2024.05.06 02:36 Lagrange_system FuboTV Should Lose Premier League Rights

Fubo investors: I should state, I could care less which corporation gets rich off broadcasting rights for football (soccer), and I have no stake/interest in Fubo, or it's competitors, and have nothing personal against a random company. I'm just a football (soccer) fan who's been unfortunate enough to have FuboTV forced upon me.
I'm not sure how important football is to FuboTVs financials, or what programming earns the company money, but I'm gonna take an educated guess, and say the biggest league in the most popular sport in the world could be important. So hopefully someone at Fubo notices the problem with their football portfolio and addresses the issues accordingly; for the sake of the viewers, or atleast for the sake the sums of money involved.
Now, I don't know much about being a fancy business man or investor, but I do know football, and I know Fubo is failing to provide the quality of football broadcasting fans are accustomed to.
I'll be be fair though, and correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not privy to the information, but maybe football is a brand new market for Fubo, or maybe they are trying to cater to a north american market with different needs. I literally don't know or care, because if any of the above were true, why did DAZN quantifiably provide a better football streaming service?
  1. DAZN cared about the viewing experience: How? They made an effort to tailor the experience to meet expectations of fans. They tailored their content to respect footballs culture of suspense by not ever having spoilers. Yes it a thing and a big deal. And this is why I think Fubo is new to this or doesn't get football or it's fans. Soccer fans are hooligans for a reason, they care about the sport and enjoying it fully. Fubo please don't ruin the suspense of watching the game unfold, even for highlights. If you don't get why it matters, you don't deserve broadcast the games.
  2. DAZN ensured to maintain the deliver the quality and feel of the football competitions the broadcasted: Their Champions League broadcasts exemplify this. I.e the colours, the sounds, the entire setting and visuals of the broadcast is exactly what the Champions League is all about. They got it right and even have 15 mins highlights of games, with no spoilers... Fubo, please make an effort to present the Premier League for what it is, the most prestigious and successful league in the world. Currently, that's not whata being delivered when watching Premier League on Fubo. Everything is visually off, the colours, the sound, like it doesn't even feel like your watching the Premier League; You open the app and the click the game, and that's it, t feels flat, like atleast some music. Thank you Fubo for making mw realize how important producers are.. please Fubo, fix this, It doesn't feel like you're about to watch the biggest show in town. Unbelievably Lazy.
  3. DAZN functioned properly and on time: like seriously, Fubo seems not to functioning properly. Wtf are we paying for if they can't deliver the basics like editing, and sticking to a timely schedule for content uploads. On this alone, Fubo should stripped of the premier league rights.
I usually don't care about business shit, but when it's about football, fuck buyer beware! I haven't paid for Fubo in this entire season and will not next season because they greased themselves a monopoly somehow. Only in Canada.. it's bullshit and enables the quality of content Fubo puts out, lazy, over priced and utter shite!! Praying to the football gods DAZN or anyone half decent becomes and option again.

Ugh, 6 months in and a stranger in this city. Vancouver can be a bit of a grind, everyone hustling to pay that rent.
Maybe I can find a group that shares some passions besides surviving the daily commute, cause that Skytrain and bus can be a mood killer. Everyone looks depressed.
As for living the North American Dream, Forget that house on a salary here! Need to find myself a profitable business. Thinking of starting something, maybe there's a way to connect with other entrepreneurs and swap ideas. I need that. And some socializing with topic from the subject line.
Edit: Nepali Engineer here who recently moved into Canada (probably at the wrong time). working a shitty job trying to make ends meet and still struggling to.

2024.05.06 00:48 dannyday10700 CMV: Robert F Kennedy Jr should be president of The United States

I am doing this CMV because I want to see my country together again. I was born in 2000, all I have ever known is my country divided. It's depressing to me that it is this way. I love my country and everything it has done for our people. I want to see our people not divided.
I want to see the promise our forefathers gave to us, the promise our parents and grandparents were told. The promise to pursue happiness, we can not have that promise if we are divided. I want love for our country and our people.
I Believe that RFK Jr could end the division and unite the people. Here are my reasons why.
1.) He Genuinely wants to help our nation, unite our nation, and give power back to American people.
2.) He is Independent. What that means is that he has voters from both vaccinated and unvaccinated. He has voters from both Trump and Biden. He has voters that are pro life and pro choice. He has voters that are pro guns and anti guns.
3.) He's anti war and wants world peace.
4.) He cares about our environment and the health of the American people.
4.) He cares about the young people in America. He knows that many are depressed, angry, and lonely. He also knows that many are suffering from developmental and physical disabilities such as Autism, Asthma, and learning disabilities.
5.) Kennedy is a recovering drug addict. He's recovered from Heroin addiction and admits it.
He's honest about his struggles which is how a president should be. Both my mother, father, and grandfather were addicts that became sober. If he becomes president addicts all across America will have hope for not only recovering but a better brighter future.
I love you all, I love the USA, and I want to see US United and not Divided.
Edit 1: I'm vaccinated so I believe vaccines definitely can and do help people. However I do believe that we should study them much more.
We should study them for dangerous long term effects and short term effects. Some people are not effected the same way.
Now for the breaking of the 2 party system. I think because a lot of people on both sides want change, and are tired of the two party system. Many supporters could leave both Trump and Biden to gravitate twords Kennedy.
I do have to say is that we haven't seen Kennedy debate Trump or Biden yet which is something that we really need. We will see later this year how this goes.

2024.05.06 00:41 Trash_Tia Something ate through my Scholastic Decathlon team. I think I'm infected too, and our school bus is not stopping.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be dead in the next 24 hours.
Whether that's the Costella family, or whatever this is, I'm not sure.
The police are taking forever, and part of me knows they're either refusing to believe me, or RC got them too.
I'm holed up on our school bus, so I've got nothing better to do.
I want to tell you about my team.
We met in our sophomore year.
Strangers standing outside the club room.
Levi was the freckled brunette who wouldn't stop talking about Game of Thrones.
Sunny, a pretty redhead, told him to shut up.
Tom, a sandy blonde, nodding his head to music corked in his ears.
I just wanted to be part of a club, and get away from my overbearing mother.
I won't say it was a perfect start. Our school was lacking in funding, so anyone could join, which made us more of a Quiz Club. I had some serious anxiety, so I stayed on the sidelines for a while, watching, rather than taking part.
It's not like we actually talked to each other initially. The first few weeks, we played Jeopardy, and attempted to find more members to cement us as an official Academic Decathlon club.
Unfortunately, though, it was just the four of us.
Which made it extremely hard for us to be taken seriously.
According to Google, Academic Decathlon teams were made up of nine members, placed by their GPA.
Our principal laughed at us, but he did let us become official.
Which was out of pity, I assumed.
The club was assembled, and we started meeting up after school.
Sort of.
Sunny barely showed up, and Levi didn't take anything seriously, preferring to spend the time telling us about his weird family turf-war.
Our principal dumped us in a tiny classroom with a resident rat living under the floorboards.
There was barely enough room to move, and the four of us crammed together for three hours was less than appealing.
Still, though, I wanted to be part of a club.
I had grown up with parents who were obsessed with board games, so I was pretty good at general knowledge questions. Our club room was too small for anything else but three desks (Sunny and I shared one) and a whiteboard we had to shove through the door.
But, again, we didn't start as an Academic club.
It was more akin to Story Time Club.
Arriving late on my third day, armed with quiz cards from home, I found Tom and Sunny completely mesmerised by Levi’s storytelling skills, drowned in shadow.
They didn't even turn the lights on.
I strictly remember squeezing next to Sunny, and hearing the words, “But there was so much blood all over the floor, and my Mom told me to go upstairs and hide under the bed…”
Sitting in front of them was Levi, perched on a desk, his legs swinging, a whiteboard marker between his teeth.
Sometimes he'd get up, and illustrate parts of his story.
It sucked that his drawings were all stick people.
I won't go into full details of his life, but Levi grew up as part of a family who had… interesting methods of making a living. I had seen the guy’s father multiple times when we hung out at his place, and, yeah, my friend’s family definitely had Soprano vibes.
Levi’s Draw My Life was nothing to do with the club, but it did bring us closer.
Even if, at that point, I was considering leaving.
But it's not like it was easy to walk away from these guys. It's like finding your soulmates. Levi wasn't the only one with an interesting life. Sunny Lang was an ex kpop trainee, who was kicked out for being too fat, which led her to develop a severe eating disorder, and a hatred for her own body.
Sunny explained her family were originally from Boston, her mother growing up in Korea.
She signed up for an idol agency focusing on creating a new girl group, and had gotten all the way to the final stages, before being kicked for her weight. Sunny told us her story with a smile, though there was a hollowness in her eyes I couldn't ignore. The other girls were judgemental bullies, and the idol diet and brutal regime almost killed her.
Sunny lived in a tiny apartment with 9 girls, who would tear each other apart for a chance to debut. Sunny said all the other girls debuted, and when we (not so patiently) asked for names, she shrugged, admitting she signed an NDA that prevented her spilling the beans.
What she did say, was the K-pop idol is a product, not a person– and are made and moulded into a product.
She had zero interest in throwing her humanity away to become a manufactured doll.
So, one of us was the son of an underground family, and the other was an ex idol.
Tom was an aspiring horror writer with a famous older step-brother.
His story times were usually, That one time I went to the Met Gala.
When it was my turn to reveal my story, I told them the only interesting thing about me.
I could smell when something bad was going to happen.
They laughed, but I was being serious.
When I was a kid, I smelled my mother’s brain tumor.
I remember it smelled like curdled milk.
I asked Mom why her head smelled of mouldy milk, and Mom laughed and said it was her shampoo.
It was actually a grade two tumor growing inside her brain.
Thankfully, the tumour was found quickly and removed.
Growing older, I became sensitive to smell. The little girl choking on the bus smelled of singed wood, and the old man crossing the road stunk of gasoline.
In the fourth grade, my classmate Alex Castor smelled of lemons all morning.
I sat behind him, choking on the stink all the way through class.
Ever since I met him, Alex had always smelled… off.
It was a distinct smell I could never understand, and as the days and months and years went by, that smell morphed into a subtle orangey musk that was so strong I had to cover my mouth and nose. Then, he smelled like lemons.
During Recess, I watched Alex fall off of the jungle gym, straight onto his head.
Alex Castor was dead before the paramedics arrived, my panicked teacher attempting CPR when his brains were leaking out of his ears.
The school claimed it was an accident, but Alex would have been fine if the jungle gym wasn't built on solid concrete.
I told my team members this, and Levi was sceptical.
“You can smell bad things?” He said, his lips curved around his milkshake straw. In the early days, we hung out in the local bar. It's not like we were allowed inside, but Levi could get us in anywhere.
I was squeezed between Tom and Sunny, while Levi took the seat opposite us. I couldn't help noticing our waitress was insisting on free milkshake refills, her frantic eyes glued to Levi.
I had zero idea why. Levi Costella was about as intimidating as a fruit fly.
Wearing a white shirt with a popped collar, a leather jacket thrown over the top, Levi was giving rebellious Harvard student, rather than son of a crime family.
Leaning forward, he raised a brow, clearly not believing me.
“So, you're like a stink psychic?”
I shrugged, sipping my own shake.
“Sure.”
I wasn't planning on telling him the club room smelled off on our first day.
Once we actually started the club, Levi surprised us as the smartest member, and getting to know him further, I came to the realization his family were infamous in our town.
However, his parents hid it well. Lucy and Michael Costella were the owners of a popular ramen store in our town, hiding under the facade of two successful business owners. The Costella’s were an attractive family.
Lucy was a sophisticated brunette with a lipstick smile, Michael, a handsome fluffy haired man who looked like he modelled glasses.
The two were fiercely protective over their youngest son, not so casually reminding us behind grinning smiles, that if anything happened to Levi, we would automatically be involved in the family.
I mean, they did laugh and say, “We’re joking! Look at your little faces!” when Sunny went deathly pale. But there was definitely truth behind their words.
Being Levi’s friend was… challenging at first.
Tom and I were in his room studying for finals, and an alarm went off, flooding Levi’s room in red light.
I had zero idea where it was coming from, but it locked all the doors and windows, forcing the Costella residence into temporary lockdown. Levi didn't seem fazed, casually mentioning his parents were taking care of it.
He had a whiteboard set up in his room, and was standing in front of it, cramming all of our textbook notes into one easily digestible drawing.
Levi wasn't just smart.
He was Ivy League smart, so we had struck gold with him.
His family were questionable, and yes, sometimes I did fear for my life, but as the more time we spent at his house, the Costella household became a second home. We got used to the alarms.
I just brought along ear plugs.
I wish I was writing this post about Levi’s family, and sure, they are a factor in what is going on right now, but I want to preface this by saying the events below involve the 2024 scholastic decathlon final in our town with the school’s listed:
Starbrook High School.
Ratcliffe High School.
Please note, the incident that took place last night was immediately covered up, and all phone footage was destroyed. Our town is mostly out of the way, and does not show up on Google searches.
We also have our own version of the academic decathlon, which is a more town-level competition, due to lacking funds. The four of us were desperate to start competing with our schools.
So, we started taking things a little more seriously.
We got a coach.
Mr Hanes, who was hesitant at first.
In his words, “You will hate me as your coach.”
He started by recruiting more members, announcing, “If you want to be taken seriously as an actual club, then I'll be taking the reins from now on.”
He did, and with our teachers guidance (and sometimes brutal honesty), we reached a level where we could start competing with other school’s in town. Now, none of us knew this, but Mr Hanes was obsessed with winning.
So, club meetings were twisted into two hour study sessions with no talking, followed by Mr Hanes Jeaprody, which was Jeaprody, without the actual fun.
We were quizzed multiple times, answer cards and practise questions quite literally thrown directly in our faces.
I hate to admit this (I really hate to admit this) but Mr Hanes’s tactics worked. Sure, we had been mildly brainwashed by our slightly unhinged coach, but with Levi Costella, we destroyed our competitors. Like I said, our town held their own version of the academic scholastic decathlon, but it was pretty much the same, with some changes.
Ten subjects. Language and Literature, Math, Social Science, Economics, Art, Music, Interview, Speech, and Essay.
Unlike the official Decathlon, ours was more like a game show, with the ability to be knocked out if a team member answers a question wrong. Whoever answers the most questions correctly wins. Team meet ups were either tests, study sessions, or quizzing each other.
Which leads me to last night.
The finals were held in the reigning champions, Ratcliffe High School’s, auditorium.
And we were about to win our town’s Scholastic Decathlon 2024 Championships.
Well…I was knocked out in the music section. Standing next to my coach who I was sure was going to asphyxiate from excitement, I could smell the sudden potent stink of lemon. I tried to ignore it at first, but the more questions my team were answering correctly, the smell got worse, suffocating my senses.
This wasn't just lemon. The stink was like a burning, singing smell trickling into my nose and the back of my throat.
It was stronger than what Alex smelled like.
This was suffocating, drowning my thoughts.
“Are you okay, Cassandra?”
Mr Hanes nudged me when a Ratcliffe girl was struggling to answer a question, only for Sunny to jump in with the answer. “You look quite pale.”
I nodded, forcing a smile.
My gaze was on the Ratcliffe coach, a scary looking blonde woman, whispering in one of her student’s ears.
The Ratcliffe kid freaked me out. He was way too tall, dark blonde hair, and bulging eyes I swear were not blinking.
His gaze was glued to Levi, who wore a smug grin.
There was a smaller girl next to the Ratcliffe kid, a Macbook balanced on her knee. Every so often, he leaned into her, the two of them in deep conversation.
“I'm just nervous.”
I jumped when Ratcliffe scored a point, their side erupting into cheers.
During the break, we had a mini team meeting.
Sunny rushed to the bathroom to freshen up, and I noticed a Ratcliffe girl with a bouncing ponytail following her.
Ignoring our coach’s speech, I joined the two girls in the corridor, that lemony scent hanging thick in the air.
I caught them in an awkward position.
The Ratcliffe girl had her fingers pinched between the material of Sunny’s dark blue shirt bearing our school’s name.
Sunny looked confused, her lips parted like she was going to yell.
Ponytail dropped her hand, suddenly, with a nervous laugh. “Oh! I'm so, so, sorry,” she gushed. “You had, like, the biggest spider crawling on your back.”
Sunny caught my eye, shooting me a reassuring smile.
“Thanks.” She made sure to keep her distance. “Uh, where's your bathroom?”
The Ratcliffe girl nodded down the hallway. “It's just down there. I'm going there too if you want me to show you?”
Sunny motioned for me to go back to the auditorium. “Uh, sure! That'd be great!”
I did try to follow them, only for Sunny to cough loudly.
I took the hint, reluctantly heading back into the auditorium.
My team was hyping each other up, Levi in the centre, sweating through his team shirt. He ran a trembling hand through his hair. “I can't do this,” He groaned. “Ratcliffe High is known to play dirty, man. They're unbeatable.”
“In what way do they play dirty?” I asked, joining them.
Levi gulped down water, shrugging.
“I dunno! They're already trying to distract me with the stink eye.” The boy narrowed his eyes at a grinning Ratcliffe kid who, after noticing our stares, jumped to his feet, waving at us.
“Hey guys!”
“That's Harry Cartwright, the son of the Cartwright family who tried to kill my parents in the third grade.” Levi mockingly waved back. “As you can see, their kid is a fucking sociopath.”
Huh. I wasn't expecting the smiley kid to be the mobster’s son.
Harry Cartwright was not what I expected.
Unlike his team members, he was the only one in casual clothing, a short sleeved white shirt and jeans, a pair of sunglasses perched on top of his head.
Tom went pale.
“Fuck.” He hissed. “He’s one of you? Then those bastards will have a reason to play dirty, right?”
Levi shrugged, averting his gaze. It was the first time I saw his eyes darken, like he was subtly telling the boy to back off.
“The Cartwright’s have been trying to buy our land for a while,” he muttered. “I wouldn't put it past them to use the Decathlon as a way to attack.”
“Attack?!” April, another member of our team, hissed. “Like, attack attack?”
Mr Hanes grabbed the boy, resting his hands on Levi’s shoulders. “Ignore them,” he said. “Hey. Look at me.”
Levi did, raising a brow.
“You're losing that spark in your eye, young man.”
“Spark?”
Our coach nodded. “Look at me, kid.”
Levi rolled his eyes. “I am looking at you, Mr Hanes.”
The man was shaking. I was guessing his whole career (or coaching career) was on the line.
“They know they're losing, Mr Costella.”
Hanes shook the boy, squeezing his shoulders. “You are being positive and Ratcliffe doesn't like that. They want you to be nervous. They want to make you second guess yourself and lose confidence. Don't let them get into your head.” he smiled, giving the boy a playful shove. “Kick their asses.”
“Exactly!”
I didn't realize Sunny was back from the bathroom.
The faint smell of lemons had followed her. I noticed a wet patch on her shirt collar, though she was quick to smile at me, admitting she'd spilled water down herself. Sunny wrapped her arms around Levi, squeezing him into a hug.
She hung on for a little too long, Tom dragging her away with a laugh. “Good luck, all right?” she backed away, ruffling his hair. “We’ve got this!”
When I hugged Levi good luck too, I had to resist covering my nose.
The smell of lemon was unbearable, just like fourth grade Alex.
But it wasn't as potent as earlier.
I vaguely remembered the smell starting to fade once Alex’s body was being carted away on a stretcher.
Following my captain through the crowd, I was right. The smell was less suffocating. Before he went back to the stage, I grabbed the back of his shirt.
The material was soaking wet.
“How are you so wet?” I said, swiping my hands on my shirt.
“Huh?”
I shook my head. “Never mind. Do you remember what I told you in sophomore year?”
Levi settled me with a confident, but nervous smile. “Thaaaat you're scared of clowns?”
“No. I mean the boy who smelled of lemons.” I gritted out.
Levi surprised me with a laugh. “What are you talking about?”
Something ice cold trickled down my spine.
Levi did know what I was talking about. He brought up my stink sense a day earlier in front of his parents, and I had to cover his mouth to shut him up.
Leaning close, I whispered in his ear. “You stink of rotten lemons.”
He nodded slowly, pulling away. “Uh… thanks?”
I bit back a hiss of frustration. “No, you don't understand what I'm saying–”
“Starbrooke High School,” The host announced. “Can all members please return to the stage.”
Levi held up his hand for a high five.
“Can we do this later?” He winked. “I'm kinda busy carrying this spelling-bee on my back right now.”
I nodded shakily, high fiving him, and letting him jump back onto the stage.
Before his words hit like a tidal wave, ice cold water slammed into me.
Spelling Bee?
Slowly making my way back to the stands, Levi’s mistake was circling around my head. He did win a spelling bee, but that was in middle school.
Thankfully, the smell of lemons was gone when I returned to my seat.
Mr Hanes handed me a soda. “Chill out, Cassandera, it's just a game.”
He could talk. The guy was on his fifth coffee.
Mr Hanes was not chilled out in the slightest.
Surprisingly, the event went well. I was half expecting my team to be crushed by the rafters, or caught in a blaze started in the crowd. But we were doing well. No, we were winning.
Reaching the climaxing round, Sunny choked against a smug Ratcliffe boy, joining me on the sidelines.
Levi answered the next question with a confident smile.
We were winning, but Ratcliffe could still catch up with a miracle.
The second to last question was to Ratcliffe, and it was general knowledge.
”Where on the human body would one find the *orbit?*
I knew the answer, and so did Levi, his lips breaking out into a smile when the Ratcliffe boy was hesitating, eyes wide.
Our school’s buzzer went off, Levi slamming his hand down.
Bzzz!
The host turned to our team. “Starbrooke, can I have your answer?”
Levi nodded, shooting our team a victory grin.
“It's…!“ He opened his mouth to answer, his jaw slackening suddenly.
The boy’s shoulders slumped.
“Uh… “
“Um…”
“Huhhhhh…”
Levi inclined his head, blinking, his eyes glazing over. There was a sudden, hollow vacancy that sent chills down my spine. It was like someone had reached into his skull, and yanked out his brain, leaving a shell in his place.
To my confusion, our team captain frowned at his buzzer like he'd never seen one before. He pressed it, exploding into child-like giggles.
Bzzz!
The audience laughed along nervously.
Tom nudged me. “What the fuck is he doing?”
Bzzz Bzzz Bzzz!
Levi’s entire body was slumped, his hand slamming down on the buzzer.
I caught something pooling down his chin.
“Is he… drooling?” I whispered.
Mr Hanes looked mildly horrified. “Has he been drinking?
“Levi?” Tom spluttered. “Drinking?!"
Whatever we were watching, however, was definitely influenced by… something.
Bzz. Bzz. Bzz. Bzz. Bzz!
“Young man, that is not a toy!”
The host wasn't amused. “Starbrooke High School, I need an answer from you,” He nodded to Levi, who was pressing the buzzer, his smile growing.
“Once again,” The host backed away, like Levi was contagious. “Where on the human body would one find the Orbit?”
Levi cocked his head, lips parted.
His gaze found the overhead lights, and he winced, his lips curling into a frown.
“Starbrooke High School!”
Levi jumped, tipping his head back and blowing a raspberry. “Palm tree?”
The audience laughed, and I started feeling nauseous.
Across from us, I could see the twist of a smirk on the Ratcliffe coach’s lips.
Bzzz! Levi slammed the buzzer again giggling.
“Starbrooke High School, if your team member continues to act like this, I will be forced to disqualify all members.”
Our captain stopped, gaze glued to the host, his hand creeping towards the buzzer, like it was a big red button.
The audience loved it, laughing like they were watching a sitcom.
“He wouldn't.” Tom whisper-shrieked.
The auditorium was silent for a moment, awaiting Starbrooke’s response.
Levi stuck out his tongue, slamming his hand down.
Bzzz! Bzzz! Bzzz! Bzzz! Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz–
When Tom dragged Levi away from his podium, a Ratcliffe girl hit her buzzer.
“Starbrooke High School, you are disqualified,” the host announced. “Ratcliffe High School, do you have an answer?”
It was Ponytail who nodded with a grin.
“The answer is the eye socket! The Orbit is part of the eye socket!”
“That is the correct answer.” The host was distracted, his eyes glued to Levi.
“Ratcliffe High School wins.”
Levi jumped when the Ratcliffe wide erupted into cheers.
His eyes were wide, clinging onto the buzzer for comfort.
Next to me, our coach looked like he was going to faint.
I barely noticed Ratcliffe’s victory, too busy watching our team captain, who was Harvard bound, tipping his head back and smiling at the ceiling like a new-born baby. Tom dragged the stumbling boy over to me, his mouth twisted.
“This was Ratcliffe, right?” He hissed, shaking our captain, who was struggling, squirming in his grip.
“Did they put something in his drink?!” He prodded Levi. “Hey! What did they do to you?!”
Still, though, drugging his drink didn't make sense.
Levi never left the auditorium, and kept his water bottle with him the whole time.
How did they even manage to slip something into his drink in the first place?
Did I smell our competitors drugging him?
Sure, intentionally inebriating my teammate was morally wrong and illegal, but why could I smell lemon?
“I doubt it was Ratcliffe.” Sunny squeezed next to me. “I've been watching them. They're harmless.”
“Then how the fuck do we explain this to his parents?!” Tom whispered, grappling with Levi, who was fighting to get back to the buzzer.
When Tom let go of him, he dropped onto the floor, crawling over to his podium. It was like watching a child.
Who was determined to piss off the adults.
Levi jumped back to instead feet, his gaze was glued to the host, a smile curved on his lips, when he slammed the buzzer again.
Bzzz!
“Someone, please remove the Starbrooke boy from the stage!”
I was embarrassed, our whole team ducking our heads as our captain was forcibly removed from the podium.
Mr Hanes grabbed Levi, pulling him off of the stage.
I expected our coach to be mad at him, but I think the teacher was more worried, a phone pressed to his ear while he forced the boy into a sitting position.
No, I don't think it's influence from alcohol, I could hear his conversation.
Levi kept trying to get up, mesmerised by the buzzer. The teacher was firm but gentle. “Hey. Sit down, all right? Keep still.” He went back to his phone call, gently prying Levi’s eyes open.
From what I can see, there's nothing wrong. He's just kind of…
Mr Hanes swiped his own hands on his jeans. ... wet?
Team Ratcliffe came over to rub it in our faces, though I was still tuned into our coach’s hissed whispering.
Water? No, I don't think it's water. It smells… no, I haven't told his parents…
“You guys did awesome!” Ponytail's voice was sugary sweet. Too sugary.
She held the 2024 trophy, bearing a satisfied smile. I noticed the Ratcliffe members were surrounding Harry, like guards.
“Better luck next time, okay?” She held out her hand, her eyes twinkling.
“No hard feelings?”
“Control your dog.” Harry said, amused eyes flicking to Levi, who was once again sprinting back to the fucking buzzer. His eyes had visibly darkened, lips curled into a triumphant smile.
Harry Cartwright was watching Mr Hanes chase our team captain like it was his own personal entertainment.
I had to look away before I died of second hand embarrassment.
“What did you put in his drink?” Tom demanded. “Weed? Edibles?” the boy attempted to shove Harry, only to be pushed back. “What the fuck did you do to him?”
Harry’s smile didn't waver. “Like I said. Control your mut.”
When the Ratcliffe team walked away, our red faced coach struggling with Levi, who was behaving progressively more erratically, informed us we were longer welcome inside the school.
Tom suggested calling an ambulance, but our coach was hesitant.
We all knew who Levi’s family were.
On the way out, Tom matched my stride. He was frowning at our team captain struggling to walk.
The way he was acting was already eyebrow raising.
But walking at an angle and being unable to stand up straight was worrying.
“I don't think they drugged his drink.” Tom muttered.
We pushed through the doors out of the school, and I revelled in the cool night air grazing my cheek. “If they did, he would be acting out of it, right? So, what's the deal with him acting like–”
“A child.” I finished for him.
“Yeah.” Tom leaned closer. “Do you think this has something to do with their turf war?”
I slapped at a bug creeping across my cheek.
Levi fell over again, this time bursting into giggles.
“Almost definitely.”
Levi was right about Ratcliffe playing dirty. I didn't realize how dirty until we were on the losers bus home. Levi was in the seat next to me, and the kid hadn't moved since we left Ratcliffe, his eyes wide, lips pulled into a dazed grin.
Bzzz!
The noise startled me from slumber. I was drooling, my head pressed against the window. Outside, the sky was pitch dark, and squinting through the glass, I couldn't get a bearing on where we were. I thought I was hearing things, but when I sat up, I heard it again.
Bzzz!
It was close.
Leaning over the boy, I glimpsed a smear of scarlet on his headrest.
I choked on my next words.
“Tom.”
Tom was in front of me, listening to music.
He didn't reply, his head of dark blonde curls nodding to the beat.
“Levi.” I managed to get out. I prodded him, and his head lolled into his shoulder. “Hey. Can you… sit up?”
Bzzz! Bzzz!
When the boy didn't move, I gently grabbed his shoulders and pulled him forward myself, something contracting in my stomach.
I don't know how long it takes for your mind to fully register something, but my body was already reacting.
Levi’s seat was infested with bugs, eating their way through the upholstery. I was aware of my body moving back. I threw up, instantly, screaming into my hand.
The back of my best friend's skull resembled a deflated soccer ball, what was left of his brain leaking from his skull where a swarm of skittering bugs chewed their way through brain tissue, metallic legs scratching the curved, pearly white of the base if his skull.
Levi’s head hung, his body flopping into mine.
But his eyes were still open, lips still stretched into a smile.
Blood ran in thick rivulets from his nose and ears.
Bzzz!
I could see them, black writhing dots alive in his eyes, wriggling movement under his skin.
“Tom!”
I jumped up, stumbling into the aisle, my stomach heaving.
And it was only when I was on my knees, swiping bile from my lips, when I realized the others weren't reacting.
Tom wasn't moving.
I pulled an Airpod out of his ear, a long, slithering string of pink attached to the end.
There was a stray bug skittering across his hand, his face starting to twitch and writhe.
Moving back, I checked myself over, my hands shaking.
Head.
Shoulders.
Hair.
Clawing through it, my breath was stuck in my throat.
Arms.
Legs.
Feet.
Mr Hanes was slumped against the window, a reddish froth bubbling from his mouth.
Sunny.
I started towards the back of the bus, but all I had to see was her bowed head, half of her skull chewed through.
Sunny was in a far more deteriorated state, her face had been ripped through, a skeletal smile glinting in the dim.
The thick black smear on the window next to her was moving.
When I screamed for the driver to stop the bus, he ignored me.
If anything, he stamped on the gas.
I moved forward to shake him, before glimpsing a bug creeping down his face.
Calling 911, the operator laughed at me.
“Bugs are eating your friends.” He said. “Do you know the penalty for calling with bullshit pranks?”
The bus didn't stop, so I stayed at the front, while the bugs took over the back, eating through my teammates.
After four hours, I risked leaning over the seat next to Tom to check on Levi.
They were eating him.
Chewing all the way through skin, muscle and bone.
I tried to stop the bus, but the driver’s hands were tightly wrapped around the wheel.
Another hour, and blood was seeping down the aisle, crawling with bugs.
Levi was gone, and in his place, a buzzing skittering pile of bugs, that I thought were going to move to a second victim, maybe burrowing into the seats.
But, no.
These things began to tremble, replicating.
Building.
Slowly, nothing became static, and static became muscle.
Then bone.
Then flesh.
When a body began to slowly form, moulded from the dead boy, I stumbled back.
These things weren't eating Levi Costella.
They were rewriting him.

Edit: I'm still on the bus. I'm 99.9% sure that I'm infected with whatever this thing is. I can't stop fucking itching.
I keep picking them off me but they won't stop. This bus isn't going to stop until I'm like the others.

Edit 2:
I can feel them chewing into my skull. They're in my ears. I keep spitting them out. Please, someone get them off of me. Help me. I don't want to die at 17.
Edit 3:
Still alive. Still breathing. Maybe they're leaving me alone????? I think I'm okay. There is a pile of bugs at my feet, but they're crawling off of me.
Edit 4:
Levi really wants to go home. Like, he just told me he REALLY wants to go home. He's got a gift for his parents.
I have a feeling I know what it is.

2024.05.06 00:27 A_million_things Buzzcut + bleach

I have recently shaved my hair down to the skin, because I had so many bald spots that I couldn’t hide them anymore. Also, I realized that as long as I could feel my hair and pull it, I would continue. (For the record, I’m a woman with 3b curly and very dark brown hair, and it was shoulder length. I would use heat and/or relaxers to straighten it, which didn’t help the pulling).
I had trich since I was 13 (I’m now in my late 30s) but it was always pretty mild and manageable (mostly pulling split ends and more recently, gray hairs). Then I started ADHD medications a few months ago and my trich increased 10000%. I started pulling every hair that felt "weird" from my scalp. Within 3 months, I had bald spots on half of my head, and eventually I figured the ADHD meds were the cause. I since reduced my stimulants prescription to a minimum (I don’t want to stop them because they help me function, since my ADHD is quite severe).
But now my challenge is that the regrowth triggers me to pull again (with tweezers because it’s too short to grab with my fingers). Even though my hair is only about 2 mm long (1/16 inch for Americans), I scrutinize every "weird" hair and pull it. I am also triggered by the fact the the regrowth is uneven, so that leads me to shave it again back to the skin (I did it 3 times in the past month), even though I want to grow my hair and have it long again.
So I figured a potential solution to this, and wanted to know what you guys think about it. I want to bleach it to platinum blonde, so that I won’t be able to see the regrowth as much and the bald spots won’t be as visible to me (I wear a headcover outside anyways). That way, I could let it grow in peace. I know bleach is damaging, so I plan to do this until my hair reaches maybe 1-2 inches. By then, hopefully, the bald spots will have grown back.
In the meantime, I’m also trying the medication memantine (prescribed by my psychiatrist), as recent studies showed it might help (I previously tried NAC but it gave me heartburns, and memantine seems to be as effective according to studies). I also got the book "Overcoming Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors" to work on strategies by myself. So hopefully, I can eventually stop pulling in a few weeks and won’t need to resort to bleaching.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: for typos

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Salvatore Greco announced two ideas (at the time in development) during his press conference in front of City Hall:
+ Archibald Lambda Memorial Fund:
This fund will now be designed to apply for, to receive direct, immediate, compensation, to up to $2000 can be re-imbursed for the victim of a crime. Examples mentioned: Mechanic van towed, kidnapped, shot, robbed, etc. Focused for more petty crimes, where something is not turned into a bigger court case.
+ 45 Day Contracts:
People will be able to blindly bid on a business idea, and will be able to run it for 45 days, and receive wages, directly from the state, based on their request. If it doesn't work, another bid would take place for that temporary business.
‎ ‎
However, the Mayor, Sean Deane, had not agreed to these ideas, which resulted in a text/twitter debate between the two.
One important question answered was that the following Mayors will have 4 month terms.

  • Ballas commit Terrorism
+ Context:
On May 2nd, 10:30 PM EST, the Attorney General was kidnapped from the DMV by the Ballas.
The 4 individuals, Giovanni Gambino, Glenn Armstrong.Jr, Edgar Valentin and Bob American, expressed that this kidnapping was for Greco threatening to go after the Ballas' assets over text and because Edgar Valentin was kept in jail for a long time for Treason.
Before this incident, the Ballas already had gone after Humphrey Montagu Pennyworth for the same reason, and they stated they would keep doing so.
‎ ‎
+ Timeline of events:
Greco was moved to Fort Zancudo, where further discussions ensued. At one point, Glenn accidentally fires his weapon, which causes them to move to a different location, the Chicken Factory.
Of course, while the criminals had Salvatore, the whole police force was on alert for the AG. During his search, Sgt. Nixon responded to a suspicious call of a car-jacking, up in Paleto and, because he was already close to it, Nixon decided to scout the Chicken Factory, a common kidnapping spot.
Nixon spotted a vehicle matching the exact description parked behind the spot.
‎ ‎ ‎ Funnily enough, the car was spotted not even 5 minutes after its arrival to the Chicken Factory.
While the cops were setting up to breach, one of the Ballas heard them, which resulted in a gunfight, with more than 5 police officers going down.
While in the hospital bed, Greco gives his statement to Nixon. His statement, clearly indicates that the Ballas involved were committing Terrorism.

During their bail hearing, two Balla members attacked the courthouse, shooting down two cops.
One of the cops shot down, Ranger Jackson Tyler (zuven_au), died from the gunshot wounds.

  • Burgershot is now inoperable
Because of the increase of rain in Los Santos, the burger on top of Burgershot started to absorb too much water, growing in size.
Multiple civilians and members of the police force came together to try to remove the water from the burger, but their effort was in vain.
A ramp was placed, as an attempt to nudge the burger out of the roof with the force of a vehicle.
After multiple attempts, the roof of Burgershot collapsed and turned the food establishment inoperable.

2024.05.05 23:50 Desert_Fox13 [TOMT][Graphic Novel] comic about an elephant that goes to art camp or class and goes on adventure to uncover some secret

What I know for sure: - set in a universe of animals. - Some other characters in the class include a dog (who the protagonist becomes friend with) and the teacher who is a whale in an a giant bowl moved by tank treads. - early in the book the dog asks the elephant what she (or he?) is eating, and it’s a sandwich - they get involved with clay sculpting - someone tries build a submarine - cover was blue - art work was black and white in the edition I read at least
Unsure facts: - characters going through underground tunnels - a rumored monster in town

2024.05.05 23:39 mentaly_social This kid doxxed the APUSH teacher and it's not even his first time doxxing

A couple days ago this kid in APUSH (AP US History) walked up to his teacher and started showing him a picture of him in front of his house. He started going about, "Hey is this familiar to you?" a couple times and when the teacher said yes and that it's really creepy of him taking a picture of that teachers house the kid just straight up says the teachers entire house address in front of the class out loud.
The day after that, he was sent to another class and in spite of that he went to the police and filed a report that the teacher touched him (of course the teacher didn't, the kid's bluffing).
But now the police are heavily involved and opened a case where the APUSH gc of our school got leaked and kids in the gc are getting called to the counselors office to get interrogated by the police officers.
The kid who doxxed the teacher have previously doxxed a chem teacher and another teacher as well as some kids that he didn't like but he never went as far as to file a false police report on any of them.
In conclusion, he's suspended as well as this girl who gave him the house address to the APUSH teacher. His parents are sending him back to his home country once summer starts. And the APUSH teacher is suing the kid. Lowkey the doxxer doesn't care though, I think he gave up on school which is interesting for someone who's in a lot of clubs as an officer and takes honours classes.
Anyway I just wanted to share this. AP exams and finals is a b, I wish you all good luck. My school's been too boring this year and now we be joking everytime with the kids name with the recent drama.
Edit: the reason why he doxxed the teacher was because the teacher gave him a bad grade for a couple assignments and DBQ's (You gotta realise that school isn't about the grades, it's about learning and the US education system and many other education systems are failing that grasp that concept, they're setting us up for failure. You can't go anywhere in life if your mindset is like that.)

2024.05.05 23:27 BeshoG Egyptian Identity Rant

People, especially Americans are so incredibly ignorant regarding their knowledge of Africa!! I got called “Anti-Black” because I told someone that Ancient Egypt wasnt an only-black civilisation, which is factually proven. Im so tired of being rejected of my Egyptian identity by someone who probably cant point out where Egypt even is on the map. Racism towards Egyptians is so casual because people wanna be us so bad, time and time again I get called an Arab invader by an American (black AND white) when in general they dont even know what an Arab is either. You cannot be Arab by blood, Arab is a term used to identify muslim countries that use Arabic as an official language. I swear these insecure freaks deny people of their cultures and they dont realise that they have their own rich history they can cling to, and when they deny a country that consists of 100mil+ people of a history and culture thats rightfully theirs, do they not realise how incredibly offensive that is? Man… come back to me when you have an INCH of Egyptian in your DNA. Edit: Lemme address a few things. First of all, I mentioned America because I haven’t experienced this stuff outside of it, therefore I cannot speak on it. Second of all, I acknowledge the racism in Egypt, the country is very racist and I do not appreciate that, but that is not an open door to be racist back. The point of this post is that I, as an African, am not a fan of this generalisation regarding my country which is in Africa. If you wanna talk about Egypts bigotry, im very willing and eager to talk about how much I dislike it, but right now, that is not the point of this post and it shouldn’t be turned around on us because I wanna discuss MY experience. Thank You for discussing with me 🙏

2024.05.05 23:00 Downtown_Summer5733 The drinking age being 21 in the USA is a great and should be worldwide

I'm someone not from the US, and live in a culture where the drinking age is 18, and a lot of our social events are guided by alcohol. Pretty much every time you go out you're drinking, if not getting black out drunk, it's just what you do. It's a hard habit to quit as a social circle, as everyone's pretty much starting out at 15/16 too, so we're all functioning alcoholics in a way.
I really dig the concept of discouraging drinking for younger people. I know I maybe sound like a dweeb but the damage it can do is actually so bad, in countless ways. Again, I'm not from the US so I'm not really sure how much the ban works (you're probably getting drinks somewhere), but I gotta say teaching young adults how to have fun without a substance in their peak brain development years is actually an awesome incentive, and maybe one of the #1 things America is doing right.
Edit: Lot of people mentioning that younger Americans are still drinking despite the drinking age being 21, which is something I addressed initially. It's still gonna happen to matter what age you put it I agree, but a ban is still an incentive and limiting kids access to alcohol when they're young is cool. It's the same concept as not having the drinking age be 16 for example, as I think the age between 18 - 21 is still a peak time of development years.

2024.05.05 22:59 Keat2Hart My DAT Advice

My DAT Advice
What’s up guys! I recently took my DAT and I’m so relieved to finally have it over with after months of studying. Throughout my preparation I would constantly come on sites like this and see how others were doing; not only to answer some of my questions, but also give myself some confidence by seeing that others were succeeding. I HIGHLY recommend investing into your peers that have been through this and know all the tips and tricks. That was the best thing that helped me set a schedule for the long and exciting journey ahead. So, with that being said, here’s what I believe helped me succeed the most:

PAT: 23
QR: 21
RC: 18
BIO: 21
GC: 24
OC: 26
TS: 23
AA: 22

~Background~
It’s important to mention that I am currently in my junior year of undergrad and accomplished this while taking 16 credit hours each semester. I currently hold a 3.97 GPA while also being involved in multiple organizations around campus.

~Study Plan~
Alright let’s get into my process of studying and the breakdown. Over the summer preceding my junior year I began to investigate potential studying material. DATBOOSTER was what I went with, and I am so happy with that decision. Important to note that I bought the six-month plan over the 4th of July because they were having a big sale on their website (Don’t worry, you can purchase your membership and then put it on hold until you are ready to start it – I started mine mid-October). So, take advantage of that if you can! I decided to do the six-month plan because I am not someone who likes to cram my studying. I also knew that I would be studying for the DAT while also being a full-time student, so the six-month plan just made the most sense to me. It’s also very important to be honest with yourself throughout this whole process. It provides no benefit to be overconfident in yourself in one section just because you’re scared to admit that you’re not that good at general chemistry or whatever it may be. And never compare yourself to others! I know that’s kind of what this whole process is, but don’t let that discourage you. Just do the best that you can do and leave no doubt in your mind that you could have prepared any harder. For myself, I felt like my biology background was pretty poor. So, I decided that starting on September 1st I was going to start preparing. I did this by utilizing the NINJA NERD website and watching a ton of his videos. If you haven’t heard of him, he goes into great detail with awesome visuals and explanations. You can go to the topics tab on his website and go to town on so many different topics regarding anatomy and physiology of different systems and what have you. In any spare time I had, that is how I started my prep from the beginning of September to mid-October when I started my DATBOOSTER membership. Important to note that during that time I would watch the videos, while also taking notes (totally a preference) and then would review some of those notes whenever I had extra time. Honestly though, in the beginning it’s like you’re drinking through a fire hydrant. You’re watching and taking notes over way more content than you’re really studying. The studying and practice will come later. And that’s how I started my DATBOOSTER prep as well. From mid-October to mid-January, I was watching all the DATBOOSTER videos and taking notes over every section. And like I said before, there wasn’t much time to review what I was watching. At this point it’s mostly just consuming as much information as you can. Important to note that there were definitely certain sections that I spent more time on than others because it wasn’t really clicking right away. That’s ok! Remember that you want to be able to at least understand or remember this information for when you do begin reviewing and doing practice problems. Once I had finished all the DATBOOSTER videos I began to go back and review notes. This was a crucial step for me! For about the next month I read through my notes over everything I had just reviewed in order to make sure it was still fresh, while also revisiting certain sections that I struggled with more than others. I also started to do some practice problems here. Mostly pat, gen chem, organic, and qr, but a little bio as well. Again, it’s completely ok to spend a little more time on certain topics if you don’t get it. But remember that you should be spending a pretty even amount of time across all sections (specifically in the total sciences). In the midst of this review (around the second weekend of February) I also began taking a full-length practice DAT every Saturday, leading up to my real exam on April 20. This was the most beneficial part of my studying program for me! It relieved so much stress and prepared me better for what I would see on the actual testing day. DATBOOSTER provides you with 10 full-length practice exams and they’re fantastic. I took the first 5, then took spring break weekend off, and then the last 5, which lead up to the weekend right before the real DAT. By the beginning of March, I started hammering the practice problems for all sections. I would say that I got most of my reading practice from the full-length exams, and same with the PAT questions after I got the hang of it (it took a couple weeks). My schedule from then on would change somewhat based on what I had due each week for my classes, but for the most part I would stick to the same schedule. Monday afternoons and night would mostly be for biology. Tuesday, I had labs all day so at night I would do some bio and gen chem. Wednesday, I also had labs all day so at night I focused on gen chem. Thursday, I didn’t have class so I would usually catch up on sleep, laundry, and other stuff in the mornings and then would do bio, gen chem, and organic all afternoon and night. Fridays I focused on qr, and would maybe do a practice reading passage. Saturday I would get up, drive to campus and find an empty room in the health science or engineering buildings, lock the door and start my full-length practice exam usually by 9:30 am. I would then take a good break after, before doing homework and reviewing my exam that night. Sundays would kind of just be a whatever I needed to get done kind of day. So, I did that for about 11 weeks straight. That was the biggest grind of the whole process. That’s where the stress for me really started to set in, so in order to combat against that, I studied so much I didn’t have time to think about it. As you’ve heard before there are countless ways that you may decide to study and that’s awesome - everyone learns differently. I had friends that did the study in a month plan and did just fine on the actual exam. So, figure out what works for you and stick to that! The worst thing you can do is get overwhelmed and switch something up or put it off because it’s scary to think about at the moment. I got overwhelmed plenty of times but understand that these dental schools know how hard this exam is. They want to see how mentally tough you are and if you can handle hard material under pressure. Keep in mind that there are thousands of other students going through it with you. Trust yourself, you got this!

~My Experience on Testing Day~
Make sure you’re fully aware of everything that is expected of you on testing day. You don’t want there to be any surprises. I called the testing center I went to and asked questions that I had, and they were super helpful over the phone and in person. There’s also a bunch of different ways you can approach the week leading up to the DAT. I decided that the best thing for me was to keep the same schedule that I had been using the last 10 or so weeks. Make sure you’re not cramming this last week. Not only is that not smart, but it will also just overwhelm you even more. Obviously sleeping the night before is so important, but don’t stress if you can’t fall asleep. Not only is that normal, but you’ll have so much adrenaline flowing on testing day that it will cancel out your drowsiness. I woke up about an hour and half before I had to leave and ate a good breakfast and showered. Once I got there I had to wait over an hour, but that was ok because I was able to adapt to the environment which calmed some nerves for me. And then I took the exam. It went great and I honestly felt somewhat relaxed throughout the whole exam. I took the thirty-minute break in the middle where I ate a snack, went to the bathroom, and studied some qr equations. I went back in about 8 minutes early and just sat and waited for my nerves to settle before I attacked the second half of the exam. And then after I hit submit, it was like the greatest weight ever was lifted off of my shoulders because I could finally say that it had all paid off! After you submit the last qr question you take a quick little survey on your testing experience and then your score pops up on the screen.

~What Helped Me the Most (along with some of my tricks)~
First off, I highly recommend DATBOOSTER as a study tool for the DAT. Without a doubt it did a fantastic job of preparing me for testing day. I already explained the steps of how I studied, but here I want to go more into what really worked and some tricks I used along the way. Starting with bio, I am not saying I recommend it, but I didn’t study the ecology, or evolution sections at all. There were so many questions for both those sections, and I didn’t enjoy studying that stuff like I did the other sections, so I put all my time into all the other sections. Obviously, your systems and functions topic is going to be well represented in the questions, but embryo, repro, and genetics were other topics that I specifically remember being highly tested over. For gen chem I really just looked over everything. I would say everything is well represented on the real exam. My advice is to obviously know all the equations, but also understand that you’re given a periodic table that also contains some info on it such as Avogadro’s number and other similar type stuff. But check that out and use it to your advantage! Organic was a little unique in my scenario. I was currently taking organic I in the fall and organic II in the spring semester so I really just studied for my lecture and that was good enough to carry over to the DAT. Obviously I would see stuff I hadn’t learned in lecture yet on practice exams, but by the time I took the real DAT I was pretty much through 2 full semesters. I still used the practice problems on booster to review though. For the PAT portion I hammered the practice problems during my “study” phase of my plan, and then after taking full-length tests I just got the hang of it and didn’t review much outside of that anymore. Sometimes if I was struggling to stay focused while doing bio or qr or something, I would do some PAT for “fun” to give my mind a little break while also being productive. I attacked this section a little differently on my practice exams though. For me, the keyhole section was the hardest. Since that was the case (and since it was the first 15 questions of the PAT section) I would skip to question 16 once I entered the PAT section and go through the rest, before returning to the keyhole portion with whatever time I had left. This was a huge breakthrough for me, which led to going from scoring around a 20 and having to guess on the last 5 because of time, to scoring a 22-25 and having 3+ minutes to spare at the end. Finding those little tricks can be huge especially if time is an issue for you. For the reading comprehension portion, I sort of used the skim technique with a little bit of my own twist. I would go through the passage one paragraph at a time and highlight the first couple words, so I knew the gist to the paragraph. I would skim the paragraph very lightly, usually only highlighting if I saw a list of terms, and then I would highlight the last sentence because for whatever reason it would usually hold important information. This is a section that you kind of just get the hang of. Lastly, the qr section was always a struggle for me with time. I think the best advice I can give is that if you read the question, and if you’re not sure, guess and move on. There were always quite a few easy ones in this section so make sure you get those. They’re all worth the same points!

~The DAT Compared to Full-Length Practice Exams~
DATBOOSTER did a great job of making a representative software that prepares you well, but also pushes you to know more. There were plenty of useful tools that I didn’t even have time to use much because I liked other ones so much. My favorite was that in the practice problems, you could mark any question that you wanted to, from any section, and then it would go to a different location where you could review all the questions you had marked from each separate section. You could then go through and answer them and rank them based on whether you knew it, were reviewing it, or didn’t know it. This was a great tool for me that I used to repetitively see questions that I struggled with and helped me learn them quicker. The full-length practice exams, like I’ve mentioned before, were so helpful in preparing me for the real exam. After taking 10 of them, you also somewhat know what score you can expect come testing day. It’s also SO important to understand that this study plan is a process. Nothing happens overnight, and you 100% get out what you put in. I heard from so many professors that I shouldn’t worry because I’m putting in the work so it will pay off. It’s honestly crazy how it works but it definitely does. So now let’s look at some of my scores early on and compare them to my actual test. Right off the bat, after watching countless videos and filling up 4 notebooks full of notes, with little review mind you, I scored a 15 AA on my first practice exam. Talk about discouraging. From then on, I would go up a little each week and then stay steady for a bit and then repeat that cycle throughout the 10-week period. I wasn’t able to get my bio grade up above a 15 until I started hammering practice problems. Reading comp and qr slowly rose. PAT was up to about a 23 every week after the third practice exam, and gen chem and organic both took some time but eventually went up as well. By the end, the highest scores I had gotten in each category were: PAT: 25, QR: 22, RC: 24, Bio: 19, GC: 20, OC: 22, and AA: 21. It took me all 10 practice exams to accumulate all those scores, with just about none of them ever happening in the same week. But it was all part of the process. As you can see from my actual scores, lots of those went up and some stayed about the same. To start out, I almost felt over prepared after taking the science portion when taking the actual DAT. I flew through it and still had 20 minutes to spare. On the PAT I had about 6 minutes to spare after completing all the questions. The reading section was a mentally challenging section for me on testing day. This part of the DAT was not exactly as I had practiced on DATBOOSTER… but there’s an explanation. On the booster prep the reading portion was very easy to manipulate – highlight and scroll through the reading. On testing day, the prometric reading section was so difficult to manipulate! Everything seemed so delayed, it was super touchy when I wanted to highlight parts, and it wouldn’t hold my spot in the passage when I would go to the next question (something you might understand after taking a practice exam). So really the only reason this portion was more difficult was because DATBOOSTER made their software really nice, and it was much more efficient than the prometric exam. Not that big of a deal, just something that really threw me off in the middle of the exam and I wasn’t expecting it. So, keep that in mind and you’ll be fine! The quantitative reasoning portion was the exact same as every practice exam. Funny to note though that the real DAT was the first time I was able to fully complete this section without just guessing due to time at the end.

~Parting Words of Wisdom~
Like Stated earlier, I only used Ninja Nerd to touch up on some biology stuff before using DATBOOSTER as my main source of studying. My plan was hard to carry out in the beginning, but after getting the hang of it and making it a priority daily, it just became a routine. I would definitely not consider myself to be crazy smart, I would say I’m driven. This last 7 or so months was an absolute grind that I honestly don’t miss at all. But I accomplished my goal, and I grew so much as a student and in my mental strength. 12-hour study sessions are possible, studying for the DAT while taking classes is possible, and crushing the DAT is possible! Remember that the DAT is only part of what helps you get into dental school. There are so many other pieces that make you a strong candidate. Your life will seem to revolve around your study plan but remember that breaks and time away from studying is crucial. You got this. Trust yourself and try to enjoy the process. Keep your end goal in mind.

2024.05.05 22:43 seffay-feff-seffahi Did Stalin disband the Comintern for other reasons beyond appearing the Allies in WWII?

I'm currently reading William Taubman's biography of Khrushchev, and it's striking how much less control the CPSU had over the parties in the other ML states at the time compared to pre-WWII Stalin. In general, it seems like the end of international party discipline enforced by the Comintern made it significantly more difficult to maintain ideological alignment with Soviet allies, even before Stalin's death.
The Comintern was also ideologically important within the Marxist-Leninist tradition. It was supposed to be the modern continuation of the First International, after all, and a replacement for the revisionist Second International. It also drove the Leninist split within socialist parties in the immediate aftermath of WWI, such as the split of the American Socialist Party, with strict conditions for compliance being imposed by Lenin on the new member parties around the world. It was used later by Stalin to purge these parties of less favored elements, such as Jay Lovestone in the American party.
The two main explanations I've read are this was done to 1) buy goodwill and military assistance from the West, and 2) bring Soviet foreign policy in line with the "socialism in one country" and multiple paths to socialism theories. Plus, central control could still be exercised in some ways by the Cominform.
However, this forfeiture of foreign party control seems like a big mistake in retrospect, as the various Marxist-Leninist states began to pull away from the USSR as the century progressed, with the powerful lever of Comintern-enforced party discipline being replaced with more traditional geopolitical sticks and carrots. By the end of the '80s, Yugoslavia, Romania, Albania, North Korea, as well as China and Vietnam had distanced themselves from the Soviets, not to mention the efforts of the Hungarian and Czech parties in the mid-century. It also seems odd that Stalin would give this power up; most of Stalin's political career involved gaining more and more power, rarely forfeiting power.
So are those two explanations for the dissolution of the Comintern sufficient, or were there other factors, like mismanagement, corruption, factionalism, etc.? Also, is it fair to view this as a mistake, or was the devolution of party discipline to the national parties bound to happen either way?
EDIT: Damn autocorrect. That should be "appeasing" in the title, not "appearing."

2024.05.05 22:37 Ambitious_Meeting206 DAT Breakdown using DATBooster

DAT Breakdown using DATBooster
DAT Breakdown:
I just took my DAT last month and I wanted to share my experience in hopes of it helping someone.
Sources: DATBooster only
Timeline: I started studying the last week of January up until my exam date on April 6th. The first 2 months I was only studying a 3-4 days a week since I was working the other days. The 3 weeks leading up to my exam I took time off work and was studying every day.
Background: Graduated in December of 2023 with a GPA of 3.60 with a nutrition food science major with a minor in biology. I felt pretty strong with general chemistry but orgo and bio were the subjects I struggled with most in undergrad and the main reason I kept pushing taking the test off.
PAT-19: I did PAT practice questions only on the days that I worked so that my days off I could focus on studying the sciences. From the practice questions I noticed the hole punching, cube counting, and angle ranking were my strongest areas so on test day I skipped straight to these. This helped me not waste time on the other questions that I always struggled with. This was the only section that I scored lower than I did on my practice tests on booster (booster predicted a 22 for me on PAT).
BIO-19: I was very intimidated by the bio section because of the large amount of info it covers and the fact that I never did well in my big bio courses in undergrad. I started by watching the videos and doing all of the practice questions in the order they were listed on the study guide. This helped me get an understanding of everything without throwing too much information my way. My biggest regret is not studying with flashcards as well as studying some topics too deep in detail as the questions I saw on my test were very broad.
GC-21: I watched all of the videos and did all of the practice questions while memorizing the equations and common questions. Doing a lot of practice was the biggest thing that prepared me for this section.
OC-20: This section was my biggest worry since I took both orgo classes in undergrad during covid and didn’t do well in either one. I started off by reading the notes provided by booster but I could tell I wasn’t engaging myself with the material so I switched to watching the videos. The videos and practice questions helped a lot in understanding and memorizing the different reactions and properties.
QR-27: I didn’t watch any of the videos for this sections because I have always been good at math since I was a kid and didn’t feel the need to spend time on it. I did practice questions the same days I worked on PAT after work to still keep everything fresh in my head. On test day I also marked any questions I was unsure about to avoid wasting time on them.
RC-26: Similar to QR, this was another a section I’ve been naturally good at since I love reading in my free time. I read the notes on different methods and I used a mix of all but mostly relied on the search and destroy method. I would first read as much of the article as I could in a 4 minutes and highlight keywords. After that I would start going through the questions and use the search and destroy for the rest of the passage. The practice tests on booster helped prepare me a lot since they were a lot more challenging than the passages on my real test.
The practice tests on booster really helped me get an understanding of what the questions would be like as well as how I was doing with time management too. I ended up scoring 2-3 points higher on each section (except pat) compared to what I was scoring on the practice tests.
If anyone has any other questions or anything just let me know and I’ll message you!

MSI GE77HX - CPU and GPU not going over 43 °C
Edit: SOLVED -> The issue was solved by doing a battery reset. For those who dont know, a battery reset is performed by Turning off the machine, disconnecting the charger from the computer, then holding the power button for 35 seconds (up to this point, you can verify if all was done correctly by pressing the power button once. If the machine doesn't turn on, then the battery reset was a success) and finally connecting the charger and turning on the machine. (At least that's how its done for this model, other models might require other steps).
I will elaborate here but the title pretty much states the issue.
  • i7-12800HX 12th
  • RTX 3080 Ti
  • 32GB RAM
  • SSD
I've been playing games on this laptop for a long while flawlessly, but last week i tried installing Destiny 2 from the Xbox store. i played for a while but 1 day i forgot to connect my charger. When the battery reached 20% it entered battery saver mode, so it all lagged as shit. i quickly connected the charger (as its not the first time this happens in other games, and connecting it solves the issue) but performance stayed low, i thought it had something to do with the game and i forced closed it (i couldnt propperly close it as i was at 5fps). A few errors from easy anticheat came up and i couldnt launch destiny 2 again due to anticheat issues (failed install or something like that).
From here on everything goes to shit, i tried uninstalling it and reinstalling through steam, as there is cross save and stuff, thought that would do the trick, but after reinstalling, easy anticheat issues persisted. I got tired and jumped to Warzone and FPS where on the floor.
After a few tries to fix it i thought some configuration had been messed up and i better factory reset the computer. (All my files are backed up so really it didnt mean much truble, other than 1 day lost).
This brings me to now. After the reset i installed steam and linked it with my old library (where warzone is). Launched the game and FPS on the floor again, looked into the MSI Center and it said that both GPU and CPU wherent even over 40% usage, and never whent even close to 50 °C. I played around with windows power plan (set to high performance), MSI Gaming mode, MSI Performance User Scenrario, but no success. This felt weird because, althought i knew these features, i dont remember messing with them before to get the laptop to run as it did.
There seemed to also be an issue on warzon related to pre-loading shaders so i thought that must be it, but i launched another game (Dark and Darker) that i played a ton before, and isnt that resource intensive (but still took my CPU and GPU to 80 °C before, maybe due to high FPS limit) and i had very low FPS again, unplayable. CPU and GPU stayed at 40-43 °C, under 50% load.
i dont have an actual meassure of FPS, but man, i played flawlessly and now it feels like 2FPS or something, not really exagerating (maybe 10? idk, i mean its really noticeable).
Any idea what could this be? or what setting should i be turning on or off to fix this? im really confused tbh, i dont think (or want) this is a "Change your laptop" kind of issue, since the performance is there, im just not using it (considering the low temps and the low workload).
Thanks in advance for any insight on this! im attaching a picture taking while on the firing range of Warzone of my MSI Center hardware monitoring and the Task manager.
