2024.05.28 21:25 groovybluedream Endo opinion bmi 26-27 , advice

I was diagnosed with PCOS maybe 1 month ago, main symptom has been inconsistent cycles and weight gain. My bmi is 26-27 range. Endo told me the root of all my problems is my obesity and I need to lose weight ASAP, which i’ve been trying to by diet and some physical activity although this is hard for me as a single parent of special needs with little to no daycare options and working full time. Endo said I need to make sure I lose weight and not gain more, and that inositol, spearmint. and berberine is a bunch of BS and that I wasted money on supppments. Then encouraged birth control, I said i’ve tried ALL except IUD and they all made me gain weight and he said “the only one that causes weight gain is depo provera” My main concern is the cycles, I just want regular cycles NATURALLY, all other symptoms while I don’t love the excessive hair growth and acne and mild hair loss it’s manageable without medication. Any advice??

2024.05.28 21:06 Ash_Butterfly Breakthrough Bleeding on Every BC

I can't stick with a bc and it's getting ridiculous. Started on loryna and was doing good but then was breaking through after about six months, so I switched to depo. I was on depo provera for nearly a year, but then I started bleeding nonstop for about six months. So I switched to loryna again. I was on loryna for about six months with no issues but then started bleeding for three months straight. THEN I was on junel fe for eight months, and now I'm having breakthrough bleeds. I've tried taking pill breaks every month, but this is too painful for me and they last too long. I've switched to breaks every three months, and this was manageable and I wasn't experiencing breakthrough bleeding until just now >:(
What is causing this? I never experience breakthrough bleeding at first, only after about six months taking the pills/injections regularly. It's getting really frustrating.

2024.05.26 09:30 indiegembi I just found out I'm pregnant, what do I do next?

I (21f) live in northern California. I was on depo-provera for 7 years and came off of it about 7 or 8 months ago. My doctor told me I had a year before I had to worry about getting pregnant and all of the research I did seemed to support that . Me and my fiancé haven't been using protection since we thought it was safe. Obviously not. My periods while on birth control were either completely absent or irregularly few and far between, so I never tracked them. My periods came back around 4 months after coming off depo, but they were still irregular and seemed to come randomly, so I still hadn't been tracking. All that to say I'm not sure when my last was, but I believe it was within the first 2 weeks of April. During April I moved out by myself for the first time, so I was under a lot of stress while job seeking and getting established in a new city, which is why I didn't notice at first that my period was late. About half-way into May was when I realized and started to worry, but I've only just now taken a test. I used every stick in the box and they all said positive. I'm at a loss for what to do now. I'm scared. I am not in a financial position to keep a baby and neither is my partner. I know that I can get an abortion/pills at my local clinic, but because of the holiday they won't be open until Tuesday. I want to know what to expect and what to do now. I'll be starting my new job soon, how do I tell them that I might possibly miss my first day because I'll be bedridden with bleeding and cramps? How bad will it hurt? Is it really worse than labor? I feel so stupid like I have ruined my life just before I had the chance to be happy . How long will it take to actually receive the pills? And what do I do if they don't take my insurance? I'm really scared and I'm looking for advice. I can't tell my parents (I'm poc and I'll get disowned, so will my partner) and I don't want my friends to know either. I feel so ashamed, please help me.
TDLR: I'm pregnant but I can't go to a clinic for a few days. What is the process of getting an abortion and what should I expect? How do I tell my job ? What if I don't have the right insurance? Need advice, please help

2024.05.25 22:54 haustoric Ready for answers

I (31F) have been chasing symptoms with my doctors for 2 months now. It started with a depo-provera shot. I was 6 days late and having very unfun withdrawal symptoms like bloating and moodiness/depression (different than depression I’ve always had, like I felt like a rock was on my chest and a demon had possessed me). I got my shot, and the very next day suffered what my gyno is calling a vasovagal attack - without going into too much detail I crawled to the toilet, thought I might pass out or die, was dry heaving and sweating profusely and then had cold shivers. It happened twice.
After those “attacks” I feel lightheaded every time I stand up. When I shower I have to hold on to the wall. I have cramping in my calves (not quite charlie horses) when I get ready in the morning and I have lightning headaches and am frequently nauseous. My chest pain, which I’ve been kinda ignoring for much longer than 2 months, has gotten much worse and sometimes feels like stabbing pain that makes it impossible to sleep. I also cough up blood about once a week (also ongoing for more than 2 months). The brain fog and fatigue are so severe I have not been able to work and am actually leaving my job.
Before all this I was working out 5 days a week, regularly hiking 5+ miles, and a “fit, active” healthy young person. My diet is mostly meat and veggies. I regularly drank about 2 beers a day but now alcohol makes my symptoms so much worse I can’t handle it. It all happened like a light switch.
My first doctor told me “there’s no one thing that could cause your constellation of symptoms”. Well, that’s nice and I’m not arguing but I honestly just want my life back. It’s not normal for me to be bedridden with fatigue or dizzy when I walk to my car. My next doctor has been amazing. He actually suggested POTS, I’d never heard of it before, but the symptoms seem to line up. We’ve done tons of testing (and I went to the ER for chest pain at one point because it hurt to breathe and everything tasted like blood) and have ruled out things like tuberculosis and lupus. I have a Zio heart monitor on and an echocardiogram scheduled. My poor mans TTT shows a jump in about 30-45 bpm after 2 minutes and my HR doesn’t come back down until I sit down.
I guess I’m just venting and looking for support. If I do get diagnosed, can I look forward to solutions that will enable me to go back to hiking and working out and gardening? I sure hope so. Couch potato life is a drag.
Thankful for this sub!

2024.05.25 16:28 unstabilite TSH levels 8.26 but T levels in normal range?

Hi guys, please don't judge if i am not making sense here, this is why i am posting to understand better. I did my annual exam last week and my doctor calls be two days ago saying that my thyroid levels are high and i may have hypo. she said I may have to go on medication but they want to take my t3 free test and see. Its the weekend now but I did get my results:
TSH: 8.26 mIU/L
T3, FREE: 2.5pg/mL (standard range: 2.3 to 4.2)
T4, FREE: 1.2ng/dL (Standard range: 0.8 to 1.8)
T3 TOTAL; 72 ng/dL (Standard range: 76 to 181)
I am confused because it seems like my T's are in the normal range but my thyroid levels are high.
I do want to add what i am/ was taking:
Strattera: non stimulant ADHD meds
Protein powder: 40g Creatine
and i was on depo Provera for 3 months and was supposed to get my shot on May 7th but never went.

My emotions are too strong, I really just want to stop feeling, but I don’t want to be a drug addict or anything like that that will make my life worse
I can normally hands my emotions, but when I have an hormonal disbalance it’s too difficult, I feel like I have no choice, I don’t want to keep experiencing this over and over.
I’m on depo provera, but if not, my PMS is even worse every month 1 week, but I least I can know it is that I guess.

2024.05.24 04:47 a_little_stitious1 Bleeding and Birth Control?

Long story short, I am curious about what type of "irregular bleeding" is typical with the Depo-Provera shot.
Background: About six months ago, I began experiencing some irregular bleeding - a period every 2-3 weeks or so. I went to my OBGYN, and she suggested I take birth control to normalize it. I'm in my early 30's and, until then, had been using non-medical methods of birth control. It made sense to take something to regulate my hormones. As a pleasant side effect, it would also make me eligible to begin Accutane.
I first tried for a Mirena IUD. After two failed insertions, my doctor recommended that I try something else. I opted for the progesterone pill, Nora-B. While on it, I had spotting almost every day. After a month, I learned that progesterone pills were not an accepted form of birth control for Accutane. I talked to my doctor again. I am ineligible to take combination birth control pills because I have a history of visual migraines, and my doctor recommended against the implant because of my wariness of mood changes. My only option left was the Depo-Provera shot.
Now: I am just about to hit the one month mark since receiving my first shot. I have continued to bleed lightly every day since I received it. Three days out of the last week and a half, I have had period-like cramps and period-like heavy bleeding, but it only lasts for 12-24 hours and then tapers back off to a trickle. Can anybody share whether this falls into the category of "normal" irregular bleeding? I am afraid to contact my doctor because this is my last birth control option. If this does not work out, then I have no way to regulate my hormones and I am completely ineligible for Accutane (which I am due to begin next week). Thank you in advance.

2024.05.23 22:54 Worldly-Mess-907 How long did it take for the depo shot weight to come off?

hi! i don’t know if any other women who have taken the depo provera shot can relate but february 2023 i started the depo and i got my second shot in may 2023 then my third in august 2023. my doctor told me that the possible side effect was weight gain but assured me because of my mom’s genetics “i wouldn’t gain weight” for reference all of my life i have been pretty skinny at that time i was 18 at 110-112 pounds and i have been active all my life doing cross country and track in high school.
i didn’t notice the weight gain until september 2023 when i went to the gyn for another reason and saw my weight was 120 which caught me off guard because although i started college nothing has changed in my schedule i still ran, went to the gym, i always eat clean and healthy (3 meal-ishes a day and snack some dessert if needed) I never thought about what I ate when i was in highschool because i was active and didn’t have any disordered eating.
after i saw i gained the weight i was done with the shot and didn’t get it anymore. i got my period back december 2023 and i thought my body was going to start to change to how it was. since then i saw no change, i saw my gyn doctor and he said it takes 8 months so april 2024 i should expect things to start to change back. this current may i come back from college and weigh myself at 130 and i have never weighed this much before and i do not fit into my pants moved from 2 to 4ish i notice it a lot in my thighs and hips even my face and arms and i feel so hopeless nothing will change.
i run everyday, workout, and eat clean. i know bodies change on their own but 20 pounds in less than a year? I know my weight isn’t concerning and i’m not overweight but it doesn’t feel like my body anymore and ive never felt so self conscious. my therapist told me to “trust my body” but i’m losing hope and when i research it says everything returns to normal after your period comes but i still feel stuck and alone. please share your thoughts, experience, help, or anything .

2024.05.23 20:27 maniccatmeow Need bc, but so reactive idk what to try.

Let's start it off with i need BC as soon as possible. Lol
My husband will be home in another month or two (Military) and I CANNOT be with child or I will possibly take a dirt nap.
Here's the problem... OB says I can't take Estrogen because I have Vestibular Migraines so I'm at risk for stroke, I was on Depo-provera too long and they took me off because my bones, and my OB also did not recommend the copper IUD because he says he takes that one back out the most because side effects. We settled on the Mini Pill in November and I took myself off because it made me ANGRY all the time. I was constantly on edge. I felt coocoo gor cocoa puffs.
His other suggestion was either an IUD or Nexplanon, but I heard those are ALSO progestin which I'm scared that was the reason i went feral on the mini-pill.
OB is currently unable to get me in BUT they have clinic that can get me in to install an IUD or NEXPLANON.
Would these be viable options in your experience? Do they have similar reactions as the mini pill?
(Sterilization surgery isn't an option right this second but will be in the future we just gotta make it until then)

2024.05.22 21:46 MoriartyyPartyy Exhausted (Rant)

I’m so tired of being treated like I’m an insane woman for wanting a hysterectomy. Every gynecologist has told me I’m too young and uneducated to make this decision.
I am 22. I have endometriosis and PCOS. I have been on Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) since I was 15 years old due to extreme pelvic pain during menstruation. My sister, grandmother, great aunt and great grandmother have had ovarian cancer and endometriosis and have gotten hysterectomies. One of the gynecologists I saw (though I call this into question now, since he didn’t do any sort of testing) told me I was completely infertile.
I completely understand the risks and side effects of a total hysterectomy. I understand that osteoporosis is at a sharp risk (if ovaries are removed), I understand that it is irreversible, I understand that the endometriosis could grow back regardless of me having a uterus. But the thought that I don’t have to be in pain anymore trumps ALL of that. Plus, Depo-Provera has already begun to cause osteopenia in my spine. I understand this is reversible if I am ever to stop Depo-Provera, but I’m not going to. I am on this birth control to stop my menstruation completely because it is incredibly, horribly painful, and I am still having pain despite being on it, as well. This birth control is the only treatment 5 gynecologists have given me.
I am at my wits end. I am so, so tired of the condescending and belittling attitude of doctors. It’s not entirely even the refusal of a hysterectomy that bothers me, it’s the way they treat me for even suggesting it. I don’t want to develop cancer, I don’t want to be in pain anymore, and I do not want children, at least definitely not biologically.
I am tired.

2024.05.22 18:21 Eastern-Detail-249 Bleeding for 2 1/2 weeks

I had my first lap done April 24th and they claim to have found nothing. On May 1st, exactly one week later, I began to bleed heavily. I’ve been on Depo Provera since February of 2018 and have not had a period since. I know you’re not supposed to be on Depo that long but I get lab work annually to check on my bone density which is the main reason they don’t want you to stay on it that long. I feel as if Depo is my only option that stops my periods altogether which means no more agonizing and painful periods. However, the original reason that made me get a lap was I had randomly been bleeding and having severe abdominal pain in December and February (plus a lifetime of endo symptoms and my mother having it). I have been bleeding heavily since May 1st. Not to be too graphic but I’ve been passing blood clots and bleeding through pads and my underwear. I ruined a perfectly good pair of work pants. I went to my follow up appointment for the lap and my doctor prescribed progesterone and recommended getting off depo but this would cause me to have periods again which are painful for me. I’m scheduled to see a specialist in August but I’m worried I’m going to be bleeding until then. Does anyone have any advice or experienced this?

2024.05.22 15:42 alsznfl Depo Provera - Post 2 months

Two months ago, I got the depo shot for the first time. It was wonderful for one month without any side effects. After one month, I began spotting. The colour was a dark maroon tone and it would only come once every two-three days.
Now I am full on bleeding fresh blood. While it isn't like a period, I wear panty liners to avoid staining my underwear.
It has affected my sexual life with my partner. I know spotting is a common side effect but I have never had fresh red blood come out. I am planning not to take this shot again and will move on to another form of contraception.
Does anyone have similar experiences? How long can I expect this bleeding for?

2024.05.22 08:57 Dismal-Department608 Help I don’t know what’s going on… depo shot withdrawal??

Hey guys. Let me explain my situation. I got the depo-provera shot for the first time 3 months ago (February 19). It wasn’t my first option of birth control but since my doctor couldn’t get my CooperIUD inserted by the time I went for my appointment, I got the shot. Later on (March 8) I got my IUD inserted. Both forms of birth control were working at the same time, so I was 100% sure safe. Today is May 22 which means my shot was “over” 3 days ago. Btw it’s 2:43am. The reason I’m here is because I’ve been feeling nauseous for 5 nights now. No vomiting just really nauseous around the same time. I took 2 pregnancy test both were negative but my period is next month around 9th-16th. So there’s no way to have an accurate result until then. I had my period this month by the time I usually get it. 9th-16th However for the first time in those 3 months i stopped spotting after my period. My last time with my bf was 4 days ago (before the shot stopped) and the times I had sex after my last period were unprotected but no ejaculation. Now has anyone experienced nausea around the time their shot is due? And should I be worried about pregnancy?

2024.05.22 08:15 duchessofcaffeine going from depo to nexplanon?

hello! i (22f) have been on the depo provera shot for about 5-6 years and it has completely saved my life. i have pmdd so it’s been a godsend. i haven’t had a period since i started the depo, maybe one day a year i spot the tiniest bit. i do have to get my depo every 10 weeks because if i wait 12 im in emotional and physical misery. i do think this has contributed to about forty pounds of weight gain but i also don’t stress too much about that because i was still a teenager when i began it and i don’t think my body was an adult body. i saw my dr last week and she tells me how i might like the implant, i’ve had insurance issues lately with my shot trying to refill it. i can only do birth control with progesterone/progestin(?) i have chronic migraine and found these are the only kind i can tolerate. it would be amazing to not have to worry about my birth control and going to get it and have it administered but i’ve loved the depo so much and still want those benefits 🥴🥴🥴 so has anyone had issues switching from depo to nexplanon? have you ever had it go smoothly? period come back? do you have pmdd? probably rambled on too much but just needing info. thx!

2024.05.22 06:56 Usual-Fudge-3850 Stopping Depo Provera - Side effects?

Hi everyone, I (31) have recently stopped taking my depo injection after around 3/4 years with the view to us looking to start trying for a family in around 12 months.
It's been around a month since my shot was due so not long at all, and it's probably worth mentioning that I didn't experience any side effects on the shot, it worked perfectly for me, no bleeding, no weight gain, no acne etc. But since stopping I have been constantly unwell, full of fluey symptoms, constant nausea along with bad bowels every single day even with none triggering foods, headaches every day and often very severe migraine level, anxiety is completely out of control....
Is this normal, is it withdrawals? How long can I expect this to go on for before I start to feel somewhat normal? Are there any remedies that can help manage this period?
Would appreciate any advice of those who've stopped the depo and their experience with it as it really is quite horrible!

2024.05.21 14:42 Successful_Oven3448 Where to get birth control?

Hello, I am originally from Ottawa, and I have never needed to find BC here in Gat, because I used a, now closed, queer clinic. I have no primary doctor, and am on the wait list. Because the clinic closed, I cannot have the pharmacy fax (they tried). Google said CLSC, but they told me no. I have tried the 'clinique des femmes' but every time I call its just leave a message, no real people, and I have yet to get a call back.
I am not sure if I am just googling the wrong things, but I cannot find anything. I specifically take depo provera. At this point Ill even take for-pay places, and anywhere in Ottawa as well (but everyone Ive found says no Quebec residents).

2024.05.21 08:06 Leopard-Mountain Need help/advice!

About 8 months ago I got the Mirena IUD. Pretty much two weeks out of each month I am in bed ridden pain and on a heavy period. I went to my gynaecologist and they said I had a cyst about the size of a ping pong ball but that shouldn’t be causing me any pain. I just don’t know what to do. I can’t stay in pain like this so I’m thinking of removing my IUD, but a part of me feels like the pain is because of the cyst and removing the IUD would just put all the pain and time I’ve put into making this work to waste. For context I was on depo provera for YEARS and it worked amazingly for me! I got off it though because I’ve heard long term that it effects your bones and health, however I was never really in pain and had no period when I was on it. If anyone has any advice on what i should do id really appreciate it, I’m feeling so defeated:(

2024.05.21 06:29 ridiculousbxtch Best Birth Control You've Used? (w/ weird complication story)

So I (25f) have had mixed experiences with birth control. I have PCOS which obviously makes choosing a birth control complicated for some, including me. The first one I tried was the pill. I actually have tried two different ones, both making me bleed the entire time for months. I in general do not like bleeding more that a week each month. But it was always what was recommended to me. Anyways I went off that and ended up pregnant (did not go through with it) so I was deterred obviously. Fast forward I was told to try the Depo shot. Worked great, felt great, but when I had my period after the three month time frame I had a decidual cast (uterine lining comes out in one piece.) Terrified, I wanted to try something else so I tried the patch. Hated it because it kept coming off, would get gross, and had to change it once a week- also an eye sore. So I stayed off birth control for awhile and got lucky. I never wanted the IUD because of how many IUD babies there are and after termination I never wanted to experience opening of the cervix again. Nexplanon has a record for bleeding the first 3-6 months so....I went back on the shot last year. Everything was fine until it wasn't. I had my period as usual the first couple week breaks (heavy) then they got lighter after each three month time frame. Well I went off it in January for my cycle and....nothing. I've been cramping but nothing at all is happening. My OB has had me take three tests which all were negative. He also informed me I'm at higher risk of developing cancer because of my PCOS so he's really wanting me to have a cycle but after a five day dose of provera and waiting the two week still nothing. At most there was some brown spotting. I'm just wondering do I go back on birth control once I have a period (depending on test results as I plan on demanding we just run tests instead of trying the provera again- I missed my period for three months when I was 16 and it worked fine that time so something's obviously wrong). I'm asking personal advice as in what would other women do. Because I'm seeing someone I've dated before and we plan on dating and going as far as marriage but we don't really want bio kids right now (if at all) and condoms make me swell up. Also I am SO bloated and still cramping sometimes so I'm also just uncomfortable....What would you do? Just take your chances or try another method? Has anyone had a period situation like this (or lack there of)?
**I am NOT asking for medical advice I am just asking other women what they would do in my situation or if anyone has had a similar experience**

2024.05.20 22:40 Beemoeee Depo vs. Orilissa?

Anybody have experience with Depo Provera and Orilissa? I feel like I have tried most other options-Mirena, Kyleena, every combination and/or progesterone only pill to help with my endometriosis pain. At this point, my doctor recommends either Depo or Orilissa because we are trying to exhaust all other options before another surgery.
I’m scared of the side effects of Orilissa though and I also have a mood disorder and do not want that to negatively impact my mental health.
I am doing pelvic PT and a bunch of other treatments to help with pain levels but it just isn’t enough….
If anyone has taken either or both, how were your experiences?
