2024.06.09 20:57 vagueambiguousname How to prevent swollen and sore knuckles...am I wrapping too tight?

After years of hitting the bag for fun I started taking 1:1 thai boxing lessons in September. The past few weeks my knuckles are sore after sessions. Last week my knuckles were not sore so I figured I just had to build resiliency and I finally got used to the impact.
But after this weeks session I had swelling between my index and ring finger knuckles on my right hand. Ice has been helping me flex the hand. After 4 days I can make a fist without pain. I am wondering if I need to get used to hitting harder, coach is pushing against the pads too hard (is that even a thing?), I am wrapping my hands too tight, or if it is something else? Using Fairtex gloves and I know I am wrapping properly.
This past week, before the session that led to the swelling, I noticed my wraps were too tight so I rewrapped. Also this week my coach told me I have better boxing than anyone else he coaches, male or female, so I did get excited and perhaps overzealous with the hits?
I feel like a badass for having the problem, but I am also concerned about long-term issues and do not want to mess up my hand.

2024.06.09 20:55 Grouchy_Tap_8264 Mom tried setting me up on a date, and it went NOT well :)

Many years ago (a bit over 2 decades) my mother seemed to be getting nuttier about idea of me marrying and her being the one to magically find. I had a very active dating life, just not who'd she prefer. My response ranged between being very irritated to slightly annoyed to a bit amused by some of her choices (5 different quite obviously gay men including 2 different men in committed relationships with a partner who were very lovely about the meddling, or a guy who was wildly the antithesis of anything resembling anyone I'd date).
One night she was out with a family friend, "Jane", and the two got a bit tipsy while waiting for respective husbands at restaurant. My mother barely ever had anything past a glass of wine at Christmas and a glass of champagne on New Years, so 3 glasses of merlot (with ice and a lemon of course) and a margarita were WAY beyond her tolerance. When my stepfather, "Bob", and another family friend (husband of mom's wine and margarita buddy) arrived at restaurant, the two had already decided I should date their server, "John Smith".
I was completely unaware of the entire situation, and answered the phone to hear my mother slurring and talking to Jane and the both giggling while forcing me onto the phone with John, while Bob told them to not give out their daughter's number without permission (thank you, Bob!). On the phone with John, I apologized for the drunk crazy ladies, and he gave me his number since Bob (Thankfully!) stopped them from giving out mine. By description, I knew he already wasn't my type (gym rat with big muscles, crew-cut, big into guns and hunting (I'm a vegetarian) and he referred to me as "a pretty little girl"). šŸš©no. 1
I called immediately after and left a voice mail message to thank him for being a good sport, and wishing him well. And went out with friends.
Later that night I received a call from an unfamiliar number; it was John. He'd star-69'ed me and used home phone to call. šŸš© no. 2. We chatted for a bit, and he said he'd still like to take me out. I declined, but he eventually convinced me while we laughed about the situation.
He wanted to meet at the same restaurant he worked at. šŸš© no. 3. And I set time for VERY early so it wouldn't be dark, and I could have 8000 excuses for ducking out. When I arrived and was greeted by the hostess, I said I was meeting someone, and to her giggles, she'd said my name, and began to lead me to where he sat. All of the other workers were popping their heads around corners, and most would come up grinning and shaking my hand, and fawning over me.
All alarms are going off. šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©
As I sit, every worker at restaurant are coming up to shake me hand, and then returning to all of them peering around corners and doors. The manager came of to insist on being server. At that age, I was still too much of a people-pleaser to just leave, and I figured I could survive date and never see him again, so I'm counting down in my head ("get drinks, 4 minutes to arrive, 2 minutes to order, 20 minutes to arrive, eat lightly for 15 minutes, 5 minutes to let him continue to eat, and no dessert, have emergency, insist on splitting bill, and out in 10" so just about an hour).
None went to plan. When I ordered a glass of wine, he declined and said that he doesn't drink. The manager brought out champagne and insisted on a toast with us while John drank water. šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš©šŸš© I downed 2 glasses of champagne.
I feel like something is going on that I'm not privy to. I was trying best to be polite and ask about his day and hobbies, and he shushes me (ā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļøā˜¹ļø) to ask if i have a favorite place. Wine arrives arrives, and I order immediately (still counting down time), and I answer about a partular temple on O'ahu, to which he responds "I've always wanted to take my future wife to an island for our honeymoon". I gulp down wine with many faces still watching around walls and doorways, and the wine is immediately refilled. Food should be here within 10 minutes.
I ask if he has a favorite place, and he says "I only want to go where my future wife does" and attempts to take my hand across table. I hear gasps from doorway, and jerk hands away. I have to pee, but I'm afraid that any of the eager faces all over might follow.
He asks about cars. I'm not a car person nor impressed about them, but Honda had just started testing a hydrogen gas vehicle and I was actually excited about it, and I used it to fill time. He sat there smiling, and said how much he'd like to buy his future wife any car she'd like as a gift for their wedding.
I'm so uncomfortable, and want to bolt, but I'm thinking that food is here, and escape is just around the corner. I ask about his hobbies, and keep making certain that I have small bites in mouth to avoid answering more of his weird questions. He proceeds to describe his gym workout. I couldn't care less, but at least he's not being weird. The manager again tries to fill glass, and I decline because I plan to bolt as soon as I pay bill, and this was already too weird without more ANYTHING.
He finally appears to be done eating (10 minutes left) and before I can decline, he asks for cheesecake for 2 and then asks me how I feel about children. I feel like I'm the subject of some horrible not joke, and just want to run. I can feel tears from discomfort behind eyes, but "being polite" was still so ingrained in me in early 20's, and I said I wasn't ready now, but I might someday.
Cheesecake arrives. He reaches across and grabs my wrist while grinning, and I look around for any of the watchers to realize I'm EXTREMELY uncomfortable, and then says "I'm dying from cancer and I'd like to marry and have my wife impregnated before I die. I have money to provide but I want my legacy carried, and even IF IMPREGNATED YOU TONIGHT I MIGHT NOT LIVE TO SEE OUR CHILD BORN" but you'd be provided for" and shoved cheesecake on my mouth. I was flapping free hand for server (I never do that at all but I wanted to leave, and I couldn't get my left out of meat-paw) and made comment "you seem healthy so I think you have more time". To which he replied "they're doing an ELECTROLYSIS treatment but there's no guarantee".
I finally get loose and throw down money that he tries to hand to me and chase, and I start practically running out as his co-workers (in hindsight, I'm sure they thought we were dating and he was "popping the question"). They all are waving in rearview as I go immediately to parent's office and grab candy dosh and throw candy at her telling her to NEVER SET ME UP AGAIN. And get to use bathroom.
I pee, and call friends to meet to play pool and drink away the horrifying date. I paid to block 2 numbers (early 2000's). I convince myself it was a horrible joke and move on. I recieve a call from an unfamiliar number, and it is stupid nutter. I go off about ELECTOLYSIS not being a treatment for cancer, horrifying me about impregnation me on first date, his creepy co-workers, and that I think he's an f-ed up liar, amd pay to block that number too.
2 days later, he calls again from yet another number, and tells me how much he'd love to have "a fiesty and intelligent wife" because I'd "protect the children well". For 6 months he kept it up. In hindsight, I should have fed a restraining order, but in 2002, they weren't exactly awesome about stalking and harrassment-- not that they are now.
After 6 months of his crap calling me from various cell phones, and he'd called yet again sobbing and begging, I screamed that he should be dead by now.
I've never heard from him again, and my idiot mom never again tried to fix me up.

2024.06.09 20:55 CybertronPhotography Barely woke up and partially fell prey to a phishing website

I got a package arriving from Japan in a couple days and I get a text from ā€œUSPSā€ about how my package canā€™t be delivered due to incomplete address information. Sounds reasonable enough. I had just barely woken up so I decided to believe it. The link that was in the text didnā€™t work so I copy pasted it into Safari before entering my name, email, phone number, and address into it. I stopped when they started asking for card information. Currently in the middle of changing passwords. Any advice guys?

2024.06.09 20:53 DoWotISay Got any life hacks, products or procedures/surgeries to get rid of Dark circles?

Iā€™m 28, Male, white. Ive always had dark circles, but over the past few years they have been getting worse and worse, to the point now people have mentioned to me on different occasions they think I've been punched and have a black eye from it. So I want to sort it out now.
I can tan well, but the dark circles donā€™t diminish whether Iā€™m tanned or not. They are not puffy at all, itā€™s literally just dark skin. I have tried a couple of eye-creams designed to lighten the skin, but they donā€™t really work, it just changes the shade of it.
I eat a very healthy diet (Donā€™t need to worry about vitamin C), drink enough water. The only negatives I can think of would be that I have sleep apnoea which affects the quality of my sleep (although I did read that little sleep has little affect on dark circle) and drink alcohol on the weekends. Dark circles doesnā€™t run in my family, so assuming itā€™s not genetic.
Any recommendations or advice is appreciate

2024.06.09 20:52 Sea-Recording-7090 Phighter Idea, Scroll

"Everything you will ever need comes from my scroll."
A shady, older Phighter in thieves den who is a strong martial artist and a user of things like ninjutsu and magic. He teaches Thieves Den members to fight with things beyond just their gear while also teaching them how to perfect fighting with their gear. He is a very strict teacher and is also hiding a lust for power and control that he pursues through his students which either end up corrupted or missing when he's finished training them. He used to be a scammer in the past who faked his skill but after getting stronger the good side of him became very well known in thieves den despite how different he is compared to the rest of the faction.
Interactions
  1. He apparently has a condition that forces all of his laughs to sound like evil laughs. There is no proof of this being true but also no proof of it being correct.
  2. One of his horns are missing and it has been replaced by a dagger which has been put into where the horn would be. The dagger has Scroll's symbol on it so it's likely he did this himself after his horn got broken off by something.
  3. Stalks Shuriken and Vine very often.
  4. Has stolen and built upon at least one technique from everyone he's ever lost to. This is impressive because these techniques are not only better but look nearly nothing like the original.
  5. Scroll's Scroll has over 100 techniques and fighting styles.
  6. Is jealous of rich Phighters or people who are more powerful than him.
  7. When defeating a weaker Phighter it is said he'll throw their gear or any other weapons they have to the side and force them to fight hand to hand. In some cases he might just break their gear permanently and then fight them.
  8. Scroll makes an effort to only ever be seen at night or in the dark if the former isn't an option.
Role: Melee
Gear: Scroll of Sevenless
Faction: Thieves Den
Gender: Male
HP:100
Armor:25
Weapon: The scroll in one hand and his martial arts skill in the other. The scroll has fire particles on it that enlarge as Scroll either channels one of his techniques or just attacks period.
Passive // Topple
An enemy has a second bar above their health called Topple. This will fill up from enemies being hit by you and will start to rapidly decrease when not attacking. When it's full all of your attacks will interrupt any ability or primary attack with slight knockback. Leaving your opponent stunned from every strike. While near an enemy who has been Toppled you can press shift to turn into a log and do an invincible dash in the direction you're moving. As you move you leave behind a mass of smoke and shurikens that have a hitbox and do small damage. The dash has extra stun time when hitting directly but has a narrow hitbox. When Topple is full it will deplete after 60 seconds and it increases at an amount equal to how much damage scroll does. The Topple gauge's maximum is 60
Primary // Dark Arts Deadly Arts
Punch and kick with low damage while summoning shurikens from the scroll. This combo has multiple backdashes that immediatelly follow up with forward lunges. Letting you switch between engaging and disengaging. Backdashes fire Shurikens that do extra shield damage. If you wait a little after a backdash you can chain it into another one. Up to 3 can be performed which can be interrupted by attacking between them. The third one has Scroll fire a large beam of explosive fire from his Scroll with more range and more damage.
Secondary // Malicious Mystic Mirage
Lunge forward with a strong elbow before charging up a slow, downward kick with multiple afterimages behind it. You can turn to aim this move around you and hitting someone with it instantly Topples them and attacks with 3 more afterimage attacks that will increase Topple of other enemies hit by it. Even more than other moves do. Using this move near a Toppled enemy freezes them in place so they can't dodge and instead of the follow ups it plants them into the floor and resets their Topple to 0%. Enemies are invincible while in the floor and will go back to normal after 3 seconds.
Q // Vulture Crane Drop
Teleport into the air and fall with a diagonal kick where you summon a kunai onto your foot. Stabbing whoever you land on. This knocks back a little once you hit the ground and sticks the kunai into the opponent with a rope attached to it. The rope will damage and significantly slow enemies who try to get further away from you. With the rope attached you are temporarily able to use your dash. The tether will break if your opponent's Topple gauge gets below half. If it's already below half when the ability is used it will break when you're hit. Scroll will be stunned for a few seconds when it breaks. When near an opponent with Topple the move turns into an upward kick that knocks the enemy behind you and still tethers them.
E // Strongest Move
Walk forward a bit before throwing a sucker punch. This is a fast that actually decreases the Topple gauge but stuns the opponent and plants a bomb on them that will last for a few seconds and will detonate when Topple is full. The detonation is a pillar of explosive fire that can damage enemies from above or below.
F // Become The Demon
Summon a snake to bite an enemy and inject venom into them. Making them hallucinate a broken down Dojo. Scroll and the person hit while in this hallucination cannot be affected by any enemy or teammate interference. The conquer point is visible here however if the Phinisher was casted with it nearby. The following things will apply when this Phinisher is active
  1. The opponent will have their gear kicked out of their grasp and be given Scroll's moveset minus the shurikens and fire blast being added to backdashes, Mystic Mirage instantly giving full Topple (It only gives half now and is a little slower), and Strongest Move is turned into a more disciplined punch instead of a sucker punch visually with no other changes.
  2. Scroll also has every one of the above nerfs to his abilities.
  3. The opponent is given the same health and shield as Scroll
  4. Scroll is given a Topple gauge that the enemy can increase just like Scroll can do to them.
  5. Amount of Topple gained from being attacked is doubled
  6. Having the Topple gauge filled will instantly kill you.
  7. There will be a 3 second timer when this Phinisher is used where neither player can attack eachother and Scroll injects himself with snake venom during these 3 seconds. The battle is on a 37 second time limit and both players will die if the timer runs out
  8. Whoever wins has their health and shield restored.

2024.06.09 20:52 DoWotISay Got any life hacks, products or procedures/surgeries to get rid of Dark circles?

2024.06.09 20:52 AintSleptInWeeks1 Stomach/abdominal pain for 36 hours

32, male; 150 lbs; 36 hours; chiari malformation, anxiety; multivitamin
Hello. I've been on keto diet for the last six months. I am down 40 lbs from it. My dad has been pressuring me to get off of it, as he claims he has a client who developed an autoimmune disease from "losing 40 lbs on keto." I kind of rolled my eyes at this, but hearing concern from my father always makes me extra cautious for some reason, no matter how unsubstantiated it is.
I cheated on keto hard on Friday (ice cream, cookies, etc, lol). It was stupid of me. I woke up with a pounding pain in my abdomen and a sharp pain to the left of my bellybutton. The sharp pain has been moving downward and dulling since then, and I would say that I am in about 1/3 of the pain I was in yesterday at this time. No huge BMs since, so I'm assuming a little bit of constipation.
I read some studies about how cheating on keto is potentially dangerous to blood vessels. Did not do this and, to my father's credit, I am not taking this diet quite as lightly anymore and plan to get off of it soon. I'm right at the 40 lbs mark in terms of weight loss, so this is sort of flaring my anxiety. When do I begin to worry about this pain?

2024.06.09 20:50 Expensive-Bite-9547 Employer accusing me of lying about jury duty and intimidating me

Been working here for 4 years. Small, privately owned business in MA, USA. My boss doesnā€™t like me. Iā€™m weird, neurodivergent, and can sometimes be annoying. Sheā€™s miserable, mean, and unapproachable. We have had an uncomfortable relationship from the beginning. Iā€™m on delinquency status because I forgot about jury duty back in September. I got my delinquency notice back in April and rescheduled jury duty for Monday, May 20th. I notified my boss on Wednesday, May 8th. At that time, I also put in for Monday, June 10th off for some doctorā€™s appointments. She was verbally notified, she approved these dates, and I put the dates in the company calendar. The first jury duty date came and was dismissed. So I took that day off. Didnā€™t say anything to the boss.
Because of my delinquency status, I am not off the hook. A dismissal does not excuse me of my status. So I had to pick a date to come back again. I picked Monday, June 10th because I had already taken it off for my dentist appointment. I didnā€™t notify my boss because Iā€™d already had the day off for my dentist appointment, and with how uncomfortable our relationship is, I didnā€™t think it was necessary. This past week, I reminded my boss of my upcoming day off. She says, ā€œoh shit!ā€ and asked if any of my other coworkers could cover for me, and if no one was available, she would have to change some things around. I asked all of coworkers. No one was available. I honestly was too afraid to say something about it to her in person on Friday. Sheā€™s very aggressive, I know I need to grow a backbone and she takes advantage of it when we are working alone together, as we were on Friday. I can barely speak with her without stuttering these days because she treats me like a total idiot. But Iā€™m glad I didnā€™t say anything in person because I have her poor behavior in texts now. I texted her first thing Saturday morning, profusely apologizing and saying that I cannot come in Monday.
Me: Good morning (boss), (coworkers) got back to me and neither of them are available Monday. I'm really sorry to inconvenience you, but I can't reschedule this. I'll come into work as soon as I'm able. I'm sorry again for the misunderstanding.
Boss: No (me). I can't. It's not an option. You will have to reschedule.
Me: (Boss), unfortunately I am not able to reschedule. It's jury duty again, and l legally have to attend. I am sorry for the confusion, and will get a copy of my subpoena. The dental appointment I had originally put on the calendar had to be changed, and I apologize for not being clear about that. I also have a copy of those changes due to my jury duty issues. I wish I had clarified what was going on with my schedule and I am so sorry.
Boss: This all sounds like you are being dishonest to me. Unfortunately (me), if you don't show up for work tomorrow at your regular time I will be forced to make some changes.
Me: I know you don't think I'm being truthful. I don't have the option to not show up to court. I have all of the documents that clarify what happened after l'd failed to show up to my jury duty back in September, resulting in the subsequent mandatory appearances, and other appointments needing to be rearranged. I am not proud of any of this but I am legally bound to appear.
No answer from her until this morning, asking if I can come in on Tuesday instead. Tuesdays have been my day off for years because of my appointments. I had a few doctorā€™s appointments, but said yes out of fear of being penalized. Iā€™m cancelling appointments on Tuesday that Iā€™ve been waiting MONTHS for so I can hopefully not lose my job. Am I in the wrong? Is she allowed to punish me for this? We donā€™t have HR and I donā€™t feel safe talking about this with my coworkers about this. I appreciate any advice at all.

2024.06.09 20:47 Gardylooo Looked at a Touring, Bought an Elite After Test Driving Both

I got an Elite last weekend and am really enjoying it so far. For background, I've reserved and test-driven many EVs; and canceled orders on all of them after the test drive. For me, this is the one I finally liked. It reminds me of a balanced mix between the Cadillac Lyriq and my Subaru Outback. Refined practicality.
The Lyriq is too unreliable unless I'm willing to have an extra backup car, and that's just silly. I finally decided against it because the dealership was sort of jerky, declining to fix minor problems before I even bought it. This seemed to signal bad news for the future.
After I drove the Touring, I liked it, but I really need quicker acceleration due to a new living situation near a busy main road. The dealership had an Elite and it was a few thousand dollars more. Once I got in it, the seats were cushier. I like the increased power, the heated steering wheel, and the folding mirrors. The overall finish felt better. I do wish the Prologue had a frunk, and larger back windows, but I'll adapt.
I was surprised at how much I liked the Heads Up Display on the test drive. I like how the height, brightness, and information can be moved around and adjusted. I expected it to be distracting, but it's really helpful. One big drawback: it's hard to see when wearing sunglasses. At night I dim it.
On top of that, the dealership is nice and they were willing to deal. They discounted it to the point where there was only $2k difference between the Elite and Touring. They gave me the $7500k tax credit at the dealership, with 2.9% financing/ 48 months.
The salesman told me later that there are a LOT of these in California and there are two things going on; 1. Honda wants these on the road as advertising, and 2. the dealers don't want what happened to the EV6 (I think that's the one). It had a big anticipated buildup with excited reviews, so the dealers added a huge ADM. Then the shipments outpaced sales and the dealers were stuck with a huge glut of cars. Honda wants to move them.
As far as advertising, mine is silver (not blue), so not particularly eye catching. When I came out of the grocery store a couple of days ago, It had a small crowd standing around it . Of course I gave them a quick walk around tour before my ice cream melted :D.

2024.06.09 20:43 MistOpportunitiez A note on public art, with a focus on our Rainbow Road

Art can be meaningful for so many reasons, and the same piece of art can mean different things to different people. An ancient Greek statue can be overpowering--how did they have such vision, and such skill, so long ago? The Rainbow Road has a different appeal--a simple and elegant way to transform urban decay into an interactive reminder of Olympia's spirit.
Public art, be it a beloved mural or a waterfront statue or a guerrilla project, is exposed. It is there for everyone to see, and can be interacted with. The Mark Twain statue in downtown Tumwater is decorated with pink hearts on Valentine's Day, patriotic tassels on July 4th, and other trinkets for other holidays. The Lenin statue in Seattle has been graffiti-ed with Ukraine flag colors and politicized--unsurprising, being a political statue. I know another mural, a favorite of mine in the Wallingford neighborhood from the 1970's, which I slowly watched get taken over by graffiti tags before it was ultimately bleached over with white. Graffiti has its own spectrum of artistic quality, and art on top of art can be a zero sum game. A person could augment existing art, like painting a mustache on a face; they could also fully paint over a piece, replacing older art with their message.
Over the course of many bike rides and drives, watching several art pieces deteriorate, I have come to an understanding that community art only lasts for as long as the community does. Whether it is Bart Simpson sawing the founder's head off of the Springfield statue, or whether it is a bigot replacing a rainbow with a dour black and white message, vandalism is inevitable. The real strength of an art piece is the community's response. Hell, look at the toppling of Confederate statues in the Deep South for an example of the community saying 'No More.'
When old murals get painted over, new murals must emerge. See the new native plants mural downtown as a good example. However, sometimes art never gets replaced, and is lost to time. The wide, sweeping Cascadia mural you used to see driving down 101 near the Olympia mall exit is a good example. Someone realized that wall space made for a good message board which drivers can see; now dozens of Olympians throw their phrase up (be it 'abort the court' or 'fuck the police') and there is no getting the toothpaste back in the tube. If the 300 feet of Douglas fir silhouettes ever return to that wall, they won't last a month before getting papered over with new messages.
The Rainbow Road, on the other hand, has the staying power. You do not need to be Michelangelo to fix it, and by Jove, I think we have a hundred artists who were ready to take up the task. And now that we know it is under fire, I promise those art supplies will be close by in case any more hateful bullshit is attempted on our sanctuary city's hollowed grounds.
Not all art needs to be permanent--Look at Andy Goldworthy's leaf and ice art for good example of the beauty of the temporary. However, art which is a symbol--a symbol of Pride, a nod to our youth, an ode to nature--this will last for as long as this city has passion.

2024.06.09 20:42 jls919 [TOMT] [VHS VIDEO][80s/EARLY 90s] Compilation of Bloopers, Gags, and Pranks

I've spent years trying to figure out the name of a tape I used to rent as a kid in the early 90s. It was a compilation of short scenes that were clearly inspired by shows like Candid Camera, America's Funniest Home Videos, TV's Bloopers & Practical Jokes, and Kids Say the Darndest Things.
It is NOT an entry in the Just Kidding series.
The segments I can remember are:
  1. An E.T. parody where somebody follows a trail of Reese's Pieces through their home, leading them to a closet where they find a strange man wrapped in a blanket.
  2. Bloopers from the filming of a commercial for a local electronics store featuring the store's owner and his young (7-10 year old) son.
  3. Comical interviews with children where they're asked easily misunderstood questions like ā€œDo you think people should be allowed to carry arms?"
  4. A prank where a soft serve ice cream machine is left in the middle of a busy parking lot on a sweltering summer day without any cones or dishes nearby. One man dispenses the ice cream into his baseball cap.
I'm confident that it came in a brick red sleeve with cover art depicting a group of cartoon people, and I'm fairly certain it was part of a series. One of the other videos in the series had similar cover art but on a blue sleeve.
Please help me solve this decades-old mystery!

2024.06.09 20:40 ImportTuner808 People calling things a ā€œhackā€ when itā€™s not really a hack

Iā€™ve been seeing people make reels and shorts lately calling everything hacks, especially when it comes to foods. Like going to Costco and buying Costco cookies and then buying Costco soft serve and smashing them together to make an ice cream sandwich and calling that a ā€œhack.ā€
No, thatā€™s not a hack. A - It hasnā€™t made a task easier and thereā€™s no utility B - Itā€™s more expensive to do that (because you have to buy a whole box of cookies) instead of just buying a Tollhouse premade ice cream cookie sandwich

2024.06.09 20:40 SylisCloud All Of Our Time Was Disrespected Here

I joined a DnD 5e Delvebound game (Its an Elder Scrolls conversion for 5e, pretty neat, would recommend. Plus its free). Now this story isn't as bad as some- (This is a joke, I hate when people underplay their experiences). This was a pretty frustrating game all the way through the 4-5 sessions that it was a thing. This was a few years ago so I can't remember everything and might be a bit out of order. This was during the pandemic so everything was online. The cast:
It wasn't until after the first session did we all realized we all made argonians, so we called ourselves the Scale Squad.
I can't remember if we had a session 0 or not but I feel like even if we did it was a really poor one. There was a lot of miscommunication. All I can remember was character creation, where we didn't even talk to each other about our characters, which led us to not even know we were all argonians. This is also the point where I switched the Point Buy permanently because of this game. We wanted to roll for our stats but we were concerned about balance (this is funny now because that was thrown out the window later with the DM handing out magic items like candy) so I proposed an idea that we could all roll stats then we would vote on which one we wanted and we all had to use. Everyone agreed but Ghost, he had this "won't do this out of principle" mentality. An argument ensues and the DM is nowhere to be found to handle it.
After several hours of him saying "I won't let anyone else determine my stats!" we finally came to a compromise where he just rolled his stats and had to deal with whatever he rolled while we did our voting thing. What follows is just engraved in my mind as the universe responded with karmic justice. He did not roll a single stat over 11. He just does the walk of shame out of the server. I feel like we all dodged a bullet there, even though we got hit with others later on.
So the DM was running an online dnd game... but he didn't have a computer. So we couldn't use roll20 or any VTT and had to use a discord dice bot for rolls. I don't know about other people but to me it was the most tedious process. You have to type in a command to make 1 roll and it is so slow in combat since you have to type different commands for every dice roll you make. I tried to make a sheet I could just copy and paste but it was not any faster. After the first or second session I asked the DM if I could just use physical dice and he agreed. After this point Imperial is getting aggressive with me.
I think Imperial thinks I'm cheating since I switched just from this one time I was asked to make a DC 16 save and I rolled exactly a 16, and then I succeed two more saves after that. This is ignoring the fact I am also rolling nat 1s to hit things. I probably should have talked to him or asked everyone in the group about rolling physical dice.
During all of the sessions the DM was getting on my nerves and I think everyone else's too. It wasn't him personally and not something he had entire control over but the area in his home had so much background noise and stuff happening that we barely got to play. He had dogs constantly barking and forcing him to get up and deal with them, and also just other people wanting him to help them with things while we are in the middle of combat, like every 20 mins or so it was something new. I think we was asked to build a shelf at one point. I don't know if the other people knew he was in the middle of something or just didn't understand or care, but DM dropped everything to go help them. After the third session it was pissing me off with the disrespect for our time, even the DM's time to an extent. No one said anything while he was gone, it was just this awkward silence but you could feel everyone was getting mad. Then the DM comes back and says stuff like "Im so glad I have players that are fine with this". (I know one of us should have said something but the awkwardness was too much to handle).
I can't tell you what the campaign story was, All I remember was we were walking from Skyrim to Hammerfell, then to Cyrodiil. It was just a random assortment of tasks and encounters, really unrememberable. When we stopped at Inns, Maid would spend the night with some of the patrons, the DM would then start to describe what happens and have Maid "roll performance" but Maid and I quickly stepped in and said to just end it at fade to black. Thankfully he listened.
When determining loot the DM had this app with rollable tables of powerful homebrew magic items, we were only level 3 or 4. He used the table like loot boxes, you had to choose if you wanted to roll on a "blessed item" or "demonic item" tables and you get 1 reroll. I rolled a demonic greatsword, something my character doesn't use. Imperial rolled this sort of backpack that had mosquitos that would harvest creature's blood and then heal you. I asked if he wanted to switch items as he used a greatsword and I was already some sort of beastmaster in the group already so I thought it made sense. He gave this aggressive no in the same tone as when he thinks I'm cheating, it was just really awkward as I now had a magic item I didn't want. I wish I spoke with him after to work things out, it felt like things were going to boil over at some point.
It didn't matter anyway as it was now the holidays and people were going on trips so we took a month break and just never did another session, I looked back in the server after 2 months had passed and saw Imperial quietly left the server, I just did the same.
I know I probably did something wrong here but it doesn't feel like a game that could be salvaged. I am now playing the same character in a still on-going campaign that has been going for more than 2 years now, Its not Delvebound so I switched to a Rune Knight Fighter and I am having a blast (If you are on the fence about playing fighter you should try this subclass its so much fun).
TLDR: DM is constantly interrupted by background noise, handing out powerful homebrew magic items. Another player thinks I'm cheating and gets mad.

2024.06.09 20:38 topshotta92 Feeling a sense of peace

For the last 10 months my (27f) (26f) gf has been manipulating and gaslightingā€¦ this break up was due to the fact that we went to her familyā€™s house Friday evening after I just landed from being gone for a week for work .. where might I add every other day she hung up in my face or threw some sorta tantrum.. she has 3 kids I have none I support the kids buy her things even let her ā€œborrowā€ a 1,000$ā€¦ so she decided that on Saturday she would bring up that she didnā€™t like that I brought all the kids (7) of them ice cream at her grandmas house but itā€™s hot outside and I was raised to not just buy one kid something with out the other .. she said this made it look like we have issues in our relationship and I told her I donā€™t understand how buying ice cream could do that ā€¦ she got upset because she said we donā€™t get along and I said great sheā€™s at my house yelling out crazy shit that her kids can hear like oh Iā€™m the prize you need to go look in the mirror youā€™re ugly nobody wants you but me and I realized that this is not a person I should be with ā€¦ this morning she left and threw her jewelry I gave her and the spare key in street in front of my house instead of just leaving it she did all this in front of her kids and itā€™s disgusting she keeps saying youā€™re a Cry baby .. because I know how to identify my emotions and remove my self when something donā€™t feel right ? I woke up with a fever and she didnā€™t even care to ask if I was ok because she dont care if itā€™s not about her itā€™s a tough pill to swallow but I done took it with a glass of Conagc Nd Iā€™m ready to be free So I have blocked her and plan on going no contact forever Iā€™m done being used and undervalued .. any words of encouragement will help and happy Sunday

2024.06.09 20:37 According_Bass_566 Wanting to go to college but never graduated high school

Iā€™m 26m. I live with my folks still, I currently work at a beauty supply store, which I love because it pertains to something I actually enjoy, however I canā€™t be in this weird phase of my life forever. Iā€™ve been running the same circles for over 5 yrs now and we can get into why that is.
Little backstory, grew up one of seven children. All of us were ā€œhomeschooledā€ from kindergarten all the way up. Reason why I put quotation marks is because for the latter half of my high school experience, we kind of just didnā€™t do school. I had many extracurriculars, which my parents saw as part of my education. I appreciate them for that, they encouraged dance and art and music and almost anything me or my siblings wanted to do, but the actual schooling part. Making sure I was where I was supposed to be in relation to public schooled kids, was really thrown by the wayside. I obviously was taught how to read, but I taught myself how to write long hand. I write from bottom to top because I learned by looking at letters and copying them into a notebook. I can do basic enough math, well enough to work a register per say, but my first few retail experiences where horrible because I was never taught to do math quickly. No concept of Algebra, never got that far. Iā€™d say I probably have about a 5th grade math education. And that not even the tip of the iceberg.
In the past when Iā€™ve sought out my GED, it hit me like a brick how much help I really needed. It became very overwhelming very quickly and I couldnā€™t keep up with even a simple Equivalency class. I donā€™t need a refresher, I need someone to help me fill in gaps of education I never even got. Iā€™m talking years worth of schooling that needs to be broken down for me in tiny pieces, sometimes it feels impossible.
This fear of inadequacy, has kept me comfortably stagnant and also crawling out of my skin. I want to pursue further education but I feel I small in comparison to the mountain of work that I wouldnā€™t even know where to start. I know Im smart, I know Iā€™m talented too. I need the structure I never got from my childhood.I want to feel like a part of the world but it just never felt like an option because of the circumstance thatā€™s kept me stuck all this time. And thereā€™s no way to further my education without basic college classes, even most beauty schools have standardized classes and testing. Things like math and language arts and science. Iā€™d be totally and completely fucked.
My question then becomes: are there resources out there to help people like me? Where do I begin, how do I start. Do I need to hire a tutor? Do schools offer programs or accommodations for people like me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I need to start the next phase of my life, but this roadblock has been keeping me cemented here for far too long. Please help!

Book recap & discussion: Izabella St James ā€˜Bunny Tales: Behind Closed Doors at the Playboy Mansionā€™ - Prologue and Chapters 1-3
PROLOGUE
Izabella reflects on meeting a "$20 million-a-movie club" actor at a restaurant who finds her "astounding", he calls her the next day and they talk forever. He's extremely into her until he learns that Izabella lived at the Playboy Mansion, she says he was livid and couldn't be associated with her as her Playboy past would taint his reputation.
She feels defensive about his judgment of her Playboy Mansion past, she was letting go of the steering wheel of life and exploring herself and freedom. She says to understand each other we should know where each other has come from. So here she is to set the record straight and let you be the judge if she really did ruin her life by living as one of Hef's 7 girlfriends.
1: MADE IN POLAND
Izabella was born in Krakow, Poland. She has a handful of paragraphs talking about the beauty of Poland, the spirited and resilient character of Polish people, and she lists notable people of Poland. She writes about how Poland was the most devastated eastern European country of World War II, and is home to some of the most horrific places in the world, including Auschwitz. Her dad was a baby when his family had to flee their home after catching fire during crossfire between Germany and Russia, and he lost his brother later to a landmine. Izabella's grandpa was arrested and sent to Auschwitz for helping Jewish people - he survived but was a ghost of himself.
After WWII, she says Poland fell on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain and became a communist country - this was the setting of her childhood until age 11. She says her dad had a high up, well-paid position at a factory and their family of three had a better life than most people. TVs, cars, clothes etc. were scarce and expensive, but Izabella's family had a car, considered a luxury, and she was spoiled by her parents with lots of toys and a snack bar in her room. She's loved animals all her life and has never wanted to eat meat.
Izabella goes on many vacations with her parents in their car to other eastern European countries, but are put through unbearable screenings when they cross borders. Her dad is pressured by the Communist party to reveal names of anti-communist staff at his factory and his job is threatened. They manage to secure a special visa to visit Greece on a bus, and they plan not to return. They have to leave their possessions and everything behind as to not raise suspicions, so Izabella has to say goodbye to her dog and it breaks her heart. She lives in Greece with her parents for a year and she loves it, she learns to speak Greek. Her parents struggle with making money and starting over, and Izabella appreciates their sacrifices so that she can have more opportunities than communist Poland could offer - she's sure moving into the Playboy Mansion is not an opportunity her parents had in mind, but she's about being receptive and exploring new opportunities with the freedom her parents helped secure for her.
2: CANADA, EH
Izabella's family's immigration request is approved to move to Canada. They are sent to Prince George, British Columbia - a small lumber town in the Rocky Mountains. They all have to learn English, now Izabella's third language. Her parents don't see a future there so they get a van and the three drive across Canada to Toronto, where they've heard of more opportunities. They settle in Kitchener-Waterloo and Izabella starts grade 8 (age 13-14), she says even though she missed grades 5-7 moving around the world she was not behind as the Polish communist curriculum was so advanced. She starts to learn French, her fourth language. She makes friends, dates lots of boys, loses her virginity, and gets straight A's. She can't do frog dissection, and realizes she can't be a doctor, so she decides to enter the "only other traditionally prestigious and respectable profession", and become a lawyer.
She turns down scholarships to other universities and chooses McGill University in Montreal, "widely regarded as the 'Canadian Harvard'". She lives with 2 of her best friends and says they were legends in their neighborhood as 3 tall blonde housemates. She enjoyed experimentation and parties and trips with her friends. She says 'never a shortage of men' for her and her friends, and one guy she dates Keith is head over heels for her but they break up due to school demands for her and pilot training demands for him - they remain close friends. She dates a footballer Ryan from another university but they break up due to distance. She dates a guy named Sean who dotes on her, but hooks up with Ryan secretly whenever they are in the same town - Sean finds out and calls Ryan's new girlfriend and tells her too. Izabella swears off dating for a while after this fiasco.
Izabella is a double major in political science and history. She adds humanistic studies to be a more "well-rounded person" ā€“ studying Spanish, philosophy, classical music, and geography. She dreams of becoming an ambassador, a diplomat, and decides on law specializing in international affairs. She finds out Keith, her pilot ex - died in a plane crash flying his girlfriend on a snowy night. There is a major ice storm of 1998 with 5 days of no power in Montreal, she's had enough of the cold winter weather. Her grandmother passes away in Poland. The deaths of Keith and her grandmother make her consider life, and that there is more out there to experience and enjoy than just studying. She wants a change and to be somewhere warmer. When considering law schools, she weighed reputation and the lifestyle of the area equally - and applies to 2 schools in California. Pepperdine University in Malibu is the first to accept her application, her parents co-sign for her student loans, and she makes the move.
3: LEGALLY BLONDE
Izabella says her first year of studying at law school is a mix of satisfaction and disappointment. Sheā€™s not dated since the Ryan-Sean drama, but starts to notice a tattooed tall guy at Pepperdine ā€œonly in LA can you find a hot tattooed guy who is presumably intelligentā€. The guy manages to introduce himself to Izabella after a few sightings, his name is Justin and they fall in love. This other girl wants to date Justin, and one night after Izabella drives home from a bar where that girl saw Izabella with Justin - she smells burning rubber and discovers someone ripped off her carsā€™ windshield wipers and stuffed them in the exhaust pipe. She believes it to be that girl but canā€™t prove it so lets it go.
Izabella says there is not a large international law market in LA, so she connects with someone in entertainment law who works for Playboy for an interview. It goes well but she decides to go study law in Spain over the summer where she can also work on her Spanish skills. She applies for another school loan and is off to study in Madrid for 2 months capped off with a 2-week vacation in Italy, Justin joins her and they have a great time but are ā€œready to kill each otherā€ by the end of the trip. She returns to Pepperdine for her second year, she stays on top of her studies but also hits the Malibu beaches and hottest clubs in Hollywood all the time. She only makes 2 friends in law school as she says everyone is competitive, thinks they are the smartest, and if you are attractive as well as smart people will resent you.
Izabella is out with one of her two hot-confident-smart-but-also-has-personality friends from university, Vivian, one night, when they go to the same restaurant as Hugh Hefner. It was the year 2000, and in 1.5 years time Izabella will be part of Hef's ā€˜party posseā€™ ā€“ but at the time of this first sighting she would never believe that was in her future. Hef is sitting with Buffy Tyler, Katie Lohmann, and Doctor ā€œFeelgoodā€ Mark Saginor. Izabella says she sees a lot of girls going to introduce themselves to Hef and she thinks it is embarrassing, but Vivian wants to go say hi so Izabella reluctantly goes with her. They are invited to join the table, Izabella is fascinated by Buffy and Katie and wonders what their life and setup with Hef is like. Mark Saginor takes Izabella and Vivianā€™s numbers and invites them ā€˜Fun in the Sunā€™ on Sunday.
Izabella is nervously excited to visit the Playboy mansion. She says her ex, Sean, always said she should be a Playmate, and at McGill guys called her ā€œPam Andersonā€™s little sisterā€ ā€“ not that she looked like Pamela Anderson at all, just because Pam was huge in Canada and ā€œany girl with blonde hair and boobs was always compared to herā€. At ā€˜Fun in the Sunā€™, it is not as wild as she had imagined. She says hi to Buffy Tyler who she finds cool and friendly. Izabella asks if she lives at the mansion and Buffy says she shares a room with Katie Lohmann and that itā€™s a lot of fun. Later on, Izabella notices one of Hefā€™s girlfriends ā€œsurrounded by a group of wanna-be Girlfriendsā€, the girlfriend comes over to Izabella and tells her she is pretty ā€“ Izabella says this girlfriend will later be her roommate at the mansion and partner in adventure. (Most likely Tiffany Holliday).
Izabella and Vivian are invited to mansion parties and attend many together ā€“ Vivian says they should call and ask to be invited back to Fun in the Sun, Izabella does not tell Vivian that she has been receiving invites to Fun in the Sun all along. Izabella doesnā€™t go to the Sunday ā€˜FITSā€™ as to not upset Justin, and she is fine with just going to big mansion parties. Izabella is working for a professor helping with a book on international business transactions, but she realizes she would have to move East where there is a broader international law curriculum to continue her studies as planned.
By the end of her second year at Pepperdine, Izabella and Justin take a break as he will be studying for the bar this summer and Izabella is ready to travel again. She gets another school loan to study at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland ā€“ ā€œone of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europeā€. She studies in cafes, visits the underground salt city Royal Salt Mine at Wieliczka, and has a deeply memorable and heart-breaking trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camps where her grandfather had been sent. Justin calls her over the summer and itā€™s nice, but she decides she is not ready to jump back into their relationship.
She returns to her last semester in LA and is excited to resume attending mansion parties, and Fun in the Sun again now that she doesnā€™t have to worry about upsetting a boyfriend. Justin remains close and she draws comfort from that. Attending the parties at the mansion is her only plans in regards to Hef. ā€œI never imagined what the future would bringā€.
