Florida Heat and Drought

2024.05.21 11:50 luvpats101 Florida Heat and Drought

Why is is so hot and dry this summer to far in Florida? Besides the obvious (climate change), what is the meteorological explanation for why it’s extremely hot and dry. We are in the Tampa area, and last summer was the driest and hottest summer I’ve ever experienced in the ten years I’ve lived here. It’s almost June and we really haven’t had much rain at all, and it’s frequently been in the mid 90s, which is highly unusual for this early in the year? Is it because we are still in an El Niño?

What kind of roach is this
Which kind of roach is this? In Tampa Florida. Shows up in drains upstairs AND downstairs. What can I do to get them out of the drains? Already bought harris tablets and motels. I had left a quarter of a granola bar in my room and this showed up on my nightstand. How are they likely getting into the drains? Thanks
PS are the antennas normally that long?

2024.05.21 02:20 tejojo 27 [M4F] [Tampa/Online] Seeking a genuine connection

I'm 27 years old (turning 28 in two weeks), and live just outside of Tampa, FL. I've never had a serious relationship before, and I'm looking to start as friends before possibly developing into something more profound. I'm looking for someone who is genuinely sweet, caring, honest, and overall fun to be with.
I work as a front desk agent at a popular resort hotel in the Tampa area, and have a Bachelors degree in Hospitality Management from Florida International University. I currently live with my family, and I'm working on saving up to move out on my own. In my free time, I enjoy visiting theme parks (I have annual passes for Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World), watching movies, cooking, and taking photographs. I also love travel.
I'm half Cuban/half white, 5' 10", and chubby (but actively losing weight). I don't smoke, and I only drink very occasionally. An ideal first date for me would be a day at any of the Orlando area theme parks, or something as simple as dinner or a movie. My DMs are open, so I hope to hear from you soon!

2024.05.20 21:39 theblondetripet What is this bug?

What is this bug?
I found a bunch of these dead little bugs so small I can barely make them out. I live in Tampa, Florida. They were in the bottom of the plastic office bins. I have next to my desk. All dead. There was a termite infestation in this room about five years ago, but these drawers were cleaned after that was taken care of. I do not see any wing scouts or bugs in any of the materials that were in the drawers (paper, binders, general office supplies) sadly I do know what termite scouts (the winged ones) look like and I don’t think it’s that. Not in first photo I am not talking about spider All bugs are dead!

2024.05.20 20:18 AlexanderShaneyfelt Advice for Cross Country Keyboard Transport

Hi, as the text suggests I'm looking for advice to get my electronic keyboard shipped across the United States. It's a Roland RD2000, with dimensions according to Sweetwater, of height: 5.56", width: 55.62", depth: 14.50", weight: 47.87 pounds. I do not own a travel case/hard case. I'm going from Boston Massachusetts to Tampa Florida. Would it be more affordable to check it onto my flight or have it shipped? Should I get a case for it and if so which do you recommend? Any other advice and recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks!

2024.05.20 20:06 FixlyBarnes Capitalism for Christ

Today’s WSJ (20 May 2024) - “Church Startups Spread Franchise Model Across U.S.” Aaron Burke, a former used-car salesman, started his own church, “Radiant Church,” in a rundown movie theater in Tampa, Florida with funds, among other sources, from Association of Related Churches (aka ARC). The deal is they give you an interest-free loan in return for a cut of your future revenues. Burke now has nine churches with average attendance of 8,000. ARC is basically a church investment firm.
“The ‘church-planting’ networks, established as non-profit organizations, deploy marketing, branding and social-media strategies akin to other franchise businesses.”
“ARC has started 1,114 churches in the U.S. and abroad since 2001.”
“Radiant took in nearly $18M last year in tithes and special offerings. It paid $248,000 to ARC and individual church startups. Radiant spend $3.4M for its expansion, $6.2M on operations and $5.7M for personnel.”
“ARC said it had $16.8M in revenue during 2022, the most recent year is has released figures…”
The story goes on to explain how the church sets up marketing, polish their image, devise simple sermons on easy-to-understand non-controversial topics, etc. Church attendance overall is falling, but these capitalist churches take members from the little churches lacking amenities and showtime glitz.
One of the newspaper pictures shows at least three church-goers who can’t get both praise hands up because they’re holding a beverage in the other hand.
That’s a pretty good gig. Think about it. You start your own church, so you can’t get fired. Its yours. It might be literally yours if you have the property in your name or your company/partnership name. And you can take whatever salary you want and don’t have to let the flockers know. All tax-free. And the customers can't complain of failing to uphold a bargain because they would have to come back from the dead. But I’m sure none of the people involved are in it for the money. No, its for the Lord.

2024.05.20 19:07 Knowsekr 38[M4F] #Tampa, Florida. Looking for companionship

Hello,
I figured I would give this a try. The truth is, I am tired of the dating apps. I am almost tempted to just give up on dating entirely. I get a lot of matches, and I go on a lot of dates, but I am not really happy.
The way I like to date, is to find someone that Im attracted to, and agree with on values and lifestyle choices... and then I commit to that person, because thats how I feel love should be. Love is more a choice in my opinion, than it is a feeling. Feelings do matter, but you wont just date someone, and immediately fall in love (if you do, then I dont think thats actually love).
The problem with the dating apps, is we have so many options, we find it hard to commit, and if we do end up committing, we end up feeling like we are missing out on someone better. Is that how love should ever be? I dont think so. It should never be like that.
Anyway, just wanted to throw all of that out there, because thats truly how I feel about all of this. Its impossible for me to share that on any dating app profile. I dont even think anyone will actually read any of this, but if you do... those are my thoughts.

Anyway... about me...
I am financially secure, working fully remotely, and live in my townhome with my dog. I own a jetski (although I dont use it enough), and I love being on the beach when I can get a group of people to go. I genuinely love almost all activities... whether thats going skiing, traveling to somewhere new, trying crazy new food, watching a great new series, cooking, board games, video games... whatever... I am happy, as long as I am doing something with people that I like being around.
My main hobby right now, is pickleball. I love playing this sport, and I want to get a lot better at it. I also play ping pong, and I am reallllly good at that. I also just started getting into the gun range, and its fun with the right people, kinda scary for me still, but its something new, ill give it a try.
Politically, I am 100% left leaning, but a very independent thinker. You wont just get me to agree on anything just because of the people suggesting it being a D or R. I dont give a damn about their party. I care about what I care about, and I will independently come to my own conclusions. When I was younger, I was a lot more vocal about my thoughts on politics, but now I dont discuss it openly too much anymore. Politics is kinda toxic in this country. If it were entirely up to me, I would cancel the entire political party idea.
I want to find my partner for life. I want to get married. I am very open to children (if they are my own, not step-children). I can be hard headed on a lot, but I am also very open minded on a lot too. The key is 100% communication, and trust. I will never have expectations that I did not communicate.... expectations like that are toxic as hell. I expect you not to cheat on me... I expect you to respect our relationship... etc... If I felt one way or another about something, I will let it be known.
My loyalty is guaranteed, because Ive been cheated on before, and that destroyed me. I would not even wish that on my worst enemy.

Especially amongst this crowd, but I don’t mind Florida growing. Cities like Orlando and Tampa are so much better than when I left 20 yrs ago. They have actual food scenes now and I’m super excited with how downtown Tampa and the waterfront is being developed.
I’d love to see the rail system done and accessible though.
