📌 Update 1:
We've added '2 week, 3 week, 4 week widgets' based on today's date 🎉, especially the '2-week widget,' which provides both medium and large sizes to accommodate those with many events or to-dos (reminders) 🙌.
📌 Update 2:
Now, in existing 'Large Calendar' widgets, period events and all-day events are displayed just like in the latest widgets 💡 Also, to show more events, we've improved it to display up to the maximum number of events per date without showing [+number], and if there are more events than the maximum, [+number] will be shown. This update will soon be applied to the app calendar 📆.
📌 U**pdate 3: **✨
Now in the 'Upcoming Events & Calendar' widget, in addition to 'Today, Tomorrow' events, it has been updated to show upcoming events for the next month from today's date 💫. Also, on days with many events, we've increased the number of events shown from 3 to 4.
📌 Update 4:
We've improved the sorting order of the 'Today Widget' to better understand upcoming events. We plan to offer the 'Today widget' in larger sizes in the future, as well as adding 'Tomorrow widget' and more.
📌 Update 5:
We've dramatically improved the stability and performance of all widgets. Thanks to the 'structural improvements' mentioned in the last letter, the stability and performance of the widgets have been significantly enhanced 👍
📌 Update 6:
If you've set the 'Select calendars to link icon button at the top of the home' to 'Show,' we've improved the size of the visible icon buttons to be more balanced. The area that acts as a 'button' when you press the icon button remains unchanged to ensure no discomfort.

From Boston.com: Feds accuse Rhode Island of warehousing kids with mental health, developmental disabilities

BOSTON (AP) — Rhode Island violated the civil rights of hundreds of children with mental health or developmental disabilities by routinely and unnecessarily segregating them at Bradley Hospital, an acute-care psychiatric hospital, federal prosecutors said Monday.

Zachary Cunha, U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island, said the multi-year investigation found that — rather than complying with its legal obligation to provide services in the most integrated setting appropriate to the needs of the children — the state left them hospitalized at Bradley for months and in some cases for more than a year.
Bradley Hospital states that it is the nation's first hospital devoted exclusively to children's and adolescent's Mental Health. On the surface, this looks like a comprehensive, community mental health provider. It is a non-profit, is affiliated with quality colleges, universities and a medical school. Based on the lengthy investigation conducted by the US Attorney for the District of Rhode Island, Bradley Hospital now joins the ranks of the Troubled Teen Industry.

PROVIDENCE, RI - An investigation by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island and the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights (HHS OCR) has found that the State of Rhode Island has violated federal civil rights laws by routinely and unnecessarily segregating children with mental health and/or developmental disabilities at Bradley Hospital, an acute-care psychiatric hospital, announced United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha and HHS OCR Director Melanie Fontes Rainer.
As detailed in a Letter of Findings transmitted to the Governor of Rhode Island and the Director of the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), the federal government’s comprehensive, multi-year investigation found that, rather than complying with its legal obligation to provide services in the most integrated setting appropriate to the needs of these children, the state has instead left them hospitalized at Bradley for far longer than is necessary.
While Bradley Hospital inpatient admissions are designed to last only one to two weeks, the federal investigation concluded that children with behavioral health disabilities in DCYF’s care were often forced to languish in the hospital for weeks, months, and, in some cases, for more than a year, despite being ready for discharge, and despite the fact that these children would be better served in a family home.
The investigation found that DCYF failed to ensure that children with disabilities were able to access the intensive in-home and community-based services they need, and failed to facilitate prompt discharges from Bradley Hospital to family homes, resulting in extended and unnecessary hospitalization, or risk of future hospitalization, all in violation of federal law, specifically Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

My only symptom seems to be PEM and I found the line not to cross regarding physical movement but for the last year my ability to work on a computer has decreased as I tried to straddle the line of cognitive exertion. I would crash, get a migraine and the time I could spend would decrease.
I've seen a Neuro-Ophthalmologist and they found minor convergence issues but did not feel it would be an issue (the doctor is LC aware and gets referrals from the LC clinic I use for people with similar issues to me). Just mentioning this in case it is a convergence issue even though they felt it wasn't significant.
I used to have a 2 x 27" 4K monitor arms length away and my intermediate glasses I used were 1.75 (this is just for reference). I only have vision issues that require glasses when something is closer than about 30" from me (font size dependent)
I noticed I had no trouble watching TV which at my house is about 12 feet away so I thought I would try out using a large monitor further back for computer work. I bought the cheapest 70" I could find set it 7 feet from me at my office and I can work about 3/4 of the day now as long as I take 5 minute breaks every 20 minutes (up from an hour or two). The breaks were recommend to me by the Neuro-Ophthalmologist. The goal is to change your focus distance to give you eyes a break at staying focused at a fixed distance. I go outside and walk around the parking lot and look out in the distance. Also use eye drops to keep them from getting dry,
Next to LDN this has been the single most helpful thing I have done. In my case I suspect wearing glasses was part of the issue because when I use glasses in other contexts (reading, phone, etc.) I notice some of the same encroaching feeling in my head I get when I was at a computer.
Couple notes on using a TV for a computer monitor. Mine is an LG and I had to set it to gaming mode or there was too much lag with the mouse. I also had to change the HDMI settings to allow it to run at 60p. Different TV's may require different settings but you really want a relatively quick response time, 4K, 60P and I set the display scale to 200%. These letters are about 1/4" to 3/8" tall in my configuration. You don't get the performance out of the TVs as you do with purpose built monitor but you can get it close enough.
There is also a lot of debate (outside of covid) on whether IPS monitor panels (typically computer monitors) and VA panels (more common in TVs) are more strenuous on the eyes. Seems to be undecided but many people have found one or the other to be less strenuous. Potentially this is also part of the issue. I am going to try a smaller TV for my home office where I will be closer and see if it works.
YMMV but it really helped me.

Resume
This will be controversial, but it ideally should be one-page. Harvard and Yale have made explicit their preference for such. I’d say if you’ve got less than 10 years of work experience, you almost certainly can and should fit it on one page. Be concise with your verbiage. Don’t piss the reader off with small fonts (definitely no less than size 11) or crammed wording. You don’t need to patronize the reader by describing in intricate detail what some common-sense things are.
LORs
Again, I believe less is generally more, continuing with my theme. If you can effectively cover ground with two letters when you can submit up to three or four, then choose 2. The only school I submitted 3 letters to was Yale, and that was because I was advised they wanted two academic letters and a military letter to speak to my five years in the Navy. Every other school I submitted one academic and one professional (military) letter.

I wrote about a humbling experience where essentially the main takeaway was that I didn’t need to have an opinion/express an opinion on everything. I hit on the same anecdote in every single one of my interviews, and I think it was well-received.
Harvard Statement of Purpose
-I opted for a different approach contrary to what many recommended. I did not use my traditional Personal Statement for this topic. Instead, I went with a much more direct 1-page statement addressing why I no longer wanted to pursue the JAG Corps in the military (since I’m a reapplicant from a few years ago), and how now I want to clerk, work in big law for a few years to gain experience, and then be a federal prosecutor. There was a lot of good interview fodder from this statement that Dean KJ took an interest in.
PS/HLS Statement of Perspective
My Personal Statement was very reflective in nature on my past failures and moments of growth, and how offering and accepting help is crucial to such growth. I felt this fit the prompt of Harvard’s Statement of Perspective much better for me, as stated above. For my personal statements for other schools, the only modification was I had a paragraph inserted about why I wanted to continue in public service as a federal prosecutor.
Why UVA
I made crystal clear how UVA was one of my top choices, and I think they appreciated that. I did not want to run the risk of appearing like I was coasting on stats, which often leads to people getting waitlisted or denied at UVA and similar schools. I talked about how Charlottesville mirrored my state school undergrad, and how I loved that being an island of blue in a sea of red on the political lap brings with it a perspective you can’t find easily most other places. I also discussed my goals of wanting to practice in the south after law school, which added to the authenticity in my view.
Character and Fitness
Just own it. Don’t shift the blame. Be as concise about what happened as possible and take ownership of it. I got fired as an RA for hosting a party with other RA’s in my dorm room. It was about 5 sentences in length.

Interview Advice
It’s okay to be nervous. I fucked up the intro to my Harvard interview by saying something like “I guess it’s nervous to be normal” and we laughed about it.
-My Yale interview started 8 minutes late because we had audio issues connecting. I was panicking on the inside from embarrassment, but tried not to let that show to my interviewer (who I could see on video still). The interview went great and we talked for twenty minutes past my allotted time.
-My other feedback is to give good thought as to Why X school and why law school in general. In my Harvard interview, I said something along the lines of "A lot of people grow up dreaming of coming to this school, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't one of them. Even more than that, though, the size of Harvard's class brings with it a diversity of backgrounds and thought that you can't find as easily anywhere else. I remember reading about conservative students in the past enjoying now-Senator Elizabeth Warren's classes when she taught here. That coupled with Harvard having the highest student veteran population of any school make it a natural fit."
-As for the Georgetown interview, I think a good rule of thumb is to be respectful of the other applicants’ time and answers. Try not to talk more than anyone else in the group interview, and try to pay attention to what people say to show you’re listening.
-Finally, (and maybe I’m old fashioned) I think it’s generally polite and professional to send a quick thank-you email to your interviewethe admissions inbox. Don’t expect a response, but I do think it’s a thoughtful touch.

There's 100s of applications it will enable. I'll cover a few of them below.

1. Language Learning

Duolingo Stock fell by $65 in the last 5 days. That should tell you the entire story.

For context, Duolingo is a language-learning app. Now GPT-4o can easily translate terms in other languages by just pointing it to the ChatGPT's Camera.
This is massive if you want to travel globally as a nomad. You don't have to know a language now. You can just translate on the fly in any random country.
The accuracy won't be 100% but it would be close enough. And the AI keeps improving.

2. Solving School Problems For Students

I wish I had this in school. Learning could've been more efficient and faster.
Most students fear asking questions because they feel it might be dumb. Now you can ask ChatGPT any dumb question.
It even solves math problems for the Salman Khan's (founder of Khan Academy, not the actor) Kid.

3. Bed Time Stories For Kids

Since ChatGPT can talk now with a humourous and sultry voice, you can use it to tell stories to kids. It can be used in the voice of their parents or grandparents.
You can even use a Soft Toy that does the talking to the kid. Earlier, there used to be toys that did that but it only spoke the same sentence. Now it can do back and forth.
You can make special toys that teach kids letters and alphabets. Target it to 2-3 year olds.

4. Be My Eyes For The Blind

Best damn use-case for the blind. Now using a Phone is a bit too much for this but when smart glasses come, every blind person will have a walking companion.
The future is great for the blind.

5. Be My Friend

Too many people are lonely nowadays thanks to technology. It can be a boon for some but a con for others.
You can build a specialized app that gets you an AI Friend since you can talk to it now and it can talk back, it will be great.
I am 100% sure Therapy AI will be much better now with Audio/Video integration. In future, we will have fully featured Robots like Tesla's Optimus and Figure that will have such functionalities built-in.
I bet this comes in <2 years judging by the pace at which AI and Robotics are accelerating.

6. Comic Books

Now that text can be easily created with ChatGPT, why not create Comic Books easily.
Its a huge creative exercise for comic creators. Webtoons have exploded in popularity and many KDramas are made out of them like Death's Game and Marry My Husband.
This will increase the creativity exponentially.

7. Font Creations

Fonts are expensive. Like really expensive.
Funnily enough ChatGPT can create fonts easily now. Take the most popular fonts, tweak them a bit, and create entire new sets of fonts.
Look at the creations explode on Creative Market. Font directories like Typewolf can now create their own fonts easily as they already have distribution.

I like the style of small font specimen images used on a lot of Wikipedia articles. There are a lot of examples in the third column in the list of serif typefaces. I'm trying to put together a program to generate images for my local fonts as an aid to keeping myself organized. Here's an example of what I have at the moment.
But I have a few questions that hopefully people here can answer.

• Is there a name for this style of specimen image? Are these specific to Wikipedia, or is there some broader usage in play?
• If this is a semi-common format, are there any best practices around its design? The styles on Wikipedia are all over the place.
• Is there some ideal set of letters that would be good to use by default? I'd like to have reasonable defaults so I can easily generate images for all my collected fonts. So I was looking through AO3 define a fanfiction cuz I was bored and something that just drives me insane so much is when authors side to use like fancy lettering that are really hard to read in their summaries cuz I'm dyslexic so I already have a hard time reading a lot of stuff but then when you use fonts that are like cursive or Don't know what it's called but this is literally a word directly from the one I saw that made me want to talk about this "𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕔𝕠" I don't know what this font is called but it drives me insane It is so hard to read please I am begging you if you are making a summary please put it in regular font

Since I couldn't get flags to show up in polybar --- huge letters for either US or RS showed up, even though I had an emoji font with flags installed --- I decided to just use language names. They work fine but I'm just curious as to whether there's a better or more direct way to achieve the same without using label-layout = %icon% and layout-icon-*. I did read the xkeyboard section on the wiki, but didn't completely understand it. Thanks for any help or clarification.

Hi All! TLDR Chemistry/Chemical Engineering STEM query - how valuable are industry recommendations? Do academic recommendations generally hold more weight? What about R&D Departments in Industry?
Full context:
I'm in the process of looking for PhD Programs and I'm kinda feeling a severe lack of confidence at the moment, mostly because of my undergrad experiences. During my undergrad, I worked in a specific group in my freshman/sophomore years. It had to do with materials chemistry, and due to extenuating circumstances - particularly getting stuck on the research project - I was not able to continue the research project with my mentor. However, my work did result in a paper, of which I'm ~6th author. I feel like there were quite a lot of... feelings in limbo with that, and while that's my only paper, I'm exceedingly hesitant to reach out to the PI of that research project. I did join a few other research groups after that to gain exposure to different fields, but it was mostly learning the ropes - I did not feel like I contributed significantly.
After undergrad, I started working in Industry for 3 years per my international student visa detail (STEM OPT). I believe my years in industry were far more productive - mostly because of all the things I learnt from my Undergraduate experiences. However, I have been told that industry recommendation letters are usually worth less than recommendation letters from Academia. In that sense, I'm quite lost and wanted to confirm - is this generally true in grad school admissions?
Additionally, noting the context that I've provided, I'm not sure how to proceed with the recommendation letters. I would greatly appreciate feedback and/or suggestions regarding the matter! I'm fairly worried that I won't be able to get into the programs I've shortlisted, and it's been gnawing at my sanity slowly.

Calibrate your machine right after an update as your calibration settings will not carry over into the latest update. Follow the advice of the calibration guide. Then do a test print then cut of your project using plain printer paper.
If for some reason after calibration your cuts are still inaccurate, clear cache (the troubleshooting guide above this) and try calibration again.

If you are experiencing issues despite clearing cache, please give some background information:

• Cricut machine (Joy, Joy Xtra, Explore Air 2, Explore air 3, Maker, Maker 3, etc.).
• Device (Windows 10, Window 11, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android).
• Type of project you were attempting to do. (Basic cut, print then cut, drawing, foiling, scoring, etc.)
• Were you successful in doing this project in the past? Or is this a new project?

Over the last 6 weeks we've fixed 74 software defects, including the following priority field issues and reliability concerns:

• After disabling specific contours, the bounding box encloses the remaining ones within the Canvas.
  
• Images not uploading.
  
• Upon selecting, it appears that some of the ‘Make It Now’ projects in the Canvas have disappeared.
  
• Right-clicking and selecting “View image sets” from the Layers panel often displays irrelevant images.
  
• Selecting certain fonts in the font selection process is causing delays in rendering on the Canvas
  
• The text box fails to load on the Canvas, and adding a text field in Chinese is not possible
  
• Changes made to the latest project are lost upon sharing.
  

- Draw projects are being opened as cuts instead of drawings, resulting in a color change.
- Save a project on iOS, then open it on desktop, and notice that the changes fail to appear.

I got a little bit of sleep after depriving myself of it for many hours last night and this morning.
I was in a white victorian room, my attention on the door. I wanted to take pictures of it. I was being harassed by a disturbing man or two, picking a cream cheese danish and stale cream puffs off the floor. There was something blue on the floor, along with another thing, which I forgot. I fell back asleep right after memorizing it, earlier. It had something to do with Layne Staley.
I found a pack of ocean spray yogurt raisins, liking the faded packaging too. I went to the library not long after this, preoccupied with a stack of books there. Just like heaven, was the one I was able to remember.
Outside my house, the manhole cover was removed. Down inside of it was full of several ones, on the ground and piled around. Victorian font on the front.
I had a nightmare, as the zombie apocalypse was happening. I was sitting in a victorian-esque house, next to the main floor. It had a gothic stairway in the center of the floor, flat stairs. It would've been a mansion, then. I was sitting in a gaming chair a foot away, seeing the zombies come inside and attack the people I was with. A woman was wearing vintage lingerie, 80s. Teddy bodysuit. I heard a voice talk over the scene, saying the lingerie was from '78-79-80-81.' I feel like he went from '82 to '84, but he stopped slowly at '81. In my house, a industrial gothic video game was on. I watched my little brother play it, thinking about the soundtrack. Seemed like 16volt would be on it. There was a remote control attached to my gaming chair, I instantly noticed. The dream turned towards my abusive family members on my dad's side, for yet another time. I was now in a room with my mom, looking into a fridge. I saw syrup inside it. A few pink lemonade syrup cans. There was probably a white-regular lemonade as well. I took a pink one, wanting a drink. My aunt who doesn't like me; my dad's sister, who hates us all, came into the room. I would think they would be fake to us if he was still alive. That'd be the more likely scenario where they'd pour us a drink; do something courteous for us. Insecurely, unwelcome my mom felt. As always, around them. My mom, the leo. Passive and left out when near that family. My cousins were nearby, which I could feel the energy of one of them.
I lastly, found myself laying on my mom's bed with my partner. Fruit salad by the wiggles was playing or talked about, for some reason. We were laughing, drawing letters onto a paper notebook. The shapes looked erotic/suggestive, and that somehow was arousing. I drew a 'M'
