I'm in need of some advice regarding my current marital situation and the potential sale of our home. To give you the full picture, I'll start from the beginning. Apologies for the length, but I feel all the details are necessary to understand the context.
I (29F) met my husband (40M) on Tinder four years ago. We dated for about eight months when my family had an opportunity to purchase a property. My then-boyfriend was also looking to be involved in a business deal of that sort, and he was interested in having his name on the property as well. My father supported this, seeing as how my boyfriend was a physician with a good income, and saw this as a way to bring him closer to our family. The opportunity came quickly, and we all signed the contract to purchase the house.
Trouble began shortly after this. My boyfriend requested that only he and I be on the title of the house, removing the rest of my family, as he saw a future with us and envisioned it as our potential family home. My father was very pleased to hear this and supported it, so we obliged. During this time, the property had increased in value, and I requested the other family members be paid off so we could buy out their shares. My boyfriend declined, feeling it was unfair.
To skim over some details, here are the highlights of the construction: My boyfriend paid more for the down payment than we initially realized would be required. Because of this, he paid no further construction costs. The construction proceeded with debt from my family until the construction loans came through. My family paid for the construction, and my father built the house for us without charging for his management services. My father was displeased with my boyfriend’s behavior and required him to pay more money for the construction due to inflation and the COVID shutdown. My boyfriend declined, and my mother and I secretly took out a line of credit to front the construction costs to my father, pretending it was from my boyfriend. Eventually, as we got the construction loans on a rolling basis after meeting construction milestones, my mother’s line of credit was paid off.

In one particularly heated fight, I told him I would go back on birth control and even purchased the pills, but he told me he would break up with me if I did because he wanted to get to know the real me. I conceded, and then something switched in me and I became excited at the possibility of having a baby. I started tracking my cycle and figuring out my ovulation days. I shared this with my fiancé, and on one of those days, we got pregnant. I didn’t find out until the end of summer 2022. My fiancé's first response was that we should wait to see if the baby sticks, and if it does, then we can plan a marriage but he wanted to wait until February 2023. I was very disappointed and angry and yelled at him. I felt alone and overwhelmed by the thought of having an illegitimate child. After discussing potentially getting an abortion, potentially breaking up, and potentially selling the house, I talked my fiancé into keeping the baby and getting married. He also wanted to keep the baby but was afraid of our situation. After many fights about when to have the wedding, we finally decided on December 2022. At that point, I was four months pregnant. During this time, my fiancé and I had major arguments that therapy couldn’t even remedy. We would yell at each other, slam doors, I would cry, and he would hold himself up in a room for hours. We had nice moments too, but they were heavily clouded over by the bad.
Finally, we got married, and things were good for a while. But then we faced some marital problems. My husband kept separate accounts and managed the finances himself. We had a joint credit card where I could pay for expenses without being questioned. He made all of the major investment decisions and major purchases. If I tried to disagree or speak up, he would get upset because this was not the submissive wife I had promised him I would be. And so it continued that my husband would invest tens of thousands of dollars into our house so that his family from out of town would visit. This included a hot tub on the rooftop, a media system in the basement, a movie projector, and much more. After said sister got married, she made it clear that she would not move to Vancouver. Then a switch happened in my husband, and he suddenly wanted to sell the house.
Meanwhile, during all this time, I had my baby, and my husband and I were still fighting more than ever. I felt no support from him, and he felt drained by his work, our fights, and being away from his family. Recently, for the past three months, he has been consistently pushing for the sale of our house. This is where my dilemma lies. I am afraid to sell this house because my husband has kept finances separate, and the mortgage on this house has been serving as a way for me to feel secure. My husband contributes a monthly amount on a regular basis. He could have forced a sale in the past but didn’t, instead paying into the monthly mortgage on top of other bills. Now, he is considering forcing the sale of our house, but I am upset that he is citing financing as the issue when I have been begging him to save money instead of spending (his response is that $200,000 does not affect a $2M mortgage, and that he now feels burnt out and wants to retire sooner and live passively). If I agree to sell, I feel unstable about moving from our home given that my husband and I fight so frequently, and I am left alone to take care of the child. It is also worth noting that my parents live right across the street and come over frequently to help with the child, or I would go over to seek their help. My husband says that he feels abandoned and uncomfortable frequently because of our proximity to my parents, but I am because there have been times when I felt truly alone, and my parents were my only solace and support. My husband would ignore me for days, especially when I was postpartum and vulnerable. My parents now see my husband as someone who doesn’t put his wife and child first. My husband says that the massive mortgage we have is too stressful for him, and he can’t take that burden. I am sad that my husband will not consider keeping this house for another three years so that I can get comfortable with the idea of selling the house and that potentially I and my family can all move to Ottawa so that we can allow my husband to be closer to his family.
I don’t know what to do at this point, Reddit. I’m currently on extended maternity leave, but it ends in six months. My husband and I will have to come to an agreement about the house, otherwise, it is likely that he will force the sale of the house even if I’m not ready to move. I’ve consistently felt rushed and overlooked in this relationship. I am tired of being the small voice that does not impact decision-making. My husband is now being nice to me and trying to show me a good time, but I see it as him turning on his charming mode so that I can say yes to the sale of this house. I’m not sure what to do. Our fights and disagreements are so bad and the marriage feels like doom sometimes (never any physical violence). I sometimes questions even staying with him, but I worry for my daughter. He is a good father to her, when he is present and off his phone.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been living in America under work visa and moved to Japan last year.
I've been doing stocks back in the States and still doing trading (on my own as a hobby). I have few stocks that qualifies for long term capital gain since I was holding it for more than one year. I know I need to pay tax when I make any profit but after reading some articles, the tax % will be based on my income. "Long-term capital gains tax rates are 0%, 15%, or 20%, depending on your taxable income."
I have been using chat gpt and it gave me this advice after sharing my situation. "For 2024, the maximum exclusion is $120,000. Your foreign earned income of $XX,XXX.XX is well within this limit, so it can potentially be excluded from U.S. taxation if you qualify for the exclusion. You will be only responsible for 15% of the net profit as the tax"
If I'm employed in Japan and not making any money in US, how do I file tax for this? Will this be a huge pain in the ass? or not a big of a deal? I am using American financial institution to trade by the way.

Here is a copy of the post that got me banned from reddit. The methodology I used to determine covid costs and excess covid costs was to take the number of daily hospitalizations from covid, multiply that by 10,000 (the daily cost of a hospital stay) and then figure out what 15% (the approximate number of uninsured/indigent) of that number is and plug those numbers in the appropriate slots. Then, you compare our current case numbers to other comparable metro areas and determine our excess cases. That would be the cost directly attributable to the terrorist response that ignored the realities of how pandemics and public health responses actually work. Regardless of blame, those numbers represent the cost to the citizens of our ongoing covid situation. Those numbers, both the gross costs of covid and the excess costs of covid. Those costs having been draining various charities over the last four years and have led directly to cutbacks in legitimate government services to the County at large. Now you can ban me or my writing, but these costs aren't going to go away and the financial mismanagement of covid, as well as debt, is leading to the financial ruin of this county.
"I'm finding out something about writing about budgets. Having eyesight good enough to pour through these figures is vital. Sadly, my eye surgery won't be until July so a real time budget analysis will simply prove too big a task for me to do well. I can cover some highlights and ask a few pertinent questions though.For starters is every Knox County employee outside of the schools really happy about taking a pay cut? This is six straight years they've gone backwards under Glenn Jacobs. While I understand that my platform which emphasized across the board raises until we got County employees up to a competitive pay level with living wages was soundly rejected, but are County employees really happy with getting screwed every single year? You have to wonder.
Second, what kind of feedback is the Sheriff's office giving about the Mayor taking back the raise that didn't even get the deputies up to professional standard? After this year, our deputies will once again be among the lowest paid officers with some of the worst benefits in the nation. I understand many of the culture problems and quality control issues in the Sheriff's department, but it's time we recognized that we get what we pay for in law enforcement. We won't provide full health insurance and we no longer have a pension for our deputies, at least not in any meaningful sense. We are just going to have to live with the quality level the Mayor is willing to fund. If all the Mayor is willing to shell out for is a group of jack-booted gestapo who depend on graft to make ends meet, then that's what we're going to get. This is still a market economy. Pay rates still determine the quality of our employees.
Third, are the teachers really going to fall for the same scam the Mayor pulled on said deputies last year? Their raise is only significant when viewed through a lens comparing it to the way Jacobs has been bending them over and screwing them for the past six years. The School Board is not only showing support for the local Nazis attempting to ban books, but now they've given the nod nod wink wink to allowing guns in schools. What kind of irresponsible self serving totalitarians can completely ignore the real long term needs and goals of our school system and just discount the need to recruit and retain teachers as superfluous. The leadership of this School Board acts completely in the interests of pursuing partisan political goals. That is the very definition of terrorism. We need dedicated public servants in the role of School Board chair, not terrorists. Unless we demand a change in philosophy, that change won't come. Partisan political goals have no place in our school system and allowing the local crypto-nazis to determine the path our schools take is definitely the wrong way to go.
When is the Mayor going to come clean on the Choto/Northshore improvements? We have not completed the projects Ragsdale started and frankly, what the County is in charge of, with the possible exception of some of the greenway work Larsen Jay has championed, that stretch of road looks like shit and is less than functional depending on the time of day.
Fourth, where is the covid response money at in this budget? Last week we averaged ten patients a day in the hospital with covid at an uninsured rate of somewhere north of 15%. That works out to 15,000 a day or over five million a year in indigent covid costs. This is a week when covid is under control. We currently are looking at less than eight weeks a year at this rate. We have roughly the same number of weeks at ten times that amount, so we are looking at about 35-50 million a year in uninsured covid costs and the fed has cut the money off to cover them. Our response to covid thus far has been about 20-100% worse than comparable cities who had a real covid response meaning the direct costs of Jacobs irresponsible incompetence in this area alone will cost the county between 10-20 million.
You folks want to know where your raises went? Jacobs took them when he refused to mitigate covid and entrenched us at a disease rate that has kept us at pandemic levels longer than any other like sized city in America. I use Madison Wi. as the city I compare to. Compare for yourself.What I am struggling with though, is where is Jacobs hiding this expenditure. We know he's paying for his covid policy rather than give the raises these loyal employees are earning, but where is he hiding it in the budget? That is the question. The figure I found for indigent care came to less than 250,000 a year. Where is the rest of these tens of millions? Is he just forgoing the County's fiduciary responsibilities and dumping these costs on us as consumers with higher charges for medical care and health insurance? It's time to pay the piper. We knew there would be long term implications to our covid response, and there are. The issue is that by not being upfront about these costs the Mayor Jacobs is doing nothing more than perpetrating a fraud against the citizens of Knox County and just stealing money outright from every single one of us.

I’m an only child, 24F. My mother died when I was 16, and my father died the day after I turned 24. We were the simplest family, eating three meals a day, happy and living like a not-so-perfect family, but it was perfect for me. They weren’t strict and could support whatever I wanted and provide what I needed, but they would explain if it was beyond our budget. Our occasions and holidays were full of joy. I used to get excited when we bought a cake, even just a roll from Red Ribbon (triple chocolate). Most of my memories with my parents were wonderful, and it felt like we never had problems aside from financial issues sometimes because we were just an average family.
That’s why I want someone to explain to me why I became an orphan. Why did my parents have to suffer from the illnesses they had? I was their princess, but now I feel like someone lost in an unknown place.
What’s very painful is that I didn’t even get to graduate from college. I have no money to start anything because my parents didn’t have savings or even insurance. I didn’t inherit a house because we had been renting all this time. We didn’t have a business either. I have no siblings because I’m an only child. I have nothing since my father left me. But I’m at least thankful for my boyfriend because he took care of me. I’ve become dependent on him; he never obliged me to work because he said he could provide for me. As the title says, I’m 21(f) with what feels like no leads to a promising future. I previously have worked at a deli for 2 years but I chose to leave for something better. I’ve been searching for a job now for 6 months. In my time being unemployed I got in great physical shape, I really enjoyed rock climbing and hiking and having great nutrition. It’s been nice having this free time even if it was unintentional. But as kids my age are starting to graduate college I’m finding myself feeling inferior. I chose not to go to college because it felt like a waste of money. I have no idea what I want to do so how could I possibly choose a degree that locks me into a career path. I have great artistic talent and many skills for drawing, sculpting, painting, weaving, sewing, and more! But I’ve Been depressed since I was 15 and have been going to therapy for 5 years and I still find it difficult to do these hobbies and work on these skills that I’m good at. I feel that I have so much potential! But I’m so exhausted from this mental battle that it leaves me feeling hopeless. I want so badly to find my niche career wise, but I live in a small rural town that’s nearly devoid of opportunity. Im so grateful for all that I have, and I’m young with a long rode ahead. However, I just can’t kick this feeling of not knowing what to do, this inferiority complex, and overall just not wanting to disappoint my parents. Hi, I’m (20) and I live with my dad (75) and sister. My sister and I share a room she’s (15). Every year before I turn 18 my dad would receive $500 dollars from the government for me and another $500 for my sister. I started working when I was 17 and I cover all of my expenses, my dad used all the money and bought a house where we don’t feel at home since he had rent most of the space leaving my sister and I having to share rooms. Last year my dad started asking me for rent, I had to pay him $400. Again I don’t have my own room, he expects me to come home before 11, and has a couple more rules. I got in a lot of debt because I was only making $1500 a month and I pay all of my expenses including gas, bills, car insurance ($250), and my groceries. But apart from that I was going through some medical issue and had a lot of medical debt.
My dad didn’t care and he keeps asking me for rent, even though every year when we do taxes they put my sister as my dependent so he can get tax money ( my dad is retired and he doesn’t work) I’m not sure what to do here because I don’t feel like is fare for me to pay so much rent while I don’t have privacy, my own space or can’t even come home late. I currently make 2,500 which is much more than before but rent is very expensive and I don’t think I can’t afford it.
I want an apartment with bathroom and kitchen since I will bring my mom here hopefully by next year, but they rent those for about 1,700 to 2,500 a month… what could I do in this situation? Do you think I’m being difficult and should just pay the $400 dollars?

We will see how dirty and double cut it actually is, but I've been on the hunt for this all spring. Haven't found any, even to order, and then BOOM! Free local-ish fleece (I'm in Nederland, and it's under half an hour.. To them most Dutch that's not local, but as an American? I have to tell you no matter how many decades I live here, that'll still be local lol).
Even if only a small portion of it is usable that's still a win, because I've got some alpaca which needs blended with something soft and squishy to add memory and durability.. And I have an unfortunate shed full of fleeces which sat, stored improperly, because of illness which I'm about to have to discard. I'm not exactly on the mend, but I am well enough to want to proces fleece, and thinking about what I'm gonna have to compost and throw out was making me sulk. So now I'm getting a happy!
