#1305, what now?
I’m at Code #1305 on my transcript, the only thing listed is “tax return filed”, with a date listed of 00-00-0000.
I e-filed in early April using TurboTax Home & Business (a physical disc & intuit login on my Mac) (I am SE, and have filed taxes every year since I started working, the same way - I’ve only ever been self employed)… it was challenging because of some weird things going on with TurboTax (a lot of folks had the same issues this year and TurboTax knew about it and eventually fixed the form), I started over once, and certain things were just really stressful.
Anyway, I filed with plenty of time technically (I prefer to be done earlier)… but couldn’t afford to pay it all for 2023. I don’t do estimated, so my entire tax bill comes due each April - I’ve always been able to pay it in full, but this time, I couldn’t. I requested a long-term payment plan (technically 10 months) with automatic bank account withdrawals (from a bank account I’ve only ever used for taxes).
My request was accepted immediately at the amount I requested to pay automatically each month… and I received a letter with instructions to wait for the letter that will confirm the monthly charges, the payment date, and the interest amount/penalties. I expected the first payment to be pulled April 15th, but the IRS still hasn’t taken their money.
I don’t know when it will be withdrawn, and I don’t know why there isn’t any info beyond the code 1305. I also get an error when I try to view payment options.
Are these things normal when my tax return for 2023 has been filed, a payment plan has been approved, and they’re just getting things in order? I’ll be happy when my first payment is pulled and I’m on my way to getting my tax bill beyond me.

I am moving to Denmark from the UK and have a contract in which the employer does not pay pension contributions for the first three months. I, however, do not want to create gaps in building up my pension pot and wondered if people could advice me on what is the best option available. In the UK I contribute to a SIPPs, which is a personal pension, aside from an occupational pension. I was particularly wondering whether I could still contribute to the Danish company's occupational pension during those three months or if it is better (for tax relief purposes or otherwise) to contribute to an equivalent personal pension scheme run by banks or investment funds/platforms in Denmark?

I am not sure when my visa will get canceled, on my last effective working date or my contract termination date?
I have sent in my resignation and state that my termination date is June 28th. Since I currently still have 24 paid holidays, I will only work until May 28th and leave the country on June 2nd. I won't be here until when my last salary paid out.
Is it possible that my employer cancels my visa on May 28th, and my bank account could get closed before June 28th? I know that my there is a 30-day grace period when a visa is canceled. If my visa is canceled on June 28th, I don't have much to worry about. The story is very different otherwise.

My name is Cagla, and I am currently studying for an MSc Psychology degree at London South Bank University. As part of my studies, I am conducting a study looking at mobbing, self-esteem, and anxiety among employees in the workplace. I am looking for anyone currently in full-time employment and between 18 and 50 to participate. However, if you are currently in therapy for a mental health condition it is advised that you don’t participate. Below I describe the study and at the end of the page is a link. Please participate!
This research aims to investigate whether levels of mobbing can predict levels of self-esteem and anxiety among employees in the workplace. Mobbing is a term used to describe the constant use of a particular type of non-violent aggression and hostile behaviour by other employees towards another employee to discredit and demean the individual and ultimately force the individual out of their position of employment. This behaviour exposes the individual to social isolation, humiliation, and emotional abuse, and individuals who are exposed to mobbing may experience signs or symptoms that can lead to distress in overall mental health.
The survey includes demographic questions, questions about the experience of mobbing, self-esteem, and anxiety. No other personal information will be asked for (i.e. name, etc.) and therefore their responses will be anonymised, making Reddit the perfect place to source participants the responses will be kept securely, and only my supervisor and I will have access to the responses. This survey should take approximately 15 minutes or less to complete. Participation in the study is entirely voluntary and people should not feel obliged to take part if they do not want to. This study has been reviewed and approved by the Psychology Department Ethics Committee at London South Bank University.

Hello!
I've recently come into some trouble with my rent as the landlord is insisting that i pay late fees on top of the rent that i already have to pay. I've payed this late fee for a couple months now because of universal credit coming in on the 12th of every month which is just under a week after my rent is due, so im effectively always paying the extra £35 a day until the UC or payment comes in from my self-employment. I am only having troubles now as there was an issue with my universal credit, meaning that the late fees are stacking up higher everyday to the point that im worried my UC wont be able to cover it, and ill be stuck in a loop where i wont be able to pay rent on time ever, due to the ever increasing debt.
I've looked at the tenancy agreement and literature online, to discern what i should do in this situation, as my agreement states:
"The Landlord reserves the right to charge interest (calculated from day to day) at 3% over the bank of England base rate on late payments and the landlord may recover the interest as though it were rent"
in conversation with my estate agent he's always mentioned that i cant just pay the base amount but that the late fees effectively must be payed as well. However the Tenant Fees Act of 2019, states that it can only be charged after 14 day, which it has not been.
So the situation im in, is that i can pay rent today but cannot pay the Late fees until thursday at the earliest, which then takes away options for the rent payment in June. So should i just pay the rent and question the Late fees?

I have seen plenty of posts on jobs market for IT, but wanted to share my experience on financial services and get feedback/ thoughts from others.
TLDR: London jobs market awful and I’m losing my mojo
The current jobs market in financial services, particularly project based work, is the worst I have ever seen. It trumps 2007 and 2020… I am struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I left my previous role in Q3 2023 and have not had an interview since. I am in constant contact with ex colleagues and recruiters (ie networking).
Feedback is that banks are in cost saving mode and there is no significant “driver” for transformation (eg. Regulatory change or integration). Any project work is being done with existing headcount or seeking support in niche areas like AI or ESG. Brexit and IR35 hasn’t helped. Also, London continues to attract talent from around the world.
There are plenty of candidates chasing too few roles and employers are spoilt for choice.
I am trying to keep active and take each day as it comes, but my confidence is taking a hit. My spouse and kids are in good health, but we are down to 1 income so our finances are not great, especially with CoL in London. I am early 40s where I should be at my peak earning, so feel more irrelevant as time progresses.
Looks like I need to consider more radical ideas… like retraining outside banking or taking up a speciality….

Me and my boyfriend are moving away hour away over the summer. We started the process of home buying already and we are currently home shopping
Here’s my dilemma. I want to tell NF that I’m home buying because I’m sure they’ll hear when my lendors verify my income. But, if I tell them where exactly I’m moving too (an hour away) I’m pretty sure they’ll understand that I’m not planning on staying and will eventually quit. So I could be honest and say that I’m moving an hour away and don’t plan on staying - but hey can you tell these bank ppl that I’m employed? I feel like that’s using them a little bit. Even though they’re good people, they could let me go before I find a home

TLDR: I own a share if freehold flat and the other freeholder lives abroad, is incapacitated and has no next of kin, just a legal representative appointed by a government organisation in the country she lives in. I need to sell my flat and extend the lease but two years in I have got nowhere in getting the deeds signed. What can I do?
Hi Housing UK readers,
I wanted to see if you had any fresh ideas on how to approach this situation I find myself in.
I purchased a flat in 2011. The flat is one of two in a Victorian conversion. Both flats are self-contained.
I am the sole registered leasehold proprietor of flat B and have been living in the flat since 2011.
Miss X is the sole registered leasehold proprietor of flat A, and has owned the flat since 2001. The flat is being rented as Miss X retired abroad in 2006.
Miss X and I also both own a share of the freehold, which is split 50/50.
I’m in contact with Miss X for a few years after I buy, but all admin relating to building management is dealt with by her estate agents and she defers any discussions to them.
Fast forward to September 2022. I need to sell my flat as I want to move to a different city, and have some debt I need to pay off. The flat is listed for sale in late October 2022.
There are 84 years left on the lease for both myself and Miss X. I reach out to Miss X to inform her of my plans and that I will need her signature for the various deeds, and that we should extend the lease. The email bounces back and her phone line is disconnected.
I contact the estate agents who manage flat A. They have also not heard from Miss X for a while, I can tell they know more, but they are unwilling to share any details. In a tactical move, I list my flat for sale with them too, to try and get their help with Miss X (a whole other hilarious side story). I am repeatedly assured by them that the situation with Miss X will not hinder the sale of the flat (a huge lie).
March 2023 I finally find some buyers (with another agent) and start the conveyancing process, including extending the lease and transferring the freehold.
May 2023. After chasing Miss X’s estate agents for weeks, I discover that Miss X is now incapacitated and hospitalised with dementia. Miss X has no partner or children, no next of kin and no legal representation in the UK. She is under the care of a government agency in the European country she resides in. A lawyer employed by the agency, let’s call him SP, has been appointed as her legal representative and is in contact with the UK estate agents. SP sends documents to verify his status to the agents, who confirm legitimacy via their lawyers. SP is very hard to reach, rarely answers emails or his phone.
I find a solicitor specialised in property law to help me navigate this situation. As Miss X is not deemed “absent”, the solicitor suggests that it’s best to try and resolve this with the appointed legal representative (SP), as any other legal routes available for absentee freeholders through UK courts wouldn’t apply (as we know where Miss X is). I explain the situation to SP, he talks to a judge and informs me he lacks capacity to make decisions about the leasehold and freehold matters without court / judicial approval in his country.
SP also asks for help with gaining access to Miss X’s UK bank account. All rental income from her flat in the UK is being transferred to a UK bank account via the estate agents. I share information on obtaining power of attorney in the UK and suggest it would be best to appoint a lawyer in the UK to help with all matters.
November 2023. After several months of backwards and forwards with SP to try and find out exactly what legal documents the judge wants to see in court, under his guidance my solicitor produces papers, documents and evidence, we get them translated, postilled and posted. SP is confident the judge will be happy and grant permission for signatures.
The documents make it clear that the authority being sought for SP to sign the leasehold extension and transfer of freehold are in no way prejudicial to Miss X and in fact extending the lease would add value to her property should she decide to sell in future.
A court date is set 3 months later. Sigh. More waiting.
I lose my buyers (understandably).
February 2024. The court date arrives. The judge rejects the request for permission for SP to sign papers on behalf of Miss X. It’s not fully clear why this is rejected. After speaking to SP it seems that the judge now wants SP to obtain access to Miss X’s bank account before moving forward. I am surprised that no progress has been made with that.
I go back to my solicitor. Now that we can show that steps have been taken to locate Miss X and get the deeds signed by her legal deputy without recourse, they suggest that we can apply to court in the UK to have another trustee appointed to sign the transfer and deed, and suggests appointing counsel to make the application to UK courts, which should be “run of the mill”. We choose a barrister, the situation is explained, documents shared, and I’m given a 3 week timeframe for papers to be produced for court.
In the meantime we connect SP to a solicitor in the UK who can help with obtaining PoA, as no progress has been made with that yet.
A few days later the barrister gets in touch, more bad news.
Under TLATA, there would be a breach of trust if all required consent from the current trustees was not obtained, so it is not sufficient to just add another trustee, Miss X would need to be replaced as outlined in the Trustee Act 36(1). However under the Trustee Act 36(9), where a trustee lacks the ability to perform their function, no new trustee can be appointed without consent from the Court of Protection. I am informed that making this application to the CoP is lengthy, costly and risky. The barrister says it would be faster and safer to wait for SP to obtain the relevant permissions.
We reach out to SP again to see what progress has been made. None. Some documents need to be translated and he is unwilling to pay for the translations (it seems their organisation has no money). We offer to pay now and be reimbursed once access to Miss X’s money is granted.
We are now almost half way through 2024 and coming up to 2 years into this situation.
Is it really possible that legally these are my only two options?
  • going to the UK courts at great expense in a process that has been called “risky and lengthy” by the barrister.
  • Waiting for SP to sort out PoA with no guarantee that the judge will even grant permission for the deeds to be signed (again risky and lengthy)
I know I can try and sell my flat without the share if freehold and with a short lease, but this will affect its value and the short lease especially will be a problem with mortgage applications.
Any different ideas on how to approach this? Seems so absurd that currently I can’t sell something that is mine, due to a situation I didn’t create!
There are many more twists and turns to this story but I have left them out as this is long enough. Also I do not have a legal background or am a housing expert so apologies if some of the language I use is incorrect.

Hello, I'm 24 M, and I am stuck in life and don't know how to move forward.
There is a lot of relevant backstory so sorry in advance for the book.
My father passed away when I was 3. I grew up without any quality father figure to look up to and teach me how to be a man for my family. I grew up poor and had a terrible home life riddled with abuse and hard times. Despite that, I would say I didn't turn out that bad, despite my circumstances. I have 5 siblings, of which I am the second oldest, but I usually just consider myself the oldest because my older brother is not mentally there and hasn't been for over a decade. My mother got married when I was around 17, but she just divorced my step-dad out of the blue last month and forced him out of the house. I live with my mother, younger sister, her boyfriend, youngest brother, and older brother. Around 2 months ago my older brother with some form of BPD or schizoaffective disorder started having another episode and forced his way into our house, sleeping in my room on my couch, under the guise of "us needing his help with bills" even though he doesn't pay for anything and all his money disappears as soon as he gets it. Ever since my mother divorced and my step father was forced out of the house, it has been mostly on my younger sister and I to cover the cost of everything, as we are the only ones who work. My mother has been really nasty with us, especially towards my sister and her boyfriend. My sister has been taking it badly and has gotten depressed. I have been keeping a stoic attitude and face in these trying times, and being a pillar for my younger siblings, but it is hard because there is no one for me to lean on and vent to; hence why I am here. I am stuck in a job that I can barely afford to live off of. Most days I barely eat because between paying the bills/mortgage and the cost of food now a days I can't afford it. When I do it isn't real food, mainly just ramen or some sort of frozen food. I need a car to find better employment and to escape, but can't afford to save to buy one and my bank wont give me a loan for one, because of that specific reason. My older brother is constantly having delusions and paranoia and is either constantly jumping down my throat or leaning on me for support. I mostly just go to work and let out all my emotion while there, thankfully I work overnights by myself so I don't have to worry about anyone seeing me. I don't know what to do. I was forced to grow up quick. I have always put myself last before my whole family, I sacrificed my childhood from a really early age to make sure my younger siblings had one, and in turn I now have nothing. I taught myself everything a father figure should have taught me and try to teach it to my little brother. I never had any time to develop any desirable skillset that makes me exceptionally employable. No connections or family figures that can help teach me or get a foot in the door anywhere.
I want to start my own family eventually so badly, but I have basically just became complacent with the fact that I would never amount to anything a long time ago, and I will be damned if I raise a child to be stuck in a similar or same situation I am in now. I want to move out, because I crave independence but between helping provide for my family, fearing what will happen to them if I leave and not having a very good job, it is pretty impossible. I know this is stuff that I should be telling a therapist or a life coach and not a subreddit, and I would if I could afford it, lmao.
Is there any life advice anyone that was raised in similar circumstances as me wish they knew around my age? Any advice or recomendations on how to get myself out of this hole and into a better situation would be greatly appreciated.
