It seems the common consensus is that damage wise unarmed martial builds will always trail behind martial builds that use weapons, and class feature wise and feat wise this seems true, but something has recently grabbed my attention
Wotc have seemingly tried to buff unarmed builds a few times, and they're not very coordinated about it. So they've released 3 magic items: insignia of the claw, eldritch claw tatoo, and wraps of unarmed prowess
Now +1-3 weapons do not stack in dnd 5e. Neither do +1-3 shields. However, in this case, you're gaining a boost to attack and damage rolls through trinkets, not weapons.
Trinkets that increase ac stack on top of plus whatever shields, and as far as I know there's no other trinkets that boost attack and damage rolls
So RAW, unarmed builds are the only builds that can get what is functionally a + 5 weapon. Which is completely broken in 5e because of both bounded accuracy, but also a guaranteed +5 damage is pretty strong in general
Take Monk for example, usually Monk is supposed to make up for lack of damage per hit by number of hits. And even then, the damage won't be that big. But with plus 5 to unarmed attacks, not only do they probably hit all of their attacks, but that's a guaranteed 5 extra damage in addition to their dex modifier
Even unarmed fighter also becomes much stronger this way. The problem with unarmed fighting style was always the lack of magical damage, but the items make the damage magical. So as far as I can tell, the damage of unarmed fighter becomes competitive with the highest dpr fighters no? (Despite the fact that so many features that boost damage specify weapon attacks)
Am I missing something here? How is this not completely broken
Also for any monk players out there, if you can, get a belt of giant strength if it puts your strength past 20. Just because you can use dex for attacks doesn't mean you should lmao. A belt of storm giant strength gives you a + 9 for attack and damage rolls instead of the max +5 if you're using dex

I am asking this for my lil sis because my mom seems to think it's totally normal and wants to sweep it under the rug.
Quick backstory: I had very bad mental health problems as a kid, struggled a lot with feeling different and not doing well in a school environment, even went inpatient once. Multiple psychiatrists talked to my mom and afterwards diagnosed me with depression. When I was 18, my mom finally opened up to me and said that more than 5!! of my teachers talked to her about a suspected ADHD diagnosis, which she apparently purposefully did not mention to psychiatrists as I 'cannot have ADHD because [my] grades are too good'. Went to see a new psychiatrist, did testing, got an ADHD diagnosis. Now I'm doing way better in life, no more suicide attempts, even on my way to graduating university. So this history might bias me, of course. My mom says I am projecting my feelings onto my sister, which is very much possible.
So, onto the complaint:
My sister used to struggle a lot with frequent bedwetting, up until she was 12 years old. I had the same thing when I was a kid due to anxiety, so they thought it was the same for her. She also gets stomachaches sometimes because shes so scared of school and does not want to go. Her grades are very bad, and she struggles a lot with doing her homework and paying attention. She also does not have any friends.
During Covid, I used to help her with online school and realized that she would sometimes completely forget about classes happening, would daydream during the entire class, and when doing her homework would sometimes forget what she was writing in the middle of the sentence and finish it with a completely different sentence. Her homework often came back as 'unintelligible', 'unreadable', 'lots of careless mistakes'.
When I started being more strict with her, aka tracking all her homework, waking her up in the morning, taking away her phone during class and reminding her to pay attention every 30 minutes, she got drastically better grades in the span of two months. Sadly, due to Covid ending I had to return to my college city and her grades started slipping again.
All these things to me point to an ADHD diagnosis or at least something going on, especially due to my diagnosis. But the most worrying thing to me was:
Up until she was around 11 or 12 years old, she would sometimes be so focused on playing video games that she would pee her pants a little because she didnt realise she needed to go. If you would tell her to go pee, she would get upset/annoyed and tell you 'just 5 more minutes' over and over again, until it was too late. She's also really bad with hygiene, when she's visiting I have to remind her to brush her teeth daily, to shower and to wash her hair, otherwise she just won't do it. She's honestly sometimes really stinky and her hair is always a mess.
My mom said that's a normal things kids do, but I annoyed her so much about it that she took my sister to one therapist who talked to my sister 3 times and then said she does not have adhd and that shes healthy.
So now my mom is really angry with me every time I say that I am concerned, because this one therapist said shes a normal kid so if I'm doubting that it means I think I know better than the professionals.
I honestly have no fucking clue, maybe this is a normal developmental stage? My mom says all of us were stinky and icky as teenagers and she will grow out of it, but I think its hurting my sister, because she does not have friends and I think every kid needs friends right?
So I am just asking here because I honestly don't know if I'm actually just projecting and should listen to the professionals and if I dont that makes me a bad brother somehow. What I mean is this: I tried to do it like in Notion, so that if I left a link to y in file x, then there would automatically remain a link in y to x, but to do this, you first need to go to the table that contains x, then to the one that contains x. what does it contain (if it is not the same one), and be sure that everything is updated (and with many files this does not happen).
I am attaching a photo of what my files look like now. In square brackets there are links to other files, without correspondingly just text. My idea is that all the features can be described in some blocks, which gives me brevity and clarity for understanding what I wrote.
What I would like to understand how to do:

1. is it possible to create templates for files (by type for character, place, story, etc.), now I have created a separate folder from which I simply copy the text for the desired file
2. Is it possible that when such templates are changed, the files associated with them also change?
3. How to work with dates? Dataview, like Nouse, refuses to work with dates earlier than 0000.00.00, and in general they are not intended to show events that are not today. Naturally, my calendar is not the same, the years are different. And is it possible to somehow get a timestamp directly in obsidian?
4. Is it possible to replace a certain phrase/word in all files at once (even GlobalSearch does not allow this), but it would be useful for me when changing a character’s name, for example.
5. Actually, is it possible to mutually link files at once? I described the problem above.

I’ve been dealing with anxiety off and on for around 5 years it started with randomly at work leaving and the feeling of thinking I’m having a heart attack after 10-15 ER visits over the years it’s been between anxiety, costochondritis, viral infections, bladder infections kidney infections. They could never pin point it went to see a cardiologist about 5 years ago stress test ran heart scans all the above checked out normal. I’m having trouble figuring out what’s wrong with me. As of late I’ve been slightly heavier weight than I usually am this year and had a problem with alcohol consumption I’m 29 years old 6’5 275 pounds recently I’ve been dealing with high blood pressure. I’ve started noticing it when it was about 150/90 ish. Now I’m around 120-130/80-90. My doctor recently prescribed me propranolol (I also have anxiety). The propranolol has worked like a charm BP has been 120 or below over 80 or below which is pretty good considering where I’ve been. But with this my heart rate has been low when I test my BP my heart rate is 48-57 range I don’t regularly exercise I play slow pitch softball 3-4 times a week which isn’t the best exercise but it gets the legs moving and heart pumping I guess I was looking for some advise. Also wanted to note my doctor and I think I may have Gerd and have also started taking pantoprazole. Once everyone was aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, Mira seemed to relax a little. Davis and Thompson were chatting away with Vebi and Fennis. Povin still stayed near Mira when the officers were chatting with each other. She felt a little lost now that her services as translator was no longer needed. The winds were much stronger here, and one of Povin’s wings got caught in the wind, causing him to lift up. He reflexively opened his other wing.
“Povin! Remember! Glide! Do not flap!” Mira yelled at him.
“What was that Chief?” Thompson asked.
“I’m sorry sir. Ensign Povin’s wing got caught on a draft. They come from a lower gravity world so if he tries to fly, our gravity will break most of his wing bones and tear through his wing skin. The atmospheric belts they wear can maintain their own atmospheric conditions, but it can’t keep up if they full on fly.”
After riding the currents and getting used to how it felt under his wings, Povin was eventually able to land. He quickly wrapped his wings about himself tightly to avoid doing that again. The rest of the remaining Drala quickly tightened their own wings about their bodies.
“I see. Let’s get everyone inside.” Admiral Davis replied. “Chief Rodreguez, your Captain Martinelli sent over your uniforms.” He called over a sailor who had a duffle bag which was handed over to Mira.
Mira looked a little closer at one of the Destroyer escorts. “Sir, is that the USS Bainbridge I see?”
“Yes, it is. You think your Captain would allow us to come get you and not be a part of the escort? Once we stopped receiving responses, he has called in almost daily to NASA to get answers. Honestly, I was willing to bet that if we denied his ‘request’ to join the escort, he would have gone rogue to be here.”

“Chief. It’s good to hear your voice again. Do you have any idea how many calls I received from my nephew? I don’t know how he was able to get people to patch him through so frequently while on duty himself, but he’s very resourceful. I have to admit that. Did those aliens treat you well? And who took down communications like that?”
“Yes, sir. I was treated extremely well. I haven’t had a chance to be debriefed yet, so I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say over comms.”
“I understand. You should be able to say at least if the comms were interrupted by the aliens.”

“I believe his is calmer now, Sir. However, I suspect he will grill me himself once I am returned to his ship.”
“That sounds about right, Chief. I wouldn’t expect any less of him.”
“Grill? Are you in danger, Chief Mira?” Vebi asked worriedly.
“Grill is slang for question soundly, Rear Admiral. I promise that I will be completely safe with my Captain.” Mira looked around and noticed Commander Morris wasn’t in the room. “Excuse me, Sirs. What happened to Commander Morris? I thought he had survived the assault?”
“I’m sure he’s somewhere on board the ship. When we left to this room, he had been distracted. You know how these ships can be hard to navigate for non-Navy enlistees.” Davis replied.
General Thompson added, “If I had not spent my earlier enlisted time on board Navy vessels, I likely would have also been confused. I always did enjoy the Marine Taxi Service.” He joked. The Admiral gave him a poke with his elbow good naturedly. It was a sign that they had been friends as well as coworkers for a long time.
Admiral Davis explained to the aliens, “The General and I belong to different branches of service. Each branch has a love-hate relationship with all of the other branches. We all have our strengths, and our weaknesses are proudly backed up by the strengths of the other branches. It’s like having siblings. I can tease and make fun of my siblings, but if anyone else does, I will fight them to submission and make them apologize to my sibling.”
“Ah, I understand,” Vebi replied. “I feel the same way about my spawn-mates.”
Fennis cut in, “I understand the diplomate you had intended for us was lost in the conflict. We would prefer if Chief Mira were to be this for us. She has lived with us, and we have forged mutual respect for each other.”
“I believe that can be arranged.” Davis replied after a few moments of thought. “Bureaucracy takes time, and the rest of the Chief’s enlistment will have to be accounted for, but I believe this can be arranged.” He chuckled. “Captain Martinelli will be both happy for you and pissed we’re taking away his highest-ranking Machinist Mate aboard the Bainbridge.”
They began talking and getting to know each other and finally, Vebi asked, “I understand you will need to speak with others to make a real decision, but do you think your people will join the Federation?”
General Thompson beat Admiral Davis to it as he said, “They touched our boats. No one touches the US Navy’s boats and gets away with it.” Davis gave Thompson a small elbow to the ribs showing that the two men were friends outside of their official responsibilities.
Eventually, Commander Morris found the Ready room and General Thompson gestured for him to take a seat. “Now that we’re all here, Chief, how about you give us a full debriefing. Start from leaving Earth.”
“Yes, Sir. The mission started off great. Roger was able to correct course as needed, but the autopilot we were using was very accurate. We were all asleep when it happened. I’m a light sleeper and the pings against the hull woke me up. Looking back, there must have been a harder hit that woke me up first, but at the time, all I heard was the lighter pings. I got up to take a look around and then the alarms went off that we all knew meant to get into our space suits. Once I was in my suit, I realized no one else was in the room with me.
“I grabbed a suit with the intent to help someone into it and then we could go back and help others. They were all dead. The atmosphere in the ship was completely gone and we were no longer noticeably moving. I was staring at either a short and rough death once my air ran out, or if I could fix the life support, I could be looking at a long agonizing death from hunger. I never turned away from a challenge, so I was determined to fix the ship.
I fixed the life support and power at the same time. Now I was only going to face a long agonizing death. It was then that I jettisoned the dead. Hindsight being 20/20, I realize it was the wrong choice. I know that Commander Morris felt I should be able to make a refrigeration room, but if you look at the ship and the schematics, but assuming that I knew I was going to survive and make it back home, that ship did not have rooms that were airtight. They are close, but do not seal all the way. Secondly, I didn’t have the materials to make it so that the air didn’t circulate out of any room I put them in.
“At that time, I fully expected that I was going to die out there. It would take time for any message to get to Earth, time to fabricate a new ship and crew it, and time to get out to me. Time that I didn’t feel I had.”
Davis interrupted. “The seals weren’t airtight?”
“The exterior ones were, but any of the interior doors were not. They used a different kind of seal material, and in some cases, we could see light through a closed door. Even the door that was supposed to be the airlock for if we had to open the exterior door for anything. That one was the best seal, but there were still leaks.”
“Continue.” Davis said.
“I was out fixing the thruster when the crew of Black Hole found me. You haven’t met them, and I don’t think they can even come down here. The federation uses color outlines on their emblem to denote classes of ability to survive on worlds, I guess would be the best way to put it. Black Hole is a Green Class. They have the fewest worlds they can touch down on and survive. It’s based on allergy. If they were to even touch the plants here, they would get hives. The Meteor's crew is a Black Class. They can go to nearly every inhabited world. They might have to be careful of gravity, or if the air quality or temperatures are too extreme for the atmospheric belts to handle. Our world is classified as a Black Class planet.” She then relayed the rest of her journey.
“Do you think we can speak with these other heads of ships?” Thompson asked the aliens.
“Of course.” Fennis replied. To Vebi he said, “If you hail Commander Xuan’rawis, I’ll hail Captain S’sveta.”
After getting their targets on a video call, they both headed over and got their counterparts in view too. “We still have two hours until our nocturnal counterparts awaken. We’ll have about an hour of overlap, and then we will need to rest ourselves.” S’sveta said.
The leaders all spoke with each other, leaving Morris very confused as he did not receive a translator implant. Thompson told Mira she could act as his translator, so she did.

I am looking for a Desktop Environment than can be customized in the way convenient to my workflow.
I am a long time Windows user, loved Windows 7 UI the most out of all of them while greatly disliking Windows 11 UI changes (to which I jumped straight from Win 7). Now I am slowly moving towards making Linux my daily driver, having installed Debian a while ago in dual boot with Win 11.
These are the features I would like to see in a DE (either vanilla or if it can be customized this way):
1. Windows 7-style task/dockbar - a panel that can be placed to the right side of the screen, containing a menu button, pinned as well as currently running app icons/tiles. If pinned app is launched, its tile simply changes its appearence, no duplicate tile is added to the empty space on the taskbar.
In Windows 7 I used the start menu mostly because those apps I used often recently and the newly installed apps showed up there automatically at the top. It would be even better if the taskbar itself can have the same functionality, automatically adding most oftenly used apps towards the end of the line.
2. An app's progress bar is mirrored on its taskbar tile which would slowly fill up with green, just as in Windows 7 and 10. I hate Windows 11 making this mini-progress bar separate and microscopic.
3. Two-level jump lists, as in Windows 7. Right click on a taskbar icon should bring up a list with pinned and, below the delimiter, recently opened files. The amount of both should be confirugable and not very small.
4. Live previews of all app windows when mouse hovering upon the taskbar tile of a running app. When hovering upon a preview all other windows became transparent (as in Windows 7).
5. If 1 can be fully implemented, then the launcher menu ("Start") can contain a simple alphabetical list of all applications and a searchbar. Otherwise, it should have the same functionality as Windows 7 start menu.
6. There should be minimal space between the taskbar itself and elements sprung by interaction with it - the menu, jump lists and live previews. Not like in Windows 11, where there is such a large space that I often accidentally activate desktop itself (I prefer activate on hover).
7. Window snapping like in Windows 10/11, automated creation of windows' groups would also be nice. Especially if these groups are shown as a single unit in desktop overview and/or on taskbar.
8. Multiple desktops support, each with its own sets of icons on the desktop (i.e. not just different workspaces) would be very nice.
9. I like Frutiger Aero looks the most, would be nice to have this theme instead of "modern" flat design. But it's not as important as other requirements.
I feel like I have the best chance with either KDE or Cinnamon. But I might not know how to configure either of them to get everything I want. For example, jump lists seem to be available in KDE Plasma, but do not work for all applications, and the division between pinned and recent files seems to be absent.
I will be very grateful for advice!

I suspect my sister is narcissistic with enabling parents. I was considering going no-contact with my family minus a brother I’m close to 3 years ago and was almost out until my father died in a freak accident and I got roped back in. My sister has spent the last 30 years making my life a living hell and my parents never stuck up for me or protected me from her. My mother, now alone, is terrified of her. We had a shitty childhood and all have different survival tactics, but after going to therapy for four years now, I’ve gotten away from those and surround myself with happy, healthy, amazing, supportive people. In regard to family, I keep my distance when I can (living 3.5 hours away helps), but often am the one everyone turns to when shit goes sideways to fix everything, calm people down, figure out what to do next. I’m tired of it, especially now realizing no one does the same for me.
I recently got married and had a 40 person head count, with 38 yeses. After a bunch of random crap, 13 of my 20 invitees flaked 3 days to 2 hours before the party, all of which were very, very close family members including a brother and two of my BILs. Had I known this, I would have invited more friends who WOULD have shown, but wasn’t given enough time. I vented to my mother who said at least I have my sister coming, who I said was only invited since the others were and she has never been nice to me or my husband - which my mother agreed with and said was a self-centered survival thing. I said she should learn a little kindness which would get her far. Come party, 2 hours in and she’s nowhere to be seen. My brother gets in touch with her and relays the message that I’m a monster, I’m childish and horrible and never welcome her to anything and I’m irrelevant and no one likes me which is why everyone bailed on me and I should be embarrassed. The only person I said those things to was my mother (who couldn’t come to party due to health reasons). I spent a majority of my wedding party crying on a fire escape because I was so upset by her words, so upset that everyone bailed, and so upset I didn’t follow my gut inviting other friends who would have come over obligatory family invites. I blocked my sister and her friend who joined in on her meanness. She has taken to emailing and texting me under spoof emails and phone numbers. Calling me irrelevant, embarrassing, disgusting, ugly, childish, greedy, no one showed up because they don’t like me, never been liked, etc.
My mother has spoken to her, but hasn’t reached out to me since the party when I said I was hurt at what she shared in confidence and need to think about what I want from this family anymore. My mother swears she went through her phone and saw the messages, but other parts of her (mothers) story don’t align. My mother historically has victim mindset over everything and could do no wrong.
I’m hurt, I’m upset. My husband has been amazing, but he doesn’t have any family that we could lean on ever. I’m torn between going fully no contact between my siblings who enable my sister, my mother who is emotionally abusive and enables her and doesn’t protect the rest of us, and calling it a day. Or going no contact with siblings, low contact with my mother, and never returning until they get their shit together and go to therapy. I just don’t know what is best anymore since I know my mom will never stand up to her. Family is all I’ve ever really had outside a close knit group of 3 friends, so it’s hard to go from everything to nothing in the blink of an eye.
Ever since my dad died and my sister took over, I have felt like I don’t have a spot in the family anymore. My sisters best friend of 15 years has always wanted to be apart of our big family since she had a dysfunctional one herself, and joins us on family vacations, Christmas, every waking moment. She is just as bad as my sister, and my sister is her only friend so she bows down to her. Since dad died, it’s like my sister and her friend don’t want me in the family and want to give the bff my daughter spot and to ostracize me. All of this is making me spiral and spiral and spiral. I haven’t been this bad mentally in a really, REALLY long time and it’s triggering me a lot.

As a grown man, I hate blaming my parents for issues I have. Compared to so many horror stories, my childhood, parents and family were wonderful. In general, I try to believe that people do the best they can with the resources they have and rarely have true malicious intent. Unfortunately, there is one “childhood trauma” that I am stuck with and I don’t see any way to get over it.
For as long as I can remember, my boomer parents and gen x siblings would absolutely torture me about girls. Like every girl I ever came into contact with from preschool on I would get the “oh that’s your giiiirrrrlllfrieend” crap. I was a sensitive, people-pleasing kid and this really bothered me. To make matters worse, My family had the awful habit of “making fun” of, quite literally, anyone on the planet. Too rich, too poor, imperfect physical features, race, ethnicity, religion, different style clothes, different interests or hobbies, nobody was safe.
I went through adolecence and young adulthood mostly terrified to interact with women. Just now am I getting to the point where I have actual platonic female friends. School dances and prom were major sources of stress. I had whole relationships in high school and college that I kept secret from my family, including a 3 year relationship with who I now consider to be the “love of my life.” How awful must these young women have felt that I was hiding them from my family? I’ll never forgive myself.
After college, I moved back home (see people pleaser comment above). A month later my longterm girlfriend broke up with me. Why? Because I was still hiding her from my family. I certainly can’t blame her and I hope she is living the life she deserves.
A hazy, drunken, depressed and miserable 7 or 8 years then ensued that frankly I’m lucky I survived. I was a total wreck on the inside but put together enough on the outside so as to not worry anyone. Good job, remained in shape, outwardly I was just a fun, drunk, party guy in his 20’s. No relationships. Any dates were to a bar. Very rare sexual encounters were risky, drunken, one or few night stand situations.
At 29 I started dating my now wife. After a few months of secret dating I fought through and introduced her to my family. I’m grateful that my wife pulled me out of the abyss. After a few months of dating I finally got my own apartment and started to live as an actual adult. We got engaged at a year and a half and married at two years. We’ve been married for 10 years. We have a house and two wonderful children. My thirties were far better than my 20s and 40’s are looking great so far. Except…..
Lately, I have not been able to shake feelings of regret or what might have been. While we get along, our marriage is like a business agreement. It works. We’re busy, the kids are busy, we don’t or can’t take time for ourselves, we are both constantly engaged in jobs, cooking, dishes, laundry, cleaning, kids activities, etc. We both tackle everything and neither of us is ever sitting or relaxing. It never seems like we can get ahead of things. My wife is totally codependent and cannot handle anything on her own. She also may be a hoarder in the making. She was diagnosed with OCD as a child and is probably somewhere else on spectrum, terrible anxiety, too. I’ve made all adjustments to accommodate her needs. New, self-employed job so I can control the schedule, no hobbies or friends, I am always available for her needs. She refuses to get any outside help with her mental health. It’s all on me. She’s miserable, always mad at something or somebody(her family tells me this is her historic personality and she’s just like other family members), always sick, she has gained well over 100lbs and the health issues that go with that are starting to creep in. More for me to deal with! Sex life is dead. Totally vanilla when it does happen-missionary with shirts and socks on. Multiple times over the past 5 years we have gone 8-12 months without intimacy. Any attempts to discuss these issues as adults are met with rage and blaming everyone else. Her position is basically that I married her and just have to live with whatever. She also knows I’ll never leave the kids(I’m not saying that’s the right call for everyone but it’s the right call for me).
Here’s the thing- I can handle a lot with a smile on my face. I am longing for those relationships I had in early adulthood where my SO actually wanted me to be happy sometimes instead of only living to serve her needs. I can’t get these ghosts of girlfriends past out of my head. Every single night I am having vivid dreams about them sexual and otherwise. Marriage with kids is a lot different than college relationships so who knows what could have been. For me, the unknown is what haunts me.
