My grandma was hospitalized a week ago due to getting a UTI. She is now in rehab. At this moment I would say she is at the moderate trending toward severe level of dementia. Right before we called 911 to get to the hospital she stopped feeding herself and was acting lucid.
The DR at the hospital said that a UTI would do that. Now that she is in rehab and she is being taken care of 24/7. Before that I was checking in on her daily as her only relative that cares.
It's clear to me that she shouldn't live alone any more. She is now forgetting to change her depends and feed herself. I have been visiting her at the rehab facility and she keeps begging me to take her home. I'm her ONLY help. I have a full-time job and I'm 33 and want to start a family soon. I feel selfish saying this but I would have to put all my future plans aside to be her full-time care taker and I'm not sure that is something I want to do.
As much as I feel guilty about it, I can't give her the 24/7 care I feel she needs now. I'm her POA and in charge of everything so I can make any decisions without a fight from any estranged family members who may try and take advantage.
I'm waiting to talk with the social worker at the rehab but I have this gut feeling that being home with an aide all day isn't going to be enough. I just feel awful saying to her that she can't go home. She thinks she is fine. She doesn't even remember how she ended up in the hospital. She said I quote " I can lay around this like at home I don't need the hospital".
This is awful. This disease is a monster. My grandma who used to drive from NY to PA all by herself can't even remember that she ate dinner an hour ago. I try to remain positive that I have had her in my life for 33 years and I have the honor of helping her like she helped me throughout my life, but she doesn't deserve this and I feel bad not doing more...but I just can't. I lost my mom to suicide (my grandma's daughter) about 9 years ago and I suffer from ptsd and anxiety. I'm trying my best to be strong for my grandma but I need help. I can't do it all alone. Knowing that she is slowly dying on the inside is triggering past trauma of losing my mom. I lost my mom suddenly...now I'm losing my grandma slowly. Idk what's worse.

Skills:

• Knows many melee weapon combat forms and has a lot of fist-fighting experience. After training and fighting in missions in a military unit for 3 years after graduation, he has learned to fight like a commando.

Personality: Rogert is a loner who was given the job of a leader despite not wanting it. He became more comfortable in the role over the years yet deep down never truly believed he should be a leader.
While a humble person, Roth has no illusions of his strengths and how powerful he can be when in battle.
Roth values loyalty and honesty, things he has shown to his team by having no secrets from them and has encouraged his team to do the same with great effect. Because of his values in honesty, Rogert does not forgive attempts to lie to him and tries to limit his words to be as truthful as possible.
Roth has a ruthless attitude when it comes to leadership and dealing with enemies. As a leader, Roth expects nothing but competence and giving 100% in combination with a firm chain of command and on-the-spot obedience.
Roth is a strong believer in learning and improving skills. Because of this, Roth has learned from his teammates the skills he lacked before meeting them and has instructed them to do the same.
Desiring always to have the upper hand, he learned to keep his emotions in check at all times and focused on his studies in his free time and school time. Other people often consider him emotionless, yet no one is willing to say it in his earshot, and he doesn´t mind this thought about him.
Rogert has mastered his emotions, and he can make decisions that would make other people disgusted with themselves be it torture or cruel punishments without flinching as he got older. While his team reminds him about his better nature and while his actions have never been directed against an innocent, Rogert believes he can´t afford to hesitate to act when many lives are at stake.
His team, REPR, has helped him loosen up, and he discovered his liking for playing the saxophone and driving. His team has helped him to become a better man than he thinks he needs to be as the years went by.
Facts about the character:

• Rogert prefers to be called Roth because the name is easier to pronounce, and he prefers a shorter name.
• Rogert put the team to vote during graduation on whether they should stick together as a group. Ultimately, the team was split up, yet REPR occasionally would help each other on big operations. He voted No, yet never said why, even when asked.
• Roth´s closest relationships are with his parents, Elena and Raina, and he thinks highly of Doctor Bartholomew Oobleck due to his teaching and wisdom.
• Intended to be a counter for Elm, an Ace Operative.

Extra skills:

• Scholar: His lack of social interaction in his school years made Rogert focus more on his studies than on making friends. Due to this, he has gained a lot of knowledge and an interest in researching history and myths. Math skills and history were his best subjects, and he often likes to talk about both when asked.

Hey I am quite new to SEO ~1 year. I am a working student and got a new job for a company.. I noticed that their websites score on Sistrix decreased in the past 5 years (also going from 35k top 10 Keywords to less than 2k within 3 months in August 2023.) I couldn´t figure out why this may happen until I compared it with their other website, which is a complete copy of the main one to test stuff (???) and the other website increased in visibility during that time and also gained the keyword rankings.
Why did google decide to favor the other website, which has not that many backlinks nor the sales as the original website? And both exist for over 10 years. How can we deal with this situation? Using canonical tags on the test-website?
Edit: I want to do my best to deal with this situation because I feel like this could help me for new references later in life / working on my own projects / if successful maybe getting rise in money :D

I saw this take on a YouTube channel originally where a guy goes to Chicago and NYC to see what’s happening with the migrant crisis and I started playing with the idea in my head.
I am not polarized to a certain party and like to think I keep a relatively open mind so I’m curious what people have to say about this. Here are my thoughts…

1. It’s the federal governments job to control the border, and since they’re not doing anything about it, Texas started Operation Lone Star as an FU to the federal government and took the responsibility upon themselves. The federal government has turned around and sued the state of Texas for this. In my mind, if the democrats had any intention to control the border but maybe they couldn’t agree on a plan or get the funding, they should be praising Texas for taking care of it. But they’re not which tells me they’re trying to stop them.
   
2. They send migrants to either Denver, Chicago or NYC all extremely blue cities. Not 100% sure about NYC or Denver, but I know Chicago has the “Link” card and provides individual migrants with $1000 a month or families up to $10k a month (depending on number of children). Serious incentives for migrants to come there.
   
3. Originally I thought the take was that the migrants would be able to vote. Did some research and this is NOT the case, BUT the census includes all people in it (citizens and noncitizens) and the electoral vote count is based on the census. Therefore, the influx of migrants in these blue states will cause the states to get more electoral college votes.
   

We can sit here an argue that maybe the democrats are just trying to do the “right thing” and maybe that’s true but I refuse to believe this wasn’t on their minds.
I am NOT arguing foagainst the morality of immigration in this post.
EDIT: The counter argument that the census is done every 10 years and the 2024 and 2028 will be based on the 2020 census (ignoring the influx of immigrants in the past few years) pretty much shoots down my argument. I’m willing to be wrong and I’m wrong where. I didn’t have all the info, and was genuinely trying to start a convo, but naturally, people get nasty.

I am currently working as a full time employee hired through a third party company in the UK for an international company. My boss has said he is restructuring the company and that he wants to change my contract type from EOR to contractor.
He has sent a letter of resignation on my behalf to the third party company which requires my signature. I do no want to change my contract type and I have not seen a new contract so am currently refusing to sign this.
I do not believe that my boss has any intention of rehiring me as he has mistreated a lot of my colleagues (withholding pay from contractors, and doing something similar to another colleague who used to also be EOR) or if he does I do not think that I will get the same pay and benefits etc.
I have been employed for less than 2 years currently.
Obviously, I am currently working to get a new job ASAP. I feel that I am in a precarious position as he could just fire me instead if I refuse for too long and I do still need the job to pay my bills. Beyond this what are my legal options here?

I think this sub's a bit divided on if they like the consolidation and skill floor raising, or hate the simplification and skill ceiling lowering, but might as well make a topic on it. Personally? Trying to keep myself to the positive sides of things though I get it. Anyway let's jump on in.
BLM
Seems like they're attempting to destroy weirdo rotations. They want F4F4F4 Paradox F4F4F4 Despair Despacito, assuming the numbers work out that way (I mean hey they didn't for Paradox which at first glance seemed to be an attempt to force some rules in place).
Seems Paradox is always instacast now? This if true is most likely the largest skill floor raise of them all as dropping your AF would now require a hundred blunders instead of only a couple.
Also seems they want Convert to be streamlined into Flare Flare Despacito, assuming that's not a Job Trailer jank stupid rotation (personally I assume that Despair will not give 3 stacks so as to enforce their rotation).
Leylines can be brought to you. It is what it is.
Doesn't seem to me like they really fucked with Thunder that much if any. I imagine a lot of us were assuming that'd be a prime big game flow change potential, guess they're saving that for later or are extremely happy with how it works now (which is fair).
Since BLM seemed to attract a good portion of players who want a more difficult/reactive class (at least on reddit) I can see some of these changes being pretty negative. Personally I don't mind, but I guess I'm a dumb dumb. I think even the least practiced of BLMs will at the least be able to consistently get "the rotation" out so the major differences will probably be Leylines and APM usage.
RDM
The only really notable changes I'm seeing are ...
Manafication seems to act like a "123 Ready" button now with no affiliation with the elemental gauge anymore. This should raise the ceiling significantly in terms of not wasting mana or accidentally ending up with 100/100 which meant you didn't necessarily get a proc at the end.
There's seemingly a new finisher after Scorch -> Resolution. We don't know 100% for sure if you can do this new finisher outside of Manafication. Oddly it doesn't give any mana at all which does lead me to believe it's maybe not a cut and dry finisher.
That's basically it from the job trailer. Outside of expanding on the GCDs (Verquake and Vertwister?) I guess RDM is a pretty difficult job to change up since, outside of possible QoL changes/oGCDs it's pretty "complete."
SMN
Oh dear. This ... may be the most disappointing job in the entire job trailer, in my humble opinion. I'm not trying to be too negative but all I can really see is there's some kind of space Bahamut instead of Bahamut. It looks like the exact same job from EW right now except there's a different looking space Bahamut. Good god I hope I'm wrong about this but I really am not seeing anything new besides the animation swap of a space Bahamut.
I have always accepted EW SMN as what it is ... a very simple building block for the future. Nigh objectively one of if not the easiest DPS in the game right now and it looks to be the exact same in DT. I've actually always been okay with this! I try to look at the positive in things, and hey if it's simple and easy that means it's hard to fuck up. But they took something PRIME for expanding upon and didn't. I'm a bit shocked. Maybe the job trailer guys fucked up and there's key info not shown or maybe I'm a moron.
SMN stocks are down.

While there's some light/dark/not-SAM-moon thing going on I think we won't really know until the media tour to the extent of how RNG/adaptive this is but it looks crazy. Will probably be a letdown if it's some kind of consistent rotation but even then it looks to elevate beyond just 123 123 spend spend 123 123 spend spend.

So this has happened to me multiple times now. An employer will send through a teams meeting link for an interview. When it comes time to join this meeting, my computer tries to log me into my current employers business teams account, I select to use my personal microsoft account instead (or use an incognito window so it wont even ask about my work account) and then that fails. Because the link they have sent through only works on a business 365 account/teams account.
To avoid them thinking I'm an idiot (maybe I am but I've tried to get around this multiple times and failed) I often end up taking the interview on my god damn work teams account, meaning I am interviewing for another job using my current employers teams environment and 365 account.
Thats absolute insanity of course, I've just been lucky to get away with it so far.
Am I the only person with this issue? Do employers realise they are giving out teams meeting links to people that they cannot access unless they either a) work for someone who gives them a business teams account and use that or b) buy their own business subscription that includes teams just for the purpose of interviews?!
If anyone wants to test this all out to prove it's actually an issue, that a meeting created in a business teams environment cannot be joined by a personal microsoft account version of teams, or just knows that is the case, I'd be down to test this, I'd love to be able to go to these employers and explain they are providing impossible to get to meeting links. It's about the third time it's happened to me and I'm starting to think I should just refuse all interviews unless they are over Zoom or in person.
Edit: Since people are misunderstanding, I'm not using my work computer for interviews, I'm using my personal PC, but my personal PC knows about my work account thanks to how Office is tied with teams and I have office 365 installed and licensed via my work (its not attached to windows at all or azure). All that being said, this happens on a device that's never seen my work account, it also happens in an incognito browser window, as in, I cannot join a business teams meeting using my personal 365 account. That's what I want to check, are business really conducting interviews using invites that only work on someones work account?!

My parents and I are dealing with a slightly odd situation with their regular insurance guy. We call him Guy.
Basically my parents have gone to the same local person for many years and they have always dealt directly with him for claims and other issues. He has always answered quickly and been good at his job.
My parents run a small business and have 5 vehicles on their policy. The listed drivers should be mom. dad. brother, and their one full time employee.
Back in November the ins. reached out because apparently employee forgot to renew his lisc. Guy notified my parents that had happened and that as of that day he was not insured and we better make sure he doesn't drive the company vehicle until we get it fixed. A few days later we sent over the proof he had gone and renewed it. Guy confirmed that employee was back on their car insurance policy as of 11/16/2023. Employee had a minor fender bender on 3/30/2024. We reached out about the claim via email on 4/4, 4/10. No one was answering us. We called on 5/6 and Guy's employee said "oh send that to me I'll take care of it and email you what you need I'm not sure why you didn't get a response." we waited until 5/10 and heard nothing. Called again on 5/10 and was told claim had been opened and he would forward that IMMEDIATELY.
All calls after 5/10 were ignored and sent to VM. Emails have been ignored as well.
Called Amica directly on 5/16 and was told that no claim was open. No record of the accident has been made. And that "employee" was never added back to the policy as a covered driver. Luckily we did have emails from November stating they had added him back and he was covered. So Amica has stated over the phone they will cover the accident because the broker is considered to be their agent and we have the email proof that as far as we knew he was added back on the policy then.
Here is the issue now: Amica phone support cannot edit the policy to add "employee" as a driver. Only Guy can do that. He is still not answering calls or emails.
What is likely going on here? If we really can't get him or his small staff to answer us what do we do?

I've never posted before and don't really ever, so I don't really know how to go about this but I really need some advice on this. Ill try to keep it shorter but I think it might be a longer one because I feel like context is important.
A short summary of my girlfriend is she's kind of a dork. She's very cuddly and a little clingy to me, a smart girl. She's able to have conversations and its something I really value about our relationship. She's funny and smart, and before all of this she was my Best friend. She's a lovely girl that I care deeply about. She's gotten more possessive over the years and I'm not sure how to feel about it, but more on that later.
We've been friends since middle school (different schools now and basically long distance), and in the beginning of high school I was helping support her a lot more. She's got some problems, self esteem, we think depression and anxiety. It's never bothered me before and I've always tried to be there for her, and in the first two years she really leaned a lot on me. I was in the middle of moving, and was basically staying in one room with my family for an entire year ( we were building the house, and the room was like a really long loft so we did get some space. That's a whole other story)
We would text super late, and I'd really have to coax her into talking to me because she has low self esteem and didn't feel like she was worth it. I gave a lot of myself to her, in a time where I was super busy. I didn't talk to my family as much and sort of drifted away from them, not fully but I spent a lot of time alone in my section of the loft.
Fast forward to the end of last yeathe beginning of this year, she's still dealing with those issues but has gotten more confident and made friends, and I was super happy for her. She wasn't talking to me as much but I was willing to wait longer for her, I'd already waited a few years, so what were a few more?
But then she stopped talking even more, and now I feel like we're drifting apart. She's incredible busy with a number of things like school, learning to drive, her friends, and church stuff. I'm a Christisn, she's a heavily questioning Mormon, and it's not been a point of contention before. We've had conversations about it and something I love about her is that we can disagree on things but still talk about them. It's a really nice thing to be able to have.
Her family are involved in her church, and her mom is a very controlling and dismissive person. She forces her to go to church activities, and frankly she's part of the reason my girlfriend has self esteem issues. And because of that, my girlfriend opted to not tell her anything about our relationship. If I'm honest that part does bother me, but I understand to a degree why she does it.
She's been busy with a lot and stopped making time for me and our relationship. She spent a lot more time with her friends when she actually did have free time, one in particular I'll call Dave. Dave isn't someone I particularly like, but I've also decided I don't dislike him either. He's an atheist, is gay, and has some severe depression from what I can tell. And that's all I kinda know about him. None of those things bother me a lot, because he seems like a cool guy that maybe I might be able to get along with if circumstances were different.
My girlfriend has been friends with him for a while, a year and a half I think, and she started helping him a lot. They hang out at school every day, after school a lot of the time when she doesn't have family or church stuff she goes to the mall or elsewhere and hangs out with them. They talk really late into the night, past midnight. There have been times where we've been talking late at night, and this guy will call her because he needs her and my girlfriend leaves no questions asked.
It makes me super uncomfortable that they talk so late, because despite him being gay I can't help but feel really neglected. She's not the kind to cheat and she doesn't see him that way, but that doesn't mean it doesn't bother me.
I feel awful for disliking that, because he is struggling with things. I don't know if that makes me an awful person, but I wish she spent less time with him. She isn't willing to get him help like a counselor or therapist because for some ungodly reason neither of them trust them.
I get it. They're friends, and at first I was really happy that she was doing better. But what I'm seeing is that she's putting a lot of her time and effort into this new relationship, and completely neglecting ours.
I only get her when she feels like it. Lately it's been a few days between each call, and when we do call it's been super late at night when she's exhausted to the point where she's falling asleep
It makes me super uncomfortable, because for me past 11 is my time for rest and very small amount of people. I don't do drama past 11 unless it started before 11. But she doesn't see it that way. She's willing to give her time and energy to the point where she started doing less well in school because of this guy.
What's more is she doesn't tell me anything about what's going on with her friends. That I don't really understand, if we're in a relationship she should be able to tell me things, but she's gotten so secretive. She's not all that great at communicating, so I'll sometimes go a night to a few days waiting for her to be free enough to day anything aside from short phrases. It's a long distance and we've had conversations about how important communication, words of affirmation, and telling me about her day is. It doesn't have to be serious conversations, but talking is important to me. Less so for her I guess.
We had a conversation yesterday and I told her that I was feeling neglected, and like I haven't really had a girlfriend in a while because she's been so busy. Not just with school (she doesn't have a job) and church, but because she gives so much of her time to her friends. Even before we had this conversation she was gaming with Dave, told me we could talk at 11, and didn't talk to me until 11:30. I told her that it doesn't feel like she's pursuing me or this relationship, and that I didn't feel comfortable with how late she was always talking to her friend, especially Dave.
Her response was essentially her feeling like I'm not doing well enough at setting up dates to go out with her because she does better communicating in person. She also didn't seem to care that I felt uncomfortable because to her it wasn't a weird thing and she wasn't willing to stop. She also said that the reason she stopped talking to me about her problems and her life is because Dave is better at listening, while I always just try to solve the problem.
To a degree I get that, but it really hurt. She basically told me that I wasn't good enough at helping so she found it somewhere else.
It feels like instead of being a boyfriend, I was used to help make her feel better, and when she felt more confident she got more friends and left me behind. Like she wanted a glorified friend instead of someone to dedicate time to.
I told her I feel more like a glorified friend and that it felt like she doesn't want to be my girlfriend, she wanted to be free to do whatever she wants with her friends and only come to me when she kinda feels like.
I asked why she was even with me if I couldn't help her, if she felt anxious or didn't even want to talk to me. I might not go to set up dates and stuff but I don't even see her pursuing this relationship, and it's hard to want to set up a date when I don't see her wanting to be near me.
In the end she left the call because it was late and she didn't want to deal with it.
Just this weekend she decided to go swimming and invited me and Dave, and I went last minute with my sister and her boyfriend. We actually got there before my girlfriend, and she didn't say anything about being late. Or anything at all. She was 40 minutes late because her family is really bad at being on time, and she only got to swim for like an hour. During which, she spent the whole time chatting with Dave, and I felt very much unwanted and like a third wheel.
And after when we were talking and I let her know how I was feeling, she basically said that she felt like "my timing was off" and that it would've been better if I hadn't gone. And that she was going to try and keep me and Dave from going to things together.
I don't think she means it in a "hiding my secret guy from my boyfriend" way. More like she doesn't want her boyfriend and best friend to not get along. But it still really hits hard that she didn't actually want me there.
It's just a mix of a whole lot of shit, and her unwillingness to talk with me and move through things, the secretive way she hides her friends, and the amount of time she dedicated to them versus our relationship. She doesn't make me a part of her life because she struggles to talk about that with me. She's also changed. She swears more, among other things. Every time we talk I try to be calm and clear, because I really value communication. But she left in the middle of our conversation because she didn't want to deal with it. Not because she was tired.
Long story short, I just need kind of any advice. If you couldn't tell this is my first relationship and while I really love her, loving someone won't make the relationship work. She's an amazing person and I don't wanna lose her, but a relationship is a two way street and I can't do anything to further it if she isn't willing to do the same. It isn't over yet, but I worry it might be soon.
TL;DR - my girlfriend has been pulling away for a myriad of reasons, and I don't know if I can do anything to fix this or make it better.
I don't know if I'll do an update or edit or anything like that, I don't usually do stuff like this. I just need some help right now. Is there anything I can do to help make this better, or to hurt less if things go bad?

I’m currently about halfway through my current lease. I’m in a 2Bd1Br apartment that’s right by my college (literally across the street), and about 10 minutes away from my current job. I found the place and invited them to live in the second bedroom since I needed a roommate.
Since then, it’s been actual hell for me. They’re nice and all, especially at work (we work at the same place) but they cannot take any criticism and I’ve found them to be extremely messy. (Leaving full trash bags that they’ve removed from the trash can sitting by the door, the most has been 5, leaving dishes in the sink, and an egregious amount of hair on the bathroom sink, to name a few things.) They’ve also had their boyfriend over almost constantly since we moved in. I’ve brought this up several times and they have a “I pay rent I can do whatever I want with no rules” attitude about it. Which I agree, they pay rent, but I feel like they should be considerate about their roommate. For reference he’s over at least 5 nights a week. And he is pretty disrespectful towards me, so I’m very uncomfortable with him around (I put a lock on my bedroom door specifically because of him). His presence has caused our utilities to shoot up a noticeable amount as well.
I want them to move out when the lease ends, but based on how they reacted when I tried to nicely ask for a compromise on how frequently their boyfriend comes over, I fear it won’t end well. I also tried to get them to sign an agreement before we moved in and they refused.
Next year is very important for me school-wise and I really can’t take all these distractions. Every day I wish I just lived alone. Does anyone have any advice for how to approach this subject? It would be much appreciated.
EDIT: for more context, they do not go to that college and have no relations in the city where our apartment is. It is only convenient for me location-wise. Their boyfriend / other family and our job is in a separate city.

I’m a social media manager and content creator for a great company. Just started in January. Problem is that it’s a desk job and I feel like a “butt in the seat” most of the time. My boss said I either need to be out gathering content or in office 9-5. It makes me insane to be sitting at a desk ON MY PHONE editing reels and such. This job should 100% be hybrid. I don’t mind coming in to the office here and there but I need more flexibility. This company is very outdated in their ways and the marketing director is super neurotic and hard to communicate with. Any advice would be great!

Edit: I live in Colorado now (moved here a few months ago). However, he lived in CT at a boarding school and moved to NJ in 2017 when he retired from his teaching job. Since then, noone has been able to find him and he most likely moved away from NJ. Probably somewhere on the east coast is my guess.

I support predecessors decision to change the system and make it their own internal system so they can edit it at free will. . . BUT DAMN IT DOESN’T SEEM TO BE DOING ITS JOB.
At first it was like give it time to smooth out and separate people to where they should be but it’s been a hot minute and it’s not there. I don’t have a 5 stack to play with every single night nor do I really want to have to do that lol.
It’s like u play with people that either really just don’t give a flying fuck about wining or at-least enjoying the match or u play with people that literally don’t understand the game I mean junglers or mid lanes 0-8 no rotations carry’s with under 5 kills and sometimes these numbers are ok from ONE teammate but not everyone.
And then when you play matches like these it’s like the other team is so well organized and rotating and it’s like how did I end up on this team.
And then when you finally have it good match it’s like oh hey I’m on the good team for once!
It just doesn’t make sense and I think it needs reevaluated and looked at and I think I speak for the whole community. I think we all want better matches more often. Idk if just a new game mode is just going to fix the pools of people playing lol

I'm 21 and always wanted to get into programming and dabbled in it at home, but until now i haven't had the opportunity to go to college. I'm going for CS, but I've yet to choose my electives. I'd like to supplement my Associate's CS degree with the best college electives that prepare me for a job in ML/AI. I've heard these recommendations: Statistics, Minor in EE (Signals and Systems/Electrical Networks), Technical Communications, and also that Psych and Philosophy can be somewhat useful. Any more recommendations or criticism would be much appreciated. Edit: I do plan on going for my bachelors.

Have I got a boomemil story for you! Let's go on an adventure...warning...I tell stories with rabbit holes and tangents. This is probably gonna be too long. I'm sorry!!!
So, the characters are me (40f), boomer MIL (64f BM for short, like bowel movement bc she's caca), my oldest son, (17m), and my church "mom" (65f CM for short).
A little background: BM thinks she's an awesome mom and grandma even though she's not. She uses my kids as facebook props to show off how "wonderful" she is. The only reason she was around my kids so often was because we went to the same church. She lived 10 minutes down the road from us, but could never be bothered to come over or have anything to do with any of us is if we didn't initiate. She has always said that if we ever try to threaten to keep our kids away from her, like if we were having a disagreement, that she would not fight to see them. We've never threatened to keep our kids from her, she just wanted us to know that she didn't give a sh!t to see her gandkids. So, that tells you right there, that she's a grandma when it's convenient for her.
She's of the boomer mentality that mental health issues are made up and aren't real. "You have nothing to be depressed about." "Just snap out if it." "Just be happy." You get the point. I struggle with depression, I always have. She doesn't understand or even try to understand and is the least empathetic person I've ever met.
When I get overwhelmed, I get depressed, and I start shutting down. My plate is overflowing right now. Between the end of the school year and the possibility of us moving states, I've been overwhelmed. My oldest is a senior and the last month of senior year is crazy busy. I have another child (11m) in public school and this is his last year of elementary school, so this has been an extremely busy month for him. I have 3 more kids that do online public school/homeschool. So, they're home all day with online classes, but since they're a public school, they have mandatory state testing just like regular public school. I have had to take them to do state testing on 4 different days overyhe last few weeks and the meeting place was 45 minutes from home, at a conference room in a mall. I also babysit 3 kids (1m, 4m, 4f), so hanging out for 4 to 5 hours a day on 4 different days with a shitload of kids at the f#cking mall was not easy. Not to mention the positions and "jobs" that I hold at church. To say I'm busy is an understatement.
We've been planning on moving for the last few months because a position at my husband's work is coming open near where he grew up, which is in another state. His parents recently moved back to their hometown after my FIL retired, so one reason for the move would be to be closer to them. They are getting older, so I would be taking care of them once they needed it, so moving closer seemed like a great option. Also, it's a lower COL area than we live in now. Currently we live in the metro area of a capital city and we would be moving to a middle of nowhere po'dunk town.

So, to the actual story...
Last week, I got a mother's day card in the mail from BM. She's a dollar tree card fanatic. It was a very typical card that she sends me. Nothing handwritten except for "love, grandma and grandpa." This is what she writes in all my cards. (Another tangent...last year my mom passed a month before mother's day and that actual mother's day was her and my dad's anniversary. And I had a super complicated relationship with my momster. So, it was an exceptionally hard day for me. The card she got me said "Daughter" in huge letters on the front. I thought it was so incredibly passive aggressive and completely inappropriate for that year. If it would've been any other year, it would've been fine. Also, she never gets me cards that just say "daughter" so, to me, it was a low blow.) (Yet another tangent...she does passive aggressive crap all the time, for instance when she used to do fb birthday posts, she would always ask me to send her a pic to post. I'm picky about what pics are used and she knows that. Last year, I sent her a great pic of me and her son to use. So, she used one from about 12 years ago that looked like absolute poop. It was a surprise pic, so like not even posed, stupid look on my face. No matter what pic I send, and usually send like 3, she uses a completely different one that doesn't even look good.) I got the card last Tuesday. Hubby happened to be talking to her while driving home from work that day, so when he got home, I thanked her for the card and just wanted to give her a heads up that I hadn't gotten a chance to mail hers yet because of everything I had going on. I kinda broke down and was sharing how I felt and she basically just said, "suck it up, it'll be fine." She's always been dismissive of my feelings, always.
So, my CM is the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. She listens to me, lets me share my feelings without being dismissive, and actually shows she cares. I see her twice weekly at church, and text with her during the week. Since BM has moved 8 moths ago, she has called or texted "just to talk or check in on us" less than a handful of times. She only calls/texts when she needs something or on a special occasion. She called my husband to ask about something, not just to talk. I understand now why the oldest grandson, my nephew, didn't even bother to invite her to his and his girlfriend's baby shower where he proposed. She thinks she's an amazing grandma bc she sends birthday money in a card and posts their pics on Facebook. And, she even stopped posting the kids birthday messages on fb bc she said it was "too much trouble." So, she just sticks to her 30 daily inspirational Bible quotes posts. She's the type that was so pissed off that both of her kids went with courthouse marriages instead of going into debt for a wedding because she didn't get to walk down the aisle at her kids' weddings and post pics on fb. She's mentioned this several times, but definitely wasn't even willing to spend a dime towards a wedding that no one wanted except her. She was also unwilling to take a day off work to go to the courthouse with us. With both of her kids' marriages, the kids and partners were together for a while and had kids before getting married, so spending tons of money on a huge wedding for either of us couples wouldn't have been the best way to spend money.
On mother's day, I gave my CM a card with a few lines written in it about how amazing she is and how I'm so grateful for her. I'm way closer to her than BM. CM is my chosen family and to me, your chosen family is the one that means more because you chose them, you didn't just get stuck with them. My blood family is incredibly toxic, so I stick with my chosen family. CM made a fb post with all that she got for mother's day. It was gifts and cards from her own children, and of course my card as well. CM & BM are fb friends, so of course BM saw it. Also, BM has everyone convinced she's this sweet, little old church lady, but she is far from it.
So, this Tuesday she got her cards in the mail. I always give her one from hubby and myself, and a separate one from our boys. I wrote a nice little note in it. Not long, a line or 2, but it was more effort than she put into my card. She sent me and hubby the following in a group text...
Copy and pasted, only edited out names.
"Got my cards in the mail today. 😭. They were post marked Saturday. You could of kept them til I got there or next year. It's like yall bought them Saturday, wrote a few words and rushed to get them to post office. My heart 💔broken. I thought I deserved better. I wish I could send pictures of my card verses [CM] 😩 card. I couldnt tell which gift was yours. But least I have a year to try do better and be worthy of such wonderful words of love and praise that was written to her.
I don't mean to complain or seem ungrateful but I wished you hadn't mailed them.😭😭. I can't explain how crushed I am.😔 Anyway hopefully I will see yall on the 20th."
Note: my oldest son is graduating on the 20th. She was supposed to drive down and spend the night with us to attend the graduation. I honestly believe she picked this fight because she doesn't want to drive the 6 hours down here.
If you "don't mean to complain or seem ungrateful" then why tf did you send it? I asked my husband what was his initial reaction and he said, "Really?!? All she had to do was say thanks."
So, after I talked to my husband and oldest son (I wanted to make sure everyone was on board with what I was saying before I sent it) , I sent her this response:
"I mailed them on Friday, I bought them several weeks ago. I told you I hadn't mailed them yet because I've been in a deep depression and you dismissed my feelings like always. I have real, valid feelings and you always dismissed them as silly. And come after me because now you're feelings are hurt. Wow, ok. The absolute audacity. And it's not just with your cards that I'm slacking. It's with everything. Because I have depression. I'm overwhelmed on top of that and literally the only thing you care about is a card. I tried to express my feelings the other day on the phone and you dismissed them like you always do. I know things will be fine, but in this moment they are not and you don't get that. Because you don't understand how or why I feel the way I do, then my feelings are silly or invalid to you.
And I never gave [CM] a present. Don't know why you thought that.
Don't worry about coming down on the 20th."
She replies by trying to blackmail me;
"Well my am so sorry I said anything. I never realized you thought that about me. I never dismissed your depression but yes i never knew what to do for you. I am not going to go back and forth about this. I will text [son] and let him know you told me not to come."
She's not sorry to me for being dismissive, she's sorry because now she doesn't get her "Proud MeMe moment" and can't post pictures of her at his graduation on fb. And even if she didn't "know what to do" for me, all she had to do was ask. Or listen. Or give a damn hug. But, no, she just dismissed me bc to her depression isn't real. And she's not going back and forth bc she knows shes wrong! Little did she know that I had already cleared it with hubby and son before sending the text, so I think she thought it would make me look bad to my oldest son that I told her no to come. Oldest son said, "I'm neutral, I don't care if she comes or not. It's not like she's had anything to do with us since she moved, and barely had anything to do with us when she was here."
So, my last text to her said, "He knows. I asked him before I texted you, and he's good with it."
All she had to do was say thanks or not even say anything at all. But, no, she had to say something stupid. Even her own son said that she's lucky she even got a card bc if it was up to him, her actual son, she wouldn't have gotten anything. So, not only is she not invited to the graduation, she's never welcome in my home again. The great part is I don't have to share my holidays with her ever again!!! And please know that I'd never keep her grandchildren from her, but if she wants a relationship with them, she'll have to put some effort in. And we all know boomers hate effort.
