Celiac disease (gluten intolerance)

Its causes
This autoimmune disease specifically linked to gluten (notably gliadin ) occurs in a genetically predisposed area . We also talk about gluten intolerance.

Its symptoms

Celiac disease can begin at any age, including in the elderly (20% of people affected are over 60 years old) and affects women more frequently than men.
The diagnostic assessment is less and less often carried out (less than 20% of cases) in the face of classic manifestations: weight loss, bloating, diarrhea, deficiencies, etc. It is most often carried out in the face of non-specific digestive symptoms, symptoms extra digestive (sterility, alopecia, early or severe osteoporosis, recurrent mouth ulcers), or even biological abnormalities (iron deficiency anemia, liver problems, etc.).

The treatment

Strict exclusion of gluten (wheat, spelled, wheat, kamut, rye, barley) for life.
Oatsare tolerated if they are certified gluten-free .

Different proteins contained in wheat can cause an allergy: albumins, globulins and gliadins and glutenins (gluten proteins).

In infants, it can manifest in a chronic form, such as enteropathy, with symptoms similar to those of celiac disease: weight loss, abdominal pain, bloating. ..
In children, various symptoms occur within 2 to 4 hours after ingestion, often within the first year of life. They are similar to those of a classic food allergy : burning and itching in the mouth, rhinoconjunctivitis, eczema, skin rashes, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and even in severe forms anaphylactic shock.
In adolescents and adults, wheat allergy generally takes a particular form which results in symptoms which only appear when the ingestion of wheat is associated with rather intense physical effort, or after taking alcohol or anti-inflammatories. They are varied: digestive disorders, generalized urticaria, difficulty breathing, even anaphylactic shock.
The treatmentThe treatment
In children: elimination of wheat, rye, barley and oats. After the age of 16, 96% of adolescents become tolerant and recover.
In the case of exercise-related allergy: no consumption of wheat in the 4 to 5 hours before or after significant physical exercise.

It has no clearly defined basis at the moment. The following are implicated: gluten, ATIs (amylase/trypsin inhibitors) and fructans (which are fermentable carbohydrates falling into the category of FODMAPs.
The diagnosis is only made after elimination of wheat allergy and celiac disease.

Sensitivity to wheat combines:

• digestive signs :abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating, etc.,
• extradigestive signs :significant fatigue, particularly after a meal, joint and sometimes muscle pain, skin rash (eczema, etc.).

The treatmentThe treatment
After the elimination of celiac disease and wheat allergy (essential condition), start with a strict gluten-free diet (wheat, rye, barley, oats) for 6 weeks, to confirm the diagnosis in case of disappearance of symptoms.
Then, reintroduction, starting with foods containing traces of gluten and, depending on tolerance, with very gradually increasing quantities, each person having to find their tolerance threshold.

I’ve been getting a Brozilian wax every month for a year now and it’s been great. I love how it looks, and contrary to what most guys say, it doesn’t hurt that bad. I’m half asleep during most of it.
I recently moved and had a three month period where I didn’t get waxed. I trimmed my hair down there but for the most part it grew out, but never over an inch in length at the longest. Earlier this week I finally booked an appointment to get waxed by a new waxer. This was by far the most painful waxing I’ve ever had to deal with and I want to know if there was something I could do to avoid this in the future.
I got recommended this waxer by a waxer at a different salon. I booked an appointment and when I finally arrived for it that’s when the first minor red flag went off. This person didn’t have their own studio like they claimed online. They had a small utility closet sized room with poor lighting inside of a hair salon that someone else owned. At first I didn’t think much of it, small business owners need to start somewhere, I just thought it was odd that the room was so dark, and just expected her to miss a lot of hair in the end.
Everything got worse once she actually got started. She used almost no talc powder or oil to help protect the skin. Most of the passes she did with the wax were large, like she was trying to get the job done in as few passes as possible. The biggest issue was that she didn’t seem to know how to rip the wax off. I’m used to the person putting the hot wax down, letting it harden briefly, applying tension to the skin and ripping the wax strip off in the opposite direction of the tension. This person would do a large strip of what felt like cold wax, wait too long for it to harden, and when it came time to rip it off, she would just yank it straight up. The first wax strip she did took five tries for her to get it off, and most of the wax was pulling on my skin and not the hair. That’s how the whole appointment went, with her having to try multiple times of each piece of wax. Then at the end she used a rough towel to remove any left over bits of wax that she didn’t get up. When it was time to do my butt, she only did the inner cheeks (I’m used to getting the whole thing done), and she did all of it in two giant passes. It felt like she was trying to pull my ass crack off of me.
This experience was terrible, and I am currently looking for someplace else to get waxed at. What can I look for or ask about to let me know that the people working there know what they are doing?

To start, my 4 year old cat has been to the vet MANY times for this issue. And I apologize for the long post. I hope someone reads it and can offer some advice if anyone has been in a similar spot.
He has had diarrhea ever since I got him a few months ago. At his first vet visit, his fecal sample tested positive for coccidia. That cleared up pretty quickly with treatment (ie, tested negative after the meds). But once the med course was over, his poop was more runny than ever and the bloody mucus was still there.
He has now been on powdered Tylan for a few months and that has eliminated the blood. He was also switched to hydrolyzed protein which has definitely made the diarrhea better - it is no longer straight up liquid but is still not solid by any means. He still poops a lot of clear mucus.
I’ll also add that he has been on gabopentin essentially since I got him for anxiety/stress. He just recently started on Prozac as well. This is another issue on its own- he no longer has bald patches from severe over grooming but is still quite jumpy when he’s off the gabo (aka when he tricks me into thinking he ate it) in a way that makes me wonder if it is pain that the gabo is masking. But if I were to bring him into the vet for this (again), I don’t know what I’d want them to look at specifically to get to the bottom of this - he has had blood work, fecal tests, skin tests, urine tests, an X- ray and plenty of physical exams in which they said he is physically fine (aside from the diarrhea issue) but likely stressed.
There is also another odd thing that the vet hasn’t been able to give me a clear answer for- he has always dropped little tiny “rabbit poops” (don’t know what else to call them) in places he was sitting or playing or kneading or what have you. On and off severity and size. He is not physically pooping these times, they just appear I guess?? Other than this, he has never had an “accident” outside of the litter box. I have noticed his anus seems to look a little longe oval shaped compared to other cats - he used to have bleeding there but not anymore.
He seems fine, always playful, curious and hungry, sometimes sleeps a lot but I figure it could be the gabo. So is it even an issue worth chasing again? Is it possible to be a normal healthy cat with long term diarrhea (/IBD, I’m assuming)? He drinks water all the time so I’m not worried ab dehydration from the diarrhea. I saw some comments on another Reddit post saying they fixed this on their own with different diets, I would be really nervous to take him off his strict HP diet.

Reduced hearing in one ear, is it just ear wax or something else?
About a week ago I started waking up each morning with like, reduced hearing in my right ear. Like if my left ear is on the pillow and my right ear exposed to the air, I can't hear the TV playing downstairs but if I have my right ear on the pillow and left ear exposed, I can hear the TV downstairs. I've been using an ear wax peroxide and water flushing bulb each morning which helps and then I can hear a little bit better with the right ear, but it's still not as loud as hearing with my left ear. It's better enough to let me function and hear stuff, but it just doesn't feel like it's at 100%
There's no pain and there's no ringing. It doesn't seem like there's any fluids coming out of my ear
It sorta feels like I have to always pop my right ear but it never fully "pops" if that makes sense. My left ear is fine
Usually this comes and goes after a week or so a couple times a year so I never paid it much mind, but it seems more stubborn this time.
If I have to see a doctor about this and have them at least look at my ear and flush it out, how do I like, actually do that? I havent been to a doctor since I was a teenager and I don't "have" a doctor to just like go to.
And additionally, because the American healthcare system is a healthcare system of all time, how much money will I have to have for the inevitable bill as an estimate? Money's really tight and I already have to save for my wisdom teeth removal in July which is still several hundred dollars after dental insurance, so an expensive bill for what turns out to just be flushing my ear out would hurt a lot.
I guess on the other side, what if it's something more serious?
For other information, it also seems like this ear has some "flakes" or like really dry skin behind the ear lobe against my head, while the left ear doesn't have that. Idk if that's important or not.

I feel like I should meditate before writing this....
I audiobook GEOD before I sleep each night. I was listening to the ritual of 'Siaynoq', the sharing, the adoration of the GE....and a whole lot struck me about Duncan Idaho (well, that ghola of that time, and all the others before him). He is very much the witness of the scene....witnessing the awesome power of Leto's creation, an utterly fanatical, worshipful, Universe-wide female army of Fishspeakers.....and I realised how integral Duncan Idaho is to this Universe.
I'm not sure I can put this all into words:
Leto continues having a Duncan Idaho in his millennias-long life for so many reasons, some obvious and explicit (his breeding program, companionship, a 'connection to the past')....but, taking Leto's prescience into account there are a few more:
Leto knows that somehow a Duncan Idaho is integral to his own death....but...because all the gholas form a kind of continuum, he can't tell which one will do it......AND HE STILL CONTINUES HAVING THEM PRODUCED BECAUSE BEING KILLED (A SURPRISE!) IS PART OF HIS PLAN!
He still loves his Duncans, every one, delighting every time in encouraging their mind of awakening to what he is trying to do, to bring their minds to the necessity of his predation on a free society and the lesson that predation will teach when it ends through the right Duncan's efforts.
Mindblowing! That Leto knows a Duncan will help kill him is even more incredible when also, as a reader, realising that Leto makes each Duncan, by far, the 2nd most powerful person in the universe every time he brings one into existence.
During the feast of Siaynoq what is happening is Leto is creating a bind between the Fishspeakers and Idaho so that the billions and billions of Fishspeakers renew their loyalty to Duncan even as he pledges loyalty to Emperor Leto. "WE SHARE! WE SHARE!"
Why?
Because....Leto knows that when he dies the Fishspeakers will always have a leader to follow. "Male armies are only answerable to themselves.......but female armies attach to a leader"
and he always makes sure they have two leaders, Himself, who has been there for 3000 years and a Duncan, who in a way is also always there, someone who will always be ready to fully lead them, for them to follow unwaveringly when Leto, as he knows he will, passes on.
The God Emperor's vision is so vast....but by his own admission, not infinite!
As a personal aside recently there was a post about 'who is your favourite Dune character' and I'd like to take this moment to say I most identify with Duncan Idaho (though Leto II is my favourite character, how could he not be?), though I certainly don't connect with him due to any inherent talent with the ladies......
I identify with Idaho because he has been killed and reborn so many times, each time in a state of confusion....so many lives lived....his experience smeared and mixed and, dare I say it, distilled and improved....
I loved in Children of Dune when we see the true power of a mentat's mind through his eyes.....and was so moved when those metal eyes are brought to tears at the loss of his love, Alya, taken by possession. Herbert's use of tears in this water-crucial story is exceptional. When Leto sheds tears of love to Hwi they burn his skin, but he is grateful for the pain, grateful he is still human enough to cry.
We all die many times in life, and are reborn. Where is the child we once were? Where is that person who suffered a trauma and survived it? Where is that old home where we once lived? Who are we? How did we arrive here? What do I do now, not quite ever knowing the answers to those questions?

And it feels amazing!
A year ago I attempted to do my favourite hike i used to do in classic shoes. Sadly had to stop at 17km and ended up with foot pain for a week. So after this fail, I took things more slowly again. Now nearly 3 years of wearing only minimalist shoes and spending loads of time barefoot, I wanted to give it a try again.
A few weeks back I visited England and walked around 15km every day for a week, so I thought I could be ready for this. So yesterday I took my forclaz sandals from decathlon and set off. The terrain goes from asphalt, dirt paths and grass to some steep ascends and more technical and rough terrain with loads of sharp rocks and whatnot. A few times they hit a vulnerable spot but that pain goes away as fast as it arrives.
So in the end I finished the hike with nearly 22km in total (the same as my longest hike in classic shoes). The sandals are a bit rough to bare feet so I did end up getting some soreness on the soles, but that was just from the rubbing on my skin. But other than that and some sore quads, I feel great! Much better than I ever had even in classic shoes. It's a great achievement and I'm already looking forward to going further.

Chapter 3:
Jason hated traveling through The Void; that unknowable space between worlds, the infinite cracks in the fabric of reality, through which divinity traveled the multiverse; the bloody place was hell on his senses. No matter how many times he was sent through it, it always felt like he was somehow falling in three different directions, and a few different dimensions, all at once. The experience had left him puking his guts out on the shoes of more than one noble lord or lady, once he finally materialized onto whatever backwater planet his current mission sent him to. It had gotten better, or at least he had gotten better at holding down his lunch, after the eighth summoning... or was it the tenth? He couldn’t quite remember at the moment.

The lack of direction was hardly the only ‘selling point’ for why The Void was such a pain to deal with. As the name implied, the space between worlds was devoid of anything and everything. He could still vaguely remember the first time he was shunted through the place; he had thought he was blind. The complete lack of light in the place made it basically impossible to tell if you had your eyes open or closed at any given moment. Hell, he still wasn’t 100% if he even HAD eyes while in this place. Heck it was not beyond possibility that the more delicate organs simply didn’t exist while transitioning, only reappearing once the traveler was spat out into the new world.

Worst of all though, had to be the utter lack of ‘stuff’ within The Void. There was something... unsettling, about “falling” through space without the feeling of air, water, dust, ANYTHING touching your skin. Ok well maybe he was being a bit hyperbolic saying “anything”, he could feel the clothes on his body. He had thought maybe it was just his imagination, his mind desperately trying to force some semblance of order onto this strange and order-less place. That thought, however, had been dispelled after... was it the fourth or fifth trip? He wasn’t sure why it took him so long to finally try it, but he had finally gotten around to trying to touch something. To no one's surprise, there was nothing to touch within this place; well, nothing other than himself. His skin, his clothes, his hair; all of it was real, the only real things in this bizarre place.

He claimed that the lack of stimuli was the biggest issue with The Void, but the more he thought about it, the less sure he was that that was really the case. Without stimuli it became increasingly difficult to measure time. Each trip was somehow an eternity that passed in an instant, while also being a moment that stretched out for what felt like an epoch. Part of him assumed it had to be a fairly short period of time spent in this place, the human mind was not exactly known to do well in utter sensory deprivation. But another part of him concluded that he must spend ungodly amounts of time stuck in this perfect darkness. Why else would he always materialize with eyes dilated and skin so pale it was like he hadn’t seen a lick of sunlight for decades?

With an unnatural suddenness, Jason’s attention snapped back to the present. He could suddenly feel air rushing against the back of his head, his clothes flapped and snapped in this abrupt hurricane force gale. Even with his eyelids tightly shut, his eyes sent wave after wave of pain crashing into his brain. Light streamed through his squinted lids. He wasn’t 100%, but experience told him that he was either smack dab in front of a raging inferno... or he had just materialized in such a way as to be staring directly at this world’s star.

...Stars?

After the initial shock of materialization wore off, Jason realized quite quickly that he was in fact falling. A hiccup, made into a proper problem by the fact that he never had gotten around to trying skydiving back on Earth, so he was not really sure how to go about righting himself. He tried spreading out his limbs, having some ambient knowledge that more surface area meant more wind resistance, which meant a (albeit small) decrease in his velocity towards the ground. It had been little more than luck, but his right arm spasmed for a moment and remained locked to his side. The sudden rise of air resistance on only half of his body, caused him to flip over, finally sparing his precious eyes from the harsh sunlight.

Cracking his eyes just the tiniest bit open, the world around him was a smudgy mess. Even with his eyes having managed to adjust to some small degree, it still hurt to have them open. An experience made all the worse by the wind buffeting his face and threatening to dry them out. He closed his eyes and blinked a few times. Fighting through the discomfort, he tried opening his eyes a little more. This time as his eyes opened, the world came into crisp view.

The sky was mostly clear, allowing him to marvel at its breathtaking orange color. A few puffy green clouds dotted the otherwise unmarred horizon. He could make out the faint outline of two small moons, barely visible in the midday light. The third moon was slightly harder to miss; he had seen his fair share of supermoons back on Earth, but they paled in comparison. This Ubermoon as he decided to call it, was clear as can be and took up a good fourth of the sky.

A stray curiosity flickered through his mind about how this world’s oceans must be affected by three moons, and what kind of effects the close proximity of the Ubermoon, would have on the tides. He decided to shelve that particular thought for now, figuring that once he was safely back on Terra Firma he could spend all the time he wished admiring the sky and moons. The ground seemed particularly enamored with him, apparently wanting to get a nice face-to-face greeting, as it rushed to meet him at what he guessed was probably about 200-300 MPH.

A part of Jason had to chuckle at how calm he was. If he had to guess, he had been falling for a good two minutes now. His previous record was a measly two to three seconds before his courage had run dry and he had cast a Slow Fall spell. As the wind continued to whip at his face, Jason decided that he had had his fun. He closed his eyes, he breathed deeply, and extended his senses outwards searching for the telltale signs of magic in this world. Immediately he could feel it in the air, he could sense it spiderwebbed across the planet in great magical Leylines. Magic was heavy upon this world, heavier than he had ever felt before. He mused that with this density of Aether, even the common folk were like as not to be proficient mages. It wouldn’t surprise him if a common farmer in this world had more aptitude for magic than a few of the high mages he’d run into during previous incarnations.

So intoxicated by the power of this world, Jason decided to try casting a spell that had evaded him in many of his past lives. Pulling the raw power into himself he spoke the word, Fly. For the briefest of moments, he felt his descent slow; felt the magical power wash over his body as it tried to fight the forces of gravity. Then he felt the searing agony as this world’s mana flowed through his body. The sudden burst of pain broke his concentration on the spell. As quickly as it started, the feeling passed, his body once more becoming as buoyant as a flesh filled lead balloon. A nearly imperceptible *ding* went off as the spell failed; sadly, Jason could not hear it over the wind screaming past his ears.

He pondered why the spell had started to work, only for him to be consumed with immense pain. Stranger still was that apparently the pain did not translate to actual damage taken. It had felt like his hands were about to burn away, but according to the logs he had taken a whooping 0 damage, fire or otherwise. “Another thing to explore once I’m safely on the ground”, he thought to himself.

Seeing as how the spell had started to work, Jason deduced that he must have just used the wrong word of power. This was not entirely surprising; he was still using the language settings from his last mission... maybe this world used different terms? He thought he remembered something similar to this happening to him way back when, if he remembered right, he thought it was referred to as ‘mana burn’. Given the limited amount of time he had for trial and error, he decided to simply cut out the middleman and use Primal. Sure, saying anything, much less casting anything, using the elder tongue took far longer, but it did have the appeal of being a universal language... Real shame the Gods hoarded the knowledge of the language's existence.

Hells he had only learned about it by sheer luck. Having caught the tail end of a conversation between two Divines, after he had mysteriously dropped dead during one of his missions. Then he had had to game the system for several incarnations to squirrel away enough credits, to buy the upgrade that let him translate and speak the blasted thing.

“Grg’Thun dilock aragos nevadool IMPERITOS. Eloom daruso igora myrousnar barumbarae“, he chanted. Again, his body felt lighter than air, and again just as fast as it started his body was racked with a searing pain. Another almost silent chirp, this one just ever so slightly louder, sounded as the spell fizzled out. Once more Jason failed to notice the background noise over the gale force howling in his ears.

Gritting his teeth through the pain, he tried to understand what was happening. He noticed that his hands were covered in blisters as if he had just grabbed a red-hot coal directly out of a firepit. He checked his stats and found everything in proper order. He still had the Divine Protections, and his life bar didn’t show a single point of fire damage, so what the hell was going on?

The spell had been perfect, but for whatever reason Jason knew that it simply hadn't had enough power to activate properly. A sickening thought flashed through his head. Yes, it was possible... the world was flush with mana, but that mana was crude; unrefined. Was it possible that since this world was so rich in crude ambient Aether, that casters had to actively purify and distill their mana before it could be used? The first hints of fear started to creep into the corners of Jason’s mind. He snuck a peak at the ground, and immediately wished he hadn’t. He could already make out the rough outlines of some kind of merchant caravan traveling between the massive trees. He knew that he didn’t have time to distill the necessary mana to try and cast the Fly spell again.

Thinking quickly, he decided that the only safe option was to use a simple Slow Fall spell. It wasn’t glorious, and the abrupt change in descent speed would feel like shit, and make him look worse upon landing, but at least there didn’t look to be too many witnesses around to see him land like a goober. Taking another deep breath, he pulled in as much ambient mana as he could from his surroundings. Working as fast as his body could, he purified and distilled the mana down. He could feel the immense power of it, as bolts of magic coursed across his skin.

He could feel that mana straining against him, singeding off the hair along his arms. He tried to ignore the pain, he just needed to last a little longer, but the process BURNED. According to every system based data point he had access to, Jason was 10,000% fine. According to what his body was telling him, his blood had been replaced with magma.

Once more he spoke the word of power. He channeled every ounce of the pure mana into the spell, willing the arcane words into existence with all his might. Mana flew from his skin, infusing the script with more power than it had any right to be able to handle. Pale blue lights began to swirl around his body, he could feel the effects of the magic taking hold. He could feel his body becoming lighter and lighter. As joy flooded his heart, he heard it. A high-pitched whine, that was getting louder and louder.

Then with a sickening *snap* he saw his spell shatter apart. The excess mana, having finally strained the arcane construct to its breaking point. As if in some twisted mockery, the spell folded back in on itself. The surge of magic rewriting and reforging the spell into something new. He felt his body return back to its normal weight, then increase. Heavier and heavier he became, his weight increasing quintuple fold. In addition to the added weight came added speed, he rocketed towards the ground, faster and faster. He didn’t even have time to curse his luck, before he hit the ground, headfirst.

As his body, gear, items.... basically, everything that was even tangentially “Jason” and/or “Jason” adjacent, were turned to a fine mist. Two separate, yet equally important things happened nearly simultaneously. First, a single, otherwise unassuming, gold coin pulsed a vibrant cerulean before shattering into countless shards. As the energy rippled outwards, time seemed to slow to a nearly imperceptible stop. This first effect was both heavily fortunate and deeply problematic for Jason. As time slowed, the core of what made Jason, Jason, was able to activate a single automated ability, [Ignore Pain]. The ability did its best to bank the entirety of the damage influx, turning the sudden burst of damage into a much more manageable damage over time effect. Sadly, as would be a running theme for Jason in the immediate future, the sheer level of incoming damage tore through the ability's limiters like a cannonball through wet tissue paper.

Hey everyone, when I wrote my first post in this subreddit a week ago, I was in so much pain, mentally and physically. Today, I'm proud to say l've reached 8 days on my NoFap journey. It might not seem like much to some, but for me, it's a huge achievement.
The benefits started showing up as early as the second day. I used to suffer from severe back pain every time I masturbated, to the point where it felt like my spine was going to snap. By day 3, the pain had completely faded away. I feel so much better about my body, my skin, my face and overall my appearance. l've also been able to study for so many hours this week, something I struggled with last semester. NoFap is helping me feel like I'm actively working to become better, and I'm loving it.
Sure, I've had urges, and I still do, but masturbation doesn't feel like an option anymore. The thought of going back to how I was just a week ago terrifies me.
Day 6 was particularly tough. I was stressed and anxious all day, and not allowing myself to masturbate was a challenge. I always masturbated when I was stressed so I didn’t know what to do this time. I had a couple of panic attacks, but I managed to calm myself down with a bath. The next day, I felt much better.
My goal now is to reach 90 days, then a year, and hopefully, recover from this addiction completely.

Hi! I have my consult coming up in about a month but I'm just curious.
I'm 5ft 1 and weight 130lbs. I'm guessing about 20ish lbs of loose skin. I'm getting a tummy tuck, mons lift and implants but, I lost over 150lbs and had been that size for decades. I'm not even sure what would look proportional on me.
Is there like a height to weight to boob ratio? I had big boobs all my life and it was awful back pain but now they are absolutely EMPTY. It's insane!
Gastric sleeve two years ago.

I am one of those people who reliably breaks out after eating dairy. Pre-Accutane it never failed, within a few days of eating dairy products several painful chin or forehead pimples would pop up every time. So over the years I mostly avoided dairy and had ok-ish skin with only very mild acne (also used topicals). When I consistently ate dairy I crossed over into moderate territory.
I finally decided to go on Accutane this year due to the scarring that my mild acne has caused/to prevent any future scars. I’m nearing the 3 month mark of Accutane now and my skin is the clearest it’s been since before puberty. I’m in my 30s. I’ve been enjoying my favourite dairy containing foods consequence free for the past months.
I’m wondering if others with sensitivity to dairy have had similar experiences. And more importantly did this effect persist after stopping Accutane? I would be so happy if so! Lol.

I am 31F and have been dealing with this since at least high school. It’s been a long time.
I get these large red spots, usually marble sized, that are palpable and semi hard. There usually isn’t a head, but they are sometimes poppable with a little squeezing and hold blood and a whiteish pus. If they don’t pop, they will remain a hard lump for several weeks until disappearing and leaving behind a mark. Once they pop, I feel relief and they will scab and heal. They don’t leak or drain.
Most times they leave a purplish scar that lingers for a while. Usually, they are very tender and painful. They happen exclusively in my genital region.
I don’t do sweaty activities or wear restrictive clothing. I bathe regularly and use hibiclens. It doesn’t seem to make a difference. They occur whether I shave with a razor or trimmer or don’t shave at all.
Currently I have a spot that does not have a head or a large lump, but is distinctly swollen and red and is making it incredibly painful to sit and walk because it is directly between my butt cheeks. This might be a typical boil since it isn’t a ball under my skin?
Each time I have attempted to see a dermatologist for this, their appointments are booked out six months in advance and there are no lesions by the time of the appointment (of course).
They happen semi often, maybe a couple of times a month. I may have 1-4 painful lumps at once. It’s difficult to photograph because they typically just look like angry red lumps in my leg creases or butt.
I struggle so much to tell if these are persistently recurring boils, or some kind of acne or cysts or HS or folliculitis or what. I know a doctor will be my best bet on a definite diagnosis, but until I am able to catch an appointment when I happen to have lesions, does this sound like HS is a route I should learn more and ask my doctor about, or does this sound more like something I could manage at home/ OTC?

Sorry this is long, I partially just need to vent, but my recent concern with her is at the bottom.
I am absolutely beside myself with my cat Roxie. She is 12 years old and has been a saint and a lifesaver. I got her from a shelter when she was young, and she has been the best pet I have ever had.
She has always been; sassy but cuddly, playful, and a bit of a one-person cat. She (when she was younger) would never eat wet food/treats or human foods, and she would graze her food bowl. Her weight would be approx 9.5-10lbs (she's a big girl, but her vet was never worried about her weight because she always stayed the same weight with free feeding.
These past 5-6 months has been a roller-coaster with her health. It started when she got out of the house on a rainy December day (we didn't notice she was gone for 3 hours, it is common for her to step away[inside the house] during the evening to take a secluded nap) when she got back, she had some bite marks on the back of her neck (we think a tom tried to mount her, she is spayed)
2 weeks later, she isn't moving from one room in the house; she's not really eating, and I felt a lump in her pouch.... it was hard and a bit bumpy. I took her to the vet, the vet did some x-rays and lab work. Nothing was physically wrong, the vet chalked it up to a false pregnancy. the lump was her mammary gland. at this point, she weighed 8.6 lbs
A few weeks later, we cannot get her to eat, she will not move from the laundry room, and she now weighs 7.9 pounds. I took her back to the vet, and they gave me meds to stimulate her appetite and picked out a new kibble for her to eat and a dewormer; we did all that, and she still wouldn't eat.
In March, I thought that that was it for my cat. She was so lethargic and skinny. she weighed in at 6.5 lbs. The vet and i tried soo many things to get her feeling better. Then, one night, I decided to give it one more go at a different food. She has NEVER eaten wet food before; we have given it before, but it always went to waste because she would lick the juice but never actually eat it. I went and got a fancy feast with gravy.. and... she ate! and she was eating everything in one sitting. so in order to make her gain her weight back we started feeding her the FF 3x a day, and that brings her to now.
She is almost at her normal weight, but this is where the new issue is that I can't figure out. She is voiding and defecating outside of her litter box. I have tried;
cleaning her box more often (every other day now)
moving her box x3
changing litter brand x2
changed the box to a disabled kitty box (i thought maybe it was too hard to get in the other one)
And now I am trying... locking her in the bathroom with her litter twice a day. And she still doesn't always go in the box (sometimes she does). I just hate having to lock her in.
Of note;
She is on gabapentin
she has a topical foam to put on her skin
her tail twitches like she's itchy or in pain
her urine doesn't really smell like cat pee. it doesn't smell sweet like diabetes either.
if anyone has any ideas or even words of encouragement, I would appreciate it.

Hey there,
I'm reaching out for some advice on a situation that's been weighing on me concerning my daughter's daycare. She's 18 months old and absolutely loves her time there. However, we've been encountering a persistent challenge with another toddler who seems to be struggling with social interactions.
This little guy tends to prefer being independent and often gets overwhelmed when other kids get too close or want to play nearby. His reaction usually involves hitting or biting, which unfortunately has resulted in my daughter getting hurt multiple times. She's had at least 5+ bites, and a couple of them were pretty serious, leaving bruises that lasted a week and nearly broke the skin. As a parent, it's tough to see her go through this.
I can't shake the worry that she might end up getting hurt worse or feeling anxious about going to daycare. Yesterday she was bitten on her back right by her spine, and the bruise was pretty nasty. I can only imagine how much pain she must have been in when it happened.
I understand that these behaviors are typical for toddlers, and most of the kids at the daycare have gone through this phase (including my daughter) and grow out of it. We’ve been very understanding and emphatic towards the situation. However, it's been going on for months with this particular kiddo.
The daycare teacher has been doing her best to address the issue, just like she did with my daughter. However, it seems this little guy is finding it particularly tough to adjust to the daycare setting and social interactions.
I'm really at a loss here. I'm not sure what steps to take next, but I know I'm not comfortable with this continuing to happen. It's hard for me to envision what the daycare could do to address this issue effectively
Any advice or insights, especially from those who may have gone through similar experiences, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Let me start by saying this first, 7 month ago I went cold turkey, it was the same time where I was at my worst, I lost hope in all my doctors. (I also had doctors in my family which I stopped taking advice from)
Well as you can guess that time was the worst time of my life. I was feeling so low I can’t even describe it. On top of my skin flair ups I experienced stomach ulcers with diagnosed IBD, weight loss, depression, fatigue, migraines, intense stomach pain and nerve ending pains like stinging. And yes I did go crazy during that time.
It was hard for me to explain but even though everyone was saying I should continue using steroids to “get my life back” and continue using immunosuppressants there was a voice inside of me that was telling me not to do it. So I didn’t. And that voice helped me all throughout the coming pain and fights reassuring me that I did the right choice.
I was lucky and got into a medical trial of some form of immunosuppressants but I declined it.
I closed myself of to the world (not to my close friends and family of course) and faced MY reality. Because this was my life now! Every day was a fight with inflammation. But with time I got better and better. My approach was and what gave me strength was telling myself that I am connecting with nature again.
I started to take long walks in the forest, I sunbathed a lot ( and am still doing so) I started to only use natural products, I developed a intolerance to any kind of soap or shampoo and am only using natural soaps/conditioners/ ingredients now.
I started using aloe gel which helped me insanely with my skin and moisture, I also developed intolerance to Vaseline my skin was very itchy when I applied it.
I only take showers once a week or a bath with epson salt.
That being said, 7 months ago I decided to risk it all and I am so happy to say it payed of.
My skin is healthy, I have no inflammation. For the first time in my whole life. I can sleep. I’m not in pain. I don’t have stomache ulcers or stomach pains. ( I have been on high potent probiotics for the 7 months) My migraines are gone. I stopped losing weight. For the first time in my life my lymph nodes are not swollen. There also used to be small pumps on my veins which are also gone now for the first time in my life ( this is just my own observation, doctors always ignored this)
1 month ago I started micro immunotherapy and am taking 2LALERG from Labolife, since it’s supposed to help your immune system regulate itself to its natural state and that aligned with my goal. It’s not a medication and has barely if any side effects.( I have no idea if this has helped me in any way just putting this out there) I have always had high IgE which also resulted in the inflammatory states in my body.
Yeah all in all I’m feeling really good. I though I was doomed for life. That things would never get better. But it’s not true. It can get better!
PS: I have been trying very hard to avoid stress in these months as I noticed how big of a impact it has on me and my body

I was born to two young (early 20s), mentally ill people. My mother had untreated bipolar disorder, and my father was an angry, stern asshole. I know my father was physically abused growing up. My mother is a very unreliable narrator, so I'm not sure what happened with her. My maternal grandparents seemed nice and always treated me well. From what I've heard, she was a very troubled teen. Hung out with the wrong crowd, got pregnant at 16, she would go randomly into fits of rage.
They always blamed me for the abuse, saying I was a difficult child. I talked back, and slammed doors. I was strong-headed. It would enrage them. A common scene at my home was that my mother would get upset over some perceived slight, like my bedroom was too messy. My father would come back from work (he was the sole breadwinner, my mom refused to work), would hit me, and go through my room systematically destroying everything in his path. Books, torn to shreds, stuffed animals ripped apart. I would be left to go pick up the pieces in the dumpster, crying.
I never did drugs, slept around, stole... And generally kept good grades, until I was too depressed and suicidal in high school. I just stood up to them and their treatment of me. They hated me talking back. I'd get punched, kicked, slapped, dragged down the stairs by my hair. My father would scream that he would "tame" me until my ears rang.
I was about 15-20lbs overweight as a kid. My mother was obsessed with weight and appearance - "fat cow" was an insult she'd throw around a lot. I grew up in a country and time when being an overweight girl was just about the worst thing you could do. She would discourage physical exercise, her focus was on diet. We'd go on slim fast diets together, which would never work. Later as a teen I'd live on diet coke and the occasional binge eating episode. I used Ipecac to make myself purge. I developed an eating disorder. I never got really skinny though to her great disappointment, as an adult I learned I had a thyroid autoimmune disorder.
My mother cheated on my father a lot, and made me cover up for it. Yet, they blamed me for "ruining" their marriage. They were two high-conflict personalities and would get in very nasty arguments. At 17 I messed up my back really bad, carrying heavy school books to school and back, and school was really far. I ended up in chronic pain for decades afterwards with two herniated discs.
My mother's bipolar disorder would make her a big spender on my father's working class salary. She'd go on wild spending sprees and "spoil" me with makeup or clothing to make up for the physical abuse from my father. Yet, I never saw a dentist in 18 years. I had to get so much dental work done when I got my first job and dental insurance. I always felt guilty and responsible for the abuse - if I had been more respectful, if I had been more tidy, worked harder in school, maybe this wouldn't have happened. They took no responsibility, I was just "out of control" to them. I think the worst thing I ever did was accidentally putting a scratch in the car paint getting my bike out of the garage. Other things, like refusing to wear socks in shoes. Looking back, I probably had sensory issues/autism. Socks would make my skin crawl.
I have a sister who I am also NC with. She didn't endure any abuse. She was born with a minor heart, stable defect, and my mom was really absorbed with it. They would be so careful with her. She was more docile than me. She was given so many chances. She never managed to start her own life, and still lives with my parents to this day, in her mid-thirties, with a part-time job. I don't think she's ever had a romantic relationship or any of the milestones adults usually go through.
I recently reconnected with my godmother after going NC with my parents. My parents would also keep me from other family members, usually over some drama they'd instigate. My godmother told me I was a colicky baby. My mother had psychotic episodes, hearing voices and screams, and postpartum depression after having me. I had to be weaned pretty fast as a result, and dairy formula hurt my tummy. I'd cry for hours. They would shake me and scream in my face.
A baby is just a baby. You can't hold them responsible for being a "difficult" child. A lot of my shame and self-blame evaporated upon learning of this. I'm doing pretty good now. I left home early (honestly thought they would end up killing me, either by hitting me or pushing me to suicide). I got into, then left a toxic marriage, went to therapy, did EMDR, went on SSRIs, put myself through college, bought my own place, and met a wonderful partner who is the best man I know. I just sometimes ache for what could have been, and for the fact it took me two decades of struggling to get there. I could have gone so much further in life with the proper support, but I was chronically burned out.
I got a lot of plastic surgery to not physically look like my mother and because I was pretty homely. I was bullied a lot over my looks. I had wild swings in weight too, which wrecked my body early. I realize that's crazy, but I'm happy I did it. I stopped at a reasonable point, and am happy with the improved quality of life it brought me.
Anyway, just getting this off my chest. I made it, but at what cost.

Have you ever experienced something that shook you to your very core? Something that makes you remember every single little detail of your surroundings from that moment in time? Even years after? I can remember so vividly the moment I realized something was wrong with me. I was in my junior year of high school sitting in class, just like any other day. I remember the smell of erasers and cheap cologne that permeated off my classmate who sat next to me. I remember the scratchy tag on my t-shirt and how I was resisting taking it off in the middle of class just to cut it off. I remember what my teacher, Mrs. Brown, was talking about; 'the fall of Constantinople'. My mouth felt dry and I kept looking at the clock, counting down the minutes until I had lunch so I could get a soda. The sound of a pen clicking behind me was synchronized with the song that was stuck in my head.
All those things were going through my brain at once. My ADHD mind went a million miles per minute when it all came down to a cashing holt when I felt it at 11:23
I felt what I can only describe as a hand grabbing at the inner lining of my stomach. It didn't necessarily hurt, not at this point. That's not why I got so scared. You see, not only do I have ADHD. I also have OCD that manifests itself in the fear of anything growing or moving inside me. Even if I think about the concept of blood moving in my body or a heart that is beating in my chest, I have to think of something else. I've had full-blown panic attacks because of it. The closest term for this is 'Tokophobia'. That's technically the fear of pregnancy. I'm a guy, so it's not completely accurate but it's really the closest term. I mean, I also do have a huge fear of pregnancy. Not necessarily of me being pregnant, but even though I knew I could never get pregnant, the thought of it still made me feel sick
I bet you can imagine the terror that overcame me as I felt something moving in me. I made an audible groan and grabbed my stomach. My whole class turned to look at me. even my teacher stopped talking to ask if I was okay. I stood up and started to run to the nurses' office without even acknowledging my teacher. My first thought wasn't thinking that something was actually in my body. Even stomach aches and the feeling of gurgling in my stomach made me feel this way before. I didn't have anything on hand to help with a stomach ache, unfortunately. However, the nurse always did.
I sprinted across the school hoping and praying that my stomach wouldn't make that awful feeling again before I got there.
I turned the corner into the nurses' office with my tennis shoes squeaking in the process. I saw the school nurse, Mrs. Kennedy sitting on the couch in her office reading a magazine. She looked up at me with a sweet smile that quickly turned into worry.
"Sam, what is it? How can I help?" She said as she stood up and hurried over to me. Putting her hand over mine which was grabbing my stomach tightly.
"It's…It's my stomach. Something is wrong with it." I mumbled with a red face.
She shuffled her way over to her large medicine cabinet and she motioned for me to sit down.
She asked me questions about my stomach. Asking if it was pain, grumbling, cramps, nausea, etc. As she was asking me what my symptoms were and digging through bottles, The feeling happened again. However, this time was different. It felt like fingers grassing against the inside of my body. I screamed and wrapped my arms around my torso. Mrs. Kenneddy ran over to me to comfort me.
"This seems a lot worse than normal, maybe we should call your parents." She said as she put her hand on my back.
It felt like some days I saw Mrs. Kennedy more than my teachers. Any small ailment would distract me so badly from class that I had to go see her. Sometimes multiple times a day. She knew at this point when something was really wrong.
Within about 30 minutes both my parents were there with us. That may seem fast, but I'm an only child and my parents are very aware of my tendencies. They know I can spiral and like to be around if it happens.
They kept asking me where the pain was. I think they assumed by the way I wasn't responding to their questions the pain must've been really bad. The reality was that I just didn't know how to tell them what was going on.
I got so frustrated after they asked me over and over again that I just yelled at them.
"Something is inside me! Get it out, get it out, get it out!" I lifted my shirt and was ripping at my stomach. Leaving red nail scratches and cuts. My mom and dad ran to either side of me to grab my arms. Mrs. Kennedy had seen me go pretty crazy, but this was the worst I've ever gotten in front of her. My parents however had seen a similar situation before. Not exactly like this, but they didn't skip a beat on trying to help me.
"Sam. Breath, sweety. Just remember everything is in you for a reason. It's keeping you alive. Nothing is going to hurt you." My mom said softly to me. Trying to calm me down with the words my therapist gave her. "Ice cubes, get him ice cubes!" She said to Mrs. Kennedy as I started to hyperventilate.
Mrs. Kennedy grabbed a ziplock bag and started to fill it with ice cubes. My mom went over to her and grabbed an ice cube right out of the bag, opened up my hand, and put the ice cube in it. This worked in the past to distract me, I knew that's what she was doing, and trust me. I wanted it to work too, but this was different. I kept trying to tell myself that it was just a different feeling I hadn't felt before. That it wasn't possible something was physically inside my body. But I couldn't help it.
Everyone in the room could see that this was getting intense. I think they assumed it was just a mental breakdown and that nothing was physically wrong with my body but I didn't care. I just wanted help.
My parents got me into the car with my mom even sitting in the backseat with me. She kept trying to distract me with conversation but my mind was only on that awful feeling in my stomach.
We pulled up to the ER and my mom guided me in while holding both my wrists. It felt like she was walking me on a leash but I didn't fight it. I knew she was just trying to stop me from scratching my stomach.
We walked in and I spoke to the receptionist. All I said was that I had terrible pain in my stomach. I didn't want to sound too crazy. I just needed a doctor to look at whatever was going on.
After giving the receptionist my name and insurance information we went to sit down. I was sitting in between my parents and I could see my mom lean back to try and mouth something to my dad without me seeing. I didn't think much of it. I was way more worried about other things.
My dad then went up to the receptionist. He pointed over to me and she looked a little concerned. I saw her pick up the clipboard that had my information on it and she started writing something else on it. I asked my dad what he did and he just said to not worry and that he wanted to let her know it was urgent.
No more than 10 minutes went by and I felt a terrible moving sensation. I cringed and grabbed my stomach. Immediately followed by not just the feeling of a hand grabbing my insides but also scratching and pinching. I yelled out in pain as the other people in the waiting room looked at me mortified.
A doctor and a couple of nurses came running over to me and helped me up. But I couldn't stand up. I was in too much pain. They put me in a wheelchair and started to head for a room. However, they didn't take me through the normal big ER doors that went to the standard examination rooms, they took me and my parents through a smaller door to the side that had a padlock on it.
We walked through a white hallway that was very quiet. The doctor and nurses showed us to my room and helped me into my bed as I was wiggling and wincing. I had one parent on either side of me. Patiently waited to stop my arms from scratching.
The doctor was trying to ask further questions but he could tell it wasn't going anywhere. I knew that my dad probably told that receptionist about my OCD tendencies and that I needed to go to the psych ward. Not just to the stranded side of the ER.
I couldn't take it anymore and blurted out that something was inside my stomach and it was trying to get out.
The doctor just looked at my parents for a reaction and they gave him a sad nod. It was like they warned him that this could happen. The doctor didn't just think I was crazy, my parents did too. The doctor took a deep breath and came up to me. I knew I was about to hear some kind of dumb speech about how this was just my OCD and everything was going to be okay.
As he came closer to me, I pulled up my shirt and he gasped. Not only was my stomach scratched up like crazy, but we saw movement. It looked like when a pregnant woman can see her baby kicking. But this was so much stronger. It was stretching my skin.
My parents stood up and gasped while the doctor looked frantic and unprepared.
"Shit, shit, shit, shit!" The doctor said as he backed out of the room. "Hang on! We are getting this taken care of, just hang tight."
Just seconds later a nurse came in to give me some painkillers. I started to feel the pain slip away, but something so much worse started to creep in. I heard a voice. Not my own. Not some creepy-sounding creature, but the voice of a normal-sounding man that I'd never heard before. But that wasn't the scary part. The scary part was what he was saying to me.
"Get me out. Get me out. Get me out!"
It started in a normal tone, but slowly became more urgent and rushed. Then demanding.
The voice would coincide with the moment inside me.
It was getting so loud that I was having a hard time hearing the people around me. The doctor came in just a few minutes after I last saw him. He was red and sweaty. Like he'd just run a marathon. He told me they needed to do just a few tests on what was inside me before taking action.
I was trying so hard to pay attention to the words coming out of his mouth but all I could hear was the voice. The voice stopped for just a second and changed what he was saying. Now he started repeating,
"Cut me out, cut me out, cut me out, now!" I now knew this thing didn't just want out but it wanted out now. I begged the doctor to just get it out now but he wouldn't listen. The voice spoke up again.
"This is taking too long. Don't be afraid. Get me out yourself."
I think it could feel me resisting. Without realizing it, I was looking around the room for something. It was like I didn't even have control over my head or eyes anymore. I knew the voice was looking for a knife but I was trying to ignore the feeling. I knew there weren't any knives around. I was in a very safe place.
Just as I had the feeling I was safe, it was immediately taken away. The thought passed through my head that my dad probably had a pocket knife on him. My heart sank. I knew this thing could hear my thoughts. I knew what it would try to do.
The next thing I knew, I was on my feet, leaping for my dad. My body hit his. luckily, he's in pretty good shape for his age and had no problems putting me in my place.
He got on top of me and pinned me to the ground. All while I could barely hear my mom in the background. Yelling at my dad to be careful. My dad knew something was going on and that I just needed to be on the ground until I calmed down.
My body tried to flail but it wasn't successful. The whole time the voice in my head, now yelling and screaming. Not saying any distinguishable words, but just having what felt like a tantrum. What made my dad the most uncomfortable was the kicking feeling coming from my stomach.
After a couple of minutes, the voice calmed down and I felt in charge of my body again. My dad slowly got up and attempted to help me up. At this point with an audience of hospital staff that looked like they were getting ready to take me somewhere for more tests.
Just as I stood up straight, I felt the voice take over and I lost all sense of my own body. I felt like a shell of myself. My dad gave me a soft yet worried smile, and in that instance, I grabbed him and reached into his pocket. My heart sank as I felt his pocket knife. The room started to panic and about 5 people tried to grab it from me. The last thing I remember is plunging the knife into my stomach. I felt a blinding pain and everything went black.
Several hours later I started to wake up. Everything was extremely blurry and fuzzy. I could hear a very faint voice telling me to relax. As the minutes passed by, things started to become a little bit clearer. I looked around and saw I was in a large room with a few other patients. A nurse was going up to all the beds and checking in on them. I tried to sit up a bit to get more comfortable and noticed an incredible sourness in my stomach. I moved my hospital gown out of the way and saw a huge scare. About 6" across. Most of the scare looked very surgical. Like what I'd imagine a c-section surgery would look like. Except where I remembered the knife going in. It looked like a bunch of extra stitches had to be added where it went in. It also looked pretty bruised. I can imagine that a dull 10-year-old knife that was harshly shoved into a body really wouldn't cleanly cut through and leave some damage.
The feeling of shock from looking at my stomach was quickly gone when I realized that meant whatever was in me was now gone. I didn't hear the voice, I didn't feel a hand in my gut anymore, I didn't see that vile kicking anymore. I felt like I could breathe.
I asked the nurse what they found and she looked flush.
"Uh, that's something that you, uh. Your doctor will talk with you once you eat something and can speak clearly." She said as she scurried off looking upset.
Shortly after that, I was wheeled into a recovery room and my parents came to see me.
As they walked in they had a very similar look on their faces as the nurse did. They looked pale and didn't want to look me in the eye. I kept asking them questions about what was going on but they said the doctor needed to discuss it with me and he wanted to make sure I wasn't feeling high from the anesthesia while we had a conversation.
The doctor didn't come and see me for another 10 hours. Which felt strange. And to add to the strangeness, my parents were taking shifts hanging out with me. There was only overlap when they switched and the other parent took over while the other one left the room. I would understand if they weren't both with me for the whole time. I'm not that needy, but they were only both in my room together for about an hour. That was the hour before the doctor came to my room.
Finally, the doctor came in to talk to me. When he walked in, the room was cold and quiet. It was evident he didn't feel the same relief I was feeling.
He seemed awkward. Like he was talking way too long to get over to me. He grabbed a chair and scooted it close to me.
"Listen Sam. I know this last 24 hours has been very challenging. I apologize for not explaining what happened during your surgery sooner, but we all needed time to figure it out, and quite frankly, process what happened. We feel we have enough information to let you in on what is going on." A silence filled the room. It felt like no one was brave enough to break it.
"And?" I said with confusion.
"I think it'll be easier if we just show you."
The doctor along with my parents helped me into a wheelchair and we started to make our way across the hospital to an entirely different section. I couldn't believe all the things running through my head at what we were about to see. It felt like cruel and unusual punishment to leave me in anticipation and not just tell me what I was about to see.
When I went around the corner I couldn't process what I was looking at. I thought they were showing me a large tumor or growth of some kind, but why would a tumor be in a big incubation chamber with tubes connected to IVs and machines coming out of it?
As I got closer, I started to see human fetchers on it. It was mostly just a 6-pound lump of flesh, but I could see a hand sticking out of it. It was small, but what made it creepy was it looked like a fully developed man's hand. Just small. I could see a patch of hair coming out of what I assumed was its head. It had no discernible facial features. Just a few teeth scattered in one section.
As I looked at it with disgust, coming to terms with this thing that was just in my body, I had a realization. I wasn't feeling sick at the thought of something being in my body. Sure, I was grossed out that this particular thing was just in me, but the thought of the bacteria in my body didn't make me want to throw up. I thought about all the blood pumping through my veins and I felt… normal. Not only was the voice and kicking gone. But my OCD was gone too. I didn't have a mental illness. It was just this thing. Trying to find its way out for years.
As I was staring at the creature, the doctor came and put his hand on my shoulder.
"We believe this is your twin brother." I immediately looked up at my parents who looked very disturbed and upset. I let the doctor finish talking. "We believe that you absorbed him in the womb and that he has been living inside you your whole life. This is an extremely rare condition called fetus-in-fetu. It seems he didn't quite have the best opportunity to develop normally. That's why he looks the way he does. Despite his appearance, he has all the organs he needs to survive. Looks like he's missing a lung and his gallbladder. Also a piece of his liver but other than that, it looks like he will live for at least a few years. He won't be able to leave this room due to him needing a feeding tube and a few other things that his body can not do on its own. He needs lots of support just to live. What makes this situation extremely unique is that your twin is still alive despite your body not sustaining him anymore. Even though we have him hooked up to a few IVs and machines, It is unexplainable how he is living while outside of your body."
I was in complete shock. I didn't want to believe it. I asked my mom why she never told me I absorbed my twin in the womb, she said she had no clue. There was never a sign when she was pregnant with me.
He also mentioned that sometimes even in pregnancies women will go their whole pregnancy without even getting a belly. It's called a 'Cryptic pregnancy'. I've always had a bit of a gut but never anything big enough to cause suspicion. I guess in my case I had a fetus-fetu and an experience similar to a cryptic pregnancy. Even though it was in my stomach. At least that was the doctor's best guess. Although, it all sounded like BS to me.
The doctor and my parents kept trying to explain more and more details to me. I don't know why they didn't slow down a little bit for my sake. How could they not tell I wasn't processing any of this?
I noticed something while they were trying to explain things to me. They kept calling it a 'He'.
Now listen. I'm not some kind of asshole that won't respect someone who wants to be called a specific pronoun. I've never been that kind of person. But this is where I draw the line.
Not just that. But this thing had a name. My parents named it and said today was its birthday. While they told me all this information, they didn't look happy about it. It seemed like they were forced to do all this nonsense. And now it was my turn to be convinced. I could tell they were trying to force it.
The doctor told me despite it not having a high probability for a long life that we should still try and give it the love it deserves. Of course, the doctor referred to it as a 'He' but I refused to.
This disgusted me. This thing tried to kill me and ruined my quality of life for so long, and now we are going to treat it like it's some kind of prince? No, absolutely not.
Luckily, it seemed like it would never leave the hospital, but my parents planned on going to visit it daily. Visiting it? Are you kidding me? it has no eyes, no ears, it's probably miserable and has no concept of people even being around it.
I'm refusing to ever see this thing again or acknowledge its existence again.
I could get in trouble for even talking about this. The hospital or anyone involved has signed NDAs to not share any information about this until it officially dies. This is because it's a medical anomaly and the first of its kind. They want to do the proper research on how this all occurred before coming out with a statement. I just have to get this all off my chest. I feel like I'm the crazy one here when I know I'm not. I don't care if I get in trouble.
I am scared that the doctors are trying to force my parents into giving this thing a proper life. I think that's why it took them so long to tell me. I think they scared my parents into keeping it alive and guilting them or even forcing them into being its parent.
I'm all for every life being important and all that stuff, but I have a feeling my parents are terrified of this thing just like I am.
I am convinced they gaslit my parents into believing this thing is my brother. If there wasn't any sign of him while my mom was pregnant with me, could this thing be something else?
This all happened about two years ago. It's still alive and they are still researching it. My parents continue to visit it despite everything. My therapist told me that I'm probably just struggling with jealousy now that I'm not an only child anymore and so much of my parents' attention is on him now, but it's so much bigger than just jealousy.
Since this thing showed up and my OCD is pretty much gone, I've hardly seen my parents. I know I'm not just jealous. There is something more to this. I know it.
Something just feels so off about this whole thing. What is this thing? Where did it come from? And what does it want?

I’m 21F and 5’0” and 105 lbs, and I’m really wondering what’s going on with me. I have a plethora of mental and physical symptoms. My parents never had health insurance (we still don’t) so I never really went to the doctor growing up. I know this isn’t great news, but I have an interview today and am getting insurance ASAP if all goes well.
I’m including mental illnesses in the diagnosis because I’ve heard that sometimes they manifest physically, so I’m just covering my bases.
“Symptoms”:

• constant diarrhea. has been happening for over a year now, and is daily. but i’m not bloated or gassy, i just get some pain and sudden urges to go. no weight gain/loss either.
• blood sugar problems. (we assume.) if i don’t eat every few hours, I start to shut down. I get weak, my head is extra foggy, I start sweating and shivering, and I get super nauseous. This can be anywhere from 2-5 hours after a meal. It usually happens in the day, but it happened in the middle of the night this week and I collapsed on my bedroom floor with my poor husband pressing cold objects to my skin to cool me because i was burning up.
• extreme temperature sensitivity. It goes both ways. If it’s above 75°, my vision blurs and sometimes goes black. I don’t sweat, I just start getting weak and dizzy and disoriented (and angry.) If it’s below 70° inside or below 50° outside, my toes and half of my foot goes completely numb and turns white. (Raynauds). I also just shiver the entire time, even indoors.
• constant fatigue and brain fog.
• no appetite or libido at all. i actually get nauseous at the idea of food, no matter how much i love it.
• air hunger. i’m always yawning and feel out of breath. my friends for years have noticed how fast my breaths are, and my heart.
• coat hanger pain. this one is VERY SPECIFIC, and probably my earliest symptom besides raynauds. sitting or standing, most days i have such severe pain between my shoulders and neck on the left side that i just walk around holding it, massaging it, trying to ease it.

Diagnoses (and suspected/mentioned ones by other people i’ve talked with and researched with, which i’ll label):

• Raynauds
• POTS (suspected)
• IBS-D (suspected)
• Hyperthyroidism (mentioned)
• Hypoglycemia (mentioned)
• Anxiety
• Bipolar Disorder
• Autism (suspected)
• ADHD (suspected)
• OCD (mentioned)

I had blood work done for EVERYTHING in January and all of my levels were somewhere in the middle of the normal range.
I talked to a doctor online 4 times before I left my job and she prescribed me Lexapro and Wellbutrin to try and ease my anxiety (because it may be the cause of my diarrhea). The medications did not work for me at all, they had absolutely no affect on anything.
