It's almost four in the morning and Seth is threatening suicide again. Good. Fuck him. I hope he does it. I don't text him that because I read about this girl who told her boyfriend to kill himself. The irony was that when he actually did it she got charged with second degree murder. My life is fucked as it is I don't need to make it worse. It's almost two in the morning and I have to be up for school in a few hours. I’m shivering under my comforter because we’re halfway through November. I think about the turkey that won't get made this year and the family I won't see. I think that's swell. Seth is still texting.

I know he's not sleeping in his room, he fell asleep on the couch after finishing his seventh fifth. Sometimes my brain fills in the gaps so I can hear it everywhere. Funnily, I haven't actually heard him snore since Mom left. That's the one thing I ever heard them fight about. Before she turned out to be a whore, I guess. BZZT.BZZT.BZZT. I can't bring myself to read any of his messages. They're coming so fast all the paragraphs are lost to motion blur. Seth’s arms wrap around me and I think about the beating of his heart and the warmth of his lips against my skin. I open up the texts, ready to respond.

Davis was the only senior on the bus. Somehow, everyone else had a car or a ride. It’s all right, though. James would probably give him one if he had a car, but he skated to school every morning. That's why he barely ever rode the bus with him. The bus thumped along the under paved roads. Davis forgot his earbuds at home, so the only music that accompanied him was his racing thoughts. Two sophomore girls popped their heads over. “Ohmigod, Davis!” One of them shrieked.. “As I live and breathe,” he smiled. “Nice,” she said. “I’m so excited to see your finished painting.” Davis took the lower level art class for a requirement. Like most things, he's not taking it very seriously. For their pop art unit, he's painting a portrait of the art teacher with a warthog face. It's one of his funny disruptions. He knows Mrs. Stanley is going to have a real field day with it, but it doesn't matter. Artistic liberties, he’d profess. “She's such a bitch, isn't she?” The sophomore girl turns to her compatriot, who only nods in response. “She's just jealous,” Davis says. “It must be depressing to teach art and see the youth soar above her.” “For sure,” the girl doesn't get it. Class clown is a semi-heavy burden. Davis doesn't really feel like talking to these girls, but his position demands it. Comedy informs everything about him. To the giant thrift store jeans, to the loud Hawaiian shirt. He and James are the ultimate combination, at least he likes to think so. Quiet brooding begs for bright distraction. The girl is still trying to talk to him and Davis is saying his preprogrammed lines. The bus stops in front of James’s street. Davis’s smile is genuine now, but he fights it from getting too wide. “Crash your vehicle?” Davis asks. “Something like it,” there's something off with him. Davis doesn't want to push it. “Well damn, hope insurance covers it,” Davis wants James to break and laugh. Is it just another mood or did something actually happen this time? “It won't, I got bad credit,” James grins and it's like heaven. “What's the move for you today?” “Surviving art and physics for me,” says Davis. “Those bastards love to keep me down.” “Who doesn't,” James eyes the girls who have since returned to whatever they were doing before. It's the judgement stare, as Davis calls it. James likes to observe his peers like a zoo-goer. Breaking them down to taxonomic types. Davis likes to think that James doesn't do this to him, but he knows he probably does. “It sucks you decided to be bad at school and take baby art,” James is still dissecting the sophomore girls down to their tropes. “We could have done Art II together.” “I wouldn't want to get between you and Alex. I know how you love it when people piss in jars next to you.” “That's disgusting,” James breaks his glare at the girls. “It's performance art, it's beautiful,” Davis gets up out of his seat to yell. “Everyone witness the wonderful work of Alex Madov! Disengage yourself from the shackles of capitalism by shouting with me: Poopy, pee pee, poop!” Davis gets a few chuckles from the other kids on the bus. “Sit down, fatso,” mumbles the bus driver. “I will not be silenced! I’m a messenger of the good word, sir!” “More of this shit and I’m skipping your stop!” “Fine, but I will make Alex remember on the day of judgement,” Davis sits back down. James is full belly laughing. “You're so retarded,” James wheezes. Davis can't even come back with a response. He's high off of it.
The bus pulls into the school lot with a short stop. The mobs get up and begin to race out. Davis follows James down the line. “You know Abbi?” James asks. Davis feels a little pit form in his stomach, but he doesn't change his expression. “Vaguely, what about her?” “She's in my art class,” James begins. “And I think … well you know, I’m going to talk to her.” He walks down the steps and out the door. “Doesn't she have a boyfr-” before Davis can descend the driver's arm blocks him. “I’ve had enough of your shit, kid,” he says. “If you keep being obnoxious, I’m gonna find a way to make you pay for it.” James looks back, but he can't stay. Davis knows that he's gotta get to class. James does a little wave goodbye and Davis salutes him. “Are you even listening to me?” the bus driver seethes. “Yes, sir. Divine retribution, got it.” Davis ducks underneath his arm and exits the bus. James has already disappeared into the crowd.

I’m so engrossed that I don't realize her tip out the bowl and put it back in the cup holder. “I don't know if it's wise to keep up the activity, we should probably get going soon,” she starts up her car again. “Okay,” I say. She reverses and swings out of the lot. We lean into the silence and it's super weird. “Seth texted me last night,” I wait for her reaction. “Oh,” she grimaces. “What did you say?” “That I loved him.” Silence again. Ashley's trying to put together something well-meaning while understanding that I’ll probably ignore whatever she has to say. “Abbi, I’m not trying to tell you how to run your life, but …” Her expression is now quizzical. She's said what she is about to say a number of different ways all ready. She thinks and thinks and decides to say nothing. Good call, I would have screamed at her. Not because what she thinks about my situation isn't true, I’m just in a ‘screaming at people mood’ because of it. “I’m going to dye my hair again,” she changes the subject to avoid conflict. Classic Ash. “Oh yeah? What color this time?” “I don't know,” she checks her reflection in the rear view. “The red has faded out, maybe blue or pink this time.” “You should go with a softer pink,” I say. “Since you're a soft spring.” “Yeah, maybe.” We enter the school lot. “Listen, do you want to get together when I do it? Maybe you can dye your hair too.” “I don't know, I might be busy,” I say. “Seth might want to do something,” I pause for her to protest. “Okay,” she says. She parks and we get out.
I barrel into art class. I don't care if I reek, out of all the teachers I can tell Mrs. Stanley smokes the most. It would be hypocritical of her to care. It looks like I’m the first one. Weird. I check my phone. It's 8:45. Well, fuck. Looks like Ashley needs to fix her clock. Mrs. Stanley is at her desk. She looks at me knowingly. “Eager to create today, Abbi?” I just nod and sit at my desk. I’m really feeling it. I open up my precalc notebook and just start sketching. Birds, eyes, trees, whatever. Kids start coming in. Their chatter echoes around me, I try to focus on what I’m doing. Someone bumps into my table. I look up. It's this lanky blonde kid, I think his name is James. He presses his hands underneath the desk as he leans up to talk to me. “Eww!” He shouts. Some kids turn and laugh. I don't. I just stare at him. Believe it or not he's getting much better marks than you are getting in here.” Jason rolls his eyes and takes his place in the chair next to me. “Up to a little extra curricular activities before art, Abbi?” he motions a joint in his fingers. I start to respond, but before I can Mrs. Stanley outstretches her hand. “Give me your phone, Miss Hagerty. I don't have any friends here. I toy around with the idea of asking Jason for convenience and he looks like he's about to pull that move. Behind me there's that James guy. He’s sheepishly looking at me. He seems kind of nice. Okay. I don't feel like getting up so I just turn around in my chair. “Hey James, wanna be partners?” He balks a bit and then smiles at me. “Yeah, totally,” He's beaming and it's somewhat endearing. Like he's trying to piece me together. It doesn't bother me. “She said we have to bring in an object that's special to us and present it artistically basically,” he rubs his chin. Damn, I must be baked to hell. I didn't hear her saying that at all. “So got any stuffed animals we can cut up and make Lovecraftian monstrosities out of?” “I got a hamster cage, hold the hamster,” I say. It comes out kind of weird and I probably sound stupid, but he doesn't seem to care. “Let's make a fucking zoo.” “Perfect!” He’s kind of cute actually. In a way. Something about this feels fun. I realize the bell will ring soon. “So um,” I rip out a page of my precalc notebook, still fresh with my drawings. I scrawl out my number and push it to him. “Call me so we can figure out the project some more.” I pack up all my stuff and start to head out. I can feel him watching me and it's not that bad. “I sure will,” he says. Everything feels really groovy. There's a lightness now. I’m halfway out the door when I remember my phone. I can't believe that I just forgot about Seth. I think about begging for my phone, but I feel too above that. Still, something shakes the good feeling as the bell rings.

Hi everyone.
So i created a homebrew city and filled it with quests and npc's. Once here, players have a main quest that eventually will lead them out of said city, once they are done with it. Players are already aware of a world outside the walls, so its not like i can just turn the campaign upside down and suddenly start playing dragon heist.
Having said that, i filled the city with side quests, promise of gold and magical item rewards, while the main quest seems bare in terms of rewards, and its only "the right thing to do" Yet players keep ignoring the baits i throw at them. I literally threw a quest hook at them, by throwing a magical gem with direct connection to the pc character, and its left to the side. This was also relayed on top of the table, but players just dont know when these quest will come, with some of them having ties later on, while some are already out there for players to complete if they choose, they just dont.
Im coming to a point now where i sorted expected the party to take on this content, in order to inflate this quest area, and make it seem more alive and complex. They are instead running through it at light speed, making my campaign feel smaller, less spetacular and bare.
Would it be fair on the party for clues for the main quest to suddenly drop, in order for them to engage in side objectives, knowing that the trail will resurface once they dive a bit more towards the city? Or should i take this as player choice, and send them towards areas i know they will be outmatched cause they skipped content that would help them?

I've always tried to be nice to them because they seem harmless, but I don't think the people behind them are harmless.
And even if they are being deceived, they have the same problem as the people who blindly follow science. They see the world in black and white terms. Either its 100 percent true or its 100 percent fake.

These past couple months of my life have been transformation, but exhausting. I recently lost my grandfather to a terminal illness, the man who supported me in countless ways and really brought our family together when he first got sick. His death was crippling for the first couple weeks, but I have since been able to see that his suffering coming to an end is worth more than the rest of us having him still with us on earth. His passing put a lot of things in perspective, including my deep rooted unhappiness in my long term relationship and my unhealthy relationship with substances. Throughout this time, I lost a number of friends to the breakup, many of which led with the whole "bros before hoes" mentality, so much so that not a single one of them reach out when my grandfather did eventually die, and I had never felt so alone. In the mean time, I was able to grow very close with a group of coworkers my age, all in their twenties. On nights where all I wanted to do was get drunk and ignore my problems, they would drive me out to the dam and sit and listen to me sob about how I felt like I wasted the last couple months of my grandfather's life getting drunk with people who threw me away when I didn't want to party any more, all in the name of distracting myself from his inevitable death. They stepped up to the plate when I broke up with my ex and he lost his mind thinking I was a horrible person for not wanting him to come to my grandfather's funeral and just wanting to be alone instead of in a relationship where I was doing so much heavy lifting for little payout. I also had to come to terms with the fact that my ex and I only ever had sex when we were drunk because I really didn't enjoy it, but there was one time where he blacked out and didn't even remember us sleeping together. During that encounter, I had begged him to stop, but he couldn't hear me I guess, and he kept going until he finished and I just laid there and cried while he passed out next to me. I now know that was rape, but in the moment I felt like I did something wrong. That period of my life was so fucking hard, but I made it with the help of some awesome people and newfound sobriety.
Among the group of coworkers was Jack (25m). However, this convo made it very clear that he wanted to go those four times we tried, but he was informed by Alyssa that he was a selfish bastard for wanting to go out without her and she felt like he hated her so much that he was trying to use work as an excuse to leave her alone. I can't make this up). He started crying about how he felt like a maid, like a doormat that she walked all over and how he wished he had never moved up here, how every time he tried to break up with her she threatened to kill herself and he couldn't live with the thought of being responsible for her death. Tony let Jack know that none of that behavior was okay, and we as a group talked about what Jack really wanted to do with his life and what was holding him back. Shortly after, Jack broke up with Alyssa, who once again threatened to kill herself, got violent with him, and blamed him for throwing in the towel when she did nothing wrong. Tony gave Jack a room in apartment to stay in when it became clear that Alyssa would attack Jack anytime he was home, and he officially moved out within the week. Our coworkers all banded together to make sure he had furniture for his new room, bought him a dresser and a bed frame and we each took our cars over to his old place to move him out. It took a village, but he now has a safe apartment of his own with Tony and he has repeatedly thanked us all for letting him fall apart without judgement. A few months later, my grandfather passed and I was shown the same love by our little group. I have some amazing coworkers.
I was sitting next to Jack in the back of Tony's truck when I got the call my grandfather died. In that moment, it became clear that he really did care about me, and I am so grateful that he was there for me even when I swore I didn't need anyone. This all happened shortly after my breakup and newfound sobriety, so I was an absolute mess, but Jack didn't care. He and I fell apart and helped each other try to stitch together new lives at the expense of our old ones. He and I hooked up one night months after I was single and felt slightly more in control of my emotions, and after doing that a couple more times, we started dating five months ago.
Now here comes the kicker. Jack has made some shitty choices in the past that I did not know about until we got together. Apparently, he had cheated on one of his exes at college, and when he and Alyssa first got together, he had been sleeping with two other girls who he cut things off with pretty suddenly when he got the chance to sleep with Alyssa, then they started dating a few weeks later. There are a number of girls that he kinda fucked over before the age of twenty, but he doesn't talk to any of them anymore and knows that he was in the wrong for all of them. Growth, I hope. I found out that he was still somewhat connected to one of them, and when I told him how worrisome that made me, he immediately apologized for not realizing earlier how that would make me uncomfortable and quickly (per his own volition) let her know that he did not want to continue talking because he felt it was clear she only really wanted to sleep with him and she had very little respect for his monogamous relationships. She flipped shit and he was glad that he was able to cut ties because apparently that wasn't the first time she tried to guilt trip him into staying in touch with her. But mostly, Alyssa has become a fairly constant fixture in our relationship. Because they had a dog together, Jack has to ask Alyssa when he can go over there to see the dog. She only does it on her terms, which is understandable, but she will constantly blame him for not taking care of the dog (Tony has two cats, and while Tony wants Jack to take the dog to their apartment, he doesn't think the cats would feel safe and they are already very skittish). She texts him biweekly saying that she found something of his, like a box of ties, a thing of utensils, etc, and demands he come get them and walk the dog asap. More than once, she has called him early in the morning asking him to come over because something is wrong with the dog, but most recently she called at 7 am saying "You need to get over here now, something is wrong with the dog. This shouldn't all be my problem and you should be the one taking care of this." But most alarming, Alyssa texted Jack repeatedly when we were on a lunch date saying that he needed to come take the dog because she was going to the mental hospital for suicidal ideation. Understandably so, we get the bill and Jack loses his mind in the car. He was terrified. She never did go, and when Jack reached out to her mom, she said Alyssa was fine and had no idea what he was talking about. She texts him randomly telling him he better come spend time with the dog because she's thinking of moving south again, three hours away, and will basically text him threatening stuff all the time all with the guise of him seeing the dog. I know this is all something I signed up for, but between the crazy shit with Alyssa and his cheating in the past, I don't know how I got myself involved in something so messy. Yes, he was being abused and now he is so grateful for the love I give him, but I still feel somewhat insecure based off how much say Alyssa has on his mood. He doesn't fold for anyone like he does for her, and while she or us will move out of state within the next year, I guess I mostly need to know what people recommend in terms of me feeling more secure in myself. This is a bug weight on my shoulders and while I do love him and am happy he his around, I need to prioritize myself above all else. Please help.
TL;DR: My boyfriend (25m) and I (21f) have been through a lot. His ex girlfriend is very manipulative and I want to make sure I am taking care of myself to be the best version of myself after having a very transformative year (newfound sobriety, death of my grandfather, loss of many friends, and grief over a past relationship). There's also alternate version on the second slide. I've tested it, and it turns out HSR loads data only from your HS2 save (and it doesn't have to be completed!), so as long as you start that book with your preferred ending, you will get the right mention, and restarting HS1 won't affect it.

I’ve been going back and forth between both of these schools. Admitted and full tuition scholarships at both. COL is pretty much equal as well as BigLaw and FC placement.
I’m from Wisconsin and always have been, so getting out of the Midwest for a little while would be nice. However, I don’t want to lose out on what might be better opportunities in Illinois.
My goals are New York BigLaw with Chicago BigLaw as a potential backup target (I understand neither of these schools are feeders into BigLaw). I’ve visited both schools a couple times. I liked Athens, GA a bit more than Champaign, IL in terms of the vibe, and Georgia feels like it has a slight edge in placing grads into NYC (I’ve spoke with alumni and career services). However, NYC BigLaw is far from guaranteed and I worry about how much attending UGA might shut me out of the Chicago job market as. I have little interest in being in Atlanta. On the flip side, Illinois would be much better than Georgia for placing in Chicago, but according to employment reports they rarely have students go to NYC.
I’ve gone back and forth with myself over whether I value more the slight feeling of safety I get from Illinois or the excitement of being in a new part of the country like Georgia. Georgia feels a bit more like a place I WANT to go, whereas Illinois feels like where I SHOULD go.

Observation: Shanks has massive range given he could pinpoint Greenbull despite not being on the island. His future sight has the biggest range and he also seems to have Telepathy haki which is another complete level of Observation. Garp in comparison hasn't done anything impressive in terms of observation
Armament:Garp has the best hardening in the series but the advanced one gets trick because both can use Conqueror's Emission to a very high level.
Conqueror's: Shanks by a mile, Shanks Conqueror's is by far the most overwhelming in the series and he has also the best AcOC given what he did to Kid.
Hax: Shanks has the rare ability to cancel observation, paralyze people and turn off fruits. Garp doesn't have any type of hax.
Overall Shanks stomps in the Haki department while Garp only takes armament while Shanks take observation, future sight,conqueror's, advanced conqueror and hax.

I'm a 31 year old woman. Everyone around me has families, friends, and children. I have none of these things, and since turning 30 I've pretty much written love and family off for myself. Even if I could get the things that have kept me isolated under control (long term eating disorder and the financial/physical ramifications of that), I still don't have any chance because of my age. In Solium Infernum, there is an achievement for making demands of lower-ranking opponents. This is a game where kicking the little guy is the best play, and the sole consolation is that hiding among the crowd when people start tossing out killshots can leave a way out. People will take a lot from whoever's in last place.
To win Solium Infernum, you need prestige (you want prestige even if you don't win this way), so consider this 'Plan A'), or to kill everyone, or to take Pandemonium, big city in the center of the map. Attacking Pandy has consequences, including excluding you from prestige victory. expanded upon later.
I just made a Demand of Tribute of you. This cost me Prestige, and I am wagering on you accepting the demand. Deny the demand, keep the wagered prestige. If you accept my demand (give me any 3 pieces of tribute from your vault; at best, 3 pieces of tribute each worth 1) I will also gain my prestige wager back, plus a bonus. This is good for me, and a blow to you. Why would you ever accept, and why would I ever wager on you accepting?
This is because if you deny a Demand, the person who Made the demand (me) gets to declare a grievance; a Vendetta or a Praetor duel. Vendettas are bigger prestige wagers than demands, which means losing costs you a lot more. Important to note that both Vendettas and Duels have adjustable wagers, meaning you can go big or go home, or take a more incremental approach against someone you're less confident against.
Vendettas are usually a test of whether you can take Places of Power, Cantons (Tiles), or Legions from an enemy player within a set amount of time. The former two require proximity to send a Legion, the latter can be done with rituals that deal Legion damage (Destruction). Praetor duels are done with Praetors, officers that buff armies/do Duels. Duels do not require proximity, and are held in "the Arena". Each player sends a Praetor (or forefeits, a massive amount of prestige) to fight, one left standing (edited)
Winning a Praetor duel kills the other fiend's praetor, plus prestige. Shorter turn timers on Vendettas buff the prestige return, so short AND risky vendettas are worth a lot more than even a max Praetor duel wager (im pretty sure).
Vendettas can also have looong turn timers, putting you in a cold war state that is less favorable to either side's win.
Praetors have moves that rock paper scissor eachother, you each blindly select from public moves, add power of the move plus the Praetor's power in the top right corner, ties kill both. Winner takes all, unless u use the move that lets the Praetor escape if they lose (prestige still lost, pretty bleh trick)
You do not want to lose Praetor duels (especially to forfeiture) or Vendettas (big vendettas can swing games) Avoiding all this can be done by accepting the Demand.
It is a blow to accept it, but it is also less risky. To make an already long story shorter, I am omitting long term consequences, but please read about Blood Feuds in the encyclopedia. I don't want to lose vendettas or duels either, so you may infer that making a Demand implies one thinks they can win at a Praetor duel or Vendetta. Insults (another story) imply one thinks they can win both a duel or vendetta (not at the same time). I get to pick if it's a Duel or Vendetta on a Demand, so you should assume I'd pick whatever you'd like to happen the least.
Demands are preludes to war, or simple extortion. This is how wars start, and this is the sole means of getting into hostilities. There's no running ur unit into someones capital turn 6. Things take time, and you have a turn to decide if you want to accept a demand, or deny it, and all either choice entails.
By Turns: (if demand or insult accepted, wagers are returned with bonuses normally) Demand Made > Demand Delivered > Demand Denied > Duel > Demanding player chooses Praetor > Defending player chooses Praetor > choose moves > winner Demand Made > Demand Delivered > Demand Denied > Vendetta Claimed and Begins
So from the denial, consequences begin to arrive the turn after. You would have two hypothetical turns after denial to buy a Praetor for a duel on the third you'd select. It's one turn to try and guess what your opponents Vendetta terms are.

Both NBoss and I are still employed. Nboss’s boss (I’ll call them Big Boss) had to postpone the meeting with us but addressed us last week. Unfortunately, they are not familiar with the intricacies of our jobs and said something that derailed the conversation from what I believe were valid criticisms.
Still, Big Boss awkwardly admitted that if there are not improvements in the coming months, their own and others’ jobs are on the line. They also said they have shielded certain people from that fate already. NBoss clearly recognized Big Boss was talking about them (it was so satisfying to see their face upon realization), and although Big Boss kept talking about us succeeding or failing as a united front, it became pretty apparent that it’s not us small fries at risk. The boss between Nboss and my position (who I’ll call Mid-Boss) took some level of accountability, acknowledging that Mid-Boss and NBoss are ultimately responsible and thus likely to be the ones on the chopping block. Of course, after the meeting NBoss got right to work trying to manipulate the situation using two minions to make the point that Big Boss doesn’t understand us (he doesn’t, but not for the reasons they claim).
Big Boss is scheduled to meet with the broader department soon. I’ve been considering reaching out to the consultant who has been working with us. They are a respected leader in our field working privately at the request of Big Boss, not a management consultant, which gives me a bit of hope that they may be effective in advising Big Boss to not say inflammatory, distracting things, and rather address the (valid) issues with precise language and specific examples. The situation is so tense that everyone is dreading it, so at least turning down the rhetoric might help? Is this a terrible idea?
Either way, I’m looking for other jobs but it’s quite a small field and not a great time to look. In the meantime, I’m laying low as best I can.

Carlos lounged comfortably on one of the mayor's fancy sofas. At 23 years old with a healthy body he really didn't need cushioned upholstery, but he liked how it felt. Honestly, he was probably more comfortable with high quality furniture than someone of his relatively low-income background should be in this world. Spoiled by the mass production factories of modern Earth, I suppose. All of this stuff here is probably handmade. Er, make that definitely handmade. Unless they have magic factories I haven't heard about, or something. He mentally shrugged. There was no point trying to change his attitudes toward furniture now. While this world might have higher prices for a lot of things than he was used to, he was also a lot richer than he was used to thanks to having become a noble lord. People would expect him to treat fine furniture as cheap because of his station.
I might have the physical habits of a couch potato, but at least I don't look like one. Too skinny. Not as skinny as Amber, though. He smiled as he watched the young woman next to him on the sofa continue animatedly expounding on their recent adventures together. She was lanky, with few curves to speak of and spindly limbs, far from any conventional picture of feminine beauty. Her hair, a slightly lighter shade of brown than his own, was cropped short. He thought she was 18 or 19 years old, but wasn't sure. Have I really never asked her age before? ... Would that be a rude question here? Regardless of her age, she had grown her confidence a lot since their first meeting a few weeks ago. She'd found her footing in a new life that she'd seized with utter determination, and he saw no sign of the shyness that she'd first greeted him with. The way her potential was finally blooming was beautiful to watch.
Carlos turned his gaze to the sofa across from them and carefully held back from laughing at the expressions Trinlen was making as Amber wrapped up explaining the events and developments they'd gone through since their introduction to him at the Royal Mage Academy. Carlos had contributed a fair amount to the explanation at first, but Amber had taken to it with enthusiasm when she arrived, and he could tell she was enjoying it. The young man in front of them, newly graduated from said academy, was on the edge of his seat and leaning forward, hanging attentively on every word. His casual attire, plain and made of cheap materials, looked thoroughly out of place on the finely embroidered velvet of the sofa, but he'd shown no sign of even noticing the finery around him. Excitement warred for control of his face with surprise, disbelief, envy, and dismay.
Amber finished her impromptu monologue, and Trinlen slowly schooled his face into a neutral expression. His voice was tense and tightly controlled. "So... In short, you're telling me that in the mere two weeks since you met me, you discovered a mana-poaching conspiracy of nobles, were abducted right under the noses of two royal guards without them even noticing, absorbed mana so fast that you gained 6 levels in a day and a half - so unfair, by the way - somehow learned an obscure portal spell from just its name and description, found evidence of a conspiracy against the Crown, and personally met a princess." He paused, then threw his hands up as he wailed in frustration and disappointment. "And I missed it!?"
Carlos threw back his head and burst out laughing. He couldn't help it. Trinlen just sounded so much like a little kid who'd barely missed out on a candy store giving away its entire stock for free. It was such an incredible light-hearted contrast with how everyone else viewed these same events that the sheer ridiculousness of it was overwhelming. Amber joined the laughter a moment later, shaking her head in amused disbelief, and after a few more seconds Trinlen started chuckling too.
Carlos's laughter eventually trailed off, and he took a deep breath to settle down. "Thanks, Trinlen. It's been a very stressful two weeks, and laughing like that helped release a lot of it. Feels good. Anyway, what have you been up to? I thought you would take a whole month to graduate?"
"Technically I only said 'next month', not that it would be at the same point in the month. But yes, this is earlier than I expected. The normal graduation ceremony is still a week and a half away." Trinlen shrugged. "They didn't explain the reasons, but after what you said I'm guessing your meeting with the princess prompted her to do something. The vice headmaster called me to his office yesterday morning, a few teachers grilled me on my classwork, and they declared I'd passed my exams. Then they told me to pack because I'd be teleported to my new employers the next day, and here I am." He sighed. "Hmph. Now I won't get to humiliate Norla in front of the whole academy when she gives her speech." Then he perked up and grinned widely. "But it sounds like you two are going to be so much fun that I'll get over it in no time!"
"I'm not sure if I agree with your idea of fun, Trinlen, but if it motivates you to help us more then that's good enough for me." Carlos chuckled again. "Anyway, do you need some time to get settled in? You might need to think about lesson plans for us too. We don't need just catalogues of incantations to learn anymore, at least not for simple ones, but I believe you learned other things in the academy too. You mentioned creating your own spells, as I recall."
Trinlen nodded. "I did mention that, yes. I'm guessing your lack of need for a catalogue is because of your newfound ability to somehow pull entire incantations from thin air? You'll have to at least tell me about the limitations of that so I'll know what I still need to teach you, but yeah, there are other things. For one thing, there's your sloppy terminology! Why does no one outside of the academy care about properly distinguishing between the states of mana? Is it really that hard to understand that calling aether, mana, and essence all by the same term obscures your meaning and often causes confusion? Or are people so stupid that they can't even understand the difference?"
Carlos blinked and exchanged a look with Amber. His comprehension aid informed him about the distinction the instant Trinlen spoke the terms. That would have been nice to know earlier. The comprehension aid is a house secret, so we should let him explain. "At least for us, it's just ignorance. I don't think I've even heard the other two terms you mentioned, and certainly no one ever explained them. So, what is the difference?"
Trinlen paused, cocked his head for a moment, and slowly deflated after his impassioned rant. "Yeah, okay, that's fair. I don't think I ever heard about it before going to the academy either." He sat up straight. "Aether is what you've been calling ambient mana. It's thin like air, and it's everywhere. Its only use is converting it to mana or essence. Mana, using the term with proper precision, is thicker but still fluid like water. It exists primarily in people or creatures and is used as fuel to supply power for spells and magical effects. Essence is hard and solid. It is the material that soul structures are made of, as well as the forms of active spells and enchantments. Am I clear so far?"
Amber answered first. "Yes, I'm familiar with each of the forms you described. I have questions about more details - so many questions - but you should get properly settled in, and maybe eat lunch, before we really get down to it. Have you spoken with Mayor Stelras yet? Do you have lodging sorted out?"
"I went by his office first. He's having someone take my luggage to an inn. The Adventurer's Haven, I think? He said something about a 'low-value target' and having an empty suite already booked." Trinlen's eyes widened. "Waaait a minute. Is he putting me in the room you two were abducted from?"
Carlos shrugged. "Sounds like it."
"Nice! Think there'll be any evidence left of how it was done?"
"Haha! Probably not by this point, but you're welcome to look. Now go get unpacked, eat a meal, and start planning your lessons for us. I'm glad you're here, but we have some other things to do too."
Trinlen nodded and stood up. "Sure. I'll be back before you miss me."
Carlos waved as Trinlen sauntered out the door. He and Amber sat in companionable silence for a while as he felt the mana - or essence? - of Trinlen's soul moving off into the distance. "Well. That was interesting. It's good to have him, but I was expecting a bit more time to think and plan before he'd get here."
"Yeah." Amber stretched and then leaned back into the sofa's cushions, luxuriating in their soft firmness. "So, how much are we going to tell him? How useful will his knowledge even be for us, now that we have, what did you call it, the reference documentation? That bit about the states of mana is good to know, but is it really relevant and important, and how much more can there be that's not in the documentation?"
"Be careful talking about that out loud, remember?" Carlos relaxed and draped his arms across the sofa's back as he focused his mind on their mental bond through Purple, their friendly dungeon core. [On Earth, we made many languages similar to the language of incantations, and we had the reference documentation for all of them. We even published that documentation free for everyone to have. Teachers for those languages were still useful, and even critically important for many people. Having access to knowledge doesn't mean you automatically understand how to properly apply it. There may be related knowledge we have no idea even exists. There could be techniques and patterns for how to use the language that are simply outside the scope of the documentation. Perhaps most importantly, a teacher can use their experience to notice a student's mistakes and correct them before they become problems.]
[Hmm.] Amber bit her lip, thinking. [Like how I knew about making soul structures and synergies between them, but had no idea about the importance of being able to examine and fix them, I suppose.]
Carlos nodded. [Yeah. And that's a really simple example. I know some that are a lot more complex, though I'm not sure how many of them are even applicable for incantations. Inversion of control, dependency injection, factory patterns...] He shook his head. [Just the context knowledge needed to be able to fully understand those could take days or weeks to teach well enough for you to use them. I could maybe explain the basic ideas faster with some simplified analogies, but that would lose so many details that I doubt it would still be useful.]
Amber paused. [... Even my comprehension aid is baffled by the terms you just said. It translated the individual words that you said, but all I got for the phrases is a confusing jumble.] She chuckled. [Anyway, I concede the point. Trinlen will still be able to teach us important and useful things. We still need to decide what secrets to share with him.]
[A lot depends on how good he is at keeping secrets. We don't actually know him all that well yet. He's certainly fun, and he seems clever, but for assessing his integrity we're leaning pretty hard on just a janitor vouching for him.] Carlos frowned in thought. [In order for him to do his job, he needs to know that we can only "pull an entire incantation from thin air" if it's a simple one. He does not need to know the full details of help, however, and most certainly does not need to learn to use it himself. That secret is a very sensitive one, where even just letting too much knowledge of it spread would lose us a major advantage.]
[Definitely. No casting help where he can hear it, and don't say anything about it that's not directly relevant for his teaching, either. Not until he's earned our full trust.] Amber lapsed into silent consideration. [We should introduce him to Purple. We'll kind of have to at some point anyway, and the really valuable thing there is Purple himself, not just the knowledge of his existence.]
Carlos nodded. [True. I think that probably is the least sensitive of our house secrets, and being able to call him through a bond with Purple would be useful.] He chuckled. [And maybe his cleverness will end up producing some good ideas for Purple to use. See if he can find a more productive outlet than pranks for his creativity. And then... If he keeps that secret well enough for long enough, we can consider trusting him with more secrets.]
Amber sent back wordless agreement.
Carlos started sitting up, lifting himself out of the comfortable cushions. "Well, we should get some food ourselves, too. And maybe introduce Trinlen to everyone else along with Purple." He stood up and spotted a letter he'd set aside when Trinlen arrived. "Oh yeah, and what do you think we should do about Kindar?"
"Wait, what's this about Kindar?"

Last week my wife was involved in a car accident. She was at a stop sign and, from her account, the driver traveling on the road she was turning onto was stopped and waved her into the road. As she was finishing her turn the other car struck her front passenger side. Once they pulled into a gas station the other driver immediately gets out claiming this accident is my wife's fault. She then goes on to say that she doesn't want to involve insurance or call the police. This accident occurred in Tennessee where contacting the authorities for almost all accidents is required. She called me and I told her to hang up and call 911 because things just didn't seem right (this was her first accident so she was very frazzled to begin with). On the phone with the 911 operator they both gave their name, tag numbers (the other driver gave a fake tag ID, and both drivers said there were no injuries. Once 911 informed them they would dispatch someone to the scene the other driver said she was getting a lawyer and fled the scene without giving my wife contact information for herself or her insurance. We immediately filed an insurance claim and sent them all the information we had including a blurry picture of the other driver's license plate my wife got as the other car fled.
After some research I believe this could have been a driver trying to take advantage of my wife who was alone, in her 20's, and not in the best part of town. Because my wife would technically be at-fault the driver tried to pressure my wife into just paying cash because it "would be cheaper." The over $2000 worth of damages to my wife's car would say otherwise.
Now comes the fun part where I need some advice from people who have dealt with any situation similar to this just so I know what to expect and any possible things I need to prepare for. Today insurance contacted my wife to let her know the other driver went to the police station to file an amended police report and that they have a lawyer and are claiming an injury. Is there any chance that this driver actually would have a case against my wife even though she committed a hit-and-run by definition of Tennessee laws? I know in legal terms my wife was at fault, but the other driver committed an actual crime (at least I assume it is even though they identified themself later). On the amended police report the other driver still has not provided any insurance information.
So: Is there an actual case here? Should we go ahead and look into getting an attorney? Do we need to worry about pressing charges against the other driver for the hit-and-run or will insurance deal with that?

I had met a man, initial letter N (31M) through reddit some 4-5 months back. He commented on my post that he had a few materials for a competitive exam that I was giving. I DMed him asking the same and moved to telegram to share the same files.
There was an instant connection and we started talking. On the first day itself I had asked him if he had a gf or wife. He said no and so we continued talking. After 1 month, he went to his hometown during his leaves and communication was infrequent. He wouldn't talk when he was home, disappeared during the long weekend completely, etc. I couldn't understand if he was just uninterested or was dating someone else.
I tried talking with him about this, a couple of times, he just shut down saying he was going through a lot etc. But then suddenly he flipped and started talking like before. He even came to met me in my city. He even asked me what does he see in next 2 - 3 years for us. And he was talking in long term right from the starting.
Honestly, he felt like a complete green flag except for this communication thing. After his leaves ended, he went back to his city and then again after a few days communication lessened to the point where it would be barely 1-2 msgs each day. He said it was work but my female intuition was telling me something is wrong.
I asked him multiple times to tell me if there's someone else. He gaslighted me each time. Told me I'm overthinking etc. But still we had very less communication and I was fed up of it and anxious all the time. So I too stopped putting in the efforts. One day he posted status of link to his mother's youtube channel. My instincts were screaming by then. So I stalked the account, came across one name. Somehow I found her account on instagram but it was private, she had a small business too in which the contact number for queries given was his. And of course she wasn't his sister, because the surname in bio was different. I also found her sister's instagram which is an open account. I saw their wedding video. He's been married for 3 years and dating her since almost 2017 (I guess).
I confronted him, he left the msgs on seen. I had to threaten him to just agree. Even then he tried to be the victim. After that I blocked him from everywhere. This was almost 20 days back but somehow the girl keeps coming in my mind. I'm really confused if I should msg her and tell her everything. I have screenshots and all the proof. He cheated on her emotionally and physically.
And I'm sure I'm not the only girl he was talking to. There might be other girls too from reddit itself. If any of you think you are talking to a guy I described, dm me the reddit ID or name of the person and I'll tell you. Should I tell his wife? If so how without causing any damage to me?

I am about to turn 40 and I feel like I cannot handle the stress of my job anymore. I am sick all the time and exhausted. (Yes I work out and yes I eat healthy) My kids are getting older and have big kid problems. I worked through my pregnancies and plopped them in daycare at 3 mos old. I hustled. I have been teaching 18 years. I have another 25 years to go till retirement- age 65. (Yep that would be 43 years of teaching) And no health insurance when I retire- not the good old days anymore.
My work environment is toxic here. I wake up early and get home and I have nothing left for my family. I am emotionally and physically taxed. I am out of sick days. My mental health is tanking bc I am spread too thin. Work is killing me.

I don't care what I do next, as long as it is flexible and somewhat less stressful. I am done breaking up fights, getting cursed at by students and yelled at by my admin and parents threatening to beat me up.
My husbands career pays the majority of expenses. Our gross is $279,000. I make $80k. He is trying to move up so he can start to replace my salary and we are cutting back on expenses by having kids drop travel sports, so I can be home more often and take care of what they really need. They need me- even for the next 8 years, till the first one (girl) graduates. We realize that travel sports are a luxury and the cost of living in NJ is not getting any cheaper. My husband now has to commute two days a week to work, 3 hours total and no longer will be available to get kids on and off the bus like he has been. I leave before them and arrive after they get home. That is also a concern. Since I am the one making less money, I can try to find something else that maybe is hybrid or part time so we don't have to hire someone to watch the kids. I don't know if his 2 days will become 3 or 4. Return to office sucks! Him being home was so nice.

Also in terms of stats- we own both our cars- 8 and 12 years old, good condition, just hit 100k miles on each. We pay almost $4k in mortgage monthly. We owe $529k on our house.
