2024.05.20 00:03 Silly_Translator_262 Can’t wait for summer break

It’s not that my high school is particularly good or bad it’s that I am sick of 7 hours (plus a total transportation time of 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours) being tossed into the void. I don’t feel like what I do at my school is helping me become a better person. By the time I get back I am fairly exhausted plus some homework. Doing the things I love/need to do to improve as a person is difficult(trying meditation, workouts, reading, writing, art) I say this to everyone but I would take a extra weekend day off each school week even if you had to subtract that from summer break. I just have constant anxiety of sorts when I think of it. Same as last year this is around the time when I get to a breaking point. I just want more time to myself. Damn evolution needing me to be comatose for a third of my life.

2024.05.19 20:19 CashTheRedditor studying advice?

hi everyone! I’m a first year CS major who needs some help and advice.
I want to start this by saying I am NOT looking for any kind of grade grubbing or handouts from my professors; I have three weeks until my finals, and I want to get myself back on track.
high school was always quite easy for me, even when I did 11 APs; so, when people told me college would be a slap in the face, I didn’t believe them. I was very wrong. because my education has only become difficult in the past few months or so, I haven’t really developed too many good study habits, and I feel very lost and worried for finals week. I know what I should be doing, I just don’t fully know the means to get there.
I’m taking a stats class, intro to DSA, and an assembly programming course (and a history class I’m not worried about). I’ve found that I’m simply not retaining information like I used to, and my performance on the quizzes and midterms has been declining. how do/did y’all study for these sorts of exams? practice? studying notes from lectures and reading?
I really, really hope this doesn’t come across as too juvenile or that I’m somehow trying to make a pity party. I know CS will be difficult, but it’s hard to make good preparations when you don’t fully understand just how difficult it will be. right now, I’m cruising at around a high B or low A level, and I would like to keep it that way. I want to plant the seeds for a good and productive education.
thank you!

2024.05.19 19:45 Acceptable-Street709 I’m 18 and i think i’m pregnant… how to go about things.

clarification: we are both trans. I’m ftm (18m) and she’s mtf (20f) so no one gets confused. refrain from responding if you’re transphobic…
i just need some input on my plans encouragement or something this was not planned at all but i want to take responsibility and go about things the best way i can.
She’s fully on board with keeping it and i’m 90% i want to too but she says she will support if i decide to get an abortion. She works full time, and im in school full time. ( Online self pace high school ) Also going to an online self paced university after i finish. I had already been planning on finishing my accounting degree in 6 months so i think my career plans fit well into things. I live with my sister and her and my partner don’t want me to work while pregnant. If my sister buys her home in the next 9 months i’ll stay there with her and my partner. If she doesn’t then i’ll move in with my partner at her moms which is an hour away from me. Aside from my sisters support i will more than likely have support from my nana and my dad.
things have been so good between me and her since day one. I am so glad that she’s the one that this is happening with. Am i crazy for thinking about marriage? we had already been talking about future plans and wanting to be married in the future before this. We also will be starting therapy. what are some other things i need to think about?
sorry if this was all over the place i don’t even know what im asking im in shock.

2024.05.19 19:33 PrestigiousLimee Just want to put my thoughts out there

I (25M) been feeling down most of the time since the past few years. I’m from a family na magulo, like as in magulo. I grew up without my parents, dad (eldest child) died when i was still months old out of the womb and my mom left me sa family ng dad ko. So I basically grew up with my lolo. (First grandchild)
My lolo is good naman but he has anger issues, if you can call it that. He gets angry most of the time even with the most smallest things, during those moments na he is angry he says things that really hurt you. We all experience this, family namin and even mga people na who works with him. Parang common thing na siya and accepted na ng tao around him.
Si lolo meron siyang 4 children, not including my dad and other aunt who passed away na. They all have their own problems that we, people around them(me and my cousins), have to deal with.
The 2nd eldest sa mag siblings was a former addict. Leeching off sa status ni lolo. Very pangit ang ugali. Mayabang. Most toxic traits na you can think off he probably have those. (All of them have) And most of my cousins are his children from different partners he had and we still have some cousins na we don’t know of or di lang namin kasama cos he has a lot of children. He currently is living with his partner, they have 2 kids but of course meron siyang another partner on the side, he even brought the other girl with us during our family vacation. Has 5 kids that i am close to but has more na we aren’t with
3rd eldest nothing much but has anger issues as well and that causes them to fight with each other most of the time. Has 2 kids
4th eldest well known from where i am living, has lots of issues and such that people from here know. I sometimes hear things that she did from other people that i get embarrassed about being associated with her. No kids
Their youngest has anger issues too but not that much. Chill siya sa amin ng mga cousins ko but of course toxic traits as well, i guess it runs in the family. No kids
Mga ugali nila causes them to fight with each other most of then time and we get caught in the crossfire. We listen to them badmouth each other and we can’t do anything about it. There’s one thing they get along with each other though, hating our lola. Not their birth mother. They even say bad things about her in front of us or even our relatives. Lola just doesn’t mind thm cos she doesn’t want to go down their level.
Basically this family is real fucked up and it’s really taking a toll on me. I wont list everything cos it will take a while if i do. Basta it really is fucked up. Whenever i hear something from them or they get mentioned I automatically feel sad and anxious. I live with my mom na now btw so i am not with them na everyday.
They even ask my mom why I don’t go to see them or even magparamdam man lang. I can’t even say the truth kasi i know they’ll get really pissed and might do something to me. This just happened kanina lang.
Also, it’s been 5 years since I graduated and still no job. I tried to study again during pandemic but online classes sucked so i stop and has since been looking for a job. I have a degree but its not something you can find a job right away with. It’s one of those uncommon degrees.
The thing is i just want to have a job so i can have an excuse like a legit one para i cant go whenever they want to gather or something. I just want to earn money too so i can get away from here so they won’t meddle with anything i want to do. I’ve followed what my lolo wanted all my life. Finished studying the right time. No vices. Studied again.
Now i just want to do what i want and don’t want then gorcing things on me anymore. They want me to work with them or study again and things like that.
It makes me sad that i can’t get the opportunity for me to start my own life after applying so many times. It feels like things are gonna go well for me, that i just have to suck it up and do what they want.
Thanks for letting me vent out.

2024.05.19 18:04 nhlwm Husband said he wasn't ready for a relationship

I (F23) and my husband (M28) have been married for 2 years, and have been in relationship for 4 years. Generally, he had a very traumatic childhood, with his parents keeping him isolated from outside world. He got out of the toxic household when he was 18, and had a girlfriend. She died a year later, had some medical issues. After that, he's only had ONS's before he met me. He's very regretive of his life in general, that he didn't really had youth - didn't have friends, didn't spend time as young people do, didn't attend university, etc. Recently, he shared with me that although he can make up for all other things (make friends, party, study, communicate with people, enjoy life...) He can never make up for relationships and experience with women he missed out, because that would mean letting me go and he doesn't want to do that. Yet, he regrets stepping in a serious relationship so early (not in terms of age, but in terms of maturity and life experience). This hurt me really bad. We had a long conversation, where his main points are: 1. He started a serious relationship with me too early, without real prior experience 2. He has communication issues with other women (women at work, etc) because he's afraid that moving a work relationship to a more friendly level will make him regret the decision of stepping into relationship more 3. He doesn't want to let me go, he loves me, he just feels sad and as if he's missed out a lot. I'm absolutely devastated, at the point where I'm reconsidering the whole relationship. When I mention divorce or giving each other space, he has a complete meltdown. He's undergoing a therapy, and it has brought him to understand a lot about his feelings that he previously couldn't. I'm noticing that our relationship has faded, and I'm slowly becoming a typical insecure, angry and toxic person. I just can't see the same spark in his eyes as I did 4 years ago. I'm certain that at that time, he wouldn't even consider such thing, he loved me so much, he'd never say that we started our relationship too early, or that he missed out something else. I think this is just a reflection of the fact that he has fallen out, and it makes me sick. To this day, I love him as I did the very first time I told him "I love you" and even more. I think if I won't step out now, the relationship will only go downwards. TLDR; husband said he missed out a lot by starting a serious relationship with me, yet can't leave because he loves me. I'm considering ending it before it's too late. Thoughts?

2024.05.19 13:38 SnooCauliflowers2872 I am so tired of her

I am so tired of my mother.I don't know why the fuck she keeps blaming me and hating me.She often tries to lose my control in public and then she beats me when i try to defend myself, cusses me out with the most atrocious words possible.Calls me a whore even though ive never dated someone, calls me a rattlesnake. She makes me look bad for everybody. She always lectures my brother on how evil I am and that I won't be a good sister for him. When she argues with dad,she takes out all her anger on me.So today when i woke up,she was having a real bad headache n then brought her medicine tried to help her.But she fucking started victimizing herself, telling me that i've wanted her dead and all the nonsense.I stayed quiet but she didnt stop she kept going n going. She yelled that God didnt exist cus she was in unbearable pain. She is weird sometimes.I don't fucking kno2 what i did to her to hate me like that.I swear I might be the nicest child a person can have.I dont do some sus things,I try to help her, study.Yall might be thinking those are just words. But it hurts when the closest person says that shit you.She even did worse things before.Kicked me in private parts, called me her husband's second wife(it made me feel disgusted why would she say it),gave me a black eye before my birthday, threw me in a snow, said that i will become a prostitute, brought a one man n said to rape me cus she argued w dad, always compared with other people's kids, stabbed me with a kitchen knife(thankfully),bodyshamed me,tried to judge my appearance. The list just can go on.I don't know why a human being would do such things to its own child? When she goes too far,i just try to defend myself and share my point of view, but she always victimizes herself.Im 17.I am an immigrant here in US came like 5 months ago.I think I might go insane if I dont move out asap.Sadly,I have no one to share all these things. So i'll leave it in here

Ledn is based in Canada and is seen by many as the most secure of all the crypto saving account due to their proof of funds audits they complete every 6 months.
Currently Ledn are offering new users a free $25 in USDC when they take out a loan of $500 USDC using their Bitcoin as collateral. USDC is a popular US dollar based stablecoin.
I have been using Ledn for over 6 months and have been impressed with the service and high interest paid on Bitcoin.
I have been using them more and more recently as BlockFi keep reducing their interest rates / limits.
I would recommend using Ledn for the high interest saving accounts. the loan service is just another bonus.
If you are interested they also have a Bitcoin 2x service which helps you increase your Bitcoin holding by using your existing Bitcoin as collateral.

2024.05.19 13:04 anonomusfem I’m not sure if I’m making the right choices in life.

I am a 32-year-old gay, chubby, feminine male. I've recently had family trouble: my father has gone missing on the Navajo reservation, which has taken a toll on my family. I was never close with my father due to being the oldest and seeing his alcoholic abuse cause domestic violence against my mother. My brother, the second child, who should have been named Junior but wasn't, worshiped our father and started taking up his career. Now that our father is missing, this sibling has taken up the alcoholic title. Though he may not be abusive, my mother and I think he might turn out to be soon. The baby of the family has had a love-hate relationship with our father. He also loves to blame everyone for his personal issues and bad choices. He has mother issues and is now copying our second brother by drinking every day. Both of them drinking has led to poor financial decisions, putting my mother and me in debt as we try to fix our finances and provide food and keep the house up to date. We rent the house we live in, so if we decide to move, the owner will likely charge us for the accumulated minor damages. I think I am the only one worried about this situation. Our mother is devastated by our father's disappearance. In my mind, they were soulmates and high school sweethearts. She was the cheerleader, and he was the sports jock. They loved each other, but my father's alcoholism was a huge problem, so she raised all three of us mostly on her own. There is evidence suggesting foul play in our father's disappearance, adding another layer of complexity to our family troubles. A bit about me: I struggled with coming out of the closet until I had my first boyfriend in 2011. My mother was very homophobic due to her religious upbringing but eventually learned to accept me. That first relationship only lasted a few months because his mother made a comment about my transportation to his home. At the time, I had no car, so I took the bus. When she asked how I got there, his response was "the bus," to which she said, "The bus? Isn't that for peasants?" This made me uncomfortable and led to our breakup. He was my first and only boyfriend, and I've never dated after him. At a young age, I was molested by a male cousin, which I believe influenced my sexuality and femininity. I have forgiven him and learned to move on with my life without blaming him. I've always wanted a job in Hollywood but have come to realize that's not going to happen. However, I landed the second best thing: working and traveling with Broadway shows. I took my first tour for ten months, back in 2022, came home, and took a season off. On this tour, I grew from my experiences and became an independent adult. I feel like I became the best version of myself. On tour, I had no one but myself, and I became independent. Now that I'm back home, I feel like I have to take care of everyone and make decisions for the long run. I'm not going to lie, I was sleeping with guys left and right and living life. When I came home, I reconnected with two guys: one a young African American guy and the other a Hispanic guy. The African American guy was younger than me, well-endowed, about my height, and very slender. We had known each other for the years I was on tour. He was living alone and had his own place. We were hooking up, and that's it. We connected less during my tour. I then reconnected with the Hispanic guy. He is about my age, shorter than me, and very masculine. He's a gentleman. When we first met, he came to my place. I thought that I had cleaned myself well, but when I pulled out my buttplug, I realized I hadn't. I excused myself and re-douched. He was very understanding and sweet about the whole situation, and I fell in love with his charm. When he left that night, I hoped I didn't scare him off, but he messaged me a few weeks later, this time inviting me to his place. He turned on his fireplace and laid blankets on the floor for us, being tender and romantic. After this encounter, I overthought the situation, building an idealized image of him, which made me sick with worry. He says he owns a company, which is why he doesn't reply quickly, but my social media feeds suggest otherwise. He never checks on me, but the African American guy did from time to time. A few weeks after visiting the Hispanic guy, I messaged the African American guy to see if he wanted to meet up. He told me he had become homeless and was looking for a bed at a homeless shelter. He asked if he could stay with me until he found a bed. Despite being undecided, I agreed. The worst part was that he showed me what a relationship with him could be like: affection, endless cuddles, and companionship. It was everything I wished for in a relationship, but I had to remind myself that I was only helping him temporarily. In this short time, he showed me love and what life could be like with a boyfriend. However, we eventually argued over something small, and he left, leaving me heartbroken. Songs from Ariana Grande's album became my anthems: "We Can't Be Friends," "I Wish I Hated You," and "Imperfect for You." I miss him, but he's too young to forgive me. I still see the Hispanic guy, but I fear I'm building him up to be something he's not. He still takes a while to reply to my messages, and I make excuses for his absence. I hope we'll become something, but I think that's unlikely, which also breaks my heart. A week ago, my siblings and mother and I had a huge argument, all of us under the influence. It started with me telling my mother that I wanted to move out. She, being overbearing, shut down and pushed me away from the idea, using my drunk siblings to turn against me. This brought out the worst in everyone, with all the built-up envy and jealousy coming out. Now, I'm indecisive about my future. Should I take a traveling job and leave my mother alone with my siblings, knowing they're not in the right state of mind? Is the person I'm seeing worth my emotional investment?

2024.05.19 12:29 whatever6728 Airtel Fiber Scam

I requested for Airtel Fiber connection and within a day received a call from one of their guys asking for my address so that he can come and check feasibility.
He comes and checks and informs me that it is not possible because my society has not granted permission or something but says that he can set up the connection from a neighboring building but it would take a few days. I was really frustrated with my internet connection at that time and asked him if he could do it sooner, he says not possible and it will take 4-5 days.
4 days later he calls me, says he is coming to my house to complete KYC and collect payment and the connection will start in few hours. I give him my ID and make the payment of Rs. 2679 + 1000 (refundable). My biggest mistake was I made the payment to a UPI ID that he shared with me. He says he will generate the order id and return with a guy who will do the installation.
Few hours later I receive messages from Airtel that Fiber installation process has started. I also shared OTP they sent to me with him. Another hour passes by, he calls me says that there is some issue and installation will complete in a day or 2. First signs of trouble. I ask him for invoice, instead he shares a screenshot that has my name and payment amount. It looked legit.
2 days later I get a message from Airtel that your Fiber installation has been cancelled (wtf?) and refund will be processed soon. I immediately message him about this, he says he will inquire. Hours pass, annoyed I message him again and he says don't worry if your installation does not get active you will get a refund. By this time my internet issues were resolved and I was not too intent on getting Airtel, also because after researching got to know Airtel's live TV channels were not as good.
2 days later, I message him about not getting refund, he says within 7 days you will get it. I question him that "I made the payment to you how will I get the refund?". He says "tension mat liljiye Sir aapka payment Airtel me hi jama hai".
5 days later, I question him and keep emphasizing the point that how will Airtel refund me when you have done the payment. MF sends me amount of Rs. 2679 within 10 mins! and says remaining Rs. 1000 will be refunded within 2-3 days. I knew something was fishy but gave him benefit of the doubt thinking he did not notice that Airtel refunded him.
3 days later, I tell him can we complain to Airtel. He says complain karke "koi matlab nahi hoga" (red flag). I ask him why but he does not reply. Keeps saying "tension mat lo, Rs. 2679 ka refund hua na Sir ji" (wtf?)
2 days later, it's a Sunday and my suspicions are high, I am annoyed and I have all the time to grill him. I keep asking him to share the invoice and not any screenshot, who has made the payment and how, why was the installation cancelled. He dodges them giving stupid examples, I swear some of his replies made my blood boil.
I told him that I will raise a complaint. He says go ahead and that he has done nothing wrong. I then ask him why didn't he pay the 2679 immediately instead of waiting for me to ask. He dodges it giving bullshit reply like "Cancel your current connection and see if they give you refund immediately". I say "as soon as I pressurized you for the refund, I get the 2679 within 10 mins how is that possible?"
Lo and behold! Rs. 1000 gets credited in my account and all his messages start getting deleted!!. His last message was "Sorry Sir aapko connection ke liye bola maine.". That slimy MF
I did not bother taunting him because he knows my address lol. In hindsight the UPI id I paid to had a completely different name. Though the screenshot he shared is legit. I did not think of taking screenshot but that idiot has not deleted the message where I ask him for refund and he refunds it within 10mins. noob lol. I really think I was his first victim.
I know I am the idiot for paying directly but I was convinced by the messages received from Airtel and his attitude. smh
I will probably delete this post, just needed to vent out and if it helps raise awareness so much better.

2024.05.19 09:33 Moonshademyth Everything is overwhelming.

I am self diagnosed-ish, trying to get a professional diagnosis. My PCP is all but certain I have ASD and she delivered me when I was born so she’s been my PCP for 22 years. She brought it up to my parents once when I was a kid but thanks to that great immigrant “no mental health issues” mentality they have, it was ignored and never brought up again.
Then I was excelling in school. In 8th grade I had these tics one day, my friend had just passed and I was still trucking on. I flung a pencil during one of them and hurt someone else. The school made my dad take me to the ER, he was told stress, anxiety and see someone about it. But nothing. Then I was excelling in my first full time job as a parapro for a STAR classroom. As a kid I volunteered in these classes a lot, my mom even taught one. Yeah, taught one. The adults were awful, but I was used to that. I started having meltdowns from overstimulation. At this point, I’d moved out and was living with my now husband, I was in a safe place for the first time in my life. I didn’t understand what my body was doing and why my brain was doing what it did. And then I was regressing. A lot and quickly. And now I’m realizing my entire life has been this huge lie. I come from a traumatic household, but have always been highly aware of it and have managed to process it myself. A year of talk therapy got me told “talk therapy doesn’t work for you, you have it all figured out.”
And I started a relationship pre-regression. I made friends pre-regression. Now I feel alone. My husband doesn’t understand really, he tries and all the time we’re growing together and he’s learning more and more about me and how to help me. But I have a lot of needs and I know I take up a lot of space in our lives because of it and so it feels like when I’m pushing through, knowing it’ll end in a complete meltdown, people are attentive, him included because I’m being helpful. But then I really need help, because I’ve been so focused on everyone else I need someone to focus on me. But there isn’t anyone to be attentive toward me. I feel like I’m treated like a burden when I really need the assistance.
I know I need to be the one to focus on me, but how do I do that? When people have surgeries and shitty husbands and need care, people have problems and ask for my help and I can help them. My brother is having a hard time at school. My husband works to support us because I can barely handle 14 hours a week. He met me when I worked three jobs, when I was surviving my childhood household. He fell in love with me because of my ambition and now I’m a dependent.
I’ve been battling myself to accept that I’m disabled. That before, that wasn’t me. That was a shell. I was a body. But now I have no clue who I am and it’s becoming terrifying. I feel like if I can’t just bounce back soon I’ll lose everything. Or someday I’ll become too much and just get abandoned.
I feel like my body and my brain are disconnected, I feel like I’ve got no hope. Like a diagnosis will never come, help will never be found. I just needed to speak at a community I knew would understand.
Thanks.

Lately, I've been getting outdoors more often and needed a durable, warm, and stylish jacket to keep me comfy while I'm exploring. Lucky for me, I stumbled upon the Realtree Camo Canvas Work Hunting Jacket for Men! This jacket is made with 12oz Cotton Canvas and features a cozy quilt lining, which has kept me toasty even on the chilliest of days.
One thing I absolutely love about this jacket is the front pouch pockets - they are so practical for keeping my hands warm and my essentials close at hand. Plus, the Real Tree Xtra camo pattern adds an cool, outdoorsy vibe to any outfit. And, of course, as a faithful Atlanta Falcons fan, I'm thrilled to see my team's logo embroidered on the jacket's exterior.
However, there's one minor issue I've noticed: the hood isn't particularly snug or form-fitting, which can be a bit of a hassle if you're wearing a hat while trying to stay warm. But overall, I would highly recommend this jacket for anyone who loves spending time outdoors, needs a reliable and stylish hunting companion, or simply supports their favorite NFL team!

🔗Durable and Stylish Sportman's Field Coat for Men

https://preview.redd.it/0lilmef1hb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd41bfd221434e445a348a69dd9eae46537e4e89
I recently got the chance to try out the Avery Heritage Sportman's Field Coat, and I must say, it's a stylish and functional piece of outerwear that I'm absolutely loving! The moment I put it on, I was surprised by how comfortable the coral fleece lining in the body and sleeves felt. It's like wearing a warm hug!
One thing I appreciated about the coat was the zippered and magnetic chest pockets. They're incredibly convenient for holding my essentials, like my phone and wallet. Plus, the two large front bellow pockets provide ample storage for bigger items.
Another feature worth mentioning is the antique brass hardware. Not only does it add a touch of sophistication to the coat, but it also ensures durability and long-lasting use. The adjustable cuffs are another added bonus, allowing me to customize the fit and feel of the coat for maximum comfort.
Overall, the Avery Heritage Sportman's Field Coat is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for both style and functionality in their outerwear. While the coat might be a bit of an investment, its high-quality materials and features make it well worth the price tag.

🔗Military Style Canvas Jacket for Men

https://preview.redd.it/n7n10zm1hb1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad6c3000096ab8ceeeef31809171b0561407f7d2
I remember the first time I wore my WenVen Men's Military Jacket, a crisp autumn day when the wind had a bit of a bite. As soon as I zipped up, I felt an instant warmth and comfort that can only be described as a hug from a good friend. The adjustable cuffs and high-quality zipper kept the chill at bay while still allowing easy movement.
One thing that sets this jacket apart is its unique stitching and stylish pocket placements. Not only do they provide a modern and fashionable look, but they also serve their purpose by keeping my small essentials within reach. Plus, the addition of a soft lining and interior pocket makes it feel cozy and secure.
However, it's worth noting that the WenVen Men's Military Jacket is not as heavy or insulated as some may prefer for colder temperatures. Additionally, I noticed that after a few washes, the canvas started to lose its stiffness, which might be a concern for those looking for a more durable option.
In conclusion, the WenVen Men's Military Jacket is an excellent choice for those who value style, comfort, and practicality. Its high-quality materials and features make it a reliable and versatile addition to any wardrobe. Just remember to keep in mind that it might not be the best option for extreme weather conditions.

One thing I absolutely love about this jacket is how versatile it is. Whether I'm out in the field hunting or just running errands, this jacket keeps me protected and stylish. Another feature that stood out for me is the front yoke that extends to double chest pocket flaps - it's such a practical design, offering plenty of storage space.
However, like any product, there are some minor drawbacks. The sizing runs slightly small, so if you're looking for a looser fit, consider sizing up. Additionally, I wish there were clearer care instructions included with the jacket.
In conclusion, the "Legendary Whitetails Lonestar Shirt Jacket" is a high-quality, stylish piece that's perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. While it might not be perfect for everyone, it certainly has made a positive impact on my wardrobe.

I recently purchased the Hoggs of Fife Stewarton Canvas Coat in Camel, and I must say, it has quickly become a wardrobe staple for me. The coat is made of a robust, waterproof 100% cotton canvas that is soft to the touch yet offers excellent protection from the elements. Wearing this coat, I feel as if I am walking through the wilderness with a classic, outdoorsy charm.
One of my favorite features is the faux suede collar and brass zip that adds a touch of timeless elegance to the overall design. The jacket also boasts multiple pockets, including two large magnetic closure pockets, a zipped pocket, and an internal zipped pocket, making it easy for me to carry my essentials without worrying about losing them.
The other day, when I went for a long walk on a chilly evening, the coat kept me warm and cozy while providing just the right amount of insulation. However, one drawback I have noticed is that the collar could be stiffer for added support and protection. Nevertheless, the Stewarton Canvas Coat truly delivers on its promise of being a high-quality, comfortable coat for the outdoorsy individual.

I recently tried the Gamehide Fenceline Upland Jacket and it has quickly become my go-to hunting gear. The HyperHide fabric with fleece lining manages to provide exceptional stretch and comfort while remaining water and wind resistant. The handwarmer pockets and vertical chest pocket are really useful for keeping my essentials close at hand during long hunts.
However, one thing that I would have appreciated is a smaller, zipped pocket where I could store my phone and keys securely. Another minor issue is that the game bag can get a bit cumbersome when it's full, but overall, this jacket has been a game-changer for my hunting adventures. It's stylish, comfortable, and truly stands out among other hunting jackets I've tried.

The thick stretch canvas offered the perfect balance of protection and flexibility, making it suitable for various activities like hunting or lounging around the campfire.
One feature that really stood out for me was the fit. It was just right - not too tight, nor too loose. The length, which hits at the hip, contributes to the overall aesthetic of the jacket. Plus, pairing it with Duck Camp's Brand Pants creates a cohesive and stylish look that I absolutely adore.
However, there's always room for improvement. Some users have reported issues with the fabric quality. It may not hold up as well against heavy use or waxing as some traditional brush jackets do. Nonetheless, the price point is quite affordable, and you get what you pay for.
In summary, the Duck Camp Lightweight Brush Jacket is an excellent addition to any outdoorsman's closet. Its comfortable fit, versatile usage, and stylish design make it perfect for both hunting trips and casual outings. I recently purchased the Wyoming Traders Men's Canvas Western Ranch Jacket in chocolate color, and I have to say, this coat is one of the warmest and sturdiest I've ever had. The adjustable snap wrist cuffs make it incredibly easy to customize the fit to my preference. The shoulder Western yoke design on the front and back is a great addition, making this coat both functional and stylish.
However, there are a few minor drawbacks. Some users have reported that the buttons can be prone to falling off. While I haven't experienced this issue myself, it's worth keeping in mind if you plan on using this coat in rugged conditions. Additionally, the zipper quality could be improved, as it can be challenging to get started initially.
Overall, the Wyoming Traders Men's Canvas Western Ranch Jacket is a fantastic choice for those in search of a warm, sturdy, and stylish coat. The heavy-duty 9.4-oz. cotton canvas/spandex shell instantly caught my eye, as it exuded durability and quality. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and quiet it was; making stealth in the wilderness extremely easy.
One of the standout features was its roomy fit. The 100% polyester mesh body lining kept me feeling light and comfortable, while the interior patch pockets with hook-and-loop closure proved incredibly useful for storing my essentials. I also appreciated the adjustable sleeve cuffs, which allowed me to customize the fit to my preference.
However, there were a few cons that caught my attention throughout my usage. One of the first things that stood out to me was the flannel liner on the interior. It keeps me cozy and warm, perfect for those chilly mornings when I'm jogging out to get my morning coffee. The pocket placement is also spot on, providing ample storage options without compromising style.
However, one con might be the lack of a hood. Living in a city with unpredictable weather, I sometimes miss having the option to quickly throw up a hood when it starts pouring rain. Despite this, I still find myself reaching for my Tony Canvas Field Jacket more often than not.
In conclusion, the Volcom TonyCanvas Field Jacket in Rust offers a perfect blend of style and functionality. Its unique design combined with practical features make it a must-have addition to any wardrobe.

The View from Oregon – 289
Re: Scientia sub specie illuminatatis
Friday 17 May 2024
Dear Friends,
In the past several newsletters I have discussed the lack of a science of science, and some of the ramifications of this absence. Another consequence of the absence of a science of science is the selective way in which science develops, and this in turn leads to Danilevsky’s philosophy of science, which acknowledges that science can be different in different social milieux. In other words, science is relative to the scientific community that practices science. Kuhn comes to an analogous conclusion, though for Kuhn it is the diachronic relativity of science that emerges from a history of scientific revolutions triggered by model crises and paradigm shifts. Kuhn’s work continues to be debated, are there are significant differences of interpretation that keep alive the controversy as to whether paradigm shifts are rational or irrational. (Why not both by turns?)
Danilevsky presents us with the prospect of the synchronic relativity of science, in which paradigms differ not down through historical time, but across ethnic communities. This strikes at the heart of Enlightenment universalism, but, as I have tried to argue in these newsletters, Enlightenment ideology is not intrinsically scientific, but for a time Enlightenment thinkers made common cause with the sciences as a way both to advance their interests and to fight the common enemy of traditionalism. But scientists themselves have so completely internalized Enlightenment ideology that, even if the Enlightenment can abandon science, scientists cannot abandon the Enlightenment. That science is the same, that it must be the same, for all who practice it, seems to be an unspoken presupposition of science practised sub specie illuminatatis.
I don’t know of any analytical philosophers who have taken up Danilevsky’s argument, even if only to refute it. Nor do I know of any analogous arguments, though my knowledge of contemporary philosophy of science is far from exhaustive. The closest we come to Danilevsky in the mainstream of Anglo-American analytical philosophy of science is the debate over Kuhn’s philosophy of science, which evades some of the most troubling aspects of Danilevsky’s account. But in the absence of a science of science, we cannot definitively exclude Danilevsky’s account, just as we cannot exclude the role of personalities in the development of science (the focus of last week’s newsletter), nor can we exclude the possibility of alternative sciences that explain as much of the world as our familiar sciences, but which are largely disjoint from the familiar sciences. This latter possibility is related as an anecdote in Eugene Wigner’s “The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences,” which I have quoted many times (though, strangely, apparently not in these newsletters, as I searched back several years just now and didn’t find this quoted, though I could have sworn that I have referenced this so many times my readers may be tired to hearing of it).
Another problem potentially soluble by a science of science: every special science undergoes its own crisis in its turn as it is forced to recognize that it cannot define either the object of its research or the fundamental theoretical terms it employs. There was the crisis in the foundations of mathematics, the crisis in physics, the crisis in psychology, the replication crisis (which falls hardest on social psychology, but which leaves few disciplines unscathed), the crisis in cosmology, and no doubt further crises yet to come. Some of these crises resemble each other, suggesting analogous structural problems within the sciences, while other crises seem to be highly specific to a particular subject matter (as with the crisis in cosmology generated by diverging measures of the Hubble constant). Further research into crises may reveal a deeper commonality, or may reveal each crisis to uniquely supervene on the objects of knowledge distinctive to each science.
The above assumes that a science of science would foreclose upon these troubling scenarios we would prefer not to contemplate. I think we can safely say that we have excluded some unwelcome scenarios for science, and this implies some rudimentary foundations of a science of science, and I think that if the project of a science of science ever came about, i.e., if it ever became a scientific research program on its own—or perhaps a meta-scientific research program—it would gradually foreclose upon the paradoxes of science, excluding them one by one, first taking care of the relatively simple problems, and then moving on to the more difficult ones. We don’t yet even know what the hardest problems are, or what they will be, when we earnestly turn toward formulating a science of science. It is all terra incognita to us.
In the absence of a science of science, however, we do have something to go on, and that is the record of the most successful special sciences, which, through their utility and fruitfulness, have provided a model for the other sciences to follow. And follow they do. A successful scientific discipline spurs imitation in the other special sciences, with the methods and the research program and theoretical structures copied. Science, then, has recourse to analogy. Later sciences are constructed along the lines of earlier successful sciences, and with good reason. The successful sciences have resolved many or most of their problems, and their methods have proved to be a successful way to derive knowledge from the empirical world.
But analogy itself is a theoretical problem. It has no standing as a formal principle of reasoning, and empirically it forces us into the kind of metaphysical speculation that most scientists hate—reflections on the uniformity of nature and such like. If nature is uniform, then a scientific methodology for the investigation of nature can be uniform, and we can know that it is (or will be) as effective in one region of experience as in another region of experience. Proof of this, however, is a metaphysical proof, and not anything scientific in the usual sense.
I should not belabor this idea of the absence of a science of science without acknowledging that it was, of course, the traditional idea that philosophy was the science of science, or, more narrowly, philosophical logic as it was elaborated prior to the mathematization of logic, that was understood to be the science of science, or, as it was also commonly known, the theory of science. Many logical works were called the theory of science, as, for example, Bernard Bolzano’s four volume Theory of ScienceWissenschaftslehre—which was completed in 1837, but the first complete English translation of which did not appear until 2014. In the meantime, between 1837 and 2014, logic, philosophy, and science all underwent rapid growth, and even, we could say, directional growth, that took them in a developmental direction of elaboration that was not anticipated prior to this time.
We can imagine a counterfactual history of logic (and of science) in which logic developed linearly, and did not experience a sudden growth along with a sudden realignment, gradually converging upon the ideal of a theory of science imagined by logicians like Bolzano. While mathematical logic transformed both logic and mathematics both, what was lost in the elaboration of mathematical logic was its connection to this traditional function of logic as the science of science. Moreover, the internal integration of logic was lost, though, it must be observed, other forms of integration appeared as logic was reconstructed analogously to mathematics.
Lately I have been thinking how, with the advent of mathematical logic and analytical philosophy, theory of meaning and theory of reference bifurcated, and with this bifurcation the inverse relationship between the two, explicitly recognized in traditional logic, was lost. Traditional logic asserts that as intension expands, extension narrows, and as extension expands, intension narrows. Intuitively it is easy to see that this is the case: a highly definite meaning applies only to a very few referents, while a generic meaning applies to a great many more referents. But with the development of mathematical logic and analytical philosophy, the theory of meaning and the theory of reference developed in different directions.
What happened? The whole of Western civilization was redirected and realigned by the industrial revolution. Some years ago I wrote about how the industrial revolution essentially hijacked other developments that were already taking place, and which therefore did not have the opportunity to come to a natural fruition because industrial change was so rapid and so catastrophic. I called this the preemption hypothesis (and gave it a further application in Late-Adopter Spacefaring Civilization: The Preemption that Didn’t Happen). We can understand preemption as a more generic historical process in which one historical process that is aggressively expansive overtakes another historical process that is slower and more gradual. An invasive weedy species of cognition expands universally and crowds out endemic species of cognition, driving them to extinction, and leaving us with a philosophical monoculture and its attendant disadvantages.
The kind of industrial civilization we might have gotten had the industrial revolution been an industrial evolution instead of a revolution, unfolding over millennia, as it is likely that the development of agriculture developed, would have been dramatically different. And the industrial revolution spawned revolutions in every adjacent sphere of life and thought. The preemption that was the industrial revolution can also be seen at work in intellectual history, and even in aesthetic and spiritual history. Science and philosophy began to transform early, more or less defining by themselves the advent of modernity when science and philosophy were modern but economics and industry were not. However, with the industrial revolution, science and philosophy were given a new and more violent spur to further growth and realignment.
These redirections and realignments of science, philosophy, and logic are vivid illustrations of the kind of selective development of science that Danilevsky imagined, though he thought of these selective developments in terms of their being embedded in cultural-historical traditions. Western science was embedded in the Western cultural-historical tradition (though Danilevsky called this the Romano-Germanic cultural-historical type), and when this tradition changed due to the industrial revolution, the science (and philosophy and logic) changed along with the tradition. Had the change been given an impetus in a different direction, or had the change not happened at all, science and its adjacent intellectual activities would look rather different today. I will not deny that change would have been much slower, but qualitatively different change might have had unprecedented impacts on history. Obviously, in the present context, what I am thinking of is a tradition like the logic of Bolzano being developed gradually, perhaps over hundreds of years, until it becomes the genuine science of science the want of which we feel at present.
It is ironically reflexive that we cannot exclude the possibility of a counterfactual science, based on a counterfactual logical tradition that grew into a mature theory of science, precisely because we lack this same theory of science. We also cannot prove that our rapid progress in science since the industrial revolution might stagnate for want of a proper theory of science, and due to the cognitive monoculture favored by rapid progress, nor that a counterfactual science, based on a counterfactual logic, might ultimately overtake and outstrip the rapid progress of science after an industrial revolution. It may be the case that, when a civilization experiences a rapid and violent industrial revolution, the accelerated rate of change cripples the other institutions of that civilization, and inevitably leads to both industrial and scientific progress eventually grinding to a halt, because the rate of progress was unsustainable. We could call the two implied scenarios of scientific and industrial development the tortoise scenario and the hare scenario, where slow and steady wins the race.
Best wishes,
Nick
PS—Last Wednesday I hiked up Dog Mountain again (previously in a PS to newsletter 239 I mentioned hiking Dog Mountain on 31 May 2023, almost exactly a year ago). This time I didn’t go all the way to the top, but I went as far as the Dog Mountain Lookout, which is a viewpoint over the Columbia Gorge just short of the top. Spring is one of the best times to do the Dog Mountain walk because of all the wildflowers.
PPS— The new number of Isonomia Quarterly, Volume 2 Issue 2, is now available, which includes a new essay by me, “The Coming Coeval Age” (a PDF version is also available). I plan to also record a video about this for my Today in Philosophy of History series. As with my recent big history paper, “A Complexity Ladder for Big History,” this essay for the Isonomia Quarterly isn’t specifically about philosophy of history, but it does have some interesting implications for history that I will explore and elaborate.
PPPS—I have finished listening to the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. This is a classic I have skimmed many times but have not previously read through word-for-word. It always feels good to have the experience of the whole of a classic to better understand the references generated by said classic. Often we think of stoics as being distant and even possessed of an inhuman degree of self-control, but I was surprised by the repeated references to sociability in the Meditations. There is a pervasive sense in Marcus Aurelius of going along to get along.
Immediately upon finishing the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius I started listening to How to Think Like a Roman Emperor: The Stoic Philosophy of Marcus Aurelius by Donald J. Robertson. This is not exactly a commentary on the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, but a kind of exposition, both filling in the backstory to the life of Marcus Aurelius, as well as the life of the author, and showing the relevance of Stoic philosophy in the present. This book is about twice as long as the Meditations themselves.

2024.05.19 02:53 Standard-Lock6414 Broken ankle recovery

I’m a 17 y/o who broke her ankle (tibia and fibula) this year on March 25th and ended up getting surgery a week after on 4/3. I saw the orthopedic 2 weeks after for post op and he said another 6 weeks NWB (so a total of 8 weeks NWB since I was in a cast for the 2 weeks right after my surgery). I feel like this is a long time and as a teen, my instinct has simply been to start walking again. I begun weight bearing 3 weeks after my surgery by “standing”, which was more of simply putting my foot down but putting little to no weight on it, it would just be flat on the ground as if I was actually standing. By weeks 4-5 I was tapping my foot on the ground while crutching or even taking small steps with about 25% of my weight. Now, 6 weeks NWB, I take small steps throughout the day and have had small incidents where I’ve been forced to full weight bear to catch my balance and avoid falling/slipping. My ROM is really good as far as my physical therapist says and I haven’t had any pain at all since my surgery. I feel like I can start walking right now if I wanted to, but the doctor and PT words stop me from doing so in order to avoid further troubles and a 2nd surgery, and as a teen I know I’m able to hear much faster. I see my doctor in about 2 weeks where hopefully I’ll be able to start FWB right away, since he dragged it with the 8-week healing time. To be honest I don’t think my injury was that serious, especially after reading so much stories with people who had much worse fractures but started WB earlier and were also older than me.
My question is: Do you think I’ll be able to FWB immediately the day I see my doctor for a recovery check up? I don’t mean gradually going down to one crutch or start FWB with a boot, I mean literally going back to walking normally as if nothing ever happened.
I feel like it is possible and I feel confident enough to do it. I will attach some pictures of what my injury looks like to show you guys, hopefully a doctor sees them and gives me a 2nd opinion lol.
