2024.05.16 02:41 downbythemountain I Bought an Aftermarket Carburetor from Amazon

So far, it's working ok without any problems. It didn't even need to be tuned to my Stihl FS38 string trimmer. I'm a small engine mechanic, and I would never install an aftermarket carburetor on any of my customers' equipment, only OEM. However, since this is my equipment, I wanted to test it and see what happens. Don’t worry, my Walbro is sitting on the bench ready to be reinstalled at any time. Tell me about your experience with aftermarket carburetors, and why you would or wouldn't use one.

2024.05.13 06:10 SnooMarzipans7387 Lithium batteries any good for a drift spec s14?

Is anyone here using these kind of batteries? This small lithium battery is ated at 8Ah (99Wh) and 700-amps of starting power. My car will be driven on street but it does not have too much electronics going on. No ac/hearter, no audio unit. It has dual electric fans, walbro 450 fuel pump and some gauges. On winter time, planning to remove it from the car and leaving inside on a battery tendebalancer. Thanks!

2024.05.11 04:51 Skilzz88 Passing emissions

Just seeking extra help to ensure I can pass the emissions test. A few years ago the 300zx was tagged, it lapsed and I went through and it failed emissions. Limit is 1.2 and I got a 1.40. Previously I had 1.16. Only difference was a manual swap, 450 walbro installed and a tomei fuel pressure regulator, and a z1 tune chip. So I turned the fuel pressure down to about 25. Not sure how low I can go. I put it in the old concept z performance chip. And someone told me a trick with the vacuum tube coming from the oem fuel dampener to the balance tube. I believe I should be able to get back to under 1.2 but looking for tricks, tips, etc or whatever I have to do to get it to pass so I can antique it. Thank you!

06 LGT need help passing emissions in CO... #CornFed
Hey Subi fam, as the title suggests I'm struggling to pass emmisions in Norther CO. I built the lego in NM with emissions not being a thing, and am paying the price try I ng to make it legal here in NoCo. Heres the build, late 05'born on date so 05/06 some parts subaru LegacyGT 2.5. Ig it's stage 3 or 4 idk anymore.. but it has Cobb cai, perrin inlet, FMIC, vf52, Cobb dp, namless vat back, go fast bits adjustable BOV/ recirculating valve, 3 port ebcs, TGV deletes, radium racing Top mount conversion and upgraded fuel lines, ID 1k injectors, walbro fuel pump (iir450), southbend stage 3 clutch, kartbo short throw shifter linkage, Dave From CryoTuned e85 and 91 oct maps, and of course a Cobb AP3.
Pic of emissions failure.. I think I should be able to ge5 this thing to pass. It's possible the right gla ds are tired and maybe so oil getting to the intake/ exhuast. I took it with the 5th e85 revision loaded and (regrettably?) A full taNk of e85.. the cluelss tech said the HC GPM failure @~2.3 might be because the stock system is supposed to have regular gas? Idk how accurate that is. But I plan to run some cat clean or what ever to try and get the NOx GPM down from 2.4 under the allowed 1.5. Was also thinking of loading the initial e85 map (safe one my guess with less timing and adjustments etc) and see if that helps the HC failure.
Here for ideas and input.. here I was thinking e85 eas "cleaner" burning than 91 Oct and I'd be able pass no problem smmfh this has been a headache.
Another idea was to find a stock DP and ilgive that a go. Just not sure if the e85 is helping or hurting and if I need to drain the (full!) Tank and toss some peteo in instead?

Hi,
Who is the best and most responsive tuner for N54 single turbo setup? I have messaged both CD919 and David Shoup and they both seem really responsive and nice. Are there any other tuners you would recommend? If so, why? Let me know your favorites.
I'm open for anyone. Currently leaning towards CD919 since he has been super helpful even before getting my money out of pocket :D

2024.05.01 00:55 SnooDoggos3258 Mx5 turbo not starting

Hi everyone,
Quick overview of the car DIYefi ecu Ev14 injectors Toyota cops
Recently my car has stopped running properly, It began after the car overheated however I don’t think it’s related (the car ran fine for a few days after the overheating)
after overheating Initially the car idled fine, however once driving the car under load even out of boost It would run extremely lean, suspected a fuel delivery issue nearly new walbro 225 fitted recently so I suspected the filter,
Once I changed the filter I tried to start the car the car now feels like there’s no spark as it doesn’t kick at all, can hear the pump prime on the key.
The symptoms currently as the car sits:
Thanks in advance

2024.04.29 04:37 xPerondini 12.5 AFR on E100 under boost

Hey everyone!
So, just got a new (for me) 2014 Evo X few days ago (upgraded from a Sportback Ralliart), and this one runs on E100 (ethanol), it has a AEM340 in tank, a Walbro on the surge, a fuel pressure regulator and uses Bosch 108lbs injectors. Right now i get around 12.5 AFR at WOT, the tuner said the target is around 11.5 on E100, so, i'll soon start to investigate why it's running leaner, but i needed to know if this is too lean to the point where it could damage my engine, or if it's fine to run it like that. I'm on stock turbo btw

Upgraded my fuel pump about a year ago after my factory one decided to take 💩. Had some weird misfiring issue that I just couldn’t pinpoint, until now. 2024.04.23 03:38 Crowley700 Hello fellow automotive equestrians

the time has come that I build my first car. I've chosen the fifth generation s197 GT (pre face lift, 4.6 liter model). I have never built an engine so I will be having people help me along the way, but the parts I put into it are entirely bought by me and chosen by me. I plan on fully building this mustang within the next 3 years in several stages. they are as follows:
Stage 1 (internals): Full engine rebuild with new parts that can handle high horsepower.
Stage 2 (Airflow): Turbocharger, intakes, and upgraded exhaust
Stage 3 (Handling): suspension, aero, and wheels
Stage 4 (cosmetics): Wrap and whatnot
At the moment I have compiled a list of all the parts I want to put in my engine, but I don't know if I'm overspending or missing anything. I'm looking to get the entire rebuild done for about 7-7.5k because I need to save room for a dyno tune and I only have about 8.2k in total i can put into this car at the moment. Each stage will have its own budget going forward and I decided on 7.5k plus shipping and tune to be a good number for an engine rebuild ill preform myself (with help from my very experienced mechanic friend)
P.S the goal is to rebuild the engine once and not have to go back and add something/replace something. Post turbo I'm looking to hit maybe 650-700 hp if not a little more as I'm not trying to build a dragster, I'm going more for a track car.
here's the list of parts, please don't go easy on me I want to learn.

Having issues with fuel leaking past the carb into the cylinders. Verified that it’s in the oil (smell test was easy). I’m thinking I need to clean out the carb and check the float. 2024.04.21 20:30 Saab675R Shifts fixed but new mic broke halfway :(

Shifts fixed but new mic broke halfway :(
Halfway through the shifter linkage and transmission video, the lightening adapter broke off the receiver, so lame. Will shoot a new one this week hopefully!
Turns out, I was maybe 3/4-1 full turn off the bolt where the shifter meets the rod linkage and that was giving me enough play to where I could only catch 1-5 (no reverse) or 3-R (no 1-2). Eventually I was able to adjust to the point where I had all gears but tricky shifts in 1&2. This took hours of adjusting, screaming, and questioning my sanity. After 1-2 days of driving like this and having a tough time at lights, I parked the car and went the route of unnecessary customization.
It felt like I had excessive play at the shifter no matter what I tried. Essentially the whole thing felt like neutral. I thought of trying a custom rod linkage with new spherical supports to attempt to increase the side to side distance on the shift linkage. My thinking was if the distance between the points was longer, I would take less side to side movement to catch the gears, I.e less play at the shifter in the cabin. That inherently came with its own unique obstacles and ended up not working either.
That being the case, I decided to take everything apart and put it all back together. Stripped everything inside and out, took a smoke break, stared at it all, and prayed everything would work this time. Put it all back together, used the tried and true alignment method in 4th and bam, was catching every gear like nothing was ever an issue and may I say it absolutely slaps now. This transmission I had rebuilt a few years back has a Quaife diff so it’s a big upgrade.
Drove the car down to class that night with no problems at all and buttery smooth shifts. Then on the way back the fuel pump died on me at 11pm on the parkway. I couldn’t help but laugh as I was pushing it off the side of the exit and luckily into a parking lot. On the plus side, I think I just found the culprit to my inconsistent boost cut.
Sometimes when mashing my foot down, the boost would go all the way up into the red and then cut back to limp mode. I was thinking, maybe a vacuum leak or some thing with the evap, but was getting no lights or codes. Literally everything was replaced so I doubted lines and connections. The fuel pump shitting the bed definitely explains some of the occasional prolonged cranks I was getting and the boost cut if the ECU suspected the trim was off while I was pushing it. Now pending walbro.
Either way this video was going to be a quick psa for those who may be having some alignment issues and also those who would like to actually see what the shift assembly looks like outside the car. I also thought it would be a good time to show the differences in some of the late 99’-02/03 model/ versus the 98-early 99’ model transmissions, linkage support, and bracket mounting points. They are all interchangeable but just be aware you may need some extras.
I grabbed my other exhaust system too so I will try and do my first exhaust sound video as well on the viggen. One with a 3” dp to factory saab sport(that’s what I had installed post rebuild), another with a 3” to 2.5 straight pipe setup , and then the 9-5 aero with 3” to factory Saab sport system, which is my personal fave. My 2.0 9-3 had the straight system and it popped and banged all over. Interested to hear the 2.3 with the straight.
Stay tuned! Here is the YouTube channel incase anyone is interested:

2024.04.18 22:10 BanginHeavies Need carb help

Have a McCulloch Eager Beaver 2014 chain saw that I cannot for the life of me get to work. It will start up, run poorly for about 10 seconds, die, and then it’s impossible to start again. I’ve cleaned the carb, replaced all the fuel lines, emptied the gas and put a fresh 40:1 mix in, new spark plug, and same issues. My next guess is the carb has something mechanically wrong with it that a simple cleaning did not fix.
Most people I’ve talked to simply say to buy a Stihl or whatever new chainsaw they like. Which, yes, that is probably the better way to go at the end of the day long term, but this has now become more of a personal mission of mine to get this thing running.
So my question- I’ve searched the internet for an Eager Beaver carburetor, but cannot find one. I want a whole new carb, not a rebuild kit. I’ve found ones that look similar, but how do I go about making sure I get the correct one? The current one is a Walbro, and I can sort of make out what looks like WT258. I’m not a chainsaw expert by any means, but I am fairly mechanically inclined. Just not a lot of experience with carbs. Hoping someone can point me in the direction of how to 1) accurately find a replacement carb and 2) see if there is anything else I may be missing here as to why it won’t run.
Thanks!
