2024.05.19 06:42 nishcraft99 How would you structure this itinerary for a second trip to Japan? (First time Solo) Thanks!

Hello 👋🏼
I've booked some last minute flights to Japan from May 24 to June 17th 2024. I'd love some feedback on my barebones itinerary.
Qs: - I'm unclear if I'm doing too much/am ambitious given the location each of these cities - Would you add any fun cities, remove any or recommend staying longer in any of the listed cities?
Context: It's my first time Solo. I'm a 29M that likes nature, sightseeing, appreciate the city life too and occasional socializing! I won't have car, train and must will be my only mode of transportation. I went to Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Hakone and Hiroshima last trip and did most of the tourist attractions and I'm looking to visit some new quieteunique places.
Here's my itinerary in the sequence I'm visiting these cities: - Tokyo x4 nights (Land and stay here from Thursday-Sunday)) - Sendai x2 nights I might do a few days trips from here. I'm not sure what to do frankly, but it seems to be on the way to Aomoro which seemed to be popular on reddit! (Worth it?) - Aomori x2 nights (Worth it?) - Tokyo x10 nights (Fixed plans as I'm staying with friends) - Fukuoka x2 (Worth it?) - Kagoshima x2 Worth it?) - Tokyo x2
I'd love to hear your thoughts on any cities you enjoyed. Eg. I heard some positive things about doing the Shimanami Kaido ride, but it might take some planning and I don't know how where to fit that in.
Thanks 🙏🏼

Kikyo has so many beautiful spells
Little has been revealed about Kikyo's childhood, aside from the fact she was born in Japan during the Feudal Era. Her parents died sometime after her younger sister Kaede was born. Kikyo had to raise Kaede in her youth, and she decided to pursue an occupational role as a priestess and protected people in the village. Kikyo even didn’t have a master to train her, she learned these spells and archery by herself. Apart from the controversial events fifty years later , what a good girl she is!

2024.05.19 05:37 George_the_Root_Man The Homeless Sorcerer, Yamada Taro

The Homeless Sorcerer, Yamada Taro
There is a man who resides all throughout Japan. He goes by many names. The Wandering Sorcerer, The Nomadic Sorcerer, The King of the Wanderers, The Jujutsu Hermit Sage but the most common moniker he goes by is the Homeless Sorcerer, Yamada Taro. He used to be an incredibly powerful, influential and rich man but he lost all of his wealth to curses and decided to get revenge. Training his cursed techniques he soon realized that, although is control over cursed energy is great, he does not have an innate cursed technique. So he made up for it by inventing a new martial art called the Underhanded Techniques. Honing his strength and killing curses for years until he finally attracted the attention of the Sorcerer Killer, Toji Fushiguro. Their battle was long and hard fought and Yamada even used his animalistic techniques. But at the end of the battle Yamada was left heavily wounded and Toji was left unscathed. So Yamada used his ultimate technique. GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE.
Yamada went into hiding. Most people thought he died. Until after the shibuya incident where jujutsu sorcerers noted the appearance of a muscular homeless looking guy beating the shit out of curses in the no man’s land known as shibuya. Some people even said they saw Yamada with a second, shorter, sickly looking man with a large contraption on his back and a flame thrower looking apparatus.
Sometimes people even say they hear whistling, singing, and even laughing coming from the subway tunnels.
Special Trait: People who have fought Yamada and survived noted that his cursed energy feels like course grit sandpaper.

2024.05.19 05:20 NoobyImpulse China Trip Report: March 2024 [Suzhou Amusement Land Forest World, Joyland, China Dinosaurs Park, Happy Valley, Etc.]

China Trip Report: March 2024 [Suzhou Amusement Land Forest World, Joyland, China Dinosaurs Park, Happy Valley, Etc.]
During the end of March/ early April my gf and I went on a 3 week coaster trip throughout China, Japan, and South Korea. I wanted to make this report about China since it's pretty difficult to plan a trip to China with the lack of information available.
Planning started last year in September and we used coast2coaster to map out our trip, then we tried to find any information about the parks we picked which ended up not being much. The Coaster Kings had some great blog posts, and we found a couple YouTube videos from ATLsloan which ended up being super helpful.
I also digged through reddit and reached out to some very helpful Redditors that gave me advice! Thanks u/MrBrightside711 and u/Noxegon
We visited:
  • Hong Kong Disneyland
  • Ocean Park
  • Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park
  • Oriental Pearl Tower
  • Suzhou Amusement Land Forest World
  • Joyland
  • China Dinosaurs Park
  • Shanghai Disneyland
  • Happy Valley Shanghai
  • Universal Beijing
  • Happy Valley Beijing
The Hong Kong portion of our China trip was super simple. Uber existed and there are no internet complications. I do recommend getting an octopus card and loading it with money, you are able to put it directly on your iphone and you will use it for trains, taxis, checking out of stores, it was even accepted in Disney!

Hong Kong Disneyland:

We flew into Hong Kong from Osaka and landed about 2am. We got a hotel right in the airport, and woke up at 8am to uber over to Disneyland, check into our hotel at the explorers lodge, and rope drop at 10:30am. After getting to the park we realized rope drop wasn't needed.. this park was DEAD. We went right to Mystic Manor and was one of 6 people in the pre-show section. (amazing ride but not a coaster)
Then we went over to Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars. This instantly became my favorite Disney rollercoaster. (at this point we had been to all Disney parks except Shanghai, which only has clones) The fakeout lift, and the launch section were great.
The new Frozen area of the park really was beautiful, and made the visit that much more worth it. Their version of Frozen ever after is a bit more modern, but much the same of the Orlando version. Wandering Oaken's Sliding Sleighs is great to look at, but not that great to ride. It's very short and probably great as a child's first coaster.
Not much to say about RC & Hyperspace Mountain. If you have ridden any of their counter parts, you have already experienced these as well.
Wandering Oakens Sliding Sleighs
Big Grizzly

Ocean Park

This park has 2 areas, the lower entrance area which has a ton of shops, smaller rides, and a aquarium. The upper area on top of the mountain which required a chairlift ride up is home to the larger thrill rides. While the bottom portion still seems fine, the upper portion has about half of it closed including the 2 SBNO coasters still sitting there.
However, their 2 operating coasters were both open. Hair Raiser was a great B&M, and the setting and usage of the terrain only amplifies it. Arctic Blast isn't much to write home about, but it was enjoyable and they sent us around the track multiple times.

Mainland China

Once you hit mainland China everything becomes so much more difficult. Thankfully we did plenty of research in advance and downloaded DiDi (taxi app) WeChat, and Alipay (Payment apps) You also need to verify yourself with your passport in these apps DO IT BEFORE you get to China unless you want problems. The language barrier exists much more here than any other country I have visited, Google Translate was needed for EVERY conversation. If you are planning a trip here make sure you download the Chinese Simplified translations in google translate incase your internet gets spotty (it will.)
Call your cell provider to ensure you will have working service in China, it prevents the need for a VPN while out and about.. however still download a VPN for when you are on wifi as the great chinese firewall blocks EVERYTHING. We used LetsVPN and it worked amazingly the whole time in the mainland.
Most places will not want to take your cash. Before you leave make sure that you have a credit card added to both alipay and wechat. There is still a chance your apps wont work! Your hotel can take cash and send you the money on either alipay or wechat. When taking a taxi if your DiDi app isnt working, there is a mini DiDi app in alipay that works as well!

Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park

This park is where all my fears about my trip came true immediately. When you go to parks in China there is absolutely no way to know if coasters will be open or closed, even if you can find a website with posting they are probably not accurate.
We landed in Shanghai at 10:30 am and immediately got a taxi to drop our bags off at the hotel, and they waited for us to take us to Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park. As we arrived we saw Steel Dolphin cycling and I thought to myself how great it was that we would be starting this portion off strong. As we got to the steel dolphin entrance it was blocked off with an employee explaining via google translate that the ride failed a inspection earlier in the month and they were only testing to regain its certification. I asked if there would open anytime in the next week, they said no. We then went over to Family Coaster which was CLOSED. We then decided we would try to salvage the day and ride a couple other rides.. we couldn't find a single one that was open.
Our taxi driver was still outside when we left 30 minutes after he dropped us off and he asked why we were leaving so early. We explained the situation and he took us to guest services and complained for us without us asking for that. They offered us the ability to view a sea lion show which took place in 2 hours which we declined. I highly recommend skipping this park, it was a MESS.
An empty Steel Dolphin train RIP

Oriental Pearl Tower

Immediately upon the horrors of the last park, our taxi driver took us over to The Bund. While we were exploring there we figured out there was a coaster in the Pearl Tower so we headed on over. To get to the coaster you have to go to the top of the tower first, which is similar to every other observation tower experience in the world. Very nice views of the city though.
VR Rollercoaster is a junior coaster which probably isn't worth going out of your way for, but it may of been my favorite VR coaster I have done as it didn't make me sick!
Loading platform for VR Rollercoaster

Suzhou Amusement Land Forest World

On this day we attempted (and succeeded) to visit 3 theme parks in one day. There were too many parks in the Shanghai area I didn't want to miss so we had to hustle all day. For this to work I hired a private Taxi Driver to follow us all day and wait on us at the parks so we didn't have to figure out how to maneuver from park to park.
When we arrived at Suzhou Amusement Land Forest World we were met with another DISASTER.. the sign in front of the park showed that my #1 bucket list China coaster Beyond The Cloud would be closed. Hopeful we still bought tickets and entered the park because we saw the tilt coaster testing.
We ran immediately over to Broken Rail Roller Coaster and got front row on the first train of the day. This was my first Tilt Coaster and man was it awesome! Jinma rides while they may be a copycat company they did a great job on this. It was smooth, thrilling, and could compare to any other big coaster company creation.
While walking over to Beyond the Cloud, we found Roller Coaster a coaster which wasn't on coaster count or RCDB! It was a kids ride but we had to ride it since it was undocumented! Its a Jinma kiddie coaster and could compare to the junior Vekomas you can find in many places in the USA. We also got the ride published on RCDB! We skipped the spinning mouse because we couldn't find it and we were in a rush to get to our next park.
When we did arrive at Beyond the Cloud we were met with another heartbreak as it has a sign explaining it was closed for the day. I was pissed and desperate to ride this coaster so I didn't give up. The day we flew out we woke up at 7 am and risked missing our flight for another shot at riding. When we got there it was drizzling and every ride was closed.. except Beyond the Cloud! I believe we were the only 2 people in the park this 2nd go around and were able to ride 5 times by ourselves before we moved on and headed to the airport. They made us wait 5 mins each ride to see if other riders would show up (they didn't.) It was 100% worth the effort, this was my favorite coaster in China, and my #2 Mack overall behind RtH.
Beyond The Cloud just for us! They never opened any of the back restraints so we had to sit in the front every ride.
Big boi
The Jinma Tilt Coaster

Joyland

After about a hour 1/2 in Suzhou Forest we got back to our taxi and darted for Joyland! Upon arrival we went through the knockoff Dr Seuss area on our way to Starry Sky Ripper my #1 bucket list flyer behind flying dino which we rode a few days prior. I think Sky Ripper edges out my top B&M flyer just over Flying dino. Its smooth, thrilling and most importantly it doesn't have the immense pain pretzel loops bring me.
To our surprise all of the coasters here were open! We ended up going to Dragon Roaring Heaven next. There was a school trip and they all seemed to be waiting to just ride this ride, so it took about 30 minutes to get on. This mine train coaster was decent, and is comparable to some of the great mine trains in the USA, but the theming here makes it a slight step above the rest.
Next was Clouds of Fairyland which seemed to be in a state of despair. The front car of the train was closed, and they had these makeshift restraints behind your head that they made you hold for the duration of the ride which was uncomfortable. The ride itself was okay, I'd like to ride another one that doesn't have the weird behind the head nonsense.

Mine Train Theming

China Dinosaurs Park

We got to China Dinosaurs Park around 3pm the park closed at 5pm, and stopped letting guests in at 4. We jogged straight to Dinoconda to ensure we got a ride in, and to our surprise it was a WALK ON! As with the other 4d coasters it was very intense, but it was the smoothest by far. I would put it behind Eej as you can't beat that intensity.
Next we went in circles trying to find Dinosaur Mountain it took us about 20-30 mins to actually find it hidden in the mountain side but it was a cool indoor Zamperla motocoaster. The theming was cheesy but it was all still great fun.
Super Roller Coaster went down and stayed closed until park closure.
Dinoconda

Shanghai Disneyland

This is a great Disney park! Pirates and Zootopia made this visit worth it alone. The Pirates here is the best version of the ride, and I'm glad i went in blind. I wasn't expecting what I experienced at all. The zootopia area was really well done and I hope we get some version of it in the US.
All 3 coasters here are clones of coasters I've ridden at other Disney Parks so I'm not going to go into detail about them. They are great, ride them if you get the chance.
Zootopia Ride
Tron but the not Florida one

Happy Valley Shanghai

Unfortunately when we woke up we realized the forecast was rainy and had high winds but we decided to attempt to go get some credits anyway. We knew that it would probably not work out but yolo.
We were greeted with 4 out of 7 coasters closed including Diving Coaster, Mine Train, Wooden Coaster, and Coastal Ant.
We headed straight for Mega-Lite which was good fun, we had ridden its clone Piraten in Denmark back in June of 2023 so we knew what to expect. Still a enjoyable small coaster that packs a punch. Truly is a mini I-305
Next was Crazy Elves which is your basic spinning mouse. Then we got a ride on Family Inverted Coaster which wasn't anything crazy but was fun and will be perfect in BGT as a step-up coaster.

Universal Studios Beijing

After a hectic morning in Shanghai trying to get a ride on Beyond the Cloud we flew to Beijing! We got there late at night and checked into our hotel right outside Universal.
We bought the "Set of all Express Passes" which was good for all the major rides. This ended up being worth it is the park got more and more crowded as the day went on. Upon entering the park we heard an announcement that all rides are open but there is inclement weather which may close outdoor attractions so we headed right to Decepticoaster. Decepticoaster is everything the Hulk retracking should of been. The coaster is glass smooth, the jank is gone, and made for a much better ride experience. Personally, I love Hulk as its at one of my home parks here in Orlando but I find myself riding it less and less due to how I feel after riding.. I didn't have this issue here.
Next we took a wrong turn trying to get to the Jurassic area and ended up going through Kung Fu Panda's area which was really cool, and its boat ride was worth riding once. This path put us in a circle which had us ending up in Harry Potter land so the next coaster was Flight of Hippogriff. This was the same as all its counter parts, nothing special here. We skipped the other rides in this land as we have been to every other universal park (other than Singapore) and didn't need to experience them again.
We finally found the Jurassic area and got on Jurassic Flyers which was not what I expected. I was assuming it would be interactive similar to Arthur at Europa Park, it wasn't. Just did a loop around the mountain and got some great views. While in the area we did arguably the best dark ride in the world Jurassic World Adventure. That ride is INSANE.. nothing we have in the US compares to it.
On our way out we hit Loop-Dee-Doop-Dee which I believe is the only Jinma at a major park? It's a basic family coaster, and worth the credit if you can get on with no line.
Better Hulk
Jurassic Flyers

Happy Valley Beijing

The last park of our trip before we spent our last few days sightseeing! We arrived at opening to a very large crowd (the biggest of the trip.) All of coasters had staggered openings so we tried to strategically plan it out to be at the opening of each one.. which didn't work out at all. Extreme Rusher was closed all day and has been closed for a while due to its sister coaster rolling back and crashing into another train in the station.
We headed to Crystal Wing first for its 10:30 opening. We weren't the only ones with this idea as there was already a decent line formed. We waited bout 30 mins to get on missing the 11am opening for our next coaster. This is a clone of Superman but with some really cool terrain and theming. Worth the ride.
Golden Wings over the Snowfield was stop #2. I'm not a fan of SLC's but this didn't ride like one. It wasn't smooth, but it wasn't painful either. It also has a different layout from the SLC's all over the US which was cool.
Next we went over to Flight of the Himalayan Eagle Music Roller Coaster which had a 11:30am scheduled opening which we missed by 30 mins. The line took about a hour, and we noticed there was a fastpass system that we couldn't figure out because of the language barrier. I used google translate on the signs at the entrance to no luck. The ride is a great mini hyper coaster that blasts music as you ride. Easily the best coaster in the park.
We walked past Family Inverted Coaster which had a hour+ wait which we didn't want to wait for as we just rode the clone the other day with no line. So we headed over to Jungle Racing which had a 45 min wait but we noticed a QR code next to the line which we scanned and ended up being the fast pass system! We bought a fast pass and walked right on. It was a great Mine Train that was very similar to the one in Joyland.
We then bought 2 fastpasses to Family Inverted Coaster just to get the credit.
This park felt a lot more taken care of than its counterpart in Shanghai, and is definitely worth a visit.

The end

We took a couple days to visit all the big sites like the great wall of china, the forbidden city, the temple of heaven, etc. which is a must-do.
Then we flew over to South Korea for our next portion of our mega coaster trip!

2024.05.19 05:08 Flying_Snails_Today2 Holy Grail War: Looking Daggers

We see a magical monster jump around a bloody building happily. It seemed extremely happy as it found the manager of the building who threw things like pencils, papers, and a chair at it but nothing in the office could harm this creature.
Creature: Nehehe! Kahahahahahaha!
Manager: HELP! HELP MEEEEE! HELP ME NOW!
The creature went to grab the man but its arm was cut off at impossible speeds. It gasped in shock. Even the man couldn’t tell what happened as he looked around the room and saw an older woman.
Woman: Heh… monsters like this have been popping up a lot. Tell me assassin what might be the cause?
The creature would regrow its arm and send a raw blast of pure mana at the woman who would easily step out of the way. A woman in a white multi-layered kimono with black hair appeared behind the monster and stabbed it through the throat.
Creature: NEGHEGharajafa!
It turned into dust being easily killed by the black haired assassin.
Assassin: I presume it’s the work of a servant and or master.
Woman: That’s correct! Good job!
Assassin: So you already know the cause behind this?
Woman: Correct! I even know the servant and master responsible!
Assassin: Alright then…
Manager: What’s going on?! What’s happening?!
Woman: Assassin.
Assassin: Yes master.
She threw her dagger into the manager's skull killing him in an instant. Assassin sighed at her order and the kill. She picked up the dagger before placing it back within the scroll she normally used to conceal the small blade.
Assassin: Master who did this?
Woman: I'm not telling~
Assassin: Ugh… fine then master.
The two women walked out of the office building the master smiling brightly.
Woman: Hmm… I wonder what Saber’s master is doing?
Assassin: Is he of interest?
Woman: I knew his father! Would you be a dear and spy on him for me assassin?
Assassin: As you wish master…
Assassin bowed and quickly disappeared leaving the woman all alone as she laughed to herself.

Leo was reading a comic book while lying on his busted-up blue couch. He didn't have a single thought on his mind aside from the words and the images placed on each page.
Just then Ky walked into the room with an immaculate keychain in his hand. He held it up and passed it towards Leo who grabbed it as it flew above his head.
Ky: Here it was made back in Japan’s Heien Era.
Leo: What is it?
Ky: A cursed chain. While you have low mana it converts the lack of mana you have into physical strength. Therefore-
Leo: I can be super strong!
Ky: Basically. Just keep it in your pockets. I had the pull a lot of strings to get this from my sensei.

Elegant: You want it? Beat Shine in hand to hand! No powers just skills!
Ky: HOW AM I MEANT TO DO THAT?!

Ky: Ugh…
Leo would shove the chain back into his hoodie pocket. He gave a bright smile and placed his comic book down crossing his arms and leaning over the back of his couch.
Leo: So! What is the plan to win this war?
Ky: We need to get you trained up preferably. And we need to exterminate every master in the war.
Leo: Can’t we just… let them all kill one another and pick the last guy off?
Ky: Nope. Most likely they'll come for you while you try this strategy anyway. Even worse is the possibility the final master and servant standing could be an extremely bad matchup for Saber.
Leo: I guess you're right…
Ky: Now then… GUNPOWDER!
Guns appeared behind Ky who shot at a wall next to the bullet manifested the black-haired assassin servant.
Ky: Assassin!
Leo: Oh shit!
Ky’s technique is “Mental Recreation” This powerful ability has him use up his mana to create objects based on certain topics. These topics are gunpowder, transportation, death, nature, and war. These objects are limited to what Ky subconsciously associates with these words whenever he hears them. He can summon these objects with a hand sign or by saying the topic of origin. However, he can not create actual life. But his technique is based on his own interpretation. So if learns to interpret his limits differently his technique will respond in kind!
Ky: Death!
Skeletons appear from the floor but Assassin cuts both their heads off in a moment using her scroll.
Leo: Woah… she's fast…
Ky: If I had to wager a guess… I would say she's faster than Saber and closer in speed to Lancer.
Leo: You can tell that just by her attacking once?!
Ky: I am good with my eyes…
Leo: Saber!
Saber from the front porch came rushing into the living room switching from her casual clothes to her armor and pulling out her misty blade ready to fight.
Assassin: It would seem I'm outnumbered.
Ky: Wow she can even count!
Leo: Why are you even hear?
Assassin: I am here solely on orders from my master. I have no intention of fighting but if you force me to…
Leo: Oh fuck that!
Leo went to punch her in the face and Assassin ducked under grabbing him by the throat and personally slamming him through a wall the sunlight now radiating through the hole made within the wall.
Ky: Gunpowered!
A canon ball appeared a mere 2 inches from Assassin’s face and the second the canon shot she managed to dodge out of the way within an instant. She ran up and shoved the scroll into Ky’s shoulder stabbing through and making him bleed as she jumped onto the coffee table.
Ky: Damn it… some kind of concealed blade…
Saber: I don't wish to destroy Leo’s home… but I want to take out Assassin as soon as possible!
Saber sighed and rushed forward at incredible speeds that still were outmatched by Assassin who managed to dodge each slice of her blade before kicking Saber in the gut before roundhouse kicking her in the face sending her into another wall and cracking it.
Assassin: Strong as you all are I'm simply too fast for you all.
Leo then just grabbed a potted plant in the corner of his room as she wasn't paying him any attention and hit her in the back of the head with it stunning her so Saber could get back up, run, and stab Assassin in the shoulder.
Assassin: AHHHH!
Assassin cut Saber’s arm and elbowed Leo in the face before running out of the hole in the wall she made earlier.
Saber: Master!
Leo: What did I say about calling- actually I do not care…
Saber ran towards Leo who'd been sent to the ground on his ass. He seemed fine as he stood up holding onto Saber.
Leo: I am fine don't worry ok?
Saber: If you insist master! But should I give chase to Assassin?
Ky: Would not recommend it. She's clearly highly skilled. Even if you are probably stronger than her chasing her down might be a bad idea.
Leo: Yeah what Ky said! But what am I gonna do? Am I not safe in my own home now?
Saber: I'm afraid it seems you are not Leo…

Assassin walked into a large mansion on top of a hill and entered a bedroom.
Assassin: Master!
The woman turned to her with a sly grin pasted upon her face. She was currently sitting on her wooden chair while writing something in a notebook.
Woman: Assassin!
Assassin: I am afraid they spotted me rather quickly.
Woman: Did you kill any?
Assassin: No master…
Woman: Perfect! I don't want them to die before they know my name… Isda!
Assassin: Why?
Isda: That is for me to know Assassin! Me and me alone!

Gilgamesh sat upon his throne. Among all masters and servants in the holy grail war, he alone stood as the honored one. He viewed through on of Pat’s crystal balls the events that transpired between Assassin and Leo’s group.
Gilgamesh: That Saber… she's quite strong. Even with the master holding her down. And the Assassin is quite boring to me.
Pat: A-Archer-
Gilgamesh: You know nobody is watching us use my true name peasant!
Pat: Forgive me Gilgamesh! But why are we sitting in this pocket dimension?!
Gilgamesh: Simply to protect you from getting killed. You are quite weak and well I won't have any fun if you die. Even I can't sustain myself without a master!
Pat: O-oh I see…
Gilgamesh truly was a king!

Zuca sport cases for $15 each!
So super happy with these rolling bags. The frame is so well made and the wheels are like inline skates. The reason for two wheels is to help them go up stairs. Also they are designed to also be used as a seat. These bags sell for about $200 new and you can get new inserts for the frame for about $55. I am going to use for my checked luggage when I travel to Japan. Unfortunately a little too big for carry on but if I have to navigate cities and trains I think it will be good!

2024.05.19 04:20 KuroMango 4:25pm arrival, 6:10pm departure of next flight - Can I make it?

Hi there, I'm hoping for some advice for my upcoming travels. For context, I live in Japan currently and I am travelling back to my home country to visit for a couple weeks. I have a direct flight back from my home country to NRT booked. However, I still need to book my flight from NRT to CTS in Hokkaido (my final destination) and this is where I'm seeking advice.
I have two flight options for that day, which I will list as follows:
NRT CTS, departing 18:10 and arriving at 20:00. This is the flight I am hoping to take. It leaves from terminal 3.
NRT CTS, departing 20:45 and arriving 22:30. This is the safer flight in terms of time, but after I deplane and drive home, I wouldn't arrive until that night at like midnight. It also leaves from terminal 3.
Since my international flight arrives at 16:25 in terminal 1, I know that opting for the first flight option would be pushing it time-wise. But I would really prefer not to arrive home later than midnight. I know from recent travels of my friends that it took them about 40 minutes to deplane, get their luggage, and go through customs. So, that'd put the time at about 15:10, give or take. But, then I'd have to get to terminal 3, which I know there's a shuttle bus and train, but those can take time to wait for.
I was thinking about taking a taxi from terminal 1 to terminal 3, which Google maps says is about a 5 minute drive. But, I've never taken a taxi there so I'm unsure if there are always taxis available or if there can be lines of people waiting for taxis (like I've seen in other Japanese airports before). If a taxi were immediately available, I feel like I'd have enough time to get to the other terminal and check my luggage for the next flight and proceed through security.
I guess what I'm wondering is, for anyone who has recently gone through customs in Narita (especially if you have a work visa here, but not necessary) how long did it take you to deplane, get your luggage, and get through the customs secure zone entirely? Also, if anyone has taken a taxi from terminal 1 lately, was there an abundance of them or were there lines of people waiting?
I know no one can decide the level of risk I'd like to assume for booking a tight secondary departure time like that, but I think it could be feasible so long as customs doesn't take hours. So, what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

2024.05.19 03:46 ziggizahid1988 Best route around Japan - 10 day trip

My friend and I are going Japan end of August for 10 days. We land in Osaka at 7pm and are planning to go straight to Tokyo. Stay 3 nights Tokyo, 3 in Kyoto, 2 Nara and 2 Osaka. Would it be best to go straight to Tokyo after our plane ride from Aus OR go from Osaka -> Nara ->Kyoto -> Tokyo and back to Osaka? I will also be 28 weeks pregnant so not sure how exhausting the train ride would be straight from the plane ride.
And for the long trips would it be best to take a day pass rather than the JR pass?

2024.05.19 03:20 DDF6677 New character seagal

Steven seagal
What kind of character can Steven seagal play in season 4. He is a legit aikido master, he was the first American to ever open an aikido dojo in Japan, he lived in Japan for a significant period of time, he trained under accredited teachers etc, is a 7th-degree black belt in Aikido, a Japanese martial art that focuses on using an opponent's energy and momentum against them. He has also trained in other martial arts such as karate, judo, and kendo. Seagal has developed his own style of Aikido, which he calls "Shinto Muso-ryu Aikido" and has incorporated elements of other martial arts into his practice. He has also been known to incorporate spiritual and philosophical elements, such as meditation and Zen, into his training. That are his feats, so what kind of character do you think he could be? You all know ultimate badass

2024.05.19 03:08 georgecscott_2022 "Kyoto Study Reveals Nearly 500 Translation Errors, Issues New Guidelines"

A study in Kyoto found nearly 500 translation errors in signs and notices for foreign tourists at various locations, including train stations, hotels, and temples. To address this, the Kyoto City Tourism Association released new guidelines and held seminars to improve communication with non-Japanese speakers. The guidelines caution against over-reliance on machine translation and emphasize clear and polite language.

2024.05.19 02:54 petron5000 Headed to Japan…

I’m taking my son (12) for 8 days to Japan.
We are going to be on planes and trains and in three different cities.
I own a Tristar and a Synik 30.
I’m debating getting a Technonaut/Aeronaut 45 for this trip and setting my son up with the Synik but I’m afraid I’ll never use them again since I use a roller for my work trips over 2-3 days or use the Flyer (depends on the plane I’m flying on).
What would you do?

2024.05.19 01:40 jimmyslaysdragons Cycling from Munich to Budapest for 3.5 weeks. Any insight would be appreciated!

Hello all! We're a couple from the US and we will be cycling from Munich to Budapest over 25 days in June and July. The plan is to fly into Munich, cycle along the Isar river until we reach the Danube, and then go along the Danube through Austria, Slovakia, and into Budapest. We are planning to camp as much as possible along the way. This will be our second bicycle tour of this scale after doing one in Japan last summer.
We have a few questions about this ride. If you have answers to any of these questions, we'd love to hear from you! Thank you in advance.
  1. Any campgrounds, inns, or stops along this route that you would highly recommend?
  2. Best places to spend a rest day in your opinion?
  3. Any destinations off the Danube that are worth a side trip?
  4. General tips for this route?
  5. If we decide to take a train or bus for any part of the route, it sounds like we may or may not need to disassemble the bike and carry them in bike bags (rinko bags) depending on the route. Does anyone know if this tends to be the case in the countries where we'll be?
  6. It looks like the Eurovelo 6 has two options between Bratislava and Budapest. We could either take the southern side of the Danube into Hungary, or stay north of the Danube in Slovakia. Could anyone recommend one route over the other?
Thanks -- any other advice is greatly appreciated as well!

2024.05.19 01:30 barsaat Ideas needed for a relaxing extended solo trip. Please help me decide where to go!

I’m looking for specific suggestions about an extended solo trip - the purpose of the trip would be swimming, nature, art, food, cafes, beer or drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. For example a great time for me would be people watching in different cafes, going to the art gallery, sitting in a balcony looking at nature, snorkelling or short hiking 2 hour trips in nature by the water. I am recovering from an ankle injury and able to walk but want to spend longer in fewer locations and just relax, read and eat. Not really looking to party, I want peace and at most would sit at the bar and nurse 1-2 drinks if I am drinking. My preference is for quiet environments.
I’m an experienced traveller but this would be my first solo trip. I am confident with navigating language barriers and looking up things to do. I would like to avoid places where there is a lot of street harassment, I don’t want a lot of attention and would like to dress comfortably. I am queer presenting (hairstyle etc) and a person of colour, I would like to feel mostly safe e.g. Pakistan was not safe in this respect.
I would be travelling from Toronto, Canada in late July/August and can stay for as long as I want. Preferably would like to stay for 2 months.
I don’t drive, renting a car or motorbike is not an option so I would need public transportation to be safe and accessible.
Largest part of the budget would be long distance flights and accommodation. I have some savings I plan to put towards the trip and am usually good at budgeting but the accommodation cost is the main thing dictating the length of my trip.
I’m open to any suggestions, the more specific the better, e.g. choosing accommodation is my biggest barrier as there are so many options to choose from at varying prices. I would like a private room in a hostel / hotel / guest house or airbnb as I have insomnia.
Places I have been:
Vietnam
Thailand
Cambodia
Sri Lanka
Pakistan
Nepal
Japan
Malaysia
Turkey
Germany
Sweden
Italy
Amsterdam (Netherlands)
America
I am considering one (or more) of these options:
South Korea - this seems pricey, a quick google shows hotel prices being over $100/ a night in Seoul and I have heard it is harder to eat alone there? I haven’t been there and would like to go some day, and I love Korean food.
Going back to Japan - I loved it there, the hotels are not cheap but the food is cheap and excellent. I just went last May so it may be too soon to go back? Haha.
Going back to Thailand - again, I love the food, night markets were great
Going back to Vietnam - again, I love the food
Taiwan - I haven’t been there, I have heard that this is a good option as it is small and easy to walk or take buses to explore
Some kind of train or boat journeys?
Some kind of beachy quiet island vibes?
I considered all-inclusives but they seem geared towards couples or families with kids
Open to travelling within Canada instead of in SEA, but it would probably not be cheaper, and may end up being even more expensive with food and accommodation being expensive here, so it is not my first choice.
Thanks in advance

2024.05.19 00:07 TheCyclopOwl Local South Korean gym feels like the real deal

Local South Korean gym feels like the real deal
I’m travelling in South Korea and Japan for a few months, and hitting as many gyms as I can while training for a couple specific goals. This is Sulwoo Climbing Center in Gyeongju. If you’re ever in the area, do push the door, I highly recommend it.
You can catch me at @boulderingbanban if you’re interested in seeing me grinding against the famously humbling grades, and want to hear about the rich culture and the nice people I encounter in those training gyms!
Tips for catching a couple outdoors session while travelling are appreciated 😉 Or better yet, I’ll be in Jeju, Busan and Fukuoka for the next 3 weeks - give me a shout if you want to climb together!
PS, the aforementioned goals: - Climb 4 Moonboard V4 benchmarks by end of August. - Climb Bonne Mine and Meilleure Mine in Fontainebleau in the Fall of 2024.

2024.05.18 23:51 Sorry-Preference-141 Theories on how the game starts for both characters in Shadows (just for fun)

Curious what people think about how the game starts for both characters
Considering the leaks of Yasuke starting on a slave ship that is attacked and left for dead, and then found and brought to a temple. We can probably guess most of how the start plays out for him, either being brought straight to Oda Nobunaga, or the someone who brought him to the temple is a Jesuit and he then becomes their bodyguard like how the factual story of Yasuke start in Japan goes, he does something to get the notice of Oda or just gets noticed due to being a giant, or maybe Jesuit he is bodyguarding already has a meeting with Oda, I think any of these ends with Yasuke being given or choosing to go into Oda's service, maybe after proving capable or something, I then think a timeskip happens, because the game starts in 1579, but the Oda Nobunaga didn't invade and conquer Iga until 1581, which is what is being depicted in the trailer, which leads me to Naoe
The Ubisoft site says this, "At Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ start, Naoe is a 17-year-old from Iga, and the daughter of one of the era’s most iconic shinobi, Fujibayashi Nagato, who – despite a promise to keep her safe – is forced to train her to be his equal in battle".
In 1579 Oda Nobunaga's son led an invasion on Iga that was unsuccessful, this could be the start of Naoe's story in the game, her father promises to keep her safe could be about this invasion, or something to do with being a shinobi leader I'm not sure, after fighting off the invaders, this battle could be the catalyst for being forced to train her to be his equal in battle, him wanting her to keep her safe and the best way to do that is to teach her the ways of the shinobi, this is where I think would happen for Naoe.
The timeskip for both characters being 2 years puts them in the year where Oda Nobunaga successfully invaded Iga, taking the trailer literally, this could be the 1st time the characters meet during this battle, the leaks of Naoe story say her father is killed by the order which forces her to join the assassins, I think his death happens in this battle. This is what it says on Ubisoft's website
"Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ dual protagonists are ultimately brought together by Nobunaga, whose goal of unifying Japan takes his army – and Yasuke – to the province of Iga for the Second Tenshō Iga War. The Igan resistance, though greatly overpowered by Nobunaga’s army, is courageously led by Naoe’s father. The two protagonists find each other through Nobunaga, although, for obvious reasons, they don’t exactly get off to a great start."
This is as far as I got right now, have no idea how Yasuke and Naoe become allies. I assume we'll get the timeskip early in the game because I doubt we'll be playing as a 17 year old Naoe, even more so when relationships seem to be a thing seeing how it says this on the site regarding Naoe's and Yasuke's disparate personalities
"Romantically, they will also attract and be attracted to different types of people. Through the pair, players will get to experience a multitude of relationships."
Doubt Ubisoft want people talking about romantic relationships with a 17 year old character, not sure if 19 is much better but still. Anyway let me know anything you think could happen, where I could be wrong, how you want it to start, anything. I need to hear people talk about this game that isn't solely based on Yasuke...

2024.05.18 23:25 Hot_Consideration_60 Recommendations for accommodations / Luggage storage for a 3.5 week trip?

In September I am going on a solo trip to Japan for like 3.5 weeks and I am getting all my general travel plans together (not necessarily booking, but just looking at what is available and planning my budget).
Does anyone have tips or recommendations on what to do about luggage storage and hotels? My initial goal was switching between cheap options like Capsule Hotels or places that may have fewer amenities, and jumping into hotels when I need to do laundry and get a proper shower, shave, etc.
But then I realized what the hell do I do with my luggage? I don't mind lugging a backpack around but I REALLY do not want to be accidentally knocking it against people or taking up three times as much space on a train and looking like an idiot.
Just wanted to see what other people's experiences were who decided to go budget on the sleeping. And maybe check if anyone had found ways to deal with their luggage without it being a hassle.
Any tips appreciated.

2024.05.18 22:48 Empoleon777 A Question

For a little while now, I’ve been thinking of trying something along the lines of New Horizons’ “Top 10 Most Powerful Characters in Naruto Based on What We Knew At the Time” series, but with the original continuity of the Cardfight!! Vanguard anime. The first step in doing something like this would be dividing the series into arcs to scale. Below is my attempt at doing so. Does this list look reasonable for something like this (Note: Some of the arcs have a list of bullet points underneath them. These are cases where you could easily divide one large arc into multiple “sub-arcs” and scale those individually, like the Link Joker or G Quest arcs)?
