2020.04.04 20:53 FritoZanzibar List of locations with *randomized* rare loot/outfits

.
(ง ͡ʘ ͜ʖ ͡ʘ)ง

Hi everyone!
My endgame is finding rare loot/outfits to either display, collect or sell. I enjoy the hunt!
I'd like to list all the locations/ways we can think of that have chances of obtaining randomized rare outfits and loot.

I know there are many other neat static always-there outfits and loot out in the Wasteland but I want to focus on the stuff that isn't guaranteed- sometimes they can be randomized within a small loot pool of available items.

***special thanks to those Mappalachia creators who made the map of randomized encounters possible***
*shout out to u/Coogr77 and u/BobbyFnShaffer for putting up with me talking about, searching for, and obsessing over rare loot

What are we missing? Please post more and I will add them to the main post!
If I'm missing any items at certain locations/events/vendors please let me know.

( ✧≖ ͜ʖ≖)

2016.06.14 20:58 Skirtz First ever loaf of bread. Critiques?

So I decided to make some Artos bread and it turned out like this. This is the first time I've ever tried baking bread, or tried cooking at all, but it seems to have turned out well. I also made a glaze for it made mostly of sugar, water, and honey. Any critiques? I know a picture isn't much to go by but hopefully it can be some help... I can say right off the bat that the shape is bad. I tried to make it into a boule shape as best I could but one little crack kept appearing (slightly visible in the top left corner) that I couldn't seem to seal without excessive handling that would have made even more cracks. The dough cracked on other places too while it was cooking. Maybe from how I handled the dough shortly before baking (I had to transfer it from the flat pan I was handling it in to my hot la cloche that had been cooking in the oven by itself at 450 degrees, as I've seen people recommend, so I sorta scooped up the dough and just plopped it in as best I could without touching the cloche). Haven't tasted it yet (waiting for some friends to come over and try it with me), but it sure smells good! The internal temperature registered a little high. My thermometer clocked it at an even 200 degrees, instead of the 190 that the recipe said it should be at...though I might not have stuck the thermometer exactly in the center. But it doesn't look burnt.
Edit: Also: how's the crumb?

2014.11.26 18:22 XaroXaroDoh The Night Before

The night was black and still- most men were huddled in the flint barracks or their private chambers. Some took refuge in the common hall if they could not sleep, drinking and drabbling about. Few brothers kept watch and moved about the top of the wall, which shone and shimmered in the moonlight. Far below them in the vaults sat Gawen, drinking from his wine skin and flipping through the crinkled and cracked pages of old books. He couldn't read very much at all but enjoyed trying all the same.
He sat, drinking his share and flipping the pages as gently as he could for a man of his size. Gawen took it in, savoring each word he recognized and each one he didn’t, and studying closely the drawings of wights, dragons, and wars. They excited, frightened, and inspired him all the same. The ranger’s thoughts drifted from the book about what was coming. After tonight, he would not have the comfort of books and shelter. Only frost and fury awaited him on the way to the Shadow Tower, he could feel it.
The creak of the opening wooden door interrupted his train of thought. Gawen’s olive greens jolted upwards to see a steward, Geoff, let himself in to the vaults. The cook was an unkempt man, straggly of hair and a beard to rival Gawen’s own. One blue and one brown eye looked back at the Dornishman. “I did not expect to find you here this time of night, Gawen,” Geoff acknowledged, taking a seat down the long table from him. “Do you read?”
Gawen, embarrassed by the question, coughed and looked down at the book.
“Ah, no, not so much- but a little. I like the pictures that come up sometimes though.” He felt a fool, much how he thought Selmy must have felt during their conversation earlier. Nervously, his wine skin found the mouth beneath his beard, and forced some into his belly. It felt warmer than usual swimming down into his stomach.
“Aye.” Geoff took a small leather-bound book from his garbs. Gawen watched him dip his quill in ink and begin writing. He wondered where Geoff had learned to write. Gawen had known him since he arrived at Castle Black- they arrived around the same time, years ago. Geoff had lived in the North all of his life, and come to the Wall at his own discretion after leaving Bear Island. Some had said he sailed down from the Frozen Shore, thus the one blue eye reminiscent of a wight’s own eerie irises.
“You can write, Geoff?” asked Gawen. Geoff didn’t look up from his pages.
“Some. I am well versed in kitchen words, recipes and stock and the like.”
“Who taught you?”
One blue eye and one brown eye looked up to Gawen. Geoff seemed to study Gawen for a split second, seemingly trying to decide what to tell him.
“A woman who claimed to have been from Ulthos. She lived on Bear Island as an assistant in the kitchens of Mormont Keep. We spent time together.”
“I see. Have a recipe for sweet summerwine then?” He was not one to long for home, but Gawen missed the sweet reds from Dorne. The mash they drank here in the North kept his belly warm, but did little to enlighten the tastebuds on his tongue.
“I’m afraid not, Gawen.” Geoff turned back down to his writing. Gawen sighed on the inside, and closed the book he had been studying over. He rose from his seat, tucking his wine skin away and pulling out a black wolfscap from its place. Dry & cracked leather hands placed it snuggly on his broad, bald head.
“I shall see you when I return, brother,” he said to Geoff, giving him a hefty pat on his back as he walked towards the creaking door. Geoff stopped writing, and looked back up at Gawen.
“Return? Where are you off to?”
“The Shadow Tower. We’ve heard from no one there for a while now. I reckon we’re being sent to find out the why’s and what’s of it all.”
Geoff perked up at the sound of Shadow Tower. Strange, Gawen thought, considering the circumstances behind it. “The Shadow Tower? Mayhaps, you can keep an eye out for some things for me while out? I think if Shadow Tower has been abandoned, they will have them.”
“And what would that be?”
“Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, honey- any spices, really. You say you miss your summery reds- I can’t promise you it will taste the same, but these are some things I need for a mulled wine. It will be better than the dull, heavy mash that you put into your wine skin now.”
Gawen smiled at the steward. It was nice, for once, to have a simple task of collecting ingredients for win, rather than to be a forced spy, or have to paint the snow red with wildling blood.
“It’d be my great pleasure to grab those for you, Geoff,” Gawen exclaimed. “But, I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t know what is what if I made it to the kitchen and looked upon all of the jars and such.”
Geoff contemplated for a moment, his one blue eye drifting from Gawen to the books to the lantern that lit the room. Gawen stood awkwardly, slightly bending down so his head wouldn’t hit the ceiling. There were only a few others, like their Lord Commander Artos, who stood so tall they had this problem in the cramped vaults.
“Ah. What if I draw them for you? I may not be the best at linework, but I’m sure I can manage to replicate cinnamon and gingerroot on the page. Cloves, too- as for honey, well, here!” Geoff dipped his head back down to his book, flipping a page over and dipping the nib of his quill into ink. He wrote the letters on the page- H, O, N, E, and Y. He lifted it up and presented it to Gawen. “Those letters, they spell honey. It will likely be in a jar or a couple of jars, next to other, similar looking jars. Find the jar that has this-“ Geoff tapped the word on the page vigorously, “-written on it. The other things I will draw for you, and before you leave on the morrow I will find you with drawings.”
Gawen smiled again, happy knowing he would have something to look for on his mission. He also enjoyed that he would have some drawings to look at, even if it was just a crudely drawn picture of cinnamon sticks and garlic cloves. “That sounds fine, Geoff. I look forward to it.”
“Excellent. Thank you, Gawen.”
“Of course, brother. On the morrow, then.”
Gawen exited the vaults in a better mood than he had entered them. The mission may not end so badly, he optimistically persuaded himself. Perhaps all that would be left at Shadow Tower for the party to deal with would be the ingredients he needed to collect. Hopefully, he thought. He strode back to the flint barracks where he resided, and took sleep for the night. Gawen drifted into sleep, thinking not of dragons, wights and war, but of cinnamon, summerwine, and honey.

2014.08.20 01:33 kookaburra1701 How to prevent your kokkine avga from bleeding all over your Lambropsomo

Kokkine Avga and Lambropsomo gallery
I suppose this isn't strictly about bread, but it's something that's been weighing on my mind for the last few weeks. (I'm trying to think of a problem more first-world than being sad over complete strangers' bread not coming out perfectly, but there it is) I'm currently working my way through the Breadbaker's Apprentice by Peter Reinhart, and I'm on the Artos variations. I've been looking at various baking blogs of people doing the BBA challenge, and I've noticed that a lot of people are having trouble with the Lambropsomo - their eggs are more pink than red and they tend to bleed all over the dough. I've even seen chatter about people using RIT dye (!!!) to try and get a colorfast deep red. Some people just cook the bread with non-dyed eggs, and then replace them with red eggs, but to my mind that ruins the look of the eggs embedded deep in the braid.
But all this is totally unnecessary if you just use the traditional Greek method for dying eggs red - it's colorfast, doesn't bleed, and is completely food-safe!
  1. Remove eggs from the refrigerator an hour or so before you plan on cooking them. You want them to warm to room temperature.
  2. Skin 10-15 yellow (Spanish) onions. The more papery skin the better. Chop up the skins and place in a sauce pan. Add 2-3 cups of water, and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Strain the dye into a bowl (glass or stainless steel is best, so the dye doesn't discolor a nice enamel bowl - ask me how I know this) and cool. I usually put mine in the refrigerator to get it cooled down to room temp faster.
  4. When the eggs and the dye are both the same temperature, add them to a sauce pan. If you don't have enough dye to completely cover your eggs, you can add some water (and a little vinegar).
  5. Bring the eggs and dye to a boil. Boil for 20 minutes, or however long you like to boil your eggs. By starting the eggs and liquid out at the same temperature, you reduce the risk of having them crack in the pot.
  6. After the eggs are cooked, remove them from the heat, and check the color by lifting one out of the pot with a slotted spoon. They should be a deep burnt orange.
  7. Leave the eggs in the water to cool, and when the pot is cool enough, move it to the refrigerator, and leave them soaking in the dye overnight.
  8. In the morning, carefully rinse the eggs to remove excess dye. If it seems like excessive dye is coming off, you can always dunk them in more vinegar. Leave them to drain, and then polish with a small amount of olive oil for a nice shiny shell.
You now have authentic Greek kokkine avga that won't bleed all over your Lambropsomo!
I hope this post is helpful to anyone who wants to make this recipe, but is unsure of how to create beautiful, food-safe red eggs that won't make your loaf look like a crime scene.
