fonts to outline glitch
Not sure if this is a good place to ask ... but why when i am Outlining a font in illustrator (looks fine in .ai) but when i make a pdf file some of the letters get bolder like the 'L' font in this sample. Is it the font i'm using ? which i can't change. Or something I need to turn of / off in preferences ? could use some help figuring this out. I would rather supply a pdf file rather then a jpg. (doesn't happen there).

2024.05.21 16:56 ProtonPackGuy Things I Learned from a Week with SNV4

Hey y’all, I picked up a Qui-Gon Jinn and Kestis Fallen Order hilt from TXQ recently, wanting to finally upgrade from my Xeno2 hilt. Overall impressions are very positive. I’ve always been a little apprehensive about trying out Proffie: I’m pretty tech savvy but there’s still a learning curve to get adapted to. I have no doubt I’ll eventually take the plunge, but for now I had one mission: get a good hilt at a good price and have a pretty customizable option.
So am I happy with SNV4?
Yeah, I love this thing. The app is very functional and usable. The learning curve was very soft and anyone who is willing to put in an hour of effort with FrugalJedi on YouTube can figure out how to make it all work. The blade effects you can get are very impressive, and I’ve experienced only the occasional jitter from sound effects that were fixed by a quick shut down. The smooth swing algo needs work, but it seems better than it was originally.
Here’s some tips that will save you some serious time:
  1. Do not even attempt to connect to the app without doing the firmware update. Find them from FrugalJedi on YouTube or from the link in point 3. Once you do that, you won’t ever have an issue connecting, or at least I haven’t. Connection is rock solid and my edits always send.
  2. SNV4 does take Proffie fonts, but some are more problematic than others. Kyberphonic, KSith, and Jaydalorian loaded immediately with no problems. BK Saber Sounds was tricky and took me a solid 2 hours to figure out: the high quality wav formats will not be read by the saber stock. This is something to do with being in a mono 32bit encode when it should be a 16bit. You’ll need to download audacity if and manually convert each file to this configuration for the sounds to play properly. I tried multiple other ways to get around this “busy work”. I tried converting the Xeno3, Golden Harvest to Proffie using the always wonderful SoundFontNamingConverter and that didn’t work. And neither did the convert audio function. Only when I manually changed the track using the audio editing software did these fonts work.
  3. Please download the wonderful u/B0BA_F33TT ‘s SN-Pixel v4 2 style pack from here.
https://www.reddit.com/lightsabers/comments/18q64df/snpixel_v4_2023_xmas_gift_27_unique_hum_styles/
It was a wonderful eye opener to the flexibility of this board and will get you looking and feeling spiffy with a simple drop in fix.
  1. Download the upgraded voice pack from FrugalJedi. He’s put in the leg work and made the voice for the saber much more usable and friendly.
Conclusion: the board has been very kind to me and have spent an hour every day playing with effects. The flexibility is immense and while not quite endless like Proffie, I’ve never had more fun with a tech toy.
Thanks for reading, hope this helps if you’re new, and most importantly: may the force be with you.

2024.05.21 16:48 UMJaved What is the best way to create custom visualizations in Power BI?

Creating custom visualizations in Power BI involves several steps and methods, depending on the level of customization and the type of visual you want to create.
Here are some of the best approaches:

1. Using Custom Visuals from AppSource

Power BI AppSource is a marketplace where you can find a wide variety of pre-built custom visuals created by Microsoft and third-party developers. To use these visuals:
For Example "Sankey Diagram for Power BI by ChartExpo", "Comparison Bar Chart for Power BI by ChartExpo" , "Likert Scale Chart for Power BI by ChartExpo" and "Multi-Axis Line Chart for Power BI by ChartExpo"
  1. Go to the Visualizations pane in Power BI Desktop.
  2. Click on the three dots (…) and select “Get more visuals.”
  3. Browse or search for the visual you need.
  4. Add the visual to your report and configure it as required.

2. Creating Custom Visuals with R or Python

Power BI supports custom visuals created using R and Python, which are powerful for advanced analytics and custom visualizations.
  1. Enable R or Python scripting:
    • Go to File > Options and settings > Options > R scripting or Python scripting.
    • Set up the R or Python environment if you haven’t already.
  2. Add a visual:
    • Click on R or Python visual from the Visualizations pane.
    • Write your R or Python script in the script editor. The script should generate a plot using libraries such as ggplot2 for R or matplotlib for Python.
  3. Load data into the visual using the data fields, and Power BI will execute the script to render the visual.

3. Building Custom Visuals with Power BI Developer Tools

For highly customized visuals, you can use the Power BI Developer Tools to create visuals using JavaScript and TypeScript.
  1. Set up the development environment:
    • Install Node.js and npm.
    • Install the Power BI Visuals Tools: npm install -g powerbi-visuals-tools.
  2. Create a new visual project:
    • Use the command: pbiviz new to create a new custom visual project.
    • Navigate to the project directory: cd .
  3. Develop the visual:
    • Modify the source code in the /src directory. You can use D3.js or any other JavaScript library to create your visual.
  4. Test the visual:
    • Use pbiviz start to run a local server that allows you to test your visual in Power BI.
  5. Package and deploy the visual:
    • Use pbiviz package to create a .pbiviz file.
    • Import this file into Power BI by selecting Import from file under the Visualizations pane.

4. Using Power BI Themes and Custom Formatting

For custom styling and formatting, you can create a Power BI theme file (JSON) to define colors, fonts, and other visual styles.
  1. Create a JSON theme file with custom color palettes and formatting options.
  2. Import the theme into Power BI:
    • Go to Home > Switch Theme > Import Theme.
    • Select your JSON file to apply the custom theme to your report.

are these numbers readable?
so I just got these coordinates yesterday and I liked them at first but now I'm not so sure. the numbers seem a bit too thick and uneven. I've gotten other work done by this artist and it's been amazing so far–I'm thinking the font I chose was not the right one for my taste, the placing was a bit tricky as it's over some stretch marks... perhaps it's not his best work either. am I just overthinking? could I get them fixed in the future by another artist?

2024.05.21 16:09 ThatAuthorNicol Advice on EPub formatting

Hello! I have three finished manuscripts (fantasy novels) which I have formatted in PDF for printing. The novels include a few pictures (outside the main text), as well as a unique font for the chapter titles and a few poems within the story. The specific font in question is important to the overall story, so I would like to keep it at all costs. Problem is, obviously a flexible EPub format will not maintain the same font on all devices/e-readers. With the images I could include them as separate files in the purchase of the E-Book, but the font is a big problem.
I saw another post that recommended putting the chapter titles in as images but A) how would I know the image dimensions required? and B) is adding images practical to a flexible layout?
So, my question here is, what to I do? Do I accept defeat and sell the E-Books in PDF only? With PDF I have piracy concerns (as well as the fact that E-Book readers don't seem to like them compared to EPubs).
TIA!

2024.05.21 15:53 OscillatorDrift I asked Preplexity "What are the least loved synthesisers according to Reddit?" I think answer quite spot on. But it seems colour is an important decision factor :)

Based on the discussions from various Reddit threads, several synthesizers are frequently mentioned as being the least loved or most disliked by users. Here are some of the synthesizers that have garnered negative opinions:

Least Loved Synthesizers

  1. Roland EG-101
    • Described as a "horrific monstrosity" and often criticized for its design and functionality.
  2. Cheetah MS800
    • Known for being "one of the most annoyingly complicated instruments on the planet," with only Aphex Twin managing to make an album using it.
  3. Polymoog
    • Particularly the Polymoog Keyboard, which is criticized for its limited editing capabilities and being a "maintenance time bomb" due to its unreliability and complexity.
  4. Beat Thang
    • A drum machine/sampler that is often described as a "total mess" and one of the ugliest pieces of hardware, with neon blue design that is hard on the eyes.
  5. Korg Poly 800
    • Often mentioned as a synth that sounds worse than modern plug-ins, with users expressing regret over its purchase.
  6. Korg EA-1 Electribe
    • Criticized for producing "awful noises" and being limited to basic subtractive synth sounds, with any attempt to tweak resulting in a "horrid shrill mess".
  7. Roland MC-505
    • Users dislike the replacement of knobs and sliders with a giant touchpad called the "D-Field," and its bright orange color.
  8. Mopho
    • Described as the "ugliest synth" due to its yellow rigs, uninspiring gray rectangles, and gaudy font, making it physically painful to look at.

Common Complaints

These synthesizers have been highlighted by users for various reasons, ranging from poor design and sound quality to complex interfaces and maintenance issues.

2024.05.21 15:52 Aggietallboy Looking for Guidance on fixing StarUI - Any SWF folks who can offer insight?

Howdy All!
Unfortunately m8r98a4f2 is MIA, and his phenomenally excellent StarUI series of mods are stuck in limbo.
Hope (s)he's OK, and comes back to us soon!!
I've done a *little* poking around, and I'm absolutely amazed by how clever the StarUI mod is.
It doesn't "cheat" at all, as far as the system is concerned, because it replaces the animation files (.swf) that drive the menus -- no console commands or anything -- clever as hell!
I was able to use JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler to look through the mod (still haven't figured out everything I did to get to that point -- I was throwing a font error originally)
I don't know how to fix the HUD (yet) but I have some idea on the Shipbuilder:
There seem to be three areas of the ActionScripts:
ShipPartData - Seems to be a library mapping FormID's to their relevant Hull/Mass/PoweDamage etc...
ShipPartInfoFetcher and ShipVariantInfoFetcher LOOK like they might feed this ShipPartData construct, but I haven't poked through to see everything that's happening.
MAYBE this is enough for some of you out there who do this stuff regularly to go "oh heck yeah, I can fix this in 10 minutes!!"
But I don't have any experience editing SWF's and my JPEXS is crashing (can it even upload changes back??)
Any insight from y'all on 1) -- is m8r ok?? and 2) how do we carry this on if they've decided to move on? Anyone with the SWF background that would consider describing how they'd go about applying the fix?
Basics that I could think of:
How do we get the FormID's for all the new habs? -- This seems to be the only part that's really breaking.
I would suggest that ShipPartInfoFetcher at least is working (mostly) -- as the mod works with DerreTech and Darkstar Astrodynamics, and it does well with variants from Darkstar -- so the ability to dynamically get the info without the formid's all prepopulated into ShipPartData has to be at least partially working, unless I completely understand how those two built their parts.
There's PROBABLY a flag in the empty habs that needs to be accounted for (BGS could've done something like create a new variant on the parent formid that can only differentiate itself with this new flag??) which would suggest that the ShipVariantInfoFetcher is where we need the most attention.
How would you go about debugging this? What can you do to get verbose/debug logs out of the SWF?
How would you update the SWF with the modified ActionScripts?
Thanks y'all!!!

2024.05.21 15:28 Imaginary-Prize-9589 Design House Vendor Relationship - Font Licensing

Hi -
I have been in this field 10+ years and haven't quite dealt with anything like this
Our organization's brochure is based on the branding work our design vendor did for our website - now the problem is that our vendor has been refusing to update our brochure, saying the printer should do this. Even though in the past, they would just update our brochure annually and send it over within a day or two.
We have 3 fonts in our brand design that require licensing, which means that I will have to purchase licensing for these 3 fonts in order to get our brochure printed - even though in past years this has never been an issue.
WTF is going on here? Why won't this firm simply update our brochure? Is the licensing of these fonts an issue for them? Why after 2 years are they making me do this? I really don't want to spend $100+ to license these fonts. I've never had to deal with something like this from a vendor and it's really souring our relationship. I have even sent emails asking to be charged for the 3 minutes of work. It often takes them weeks to respond
Does anyone have any insight to this?
TLDR; Design vendor refuses to update brochure and is forcing me to license fonts instead of providing a finished PDF like they have in the past

2024.05.21 15:16 authrop My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.

My setup for Ironsworn - a long road to finding a flow.
I discovered Ironsworn a few years back during a Print-and-play / Solo gaming phase brought about due to the pandemic lockdown. I had played and enjoyed Four Against Darkness and quickly started looking for something else to scratch the Solo RPG/Gaming itch. Ironsworn seemed really interesting for a number of reasons:
  1. The narrative first approach interested me as someone who has enjoyed creative writing forever but lacked the focus to actually sit down and do it regularly.
  2. The very relaxed attitude to the setting. The Ironlands felt like it was as much a jumping off point for world creation as an interesting world to explore. The Your Truths exercise only increased this feeling and was a joy to complete on its own, even without playing the game.
  3. The extremely well written (Free!) rulebook which quickly became something I read to relax, again without even begining to play the game.
  4. The Oracles felt incredible to roll on and discover new exciting and unexpected avenues for storytelling.
Despite all of this interest, I initially struggled to get a campaign off the ground. I would enjoy creating the world and a character but then after a brief start, lose interest in my personal journey and return back to looking at the rulebook or finding other resources available, or watching Me, Myself and Die! or some other, much more practised, solo player.
I think the reason for this was that I didn't have a set method for actually playing the game. I would switch between: messing with Roll20 or Ironjournal, jotted down notes in a notepad, using a word document on my laptop and various other ways as I basically procrastinated actually making headway in my story. Even printing and organising the Lodestar reference book along with various cheatsheets in a nice folder for eventual use once I stopped dithering about. In the end, it got shelved. Always in the back of my mind and never completely forgotten but not touched for a couple of years.
Then recently I got an urge and had a quick glance through the rulebook PDF which was on my phone and I realised something I should have known all along; Ironsworn isn't a strict, crunchy system but a tool for personal storytelling and to relax into it.
So after rereading the entire rulebook (haha, of course! I love that thing) and also looking into the newer version of Ironjournal, I started and it's even better than I imagined once everything starts to flow and analysis paralysis fades.
My current setup is:
• A tablet (less distractions than a laptop) and a Bluetooth keyboard (for faster typing and easier access to formatting controls).
• The newer Ironjournal open in split screen with a Google document - I use Ironjournal for the truths, the character sheet and progress tracks, map and location/NPC tracking. The Google doc is for the my campaign journal as I can have a nicer, more novel-like font (helps me alot for all types of writing) and also allows me to format it clearer between narrative and mechanics over the inbuilt journal function of IJ.
• After using the inbuilt dice rolleoracle roller in IJ for a short while, I have switched to psychical dice and a dice tray and I now refer to my stats and the oracles in Eric Bright's Expanded Oracles document (which now includes Shawn Tomkins original oracles as well). Manually making the calculations and assessing the results. - Although this method is slightly longer, it seems to produce better narrative discussions for me rather than the extremely quick way in which IJ throws the results at you.
• I also have the rulebook PDF open as a pop out for reference along with the Expanded Oracles PDF.
• Finally, something I have discovered and I find interesting is using the UNE (Universal NPC Emulator) and BOLD (Book of Legends and Deeds) both by the late Zach Best. I believe these pre-date Ironsworn by a good 10 years and in someway do a similar job as some of IS's oracles but there is something about the structure and the results being framed as a leading question I find helpful and exciting.
All in all, I think I've found a good workflow to progress stories and enjoy the system (finally!).
Next upgrades on my list are:
• To become familiar with Delve and introduce that - I have the PDF and have read a large chunk of it but haven't bit the bullet and used it (I also haven't felt the base game lacking or the need for more as of yet).
• To get some heavy metal dice as the tactile element of them appeals to me in a way I can't quite explain (haha!).
• To become more familiar with how best to map out or otherwise create visual counterparts for my adventures, either using AI image generation or something else. Currently using a generated village map from Watabou's Procgen Arcana as a starting point for my characters home village.
Any advice or things that people have found to be personally beneficial in getting and keeping your games interesting and flowing well would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if I wrote this post for advice or to simply consolidate my relationship with the Ironsworn system for myself. Either way, here is it!

2024.05.21 14:50 CapSuspicious1018 My Review of the xTool D1 Pro 10W Laser Engraver

My Review of the xTool D1 Pro 10W Laser Engraver
I just wanted to share my thoughts on the xTool D1 Pro 10W Laser Engraver, especially since I've had the chance to use it for a bit now. This machine has been a game-changer for my projects, and I think it’s worth talking about if you’re considering diving into laser engraving or looking to upgrade your current setup.
https://preview.redd.it/ue2cz5d21s1d1.png?width=924&format=png&auto=webp&s=45d12033d52ab3724b09385ac97e5019c319bb3b

Speed and Efficiency

First off, this thing is FAST. The engraving speed of 24,000mm/m (which translates to about 400mm/s) really boosts productivity. It's perfect for batch engraving and quick customizations, which is a huge plus if you’re running a small business or a side hustle.

Versatility

The 4-in-1 rotary attachment is a standout feature. I’ve used it on a bunch of materials – wood, metal, acrylic, leather, even glass. It handles curved surfaces like a champ, so customizing items like wine glasses and tumblers is a breeze. If you love DIY projects, the possibilities with this machine are endless.

User-Friendly

For those of us who aren’t tech wizards, the xTool D1 Pro is surprisingly easy to use. The installation process was straightforward, and it comes with built-in safety features like a flame sensor and X&Y axis limit switches. This makes it not only safe but also more reliable, as it helps prevent collisions and other mishaps.

Precision and Power

The laser power is impressive – 10W output and 60W machine power ensure precise, clean cuts and engravings. It can cut through 6mm basswood or 5mm black acrylic in one pass, which is pretty awesome. The precision (0.08*0.06mm laser spot) allows for detailed and intricate designs, making your projects look professional.

Software

The xTool Creative Space software is intuitive and comes with tons of ready-to-make projects, elements, and fonts. If you prefer, it also supports LightBurn software. I found the customization options fantastic for personalizing gifts and creating unique items for home decor, office organization, and more.
Overall, the xTool D1 Pro 10W Laser Engraver is a solid investment. It’s efficient, versatile, and user-friendly, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced engravers. If you’ve been on the fence about getting a laser engraver, I highly recommend giving this one a shot.

2024.05.21 14:31 DonMatteoh Help me Place this UN Euroclone

Help me Place this UN Euroclone
So today I got this SPECTACULAR UN Euroclone from a collector after months of trying to find one. Comes from the wars on Bosnia as it belonged most likely to a UNPROFOR soldier. This was a dream I had since I started collecting and I can't even begin to express my joy. My question is: I'd like to give the helmet a nationality, problem is I'm no expert in euroclones. I know it's not dutch as the Dutchbat used kevlar helmets and I know it's not from any other ex-ussr place as they used ssh-68. My speculation is this is either Austrian or Canadian, probably the latter given the position and font of the stickers. Can anyone help me with effectively giving this bad boy a nationality? Is it even possible? Shot some pics of the details for you to see :)

Hi folks Hope you all are having a great day.
I’m new to e-ink e-readers. Now I am in confusion just like most of you.
I really like kobo Clara colour because of the device size and colourful e e-ink display, but also I do not want to compromise the brightness of regular BW e-ink display because normal books and fonts look sharp and crisp on BW screen where the colour e-ink has the darker matte type of finish because of the kaleido filter as you all know.
Now Amazon is selling kindle 11th gen BW (used) for CAD$97.49+tax here where Clara colour is $179.99+tax. with taxes the price difference is nearly 92 bucks (which is the price of another BW kindle)
I’m a university student. So, saving money is always the most preference. (in the long run)
I have a lot of docs and pdf to read as well so I will need to sideload a lot.
I have Libby too so this might help to borrow books but there is an option “send to kindle” which can be used for kindles too.
Now should I get a Clara colour or Kindle 11th gen?
(Used market such as fb marketplace etc. here in my town sucks because people asking CAD$80-90 bucks for older generation of basic kindles with lower storage. So, that’s not a reliable option here.)

Hello, is there a way to control a servo motor with a True/False statement like when its true the servo is set at 90° if false then at 0°. Using it on a object detection code. Also I'm using the gpiozero library. TYIA to whoever answers.
Here is the code:
import cv2 from gpiozero import AngularServo from time import sleep

Unveiling the Power of Vinyl Car Wraps

Vinyl car wraps offer a multitude of advantages for businesses:
  • Brand Awareness: A captivating car wrap emblazoned with your logo and brand message becomes a rolling advertisement, generating brand recognition wherever it travels.
  • Cost-Effective Marketing: Compared to traditional advertising methods, vinyl car wraps offer a long-lasting and cost-effective way to promote your business.
  • Targeted Reach: Your wrapped vehicle reaches a broad audience, particularly in areas with high traffic. Potential customers who might not have seen your storefront are exposed to your brand.
  • Versatility: Vinyl car wraps can be completely customized to match your brand identity, incorporating vibrant colors, high-resolution graphics, and even your contact information.
  • Vehicle Protection: High-quality vinyl acts as a shield, protecting your car's paint from scratches, fading, and minor road debris.

A Spectrum of Options: Exploring Different Types of Vinyl Car Wraps

Not all vinyl car wraps are created equal. Here's a breakdown of some popular choices:
  • Full Car Wraps: This comprehensive option covers the entire vehicle, transforming it into a complete branded canvas. It's ideal for maximum brand visibility.
  • Partial Car Wraps: For a more subtle approach, consider partial wraps that cover specific sections like the hood, doors, or trunk. This allows for targeted messaging and cost savings.
  • Spot Wraps: Perfect for highlighting logos, slogans, or contact information, spot wraps target smaller areas like bumpers, windows, or mirrors.
Beyond these, consider options like clear wraps for a subtle protective layer or color-change wraps for a complete aesthetic makeover.

Demystifying Materials: Choosing the Right Vinyl for Your Wrap

The quality and durability of your vinyl car wrap depend on the chosen material. Here are some common options:
  • Monomeric Vinyl: This budget-friendly option is ideal for short-term wraps or vehicles with minimal exposure to the elements.
  • Polymeric Vinyl: Offering superior durability and flexibility compared to monomeric vinyl, polymeric vinyl is perfect for long-term wraps and vehicles exposed to harsh weather conditions.
  • Cast Vinyl: The top-tier choice for high-performance wraps, cast vinyl offers exceptional conformability, making it ideal for wrapping complex curves and contours of a vehicle.
Consult with a professional vinyl wrap installer to determine the best material for your specific needs and budget.

  • Visual Appeal: High-quality graphics and compelling visuals attract attention and make your wrap stand out from the crowd.

2024.05.21 11:33 noprogressfr A truly, truly customizable codeblock/admonition/widget/styledtext/anything ?

I've searched for hours, no, days. Asked chatgpt a million times. So far my findings haven't gotten me a clean, customizable block in that markdown. That fit what I wanted, which is rather abstract but, literally just a sort of styled block, or frame, or widget or something, that's very customizable, like the background image, the borders being a certain way. Maybe even a sizable custom table?
And I was under the impression that with all this customization that's possible, and all this HTML and CSS stuff, surely it could be possible. Hell there's even iframes that let me put a literal INTERACTIVE MAP. Surely there's a css code or html thing or whatever that let's me achieve this? And if I use an image, how can I customize the the font, background etc? width, height, framing...
I've tried iframe, html, metadata, css, static site... I think I'm gonna just make an image.

2024.05.21 11:22 Clucasinc Return Manuscript Replica - Help

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone who has previously recreated the manuscripts from scratch on word could help me. Looking for the exact setting like font, size, if the text needs to be centred, spaces between lines etc. tried myself but can’t seem to get it right and wanted to have something fun to do during my spare time instead of just printing off a PDF copy.
Many thanks in advance.
