2024.05.14 00:41 RomeG10 Account Lost
I''m posting here to see if I could get in contact with a dev regarding my hacked account.
A couple of days ago, I woke up to an email stating that my verification login was turned off. I was sick at that moment and couldn't bring myself to see what was happening. Fast forward 5 hours later, my email, EAID, phone number, and password were all changed. I tried contacting EA about it, but they couldn't do anything. They wanted to send me a verification code to verify the ownership of the account on the new email the hacker had put on, which I wouldn't receive. I have been creating unlimited cases to get them to put a restriction on the account since the other person started playing on it. Who knows if they're not cheating on it? But EA customer service agents kept telling me they would pass the info to their devs, and three days later, I can still see the account active on Apex Tracker. I'm writing this to see if any dev lurking on this sub would be able to help. Note that the online team asked me six questions, of which five were correct because I don't have access to the original email, which I couldn't access since I had to get a new Gmail due to a password issue. My EA ID is Capt_rg The Apex Tracker link is:

Everytime I go to log in it has me do the verification prompt of, “Do you trust this device?”, followed by issuing a number I need to verify by matching from a choice of three numbers in my Gmail app. I don’t even have 2FA on my Google account. Anybody know how to stop this from happening?

2024.05.14 00:36 Substantial_Plate993 Is this fair?
My friend posted here on October 2023, just after her Upwork account was suspended.
70-80% of the people here left hateful comments, accusing her of doing something wrong or cheating, and pretending not to know what happened. This really upset me because she was looking for support from fellow Upwork freelancers but got the opposite instead.
The problem is once your account is suspended, you're muted. You can't make your voice heard anywhere... you're ignored.
I created 3-4 posts on Upwork community on behalf her. The moderators gave copy-paste replies and closed the threads. They didn't allow other freelancers to comment.
Anyway, after 4-5 months (I guess on March 2024) of trying to reach Upwork support, my friend finally got a reply about the suspension. While you could say they were right to suspend her account, I don't think it was fair or ethical.
The reason was having multiple accounts.
At first, we didn't understand because she only had one account. Then, after digging a bit, she remembered that she had created her first account on 2018 (or earlier than that) just to check out Upwork. But then she never used it.
We met on 2020, and I was a 2 years Upwork freelancer. I told her that she can start Upwork, it's really good etc. She got motivated and created an account.
Over 3 years, she became Top-rated Plus and start to make a living. And as a side hustle, she started to teach Upwork to newbies.
Then, on September or early November 2023, there was a client requesting a full refund over a partially completed project. It was not fair to give a full refund. She recommended to give a partial refund for the incompleted part. However, client did not agreed which led to a dispute. Then both party provided the documents, screenshots etc. And client accepted the partial refund. The next day her account was suspended.
Because she had another account created some years ago although it was never used and never logged in after few days of creation.
Of course, Upwork TOS says that having multiple account is not allowed. But that account was never used and there was nothing intentional. I am sure it's pretty basic to check her login records of that account.
As mentioned above, after 4 months, someone from Upwork support told her the reason of suspension and told that they are willing to help and asked the account that she wants to be reinstated. She told the main account. Then they replied, they will get back, if not follow up with us.
After 10-15 follow up emails and few months no one replied back.
Not sure how to end this. Just wanted to share this fu*ked up story.

2024.05.14 00:11 krusty-krab-pizza1 iPhone Configuration Guide w/ Checklist
A month or so ago I busted my phone, and it was a huge pain in the ass. Aside from some lost data which was minor, the biggest PIA was resetting MFA, getting in touch with my US banks, and any other services that were tied to my phone. The experience also made me take a step back and realize I am pretty lax with security, and if someone had gotten hold of my phone and somehow god-forbid gotten the passcode, then I'd be fucked. They could do so much damage with unlimited access to my email + MFA SMS, even in just a few hours.
As a result, I kind of went down the ADHD rabbit hole hyper-fixating on how best to "optimize" my iPhone and iCloud configuration for two things:
- If it breaks, the transition to a new device will be relatively painless. I won't have to spend several days stressing and trying to find the right international customer support number for a myriad of institutions and services to get into my accounts.
- If it gets stolen and compromised, then there will be enough barriers such that the I'll have enough time to lock down the device and/or my accounts remotely before the thief can get key data or move funds.
So I put together this guide and checklist that I thought I'd share with others. I am a programmer but by no means a security guru, and so if any IT, DevOps, or SecOps folks want to chime-in with suggestions or improvements, please do.
Requirements
- an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone SE (2nd generation), and iPhone 14 or newer for eSIM compatibility.
- a US-based carrier with eSIM support + a pay-as-you-go model for international travel (I use Verizon)
- iOS 17 or above (may not be strictly necessary, but I know my setup works with iOS 17.4.1)
- a password manager. I personally use 1Password because it works, is reliable, has cross-device support, and is easy and intuitive. It's also only $3/month.
Dual Sim Setup
I have been rocking an iPhone 12 for the past few years, and it's served me very well. I know the newer iPhones (14 and up) no longer offer physical SIM card support, but carriers in most developing countries are behind the curve. Even if they offer eSIM support, it's been my experience that it's a major headache to get setup, there is a lack of customer support in English, and they may even require a local ID to register the eSIM. It's way easier to just head to a shop and pay $5 for a SIM card, load some funds onto it, and then you're good to go.
The eSIM has been very helpful for maintaining a US phone number for which I can receive SMS texts from my banks and other financial services as well as continue to use iMessage with all my US contacts since hardly anybody is on Whatsapp.
Most, if not all, carriers in the US support eSIMs now, and so you should try to find a carrier that offers an international pay-as-you-go plan. Verizon offers two international plans - one is a "Travel Pass" where it's a flat fee of $10/day anywhere outside the US or Canada (even for just one text message). The other is "pay for what you use" which has a rate per text, minute, and mb. For my US plan, I only care about receiving SMS texts from my banks and the occasional phone call to a service that doesn't have an international, toll-free number. Data will always be cheaper outside the US, so I disable cellular data switching for my US line.
The last time I was in the US was for the holidays and I bought 2 used iPhone 12's for about $200 each. They have some scuffs, but they're perfectly serviceable. In LATAM, it also doesn't attract nearly as much unwanted attention in the street as an iPhone 14 or 15.
I brought these with me as extra devices. When my phone busted last month, thankfully I had a backup in iCloud and everything was loaded in a few minutes as normal. This was before I was using the eSIM, but if I had the eSIM I could just go to Verizon support online via chat and they could help me switch the line to the new device easily.
Basic Configurations
- Always use the latest version of firmware
- Require a passcode that's unique to that device.
- Use FaceID instead of passcode when possible (a thief can't snipe your passcode from a distance if you unlock your phone with FaceID)
- Set auto-lock to 30 seconds (lowest possible)
- Erase data upon excessive passcode failures note, this is complemented in a later step with daily backups. The odds of you putting in the wrong passcode 10 times is low, but in the event you do and you wipe the device by accident, you should be able to easily load in a back-up from the previous day)
- Turn off "Ask to Join Networks"
- Forget unused networks so that you don't rejoin automatically (airports, hotels, etc.)
Creating Backups
- Set iCloud backups to run automatically every night. This will allow you to load your entire phone as is (contacts, call history, iMessages, apps, even your wallpaper) onto another device during setup. The iCloud backup usually runs at 2am while I'm sleeping.
- You may need to pay for a higher tier in iCloud if you have too much stored on your phone. It's $3/month for 200gb of iCloud storage, and I find it worth it. Though I know some people with tens of thousands of photos for which 200gb might not be enough.
Password Policy
- For any accounts that may contain sensitive data (payments, PII, etc), always generate a unique password with 1Password. Don't reuse passwords. Same goes for PIN codes.
- For core accounts, create a strong but memorable password and then memorize it. The odds of getting locked out of 1Password are low if you're diligent, but for 2 or 3 core accounts (where you access money, your primary recovery email, your iCloud, 1Password), it's worth it to create strong, unique passwords for each core service and memorize them.
- I try not to reuse passwords in general, but I still sometimes am lazy and use one of my handful of typical passwords if there's no sensitive data collected by the service and it's a service I don't use often.
MFA
Set up MFA with everything. Add multiple options if possible. My preferred MFA options are as follows:
- One-time code that renews every 30 seconds. This is device agnostic and can be stored in 1Password. You could also use Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy or similar, but there's just more overhead to now recover those accounts if your device becomes inaccessible.
- One-time code to recovery email.
- One-time code via SMS to my US phone number. On the pay-as-you-go Verizon plan, I only pay 5 cents per text message received. It's worth it to keep one consistent number.
- List of recovery codes (stored in 1Password as an attached txt file for the given account)
- Use another app for verification (Google does this a lot).
Lockdown your iCloud security
- Enable MFA.
- Create a strong, unique password.
- Remove any old or unused devices from the iCloud account (old phones, ipods, etc).
- Enable "Find My" for all of your devices.
- In Find My, configure all devices to send the last known location.
- In Find My, enable the configuration to remotely wipe a device.
In the event your phone is stolen, the idea is you could run back to any of your devices or even use a friend's device to log into iCloud on the web, go to Find My, and then in a single button click you can lock and wipe the stolen device. If the thief turned off the device or disabled wifi/cellular, then as soon as it comes back online it will be wiped.
Final Clean-Up
- Move any compromising photos to the "hidden" folder (which requires FaceID or passcode to unlock)
- Review the Files app for any documents containing sensitive info. If you need these documents to be accessible on mobile, then move them to 1Password and delete them from the Files app.
- Create a shortcut to trigger the lock screen (and thus require FaceID or passcode) when specific apps are opened (banking, email, photos, etc).
- Not sure if this is best practice, but I just keep everything in 1P and turn off apple keychain and the apple built-in password manager. I also don't save passwords in Chrome or Safari.
Extra tips
These aren't really iPhone tips but general tips. They are probably obvious to you if you aren't as scatterbrained as me, but I figured that I'd drop them here in case they help someone.
- Add thorough security measures to iCloud, primary email, and any banking or financial services. Review each account and make sure you have a strong, unique password as well as a unique PIN, MFA configured, login alerts, recovery codes, and an international, 24-hour toll-free phone number stored somewhere to contact the service in the event of a crisis. For banking services, add withdrawal limits, regional restrictions (if you bounce between the same few countries), and SMS notifications for charges over a certain threshold. Open up a second checking account with a separate debit card for trips to the ATM.
- Consolidate and close any unused bank accounts. I realized that on my phone I had Revolut, Venmo, Paypal, Nequi, plus 4 US banking institutions. I took this time to close my Discover account (which is pretty much useless outside the US anyway), close my Revolut account since I'm hardly ever in the UK/EU, and consolidate investment accounts from different institutions into just a handful that's easier to monitor.

2024.05.13 23:51 PickFabulous3380 Help getting in contact with WellHub
My company recently joined Well Hub. I went to make an account and their system says I already have an account. When I go to verify my company participates, the system send me the 4 digit code, but when I go to do the password reset, the system email is not sending. When I try to ask the support assistant if it can help me login, it prompts me to login... Is there a phone number I can call or anyway I can get Well Hub to respond?

2024.05.13 23:46 Nico3d3 Windows 11: slow transition from login screen to desktop
So, I'm wondering why the transition from login screen to desktop is so slow in my Windows 11. I have a Ryzen 7900x with 32gb of RAM and a 970 EVO Pro SSD. I think it qualify for being a nice machine. Also, there's not many programs loading on startup. I only have NvidiaDisplayContainer and Mozilla Maintenance Service. Yet, it always take around 5-8 seconds if it's the first login after a reboot. What I tried to mitigate the issue: I changed my online MS account to a local accout but, it doesn't seem to help

2024.05.13 23:45 Little_Swordfish_793 My boss fired me and owes me $4k+ What are my next steps?
LONG STORY SHORT: I had a terrible human being for a boss. I wouldn’t get paid on time. He avoids TX workforce commission, writes bad checks to dealerships while owing them close to 100k, avoids certified mail and Is being sued in different states. I’m owed $4k+, I’ve been emailing and have gotten no update. What is my next step besides TX Workforce Commission. I’m a young single mother so I don’t have much to spend on a good attorney.
I got hired by a family member (they’re not the owner, they were the manager) in October 2023 to learn and train to be a collision estimator. I ended up playing a lot of roles in the company. I was a CSR, Office manager, service advisor and still training to be a collision estimator. The owner is a nightmare. He believes he’s above everybody, belittles you, blah blah literally a psychopath and many people agree, it’s not just me.
When it was time for my first paycheck, the owner of the company, we’ll call him Bob, called and apologized and explained he would have to pay me late, he explained this had only happened 3x before in his 20+ years in the industry. 🚩I let him know it was fine as he said he would pay me the following week. This pattern kept repeating on and on except the next times he wouldn’t call us to let us know instead he would leave early that Friday so we wouldn’t ask about pay. I was sticking it out bc I was getting paid fairly well and I am a young single mother who was still trying to learn my way into the industry.
It kept getting worse, at points I was owed two pay periods. I would have to go to him in person and ask for money, he would then ask me how much I needed (uh probably my whole check?) he would then Zelle me whatever amount he could.
A part of my job was to “harass” insurance companies for payment on vehicles that had just left the shop (that’s not how it works). He would have me call them multiple times a day, send emails, etc. All of my coworkers, all much older men who have been in the industry longer than I’ve been alive told me not to listen to him and not do that as it would cost us our relationship with insurance. I knew when, how and the exact amount of money we were getting in. By my last week, I noticed he was lying about what payments were coming in.
Other little things I would blow off are now super bright red flags. Past employees were calling about not receiving their W-2 (it was the last day to turn them in) and the “accountant” wasn’t an actual accountant. She didn’t know what she was doing. They would also mention they hadn’t received their last paycheck from the previous year! They explained how the Texas workforce was calling and this “accountant” would purposefully ignore their calls. She is notorious for this. They would team up and I guess ignore calls from anyone he owed money to. I had dealerships calling multiples times a day to get a hold of her, even though I know she was in her office. Some of these dealerships he owes close to 100k. He started writing bad checks upon delivery of parts. Some of these dealerships caught on and would no longer accept checks from this company.
Since I was in the front desk most deliveries would come to me, including certified mail, I would sign for it then deliver it to him. He told me that I shouldn’t do that and that certified mail is always bad news. 🚩
Anyways fast forward to a few weeks ago, I’m fed up I have no energy for this BS anymore. Then I go into work, the family member who hired me lets me know he got into it with Bob the day before and he let him go and let’s him know he can’t afford him anymore. In reality it’s because he let Bob know he doesn’t care about Bob getting sued in a different state and he doesn’t care what he has going on he just needs his money, over $10k owed. He lets me know I’m probably next. Fast forward a few hours, I can’t login into my software. I confront him he says he will give me a temporary password. Go back to my desk, I realize I don’t have my charger. I use my laptop charger and Bob asked for it the week prior saying his computer wasn’t working. I see a coworker giving another new hire my stuff and I ask for it. This guy is a yes man and says oh no Bob told me to give it to him take it up with him. Bob ends up coming into the space we are at and asks why I need, I tell him. He says no and we start getting into it. He ends up firing me and saying I need to give him the company phone I have. I say I’ll give it to him when I receive my paycheck. He says that’s called stealing he’ll report it stolen. I tell him I don’t care and that what he’s doing is stealing as well. He ends up calling the police. I talk to the sheriff, he tells me he can’t make him pay me any money just as he can’t make me give up the phone, but from his own personal experience it would be better in court if it shows I don’t have any company property. I hand it over with the condition I’m given a paper showing exactly how much I’m owed. He was able to get that for me. Now I’m emailing and calling and not getting any update as to when I’m getting paid. What’s the next step?

Title says it all.
Created a new Reddit account and trying to try out Narwhal and it isn’t letting me sign in with my login that works on the main app.
Is this somehow related to my account being new?
EDIT: Error is simply saying ‘Something went wrong’, and I’ve since been able to sign in on Safari on my iPhone & Mac
EDIT 2: Also saying invalid username/password, despite me using a password manager that autofills perfectly on the web & main app
Also on the free trial if this affects things

2024.05.13 23:26 rickd972 A few Fidelity security questions
| I regularly use my iphone to log into fidelity; even once in a while get the notice to "verify" logins from a browser. yet when I look at my trusted devices; I do not see the iphone - see below. Related: I usually get a text code to verify 2FA and only sometimes asked to verify via the fidelity mobile app. Is there any way to force a push to one or more mobile devices with face id or pin as the primary 2nd authentication? Lastly regarding Money Transfer Lockdown: I regularly use this and when I want to transfer money from account to account will temporarily unlock in order to complete the transaction. Is there any risk to the frequency of turning on/off lockdown mode? I'd hate for my proactive approach to be considered a risk by some Fidelity algorithm. 2024.05.13 23:00 Ayshe27 Microsoft 365 subscription that I am not able to cancel or log into the account
I got a bill from MS for Office 365 subscription. It has another company name on the bill . I called these numbers dozens of times: 800-865-9408, 206-429-9176 and 877-913-2707. In most cases, I am connected to an advocate. She/he connects me to cancellations, music starts playing, and that goes on and on, then "click:, and I am disconnected.
It is a catch 22. I cannot login to the admin center, either. There is no way to cancel the subscription. I am disgusted with Microsoft.
I blocked payment from the credit card, but I don't want this scam account to be associated with me in any shape or form.
