2024.05.16 06:09 Polkadot_moon How scripted or unscripted do you prefer curricula?

I'm currently working on designing a writing curriculum for primary grades. It includes mini-units that explicitly teach various foundational skills that teachers can choose from, such as how to write a simple sentence. Each mini-unit is about 12-15 days long, with 3-6 DI style lessons and the rest are lessons for fluency, games, activities, and skills practice.
As a teacher implementing something like this, would you prefer the 3-6 lessons to be more scripted (telling you what to explicitly say, ask, have students discuss, etc), or would you prefer more unscripted with a general description of what to do, what to discuss, with suggested questions to use?
Thank you!

2024.05.16 05:13 Idiotic_oliver I did it. I got a B in college algebra.

I want to be a vet tech and am majoring for this… you get two chances to get a B in college algebra b4 they make you switch majors. Having this been the second try I was so stressed all semester and I may have failed one of my electives BUT I DID IT. I got the B!!! I’m so relieved. Math was really hard for me because 7th-12th grade I went to a therapeutic school that let us use notes to take tests or any assignment since it was focused on getting better… but it majorly failed me bc I didn’t know how to study math. But I did it. I taught myself. I’m so happy 😭❤️

2024.05.16 04:55 nikitamere1 end of year parent IEP rage

I'm only a perm sub (with an LBS, so I'm covering the caseload of a sped teach who is on an LOA) but I've gotten 2 days in a row of parent rage emails (other people cc'd too). First was a parent lashing out at a language teacher for "ruining the family's Mother's Day" with a cooking project that the student had completely misunderstood as a final (me personally? Wouldn't allow a teacher to ruin my Mother's Day. Kiddo, you've got an hour or 2 to work on this project, then we're gonna email the teacher and try to negotiate a grade adjustment or late turn in due to unclear rubric/expectations). Today it was a parent raging that "the IEP is not being enforced" bc his kid is failing an AP class...he hasn't turned in a project due from beginning of April. I go and meet with the teacher, who is LITERALLY EMBEDDING ALL THE ACCOMMODATIONS INTO THE WHOLE CLASS. Like Teach is doing UbD and best practices for backwards planning. Constant check ins, etc. I call the parent thinking this will be easier over the phone...20 mins later, seems like it's all setttled...then I get a whiny email from mom. Does she say, "Could you please help us with this?" Nope. Just blame game about how the school is making the assumption her son can do it on his own and he really needs more support. No acknowledgement that the son is not turning things in, when his supported study hall asks how his project is going he says "fine," etc. It's beyond me how parents can treat school employees like shit and expect good service but are we maybe perpetuating it by cowtowing to their demands? With both these kids, the issues had NOTHING to do with the IEP. Once these parents see the danger of an F they go nuclear and blame game and "we're gonna sue." And...chortle...was this brought up at the annual review meetings a month ago? In case of student one, where the very language teacher was present? OF COURSE NOT! Why parents think it's ok to lash out at teachers I do not understand. I just interviewed for a more full time sped position at this school but maybe I don't want it after all.
How do y'all deal with parents like this? Is there a way to be basically polite but also set boundaries? I'm aghast, but also don't want to get in trouble for being perceived as abrasive.

5 Types of Shower Wall Panels: How to Choose?
Undertaking a bathroom renovation is a substantial commitment, both in terms of time and resources. Selecting the ideal material for your new shower wall is a critical decision that requires a balanced consideration of both functional attributes and aesthetic appeal. This comprehensive guide will provide you with an in-depth analysis of five distinct types of shower wall panels, outlining their advantages and disadvantages, to assist you in making an informed choice tailored to your specific requirements.

What Features Do Shower Wall Panels Need to Have?

Before getting all starry-eyed about the colors and textures, you have to consider some practical aspects. Here are some of the key features that any decent shower wall material needs to offer.

https://preview.redd.it/qmrvtf8zap0d1.png?width=612&format=png&auto=webp&s=a6b822b2798962f3d91793b64d72b0789c33e438

Water Resistance

Ensuring water resistance in shower walls is crucial, not merely to prevent water splashes but to guarantee the material’s longevity and better durability. For perspective, well-sealed ceramic and porcelain tiles exhibit a water absorption rate of less than 0.5%, marking them as highly water-resistant. Conversely, materials like drywall can absorb water up to 10% of their weight, rendering them unsuitable for shower settings. Such high absorption can result in structural issues and mold proliferation, jeopardizing the wall’s structural integrity.

Mold and Mildew Resistance

Beyond aesthetics, mold issues and mildew present significant health risks. Research indicates that mold exposure can exacerbate respiratory conditions, particularly in asthma sufferers. Materials such as solid surface panels and acrylic inherently resist mold. Specifically, the non-porous nature of solid surface panels virtually eliminates mold growth opportunities, reducing mold presence by up to 99% relative to conventional materials.

Ease of Cleaning

Efficiency is paramount. On average, individuals allocate roughly 15 minutes weekly to shower cleaning. Materials like solid surface and acrylic can potentially halve this duration, courtesy of their smooth, non-porous attributes. In comparison, natural stone, due to its inherent porosity, demands more cleaning time, especially if not consistently sealed with a sealant. However, with diligent care and sealing, natural stone can offer enduring elegance and durability, lasting for a long time.

Durability

Optimizing the high durability of chosen materials is essential to ensure value for money. To illustrate, when adequately cared for, solid surface and porcelain tiles can endure for over 30 years. This lifespan surpasses many conventional materials by 50%, which may necessitate replacement or extensive upkeep within two decades.

What Types of Shower Wall Panels are Available on the Market?

Over the years, shower wall panels have evolved, presenting a diverse range of choices to meet individual preferences, requirements, and budgets. Traditionally, ceramic shower walls have been the go-to choice for many due to their timeless allure and low maintenance. Granite stands out for its inherent beauty and resilience, always maintaining its position as a preferred selection for those valuing both aesthetics and durability.
For those inclined towards high-end materials, natural stone walls—encompassing granite, marble, onyx, and travertine—offer an opulent, sophisticated touch to any bathroom. Recognized for their lasting lifespan, these exquisite materials are available in a variety of styles.
In recent times, the market has embraced novel materials. Acrylic panels, for instance, are steadily gaining popularity. Not only are they mold and mildew resistant, but they also simplify installation processes. Their diverse color and design spectrum offer a wide range of decorative possibilities. Solid surface panels, a newer addition, boast a sleek, uninterrupted appearance, which many homeowners find attractive. Notably durable and non-porous, they can adeptly replicate the look of natural substances.

Solid Surface Shower Wall Panels

In the realm of contemporary bathroom designs, solid surface shower wall panels stand as a beacon of luxury and practicality, invariably catching the attention of judicious homeowners. What exactly contributes to their remarkable qualities? Let’s explore.
Solid surface shower wall panels are the culmination of state-of-the-art technology intertwined with finesse and craftsmanship. These panels are meticulously fashioned using an exclusive blend of aluminum powder, sourced exclusively from a prestigious state-owned brand. This guarantees a composition boasting a pure 100% aluminum hydroxide foundation, completely devoid of any calcium powder inclusions. The distinct formulation of 15+25+75 fine powder facilitates the creation of high-density panels that exhibit a pore-free surface.
The resultant product is not merely a feast for the eyes but also provides a tactile experience that’s genuinely gratifying. A testament to its excellent engineering, the panels offer minimal water absorption, safeguarding against common bathroom problems such as stains and discoloration. The distinctive factor in these panels lies in the incorporation of high-grade resin, which plays a crucial role in determining the product’s longevity and aesthetics. Employing a lesser quality resin can precipitate yellowing over time; however, the utilization of Isophthalic resin in this context is noteworthy for its superior anti-yellowing prowess. This resin harbors a stable molecular structure, thereby promising a product that boasts a refined texture, augmented hardness, and unmatched resistance to yellowing and contamination, ensuring that the beauty of your shower space remains untarnished over time.

Waterproof

Water is a natural companion to showers, but without proper management, it can be detrimental to shower walls. Solid surface panels excel in this aspect. Their impermeable nature guarantees water resistance, safeguarding against potential damages and ensuring a long-lasting lifespan.

Easy to Maintain

Optimizing time is a priority in today’s fast-paced world, and solid surface panels offer a highly convenient solution for bathroom maintenance. Their sleek surface facilitates effortless cleaning, enabling you to maintain a pristine bathroom with minimal exertion over the years.

Stains and Discoloration Resistance

Bathrooms are susceptible to various staining agents, from hair dyes to diverse bathing products. Solid surface panels, composed of high-quality resin, are highly resistant to most stains. Their non-porous nature further minimizes the risk of discoloration, ensuring long-lasting aesthetic appeal.

Easily Customized

Solid surface panels offer a flexible foundation for homeowners to articulate their distinct design preferences. Whether your emphasis lies on a variety of colors, unique textures, or a particular design theme, these panels can be tailored to harmonize with your aesthetic vision, enhancing the visual appeal of your bathroom. Additionally, solid surface panels can mimic the appearance of natural materials, such as the patterns and colors of marble. This means you can achieve the luxurious look of marble easily.

Highly Durable

Given the infrequent yet substantial nature of bathroom renovations, durability is of utmost importance. Solid surface panels are constructed using premium materials, specifically designed to withstand high levels of moisture, mechanical impacts, and routine wear and tear. Solid surface panels, being highly durable, don’t warp or swell, ensuring that mold and mildew don’t find a conducive environment to grow. A highly durable surface will resist staining, scratching, and other routine damages that lesser materials might succumb to.

Anti-Mold

Mold is not only aesthetically unappealing but also poses potential health risks. The non-porous nature of solid surface panels serves as an effective barrier against mold proliferation, thereby promoting a healthier and cleaner bathroom environment for you and your family.

Antimicrobial

Beyond mold resistance, solid surface panels are engineered with the capability to resist a wide range of microbial agents. This intrinsic antimicrobial property further enhances the hygiene and safety of your shower area, reducing the likelihood of bacterial growth and subsequent

Acrylic Shower Wall Panels

Acrylic panels have garnered significant attention in the home improvement sector due to their combination of cost-effectiveness, longevity, and visual appeal. They are frequently utilized in bathroom upgrades. But what are their inherent characteristics and advantages?
Acrylic shower wall panels are fabricated from a heat-treated thermoplastic compound, resulting in a consistent sheet. These panels are recognized for their polished finish that not only elevates their visual appeal but also offers a mold and mildew-resistant surface. A notable feature of acrylic panels is their ability to mimic various materials. With a wide selection of different colors and patterns, they are a preferred choice for home interiors. For those seeking the aesthetics of natural stone or ceramic at a reduced cost, acrylic stands as an excellent alternative. Moreover, when using individual acrylic sections, a secure and watertight seam between panels can be achieved.

Lightweight and Easy to Install

Acrylic panels are notably light, making them ideal for DIY projects. Their installation is uncomplicated, eliminating the need for a professional team. This results in time and labor cost savings.

Easy to Clean

The sleek finish on acrylic panels is both aesthetic and functional. It prevents the adherence of water droplets and soap residues. Cleaning is effortless, only requiring a damp cloth without the need for strong chemicals or intensive scrubbing.

Affordable

Opting for acrylic panels provides a balance of style and utility without straining your budget. They represent excellent value, given their durability and low maintenance needs.

Waterproof

Acrylic panels inherently resist water due to their non-porous composition. They’re an optimal choice for moisture-prone areas like showers. Their design, having fewer seams than conventional tiles, minimizes the chances of leakage.

PVC Shower Wall Panels

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) may initially seem complex by name, but within the realm of bathroom refurbishments, it represents economical and functional choices. Let’s delve into the details of PVC shower wall panels.
PVC shower wall panels, fabricated from a plastic-derived material, are both lightweight and cost-effective, catering to a broad spectrum of homeowners. Their diverse design and finish options facilitate various aesthetic goals, from contemporary to classic, without incurring the expenses of higher-end materials.

Lightweight

One of the standout features of PVC panels is their weight. Being incredibly lightweight, they’re easy to transport and handle, which is a boon for DIY projects. This lightness doesn’t compromise their strength, though. They’re sturdy enough to stand up to daily shower use.

Water Resistance

Ensuring water resistance is crucial for shower areas. PVC panels, with their non-porous properties, guarantee this protection. They prevent water penetration, safeguarding against potential damage. Their design suits wet environments, promoting durability and minimizing maintenance needs.

Low Maintenance

PVC panels cater to individuals preferring minimal upkeep. Their sleek design facilitates effortless cleaning of dirt and residues. Additionally, their resistance to mold and mildew ensures a hygienic bathroom ambiance.

Cost-Effective

Are you working within a budget? PVC panels present an optimal solution. As one of the most cost-effective materials available, they combine resilience and aesthetic appeal without straining your finances. They stand out as a top choice for those seeking quality and affordability.

Fiberglass Shower Wall Panels

Fiberglass, a material with a rich history, has become a favored selection for numerous homeowners, especially in the fabrication of shower wall panels. But what attributes contribute to its distinction?
Fiberglass shower wall panels are meticulously manufactured through a process of intertwining delicate glass fibers to form a textile-like base, subsequently reinforced with a resin compound. This technique yields a product that combines lightness with robust strength. Furthermore, these panels frequently feature a gel-coat surface layer, optimizing the texture and augmenting its resistance to water penetration.

Lightweight But Strong

The beauty of fiberglass lies in its paradoxical nature. It’s incredibly lightweight, making it easy to handle and install. Yet, its strength is commendable. This balance ensures that homeowners don’t have to compromise on durability when opting for easier installation.

Stains Resistance

Nobody likes a stained shower wall. Fiberglass panels, with their gel-coat surface, resist most common bathroom stains. Whether it’s soap scum or hard water marks, a simple wipe is often enough to keep the panels looking pristine.

Easy to Install

For those who love a good DIY project, fiberglass panels are a dream. Their lightweight nature combined with their flexibility ensures that installation is straightforward. No need for specialized tools or professional help, making them a cost-effective choice.

Tile Shower Wall Panels

Tiles have long been a foundational element in bathrooms. Their adaptability and visual appeal have endeared them to homeowners for generations. However, when discussing tile shower wall panels, we are highlighting a contemporary adaptation of this timeless choice.
Tile shower wall panels are large, unified panels designed to emulate the appearance of individual tiles. These panels capture the beauty of traditional tiles without the complexities of individual tile placement, grouting, and associated drawbacks. Constructed from materials like porcelain and ceramic, these panels deliver a cohesive appearance while preserving the allure of conventional tiles. Furthermore, they serve as an excellent substitute for glass tiles on shower floors, especially in homes with children or seniors, due to their enhanced grip and minimized slip risk.

Highly Customizable

One of the standout features of tile panels is their customizability. They come in a plethora of designs, colors, and textures. Whether you’re aiming for a contemporary look or a vintage vibe, there’s a tile panel out there that fits the bill. This flexibility ensures that homeowners can achieve their desired bathroom aesthetic with ease.

Higher Cost

Quality often comes at a price. Tile shower wall panels, given their aesthetic appeal and durability, tend to be pricier than some other options like PVC or acrylic. However, many homeowners find the cost justified, given the longevity and upscale look they offer.

Require Regular Cleaning

While tile shower wall panels eliminate the hassle of grout lines, they still require regular cleaning to maintain their shine. Water spots, soap scum, and other bathroom residues can dull their appearance over time. Regular cleaning ensures they remain the centerpiece of your bathroom.

2024.05.16 04:45 Fuzzy_Meringue_3300 Can I finish my last year of high school if my family moved away?

I’m 17 (f), 18 in June. My dad got a new job that’s a 16 hour drive from where I currently live (the US). But I really don’t want to leave, I know most people wouldn’t but I want to at least spend the summer with my friends, but my family is leaving June 13.
My mother is extremely emotionally abusive and has been my entire life. To sum it up, she has influenced panic attacks on me on multiple occasions, only to belittle me and scold me for it (new flash that makes it worse). I also have major depressive disorder, and my therapist has advised me to stay with a friend over the summer bc it would really help my mental health to get away from her. My dad is even on board with it, but my mom is keeping her title as helicopter parent and is not allowing me to stay even for a week.
My girlfriend (17F) has offered to let me stay with her and her family over summer, and I practically live with them anyway.
Should be allowed to stay? And if so, how can I take advantage of being 18 to let me stay? Ive been recommended emancipation by a few people and trusted adults, but I don’t think that’s the right move. I resent my mother for traumatizing me but I don’t want to appear in front of her in court. In a perfect world they would divorce, but that’s not the case.
I have a great support system and the best friends I could ask for. I even scored a payed internship with the head of the mycology department at my local state university, which my mother did not care about and will not let me stay the summer for it. I’m at a loss of what to do and I really need help soon on how to convince her. I had her meet my girlfriend’s parents and spend time with them. I have stayed out of trouble and kept my grades up. I have been helping her pack the house.
I just wanna to spend some time with my friends before i leave. They are the only thing in my life keeping me going, i love them so much. And my girlfriend is perfect and I can’t leave her. We were gonna go to the same state school for college and we had everything planned before the move was abruptly placed on us in Feb. I don’t have the time to spend with my friends because it’s my junior year and i have been working so hard nonstop.
My friends parents said they would do whatever they can to help, and also support me wanting to stay the summer. It hurts to see all these parents agree with me when my own mother wont listen to me. Please I’ll take any advice.

Im just curious cuz I did lmao.
Middle school - girl threatened to kill herself everytime I did something she didn’t like. Also called me and her friends bakas AND HAD A CRUSH ON ME? She described me when she asked me to guess her crush I was so tired. A girl below my grade spammed the yarichin bitch club opening in zoom no teacher did anything. Same girl stole a ton of anime art for our art showcase. Another girl submitted paint by numbers 🙄 I called her out on it and she HATED ME, roleplayed killing me in chats.
High school - Couple always flirted in chat and came up with code names for people, and got angry when someone asked wtf they were talking about. U guys r a couple just text each other 💀 . They always got chat disabled SMH. Some pretentious guy in creative writing ALWAYS unmuted himself he was INSUFFERABLE. Got pissed off at every assignment and went on rants about how they were unnecessary. He tried to start arguments all the time, a girl said she had a tattoo to remember her dog and he said “I don’t get why some people think it’s smart to stain their skin” STFU! There’s more but I can’t get recognized on here 😭
I blocked every single person from this school on insta, I left this hellhole and felt like sharing. I thought it was normal to have falling outs with everyone u talk to in school 😭 this school legit made me a misanthrope in 7th grade because I literally could not befriend anyone here. If a parent is reading this do NOT make ur kids do K12 I swear there’s like 10 other virtual schools u can consider. There’s so many alternatives

2024.05.16 04:39 Civil-Ninja-3046 Possible transfer opportunity

I’m a current Pennsylvania MS social studies teacher, 7th grade, finishing up my first year. Dear Lord, MS, especially 7th graders, are a lot. Our district had a HS social studies position open, and I put my name in for it with HR. Openings at our HS for social studies are pretty rare, so I took the chance. With the CBA, I’m 100% for an interview due to my certification.
For those of you that did an internal transfer, how do you suggest I handle it (if it even occurs)? I’m only seeking it out due to my preference being HS level (and most of my experience is HS); admin and co workers are not a factor except in the positive.
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.16 04:35 Fuzzy_Meringue_3300 Can I finish my last year of high school if my family moved away?

2024.05.16 03:57 AITA_Throwaway_Acct1 AITA For Raising my Voice at my Mom

Context: I’ve always been a fantastic student, I’ve never had a B in any class and I’m Top 2% of my class (Sophomore in HS). Recently I’ve been struggling a lot with stress and just feeling like there have been a lot of expectations placed on me to always do amazing in school. It probably doesn’t help that my twin sister is Top 1% of the class so I’m always 2nd place there.
I’ve always been gifted in math and usually don’t “show my work” but this year my teacher’s been giving me 0s in any HW assignment I don’t show my work on so that’s kinda annoying. So I’ve gotten a few 0s this year on HWs that the teacher won’t let me redo or anything. For reference, this is a Precal class which is 2 years above what the “average” person in my grade is taking at the time.
All of our HW assignments for the unit are due on the same day. I struggle with learning things from this teacher I have because IMO she isn’t great at…yk…teaching. So I’ve been having to teach everything to myself. This last unit I’ve been struggling with learning the stuff and I just wasn’t able to get some of the homeworks in on time because I didn’t know how to do them and I’ve been studying for an AP Exam for the last week or so (about as long as we’ve had the HWs for), I’ve had to write a 3K word research paper for English, and some other various stuff. Basically, I’ve been too busy to teach this stuff to myself, so I didn’t get the HWs in on time and got 0s on several of them.
I come home from playing tennis today and my mom comes over to me and asks why I have a 0 on like 4 HWs, I tell her bc I’ve just been overwhelmed/bad teacheetc. She keeps saying some stuff and I say I’ve just been really stressed out lately and then she says that seeing those 0s stressed her out. At that point, I just lost it (not quite the right word, it wasn’t full blown screaming or anything but I raised my voice quite a bit saying that I’ve just been so overwhelmed, bush, stressed, yeah.
She then goes on to say that she’s confused as to how I’m so stressed out and overwhelmed when she’ll come home at 8-9pm and see me playing video games. Well I’ve been at school for 8 hours and been doing HW, working out, or at tennis practice for another 3. So I need some time to be a kid and actually have some fun (plus I can’t get much work done after ~10 hours of it if I try).
So yeah, that’s pretty much it, sorry for the kinda long thing but I felt like I needed to give some more background info to give y’all a clearer view.
TL;DR, AITA for yelling at my mom because I’m stressed/overwhelmed after she comes after me for getting several 0s.

2024.05.16 03:43 No-Calligrapher907 I’m worried I’ll never have a good relationship with my dad

Don’t get me wrong, me and my dad love each other very much, but ever since I transitioned there’s been a huge rift between us. I am 16 and I transitioned (ftm) around 7th grade. My father is somewhat conservative but he’s been as supportive as possible and always tried his best. I know he’s not trying to be distant I just don’t think he really knows who I am anymore, to be honest I don’t know either. I don’t really have any hobbies outside of my job and my ADHD makes me a little all over the place mentally, my dad is kind of the same way. I have trouble connecting with him and I feel like I’m constantly letting him down. Last year I had a thing with drugs, I got high constantly and got in some pretty bad trouble with the cops which I know contributes to our situation. He always stuck by me and it was around then that I realized whatever weird version of ADHD we both had was very similar, I even found drugs in his room. It’s clear that while my siblings have a diffrent, more hyperactive and compulsive version of ADHD me and my dad both have some sort of mental tick that scratches away at our brain like a really nasty headache you can’t get rid of. During COVID he got really depressed and I could always tell, I think he feels kind of helpless now and I’m worried I contribute to that feeling. We argue sometimes but more than that we just have a tense, surface-level relationship full of repetitive conversations (mostly about school or my dog). I have trouble expressing affection with my dad, like I say I love you but I think we both can feel the awkwardness around it. I feel the same way when he says it to me, just awkward but to be honest I’ve never been good at taking compliments (or affection in general). It’s been like this for so long now and I’m worried it will never change. I just want to feel like I’m party of his family, I want to have a good relationship with him before I leave for college.
Sorry if this is a weird post or formatted wrong or something, I’ve never used Redit before and I just need some advice.

2024.05.16 03:34 themombieapocalypse Is this allowed pre-op?

This is probably going to be seen as a dumb question, but here goes: I have surgery on the 21st of this month and have been on a pre-op diet since the 7th of this month. I am supposed to have a protein shake (with macros within certain parameters) for breakfast, a protein shake at lunch, and a meal at dinner consisting of 3-4 oz of lean meat and one serving of vegetables. I was also told that I could eat cucumber, celery, an egg, or a low-fat string cheese if I got super hungry. I ate a mini cucumber on two different days, and I haven't cheated or deviated at all. I'm very much in ketosis (side question: that's to be expected, right? Not abnormal?) HOWEVER, today I ate my one true love, bell pepper, as my dinner vegetable serving, without checking to see if it was ok on the diet or as far as carbs or whatever go. I googled and am getting confusing/conflicting information. Have I screwed up my diet with a freakin' bell pepper? Should I ask the bariatric practice when they open back up, or is that a crazy-lady-move? TIA.

2024.05.16 03:30 Mysterious_Cream_462 I really dislike my life

First off: if you’re here to say “Other people have bigger problems!” Or “You’re too soft”, then you may leave now.
Okay. Now for the people that have stayed, Here’s my story.
I (15M) genuinely dislike my life. For most of my life, i was the kid in school who had a busy schedule everyday, and i still am. I barely spend any time at home. For example, in Tuesdays, we have school from 7:00AM to 5:10 in the fucking afternoon. 5:30 i have singing class until 6:30. At 7:00 i have basketball practice until 9pm. Only then i can arrive home. I absolutely hate this.
Also let’s talk about school. I fucking hate school and i think it is a disgrace among our world. Every Tuesday and Thursday, we have class for 10 hours straight (Mind you i live in Brazil). Also, our teachers are a bunch of assholes, and they let it show in their tests. While on the topic, my father doesn’t accept any grade under 80%. I’m talking like “Oh you got a 77%? Why am i even paying for you to go to school then?”. This happened just yesterday. This is not an over-exaggeration at all.
A little more about my dad: He loves to tell me how good of a student he was when he was young. In public school… In Brazil… IN THE 70’S… Fyi, even nowadays the public school system in Brazil sucks so bad people are afraid of even getting near one. Now imagine it 50 years ago! My dad is nuts and things i must be absolutely perfect just cause he was above average in a poor education system many decades ago.
If anyone finds a way to change my life with somebody else’s, please reach me out, cause i’m in need.

2024.05.16 03:24 Psychedelic-Yogi "Bathe Your Nervous System in Joy!"

I had an inspiring conversation today with a young ketamine therapist on the West Coast.
https://preview.redd.it/04tko34pxo0d1.png?width=1469&format=png&auto=webp&s=af2c486c67e9bc675ab80b9523c5f758653dc97c
I shared my perspectives on the mystical capacities of ketamine and the resonance with near-death experience. He described a stunning success with one of his patients. I was happy to receive this wisdom and also took it as a reminder to loosen up in my own psychedelic yoga!
[NOTE: I'm conveying the gist of his story and the lesson I took from it. I don't remember if the title of this post is an exact quote.]
He decided to try something different, for a patient who'd been struggling for a long time.
He urged her to prepare a playlist full of joy and playfulness. He told her relax and let go of the meticulous intention setting. He suggested she "bathe (her) nervous system in joy," in order to really learn what joy feels like in the body!
I understood there had been a profound shift in this therapist's approach -- the sudden realization that what the patient needed most deeply was just to relax and enjoy. This stood in contrast to what was described as a rigorous, goal-oriented process.
This impressed me for two reasons!
-- I've been learning, as I teach the methods of Ketamine-State Yoga and guide folks through the experience, that less is more. Often, a collection of methods -- and the encouragement to practice them -- is seen as "homework." And the person who's struggling with ego-pain probably has mental habits of failure and self-flagellation. Adding more "homework" that they will self-assign a failing grade is playing right into the neurosis. (For some folks, a very rigorous step-by-step approach is just what they crave and allows them to thrive -- everybody's different!)
-- This is my own Achilles' Heel! When I began to practice KSY, my trips were highly structured with practices. I was trying to induce deep, meaningful experiences and also to learn by trial and error what methods were especially effective. At some point I switched to an approach based on observing rather than doing, but this was still a plan! I wish someone had suggested I try a trip where I simply "bathe in joy."
He also described this patient, who'd been mired in depression for so long, dancing her upper body to the rhythm of her joyful playlist as she sat in the ketamine chair. A full-body expression of freedom and appreciation of life!
Finally, I understand this simple instruction -- "bathe your nervous system in joy" -- as not merely whimsical but scientifically astute. Most psychedelics, ketamine included, engender a period of "neuroplasticity," when learning is heightened and old habits can be replaced with healthier ones. And what could be more healthy, for a chronically depressed individual, than reveling in the experience of happiness?
It reminds me of what a friend said, many years ago, when he'd just gotten on antidepressants. "What's the most significant benefit?" I inquired.
"It's that now I know what it feels like to be calm and happy."

2024.05.16 03:19 Previous-Injury8150 Venting about my Childhood

So I've been wanting to rant this for a while and I'm finally willing. I had a journal when I was younger and I just found it again so I'm just posting based from what I read and remember. So first is kinda the backstory. This starts from 6th grade to 8th grade. In 6th grade there was two sides and the rest of the friends, these will not be real names. So I was on the side that was mostly in the right/didn't start it. There was me and this girl I'll call Kelly, then on the other side was Lav and Jams. The rest of the friend group was more like bystanders and kind of judges to both sides. The main judge was May, who was the therapist friend for a lot of my friends throughout elementary and middle school. Kelly and Jams always conflicted over stupid things. After me and Lav got our side of the story we came together and talked about it, sometimes bringing it up to May for help. At the time Lav had a boyfriend I'll call Bear. Bear and Jams hated each other, but they both wanted to hang out with Lav. Our teacher literally made Lav have to hang out with only one of them because they fought so much. During this time me and Jams were having problems with our sexual and gender identity, and Kelly was homophobic, which was also another reason Kelly and Jams conflicted. So in 7th grade Kelly and Jams were no longer friends, during some lunch hours I would go to Kelly and Lav's lunch (they had a separate lunch from me and Jams). They vented about Jams a lot and I never expected them to be friends again. Not much else happened in 7th grade besides Jams dating about 20 people (yes this is an accurate number) and finding out they were transgender. In March or some time near then of that year they brought a flag to school (I think it was omnisexual) and started telling people that was my sexuality when I wasn't out (they told Kelly and May). I didn't know about this until my birthday party in late summer when May and Lav told me. May started texting Jams and Jams ended up blocking me. About halfway through 8th grade me and Jams became friends again, although they manipulated me and my friends. Now, they still haven't figured out their gender and sexual identity at this point. They got mad at me for flirting (terriblely) with their boyfriend. Their boyfriend did flirt back and was totally comfortable about it and knew it was platonic. Me and their boyfriend did start dating after they broke up and that lasted for a month. We were friends afterwards but because we started dating Jams hated me. They said I was using them and making their boyfriend get a cursh on me even though I've told them we were just joking. Soon after I gave them a letter explaining everything from 6th grade from my PoV and they stopped hating me. They were still annoying and said stupid things, they also do not respect boundaries at all and have literally put their hands around my neck like they'd strangle me. They also jump on my back and said things that made me uncomfortable (flirting with me in a weird way) even though I told them to stop.
