2024.05.29 04:50 Ok-Internal-4677 Premium account suspended for no reason

I thought the YouTube App on my phone was having problems until I checked my email, apparently "We have reviewed your content and found severe or repeated violations of our Community Guidelines. Because of this, we have removed your channel from YouTube.". I'm totally shocked. Firstly, I don't even know that my channel existed, never posted any videos. I have also never left any comments, I'm just a consumer watching videos and listening to music videos. So how is it possible that I committed severe or repeated violations?
Furthermore, this is my main account on my phone, I used my real name, subscribed to YouTube Premium, real payment tied and was auto debited monthly with no issues. So now I can't use YouTube Premium anymore, not even login my own Gmail account on YouTube.
I tried to appeal, thinking they will definitely see that this is a mistake. However, within few minutes, I received a generic reply "We have reviewed your channel carefully and confirmed that it violates our Community Guidelines. We know that this is probably disappointing news but it's our job to make sure that YouTube is a safe place for all.". This is unacceptable, not only did they not address any of the concerns I asked such as the fact that I have never uploaded any videos or posted any comments before, asking them to provide more details or evidence as to what the violations were, the most egregious part was stating they reviewed "carefully", when they can reply within minutes, I doubt any effort or care was involved. Another appeal to them resulted in "We received an appeal for your channel, and it looks like a previous appeal has recently been denied. Please take a look at the email that we sent previously for additional details on the rejection.". Which is just insulting, what "additional details" when I was not provided with any details?
Please if anyone can assist me further, I would really appreciate it.. I have even paid up the premium membership up till 20th of June.

2024.05.29 04:41 DrCalm 26 / GMT+2 /PC - LF friends to make a tight-knit friend group ^-^

Hiii everyone, my friend and I are looking for new people to play games with and to make a tight-knit friend group where we support eachother and spend time with eachother ^.^. We are variety gamers and we tend to jump between games we like so thats going to be a trend within this group. Also a plus is if you are talkative because we are a shy bunch and take our time getting to know people. We dont do horror or gory games with very specific exceptions, and we dont really play multiplayer FPS games (too much competitive spirit for our taste and toxicity). We are looking for open minded and chill and nice people (lgbtq+ friendly is a must). We are bit of completionists but also enjoy chill gameplay and we play for fun. We dont mind if anyone would be new to the games we already play since we are more than happy to introduce people to them. We tend to take our time with most games, take in the sights and explore, no rushing ^.^. Need people who have plenty of time to play games too since we play a lot and our sleep schedule can be all over the place.
We are also pretty heavy into MMORPGs so playing those is a must (even if we play them "casually" content wise, we tend to invest a lot of time into them, especially our main 3)
Sample of games we play atm:
Guild Wars 2 - an MMO where we achiev hunt, do open world stuff mainly and collect appereances etc. Its kind of our main game we always return to, especially for ingame events. Currently on a break after playing it a lot.
WoW - (currently on semi-break) where we also collect stuff, we like m+ (we plan on doing keys in next xpac, maybe some this last season too if we can find people) otherwise we do similar things as we do in GW2. We may or may not also try raiding in the game but it will highly depend on people around us and how new xpac ends up being since we are waiting on that one the most with all the QoL and so on.
FFXIV - Returned for current events and to catch up with the story to be ready for next xpac, we plan on playing for first month or two fully to experience launch and depending on how much fun we have with classes (new ones + old) and if we find friends to play with, might do Extreme trials but otherwise we are very casual, mostly playing game for all the casual content and a bit of socialising (since emotes in this games and characters are on point)
Grounded - one of the exceptions of somewhat horror games, we love this game and are itching to play it (we played it a lot) but we would like to have one to two more people to play it with for more fun and new experience
Minecraft - we also love this game and I run a private server for my friend and I and for whoever plays with us. Just like with grounded we are missing people to play it with for more fun, we have it lightly modded with mods we chose to enhance the vanilla experience + add some more fun things (like Twilight Forest). We take our time in here since we like to chill and do whatever we want (including just taking in the sights of the game)
Terraria - We played countless hours of base game and would love to have more people to play with, since my friend and I played over 400 hours together and we want to have fun with more people.
Rotwood - super fun roguelite game (we also like hades 2)
Stardew Valley - a little overwhelming but super cute game that has potential, we have not played it much yet
Overcooked 2- fun little game to play every now and then, makes us laugh a lot
We really like cute games too, like Slime Rancher 1,2, super auto pets etc. and games like Hollow Knight (our fav gave more or less) which unfortunately are not multiplayer, but gives a good idea of what other kind of games we like and are open to playing more than what we currently play.
DM me here if this caught your interest and sorry for the long post but I like being thorough so people know what they are getting into =^-^=

Dr. Marshall, June 8th, 2012 -
Begin journal:
Hanging back at the ranger station today, seems like it should be a nice weekend. Weather cleared up after that long ass winter and the snows about cleared up. We’ve been tasked with monitoring this herd of elk moving through the area. I guess they’ve been displaying some “anomalous” behavior, approaching tourists seemingly unaware or unafraid of the potential danger. Odd but not unlike anything we’ve seen before. I’ve had Tim Dog posted up in the hunter’s perch for a few hours watching em. Gonna go radio for a report pretty soon. Other than that not much going on out here. Just the wind rustling in the pines and my good old girl Taby. She’s such a sweet dog :)
End of Entry #1
Dr. Marshall, June 10th, 2012
Entry: Something strange is going on here. Tim is back but with some interesting news. He spent another day up there monitoring the herd, but…. Something’s off. He used the Elk call we gave him and it worked, but it seems it might’ve worked a bit too well. Soon as the herd showed up, they just…. watched him. For hours. He was too scared to climb back down so he radio’d for a couple rangers. Rangers came and tried scaring em off, but the Elk wouldn’t budge. They just stood there, staring at him. In my 25 years of doing this I’ve never once seen Elk behave this way. Our current hypothesis is some kind of infection, but so far there just isn’t enough to say. I don’t like this. Not one bit. We’re gonna try to take samples from the Elk in hopes of finding out what in God’s name is going on out here.

Entry: Well it’s official - something is going on. We took samples of blood and urine from the Elk to be analyzed back at the lab in Sac. One of the rangers spotted what looked like some kind of tick or parasite latched onto one of the Elk. But when he tried to remove the Elk went berserk. Smacked him up badly and he had to go to the medic. We got a closer look after isolating one of em and it seems to track. We found a small, worm-like creature attached just beneath the haunch, tucked in the skin between the abdomen and the haunch of the Elk. It was half burrowed inside and didn’t seem to respond to any physical contact, but when we went for removal, the Elk started acting up again. So we latched it down and tried tranquilizing it. No dice. Elk won’t go to sleep. Won’t do anything except eat and stare. There is no way we’re dealing with some novel species. The hell is going on here? A larva that infects Elk—in North America none the less? It’s stranger than fiction. Anyway I’ve been having trouble sleeping the past few nights pondering the possibilities. In other news apparently some of the townies have been acting up lately. Man found dead out on the trail along with a few others in the same spot. Signs of predation after death. Folks been reporting hearing and witnessing strange behavior from their neighbors. The more I stay here the less I feel safe. If it weren’t for my job security I’d have left days ago. This place is starting to give me the creeps.

Entry: Lab reports came back. Supposedly heightened amounts of adrenaline and cortisol are present in the blood. They also found trace amounts of what seem to be tiny hairs, mycelia-like in nature. What. The. Fuck. We’ve begun postulating there could be some sort of fungal infection but this wouldn’t track with the presence of larvae in our Elk. None of it makes sense. I’m concerned we’re dealing with some sort of invasive species but I lack any explanation of what it could be. My sleep has become worse and worse over time. Lately I could swear I’m hearing shit. Thought I heard the voice of old Tim saying “Help, Help” in between strange mumblings and clickings. But when I get out of my bunk to look around—nothing. Hope I’m not losing it. I’ve heard the townies have been acting up even worse. Wandering about aimlessly in the woods. There was a bear attack just yesterday. Apparently the man sat there while the bear ate him, completely straight faced. I put in a request for transport back home to Sacramento. I’m done with this shit. I’ve seen enough. This ain’t the one for me. I know some young up and comer might want to come out here to finish my research. But I’m getting too old for this type of shit. I want to see my kids graduate.

This could be my last entry. I honestly don’t know. I’m to wait for transport home hopefully by July 2nd but I don’t know if I’ll make it that long. Tim is gone. He’s gone. Found dead in a cougar’s den about 10 miles away from base camp. But I swear to God I keep hearing him. I think I’ve lost my mind. There’s something in the goddamned cellar. And it’s mimicking Tim. I can hear him cry. I can hear him beg for my help. It’s real. I swear to God it’s real. I can’t get a wink of sleep and I’m counting the minutes till sun down every night. I’m scared. I want to go home. The rangers all left base camp overnight. I don’t blame them. Something’s the matter. Half the population in town has gone mad. People in droves, just wandering into the woods.
I’m going to go into the basement. I need to find out for myself what’s really going on here. Janelle, I love you. I’ll never forget that time we spent in Bora Bora after you finished your thesis. Take care of the kids. Tell Jackson his daddy loves him. Show them my catalogues. Teach them to love nature. I have to go. I love you.
Final entry.

2024.05.29 04:25 JammerzSkip add more details to stratagems and weapon stats

what do i mean by the title?
well i remember a while ago a twitter post form the now EX CEO said how all weapons in the game has like 50 different stats and showed a example as to how the UI for that would of looked showing more in depth armour pen, bullet calibre velocity, and so much more.
now looking at the game as we have it now. the armour pen descriptions are total bogus as its not as simple as "none-light-medium-heavy" armour. from the research ive seen others do it goes some thing more like armour level 0 to 10. but the game doesnt feel the need to give us this detail.
as for stratagems we know NOTHING about their actuall stats. armour pen, mag size, capacity nothing. we just experiment with it untill we find it out outselfs but again there are still ALOT of stats missing here. for example the auto cannon VS the autocannon sentry. both the same gun on a technicality but yet the autocannon sentry can penetrate hulk front armour but the shoulder fired one cannot. cause we again do not get the details about armour pen or any thing that would tell us this.
another point for stratagems. the alignment of stratagems. such as eagle strikes going left to right or coming from different angles depending which one you use. the best example that most people know of from memes is people using the 500kg from a angle and it lands on a ledge next to them instead of at the intended target cause we are not told the bomb is dropped from behind us going in front to land and blow up.
a extra point on the stratagems is also effective range. on sentrys or orbital barrages. such as how far the mortar sentry can reach and what distance it cannon target in cause the enemy is to close. from the max range on the 380/120mm including the upgraded accuracy range.
conclusion? tell us more about the tools were using so we can better understand them and use them more effectively instead of dismissing them as garbage right off the bat. the EX CEO said this more details UI about weapon stats and so on wasnt added to prevent so much clutter or some thing along those lines. i personally think the game can benefit from actuall weapon stats being shown for all guns/statagems.

In the Beta we were able to sample skins. I'd like something like it back. You?
https://preview.redd.it/ffau4cnd0a3d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d74d0f8d01bbb237e7956c481dfc6d55cb31b91a
Hey!
As mentioned; In the beta you could try out any character (plenty said on this already) and have them equip any available outfit in custom/training. I personally found that a really "Player First" aspect and appreciated it greatly in purchase considerations.
It's gone. Now when I see a skin I may even be vaguely interested in (Wonder Woman Beach Skin) I'm hesitant. 1. Jumping in blind with little information is just asking for purchase remorse. Especially when it comes to the more expensive skins with "unique" animations/poses/etc. Without a means to sample, I can't quantify any of it. 2. A zoomed-out idle posture doesn't really sell the skin. 3. Likely the most game changing -
Skins can expand a characters tags. Which is highly advantageous for those who don't have everyone or wish to main one character and expand their value. IF you have Black Lantern WW for example, she will fulfill any "Play as a Villainous" challenge!! Cough. That said this isn't relevant to the skin's performance. Which is the primary topic.
Given there are similar games out in the market that have found means to this predicament (if they're adamant on leaving it difficult) I have some suggestions (feel free to share any as well)
LEAGUE OF LEGENDS :
https://preview.redd.it/c2gix3ac1a3d1.jpg?width=550&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e10e3397a9e279eb68098ddea24da2ba44108ec9
So flat out. League's in game skin marketing is just as ass. An admittedly often attractive picture, and... that's it.
This is greatly assuaged by a fairly easy to access PBE; where anyone with some spare time and commitment can go and really test a skin themselves. Great. Even better, due to the PBE and essentially sanctioned Content Creators there are several Youtube Showcases for any skin upcoming that are in-depth.
Good compromise. Though I don't think MVs can do this without either an incredibly motivated whale or a sanctioned account with all the content given to showcase them.
DIABLO 4 :
https://preview.redd.it/wd0rv16i1a3d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bb8aa670a26fd99db99bebf5bf0136deaef5a9f
Like Mvs and League, the skins are abhorrently overpriced ( 20$+ ), and frankly not worth it for most. That said, how they showcase them is fantastic. When you inspect a skin, you get a zoomed in and detailed model (often your own character if you have one for the class) showcasing the skin. You can then inspect further by clicking on individual armor pieces or remove it all to see the tattoo. This is awesome. If Mvs could allow at least a zoom-in and 360 rotation.
That'd be something at least. You wouldn't know how the properties work in motion (specials, projectiles,) but you'd at least be better able to visualize the prospective value for yourself.
I'm at least personally open to investing on a character's skin that I connect with, but as it is now, I'll likely abstain. What about you guys? Non-issue? Bigger problems? Better solutions?
Hopefully a dev, could give some insight to their thinking on the situation and put a lid on it. Cheers~

2024.05.29 04:23 Asktraders178 The Funded Trader Announces Withdrawal Update and New Ownership

The Funded Trader, a prominent prop trading company, has unveiled a comprehensive strategy to address recent operational challenges and prepare for a relaunch. In a series of tweets on X, the company detailed methods to stabilize and enhance its services.
Withdrawal Processing and Cryptocurrency Integration
Acknowledging delays in processing withdrawals, The Funded Trader announced that Rise Works would now handle these transactions. Clients who filed withdrawal requests before March 28 will receive payments through their originally provided cryptocurrency addresses. Additionally, the platform has been updated to include more cryptocurrency options like TRC20, ERC20, and Polygon to facilitate transactions.
Affiliate and Trader Payments
While trader payments continue, affiliate withdrawals have been temporarily suspended to focus on requests submitted before March 28. The company highlighted its progress, stating that 44% of affiliate payments, 28% of trader payouts, and 52% of stopped accounts have been processed since the suspension of operations.
Customer Support Enhancements
To improve user experience and regain consumer confidence, The Funded Trader has implemented a new help ticket system aimed at providing more relevant answers to customer inquiries.
New Ownership and Future Plans
In a significant development, The Funded Trader announced a change in ownership, now based in the Cayman Islands. The new owners are committed to corporate responsibility and sustainability, planning to use future revenues for philanthropic projects and operational improvements.
Website and Social Media Updates
Earlier in April, The Funded Trader updated multiple banners on its website, signaling an upcoming relaunch. However, no official announcement has been made on their social media, Discord channel, or website, leading to speculation and concern among users. Some even alleged account hacks or shutdowns due to the lack of communication.
Operational Challenges and Audits
Payouts were suspended earlier this month due to a “self-imposed internal audit” intended to resolve several issues. The company has faced operational difficulties following MetaQuotes’ enforcement against unauthorized services to retail customers in the US, prompting a shift away from MetaTrader platforms.
Positive Outlook Despite Challenges
Despite these challenges, The Funded Trader remains optimistic. The website now features a notice requesting client patience and providing updates on the progress toward resuming operations. A 21-day countdown to the relaunch is displayed, during which the company promises additional compensation for affected traders.
Rebuilding Trust and Stability
Known for funding traders to navigate volatile markets under strict rules, The Funded Trader began showing signs of trouble in January, with reports of trade slippage and payment rejections proliferating on Trustpilot. These issues have raised concerns about the company’s reliability and transparency.
Due to a rising number of complaints, PropFirmMatch, a website that reviews and promotes proprietary trading firms, suspended The Funded Trader from its list of recommended firms. Complaints included improper drawdowns, account access issues, and significant transaction execution delays.
As The Funded Trader works to address these issues and prepares for a relaunch, the company’s efforts to process outstanding withdrawals, improve customer service, and transition ownership demonstrate a strong commitment to restoring trust and stability in its operations.

2024.05.29 04:14 D3ad_Cup1d10 Rental Reimbursement?

Context for question, I had a driver collide with my car,and I filed a not at fault claim, as well as get a police report for the accident. The driver of the other vehicle is also covered by USAA. My car was in the shop for a month and I got a rental car 12 days prior to the car being fixed, and returned it the same day repairs on my vehicle were finished. I was reimbursed for the deductible I paid for the collision repair itself, but they only covered for half the price of the rental vehicle. I paid roughly $480~ out of pocket for a rental car.
A close relative of mine and a manager I work under are both veterans and utilize USAA auto insurance; They have told me to contact them regarding the claim, which I have done. I'm being told I shouldn't have paid anything out of pocket for my rental because I wasn't at fault, and I have rental reimbursement on my insurance. The adjuster is telling me they don't cover what I paid. I requested a statement but reading over it doesn't explain what was covered and what wasn't, it just gives me the details of when I got the car, the car information itself, and the price of the car versus what USAA covered and what I paid. I'm guessing the statements are normally limited like that so I'm not surprised, but was hoping for a more explained breakdown on the fees.
I'm just trying to understand if this is normal with anyone else's insurance through them? It doesn't seem like the adjuster for the claim want to deal with me, despite trying to be polite just getting answers, I felt rushed off the phone while trying to understand what in my insurance wouldn't cover this.

2024.05.29 04:00 Odtoast Stomach issues taking over my life!

Hi. This is quite a long post so please bear with me. I could really use some help. I’m gonna put as many details as I can in here.
Background details on me: I, (24 F) live in the UK. I’m generally healthy but slightly on the overweight side (my weight has fluctuated for as long as I can remember but the switch from on your feet retail work to office work has affected my weight) Ive never had any serious health issues apart from a blood clot on my lung when I was seventeen. Despite only being 24 - I am a recovered alcoholic. Over a year. My most recent liver function test was fine. I’ve given up cigarettes for almost two years and occasionally vape as a replacement (I know it’s terrible - I am trying to stop). I do not take drugs and am over 3 years drug clean.
My family history: on my mums side three generations have had cervical cancer. On my dad’s side stomach cancer and pancreatic cancer runs rife. My dad himself has a stomach issue called colitis.
The issue: Around eight months ago I started having these ‘pain episodes’. Always at night, never a specific food triggered it. About once every two weeks. This pain was on my left side underneath my ribs and lasted around five hours a time. It was too much to sleep but I could concentrate on a TV show if I wanted too. I originally passed it off as acid reflux but as it persisted I decided to go to the doctors. They felt my tummy. Asked me some questions about my diet and further said it was acid reflux. I was reccomended a common antacid and sent on my way.
Afew more weeks pass by and this pain persists. I now notice with every time it’s getting worse. I think to myself ‘surely acid reflux does not get THIS bad’. The pain episodes start lasting for around 7 hours. Does not matter whether I’m sitting, standing, laying down. Anything. I also noticed alongside this I felt I had a lot of trapped wind or like I needed to use the toilet without the ability too.
I went back to the doctor. They were annoyed I was back again with this issue but they listened. They now decided it could be a bout of gastritis caused by H.pylori and ordered me to submit a stool sample and IF it came back positive I’d be given antibiotics but they told me to eat bland food. Not spicy and not fried in the meantime. Which I did. This test came back negative and I was not contacted about any next steps.
More time goes by. I stick to the bland foods. The pain gets worse. I begin to get a lot of swelling in my upper abdomen when it comes. These episodes begin happening every other day. The only thing that makes me feel better? Forcing myself to vomit. And trust me, I’m not proud of it. But I tried hot water bottles, cold compresses, every position possible, antacids, encorperating more movement in my everyday. What else could I do? Once I realised the vomiting made the pain go away - that’s what I would do as soon as I felt it. I needed to be able to sleep because I had work early. I couldn’t be up all night in pain.
One night. I have a specifically terrible episode and end up in A&E. this time the vomiting didn’t help and actually made it worse. I now notice a little hard lump on my upper left abdomen that is there constantly. A&E take my blood and the results come back that my liver function is ever so slightly elevated. They feel my tummy. Tell me it’s gastritis. Send me home. By that point the pain subsided and I was exhausted. I wasn’t going to fight it.
I wake up the next day and the first thing I do is get a doctors appointment. I ask for the same doctor as last time. I give her all my symptoms. She notes the fact that I’ve noticeably lost weight since the last appointment. She feels my tummy and decides to refer me for an abdominal ultrasound to check my pancreas, liver, gallbladder and stomach. She also ordered blood tests to check me for celiac disease (again negative) and my liver again (it had returned to normal)
I waited for two months to get a refferal letter. As I write this - the scan date is just shy of a month away.
During this time. The pain has increased to daily. I vomit almost daily because it makes the pain atleast bareable verses unable to talk, or breathe, horrific pain. I went to A&E twice over it, nothing was done. I went to urgent care. They prescribed me lanzoprazole 30mg (one a day before food) hyoscine butylbromide 10mg (2 tablets 4 times a day). It helps, occasionally. I also still can’t go to the toilet and when I can (maybe once a week) it’s a real struggle. The movements are light in color.
I am always pale. I am always tired. My blood pressure is lower than normal for me but still in normal ranges
Basically. Any ideas of what this is? Anyone with similar stories. Are my doctors doing enough? I’m not convinced it’s gastritis or acid reflux. I’m doing everything I can. But this is getting pretty hard to live with.
Thankyou everyone.

2024.05.29 03:30 Kind_Appointment3168 Jesse Lyu is a con artist

I want to start this post by saying that I almost bought an R1 at launch. The only reason I held off was because by the time I had heard of it, Rabbit had sold out of the first batch or preorders and figured if that was the case I might as well wait and see what the early adopters thought. I really want the R1 to be what was promised, but it will never reach that point with the current leadership's priorities, especially if that leadership solely consists of Jesse Lyu.
Jesse Lyu is really good at raising hype, securing funding, and then leaving. He's a con artist at worst or a un-invested entrepreneur at best. Before he started Rabbit or GAMA he created a tech startup in China called Raven which he at a later point sold to Baidu. On YCombinator*, Raven is described as a "a startup which focus on artificial intelligent, big data and the next generation operating system." It's pretty hard to find much information of substance regarding the company, but I found two products that were made in collaboration with Teenage Engineering: the Baidu Raven R and the Baidu Raven H.** Both were marketed as smart home devices like an Amazon Alexa or a HomePod but uniquely featured a dot matrix display and in the case of the R, six axis of movement. As far as I'm aware however, only the H ever shipped (the Raven website is raventech.cn but I couldn't get it to ever load. If someone else can access and learns otherwise please let me know). This means that before at least two of the three products he announced shipped, Jesse left the company. He got his money and got out.
*YCombinator notes that the founder is Cheng Lu who is Jesse who also posted about it on a personal YouTube account.
**Baidu mentioned a Raven Q in this blog post, but I'm not sure that it ever shipped and when it was announced it was still under development. It's also worth noting that the most recent information I could find about it was from 2017-2018 that still said it was under development.
At a later point, he announced GAMA, a crypto project utilizing Unreal Engine. What GAMA was supposed to be is a convoluted mess, but what's important about GAMA is that Jesse created the minimum viable product, got his money, and left. In order to lessen discussions of GAMA being a rug pull scam, they 'open sourced' the software which used Lyra, a sample game that they did very little to add to or change. If you want to read more about GAMA, here is a really detailed look into what it was promised to be, what it actually was, and what happened to it.
Most recently, Jesse announced the Rabbit R1. A promising handheld AI companion device intended to be separate from your smartphone unlike the competing Humane AI Pin, another failure whose founders are now looking to sell the company. From the marketing and demos, the R1 seems like a dream come true, but just like GAMA, the Rabbit R1 over-promised and under-delivered. The handheld can and has easily been ported to Android phones eliminating the fee for the hardware component and the LAM that was promised might not exist at all, and if it does, it's not on the R1. The R1 uses hardcoded playwright scripts to navigate websites meaning that as soon as anything varies from the exact steps they've programmed it to follow, it will break. This has been discussed before on this very same subreddit by multiple people. It's only a matter of time until Jesse has made all the money he wants and he dumps this project too, which is really sad. Even though LAM works conceptually, it probably wouldn't work in concept but I have no problem with people trying as long as they're being honest about what's going on. Jesse hasn't done this. He's made so many promises and failed to deliver almost all of them including promises that lie at the core of what makes this device so appealing.
If Jesse has been so unreliable in the past, how has he gotten away with it? I think the main answer is false credibility. There are many examples of Jesse trying to make himself seem credible throughout his career history. In the case of the R1, there's a whole section on their website devoted to their 'research' complete with references, charts, and videos supposedly 'proving' the LAM is real and works. The first batch was likely intentionally small so he could say they had sold out of their first batch and brag about pre-order numbers, which did at least partially legitimately explode. GAMA used its supposed millions in funding to add credence to its claims that it could change the world, and the Baidu Raven products (and the R1 for that matter) were designed by Teenage Engineering, which while a controversial brand due to its pricing, is known for creating products with some of the finest industrial design and its unique product lineup that is used by huge musicians with few comparable options in terms of workflow and portability.
People need to stop supporting Jesse's companies so more people aren't harmed in the future. While in Raven's case it's not a huge deal because it seems to have actually worked and it was backed by a large company that likely wouldn't risk releasing a half-baked product, especially not in the US (DigitalTrends claimed it would be available in the US which to my knowledge never happened) where the reception to Chinese-based technology startups is already shaky, the other two companies have done a lot of harm. Many people have gone bankrupt or lost vast amounts of money such as retirement funds or life savings on crypto scams similar to GAMA in the past and the R1 is marketed in such a way that it seems like a premium technology product, but is priced very competitively so that even in the case that there weren't any people who wouldn't normally have bought the R1 but splurged due to the low price and high promises bought it and lost money they could've used otherwise to live more comfortably, those who got it received a product plagued by the lies of its creator.
This post wasn't intended to offend or insult people who did buy the R1 or were involved with any of Jesse's previous companies, but to attempt to explain some of Jesse's predatory practices and persuade people not to support him in the future. If it came across otherwise, I apologize.

2024.05.29 03:27 Globemaster77 Accepted July 24 Cohort, but also for NASA Skillbridge, tough decision ahead. Seeking Advice on Skillbridge Choices.

I recently received notification of acceptance into the July cohort for the MSSA program. I applied for several Skillbridges, and this was my top choice. Additionally, I applied for a NASA Skillbridge with the Cloud Computing Services office.
I'm transitioning from Air Logistics to Cloud Computing. I hold an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification, an MBA in Information Technology Management, and have about nine months of study in the Cybersecurity Workforce Certification program. Currently, I'm studying for the Security+. While I feel my IT/Cloud background is not extensive, I bring 23 years of transferable skills such as leadership and other soft skills.
I'm debating which Skillbridge will fit me better. Both provide training but do not guarantee a job afterwards. The MSSA program seems to offer more support for job search and networking compared to NASA, which is relatively new in this space. The NASA Skillbridge provides in-person networking opportunities but seems less structured in terms of job placement support.
In the end, I have to pick one. I believe having NASA on my resume could be advantageous, although Microsoft also carries significant weight. I know I got lucky and this is a great problem to have.
Which would you pick based on these details?
Feel free to share your thoughts and vote below!

2024.05.29 03:20 UnmovableFeast Pitchforks

It happened. He didn't deny that. Not like he was a suspect or anything—not yet—but he never denied it to himself. At the same time, this all happened over a decade ago—twelve years to be exact.
He didn't think of it every day; in fact, sometimes an entire month would go by where it barely crossed his mind.
In a way, that whole experience—he thought of all the abductions and murders as a singular event—now felt as if it belonged to somebody else.
It was a time in his life when he was confused, mixed-up, searching; a dark time, you know, like a phase. Who didn't have one of those in their past?
Plus, he was married now. His wife, Dee, obviously didn't know about it and he felt no obligation to tell her. Did he ask about her former lovers?
Sometimes there are things in the past and you just let them be. Whether it was Dee losing her virginity to the quarterback of the football team in the backseat at a drive-in or him using multiple black garbage bags and masking tape on that thing he didn't have time to bury in rural Tennessee, everyone has things they would rather forget about. Sometimes you just leave things where they lie.
So that's what Ned Doyle did.
Until that Sunday morning, November 6th, 1988.
He was a having a glass of Dee's pulpy homemade orange juice, waiting for his coffee to percolate, when he opened his heavy weekend edition of the New York Times (probably Ned's greatest extravagance—he liked its heft; and how the Arts & Leisure section made him feel culturally superior to his Ohio townsfolk, “the Philistines of Findlay,” he called them) when he saw the article buried in the back.
The country was two days from heading to the polls for the General Election—Bush v. Dukakis—so most everything else that week had been relegated to the back.
He read the article twice before he could even begin to make sense of it. It seemed to be a story about something called "DNA fingerprinting" and a 27-year-old baker in Great Britain named Colin Pitchfork who had confessed to raping and murdering two 15-year-old girls, in separate incidents a few years apart, after a new scientific process had been used to extract information from semen which he, Colin Pitchfork, had left at the crime scenes (likely inside the victims) some five years earlier.
Now if they could do all that after five years, why not ten years—or maybe even… twelve?
"Interesting story here," he said to Dee. It wasn't uncommon for Ned to read a news story twice—once for himself and a second time aloud to Dee while she brewed his coffee and burnt her toast. But this was his third reading and Ned acted as if it were his first.
"What do you make of that?" he asked. It somehow got worse each time he read it. After the third time, he felt as if he had been sucker punched in the stomach.
"Science Fiction is what it sounds like," Dee said matter-of-factly, pouring Ned his coffee in a mug that bore the Marathon Oil insignia. Findlay, Ohio was Marathon’s headquarters although there had been rumors circulating about a move to Texas.
"And unconstitutional," he said. "Cops running a dragnet like that, taking blood samples from 5,000 townspeople. Thankfully, that would never pass the muster here."
"They did catch the killer so maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea," she said, buttering her burnt toast. "Otherwise, who knows? They could have convicted the wrong man.”
Ned had already gotten lucky once – astonishingly so. Griffin Gerald Jones, the famed “I-75 Corridor Child Killer,” had claimed responsibility for all but one of Ned’s victims before dying in Florida’s electric chair.
"You can't have police in this country running around, sticking everyone with needles, drawing blood for some sort of science experiment,” he said. “Nevermind the Constitution, what about AIDS?”
“What about it?” she asked.
“There's been hundreds, thousands of cases now where people have been infected by giving blood,” he said. “That's a medical fact. Get accused of a crime and AIDS too?"
"It doesn't sound like any of the townspeople there in England got AIDS, darling. Unless there's more to the story, besides what you read to me."
He watched her spread orange marmalade over her burnt toast and take a bite. She had a dead tooth and he saw it every time she opened her mouth. He loved Dee but had never been sexually attracted to her. Not in the way he had been attracted to others.
"It really is just a matter of time before that stuff makes it over here," she said with her mouth full. "To this side of the pond, as they say." She took a sip of his orange juice. "Isn’t that how it always works? Things start over there in England, or in California, and then phht, before you know it, it makes its way to Findlay."
He held his hand over his stomach. She saw him wince.
"Was it my orange juice again? Was it still pulpy? I squeezed it by hand and even strained it twice this time."
"It’s not your fault,” he said. “I think it’s me. Orange juice is getting too… acidic for me." He looked at the clock on the coffee maker. "I'm going to be late."
He turned the page.
He played the 8 o'clock Mass by rote as he had many a bleary-eyed Sunday morning. It was pure muscle memory at this point. He made a few mistakes here and there, missed a key or two, but it was nothing the organ's sustain pedal couldn't mask – not that anyone would complain (not at the 8 o'clock anyway).
On Sundays Ned had four Masses: the 8, the 9:30, the big one at 11, and the 12:30 for the dilettantes who couldn't get their acts together for the 11.
He turned the page.
Today he was using Glory and Praise, AKA "the blue hymnal" for songs he knew by heart.
Turning the pages of his sheet music, reading each note, he was able to keep his mind off it.
Ned abhorred cliches (especially those involving sports) but he made an exception for “Out of sight, out of mind.” For Ned, that wasn’t a cliché; it was a way of life. He was a man who preferred to be heard, not seen, which made St. Bartholomew (or St. Bart’s) the perfect home for him.
In a spectacular architectural oversight, the church's pipe organ was situated so the organist's back was to the altar and pews. The organist of course needs to see what's going on in the Mass to read certain non-verbal cues but the arrangement suited Ned just fine. The congregation was comprised of many young families who had many young children—boys in particular—and it wasn't so much that he couldn't control himself because he was now firmly in control of all that; it was more that he didn't need any reminders of that time when he couldn't.
Especially during church.
So to see the altar behind him, Ned had installed an actual rearview mirror, the type you'd find on an old Buick, and he used a special type of putty to affix it to the mantle of the pipe organ. Having been the church organist at St. Bart's for nine years, he seldom needed it anymore—he could do it in his sleep—but it came in handy today as he found his attention drifting and he nearly missed the oratory refrain at the 9:30 Mass.
His real problems didn't start until the 35-minute break between the 8 and 9:30.
He was reorganizing his sheet music after the first wave of churchgoers had cleared out, when he began thinking about Colin Pitchfork again. The article said he was a baker in England somewhere—did it say he baked cakes or was that Ned's invention?
Even though no picture was provided in the Times article, Ned spent the balance of the 9:30 service picturing the 27- year-old ex-rapist/murderer working in his small English bakery, quietly going about his business, baking his cakes, when the police (Bobbies?) came.
Was he expecting them?
He played the offertory hymn, "On Eagle's Wings," as the ushers began taking up the collections and a family of parishioners he’d never seen before brought the gifts up.
And what was going through Pitchfork's head when he saw the Bobbies there? When they began asking him about rapes and murders that happened almost five years ago? The article said that he had initially given investigators someone else's blood when “the enquiry” began. Had he somehow caught wind of this “DNA Fingerprinting?”
There was a new usher, Ned noticed, in his makeshift rearview mirror.
The Times article said that one of Pitchfork's co-workers at the bakery had taken the blood test masquerading as Pitchfork because Pitchfork had told the co-worker that ‘he could not give blood under his own name because he had already given blood while pretending to be a friend of his who had wanted to avoid being harassed by police because of a youthful conviction for burglary.’ This story was later overheard by a woman in a pub who immediately went to the police.
Ned realized he had missed the homily twice now. Not that it mattered. Heard one you've heard them all and Ned was pretty sure there would be no surprises. Plus, he'd have two more chances to catch it. He knew he would have to really focus for the 11 o'clock. That was always the main event. He was going to play "I Will Raise Him Up," a complex hymn, which required his full attention. He would scratch that one now if he hadn’t read that article and if the Sunday programs hadn't already been printed. People liked that one –it was a real barn burner, as they say—and if he skipped it, there might be questions.
The last thing Ned needed right now were fucking questions.
Who was this new usher, by the way?

By the start of the 11 o'clock Mass, Ned wondered whether anyone would even show for the 12:30, seeing that it was already standing room only. The 11 was always the most popular Mass, but today felt different; it was packed like Christmas Eve. What was the occasion? Was the predominantly conservative town that afraid of Dukakis winning the presidency? Ohio was a swing state after all and that image of the little Greek man in the tank was unnerving, sure, but was it enough to warrant this sort of turnout for the 11 AM Mass at St. Bart's in Findlay?
Or was something else going on?
Ned didn’t believe they had come to hear his rendition of "I Will Raise Him Up."
Or could there be another reason? Maybe they had all read the same Times article. Maybe there had long been simmering suspicion of Ned in the community and maybe the article finally prompted the townspeople to join together and take arms. With pitchforks.
On March 31, 1892, the only known lynching in the history of Hancock County occurred when a mob of 1,000 men, many "respectable citizens," broke into the county jail in Findlay. They lynched Mr. Lytle, a man who had killed his wife and two daughters with a hatchet the day before. The townsfolk hanged the man twice (first from the bridge, then a telegraph pole) and then, in a classic case of overkill, shot his body over a dozen times. The authorities had intended to transfer the prisoner out of town at 1 o'clock in secret, where a train was scheduled to transport him to Lima, but someone talked.
Ned had only confessed what he had done to one person – a priest eight years prior. The priest was set to retire as he was dying of pancreatic cancer and visiting from a nearby parish. For years Ned had heard this priest was “of the old school” – i.e., your word to God’s ear, and it went no further. He was as safe as they come. Still, even then, Ned used the screened side of the Confessional, lowered his voice a full octave, and spoke of what he had done obliquely and in generalities. They were mortal sins. His penance severe: to repent and refrain from repeating the act again. The priest was now long dead. There’s no way he could have tracked Ned down and told anyone. Was there?
The last one was named Derek. That was the only one left unsolved.
He would play "I Will Raise Him Up" during Communion. Because of the crowds, he knew the communion lines would be longer and would thus require him to stretch the already difficult song a few minutes longer. If he was going to supply the masses, he was going to need a bigger yield. In a way it was like baking a cake, wasn't it?
He met Derek at a Dairy Queen in Paducah, Kentucky. It was Labor Day 1976. It must have been 100 degrees out, but it felt even hotter with the humidity. It was a real scorcher.
Derek had a bicycle with an American flag banana seat. It was the summer of Bicentennial Fever. The Dairy Queen was in an area known as Noble Park. It had a tin canopy that kept cars cool in the shade.
Ned missed a note as he turned the page. He stepped on the sustain pedal and his mistake sounded deliberate and beautiful even.
It was early evening; fireflies were out in full force and Ned was blotto. He had been drinking beer—cans of Schlitz—all day at the picnic of a friend (technically, the friend of an acquaintance so basically a stranger). A born introvert who still lived alone (this was pre-Dee), Ned was very drunk and primed for small talk. You must also remember this was a very different time. This was back when you still opened cans with an opener; drunk driving was frowned upon but not the cardinal sin it is today; and a grown man could still park outside a Dairy Queen and strike up an innocent conversation with a prepubescent boy on a bike.
"What da ya' got there?" Ned asked.
"Butterscotch Sundae," the boy said. The boy was blonde with brown eyes.
"Butterscotch, eh?"
The boy licked his plastic spoon and stared somewhere beyond the pea-green 1974 Buick Riviera Ned had inherited from his old man after he had kicked the bucket.
"For the life of me, I can't remember if I like butterscotch or not," Ned said. "That probably sounds pretty screwy, I bet."
"Get a free sample at the window,” the kid said. “They're free."
"Looks awfully busy over there. Mind if I have a taste of yours? I don't have any cooties, I promise."
The kid dragged his spoon over his ice cream as he mulled it over. Maybe seeing that he was almost done with it anyway, he figured what's the harm. He handed Ned the Styrofoam cup.
Ned looked at the boy as he stirred it a little and then placed the curved side of the spoon on his tongue and kept it there.
"I do like butterscotch," Ned said, giving it back. "Thank you for sharing that with me, that was awfully kind of you—say, what is your name?"
"Derek," the boy said.
"Derek. What a nice boy you are. Do you like dogs, Derek?"
"Sure," Derek said.
"Do you have a dog?"
"Not anymore. Used to. We had a beagle named Eleanor but she went blind and then lame and then..."
"What kind of dog was she?" Ned asked.
"A beagle," the boy said.
"A beagle, yes you said that. You like Golden Retrievers?"
"Sure," the boy said.
"Cause I have a Golden Retriever. It's a girl too. A bitch."
Derek smiled.
"She's pregnant. I mean she was. But… she just gave birth."
"To puppies?"
"You betcha. It was just a few weeks ago. She had a whole litter of 'em. Boys, girls. Cutest little pups you've ever seen. The thing is, Derek, I don't know what to do with them all. You're a nice boy. You just shared your Butterscotch Sundae with me and I'd care to return the favor. Would you… like a puppy?"
"How much?"
"For nothing,” Ned said. “For free.”
"You'll give me a puppy for nothing? And I can pick the one I want?"
"Sure can. They're at my place just down the road. Thing is, it's probably too far to bike there. And you're going to need both hands to hold on to the puppy. Hop in, I’ll give you a lift."
"What about my bike?"
"We could put it in the trunk but we're not going to be long. We'll be right back. It'll be safe here. People don't take things that aren’t theirs around here – especially when there's a lot of people around."
He remembered waking up on the floor of his apartment disoriented. He was late for work. He was still working as a salesman at the piano store. There was a big Labor Day sale still going on. Labor Day was always a big day for retail. The owner was a nice man and Ned wanted to call him and apologize but he wasn't sure what to say yet.
He hadn't planned on sleeping in. Forgetting work on Labor Day. The irony.
He saw the boy's underwear on his floor. They were tighty-whities from Fruit of the Loom. He thought of that every time he saw an ad for that company afterward.
They weren’t bloody but they were torn.
He remembered the sound of the filter on the aquarium he used to keep in his apartment. It was noisy but sometimes that was a good thing. He was very into Japanese Fighting Fish for a while until it became too expensive as they always killed each other.
There were no puppies obviously.
His apartment did not allow dogs.
His sense of disorientation and the ensuing panic prevented him from experiencing any of the usual remorse he felt afterward.
There would be plenty of time for that later.
The boy's body was in the bathroom just off the bedroom and he needed to get rid of it. He needed to get out of town. Out of Paducah. Out of Kentucky.
He placed the boy in a hardshell Samsonite suitcase, carried it out of his apartment, walked down the one flight of steps. He saw no one and he was confident no one had seen him. The suitcase was lighter than it should have been—a detail he never forgot—and he walked out to the carport where he saw his Riviera parked sloppily between the lines. He felt a wave of nausea come over him but he suppressed it. He opened his trunk, placed the suitcase in the back, and then looked around the apartment complex before walking back inside. He cleaned up with bleach. Showered. Hit the road.
There were no police gathered outside the Dairy Queen. It wasn’t a crime scene. He didn't look to see if the boy’s bike was still there; he didn’t want to appear suspicious.
He needed to get out of Paducah so he headed toward the freeway.
For a moment he briefly considered the Shawnee National Forest, which was to the north, but he stuck to his gut and took the newly-constructed Interstate 24 East toward Tennessee. Aside from getting out of Kentucky, he didn't have a plan. The asphalt was brand new and at times he felt as though he were floating across the highway. It took about two hours to get to the state line and once he was over, he filled up at a 76 Station in Clarksville, Tennessee. Only when he was filling his tank and had a moment to reflect, did he think about what was in the trunk. He imagined he had Superman's X-Ray vision and pictured the suitcase in the back, the boy's tiny body folded like a pretzel inside.
He missed both the readings, the Gospel, and the homily again. Then came the Consecration which was over before he knew it. It was time. He began to play "I Will Raise Him Up." In his rearview, he saw the communion lines forming and he thought he caught a glimpse of the new usher staring at him, but he couldn't be sure. He needed to concentrate on the song. People knew this one; people wanted to hear it exactly as they remembered it, and it was a full house, so the sustain pedal wouldn't save him this time.
Once he made it through the chorus, he knew he could relax a little.
The "DNA fingerprinting" in Pitchfork's case came from semen that was left inside of the victims.
Ned had made it to the outskirts of Nashville faster than he expected. He still hadn't checked in with Mr. Cory, the owner of the piano store. He desperately needed an alibi. Old Mr. Cory could probably send Ned to the electric chair if he wasn't careful.
He got on Highway 386 and headed north. After 20 minutes, he exited in Gallatin and drove around until he found an area he thought was remote. There was a road called Cages Bend.
He liked the sound of that.
It sounded hopeful.
He took that until he came to a gravel road, which looked as if it led to an even more secluded wooded area.
In the rearview, he remembered the cloud of dust kicked up by the tires of the Riviera he had inherited from his father, the drunk, who had done to him what he had gone on to do to others.
In the rearview, the communion lines were still going strong. No sign of that new usher.
He came upon a bend in the road that looked totally secluded, as if no one had been there in years. He cut the engine and listened for a moment. The invisible cicadas high up in the trees made it sound as if a giant rattle snake was slithering around him, preparing to strike. He got out of the car.
He didn't know if it was the trees or the fields of tall grass, but something smelled like semen.
He opened the trunk with his keys and pulled out the hardshell suitcase. When he closed the trunk there was a rustling in the tall grass but when he looked, he saw only a herd of white tail deer scattering.
Initially he had planned on dumping the body and taking the suitcase home with him. He didn't think to bring a shovel. Then he heard the sound of a bush hog—a piece of farm equipment with spinning blades that cut vegetation and cleared the land. He couldn't tell which direction it was coming from. He checked to make sure his suitcase didn't have any labels on it or name tags. He then two black trash bags in his back seat and wrapped the suitcase – one bag around the top, the other on the bottom, and secured it with masking tape. Then he carried it into the woods and set it down in some brush. He began snapping tree branches off to make cover but as the bush hog got louder and closer he panicked, leaving it only partially covered.
The communion lines had dissipated. Everyone was sitting now, even the priest.
Everyone always knelt until the priest sat and Ned should never be playing if the priest was sitting but somehow, Ned had missed his cue.
He concluded "I Will Raise Him Up" softly, using the sustain to ease himself out.
He looked in the rearview and saw the priest staring at him.
As was the rest of the congregation.
They would all be coming for him soon enough.
Unless he could make it back down to Tennessee and get rid of that thing once and for all – assuming it hadn’t been found yet.
Somehow, deep down, Ned always knew it was going to happen.
He was raised up, alright.
Now it was just a matter of time.

2024.05.29 02:56 Grand_Distribution83 Does quitting for a career break (burnout / personal issues) help?

I've been a software engineer at FAANG for 2.5 years total, and I can't cut it anymore. Due to some personal issues, I've been performing below average for almost a year now. After some tough conversations with my manager, it's clear that I can't cut it for much longer I want to quit without something new lined up, for a career break. I took medical leave already, and came back and started doing well, before things started going downhill again. (This was expected).
Did anyone take a career break (due to performance / mental well being issues) and successfully return to work (perhaps at a different company)? What were the consequences? I'm aware that I likely can't get hired at the same company again, which is why I stuck it out for so long -- but my position is not getting better by sticking it out, it's getting worse. So I don't feel I have much of a choice.
Some details: A) My financial situation is good due to savings + family + good luck on the stock markets. (I'm early 30s, no dependents).
B) Quiet-quitting or coasting it out til layoffs would likely burn my mental health and delay my growth, I'm not excited about this option.
C) I have a decent resume (2.5 years FAANG, 1 year startup, PhD in computer science) but my skills are closer to a 1 year FAANG engineer. I don't doubt my ability to get interviews, but I doubt I can perform well at a job during this time.
D) The main concern I have is whether taking a break for personal issues actually helps, or not. And what the risk for perpetual unemployment from this path is. I have a number of friends who are "perpetually unemployed", and this terrifies me.
E) I really would've liked to cut it at research positions at the current company, but that wasn't possible due to various personal and family issues over the last 3 years. That's one reason quitting with bad performance was so hard.... it means my chances of getting into research positions at this company in the future is close to zero.

2024.05.29 02:49 WelfarePrincess Update: Successfully Challenged My 'Ineligible - Not Referred' Status. You Should Too!

Hello usajobs and fednews communities,
A few weeks back, I shared my experience challenging an initial ineligibility determination for a GS-14 role I applied for. Today, I’m excited to update you all that out of 90 applicants (according to USAJobs), I was selected for the position!
Despite being a current GS-14 with substantial specialized experience, I was initially deemed ‘Ineligible - Not referred’. Genuinely surprised and disappointed by the determination, I requested a reconsideration, detailing the qualifications from my resume in an email to the agency’s HR mailbox — the address for which was included in the determination notice. My application was quickly re-evaluated and I was referred to the hiring manager.
During all 2.5 interviews, the panelists were very enthusiastic about my experience. They proactively discussed aspects of my resume before I even brought them up, emphasizing how well my background aligned with their needs.
This journey has reinforced for me the importance of advocating for oneself. Although requesting a reconsideration may not always change the outcome—as some of you have experienced—it's absolutely worth a try if you strongly believe your qualifications have been overlooked. Remember, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!
Thank you to this community for the support, encouragement, and for sharing your own stories, both successful and not.
Best of luck to all of you!
