2024.06.09 11:43 Cpt-Alvarez My PS+ subscription got cancelled even though everything works fine

Four days ago I received an email that stated there where problems to process my payment. As the mail suggested I checked my payment method (credit card) and everything was okay. I even bought a game from the current sale (about six euros) and wihle the payment process took a bit longer it worked. I've got the receipt via email and my credit card got charged. This morning I've received an email that my PS+ subscription got cancelled, because I've failed to pay.
WTF?
I checked my payment method again, everything is fine. I even bought another game (sale, less than five euros) and it worked again so the issue semms not to be on my end.
Anyone else got that problem? And what can I do about it?

I recently submitted a small claims complaint in Oregon because my roommates decided they no longer wanted to live with me and they essentially bullied me out and terrorized me until I left. They claimed initially that they felt unsafe around me, which ended up being a clear lie because their partner moved in right after I moved out. Upon leaving I asked for my portion of rent to be refunded if they wanted me out sooner than the next month, they said no I need to pay the rent in full and leave that week and they claimed the landlord agreed with that logic. Surprise surprised the landlord did not agree with that and said I'm on the lease I don't have to leave at all. Of course I was going to leave anyways, they're not worth having panic attacks every night because they terrorize me and bang on my door for fun. My claim explained all of this and all I was asking for was my security deposit and just the portion of rent that was going to be going to a vacant room (as in I left the first week as they requested). I got a piece of mail today with a counter suit saying I abused them "financially" and abused their car in regards to paraphrased; rent, bills, utilities, and transportation for even more than what I asked for. I have receipts of all of what I paid for including rent. And I also have venmo receipts of them making venmo requests to call me fat and stupid. I'm making this post as a way to sort of understand how the court system works or how I should approach this before a judge because I've only ever been in court due to foster care before. My mother passed away last month. I'm an only child, and she was divorced, so I'm in charge of everything. Instead of filing the will which would appoint me as personal representative, I signed a Transfer by Affidavit at her bank. The balance in her account is unable to cover her basic funeral expenses. She rented a house, and was in the middle of a high-interest car loan with no payoff option at death. She didn't have much of value in her home either. Many belongings are damaged due to a former living situation she was in. Any money I do generate from a yard sale isn't going to cover service/burial costs.
There are going to be unpaid hospital bills, IRS back taxes, and she has several unknown accounts in collections from the former living situation. If I went through the probate process, I believe the estate would be declared insolvent pretty quickly. I'm not sure how this works with Transfer by Affidavit. It would be nice to notify accounts so they stop attempting to contact her. I suppose I can attempt to reach out to them individually to close some of the accounts. I'm just not sure if there is an easier way of doing this, and that is my main question here.
It doesn't seem worthwhile to hire an attorney to handle things, or really anything that would cost more money. From my understanding of the Transfer by Affidavit, I'm just agreeing to follow the will and probate process. It seems that funeral expenses are given first priority, and I have all receipts and statements well organized in case there are any questions in the future.

2024.06.09 06:44 asm1030 AITA for expecting an interest payment to be made upon return of a security deposit as required by state law?

My fiancé & I rented an apartment from a private owner for 17 months in the New York City metropolitan area. We were required to provide 1.5 months security to move in, which was over $4k.
1 year into the lease, our landlord advised she planned to sell the apartment. Right away, we asked if she would be willing to terminate the lease early, or go month to month to allow us more flexibility as we plotted our next move. This was also advantageous for her as she was clearly keen on selling ASAP. She confirmed she was ok with either option. We entertained the idea of buying the apartment as we loved the it, and she even offered us seller financing, but ultimately decided against it with our wedding on the horizon as interest rates remain high.
Two months prior to lease end, after advising we wouldn’t be buying her apartment, we started looking for other apartments to rent and made her aware of this, at which point we asked how much notice she would need in order to terminate early and were told three weeks. Four weeks from our original lease end date, we found a place, gave her notice, and agreed in writing to terminate one month earlier than the original lease end date.
Ultimately, we moved out, staying two days into June based on our new landlord’s needs to turn over the apartment we moved into after his former tenant vacated which our landlord was aware of. Our previous landlord did not charge us rent for June 1 or June 2. On June 3, I confirmed we moved out and that keys had been placed in the lockbox the night prior.
At this point, I requested information about receiving our security deposit back. She noted her agent would need to inspect since she lives out of state. A day or so later, she confirmed the agent inspected, and all was well besides ‘significant staining’ in the shower which she would be deducting from the deposit for. We asked for photos and realized this was simply some mildew from normal use. We asked to reenter the apartment to address this, was given the green light and did so, provided her with photos, and the following day she confirmed we would be getting our full security deposit back.
In the state of New Jersey, it’s required by law that landlords place security deposits into an interest bearing account and provide the institution’s name, type of account, and interest rate earned on the account to the tenant within 30 days of receipt of the deposit. This is all noted in the lease, which I advised of when I asked if we would be receiving security + interest, which sent our landlord into a bout of rage texting.
She stated if we were interested in strict adherence of the lease, she would be collecting damages for our breach of lease as the lease ends June 30, and we moved out early, despite her agreement in writing to terminating one month early. She also stated she would be taking the full 30 days allowed as per the lease to reinspect the apartment for any additional damages to be deducted from the security deposit before returning it to us “IF owed” despite having already confirmed we’d be receiving the deposit back in full and that there were no issues with the apartment outside of the cleaning issue we addressed and resolved.
She confirmed in writing in this conversation that our security deposit was never held in an interest bearing account as required by state law (she is also an attorney in another state). She argues she let us out of the lease early, and didn’t charge us two days rent into June (~$180) so asking for interest ($433) is petty. We argue she let us out of the lease early because it benefitted her in getting her apartment on the market in the middle of summer when it’s most advantageous to sell a home and allowed her more freedom and flexibility to show the apartment at her leisure (and vacant!) versus having to give us 24 hours notice for showings. We also argue that paying interest to renters is the law in our state because that is money earned on the renter’s money, so it is owed to us, and even if she were to charge us back pay for June 1 and 2, the interest money owed outweighs that.
Finally, we feel her threats around collecting damages for breach of lease when she agreed to terminate early and prolonging the return of our security as well as requiring a second inspection to identify “additional damages”, all beyond what she intended to do before we asked about the interest due to us is retaliatory.
So, AITA for asking for our security deposit be returned with interest accrued over 17 months also be paid out?

2024.06.09 06:29 alittlegreen_dress What are my chances of winning this small claims case re: lease and moving; how difficult would it be to get the money owed?

Defendant told me she owned the apartment when I interviewed with her. I have an audio recording of this.
Signed a one year lease for a room in a 3 bedroom apartment with defendant.
Prior to moving, I asked defendant for COI requirements for the building for the movers.
Defendant stated she needed permission from the building and asked what other than bags of books and clothing I had. I told her. Defendant never asked about quantity of books and clothing.
After a week or so passed, I followed up and defendant stated no COI was required, which is unusual especially in light of defendant stating she needed permission from building.
On day of move, building receptionist prohibits movers from entering my building, and after contacting management, tells us that there is an application process with the board and it takes weeks to approve. Also, a security deposit must be paid, which is refunded after the movers are done. I learn then the building is a co-op, which means defendant doesn't really own the apartment, but is a shareholder in the building.
Defendant tells me she emailed the management and they never replied, so she assumed everything was okay.
My belongings now have to go into storage, and defendant offers to pay for a month of storage (with it being free from the 1st of the month after the storage contract begins).
Defendant asks receptionist if she can take her cart and move my things in as "her things" and continues throughout the day to push the idea. I tell her that would take a very long time and she's an older woman who's just had back surgery, making this a terrible if not impossible idea.
I pay defendant for first two days of rent in cash, as she requested. Defendant previously stated she'd give a rent receipt but never does. On day 3, I pay for the 1st full month via Venmo.
Defendant returns from vacation a week after paying the full month of rent.
On this day, defendant returns my first month of rent money back to me without comment. When I ask why, defendant states "the lease says rent is to be paid cash only". I deposit the money back into my account, and tell her it'll take a few days for it to be available. Defendant becomes hostile, repeatedly asking when she'll have the money even though I've already told her.
I become concerned about my stuff in storage because even though I reserved it under my name, she paid for it in person and when she did, she had it taken out under her name and put me as an emergency contact (not an authorized person).
As there have been no updates about her application to allow movers in the building, I press for more information. Defendant pushes it forward a few more days before calling a meeting with me and the other housemate, in which she tells us it's against co-op rules to have subletters in the apartments, and we must both leave.
I have the audio recording of this conversation: I ask defendant for the funds to move my stuff out of storage. She refuses.
I ask defendant for my security deposit back. She refuses. I ask if I have to leave tonight. She says I have to leave tomorrow night. When I tell her I need to find a new place to live and need my security deposit money for that, defendant states I need to find a place within a few days or she'll call the cops and throw me out.
Defendant blames me for this because "she's always subletted" and I "have so much stuff", implying it tipped off the receptionist. I tell defendant it was the movers that tipped the building off, not my amount of stuff, that she knew she could not sublease (which she denies, even though she's lived in the building since she was a kid) and it's her responsibility as a shareholder to know the rules for subletting and moving.
I leave it at this, but defendant barges into my room a few minutes later and says she will give my deposit back if I leave as soon as she does so. I agree.
Defendant returns my security deposit back two days later via Paypal with protection added (enabling to file a claim against it). Though it was previously not stated, she also asks for one of the three copies of the keys to my storage space, which she asks for "as insurance", which I give her.
Defendant insists on escorting me out the building so as to "not raise more alarms" with the co-op board, but refuses to help me lift my stuff into her cart because "I've had back surgery" even though she was willing to haul all my other belongings 17 blocks from my storage space to her apartment (the storage space is 6 x 10 x 8).
I have paid on credit card to have my stuff moved out of storage, as well as the tips for the drivers. Thankfully I can store it with a friend for free. It will cost approximately the same to move it into a new apartment, however.
I have also had to pay for 3 Lyft rides to take my stuff to my new place.

I would be asking small claims to order her to pay:

$90 in rent money paid for the two days
$830 for movers
$50 for Lyft rides
possibly emotional damages for the stress and trauma of having gone through all this?
$830 for the future move of my stuff from my friend's basement

Any advice and assistance on this would be helpful. I believe she has the money, as she has a dog, she loans her friends money, and she has owned two properties in the past, now both sold. She is retired; she says she can't work anymore because of a back injury at work, though court recoreds show she sued a dollar store for slipping and incapacitating her back around the same time this work injury happened.
Also, I'd like to know if I'd be less likely to get money for the future move of my stuff from my friend's basement as it may not happen before the case comes to trial.
I know where she lives, so she could be served.

TLDR- buyer left me negative feedback when I didn’t respond to a question about a missing package by noon on Saturday when they messaged me at 9 AM. Buyer can see that the post office ~~excepted~~ typo accepted the package in person and scanned it into their system before it stopped tracking
I’m really feeling depressed and defeated because I have gotten multiple bullshit feedback this month and I’m worried I won’t be able to pay rent because who wants to buy from someone who keeps getting all this negative feedback

I was out of the house all day and did not see a notification from eBay that I had received a message from a buyer who apparently has not yet received their item. (it is one day late)

Am I right in thinking that three hours on a Saturday is not a reasonable amount of time to wait for a seller response when asking a question about a package that has stopped tracking?
This is my second package that the post office has lost after I have turned it in in person at the counter and gotten a receipt from them that they have possession of the package, and both of these buyers left me negative feedback when it is apparent that I am not the one who lost the package.
I have over 1000 sales and haven’t gotten any negative feedback until February of this year, when I got a negative feedback from a buyer who has a history of leaving negative feedback for sellers, they have left over a dozen negative feedback in the last six months
I’m honestly feeling really defeated right now
This is my third negative feedback for metrics this month, but on the app it shows me as having six negative feedback in the last 30 days, and all of the negative feedback is bullshit and there is nothing I could’ve done differently to have avoided the negative feedback

This service representative promised me that if I got a negative feedback eBay would remove it, but I have called and written and eBay is not removing this negative feedback
I don’t see how anyone is going to buy from me when it shows that I’ve got six negative feedback in one month, and it just makes me want to cry because there is nothing I could’ve done differently,
there is no way I could have made it that the post office didn’t lose the packages

In the recent past I've given up on my son, father, and girlfriend to the point that we're basically broken up sans having acknowledged it.
My son has been a total violent asshole and kicked in my door / tried to assault me. As for my father, he has always been an unsupportive dick head I keep in the dark about every aspect of my life.
Lastly the fiances younger brother and his gf just recently left after staying rent free for 4 or 5 months and he was a dick much of the time.
Stunning to have so many things go to crap at the same time, but it's literally the only common denominator in my life.
Wtf? How often do all these things line up in the same time period. I wonder if there is a fu asshole manipulating or just shitty luck.
Add to that, 2 phones and one apple mbp have been hacked (genius / store I bought phone from diagnosed, not crazy). And probably more not yet diagnosed.
Anyone ever had this sort of terrible runs when neither psychosis or substance use disorder were the answer?
Really want to expend spectacular aggression but there is absolutely no one clearly deserving receipt.

The commonwealth’s estimate of Karen Read’s blood alcohol range is not forensically suitable and should be disregarded by the jury due to all sorts of reasonable doubt.
Introduction
I am not a lab tech, biologist or other sort of expert on human metabolism or toxicology. I do, however, have some education in organic chemistry and a practical understanding of some aspects of anatomy, physiology, biology and pharmacology. For those in the healthcare field that are offended by my deviations from APA formatting, please forgive me: for I absolutely hate APA, I am saddened when I am forced to use it, and I am just not going to follow a specific style guide for this post. In-text citations will not be used, references will be both disorganised and poorly formatted. I will indicate references in-text through the use of numbers in superscript. All times will be given in 24 hour format, not military format, I don’t know why the military is allergic to colons, but I like them, so they’re coming in! I did not proof read this, it’s already taken way too much of my life. I am also quite disappointed that my formatting won't paste properly into the post editor, the markdown editor is very clunky.
Testimony from the Karen Read trial involving the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ opinion of Karen Read’s blood alcohol level at the alleged time of the alleged vehicle strike on John O’Keefe piqued my interest. Particularly I was fascinated by the fact that no direct alcohol breath test or blood test was performed, nor were any tests performed to detect any alcohol metabolite, although I have yet to find a news source that has stated as much, in fact they either omit the test type or misrepresent the test as one to detect the presence of alcohol in blood serum^{2,3,4,5,6.8,etc ad nauseum}.. Instead Dr. Gary Faller, pathologist at Good Samaritan Medical Center, testified that a serum test was run to detect the presence of NADH¹. I know what you’re thinking: “Why did they perform a screening test using an ubiquitous endogenous redox agent with no forensic validity¹³ instead of for alcohol or an alcohol metabolite like acetaldehyde, ethyl glucuronide or ethyl sulphate⁷?” and yeah, that’s what I’m thinking, too! For forensically valid results there needs to be a confirmatory test done¹³, which clearly either didn’t happen or wasn’t useful - otherwise it would have been introduced by the prosecution. So I have put this together to show what NADH testing means, why it is used, how it works and what the limitations of this testing are.
The Basics
Testing for NADH is done to screen for the presence of alcohol. Screening tests are a fast-and-cheap way of getting an idea of what’s going on, and are used when precision and certainty are not necessary. For example if you are in a hospital and have someone on a psych hold, you might want to get an idea of whether their behaviour is in part driven by consumption of drugs. Their life doesn’t depend on the answer and neither does their freedom (beyond the short-term). Forensic lab testing for alcohol uses dual-column gas chromatography or gas chromatography/mass spectrometry¹³. These are large, expensive, delicate machines so you don’t just send everything to GC/MS analysis without a good reason, just like you’re not going to get a CT scan for a sprained thumb. If you are a hospital and the cops want a blood sample for forensic analysis you can just draw blood for them, put it in the freezer until they pick it up, and then it’s the cops’ problem. Hospitals are not in the business of forensics.
So why Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-H testing? Well that’s simple enough. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is an essential, innate redox agent that exists in all your cellular fluids and is there to accept hydrogen atoms as other substances are oxidized¹⁴. It therefor exists in different redox states, the oxidised state NAD+ and the reduced state NADH. “nicotinamide adenine nucleotide (NAD) is required in more enzymatic reactions than perhaps any other small molecule^16.” These two forms are non-destructively converted back and forth in various biochemical reactions, but the nucleotide can be consumed in certain reactions so it has to be constantly manufactured by the body in order for us to continue living.. NAD is synthesised in the liver, nerve cells and immune cells, and salvaged for reuse in a wide variety of tissues.
The primary way alcohol is metabolised it interacts with a class of enzymes called alcohol dehydrogenases¹⁵ (confusingly abbreviated ADH, despite not being structurally similar to NADH). When a molecule of ethanol is oxidised two hydrogen atoms get knocked off, one off the -OH alcohol group, and one off the carbon atom the -OH group is attached to, so the -OH becomes an =O converting the ethanol to an aldehyde called ethanal or more commonly acetaldehyde. These hydrogen atoms are accepted by the NAD+, reducing it to NADH. You have a limited supply of NAD+. Drugs whether recreational or medical, or other substances that are metabolised by oxidation will compete for NAD+, raise NADH levels and slow the metabolism of alcohol. Other oxidation reactions will pump up the NADH levels too. These variables are huge! Worse still, NAD+ conversion to NADH is heavily effected by cellular metabolism, meaning that acute stress and exercise will convert NAD+ into NADH as well¹⁴. Finally multiple sclerosis, which Karen Read has, will approximately double the baseline serum NADH level.¹⁷ Karen Read undergoing acute stress. CPR is exercise. Was she on other medications that increase NADH levels?
Rates of alcohol metabolism can vary up to 4-fold, especially since it occurs primarily in the stomach and liver. Large amounts of ADH are released in the stomach, so when drinks are consumed on an empty stomach they are dumped into the intestines quickly and are absorbed into portal circulation without giving the stomach ADH a chance to mitigate the effects, but then alcohol will be metabolised more quickly after ingestion. Liver damage will slow the rate of metabolism as well.
The Testimony
Dr. Faller reports a time of blood draw around 09:08-09:13 , the blood was centrifuged and seperated, the plasma was put into a machine that tested for alcohol giving result of 93mg/dl serum alcohol level. This, if accurate, would be higher than the whole blood alcohol level. The doctor refused to even ballpark this to a percentage for either serum or whole blood. He did acknowledge that LDH and hemolysis and bilirubin levels can interfere but should be flagged. The defence did bring up abnormal muscle degeneration, and so on but the doctor wasn’t aware of this literature. I don’t know that the defence couldn’t proceed due to this, but I feel they may have missed a trick here. Hopefully they will call a more informed expert on NAD/NADH metabolism.
The forensic toxicologist estimated her peak whole blood alcohol percentage at between 0.135 and 0.292 assuming last drink at 00:45 but I don’t want to even get deeply into these estimates because they’re built on a foundation of sand: we don’t really know when Karen Read started drinking, how much she drank, when she stopped drinking, or how much the NADH test was thrown off by stress, activity, disease or medication. We didn’t also didn’t get into any description of the test process itself. We don’t know if the machine measured NADH once, or if it measured NADH before and after adding ADH, or if it measured NADH only after adding ADH. We don’t know enough to evaluate this information.
On either basis, the results should be discarded.
Armchair Forensics
Personally I think Karen was drunk, at some point, but “is this evidence good enough to secure a conviction for an OWI?” is a whole other question. So is “How much did she drink?”; “How impaired was she, and when?”; “when did she start and stop drinking?” and critically from a conviction standpoint “what was her BAC at the alleged time of the alleged incident, and how do we know?”
We can kind of armchair lab tech this, given some assumptions. I don’t have access to the actual bar receipts but it seems probable, based on what I can find in the news^9,10,11, that while at the two bars she had somewhere between 8 and 15 standard drinks depending on if any of those drinks were doubles. She was drinking these between 20:58 approximately 00:00. I do not have information at this point eliminate pre- and post-drinking, all these people seem like they drink quite a bit. I can’t even discount the possibility that she got up at 04:30 and slammed some back. If we assume that these are all the drinks she had before the alleged incident, and she didn’t have any after the alleged incident, and we accept a weight estimate at 60kg/132lbs¹² then we can use a simple web tools to estimate her BAC(Appendix A). The results are generally mortifying, with estimates essentially ranging from ‘maybe unable to walk without assistance’ to an acute medical emergency . Maybe Karen can hold her liquor quite well or maybe these calculators were all designed by and for lightweights since evidently my wife and basically any girlfriend I’ve ever had could evidently drink the average BAC calculator designer under the table.
Conclusion
Without access to receipts, and since “no one appeared drunk” and at no point did anyone testify to detecting the odour of alcohol from her: not the paramedics, not the cops, not the ER doctor, not her so-called friends so based on my armchair BAC results (appendix A) show either she was stinking drunk and somehow no one noticed or she didn’t actually consume 8+ standard alcoholic drinks in 3 hours. I lean towards the former, but without confirmatory, forensic testing I don’t see how this gets to the “beyond reasonable doubt” standard. I don’t understand why the first police on the scene didn’t perform a PBT on her based on their testimony that she was saying anything like “did I hit him?” or “I hit him.” It also doesn’t make any sense that no one applied for a blood draw warrant once the picture supposedly started getting more clear.
We have another estimated 3+ weeks of trial for things to develop, and clearly there’s information I have not and/or can not access, but I find it very striking that yet again we have supposed forensic evidence that is not up to snuff. In combination with all the other shenanigans and incompetence displayed during and after the investigation this entire process starts looking like it has more to do with tunnel-vision, conspiratorial afterthought, and/or prosecutorial sleight-of-hand.
If I were on the jury I would be fighting to acquit based on copious amounts of doubt regarding essentially every element of every charge.

Appendix A: BAC Calculator results

https://smartserve.ca/bac-chart/ has limited weight inputs, if we pick 125lb female and 8 drinks over 3 hours we get a peak BAC of 0.25, a shocking 3+ times the legal limit and physically dangerous, with risks including inadequate breathing pattern, incontinence, inability to walk without assistance and loss of consciousness. Smartserve ballparks an alcohol elimation rate of 1 standard drink per hour, so in the 8-drink scenario, on Jan 29 at 04:53 when she called Jen McCabe she should have had the equivalent of 0-3 drinks left in her system, and none whatsoever when her blood was drawn, but the NADH based estimate for her BAC at time of draw (09:08)was 0.093%1. Unfortunately this calculator goes to a maximum of 9 drinks, so it was clearly designed by and for lightweights but we don’t need to assume any of these drinks were doubles based on the mortifying results from this and other calculators.
I next tried https://alcohol.org/bac-calculato set for female 132 pounds, 8 drinks with a time since first drink of 3 hours 15 minutes to give blood alcohol at 00:15. It gives 0.31% and states “You're probably not reading this because there's a good chance that you're unconscious. This BAC indicates alcohol poisoning, and there is a very serious risk of long-term damage or death. If you or someone you're with are at this BAC level, you should seek immediate medical assistance.” I played around with this calculator a bit and it turns out it is also designed by and for lightweights. Nevertheless, it suggested that BAC would be back to 0 in 21 hours, which would be around 21:15 on January 29th.

Hello. I really hope this forum can help me with this as neither customer service nor host can explain. I've been trying to understand for 6 days now.
I recently rented a VRBO for an upcoming trip. I noticed the 2 amounts for payment 1 and 2 do not equal the total I agreed to. My card has been charged $1004.60 rather than $913.48.
If you'll look at receipt you'll see the total was to be $913.48 for stay. I've been charged $1004.60 and I know I owe $400 at property for refundable deposit which is fine.
If you'll look at the 2 bottom #'s for payments they equal $1004.60, not the $913.48 indicated in total. I can't figure out where the other $91.22 came from.
The host has been extremely rude and very evasive on responding to me.
I really really appreciate your help on this. I've been trying for 6 days now to get help & the host (Luiz at Wonder Vacation Homes) had me in tears. I'm actually scared to even stay there now as he was so aggravated at me persistence. I've read horror stories on Google about them keeping damage deposits wrongfully so I intend to fully document the rental arrival arrival and leaving.

There comes a point in any battle where momentum starts to wane. It’s only natural of course, but it can spell doom for one side or the other. And the idea of momentum is not exclusive to the attacking force either, the defenders can have their own momentum of a sort, it's much slower than that of their attackers, more intent on regaining every inch they may have lost or simply holding the line.
Luckily for us, our momentum was a hungry beast and the enemy had many, many morsels to provide it. Every loss we both suffered only fueled our growing numbers, the implacable nature of a zombie horde, soon supplemented by golems, was enough to grind our foes down to the point where their will to fight simply shattered. It could be regained, perhaps once they reached far more defensible positions, but we would be right on their heels, eager to bleed them again.
A jolt ran through my staff and arm as I used it to bat away a Dominion soldier who’d somehow managed to slip past my guards, the strength of the blow sending him spinning away into a wall. We pushed on, a voice leaving my lips I had never heard before. Hissing, spitting, guttural arachne speech of a sort not heard since the first days of our people flowed from me, imbuing those amongst my ranks who heard it with unnatural resolve, strength and vitality.
One street at a time fell to my army, houses burned and screams filled the air. The dragon streaked by, another bout of flame erupting from skeletal jaws to ignite another bastion of resistance. If the Dominion had seemed brutal before, now they seemed pleasant in the wake of my passing.
I knew, deep down, this night would haunt me forever, but it was nothing compared to the suffering that had been wrought at their hands. We were only paying them back for it.
At last we reached the next set of walls, already rent asunder by Vez’zul’s wrath. Elite Dominion spellcasters held the breaches as best they could, immolating or electrocuting any who got too close.
Cameron appeared at my side, sweat and grime streaked over his face as I felt an arrow whizz past my ear, fired by Saevel.
“They’re holding this wall well, I’ll call up the minotaurs, we’ll break through with them.” He said and I shook my head.
“No, let the golems do it. They don’t feel pain and are far sturdier than a minotaur.” I waved a hand, four golems lumbering forward, gathering up more corpses to make themselves larger and tougher. With a gurgling, bloodcurdling roar from them they charge the largest breach, spells searing away flesh and causing muscles to spasm, but as I had said, they were far sturdier than any minotaur.
And they felt no pain.
A whirlwind followed, the spellcasters swept aside by bone claws and clubs, our forces surging through behind them. Cameron and I followed, though he quickly peeled off to direct his forces elsewhere, namely at the other breaches to sandwich them. I meanwhile, continued to push towards the castle, nestled safely within a circle of Queen’s Guard and a veritable sea of undead minions.
I looked up, seeing the looming mountain at the heart of the capital. I was struck with the realization that not once had I ever heard nor read the name of this city, it had always been referred to as simply the Imperial Capital. Perhaps when this was all over I would actually take the time to learn its name, if it even had one that is.
I cleared my mind of such thoughts, focusing on the battle once more. We were nearing the last and largest of the walls which yet withstood Vez’zul’s assault upon them. While the wall itself had yet to be breached, the forces atop it were being decimated by Vez’zul, who made multiple passes along the length of the wall to bathe it in fire.
A thought came to me then, and I reached out to the dragon, directing it to land before us, my horde of undead stopping and swaying. Those who followed me and yet lived looked curious about this decision before I turned to them to speak.
“When he lands, find refuge within his bones! He shall carry you over the wall! Only our finest fighters are to do so.” Many heads nodded and the dragon landed with a crack of thunder. So large he was that his bones shattered buildings with the merest touch.
I looked down at my feet, calling upon another ally to heed my words. A small spider scampered up my body and into the palm of my hand.
“Send word to your cousins. They are to aid the dwarves in clearing and securing the sewers, then they shall attack the final wall from below together. Be quick, little one.” I whisper, the spider bobbing before leaping away to do my bidding. I lifted my gaze and lowered myself to the ground to rest. I could take the time to do so.
Now all we had to do was wait.

In the darkness of the sewers, cannons boomed and dwarves charged reckless into Dominion holdouts. Axes, daggers and cudgels flashed in the gloom, cries were cut short as one by one defenses fell. Some held out longer than others, others fell almost immediately under the combined assault.
It was the last few that were closest to the final wall that proved more than capable of fending off the cannon shots, much to the annoyance of the dwarves who manned them. The lead dwarf, a soot covered fellow huffed as he watched another cannon get turned to slag by a spell. He jumped when he felt something tap his bare neck, turning his head quickly to find himself looking at a spider on his shoulder.
He was about to brush it away when it raised its forelegs and waved them about, before pointing at the barricade that was giving them so much trouble.
“Are… are ye trying to tell me something?” He asked, the spider bobbing in place. It turned to face something behind him, and he followed suit, only to find himself face to face with the largest spider he’d ever seen. It chittered something, then hissed, shivering as it tried to do something.
“Queen…commands. Weeee…..diiiiiig. Heeeelllllp you fiiiiight….” THe spider spoke, though it was clearly struggling to do so. He felt unnerved by it all but then again he’d broke bread with other monsters over the past few months, this was just another tick in the ‘weird happenings’ column.
“R-Right… Uh… we won’t get in the way. Do as you will.” He said, the large spider bobbing much like the smaller one had before it shuffled backwards, allowing him to see that the tunnel was rather literally covered with more of them. It chittered and screeched, before using its forelegs to tear up brick and mortar, then through the dirt that lay beneath. The other spiders did the same, either through the walls, the floor and even the ceiling, leaving gaping holes behind.
The dwarf nodded, watching as the little spider on his shoulder left him at last, a shiver running down his spine. He turned his attention back to the task at hand and he didn’t have to wait long for things to get bad for the enemy. From all directions the spiders attacked, punching holes in every surface around the Dominion soldiers, reaching out with grasping legs and banking soldiers into the dark tunnels they’d made. Chaos erupted in their ranks and he would take full advantage of it.
“Cannons! Concentrate your fire on the center!” He bellowed, the cannon crews aiming their guns and firing. As he had hoped, the barricade did not do so well against focused fire, a hole blown open in it that his melee warriors could use.
The berserkers amongst them didn’t even wait for him to give the order, they just charged into the fray. In moments they were through and the bastion had fallen. Both dwarf and spider continued onwards, with the lead spider pointing upwards after crossing some invisible line. The spiders began to buddy up, digging towards the surface and creating passages that his dwarves could easily use. Larger tunnels were being constructed as well for his cannons to utilize. How thoughtful of them.
“Alright you mine lovin’ bastards! Let’s get out there and show those tall folk who fights the hardest!” He yelled, the dwarves cheering and rushing into the tunnels the spiders had made.

I did not have to wait long for the attack to begin on the last wall, the sound of clashing steel and the boom of cannonfire was all the indication I needed that my forces had emerged from below.
“Go Vez’zul, ferry my fighters to the top of the wall!” I called out, the dragon now rising into the air with the beating of giant wings. He roared, circling a moment before he did a low and slow pass along the wall, the warriors nestled in his ribcage dropping out and immediately clashing with any remaining defenders.
At least I knew the city could be breached… if the need ever arose. I hope I won't have to raise an army against this place again.
I watched as the fighting raged, though I could see little of it from where I stood. Soon enough though the gates that barred my way began to open, and I marched my group forwards, eager to put an end to this.
Behind the wall it was chaos, soldiers dragged underground, zombies swarming groups of Dominion troops and crushing them under their sheer mass. Dwarven berserkers howling as they leapt onto their foes and cannoneers taking aim at any sort of fortification they saw.
Soon though there was nobody left to fight, all that remained was the mountain and the castle at its peak. I wasn’t looking forward to having to walk, but it was the only way up. With a silent command I ordered the spiders nearby to begin climbing the mountain face, other inhuman units mimicking them. I pointed my staff towards the only way up, the spiraling passage that I had once noted would be a deathtrap for any invading force.
“With me!” I call out, and those forces who could not climb nearly as easily as the monstrous peoples could gathered together and began their push. Someone within the tunnel was a bit too eager to see us crushed, as a giant flaming boulder came rolling out from the tunnels entrance, slamming into a small building nearby. I raised a hand, then directed my undead forces to take the lead. Let them trigger the traps so the living could sweep away what remained of the defenses afterwards.
It was a surprisingly slow tactic, zombies aren’t fast, even the runner variants I had at my disposal were still running uphill, which severely hampered their speed. But as we waited more and more flaming boulders came rolling out, and we would all shift now and then to avoid getting hit by them. But finally there were no more boulders to be seen, and so we pressed on once more.
What we were met with was a tunnel filled with smoke, flames and jellied corpses. Viscera painted the entire passage in a way that made me sick to my stomach. Grimacing, we continued on, stepping as carefully as we could while maintaining some semblance of a formation. Eventually we did reach the dregs of my undead army, clambering at the last of the defenses, having managed to break through several in their unrelenting push.
We swept through it with ease, and after what felt like hours we finally reached the summit. I won’t lie, but I really need to keep myself in shape, because I was terribly winded by the time we made it up to the castle. A castle already swarming with my spiders, arachne forces attempting to breach the gates or attempting to gain entry via other means.
From behind came everyone else, vampires, werewolves, and all the rest, we gathered and steeled ourselves for the final act to this conflict. I called those at the entrances back to me, waiting for them all to join up with this larger force before I raised my staff, then pointed it at the main doors. A roar sounded in the distance and Vez’zul came in for a hard landing, rearing his head back and then unleashing a gout of flame at the doors. Doors which had stood the test of time and the conquest now melted under the inferno which raged against them. The flames surged into the castle, into rooms and blew out windows, allowing my spiders to enter freely. With a flick of my hand I dismissed Vez’zul, the dragon ceasing his attack and taking flight as he returned to picking off stragglers in the city below.
WIth a deep breath, I led the final charge.

Hi, me and my family are new to the US, of course before coming here we did a lot of research regarding landlord and tenant laws here in New York. Will give a few back stories.
We rented a furnished apartment for 1800 dollars a month for 2 months with one month deposit.
During our stay the landlord is giving us food every week, like a lot, and turns out it was all free from the food bank in the community. She stopped giving us free food when we where on our final month of rent.
Before moving in and during the signing of the lease contract the landlord said that the deposit will be returned after 2 weeks of moving out.
When we moved out there was an inspection and the only problem was that we stained a table with alchocol resulting into white spots, the landlord made us varnished the table and after that there were no more any problems. The keys were surrendered immediately and we also moved out before the end of our lease.
We have the signature of the landlord confirming we returned the keys on the date given. Then she said that the deposit will be returned after 30 days, we knew it wasn't legal because from what we read online from NY landlord and tenant law the deposit is supposed to be returned within 2 weeks with official receipts of the deductions from the deposit
The landlord went silent for 2 weeks and then after that the landlord keep messaging us to return what we stole, we didn't even steal anything and during the inspection there wasn't any mentioned stolen items. She (the landlord) accused us of stealing balenkets, pillows, chargers/extension cords. So, for our peace of mind, we just asked her to take it out of the deposit and clarified we didn't steal anything.
After 30 days we called the landlord and asking were our deposit is, she said that she will send an invoice within the day and will return the money. We'll guess what, she didn't send anything on that day and went silent for 2 weeks. For that 2 weeks we called her 3-5 times a day with no return, we were always left with voice mails. We also messaged her on Facebook and Zillow to get her attention.
After 2 weeks she finally responded, she sent a long message stating the deductions and total amount of money she was going to return. She only returned 1143 dollars out of 1800 dollars.
The landlord dictated in the message of the deductions such as damaged chair for 150 dollars and and change of locks for 200 dollars and more. She falsely accused a lot of damages and did not present any official receipts for repairs done.
We just decided to ask her to return the money promptly and ask for the receipts after she sends us the money.
We asked for the receipts a week later because, we decided to take a little break from that issue because it was mentally tiring to beg for our own money back for more than a month.
When we asked for the receipts she said a lot of excuses and nonsense, she said that she already gave us a 50% discount for the rent and always gave us food because we were new to the country and that we are very ungrateful for the amount of money she returned.
Like wow that's unbelievable so meaning the rent was actually 3600 dollars a month??? When we first found the apartment on zillow it was listed for 1800 a month.
Then she continued to like, explode on the messages saying that we are hostile towards her.
We were just asking for the official receipts of the deductions made from our deposit. Was that so harmful? 😅
We just decided to leave it alone then now, a month after that event, she texted us saying
"return the ladder that you stole or I will press charges against you"
We did not borrow any ladder from her and we definitely did not steal any ladder 😂 when we were moving out the things that we were bringing into our car can be even seen on her ring camera.
What can my family do in this situation? Any recommendations and advice will help 🙏

Biden ran on unifying the country and turning down the temperature. Biden has worsened our divisions and made Americans poorer and less safe than when he assumed office. Inflation does not lie and biden and his lapdog media cannot gaslight high fuel and energy costs, high grocery items and durable goods costs away. Biden and his water carriers can lie and gaslight all day long,.. the vast vast majority of Americans are not fooled. The grocery and gas and diesel receipts don't lie. Under the Democrats' control of Congress and the White House, energy costs and the price of everyday goods have skyrocketed, our enemies no longer fear us, violent crime and shoplifting is on the rise, our supply chain is broken, and unvaccinated and untested illegal immigrants (often with criminal records) are welcomed into the United States along with fetenyl and other bad drugs. Rents and housing is taking up in some cases 50% of peoples disposable income ,that means less $$ to spend on groceries and other things and this has a ripple impact on the economy. People are not able to afford homes or buy cars or go on vacations. I wish i could name even 1 good thing Biden has done for this country ,but I cant, all he has done is damage this nation. He also damaged this nation as a Senator he was racist (think Clarence thomas hearing) and "vote for me or you ain't black" and he is a pedo always touching small kids and women very creepy. Pedo Joe has got to go. Biden also never ever voted against a war or a tax increase.

Please read. Any legal advice is welcomed.
I have been living in same house for more than a decade. I have always paid my rent on time. I had respectful communication with landlord. Landlord always fixed everything that I needed to be fixed. He wasn't neglectful at all. I am acquainted with someone that knows landlord's family since the 80's. Acquaintance informed me in March 2024 that landlord had said in a gathering that he was going to put the property for sale on the market in January 2025. Landlord also said that he was going to raise my rent in July 2024 and then again in January 2025. As soon as property sold in 2025, he was going to give me fifteen days in advance to vacate premises. I was floored when acquaintance informed me of this. Also, acquaintance gave me the advice to start looking for another place because landlord was serious about selling.
I was so scared because I have adults that are scheduled for outpatient's surgeries this year, minors with medical needs and pet dogs living with me in property. Minor children attend schools in area. Thankfully, school year was over on Thursday. Landlord was fine when he rented to me and all my family, pets included.
I started looking for another place since March 2024. Also, I started looking into programs to buy my own house. I have been doing my research on my own on google and I have been informed that with minor kids, the state of Florida tends to favor tenants for an average of three months even though Florida is a state that favors landlords. I spoke to my landlord in May 2024 and told him that I am in the process of purchasing a house. I told him that I have a minor child and by right I have 90 days. Also, I told him that when I moved in, I paid first, last and deposit. I didn't pay the rent for May 2024. I told him that I would be gone by July 2024. He turned red in anger and dropped so many 'F' bombs that I lost count. He called me an effing loser and that I was so effing broke that he knew I was not going to buy effing anything. He yelled at me that he knew that I have no effing money. Also, I told him that I was not asking for cash for keys like the previous tenant. Note: He paid previous tenant (single adult male) $5,000.00 dollars so he could leave. Landlord got more pissed off because he thought I didn't know.
Now, landlord has sent a three day notice with a regular Joe with a regular van that reads Legal Services. It is not signed by a notary public or by a judge or anyone from clerk of courts or a law enforcement person. Regular Joe gave me letter and left. Regular Joe didn't demand a proof of receipt, signature, id, nothing. He wants me out by next week or pay up. I am so surprised that he would rather hire a lawyer and start eviction process instead of patiently waiting for me to leave peacefully. I have been googling and read that an eviction process can take weeks. I will be gone in seven weeks. Why is he going down this road, then? I am not paying because I don't have any money. I can't afford to hire a lawyer either. This year out of three jobs I lost two. I will go prose on this. This week, I will send him in writing that I will be gone by July 2024 as our previous conversation and to please keep in mind that I have minors in family. I do not want to talk to landlord because I don't want to get 'F’ bombed again.
It seems to me that landlord would rather spend money on lawyers, court fees than rather wait. I am not vandalizing property. Property has normal 'wear and tear’ of course. I have been here more than a decade. I have no money now. Also, landlord didn't give me a lease agreement since 2021. He has just been raising my rent verbally and I have been paying. I guess landlord wants to take this through eviction process. Also, I tried to look up on the county website the eviction case but three day notice letter doesn't have any case number or anything. I know evictions are public. Does this mean landlord has not hired a lawyer yet? Will I get to talk to a judge to explain all and share my side of the story? Can I request a hearing? I am just surprised that landlord wants to spend money on this if I told him I will be out by July. I want to know where do I stand? What do I file in clerk of courts when time comes? What to expect from an eviction process in the state of Florida? Once again, any legal advice is welcomed.

2024.06.08 18:55 PainandVirtue_Stuf I failed DLI, a Success Story?

In 2018, I went to DLI as a part of a re-class aka I said I will re-up if you send me to DLI and the powers that be made that happen.
After 4 years in the MI community, but in a MOS that at the time didnt have a language requirement, I thought I could add to my resume and skill set and prep myself for a good gig if I ended up getting out.
All I had to do was pass DLI and then move on with my career.
DLI was brutal, in its own little weird and neurotic way. The teachers were great but clearly were held in thrall by TRADOC and due to changes of command, some normal, some forced, our weekly schedule went from no organized PT, to PT every day, to PT once and week and all sorts of random formations and meetings in between. It wasnt easy sitting with 18 year olds and weird little officers who were more interesting in humble bragging than team effort but I just drove on.
The language training is....what it is. Some people thrive in it, I call those people Signals Collection professionals, and some people dont. I wont lie, I'm not very school smart, but I have managed to cobble together an AA to BA to working on my MA through pure hard work, ego and decent study habits.
At DLI, I struggled but I studied my ass off. Podcasts in the gym in the morning, flashcards during breaks and lunch, 3+ hours of HW nightly followed by a youtube video in target lang before bed. I wasnt the best student and I clashed with one particular prof but come DLPT time, I had a 3.6 and was having truly engaging and interesting conversations with the profs in the target lang, was watching the daily news at normal speed and was thinking I would at the min get a 2/2+ ( Reading wasnt that bad for me, but listening was a challenge)
DLPT comes around.
1 Listening / 3 Reading with a 2+ in OPI.
I failed.
When the profs and the MLI pulled me into the room I walked in with some confidence, thinking I had passed. When they told me I was the only person in my section that failed and what my score was, I just sorta stared at them. I never even thought this was possible. Even they seemed suprised and dissapointed.
Not gonna lie, the walk home was rough and I had a bad night.
Because I had failed the requirements of the new MOS, I was placed at needs of the military. Yeah.
I was thinking that I could go back to my old job but turns out, that wasnt in the cards for me and the HR gods had spoken. I ended up in an admin MOS, a salty fairly experienced mid-career MI professional who was now amongst the fattest, angriest, laziest fucks ever to grace the uniform. If there was an award for peak apathy, this particular MOS would take all the nominations.
I spent the first 3 months depressed. Drinking, being angry and getting fat as fuck. It had an affect on my mental health and my family as this was the first time I had ever failed at anything and it was crushing me.
So there I was, a loser, not getting the job I wanted, stuck in a non-MI, very undesirable field for the next couple years. But a loser who spoke another language at a decent fluency.
So I decided fuck this, nothing says I cant keep getting after this and from that point on, I made about 80% of my daily effort about righting this wrong.
I picked up the studying again. Free time? Flash cards. Sitting around while everyone is circle-jerking about going to selection or how they basically have a 100% rating coming? Youtube clips on verbs. If I was sitting at work and I was getting paid, I had two screens up with one being language training. Nothing says you cant study like a dude getting lang pay, nothing says you cant continue to use DLI/DLPT study tools.
This is where my advice to any others in a similar predicament starts and I'm highlighting it twice because its that important.
EVERYTHING IN THE MILITARY IS WAIVERABLE. EVERYTHING....
6 months later, I took the DLPT again. 2+/3.
I now had a passing DLPT score. So I started applying to things. All things, Everything.
4 week SLTE ? Only linguists? Waiver. Accepted and spent 4 weeks abroad in target lang.
2 week online course with a random university? Waiver, accepted, 2 weeks sitting at a coffee shop with headphones in.
Then came the good stuff. Turns out there are a lot of DOD embassy positions all over the world. And some languages cover a fair number of countries in a region. I started applying. I started emailing everyone. With about 10 mins of google you can find mil bios, contact information, command team distros etc.
I got shot down about 75% of the time. But then I got a few positive responses. Had to be certain SOF MOSs, guess what comes next? Waiver.....
Did my first embassy tour in 2021. 6 months. Best immersion ever. You are pretty popular when the majority of the team doesnt speak the target lang. The first time you get folks better seats, free drinks or help support partner force training, you feel like a real valued asset.
Turns out SOCOM/INSCOM/JSOC have a bunch of fun programs. All MOS immaterial or..... waiver!
Got shot down a lot but emails are free and dont hurt. Next thing you know, transferred into a command where anyone that has a DLPT gets lang pay. Couple hundred bucks a month didnt hurt. Did two more lang trainings that year as a non language enabled non MI soldier.
I write this all as I'm sitting on an airplane on the way to my second embassy tour as a support dude.
Ill be making hazard duty pay, lang pay, jump pay, daily per-diem as well as living in a rent free house with maids and cooks, watching and learning from real OGA/SOF professionals for the next year.
All because I failed the DLPT.
This isnt a humble brag, I get shot down far more often than I approved for things.
But I took a fairly impactful event that brought me down pretty bad and made something out of it. For a couple weeks after I dropped the ball on the DLPT, my place of duty was sitting around with the other failures, mowing grass and sitting for hours on end at a duty desk watching my former classmates celebrate passing and heading out into the word. A lot of those dudes and dudettes ended up motor-t or cooks or infantry, which is perfectly fine, but when its involuntary can make a hard 4 years...
So I write this hopefully impacting one person who failed. Know that its not the end of the world. Dont spend the next 4 years of your contract bitching and whining and telling everyone how you got screwed over, even if you like me feel like you did.
Do something about it. Learn what S1Net, Mil Suite, TOD, WIAS Taskers are. Email all the recruiters at the cool guy units and ask how to volunteer with a clear, precise and self-aware email.
Never take no for an answer and remember that LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN THE MILITARY CAN BE WAIVERED!!!!

I, 30f, live with a roommate, 34f, for the purpose of splitting rent. We've been living together for going on a year now and share all the spaces and appliances, minus our bedrooms of course. We have our own section of the fridge/freezer, and put our names on everything thats ours.
This has worked well for nearly the entire year except now.
I had a day off work and my roommate didnt. I was playing my game on the main tv since the one in my room quit recently. I figured this was okay since she was at work, i planned to move when she came home.
However she came home in a bad mood and asked me what i was doing. I told her i was playing my game and would shut it off as soon as i saved it, i was in the save menu.
She just mumbled a ‘whatever’ and told me she was going to get food.
She left again and i kept playing, since she left.
She came back maybe an hour later, but i wasn’t there, i had went out myself to give another friend a ride home from their job.
When i got back my roommate was sitting on the couch, watching a movie.
I asked her how her lunch was and she just looked at me and went back to watching her movie. I figured she needed alone time so i went to make myself a sandwich. However when i opened the fridge i saw most of my food was gone! I went to the living room and asked her where my food went? She said “oh, i got rid of it. It’s not like you need more food. All you ever do is eat, play games and sleep.”
I looked at her. I didn’t know what to do or say. Im very non-confrontational and felt very self conscious, im a slightly bigger girl, at her comment. I asked her again what she did with it and she said gave it to some homeless people nearby.
I went to my room and cried a bit. I don’t always play games, and am fairly clean, though not perfect. I do sleep a lot but i get up at 4am to go to work so of course im sleepy.
Would i be the butthole if i asked her to either pay me back for my food, as i cant rebuy any at the moment, or ask her to leave?
I know she may have had a bad day. And until not she had never done something like this, though she does always complain about my games, which i usually play in my room when i can. And i also know she may not have anywhere to go if i ask her to leave. But im upset and giving away my food when she knows i dont have the money to get more right now seems highly unfair.

Our rental agreement lists both our names with PAN card details, along with the owner's. If I choose to stick with the old tax regime, can I claim the full rent amount, considering my roommate transfers their share to me via UPI, and I am responsible for making the final payment to the landlord? Could this raise concerns with the IT department, given their heightened scrutiny of deductions and recent notices being sent out? Even if I can provide receipts for deductions, might authorities question why I've rented a 2 BHK flat while living as a bachelor? I'll be paying a total rent of ₹50,000 per month, which accounts for around 40% of my monthly salary.
