lifeboats.
Not such a crazy plan, right? Of course, I realize it wouldn't save all 2,200 people, but probably hundreds more than in the original scenario, wouldn't it?
