Age 22. I was dealing with penile pain and urethra inflammation a few days after intercourse with a new partner, urgent care thought of chlamydia and prescribed me doxycycline. I finished it and the inflammation and penile pain is gone but I’m now dealing frequent urination and it seems leakage as well. I’ve been peeing between 7-10 times a day. I got tested for STD for the second time and I explained my situation so they checked my prostate and it was not swollen, Both STD test did come back negative as well. I’m a bit worried because of the small dribble leakage. Any advice and direction would help a lot.

I did EASE expansion with Dr. Kasey Li. This is what my EASE experience has been like.
This is a pretty niche and long post, but I’ve been going through this expansion process as a 32 year old woman, going through my first week of expansion. I figured I’d share my experience as I know how much I was eating up these posts during my research. I also made a video that's a bit less detailed if that is more digestible.
Here is a breakdown of my experience day by day.
Day 0, Wednesday:
Had surgery at Stanford hospital and aside from a mild billing heart attack they gave me, it was a great experience. Kind, knowledgeable staff, great bedside manner. After surgery I woke up and could immediately breathe better. Nasal breathing feels like moving from a coffee straw to a regular size straw. Swallowing and talking were out of the question with the TPD in my mouth though. Took about 90 minutes to wake up and then I was released.
The first night was ROUGH. I maybe slept for 4 hours. Woke up repeatedly with bleeding. Finally stopped trying to sleep and reached out to Dr. Li at 6 am because my mouth was FULL of congealed blood.
Day 1, Thursday:
I was supposed to have my first follow up appointment on Friday, but due to the bleeding Dr Li came in bright and early at 6:30 am. He responded to my 6am text within 5 minutes and was like “How soon can you get to my office? I’ll be there”. We rushed over and he gave me some local anesthetic injections and cauterized the surgical site. He made sure I was very comfortable and that the bleeding had stopped before sending me home. The rest of the day went pretty smoothly. Swelling got much worse this day. Had to ice pretty much constantly to keep it down. Definitely uncomfortable but I had really good pain management.
Day 2, Friday:
Had my official follow up appointment and he turned the device for the first time. Turning was weird but not painful. Gave me some more injections as I had had a bit more bleeding on the opposite side. The swelling got intense this day. My cheeks were huge and hot and I was having a bit more jaw pain. Dr Li said my pain and swelling would peak around 48 hours and that was definitely the case. I just took my meds, rotated between ice and heat and overall had a smooth day with some bleeding again over night.
Day 3, Saturday:
Woke up with more (but far less) congealed blood in my mouth. Texted him at 9:20 AM to see what I should do and he texted back immediately saying meet me at the office at 10. Performed injections to stop the bleeding, cauterize, rinse and repeat. He sends me home. Still eating only a liquid diet. Still swollen. But not uncomfortable like it was. Not really icing much at this point, mostly focusing on heat, and feeling pretty human. Can go on walks and had a tiny bit of pasta (the most solid food I’ve had at this point). There is a tiny bit of bleeding at one point but it stops quickly and I go about my day pretty much normal and for the first time have no bleeding through the night!
Day 4, Sunday:
Slept great, no blood. Swelling still very present but going down. Was able to walk around, get around the city, virtually no jaw pain until about 4 pm when truly out of nowhere my incision site where the appliance is placed starts bleeding AGAIN. I quickly try to gently catch the blood by packing in gauze trying to stop the bleeding and avoid going into the office as it was Mother’s Day.
It bleeds through the gauze for 1.5 hours and I finally reach out to Dr. Li. He once again responds almost immediately and tells me I can come into the office or try and stop it, but that his preference is always to see patients in person. I try to get it to stop for about another hour with a couple false stops, but I’m unsuccessful yet again, so I make my way to the office where he meets me at almost 8:00 PM. He is very kind and understanding and just says “Shit happens, I’m there for my patients”.
He injects me, cauterizes it again, tells me I should stop talking advil as that can be an anticoagulant and is just very kind and understanding. I was supposed to have my second follow up on Monday morning, but he turns my device for me for the second time that night instead to try and avoid me having to go into the office again the next day. Turning is still uncomfy but not painful. He waits with me to make sure the site is stable, and then waits with me outside while wait for my ride.
Day 5, Monday:
Woke up with no blood in my mouth, swelling still going down. Pain levels very minimal. Breathing feeling smoother. My left TMJ (which I’ve had issues with in the past is more crackly and sore than usual, so I’m watching that carefully. So far so good. Just staying in bed and hoping to make it through the day/night with no bleeding.
Impressions so far:
I’ve had the most bleeding of any patient Li has had by far. Not totally sure what that’s about, and I’m sad I had to be the first, but the way he responds and handled my case made me SO HAPPY I just spent the money and went with him. No other doctor I've ever had has given me this level of care.
He is expensive, but he is worth EVERY penny because when you’re his patient, you feel like a priority. I traveled for the procedure (meaning 3 weeks away from home) and was really out of my element and comfort zone and had more complications than most of his previous patients (he said about 5% have repeat bleeding after surgery, but that the amount I had was an anomaly.)
My breathing is better, and will continue to improve as I expand. Even with the TPD device in that is taking up most of my palate, I have so. much. more. space for my tongue. It feels really good! My bite is weird now that my upper jaw is larger and that’s going to take some getting used to. And my TMJ is a bit sore.
Things to avoid week 1:
No straws. No vigorous exercise. No lifting over 10lbs. No hot foods/drinks. No hard/chewy foods. No nose blowing. I’d recommend staying away from herbs like garlic or ginger as they thin the blood I don't know if that was part of my problem, he said sometimes these things just happen and there was nothing I did wrong, but I'd just recommend staying away from any foods that can thin the blood and research them ahead of time. I'm vegan, and now I know that a lot of fruits/veg can thin the blood. So if you're veggie like me or try to eat a lot of "health foods" tread carefully. Have lots of gauze on hand.

I noticed a slight bump on my gum last night but tonight it has exploded in pain, yellow and red. I started having a panic attack because I’m scared of dying from a tooth infection. The abscess is above a tooth I had a root canal on last month. Do I go to the ER? Wait until morning? Can I die from this?

Long story short, I’m unsure if I’m lucid dreaming that I AP or if this really is what AP feels like. I suspect it is somewhere in between.
For context, I’m currently 31 and I’ve been into AP since I was around 13. When I was younger I used to be brainwashed by religion and it’s usual fear mongering bs (demons, possessions, etc), so although I was super into AP, I never actually tried and when I did, I would chicken out immediately and stop myself from separating. Honestly I still do sometimes, but it has gotten a lot better in the last 5-6 years.
Last night I felt myself disconnecting (I feel vibrations through my body and I roll out of my body). I went up to my boyfriend who was working at the computer in another room, and I saw him watching a podcast on YouTube and some specific things. I also tried writing with a pen that was on the table - no idea why I thought I’d be able to do that. But it did “work”. Then I imagined myself going to my grandma’s house and my old house and I felt myself being swoshed (can’t describe it properly lol) to these places. I could tell right away that they were off but it was still amazing.
Sometimes it feels like I’m heavy and can’t move properly and sometimes I can’t see at all. I’ve been managing to improve this, but still, what doesn’t sit right with me is that my surroundings are never “correct”. For instance the houses were not in the correct place, there were weird trees shapeshifting, what I saw my boyfriend doing was wrong, there are no pens on the table, etc…
Why is that? Am I simply dreaming that I’m projecting? This happens a lot. And the duration is also always a bit short (like 10 min max, I’d say). And things do feel kinda hazy like a dream. I am an “experienced” lucid dreamer, I have been doing it since I was a kid, and I honestly can’t tell the difference besides the way it “starts” and the idea that I’m leaving my body… But everything else feels the same to me.
Oh actually - this time I also felt some weird “numb / painful” sensations on my feet when walking around while projecting. And this one time I felt my lips burning. I never feels this things when dreaming. Is this by any means common?

38F 8 months post op ALIF L4L5 and my incision is so painful, it hurts to walk. My incision was supposed to be low like a c-section but it's basically an inch under my belly button on the left side of my abdomen. I can't stretch or pick up anything of substance without pain or a pulling feeling at my incision. All around my incision is very tender to the point it hurts to have jeans on. Also, my belly is so swollen I look pregnant. My spine surgeon thought it was a hernia but a general surgeon said I basically my incision healed poorly internally and I'll need pain medicine injected into the incision, an ablation, or a new incision done by a plastic surgeon. The bloating he said is due to nerve issues with my intestines (caused by the surgery) since they are close to my spine - and that I should take a laxative.
Has anyone had a similar experience? I was told 6 mons post op I would be living my best life but instead I can't even bend down and put on my shoes.

My cat is about 9 y/o. I noticed about a week ago that I could see this dark spot on the right side of her mouth. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain, is still eating properly, and is still always looking for cuddles. However, I know cats hide their pain well.
I finally was able to get her to let me open her mouth and see that it looks like her canine tooth is like sitting in a pocket in her gums?? I’m assuming this isn’t meant to happen but obviously I have no basis to assume that. Is this normal? Do you think she is in pain?
I can definitely take her to the vet, and am planning to anyway but figured that I should ask if this is something anyone has seen before and if I should be worried.

Can someone please explain that? Like why she’s so proud of her black mouth? She will open open her entire lip and stick her gum all the way out with no care in the world. No embarrassment at all.

So Kvothe knows the name of something that has no name. Speaking the name of a thing which has no name leaves only... silence. Which can apparently create harmonies. To be clear, I don't think actual silence is the name of music, because that doesn't make sense, it's not a name. I think that silence is needed to heaknow the name of music because music is its own name. Maybe not all of it, not every piece, but music's name can only be "spoken" through music.
Okay whatever, fairly flimsy, I know, but for the sake of argument assume I'm right. How does Kvothe know the name of music? Yes he's a very accomplished musician, but there are many more who are as or more accomplished even just in Imre. To know a name, you need to learn about a thing for days, weeks, sometimes years. Long enough that your sleeping mind awakens and absorbs all that there is to know about it. If only there was a period of Kvothe's life where his waking mind was asleep and he did nothing but play music for hours on end...

...my mind used the first door [the door of sleep] to numb the pain. The wound was covered until the proper time for healing could come. In self-defense, a good portion of my mind simply stopped working - went to sleep, if you will.
Of course I played. It was my only solace.
Eventually I could play from when I woke until the time I slept.
I began to play something other than songs... I would play until I got the feeling right.
I remember spending three whole days trying to capture Wind Turning a Leaf.
Somewhere in the third month, I stopped looking outside and started looking inside for things to play.

To me, this is similar to the way he describes watching the wind until he saw its patterns and thus learning its name.
But hang on, music can't be it's own name, then everyone would be hearing a name every time it's played. That would surely do something to them; names have an effect on people after all. They stir something in them, make them feel moved strangely (see: whenever Elodin speaks; when a name is spoken but the person hearing it doesn't know the name; etc). If only music did the same thing.
"Thin, Albannach, very thin," I hear you say. And I'm with you. Surely, if Kvothe knew the name of music it would have more of effect on him. Let us turn to when he calls the wind the first time:

He looked at me. His dark eyes steadied me somewhat. Slowed the storm inside me. "Aerlevsedi," he said. "Say it."
"What?" Simmon said somewhere in the distant background. "Wind?"
"Aerlevsedi" Elodin repeated patiently, his dark eyes intent upon my face.
"Aerlevsedi," I said numbly.
...
His eyes caught mine. The numbness faded, but the storm still turned inside my head. Then Elodin's eyes changed. He stopped looking toward me and looked into me. ... He leaned forward and his lips brushed my ear. I felt his breath. He spoke... and the storm stilled. I found a place to land."

Is there a parallel with music? When is there not in this story. Many times, Kvothe refers to his music keeping him grounded and sane. Besides the detail above about him playing during his time in the woods and it allowing his mind to heal, I'll pick out one or two. After he got his lute back when Denna took it:

"With my lute back in my hands, the rest of my life slid easily back into balance.

Or playing at the Eolian:

"Offstage I worry and sweat. Onstage I am calm as a windless winter night."

Going back to the initial evidence about the discussion with Elodin. That comment about the road and the map that shows it is interesting. Sounds a bit like his chat with Tempi about the Lethani.

"What is the purpose of the Lethani?" Tempi asked.
"To give us a path to follow?" I replied.
"No," Tempi said sternly. "The Lethani is not a path."
"What is the purpose of the Lethani, Tempi?"
"To guide us in our actions. By following the Lethani, you act rightly."
"Is this not a path?"
"No. The Lethani is what helps us choose a path."

A slight addendum theory that plays into the bigger picture here: the Lethani is a way to invoke the mental state Kvothe calls Spinning Leaf, which enables people to better know/learn names, as we see Kvothe do multiple times. This is not an accident. The Adem, like the Edema, are descended of the first namers, and the Lethani comes from that heritage... just as music comes from the Edema heritage. The Edema music comes from Illien (who could be any number of namers/shapers who pop up in the stories: Lanre, Tarborlin, Iax, etc). What better evidence that music is its own name than the greatest Ruh (equivalently, the greatest of what became of the original namers) being the greatest musician travelling the world to show people the way.
In summary: music is its own name and to hear it and know it you need silence. Why else would Kvothe keep silence so heavy around himself at the Inn? (yes okay I know there's lots of other reasons he might but that's not the point of this theory)

I’ve been experiencing a ton of different symptoms for a while, for over two years I’ve had a lot of gastrointestinal distress like constipation and diarrhea, severe stomach cramps, gas and gas pains, nausea, etc. For the past year or so I’ve started to feel really run down and sick, like I have the flu or something. I’m always fatigued and resting doesn’t help, I have muscle pain all the time especially in my back and jaw, aching and cramps in my legs and arms, I’m always overheated and sweating, I get unexplained skin issues like rashes and redness, my lymph nodes feel sore and sometimes swollen, I have tachycardia. Just generally I usually do not feel physically well.
I’ve been seeing a new therapist for probably about a month. I’ve been talking to her about how my health issues have been affecting me and how tiring it can be to deal with doctors and how being fatigued and in pain 24/7 makes it really difficult to go about my regular life. I just checked the billing paperwork from my last session and realized she diagnosed me with Hypochondriasis. And I’m kind of spinning out now, like is she right, am I just making all of this up, what if I’m just crazy and paranoid and delusional??
It’s just that I never used to feel like this, like obviously I’d be tired sometimes and get headaches or stomachaches occasionally like a normal person, but I felt overall physically well. But now I feel like I’m sick or in pain a lot of the time, my muscles and joints are always intensely hurting and aching, I’m constantly having painful GI episodes that derail my plans and I’m stuck on the toilet feeling like I’m going to pass out, and the fatigue is not just tiredness, no amount of rest helps. I just mean that I didn’t used to feel like this, this isn’t my “normal”, my daily life is being disrupted because I don’t feel well.
But based on the diagnosis of hypochondriasis, it says you have a lot of symptoms but tests come back normal, which my blood tests haven’t shown any glaring issues so I guess that means it’s psychosomatic? And there are some symptoms of the disorder, like thinking and researching about your health and seeking out different doctors and tests, that I also have, because I have symptoms that are impacting my life and I want to figure out how I can feel better.
The diagnosis of hypochondriasis also says that you get anxious about minor symptoms like fatigue. But my fatigue is not a minor symptom, when I say fatigue I don’t mean tiredness or sleepiness, it’s like this constant heavy weight on me, it impacts my daily life because I feel too tired to do normal activities like school and work, and I can’t get through the day without sleeping, and even then I never feel rested. I feel so shitty thinking that my chronic fatigue is considered a minor symptom and I’m blowing it out of proportion due to hypochondriasis.
I’m honestly freaking out, my therapist putting that diagnosis on my chart makes me feel like I’m just insane and I’m questioning everything, I don’t know what to do or think. I keep getting told this is all in my head

So recently I’ve been having some issues. I’ve consumed a lot of drinks like Coca Cola and other things like that, and I have also been suffering with bruxism. I first realised my bruxism was becoming an issue because my gum swelled up and was very painful. Thankfully after wearing a mouth guard and cleaning regularly for a few days, the swelling and pain went away completely.
I went to brush my teeth a couple of nights ago and noticed my teeth looked very stained yellow which really shocked me. My teeth have also been feeling a little bit sensitive to fluids too. I am missing a front tooth (have done for years since my crown fell out) and I’ve noticed that there is a throbbing there sometimes. I realised this yesterday when I laid down, and also after I drank some water. I’ve noticed that when wearing the mouth guard I still bite down a lot and am thinking the pressure on my gums where my tooth is missing is the reason?
In general my teeth feel quite brittle with a dull ache currently, so I am going to stop drinking these fizzy drinks completely now and will take more care of my oral hygiene. I’ve just ordered a fluoride gel that I hope helps out a lot. I have a condition currently and am extremely intolerant to antibiotics so cannot go down that route at all so am quite worried in case of infection. Will salt water, cutting out fizzy drinks, wearing my mouth guard and better oral hygiene help the issues I’ve been having and allow me to regain the normal look & feeling in my teeth again?

I’ve been dealing with persistent, painful lip and chin eczema for almost 2 years, with my chin being worse lately. I had 2 painful flares last month and needed steroids each time because even eating was painful. I got a mito red panel, and started using it May 1. This past Friday I started to get another flare, but by bumping up the red light use to morning & night since then, my flare immediately started healing and never got worse than day 1 redness/dryness/pain. I’m cautiously optimistic, but thinking this could be my solution! I also use elidel at night, and will keep that up too.

The short version is im curious about how people with gout feel after they've recovered from an attack. Is it just you have the attack, recover and go back 100% to normal until the next attack? Or are there any lingering issues in the joint.
I ask because I was recently diagnosed, and after dealing with the pain for a couple of weeks my foot/ankle still feels a little off. A little tight around the skin, can get a little swollen if I'm sitting around too much etc.
Just wanted to confirm what other people with gout experience, because most information only talks about the attacks and intense pain.
I should also point out it took about a month from the attack to the diagnosis, and I changed my diet after the diagnosis, so my uric acid levels would have been consistently high/increasing during that time

40 yo female. 5'3" 115lbs. No pre existing health issues outside of this kidney stone. Daily meds are Slynd, Flomax, and pain killers.
3mm stone in the right distal ureter diagnosed by CT on 4/30. I presented with lower pelvic pressure/UTI symptoms. No flank pain. In a 2 week time span, I've had 2 episodes of severe 10/10 flank pain about 2 hours apart. Leading up to and between, my kidney hurt and felt swollen. Then it all just disappeared. A few days later I was passing tiny blood clots and had blood in my urine. Confirmed by 2 different urinalysis. In this time I was having intermittent pelvic pressure and UTI feeling.
However, the past 4 days I've woken up with flank pain. It typically passes with aleve within half an hour. This morning it did not pass and was on my kidney, my hip, and the right side of my stomach. It was significant enough I thought it was a precursor to another 10/10 episode. It has since died down but a dull ache has remained all day. I may be having visible hematuria again...not 100% sure.
It was not visible on xray and I had an ultrasound on Friday that showed no hydronephrosis and no hydrometer..
Why am I just now having flank pain and what point do I need to return to an ER?
