2024.05.15 23:38 PaulSarries Saracens Shuttle

I am off to Sarries v Sale Sharks on Saturday and cannot wait. Unfortunately, the people I normally go with are not going. Usually, I travel to StoneX in the car with them, but this time around I'm going to be a 'Billy no mates' and go by myself. Thought I might as well give the train and shuttle a try as it is an easy option for me. After such a long time supporting Sarries, I'm embarrassed to say I have never been on the shuttle!
I'm one of those people that get really anxious when I do something for the first time, particularly when I'm doing it by myself. Just wondering how straight forward it is to get the shuttle to the ground? I will be going to Mill Hill Broadway. From what I gather, it is bus stop B and it drops off a little way from the ground? Any advice and words of encouragement appreciated!
I have been going to StoneX for years but this will be the first time going by myself! At the very worst, I usually get my wife to go with me (she doesn't appreciate rugby as much as I would like!) but she is watching the kids and, sadly, grandparents are not available for babysitting!
Just hoping Bring and Braai is back this time as last time I went, versus Gloucester in the last home game, it wasn't there! It is my favourite food stall with the pulled meats one coming second!
Anyway, let me know your experiences getting the shuttle. I would appreciate it! Thanks.
COME ON SARRIES!

2024.05.15 23:28 DerpyAngel09 Today I learned...

For those of you with the 300BX car mod, DO NOT buy in career mode, it will likely bork your save. Last night I saw on for sale on the garage computer for less than 800 beam$, bought it drove it to garage the saved and went to sleep, woke up and loaded my save and my built 240BX was missing but parts inventory was still present, and the 300BX was nowhere to be found either apart from it's parts in the inventory. Relaunching beam didn't fix it and neither did buying a new car, also new doesn't show up in your car list either. Buying the 300BX is a POOR investment and life choice, enjoy in sandbox only. Thanks for reading my rant.

2024.05.15 23:13 Camcolexx I feel as if I don’t belong here some days.

I read some of the post in here and I feel like maybe I have it too good. I live in indiana and from the looks of it the living situation isn’t as bad as most places. I pay $1361 a month for rent, internet, and two car spaces. I recently had a roommate move in a couple months ago cause I couldn’t afford rent with my crappy sales job. I’m doing a little better now but I have so much debt I still feel like I don’t see where to even start.

2024.05.15 23:10 The_Crimson_Cub Want to talk about something I never see brought up enough about owning a home.. Property Taxes

A lot of times I see the Own vs Rent argument. And it does get mentioned occasionally. But i see an alarming trend that’s not talked about enough for retirement. Further, it’s not talked about ”enough” with respect to inflation.
Inflation. Let’s talk about that. Over the years, numerous revisions have been done on how to calculate it by official government numbers. And it always swings in favor of lowering CPI after each revision.
That aside, let’s use official government figures. You’re a young 18-22 year old considering retirement for the first time. Probably 50 years. Maybe 40, because you’re diligent about planning, after all, you’re researching it the ripe age of 22.
You rewind the clock back to 1975 to try to find the inflation rate you can expect, despite the fact that the U.S. Monetary system has printed the majority of all money in circulation recently.
You think, property taxes. Now this is home and geographic related. Property values have skyrocketed especially upon the coastal cities of Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, New York City, etc. Home prices are through the roof (keep in mind, we’re not even discussing inflation of home mortgages themselves. Your grandparents who bought a home in California at 60k is now 1.8 million)
Back to Property taxes, you find a home for 600k, nothing crazy in your city with a good job. You find the best rate with your 780 credit score. You get lucky, and it’s capped at 1% property taxes too.
You pay 6k a year to call that property yours whether it’s owned by the bank or you. Using https://www.usinflationcalculator.com Going back to 1975, that 6k then, is now almost 39k a year.
39k.. a year .. is what you will owe for owning your own home outright factoring in inflation… after numerous revisions to make the official figure better for optics.
That’s not including basic repairs, maintenance, insurance, and utility costs for gas, electricity, water, internet, etc.
We talk about healthcare and cost of living being in retirement.. but I don’t see property taxes relative to inflation mentioned enough.
Some will argue some taxes are most just than others.. (property tax vs sales tax vs income tax)
But just wanted to put this out there for information, and it only gets worse. Crazy high property taxes? 17000 now? That’s 100k a year in retirement. With capped prices.
Just something to consider as you plan for retirement (to the younger crowd)
Can figures be manipulated to look slightly better? Sure. But this is just a rough look at how this will impact your retirement owning a home, which to me is insane. I’m well aware services like police, firefighters, school etc need to be funded. But our tax code is a mess. You get taxed on your income tax when earning income, but invest your money wisely to get capital gains taxed, to have enough money to own a car to get taxed, for a home you can someday own to get property taxed, so you can buy little things that make you happy on sales taxed, and if you’re lucky to save enough to give your children a better life to get hit with inheritance/estate tax.
When planning for retirement, make sure to keep taxes and inflation into account, especially property taxes.

2024.05.15 23:03 dj_boy-Wonder Mechanics disconnecting my dash cam

So my wife took her car for some repairs a year ago (needed a new panel, bonnet and headlight and part of its repair journey was at my regular Subaru dealer) it was in for a week I think, and when it came back I swear there was like 300 KM more on the odo… on top of that they unplugged the dashcam and didn’t plug it back in… I told my wife that’s super fucked and we should complain but she shrugged it off and didn’t want to make a big deal, she figured both businesses would just point to the other so I left it alone…
She took it for a service yesterday and once again it came back with the dash cam disconnected (and not reconnected).
A lot of people might never notice their dash cam unplugged and the dealership are the ones who bailed my wife up for the overpriced thing in the first place. So like, they sold it to her to “protect her car” or whatever then they unplug it at the service so she loses the benefit of it. That feels pretty shit to me. what if she had an accident on the way home or if there was an accident on the test drive? Is this common place? Are mechanics doing it so they can do dodgey shit to my wife’s car? Do I need a new service centre?

2024.05.15 23:01 Mudgolem99 Question about transmissions for drifting

I'm extremely new to drifting and don't know much about cars in general. I'm looking at some nissan 240sx's for sale online and notice that some of them have had their transmissions swapped from automatics to manuals. My dad (car guy) tells me that if you swap a transmission, the car will never be the same again.
So my question is this, would it be a mistake to purchase a car that had it's transmission swapped? Is it more prone to breaking in some way? Would it hurt or take away from the experience of drifting somehow?

2024.05.15 22:58 cum-on-in- UPDATE: My 2023 Bolt EUV has had several random glitches and U-codes. Now, GM is refusing to help.

I’ve had four independent issues with my Bolt. It was purchased brand new in February of this year.
  1. Charging System Error - took to dealer. They scanned it, code was already cleared and just in history. Gave it back. Nothing done.
  2. Propulsion System Error, Performance Reduced - Same deal. Code already cleared itself by the time the dealer scanned it. Saw the U-code in history but nothing could be done.
  3. Conditions Not Correct for Shift - I’m aware of giving the car time to boot. I always do. It still refused to let me get out of Park. Called OnStar. Transferred to EV Concierge. Concierge told me to take the key remote 100 feet away, come back and press power button, go back and get key, come back and turn car off and on again. That did work.
  4. Service Parking Brake - Brake was stuck enabled. Couldn’t move car. Contacted OnStar. Transferred to GM Customer Care. They scheduled an appointment at the dealer I got it from for service. Dealer saw U code in history, but no active codes. Nothing was done.
I was told by the receptionist at the dealer I got the car from that they didn’t service EVs. Was told to go to another local Chevy dealer.
I do so. That second dealer says they don’t service them either and the first dealer shouldn’t have sold me the new car if they don’t have EV mechanics.
Come back to first dealer. Speak to sales manager. He tells me he doesn’t fix them he just sells them. Sends me to service department manager.
Service department manager confirms they do have an EV technician. So why wasn’t the car looked at by him the last three times I’ve brought it here? Because there was no active code.
Call GM customer service.
GM service tells me that roadside assistance will not take the car to the nearest EV certified dealer. Only the nearest dealer within 25 miles. Then it’s up to them or me to pay up for the remainder.
GM tells me to fight the dealer that sold me the car for resolution. Service manager tells me he will keep the car for a few days and keep turning it on and off until it gives an error but until it does they will not do anything. Even if history codes show, if it’s not active, then the car is actually 100% fine and working as of that time and they will not service it.
I am in Kentucky. Kentucky lemon law requires 3 service visits for the same issue, 6 visits for different issues, or 30 days in the garage for service, within 1 year of ownership or 12,000 miles whoever comes first.
I have 3 recorded visits for different issues.
I am soured on my view of GM and of the dealer that sold me this car. Other Chevy dealers near me don’t even sell EVs due to the issues they have. Only big brands like Rivian and Tesla make do with their service.
I’m upset and at a loss.

2024.05.15 22:55 MisterSN95 Need Some Pointers - Underemployed Nearly a Year

I just moved to NYC in February after my wife landed a new role as an HR Manager in Manhattan. It's been a dream for both of us to move to Brooklyn for a while, but this wasn't the most ideal situation. She was laid off last year ($96k total comp) and so was I, but she found work and so we made the move. I was laid off last year making $83k total comp in Houston, TX and I managed to snag a consulting role for a small petroleum company ($50k), and got laid off shortly after by them too after they ran into some major accounting issues and laid off all new hires (HR, sales, marketing). I haven’t been able to land a new job in 8 months. We had a lifestyle built around us making $150k+ and since then we've moved out, sold half our belongings, gotten rid of all of our cars, downsized considerably, but also racked up credit card debt managing health costs without insurance and moving costs to get to NY.
I'm currently working part-time at an app development agency as a Content Marketing Associate in midtown Manhattan, but it's hardly enough to keep up with the cost of living in NYC and I can't lay the full responsibility of taking care of the household at my wife's feet, especially as we have more 2 family members moving in with us next month to finish college in NY. They'll be able to support themselves, so I'm not worried about paying for them - it's just a lot of responsibility that would be better managed if I had a full-time job.
I’ve done product marketing, social media, SEO, sales enablement, content creation and management, video production, and been in B2B SaaS, retail B2C, ERP, and app development since my first internship. Everyone I pass my resume to says it’s one of the best they’ve seen for my level of experience, including a graduate marketing professor from the University of Vermont. I have photography, graphics, video and marketing samples to provide every employer, yet … nothing.
I see ALOT of roles on LinkedIn and ZipRecruiter posting for $45-$60k and I do wonder how that’s enough for experienced applicants with 3-6 years of experience working in Manhattan, even if you lived way out in Queens bc it is NOT cheap. I apply anyways, beggers can't be choosers. But at the same time, are people really getting hired in NYC right now for marketing roles? I was told to shoot for $90-$130k for my level of experience. Alot of my friends are actually earning about $120k with some earning over $200k working as PMs and PMMs, without MBAs.
But I have been getting ghosted or outright rejected and I’ve applied to nearly 800 positions now (since last June). Initially, I was spamming applications, but then I decided to really hone in and just focus on what I'm good at and that's product and content marketing. Nearly 60 or so of my applications have been referrals so my network is pretty used up too. I've also been to maybe 10-12 tech and marketing networking events since getting here, even hanging out around NYU and Columbia's MBA students to see if they could refer me to any contacts they had from their previous roles. My network grew but nobody is actually hiring marketers.
Right now anything over $50k would help my family out with bills, even if it’s not the going rate for the city. But I’m surprised at how many people are suggesting that marketers should shoot for higher in NYC given my experience. I'll admit, I didn't enter into product marketing thinking I'd be making less than 6 figures by the time I was 5 years in but with COVID, inflation, all the stupid short-term contract roles and layoffs, yada yada yada; I'm not being picky. I just want to work for a good company, use my skillset, and provide for my family. I’m working part time as a content marketing associate for an app development agency so I’m keeping my resume up to date but it’s like an intern’s pay and like I said I’m coming up on 5 years of total experience; this current role isn't the most stimulating for me either. What can I do differently?
Also, here's my resume - destroy me or tell me what I can improve. Any help would be seriously appreciated. If anyone's in the NYC area and wants to meet up for a coffee or bagel, I'm so down at this point. I just need some help getting my foot in the door. Reddit has saved my ass a ton in the past, hoping I can find some answers here again! Thank you!!!
TLDR - I'm in NYC, working part time, with 4-5 years marketing experience, can't land a job, need some pointers. Thanks!

2024.05.15 22:27 SaltPepperPork Vehicle Service Contract for my 2017 Subaru Forester?

Hello All.
So my story starts from when my wife's '17 Forester was starting to reach 60K miles and needed to do the big 60k maintenance service. We have taken this car into the dealer for it's services since we bought it. The price vs convenience was not bad and they gave us several free oil changes throughout the years so we kept going back. So, back to the 60K maintenance service. The service was quoted to us for $1200. I could see that I could do most of it myself. We just got new tires 2 months ago so that part of checking the tires and rotating them was out. I did the oil/filter, cabin air filter, engine air filter, spark plugs, and checked all the fluids and refilled as needed. Granted I didn't replace the brake fluids but it still looked ok to me. the big things such as the front and rear differential oil change, i haven't done it yet since I've never done it for a Subaru. Reading up on it, not any different from other diff oil changes, which I've done before. CVT fluid replacement, well, everyone says to leave this to Subaru, so I will leave it to them.
been busy so i haven't had a chance to take the car in to do the "leave it to Subaru" parts. I just received a letter from the dealer service dept to give them a call "regarding the continuation of protection for [my] Subaru that [I] serviced with [them]." So based on the in-service date of my vehicle and mileage, which i think is pretty low for a '17 (60K so far) they recommend me to give them a call and obtain a Vehicle Service Contract to protect against financial cost of mechanical and electrical repairs.
I feel like we don't need this as we do maintenance on it on a regular basis and for my car, which we bought new as well (same dealer) they never reached out to give me this 'offer'. my car is even lower mileage for it's year. '12 mazda3 with 72k miles. no issues.
Anyone know what this is about? done this?

2024.05.15 22:26 dangerbayley Subaru / Ford / Nissan

Im looking for a new car around the c$15k - its pretty urgent as I just took a new job in the city and need to reliably commute. I previously had an older truck which is impractical and costly for driving to the city regularly.
Mainly looking for reliability, minimal repairs and decent MPG but also would like something that can handle logging roads etc as outside of work we're keen climbers and bikers so spend our weekends up and down rough roads.
Options are at the moment
2015 Subaru crosstreck XV - 150k km - $15k
2013 Ford Escape SE Ecoboost - 90k km - $11k
2017 Nissan Rogue SV - 101k km- $12k *rebuilt tittle due to replaced engine
Im aware that Nissan's and Subarus have the dreaded CVT transmission but the internet also seems to be full of Ford horror stories too (!!) and it goes without saying that I'll be asking A LOT of questions (especially with the Nissan to find out what happened with the engine), looking at history & carfax etc + taking at least one to an independent mechanic.
It would be great to get everyone's advice on what to look for or previous knowledge to help me make a decision.

2024.05.15 22:18 Desperate_Touch5927 CA residents getting $14000 for trade in around the end of summer

If you’re on the fence about the .99% and live in California, keep in mind that the state rebates are coming back in a couple months.
I’ve been watching the public town hall webinars for the public utility commission. There is a statewide program coming out in a few months that most closely emulates the clean cars for all program(basically cash for clunkers) that is currently only available in a few metropolitan counties. The difference with this program is that it would be state wide.
They are still finalizing the program but it involves trading in a working vehicle that has been registered in the state for at least two years. In exchange they’ll give you $10,000 towards the purchase of a bev, a 4% reduction on sales tax (around $2000), and $2000 in charging credits.
Will Tesla be accepted as one of their approved dealers? what are the income caps? I don’t know, but if Tesla resumes the inventory discounts of $5000 a couple months from now, you could be looking at an immediate upfront savings of $19,000.

2024.05.15 22:11 Technical_Risk7991 Solid Gig for Experience and Cash

So after bouncing around a few industries (food, b2b sales, human services and logistics) I've decided sales is my best avenue. So, I got a job selling cars starting in a couple weeks. At a low end luxury dealer(infiniti), largest dealership group in the area so I figure they'll have solid training and access to resources. Outside looking in, this will be a good way to gain sales experience and make a decent living (only making 48k now in logistics). I understand the hours thing I'm not worried about that aspect because I want to grind out experience and get as good as possible as fast as possible. So, I'm looking for advice on car sales, advice on industries in which this sales experience will be applicable, tips on getting the most out of the 46 hours I'm scheduled at this place and general positivity around sales as a career if possible. I've heard and read all the cons, give me some pros.

2024.05.15 22:09 bazingablake08 Stay or run: New BDR job?

Hi there askcarsales! Posing a question here for those with experience working sales within car dealerships.
I just graduated with my bachelors degree, but the local job market for my major isn’t great right now. I decided to put my digital marketing minor to use and search for marketing and sales jobs. The Business Development Representative position at a nearby dealership interested me. Now I’m considering leaving because of the low pay and difficult work.
Pay for the first three months is $2,825/month base, then down to $2,500/month (comes out to $17.65/hr and $15.63/hr respectively. Min wage is $12.30/hr). Commission is $25 per appointment that shows, $10 per influenced sale.
Should I decline the offer before my first day or stick with it for a while? I was interested before I learned just how low commissions for appointments and sales were. To meet my debt/moving goals I want $20+/hr, plus I know this work can be difficult.

2024.05.15 22:06 FarYou1548 Torque Converter replacement

Looking to see if any of the group have replaced this part on their engine - what route they took, how they compared costs, etc.

TL;DR - I have a seized torque converter on my engine that was discovered while Subaru Dealership near me was assessing another issue - loose cam seals, causing an oil leak from the pan (if i have that all correct)
Vehicle is 2019 Outback Touring with 64k miles.
Long version: Cam seals were covered by an extended service warranty (3rd party - Endurance brand) -- however it turns out the torque converter, is not covered (still waiting to hear why not on that one).
OEM part quote from dealer is ~$650. They will use a 3rd party part if i supply it, but of course no warranty on the labopart thereof (which i think i'm on the risk friendly side and willing to save $500 now, as i'll probably only keep the car for 3-5 more years).
Of course i'm going to approve the labor to proceed this week in either case, as I won't want to pay additional labor afterwards, when the dealer is offering to include the labor now (along with the other coverage replacement of cam seals) and only charge for the part.
Curious if there is any insight that can be gathered from the group. Thanks!

2024.05.15 22:06 mil8D how to sell my car & get a new one??

hey yall, i come from a family of extremely non-car-savvy people and i legitimately have no clue how anything car-related works, so i need some advice explained to me like i’m a kindergartener LOL. i am a smart guy but when it comes to cars i’m like a martian.
so in 2021 i got a brand new Hyundai Venue. I make monthly payments on it. So i don’t really own it yet. The car is perfectly good, but I really want to be someone who goes car-camping, and the Venue is just way too small to do that comfortably. I also am realizing that Hyundais generally have a lot of issues down the line and kinda want to switch to a brand that is less likely to start needing repairs all the time (which is…? Ford? Honda? Toyota?? Subaru? Help 🤲)
So here are my questions:
  1. How do I sell a car that I’m actively making payments on? Like, literally what do I do? Do I call Hyundai and ask if I can sell it back to them ?? Or do I try to sell it privately online to a random person? And if i do the latter, how does that work in terms of the Hyundai payment?
  2. What the hell brand of car should I get? I don’t have a lot of money. I want to go car camping. I would prefer AWD and something with excellent safety ratings. And Apple Carplay would be helpful. Also for context I live somewhere that it never snows and rarely freezes over.
  3. Also while I’m at it, can someone point me in the right direction about HOW to buy a used car? I have literally no clue how to do it safely & without getting scammed. I would love to not lose money lol

2024.05.15 21:58 knowbody-special ULPT: How to get more when selling a car to a dealer.

So this actually happened to me by accident netting me an extra $2k
Go on trucar and input your car info. However, when you input your car info use a vin for a different car with better options or even a year newer (think 4wd, bigger engine, higher trim etc.) Dealers will send you offers based on the vIn.
In my case I had entered the into for a car that was newer and higher trim. When I noticed I resubmited the form. I got offers from the same dealer for both cars and made an appointment to have the car inspected fully expecting the lower offer. They accidentally looked at the higher offer for the wrong vin and gave me that. Double checked the vin on all the paperwork and it matched. I saw the car for sale 2 weeks later for right around what they paid me for it.
I know private party will get you more, but it was a $40k car with a loan, much easier to go through a dealer.

Just got hired at Ford and I was wondering if anyone has any experience working at a Ford dealership? How's your volume as a salesman? What should I expect, and how's the culture at Ford dealerships? This is my first time in car sales. Im a little nervous but excited for the opportunity to make $$$

2024.05.15 21:45 superkruper How much is it worth? 2008 2.5 XLE ann. ed. ~215K km on last legs

Hello, please be gentle! I am not car savvy - though my dad (who lives in another province) and a couple male friends are. I purchased my vehicle in 2020, and it had two previous owners. I put new all weather wheels on it last year, a new muffler, and it has a roof rack/bike rack/hitch. I take it in for regular maintenance. I have driven it over the Canadian Rockies three times, there and back again, and done some exploring throughout Vancouver Island.
At time of purchase in 2020 it had had:
But it now has (so I've been told) several "classic" Subaru issues. The transmission is slipping (most noticeably between 3rd and 4th gear), the head gaskets are leaking, two of the wheels have loose bearings with some rust issues (I live on the PNW of Canada), the A/C doesn't work, and the cruise also doesn't work. There are a couple smaller bumps and scrapes to the body. The dings are my fault, (telephone pole caused a small crunch to rear left panel, and parking lot dent to driver's side door), whamen moments, I fully own it. It's never been in a collision.
Overall, it's a bit sad. I paid $7K CAD (cash) in 2020 for it, which at the time was a good deal. I want need to buy a new vehicle as this one is only going to last so long and I try to not take it over 60km/h.
Any idea how much it's worth? Any other info I haven't included that would be helpful? Suggestions for where to take it to get it assessed? Should I just ask my auto shop what they think? The car market is crazy everywhere, but especially on Vancouver Island, as it's not a big place. I've tried to look up on autotrader what people are asking and I'm hoping I can get $1-2K CAD for it - is that unreasonable?
Feeling overwhelmed and came to reddit as a security blanket. Thanks!!!
