Season of Nesting Updates for 0.25.5

Hey everyone! It looks like you’ve been pretty busy setting up your Nests, so we wanted to share a quick update about the Season and related Nesting features, and what will be coming for it in the 0.25.5 update.
First, we have to say up front that it’s been a blast to see all the Nests you’ve been creating—honestly we’ve lost count of how many pictures we’ve posted on our team Slack channels of all the cool designs that you’ve been sharing with the community.
We’ve also been following your feedback about your experience with the Season so far, so the team wanted to share some insights about what’s coming up with the Season, your Nests, and the Nesting Challenge Board in the upcoming 0.25.5 update, and some of the long-term conversation around these for the future beyond the end of the Season.

What’s coming up for the Season in 0.25.5?

Well, here are a few improvements based on feedback you’ve shared with us.
Nests look too dark at night: We’ve adjusted the lighting to address that feedback, so your Nest should be a little bit easier to see when the stars are out.
Excessive bloom in dark areas: We got your reports about that too, and the update will have fixes to tone that down.
Items to unlock for currency in the Nesting Workshop were simultaneously featured to use in your Nest: Our apologies for that confusion! The items that are both in the Nesting Workshop lineup and featured in your Nest have been temporarily removed from the Nesting Workshop rotation until we can better clarify their availability. (We made the rotation change independent of the 0.25.5 release, so that’s already in effect. Meanwhile, the fix for making these items available in a clearer way will come at a later date, so we’ll keep you posted!)
Will the Heart rewards in the Nesting Guide’s Challenge Board remain free after the Season ends? Answer: yep! The Challenge Board isn’t limited to just the Season of Nesting, so the challenges and the rewards will remain available to complete and unlock at your own pace long after the Season is over. In 0.25.5, we’ll remove the timer that appears with the Challenge Board to make that clearer. We’ve also seen some folks ask about the Nesting Guide and what some of the story is with them. That’s a fair question, which we hope the upcoming Seasonal Quests can help answer.

Also in the Works

One thing we know: Sky kids should be cuter when they sit on furniture. The animation team has made this a reality, so once 0.25.5 comes, Sky kids will properly curl up, stretch out, and lounge on their favorite furniture.
We’re also including a feature that we’re hoping will spark inspiration for everyone—a toggle to view other Nests. It’s similar to the function that allows you to see a range of Shared Spaces when you’re at a Shared Space Shrine.
You’ll be able to “scroll” through a preview that favors your friends’ Nests while also showing Nests of other Sky children too. It’s just a preview, though, so you won’t see anyone in this view, and they won’t see anyone who might be viewing their Nest through this toggle either. It’s also not a Player Creation toggle, so it won’t include an option to send Hearts.
What you’ll see in the 0.25.5 update is the first version of this view feature. We want to use your feedback as we keep building on it, so once the next patch goes live and you get a chance to try it out, let us know what you think in the #live-feedback channel on our Discord server!

Other Nesting Ideas

The community has been really creative both with making some amazing Nests, and with sharing some great ideas and suggestions too. We wanted to touch on a few of those real quick. A couple suggestions we’ve seen is to add ways to specify how many of an item you want to get from the Nesting Workshop, and to add “save slots” so that you could have a couple different versions of your decorated Nest. We’ve also seen some players wanting to make their Nest a third option for a loading point in the game, alongside Home and Aviary Village.
First of all, we love that you’ve liked your Nest so much that you want it to be your “home base” in the game! We’ll be exploring what might be possible with these suggestions. Some of them would require developing additional tech that we don’t have right now, and there would be a lot of other design questions to answer first before we’d know if we could make Nests a loading point, so we can’t make any promises. Still, we’re looking into what might be possible!
There’s plenty of other stuff in the 0.25.5 update that won’t fit into this post (Days of Nature and Days of Color, anyone?), but we wanted to share at least a little bit of what’s coming in the second half of the Season. We can’t wait for everyone to try out the new quests and features and to hear your feedback about it. See you in the skies!

The "How do I get my players to engage in my campaign lore?" question is quite often in this and many other TTRPG discussion spaces. For a time this was even a foreign concept to me because It has allways been the only kind of way to play TTRPGs. We were all teenagers, books were expensive and hard to find and there was no internet, so we got the Basic rulebook (sometimes a photocopied one) and create our worlds from scratch or on the go. Most of my friends who were players back in the 90s and 2000 played that way. So I really came back to TTRPGs during the pandemic and became very self-aware and self-critic in my 30s - so I decided to only run published Settings and adventures. And I've been having quite a lot of fun. I've run games on the oficial Pathfinder Setting Golation, Warhammer Fantasy, 40k, Coriolis, Symbaroum and even played a bit of Forgotten Realms and Mystara.
Now I've decided that is time to ressurect my 14yo excited teenager and make a campaign setting of my own inspired by the things I like. So I just want to reframe the question about Your homebrew worlds:

Howdy l've been role-playing and writing in general forat least a decade. I am a Male who can play male and female characters. I have original ideas all over and a lot of Fandoms I'm in, which I'Il include below. I'm looking for OCXOC. Every character must be 18+ I have plenty of original characters and ideas along with fandom plots.
For original ideas, i like horror and apocalypse with action and depending romance. I do have a variety. I really like monsters and creepy things from the horror genre like vampires and Tentacles, and l even have my own idea set up in modern times dealing with vampires and hunters and all of that i also enjoy eldritch type horror. I also like old-school slasher films and space sci-fi horror similar to the Alien Franchise.
Now on fandoms! To get some other things down, l only play OC. The anime fandoms i like are Jojo's, Chainsaw Man, Naruto, JJK, Soul Eater, and more. I'm well versed in the Jojo's, Naruto, and JJK, and soul eater fandoms, though it's been a while since ï've stopped keeping up with soul eater. Other fandoms im in include Percy Jackson, Call of Duty, Marvel, and DC.
I tend to use character sheets to describe my character. These are very thorough and usually consist of names, backgrounds, and personalities, along with an in-depth look on appearance. More so on appearances, I don't usually use picture references, but I will if you would like me to. The types of characters I write are the lone wolf type that has some sad past, which leads them to potentially go off the rails and gain a villain arc.
I like all types of tropes, especially enemies to lovers or rivalry. I also really enjoy opposites attracted as a whole from either opposite personality or something else they would be opposites in. Enemies to lovers takes my heart, though. I love seeing the characters go past theurge to ultimately hate each other and/or go past their usual way of disliking the others' lineage or upcoming I also love good written trauma moments.
Like character death's, moments of pain and strife only to see the characters to deal and either be consumed or overcome them. I tend to either come up with original ideas for these scenes or use anime scenes as inspiration with narrative tweaks.
REQUIREMENT
I think my two biggest requirements are creativity and good pacing. Like any story, I feel these two things are very necessary to make a good story. Now, by Creativity, I don't mean you need to bring absolute craziness into the story, but abilities, character etc need to have some good genuine thought put into them. Along with that comes good pacing, which means I don't personally care about response length, and mine will vary from scene to scene accordingly.

Made a throwaway for this because I'm sharing some of my own personal info and I don't want it tied to my main account. TL;DR is at the end!
I've been getting pretty burnt out and jaded from my profession and I'm considering making a career switch towards psychology/therapy. I did my undergrad in kinesiology with a minor in psychology and some of my favorite classes were the psychology ones. I was absolutely fascinated by how our minds worked and how much we still don't know. I've also always been a very sensitive person who enjoys deeper conversations with people and I've been told tons of times that I'd make a great therapist by friends because of this. I used to shrug this off or even sometimes get annoyed by it, but I'm thinking now maybe it's just a sign that I could be the type of person for this sort of work. I read tons of psychology-related books and constantly listen to podcasts on the topic, it really is fascinating to me and very helpful for me personally with my own mental health. I feel like the career change would more closely align my profession with what I find personally fulfilling and interesting.
Since graduating college in 2013, I've been working in public health research, social work, education, and healthcare fields all as either a research assistant, business analyst, and more recently data analyst type role. Currently I'm a Sr Analytics Engineer. I make solid money and likely wouldn't get back to my current salary for a while after the career switch. I've mostly made peace with that as long as I'm still making enough to contribute decently to savings each month and provide for a kid or two in the future.
But one of my biggest hesitations with this idea is how my own mental health would fare as a therapist and if/how it would interfere with my ability to be a good therapist. I have my own mental health journey and sometimes things get quite hard, and I can't imagine being able to support someone through the deepest darkest aspects of their lives when I'm in that place. I've spent a lot of my childhood parentified and it's sometimes hard for me to keep my own codependency in check. I tell myself this would get easier with the training I'd get going back to school as well as practice and continuing to work on myself, but it's hard to feel confident in that. I know a solid amount of people become therapists after being inspired from their own experiences as the therapy recipient and are still working through a lot themselves. How do you all do it?? I've considered maybe looking into a PhD in psychology so I could lean more into research or teaching or something if I find providing therapy to be too taxing. It's obviously a bigger commitment but the options feel appealing.
TL;Dsummary: I'm considering the possibility of making a career change towards therapy and/or psychology research, but I have my own mental health struggles and I worry about my ability to not get too invested in my clients' lives/outcomes, as well as how my mental health would be impacted by the job and how my ability to do the job would be impacted by my mental health. I'd love to hear from actual therapists to understand how you navigate these issues and if you have any advice!

Poet, journalist, literary critic, editor, publisher, translator and Victorian-extraordinaire, Henley, was a good friend to Robert Louis Stevenson, who he inspired to write the character "Long John Silver" in Treasure Island. Stevenson, writing to Henley-" I will now make a confession: It was the sight of your maimed strength and masterfulness that begot Long John Silver ... the idea of the maimed man, ruling and dreaded by the sound, was entirely taken from you". The friendship was a tumultuous and long one.
Henley's sickly daughter, Margaret, was the inspiration of "Wendy" in J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. She would not live long past her 5th birthday, the only child Henley had with his wife, Hannah "Anna" Johnston Boyle. Tragedy had long painted his life even before this sad event. He was diagnosed with a rare form of tuberculosis at age 12, that affected his bones. His left leg had to be amputated below the knee when Henley was a young man, and he was often in the hospital with various abscesses that need to be drained. Frequent illness kept him out of school and interrupted his professional work. Henley eventually sought out the advice of Joseph Lister, who was pioneering new techniques, including antiseptic operating conditions and doing groundbreaking research on wounds, when his right foot become affected by the tuberculosis. Still, his ill-health did not keep him from practicing his art. While Lister kept him under observation at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, from 1873-75, Henly wrote and published a collection of poems, which include today's selection, In Hospital (1903). This collection of poems is notable also because it was one of the earliest examples of free verse in English poetry. Henley and others in his group became known as the "Henley Regatta" for their championing of realism, such as the poor working conditions in the Victorian underbelly, in opposition to the Decadent movement in France and the Aesthetic movement closer to home. This would be the last collection of poetry and the most impactful of his work; his death would follow later that year. Unfortunately, a fall from a carriage reawakened the latent tuberculosis hiding inside him, which carried him off age 53. He was buried next to his daughter, in Cockaney Hatley, Bedfordshire. His wife would later also be buried alongside her family.
His legacy is one that is both inspiring and rather dispiriting. His poetry was used for jingoistic and imperialist causes, and to champion war, though much of it was about personal striving and inner resolve-the mythical "Stiff Upper Lip" of the Victorian era. This led to push back in the literary world, as D.H. Lawrence's short story, "England, My England and Other Stories" took flight from one of the lines from "Pro Rege Nostro", which is more patriotic than his usual work. Admittedly, he counted himself as a conservative and supported the imperial effort, as much of Victorian society did at this time. Still, his work fell into obscurity, with the main exception of "Invictus"-Latin for "unconquered". It is well known that Nelson Mandela recited this poem to his fellow inmates in Robben Island as a reminder to stay strong and keep one's dignity. There are also, of course, the Invictus Games, which are held for injured and sick service men and women and veterans in the UK.

I was talking to a non-virgin friend recently and the idea of what virginity means came up. They suggested (in a non-hostile way) that my views of virginity were religiously inspired. That's the furthest from the truth--though I was raised in a religious household it wasn't the typical American or Abrahamic household. I wasn't taught that sex was dirty or exclusively for reproduction, only that one must be responsible in how they engage in casual sex. There wasn't any expectation that I save sex for marriage, my parents just wanted me to save sex until I was an adult. And after a certain age, I realized that my family just assumed I was having sex and were totally okay with that!
For me, virginity isn't about ritual purity, it's about being an outsider of a wider sexual community. This community isn't straight or queer but both simultaneously. This is the domain of life where all our ideas about sex and sexual practice transpires. Within this community, each individual is imagined as holding a normative view of sex itself--they're actively engaged in sexual relationships or seeking them out.
Being disinterested in sex is a fickle concept in this community. Modern sexual orientation discourse has opened people up to the idea of being asexual in orientation, but that's basically the only way it's considered acceptable to be disinterested in sex (and only among queer people in this sex community). Religion used to be a dimension of refuge for virgins, but religious virgins were always imagined as suppressing their normative desire for sex. As the community shifts towarsds sex positivity, such suppression is considered ultimately harmful for the individual, and therefore unacceptable.
The sexually dysfunctional, the sexually rejected, the sexually disinterested, and the late life virgins aren't meaningfully considered in our discourses about sex and sexuality. When virgins are imagined, they're commonly imagined in the Born Sexy Yesterday Trope--simultaneously nubile but also supposedly capable of effectively performing 'basic' sex relative to their gender and orientation. But basic sex itself has a culturally informed, fluid definition (consider the shifting social ideas surrounding oral and digital sex, for example). Basic sex is Common Sense in that it's imagined as inherent to all people, with only fools or children needing it explained, and absolutely no reasonable person needing it accommodated.
For me, being a virgin means that for whatever reason, you're excluded from the community of sex. We're non-citizens. Some of us hold non-citizenship and exist outside the city walls entirely--those are the identifying Asexuals, and anyone deemed by common consensus to be deficient. But some of us are resident non-citizens--we're the so-called 'normal, okay-looking' virgins who lack the obvious social markers of inadequacy. People assume we're sexual citizens the same way people assume the ethnically similar person on the bus next to them is a citizen of their country, because non-citizenship is imagined as a quality of the social Other.
The non-resident, non-citizen may look at resident citizens and think they have it easy because they're not viewed as an Other. In truth, this sameness has little meaningful benefits. Just as resident non-citizens often cannot vote, the 'normal' virgin has little recourse in shifting social conditions or maneuvering the sexual landscape to improve their experiences. This is a society arranged by and for Sexual Citizens. Queer or Straight, only those actively engaged with sex are allowed meaningful commentary on sexuality, sex culture and sex politics.
The exclusion of the virgin from sexual discourse is additionally responded to with the same logic underlying the exclusion of the non-citizen from politics; it doesn't affect them so they don't get a say. If they want a say, they should become citizens (a process which is necessarily difficult to prevent undesirables from entering the community). Realistically, we know that politics often affect more than just a state's citizens--resident non-citizens pay taxes and must adhere to state laws, non-residents often find conditions in their own lives are directly tied to the practices of a foreign state through complex economic and political systems. For virgins, we're imagined as unaffected by sex culture even though sex culture affects our romantic and other social relationships, as sex culture defines for us our perceived social value.
This concept of virginity as sexual non-citizenship status doesn't reject the idea that religion, patriarchy, or other social systems and institutions shape ideas of virginity. Rather, I argue that religion shapes how the virgin is imagined from within the sex community. Religion makes virgins sacred, sexual liberation questions if virgins are 'repressed', patriarchy imagines male virgins as incomplete/failed men, patriarchal feminism imagines this failure as sexism, etc. There is no relevant ideology of virginity in and of itself because virgins are not considered relevant sources on sexual politics.
My being a virgin has nothing to do with religion, seeing myself as pure, or repression. It has everything to do with recognizing that there is an entire aspect of life that I'm excluded from. My non-virgin friends don't understand my calling myself a virgin, using this subreddit, or pointing out how their commentary on virgins affects me. For them, my virginity is a temporary status that will change once I'm naturalized as a full sexual citizen by first engaging in Basic Sex. There's no reason I should see my experiences as in any way related to incels or other adult virgins. I disagree wholeheartedly, because no matter how much non-virgins say I'm one of them, I know I'm not. If I were, then my views on sex would be taken as seriously as any sexually active persons, and I wouldn't have to turn to other virgins to find commonality of experience and outlook.

A very good friend of mine is a very religious Muslim. He told me that he believes if you value something and believe it is something worth preserving you should study the history of how those things die. He told me he believes that in the USA Christianity has not died so much as it has become hollow. The more I think about it the more I think he is right. In the USA atheists do better on basic christianity knowledge tests then Christians do. This is unsurprising when you find out that only 28% of Christians say the regularly study the bible for direction. More than four-in-ten Catholics in the United States (45%) do not know that their church teaches that the bread and wine used in Communion do not merely symbolize but actually become the body and blood of Christ. About half of Protestants (53%) cannot correctly identify Martin Luther as the person whose writings and actions inspired the Protestant Reformation, which made their religion a separate branch of Christianity. When you look at the numbers the conclusion seems to be that most Christians don't know the basics of their own religion, don't spend very much time learning about their religion, don't look to the bible for direction, and know less about the bible then atheists. a lot of Christians spend a lot of time complaining about how colleges are indoctrinating their kids and leading them away from god. My response is what did you expect to happen when you never instilled any value of religion in your children, never bothered to teach them the basics of Christianity, and sent them out into the world. They most likely don't even know as much about their religion as the people trying to talk them out of it no wonder their minds are so easy to change. I wish Christianity was a stock because the ROI I would get on shorting it would be insane. I am not even christian so from an outsiders perspective it baffles me how people could care so little for something that if true would be the most important thing in anybody's life.

This first part has almost nothing to do with HTB. So I went to my usual dispensary (in AZ) yesterday to reup, I noticed the dude tending to my flowers had both a Ghostbusters flare pin on his keychain neck strap thing, and a hand tattoo that looked like two ghosts. I asked him if they were from GB but he said no, explaining something about how they were from something his nieces liked or something, and how they were cover ups covering a weed leaf and skull or something, which i guess at some point he regretted the weed leaf thinking maybe it would prevent him from getting a job, even though now he works at a dispensary so he should have just kept it, i don't know.
Anyways, I don't even know how the conversation transitioned to this, but next thing I know he's telling me about how he grew up 2 doors down from the kid actor who played DJ in the show Roseanne. I was like holy shit I fucking loved that show growing up. He's still friends with him and at some point through this friend connection he got to meet Paul Reuben, I had never been so jealous of someone in my entire life. I don't remember how this came up but he also mentioned something about Lake Forest, which immediately made me think of HTB cause the only time I have ever heard of that place is from reading HTB's wiki.
I also noticed on his other hand he had the number 1981 tattooed on his fingers, which I figured was his birth year cause he looked about that age. When I got home I wiki searched Michael Fishman and it turns out that is his birth year too, so weed store man's story was legit.
2nd Rant. I've gone down this thought trail before about how HTB probably would never have developed in any other city on Earth, and I think it has something to do with the ocean. Years ago I read a theory about how throughout human history the center of power has been continuously shifting westward. Initially Asia was the greatest power on Earth, then it shifted to Europe, eventually North America became the greatest power, and according to this theory the power will eventually shift again over to Asia.
Well I'm not sure how that applies to music and movies, obviously California has been the central hub for most of our music and movies, although NYC has alot going on in entertainment, and Nashville has its own thing going on with music. And obviously Japan leads the way with video games, and Hollywood probably steals alot more ideas from Japan than I'm aware of besides just Godzilla and Power Rangers. And everyone knows British television sucks, ugh I hate Ricky Gervais and his stupid face that dude is not funny, although Mr Bean is very legit. And the only great things Canada has ever produced was Hockey, Trailer Park Boys, and Gary Lachance.
Gary has actually been a big inspiration for me, I once semi-developed an app based on his idea of Decentralized Dance Parties, but my app kinda went nowhere and turned into other things. Lately I've been obsessed on the idea of trying to transform Phoenix into the next Hollywood/Vegas/NYC or whatever, but all the rich people here are fucking retards who pat themselves on the back for doing literally next to nothing, and they all ignore my ideas on things we should be building and whatnot. I've been working on some ideas that I hope will unify and grow our music and comedy scenes here, but I'm not trying to use HTB's platform to promote my bullshit, so whatever I guess.

4. Deleted Beach Video: This 3 min 19 sec clip contained many of her famous catchphrases. (She removed the video in less than 10 min.) Kylea was unable to walk and talk without becoming and staying short of breath. That is abnormal for someone who claims to have walked daily for almost 3 years. 🤔
   

She is proud of herself for the "courage" it took to book a cheap flight because life is short. I think the Missouri Courts and hospital system would be proud of her if she paid her medical judgments instead.

"Domestic Violence is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship... False allegations are dangerous, and I walk a fine line in these recaps. We are to the point, I felt the need to provide a domestic violence resource and say this: I feel it is inappropriate for Kylea to repeatedly produce monetized content where "Joe" appears to make posts under her account and name. Furthermore, it is not okay to influence 138k+ followers to emasculate their partner, treat them like a servant, imply you control access to preferred foods, and shared finances in your absence. Concern is growing. This type of monetized content is triggering for victims of intimate partner violence and needs to end. ☮️

1. Slurpees at 7-Eleven: Kylea claims she remembers her 1st Slurpee from when she was 3-4 years of age. Debate erupts when Kylea claims her 32oz Fanta Dragon Fruit Slurpee is zero sugar, and a wise follower informs her it has "about 36 grams of carbs and almost 800mg of sodium." Kylea argues with this woman and eventually deletes the post instead of issuing a statement with the proper nutrition information. I feel that Kylea does not understand the basics of carbs vs. sugar. Influencing followers with complex medical conditions to drink a 32-oz Slurpee is inappropriate without a disclaimer.
