2024.05.21 20:39 c_foad Suddenly AIO is failing on GPU.

Suddenly AIO is failing on GPU.
I just drove home from uni temporarily and decided to take my pc since I’ll be here for a week. Here’s what has happened: my GPU AIO is suddenly making a loud “buzzing” noise and my pc starts with the GPU already on around 60C idle. It slowly continues to rise - the highest I’ve let it get to is 80C until I just shut down to be safe.
• I’ve tried turning (tilting/rotating) the pc while on and off to release any trapped air. • Turning off the pump completely shows the same rise in temperatures as it is when running at 100%, so clearly it is not doing any cooling. • Both pipes are constantly cold - not at all reflecting the temperature of the GPU, so no water is taking any heat from the GPU. • When I turn on the pump and try to feel for the water flow, I feel very slight vibrations compared to my CPU pump within which the water flow is easily noticeable by touch. This makes me think that the vibrations that I am feeling from my GPU pump is just the vibrations from the pump and not the water flow.
My pc was fine before this drive other than sometimes having some coil whine. It has all happened just suddenly. I don’t think a bump from the road would be enough to displace the pump, but I’m not sure.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks.

2024.05.21 20:16 Arunbenx This is one of the best creationism argument in see. (Indian edition)

This is one of the best creationism argument in see. (Indian edition)
I have seen many god in the gaps, intelligent design and fine tuning argument, most of them are really stupid and can be debunked easily. But there are some argument that you need some level of scientific knowledge to debunk it. Which are really rare especially in India. I believe this is one of those videos. (I couldn't do it, due to the lack of knowledge) but i believe some with very low Scientific temperament (like me) can be easily fooled by this. Actually I would like u/PranavYedlapalli to react to this video, even though the is video in Malayalam. (I believe he can understand Malayalam)
For those who don't understand Malayalam i had done a rough translation.
The translation.
When we observe the universe, a lot of things are pointing to a creator. It's an obvious logic.
When we look at mount rushmore do we ever think of it happens of natural causes, we know there is a creator, some one or a few people made that. Just like that when we observe the universe and our body, it's clear that there is a creator. When It comes to topic like creation of universe and our body, atheist would say it's undirected. Without direction, just through evolution this all had happened. But if we dig deeper we would realise that it is impossible to imagine universe without a creator.
This is Fred Hoyle, (a picture) he is a scientist. What makes him special is that he was one of the greatest atheist in 1940-80s. There is a theory called steady state theory. Regarding the creation of this universe there where two theory, one steady state theory and other Big Bang theory. The steady state theory state's that the universe has no beginning nore an end. For an atheist which theory would be more acceptible. It's steady state theory. In that the universe don't have a beginning, if there is a beginning the we have to find the reasoning for it's creation and it's creator. If there is no beginning, they don't have to find that. At those times all the atheist accepted steady state theory. After that the theory of Big Bang came, which talks about an explosion occurring at point of sinclarity. This is a different topic. I'm not gonna talk about this now.
The name big bang was given by Fred Hoyle, InFact he mocked that theory by calling it a "big bang". The theory's opponent (Fred Hoyle) given the name for that theory. After few a years Fred Hoyle become a theist. The reason was not big bang.... But it's fine tuning, it a bit complex but I will explain it.
(Okay, I'm not gonna translate the entire speech word by word, it's only been 6min to the 38min video, I'm exhausted. I'm only gonna translate the relevant points now onwords.)
After that he ask the audience "what's the most important element for us?" He waited for someone to say carbon, then started talking about different forms of carbon. "From diamond to Ash alot of things are carbon." The he goes on. " Carbon is important for the sustenance of life, and the Fred hoyle want to know how carbon was formed." Then he start talking about nuclear fusion, how everyother atom is formed by fusion of hydrogen. Then he goes on to explain how carbon was formed using fusion. He said "for carbon to form they need a specific value of force, and specific value of quark is needed for high energy carbons. So what's he (Fred hoyle) understood from that was their should be a design, or else this specific values can't occur. Then he goes on, how the gravity is affecting the temperature of the Star. Where too much or too little gravity would over heat or under heat the star, which won't lead to carbon formation. Then he goes on, even if the value of the gravitational constant change by 1/10³⁵, even then there couldn't be a carbon. Even a small decimal could prevent carbon formation and that made atheist Fred hoyle to a theist.
Then a quote of Fred hoyle.
Which clearly state that there's no blind force and it's clear without any doubt, it's intelligent design.
Then he goes on explaining how minor change in these values would prevent life from forming.
Change in 1/25 of Electro magnetic Force would prevent life form.
Same for Strong Nuclear Force, 1 part in 100 would prevent the universe from forming.
Same for
Ratio of weak nuclear force to SNF - 1 part in 10000
Ratio of EMF to Gravity - 1 part in 10⁴⁰.
Which futher proof fine tuning.
(Ok the next part is kinda obvious, even i know it's stupid.)
He talks about earth and it's position to sun, how it's not too close nore too far, so that life can form. He talks about the rotation and revolution of earth, how a change would increase or decrease the days which makes life impossible here. And how position of Jupiter Stop astroids. Then the size of moon and position play's a huge role in lunar tide, which play's a huge role in life forming on the earth. Futher he talks about the Axis, speed, sunlight. Which all are fine tuned.
Then he talks about the probability of this being random. With an experiment, in a box there is cards with 1 to 10 numbers. What is the possibility of drawing the 10 cards in the exact order (1 to 10) from the first being one is 1/10 and gos on. And the chance to get it all in order is 1/ 10 crores. Even a simple explanation like that has only 1/10 crores chance. Which means the possibility of getting this is very less.
Then gives the Infinite monkey therom typing hamlet example. Then he try to calculate the possibility of typing just the sentence
"to be or not to be, that is the question"
To get "T" correct: 1/32
To get "TO" correct : 1/32 x 1/32
To get complete correct: 1/(5.1422017e+061)
Assume: Monkey typing one line(41 strokes per second)
Probability that monkey won't get the sentence correct in one second: 1-(1/32)41
•Probability that monkey won't get it in one minute : [1-(1/32)41]60
•Probability that monkey won't get it in one year: {[[[1-(1/32)41]60]60]24}365
Which is
0.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999993867218 44366784484760952487499968756116464000
Even if we take 1700 crore years
Probability is
0.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999998946 3961512816564762914005246488858434168051444149065 728
Till now he was talking about a single monkey, now let's take
17 billion galaxies, each with 17 billion planets, each with 17 billion monkeys, typing one line per second for 17 billion years!
Probability that monkey don't type this sentence:
0.9999999999999465759379507781960794856828386656482641321881042993265961 42975867879656916416973433628!!
The chance of getting a single sentence is so low, Hance this all being a chance it really low.
Then he kinda compare this with multiverse theory.
Then he ends with Occam's razor philosophy, where the simplest explaination is the best. He gives an example, imagine when you wake up in the morning, and the food is readied. What would be the possible explain, the simplest and most possible explanation is someone in your house cooked it rather than some complex explanation, of someone from outside bringed it, which is even though possible. The chances is low. The multiverse theory and everything like that is a complex explanation, we need a simplest explaination. And he also given a example of founding iPhone in a desert. You could have a simplest example where someone lost it, and a complex on where the iPhones chipset is made up of silica with is sand and the body is plastic which is made by petroleum product. So you could also say in this thousands of years the sand and petroleum converted some how to form an iPhone. It's complex, make it simple so someone lost It.
The reason why i think it's the best is just my subjective feeling, and i never seen some put creationism argument this.

Are Reservations Necessary To Dine In Barcelona Restaurants?
Asking the age-old question of whether reservations are necessary to dine in Barcelona restaurants is like trying to solve a Rubik's cube. It can take some skill and finesse but, with patience and practice, the answer can be revealed!
To begin with, it generally depends on what kind of restaurant you're planning on visiting. For instance, if you choose to visit a high-end establishment downtown then making a reservation may be essential; however, many smaller restaurants don't require one. In Spain specifically, most local eateries will not insist upon an advanced booking - particularly for lunchtime meals or during off-peak hours. Here are three tips that could help:
Look up reviews online – they often indicate if reservations are recommended
Check out the restaurant website – this should have more information about their policies
Give them a call directly – speaking to staff members might give you the clearest insight into their practices
Ultimately though, there’s no need to worry unduly about making bookings since Barcelona has so much delicious food and friendly service readily available! Whether it's tapas bars, seafood cafes or traditional bistros customers just walk right in and enjoy themselves without any hassle. There’s something wonderfully freeing in knowing exactly where your next meal is coming from without having to plan ahead too far in advance. If freedom and spontaneity sound appealing when exploring this vibrant city then luckily there are plenty of options out there which don't require reservations!

Common ingredients include fish like anchovies and sardines cooked in different ways; vegetables such as aubergines roasted on charcoal or stewed in sauces; meats including pork sausages and grilled lamb; plus stews thickened with almonds or hazelnuts called 'Suquet'. All this can be accompanied by local wines from Penedès and Priorat regions.
In search of these regional specialties, you'll find no shortage of charming restaurants around town offering up some of the best examples of Catalan cooking. Whether it's rustic tapas bars tucked away down cobbled alleys or chic bistros overlooking the port - each one promises you a tantalizing journey through Spain’s most celebrated gastronomic region. 2024.05.21 20:05 OrlonDogger A Witch at Midnight - Chapter 19

[First] [Previous] [Next]
To my beloved Marcus
I know you will make sure
this Heart reaches every lost Bastard
or any curious soul in general
until this guide is no longer necessary.
It makes me so sad to think I won't live to see that day.
It is hard for me to say this, but if this book has made its way into your hands, it means that it is already too late for you. For some reason, whichever it may be, you are already in the middle of our situation. And taking the chance now that I already said something so depressing, here is another thing: there is no way for you to get out of it.

Are you being surrounded by strange events lately? I don’t know, maybe the lights around you blink more often than not, the radio changes stations without anyone touching the dial? The animals are suddenly extremely aggressive, or maybe unnaturally tame towards you?

Suddenly you can’t shake the feeling that someone, or something, is staring at you from somewhere unseen in the room…

I guess that I don’t need to mention how this all started. You probably saw something you weren’t meant to see, didn’t you. Some random person breaking the rules of reality in one way or another. A guy flying, a girl on the streets spitting fire, objects appearing out of nowhere.

Nothing makes sense and no one seems to care or know how to explain it. Well my friend, I am sorry to inform you that you have been infected. You are incubating the Arcane Infection, and you are now Awake.

Now, you are a Mage. A Bastard Mage, if you don’t have a master to guide you… which is most probably the case.

If this is the first time you read this book, or any kind of Draconian Text, this probably doesn’t make any sense. I know, it didn’t make sense for me either when I was in your place, almost seventy years ago. But trust me, everything will be explained in time. Just be patient, and stay with me, ok? Keep calm, and keep reading.

The first thing you need to learn is to shut up. You cannot talk about this with anyone who hasn’t experienced it and holds some sort of relevant position in society. Really. Famous scientists, politicians, Mayors, I don’t know. Anyone who tends to be trusted by non-mages. Just. Don’t.

If you already did, let’s hope they didn’t believe you. With some luck, you were disregarded as a fool, a maniac or a person with too vivid of an imagination.

If you survive past three days or so after opening your dumb mouth, you should be safe? Now don’t do that again. The Black Pages don’t like it when you try to talk about this…

Remember that sensation of being stalked? Let’s say that it will eventually go away, unless you are stupid or naive enough to try and bring attention to this deal.

Yes. Magic is real. Good for you. Now shut your piehole and keep reading unless you want to be remembered soon. Walls have eyes and ears, and they’ll probably continue to have them for two or three months. Trying to run away will only perpetuate this, so the best thing you can do is not think about it.

Do something stupid in these months and you will die. Disappear. Kaput. Remembered.

There are people who want to maintain this as a secret. That is another thing I will explain in time.

Right now you have two options: You can learn how to manage this new “gift” (if you want to call it that) in a remotely appropriate way; or you can just be another idiot, and try to live a normal life.

What? You think I am being unnecessarily aggressive? Well maybe I am. But you need to understand the gravity of this situation.

Because I lied. You have no options. Learn how to use this new capability to your advantage, or you will die in a freak accident.

If after reading this you prefer to just keep on with your life like nothing happened, then good for you. Close the book, and put it back where it was. With some luck it will land in the hands of someone less dense.

.

.

.

Still reading? Good. Excellent! Sit down, get comfortable, maybe grab a drink. This is going to be long.

Among the words of this tome in your hands, you will find all the information I have been able to gather along my eighty god damn years of life, or at least all that you need to know to keep yourself alive until getting a proper guide.

It will be a long journey, and many of the things here won't make much sense, especially because I had to take the time to adapt and translate documents three or four centuries old to a mostly understandable format.
So you better be thankful.

The first thing I want you to know: please, for the love of God, do not settle for the things I am exposing here. All the information in this book will be absolutely basic, it won’t replace a formal education.. All the information here is for you to know where you are, how to start, and where to aim.

And now is when I am going to start telling you what IS inside this book.

We will start with something simple: what is Magic (or “The Art”) exactly, how did you end up in this situation and why is it important that you study it by yourself.

Then, after the general explanation, I will talk a little about our “Society”, if we can call a bunch of lonely, grumpy jackasses a “Mage Society”. There are some non-written rules of etiquette and other details that you need to keep in mind, if you want to keep the head on your neck.

Another section of the book will talk about the dangers around us… and this section will be, ironically enough, quite short, because the less you know about it, the better.

Mystery is your greatest ally, it’s everyone’s greatest ally. All that you don’t know is as important as what you do know. And that is what the fourth chapter is about. Each Mage has their own magical system, according to which they can create a Heart. There are as many ways of Magic as Mages in the world (so, not really that many), but all of them share some similarities.

Chapter Five is about the foundations of a ritual. Not every magical system has rituals, but it is always useful to learn and understand how these work, just in case you may find yourself in a desperate situation..

Finally, Chapter Six will be a directory with Formulas, Glyphs and Thrills that should serve as a starting point for all of you. Nothing too complex, but still, very useful. I left a few blank pages here, for you to add anything you learn and feel convenient.

If any of you misuses it, I swear to the Gods.

And this would be the real reason behind this tome: take whatever you can, leave what you create for others to use. I started this book as some sort of reproduction of the classic “Metodología del Fantástico”, that dear Gwendolin de Recattio left for us almost four hundred years ago, and that is obviously beyond obsolete at this point.

That and also probably burned to ashes as many other manuals end up.

Take notes damn it, I will leave spaces for everyone to make a little mark. But for the love of the Gods don’t use your real name, don’t be an imbecile.

Let’s make something together. Let’s create something important for once in our stupid lives. Let’s make the Bastard's life a little easier.

Gato.

That casual exclamation to the so-called ‘gods’ makes it clear that this book is either heretical or very old. Then again, the Wohlian it is written in is quite modern… but that could be the effect of magic, right? After all, this thing is written in ‘draconic’, which seems to be a magical language that self-translates or something?

But that was not the only thing that kinda came to my attention. This guy, Gato, is treating magic like this incredibly serious and dangerous thing… and I can’t help but feel a little nervous about it. I mean, everyone seems to be doing just fine, even if there are a few rules that I have to consider. Was this deal really so complicated?

Well, Gato was the expert, and it felt like everyone respected them plenty so… I will abide by them!

Besides, the knowledge here is beyond promising! A part of me wants to skip right to chapter 6 and start learning new runes! But no, I have to be patient, I have to learn the way it was intended and take my time absorbing/acclimating to the knowledge!

That does remind me, I have my own runes to learn and start using, too… should I begin practicing that before I start learning new ones?

Wait. Before you do any of that… there’s more on the page?

Huh?

I will add as much as I can! This book is a great resource but it is also a bit outdated, after all it’s been almost 80 years since its writing!

Don’t give up! We will see this through!

— Giovanni.

If I leave that idiot in charge of the notes he will undoubtedly forget things. Take his optimism with a grain of salt.

Pay attention.

— Mustafá.

Annotations?

I quickly open the file on my computer to compare… and just as I thought, these annotations are not on the scanned version. The beginning is exactly the same, but the writing makes it obvious that these two were written at different times, by the same hand but, still, copied individually!

I look down at my physical version again. Who are these people? And why did they feel the need to vandalize the book like this? I can only beg for them to actually make sensible and useful comments. If this book is as old as they say, maybe the updates will be a good thi–

Wait, only 80 years? I thought a book like this would be at least a century old.

Maybe magic is surprisingly modern after all!

Fat chance. Gato quoted one of his sources, ‘Metodología del Fantástico’, which should be around five hundred years old.

Hmmm, whatever the case… I should ask someone about this.

But I can’t just go right back to the Chatbox after saying I would be busy, that would be silly! I instead connect to the Messenger.

Pepe is not online, probably planning a cool vacation with his family or something. Vito is out drawing, Patricio is online but busy… ah, there it is! The group Gal made. Someone should know something there…

xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Hi hi! n.n Anyone here?
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: hey Tav, just me for now! the others are busy or snoring.
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: I wish I could go for some zzz right now
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Is it late where you live? o.o
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: early, we have a few hours of difference between Wohl and Rayah.

The Commonwealth of Rayah… that’s on the literal other side of Jericho, so of course we have half a day of difference!

xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Wait O.o is it like, five in the morning over there then!?
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: eyeup
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: today I gotta take care of granny’s business and that means waking up EARLY
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Damn u.u I hope you have a good day, remember to keep hydrated!
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: hah, will do, will do.
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Hmmm… hey, sorry to bother you with this but, I gotta ask… uwu
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Have you ever heard of Mustafá and/or Giovanni? uwu
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: in what context?
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: those are names, you’re saying names right now
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: In magic contexts? O.o
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: not a clue, sorry
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Bah, probably just a couple of randos then u.u
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Oh well, thank you anyways! n.n
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: where did you even find those names?
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: Ah! I found them in the physical version of the book you sent me!
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: why did you go looking for that?
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: I don’t like reading in electronic media TwT
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: hmmm ok but be careful
GalaxyTaco to your rescue!: don’t go testing the knowledge of randos or something like that
xXxCallMeBigCookiexXx: I won’t, I won’t -u- I will be nice and careful!

Cracking my knuckles, I finally get back into the book. Finally, some answers at hand!

So basically when i was a kid aged 8-12 my favourite show in the world was woozle goozle. A german Puppet show which thought kids about all kinds of stuff with the host being a blue Puppet inventor named "woozle" accompanied by the actual human being Benedikt weber. (The host of german art attack up until 2012 when he started hosting for WG. He started going back to disney in 2018-19 i think) And well while i have since not watched it as the new host didnt really catch my fancy It WAS my Favourite as a kid and did shape my humour in some way. ( even though it wasnt that great) Anyway the reason im poting this here is the following. The show Has an INCREDIBLE Public and free archive of every episode EXCEPT season 1. For some reason seaon 1 is completely unavaible to watch not online nor by traditional tv.
I do not know why it wasnt archived
I was able to find a list of the episodes along with an alleged link to them but clicking on it leads to the website of the channel and demands to log in with an account ( the site does not Have account systems). So its Possible that these episodes are for SOME REASON restricted from the public as the only accounts i can iamgine this site possibly having being for staff.
Ill try to send everything i can find and i would love some help finding this.
Thank you

2024.05.21 19:54 Infamous-Research-82 Ranting

I(24) started working in this practice and just to get used to the settings and unit and staff, like how things work. So, I brought my brother (26). He needed an RCT for upper right 5 and who’s gonna be more patient than my brother? Right? Well well well it all went sideways. Oh! Let’s start with the unit, the foot piece has buttons on the side and it’s not just that..to start the hand piece the foot piece isn’t pressed but rather got a side arm that you push for it to work. So yeah I have buttons on side at same level of the arm that you need to push to let air in hand piece. So you can imagine the patient going up and down the entire session cause if I didn’t accidentally hit these toooooo sensitive buttons the assistant does. Ffs Fml. Ah, now that we are mentioning the assistant, she got nothing to do with dentistry. I have to ask for everything to be done. She’s tooo lazy and heavy. Getting things done is very slow. Like I ask her to hold the suction she hold it and the moment i drop the hand piece to grab a probe or an excavator she is on the other side standing doing nothing. Like give me a second I am not done. And it’s not just that, im working upper right 5 and the suction are either in my mirror or interfering with my hand piece. Please please i just want to get done with this and nope. Ah, okay so we managed to expose our orifices and we are starting our shaping and cleaning I ask her to adjust the light and she’s like: like that? No, not like that look into the mirror can you see the light reflecting on the orifices? Ah, the patient. Supine is bad, keep me seated upfront. How ffs how?? Okay, limited mouth opening can’t fit the rotary into his mouth to even hit the orifice. Oh and x-ray. For the past three years ive been only using sensors and she is going old school(practice owner) and uses developer and fixer can the assistant do it? NOPE i should do it. It took me two hours of achieving absolute nothing regarding this case. Other than that my patient is nagging about literally everything. If he felt the file rotates= pain. If h got saliva into his mouth he just wants to rinse. Oh my god.

2024.05.21 19:26 Divine_ruler How is natural talent that different from SS?

“Waka would be D-tier without SS, his karate is shit”-agreed
“Every other character actually worked for their strength, Waka was just born with it”-wait a minute
Waka learned karate as a way to control his strength iirc, he had been learning it for years before he joined Kengan matches. Not to mention the years he spent as a child learning to control his strength. After his loss to Agito, he spent 8 years learning grappling and developing Blastcore. 8 years learning a single skill, not even a whole style.
Kiryu fully mastered, and improved, the Koei style in 2 years when it normally takes a decade. He was born with immense natural talent and learning capability, allowing him to master one of the most powerful styles in the series in 1/5th of the time. He not only increased the rotation of RP, but recreated the technique with his legs and fingers as well. He fused the Koei and Niko styles, as well as the Koei and Gaoh styles. If you took away Kiryu’s immense, innate martial talent, he’d have barely mastered the Koei style by now.
Ohma, who has pretty regular physical stats, was able to survive in the Inside as a child because he’s extremely genetically gifted when it comes to martial arts ability. He quite literally has the best possible genes for talent and learning capability. Yeah, he worked extremely hard. But in the time it took Wakatsuki to learn just below top tier grappling, Ohma had mastered the Niko style and learnt Demonsbane. If he wasn’t Shen’s clone, he’d have died 100 times over despite all of his hard work.
Cosmo was 19 in the KAT. He was a R3 competitor, one of the top 10 fighters in the entirety of the Kengan Association, after 6 years of learning martial arts. He is a pure, natural born genius. Take that genius away, those thugs would’ve killed him before Kureshi even got there.
Kiryu, Ohma, and Cosmo all worked hard to obtain their skills. But it’s the natural talent they were born with that let the achieve the strength they currently have.
What is the difference between that natural talent and Waka’s SS? They both allow people to become strong significantly faster than anyone else putting in the same amount of work, so why does only Waka get shit on for it?

2024.05.21 19:21 quakertroy [PC][90s?] Point and click 3D adventure game in a fantasy setting

Platform: PC
Genre: Point and Click Adventure
Estimated year of release: Probably mid-90s
Graphics/Art-style: 3D cutscenes... I think 2D in-game?
I remember playing this game as a kid, but the details are a bit fuzzy. I think the main character was a lizard-type person, but I am also not sure if he was the only playable character. It takes place in a medieval fantasy type setting, but with anachronistic elements and meta humor. For instance, one area of a town is blocked off with police tape, and a modern-day cop (who may have been a reference to the T-1000) tells you to move along. I remember at one point you needed to bribe him with donuts to get past, and eventually either kill him or take his reflective glasses in order to reflect a Gorgon's gaze.
I think there's a wizard character you can anger at some point and from then on spells will chase you across the various game screens.
Edit: Found it -- Kingdom O' Magic

2024.05.21 19:05 PsychologicalEast262 Assistant Teacher Dilemma

This doubles as a vent so bare with me. I am a lead teacher in the toddler room. My assistant teacher was the previous lead for that room but chose to step down. She is great with the kids and has experience but her work ethic really stops there. She is constantly “sick” so we have a rotating wheel of random teachers in her spot that makes it very difficult to get things done. She has no regard for sanitary/licensing regulations. Really her main goal is for things to look cute and aesthetically pleasing but I get no help whatsoever with cleaning. She starts hundreds of projects but never finishes them so there are always materials everywhere and unfinished projects littering the classroom. She also never collaborates with me on them which is frustrating because I get no say (even when I offer to help) in how things function. She is only concerned with product art after many conversations with her about the the importance of process art so I have had to exclude her from that portion of our lessons often for the sake of the kids. Her attention to detail is severely lacking and I find myself embarrassed at the messages that go out to parents/admin on my days off(I work 4 days a week). She pushes back on every little decision I make (things as simple as jackets vs. no jackets outside, etc.) and I’m getting very frustrated. Ultimately, I think she is having a hard time letting go of what she views as “her” classroom. These may seem like minor gripes and I do not need total control, I want to be able to work as a team with my assistant but I feel like my ability to lead is being hindered. I am not great with confrontation but I have tried chatting with her about things and it just goes over her head. For weeks now, I have been contemplating asking my director about a change in assistant teachers and possibly moving her to another classroom. Is it worth it? Will it make me seem like a control-freak and someone who is difficult to work with?
Edited to add: Sick is in quotation marks because multiple times she has flat out told me that she is just tired or does not want to be there. We all get burnt out so I tried to be understanding but the frequency is what makes it so frustrating.

2024.05.21 19:05 kitkrilled I'd love to chat with some other gender queer folks! :-)

Hello! This is my first time making a post. I usually just lurk here lolol. I'm really just in the mood to chat with some other genderqueer folks. I don't really know many others irl who identify the same way I do and sometimes it can be a bit lonely.
A bit about me: I'm about to enter my last year of college in the fall, as a fine arts major! i have a given name and a chosen name that i go by (chosen name is Juni). I use they/she pronouns! I have a black cat who is my precious baby boy and my ESA!! I love to play games like Valheim, V Rising, ANY zelda but especially TOTK and BOTW, Minecraft, Animal Crossing, etc.....I'm really into reading One Piece currently as well!
My genderqueer is experience so far has been initially identifying as non-binary from 2020 until about 2022. I didn't feel like I quite related to what non-binary usually is as a label, so I had to do some reflection. I present feminine some days (longer skirts, flowy clothes, layered necklaces and earrings, makeup, etc) and I really enjoy feeling pretty (even when I present more masculine), but I feel most comfortable in what you could call uhhh the "adam sandler" fits lolol. aka a big tee and basketball shorts. That is how I prefer to present. Even my dressed up looks usually involve mens green cargo shorts and blocky tanks, or baggy jeans/jean shorts, big tees. I also do not usually wear makeup...my ""every day"" these days is just a smear of some brown eyeliner and eyeshadow w a lil glitter. The best way to verbalize my gender is..........creature thing?? I feel like I can relate to growing up a girl socially, and to the experience of womanhood now, but I simultaneously feel detached and foreign from it?? Like i'm not allowed to be there....because it's something i don't fully understand....I didn't have a normal girl experience either so maybe that is why. When I was with other girls when I was younger, it did feel like I was performing as a gender. When i started expressing myself correctly in the past few years i felt my confidence skyrocket! (aka letting my body hair grow, wearing less makeup, masculine clothes) Blah idk. being alive is strange but beautiful
Anyways that is enough about me !! :0) sorry for rambling hehe

2024.05.21 19:01 Douglasjm Magic is Programming B2 Chapter 2: Feelings

Synopsis:
Carlos was an ordinary software engineer on Earth, up until he died and found himself in a fantasy world of dungeons, magic, and adventure. This new world offers many fascinating possibilities, but it's unfortunate that the skills he spent much of his life developing will be useless because they don't have computers.
Wait, why does this spell incantation read like a computer program's source code? Magic is programming?
___

"So, in short, the most stuck-up bully of my life is now begging for our help to fulfill his greatest dream, because we've happened to become his only remotely realistic hope of achieving it. Do I have that right?"
Carlos looked up from his plate of succulent roasted meats and vegetables, all covered generously with a rich gravy, and raised an eyebrow at Amber. They were in Mayor Stelras's personal dining room, enjoying the service of his personal chef. "You know you do. You've read the letter yourself, what, a dozen times now?"
Amber set the letter aside yet again and took another bite of her own lunch. "Yeah, I know. It's just…" She shook her head and chuckled. "Out of all the things that happened the last few weeks, this one is somehow the hardest for me to believe is real. It's ridiculous. I know it's ridiculous. I've personally met and spoken with royalty! Kindar should be nothing compared to that! But, somehow… This is hitting me harder than anything."
Carlos nodded calmly. "Makes sense to me. The presence of royalty is completely new to you. It's huge and important, and far beyond anything you ever expected might happen, but the only thing you've experienced before that's different is its absence. You don't have any memories in the back of your mind telling you 'that's not how this is supposed to work.' For Kindar, you have a lifetime of memories telling you that he's more powerful and better supported than you are, and that you're mostly helpless against his bullying. Now that you're the one in power, and he's the one helpless against you, that's not just new, but contradicts a lot of your past experiences. Some part of you in the back of your mind is having difficulty reconciling the contradiction; it's like you have a subconscious voice shouting 'that's wrong; it's not how this is supposed to work!' For meeting Princess Lornera, that voice is only confused and surprised, not feeling like something's wrong."
"Hmm." Amber cocked her head and paused. She looked down and idly speared another forkful of tender steak. She made a few more contemplative sounds as she chewed and swallowed. "That makes some weird kind of sense. I think." She shook her head. "How did you know that? I never would have figured it out."
Carlos chuckled. "Don't feel bad about it. Not many people would ever figure out that kind of thing about how human minds work without being taught. I certainly didn't. My dad's a therapist, and he taught me a lot."
Amber blinked, then blinked again. "I have never heard of that profession before. In fact, I think it doesn't exist here."
Carlos realized on reflection that "therapist" hadn't translated. There was no word for it in Ganler, the native language here. "Huh. … I hadn't thought about it, but I'm not surprised. It took a long time for people where I grew up to realize that kind of thing can be important. Or maybe the hard part was realizing that it takes education and training to do it well."
"Ah."
They ate mostly in silence for a while, occasionally humming in thoughtful consideration while they chewed. Eventually Amber was leaning on her elbow, just watching as Carlos scraped up a few last bits of gravy from his plate. She stared distantly at nothing. "Hmm… You know, I'm tempted to actually accept, just so I can rub his face in how I succeeded better at his own greatest ambition than he ever will."
"Hmm? Oh right, Kindar." Carlos chuckled. "I imagine a few sessions of smugly condescending to him would be rather cathartic revenge for you. Would it be worth the downside of helping him actually achieve his ambition, at least to a minor degree, though? I'm sure that if Darmelkon had any other viable options for helping his son with this, he would have taken care of it years ago. If we refuse, we'll be denying Kindar from achieving his ambition at all. Wouldn't that be better revenge?"
"Logically, yeah, that makes sense. But it just doesn't feel satisfying to me." Amber took a sip of water and pushed her empty plate away. "I want to show him how badly we outclass him now. I want to see his face when he realizes that he will never measure up to the 'annoying stupid girl' he used to tease."
Carlos put his hands together, resting his elbows on the table, and rested his chin on his hands as he looked at Amber. "Not to mention how much money Darmelkon will pay us for doing it." His voice was calm and level.
Amber nodded quickly. "Yes, that too."
"You realize we're already rich now, right? Receiving taxes, and all that."
Amber threw her head back laughed uproariously. When her laughter finally tapered off, she leaned forward and looked Carlos in the eyes. "You may have heard that Darmelkon is rich, but you clearly don't understand how filthy rich he really is. Yes, I was shocked when he offered a hundred gold bounty for finding us back before we became nobles, but that was only because I didn't know why he considered us valuable. For this? For helping his son achieve his otherwise impossible greatest desire? A price in platinum would be cheap! I would bet that he'll pay in mythril and be glad about it."
"Hmm." Carlos quickly did the math in his head. 100 gold was roughly equivalent in value here to a million dollars on Earth, and is also equal to 1 platinum. So 1 million dollars per platinum. 100 platinum is 1 mythril. So each mythril coin is around the same order of magnitude value as 100 million dollars. Just 10 mythril to match a billion dollars. "Okay, that's more than I thought. So he's a major business tycoon? What the hell is he doing living in a backwater in the middle of nowhere like Erlen?"
Amber shrugged. "I have no idea. Ask him."
Carlos stared for a moment and snorted. "I suppose it doesn't matter." He took a deep breath. "Alright, I guess we're at least seriously considering it after all. So, let's break it down, pros and cons. Pros: personal satisfaction for you, Darmelkon loses any basis for claiming we still owe him a favor, and we get a ridiculous amount of money. Cons: Kindar becomes a noble. Also, we have to put up with him being here for a while. Anything else?"
"Another one for pros: Even with the favor and Darmelkon paying so much, Kindar himself will personally owe us, bigtime." Amber grinned. "His house will just about be permanent vassals in service to us."
Carlos hesitated, then frowned. "… Just how much, and how long, do you intend to keep paying him back for how he treated you?"
Amber raised an eyebrow and shrugged. "…Until I get tired of it? I don't know."
"I'm all for giving him a well-deserved comeuppance, turning the tables, and giving him a taste of his own medicine to teach him a lesson. But I will not countenance continuing to humiliate and abuse him long term!" Carlos shook his head emphatically. "If we do that, we would be bullies just as bad as he was. I hate bullies, and I refuse to be one."
Amber slowly lowered her eyes, blushed, and nodded shyly. "I… You're right. That is not the kind of person I want to be. I'm sorry for suggesting it."
Carlos leaned forward and reached out to gently put his right hand on top of her hands. "It's okay. What's important is that you recognize your mistakes, learn from them, and make yourself a better person. My parents taught me that very, very thoroughly."
"Yeah." Amber sighed and shook herself. "Thanks. I'll try to remember that. And… Should we just call off the whole idea?"
"Only if you truly want to." Carlos squeezed her hands gently. "If you can get some satisfaction without taking it too far, then that's completely okay, and you were right that there are serious benefits to it. Even having him as a vassal house, as long as we treat him reasonably. Though… Hmm." He frowned. "There has to be a reason why strong noble houses aren't raising up new vassal nobles all the time, right? It's not all that hard to make a noble soul plan if you know the requirements details."
"I suppose. Lorvan probably knows the reason."
Carlos nodded. "Yeah. I feel like he might just ask if we can figure it out ourselves, like he did about nobles keeping mana wellsprings, though…" He shrugged. "I'm sure Darmelkon knows too, and he wouldn't have asked if the Crown forbids it, or anything like that. He's ambitious and ruthless, not stupid. We should ask, certainly, but I expect any consequences we might have overlooked will be manageable. As I see it, the core question is just…" Carlos reached his other hand forward, firmly clasped and lifted both of Amber's hands, and looked her in the eyes. "Amber, what do you want to do with this?"
Amber stared back for a moment, then averted her gaze. "Don't you have an opinion about this too? Why are you only asking me?"
"Of course I have an opinion, but all he did to me was loan me a sword in a dungeon and then act rude and arrogant when he demanded it back afterward. You are the one who grew up being bullied by him. How to treat him matters far more to you than it possibly could to me." Carlos squeezed Amber's hands reassuringly. "Amber, please, look at me." He waited, and after a few seconds Amber hesitantly turned her head to face him directly again. "My opinion on this is that I want our response to be something that you will be content and happy with. All other relevant considerations that I can think of are less important than that."
Amber stared and slowly nodded. "I… Thank you." She squeezed Carlos's hands back and awkwardly extracted her hands from his grip so she could lean forward and rest her head on them, propped up by her elbows on the table. "I think… I do want to accept, but maybe with some conditions. I still want to show him up in person and see his reaction. Part of me still feels afraid of him, and I want to prove to myself that he doesn't have the power to threaten me anymore. That seems like something your 'therapists' would say something about. Would they say it's a good idea? Do you know?"
Carlos nodded. "Yes, absolutely. Standing up to something you used to fear is a great way to resolve residual fear of it that lingers in your mind."
"Then, yeah. I want to do that, and I do still want to get some payback." Amber hesitated. "But if I start bullying people like he did, I'd start hating myself as soon as I realize it. So, no bullying. And that goes for Kindar too. If he can't learn to stop being a bully, then he doesn't deserve what he wants. Let's give him a chance. Make our conditions clear, and demand partial payment up front, but give him an opportunity to earn our help."
"That sounds fair." Carlos cocked his head and frowned in thought. "Having him with us may require adjusting some of our plans. … Actually, we're overdue for making certain plans in the first place. I got a bit too carried away with my excitement over all the spell keywords we can learn now. Sorry."
Amber grinned. "Have you forgotten that I told you I'm well known for always having a plan? What do you think I've been doing the past two days?"
Carlos raised an eyebrow, then grinned back at her. "Oh really? Let's see what you've got!"

2024.05.21 18:57 Practical_Act_6488 [Partially Lost] English "Zica and the Chameleons" dub

Hi, I’m looking for the English dub for the brazillian cartoon “Zica e os Camaleões” (Zica and the Chameleons). It was aired and licensed by Nickelodeon Brazil in 2014, and TV Brasil from 2014 to 2017.
"Zica is a 14-year-old teenager who feels black and white in a colorful world. Zica seeks to assimilate the transition period she is experiencing through her art: she draws, writes and composes songs with her band formed with her best friend Gui and drummer Batata. When she is alone in her room, she usually talks and reflects with her three pet Chameleons. The episodes are divided between the "real world" in which she lives, the "creative world" that takes place in her room, and a video clip at the end of every episode." (Translated from the portuguese Wikipedia article about the show).
A fully dubbed episode 7 along with an english promo for the show was posted on the official Vimeo account for Cinema Animadores, the production company for the show. You can find those here and here. I couldn’t find any info about the voice actors or the company.
More info: The show was created after a short pilot aired on Anima TV 2010, a brazillian project organized by the government focused on highlighting and producing brazillian animations. There’s a brazillian article that mentions that the show was featured in an online version of a "Variety" magazine. Its official international release was done after MIPCOM in 2015, a french event to buy and sell new television shows for international distribution. (all info taken from the portuguese Wikipedia page)
It didn’t have a huge reception in Brazil as far as I’m aware (most people say it got cut short because of that), so it’s probably lost to time. I’ve tried e-mailing the production company for the show about it, still waiting for a response.
Sorry if some information is vague or worded weirdly, English isn’t my first language and it’s hard for me to understand some of this. And sorry if this is formatted incorrectly or doesn’t belong here, I’ll edit or take it down if needed! Thank you!

2024.05.21 18:55 Zerone06 Chinese Taoism holds a presence in Altaic mythology in the form of gender-based duality and creation

The famous symbol of Taoist cosmology, Yin and Yang, represents dualism in the principles of universal existence. But it also reflects the harmony within these two, that is, it also has a monistic side.
The Altaic creation saga is a cosmogonic "beginning of everything" text of the Turks and it contains elements influenced by Taoist principles.
Here is how it goes:
When there was nothing, there was only water. Ulgen was flying above the water, forever adrift, since there was no place to land. But one time, Ulgen heard a voice from within him, "Hold from below, grasp what lies before you!" With that, he reached out his hand. From the depths of the water, a piece of rock emerged. Ulgen alighted upon the land, but then he just rested on, for he knew not what to reach further. Then, Goddess Agine rose to the surface and adressed him: "Create, then! Say 'I did, it's done', or else, do not say 'I did, it's not done.'" And then, she disappeared. Leaving Ulgen alone with the deed of creation.
If we were talking about Greek mythology, this would probably end up in sex. But Agine enters the water and disappears, and the story continues in another way. Because Agine has fulfilled her role. Agine is the goddess who triggered Ulgen into creating. By saying "Say 'It's done,' or else, do not say 'It's not done,'" she teaches Ulgen to believe that something that is desired to happen will happen, in other words, affirmation, because cosmogonic texts (since everything is created for the first time) have an aspect of suggesting how the world should be. One other side is the power of logos But that's a whole another matter.
In short creation first comes from Agine here. Now, the connection of nature-related feminine energy and creation is not a first in mythology as it exists in almost every mythology, but here it's a bit different because Agine inspires the creator instead of, you know, taking from him and causing creation by herself. She inspires the act itself, now we can talk about the manifestation of a dual system of thought without relying on gender and birth as it usually happens in myths, but rather in a cosmological sense.
The heaven/earth concept is another concept of Turks which is also a part of this dual system of thought. In Chinese historical literature, we can see the term Tianxia (天下), which means everything under the sky. So there is sky, and then there is what's under it. This is highly related to the Mandate of Heaven so it's a concept of mythology as well. Again, the usual translation of Tian in Chinese is Heaven so it's a divine thing. And from the Turks they usually refer to sky as Tengri. Dots are already connecting.
Anyways, let's continue with the saga:
An entity named Erlik emerged. Ulgen asked him who he was. Erlik declared his desire to gather soil and fashion it into an earth of his own, but this intention of him angered Ulgen. Erlik said that he would bring the soil to him if he kept his anger, Ulgen calmed down. Erlik then brought the soil. Ulgen took the soil and shouted: "What I have done will be!" and a piece of land was formed before him. Then he sent Erlik back to the bottom of the water again. This time Erlik only delivered some of the soil, but kept a piece in his mouth. However, the soil that Erlik kept in his mouth also grew larger and got stuck in his throat. When Ulgen asked why he hid the soil, Erlik answered that he wanted to create a place for himself. Ulgen got furious at his yet again attempt to rival his divine self. With fury, he banished Erlik, declaring he will never be able come to the surface again. Thus, Erlik remained underground forever, spreading diseases, torturing dead souls, and unleashing his curse.
Now here it resembles Greek mythology indeed. Erlik is similar to Hades as his role is ruling the underworld as the god of evil. But still, is the concept here really the one and the same as the clash between Zeus and Hades?
The distinction between good and bad is existent here that is obvious. But hear this: Although Erlik and Ulgen seem to be enemies in principle, they are actually complementary to each other. They are the two faces of creation, two faces of the same coin, just like how it was with Agine. The conflict between them is essentially conflict of territorial dominance of creation. While Ulgen represented the sky, Erlik wanted to take the earth, but when he couldn't, he was sent underground. Erlik is a complementary element of the creation since without under what there is cosmos can't fully shape.
Here is the explanation of Yin and Yang from Encyclopedia Britannica: Yin is a symbol of earth, femaleness, darkness, passivity, and absorption. Yang is conceived of as heaven, maleness, light, activity, and penetration.
As you can see, Yin and Yang contain not one, but all what is opposite. Therefore, we can clearly see Erlik's position on the opposite side of Ulgen, who, as heaven, represents Yang's properties. Now there are strong theories that Tengrism is a pantheistic religion. In the believed cosmological model of the Tengrism, all shapes from a tree and all what existence reaches is essentially bucketed in one. The elements of the universe are all connected to each other. So, while the model is like this, factors like the creation being formed from great contrasts and the universe's being still representing those opposite powers inevitably reflects the Taoist principles here. After all, Yin and Yang stand for Earth and Sky as well. Which is a clear core in Turkic belief as it could be understood from Orkhon inscriptions.
The saga ends as it follows:
Before getting imprisoned in the depths of the world, Erlik yearned for the most little piece of soil. Ulgen initially hesitated, yet Erlik pleaded so much, eventually he granted him the soil. But when Ulgen asked him what was his intention with the soil, Erlik plunged into the water, vanishing from sight.
As you can see, Erlik is indeed holds a part of creation in himself. It can be understood from here that the duality used by the Turks in their conception of the universe and creation is not dichotomous, but rather a form of harmony, and that it is probably related to Yin and Yang.

2024.05.21 18:53 MEGAthemicro SYNERGY is cute and creative... but don't go in expecting much excitement.

I never expected to not like Synergy. After all, this eye-poppingly adorable survival city builder based on the supremely influential comic book illustrations of French artist Jean Giraud, AKA Moebius, is everything I want on paper. A rich and rarely seen visual rendering of a strange alien planet that—dare I say—synergizes nicely with its thoughtful and intricate resource gathering mechanics that encourage patient research and exploration effort rather than combat.
What’s not to love, right?
Well, after 10+ hours with Synergy, I am surprised and saddened to report that I find it all a bit... boring? You see, after the initial wave of art-induced infatuation wore off, I gradually began to realize that Synergy isn’t meant to simulate an intense, punishing, and consequently thrilling fight against the world’s harsh climate as is the case in games like Frostpunk and Against the Storm. Nor is it here to push you to your production-chain resource micromanagement limits as do games like Cartel Tycoon, The Settlers, and Pioneers of Pagonia. And, given Synergy's near total deemphasis on your city’s individuals, it's incapable of delivering those fun AI storylines seen in colony simulators like RIMWORLD and its upcoming medieval clone Norland.
Instead, Synergy is about the biggest number on the screen: your city’s prosperity score, which visualizes the city’s sustainability and well-being. Synergy wants your main focus to be basking in the wonderful art style as you build toward a beautiful, culture-rich utopia that doesn’t overexploit the world’s fragile ecosystem, which you can see grow and die in real time. Dealing with the harsh climate, producing enough food and water—these survival mechanics that drive other games are inconveniences in Synergy rather than the game’s deciding factors. Now, does this design decision mean the game is easy? Absolutely not, as there’s still plenty of depth here and still plenty of ways to screw things up (trust me). But don’t go in expecting an exhilarating experience, which is what I personally wanted.
That in mind, let’s get into the game.
GAMEPLAY & CONTENT
You’ll start out as you do in many survival city builders—with a store of starter resources and a handful of static, slowly starving settlers (poor little guys). However, after laying a building from your construction menu, your settlers will snap out of their comas and get right to work. After building early game structures like shelters, warehouses, and “picking cabins,” you’ll want to lay down a field lab so you can start researching the world’s strange plant life. These lab results will then inform you about the plant’s properties (e.g., is it edible?), as well as the different materials you can gather from it by either picking, trimming, or ripping the plant out of the ground entirely.
In between all of this rippin’ and tearin’, you’ll need to build a research center and start unlocking new buildings, like an infirmary to treat worn down workers, an arborist’s workshop to help replant whatcha de-plant, and an explorer’s hut from which you can launch expeditions into the unknown. Upon reaching a new area or point of interest, you’ll get a short text-based scenario and an RNG choice or two, but watch out because rolling the die can result in die-ing. Oh, and keep an eye out for ancient tablets along the way, as collecting and then translating them will unlock buffs for your village.
In other words... from an objectives and mechanics standpoint, Synergy is a lot like most of the survival city builders I’ve covered on this channel, albeit with an attractive and intuitive user interface that makes a fun little ASMR sound when you hover over it. I would like to see more map variety by 1.0, however, as the level designs currently feel pretty synonymous. Lastly, I didn’t encounter any figurative bugs in Synergy, though I do think the game would benefit from some literal ones—I just know my villagers must be tired of eating the same “watery pod” veggie pie every day, plus, this art style is simply begging for some colorful and creative Dr. Suess-esque animals.
CONCLUSION
I had originally planned on a longer review of Synergy, but the game’s text-based story in which you seek out fellow settlers and study the world’s strange glowing phenomenon doesn’t currently feel fleshed out enough to fairly score. So, we’ll give the game a subject-to-change aggregate MEGA score of 3.22/5 (full scoring breakdown available in video form on my profile) and plan on revisiting it closer to full release. Between now and then, I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the game or my review.
Thanks for reading!

2024.05.21 18:44 PomegranateOwn7886 The sopranos and medicine

Another shit post that might resonant with my gen X and older millennials redditors, (compared to the gen Z post). I've been re-watching the sopranos and realized how much it resonates with medicine.
Let me tell you a couple of three things
In the beginning Tony talks about how great it is to be in something from the ground up, and how "he came in the end and the best is over". I think most doctors agree that the golden age of medicine is long gone and not coming back.
Most people who get made have nepotistic ties to the mob. How many second, third and occasional fourth generation medics do we know? Dynasticism runs deep in both
Paulie counsels Chrissy "stay single as long as you can, our thing and marriage don't jive", and Sil retorts "everyone we know is married". Most medics I know after a certain age are married but as another redditor once put it "medical training is meant for a single early 20s workaholic with no caring commitments"
The idea of being "old school", its idolised and detracted in both the sopranos and medicine. We all hear about old school professors who still know how to formulate a diagnosis from a history/clinical exam and know all the physiology. Then there is a new generation who get criticized for not being like the older generation not learning the art of medicine properly. Similar to how everyone looks up to old school mobsters and criticise the new guys for being crew of cowards and hot heads. A lot of the old school rhetoric is romanticized in both medicine and the sopranos. Most old schools wise guys can't keep up with tony and most old school consultants trained in a more toxic culture and that toxicity is reflected on them (one "old school" doctor threatened to hit me for getting questions wrong when I was med student)
Tony is only successful compared to the old guys because he's figured out new income streams for the mob that they traditionally didn't engaged in. Today in medicine if you want to make it rich you have to market something unique you can't rely on traditional private practice (or for mobs protection money, loan sharking, and drug trafficking). All the talk about which specialty makes the most is pointless an NHS 10 PAs cardiologist is going to make less than an endocrinologist who has decided to locum on the acute take for 40 hours a week. Finding new niches is how people make money in the sopranos and the mob.
The analogy between the feds and the GMC, really what is is medicine except trying to avoid a GMC referral everyday. Defensive medicine is the order of the day, and we're more concerned with covering our selves then what's necessarily good practice. Being a rat and threatening a GMC referral aren't treated the same but the fear they put is analogous.
The increased number of medical students, similar to Philly complaining how they make anyone and everyone over their. We both having being made ceremonies (Hippocratic oath and the initiation ritual).
Tbh it's a facetious analogy and I'm sure you can make these comparison's to all professions, but I'm wondering if anyone who watched the show felt the same way.
Anyway four dollars a pound

2024.05.21 18:42 Cake_Bear I was dumped yesterday (a boring vent)

This’ll be a rather mundane vent on a non-dramatic breakup. I’m posting this as a method of self reflection to help cope.
I (40sM) dated her (40sF) for about six months exclusively, and I suppose this is around the time most relationships either progress or fizzle. Truth be told, I haven’t been thrilled with the relationship for the last few months, so this is likely a blessing in disguise. Still, it hurts.
We met on Bumble, she reached out first, and we had a six hour date the next day. We had a lot of differences - I have no kids (she’s a single mom of 2), I’m into fitness/martial arts (she walks and gardens), I’m a nerd/gamereadetech geek (she’s not any of those things). But we were both introverts, and we laughed a lot together. Since that first date, we were exclusive and spent a lot of time together. I loved her wit, she loved animals, and things seemed really fun at first.
The struggles began early. Even though I appear rather “masculine” (muscly, tattooed, ex Marine)…I’m actually quite sensitive. If you’re into MBTI, I’m an INFJ - A. She is quite clear in telling people that she’s insensitive, doesn’t have time for feelings, and can’t process her own. This should’ve been the first red flag where I cut and run. But I didn’t. I figured we’d talk through any issues that came up. I’ve been through therapy, have read self improvement/relationship counseling books, and I’ve done a lot of self work. She was very clear about the importance of stating issues and concerns clearly, and I like that.
Our relationship followed that standard, typical template of mismatched temperaments - things were great until a conflict. She’d do something insensitive, I’d get hurt, I’d try to talk it out, and she’d get explosively, angrily defensive - and completely unaware (or uncaring) of how that’d impact me. Sometimes it’d happen right away, other times we’d appear to have a calm discussion…only for me to get lashed out at the next day after she’d had time to think. She was blindly focused on being “right”, instead of understanding or compromise. Another red flag.
I wasn’t blameless - I can be overly sensitive, as she liked to tell me, and I enjoy semi frequent communication in between visits. We’d see each other on the weekends, and I wanted to stay connected during the week with texts. She felt put off by that, and would go a day or so without responding. When I brought it up, she’d get angry and say “I just don’t miss you that much during the week - I’m independent and I don’t need consistent communication”. Again, another clear sign of incompatibility. I need to pay attention to these things.
She felt smothered, I felt disconnected. So I pulled back, texted less, and kept my feelings to myself. I supported her through some big changes, and kept quiet about my own wants. Things went GREAT when I did that, as you can imagine. I tried to just focus on enjoying our time together, while pulling myself back when apart. I thought it might be good for me.
I should mention the dynamic of our relationship at this point. It was sorta…one-sided. She left the “honeymoon period” quicker than I did, and I became the driver for things. I also paid for most dates, cooked meals for her, drove her around (because she drove her kids all week)…she enjoyed me “taking care of her”. She introduced me to her friends (at her request), I’d help her with gardening and home projects, and I even helped her with work problems. Our conversations were primarily her venting and complaining. We live apart, and we spent weekends at her place because it’s bigger, has her dog, and it’s more private. My place is smaller, I have cats, and a roommate. I didn’t mind this arrangement - I enjoyed her company, she was affectionate, and we laughed a lot.
She never showed much of an interest in my things, to the point of “yeah, I hate gaming/am not a readethat’s kid stuff”. We did binge GoT, which I appreciated. She never expressed interest in my friends, who are also nerdy gamer friends. She’d offer to meet them if I wanted, but I never pushed it because she didn’t seem enthusiastic. I figured if she wanted to meet my friends, or stay at my place, she’d ask. Because she was always clear about “just say what you want”.
I’m sad, so I’m painting a one-sided picture here. I should note the fun times we had. We went to Vegas for a weekend, did E, and had a great time. I took her house sitting to my family’s beautiful coastal home, and we visited some of my childhood haunts and botanical gardens (she’s a plant fanatic). We took the train to a beach town, and spent a long weekend smoking pot and eating. We hiked, we took a lot of walks, we’d get stoned and watch laser shows. We’d wear pajamas, smoke pot, and binge tv while cooking stupid food.
She also has a lot of lovely characteristics. She’s hilarious and witty, she’s really intelligent about her hobbies/work, she’s very devoted to her friends and family, and she’s beautiful. She’d be considerate in small ways - picking up things at the store, etc. She also had a really busy life - two teens, a full time job, and a tight social/family circle. I never distrusted her, never worried about cheating or any of that stuff. She wasn’t physically affectionate, but would try to be because it’s important to me. She’d compliment me and say nice things.
She wasn’t a bad partner, and neither was I. But months of me keeping quiet about my feelings, recognizing her waning enthusiasm, and feeling dissatisfied in the relationship came to a head this weekend. I had some weird, confusing feelings about feeling taken advantage of, or at least putting in more effort than her - I wanted to process it more, but she wanted to talk. We had, what I thought, was a calm and open discussion. I never said that I don’t appreciate her, and I thought I reassured her. It seemed fine, I left, texting was fine.
Next morning she called me and dumped me. She pointed out all the things she done “for me”, like introducing me to her friends (I never asked for that, and I was generally excluded/ignored at gatherings), including me in her gardening (I don’t care about gardening, I took an interest to connect with her), spending weekends together (I also spent MY weekends with her, at her place, because she was more comfortable there). She got quite mad at the idea of me paying for things and driving, stating “I’ve never paid for any of my meals on a date”. She claimed I never let her into my life, introduced her to my friends, etc. She felt unappreciated, and like I was going to keep score.
I was shocked at her anger. It seemed to come out of nowhere, and if all these things were on her mind…why didn’t she communicate them? Had she asked, i would’ve scheduled a friend meet that week! I would’ve told her not to bother introducing me to her friends if she viewed it as a “favor” to me. Hell, any grievance she communicated in the past was dealt with immediately and decisively by me…so she knows I don’t fuck around.
She said she was done, I didn’t want to end things in an ugly manner so I told her I loved her, she’s a beautiful person, and I hope she finds what she wants. I sent a final text apologizing for any hurt, and other kind things. She sent a LONG, dumping text basically shitting on me. I sent another kind “I’m sorry for any hurt I caused, you’re a wonderful person, I wish you well”. Then I blocked her.
It’s like a gut punch. I know I could’ve handled things better, and she definitely could’ve. It’s clear that she wanted a low maintenance partner, and I wanted a reciprocal equal partner. She needs to do some work on her temper and conflict issues, and I need to be more discerning and aware of red flags early.
Thank you for reading, it helps to write this all down.
