2024.05.15 17:29 bvnnious 20/F/Netherlands looking for international penpals!

Hi everyone!
I'm a 20-year-old Vietnamese girl currently residing in the Netherlands, where I'm pursuing a degree in biomedical sciences as a freshman college student. In addition to my academic pursuits, I find fulfillment in volunteering at my local pet shelter and working as a medical assistant on the side.
My interests are varied and include reading, journaling, and indulging in a diverse range of music genres, from pop/rock and R&B to K-pop and alternative. I also enjoy immersing myself in Asian dramas and anime, and I have a passion for playing musical instruments such as the piano and guitar. In my free time, I love going on leisurely walks, delving into crime stories, learning new languages (currently Mandarin and Korean), and exploring new destinations through travel.
I've had several pen pals in the past, but as time passed, most of them drifted away. Now, I'm eager to reconnect with new pen pals and hopefully establish long-term friendships. I'm particularly interested in exchanging snail mail or postcards with someone outside of the Netherlands, preferably within the 18-25 age range.
Before transitioning to physical mail, I'd like to start by exchanging emails to get to know each other better. I'm open-minded and accepting of all identities and backgrounds. I value meaningful conversations and would love to exchange long letters/emails and occasional cultural gifts with my pen pals. I'm open to exchange letters/emails in Dutch, English, French and Vietnamese!
If you're interested in becoming pen pals and building a long-lasting friendship, feel free to reach out!

2024.05.15 17:01 namkook123 Losing hope

Hi. I am a pharmacy tech at the big three letter pharmacy. I have been trying to get out of retail for over a year. I had one interview with a hospital but got no call back. I had an interview with Cigna which was pretty weird and the hiring manager told me she straight up would not hire me, but refused to tell me why when I asked. Since then, I have been applying and have been rejected. I have my PTCB certification and am looking to get my sterile compounding cerf. as well. I am tired and I am losing hope. Now, there also haven't been many job postings. I signed up to volunteer at a major hospital near me, but my manager threatened to fire me if I went to the volunteer orientation. I don't know what else to do at this point.

2024.05.15 16:49 Lia_9306 Hola

Hello everyone, apparently many of us are in the same situation...he asked me for identity verification, I did it all through a video call with ID. They sent me the letter with the code that is later placed in the account that you created with more information, they sent me another letter that my identity was already verified and I still have not received my refund. Has this happened to anyone? And if you have already gone through this, what is the next step or how long did you wait for your return? Thank you very much....

2024.05.15 15:38 KremitOG Chances getting into UNE College of Dental Medicine as IS applicant?

I just finished my junior year undergrad at UNE's Biddeford campus, and plan on applying to their dental school this cycle. I am from Maine (in state applicant) these are some of my stats:

2024.05.15 15:09 AffectionateNeat6685 We're moving in two weeks and my (30F) boyfriend (33M) still doesn't have a new job, how do I handle this?

TL;DR My boyfriend and I are moving next month and he is no closer to finding work than when we started 8 weeks ago. We've talked about this many times and I feared this is where we would find ourselves and I don't know where to go from here.
I've been turning this over in my head for weeks and I'm hoping to get some outside perspective.
I (30F) have been with my boyfriend (33M) for three years. We're talking about marriage, we're talking about kids, we're building a life together. About two months ago, I was told I would be transferring to a city about 8 hours away to start a new position. I start in mid-June. This was an expected promotion that my boyfriend and I have discussed at length and he always intended to move with me. Since learning about the transfer, my boyfriend has been making arrangements to leave his job and find work in our new city....or at least he sort of is. He has let his current job know he's leaving, settled on a last day, made plans for a going-away party, etc. However, he is no closer to finding work in our new city. I don't know the specifics of his job search as he gets defensive when I bring it up, but I believe he's applied to about 3 jobs, one of which he's already been rejected from. I helped redesign his resume, I rewrote his cover letter, I connected him with someone in an adjacent field to network with (and to his credit, he went and talked with him). Still he's nowhere closer to finding work.
Now to be fair, his work is somewhat niche and the few places that have very similar positions in our new city are not hiring at the moment. However, he has not put in much effort to branch out beyond the *exact* job he does now. Mind you this is job he's talked about being bored of and ready to move on from for the entire THREE YEARS we've been together. In all of our conversations, I've encouraged him to find what it is he's actually passionate about. He talks about wanting to work outdoors but needing more experience...I point out that we have a lovely national park about 20 minutes from our house that he could volunteer at. He talks about wanting to work with computers but needing training...I suggest he take a free online course just to see if he likes it. He talks about going into teaching...then talks himself right back out of it. When I can no longer say anything new because we have the same conversation about this over and over, I suggest he see a therapist to work out why he can't seem to move in ANY direction. He saw one about three times and said he was nice but not super helpful. I can't help but wonder if once again my boyfriend is waiting for someone to do the work for him, even in therapy.
I don't know what to do at this point. I love this man, he is so kind, so loving, so supportive of me and my career. He makes dinner when I'm going to be home late, he does grocery shopping for us when I'm too busy, he sometimes takes care of the laundry. I just have a little voice at the back of my head saying that even though he goes above and beyond most of the men I've seen in my life, maybe I'm just seeing what an equal partnership actually looks like for once? And that it's actually not so equal if he can't even put in effort to find work. I know the job market sucks for a lot of people, but he doesn't even seem to be trying which is what grates on me. He just sends in his same old resume and same old generic cover letter and then oh well he hasn't heard back from them. And I know job hunting sucks when you're also working full time, but he's managed to watch plenty of sports and play hours of video games after work--maybe just sacrifice one hour a day for an application?
I'm feeling really unmoored here because we've seriously talked about marriage and kids in the next couple of years, and I want both of those things and both of those things with him, sepcifically, but I worry that this kind of pattern spells trouble for him taking on that responsibility. He and I have had this conversation ad nauseum so it's not an issue of communication. What do you think Reddit? How should I move forward with this?

2024.05.15 14:53 FindingAWay101 Struggling to even get entry-level jobs as a recent science grad in Melbourne

I'm a 21-year-old recent university graduate in Melbourne and I'm really struggling to find any kind of job, even entry-level part-time, casual or temporary roles.
I've been applying for heaps of these types of positions, but I'm getting nowhere. I might occasionally make it through to the video interview or assessment stage, which takes so much time and effort, only to get a generic rejection letter in the end.
I'm not just looking for jobs in my field of science either - I'm open to all sorts of entry-level roles, whether that's admin, customer service, you name it. But it seems like I can't even get my foot in the door anywhere.
Has anyone else gone through this challenge of trying to land that first job after graduating? The job market just feels incredibly competitive, even for the most basic positions. My resume is nothing basic either, I have experience, internships and extracurricular activities and volunteer roles.
If you have any advice on how I can improve my applications, stand out, or get my foot in the door somewhere, I would really appreciate it. I'm starting to get really worried about my future prospects and financial situation.

JUPITER, Fla., May 14, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dyadic International, Inc. (“Dyadic”, “we”, “us”, “our”, or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: DYAI), a biotechnology company focused on the efficient large-scale manufacture of proteins for use in human and animal vaccines and therapeutics, as well as non-pharmaceutical applications including food, nutrition, and wellness, today announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2024 and highlighted recent Company progress.
“We continue to execute our business strategy to focus on near-term pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical applications for our proprietary and patented C1 and Dapibus™ protein production platforms and pipeline products,” said Mr. Mark Emalfarb, President and CEO of Dyadic. “One of our key highlights was the successful completion of a Phase 1 clinical trial that met its primary endpoint of safety and reactogenicity affirming the safety of proteins produced by Dyadic's C1 platform in humans. We believe this milestone not only establishes the safety of our platform but also provides a solid foundation for C1 technology’s future applications in human and animal vaccines and therapeutics. With the H5N1 ('Bird Flu') virus outbreaks in poultry and U.S. dairy cows, along with one recent human case, we are seeing an increasing interest in our H5N1 'Bird Flu' ferritin nanoparticle human vaccine candidate, developed with ViroVax. Additional animal studies indicate that the vaccine candidate has the potential to generate high neutralizing antibodies for use in cattle. Our Q1 2024 achievements demonstrate our ongoing commitment to enhancing our microbial platforms for diverse applications, and our dedication to improving health for humans and animals, while tackling the challenges of sustainable food production.”
Mr. Emalfarb continued, “As we progress into the second quarter, our Company continues to focus on enhancing the Dapibus™ platform, designed specifically for non- pharmaceutical uses in industries such as food, nutrition, health, and other bioproducts. To accomplish this goal, we have honed our business development strategy, focusing on key areas where our technologies can deliver the greatest impact with shorter commercialization timelines. Our strategy includes simultaneously targeting multiple offtakes for a single product in several corresponding business segments and seeking out new opportunities that are in line with our strategy.”
Joe Hazelton, Dyadic’s Chief Operating Officer, elaborated, “In addition to operational advancements, we also strengthened our financial position with the issuance of $6.0 million in convertible notes, which will be used to accelerate and exploit our strategic objective of near-term revenue generating products and commercialization opportunities for pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical applications. We believe that product opportunities such as recombinant human albumin and alpha-lactalbumin provide Dyadic with multiple monetization opportunities as a licensed product or cell line in pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and food applications. We are confident that our strong position, both financially and scientifically, will enable us to implement our business plans with improved capabilities and resources. We are enthusiastic about our future prospects and remain committed to providing value to our customers and stakeholders.”

DYAI-100 Phase 1 Clinical Trial
DYAI-100, a C1-SARS-CoV-2 recombinant protein RBD vaccine candidate, is the first C1-expressed protein tested in humans. The Phase 1 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was designed as a first-in-human trial to assess the clinical safety and antibody response of DYAI-100, produced using the C1 platform and administered as a booster vaccine at two single dose levels in healthy volunteers. Following regulatory clearance from the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), the trial was initiated in 1Q 2023, with the last patient visit occurring in 3Q 2023. On November 29, 2023, the Company announced the top-line safety results, indicating that the study has met its primary endpoint that both the low and high dose levels of the vaccine are safe and well tolerated among participants. Additionally, the vaccine has been shown to induce immune responses at both dose levels, suggesting its potential efficacy in generating protective immunity against the target virus. The study has been finalized, and the final Clinical Study Report has been issued, demonstrating that the DYAI-100 vaccine met its primary endpoint of safety and reactogenicity.
~Animal Health Sector~
~Alternative Proteins Sector~
Dyadic is advancing a pipeline of differentiated product candidates that leverage its microbial protein production platforms, including Dapibus™ which have demonstrated the ability and efficiency to enable the rapid development and large-scale manufacture of proteins at low cost in a wide range of non-pharmaceutical applications and commercial use.

2024.05.15 14:02 ThrowAway7s2 "Sevastopol Spanish students Aided by Peruvian teacher" from the October 1, 1968 Door County Advocate

TEACHING SPANISH at Sevastopol high school is Luisa Contelli from Peru who is helping the regular teacher with classes and the students with their accent and pronunciation. She is shown above (on the swing) with Denise and Becky Volkmann. Luisa is a guest at the Lester Volkmann home while here. —Advocate

Sevastopol Spanish students Aided by Peruvian teacher

By FRANCES BADTKE
To paraphrase an old saying, "a long speech begins with a single word." And while we would not accuse Luisa Contelli of being "wordy," her English started not so long ago with a single word and she learned to speak English in just four months before she came to this country.
Luisa is a Spanish aid teacher at Sevastopol high school and is assisting the regular teacher with her Spanish classes and helping the students with their pronunciation and accents.
Her English is fluent with a pleasantly charming accent and a person talking with her would never suspect that she had not been speaking English, or perhaps we should say "American" for such a short time. She took an intensive four month course from the Peruvian North American Institute.
When asked if she had trouble with all our various ways of pronouncing the same letters she said, "to study English for me is very hard, to understand is even worse." And if we were to have to get along with people who spoke only Spanish, we would probably echo her words. So when you talk to her, speak slowly and clearly.
Luisa is staying with the Lester Volkmann family on Route 1, Egg Harbor, and she goes back and forth to Sevastopol on the school bus with the Volkmann children. Denise in the seventh grade and Becky in the eighth are especially thrilled that she is their guest while she is in Door county.
Before coming here she was at Concordia college camp where she taught Spanish. Her stay here will be for a total of six weeks, after which she will go on to Chicago, Arkansas, Washington state and California. She will stay for six weeks in each of six locations while in this country.
She will be showing slides at the PTA meeting at Sevastopol this Thursday evening and speak on her country and her experiences.
She has many slides of Incas, hand made materials, festivals and other familiar scenes from her homeland in South America. She is from Piura, Peru, and has three brothers and three sisters. Her father has a tropical plantation and grows cotton and rice.
Luisa herself worked in a bank before coming here. She had been in this country three times prior to this year, but had only spent about a month each time on a vacation. In 1963 she went to Mexico for two months and then to the U.S. for one month.
It never snows in Peru, except in the mountains, and since it is very warm there, usually she finds our cool days something she will have to get used to.
She plans to return to Peru in June, 1969, although she may stay for another year if she likes. But already she is getting just a little lonesome and is anxious to see her family and friends again. She is grateful and thrilled to be here and says "It has given me an opportunity to learn many things."
She writes out a report every week of what she has done, both in her work as a Spanish aid teacher and in her off hours. She writes her impressions of our country and tells what she has been doing and with whom.
Last weekend she visited another teacher at Sevastopol, Mrs. Mona Orthober, and her family. Mrs. Nicholson, also Spanish speaking, was there from the University at Madison.
She is surprised at the youth of some of our bridegrooms and brides and said that in Peru they are about 24 before they feel they are ready to take on the responsibilities of marriage.
One of Luisa's friends in her home town of Piura is the present Miss World, Madeleine Hartog, a stunning, stately brunette. Luisa attended Madeleine's sister's wedding before she came here and Miss World was one of her sister's bridesmaids. Madeleine's sister was named the best secretary in Peru in 1965.
Miss World is crowned each November in London, England, and in November, 1968, Luisa will be able to watch her friend on television as she crowns the new Miss World and hands over her ermine trimmed cape and golden scepter.
Luisa and Miss World
When Luisa speaks to the PTA Thursday, she will also have some things from her country to show. Among these are lovely filigree jewelry In both silver and gold, intricately worked and beautifully designed.
Special families in Peru make certain types of jewelry only and they pass their skills and patterns on to their children and their children's children, keeping them always in the family.
She is the guest of the Lester Volkmanns who volunteered to have her and the family is taking her places around the county to see the scenery and meet different people. All the five children have enjoyed having her in their home. As Luisa said, "I will take my best 'remembers' from Egg Harbor." We can't ask more than that of any visitor.

2024.05.15 12:43 Its_science_fools Not all scouts got PLC roles

I am the SM of a troop of 86 scouts. This term, for the first time, the SPL decided that not all scouts who requested a PLC role would get one.
REQUEST - I would like advice about how to handle this situation. Should everyone who wants a role on the PLC get one?
There are not enough PLC roles to go around. The new PLC already has 2 ASPLs and 4 instructors. Multiple scouts all wanted to be the scribe, historian, or social media chair (webmaster).
So who didn’t get a role?
1 - A Life scout who has not been on an overnight outing with the troop in over a year. They have over 2 years until they turn 18. They do not have cooking or camping MB.
2 - A Life scout who was the SPL last term. They acted immature during outings and meetings. At their last PLC meeting they turned away from the meeting and pouted in a corner for a while. The other PLC members felt uncomfortable with this behavior and so several didn’t want them on the PLC. They need 2 more months of leadership to get eagle, and have 2 years before they age out.
3 - A first class scout who was on the PLC for their first time last term as that Bugler, because all other positions were filled. This scout didn’t get a position this time because there were so many requests and they did not actually fulfill the role last term. They did not bugle at all. …their sibling did get on the PLC.
4 - A Life scout who was on the PLC last term but didn’t complete their role and did not fill out the Google form that was sent out to request a position. Despite emailed reminders. They have enough leadership credit to Eagle. They also have two years before aging out.
Ok please let me know what you think. Thank you!
Edit: My question was a bit vague, sorry. What I meant was. How do I handle the fallout of scouts not getting onto the PLC, for the first time? And their parents. Especially their parents.
Some additional context -
This is the first time our troop has not just had everyone on the PLC who wanted to be there. So it is a source of conflict and swirl for the scouts.
I have been wood badge beaded. Many scouts have been to NYLT and Al have been encouraged to go. Yes, I am new at this, this is my second year. I value your help, sharing your knowledge and perspective. And to keep myself sane I guess ;) I’m so stressed out.
To be clear I am not going to reverse the SPL decision. Their original choices are the ones that were sworn in. My request is more about how to handle the intense swirl and upset that’s now going on in the troop. And parents too of course.
Scout 1 has been emailing that they have AP classes and will be too busy and want to finish their eagle now. I know this is the mother pressuring the scout.
Scout 2 was telling other scouts, at the COH, that they didn’t get a position because the new SPL doesn’t like them. (Which doesn’t improve their situation…). And Scout 2 parent has been sending negative letters to the SPLs mother, and threatening to leave the troop. This scout and their family have been very involved in the troop, as a founding member and volunteers. Both parents are ASMs. This behavior is upsetting to me and others, so I’m looking for advice on how to handle it.
Edit edit: so far in our troop all positions of responsibility have been thought of as part of the PLC. We have talked about how many of these roles are not really part of the PLC. The scouts have preferred to include all of these roles at PLC meetings. So our PLC so far has included roles like outdoor ethics guide etc. to explain how I am using the term PLC.
Edit edit edit. Our terms are 6 months
Edit edit edit edit. THANK YOU so much for all the reassurance. And for sharing your wealth of experience. I’ve been so stressed out. I feel much better now. Thank you thank you!!

2024.05.15 09:01 Excellent-Drummer-62 Awarded First Class Medical after history with Depression and Medication

Hi everybody,
disclaimer: Nothing I say in this post is necessarily true, and in NO WAY, do I condone anyone following in my footsteps or referencing anything I say in this post to the FAA/AME... but with that being said:
New to this reddit, but Just wanted to make this post to any future pilots who are going through a similar situation to what I have, about Depression, Anxiety, antidepressants, Therapy Etc.
To start this off... If you are an aspiring pilot, wanting to eventually work in the airlines, corporate, military, or basically anything that makes money, you need an "FAA First Class Medical" This is a non-negotiable aspect of aviation, that any pilot you see had to earn, but also maintain every year.
If you are not aware yet, the FAA takes mental health issues very seriously and almost always tends to disqualify or defer pilots who have had, or continue to have these issues (Bipolar disorder, Depression, ADHD, Anxiety, etc)
My personal story is that I have always wanted to be a pilot, but never really thought to start my training until more recent years, which also happened to coincide with the beginning of my depression/anxiety diagnoses, for which I was medicated on a few different antidepressants (prozac, zoloft, wellbutrin) over the timespan of 1.5 years. During this time I was regularly visiting a psychiatrist for psychotherapy and a regular therapist, along with my pediatrician at the time (I was 16-18).
In regards to my diagnosis: In my own opinion, my depression was a result of my environmental and lifestyle issues, which resulted in my diagnosis later being classified as "adjustment disorder with anxiety." This is a factor that I believe helped me later on in this story.
WIth 100% honesty, I never had any suicidal intentions or any dangerous thoughts that would ever truly make me a liability in the cockpit, as I understand why the FAA is careful around people with this type of history, so I will say that if you are reading this, and you do fall under this category, I would highly recommend doing some introspection about your mental health, and if you deem yourself capable to hold the lives of potentially hundreds of people in your hands, as this can be serious issues down the road.
I would say I am definitely on the safer side of the world of mental health issues, as some of you may have much more serious conditions or history, like suicidal ideas, bipolar disorder, ADHD (depending on if you take medicine/are diagnosed). Unfortunately, The cases mentioned above are much harder to get past to earn your medical, and I would not be able to advise you in those situations, although I believe a "HIMS AME" is the person you would go to for help in that department.
Going back to my story, however...
After learning that being on antidepressants would not allow me to be a pilot, I realized that I had essentially made a grave mistake in getting medicated for a diagnosis that I was not even confident I had, and was extremely upset by this. That was the moment I started going online to find people who had been through similar situations, and the reason why I am now writing this post.
To clarify, I never personally felt as though the medication was doing anything for me, and always wanted to get off, but I was always at the mercy of my pyschiatrist's treatment plan, which basically required me to stay on medication for a certain period of time before getting off.
In NO way did I intend to intentially stop my use of medication, which is VERY dangerous, but I was out of the state for about a month while doing some volunteer work, and unintentionally forgot to take my medication in the morning, which I did not realize for about a week (IT WAS ONLY SAFE BECAUSE MY DOSAGE WAS VERY LOW, OTHERWISE IF YOU STOP USAGE OF MEDICATION SUDDENLY YOU CAN HAVE SERIOUS PERMANENT BODILY DAMAGE).
Because I was doing very good with my life and my mental health, I opted to stay off medication with accordance to my psychiatrist, and from there on out was smooth sailing as far as my mental state. I would see my psychiatrist once a month as a check up, and always reported my positive state of mind. About 7-8 months after that, this month, I decided to start my flight training, but more specifically my AME appointment.
I was already familiar with the process, which begins with you filling an AME form out on medexpress website, where you fill out all medical history. I will specify this one time and one time only:
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT LYING TO THE FAA!!!!!!!
No matter how desperate you are, lying to the government will always hurt you in the end, and a potential career in aviation is not worth it if it is based on a single or possibly multiple lies.
After filling out the form truthfully, with all my medical history as mentioned in the above texts, I went to my appointment, and talking with the AME, who was quick to start asking me about my mental health history, for which I was ready to explain. I was also able to get a letter from my psychiatrist, mentioning that I was "adherent to my treatment plan"
After telling the AME EVERYTHING about my mental health struggles, history, etc. He decided that I was fit to earn my medical, pending a signature from my psychiatrist ensuring everything I said was truthful, which it was. Finally, after so much struggle, I was able to earn my first-class medical.
The point I want to get across with any of you who still stuck around to read all this, is that if you do disqualify for the medical, there is a reason for that, which you simply must accept in the name of safety of others.
for those of you who are in a similar position to me at any point in my journey, just know that If you stay honest with yourself, your doctor, and eventually the AME, you will definently have a path to earning your certificate, pending some potentiall obstacles.
There is a resource from the faa about medications allowed for pilots, though I never used it as a reference for myself, but definitely check it out if it applies to you in any way. If I missed anything please reply below and I will try my best to answer.

2024.05.15 05:49 Ok-Guide-7329 Coffiander Interview with Seth and Tony Notes

Coffiander Interview with Seth and Tony Notes
-Seth says they've had issues with people and said "if you're not gonna work with me you need to go"
-Seth says he appreciates Tony stepping on board when he asked him to bc he would be searching and coming home and doing podcasts so it takes weight off his shoulders
-Seth says he's not giving info on searches bc people were following his volunteers and threatening them and he cares about their safety
-Seth says Katie and him got married June 21 2008, he says it was a hot summer day and they didn't have air conditioned. He stayed the night at a friend's house the night before. He said she was beautiful in her dress and Seth does start to get very emotional about the memory. He said there is pictures in his wedding album he still has. His mom and dad got them a hotel room and she started watching TV and he was drunk so he fell asleep and he says she never forgave him for it (fondly).
-Talking about the moment Katie told him they were having Sebastian, she told him on her mom's birthday just saying "I'm pregnant" and he thought he'd be a horrible dad and would fail. Sebastian was 5 days late, born on Seth's dad's birthday. Seth says Sebastian had a lot of complications at birth and the pregnancy was difficult for Katie, the midwife wasnt the best he mentions. He says it was Katie's first pregnancy that went all the way and says she probably wouldn't want him to go into details. He was in the room when he was born, Sebastian peed all over the nurse and Seth said "okay, he's mine!"
-Seth says Sebastians first word was a cuss word, second was cuss word, then dad and then bottle
-Seth said Sebastian was a quick crawler but he was delayed with walking
-Seth says Sebastian was awake 16-18 hours a day as a toddler and he says that's one of the first things that made him think something was different about his son. He said for the first 8 months he was sick a lot, constantly. The flu, pneumonia. After that his immune system kicked in.
-When Katie and Seth were together, Seth went to school and worked full time and Katie worked full time. He tried to have a lady babysit him down the road but things weren't working out anymore and Katie went and joined the Navy and then Seth became a stay at home dad bc there wasn't anyone to watch him. He noticed there was delayed speech, motor skill issues, etc. He says Katie joined the Navy so he had insurance.
-Seth says Sebastians sleep improved once his health did but Sebastian still doesn't sleep for 8 hours a day. He says there's times he's came over for a week for spring break for example and he'd let him stay up to watch TV and play toys bc he didn't have school the next day but tell him they'd have stuff to do tomorrow so he'd have to be ready and the next day he'd realize he should've went to sleep.
-Sebastian started walking around 2 and a half. Seth said it wasn't really walking he ran. He missed his first steps while he was at work, but by the time he got home he was running -Seth said things were great for sebastian education wise in Georgia until they moved to California, he was getting animal therapy and he was able to stimulate in regular education. He said all the taught him was the letter S in Cali. Katie was still in the navy at this time.
-Seth says the divorce between him and Katie was finalized in 2019
-Seth says Sebastians top interests are video games, he likes cooking, he likes his legos and he likes building things, he liked doing the heavy equipment, they'd go fishing and he sometimes didn't like touching the fish, mentioned he doesn't like his hands dirty
-Seth says he didn't want to do online schooling when he went to live with Seth but would tell him it's not forever and remind him of the positives, he says Katie and Chris were on board with this. He would've went when school was over at Beech
-Seth says he wanted Sebastian to get his therapy for his issues like inappropriate discussions and inappropriate behavior. He mentions religion, politics, etc. He says he'd try to talk to kids at school about it and would say if you wanna have those conversations have them with a therapist
-Seth said often sebastian would have one sock on one sock off, they don't stay on usually. He says they'd come off in his sleep. Seth says it's a possibility he left with socks. All the shoes are accounted for and that's all they know. New tennis shoes, old tennis shoes, house shoes, and boots Seth bought him are all accounted for is all they know for sure
-Seth wears size 10 and a half, same size as Seth wears. He also says Sebastian was "3 ft 3 in and 3 years old"
-Seth says Sebastian likes his veggies as a kid, then he liked chicken nuggets, and then the first time he tried a hamburger at Wendy's, he ordered himself a hamburger and he took the hamburger and ate the whole thing and after that he started eating spaghetti and things like that. He says sebastian likes sushi, tofu, and eggs. He likes pancakes and bacon at IHOP or waffle house, he likes cheddar brats, he likes all cheeses but loves pamarsean on his spaghetti
-Seth doesn't believe a stranger would easily entice Sebastian. He said if someone approached him angrily he would get confrontational and defend him and Katie
-Seth says he knows Katie and Chris don't like but Seth would let Sebastian play modern warfare to encourage and teach teamwork. He only had a couple friends on there, Chris and Seths buddy.
-Seth has said "if I knew now what I found out a week after he went missing he wouldn't never went missing" he says he could've be preemptive about it
-Seth said to anyone who may have his son, let him go

2024.05.15 05:43 timebelow Initial 7-10 Business Days for Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card to eventual Approval for 75K SUB

Tldr: Called Chase everyday, supplied documentation they needed, then kept calling everyday at various times to check application status, eventually a nice Chase agent approved my application after putting me on hold. Called shortly after and asked for expedited shipping to start destroying that limited time 75K points sign up bonus (by spending $4K in 3 months) on an upcoming corporate travel trip.
Full events: - Applied online and instantly said they will review my Chase Sapphire Preferred application. They notified by email too without any timeframe stated. - Called Chase customer service and learned through the automated message that I will hear back in 7-10 business days. - I was not satisfied so I kept calling. You can try the below numbers and eventually speak with different types of agents across various Chase teams. Like customer service, member verification etc. • 8004323117 • 8002788830 • 8882702127
My takeaway: Would I have eventually gotten approved without calling as much, after I was told it's under review? Maybe. But IT DOES NOT HURT TO KEEP CALLING AND CHECKING YOUR STATUS. It's frustrating but as a potential customer of a large public company, you get to meet with agents outside the U.S and eventually get lucky with your new credit card :)

2024.05.15 04:30 United-House-6292 Trying again after being terminated

Buckle up. This ride is a little crazy. My son was hired by a DoD activity and required a Secret clearance. They granted him an interim clearance which gave him access to most things he needed to do and places he needed to go. After a couple of months of waiting for the final clearance determination, his supervisor queried security and it came out that they had marked his clearance No Determination and stopped working on it. It turns out they never should have even given him an interim at that point. So they told him to turn in his badge and go home. He was put on administrative leave. After a month of paid administrative leave, HR said they can’t keep paying him if he can’t get a clearance and they would have to terminate him. His supervisor (who liked him very much and wanted him back in the office) tipped him off and advised him to resign so he wouldn’t have a termination on his record. Son followed that advice but HR said he couldn’t resign once the termination was already in process. So he got a termination letter. From what we could gather (none of this was communicated to us directly) DCAS requested verification of sponsorship from the activity and the security department failed to respond. So that’s why DCAS couldn’t proceed with the clearance investigation and marked it None. For the sake of full disclosure, he did admit to smoking weed in college (within a year) and he did check himself into a psych facility for a week from which he was discharged and hasn’t had a problem since; but he was never told that he was denied a clearance. Son emailed the CO of the activity for help, naively thinking he would want to correct the failure of his security department. But instead, Son ended up getting his final SF-50 saying he resigned, in contradiction to the termination letter.
So after three months, he applied again. Now his clearance is pending a suitability evaluation because, get this, he answered yes to the question “Have you ever been fired or quit because you were told you were going to be fired?”
If you made it this far, I applaud you.
If they decide he’s not suitable because of the termination/resignation that was completely their fault, what recourse do we have?

  4. University of Maryland, College Park
  5. Notre Dame
  6. UT Austin
  7. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Grainger)
The list is very incomplete and I have yet to visit some of these campuses but I was wondering as of now what my odds would be at some of these schools and what I might have to do in the future in order to have a better shot at getting into these places
