2024.05.15 19:51 RVAIsTheGreatest Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, or Thumbs Across on Cody Williams

Former Colorado G/F Cody Williams, a McDonald's All American and top 5-10 recruit in the 2023 class, entered the NBA Draft and is all in: https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1782484315122614490 Cody missed 13 games this season with wrist, eye, and ankle injuries and after a very strong start to his season, which saw him skyrocket to the top 5 of mocks with some flirtations with the #1 overall pick, he cooled down and has seen his stock mostly sit from around the end of the top 10 to mid-teens.
Williams measured in at 6'6.5 without shoes and 7'1 wingspan at the combine. He's about 6'8 in shoes, and combined with his awesome wingspan and reach, is fantastic size for a combo forward. His wingspan is central to some of his biggest strengths as a prospect. On the downside, he only weighed in at 178. He's a thin guy with a thin frame and he'll likely always be on the thinner side. Strength is a big concern of his as a prospect, both as a player and in terms of his ability to remain durable throughout an 82 game season.
Williams is a good athlete. His athleticism is a little distinct from many. He's very fluid and light on his feet as an athlete. He has very good body control in the air. He can really jump with a little space and when on the move. But he doesn't have tremendous pure burst/explosiveness from a standstill. He has good quickness and accelerates through the gears quickly and the fact he's light on his feet and has good timing as a driver makes his first step a decent one, but he doesn't have an elite top gear.
Williams not having elite burst and being on the frail side means he's not too much of a pure self-creator at the moment. When he gets to the rim, it's usually in translation, off rips from the perimeter, out of DHO/PNR's on ball, or off curls and screens off the ball. He gets to the rim off designed actions and he gets to the line at a decent rate on these actions, but not much off his own creation.
Williams was a fantastic finisher at the rim this year. He gets great extension around the rim. He takes long strides as a driver. He's really light on his feet as a driver. He will change speeds, give a defender a hesitation move before attacking out of the PnR and does a good job slithering his way to the rim. He's decisive when he decides to catch and rip from the perimeter and has really good timing as a driver. His timing, his stride length, solid quickness and fluidity makes him hard to contain when he's catching and taking it to the rim off spot ups, he's a fantastic finisher on these plays, and he's very good off curls/screen actions designed to get him downhill; his size, his strides/quickness, timing, means he's usually gaining advantages on defenders he faces. The extension he gets around the rim, and his very soft touch with floaters and hooks around the rim, gives him a lot of range around the rim to finish. He has fantastic ability to adjust in the air. Very good body control. He can finish with up and unders around the rim. He can start his flight to the rim from pretty far out and he generates contact that way...it makes his shots difficult to contest around the rim.
Williams is also an awesome cutter. A lot of his cuts for baskets were off designed plays. He does a great job reading when his defender is ball watching, does a great job manipulating defenders into creating opportunities for himself for cuts to the basket, and he dives quickly to the basket. He has great instincts as a cutter and find his way into a few easy baskets a game.
He has mismatch potential in the post with his size/length. He has nice footwork in the post. He likes turning into the basket and taking a hook/floater and his touch is also excellent on these shots. This is a part of his game that could be leveraged a bit more at the professional level and as he gains strength.
Williams isn't an awful ballhandler but he's not a great one either. He can handle in transition and he can bring the ball up and facilitate. He's not that great when handling the ball in tight spaces. He doesn't have a tremendous amount of shake. He does have a deceptive crossover that allows him to gain space but he doesn't have a ton of shake outside of that. He has a nice spin move and has some impressive possessions breaking free from a defender with the spin move, but he can overuse it. He gets stripped using the spin move or stripped looking to drive down the middle of the lane quite a bit. He will get cut off on drives because he's unable to gain separation. The combination of his only average handle, lack of strength, and pedestrian burst I think is partially responsible for his passivity on the offensive end. He doesn't have a ton of middle game at this point; he's a mediocre pull-up shooter. He's fantastic in transition with his athleticism and his ability to both push it with the ball and be a play finisher, but he's just not a halfcourt self-creator. The question is whether or not people feel this is a part of his game that he can develop in the years ahead. Because his ceiling on the offensive end hinges quite a bit on this part of his game taking a jump.
He does get to the rim out of the PnR. As said above, he does a nice job slithering to the rim out of the PnR. Plays under control and is able to maneuver his way to the basket. He finds rollers out of the PnR and he can make the skip pass. He is a fair drive and dish option. He's not an advanced playmaker or passer but has some flashes. He moves the ball well and he does a pretty good job getting his team into offensive sets as a facilitator. He will find cutters as a facilitator from the key. He turned the ball over too much...had a fair few miscommunications with teammates, lazy/poor passes, and he's not strong enough with the ball right now. He will get bumped off spots when looking to drive and not be able to get to the rim. He gets pushed away from the rim on drives a decent amount but his length still allows him to finish on a lot of these drives; but it also makes him more vulnerable to turnovers as defenders can take away his air space and force him into picking up his dribble.
Williams has a mechanically sound shot and 41.5% from 3 but only on 1.5 attempts. He shot 71% from the FT line. He is elite in the C&S. He's someone who needs a little space to gather his footwork but he does a good job at making himself a presentable target from the perimeter and hitting the open looks. He's not the most dynamic shooter currently, but I do think the C&Sing is for real, and combined with his secondary creation ability and ability to make plays off closeouts, he's someone who's a solid option as an off ball scorer.
Williams is not much of a rebounder for a 6'8 player. This is another red flag that many have regarding his desire to take on contact, lack of aggression and lack of physicality. He was a good defender anyway at Colorado this year....he flips his hips very fluidly. He is very light on his feet. Moves really well laterally overall, although he doesn't always react to initial moves as well as he needs to. His wingspan is of big benefit to his ability to recover when beat and contest shots. He has urgency/quickness in recovering when he's beat.
Screens can really bury him at times, but he's not a disaster in dealing with traffic. It's not a positive for him at the moment overall, which further illuminates the necessity in he gaining muscle going forward. He will at times shy away from contesting shots around the rim. He isn't super active off the ball defensively. He does a good job using his length to deter passes in passing lanes but he's not a ball hawk and he plays a pretty contained brand of defense. You appreciate the fundamentally sound nature of his defense but also believe there's defensive playmaking ability there that's gone untapped.
Cody will get pushed back on ball defensively against guys who drive into his chest. He's a really good isolation defender, and also a strong PnR defender where his length really comes to fore, he does a good job rotating and has strong overall defensive instincts, but he will give up buckets to drivers going downhill off DHO's/screens. He can't wall them off. He can be pretty jumpy on rotations...he bites on fakes and flies out of plays too often. He has moments of discipline but too many mistakes. Ball watches too often on defense. Freshman mistakes. His defense overall was good, and the upside is excellent on this end as/if he gains strength, but he can certainly be better than he was this season at Colorado.
Cody Williams had his ups and downs as a freshman at Colorado, but remains a very intriguing prospect with his physical tools, versatility on the offensive end, and ability and upside on the defensive end. I think he was clearly a bit oversold as a #1 pick. He's too much of a project on the offensive end and is simply not enough of a finished product to be a #1 selection even in a class like this. He has a lot of upside on both ends of the floor and simply gaining strength would be a huge boon for him as a player, but there are questions surrounding his mentality and whether he's someone who has the mental makeup of a star. There are questions surrounding how much strength he'll be able to add. Even with all of the questions, many view him as one of the highest ceiling prospects in this draft class. If it all comes together, you could see why that is this season at Colorado.
Are you all Thumbs Up, Down, or Across on Cody Williams?
Note: Gonna make a post on all three Colorado prospects coming up. Everyone has their scouting report and personal opinion. I wanna cut to the chase...are you all down or up on these three. First things first with the highest rated of the three.

2024.05.15 19:50 Flagg1991 Children of the Night (Part 3)

An hour after getting back from the Mason apartment, Bruce Kenner had the distinct misfortune of meeting Bertha Henderson.
A plump, gaudy woman with wrinkles and sun beaten skin only an alligator could love, Bertha Henderson wore bright red lipstick, bright red rouge, and way too much mascara. Her tangled hair was a dull red color and her clothes - pink pants and a white floral top - stretched tight across her bulbous frame. She looked like the kind of woman who lived in a trailer with velvet pictures of Elvis on the wall and pink flamingos in the front yard.
She acted like one too.
From the moment she stormed into his office, she hadn’t shut up once. She scolded, chided, accused, and badgered, sometimes even wagging one fat finger in his face like he was a naughty little boy. Ten minutes into the dressing down and Bruce was beginning to fantasize about police brutality.
It took him another ten minutes to find out what the hell she even wanted.
“It’s my granddaughter,” she shot back, “she’s missing in your town.”
My town? Lady, this is barely my office. I share it with three other people.
“Well, if you’ll calm down, maybe I can help.”
Jesus Christ was that the wrong thing to say. She hit the roof and didn’t come down again until Bruce was this close to arresting her for assault on a police officer. “Young man, I do not appreciate the way you’re talking to me. My tax dollars are the only reason you have a job. If it wasn’t for me, you’d be working at a car wash.”
At least I wouldn’t have to deal with you.
Bruce took a deep breath and held his tongue in check. “How can I help you?” he asked.
“I told you, my granddaughter is missing. If you listened to me, you’d know this already.”
Bertha produced a picture and slid it across the desk. Bruce studied it. A girl, roughly sixteen with black hair, blue eyes, and dimples smiled back at him. “She;’s with that Rossi man, I just know it,” she said bitterly.
“Who?” Bruce asked.
Rolling her eyes like he was stupid, the old woman told him the story. Jessie - the dimple faced girl - had the rotten luck of having to live with Grandma Bertha after her parents went to jail on drug charges. They lived in Sand Lake, a little town in the mountains outside Albany, where Bertha was no doubt loved and admired by all. One day, Jessie, who her grandmother lovingly described as “A little troublemaker”, ran off. Bruce didn’t blame her. He’d known Bertha for half an hour and he wanted to run off. Bertha did some snooping on Jessie’s laptop and found that the “little whore” had been chatting with an older man, Joe Rossi. Rossi, or so Facebook said, lived in Albany and worked at Club Vlad.
“I want him arrested for pedophilia,” Bertha said and crossed her arms defiantly over her chest. “He’s a dog just like all men. She’s probably pregnant already. Another mouth I have to feed.”
Behind the old battle ax, Vanessa appeared in the doorway and lifted her brows as if to say What a piece of work. Knowing her, she’d probably been standing just out of sight this whole time with McKenny, the elderly evidence clerk, and snickering into her hand like a little girl. LOL she called him young man.
Bertha noticed him looking over her shoulder and started to turn. Vanessa’s face went white and she ducked out of the way, narrowly avoiding detection. “I’m glad you think this is funny,” Bertha said to Bruce. “Meanwhile, if I don’t get Jessie back, the state’s going to stop sending me my checks. I need that income. I can’t work, you know. I have gout.”
Too bad being an asshole isn’t a job, you’d be world-famous
“I’ll go talk to him,” Bruce said.
“I want more than talk, young man, I want action.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
When Bertha finally decided to waddle off and ruin someone else’s day, Vanessa came in and sat in the chair the old woman had so recently occupied. “Oh, my God,” she said, “that was intense. I was this close to radioing in a 1015.”
1015 was code for officer down.
“Funny,” Bruce said without a trace of humor. He had kids going missing, a dead guy someone moved around like a goddamn Barbie doll, and now this. What next, hemorrhoids?
“What do you think? Code 1 or code 2?”
Code 1 meant top priority. Code 2 meant not a top priority. Bruce thought for a moment. It didn’t sound like Jessie Henderson was in danger. It sounded like she met a guy - granted, one too old for her - and decided to hide out with him from her psycho grandma. Maybe it could be something more, but he had a gut feeling that it wasn’t…and his gut feelings were usually right. “2,” he finally said. “I got shit to do.”
By shit, he meant “Talk to the families of those missing boys again.” He’d been interviewing them for two days looking for clues, but there was nothing. It’s like they just vanished. Bruce didn’t like this. He didn’t like it at all.
“Well, I’ll leave you to it,” Vanessa said and slapped the desk.
When she was gone, Bruce sighed.
Never a dull moment, he thought.

Ed Harris - no relation to the Hollywood actor - had been the medical examiner for the City of Albany since 2002, and in all that time, he had never seen anything quite like this.
It was Wednesday evening and Ed was locked away in the cold, sterile space beneath the city offices that comprised his domain. With its puke green tiles, harsh lights, and cloying smells of disinfectant, the .coroner's office creeped most people out, but not Ed. He was at home here, as comfortable surrounded by toe-tagged bodies as a cactus was surrounded by desert. A thin man in his fifties with curly, steel gray hair thinning in the middle, he wore a white smock, blood stained over his clothes that made him look like a butcher instead of a low level government functionary. He had a dark and dry sense of humor, but then again, so do all people who play with dead bodies for fun and profit.
The coroner’s office was a vast, utilitarian vault segmented into multiple different rooms. Here, where the magic happened, three stainless steel tables stood in a row; a bank of refrigerated drawers kept watch, making sure nothing funny happened. One of the cold fluorescent lights overhead flickered with a hum of electricity, and water dripped rhythmically from a faucet. It was a cold, eerie place, but to Ed, it was home.
On most nights, only one of the tables was occupied, but tonight, two were. On one lay an old lady who died of what appeared to be cyanide poisoning. On the other was Dominick Mason.
Naked save for a white cloth draped over his groin to protect his dignity, Dom was the most corpsy corpse you’d ever hope to see. In fact, if you looked up dead guy in the dictionary, you’d see a picture of him. His body was pale and sunken, one side covered in purple splotches where his blood had pooled, and his eyes were closed. His abdomen was slightly distended with the expected build up of gas, and his flesh stuck fast to the bones beneath. In other words, he was text book. A normal corpse.
Mostly normal.
As men of his trade are wont to do when strange bodies mysteriously appear, Ed had opened Dom up, making a Y shaped incision from his neck to his groin. He hummed to himself as he did so, his hands wielding his sharp and shiny tools with the deft assuredness of a seasoned surgeon. Done cutting, he dipped his gloved hands into the cavity and started removing organs. A spleen here, a liver there, nothing Dom would miss. When he got to the heart, however, he stopped.
There was something…off…about it. At first glance, it was black and withered like an oversized raisin. An odd and putrid odor emanated from it and though he was familiar with the various smells and stenches the human body produced after death, this wasn’t one of them. Try as he might, he couldn’t place it, couldn’t even compare it to anything. Plucking a magnifying glass from the metal cart next to the table, he peeled back part of Dom’s chest and examined the heart closer.
That’s when things got really weird.
Dominick Mason’s heart was, indeed, shriveled, but it was not black. Instead, it was almost entirely covered by an interlacing crisscross of what appeared to be black mold. Here and there, Ed could glimpse flashes of the heart beneath: It was wrinkled and a sickly gray color. “What is this?” Ed asked himself at length. He grabbed a pair of tweezers from the tray and carefully, very carefully, attempted to remove a piece of the mold for analysis. The moment the cold metal tips touched the heart, it gave a violent spasm that sent Ed falling back with a shocked gasp, the tweezers falling from his hand and clinking to the tiled floor.
The heart began to pulse like an alien egg sac, slowly at first, then more rapidly. For a moment, Ed was frozen in place, unable to comprehend what he was seeing. Once you die, your heart ceases beating. That’s that. Only living hearts beat, and Dominick Mason was certainly dead. He was dead from the moment Ed first laid eyes on him earlier that day and he was dead now. Yet there was his heart, beating anyway.
It could be a muscle spasm. They usually aren’t that violent and consistent, but dead bodies sometimes do strange things. As he watched the blackened muscle expanding and contracting, however, Ed had the most eerie feeling. He went to rub the back of his neck, realized he was still wearing blood soaked gloves, and stripped them off. He was spooking himself out; he needed a break and a hot cup of coffee. He’d come back fresh and start over again.
With that mold.
Could you really blame him for being creeped out? That stuff wasn’t normal. He’d never seen anything like that before, not even in textbooks. Dom was scrawny and didn’t get enough vitamins in life, but overall, he was healthy; that mold…or whatever it was…had no business being there.
Going over to the coffee pot, which stood in the same room to save travel time, Ed grabbed a styrofoam cup. When he was done here, he planned to go home and -
A terrible, metallic clatter rang out, and Ed jumped. He turned around, and when he saw Dominick Mason standing next to the table, hunched slightly over and staring at him, an electric burst of fright shot up his spine and exploded in his brain, so strong it made the edges turn gray. Pale, hands hooked into talons, and the flaps of his chest hanging open to reveal the cavity beneath, Dominick Mason looked for all the world like a boy who’d been caught sneaking out to meet his girlfriend. A weak, involuntary, “Oh, God,” slipped from Ed’s trembling lips, and the spell was broken. Dom came alive and ran toward the door leading out to the parking lot. He slammed through it, and the sound of it crashing open and then falling closed again echoed through the empty chamber.
Shaking, panting for air, and soaked in piss, Ed sank to the floor in a sitting position, his eyes wide and staring like those of a soldier returning damaged from the front.
It was a long time before he composed himself enough to call the police.
***
Dazed and caught in a nightmarish twilight realm where nothing made sense, Dominick Mason limped painfully down the sidewalk, a stranger lost in a strange land filled with danger and hostile creatures. Barefoot and shrouded in a white sheet, he trembled with cold and struggled to ignore the dark, threatening shapes looming from the fog in his brain, shapes that would turn into unspeakable truths if he let them.
Passersby openly stared at him, their expressions either morbidly curious, disgusted, or alarmed. A man put his arm protectively around his girlfriend; a woman pulled her little boy to her breast, and another man sneered at him, his nose crinkling. Dom, his glazed eyes narrowed against the harsh glare of the many street lamps, headlights, and storefronts, lumbered headlong toward nowhere, his fear growing until he was shambling. He imagined he could hear every cough, every whisper; smell the odor of every unwashed body. Each car horn was deafening, every whiff of ass or armpits sent his stomach churning. The rustle of a passing pedestrian’s jacket jammed into his ears like icepicks, and the approaching globes of LED headlamps burned his eyes. He gritted his teeth and groaned against the pain.
The dense mist wrapping his brain made it hard to think. Like a frightened animal, he made his way on instinct alone. Home. He needed to get home. Out here, on the street, he was exposed. At home, locked away in his small apartment, he would be safe.
A car passed in the street, bass heavy rap music blaring from its open windows, and Dom’s brain exploded with agony. He threw himself against a street sign and held on for dear life, his legs weak. Dizziness overwhelmed him, and he almost went down. He was also cold.
So, so cold.
People around him quickened their step; they never took their eyes off him, as though he were a venomous snake that would strike at any moment. He needed to get away from them. They were going to hurt him; people always hurt him.
Pushing away from the sign, he began to hobble once more toward home, wherever home was. He looked over his shoulder several times as he made his way down Central Avenue, and each time, he saw that no one was following him as he had feared.
No one, that is, except for the man in sunglasses.
Tall and lank with curly hair, he wore dark Aviators and a leather motorcycle jacket over a button up shirt. His hands were thrust deep into his pockets and his face showed no expression. He was always there, always a few steps closer. Outside Capital Fried Chicken, a group of people openly stared at him, He heard their whispers as he passed. What’s wrong with him? Dude’s straight tweakin. And the one that struck him the most. That guy looks dead.
Dom hobbled faster, as if to outrun the realization that he was, in fact, dead. The man in sunglasses was closer now, his footsteps so loud that Dom winced. He turned around, and the man was impossibly in front of him. Dom ran into him and bounced backward, going ass over tea kettle and landing on the former. They were in front of a church on a darkened corner, the lights here either burned out or shot out - you could never tell in Albany. Even though it was dark, Dom could see everything with crystal clarity. Dom tried to scurry away, but he was too weak to escape. Right there and then, he decided to give up. Come what may, he just wanted this nightmare to be over.
The man stared down at him, emotionless, unspeaking.
Dom squirmed.
“You’re real lucky I came along,” the man said. His tone was flat, even.
Dead.
“Get up,” he said, “I’ll take you home.”
Home?
Yes.
Dom wanted to go home.
The man helped him up, and Dom followed him into the night.

Bruce Kenner stood in the middle of the medical examiner’s office at half past nine that evening with his hands on his hips and stared doubtfully down at Ed Harris. The lonely cavern was alive with activity as cops went over everything, all of them looking either bemused or a mused. Bruce was neither. He’d been at home, sitting in his chair and having a beer in front of AEW Dynamite when Vanessa called. “You might wanna get down here,” she said, sounding confused, “something really strange is going on.”
Ed Harris - no relation to that one guy - sat in a straight back chair beside his cluttered desk and gripped a styrofoam cup of coffee in both hands, putting Bruce - for some reason - in mind of a monkey. When Bruce came in, the old man was white as a sheet and shook like a leaf. In the last half hour, little had changed.
“Tell me again,” Bruce said.
He and Ed were pretty good friends. He knew that Ed knew standard police procedure. Cops don’t ask you to repeat your story a thousand times over because they’re forgetful fucks, they do it because telling it again and again helps to jog loose details that you might have forgotten. Ed, therefore, did not protest. “I turned my back,” he said and chopped the chair like Jackie Chan, “and I heard the noise.”
His voice was thick, unsteady, and halting. He sounded as squirrely as he looked…and he looked pretty damn squirrelly right now.
“I turned around…and he was looking at me. He was standing there and he was looking at me.”
This was the fourth time he’d had Ed go through the story, and nothing had changed. Bruce felt something stirring deep inside his gut. It was either disquiet…or he had to fart. He opened his mouth to speak, but sighed.
“You don’t believe me,” Ed said.
“I dunno, Ed. Dead bodies don’t just get up and walk away.”
Ed flashed. “I know that, goddamn it, but this one did.”
Bruce glanced at Vanessa. She looked uncomfortable.
“Are you sure he was dead?” Bruce asked.
Ed opened his mouth, closed it again, and said, “I did the autopsy.” His voice broke on the last word, and he sounded almost like he was pleading. “His fucking liver’s on the floor. He stepped on it. The man has nothing in him. I-I’m telling you, there’s no way he’s alive.”
During the autopsy, Ed had sat Dominick Mason’s organs on the little tray table where he kept his pointy things. Mason knocked it over while getting up. Indeed, there were human organs on the floor, and one of them did look kind of squished. Bare, bloody footprints led to the exit door, up a set of concrete steps, and then disappeared in the alley behind the office.
“You said you left his heart,” Bruce said.
“And his brain,” Vanessa helpfully added.
Ed pinched the bridge of his nose like a put upon professor dealing with two particularly stupid students. “Even with his heart and his brain, he’s dead. You saw the livor mortis. He was cold, he was stiff. His heart wasn’t beating, he wasn’t breathing. He was in one of those drawers for nine hours, not breathing, no blood flow - it’s impossible. It’s just…it’s impossible. I don’t care what you think, he was dead. And even if somehow he wasn’t, I cut out almost everything. I opened his stomach, I took his spleen - you don’t just get up from that. You don’t walk away from that, much less run.”
Bruce chewed the inside of his bottom lip because he didn’t have a Twix. He didn’t look like the smartest man in the world…and he wasn’t…but he knew a dead body when he saw one, and the body they took out of Dominick Mason’s apartment was D.E.A.D. And like Ed said, even if by some freak fluke of nature he wasn’t, he couldn’t just get up and go about his day with no liver, spleen, or kidneys. Hell, Bruce had his gallbladder out and he couldn’t even walk away from that.
“You said there was something funny about his heart,” Vanessa said.
Ed finished off his coffee. “Yeah. It was…moldy. I-I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“Is it possible that…has something to do with it?”
“Unless the rules of biology have changed overnight, no,” Ed stated.
While Ed poured himself another cup of Joe, spilling some because he was still shaking, Vanessa took Bruce aside. “So what do you think?” she asked. “Is he telling the truth?”
For that, Bruce did not have an immediate answer. All else aside, he was a cop. He followed the evidence - and his gut instinct - wherever it led him. Ed was a sober man - he was not a drunk, insane, or stupid - and no man on earth could fake the look of trauma in his eyes. Bruce’s eyes went to the bloody footprints leading away from the exam table and his stomach roiled. It might be cliched, but there had to be a rational explanation. “Yeah,” he finally said. “The kid got up like he said, but there’s no way he was dead. Maybe…I dunno, he had a surge of adrenaline or something. I’m not a doctor.”
“That’ll only get him so far,” Vanessa said. “We’ll probably find him on the street somewhere.”
He went back to the purple splotches on Dom’s face, to his cold stiffness. There’s no way he was dead?
Bruce was confused, and he hated being confused.
“I dunno,” he said, “maybe.”
But he had the gnawing feeling that they wouldn’t. They would never find him…and Bruce would be confused forever.
Goddamn it, Mason, he thought, where are you?

By John Sanidopoulos
Originally, in biblical times, Pentecost was primarily a harvest festival, but after the time of Jesus and the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans it became more focused on the fact that according to Exodus 19:1, fifty days after Israel came out of Egypt, God brought them to Sinai to establish His covenant with them and to give them His Law through His Prophet Moses. So from the institution of the feast of Passover, which led to the liberation of the Jews from bondage in Egypt, until God brought them to Mount Sinai to deliver His law to His people, fifty days passed. By being given a law and having God as their Ruler, they would be able to enter the Promised Land as one nation.
In the Orthodox Church, on the feast of Easter, which is known as Pascha (the Greek word for Passover), we celebrate the liberation of the human race from the bondage of sin, death and the devil through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and over a period of fifty days until the feast of Pentecost we are led on a journey to receive from God His Holy Spirit, through whom the law of God is written in our hearts instead of on tablets of stone (cf. 2 Cor. 3:3). When the law of God is written in our hearts through the Holy Spirit, we become united citizens of God's eternal kingdom. The fifty day period between Easter and Pentecost is known in the Orthodox Church as the Pentecostarion.
After we celebrate Easter, and when Renewal or Bright Week is over, the Church wisely sets up two Sundays in which to abolish all doubts concerning the Resurrection of Christ, that of the Sunday of Saint Thomas and the Sunday of the Myrrhbearing Women. This is done in order to ensure that we all partake of the living water that only the risen Lord can give. The following three Sundays, as we approach Pentecost, the theme of water from the Gospel of John becomes more and more central in the hymns of the Church. Thus we are found one Sunday at the Sheep's Pool with the Paralytic, then at the Well of Jacob with the Samaritan Woman, and finally at the Pool of Siloam with the Blind Man. During this festive period we hear concerning the "living water" which if one partakes "he will never thirst." We are taught that it is our Savior Himself who is this living water, and we partake of Him through the baptismal waters and the divine eucharist which issued forth from His side at His crucifixion unto remission of sins and life everlasting. Then on Pentecost we have grace rained upon our parched souls and bodies so that we may be fruitful and have a rich harvest as we hear from the holy Gospel on that day: "If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink." Finally, the Pentecostarion concludes with the Feast of All Saints, celebrating those who partook of the "waters of piety", which is the harvest of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
In the story of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt to the Promised Land, we first read how God abolishes the doubts of His people by His parting of the Red Sea and being in their presence as a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day. He also provides water and food for them. As desert life proves arduous, the Israelites complain and long for Egypt, but God miraculously provides manna for them to eat and water to drink. Water, as a source of life, also becomes a central theme in the Exodus story, since it is the most basic human need when traveling through a dry and hot desert. Not only does God part the Red Sea allowing for the safe passage of the Israelites, but He also provides water for them by miraculously issuing water from a rock. Therefore, just as Jesus provides the living water by which His people will never thirst again, so does God provide for the Israelites natural water in a miraculous way to quench their temporary thirst. The same with the manna from heaven: just as Jesus provides for us His body and blood as food and drink, without which we cannot be a part of Him and His kingdom, so also the Jews were given the manna miraculously for forty years in the desert, without which they would not have survived to enter the Promised Land.
Arriving at Sinai, before Moses ascended the mountain, he spoke to the people (Ex. 19:3-9):
"And Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, 'Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation." These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.' ... And the Lord said to Moses, 'Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.'”
Likewise did Jesus speak to His disciples before ascending into heaven (Acts 1:4-9), having told them before His Passion that "it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you" (Jn. 16:7):
"And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, 'which,' He said, 'you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.' Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, 'Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?' And He said to them, 'It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.' Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight."
And then in the Book of Exodus (19:16-20) we read:
"Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice. Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up."
Compare this with what we read in the Acts of the Apostles (2:1-4), when the holy apostles were in the upper room in which Jesus established His covenant with them before His crucifixion, waiting for the promise of the Lord to send them His Holy Spirit, who suddenly came on Pentecost at the third hour of the day:
"When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
The people outside who heard this noise and had come from throughout the world to Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost were confused by what they heard and amazed how each of them could understand the apostles in their own language, yet some mocked them and considered them drunk. Peter then spoke to the people and proclaimed the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, testifying to the fact that the Holy Spirit had come, the great day of the Lord proclaimed by the prophets. Then we read of the reaction of the people:
"Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Men and brethren, what shall we do?' Then Peter said to them, 'Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.' ... Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them... So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”
Meanwhile we read in Exodus (24:3-4), after Moses was given the law from the Lord and came down to the people:
"So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, 'All the words which the Lord has said we will do.' And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars according to the twelve tribes of Israel."
We therefore conclude with the fact that the Exodus of the Jews foreshadows the Pentecostarion of the Church. Both are about an arduous journey of a people who have a covenant with the Lord to receive a great promise from Him after being united as one people and becoming one nation. One is united by the Law of Moses written with the finger of God, while the other is united by the Grace of Jesus Christ through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, making them a new nation, a new people, a new Israel, citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven.
And He said to them, 'It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.

2024.05.15 19:40 Realistic-Bet-5965 From Bottom-Up: What is the First Layer of Code and How is it Encapsulated for Upper Layers?

As a software engineer, I've been writing libraries that call APIs from the top layer of the operating system. As I delved deeper, I began to understand the operating system, system calls, and eventually, device drivers. Further down, I learned about embedded systems and various circuits. I even learned how to build a computer using logic gates, although my understanding of the circuitry aspect is not very deep.
However, I'm struggling to connect the dots and integrate all this knowledge. For instance, in embedded systems, such as 51 single-chip microcomputers or other microcontrollers, from my software perspective, I don't see any difference between them and the software I develop at the top layer. What's the relationship between the code I write and the hardware? Although I know that a computer is composed of various circuits, I still can't grasp how the code I write is related to the hardware.
In the hardware aspect, I understand that it's all about physical electrical connections. A wire can only be either on or off, representing 1 and 0, respectively. So, when I connect my computer to a single-chip microcomputer using USB, I wonder how the microcomputer can receive the data I send. Does it have a program inside when I buy it? If not, how can it process the data I send? Through my inquiry, I learned that the circuits inside the microcomputer don't have a program initially, but rather, they use a bootloader to load the program into the microcomputer. But where is the program stored? And does the microcomputer execute the program continuously when it's powered on? Wouldn't that waste resources?
I also have questions about UART communication. Since physical wires can only transmit 1 and 0, how do microcontrollers receive data in bytes? Is it possible that the microcontroller sends half a byte and receives a quarter of a byte, and then the code reads it as such? Through my inquiry, I learned that there's a controller inside the microcontroller that handles the bit-level signals, receives the specified number of bits, and then copies the data to memory through interrupts or other means. The code I write can then read the data in byte units. But I'm still confused about how this works.
Furthermore, I'm puzzled about how protocols are implemented on top of byte-level communication. For example, how do protocols define headers, footers, and data? Is it layer upon layer of encapsulation? In network communication, is the physical layer responsible for receiving bits, assembling bytes, and copying data to memory through interrupts or other means? And then, can I use C language to read the data from memory in byte units?
I'm mainly working on software development, but I've dabbled in embedded systems and don't see much difference between them. I've learned some assembly language and understand basic instructions, but I still struggle to connect the dots. I want to find the starting point of code and its connection to hardware, but I haven't been able to figure it out.
I've heard that code, regardless of the language, ultimately becomes assembly language, which corresponds to machine language. Machine language is just a set of instructions that the circuits execute. Hard disks copy data to memory, and writing code is just a process of changing the values in memory. Saving data is just a matter of copying it to the hard disk. The screen display is just a mapping of memory data to pixels on the screen. So, the computer doesn't really understand what's on the screen.
I'd appreciate it if you could help me identify any mistakes in my understanding and clarify the relationships between single-chip microcomputer code and the underlying hardware. I don't need to fully understand the circuits and embedded systems, but I want to have a clear understanding of how code works when I'm writing it.

2024.05.15 19:39 Some-Donut-9875 Nerd question regarding how armor works

So I'm aware 1 point of armor just reduces damage taken from attacks by 1, but I'm wondering how this interacts with shield armor if the shield is about to run out.
Let's take Artanis' Dragoon from Co-op, which when fully upgraded has constant shield regeneration, 3 Shield Armor and 4 'Normal' Armor.
Imagine the Dragoon is sitting at 3/80 Shield points and 120/120 HP and a Hybrid hits it for 20 damage. So, does the 3 Shield Armor kick in, then expend the 3 shield points, letting 14 damage through, 4 'Normal' armor kicks in and Dragoon takes 10 HP of damage, or does the Shield Armor not apply because the attack manages to breach it?
To boil it down, does the Dragoon take 10 HP damage or 13 HP of damage?
This is kind of a big deal, because if shield armor applies whenever the unit has shields, that means Dragoons effectively have 7 armor because they generate shields constantly.
I have played SC2 for 7 years and don't know the answer.

2024.05.15 19:37 Jorrowz I finally quit gaming

Hi everyone, as the title says I have finally quit gaming and would like to share my story with you all. Beware, this will be a long one.
I've been playing games for such a long time, I don't even know when I actually started but it was at a young age. It used to always be casual, just an hour a day max, but slowly became more. Especially when my parents got divorced when I was 14, which struck me really hard (as it wasn't a good divorce) and I started to play games even more to get away from it all.
I couldn't focus properly at school because of it, so I stayed home a lot to play video games so my mind would be somewhere else. I had to re-do one year because of it and almost didn't even pass high school even though I was a smart kid and was actually supposed to study at a higher level than what I was doing.
I ended up graduating from high school at the age of 16 and went to college for only a year, I dropped out after that year to start working on myself and go back after a year. That didn't happen. I was supposed to get help, which I very much needed but never got. Not just because of gaming but also for my psychical and mental health.
Since the divorce I started eating a lot more and I was exercising less. Therefore I gained quite a bit of weight. I didn't feel comfortable being overweight but didn't want to go outside because I was ashamed of it even though no one ever said I was fat. I was (and still am obviously) 194cm (6'4) and the most I weighed was 130kg (287lbs).
I started looking for help myself at the age of 23 (which was already too late but better late than never). City hall (municipality) helped me with funds for a personal trainer to start losing weight. I ended up losing almost 30kg to about 102kg and I felt so much better. Besides losing weight I also had some daytime activities in the woods which were funded by city hall to get out of the house and do something which also helped losing weight, gain stamina, be more social and such which made me feel much better.
I was still playing video games though and eventually I got a foot injury (that is actually still ongoing, as a heavy thing of about 50kg fell on my foot from about 1 meter high). It's been a year since that happened and I'm not able to walk even 15 mins without pain. Ever since I've had a setback, I've not been able to go outside much and I've gained a bit of weight again and played video games every day again as before.
I've been to a physiotherapist and soon will go to a podiatrist to hopefully improve and eventually get rid of the pain. I can't wait to walk longer distances again without pain, at times I do go for longer walks but when I do I can't get out of bed because ow how much pain it gives.
Today, I sold my Xbox. Which was the only console I owned. I was playing video games for almost the entire day, 9-10 hours average every day for 8-9 years straight. I tried to quit many times without success, but this time feels different. I always told myself I want to succeed, but this time I'm telling myself I WILL succeed.
I'm 26 now and wasted so many years of my life because of gaming, I basically had no life. I still don't, but I will get there. I'm still young enough to make something of my life, now is the time. I always chose gaming over other things, not anymore.
Probably left quite a bit of details out, but this is most of it and I just wanted to get this off my chest and hopefully it might help others reading my story.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer. Thanks for reading.

2024.05.15 19:36 micktalian The Gardens of Deathworlders (Part 72)

Part 72 Gene mods (Part 1) (Part 71)
[Support me on Ko-fi so I can get some character commissions done and totally not buy more Gundams]
“Alright, calm down. It's really not that serious.” Though the holographic representation of War Chief Neshkaname, complete with ocean blue eyes and linear facial tattoos on his tan face, looked quite noticeably tired, his overall demeanor seemed fairly positive. “I just got out of a meeting with representatives from the different protesting groups and all of them agree with the general idea of what we're trying to do with our united defense fleet. There's just quite a bit of disagreement about how our Confederacy should approach the questions related to Earth, Mars, and everyone in Sol.”
“What kind of questions are we talking about here?” General Robert Andrews, the now former General of the US Army, was the first to speak up amongst the crowd of military leaders. “Nothing about invading Earth, I hope.”
“Well…” Though Rob was only half serious about his comment concerning Earth, the way the commanding officer of the Nishnabe Militia’s Blue Fleet began his response put a genuinely concerned expression on a few faces from Sol. “It's only a small percent of our population who are calling for war to reclaim land. A few million people at most, none of whom hold any positions of leadership in our military. Luckily, there are far more people calling for boycotts, embargoes, or blockades as opposed to anything direct.”
“War Chief, to many governments on Earth, an embargo, and especially a blockade, would be considered akin to a direct declaration of war.” General Renee Descartes, the former Chief of Defense Staff of France and Second in Command of the European Union's Unified Military, despite the dark bags under her eyes implying she hadn't gotten anywhere near enough sleep before this meeting, retained her rather elegant poise when adding that bit of necessary context. “You see, the economy of Earth is highly reliant on importing raw materials from space. With the climate being as delicate as it is, no one is willing to risk the kinds of planetside resource harvesting necessary to keep the thirteen billion people in the Earth’s Sphere of Influence employed, fed, and happy. More importantly, we are starting to run out of easily accessible mineral deposits in space.”
“Yes, the lunar mines and the near-Earth asteroid colonies still under UN-E control simply aren't producing nearly enough material to meet growing demand.” Admiral Nathaniel Adeoye, who had also given up his position as the Chief of Astral Naval Staff of the African Federation, chimed in with a clearly worried tone in his deep voice. “While I can understand the rage some of your people must feel, especially towards Americans, the many different people of Africa were in no way responsible for the colonization of America. In fact, we were subject to colonialism ourselves.”
“At least y'all still got yahr homelands!” Commandant General Daniel Chasinghorse, the former Commander of the entirety of MarsGov's Void-Marine Corps, didn't mean for his statement directed at Adeoye to sound as vitriolic as it did. However, the idea of him, his Lakota people, and all the displaced Native American Nations who were now mostly living in space or on Mars potentially being included in the Nishnabe’s reasonably negative reaction towards the people of Earth had put him on edge. “Sorry for snappin’ at yah like that, Nate. But the people livin’ on Mars ain't nothin’ done to deserve bein’ restricted by an embargo or blockade. We need all the extra-Solar tech we can get if we're gonna keep our population's health from declining even further. And I’m sure the African Lunar colonies could really use that medical and gravity tech too!”
“Nothing's been decided yet, and most people on Shkegpewen want peace, we just haven't reached a consensus on how that peace will look.” War Chief Msko Pkwenech, the commander of the Nishnabe Militia’s Red Fleet, interjected while making an open gesture with his hands to try to pat down the tension building up in this meeting room. “And if helps at all, we did take quite a few public votes concerning technology sharing for things we consider essential. But Maser probably has quicker access to the results than I would.”
“About ninety percent of respondents voted to immediately authorize and start sending out medical and gravity tech, including a production ship to come out and make things in-system, which is well above the seventy-five percent consensus needed to move forward.” As soon as the Light-born AI holographically representing their consciousness as an androgynous human began to speak in an incredibly soothing tone, the stress levels in the room began to fall. “There are currently a few councils debating the finer details and arranging logistics of what will be sent. However, the specifics of who gets what and when they get it will be negotiated between the respective governments in Sol and the Nishnabe Intergovernmental Council. Our job as the United Human Defense Fleet is not to interfere with diplomacy between nations, just to ensure that diplomacy is handled in a reasonable and non-threatening manner. Now, with that said, the vote to provide essential assistance was just one if a few taken over the last couple weeks. And while that poll was overwhelming and definitive, the ones concerning visas, immigration, galactic trade, and interspecies relations all fell below the consensus threshold for the Confederacy to adopt an official policy. When we say embargoes and blockades, we are purely referring to trade interactions between species, not between humanity and your economic exclusive zone. Once the relevant councils develop updated options for people to vote on, the next vote will be held.”
“An’ how long's all that gonna take?” Commandant Admiral Carol Nez, as the former head of MarsGov’s Astral Intelligence Collective and Councilmember in the Navajo Nation of Mars, was keenly aware of both the pressing urge of many on the red planet to live on a world with a breathable atmosphere and how just long it often took to for Native Nations to build a consensus. “Everaday we got at least a thousand babies born in Martian maternity stations an’ at least thirty percent ‘ave some kinda health issues. The sooner we get y'all's medical tech, the more kids that're gonna grow up to be happy an’ healthy!”
“We are well aware of the negative health implications of trying to raise children in low-gravity.” Msko already had his tablet out and was in the process of sending over the relevant information to his counterparts from Earth and Mars. “Our genetic modification technologies require individualized sequencing but they can be applied before or after birth to correct any serious issues. They can even be used well into adulthood. I got my eye color changed when I became an adult, so we can help anyone who hasn’t already gotten cybernetic replacements for affected body parts. All of our ships still in Sol are actively trying to produce as much of the base materials as they can and are working with doctors from your stations to get everything deployed as quickly as possible.”
“Why don’cha just teach our docs how to do it?” As soon as Carol got the question out, Msko and Nesh shot each other cautious glances before they both looked towards Maser.
“Well, Commandant Admiral Nez…” As soon as the hologram of the AI began to speak, it was clear their words were directed at everyone present from Sol. “To be completely blunt with all of you, we have reason to believe that the moment people from either Mars or Earth got full access to the genetic manipulation technology the Nishnabe utilize, someone would begin conducting experiments to turn humans into living weapons even more dangerous than the cybernetic ones you already produce. The cybernetics sported by many of your civilians would be legally considered military-grade combat modifications, and individuals with those cybernetics would be barred from entering many GCC standard space stations. We know there are doctors within both UN-E and MarsGov already working on projects to modify your species genome to produce what you call super soldiers, which something which is generally highly illegal under GCC laws. In fact, the genetic manipulation done to Sarah and Johnathan McAfree would likely be considered combat adjacent modifications according to GCC standards, and they would also be subject to various limitations due to their enhanced physiology.”
“Hey, now! Spooky an’ ‘er brother ain’t that scary!” Though he had been spending most of this meeting quietly sitting in his corner of the round table and trying to stay out of things he considered to be beyond his expertise, Professor Mikhail T. River felt compelled to say something now that his ex and her brother had been brought up. “Sure, she can bench press me. An’ Johnny can pick up the stove to sweep under it. But that ain't the gnarliest I ever seen! I mean, jus’ look at Comandante Harrison over here!”
/----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While the members of the United Human Defense Fleet Council were in their meeting and discussing the rumors of Nishnabe protests Sarah had also caught wind of, that was far above her paygrade. Despite a tinge of concern fluttering away in the back of the unusually tall and rather athletically built Scotswoman’s mind, she wasn't worried about the things she had no control over. At the moment, she, her rather short and somewhat pudgy mother, and her colossal but cognitively limited brother were relaxing in the stables of the opulent nature area aboard UHDF DS-1 and spending time with the unicorn-like kaehi'xito that Mik had gifted to them. Though the three gingers were each busy with different things most of the day, Donna and Johnny with their Nishnabemwin and remote job training courses while Sarah performed her role as an intelligence analyst, the small family from Glasgow truly cherished this time they got to spend together. And the fact they were bonding with the closest living creatures in the galaxy to unicorns only made this even better for all of them.
“Hey Sarah! There you are!” As soon as Miakorva's voice called out from the entrance to the stable building, Sarah, her family, and the three unicorn-like creatures turned to see the Qui’ztar approaching them with familiar canine at her side. “And look who I found wandering around the ship! Did you know that Mikhail lets her walk around unsupervised?”
“Hiya Mia!” Being the closest to the entrance, Johnny was the first to greet the lanky and seemingly muscular blue woman before he crouched down low and extended a hand towards the Cane Corso. “An’ Micky lets her roam cuz she's a good girlie. Isn't tha’ righ’, Terry?”
“Terry Good dog!” Terry’s soft but deep whine was translated by her collar while she approached the man with her tail vigorously wagging.
“Terry's a trained station guard dog, Mia.” Sarah added while shooting the Qui’ztar intelligence officer a cheeky wink and coy smile. “It's ‘er job to wander a station, ‘r in this case a ship, an’ be on the lookout for trouble. An’ now that she can talk, she's a perfect workin’ animal. But wha’s up? Were yah lookin’ for me?”
“Oh, yes. Yes, I was. But… uh…” Mia paused for a moment as she watched the massive beast of a dog place her paws on Johnny's shoulders and begin licking the man's face as if he had smothered some kind of invisible but quite tasty treat across his skin. “Isn’t there a concern that Terry may… Well… Hurt someone? Her species are non-sapient apex predators with strong hunting instincts, correct?”
“Tha's why she and most other workin’ dogs ‘re so well trained, love.” Donna replied with a giggle, the adorable display of affection between her son and Mik's dog forcing a massive smile across her freckled and slightly wrinkled face. “There's always a bit o’ risk with dogs, especially the biggins like Terry ‘ere. But if these unicorns aren't freakin’ out cuz o’ ‘er, then we don’ gotta be worried.”
“Kaehi'xito didn’t evolve with canine predators, so they likely don't even recognize her as a potential threat.” As Mia watched the beast of a dog lean more of her weight on to Johnny, she half expected the large and well-built man to fall over from the force. However, much to her surprise, the man stopped his energetic scratching on Terry's sides, wrapped his arms around her waist, and effortlessly lifted the gargantuan animal into the air, all the while it continued to lick his face. “But seeing you carry that creature like a baby would be enough to make almost anyone with caniphobia be cautiously curious about these creatures. And they must not be as heavy as they look if you can pick one up so easily.”
“Oh, Terry’s a thickin! At least fifteen stone!” In a motion that seemed in utter opposition to Johnny's comment, the man half-tossed the Cane Corso into the air so that he could reposition his hands to cradle the massive canine as if she were a literal baby. “But she's still a good lil pupper, ain't yah, Terry?”
“Terry, good baby!” Though Terry hadn't started flailing or showing any obvious signs of discomfort, she suddenly turned her head towards Sarah with a longing look in her golden eyes. “Pack-mother cuddle?”
“Yeah, sure, yah big ol’ lunk.”
Though Mia could believe a man as impressively large as Johnny may not have much difficulty in lifting a hundred kilo canine, she was completely flabbergasted by Sarah's ability to simply pull Terry from Johnny's grasp and continue to hold the animal up without even the slightest indication of strain. Not only had she just gotten confirmation that this creature was just as heavy as she thought, Miakorva was now being faced with the fact that the woman she had been cuddling with a night for quite some time was significantly stronger than she had realized. According to all the interspecies education she had received, which may have been slightly biased by the Qui’ztar professor teaching the courses, her own species had the highest ratio of strength to body mass of any Ascended species. And while she was aware that this woman she had formed a relationship with weighed about the same as she did despite being several centimeters shorter, Mia had yet to witness Sarah's capabilities demonstrated in such a casual manner.
“By the Matriarch, Sarah!” The lanky blue woman couldn't help herself as her bioluminescent freckles lit up at the shocking display of strength. “How are you that strong?!?”
“Gene mods.” Though Sarah didn't hesitate in her answer, she did wince slightly as she did so. “Me muscles’re almost twice as dense as the average human's. Tha's actually somethin’ I had to talk to Maser an’ NAN abou’ the other day. ‘Parently tha’ ain't a thing most species do for some reason. Bu’ I'm pre’y sure we talked abou’ tha’ already.”
“You did mention it but… Well… I didn't realize your people's genetic engineering was that sophisticated. But I guess that does confirm a couple of the rumors I've heard that I was going to ask you about.”
“Wha’ rumors?” Donna blurted out with a bit too defensive of a tone as her eyes fell upon her son who had gone back to brushing his vaguely moose-like unicorn. “An’ who's spreadin’ ‘em?”
“Well…” Mia hesitated for a moment, causing the two Scotswomen to shoot her suspicious looks. “I was assisting with the logistical planning with the Nishnabe in charge of the distribution of medicine to people on Earth and Mars, most of which involved genetic modification serums. And when I asked why there was no plan, or even consideration, of passing on the technology so it could be locally produced, the people I was working with told me there were rumors of… Well… My people would call it Qui'kijarto niko'txo, which would roughly translate to an enhanced soldier project.”
“Yahr people tried to make super soldiers, too?” Sarah asked with a laugh that implied a sense of relief.
“No!” The instant denial caused Sarah to cease her laughter and forced a slight frown on her rather pale and freckled face. “As soon as my people began developing genetic engineering almost thirty thousand years ago, our government and scientific community came together to completely outlaw any attempts to enhance our form in a way that would make us even deadlier in combat. Besides that, even after thirty thousand years of research, we have only recently mastered the ability to stabilize our genetics and guard against speciation due to diverse environmental conditions.”
“Yah really tryin to tell us yahr people never tried to improve themselves?” The older Scotswoman chimed in with a clearly doubtful expression. “No one ever tried to give their kids an advantage in life? Super soldiers experiments ain't the only thing we use gene modding for.”
“Well… No… I don’t believe we ever have.” Mia hadn't really put much thought into it, even when she and Sarah had talked about it before. But now she was starting to realize that an attempt to give a child an advantage in life by increasing their physical capabilities could directly translate to turning that child into an ideal soldier. “As far as I know, very few other species have engaged in that form of genetic modification. And the ones who have tried struggled to produce anything truly successful.”
“Gene mods ain't always successful, Mia.” Johnny didn't bother to look away from the unicorn he was brushing as he made the comment lest he see the sadness that suddenly appeared in his mother's eyes. “Bu’ I learned the other day tha’ Nishnabe gene tech is way better than wha’ we got on Earth. Maybe they'll ‘ave some stuff to teach us after they feel we're trustworthy enough to learn it.”

Help with Butterworth and Sallen-key filters
Hi there, I got an exam on this Friday on a course on 'Linear Signals and System' at DTU - Technical University of Denmark - but I got some question that I can't seem to find answers to (maybe my Googling skills are not up for the task) in the course-material, specifically Sallen-Key filters and Butterworth Filter (actually, filters in general). As far as I understand, Sallen-key, is just a type of filter configuration, and Butterworth filters are a type of filters that has as "flat of a frequency response as possible" (w.e that means?). I've posted the questions that really challenged by understanding of these topics. If anyone could help me understand how to solve these types of questions (not only so I can answer correctly, but also understand the topic even better) then that would be MUCH appreciated. (The question has been translated by me from Danish to English, so sorry if they don't use the exact terminology as they would be in English, I've done my best):

What I've got so far:
Question 1
My intuition tells me it is either the first one or the last one, cause usually, a lowpass filter will have its impedance go to 0 as the frequency rises. Now, I would assume it would be the last one, since it is in series with R4, and would thus reduce the total impedance of that. Though, I am not sure this is the correct way to think about it.
Question 2:
Option 1: I've seen the equation prior, though I don't recall it being the a defining characteristic frequency.
Option 2: This seems wrong on a mathematically defining level, since complex conjugates are a change in signs for the imaginary parts, not the real parts.
Option 3: This seems wrong to me, I don't see a reason for why it couldn't be two critically dampened systems.
Question 3:
I plugged some values into the quality equations and saw what happened as I changed the values according to option 2. I saw that the statement looked to be true. With respect to option 1 and 3, I have no idea of how to even start thinking about them. I did sub in the equalities as stated, this would lead to the equations only being dependent on the restances in the 1st option, and capacitance in option 3. I would assume this would mean they actually are really sensitive to changes to those components. But then again, I am not sure that makes sense.
Question 4:Option 1: This seems to make some sense, since we've been provided with the following table:
https://preview.redd.it/gdmte8ysom0d1.png?width=652&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9124738c6e2a82af13dfdd2a34f0942856dd94f
But I could be using it wrong.
Option 2: The choice in capacitance seems complete random, and I have no idea how to evaluate it.
Option 3: It makes sense from what I understand regarding scaling, but this is not my strongest topic as I've said, so I really don't know about this one.
Option 4: I would assume switching values and moving the conner frequency would change the time constant, so this seems wrong
Again, I am not sure about any of this, thus I ask for help here 😅. I would like to understand these topics better for my exam, but I can't find reasource that can explain it to me in a way that makes sense to me.
Again, thanks for helping me, it is much appreciated.

2024.05.15 19:24 Mediocre-Medicine862 Mega knight is the most op card

Mega knight is the most op card
Clash Royale, developed by Supercell, is a highly popular real-time strategy game that has captured the attention of millions of players worldwide. Among its diverse roster of cards, one card has consistently stood out due to its perceived overpowered nature: the Mega Knight. Released in August 2017, the Mega Knight quickly became a dominant force in the game, sparking debates within the community about its balance and fairness. This essay aims to delve into the reasons why the Mega Knight is considered so overpowered, examining its stats, abilities, versatility, and the broader implications on game dynamics.
Understanding the Mega Knight: Stats and Abilities
To comprehend why the Mega Knight is often deemed overpowered, it is essential to first understand its basic stats and abilities. The Mega Knight is a legendary card that costs 7 elixir to deploy. Its primary attributes include:
  1. High Hitpoints: The Mega Knight boasts a significant amount of health, allowing it to withstand substantial damage before being taken down. This makes it a formidable tank unit capable of soaking up hits while protecting more fragile troops behind it.
  2. Spawn Damage: Upon deployment, the Mega Knight deals a considerable amount of area damage to all enemy troops in its landing zone. This ability alone can decimate swarms of low-health troops, giving the player an immediate advantage on the battlefield.
  3. Jump Attack: One of the Mega Knight's unique abilities is its jump attack. When an enemy troop or building is at a certain distance, the Mega Knight leaps towards it, dealing massive area damage upon landing. This jump attack can quickly eliminate or severely weaken multiple troops, disrupting the opponent's strategy.
  4. Area Damage and Splash Radius: The Mega Knight’s regular attacks are also area-of-effect (AOE), meaning it can damage multiple troops with each swing. This makes it particularly effective against swarm units and clusters of troops.
  5. Decent Damage Output: While the Mega Knight’s primary role is that of a tank, it also deals a respectable amount of damage per hit. This combination of high health and considerable damage output makes it a dual-threat on the battlefield.
Versatility and Strategic Impact
The Mega Knight’s versatility is a significant factor contributing to its overpowered status. Its ability to both absorb damage and deal substantial AOE damage makes it effective in a variety of scenarios:
  1. Defensive Capabilities: On defense, the Mega Knight excels at countering swarms and high-damage, low-health units. Its spawn damage and AOE attacks can quickly clear out threats such as the Skeleton Army, Goblin Gang, and Minion Horde. This defensive utility can provide a strong counter to many popular offensive strategies, forcing opponents to rethink their approach.
  2. Offensive Potential: Offensively, the Mega Knight can lead a push or support other units. When paired with ranged attackers or support troops like the Electro Wizard or Witch, the Mega Knight can serve as a tank, absorbing hits while the support troops deal damage from behind. Its jump attack also allows it to target and eliminate key defensive structures, paving the way for a successful push.
  3. Dual-Role Effectiveness: The Mega Knight’s ability to perform well both offensively and defensively makes it a highly flexible card. Players can deploy it in response to an opponent’s push and then use it to lead a counter-push, maximizing its value and efficiency.
Psychological Impact and Meta Influence
Beyond its in-game stats and abilities, the Mega Knight’s perceived overpowered nature also has psychological and meta-game implications:
  1. Intimidation Factor: The Mega Knight’s imposing presence and devastating abilities can intimidate opponents. Knowing that a player has the Mega Knight in their deck can cause opponents to play more cautiously, potentially leading to suboptimal decisions and mistakes.
  2. Influence on Deck Building: The dominance of the Mega Knight has influenced the meta-game, with players adjusting their decks to either include the Mega Knight or to specifically counter it. This can lead to a homogenization of strategies, where certain decks and cards become more prevalent while others are pushed out of the meta due to their ineffectiveness against the Mega Knight.
  3. Frustration and Player Retention: The perception of the Mega Knight as overpowered can lead to frustration among players, particularly those who feel that their losses are due to an imbalance rather than skill. This frustration can impact player retention, with some players potentially leaving the game due to perceived unfairness.
Balancing Challenges and Community Feedback
Balancing a game like Clash Royale is a complex and ongoing process, and the Mega Knight presents unique challenges in this regard:
  1. Balancing Act: Supercell must balance the Mega Knight to ensure it remains a viable and appealing card without being overly dominant. This requires careful adjustments to its stats and abilities, taking into account feedback from the community and data on win rates and usage rates.
  2. Community Feedback: Player feedback is a crucial component of the balancing process. The Clash Royale community is vocal and passionate, providing valuable insights into the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the Mega Knight. Supercell must sift through this feedback to identify legitimate concerns and address them appropriately.
  3. Impact of Changes: Any changes to the Mega Knight must be carefully considered to avoid unintended consequences. For example, nerfing the Mega Knight’s damage or health too significantly could render it ineffective, while too small of a change might not address the community’s concerns.
Countering the Mega Knight: Strategies and Cards
While the Mega Knight is undeniably powerful, it is not invincible. There are several strategies and cards that can effectively counter it:
  1. Building Placement: Proper placement of defensive buildings such as the Inferno Tower or Cannon can help distract and damage the Mega Knight, preventing it from reaching key targets. These buildings can absorb the Mega Knight’s attacks and buy time for other troops to chip away at its health.
  2. High-Damage, Single-Target Units: Units that deal high single-target damage, such as the P.E.K.K.A or Mini P.E.K.K.A, can effectively counter the Mega Knight. These units can quickly whittle down the Mega Knight’s health, especially when supported by other troops or buildings.
  3. Swarm Units: While the Mega Knight excels at dealing with swarm units, carefully timed and spaced deployment of swarms such as the Skeleton Army or Bats can overwhelm it. Additionally, using spells like Zap or Log to clear out support troops can make it easier for swarms to focus on the Mega Knight.
  4. Air Units: Since the Mega Knight cannot attack air units, deploying air-based troops such as the Minion Horde or Baby Dragon can provide a significant advantage. These units can deal damage to the Mega Knight without fear of retaliation, provided they are not countered by other enemy troops or spells.
Conclusion
The Mega Knight’s overpowered nature in Clash Royale is the result of a combination of factors, including its impressive stats, versatile abilities, and psychological impact on the game. While it offers a unique and exciting gameplay experience, its dominance also poses challenges for game balance and player satisfaction. Supercell’s ongoing efforts to balance the Mega Knight through community feedback and careful adjustments are crucial to maintaining a fair and enjoyable game environment. Ultimately, understanding and countering the Mega Knight requires strategic thinking and adaptability, highlighting the depth and complexity of Clash Royale’s gameplay.

Expanded Sections for a 5000-Word Essay

In-Depth Analysis of the Mega Knight's Stats and Abilities
To appreciate the extent of the Mega Knight’s power, a detailed breakdown of its stats and abilities is necessary. When deployed at tournament standard levels, the Mega Knight has 3,300 hitpoints, deals 240 spawn damage, and its jump attack inflicts 480 damage. This means that it can instantly eliminate or severely damage troops such as Archers, Musketeer, and even mini-tanks like the Knight.
Its spawn damage, in particular, is a game-changer. When the Mega Knight is deployed amidst a group of enemy troops, it can turn the tide of a battle instantly. For instance, a well-timed deployment can wipe out an entire push of low to medium health troops, forcing the opponent to rethink their strategy.
The jump attack’s ability to target both troops and buildings is another critical factor. This ability allows the Mega Knight to bypass distractions and directly target high-value units or structures, dealing substantial damage and disrupting the opponent’s formation. The cooldown between jumps, typically 1.8 seconds, is balanced to prevent excessive spamming but remains quick enough to make the Mega Knight a continuous threat on the battlefield.
The Role of the Mega Knight in Different Deck Archetypes
The Mega Knight’s versatility allows it to fit into various deck archetypes, each benefiting uniquely from its capabilities:
  1. Beatdown Decks: In beatdown decks, which focus on building a massive push with high-hitpoint units, the Mega Knight serves as both a primary tank and a support killer. Paired with cards like the Golem or Giant, the Mega Knight can clear out defensive swarms and provide a protective barrier for these units to reach the opponent’s tower.
  2. Control Decks: Control decks aim to defend against enemy pushes and gradually wear down the opponent. The Mega Knight’s defensive prowess makes it an excellent choice for these decks, as it can counter various offensive strategies while providing opportunities for counter-attacks.
  3. Bridge Spam Decks: Bridge spam decks rely on quickly deploying units at the bridge to pressure the opponent. The Mega Knight’s ability to jump to targets makes it a formidable addition to these decks, allowing for rapid, high-damage assaults that can catch opponents off guard.
  4. Hybrid Decks: Hybrid decks combine elements of different strategies to create versatile and unpredictable gameplay. The Mega Knight’s flexibility makes

Not sure what to ask my doctor at this point
26 (F) Hello, I usually never post on here but I am at my limit. I have been having non specific symptoms that have been on and off for over a year. Abdominal pain, chest pain, vertigo, occult blood in urine on and off, and recently crazy hair shedding. All my test have come back normal besides my ANA which came back Abnormal 1:160. I have had so many tests done: pelvic ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound, EKG, abdominal CT, abdominal x-ray, and a chest x ray. All fine. My doctor is very understanding and patient but he told me that my ANA is only mildly so and unlikely significant. I feel in my heart that my symptoms are related and have to do with my abnormal ANA.
I have an aunt who had Lupus so I thought it could have been that but I had a DNA (ds) antibody test done to confirm and it came back normal. So now I am at a lost. I don’t want to have an autoimmune disease but at this point I just need an answer to move on to treatment. I have yet to be prescribed anything because of my normal labs. I have an appointment at the end of May and I have no clue what to ask for at my next visit to get to the bottom of this. Any suggestions?

2024.05.15 19:22 SeanHagen Upgrading battery capacity on UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

Hey all, I made a post about this a couple of days ago, and I just realized that the body of text didn't post correctly for some reason, hence the lack of responses haha.
It was a long post and I'll be happy to fill in the details or answer any questions, but the TLDR is that a friend gave me this APC Back-UPS 450 because the battery was dead. I'm wondering if, rather than replacing the stock 12V 5Ah battery, if I can instead use a 12V 35Ah battery. I'm just getting into electronics, so I don't have a ton of experience or knowledge. But I have a 3D printer and lots of electronic parts, and I intend to print a new case for the UPS's electronic components, complete with heatsinks, cooling fans, and adequate venting in order to mitigate any issues that may arise from the extended runtime that will be incurred, beyond the runtime for which the unit was designed.
Will this be enough to address all of the potential issues, or are there other considerations that I'm missing? Will the charger still perform as expected with this larger battery, etc.? Thank you very much for any advice! I'll refrain from adding all the bells & whistles to this post so that the text body hopefully posts this time, but here is the link to my unit: https://www.apc.com/us/en/product/BN450M/apc-backups-450va-120v-6-nema-outlets-2-surge-battery-is-not-user-replaceable/
And the batteries are lead-acid batteries that are common to these "disposable" UPS units. Here is the larger one that I plan on using, and the original stock replacement battery is just a smaller 5Ah version of this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K8E0WAG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

2024.05.15 19:20 Aginagala WWF In Your House - Revenge of the Taker 1997 Review

Welcome back to my running series of WWF PPV Reviews from a ‘blind’ perspective (I have no idea what’s going to happen; the results, the feuds or how good any of the matches will be). I have always heard stories of the attitude era and golden age but never watched it myself so I set myself to watching every single PPV event chronologically. I am also watching Wrestling Bios ‘reliving the war’ series to keep me updated inbetween the events with the feuds, and to get excited about upcoming matches.
Before I review the matches, based on the past few episodes of raw and last PPVs I’ll let you know, going into the event, which match I’m most excited for and which feud I’m most excited to see.
Another stone cold vs Bret hart match has to steal my match im most excited for this time round.
And feud wise once again it’s Bret hart vs Austin you just simply have nothing close to this feud in the WWF right now.
WWF In Your House - Revenge of the Taker 1997 Match Ratings
LOD vs Bulldog & Owen Hart 2.75/5
Savio Vega vs Rocky Maivia 1.25/5
Jesse James vs Rockabilly 0.5/5
Mankind vs Undertaker 4.25/5
Bret Hart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin 4.25/5
Tag team action in the wwf is majorly improving now; there’s a few teams I look forward to seeing, and the two teams in the opening match are both in this category.
I actually thought in terms of an opener this was a really well booked match. It had some unique drama; some very good moves by LOD and the new Hart Foundation and a good finish to continue the feud. Bulldog ends up getting pinned but as the illegal man so the match continues which I was very happy with as I was enjoying the match and the crowd was too! It usually takes a while for the crowd to get going but they were instantly into this bout and you can’t blame them. I really hope we get more of this duo of teams because they have some great entertaining chemistry. Bret hart ends up coming to the ring when LOD looks like they’re gunna win and the champions retain as a result of a DQ, I wouldn’t have minded a title change but it was a good heel finish. One of the better openers for the events I’ve seen so far. FINALLY making tag teams worth watching. Owen hart is playing the cowardly heel extremely well and it’s very easy to route for LOD as baby faces, just a great opener to the event.
Now I may have my bias but I’m really enjoying seeing Rocky’s intercontinental title reign, although the crowd aren’t really into his character he’s still an above average wrestler and still entertaining in my opinion, he’s still having some decent matches (maybe not this one) and I look forward to seeing him wrestle.
With all that being said, I don’t think this was a great match on either part. The crowd was quiet as either competitor never really seemed to get going or have any great chemistry in the squared circle. Usually I can find some enjoyment out of a Rocky match, and seeing the rock bottom for the first time was a pretty hype moment for me. The match had a really boring finish though, with Rocky being sent to the outside, hitting crush and being counted out, retaining the title. Really not much to say here, but to be fair to Rocky he didn’t really have much to work with the booking of this match. At this point the crowd didn’t care either way.
Man… the next match though oh boy I think the less said about this the better. This… is the pay off after months of the honky tonk man looking for his new prodigy, and how to kill a crowd 101 takes place right here. The gimmick of rockabilly just did not work at all for me and it was quite simply sh*t. I preferred him as a heel even if it wasn’t great it was better than… whatever this was. The actual wrestling was below average, and rockabilly should stick to tag team wrestling he just can’t do singles matches. I thought Jesse James was okay but if you listen to the crowd during this match it was silent, and that’s completely how I feel. Just avoid this one like the plague.
Mankind and the Undertaker are up next and we haven’t seen these two share a ring together in a while so I’m very excited to see what they can pull off. And with this promo video before the match that genuinely would’ve probably given me nightmares as a kid, HOPEFULLY this can reignite this event.
And it makes me so happy to see a great undertaker match, I really enjoyed this one and it had some brutal moments. Notably mankind going literally headfirst through a table which was a fu**ing mental bump to do. I have no idea why the ref didn’t stop the match when mankind smashed a glass cylinder on undertaker and blatantly headshot undertaker with a steel chair right in front of him, was it a no DQ match or not I don’t understand that. But it was genuinely entertaining. I loved this match it was a typically well paced match by undertaker, who’s able to slow it down whilst still keeping it entertaining which is something almost no one else can do (ESPECIALLY NOT SID). Mankind is just a lunatic with the bumps he sets himself up to take, he’s always been a very anticipated wrestler to watch simply because of how mad he is. Undertaker really showcased how good he is in this match and I’m really looking forward to this title reign, I hope it lasts a while because when he has the right opponent he can pull of some absolute bangers. This match didn’t overstay its welcome either at a nice 17 minutes it was just right. Also I want to note mankind hit two really good looking piledrivers in a row and being able to do that with someone as massive as undertaker is seriously impressive. It wasn’t a wrestling masterclass, it wasn’t pretty but it sure was entertaining and the crowd absolutely loved it. If you’re an undertaker fan and enjoyed the mankind feud it’s definitely worth a watch.
After the match undertaker FINALLY gets revenge on Paul bearer for all his bullst he’s been pulling by literally burning him with a f*ing fireball, the same thing that mankind did a couple of weeks prior. There was this weird segment after the match before this burn where undertaker was circling the ring and it looked like mankind was trying to put something on his finger I’m not sure what happened here, but as usual such a good feud. Great match great promo awesome feud.
Now we get the main event and what needs to be said, it’s Austin vs hart you’re gunna be excited especially after wrestlemania 13. I think the hart foundation is pulling off its heel angle really well and it brings a little more to an already fantastic feud. Let’s see what they’ve got for us this time.
First off I wanna say no one exchanges punches like stone cold and Bret hart, the way they do it just something about it is so f***ing awesome, the selling the characters the way the feet are positioned I have no idea but I LOVE IT! What I didn’t enjoy as much this time around was the complete focus of Bret hart on Austin’s knee. Let me elaborate, although it made sense with him as a technical and intelligent wrestler, and made even more sense for him as a heel it really slowed the match down for a while and there was a long section where it wasn’t really all too interesting, just Bret pulling the same moves to the knee over and over, but that’s just me personally. I know how good of a wrestler he was and I was more interested to see that classic style wrestling he’s so well known for, that’s all I’m saying.
The comebacks by Austin were such hype moments though, he’s just such a perfect character for the WWF and you can see why he became such a megastar. Austin really sold this match well though he never once forgot about the knee injury and pressure Bret had put on him, purposefully botching moves to show his knee giving out was super believable, I actually thought at points he would have to stop because his knee was really that injured.
The DQ finish was a little iffy for me because yet again we’re yet to see one of these legends truly lose, but if it means we get more of them then I’m all for it. After the match it looks like Austin is gunna get assaulted even more from the save from bulldog but Austin counters, smashing the chair into Bret, the crowd is going bonkers! Then Austin hits another shooting star press and the crowd is going even more nuts!! He’s getting some revenge for the last match at wrestlemania. It takes five refs to manage to pull Austin off and god this is such a great moment. I cannot get enough of these two in the ring their chemistry is just electric; a perfect rivalry. It ends with more iconic shots of Austin celebrating in the ring and he’s gone baby face at this point and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! What a blessed time to be a wrestling fan this was. While this wasn’t on the level of their classic survivor series and wrestlemania matches it was still a class act and well worth watching. Can these two miss??
Also as a side note what are the refs doing unless I’m missing something; multiple chair shots in what I thought were normal matches (DQs from chair shots) happened in more than one match. I’m assuming they’re just letting this stuff unfold because people popped for it? Either way it’s extremely entertaining just a little confusing.
Overall the event had a good opener, a really bad mid card, but finished very strong with two great main events. It’s nice to see tag team action getting some love and becoming interesting to watch. And undertaker really improving his in ring ability after he was able to gain a bit more freedom following the buried alive match, this makes him an attraction on his own already. Austin and hart continue to deliver in the main event scene (I’m calling their WM13 the main event) and I’m pretty sure at this point you can consider Austin as a superstar in the WWF. It’s been fantastic also seeing this rivalry and Bret hart wrestle as I’d never seen any of it before so it feels like a proper treat watching all this unfold.
Overall rating 3.5/5

2024.05.15 19:19 x993231 X From Ihub with a few thoughts See some of you next week

Lol now ihub punk is asking “What is the current sales pipeline for Lightwave Logic's polymer modulators and other products? Can you share any details on the size and timing of potential deals with the 20+ major corporations that have viewed the technology demo?"
"When do you anticipate Lightwave Logic will achieve its first $1 million revenue quarter? What milestones need to be hit to reach that level of quarterly sales?"
"What is the company's plan to become cash flow positive and profitable? When do you expect Lightwave Logic to reach profitability?”
Punkin has come a long way, he used to say that it could never be done, now he keeps falling back, apparently trying to hold the line, lol, now he is asking questions about revenue and dang even invoking God to help humanity as his reason for posting in his credentials. Even if one thinks that they are right that is quite a statement, typically something that a reasonable person keeps to themselves a life's effort is something between them and their creator. I have no idea where this technology will lead or what it will solve, my goal is an investment, certainly not divine, I have no clue in the end who it will truly benefit but the medical thing does have potential.
Today I'm happy with thousands of modulators on a foundry produced wafer. And thousands of modulators from a few ounces of Perkinamine. These modulators Triple the speed, reduce the power and are 1/30 the size of today's modulators. Lebby will fill us in on what we need, he is far more intelligent than anyone on this board.
Read on folks.
Oh and do not forget about those that sold early (or didn’t sell early) that purport to be long and like to consistently complain every single time the price drops. Let me try to explain it this way, this is not a sports game, this is a technology, so unlike sports, points can be literally be taken of the scoreboard by simply borrowing and selling shares (shorts). Remember though that those shares must be purchased back and until then the actual score of the game is not known. So the shorts agenda is to sell it down then try and convince folks to sell them shares at that discounted price. Some longs do not understand that they are helping the shorts at their game. That being said, there are currently 17% more shares sold than exist. They have borrowed those shares and pay interest daily and have sold them to us with the hope of buying them back at a reduced price (Some purported longs even try to help them) apparently, they think that if they complain it will force an NVDA, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon to reach an agreement with Lightwave sooner. Well, it will not change the speed of the adoption of the technology, I’m all for doing a tier1 agreement, but a few quick little agreements could force their hand so the Tier1’s do not have to have to honor those agreements should the company be taken over. Some seam to forget that until now Silicon photonics could keep up, but no more and with AI we just entered a new world, where the pace set by Moore's Law for silicon photonics is leisurely compared to this new demand. AI is totally on a sprint, with its computational power doubling not every two years, but approximately every six months.
Let me look at what the shorts have said over the years basically throwing spaghetti at the wall and have been proven wrong. Patents were filed in 2020, 2021, ALD I think was 2022. Patents were not made public, the shorts were babbling meanwhile Lebby had not only solved it but wrote and submitted patents.
Here are the 10 top B.S. short myths, trying to suppress the stock so they could try and cover I also think that there are a few purported longs that sold prematurely that are now helping to push the shorts game forward, meanwhile with the next deal announcement the dam is about to burst.
I’d love to see Punkin hold a conversation with Lebby one on one for 5 minutes, it would be hilarious,
Shorts and those paid by the shorts to act like they “know something” won't even tell you when they are short, they just say, no not short just here to spend my life 7 days a week helping folks that I have never met. Well, here they are, you tell me guys.
1.) The shorts had worked for months to try and convince investors that Lightwave had a problem poling. Then low and behold Lightwave unveiled 2 patents they submitted years prior solving that issue.
2.) The shorts claimed for years Lightwave could not protect the device in anything other than a gold box, then Lightwave unveiled the ALD patent that they had acquired. Basically, hair spray over the finished chip is all that is needed. The foundries are using the same thing over the electronics side of the chip. Understand that even if someone else invents an EO Polymer Lightwave Owns the Patent on ALD over Polymers. Comprende?
3.) The shorts claimed Lightwaves material was not stable, Wham Bam blown out of the water yet again.
4.) Shorts said that Lightwave could never get this under 1 volt, well Lightwave did, in fact Lightwaves polymer is so sensitive that their modulators can function without the aid of driver to boost the voltage. Basically the electrons in the 1's and 0's rolling off the silicon can embed themselves into the laser using Lightwaves polymer. Oh and by the way, Lightwave also owns the patent on a driverless Polymer Modulator. Even if someone perfects a stable sensitive EO polymer when the want to do direct drive, they have to come knocking on Lightwaves door with cash in hand.
5.) For the 6 months leading up to last years annual shareholder meeting the shorts stated Lightwave could not close a commercial deal all the then like now trying to convince us that the sky was falling and once again Lebby delivered.
6.) For months the shorts said Lightwave could not use anything other than gold on their electrodes, well guess the F what, yup, once again (at the shareholders meeting) Lebby put up a slide of successful foundry runs and when asked by me if the contacts labeled AL on the slide stood for Aluminum Lebby said “yes, we use that any many other materials as well”. I asked about aluminum corrosion, the response was, X (you idiot) that is what the ALD will also protect.
7.) The Shorts were trying to convince longs that the foundry had not made progress on PDK’s, Lebby certainly blew them out of the water on that as well. As info PDK’s are process development kits, it is how the foundries make Lightwaves devices available to the public so when an NVDA’s, Amazon (AWS), Cisco or Fujitsu are designing devices they can check that box and add that to their device in the foundry. 2 weeks ago lebby said the foundries have thousands of modulators per wafer. On question that I need to understand is that with thousands of devices on a wafer how many of those thousands of modulators are affected by the kerf when dicing (sawing or scribing?)
8) The shorts used to say that it couldn’t me done now as you see Pumpkin is asking Yes but “What is the current sales pipeline for Lightwave Logic's polymer modulators? Can you share any details on the size and timing of potential deals with the 20+ major corporations that have viewed the technology demo? When do you anticipate Lightwave Logic will achieve its first $1 million revenue quarter? What milestones need to be hit to reach that level of quarterly sales? What is the company's plan to become cash flow positive and profitable? When do you expect Lightwave Logic to reach profitability?” Lol, Lol and again Lol It sounds like Pumpkin is finally being honest, perhaps it is by divine intervention on his posts
9) As info the institutions now own 26% of the shares, The shorts would have us believe that is irrelevant, wait what?
10) I like this, Ted who also has another ID said that he gets his info from the internet because everything on it is true. When asked why he does not use first-hand information he said that he is not good at reading people, lol and yet he watches every video with baited breath.
I know some do not see it but as evidenced by their latest efforts the shorts are worried and it is obvious that whomever they got their info from was consistently years behind making up issues that had in fact already been solved. I would not want to have been an advisor to the shorts.
Lightwave is finally at the stage where they have the patents in place, moved into additional lab space, hired additional lab personnel for making larger quantities of perkinamine, (a few fluid ounces can make thousands of devices) the new lab will be equipped to test larger quantities of chips coming back from foundries, work on new polymers for additional devices (they even have another polymer available for licensing) produce data sheets, standardize bulk testing, they have even hired a dedicated deal maker, oh also a V.P. dedicated just to working with foundries that are actively running wafers. Now they have added a former Intel deal maker to the board of directors.
Soon this thing will in fact snowball because the industry's "go to" good old silicon photonics has hit the wall it simply cannot run faster. Lightwaves material when added applied to Silicon triples the speed and because it is so sensitive it is 30times smaller and uses 1/10 the power all at a time when AI is pushing the amount of data processed by the data centers through the roof.
~Some of us were wondering why the Lightwave employees were still in town (apparently held over) for an extra 2 days over after the OFC San Frisco meeting, now we see that there were no less than 20 companies that apparently requested an unscheduled impromptu demo on a holiday week (good Friday) after the convention was over. Not only did Lightwave employees not go home but it sounds like a bunch of Tier 1’s and such saw it as important enough to see ASAP. And yes while many on here say that NDA’s do not exist, LOL I’ll bet that not only were NDA’s mandatory but I bet that every demo was “private” by scheduled appointment only and also attended by the various expert employees at Lightwave to get the most bang for the buck.~
Lightwave makes the thing that makes the component better anyone communicating using fiber optics needs it, the entire industry needs it. Think if BASF produces a chemical that makes paint last longer. Why would the paint manufacture tell its competitors what makes their paint so durable. Lightwave is going partner with many and they will simply sell devices that are faster and require less energy, those companies are not going to tell the competition what they do to make that happen. Lightwave will quietly market to the tier1's and they will insist on it in their data centers and devices. The one exception that I see is that if the foundry runs were paid for by Lightwave Logic (vs. say an amazon or facebook etc) Lightwave would do joint public PR of where the industry can order chips with Lightwaves Perkinamine on it (It is called checking the box on the PDK).
The shorting situation will be solved by additional Partnerships and look out when those Partnerships are accompanied by a dividend in a new 3rd party company licensing say the ability to develop the Lidar device market or for the biotech crowd a medical sensing partner, wham short situation solved in short order. Remember that currently they are only talking about Telcom 2km to 10km market but there are so many more.
Currently 1k difference between the buys and sells changed it 1 penny. Folks this is just normal trading without any pressure on the price. This time next week we’ll either be in the lab or in the meeting.
Still trying to digest the effects of T+1 on the shorts especially the foreign exchange rate, Fails To Deliver, Naked shorting etc. it is coming the Tuesday after Memorial Day (Holiday in the U.S., which is the weekend after the Shareholders Meeting), Finra Settlement Date 5/31 which then will mean a trade date of 5/30.
Short Game, Market Maker Game, Institution Game, changing technology
Check it out rainy day so I thought I’d look Punkin “I never said any of those things in that context. I’m just here doing Gods work” https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=174419282 That was in reply to JimJet218’s statement. 1. Couldn't be poled. https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=169035142&txt2
  1. Needed a gold case. https://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/read_msg.aspx?message_id=170733222&txt2

2024.05.15 19:16 Grand_Ad9783 FINALLY GOT APPROVED FOR TREATMENT! Would you say this is a good price per session? And any ways I can get it lower? (United HealthCare)

Long story short, I was diagnosed with Epilepsy a few years ago and after a long battle I got approval from my neurologist & psychiatrist to start the treatment!
I have United Healthcare and each session with cost about $200 (including my co-pay as noted below). Would you say this is a pretty decent price? And do you think I'd have a shot with calling UHC to try getting them to cover some of it?
I was sent all of my paperwork this morning, along with a sheet that goes over what to expect with the treatment, the cost per session, etc. I have been researching Ketamine Therapy for over a year and would have been curious to see this, so I've included it below for anyone who cares!
" We like to inform anyone interested in receiving treatments on what to expect and what is required. Please read over the information regarding cost, time, and requirements for receiving ketamine treatments. 1. It is required that ALL patients be observed in our office for a minimum of 1 hour for each treatment. The following treatment requirements for the first eight weeks are as follows." Weeks 1-4: twice weekly Weeks 5-8: once weekly * After week eight, treatments can continue weekly or bi-weekly; this will depend on how the patient responds to the treatment. 2. You MUST have a driver to pick you up and sign you out before you can be discharged from our clinic on treatment days. If you will be using a driving service like Uber, Lyft, Yellow Cab, etc., we will need to document your booking numbeconfirmation before discharging. * Please note patients cannot drive until a whole night's rest on treatment days. 3. Your insurance may NOT cover the 2-hour observation time. Our office is working diligently to get the observation codes covered by all insurance plans. Currently, Magellan and United Healthcare DO NOT cover the 2-hour observation time. If your insurance does not cover it, the cost for the 2-hour observation time is $150 per treatment visit in addition to your copay or deductible for your office visit with the provider. If you are uninsured or if we do not accept your insurance, the total treatment (appointment and 2-hour observation time) cost can range from $275.00 - $300.00 per treatment visit, depending on the complexity of your visit with the provider. We can also provide a receipt including CPT codes, diagnosis codes, and service dates to file with your insurance company. 4. Ketamine can increase blood pressure and heart rate, so patients CANNOT take any stimulants, benzodiazepines, or sedative-hypnotics the day of treatment. Any further questions regarding this can be answered once you are seen for your appointment. Patients are drug-screened before initial visit and then randomly throughout following treatments (an additional $15 is not covered by insurance). Thank you for your time in reading the above information. If you agree with the above requirements, including cost, please complete the attached forms and return them to me at your earliest convenience. Once received, I can contact you to schedule an appointment with one of our providers. The purpose of this appointment is to make sure you're a perfect candidate for Ketamine, as there can be certain medical conditions or past medical history that can exclude you from receiving Ketamine injection treatments. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. "

2024.05.15 19:14 BrilliantPlatypus94 Large 1BR/1BA in Woodley/Cleveland Park for $1975 (building gym, top floor, rent control + other amenities!) available 6/8

Craigslist post here with pictures: https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/apa/d/washington-spacious-1br-incredible/7747199694.html
I am looking for someone to take over my lease starting June 8th. I’m graduating and have to move, otherwise I would never leave this incredible apartment. I have lived here for three years and it is truly a perfect home in DC.
It is a spacious 1-bedroom, 1 bath with three massive closets and an updated kitchen with in-unit dishwasher. The apartment is perfectly situated and is always full of light. You have a picture-perfect view of the Washington monument from the living room and the kitchen (the sunset pictures in the gallery are pictures I took from the kitchen window). The apartment has beautiful hardwood floors and huge windows in every room. It is also a **rent controlled** building, capping the amount your rent can be raised each year.
The unit is on the top floor—you’ll never hear footsteps or upstairs neighbors. Very solid construction building, I’ve never heard my next door neighbors.
The building has tons of great amenities: You have access to a full gym (for no extra cost), a dog park, a community room that can be rented for parties or get-togethers, and a beautiful roof deck that offers sweeping views of DC. Since the apartment is on the top floor, the roof deck is only a small flight of stairs away, making it feel like your own private roof. There is a large laundry room in the building and the building’s elevators make it easy to access (no hauling baskets up & down stairs!). The building also has package lockers that ensure you’ll never have another stolen package. There is a BBQ/picnic area with giant barbeque grills for use.
The building is a 7-minute walk from the Red Line (Woodley Park station) and is close to Dupont Circle, Cleveland Park, and a short walk from the Adam’s Morgan nightlife. Walking distance to the Zoo as well! It is the perfect combination of a quiet, peaceful apartment that is close to everything DC has to offer.
The building has parking spots for an additional monthly fee, but there is easy residential zoned parking behind the building. I’ve never had trouble finding a space. Pets are allowed for an additional fee (I believe $500 deposit + $35/month for cats, $50 a month for dogs).
Watetrash/gas paid for by building, tenant is responsible for cable + electric.
Please reach out if you are interested and I can answer any questions you may have, and will connect you with my building management. It is a one of a kind spot.

2024.05.15 19:12 Shigglyboo What are some jobs I should be searching for as an audio editor with a business degree?

Hello,
I'm hoping to get some career guidance here. I feel like there must be jobs out there that I haven't considered or maybe even heard of.
I have a degree in Audio Engineering as well as Business (technically Entertainment Business but it was a pretty standard program).
I'm 42. I spent over 12 years working at a post production facility. We were mainly a restoration facility. We took old video tapes (MiniDV, Digital Betacam, High 8, etc.), anything from families' home movies to broadcast quality TV shows and movies. I did a good bit of editing on TV shows and movies that were released places like Turner Classic Movies. I also ran the office. I was the one who answered the phone, replied to emails, received orders, sent invoices, paid bills, etc. I'd say I was a project manager, office manger, and audio/video editor.
Then I moved abroad to teach English. I've got 4 years of experience now as an English language assistant, helping Spanish teens and adults learn English up to the C2 level. For the last 3 years I've also been doing remote audio editing. I work with audio recordings (voiceover work, E-learning, IVR, the type of stuff you hear when you call a company "please press 1 if you'd like to continue to hold"). It's fairly basic work to be honest, but it pays well enough that I would do it full time if I could. And I can't find much in the way of audio editing jobs. I guess there's too many of us, I don't know. But the company I work for has been sending me less and less and now I'm going broke.
I've also done some script supervision, which is essentially being on a Zoom call while vocal talent records their audio. I follow the script and listen to the directors, I make notes and keep up with the session. I would do this full time if I could.
So... I've been browsing tons of jobs. I'm finding almost nothing. Lots of AI training stuff listed, but no responses. Most audio jobs seem to want you to also be a computer programmecoder as well. I've though about trying to learn the "Unreal Engine" as it relates to audio, but that could take a year or longer. I need money now. Even data entry jobs want someone with 10-key experience.
I want to work. I'm pretty much limited to remote at the moment, so freelance 1099 is cool with me. I have a powerful computer, plenty of audio/video software and plugins. Almost two decades of experience as an audio professional combined with administrative work. But I can't find jobs. What else could I be looking for? Any input or advice is much appreciated.
