2024.06.02 08:27 Candy_Flipper_69 Andre Braugher was a treasure

Bit late to pay tribute, but I was rewatching B99 and was just struck by how much Holt was central to much of what i loved most about this great show.
Andre Braugher brought so much to the show, not only in the comedic moments but especially the dramatic heartfelt moments (see this scene for an example of the heart he brought to Holt and how brilliant his performance could be https://youtu.be/JzuCh7vBrsM?si=Knr68RGzGomErLAe).
RIP Andre, thank you, you were a gem.

2024.06.02 08:26 onionsrock is she just nice or is she into me?

so basically there’s this girl who i think may be interested in me, as i also am interested in her. i’ve known her as a peer for a few years now but only in recent months have i noticed that i have a crush on her. she has always been friendly with me but in the past few weeks she has been more touchy then usual. for example, the other day she came up to my desk (we go to the same school) and started a conversation with me. she ended up touching my arm a little bit and she was flirting (i think?) and i honestly can’t tell what’s going on. i asked a few friends of hers and they have said that it seems like i have a chance but that’s also just how she is. i dunno what’s going on lol somebody advise me pls.
tldr:
this girl in my school has seemingly been flirty with me. can’t tell if she is interested or is just being nice. if you need additional info pls ask me and i’ll be more then willing to share.
thank you :)

2024.06.02 08:26 moukiez WiFi and Bluetooth keep disabling themselves, shows no networks, and laptop freezes and has trouble turning on/restarting properly, all since yesterday.

I'm at my wit's end, hopefully someone can help me resolve this issue. I apologize for the deluge of text you're about to read.
My laptop is an Acer ConceptD 7 Ezel CC715-71, running Windows 11 Pro. I got it late 2020 I believe, and aside from the sound no longer working a few months in and the finger print sensor saying it can't recognize my fingerprint after like a handful of uses until I reset/re-register the fingerprints and anew, only for the process to repeat yet again, it's been perfect.
(I was living in Canada at the time and imported it from the States, so after all the hassle with customs, it wasn't worth jumping through all those hoops to send it back again, even if it was ridiculous that the sound and fingerprint sensor stopped working just a few months in for such an expensive device.)
Fast forward four years to yesterday, and it was working fine, but I went to the bathroom and came back, and suddenly the WiFi wasn't working. It was fine on every other device/phone/laptop/Steam Deck, but no matter what I did, the WiFi refused to connect.
In the past, I've had issues with this laptop being the only device to not connect to the WiFi network in this building, but now it's not detecting any networks. It claims the WiFi is on, but checking in the settings show it isn't. Clicking it on refuses to engage, either failing to do so, or looking like it complies before immediately turning itself off.
Then the WiFi icon/option would disappear entirely, and the Bluetooth did the same. I would find the Bluetooth setting in the Device Manager window when I enable "Show Hidden Devices", but I don't know how or why it was hidden.
My Network Adapter (Intel (R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201160MHz, I believe) would be disabled, and checking the Event tab in the Properties would say things like "Device not started (Netwtw10)" and "Device configured (oem91.inf)" and things like that.
I would try updating, downloading the latest drivers from Acer for my laptop using my phone and transfer it to my phone and try to install them, and sometimes it would say it installed and works, but other times it would say it detected the drivers I wanted to install but failed to install them.
I've tried disabling and enabling the driver, uninstalling and reinstalling it, deleting it and restarting the laptop to automatically get it again (not sure how it did so without the internet, but it would be there, every time), and doing the same for the Bluetooth driver.
Sometimes the WiFi would work for like all of a minute or two, before it would become disabled and find no networks and there would be an error with the driver and the event log saying things like the Device didn't start, and once or twice I think I saw it say "WiFi Device Cannot Start (code 10)".
At this point I was ready to give up and just use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop to connect to and call it a day until I could care enough again, but even that wasn't applicable, because that option for Mobile Hotspot was grayed out and said something about how I couldn't connect it no Ethernet or Wifi device connected. (Specifically, it says "We can't set up mobile hotspot because your PC doesn't have an Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or cellular data connection.)
All through this, my laptop started being fucking weird in that if I clicked "restart", it wouldn't turn itself back on. I'd have to press the power button to do so, and even then, it often wouldn't. I've tried power cycling like three fucking trillion times, and it would never work consistently or turn on after I've let the lights blink several times or waited 30 seconds or 60 seconds or longer.
(Aaaaaaaand I suspected my WiFi would be a bitch again and so I tried to send what I've typed out on the laptop to my phone via Telegram (because typing all this on my phone was getting tedious), but of course, the WiFi went out the SECOND I tried. I was using the Mobile Hotspot option immediately just in case my normal WiFi network went out, but it still disabled itself and wouldn't stay online via Mobile HotSpot when the option was available/not grayed out like it is now.
So I'm going to have to save this wall of text as a text document or something and manually transfer it to my phone.)
I finally decided to do a system restore, selecting one from May 26th, and it took like 30 - 45+ minutes, and of course it didn't restart itself, but when I finally managed to find the right power cycle attempt to get it to turn on, my laptop said the system restore was a success.
Huzzah! It was working. For 30 minutes.
😐
So I tried to download MalwareBytes on my phone, and it downloaded then I transferred it to my laptop, and of course it needed to connect to the internet to download the rest of itself, so it wasn't conducive to anything in this situation.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver and I (foolishly) thought I had solved my WiFi/Bluetooth issues last night and was even feeling galvanized to try and open up the bottom of my laptop and see if the sound issue I've been avoiding dealing with/coping by using Bluetooth earbuds/headphones for the past four years was as simple as something being unplugged, so I went to get my strebito kit, which I see everywhere around me and in my vicinity, except of course (you guessed it) the one time in four years that I actually genuinely needed it :))))))))))))))))
I also got a BSOD today, and I think I glimpsed it saying something like "ACPI block management", but it was very quick so I can't be sure. I tried to google that, but the only ACPI answers I could see in relation to googling it for reddit solutions (lol I love that everyone has had a problem before and that there is invariably a reddit thread with that exact problem, situation, and solution) were in relation to ACPI BIOS errors, so it may have been that.
I tried accessing the BIOS (which took a lot and trial of error in power cycling because of how inconsistent it is that my laptop has been with turning on since yesterday). Of course, I had apparently previously set a BIOS password when trying to allow my laptop to boot into Batocera like a year or so ago, and I apparently am not intelligent enough to have had the foresight to write it down in a note or document on my phone, despite me knowing my ADHD/memory is garbagio, so I always make it a POINT to do so, because I don't trust my powers of recollection (and apparently, as evidenced by this instance, with good fucking reason!).
Of course, I forgot to mention that now my laptop freezes, including when I was writing up a majority of this thread in the aforementioned notepad, so now I can't even transfer it and have to re-type what few paragraphs I see (I had JUST scrolled down to make more distance between the bottom of the text and the document because I hate not having that visual buffer between the text and the bottom of the window, it makes me feel like the text is running out or more difficult to see/continue) on my phone anyways, so that was yet another obstacle. 🙃
So, to summarize:
  1. Laptop's WiFi/Bluetooth keep disabling themselves and the Bluetooth keeps hiding itself, so not even the icon is visible. The WiFi can't find any networks, and refuses to turn on (even though it says it does when I toggle it), and when it's like this, I cannot connect via Mobile Hotspot either.
  2. The laptop is being very peculiar about it restarting, only does so if I press the power again after it shuts down (despite me selecting restart), and even then, only sometimes. I keep having to power cycle it to try and find the perfect sweet spot to let go and have it actually turn on.
  3. The laptop now freezes within 20 or so minutes, and stays that way until I restart the laptop.
  4. Sometimes it tells me that a driver reinstall works, other times it says it doesn't.
  5. The driver events say that the device did not start, and error 10.
  6. The laptop showed a Blue Screen of Death today, and the error said "ACPI" followed by (what I think it was) "block management" or (what it probably was) "BIOS error".
  7. I set a BIOS password that I do not remember.
  8. I do not have access to my Strebito toolkit to open up the laptop, nor do I have money to take it to BestBuy Geek Squad or wherever does laptop repair.
  9. My laptop speakers do not work, despite sound apparently playing based on the animation/sound waves playing in the sound settings when media is active, and stops when nothing is playing, leading me to believe maybe something has been unplugged for like 4 years internally.
  10. (I have many a time tried to uninstall, reinstall, download, and update Realtek drivers, but no sound comes from my speakers.)
  11. I managed to run MalwareBytes, and it said it found a Neshta virus in a CEMU/WiiU emulator I downloaded literally years ago in the CEMUHOOK.DLL file), which I assume was present even in the system restore done yesterday backed up from 6 days ago. Apparently there was also Yontoo adware. I have since quarantined them.
  12. (I should perhaps also note I rarely if ever use CEMU, and certainly haven't within the past two years, if not longer. I just like having access should I do desire on a whim to play.)
  13. The problems (aside from the missing sound) started just yesterday, when I was away from the computer briefly, so it's even more vexing because I wasn't there at the onset of the issue or saw what caused it.
Either the universe or my own hubris and ineptitude keep trying to humble me, so I require patience and assistance. Please. And thank you. 😭 Whatever steps, whatever instructions, as long as they're clear and step by step, I can provide whatever you might need to deduce what the issue is and what a solution might be.

2024.06.02 08:20 Figit090 Unexpected "I bought it because it looks cool" find, Vanity 6! Prince assembled the group.

Unexpected
I was going through a large yard sale lot and found this Vanity 6 album, the only full album they ever released. I knew there was a lot of good 80s stuff so I trusted the vibe. This band was started by Prince, wanting a sexy female trio to produce, he organized it and unsurprisingly had a relationship with Vanity, the lead singer for about a year in 1982. Wiki mentions Prince thought looking at her was like looking at a female version of himself (weird!). After some drama m the group split up, and now this disc is a little valuable ($50-150), probably due to its limited scope and interesting history/ties.
Funny side note, again according to wiki; Prince originally wanted Denise Matthews' stage name to be Vagina, and the group was to be The Hookers. 😐 thankfully she declined and took the stage name Vanity, of Vanity 6. 🫣
So far the sound is typical Prince, you can hear it IMMEDIATELY in the first track, the synth sounds and rhythm is very characteristic. Overall the album isn't anything to go crazy for, but it's cool to have especially if you like Prince's stuff. Lyrics are goofy and pretty sexual, but not very catchy or inspiring. Some tracks are pretty obscure, more spoken than sung, with hints of DEVO-like sounds in "Bite The Beat" 🧐

2024.06.02 08:19 AllthingsMLB Backstory or aftermath

Backstory or aftermath
I’ve seen this dashcam footage go around now and from what I understand the dashcam footage was of a motorist who got clocked 29 MPH over the limit and was given a ticket. The motorist got very angry and was agitated, hurled a lot of verbal stuff towards the trooper. Trooper remained calm and didn’t escalate. The stop ended up with the motorist driving away with the ticket. Pleaded not guilty and failed to show up to court, license got suspended.
Now to the real question, I’ve seen comments saying how this was used in training for police officers. One comment I saw said that this video was used as an example of how to act if someone is hurling verbal abuse to you. But another comment said they saw the video used as an example of what not to do. They said the officer didn’t use any de-escalation and said the trooper antagonized the man with tone and voice. And finally said the trooper was under investigation for violent contacts.
This two sided aftermath story confuses me, my research didn’t come up with anything fruitful. So if anyone knows the true aftermath it would shed some light, thank you.

2024.06.02 08:17 sanjeevpandeybharat How do we find guest posting vendors?

Finding guest posting vendors or services can be done through several methods:
  1. **Online Search**: Use search engines to look for guest posting services or agencies. You can use keywords like "guest posting service," "guest blogging agency," or "guest posting vendors" to find relevant results.
  2. **Social Media**: Platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook can be valuable for finding guest posting vendors. Look for groups or communities related to blogging, content marketing, or SEO where vendors might promote their services or where users share recommendations.
  3. **Content Marketing Forums**: Websites like Reddit's content_marketing or forums like Warrior Forum often have discussions and recommendations related to guest posting services.
  4. **Content Marketing Conferences or Events**: Attend industry events or conferences focused on content marketing, SEO, or digital marketing. You may meet vendors offering guest posting services or get recommendations from other attendees.
  5. **Referrals**: Ask other bloggers or website owners in your niche if they have used guest posting services and if they can recommend any vendors. Personal referrals can be one of the most reliable ways to find reputable vendors.
  6. **Online Marketplaces**: Some online marketplaces specialize in connecting businesses with freelance writers or guest posting services. Examples include Upwork, Freelancer, or Fiverr. However, be cautious and thoroughly vet the vendors before making a commitment.
  7. **Content Marketing Agencies**: Many content marketing agencies offer guest posting services as part of their offerings. Research and reach out to agencies that specialize in content creation and SEO to inquire about guest posting options.
When evaluating guest posting vendors, consider factors such as their reputation, the quality of websites they have access to, their pricing structure, their process for finding and pitching guest post opportunities, and any guarantees they offer regarding the quality and relevance of the posts. It's also essential to ensure that their practices align with Google's guidelines to avoid any negative impact on your website's SEO.

🔗Blue Sea 7621100 ml ACR Charging Relay - Automatic Battery Management System

https://preview.redd.it/ja2b7lv4p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c22b1f25e5a77ceb54c08dc24d442b72edf65c3d

During my time sailing on the open seas, I encountered a predicament where my boat's batteries were not being charged properly. That's when I stumbled upon the Blue Sea 7621100 ml ACR Charging Relay. This ingenious device quickly solved my problem, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
The Blue Sea Charging Relay has an automatic charging system that manages the charging of two large battery banks, which was essential in my case. Additionally, it allows me to parallel my battery banks during emergency starting, providing me with that extra peace of mind while out at sea.
Another impressive feature was the 500 Ampere continuous rating, which supported my high-output alternators. This device truly proved its worth by handling the heavy-duty charging tasks with ease.
However, there was one minor issue I encountered - the dual sensing system that senses the charge on both battery banks sometimes caused a bit of confusion while troubleshooting. But overall, the pros outweighed the cons, and I wholeheartedly recommend the Blue Sea 7621100 ml ACR Charging Relay to any sailor in need of a reliable battery management solution.

🔗Alpha Wire 2844/7 Black Hook-Up Wire (24AWG, 304.8m)

https://preview.redd.it/j3j1u6c5p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97c62f850a237c37eb6f15a071d9d5c26620aa60
The Alpha Wire 2844/7 BK001 hook-up wire is the perfect solution for your electrical needs. It's a 24AWG stranded copper wire that's silver-coated for enhanced conductivity.
The black PTFE jacket provides an excellent insulating layer, making it durable and resistant to wear and tear. The wire is compact, with a 0.036" diameter and a thickness of just 0.006", allowing for easy installation without compromising on its strength. And with a voltage rating of 250V, you can rest easy knowing that it's perfectly designed to handle most household appliances.
I've found that not only does it work well in my daily life, but it's also quite reliable in terms of durability. Overall, this 2844/7 BK001 hook-up wire from Alpha Wire is a top-notch product that I would highly recommend to anyone in need of a reliable hook-up wire.

🔗ACR Olas Core Base Station and Mob Alarm System: MOB Alert with Ultra-Bright LED and Audible Alarm

https://preview.redd.it/wlecdi06p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b800e5142af720f1ec92550a3f19845540f0f8d5
I recently had the chance to try out the ACR Olas Core Base Station and Mob Alarm System, and I must say, it's a game-changer for boaters. This small yet powerful device has saved me on more than one occasion. Say goodbye to those "Man Overboard" panics and hello to a reassuring safety net for your crew.
One thing that stood out to me was the base station's ability to connect with up to 15 wearable or float transmitters. It's like having a virtual lifeline for your crew, all within arm's reach. I particularly love the option to connect to the ACR Olas mobile app, which provides directional screens and essential MOB positioning prompts during recovery operations.
However, there were a few things I wish were different. For example, the device could be a bit more user-friendly, especially for people who may not be comfortable using technology. Also, I found the wearable transmitters to be a bit bulky, which might be an issue for those who want a sleeker look. But overall, the ACR Olas Core Base Station and Mob Alarm System certainly has my seal of approval.

🔗ACR HydroFix EPIRB Release Unit: Seamless Emergency Beacon Release

https://preview.redd.it/57x7v0h6p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff1d8c07162364b1500a9a3a63945bc6e500b675
I recently had the chance to try out the ACR Sea Shelter unit, part of the HydroFix Hydrostatic Release Unit family, and let me tell you, it truly lives up to its reputation as a reliable and user-friendly device.
One of the standout features of this unit is its compatibility with various ACR EPIRB categories. I found the installation process to be incredibly smooth, thanks to the included ACR Sea Shelter, Sea Shelter2, and Sea Shelter3 brackets. These brackets made fitting the unit onto my EPIRB a breeze.
Another great aspect of this release unit is its lack of reliance on battery, blade, or pyrotechnic device to release the beacon when an emergency occurs. The design is built for a quick, seamless, and dependable release in such situations.
However, I did notice that this product is date-stamped and must be replaced every two years from the date of installation or four years from the date of manufacture. While this might seem like a minor inconvenience, it's a good incentive to ensure your device is always up-to-date and functioning at its best.
Overall, my experience with the ACR Sea Shelter unit was very positive. The ease of installation, reliable release mechanism, and compatibility with various EPIRBs make it a valuable investment for anyone looking to ensure their safety at sea. Highly recommended!

🔗Compact, Resilient Personal Locator Beacon with Return Link Service

The ACR ResQLink View RLS beacon I've been using in my outdoor escapades is a remarkably compact and robust device. It's been meticulously designed, tested, and engineered to withstand even the most extreme environmental conditions. This beacon is also buoyant, which gives it an added edge in watery adventures.
One feature that really stands out is the Return Link Service (RLS) functionality. It's reassuring to know that if I ever need help, my distress message will be received, and my location detected, giving me peace of mind. The device also has a handy digital display that provides live status updates, and with no subscription needed, I don't have to worry about hidden costs.
The battery life is impressive, with a 5-year lifespan and an operational life of 28 hours. However, it's worth mentioning that the device is quite lightweight, which might affect its overall durability. But considering its excellent features and performance, I'd say the ResQLink View RLS is a top choice for anyone seeking a personal locator beacon.

🔗Raco 2844 Metallic Cast Compression Connector for EMT Conduit

https://preview.redd.it/swmbwq67p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9406a84d6abaf3b8ae7e37fc7cd81a6515416208
The Raco 2844 Cast Uninsulated Compression, aka the Acr Electronics 2844, is a meticulously crafted conduit fitting that boasts an impressive 5.0 rating out of 16 reviews. Designed for EMT conduit, this connector offers a natural finish and robust die-cast zinc construction.
As someone who's been on the receiving end of this product, their CSA and UL listed standards left me confident with the quality of the build. The 2.19 inch overall length and 3.5 inch trade size make this connector a versatile option for your conduit fittings, while the compression connector design provides secure and concrete-tight connections. The ease of wrench installation is also a major plus, as it ensures a snug fit without any hassle.
However, I should note that this connector is non-insulated, so it may not be the best option for certain applications where insulation is a requirement. Additionally, the connector's zinc material may be subject to slight corrosion over time, which could slightly hinder its longevity. Nonetheless, the Raco 2844 Cast Uninsulated Compression is a reliable and efficient conduit fitting, perfect for those seeking a solid, wrench-installed connection in their electrical projects.

🔗Alpha Wire 2844/7 BR001 Hook-Up Wire - 24AWG, Brown, 305M Cable

https://preview.redd.it/9d5e9gk7p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8c7e9b72b1d040ac5bc56663d7684b3a59f0804
I've been using the Alpha Wire 2844/7 BR001 Hook-Up Wire for a while now, and it's been a game-changer in my daily life. The stranded copper, silver-coated conductor and PTFE jacket insulation make it a reliable and durable option, perfect for hooking up my electronic devices.
The 24 AWG wire gauge and 305m length have made it easy to work with, and I appreciate the flexibility it provides. The brown jacket insulation has a nice touch and is easy to spot in my messy workspace.
However, one thing I've noticed is that the voltage rating of 250V might not be suitable for all applications, so I had to double-check to make sure it was compatible with my devices.
Overall, the Alpha Wire Hook-Up Wire is a reliable and convenient solution for my electronics needs, and I highly recommend it for others looking for a high-quality wire.

Using the Alpha Communications AM612/04S in my daily life has been a breeze. The hands-free loudspeaking feature works really well, allowing me to communicate without any hassle. The weather-resistant mylar speaker is a standout feature, as it ensures the device performs optimally outdoors, withstanding various weather conditions. The self-wiping push button switches are convenient, providing hassle-free access to the intercom.
However, one downside I've encountered is the presence of plastic buttons and grille, which might not be as durable as I'd like it to be. Additionally, the decorative end caps, while visually appealing, seem a bit flimsy. I've also noticed that the slim-line surface-mount option can cause some installation challenges when mounting the device directly on the wall, despite it being easy to install overall.

🔗Violet 24AWG Alpha Wire Hook-Up

https://preview.redd.it/0qdh67g8p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14776e54330273e6d08353a6f1830dbd2598cc93
I was tasked with reviewing an Alpha Wire 2844/7 VI001, a Hook-Up Wire with a 24 AWG copper conductor, coated in violet PTFE insulation. I found the product both durable and visually appealing. The silver coating on the conductor gives it a professional look, while the violet insulation is easier to spot in a busy lab or workshop.
However, I did notice a minor downside. Connecting and disconnecting the wire from its terminals can sometimes be a bit tricky due to the conductor's small size. Despite this minor inconvenience, the wire held up well in my daily use, and I'd recommend it for anyone seeking a reliable and attractive hook-up wire solution in their electrical projects.

🔗15A Rackmount Power Sequencer with 9 Outlets - ETL Listed, EMI/RFI Filtering, and Dual Activation Delay

https://preview.redd.it/bxeintk8p34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcf3d45eac75a7bbb9559d105613e3e3bca93def
I recently had the chance to try out Lowell ACR-SEQ4-1509 15A Rackmount Power Sequencer, and I have to say, it made quite an impact in my daily life. The first thing that caught my eye was its compact design. It fits easily into any standard rack, and its steel chassis feels sturdy and reliable.
What stood out the most for me was the sequencer's ability to control the power flow to my devices. The front rocker switch effortlessly activated and deactivated the "switched" outlets in the back. The adjustable delay of 0.5 to 10 seconds between each step allowed me to tailor the power sequence to my specific needs.
But, the highlight of this product for me has to be the LED status indicators. They are color-coded and make it incredibly easy to understand the status of each powered device. The addition of the optional momentary remote switches is also a nice touch for those who require hands-free control.
The only downside I found was the lack of an on/off switch. While not a deal-breaker for me, it may be something others consider when purchasing this power sequencer.
Overall, Lowell ACR-SEQ4-1509 15A Rackmount Power Sequencer is a handy tool that makes managing my power connections a breeze. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to streamline their power distribution.

🔗Reliable, LED Distress Flare for Safe Navigation

https://preview.redd.it/dj7r48cap34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8472af3a5a158a87bf8b096aa88139eea0c97757
As a boater, I've always been wary of traditional pyrotechnic flares for safety reasons. That's why, when I came across the ACR ResQFlare Electronic Distress Flare & Flag, I knew I had to give it a try. This innovative device has been designed to provide a safer, more reliable alternative to traditional pyrotechnic flares and can even be carried in lieu of them.
What stood out the most was the 360-degree visibility from over six miles away. Not only did it provide excellent visibility during emergencies, but it also had a significantly longer burn time than traditional flares. Its lightweight, compact size, and floatability made it incredibly easy to use – all while being fungus, corrosion, and water-resistant.
The ACR ResQFlare also comes with a distress flag, which, when carried together, qualifies as a replacement for traditional pyrotechnic flares. It's a perfect addition to any ditch bag, especially considering that it doesn't go out of date, saving me time and avoids the hassle of replacement.
One downside I faced was the lack of a lanyard attached to the device. While it floats upright in water, there are better options available that might be more visible in daylight compared to the ACR ResQFlare. However, as a safety device, the ACR ResQFlare still gets the job done without the risk of fire or injury.
In conclusion, the ACR ResQFlare Electronic Distress Flare & Flag is a great addition to any boater's safety arsenal. It's easy to use, safe, and provides excellent visibility during emergencies. Its longevity and added convenience make it a worthy choice as a replacement for traditional pyrotechnic flares.

2024.06.02 08:16 CharacterOk8322 A semi ranty reflection in honor of the end of EDS/HSD Awareness Month: Zebra Citizen Science: The collectivity/individuality Dialectic and its implications for science as chaos & democracy as experiment

“You’ve seen one Ehlers-Danlos patient, you’ve seen one Ehlers Danlos patient.”
–Ancient EDS/HSD Proverb
According to the philosopher and historian of science Paul Feyerabend, science is a fundamentally anarchistic endeavor, and the notion of the uniformity of scientific method is a fantasy. The nosological and diagnostic criteria crisis in the field of connective tissue disorders is a perfect example. This is GREAT news for Zebras. We have a golden opportunity to take up the mantle of Citizen Science and join the Chaos! We can actually help solve a great scientific puzzle! Just by communicating with our physicians, PTs, specialists and other medical professionals. We wanted to stop being gaslighted an/or misdiagnosed, dismissed, or accused of being drug seekers or difficult patients by members of the medical-industrial complex, right? Let's contribute to the nosological and diagnostic criteria efforts of physicians and researchers around the globe by making our Zebra-hood known and recognized as legitimate by the medical establishment. Like the other great historian of science of the last century Thomas Kuhn famously observed, the most important changes in science have always required revolutions. Let's make it plain to the MIC that we don't just want and deserve the recognition due our dilemmas; we also want accuracy, even if that means that there turns out to be as many individuals! I jest, of course. That’s never going to happen, but my point is that we need to remember to try and always emphasize that our situation/s is/are fundamentally non-paradigmatic, viz., that it’s time for some of the old ways to die, that our uniqueness is just as much medical necessity as it is scientific puzzle; that despite many of us being neurodiverse on top of being sufferers of connective tissues disorder, we are also, even perhaps paradoxically, united by and in that diversity; and that even though we are subjects in experiments aimed at taxonomical precision, we are not only, as Susan Sontag put it in her seminal book on medical gaslighting Illness as Metaphor, we are also Citizens in The Democracy of the Zebras.
Even though Feyerabend was fond of characterizing science as fundamentally anarchistic, he usually added that he did not endorse anarchy as good government, and that his conclusions were not ideologically prescriptive and/or normative, but historically descriptive. If this is true, it entails that Zebras are yet involved in another paradox, that between the experimental anarchy of science and the attempts of the medical establishment to nosologically order its conditions, disorders, syndromes and diseases. It’s my contention that phenomenon like the invention of the Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder and similar labels are artifacts, at least in part, of a constant dialectic between the state of experimental chaos and democratic idealism, which for Zebras seems to me to usually manifest as the need to be seen and heard not only as a collective of solidarity, but simultaneously as individuals with unique, case-by-case issues.
The idea that we live in a perpetual experiment is not unusual, especially to the citizenry of the United States and those who live in countries founded upon similar moral-political philosophies and classical liberalism. Our founding fathers called the constitution a great experiment, and while their understanding of science and its methods could be construed as primitive compared to ours, there’s still plenty in it to carry their sentiment over to our times. As unsettling as the chaos of our US and US style democracy can feel to some of us right now, it only takes a brief survey of the history of those democracies to see that our contemporary situation is tame compared to events like the American Revolution, the American Civil War, and our involvement in fighting European fascism in the first half of the last century. We often hear the mantra, “We’ve never been so divided,” but surveys like this provide demonstrative evidence that’s likely nothing more than recency bias.
With appreciation and respect,
~l

2024.06.02 08:16 Glittering_Pea_5341 traumatized or am i overreacting?

okay so this is my first server job and such so i never experienced anything like this at my regular old subway job lol,
we have been having problems with our manager, for example yelling at BOH and such but today was just too much. one of the cooks walked out and quit on the spot but i honestly don’t know why, i was preparing a door dash order. our manager apparently was going to hit her after she mentioned she was gonna quit, but then she screamed like bloody murder on the top of her lungs DONT FUCKING TOUCH ME!! that startled me, my other coworker, and all of the customers in the restaurant. i really don’t know what conspired for that outburst but then our manager started yelling back GTFO and stuff.
so at that point i was thinking what the hell is going on and went up to the customers to give them their checks and apologize but then the cook that quit she came up to me and yelled “give me the fucking phone i’m gonna call the cops”. i said “okay just calm down we have a family here with a baby”, and she said “i don’t fucking care you guys can cook your own fucking food i’m out of here”.
at that point me and my coworkers were shook and after she called the cops she threw the phone towards customers on the floor…and yea my manager apologized to us about his yelling after the cops/security came but still he shouldn’t even have yelled and attempted to hit her(from what i heard)…
i was very overwhelmed honestly even though none of it was me and the other waitresses fault. i went to the bathroom to breakdown and cry lol but honestly after this shift idk if i wanna work there anymore or should i just suck it up???
thanks for reading if you did make it this far and sorry if my story sounded confusing lol, but i truly don’t know what happened for her to quit on the spot but it was not okay for what our manager did back!

2024.06.02 08:14 MarilynMonheaux My Birthday & Her Faces

My birthday is coming up and I’ve been thinking a lot about last year. I had a lot of fun because it’s easy for me to block out negativity. My X pwNPD actually did put in considerable effort into my birthday. She rented an Airbnb so I could take a bubble bath. There was lots of Cava from Spain, my favorite. We went to the spa and got seaweed wraps. She took me to see West Side Story with a live orchestra. Beautiful! For dinner we went to a North African/Latin fusion restaurant. It was divine.
I don’t want to diminish what she did. She spent her time, effort, and money on me and I am thankful that she had desire to do that.
I can’t stop thinking about her faces.
She was extremely argumentative the entire weekend of my birthday. She was meaner than I’d ever seen her.
I’ve seen a lot of videos since that time on how narcs ruin special events. It’s crazy to me. Why put in all this work and then be an asshole?
In retrospect I believe the obsession and infatuation had ended at that point. She barely smiled all weekend. It was like she was doing a chore. It was like it was bothering her.
I had asked her just prior to that about if she was infatuated with me and if it had ended.
One night we were rolling around in the bed and she whispered in my ears “I can’t let you go.” I never asked her to elaborate on that.
I knew what it meant.
I remember going into the bathroom at that fusion restaurant and crying my eyes out. I already knew I was in devaluation, I just didn’t have the terminology or framing then.
The heartbreak from a year ago feels fresh. The relationship went on for much longer, but I think my birthday was when I knew I wasn’t being loved.
I feel that moment really acutely. The moment where I figured out that not only was I not being loved, I was beginning to feel attacked.
I was so deep in love, so deep in trauma, I didn’t know what to do.
I was frustrated, so disappointed. So very hurt.
I splashed some cool water on my eyes, and went back out to the table.
She didn’t notice. I knew she wouldn’t.
As we left the theater, a random visitor apoeared. It looked like an older masc woman came up to my X pwNPD and said “wow. Her coat. Her shoes, you sure are lucky.”
I looked at my abusers face.
Growl, scowl, crossed arms.
I should have known it would only get worse from there.
I really wish I had walked away then.
For my ignorance I suffered greatly at the hands of my heartless and shallow abuser.

2024.06.02 08:14 Apartus1 I didn’t know I hated myself

It’s a very long story but please bear with me as it’s something I really need to get off my chest, I’ll really appreciate advice, I can’t get it out of my head. I’m 21M in college.
My friends have always been girls or gay guys and I’ve only ever had 2 straight guy friends my whole life and even then we weren’t too close. I’ve always been a sensitive kid and my interests never were “masculine”, so where some guys either dabbed in sports or video games or cars, my interests actually were anything but those things. Because of this, I felt outcasted by most guys at my school for not having any connections.
I met a guy my first year of college who I quickly befriended despite us not having really anything in common. This was the year that social distancing rules were being lifted, and I hadn’t made any friends at my college so I was desperate to make friends. But this one was different, I felt myself becoming obsessed with him. I wanted to be his only friend, the person he’d want to see the most and talk about the most. I did so many things for him cuz I held on this pedestal. I was very shocked by this feeling and kind of embarrassed. I wasn’t attracted to him sexually nor romantically, but I felt like I couldn’t be having this obsession if that wasn’t true. I was questioning if I really was gay. Later on, he met other guy friends, ones with actual things in common with him, and out of jealousy/fear he’d leave, I left him first.
Now since this event, I’ve realized the abandonment issues within the situation, but on top of that, I exposed the underlying reason for my obsession to be my own insecurity. I held him on this pedestal because he was everything I wish I was. I never explicitly had this thought when I met him. I never even knew I hated myself till I met him. I always said I was happy being different from other guys. The typical man only had hobbies that were athletic or lazing around in a gaming chair, missing these kinda attitudes is what made me feel left out, and that “masculinity” was something I was missing. I’m aware of toxic masculinity and know that I won’t change myself for others, but I felt like I had a lot of pent-up rage towards men in general for making me feel bad about myself as if I’m alone in this world because I’m nothing like them.
Having this realization helped me understand that I wasn’t loving myself enough. And I’ve known this for a while and THOUGHT I was working on it up until recently. I think I’ve started to hate myself more than ever and I never knew it.
I met a guy online this year (I use online chat rooms when I’m bored), and I ended up finding out he was bisexual and went to the same school as me. We started talking but the way we talked felt flirtatious. I’m straight but I do like flirting for fun even if I’m not attracted. I started to feel that the obsession I had with the first guy started to come up, but I must specify: I didn’t grow this obsession, it started right when I learned that he was athletic and on top of that an academic weapon with several hobbies. I started to want his attention more and was (as embarrassing as it is to admit), I wanted him to want me. I hated that feeling of validation that I craved, and I feel like it makes me an awful person wanting to seduce a bisexual man knowing I have no interest in being with him. But I felt obsessed with wanting that validation. Eventually, I realized I was doing too much and started pushing him away. But that feeling/craving for validation was still there, so I started to use someone else to fill in that gap.
I feel like it makes me an awful person just continuing on, but there’s this gay man in my club who I began to obsess with because I wanted to be a friend. And just like the last guy, I also wanted him to want me. But when I wondered “why him”, I realized that he had a very youthful look, and an innocent charm I feel like I used to have, he’s very popular in our club and known for being the “cute but shy” guy in our club.
Coming to look back at this history, I’ve found that validation is still something I crave due to my insecurity in my looks and personality. And this has been the saddest relaxation that pushed me to make this post. I thought I was happy, but I’ve started to feel myself grow emotionally numb, I don’t feel much that often, and in all honesty, when I see an attractive man it ruins my day. When I meet a guy who’s charming, it makes me upset. I hate that I think this way, and honestly I never actually caught this mindset until today. I didn’t know I hated myself that much because I didn’t actively nor explicitly put myself down. But I see that my head has been unconsciously just comparing myself to every man I see. I still stick by not wanting to change for anyone. But I wish I wasn’t me sometimes.
I wish I had looks I was more confident in. I wish I was more charming. I wish I was more “masculine”. I wish people were naturally attracted to me. I wish I was more popular. I wish I liked the things I’m supposed to like. And on that note, I wish there weren’t things I’m “supposed” to like. I wish I didn’t attach myself to people, because I always hoped their aura would just rub off on me. Like if I just was around them for long enough, then I can be more like them. I feel like a loser for saying that but there’s so many people I wish I could just be, and for that reason their attention is validation cause if they like me then maybe that could only prove that I’m just as good as them.
And yes, I know I need to practice self-love. But I seriously thought I was, I always leave time for myself, and buy myself gifts, and daily affirmations. But honestly while writing this all out, I think I see what it is. I wish people treated me better. I think I want people to see me the way I see them (but I don’t what that means) their aura? I think it’s just the charm overall.
I think the way people perceive these guys that I mentioned judge how they’re attracted to them. I just wish I had that compelling personality. I wish I could be a star, someone people look up to because I’m beautiful inside and out. And yes I know that loving myself is the major important and all that matters. But I wish that I could feel that important to people. That sounds really greedy saying it out loud, and maybe that does make me a bad person. But it hurts feeling worthless. What do I do when self-love isn’t enough? I don’t want to want others' validation, but it’s just how I feel. What do I do when I want more than I can ask for? How do I stop obsessing over people I wish I was? Self love doesn’t work for me, I need to know people want me. That sucks.
That’s all. Honestly, a huge thank you if you read this all and are willing to help. This has been something I’ve been struggling with practically my whole life and have only now been able to put into words. I’ll take advice please be as detailed as you’d like I need a major psycho-analysis and can’t afford a therapist ….

🔗Leupold Gold Ring 12-40x60mm HD Folded Light Path Spotting Scope

https://preview.redd.it/2v7w7gigo34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a8887ea0a1ec33298b6844bbcd933867019fbc8
I recently got my hands on the Leupold Gold Ring 12-40x60mm HD Spotting Scope, and I must say it's a game-changer! This little powerhouse boasts an Extra Low Dispersion Optical System, which maximizes color fidelity and contrast. It provides an incredible image across a wide field of view, all with best-in-class eye relief for easy viewing with or without eyeglasses.
One feature that really stood out for me was the Folded Light Path (FLP) system. Instead of using prisms, this system employs mirrors to compress a long optical path into half its length, making the scope incredibly compact and portable.
Another highlight is its magnesium housing. This lightweight material packs a serious punch when it comes to durability, making it ideal for rough outdoor conditions. And don't even get me started on the 100% waterproof and fog proof capabilities - this thing can brave any weather!
However, one issue I encountered was with the focus knob. It's extremely stiff and doesn't change smoothly as you adjust the magnification. It took me quite a few tries to get used to it. Additionally, there's no diopter adjustment, but the good eye relief somewhat compensates for that.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I've been thoroughly impressed by the Leupold Gold Ring HD Spotting Scope. Its top-notch optical performance combined with its rugged construction makes it a strong contender in the realm of spotting scopes. If you're in the market for one, this could be an excellent investment.

🔗TruGlo Crossbow Scope with Unisex Camo Design

https://preview.redd.it/d5ujr01ho34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99a9af21cfa130e89f2820b2653cde1301f95524
I've recently had the chance to try out the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope, a nifty piece of equipment for enthusiastic crossbow users like me. The scope's main highlight was its ability to find the range and calculate the correct trajectory for my crossbow bolts. In my experience, this feature proved to be quite handy in my local archery range, particularly for those days when the wind and temperature were unstable.
One of the things that stood out to me was the scope's robustness. It was designed to handle the harsh conditions of the outdoors, as evidenced by the sturdy aluminum body and the shock-resistant construction. This scope also offered a generous 4-inch eye relief, a feature that helped protect my eyes during those blustery hunting sessions.
The scope's lenses were fully-coated, making them highly resistant to glare, a common concern for crossbow users shooting in low-light conditions. Additionally, the durable leavespring for windage and elevation adjustments were a welcomed bonus, allowing me to finetune my shots with ease.
On the downside, one of the screws on the scope rings was stripped, a minor issue that wasn't a deal-breaker. I also discovered that the scope wasn't rated specifically for a particular crossbow speed. To achieve optimal accuracy, I had to adjust the scope manually, which was a bit tricky and time-consuming.
Regardless of these minor downsides, the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope proved to be an essential piece of equipment in my hunting arsenal. Its ease of use, durable construction, and helpful features make it an excellent choice for anyone seeking to upgrade their crossbow hunting experience.

🔗Revolutionary Ravin Xero X1i Integrated Crossbow Scope

https://preview.redd.it/a63avkeho34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6a1427991123efa897ef066624798c6b3f4522f
The Ravin Xero X1i Crossbow Scope by Garmin quickly became my go-to after its impressive features caught my eye. I've always had a bit of trouble getting the distance right when aiming with a crossbow, but with its built-in rangefinding and digital auto-ranging, it made everything so much easier. I loved the 3.5x magnification, which allowed me to spot my target without any hassle.
But the best part was definitely the Target Lock technology, which let me know when the scope was locked on a target with consistent readings. It made every shot feel like a guaranteed bullseye, and I'm really pleased with the accuracy it offered.
However, the scope was a bit heavy, and carrying it around for extended periods was quite tiring. Also, while the digital display was easy to read, the interface could've been a bit more user-friendly for faster adjustments. Overall, the Ravin Xero X1i is an impressive piece of technology that definitely gives me an edge in my hunting game.

🔗Swarovski ATS-65 HD 20-60x65mm Spotting Scope: Lightweight & Comfortable for Outdoor Observations

https://preview.redd.it/w1lnhtqho34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec13ba12620d74d3a8c2376cbf84364bec4b4722
When I received the Swarovski ATS-65 HD 20-60x65mm Spotting Scope, I was ecstatic to finally have my own to join fellow bird watchers on our adventures. The first thing I noticed about this scope was its user-friendly ergonomic design. It was comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver, even with glasses on.
One feature that stood out was its bright, high contrast view. The SWAROCLEAN non-stick lens coatings did an excellent job of minimizing color aberrations, ensuring the image was clear and vibrant. However, I did find that the scope could be a bit heavy for long observation periods.
When comparing it to other spotting scopes, the ATS-65 HD truly shined in terms of its edge-to-edge sharpness and color fidelity. It was lightweight and comfortable, making it perfect for long days outdoors. Overall, I would highly recommend this spotting scope to anyone looking for a versatile and high-quality tool for their outdoor adventures.

🔗Advanced 15-45x60 FDE T Series Scope with ED Prime Glass and Mil-Hash Reticle

https://preview.redd.it/81jmd3bio34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4eee283aa324bd37f4207abb33fc79035e2800bf
I've been using this Bushnell T spotting scope in my outdoor activities, and it's been quite the experience. The Mil-Hash reticle works seamlessly with the Mil-Base riflescope reticle, making zeroing a breeze. The scope has a heavy-duty, militaristic feel with a rubberized coating. The Picatinny rail mounts are a nice touch, and they're also compatible with a red dot sight for added accuracy.
The optical clarity is what one can expect at this price point, but it does the job well enough. The lens caps make it a breeze to protect the glass from dust, debris, and other environmental conditions. The only issue I had with the front lens cap is the lack of a lanyard attachment, making it easily misplaced.
The case, on the other hand, left me concerned about Bushnell's overall quality. The Velcro stitching on the lens flap failed on the first day, and the scope case seems too small for the scope. The magnification setting ring could use some improvement as well, but overall, it's an acceptable addition.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the scope has proven to be durable and holds up well under rough outdoor conditions. Its compact design and easy-to-handle eyepiece make it a top choice for avid spotters. With a solid construction, good image quality, and an attractive price point, this Bushnell T series spotting scope is worth considering for your next outdoor adventure.

🔗UHD Spotting Scope with Apochromatic Lens System and Advanced Fully Multi-Coated Lenses

https://preview.redd.it/2lgb92nio34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4dc031a27faacc5b16ca564bee0c54e1e265a1d
In the world of optics, the Athlon Optics Ares G2 UHD 20-60x85 Straight Spotting Scope has made a name for itself. It's not just for the birders spotting variances in plumage from far away or for the precision shooters who aim for targets at 1,000 yards, the scope's extra-low dispersion glass provides vivid clarity and resolution in a full-size spotting scope.
Athlon has cleverly designed it to be lightweight although strong, making it comfortable to carry and use for long periods. The aluminum alloy chassis adds to its strength without making it too heavy. With its twist-up eye-cup, it allows you to set the eyecup to the perfect eye relief for your eyes, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience.
Its ESP Dielectric Coating gives you an advantage in viewing with an image that has little or no chromatic fringe for the clearest and sharpest image. The UHD Glass in the lens helps in converging refracting colors into one focus point, producing greater contrast, sharpness, and color definition.
Reflecting over 99% of the light to your eyes, the scope brings you a clear, bright image and accurate color reproduction, thanks to the BaK4 Prisms coupled with advanced fully multi-coated lenses. It produces perfect brightness and color across the entire light spectrum, making viewing under different lighting conditions a breeze.
And when it comes to durability, the scope doesn't disappoint. It comes with an extra protective layer coating that keeps the exterior of the lens free from dirt and scratches. It's also Argon Purged and Waterproof, ensuring weatherproof performance even in harsh conditions. Purging allows for better waterproofing/fogging, making sure your scope doesn't fog up when you switch environments.
Overall, it's a joy to use this spotting scope. It's not just about viewing in high detail but also the ease it offers in using it. You won't be disappointed with its performance and features.

🔗Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope - Angled, 30-60x85, 10.8ft MFD, 15.6in L

I recently had the chance to test out the Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope, and I must say, it's quite the remarkable piece of equipment. The first thing that stood out to me was its lightweight magnesium alloy housing, which made it easy to pack and carry on my outdoor adventures. I've used several spotting scopes in the past, but this one felt noticeably more comfortable to hold and maneuver.
One of the most impressive features of this scope is its impressive magnification and objective lens, which made distant objects seem as if they were right in front of me. I was particularly impressed with the sharpness and clarity of the image, even in low light conditions. The use of ZEISS' iconic T anti-reflection multi-coatings and LotuTec hydrophobic exterior lens coatings really made a difference when observing wildlife up close.
The eyepiece's 45° angle to the optical tube and adjustable tripod collar allowed for comfortable viewing in various positions, making it a great choice for those who enjoy hunting or birdwatching from different vantage points. I also appreciated the easy manipulation of the focus collar and zoom wheel, which made it simple to make adjustments without taking my eyes off the scope.
One thing that caught my attention was the scope's waterproof and fog-proof design. It was reassuring to know that I could use it in various weather conditions without worrying about damage to the optics. The universal tripod mount was also a great feature, as it allowed me to easily attach the scope to a variety of tripods I already had on hand.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks I noticed during my time with the Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope. Firstly, the price point might be a bit steep for some users who are looking for a more budget-friendly option. Additionally, while the scope excelled in most aspects, it did struggle with chromatic aberration, which was noticeable in some images.
Overall, the Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope delivered a fantastic, immersive viewing experience. Its high-quality optics, comfortable design, and reliable performance make it a top contender for anyone in the market for a premium spotting scope.

🔗Athlon Argos 20-60x85 HD Straight Angle Spotting Scope: High Quality, Durable, and Waterproof Optical Scope

I've been using the Athlon Argos 20-60x85 HD Straight Angle Spotting Scope for a few weeks now, and I have to admit, it has been a game-changer for my hunting adventures. The quality of the optics is impressive, with the high-grade Argon gas providing excellent fog-proof capabilities and the BaK4 Prisms reflecting more light to my eyes for a sharper, brighter image.
One feature that has particularly stood out to me is the strength and lightweight nature of the composite chassis, which is protected by rubber armor and filled with nitrogen gas for added durability and waterproofing. This spotting scope also comes with a soft case that allows you to mount it on a tripod and use it with the case on, which is a convenient and practical touch.
However, there have been a few minor drawbacks in my experience. Adjusting the eyecup to the perfect eye relief for my eyes can be a bit tricky, and the low thermal conductivity of the Argon gas can sometimes make it a little difficult to get to the optimal focus.
Despite these minor issues, the Athlon Argos 20-60x85 HD Straight Angle Spotting Scope has been an excellent addition to my hunting gear. It offers a great balance of quality and affordability, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to level up their target sighting and bird watching experiences.

🔗High-Quality Argon Optics Argos HD Spotting Scope with Advanced Multi-Coated Lenses and Durable Rubber Armor

The Athlon Optics Argos HD 20-60x85 spotting scope captured my attention with its high-grade Argon gas and BaK4 Prisms, which deliver a fog-free experience and impressive image clarity. I was particularly impressed with the advanced fully multi-coated lenses that reflect more light, giving me sharper and brighter images. The composite chassis not only provides strength but is also much lighter than I had anticipated.
One feature that stood out in my experience was the twist-up eye-cup, allowing me to easily adjust the eye relief to suit my own comfort. In addition, the argon purged and waterproof design provided an added layer of protection during my outdoor adventures.
While I was largely satisfied with this spotting scope, I did encounter a couple of downsides. Occasionally, the image seemed slightly blurry when zoomed in at max power, though this was less of an issue overall. Additionally, some users reported difficulties with perfect focus, a challenge I experienced myself but found manageable with some adjustment.
Overall, I believe the Athlon Optics Argos HD spotting scope offers a solid balance of performance and affordability, making it a worthwhile choice for outdoor enthusiasts seeking quality optics without breaking the bank.

However, I did notice that the scope might be a bit bulky for some beginners, as it weighs around 40 oz. However, its overall performance and the smoothness of its single focus wheel make up for that setback.

As an avid birdwatcher, I've been using the Vortex Razor HD 13-39x56 Spotting Scope for a while now, and it's been nothing short of remarkable. The compact design makes it super convenient to carry around, and I love how lightweight it feels. It's so effortless to switch between different magnification levels, giving me that extra edge when I need to zoom in on a specific bird. I also appreciate the ergonomic shape of the eyepiece, making it comfortable to use for extended periods.
However, the one downside I've noticed is the slight difficulty in focusing. Sometimes, it takes a bit of finesse to get the image looking razor-sharp, but once you've got it sorted, it's smooth sailing from there.

One of the first things that caught my attention was its adjustable rotating ring, which allowed me to position the scope in the most comfortable angle for observation. This gave me a sense of control and comfort while I was out in the wild.
However, one aspect that could have been improved was the tripod, which felt a bit flimsy. But thankfully, I was able to replace it with a more robust one as per my preference.
Despite its minor drawbacks, the Athlon Talos Spotting Scope has been a reliable companion on my hunting expeditions. It has provided me with clear, bright images, allowing me to make accurate shots and successfully bag my targets. Buyer's Guide

When it comes to choosing the right ACOG scope, there are several factors you should consider. In this buyer's guide, we'll discuss the general features, considerations, and advice to help you make an informed decision.

Why choose ACOG scopes?

ACOG scopes are known for their durability, reliability, and exceptional optical clarity. These high-quality tactical scopes are perfect for hunting, law enforcement, military operations, and serious shooting enthusiasts. They offer a wide range of magnification options, adjustable turret settings, and a variety of reticle styles to suit different shooting scenarios.

https://preview.redd.it/rtfkqq9oo34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5914d0818982dc4a4a6723345a3d6de4bc7fc1dc

Magnification

Magnification is a crucial factor when selecting an ACOG scope. These scopes typically offer varying magnification options, from 2x to 12x or even higher. Consider the type of shooting you'll be doing and the distance at which you'll be engaging targets. If you plan to take long-range shots or compete in precision shooting events, you may want to opt for a higher magnification range. On the other hand, if you're primarily focused on close-range shooting or engaging targets at short distances, a lower magnification range may be more suitable.

Reticle style

ACOG scopes offer a variety of reticle styles to suit different shooting needs. Some common reticle styles include the T2 MOA, T1 MOA, T3 MOA, and the SCR (Sniper Combat Rifle) reticle. Each reticle has its unique features and benefits. For example, the T1 is popular among long-range precision shooters due to its accurate and fine crosshairs, while the T2 has a more dense post that provides accurate ranging and holdover values. It's essential to choose a reticle that aligns with your shooting skills and preferred shooting style.

Brightness and light transmission

Another important factor to consider is the brightness and light transmission capabilities of the ACOG scope. High-quality scopes often feature multi-coated lenses that enhance light transmission and improve overall image brightness. This is particularly important when shooting in low-light conditions or during twilight hours. To ensure maximum visibility, consider a scope with an adjustable brightness setting that allows you to fine-tune the reticle illumination to your preference.

https://preview.redd.it/p8nf7hnoo34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d38f8abeb4ab54fa362568a24b09faf074429854

Construction and durability

ACOG scopes are known for their high durability and rugged construction, making them ideal for harsh outdoor environments. They are typically built with aircraft-grade aluminum and feature waterproof, shockproof, and fog-resistant design to ensure long-lasting performance.

Mount type

When selecting your ACOG scope, consider the type of mount you'll need. Some popular mount options include the ACOG quick detach, ACOG low mount, and ACOG high mount. The choice of mount will depend on the specific firearm and shooting scenario. Most ACOG scopes come with mounting hardware, but it's essential to ensure compatibility before purchasing.

Maintenance and care

To ensure the longevity of your ACOG scope, it's crucial to follow proper maintenance and care guidelines. Regularly clean your scope with a high-quality optic cleaning solution, and store it in a secure case to protect it from dirt, dust, and potential damage. Additionally, avoid exposing your scope to extreme temperatures, as this can affect its performance and longevity.
By considering these key factors, you'll be well-equipped to select the perfect ACOG scope for your specific needs and shooting requirements. Happy hunting!

2024.06.02 08:13 KiaraKawaii Guide: How to play FIRST STRIKE Nami

TLDR enclosed for each section directly under their respective subheading in bolded font

1. CONTENTS

Having originally posted this on NamiMains, I have come forth with a rune page that has been rising in popularity on enchanters: First Strike. Not only is this applicable on Nami, but on a lot of other enchanters who have decent range
The following guide has been split into these sections: - 1. CONTENTS - 2. Credentials - 3. So how/why does it work? - 4. ITEMS - 5. RUNES - 6. Core Mechanics of Nami W - 7. Final Words
Due to the length and detail of this guide, I can understand if some fishies don't wish to read everything. In which case, I have included TLDRs in this post. For ease of access, here are some formatting guidelines for the TLDRs of this post:
The following guide has been split into sections for easier navigation, if u are in a hurry for a specific section, scroll down to find the specific subheading that u need. Each explanation is also lengthy, but if u want a brief TLDR of each section, it will be enclosed for each section directly under their respective subheading in bolded font

2. Credentials

I know that some people really care about credentials, so I am leaving this here. Feel free to skip this section and jump straight into the content if it does not concern u
I am a Master tier enchanter main with over 2.8mil points on Nami. I am by no means a perfect player, I still make mistakes and have plenty of areas to improve on
So, please note that the following information serves as a recommendation and general guideline. It was compiled based off of my own personal experience. Said information is not concrete, nor is it a law that you must follow. You are entitled to your own preferences, playstyles, and opinions, which may differ from mine. My only intent here is to share information that some players may find helpful

3. So how/why does it work?

TLDR (for this section): - Take First Strike vs matchups you outrange - Nami E on allies procs First Strike - The new Jack of All Trades rune should be utilised (see below for how)
Before I get into the specific build, I first need to explain how and why this whole setup works. First Strike is mostly taken as a gold-accelerating rune vs matchups that u outrange, ensuring that u get the "first strike" onto enemies consistently. With the changes to First Strike giving more base gold on the initial hit and less gold on subsequent hits compared to before, it pairs really well with a lot of enchanters' poke patterns. Usually, we have one poke spell and not much followup. The current First Strike matches this poke pattern perfectly (think Nami W, Sona E, Seraphine passive-empowered autos etc), allowing us to get an extra 15g per proc on top of our support item gold
On Nami specifically, we have an additional way to proc First Strike, since Nami E on allies actually procs First Strike! The best part of this interaction is that ur ally can be hit by enemies with ur E buff, but bc it wasn't you being hit directly, u will still retain the First Strike bonuses if ur ally hits enemies back with ur E buff despite being hit first! A common issue raised with this point is "what if my ADC is bad and doesn't use my E buff?" Don't worry, I got u covered too! So, whenever u empower an auto or ability that is still travelling middair towards the enemy, if u E urself or ur ally during said auto/ability, the slow and bonus dmg from E will still apply on impact. So, if u notice that ur ADC has cast an auto or ability onto the enemy, try to E them while this auto/ability is still travelling towards the enemy. Not only will this maximise E duration, give enemies minimal time to react to the slow and extra dmg, but it will also ensure that u proc First Strike due to E buff, as well as Manaflow Band and other item effects
This also works on ur own autos and abilities, and chaining abilities tgt like this will also help to cancel Nami's lengthy spell animation for more efficient trade patterns, hence better First Strike usage. Since W is our most consistent poke ability, we ideally want to start with this ability when trying to proc First Strike. This differs slightly from the regular Aery setup where we want to auto -> E ourself while our auto is still middair travelling towards enemy -> W enemy -> bubble/ult or let the bounceback heal retaliate enemy dmg. Instead, we want to W -> E ourselves while W is still middair travelling towards the enemy -> auto -> disengage with bounceback heal or bubble/ult. Additional tip: If you hover over Nami's W, you may notice multiple rings. The outer ring indicates Nami's W range when self-cast, meaning that the ability has a slightly longer range when you cast it on yourself bouncing towards an enemy (25 more range) rather than casting it on an ally to bounce or straight onto an enemy. So if u ever need to W urself first, or need just a bit of extra range, make sure to utilise this. To execute this most effectively, I recommend using alt+W for self-cast
I'm able to come out of lane with 300-400 gold fairly consistently. Pair this with free boots or Cash Back, and u can essentially double this amount of gold. Since enchanters tend to be quite item-reliant, having this extra gold generation allows us to reach our item spikes a lot faster, further increasing the snowball potential

3.1. Jack of All Trades

Supports are actually able to utilise the new Jack of All Trades rune surprisingly well. Our support item alone already covers 3 of the 10 stats required. Here are the list of stats that we will generally be able to obtain on supports: - AP - HP - Health Regen - Mana Regen - Haste - Movespeed - %Movespeed - Heal/Shield Power - Armor - Magic Resist - Mana (?) - Magic Pen (?)
In order to get these stats, we will need our support item which gives HP, health regen, and mana regen. Most items will cover the haste component. Boots for the movespeed stat. Ardent will give us the %movespeed as well as heal/shield power. But if we don't need Ardent, then we can split this into any other heal/shield power item + Shurelya's. Armor + magic resist can be optained from Locket or Wardstone. Alternatively, if we don't need armor + magic resist, we can instead trade these stats for magic pen + mana instead (will also explain this in further detail below)
As you can see, the items required for Jack are situational items. It is important to identify during champ select if said items, particularly Ardent/Shurelya's + Locket/Wardstone, will be built for this game. Altho, these items will be applicable in most situations anyway
If u don't need these items for that particular game, or if u don't feel like u'll be able to reach all these stats for whatever reason, then Cosmic Insight is always a great staple. Lower summ cds for lower Flash and Heal cds, notoriously long-cd spells, as well as item haste. Item haste works on non-active item cds such as Dream MakeCelestial/Solstice/Zaz'Zak's cds, Mandate mark cds, as well as lowering trinket cd etc.

4. ITEMS

TLDR (for this section): - Skip paragraphs to see builds under their respective subheadings (4.1. Defensive Build and 4.2. AP Build) below - Each individual dot point reperesents one individual item slot
Alright, now that all the theory work is out of the way, we can finally move onto the specific build (what everyone is here for). There are two main builds to go about this. Each individual dot point reperesents one individual item slot:

4.1. Defensive Build

This build is run in situations where u need the defensive stats from Locket or Wardstone vs harder comps or matchups, with Locket being particularly good vs AoE and/or burst dmg. This build will also cover all the stats from Jack of All Trades (see list from previous section)
Ardent is the most efficient item for Jack due to it providing mana regen, heal/shield power, and %movespeed, all in one item. This will free up an extra item slot where we can buy a situational item, like antiheal, or if it's not needed then Dark Seal into Mejai's is always a great alternative for cheap AP (Nami has good AP ratios), or any other alternative item that u may need. Just make sure to buy Ardent before this situational item in order to max out Jack
However, it may not always be an Ardent game. In situations where it isn't an Ardent game (non-autoattack-reliant comps), u will need to split the %movespeed and heal/shield power stats into 2 separate items. Typically, Shurelya's + any other Forbidden Idol item will cover this. You can also go for any other item that gives %movespeed, but I find Shurelya's the most consistent. The main downside is ofc, the build being quite rigid if u go for this option (no room for antiheal or other situational items)

4.2. AP Build

This is a more AP-focused build in situations where u don't need to be so defensive. We omitted the armor and magic resist from Locket/Wardstone for mana (Archangel's) and magic pen (Sorc Shoes). Nami E on allies uses her own magic pen, hence Sorc Shoes here

5. RUNES

TLDR:
The more specifics to optimise ur runes to their respective builds:

5.1. Runes for Defensive Build

Omitted free boots for Cash Back. Since this is for the defensive build, we will need to rush Lucidity boots vs hard matchups. Not only are Lucidity boots a cheaper option so it gives a faster spike in movespeed vs skillshot-heavy lanes, the lower Flash cd will be good vs engage lanes. Jack vs Cosmic has been explained in previous sections
Manaflow + Transcendence is default. For in-depth explanation:
Manaflow is essential for defensive build. Only go Absolute Focus in situations where enemies lack poke, allowing u to maintain the HP threshold for the AP. Transcendence is a good default, when unsure u can always default to this due to Nami's long cds. Pair both these with double adaptive minor shards option. Celerity if u need the movespeed vs heavy-skillshot comps (pair this with the 2% movespeed minor shard option)
I personally don't recommend Scorch with the First Strike setup due to the scaling nature of this build. However, Scorch is typically good with early-game ADCs or matchups where u have early pressure. Scorch also barely adds any bonuses to First Strike, especially as the game progresses. Avoid Scorch if enemies have sustain, as they can easily outheal or outshield that bit of Scorch dmg. When unsure, or in any other situation, go Gathering Storm

5.2. Runes for AP Build

Due to the more expensive nature and higher scaling potential of this build, go free boots so that u can focus on rushing items. Since we go Archangel's with this build, we won't need Manaflow. For maximum scaling, I recommend Absolute Focus + Gathering Storm (also the greediest option). Otherwise, Transcendence as explained prior

6. Core Mechanics of Nami W

TLDR (for this section): - More than 100AP -> subsequent bounces heal/dmg MORE - Less than 100AP -> subsequent bounces heal/dmg LESS
Smth absolutely crucial to these First Strike builds, as well as any other AP Nami builds, is understanding her W bounce mechanic. I often get asked why AP Nami, so I will just include this section here as well. For the fellow fishies who already about this, please feel free to skip this section
The reason why AP Nami is a thing is bc of the way her W scaling works to begin with. We unironically heal more with AP builds than enchanter builds. Allow me to explain:
Patch 14.6: 'The damage and healing value is modified by *-15% (+7.5% per 100AP)** each bounce.'*
Patch 14.7: 'The damage and healing value is modified by *-10% (+10% per 100AP)** each bounce.'*
Before I explain how to get crazy heal/dmg numbers on Nami's W bounces, I first need to explain her unique scaling on W. Unlike most other enchanters who benefit from heal/shield power, Nami's W has a unique scaling where subsequent bounces become weaker pre-100AP, and become stronger post-100AP. This threshold was at 200AP before the most recent changes on her, so they buffed it significantly by lowering the threshold down to only requiring 100AP instead of 200, making AP builds even more potent now in terms of healing and dmg. As such, Nami benefits more from stacking AP than heal/shield power
To give some perspective, previously if I had 200AP my W bounces would be equally as strong as each subsequent bounce. However, with these changes, with 200AP our W is now amped by 10%, and will continue amping by 10% for every 100AP. Getting 400AP on AP Nami builds is very doable with the right setup, buffing our subsequent bounces by 30% per bounce. This means our second bounce will be 30% stronger than the first, and our third bounce will be 60% stronger than the first bounce, which does not need further explaining as to why this is absolutely obnoxious when it comes to dmg and healing values
These changes also mean that a lot of Nami players will need to learn to prioritise their bounces according to what they need. Before, some enchanter builds struggled to reach the 200AP threshold, so we could just autopilot the first bounce without giving it much thought. Now, bounce prioritisation will actually become a prominent part of her kit
To explain how to alternate W effectively with an example, if my primary target (the one I want to dmg/heal the most) is A and my secondary target (less priority target) is B, then I will alternate my W bounces as follows:
And ofc, if u have Mandate then make sure to use E before W to ensure ur W bounces do even more dmg and proc Mandate c:

7. Final Words

I really hope this helps out some fellow supports. This build can be a bit difficult to grasp at first, and will take some time to learn and get used to. But always rmb that when unsure u can always go back to Aery as it will always remain the most consistent option overall
I'm also aware that First Strike is being nerfed next patch from 15g -> 10g. Personally, I think it could still be situationally good. Also, I apologise for any typos that may have been made, as the post was quite lengthy (so I may have missed some typos while proofreading)
This is also my first time making a post to this this degree of length and detail, so if there are any formatting errors or discomforts, please feel free to leave feedback below for me to improve on! For those who stayed til the end, I genuinely want to thank u and appreciate ur time and support 🥺🩷🩷
**Disclaimer:* In order to avoid unnecessary conflicts and misunderstandings, please note that the above information serves as a recommendation and general guideline intended to explain the phenomena. It is based off of my own personal experience, as well as research of other players. Thus, said information is by no means perfect, nor is it a law that you must follow. You are entitled to your own preferences, playstyles, and opinions, which may differ from mine* ®

2024.06.02 08:13 attracdev Writing a Rust Library for Moschitta-Core: Enhancing Performance and Safety

Introduction

The Moschitta Framework is a cutting-edge, modular, and asynchronous Python framework designed for modern application development². While Python is great for rapid development, certain performance-critical components can benefit from Rust's memory safety, concurrency, and low-level control. In this guide, we'll explore how to create a Rust library that complements the moschitta-core module.

Why Rust?

Creating the Rust Library

Step 1: Set Up Your Rust Project

  1. Install Rust by following the instructions on the official Rust website.
  2. Create a new Rust project: bash cargo new moschitta_rust_lib cd moschitta_rust_lib

Step 2: Define Structs

In Rust, we'll use structs to create custom data types. These will serve as the basis for our functions. Let's define some example structs:
```rust // src/lib.rs
pub struct AuthService { secret_key: String, }
impl AuthService { pub fn new(secret_key: &str) -> Self { Self { secret_key: secret_key.to_string(), } }
pub fn start(&self) { println!("AuthService started with secret key: {}", self.secret_key); } pub fn stop(&self) { println!("AuthService stopped"); }
}
pub struct JwtUtils { // Add fields relevant to JWT handling }
impl JwtUtils { pub fn generate_token(&self, user_id: u64) -> String { // Implement JWT token generation logic // ... "sample_token".to_string() } } ```
Step 3: Implement Functions
  1. AuthService:
    • new(secret_key: &str): Creates a new AuthService instance.
    • start(): Starts the authentication service.
    • stop(): Stops the authentication service.
  2. JwtUtils:
    • generate_token(user_id: u64) -> String: Generates a JWT token for a given user ID.
Step 4: Build and Test
  1. Build your Rust library: bash cargo build
  2. Write tests for your functions in the tests directory.
Step 5: Python Bindings
To use your Rust library in Python, create Python bindings using the pyo3 crate. Add the following to your Cargo.toml:
toml [dependencies] pyo3 = { version = "0.15", features = ["extension-module"] }
Then, create a Python module in src/lib.rs:
```rust // src/lib.rs
use pyo3::prelude::*;

[pymodule]

fn moschitta_rust_lib(_py: Python, m: &PyModule) -> PyResult<()> { m.add_class::()?; m.add_class::()?; Ok(()) } ```

Step 6: Use in Python

  1. Build your Python extension module: bash cargo build --release
  2. Import your Rust library in Python: ```python import moschitta_rust_lib
    auth_service = moschitta_rust_lib.AuthService("my_secret_key") auth_service.start() ```

Conclusion

By integrating Rust into the Moschitta Framework, the framework can achieve better performance, memory safety, and concurrency.
Feel free to customize the Rust structs and functions according to your specific needs. Remember to adapt the examples to the actual functionality you want to implement.
Note: This post assumes basic familiarity with Rust and Python. If you're new to Rust, check out the official Rust book.

2024.06.02 08:12 StockPlaying260 Need Help with Horizon Worlds Scripting for Interactive Game😭😭

Hey everyone,
I'm working on a project in Horizon Worlds and thought scripting this would be simple, but I'm running into issues. I need to create an interactive game where a pattern appears when the game starts, and the player picks one of two blocks to identify what the pattern is. Depending on their choice, they either gain or lose points, and a visual effect is triggered to indicate correctness.
Here's what I'm trying to do:
Any detailed guidance or example scripts would be really appreciated. I know this is probably basic for some of you, so if you can showcase your scripting skills, that'd be awesome!
Thanks in advance!

2024.06.02 08:12 UdayG11 (Manager Career) Need help with joining different clubs.

Hi, I've been managing Chelsea for two years iin my FC24 save and went invincible with them. I want to join a smaller club and take them to the prem again (Watford as an example) but it is near impossible to get job offers from any league except the 5 main leagues. does anyone know of any way to join any club you want without having to start a new career mode (I want to stay in the same timeline as I did with Chelsea)? Thank you!

2024.06.02 08:11 Ceramic_Boi The Blank 2

[Next]:
Part 2 The child.
Previous[Next]
“Uhm. I’m not sure what you mean, kid. I don’t know who your parents are.”
“C’mon! I watched you come out of that crypt! Maybe if I tell you their names it’ll spark your memory! My dad’s name was James Luceniel, and my mother’s was Talma Luceniel. Don’t you remember them?”
Internally, I groan. I never caught the name of that female elf, but one of the males was definitely named James. I can’t have this ten-year-old just wander into that crypt and find one of her parents brutalized by some monster. I need a distraction.
I notice the faint grip of the child release, and she backs away. I can see the blood from my robe mixing with the dirt already caught in her dress.
“Oh. I never thought you could get dirty, Mr. Reaper! I guess it makes sense given who you are, but the thought never crossed my mind! Would you like some help cleaning your cloak before you take me to see my parents?”
“Oh. Sure,” I say, confused and perturbed by this child’s readiness to just help a bloodstained stranger.
“We’ll get you all nice and cleaned up Mr. Reaper. Then you can help me!” She says as she begins leading me out of the graveyard.
“So, why do you keep calling me ‘Mr. Reaper’?”
“Because that’s what we’ve always called you. Is that wrong?”
“Yes. That’s not my name. My name is… Uhm…”
“Go on, I’d love to call you by your actual name! I didn’t realize I’d been using the wrong one!”
“I… Huh. I can’t remember.”
As we step out into the town proper, I can’t help but think that it looks terrible. Most of the buildings have collapsed, and the few buildings left standing are massively overgrown with various climbing plants. There aren’t many people in the street either.
“That’s okay. I’m sure you’ll remember eventually. You might want to turn down this alley though. People probably won’t like seeing you out in the middle of the street.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
As she leads me through the back alleys, I can’t help but stare at some of the cobblestone buildings we pass. I notice that where the stones would normally be held together with mortar, there are thick, dark green vines binding the stones together. It almost looks like the vines are moving. Yet, despite the strangeness of their construction, I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve been here before. Everything seems so eerily familiar, yet nothing concrete. Hesitantly, I ask, “So, what is the story of this place? I thought elves mostly stuck to treetop fortresses. Never knew you guys to build with stone.”
“Oh. Well, we didn’t build this place. We moved in a very long time ago. The Ancient Oak told me that the village was made by some creatures called ‘Hai-oo-mans.’ I don’t really know what those are, but apparently, they were really, really good at building stuff. I guess they all died off at some point. Don’t really know how, but when the Beastkin decided they were gonna fight us and we ran away, the Ancient Oak knew about this place and helped us move in and rebuild a bit.”
Hai-oo-mans… Does she mean Humans?
“Wait. You don’t know what humans are?”
“Not really. Why? Are there a lot of them where you’re from?”
“I mean… yeah?”
“Oh. Was it a lot of work for you when they died? I bet it was, Mr. Reaper.”
There she goes again with that moniker.
“I don’t think I ever asked your name, kid. What is it?”
“Oh. Sorry. I had assumed you already knew it. I’m Namaski! Namaski Luceniel. May I ask you another question?”
“Sure.”
“How did my parents die.”
Shit. Oh shit. Shit. Fuck. Shit. Shit. How’d she find out!
“What do you mean?” I ask, begging this to be some massive misunderstanding.
“I’m not sure how else to phrase it. I watched my mom and dad be set in the ground when I was fifteen. Nobody really explained it to me at the time, and people still refuse to tell me what exactly happened.”
“When you were fifteen?”
“Yeah. That would’ve been… six years ago.”
Oh thank Toyl. Wait… “You barely look ten years old!”
“Excuse me? I am not a toddler.”
“Toddler? At ten? I know I never interacted with elves much, but by Toyl you people take forever to develop.”
“Toyl? I don’t think I’ve heard of that god. Is he some sort of death god?”
“Death god? Why would… No. She’s my god.”
“How can she be your god, but not a death god, Mr. Reaper?”
“Why do you think I would worship a death god?”
“Worship? I thought you were the Grim Reaper. You know… Faithful servant and manifested embodiment of Death. Seemed pretty clear from your frame and complexion why some people thought you were a skeleton.”
“No. I’m… I’m just a human.”
“Oh. I get it. This is some weird death joke. You might want to work on that sense of humor of yours, Mr. Reaper. Anyway, we’re here!”
“It’s not… Whatever.”
What stands before us is quite possibly the shoddiest house in the entire town. I stand outside of the doorframe for almost a full minute wondering how the building hasn’t collapsed yet.
“Feel free to come in whenever you feel like it!”
Right. “I’m coming in!” I shout as I step through the doorframe.
Immediately, a wad of items is shoved into my arms.
“Sorry, I don’t have a tub, but here’s a towel, washrag, and some soap. There’s a secret section of the river just a few hundred meters out the back door. Also, there’s a set of my dad’s old clothes in there. I think they might fit you. Once you’re done, I’ll take those rags you’re wearing and clean them. Maybe try mending some of the tears too.”
“Thanks, but you really don’t have to do all of that.”
“It’s no problem! I like helping!”
Maybe I should just leave all this stuff just outside the door. Sneak away before she notices. I really don’t want to take advantage of some poor kid. Besides, what am I gonna do when her aunt, uncle, grandparent, or whoever is taking care of her shows up? It’s best that I just leave now.
But… For some reason, I don’t want to.
“What’s the matter, Mr. Reaper?” She pouts. “Is it not good enough? I’m sorry! I can get better soap! Soap that actually smells nice if that’s what you want! Or is it my dad’s clothes? Are they not your style? Why do you look so sad? What can I do better?”
“Please, calm down.”
“I’m calm! I promise!”
“It’s just that I don’t want to impose on you, and also I’m pretty sure your grandmother or aunt or whoever probably doesn’t want you inviting a stranger into your house and giving them your things.”
“You don’t have to worry about that! I’m the matron of this household! The only person I have to listen to is The Ancient Oak! Besides, you aren’t taking advantage of me! I offered!”
“But-”
“No buts! Now get yours in that river and start scrubbing,” she shouts as she begins to try and shove me out of the back door.
With a small chuckle, I let out a “Yes Ma’am.” and allow her to push me out of the door.
What a weird kid. She seems like a good one though. If only she wasn’t so trusting.
Previous[Next]
Author’s Note: Sorry for the long delay! Apparently all it took was a tornado ripping through my house to get me motivated again! Don’t worry, everyone is fine, and this is a nice distraction from the destruction. As always, thanks for reading, and I hope to see y’all again.
P.S. Feel free to join my Discord server here for stuff like shoddy character drawings and periodic updates!

2024.06.02 08:11 PositiveBusiness8677 Emacs best on a full-sized keyboard ?

hi all,
I am trying to learn Lisp, and since most of the tutorials seem to use Emacs, I am learning Emacs at the same time.
Now, I have a 60% keyboard, and I was wondering whether I should move to a full-sized keyboard to use Emacs more easily?
for example, the very first example in the Portacle tutorial requires typing ~ three times, which on a 60% keyboard is Fn-S-~ , so it is a bit of gymnastics. (Portacle is a packaged installation of Common Lisp with Emacs)
Thank you for any advice

2024.06.02 08:09 KrispyKayak Reminder: This is /r/AskChicago! All questions about visiting, moving to, or living in Chicago are welcome here. Please only downvote questions if they break the rules.

Welcome to /AskChicago! This is a subreddit for asking and answering questions pertaining to the city of Chicago, Illinois, USA. This subreddit exists as an alternative to the Weekly Questions thread in /chicago, for those who want to ask questions outside of that thread’s comments section.
As /AskChicago has continued to see increased activity, I thought it would be helpful to reiterate our subreddit rules and purpose, as well as to provide some tips for asking a successful question in this subreddit.

Rules

We allow all kinds of questions related to Chicago, but we do have a few basic rules:
  1. All posts must be a question related to Chicago - Questions should be asked in good faith. This is not the place to post rants or opinions disguised as questions (e.g. “does anyone else think the mayor sucks?”, etc.) but to ask questions about visiting, moving to, or living in Chicago.
  2. Be civil - hate speech, unnecessarily hostile comments, spam, and troll posts are not allowed and may result in a ban.
  3. Don’t break the law - Do not post anything illegal (such as posts buying/selling illegal drugs, fake IDs, etc.). Posting this kind of content may result in a ban.
In addition to these rules,
  • Posts looking for roommates or housing should go in /ChicagoApartments or /ChicagoList. It’s OK to post questions about moving to Chicago in /AskChicago, and mentioning that you are looking for a roommate is OK, but questions like “Does anyone want to be my roommate?” are not allowed here.
  • Posts looking to buy or sell things should go in /ChicagoList. Questions like “does anyone here want to buy my concert tickets?” are not allowed in /AskChicago.
  • /Chicago is another great resource for finding out information about the city. Be sure to check out the /Chicago Wiki - it has a lot of great information about things to do in the city, neighborhood information, and other useful links. The Weekly Casual Conversation & Questions Thread, stickied at the top of /chicago, is another great place to ask questions about the city; it gets a lot of traffic as well.

Tips on asking questions in /AskChicago

Outside of the rules listed above, we do not have any enforced rules regarding question structure. However, there are some best practices that we encourage you to follow in order to ask an engaging question that gets lots of responses:
  • Use a descriptive title - Titles like “visiting Chicago” or “help!” are not descriptive. Instead, try to summarize your question in a brief phrase, such as “Visiting Chicago next month, is my itinerary for a five-day trip realistic?” or “Help understanding how to pay my toll fees”. We won’t remove questions that use vague titles, but you probably won’t get as many replies as a well-worded question would.
  • Provide details - For best results, include relevant details in your question. For example, if you are asking a question looking for things to do while visiting Chicago, include information like what your interests are, length of stay, food specifics, budget, and so on. This will help people to provide better answers to your question.
  • Google is your friend - A lot of general questions about life in Chicago have been answered elsewhere, including in this subreddit and in /chicago. We encourage you to search for the answer to your question yourself before asking here. If you have follow-up questions after searching, feel free to ask them here. (e.g. instead of asking “best pizza restaurants downtown”, consider asking “Gino’s East or Pizzeria Uno - which do you prefer, and why?”

2024.06.02 08:08 Ok-Driver7647 [SP] The Fuckening

[Somewhere is a dark room. The room is empty with the exception of a tv in the corner. The tv comes on. It’s the news]
Ok-Driver7647 smiling: Good evening viewers. I come to you LIVE from small town L******. A town that has had many experiences over the years and in the most recent, is a source of unfortunate events. We are here today at Ground Zero to report the lack of anything unfortunate at all. Something which the locals have got used to and are finding quite strange. The peace is leaving mixed feelings of both relief and unease. Is it the Fuckening? Let’s hear from some of them ourselves.
approaches a villager leaning against a wall
OK-Driver7647: Hi! I’m reporting from WTFisdzBS NEWS about the Fuckening. Mind if I ask you some questions?
Villager: Uh.. yeh sure.
Ok-Driver7647: So I heard about the Fuckening. What’s been going on for you this week?
Villager: I was really angry last week and I couldn’t concentrate so I just didn’t go do the thing I did last week where I got triggered. So… nothing happened this week.
Ok-Driver7647: and after that? And the rest of the week?
Villager: nothing. Most of the time I even forgot about it.
Ok-Driver7647 nods: what do you think next week will be like? Do you believe in the Fuckening?
Villager laughs: I think next week will be the same.
Ok-Driver7647 looks at the camera and mouths the word “wow”: thank you for your time.
approaches random citizen walking in our direction
Ok-Driver7647: Hi. I’m reporting from WTFisDzBS NEWS. Can I ask you about the Fuckening?
Random citizen: Yeh, no worries.
Ok-Driver7647: So how’s these last few weeks been for you?
Random Citizen: well this last week was really good. It wasn’t extra special or anything. It was just really nice, yeh. You know what I mean?
Ok-Driver7647: I think I do but I’m wondering if you think it’s the Fuckening.
Random Citizen shakes their head: I used to but then it went on so long that stopped making sense too.
Ok-Driver7647: so what happens next? Any plans?
Random Citizen smiles and shrugs: I dunno. Maybe I’ll just live.
Ok-Driver7647 smiles and nods: thanks so much for your time
the camera follows Ok-Driver7647 down the road to a darkened figure sitting on a chair. He’s soaked in a semi darkness that never leaves him, even in daylight. He looks bored AF
Ok-Driver7647: Mr Boogeyman, Babayaga…. I hear you’ve been here fore a few weeks now? Can I ask you about the Fuckening?
Boogeyman: you must watch too many movies. My name’s not Babayaga.
Ok-Driver7647: oh! my apologies (winks at camera) yes I do.
Boogeyman: I’ve just been hanging around, having my say, making the hair rise skin every now and then but I’m not getting noticed as much anymore. It’s just me in the corner now.
Ok-Driver7647: Do you think it’s the Fuckening, though? You could be busy soon?
Boogeyman scowls: Does this look like the Fuckening to you?
Ok-Driver7647: thank you for your time Mr Boogeyman.
Ok-Driver7647 walks back up the road, still looking up at the camera at times, and continues talking
Ok-Driver7647: While we haven’t had time to cover everything we know so far that nothing is happening and people are generally just going about their week and day.
camera pans to children playing in the street, then over to the Boogeman who is now walking around kicking rocks. It looks like he is talking to himself
Ok-Driver7647: there’s no sign of a big Mack truck ploughing through any time soon and we are also not sure if we should still be waiting on those peppers anymore. Even the Boogeyman has been kept waiting with nothing to do and all the cows have come home. Everything is quiet…. But is it too quiet? Is this the Fuckening? Maybe it it but I’m not entirely convinced. If it is though just remember you saw it here first on WTFisDzBS NEWS. Thanks for watching! Back to you in the studio.
[the tv turns off. There isn’t anymore]
THE FUCKENING: When your day is going too well and you don't trust it and some shit finally goes down ”Ah, there it is, the fuckening.”
