2024.05.16 08:36 Intellotoxic Why Drake's core audience can't acknowledge Dot won (a theory)

I've been thinking about this a lot and figured I'd shoot something off the dome. The reason a lot of Dot's lyrics aren't landing with Drake fans is because they're not in the right frame of mind to realize the significance of the lyrics to the culture. I'll give you a surface level example.
When Kendrick says something like,
I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress I even hate when you say the word nigga, but that's just me, I guess
I see all kinds of reactions from Drake fans thinking that Kendrick is just being petty or childish at best ("I hate this about you, and this, and this, wah wah wah"), or at worst, racist against Drake considering he's half black. But Kendrick's really not. He's not questioning Drake's black skin. He's criticizing Drake for trying to embody and be emblematic of a culture Drake hasn't really lived.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you need to come from the hood or be a certain color to appreciate the culture of rap, but you do need to put in the work to learn the language of it and what the artists who built the genre are trying to say when something like the above comes into question about Drake. I mean, for Christ's sake, the reference to not liking this, that and the other thing about Drake comes from an interview of DMX, one of the realest guys you'll ever listen to.
The reason Drake's core audience can't recognize something like this is because they haven't put in the effort to understand or appreciate the impact or meaning behind something like this to the culture of blackness and hip-hop. They're a lot like Drake in that way. So, when Kendrick proclaims he's what the culture is feeling, well, Drake fans won't understand the real impact or meaning of a song like Euphoria.

2024.05.16 08:29 TheTruthTalker800 I think Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Also Have a Notable Cult of Personality Among White College Educated Men & Women in the United States Today

Reasoning and proof to back up this claim, as I'm sure everyone with an IQ 100 or greater is by now well aware Donald Trump & co have THE cult of personality among resentment of poorly to not well educated voters of all stripes, but particularly a majority white voters in the US.
However, I would at this point very much argue that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris also have one to a lesser extent, it turns out...and here's how.
President Biden and VP Harris had about 40% of white voter support in the 2020 election- they still have about that much now 4 years later in 2024 believe it or not, but after a disastrous by any objective metric 4 year term, and have not lost or gained any support in this time with said bloc-- it is overwhelmingly concentrated among well educated voters in the Caucasian bloc, especially women, as trivia.
References: Nate Cohn, NYT Polls-- https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/05/upshot/polls-biden-trump-2024.html
"The survey finds that Mr. Biden enters his campaign as a badly weakened candidate, one running without the strengths on personal likability, temperament and character that were essential to his narrow victories in all six of these states in 2020. Long-festering vulnerabilities on his age, economic stewardship, and appeal to young, Black and Hispanic voters have grown severe enough to imperil his re-election chances. On question after question, the publicā€™s view of the president has plummeted over the course of his time in office. The deterioration in Mr. Bidenā€™s standing is broad, spanning virtually every demographic group, yet it yields an especially deep blow to his electoral support among young, Black and Hispanic voters, with Mr. Trump obtaining previously unimaginable levels of support with them."

Biden Has Particularly Lost Favor With Young, Nonwhite Voters

Whom they say they voted for in 2020 Whom they support now
Nonwhite, under 45 Biden +39 68-29
Nonwhite, over 45 Biden +47 73-26
White, under 45 Biden +5 50-45
White, over 45 Trump +16 57-41
(Based on New York Times/Siena College polls of 3,662 registered voters conducted Oct. 22 to Nov. 3 in six battleground states. The 2020 vote is based on how respondents say they voted in 2020, though margins are similar to The Times's estimates of the results. Numbers are rounded.)
"In contrast, Mr. Biden has retained the entirety of his support among older white voters, helping him stay relatively competitive in the older and predominantly white Northern battleground states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, even as Mr. Trump builds a more comfortable lead in the more diverse Sun Belt states. Thereā€™s no reason to assume that next Novemberā€™s final election tallies will match the results of these surveys. But if they did, it could represent an epochal shift in American politics, one with the potential to reverberate for decades as young and nonwhite voters make up a growing share of the electorate. Many familiar patterns in American politics would be blurred. Racial and generational polarization would fade. It would be the culmination of a decade-long realignment of the electorate along the lines of Mr. Trumpā€™s conservative populism, all while dashing Democratic hopes of assembling a progressive majority around a new generation of young and nonwhite voters."
Second source: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/05/upshot/biden-trump-black-hispanic-voters.html
Nonwhite voters
White voters at the bottom
"Mr. Bidenā€™s tepid support among these voters appears to be mostly responsible for the close race in early national surveys, which show Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump all but tied among registered voters even as Mr. Biden runs as well among white voters as he did four years ago."
Third source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-05-15/biden-risks-losing-significant-share-of-black-vote-king-says**
"**President Joe Biden risks losing a significant share of Black votes in his rematch with Donald Trump unless his campaign improves his outreach strategy, said the daughter of slain civil-rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. 'There are people in the Black community who are feeling like not a lot has changed,' Bernice King said Wednesday in a Bloomberg TV interview."
Fourth source: Axios, Polls-- https://www.axios.com/2023/11/06/biden-black-hispanic-voters-losing-polls
Overall point/conclusion: Joe and Kamala haven't moved with being favored by 40% of white voters and it's chiefly coming from them having >50% approval among well educated white women with postgraduate or higher degrees, despite falling consistently with their own core base in margins in Black, Hispanic, Asian, and young white voters consistently like with the country from 2020 to 2024. This all essentially indicates a cult of personality is concentrated to me chiefly around the former demographic, because Biden's standing has deteriorated among everyone but this bloc by this point, and for several reasons imo (I'll elaborate on that in another reply to those curious).

2024.05.16 08:27 demonic__ferret recently diagnosed with adhd but now i feel stuck

i (23F) recently started going to therapy and originally it was for depression and anxiety. iā€™m a college student and these last two semesters have quite literally dragged me down mentally until my brain just felt paralyzed and i almost failed both semesters.
i went to a therapist/counselor on campus and she brought up ADD based on all that i disclosed about my experience in college and how i felt lazy and yet i cannot bring myself to do my assignments until i have to force myself on the due date. i didnā€™t take her ADD statement as a diagnosis but i did keep it in the back of my mind. iā€™m a psych major so iā€™ve learned bits and pieces of ADD/ADHD. as much as i identified with the symptoms i could find in my textbook, i didnā€™t want to self-diagnose and ultimately dropped the subject.
a few weeks after that, i was becoming increasingly frustrated and just said f*ck it and booked an appointment with a therapist under my insurance. i didnā€™t bring up the ADD i just answered his questions. technically, i am clinically depressed but he also brought up the possibility of ADHD. i was hesitant to accept what he was telling me until he explained that ADHD doesnā€™t ā€œdevelopā€, instead itā€™s ā€œin us from the beginningā€.
currently i am looking for a permanent therapist so i can look into being tested for ADHD but i donā€™t know how to ask or what to say.
how do i go to a therapist and explain i may have ADHD without sounding like iā€™m begging for medication?

2024.05.16 08:25 shyamyoga How often should I practice pregnancy yoga for maximum benefit?

Introduction:
Pregnancy is a time of profound transformation, both physically and emotionally. As expectant mothers navigate the joys and challenges of this remarkable journey, prioritizing self-care becomes essential for nurturing both body and baby. Pregnancy yoga, a gentle and nurturing practice specifically tailored to the needs of pregnant women, offers a myriad of benefits for physical health, emotional well-being, and preparation for childbirth. However, a common question that arises among expectant mothers is: How often should I practice pregnancy yoga to maximize its benefits? In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the optimal frequency of pregnancy yoga practice and how online yoga classes can support your journey toward a healthy and empowered pregnancy.
Understanding the Benefits of Pregnancy Yoga:
Before delving into the frequency of pregnancy yoga practice, let's briefly explore why it's beneficial for expectant mothers:
  1. Physical Health: Pregnancy yoga incorporates gentle stretches, strengthening exercises, and breathwork to support the changing needs of a pregnant body. It helps alleviate common discomforts such as back pain, sciatica, and swelling, while also promoting flexibility, balance, and circulation.
  2. Emotional Well-Being: Pregnancy can evoke a wide range of emotions, from excitement and joy to anxiety and uncertainty. Yoga provides a nurturing space for expectant mothers to connect with their breath, cultivate mindfulness, and release tension, thereby reducing stress and promoting emotional balance.
  3. Preparation for Childbirth: Certain yoga poses and breathing techniques practiced in pregnancy yoga classes are specifically designed to prepare women for labor and delivery. By learning how to relax the pelvic floor muscles, control the breath, and cultivate mental focus, expectant mothers can approach childbirth with greater confidence and ease.
Now, let's address the central question: How often should you practice pregnancy yoga to reap its maximum benefits?
Factors Influencing Pregnancy Yoga Practice Frequency:
The optimal frequency of pregnancy yoga practice may vary depending on several factors, including your individual health, fitness level, lifestyle, and stage of pregnancy. While some expectant mothers may benefit from daily practice, others may find that a few sessions per week suffice. Here are some considerations to help you determine the right frequency for you:
  1. Consult with Your Healthcare Provider: Before embarking on a pregnancy yoga practice regimen, it's crucial to consult with your healthcare provider, particularly if you have any underlying medical conditions or pregnancy complications. Your healthcare provider can offer personalized guidance based on your specific needs and circumstances, ensuring that your yoga practice aligns with your overall prenatal care plan.
  2. Listen to Your Body: Pregnancy is a time of heightened awareness of your body's signals and sensations. Pay attention to how you feel during and after each yoga practice session. If you experience fatigue, discomfort, or dizziness, it may be a sign that you need to dial back the intensity or duration of your practice. Honor your body's needs and adjust your practice accordingly.
  3. Consider Your Energy Levels: Pregnancy can bring about fluctuations in energy levels, particularly during the first and third trimesters. While some expectant mothers may feel energized and invigorated during pregnancy, others may experience fatigue and lethargy. Tailor your yoga practice frequency to align with your energy levels, choosing more gentle and restorative practices during times of low energy and incorporating more active sessions when you feel more vibrant.
  4. Prioritize Consistency Over Intensity: When it comes to pregnancy yoga practice, consistency is key. Aim to establish regular yoga classes that you can realistically maintain throughout your pregnancy. Consistent practice allows you to experience the cumulative benefits of yoga, including improved strength, flexibility, and mental clarity. Remember that it's not about pushing yourself to the limit but rather about nurturing your body and baby with gentle and mindful movement.
  5. Supplement with Online Yoga Classes: In today's digital age, online yoga classes offer unparalleled convenience and accessibility for expectant mothers. Whether you're a busy professional, a stay-at-home parent, or someone with limited mobility, online yoga classes allow you to practice from the comfort of your own home, at a time that suits your schedule. Look for online prenatal yoga classes specifically designed to support pregnancy and childbirth, and supplement your home practice with occasional in-person classes for added support and guidance.
Conclusion:
Pregnancy yoga is a valuable tool for promoting physical health, emotional well-being, and preparation for childbirth during pregnancy. While the optimal frequency of practice may vary for each expectant mother, the key is to listen to your body, prioritize consistency, and tailor your practice to align with your individual needs and circumstances. Whether you choose to practice daily, a few times per week, or supplement your home practice with online yoga classes, the important thing is to nurture your body and baby with gentle movement, mindful breath, and loving awareness. With dedication, patience, and the support of experienced instructors, pregnancy yoga can become a cherished practice that enhances your pregnancy journey and prepares you for the transformative experience of motherhood.

2024.05.16 08:18 pinkpillow964 Question

Iā€™m currently a sole trader in helping people with their supporting statement/CV/interview in the healthcare sector (this has been approved via conflict of interest at work).
When people submit applications, they hear nothing back and itā€™s because we donā€™t provide feedback past shortlisting stage as thereā€™s no time for that.
I currently charge (hardly anything compared to most) for my services. Iā€™ve had good interest and website drive, but Iā€™m struggling to find people who are actually booking on.
Basically, shall I make my services free? Do you think that would be better for those in healthcare? I understand most canā€™t afford it as we are underpaid (non-medical staff that is).
It was never really about the money, itā€™s hard to get into healthcare and I want to help people get into their dream healthcare role because we have so many dedicated people out there just waiting for a chance.

2024.05.16 08:15 Nice_Quail3120 Medical Genetics or Molecular Biology and Genetics?

Hi I live in Turkey. I will be entering the higher education institutions (college) exam in this month. After that we will be submiting our preferences of instutions. So here is my question: should I choose a medical school or directly Molecular Biology and Genetics school? In turkey after you graduate from medical school you can make your degree at medical genetics. I really want to be working at the genetics branch but as my childhood dream I would like to be on the academic team that making the researches rather than the treatments directly to a patient. But I have heard also if I finish the medical school I would be more advanced in most of the areas and could do what I want. So i am really confused.
I hope i explained myself good, want to hear your thoughts.

2024.05.16 08:14 QuestingQueer Honorific for NP / PA ?

Silly question, but Iā€™m not sure how to refer to mid-level providers in a respectful way! Folks with more clinical experience please help me out.
The ones who Iā€™ve been introduced to have always introduced themselves to me with their first names, but I know Iā€™ll be having more interactions with various types of medical staff and I donā€™t want to step on any toes by assuming theyā€™re all okay with being on a first-name basis given the age gap (Iā€™m younger and I want to show respect) and the competency gap (Iā€™ll be a student which means Iā€™m still learning and sometimes may be more annoying than helpful while theyā€™re trying to be productive).
Hypothetical one: Iā€™m in a clinic and meeting patients to start taking their history before the nurse practitioner comes in. After introducing myself and explaining what Iā€™m doing there, do I tell the patient ā€œyour provider, Nurse LastName, will be joining us in a momentā€ or is it better to refer to them as Mr./Ms./Mx./etc LastName and avoid calling them ā€˜nurseā€™?
I would call a doctor (physician with MD/DO, or PhD) Dr. LastName, and I would call a registered nurse Nurse LastName, unless the person told me they have other preferences, but what about an NP? I donā€™t know if they want to be called ā€˜nurseā€™ because they are a type of nurse, or if they want to be distinguished from different types of nurses by calling them something else (not sure what else I would say!)
Hypothetical two: I was told some bit of information by a physicianā€™s assistant and now Iā€™m verbally passing it on to the resident Iā€™m working with. Do I say ā€œMr./Ms./Mx./etc LastName wanted to speak with you about a patient in room two?ā€ What do you call a physicianā€™s assistant? Do they have titles or honorifics that are equivalent to ā€˜doctorā€™ or ā€˜nurseā€™ that are specific for their profession?
I feel like I should know the answer to this so Iā€™m too embarrassed to ask an actual nurse practitioner or physicianā€™s assistant what theyā€™re supposed to be called (ie what to default to for people in that position) outside of situations when youā€™ve interacted with them enough to know what they personally prefer as individuals.
I havenā€™t had to figure it out before (helps that my premed shadowing was only with MDs so I didnā€™t have a lot of interaction with mid-levels) but now that Iā€™ll be starting med school I know itā€™s time to figure out this piece of etiquette. please helppp šŸ˜©

2024.05.16 08:11 YogurtclosetLow424 Has anyone completed their bupropion treatment successfully?

Hey sorry if the question sounds dumb, I donā€™t want to offend anyone. I know mental health issues are not a thing that is fixed quickly and many times are conditions that accompanies us all life but, have anyone have been prescribed with bupropion for an acute mental health issue and completed their treatment properly? Not because side effects or abruptly, but actually on a planned controlled way. If so, have you been able to function or feel as good or better than before your acute mental issue? Iā€™m asking because I will start treatment due to an acute situation, breaking up with a controlling abusive partner after found she was cheating me. I have been relatively estable all my life , but she was my first and only girl and has crushed me and is not letting me go easily. So Iā€™m assessing all the risks and benefits as the proposal from my therapist is to use medication to go through this situation only, but Iā€™m a little bit worried about side effects and the possibility of not feeling well anymore without the medication.
Sorry for the long post

Our site is literally one of the smallest sites in the Amazon network, WHY TF ARE YOU NOT ON THE FLOOR! But when people give her that same energy back or to one of her favorites she wants people to start being nice. Man fuck you. And I wish she would stop using her veteran status as an MP as intimidating process. Bitch Iā€™m a vet too combat medic in the Air Force, Iā€™m not using that be an asshole though. And then her favoritism, holy shit, she kept one person who has two cases of homophobia, 3 OMs who went off on her, 2 AMs that canā€™t fucking stand her, and she is keeping her. 2024.05.16 08:06 shivamshad When is Mitral Valve Repair Surgery for the Heart Performed?

When is Mitral Valve Repair Surgery for the Heart Performed?
Mitral valve repair is a surgery performed to correct the mitral valve, ensuring it functions properly. It is a safe and effective method without resorting to cutting the breast bone. It has long-term benefits, preserves heart function, and avoids the need for anticoagulation. It is a less invasive procedure that experienced surgeons and teams should perform. Dr. Sujay Shad, a senior heart surgeon at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, one of the best Heart hospital in Delhi, strongly advises patients to consult with an experienced doctor before undergoing this surgery, ensuring they receive the best possible care and guidance.
Read on for more details on this surgery!
https://preview.redd.it/zv4iwhm0cq0d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=90602f34dceff23425fc22b99f46ed4bcc284d5e
What is a Mitral Valve?
The heartā€™s Mitral valve is situated between the heartā€™s left upper and lower chambers. It acts as a one-directional valve that ensures blood circulation in the right direction. When the valve opens, it enables blood flow from the lung and left atrium to the left ventricle. When the left ventricle contracts to pump the blood into the body, the mitral valve closes to prevent blood flow backwards into the lungs. Blood flows from the lungs via the heart and throughout the body.
When does one need a Mitral Valve Repair Surgery?
Mitral valve disease develops when the valves in the heartā€™s upper chamber do not open or close properly, allowing blood to flow backwards out of the heart or restricting blood flow to the left ventricle. Hence, mitral valve damage or deformity hinders its functioning, and the person may need surgery to repair it.
Symptoms of Mitral valve diseases are not always noticeable until they become severe.
Some of the symptoms of mitral valve disease may involve the following:
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Heart murmur
  • Swelling or oedema in ankles or feet
  • Arrhythmia (abnormal rhythm of the heartbeat).
Mitral Valve Repair Surgery Procedure
The Mitral Valve Repair in India began after several tests, such as a blood test, physical exam, and medical history review, were conducted to determine whether the personā€™s health was well enough. The patient will also be given specific instructions to prepare for the surgery, such as fasting for a certain period before the procedure and stopping certain medications.
In this surgery, the patient is under general anaesthesia. The surgeon will create small cuts on the chest, opening the middle of the chest at the breastbone to access the heart. Depending on the severity and type of the disease, the surgery may involve excess tissue removal from the valve and separating or reconnecting the leaflets of the mitral valves.
The surgeon may perform tightening of the valve by following techniques:
  • Annuloplasty: In this procedure, the ring surrounding the mitral valve is known as the annulus. It is reinforced or tightened to reshape the valve so it can work properly.
  • Mitral valve clip: In this procedure, a small metal valve clip is inserted via a catheter into the heart from an artery, leg, or groyne. This clip helps reshape the mitral valve. It is a minimally invasive procedure for patients at higher risk of complications.
Benefits of these Heart Surgeries:
  • Minimal pain
  • Less risk of wound infection
  • Fast healing
  • Smaller scars
  • Quicker recovery.
Recovery after Mitral Valve Repair
After the surgery, the patient must stay in the intensive care unit for 24 hours for further monitoring. The patient may need to stay in the hospital for several days based on their recovery and the severity of the disease. 2024.05.16 08:03 lavendar2265 Masters in International Relations (interview experience)

Qualifications: BA history
Institute I applied to: Amity, Noida
Experience: - I applied online, and chose to have my interview online as well. (Zoom) - there were 2 professors
Questions: - introduce yourself - Did you read todayā€™s paper - why did you chose IR - asked me to explain a recent development (I chose to speak on Israel- Palestinian conflict but the professor sarcastically told me that was old news and then proceeded to let me speak - difference between history and historical - why recent developments become ā€˜historicalā€™ even though it happened one month prior
Interview ended after that.
Experience: It wasnā€™t my best interview but I felt really humiliated because they kept laughing at my answers openly and smirked looking at each other. They constantly replied sarcastically too. I prepared a lot, and everything went to waste. they also said ā€˜you havenā€™t got anything else to do for one year?ā€™ Even though I explained that I took up UPSC coaching after graduating

2024.05.16 07:47 mirrormachina Is it wrong that I didn't eat the Chick Fil A?

(Very) Long Version:
My job was getting us dinner for overtime for a while. Coworker decides to ask me if I've ever had CFA, and I say no (I haven't because I've never been around them until recently for some reason) .
She explains part of the story I vaguely knew of and tells me lgbtq people work there and like it/eat it anyway. I said okay well, I'll think about it. I've been fed misinformation by said person before so I decide to look up the full story for myself and am, as to be expected, disturbed.
Next time we get dinner, she recommends chick fil a. I decide fuck it, it's free food. I order myself a chicken sandwich and hope it'll be good. By the time we're done working, I feel nauseous, on top of having little appetite from my medication.
When I come out, she personally hands me my bag, but I say it's okay you guys can have ny sandwich. On my way out I heard someone quietly say "just take it home..." Turns out to have been someone next to me who rocks pride regalia and had their own bag.
Fast forward 2 weeks during more overtime, coworker asks me AGAIN about chick fil a, but this time asks me why I didn't take my bag. I explain to her that I've told her be that my medication messes with my appetite. When I tell her she cuts me off and says out loud for the office to hear "X doesn't care what we eat by the way. What's everyone's favorite chicken sandwich?"
Very specific question, but everyone except a few people shouts CFA.
For at least 2 weeks after this , the coworker with the pride regalia brings up CFA. They keep talking about how good it is, which makes me slightly nauseous because I have no appetite and so the details do not sound appetizing but it feels weirdly pointed because this has only happened once ever in my time at this company so far.
One day I bring in a Subways cup from the gas station i got breakfast from, and they start talking about Subways and Jared, and how they haven't eaten there since that happened.
This is only like 1/10 of I THINK might be harassment from said individual(s), but also I don't want to play the victim.
Am I crazy and imagining this string of events as being connected (should I have eaten the CFA despite feeling off), or was it ok to refuse it?
The part about all this that bothers me is that it's not like I go around asking strangers if they eat CFA before I befriend them, and it doesn't bother me if someone does/has. I don't think there's much ethical consumption under capitalism if there is at all, so why assume this about me and spend so much time making sure I feel bad about it??? I wish someone would just ask me what I think of it already so I could speak my piece but I've been given 0 opportunity to do so
TLDR: Coworker seems to be upset I didn't eat chick fil a for reasons she won't accept and might be lashing out
