Making this as anonymous as I possibly can but I could really use some advice. This last year has been the most stressful of my life and now I’m not sure how to move forward with my career.
Just over a year ago I was employed at a fairly major retailer. I supported a unionization effort in the store and in the fallout of the resulting drama, I was fired. Naturally, my employer did not claim they were firing me for my part in forming a union and instead gave another reason. A ULP (unfair labor practice) charge was filed for this incident and hopefully that will clear some things up. But it’s been over a year now and my case has not seen any significant progress.
After my firing, I was offered work in assisting with the union organizing drive and that’s what I have been doing for the last year on a contract basis. That contract is ending soon and I am, bluntly, panicking about what comes next. As I see it I have two options:
Option A is that I can continue my work as a labor organizer if I can move from contract status to full time employment. I care deeply about this cause and I find it genuinely fulfilling to care so much about what I do to make a living. Working largely from home has also been a serious perk, having the time to tend to household chores and being able to see my partner more has been amazing. However, on the flip side, this last year has been extremely challenging and chaotic and has taken a massive toll on my mental health. As a result of my being employed on a contract basis, I have not received the same level of training or support that others in similar positions receive and have often felt like I am left to make it up as I go along. I also have not received the equipment that others in similar positions receive. Usually those doing this work are given a work phone, a work laptop, and a work email. I have not gotten any of these things. This adds to the chaos because I feel cannot ever really “get away” from work due to having to use my personal phone number, laptop, and email for all of my work related contacts. Working primarily with retail employees, my hours are irregular and I often work more than 40 hours a week and on weekends. I have also not taken any personal time off for any sort of vacation this last year. I have naturally felt like this job was safe harbor after being fired from my previous position and I have wanted to maintain a good reputation and the financial stability that comes along with it. Lastly, it came to light a few months ago that full time employees doing the exact same work I do make significantly more money than me. Like, roughly 30,000 dollars more in annual salary. I obviously have a lot of feelings about this information but mostly I feel very exploited. In another scenario, I’d like very much to address these differences in compensation with a supervisor. But given that I was fired from my last position, I’ve felt like I don’t have a voice to speak up. I feel like I should just be grateful that I have a job at all. If I am hired on full time, which is being discussed, my pay would match that of other full time workers in this position. That would be an absolute game changer for my partner and I in terms of financial stability. But the chaos of the last year and the near nonexistence of any sort of work life balance has me terribly anxious about wether or not this position is the right fit for me, even with the potential increase in pay.
Option B is that I could look for another job. But like so many others on here, I haven’t the faintest clue where to start. My experience before this position has been largely dominated by retail. And while I have definitely picked up a diverse range of skills over that time, I have no clue how to leverage them in a job search or what to even search for. But the thing that scares me most is that, having been fired from a retail position and having worked in union organizing for a year after that, I will basically be blacklisted most anywhere I could think to apply. Being fired, even if that firing is being actively contested by the NLRB, is not a good look on a resume. And as much as I may wish it were otherwise, most places to work likely aren’t going to love that I have been so deeply involved in union organizing either.
I know my situation is one amongst far too many. But I feel lost, I feel trapped, and I feel like I don’t know where to turn. I’ve considered going to career counselors for advice but they seem mostly geared towards helped college graduates find jobs and less inclined towards someone in my situation. I’d love to continue working from home but I know that’s a difficult and highly competitive thing in and of itself. At the same time I cannot move for a new job as we just recently relocated for my partners career.
Any advice is deeply appreciated. I have no idea what to do.

Nobody really paid the changes any mind at first. We all assumed they were nothing but minor ailments. The kind you’d barely acknowledge and, more often than not, keep to yourself and expect to fade with time. I did at least.
It was nearly a year ago when I first noticed a change. It was getting late, I’d just gotten home from work and had headed straight for the shower. As I lathered myself, I noticed a pimple on my thigh. At least, it looked like one. It didn’t freak like one. It felt hard like acrylic. I didn’t pay it much mind.
A few weeks later I went to get my annual checkup at the doctor’s office. After he measured my height, the doctor told me I’d shrunk nearly half an inch. We laughed it off. I was getting up there in years afterall. I also noticed, if only for a moment, a bump on his forearm alot like the one on my thigh.
There came a time when the bumps could no longer be dismissed. They continued to appear all over mine and others’ bodies one after another. Eventually it became a topic of conversation, and soon every government had to make a statement. They were all along the same lines. They had no explanation for what was happening, but they said they had their top scientists working on it.
At work I noticed myself struggling a little to type on my computer. It seemed my fingers, save for my thumb, refused to move independently from one another at times. Not often enough to be a real hindrance, but enough to annoy me. A few of my coworkers were having the same issue, and we assumed we’d gotten carpal tunnel or something. We petitioned to get better keyboards, and that seemed to solve the issue. It must’ve been placebo.
After a while, everyone had encountered similar issues with their hands and lost enough height to notice, but not quickly enough to completely disorient us. It became hard for anyone to deny the changes without lying to themselves. We were afraid. I know I was at the very least, but we could only try our best to go about our lives as normal. We hadn’t completely lost hope yet.
Scientists tried their best to prevent us from reaching a point of no return. That is, until their fingers fuse together and they could no longer use their equipment. We were all forced to abandon our work and our passions as our bodies became incompatible with the society we’d built, and it collapsed as our human desires faded.
One day, I decided I needed to see my mother, as I found that even my love for her was fading. She was hesitant, afraid to see what had become of her son. I could hardly recognize her when we met. All her hair had fallen out like the rest of us. Her face was unnaturally wide and her eyes were beady. It was nothing I hadn’t noticed changing about myself in the mirror. When we met in front of my childhood home she tried to give me a hug, but her new body wasn’t built for hugging, and she ran inside crying. That was the last time I ever saw her.
Our skin hardened and segmented as our bones dissolved, and soon we found ourselves shambling sideways through the streets. First on two feet, then four, then six, and then eight. We’d all given way to instinct as we began to make our way to one place. We knew the human world was no longer our home. We knew we belonged to the sea.
I scuttled for miles past everything I was leaving behind. The office building where I used to work, the doctor’s office, my old highschool, my childhood home, and the hospital where I was born. The memories they evoked didn’t register as my own. I shrank smaller by the day, and the distance between me and the ocean seemed to grow at the same rate, but I never stopped for more than a moment.
Eventually, the sea stretching into the horizon was within view. As my claws first grazed the shore all memory of what it was like to be human washed away, and as I first submerged beneath its salty waters I knew my transformation was complete. I knew what we’d become. I knew what I’d become. I was a crab.

I (26F) is currently with (37m) for over 4 years despite dating for over 6 years. He has major insecurities and I'm somewhat a comedian on my socials. I post things that are not related to me. I'm a very private person with my life, just for insights into my "posts" it would include jokes about not cooking for men etc ( I prepare his meals and I love cooking). So therefore, doesn't relate to me. I work out of state sometimes and while I'm away, we're always arguing.
It's either about my workmates or him accusing me of sleeping with them or he brings up my past alomh with my ex's daily. I asked him recently to stop and let's just focus on our relationship. Now to the issue at hand. My last seen is on Whatsapp and he messaged but I was busy on the phone showing my workmates photos of my son in my mom's chat since I'm away then I placed my phone to charge. Well, I got messages about texting someone else and he can see yhe last time I'm active. Well, I wasn't in the mood for an argument so I explained the situation but he went on to say I'm lying. I took off my last seen right after that to avoid arguments because I didn't want to argue while being more than 12 hours away.
Well, today another issue was at hand. My posts again, he said "you be posting a lot of shit and I shouldn't have to tell you what's appropriate" well. I took the easy road and I just hid my statuses from him. Because I do post a lot, he asked if I hid my status from him, I told him yes and it's to avoid us arguing while I'm away because he's finding an issue with everything. After I got back from work, I noticed that he deleted me from all of his accounts because I decided to hide him from seeing my statuses.

Well, I got messages about texting someone else and he can see yhe last time I'm active. Well, I wasn't in the mood for an argument so I explained the situation but he went on to say I'm lying. I took off my last seen right after that to avoid arguments because I didn't want to argue while being more than 12 hours away.
Well, today another issue was at hand. My posts again, he said "you be posting a lot of shit and I shouldn't have to tell you what's appropriate" well. I took the easy road and I just hid my statuses from him. Because I do post a lot, he asked if I hid my status from him, I told him yes and it's to avoid us arguing while I'm away because he's finding an issue with everything. After I got back from work, I noticed that he deleted me from all of his accounts because I decided to hide him from seeing my statuses.

The main reason I wear it is because it reminds me of my grandma, but admittedly, since it's a nice ring that can be easily mistaken for a wedding ring, people also often assume I'm married, which I consider a perk.
I don't go out of my way to lie usually, and if it's someone I actually know, I'll correct any assumptions that I'm married. But admittedly, sometimes it's nice for random guys to assume I'm in a relationship. A lot of men are just a lot less aggressive and more understanding about being rejected if they can see a ring on your finger.
Recently, a friend of mine introduced her boyfriend to our friend group. He saw my ring and asked about my husband, to which I explained that it's my grandmother's ring, and make a joke about the ring keeping creeps away.
He got really quiet and awkward after that and seemed to avoid me for the rest of the night. I didn't get why, to be honest, until my friend called me. She asked me not to wear my ring around him because he found it really tasteless that I was "pretending to be married" all the time.
From my perspective, I don't think it's my problem that people assume I'm married, or that it's convenient for me when they do, and it's not like I wear the ring just to trick people, it belonged to my grandmother!
My friend's boyfriend feels like I'm being dishonest and misrepresenting myself, though. He says that I'm appropriating a sacred bond by using it as an excuse not to talk to guys and being actively deceptive in the process.
To an extent, I see where he's coming from in that it might seem dishonest, but I don't think it's hurting anyone, and it's not like I'm going around lying to people I know about my relationship status.

I started thinking of ways to customize Colemak myself (ENOI seems better than NEIO, but then the whole right side gets messed up if I make that change). But then discovered the real analytical rabbit hole and realized I'm way out of my depth (I'm now in the Dunning Kruger pit)
So, I started researching other layouts on YouTube, by reading threads here, and through Google searches.

My background and requirements
- I'm a business analyst who wants to type more comfortably and quickly, so just care about typing words - Not a VIM user or coder
- Currently 60 WPM Qwerty on a cheap af keyboard.
- I've never cared or payed any attention to my typing speed or improving that skill. My ability has always been "good enough" for work.
- I realized that the keyboard is one of my primary tools at work, so I should invest in a better one. So I purchased a ZSA Voyager
- I want to learn a new physical skill to challenge my 36 year old brain, so I want a completely new layout (I'm optimizing for long-term benefit so don't care for the short-term pain - and actually would prefer more short term pain as want the challenge)
- I love to explore all of my options before committing to something. I also love optimising - I find the process enjoyable so would rather spend a few weeks testing different layouts, than "just use Colemak because diminishing returns going to anything else" (like a lot of the advice I see)
- I like to feel balanced, so want something that roughly uses both hands equally, and not overburdening any one finger.
- I love rolls because I used to play guitar hero and there is something so satisfying about it.
- I actually don't mind stretching my hands too much, and don't have any pain on qwerty
- I find the middle top and bottom rows quite awkward
- I've read that putting E on a thumb is good, and I think having it on left thumb, and space on right thumb could be great (I hardly use left thumb at all on Colemak DH)

I (26F) is currently with (37m) for over 4 years despite dating for over 6 years. He has major insecurities and I'm somewhat a comedian on my socials. I post things that are not related to me. I'm a very private person with my life, just for insights into my "posts" it would include jokes about not cooking for men etc ( I prepare his meals and I love cooking). So therefore, doesn't relate to me. I work out of state sometimes and while I'm away, we're always arguing.
It's either about my workmates or him accusing me of sleeping with them or he brings up my past alomh with my ex's daily. I asked him recently to stop and let's just focus on our relationship. Now to the issue at hand. My last seen is on Whatsapp and he messaged but I was busy on the phone showing my workmates photos of my son in my mom's chat since I'm away then I placed my phone to charge. Well, I got messages about texting someone else and he can see yhe last time I'm active. Well, I wasn't in the mood for an argument so I explained the situation but he went on to say I'm lying. I took off my last seen right after that to avoid arguments because I didn't want to argue while being more than 12 hours away.
Well, today another issue was at hand. My posts again, he said "you be posting a lot of shit and I shouldn't have to tell you what's appropriate" well. I took the easy road and I just hid my statuses from him. Because I do post a lot, he asked if I hid my status from him, I told him yes and it's to avoid us arguing while I'm away because he's finding an issue with everything. After I got back from work, I noticed that he deleted me from all of his accounts because I decided to hide him from seeing my statuses.
For some strange reason, I just felt tired and fed up because he's literally just being unreasonable. So I blocked him. Was I unreasonable for blocking him on every social platform after he deleted me? I just want peace and since I'm away for a few days, I'll enjoy the quiet. I know I'll see him because he's using my car etc but I just want out.

long story short, i would love to have midi keyboard for my DAW with DX7 keyboard (keys, feeling). the trick is i'm not buying original DX7 again - the main disadvantage is weight. i've never experienced more comfortable keyboard while playing than those on original DX7. Earlier this week my wife (22f) took a flight to Mexico for a trip that’s been planned for a few months now. Her main reasons of going are to… (1) connect with her grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins whom she has not seen much of during her life due to immigration statuses (2) to take on a nail tech course so she can do nails as a side business and help us save for a house (3) for a consult to do a balloon gastric operation
We have been together for 8 years this September & have been married for 4. Before she left, I did give my consent for her to travel because there was nothing else I could do about it. If I told her no, she would still go, albeit with an argument. But I can’t and wouldn’t force her not to go. But I can’t help but feel betrayed. I can’t go because of a new job I accepted earlier this year. It’s not like I can just tell them I’m gonna be gone for 2 months, even if I’m working remotely. Not to mention we have two cats and a dog at home. If I was able to go, I would bring our dog with us since the cats can be taken care of by my family at home.
I’ve found myself completely and utterly depressed, numb and in a state of derealization & pain. I feel betrayed because how could she leave me for so long, I know her reasons are legit, but i still feel hurt. I would never leave her for so long, even with the reasons she has, because I cannot even bear a minute away from her. I come home from work, take care of our pets, walk the dog, then the feeling of dread overcomes me. I try and distract myself with video games, but that was something we both shared. And now her gaming PC sits collecting dust. If I distract myself by cleaning, I soon find myself breaking down into tears because all her stuff is around me but she isn’t.
Before she left, I was numbing myself to this reality by smoking weed pens all day everyday for close to two months. I stopped when she left and have been going through withdrawals which has left me even more depressed, anxious, unable to sleep and eat. Whatever I do eat I end up throwing up and when I do try and sleep I wake up ever hour drenched in sweat and anxious. I never have & never will tell her about this so I don’t ruin her trip.
So far, this is day 3/60 that she’s been gone & into my withdrawals. She is able to FaceTime and text me throughout the day occasionally. But I feel like it’s not enough and I want her to come back. When I call her, I can’t help but cry over the phone and she constantly reassures me saying she loves me, she’ll be back soon, keep myself busy. But I can’t do this on my own, and god knows how she’s doing it. But since she’s constantly busy and around family, she has enough to keep her busy.
I love her so much and wish I could’ve gone with her, which makes me hate all of this even more. This will be my first weekend without her and honestly I’m not prepared. I feel such a huge sense of dread overcoming me and I fear that I’ll spend most of it crying, trying to call her, and probably annoying her in the process. I don’t have friends & have only confided in her with my deepest feelings. Which is why I’m using this as an outlet.
Am I wrong in my feelings? How can I do this without her….

What's good everyone, i'm looking for one of you experts to help me out here. I'm looking to finally upgrade to a gaming PC after using a Macbook for 8 years. I'm not looking for anything insane, just want something that can run COD really smoothly, edit videos and photos on with no issues, and just something that's all around gonna be worth the money, especially if I dont have to upgrade parts every year or so lol. I do not live near a MicroCenter and I already have an MSI monitor I use for my Series S so im just gonna use that with said future pc. As for the keyboard, I want to get the Aula F75 soon and for the mouse, I have absolutely no clue, I don't see a point in spending over like $30 on a mouse, mainly because if im gaming on it, im using my controller. RGB is a must, nothing too overboard, I don't want it to look like a carnival or some shit but still pretty to the eye. Any help will do, I plan on ordering the parts week by week, maybe two parts at a time, depending on pricing and whatnot.

I am 52 year old guitarist building a home studio. I’ve decided that since I have the time to start writing and recording, and that equipment for a home studio has never been more affordable, I’m going to do my own music. I have so much that I want to say, creatively. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m brushing up on my music theory, and shopping for the equipment and instruments I need.
What I am looking for from this group is education. I am hoping that you guys could point me in the right direction, and recommend a couple of books that I should read, because right now, I don’t know the difference between a bone saw and an oscillator. I need a strong base of knowledge to start building upon, including how programming and looping works, how custom voices are created, how a synth interacts with a DAW (Pro Tools is my DAW of choice), etc. I will be learning the piano, so as my proficiency of playing it grows, I’d like my proficiency using synths and keyboards to grow at the same time.
I’m a huge progressive rock/metal fan, and the music I write will be in that same vein. I know that there are plugins that will allow me to emulate a mellotron, or a Hammond organ, but that’s down the road.

Hi all, I am using vscodevim and I'm interested in trying Jupyter notebooks, but I am not able to see the output cells using keyboard shortcuts or tabbing or page-down or arrow keys. Is there a way to view the output cells without having to use my mouse's scroll wheel? Does it even make sense to try to use vscodevim in .ipynb files? My idea is that I would just have one code cell and one output cell, the advantage being I wouldn't have to keep switching back and forth between code tabs and output tabs, and also Python seems to run much faster in notebooks for some reason.
