2024.05.16 07:54 Master-Guarantee-204 Months of tests revealed stress is wrecking my health. Suddenly my health anxiety is gone?

TLDR: a bunch of medical tests were bad, a dietician explained how stress affects the gut in a way that clicked. Now my subconscious impulse to eat, sleep, and workout perfectly has flipped to make me relax instantly. I’m not doing anything on purpose, the anxiety is just gone.
I’ve been getting tests done for about a year. I’m prediabetic, have hypertension, high cholesterol, high wbc count, digestive issues, migraines out of nowhere, recurring sinus issues, and a cough that lasted months, possibly asthmatic suddenly.
Blood tests, stool samples, lung function tests, ekgs. Everything was suspiciously bad. I’ve been meticulous with my diet and exercise for like 15 years and I’m only 32, none of this made sense.
Finally saw a dietician I was referred to for the gut issues. She explained exactly what happens to the gut when stress is high, and it’s exactly what I’ve been dealing with. Turns out, stress can also mess up your bloodwork. It’s like I finally saw the damage stress was doing to my body.
Now it’s like my subconscious response to anxiety is to immediately chill out. The same subconscious impulse that had me checking ingredients of foods I eat to make sure it was all healthy was now just focused on keeping stress low.
Bad food, sleep, and skipped work outs were no longer the enemy, it’s just stress.
It’s been a few months since then, ive somehow kept my stress levels at zero. Even in panic inducing situations, the panic symptoms flare up and are immediately met with a relaxation response. I’m like always one deep breath away from baseline.
All of my issues are gone. My bloodwork has returned to normal. Blood sugar, cholesterol, lung function, ekg follow ups. ALL NORMAL.
I was on 2 daily inhalers and they were considering blood pressure meds.
Lung function is excellent. Fasting blood sugar dropped from 110 to 80. WBC returned to normal. Bowel movements normalized. BP was always 150/90, now is 120/75.
All this worrying about symptoms being serious created serious issues. I’m actually shocked by this, it’s changed my entire view of mind/body and western medicine.

2024.05.16 05:19 EggManEatsEggs Ingredients Debate

Hello my fellow chipotle lovers, friends and I have gotten into a heated discussion on chipotle as a healthy meal choice.
They are suggesting that “since 2014ish or earlier” they have been using unfresh, sugar-and preserve-added meat and other ingredients.
My argument is that it’s a good way to get simple unprocessed macros, but to my understanding the food is relatively fresh and not just reheated microwave food.
I don’t know how willing current or recent employees are to discuss this but I’m curious what your guys though and experiences have been.

2024.05.16 04:31 Disastrous-Low-2108 Hunger Hack - “Faking” Fasting to Sleep Better

I stopped intermittent fasting for a while because I was getting so hungry at night. While I don’t believe in starving myself, I do want to reap the benefits of fasting.
So, I decided to experiment with taking some olive oil 30 minutes before bed, because I had heard some folks talk about how a shot of olive oil before bed helps them sleep better.
This has been great support for my hunger throughout the night and improves my sleep. I only use half a tablespoon of olive oil, though.
The consumption of half a tablespoon of olive oil (approximately 60-70 calories) does not significantly impact insulin levels and provides healthy fats, which can support the production of ketones.
The polyphenols in EVOO have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which seems to improve sleep quality. Reduced inflammation and oxidative stress promote better rest and recovery during sleep.
Oelic acid supports heart health and stabilize blood sugar levels, leading to more consistent and restful sleep.
Me being satiated before bed greatly helps me sleep while fasting. Melatonin is also fat soluble, so the 300mcg er tablet I take 30 mins before bed with the olive oil seems to be more effective, I fall asleep within 15 minutes rather than ~30 minutes. The fat from the olive oil may also increase absorption of any other sleep aid supplements you choose to take.

2024.05.16 04:24 yodabutter69 Does anybody have experience with intermittent fasting? Is it safe?

So I have had 3 seizures before. Over the course of 8 or so years. After the second one I started taking lamictal but the doctor was trying to switch me to something else, so we cut my lamictal dosage and half and I was supposed to be starting the other one. I don’t remember exactly what happened and yes maybe I am an idiot for not doing it right and I do feel dumb about it. But I was taking a less than therapeutic dose. 200 mg a day instead of 400. And I believe I was taking the 200XR. When I had the seizure the doc immediately did a blood test and found the level of lamotrigine in my body was not a therapeutic dose. I slowly increased my dosage to 400.
So now I take 400 mg, I have been tested and there is a therapeutic dose in my blood. I have not had any seizures since I started the proper dosage.
So after the second seizure is when I started the meds and about 2 years later I had another seizure. I was very sleep deprived, was mourning, hadn’t ate properly and was playing a music festival and it happened during my set. I say these bc they all can be factors.
Anyway it has been about 10 months since my last seizure. I have been gaining weight Ever since I can remember. I started an SSRI a while back that just made me gain more. I haven’t been able to go to the gym much bc I injured my wrist, I know I could still go but I want to play basketball and climb and not just sit on a machine the whole time. I want to be better at it but I am working towards getting more exercise.
The main problem with my diet is late at night. I will eat healthy all day and then at night I just want to eat trash and sugar sugar sugar. I have found that it is super effective for me to fast bc if I stop eating at a certain time I will consume no garbage and sugar that night bc I have already stopped eating.
My neuro said that keto or being in ketosis is effective in treating seizures and I have heard fasting is a big part of keto. My concern is that I did not have proper food in my body at the time of the last seizure. I am just wondering if intermittent fasting is ok or if it would put me more at risk for having a seizure. I know ketosis can achieved by the diet and or fasting. So kind of seems confusing.
I would appreciate any helpful or positive input.
Also side note in case it matters- I am also taking pantaprozale for acid reflux and recently started vyvanse again but am not taking it every day.
TIA! ❤️

2024.05.16 01:20 bettermetips Weight Loss Tips: 20 Science-Based Strategies That Actually Work. Part 2

Back to exploring the 20 top tips that may have a considerable impact on weight loss.
Have you tried any of these tips yet? Leave a comment and let us know how it went! 👇
11. Eat (Healthy) Fats
Dietary fats provide energy, regulate hunger hormones, and help in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. So, even when you are trying to cut weight, eating fats is essential. Healthy sources of fats include avocado and olive oils, as well as seeds, nuts, and oily fish.
12. Practice Mindful Eating
Mindful eating is based on a practice of Buddhism – mindfulness which means focusing on the present while acknowledging your feelings and sensations. This approach requires an individual to entirely focus on food while eating. It encourages an individual to gain full awareness of their eating experiences. Basically, it involves eating without distraction, slowly while paying attention to how the food tastes, smells and looks. This practice promotes healthy eating habits as you get to make eating an intentional act instead of an automatic one. In the long-term, it may promote weight loss.
13. Chew Slowly
Putting in a conscious effort to chew your food more slowly may help increase weight loss. Slow eating has been shown to reduce energy intake during meals. According to a small study, caloric intake was higher with chewing 15 times per bite than with 50 times per bite (4). So take time to appreciate the food you eat, chew slower, and do not hurry through meals.
14. Find Exciting Ways To Cure Boredom
Many of us often resort to snacking when boredom hits. You might find yourself in the kitchen looking for something to eat. So keeping your mind engaged is a great way to avoid random snacking throughout the day. Unhealthy snacks contain a lot of extra calories, which are unhelpful for weight loss.
Try out simple, fun activities like gardening, crocheting, knitting, cleaning your room, or reading a book. Resist the urge to reach out for a candy bar or a bag of chips. Make the smarter choice and fill up your extra time doing something fun.
15. Walk More
Walking is an excellent form of a low-intensity workout. It is one of the best weight loss tips for women over 30. In the case you have a busy day at work and cannot do a full workout, walking is a great alternative. It is a simple way to remain active and burn a few extra calories.
Instead of using the elevator, try taking the stairs, walk to the grocery store instead of driving there or take a short evening walk. The best part is that you can listen to music, an audiobook, or your favorite podcast while you walk.
16. Eat Your Calories
It is a fact that weight gain is a result of the consumption of extra calories. So when it comes to weight loss, many women tend to go too low on calorie intake. It is important to note that calories are essential for the proper functioning of the body. It is only when you consume more calories than the body needs does it become detrimental.
17. Avoid Added Sugar
Added sugars are any sweeteners added to food or drinks during preparation or processing. They contain extra calories but lack essential macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Added sugars increase the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes type II, and weight gain (3).
Sodas, energy drinks, candy, and desserts are the most common sources of added sugars. And given that foods with added sugars are sweet, they are very tempting and easy to overeat. To promote weight loss and your overall health, cut back on added sugars.
18. Practice Yoga
Practicing yoga promotes physical, spiritual, and mental development to bring out a better version of yourself. Active forms of yoga may be a great tool to help you cut weight. These intense types of yoga like power yoga, hot yoga, and ashtanga may help you burn more calories as they involve a series of fast-paced poses.
Yoga may also help increase metabolism and increase muscle tone. Yoga also helps reduce stress levels, therefore, reducing stress eating. With weight loss being your primary goal, it is best to combine it with other forms of exercise like walking or jogging.
19. Swim More Often
Swimming is a great way to burn calories and tone muscle while having fun. With low or moderate laps, you burn about 423 calories per hour. It is also a full-body workout. So, call your girls, pack that colorful bikini you love, and go for a swim.
20. Snack Smarter
Choosing healthy snacks that are low in calories is a great way to promote weight loss and reduce hunger levels between meals. Choose snacks that keep you full for longer and reduce cravings. Avoid sugary or salty snacks as they tend to make you hungry (6).

DISCLAIMER: ICE CREAM IS NOT A NECESSITY OR A MAIN SOURCE FOR NUTRITION.
vegan ice creams from what I’ve seen have no calcium or very little calcium vs traditional cows milk ice cream has at least 10% of the daily value of ice cream. Vegan Ice creams typically have gums, oils and sugar for obvious reasons to make the consistency and taste good. I would hope that vegan ice creams brands would add some calcium. At least some add protein. SO, what is the communities vegan ice cream recommendations that is not Really healthy (duh) but better than some others?:) thanks! Btw I’m just talking ice cream, please don’t make this a deep issue or find some reason to be upset. Be nice in the comments and please just agree to disagree. Cool?

2024.05.16 00:19 Core2score CMV: The agricultural revolution gutted our health

I'm not a supporter of the dubious paleodiet, that's because one thing that made us very successful as a species is being very versatile omnivores. Archaic humans ate a wide diversity of foods depending on where they lived. There is no single "paleodiet". I also have to say that some of the foods that new foods we adapted to after the agricultural revolution, such as dairy products, were rather healthy.
With that said, I strongly believe that agriculture destroyed our health.
Hunter gatherers ate things like all different kinds of meat and fish (along with an assortment of seafoods), fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and eggs. This means they usually ate a lot of protein and polyunsaturated fats and a comparatively lower to medium amount of carbs. They also had to work much less often, with about 20 to 28 hours per week being enough.
Since the agricultural revolution, and up until maybe the WWI or even the end of WW2, people had to shift their diets to a mostly carbohydrates, and most of the things archaic humans enjoyed became exclusive to the rich and powerful only. Wheat became the staple, with some fruits and veggies here and there. Meat and fish became far less common for the avg person, and people had to work more for far less. Even today, most people eat far worse than our ancestors did (although healthy food is far more accessible than it's ever been since the agricultural revolution).
We eat a lot of bread, almost all processed foods are awful, many preservatives that are still used today are extremely bad for your health, and fast food (which is a 0.75 trillion dollars industry today) is both poor nutritionally and horrible for your health. We also have a far more sedentary lifestyle on average despite working many more hours.
The proof is in the pudding: the leading causes of death worldwide are cancer and heart problems, this makes total sense! Because we're eating way way more sugar and carbs than we evolved to deal with, insulin resistance diabetes hypertension atherosclerosis and other heart conditions are spiraling out of control and getting very common. Because of the pollutants in the air and in our foods (such as additives and food preservatives) cancer has become prevalent. Because most people aren't getting half as much dietary fibers as their bodies need colon cancer is prevalent. Trust me, without modern medicine most of us wouldn't make it past our late 30s.
I could keep going on for pages. A lot of people say that it would be great for our ancestors to enjoy the creature comforts that we have today, just like we would be happy to have to work no more than 24 hours a week. But is it really great to give people what they don't want or need? What use would archaic humans have for a smartphone or laptop? However, we all would love to work less and still be able to live healthier.
UPDATE: IMPORTANT: I'm talking about agricultural revolution as in after we stopped being nomadic hunter gatherers, I'm not saying life today is worse than it was in medieval Eu.. Please read before replying to a completely diff point.

2024.05.16 00:04 DebtfreeNP Need help- sour snacks

I am working on weight loss and cannot take any stimulants due to another condition I have. I use sour candies to help me focus when I have to do repetitive paperwork. My dietician wants me to find something else and recommended a snack before my paperwork time. I tried to explain that it isn't because I am hungry or wanting sugar, it is the sourness that is stimulating so I can focus.
Any one have any sour food recommendations for semi-healthy stimulation when doing boring paperwork? Was thinking about trying berries but the texture gets to me. Thanks

2024.05.15 23:52 rizzo1717 UPDATE: tracking for several weeks and no change

UPDATE: tracking for several weeks and no change
I posted here last fall (now deleted) about how I had been meticulously tracking by weighing every gram, and budgeting for eating out, but I got weighed at my doctors office and my weight hadn’t changed at all, and the way my clothes fit didn’t change at all.
To recap, I’m 5’7” F and have been around 185 pounds for the last several years. I’m a firefighter, lead and active lifestyle (a lot of people questioned that and doubted activity level). Historically, I’ve focused on weight lifting/body building, but since April of last year, I’ve also started doing 30 min spins on peloton.
I had been trying to hit 1676 calories, as that’s what my BMR is. My rules of engagement were if I don’t use it, I lose it. No carry over calories.
Lots of feedback included: take progress pictures, take measurements, weigh yourself consistently, get blood labs, talk to your doctor, drop your calories, you’re obviously not tracking reliably, you’re obviously over eating on the days you eat out, count macros instead of calories.
I absolutely will not drop my calories. 1676 is already low for my activity level. Everything else is flexible, for me, this is not.
I ended up having a hysterectomy on December 7. I was consistent with tracking up until the night before my surgery. It was my “last meal” so to speak, where I indulged. And it was amazing.
To summarize what has happened between 12/7 and now, I have almost completely cut out refined sugars (which I didn’t really consume before, but I did always count them - now I actively avoid them) and dairy. I have found these two to be the greatest sources of inflammation in my body. I used to keep baby bell cheese on hand for snacks. I don’t do that anymore.
After my surgery, the holidays happened and even though I cut out sugar and dairy, I basically stopped counting. I wasn’t indulging, I was monitoring my portions but I was no longer weighing and measuring. NYE happened, I drank a bunch. Whatever.
January was meh. I feel like it’s kinda of a slug of a month. People bouncing back from the holidays and trying to get their shit together. I was still off the sugars and dairy and weighing. Still recovering from surgery, being as active as I can.
February is when people started making comments about how I look. I bumped into a friend at a bar I hadn’t seen since July of last year. He didn’t recognize me. He checked with his buddy the bartender to see if Rizzo was the name on my tab to confirm it was really me.
Three coworkers introduced themselves to me before realizing “oh it’s you!” 4 have said I look good/skinny/fit/lean. Several others have asked if I’m doing okay health-wise.
My chiropractor asked what I was doing differently because it looked like I lost a bunch of weight. I said tbh nothing right now. Kinda gave up around the holidays.
My grandmother, my uncle and his gf have all made comments.
And most recently - yesterday - my ex came to visit, flew in from the other side of the country. I last saw him in February, and he didn’t say anything about my body then, but he asked how much weight I’d lost last night. He said I looked great then, and I look great now and as long as I’m healthy and happy, he’s happy.
Since all this commentary, I’ve tried to count and measure where I can, but I’m only about 50% consistent. The other 50% of the time I just try to maintain serving sizes. Even on the days where I’m weighing my meals, I won’t count/include a glass or wine, or maybe not be on the dot with salad dressing, or might round up to the next round number on the scale.
But here’s the fun part in all of this: I still don’t notice any difference in myself. I don’t see any noteworthy changes in the mirror. My clothes don’t fit dramatically different - I maybe pull up my pants now more often. There’s one belt I use for work where I’m using the smallest belt hole which I haven’t used in like 8 years but outside of that, I haven’t noticed a damn thing.
I know y’all are gonna come for me for this, but I haven’t stepped on a scale since that last doctors appt I posted about. I have no idea how much I weigh.
My biggest goal now is to keep doing whatever it is that’s working for me (avoiding sugars and dairy, maintaining flexibility but also healthy portions) and not slip into an unhealthy relationship with food and counting because I’ve done that before and it sucked for my mental health.

2024.05.15 23:43 a-real-live-deer Considering Surgery: Has anyone had the "mini-sleeve"?

Pretty much what it says in the title! I am considering bariatric surgery and I'm wondering if anyone on the sub has had the mini-sleeve procedure done. It seems to be exclusive to a clinic in Dallas with a Dr. Leah Dill.
My aunt just got it done about a month ago and is very happy with her results so far, but I wanted to ask if anyone in here has had this surgery, perhaps further in the past, and can give me an idea of long-term results and recovery!
Info about me: 38/F CW: 350 lbs, have been succesful in the past with diet and exercise but never able to sustain the lifestyle changes. I am pretty much totally healthy (good blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, heart works normal, all that stuff) but I do have sleep apnea so I'm hoping my insurance would cover it

2024.05.15 23:43 pelicanpearl Concerns About Recent Urine Test Results and Preparing for Glucose Test

I'm currently 30 weeks + 2 days pregnant and have never had high sugar levels or glucose detected in my urine until recently. Last week, before a scan, I ate a small Milky Way bar in the car on the way to the hospital to get the baby moving more for the scan, and unexpectedly, the midwife asked for a urine sample. She detected glucose in my urine, but I explained that I had just eaten chocolate. Then today, during another check-up appointment, protein was found in my urine. I had a breakfast of milk with a plain organic Weetabix and for lunch, two pieces of toast with avocado and eggs, and I hadn't drunk much water because I had a busy work afternoon. Now, they're recommending the glucose test, and I'll do it for the baby's safety, despite having a very healthy diet and only indulging in an occasional sweet treat on weekends. Do you have any advice for the three-day preparation period before the test? Specifically, what to eat or avoid to help pass the test?

2024.05.15 23:29 olivemarie2 140 Calorie Lunch or Snack

140 Calorie Lunch or Snack
I love these low carb/low calorie tortillas. So easy and convenient for a quick, filling, healthy, tasty lunch or snack. If you want more protein, add a couple slices of turkey.
One large flour tortilla (I just threw it in the microwave for 30 seconds because I am lazy) with 2 tablespoons of hummus, a quarter of a medium tomato, a quarter of a cucumber, some sliced red onion.
140 calories 9g protein 16g fiber 0g sugar
If you want to eat 2 of these for a bigger meal it's still only 280 cals with 18g protein and 32g fiber. If this "La Tortilla Factory" brand is not available near you, just search for Low Carb Tortillas as there are several brands with similar offerings.

2024.05.15 23:23 Anythingcrazy1 Will cellulite decrease if I lose weight ?

Hello, I am a 32 year old female (163 cm, 58kg). I lived my entire life eating bad food(sugar, fast food etc) and even when I was skinnier (50kg) I had a lot of cellulite on my thighs and now it is much worse. 3 weeks ago I started working out(cardio, Hitt, abs etc ) and I also make sure I count my calories so that I expend more energy than I consume, however my diet quality has not changed much because whenever I try eating "healthy" I give up shortly after. My questions is , will I still be able to lose " body fat" ? and will working out lessen the appearance of my cellulite ? Also if anyone had a similar experience can you share what worked for you? Thank you

2024.05.15 20:56 Crazy_lowdown27 My fully successful experience

I’m a senior in college so I already need to preface by saying how I’m much younger and was not dealing with an insane amount of weight that I wanted to lose. I graduated high school in great shape. I was slim, had an awesome metabolism, was extremely active, and had clear skin and great hair. College was definitely a different experience for me. First off, I went to school in the Deep South and found that there were fewer healthy food choices, plus, it was a sec school which has a large drinking and partying culture. Through my freshman year I maintained my physique but by the middle of my sophomore year I began to develop love handles, a belly, and eventually gained a whole gut. I put on 38 pounds between sophomore year and the beginning of my senior year which with my build showed very prominently. It was this spring, my senior spring that I decided I wanted to jump at the idea of doing what I could to rectify my weight. I had no time to become a gym junkie and enjoy my sleep too much to push myself to get up early so I did minimal research and found two great points. 1) walking is the answer to all health problems. 2) water is the greatest weight loss supplement. I pitched my car keys in a drawer and began walking everywhere. This was very easy for me to do since it was a college town and most college towns are very walkable. I would get excited to put in my headphones and walk to class, to the grocery store, to restaurants when I was supposed to meet up with friends etc. I instantly saw a change in my demeanor and by Friday each week I would feel energized and ready for the weekend. It improved my sleep schedule and I was clocking about 100 minutes of exercise on my Apple Watch daily just from walking and burning enough calories to be at a deficit some days! I learned from a friend that before pool parties they would do this thing called the 20 hour gallon. Basically you purchase a gallon of water from the grocery store and finish it in 20 hours. That is a healthy amount of hydration for that time period. It’s just over what is recommended daily for a grown man. I will also add that when doing this he and myself would cut all sugar and sodas and eat mostly lean foods. He said that if he wanted to have a good body in a short notice that would help him flush out and reduce bloating. I began doing this 2-3 times a week and noticed the weight that I was battling around my mid section shed away. Water is without a doubt the greatest weapon we have for weight loss. In conclusion- I know that this isn’t relatable to many people’s circumstances but I wanted to share that I was able to shed 30 of those 38 pounds in 3 months with minimal forced exercise and proper hydration. If you feel lost in your weight loss journey do things that don’t require too much effort but will give you great results and improve your general health! I feel like I’m in control again and am now going to begin a fitness journey to tone and build my body with healthy weight.

2024.05.15 20:45 Nicwearsgucci 5.8 to 5.6

Never thought I’d see the day, in just 3 months I reversed it!
But my goal is 5.2.
Here’s some info about me, I’m about 5’11-6’ weighting at 157-162ish. So pretty skinny guy.
Being pre diabetic changed my life, if I didn’t randomly take that test to check if I’m okay, I would’ve been consuming RED 40s, processed foods, drinking every weekend, etc.
Here’s what I did:
First I threw away all my snacks and processed foods. I budgeted for healthy and WHOLE foods. If I craved sweets I tried my hardest to forget about it.
Learned to always look at each foods ingredients. For example: peanut butter should only have ONE INGREDIENT. Not 5+ smh. Unless the food is meant to have multiple ingredients, but you wanna make sure that each Ingredient is whole. Use Yuka app as reference.
I learned that if you aren’t craving protein, you shouldn’t be eating the bad foods.
I ate balanced meals such as chicken breast, party wings, lean steak but cutting off the visible outer fat to reduce the trans fats or whatever it is lol. Ground meat. EGGS EVERY MORNING. I at least do 4-5 eggs. I changed my oil from canola to olive oil and avocado oil.
I changed my Teflon pans to stainless steel baby!!! For some reason the food just tastes better on stainless steel. So invest the money, Costco has the best deals.
Vegetables are important af. I’d either get romaine lettuce, spinach’s, asparagus, or the mix spring vegetables. These are the foods that will balance your meals. Trust.
I incorporate fruits like, all types of berries, pears, apples. I avoided bananas since it raises sugars but idk I don’t have a CGM to try it out.
I incorporate fats sometimes just cuz healthy fats are expensive to come by but luckily I grow my own avocados lol. I’d add avocados and healthy peanut butter.
I incorporate whole grain bread, eliminate the white bread trash please. Get on that whole grain Dave’s killer. Apparently it raises blood sugar but I’ve been eating it and I did fine I suppose.
I incorporated a healthy water intake. I would drink powdered made electrolytes until I discovered this better alternative. - Sparking spring water. I use S.Pellegrino, got it at Costco and what I do is I cut a lemon or lime in half and use the half lemon to squeeze on a tall cup, I add a pinch of the pink sea salt, add ice and the sparkling water and omfg, healthy electrolyte with no additives and it taste fricken good. Don’t over do it cuz it can be addictive . I drink it at least 1-2 times a day and a bit of regular water. But don’t over hydrate yourself. If you don’t have a tint in the restroom you’re over hydrating. Google a color pee chart lol.
This is great for soda lovers
I incorporated a cold press juicer but damn it can be time consuming and expensive in terms of ingredients. But make sure it’s majority vegetables. Add like one or two fruits like apples or oranges to add the sweetness.
Bought the ninja ice cream maker. Make sure you add whole ingredients not any of that processed stuff to help make a good icecream. You want it to be a bit sweet? Use monk fruit. It’s better than sugar but more expensive. You wanna bake your favorite sweets? That’s fine I’d find ingredients that doesn’t raise blood sugars. Make sure the ingredients are whole. ALWAYS.
Before I eat the healthy snacks I always have to incorporate veggies now. 3 months ago I would’ve never thought lol.
Incorporate exercise. I have dumbbells at home so I occasionally do squats and other forms of lifting . I do pushups as well. Gyms are boring to me so I found this group to play my favorite sport. Which is soccer, I play 2 hours straight maxing out 10,000 steps+. If you hate the gym find a sport, 10x better imo.
It’s hard for me to max out 10k steps but I do at least 2k.
Now you will see results in a month, my face got slim, your mental health improves, you feel grateful for the smallest things. Processed foods will make your stomach upset. I was so used to processed foods that I didn’t realize how bad it was making me feel.
I promised myself that if I reverse it I’ll go back to the junk. But hell nah lol this change is for life lol. I love it.
And yes I did relapse, I got drunk once in the 3 months and drank responsible one day and ate some processed foods. But each time I did I would feel sick.
There will be cynical people telling you it’s okay to eat processed foods once in a while, and ridicule your new diet. Don’t let that get to you. It’s your body not theirs.
You’re not perfect so you’ll break rules here and there.
I’ll update if I have more to share. If I can do it you can to.

2024.05.15 20:11 Severe-Guard-5523 AITAH for clearly favoring my normal child to my disabled child?

I (43M) and my wife (38F) are both very healthy individuals, we used to exercise everyday and rarely eat anything with excessive sugar or fats. Growing up my father had contracted lung cancer and I was told that cancer was a very common thing within our family so I was warned if I was to have kids that it was gonna be a possibility. I didn't want kids but my wife was someone who grew up in a very small family and wanted to have children, she gave the ultimatum that either we have a family or she leaves. I love my wife and never wanted to be separated from her so I caved in and we started trying for children.
8 years ago we gave birth to my son Elliot (not his real name) and during the pregnancy there had been absolutely no signs that he was anything but normal. However when he was born, he was quickly taken away from my wife and I with the nurses panicking, an hour later being told that our son had cerebral palsy. Apparently according to my wife, it had been genetic in her family but that she didn't think it was worth it to tell me. When Elliot was three, he was diagnosed with leukemia and was told he was only going to have a small handful of years to live despite taking chemo.
Because of this, I asked my wife if we could have another child to replace Elliot when he passes away, my wife got annoyed with this and said that our son wasn't going to die and that he would make it. But the more I looked at Elliot growing up, the more I saw just a vegetable that sits in his room all day. He's bald, can't even talk, drools everywhere and needs my wife to change him every 4 hours. I feel like I've had less of child and more of a infant. Now this is the part where I'll admit that I did something wrong but I ended up hiding my wife's birth control and "accidentally" didn't pull out when we were intimate for the first time in like three years since Elliot had been alive.
Thankfully my wife did end up getting pregnant however the 9 months that she was pregnant, were the most miserable 9 months of my life. When I get home from work I want comfort and affection from the woman that I love but whenever I would get home, I would hear my wife snoring on the couch and have to clean up Elliot and his drool and mess. I felt like I never got a break and we couldn't even get him a spot at daycare because my wife didn't approve of any of them well enough to take care of Elliot's needs.
Thankfully after the 9 months of hell, my other son was born after 72 hours of labor and a C section. My wife let me name him and I chose the name Dante (not his real name), and this child was completely normal and gave me an actual sense of what being a father was. I was almost never separated from Dante and whenever I got home, he was the first face I wanted to see. My wife started working again after my mother in law flew down when Elliot was four to come take care of our sons.
5 years later, Elliot is 8 and Dante is 5. Elliot has not even gone to a real school yet and all he does is sit in his room where my wife has now put a tv to let him watch his favorite show and he still can't talk and constantly needs to be in the same room as a my wife or he will cry. I feel as though this has put a lot of stress on Dante who has been heavily neglected by my wife in favor of Elliot all because Elliot requires a little more attention. But if you were to meet Dante, you would see how special and smart he is, in kindergarten he is already reading chapter books and can speak almost perfectly compared to Elliot who can't even say his own name.
Whenever we go out in public, I unconsciously try to step away from Elliot to not be seen with him, I'm an embarrassment to my family who says I have a dumbass for a son and I've been alienated from all my brothers who used to laugh at Elliot but my wife told me to tell them to stop so I just decided to avoid them. Just this year for Dante's birthday I ended up taking him to the amusement park which was only an hour away from our home and didn't take my wife or Elliot.
My wife only ended up finding out because Dante couldn't shut his mouth about it and told my wife how happy and excited he was to have the most amazing dad for his birthday. After this happened, my wife and I got in a huge argument which left her taking Elliot and moving into to her parents' house leaving me alone at home with Dante.
Currently I'm sitting at the kitchen table while Dante is at school and this has been bugging me for almost my entire father life. I need to know if I'm in the wrong for just wanting a son that I can talk to and spend time with, I can't do any of that with Elliot and I thought having Dante would fix my marriage and my mental. Please tell me what to do, I don't hate Elliot, he's my son and I love him and I also love my wife and don't wanna lose her too.
