2024.05.22 01:14 PinaColada-PorFavor I can’t remember the name of the song or band, but it was from the 90’s or early 2000’s about alien abduction maybe and loneliness afterwards.

Ok, I’m not sure if it was about alien abduction but was maybe about that or they used it as a metaphor. They talked about not being able to sleep and lying in bed awake and lonely. It was a male singer and a beautiful song that seemed to be about the depths of loneliness. The band was not famous. Sorry so obscure but I can’t get the idea of this song out of my head. I feel like the song even had the word Encounter in the title but maybe not. Anyway, thanks for reading.
Edit: Oh and the style would be indi-rock probably.

2024.05.22 01:09 VaquitaPorpoise TDP season 6 episode title theories for episodes 3 and 4 round 2

Hey TDP fandom! Welcome back to another round of season 6 episode theories! As we continue to wait on Netflix to give us a release date for season 6, we’ll continue to theorize on the episodes of The Frozen Ship and The Starscrapper. These might be short as there’s not much to depict, but I’ll do my best to theorize the plot of what might happen in these two episodes.
The Frozen Ship: Aaron Ehasz and Devon Giehl revealed a poem that was about a legendary sailor named Esmeralda Skall who sailed the seas across the human kingdoms of Katolis, Duren, and Neolandia. She yearned for adventure and glory so much which caused her to leave the man she was destined to marry. She died regretting that she’ll never confess her love to her partner.
This scenario is very similar to Rayla and Callum! She left Callum on the night of his birthday during the events of Through the Moon graphic novel that takes place during seasons 3 and 4 on a 2 year time skip. Rayla developed a thirst for revenge against Viren wanting desperately to know what happened on the whereabouts of Runaan and her parents which caused her to damage her relationship with Callum. Upon returning back to Katolis, Rayla admitted that she allowed revenge to get in the way of her relationship with Callum that she lost the most important and best thing that ever happened to her when he was asleep.
In this episode, we might get a backstory of Esmeralda Skall and how her ship got stuck in the Frozen Sea which I think Rayla and Callum would travel to the Frozen Sea and use the ship to travel to the Starscrapper. Based on her backstory, Rayla and Callum might have that serious talk they desperately need to fully repair their relationship, love and trust in each other.
Before getting there, Rayla and Callum might use the boat traveling through the river which we see Stella, two star birds, the baitlings and the adoraburrs from an accidental revealed image.
The Starscrapper: Aaron Ehasz posted a clue revealing an image of a man shaving his face using a blade. This is where Rayla and Callum will arrive to the Starscrapper to retrieve the Novablade.
Thanks to a couple of screenshots seeing Rayla and Callum standing near the Starscrapper at the Frozen Sea and the teaser from TDP’s video game trailer showing a few blindfolded Skywing elves flying down to the center of the Starscrapper helping Rayla travel with them using a elevator to decelerate we already know what the episode is going to look like. Callum might be flying alongside the blindfolded Skywing elves to the Starscrapper’s center.
When Rayla and Callum go to the Starscrapper, they’ll meet Astrid and the other blindfolded Skywing elves which they may be suspicious of what they’re doing here and why they had come.
When Callum and Rayla tell them they need the Novablade to kill Aaravos and use the Quasar diamonds to free Rayla’s family, the Skywing elves will put them to the test on a very serious trial. This might be where we might see Callum flying to the night sky blindfolded using his wings before they disappear as they hit the starry night sky causing him to fall into gravity in midair. Callum might even learn and connect to the Star arcanum in that moment.
What do you guys think about these theories for episodes 3 and 4?

2024.05.22 01:02 Ur_Anemone Why was my face stolen for a dating profile?

Why was my face stolen for a dating profile?
When Mandy Appleyard discovered that her photograph was being used by a stranger online, she began a personal quest to find out how it had happened
…I was annoyed — but first things first. I would need to contact Match, explain the mess and have it investigate then report back: simple. Except that contacting Match as a non-subscriber was a challenge beyond my capabilities. I pored over the website. “Match does not have a customer support phone number … Please be aware that there are fake customer support numbers posted on various websites, none of which are affiliated with Match.” My blood was boiling by the time I read: “Profile checking: all ads and photos are checked individually before they are published.” What? My photos certainly hadn’t been checked or they wouldn’t have been published on a false profile for millions of people to see.
I asked my friend if he could message Clare5432 to tell her we were on to her. He kindly did so, but came back to me within minutes to say she had blocked him. “Would you contact Match then, and complain on my behalf?” I asked him. “Get them to take it down?” He did that, and Match took the profile down within hours. I assumed, naively, that was the end of the story…
Knowing my face had been used to create a bogus dating profile, I was irritated that someone had stolen my picture and at least part of my bio to sell themselves under false pretences. Terrible things happen on the internet, which from some angles looks like a cesspit of fraud, depravity and deception. What had happened to me wasn’t the crime of the century but it felt decidedly icky.
Things were about to get worse. In January another male friend phoned me to say he was on Match and had seen my profile on there. He knew I wasn’t online dating so he was immediately suspicious. I realised we were on familiar territory when he sent me a screenshot of “Wendy, 63, in Wakefield”. It was the image of me that had been used last time, with a profile that described an outdoorsy free spirit. My pal immediately contacted Match on my behalf and straight away it took the profile down.
When this happened for the third time, earlier this month, I was livid. A male friend of a friend said he’d been reading my profile on Match the night before and really liked it. “Great picture of you too,” he messaged. I told him I wasn’t on Match and asked him to send me a screenshot. He hasn’t — and now seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth. I can only assume “my” image and profile are still up there for the world to see and exploit.
So I now know that my identity has been stolen by online dating scammers at least three times, although it could be 1,003 times for all I know. I’m made aware of the theft only when someone I know happens to stumble across it and takes the trouble to alert me.
“Don’t you feel just a bit flattered that someone has used your picture? They must think you’re attractive to have bothered!” a friend suggested. The answer is that I don’t. No part of me is flattered, instead I find it deeply creepy. It feels like a trespass on my life, a theft over which I have no control, an invasion of my privacy that makes me feel queasy but which I can’t stop happening again. And again.
I posted on Facebook that I was looking for advice on how to close this fraud down once and for all, hoping someone in my online social media community would have an answer. They did — but not the one I was hoping for. A journalist friend said this probably wasn’t a lone woman using a false profile as romantic bait. Instead, she suggested, it was more likely to be the work of an industrial-scale scam where gangs of people in “fraud factories” (often in north Africa and southeast Asia) create false profiles on dating sites using stolen photos and false information. They then contact potential victims. Over time the conversations become more intimate and personal as the scammer builds trust with their target.
The targets are often vulnerable people in their fifties, sixties and seventies, perhaps new to dating after long marriages that have ended in divorce or bereavement, sometimes lonely, invariably trusting. Low-hanging fruit, in other words, for the wily thieves who groom them, telling them how beautiful and desirable they are, forge a speedy romantic connection then ask for money — a little to begin with, a lot later on…
These scammers commit a fraud, the false profile is reported and shut down, but the con artists immediately set up a new false profile using the same pictures — and on and on it goes.
Sadly there are a thousand iterations of this scenario: coercive controllers who manipulate vulnerable people into believing they have found love. They send photographs, gifs, songs and poems during their “courtship”, telling their victims they are surgeons or spies, Nasa physicists or retired army colonels. They send (stolen) pictures of their children, their luxury home, their fast car, then one day start asking for gift cards, crypto, or money to buy heart surgery or a flight home.
The people perpetuating these cybercrimes are often doing so because they have been trafficked and trapped. Sixty Kenyans were rescued from “fraud factories” after the customer service jobs they applied for in Thailand turned out to be a cover for cybercrime. One woman had been promised a monthly salary of £675 but ended up targeting Americans by creating enticing profiles on Tinder, Instagram and Facebook. “They fall in love with you and you can tell them about cryptocurrency. You start stealing from them,” the 31-year-old woman said, describing in Swahili how she was forced to work in a vast call centre-like hall with hundreds of people of many nationalities…
All of which brings us back to my predicament and how I’m being made to feel complicit in these grubby scams. My face is being used to deceive trusting people who could be fleeced of everything. The victims of a serious and organised crime repeated over and over again but which remains outside the victims’ control. I’m the frontwoman for online activity that may be illegal or dishonest. If it’s neither of those things it’s still plain embarrassing, because I have no idea what the person using my image is saying or doing.
Someone who knows exactly how this feels is Christian Gerhard Boving, a Danish doctor who says scammers have been using photos of him for years to target victims online. “Suddenly all these pictures were stolen by scammers using them to hit on innocent people around the world. They are cruel, sophisticated and evil people doing this.”
Boving has called on companies such as Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, to do more. “There should be verification of every new profile being created, like you have to verify yourself with a passport or driving licence, so you know it’s a real person behind the profile,” he says. Perhaps social media companies could use AI to trawl for photographs they know have been stolen and used before on fraudulent accounts — mine and Boving’s, for starters. Certainly the companies running dating apps should make it easy for non-subscribers such as me to contact them with a complaint.
The problem is getting worse, the latest figures showing that reports of romance fraud have risen by almost 60 per cent over four years. Action Fraud, the UK’s centre for fraud and cybercrime, says dating apps are a common place for scammers to find their victims. The top five platforms they use are Facebook, Plenty of Fish, Instagram, Tinder and Match.
As a journalist I like to think that I’m pretty savvy in the ways of the world, but stealing my credit card is one thing; stealing my face is something else. I’m tempted, next time this happens (and I have no doubt there will be a next time), to join whichever dating app is responsible and strike up a conversation with my alter ego. Let’s see where that takes me. Watch this space — and this face.

2024.05.22 00:39 throwawaytempest25 Now that I think about it, Inojin and Himawari's friendship makes a shit ton of sense cuz Inojin's just like Boruto. Both have two parents high up in Konoha's social spheres, both took shortcuts to appeal to their parents only to get humbled, and both have a ego overshadowing their kindness.

Ironically, given what happened with Boruto at the end of part 2, it'd make sense she'd latch onto the person who reminded her the closest to her brother....well her pure blooded brother. I know some people surprised what happened last chapter doesn't quite work cuz we didn't see their friendship in the manga itself, but Boruto being a story not just told in manga format actually helps in this regard.
In the anime, it was Hima that got Inojin out of his funk when he couldn't use the Super Beast Scroll, and keep in mind, he used to hate Boruto and Himawari because they were the Hokage's kids and he assumed any of their accomplishments were only because of that (huh, imagine a vast majority of people claiming anything you did was only because of someone else and never giving you the credit for your own abilities: a reference to Boruto's own struggles he's lowkey insecure about in the beginning or teen celebrities who's parents either berate them to try to mooch off their success while dealing with lesser lucky people jealous of their success without ever considering the turmoil until they release that trauma out, you decide.)
Who knew getting to know and understanding someone would be the key to weakening one's ignorant hatred and prejudice for relatively innocent people....I feel like that's a metaphor for something
And in the Boruto novel that takes place after that episode but before the Genin Graduation Test and the Chunin Exams, Mitsuki found out Inojin and Himawari were meeting up to paint together to the point they had matching sketchbooks, even saying she was completely attached to him.
And there's minor things too.
The Yamanaka clan symbol is the bush clover while Himawari's name means sunflower. Yes, that's why she has the shirt....still find it weird someone thought her shirt made her look like a hooker....then again, any woman whose barely covered up gets that label, I live in a counter where a reporter couldn't get an interview access because she wore sleeveless, so I'm used to that.
Also, funny casting gag I found. In Bakuman, Inojin's voice actor Atsuhi Abe plays the protagonist while Miho Azuki is the love interest, played by Himawari's VA, Saori Hayami. Make that of what you will.
Then again Inojin's like 14 and Himawari's like 13 so whatever.

Huh, just realized Inojin's one of the few people in his gen who don't have a chakra nature. Chocho's got lightning but doesn't use it, Metal hasn't gotten one yet, and neither does Wasabi: not as many cat themed yokai in Japanese mythology, shame.

2024.05.22 00:01 Gossip-Luv2 Retrieved the content of Tweets on SLB's eccentricities - The Mythmaker’s Legacy - Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, I am the Greatest of Them All!

Thanks to Patron Member u/Entharo_entho - Here is the wiped out Tweet retrieved
Context - Wiped out from Internet
In March, I got a chance to work with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali right after he made Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Alia Bhatt, playing the titular character in the film, retweeted me.
The headline (in my head) was going to be, ‘The Boy From Kamathipura Goes To Bhansali Mandi.
Then reality struck in April.
One of my closest friends Sweta called me from the Shivapuri National Park near Kathmandu and put me on speaker. Two other friends Mona and Ayush were listening to the WhatsApp call.
How’s it going with Bhansu?’ Sweta asked.
We are not working together anymore,’ I said.
Whaaaaaaaat?’ the three people shrieked, creating a wavy disturbance in audio frequency.
Whyyyyy?’ they cried, collectively anguished.
He said he is not feeling the vibes.’
What?’
Vibes,’ I said aloud, causing a seismic tremor in the audio frequency.
What vibes?’ Sweta jibed, ‘Maybe he can’t feel the vibrator.
Laughter upped the vibes.
First, a little context on how I got that far. Check this, this, this & this.
So my tweets were going viral in February-March.
In the second week of March, a woman DM’d me saying she loves the tweets. I said thank you. She said she works at Bhansali Productions.
Whoopsie Daisy!
I asked if I could be a part of the production. She checked with SLB and team. He said he wants to meet now.
NOW!
How?
I was in Calcutta.
I called an actor friend in Bombay and told him about it.
They will book your tickets and put you up in 5-star,” he said, “Like Hollywood.
This is Bhansaliwood,” I said, “Yahan dhanda hamesha manda hai.
I flew (on my own expense) and met him.
I was ‘prepared’ by his team for the meeting with His High and Mightiness.
I was told:
Arre, then what do I say?
I sashayed in a brown kurta and white linen trousers. Please see Madhuri Dixit-Nene’s brown ghagra for aesthetic reference I used from my very limited wardrobe of the only kurta I had at the time. By the way, the chorus sings ‘Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje,’ aesthetically referencing you know what, right?
He was lunching with his minions (strictly calling them minions from his pov) when I arrived in his pristine white dining hall in a building called Magnum Opus. Where else should he reside, no? Both his house, and his office (where I was ‘prepared’ earlier) were tastefully done in creamy white.
It was, as I said to my friend later, like walking into a cumulus cloud, or like sitting on his favourite singer Lata Mangeshkar’s lap. Calm, serene and quite surreal. I was inside his snow globe. Violins from a Bach concerto (in my head) were replaced with say Madan Mohan’s doleful rendition of ‘Mai ri main ka se kahoon peedh apne jiya ki.’ (Side effect of writing this on Mother’s Day.)
I look for books when I enter a house for signs of intelligent life. There were lots of lamps and candelabras but where were the stacks of books they were perched on? The aesthetic was high on film set disposable kitsch. I stared into a cumulative void.
The minions were intensely debating Darjeeling momos. What’s that? I spent my childhood there. Never heard of this GI tag!
SLB relished his meal and said, “I want puranpoli today.
Puranpoli appeared not out of thin air, but a house-help flipping wishes instantly on a griddle on the fifth floor. We were on the first floor. Although the puranpoli is shaped like a flying saucer, it doesn’t fly, perhaps burdened by the weight of excess ghee and crowd-pleasing expectation. It does, however, reach SLB’s plate at the speed of light.
Give him some,’ he asked a minion to serve me while I waited on the sofa.
I’ve had lunch, thank you,’ I said, trying to behave. The plate arrived. I took a mousy bite to exhibit my failing attempt to transform into a champion minion.
When he came to chat, he noticed the unfinished food and gently reminded me how there were days he went hungry. I should have rolled my eyes for my own lean days.
One should not waste food,’ he said.
I don’t,’ I said, ‘I was going to parcel it home in a doggy bag.
Hearing the word doggy, his well-behaved dog came over to inspect me.
He observed me. I petted her perfunctorily. Am a cat person. Stereotypical writer stuff — allergic to undesired petting and attention.
So, what have you done?’ he asked, sitting on a sort of empire-style bergere chair. Full marks for faux-ornate.
A novel, some writing for a series,’ I said nervously, dismissively.
Anything I might have seen?’ he asked.
No, not worthwhile.’
Are you interested in direction also?
No, am not delusional.
A moment passed. I might have displayed an errant repartee.
I mean, I can only write, or am trying to,’ I said. L’esprit de l’escalier.
He gave me a spiel on writing, how screenplay is an art not many understand, etc, et cetera.
I nodded to make his voice disappear.
What are you writing now?
I showed him the cover of my new book, The Last Courtesan, featuring my mother, on my phone.
Oh, this is so fascinating,’ he said.
He spoke rapturously about Calcutta’s great food and colonial architecture when I mentioned growing up in Bowbazar kothas. If you watch any of his interviews now on YouTube you will realise he only speaks in raptures. He’s always explaining things like an impassioned conductor at a dime-store opera. It can exhaust the boorish audience immediately. He spoke about living in the Kamathipura area as a child when I said I had lived there. The mythmaker was interested in exoticising his own legend as an ‘outsider’.
But how will you work here if your mother is in Calcutta?’ he said, ‘I am a maa-ka-bhakt.
Everything is about him or his mother. I have reached that stage too, though only by circumstances unavoidable.
Actually it was my mother who asked me to come here. I told her it would only work out if you understand that I will have to vacillate between the two cities initially. Jaise Sanjay ki Leela hai, waise meri Rekha.
Corny dialogue, but worked. No one calls him by his first name, except perhaps his own mother. He is sir for everyone.
If I am speaking to you for so long means I like you,’ he said. ‘Otherwise, I would have asked you to leave long ago.’
Barely five minutes into the conversation, he asked me to return to his office and inform his team that I was going to be a part of his writer’s room.
I went back to his office and read a script. This is the part I cannot mention. His legal team sits in the adjacent room.
I flew to Calcutta and was to return after a week. I had to make arrangements for my mother’s tri-weekly dialysis sessions at a nearby hospital, figure out a tiffin-delivery service for her, find a house help (she sent four nurses scurrying in the past), all of which is a bit of a task in this retrograde city.
Remember the woman who had DM’d me about my tweets? She messaged. She had met SLB after my meeting. He said this about me: ‘What a wonderful find. That boy has so much potential and is talented. Most importantly, he is sensitive.’
I told her I’d get this engraved on my tombstone.
Like how he wants to take Alia Bhatt’s golchakkar in Dholida to his grave.
It’s a shot that I will take to my grave. If there’s any shot that I want to be played when I breathe my last, it would be Alia doing that shot. It is the best thing I have seen an actor do in a very long, long time.
I was only emulating the high priest of hyperbole in my tombstone comment. Perhaps I was regressing into a minion.
I had only managed a few tasks for mother when I was back in Bombay. It worried me that the old, frail woman with shaky limbs and slurred speech was trying to be brave to send me to work. I hadn’t worked since the pandemic; she was in and out of hospitals so frequently that I had surrendered the thought of getting another job ever again. Taking care of her was my full-time job.
The first day in his office was to chill in my new, aesthetically pleasing kurta I had shopped for in Gariahat. There was a security camera in every corner that was apparently accessible on his phone. My skin tingled with this information. Chilled. He was at home. Probably watching. That’s a great way to create a myth.
The next day, there were more minions on the lunch table in his first floor apartment. The magically appearing steamy and fragrant sheera was delicious. A minion deemed it the best sheera in the city. I nodded to make that statement evaporate.
A courier boy interrupted for a document signature. SLB flared at a spelling mistake in the document papers.
Go wash your face and come back,’ he yelled at the young man.
The minions at the table laughed nervously. I so wished I was wearing a mask to cover my surprise emoji face.
The minions on the table were writers and assistant directors.
Dastavez,’ SLB said, ‘would that be correct to use?’
Kaaghzaat,’ the minion replied.
Kaaghzaat is paper, dastavez is document,’ said the second minion.
You always mislead me,’ SLB sternly reprimanded the first minion. ‘Don’t ever do that again.
Only that minion tried to laugh, offering an apology. He shut the minion down.
My mask, my mask emoji face.
A third minion was sulking in a corner before I arrived for the writing session. This minion had reportedly offered a script suggestion, which he disliked and barked down. I liked this minion the most. Relatable.
A faint noise of a person running or perhaps just a rumbling sound from somewhere outside interrupted the room. He looked up at the ceiling and said, ‘No one lives there. Am certain it is a ghost. I hear running sounds all the time. I have heard sounds of furniture being dragged.
I wondered if he actually believed in half the things he uttered, or was he just saying it to create enigma about himself. Mythical thoughts certainly kept him preoccupied.
Reality bored him. SLB had nothing good to say about the ‘current plague’ of South Indian films upsetting the Bollywood cartel. He compared them to a circus. He wasn’t kind to the actors he had worked with in his last film. He cracked lame jokes about everyone and everything. The minions laughed and kept him busy. I chuckled a few times to blend in. The mythmaker revelled in his prophesies about the impending doom of charlatans with no aesthetics: just crass, commercial peddlers pimping art. It was all said to amuse and bemuse while he fussed over the yellow shade of fabric from several swatches.
When he left for his music session, the minions bitched him out, and how! All the horror stories I had heard over the years about his moods, behaviour, language and violent temper were true. How else will he create myth about himself as a maestro? The Glomar response. Let the plebs indulge in hearsay. I will neither confirm nor deny. The minions sang effigy songs in happy tunes, if I may stretch this part a bit like his penchant for high camp.
That night, when I went to my actor friend’s house, where I was temporarily staying, I said to him, ‘I don’t think I will last a week there.
I was rattled by how he spoke to the courier boy and the minions, with no filter. Well, at least it was clear he had no tact, endearing as that might be of a ‘genius’ if one compromises with his erratic behaviour. The CEO of his company does it beautifully and advises to develop a ‘thick hide’ around him. Cows, essentially.
Verve
The words genius, great, master, maverick, were so loosely bandied by his office staff even in his absence that I was tempted to add auteur, if they could spell or pronounce it. They worked in perpetual fear of him turning up at any hour and checking on their tidiness. A minion whined she wasn’t dressed appropriately for his surprise visit. Once, he even cut pay for unscheduled leave, said another minion. A minion narrated a shot he copied from a photographer in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Another minion recounted how he made her cry on shoot by screaming at her for a silly mistake. Minions couldn’t leave the office till his evenings were scheduled. It was a well-paying job so long as they did not have to see ‘chacha’s’ face and only applaud his cinematic sorcery.
His office team would assign me desk-work and warn me not to inform him about it.
What am I supposed to say if he asks?
Make up something,’ I was told.
Why should I?
You will slowly understand,’ I was told.
His team of assistants would sneak around me. I didn’t know who was reporting what back to him. He would interrogate the management team. They would lash out at me for informing the assistants. The management wanted to control me a certain way because ‘sir’ does not need to know everything. It was quite a guessing game. He had created an ecosystem of complete chaos and loved the hubbub. New people were hired for him to use the ‘new energy’ to rekindle the ‘old energy’ that needed to be reminded it could be snuffed out and replaced. He thrived on confusion because it all boiled down to him to sort out the mess. He was the provider so long as the minions ingratiated and served their grand master.
One time he called me upstairs, what his CEO called the god’s chamber aka the Shahenshah’s durbar: his office on the seventh floor. Walls were lined with giant posters of his films. We minions sat on the fifth floor. I was of course by now a week old in the toady mill. On the seventh floor, production team members, set designer, director assistant, young people sat on the floor, armed with notebooks and laptops, alert and sugar-tongued. He sat on a throne and dictated each one about their duty. A masseur massaged his leg. He asked me what I thought of a script. I said it was lovely. He asked me to elaborate. I said I liked a character’s resolve. He denied it was written. I said that’s my interpretation. A minion promptly backed me.
What changes do you suggest?’ he asked.
We should sit on it collectively and decide,’ I said.
He mumbled something. My suggestion was dismissed. I was dismissed. I bowed out. A minion whispered to me, ‘We all walk on eggshells around him.’ I had to be a chicken in a coop I suppose.
Another time he dismissed my suggestion for a scene saying, ‘That’s not how art is made.’ I had referenced a scene from Bandit Queen to illustrate my point. Just like his entire oeuvre is homage to a classic. How else does he make his art?
Allow me to illustrate with a frame from his first film Khamoshi: The Musical. The second image is from Pakeezah.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam references Red Beard, Woh 7 Din.
Devdas references Pakeezah more than once.
Black references The Miracle Worker.
Saawariya references Pyaasa, Awaara.
Guzaarish references Whose Life Is It Anyway?
Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela references Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story.
Bajirao Mastani references Mughal-E-Azam.
Padmaavat references Mirch Masala.
Gangubai Kathiawadi, let’s give him the benefit of doubt is all his own, original artistry.
The American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch once meta quoted the French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard when he said:
Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery — celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from — it’s where you take them to.
SLB believes he takes art and betters it, removing the grubby coat of slime from the sublime, often not concerned with acknowledging the source. He is a master’s master, elevating it to an otherworldly experience, the creator of a mythoverse.
He asked me to rewrite a scene I didn’t agree with. He banged the script folders on the table like a petulant, little child. I watched his posture change into a frump. Tiger Shroff’s ‘Bacchi ho kya,’ dialogue comes to mind.
You are talking like those critics who find fault but don’t know how to write. They should write the film,’ he said.
That argument will never make sense to me but since I write movies now and not just about them, I rewrote the scene in half an hour and showed it to him. He found it rubbish.
I was not called to the writer’s room for a week.
His CEO said I should go to his house; hang around him, like the other assistants whose only purpose in life is to feed his ego. We are slaves to his vision, she said. She thought I was a better writer than the team he had assembled. ‘From whatever I read, only three lines of your work on social media, I could sense it,’ she said.
Either she was encouraging, or bluffing with a perfectly Zen face. From the hundreds of Ganesh idols stacked in her room, it was clear she wasn’t a reader. She was good at reading numbers, data, and stats. She would sense a sign if one of the metal idols sucked milk from a spoon on the day she enquired about box –office figures.
There was more than one right-wing hardliner in his office. Secular staff was invisible. A pretty minion in baby pink t-shirt, whose main grouse was that another minion called him a Barbie doll, said he was happy with the Modi government building roads in his home state Bihar. Another minion countered him by asking: What about the persecution of minorities by the same government? The pretty minion said he didn’t care for that. He was assisting ‘sir’ because he wanted to be an actor. Which lead me to wonder how many Muslim actors has this production worked with? Silly of me to think, right? Given that I myself don’t use my Muslim surname. I’ve now successfully planted a myth in your head. That’s how it works.
In the time that I was in Versova during my brief stint at Bhansali Productions, I met several people with their own SLB horror story. A producer said, ‘He is a difficult man but life changes for good after you work with him. Some people want to go through hell first. Life bann jaati hai.’ I didn’t understand why purgatory was necessary. Another former assistant said, ‘When you work with the worst (SLB) and the best (KJO), you are ready for the rest.
A young woman gave him a thesis she wrote on his films. He asked her to write a book on her. She said she wanted to assist as a director. She never heard from him. A filmmaker said SLB was too friendly with another assistant, suggesting intimacy. A writer wasn’t given credit in a film.
Another writer was promised his script will be turned into a film but it never took off and now he feels his life has been ruined. A young filmmaker’s debut movie SLB produced was delayed, not promoted, and called ‘kachra’ to his face.
The young man said SLB is sexist, homophobe, classist, fat shamer, emotional abuser, and a body shamer. “He is a joyless pit of darkness where happiness goes to die. And those are the nicest words I can think of to describe him,” he said. Another filmmaker said a choreographer was in a relationship with SLB and wanted to marry him but he wouldn’t even touch her, a hotly discussed conversation amongst his minions.
Everything sounds hokum. A successful man is likely to upset a few. The few will talk. Their words may ring true through a gossamer veil of implausibility. Myths magnifying his persona.
There are too many myths about his personal life, aroused by his silence on the subject but all too obvious in his work. When people want to confirm with me, I am equally appalled at their lack of aesthetics. Like the great reader of curtains, Edgar Allan Poe, you only have to look at SLB’s use of billowy curtains in films to guess.
Above stanza, courtesy Poe, poem: The Raven.
Hope you get the drift, or draft, hawa ka jhonka! By the way, am digressing now, is the weirdly named character Sameer Rosselline in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam the first mainstream Hindi film hero to pass wind? The ruffled curtains are first to be cautioned though.
Unlike most people willing to swallow their pride to work with SLB, few like the eponymous Gangubai character choose izzat. The house-help employed in my actor friend’s house was asked to work as a cook in his house. When she heard the whimsy, dessert-craving demands, she declined the offer. I identify with her no-nonsense style.
In November 2021, a filmmaker read a film script I wrote and said, ‘This is SLB territory. Only he can make it. It is the modern love-story he has been wanting to make for a long time.
Are you sure?’ I asked, somewhat flattered but also bewildered.
Yes, we just have to change the setting from Calcutta-Bombay to Calcutta-New York. It is what he has been trying to crack. I’ll get him to read it.
I never spoke to SLB about my script. I did not want to look like a schemer. I had only got a chance because of my mother’s story. I had come to write courtesan songs. Hindi films are recognised by their songs. His films have show tunes that live on long after the sequins and mirrors reflect a decadent style. He employs the old-fashioned method of making Hindi films, which is to stitch scenes around a song, not the other way round. And when you glean your references from the best of classical melodies, how can you falter?
My own SLB story is that after watching Saawariya in 2007, I wrote a few songs, moved to Bombay, lived in Versova, close to Magnum Opus, and hoped to meet him, but made no effort even though I came in close contact with people who worked directly with him. I never requested for a meeting. Over the years, I too had heard a few horror stories about him. I only believe in what I see. I waited when he would call for me, my work would have to speak for itself.
A day before Good Friday, his CEO sat me down and said it’s not working out.
There’s a mythical story of how Lata Mangeshkar was on her way to record a song for SLB but the heavens poured and she had to turn her car back. A typical SLB frame of hope and hopelessness.
Never work with your idols. You’ll have a better story to imagine and create myths.
I was so relieved to leave. I hadn’t got a moment to read, or write, let alone think since I got here. Why I wanted to work with SLB was to not believe in hearsay. I will either confirm or deny.
Great,’ I said, ‘everyone deserves an off on Good Friday.
The office was unsure about public holidays. SLB’s mood dictated the calendar.
Before returning to Calcutta, I met a friend entrenched in the film business.
When she heard of the fiasco, she said, ‘I’ve heard he is very anal, is he?
The vibrator jokes never stop.

Why does “escribirle” translate to “writing” and not “to write to”
Why doesn’t the original sentence translate to “Soon you will start to write poems to my horse”? Why didn’t they use “escribiendo” if they wanted to use the gerund?

2024.05.21 23:18 Xngears How to…Actually Get Started

I want to get over my decades-long hump and actually write something. Actually. Start.
But I need to get past the two demons that have been barring my way for so long: Fear and Indecision
The Fear part I’ll have to conquer on my own: the fear of writing something crappy, the fear of whether I’ll commit to something, the fear of if I’ll even like writing. I know I’ll have to push and overcome this myself.
As for Indecision, to be more precise I’m flooded with ideas and don’t know how to narrow it down: which genre should I start with: Fantasy, Horror, a combination of both? Should I strive to start with a beginning/first chapter or jump to a “cool scene” I have without context? What’s the best way to narrow down all these random thoughts and ideas and actually put them down to pen…metaphorically, since I’m typing on an iPad.
I’m sure this is exactly what every amateur writer struggles with, but I could use some advice and/or tips to help conquer my indecision and actually pick a specific idea to work on….at least until I decide to work on something else. But the important thing here is how to best actually START.

2024.05.21 23:03 ParanoidAltoid Internal Family Systems - The psychotherapy technique that may have inspired Celeste

Came across an article on a "hot new psychotherapy", Internal Family Systems (IFS). It appears to have directly inspired Celeste:
https://substack.com/home/post/p-144719880
IFS is about working with “parts”. You treat your mind as containing a Self - a sort of perfect angelic intellect without any flaws or mental illnesses - and various Parts - little sub-minds with their own agendas who can sometimes occlude or overwhelm the Self. During therapy, you talk to the Parts, learn their motives, and bargain with them.
For example, you might identify a Part of you that wants to sabotage your relationships. You will visualize and name it - maybe you call her Sabby, and she looks like a snake. You talk to Sabby, and learn that after your first break-up, when you decided you never wanted to feel that level of pain again, you unconsciously created her and ordered her to make sure you never got close enough to anyone else to get hurt. Then you and the therapist come up with some plan to satisfy Sabby - maybe you convince her that you’re older now, and better able to deal with pain, and you won’t blame her if you get close to someone and have to break up again. Then you see a vision of Sabby stepping aside, maybe turning off the Windmill Of Relationship Sabotage or something like that, and then you never sabotage your relationships again. It’s more complicated than that, but that’s the core.
It could also be parallel thinking, though the use of "Part of You" to describe Badeline and other similarities seem direct. Either way, it's not super important, the game and these therapists are dealing with the same issues. To explore:

Are some "Parts of You" actually evil demons?

This is the apparent tension in the IFS field, and the purpose of the above article, check it out for more. But basically, "classic IFS" says that everything in your mind is a part of you, fundamentally good, and to be bargained with. An attempt at exorcism will only scar you further.
But, many practitioners come to believe that nope, sometimes there are demons that need to be cast out. In the words of one such entity:
No, I'm not a part of her - I'm a much more powerful and beautiful being, and I'm going to crush her like a worm, the same way I'm going to crush you.
(Spoilers) Celeste comes down solidly in camp "Part of You". In fact, the central arc revolves around this question. Madeline starts off treating Badeline as a hostile force to be abandoned, before Granny convinces Madeline to apologize, allowing the two to work together and double-jump their way to the top of the mountain.
What do you all think? Is the "Part-of-You" reconciliation model always the best approach, or are there in fact some parts of us that are just bad and need to be abandoned?
(P.S. There is also tension between those who view IFS as a metaphor or helpful tool, and those who drink the kool-aid and take it literally. I'd note that is separate from the "part-of-you" vs "demon" debate, you can have metaphorical and literal interpretations of both, neither can claim to be the only scientific perspective.
Celeste side-steps this question nicely by being fictional. Note that some therapists have said "IFS may not work well with delusional, paranoid, or schizophrenic clients who may not be grounded in reality and therefore misuse the idea of 'parts'.")

2024.05.21 22:38 TheWither129 What “Gloam-Eyed” means

Gloam is the act of shifting to gloaming, the time of day. Its an archaic verb. Gloaming is twilight. “Gloam-eyed” in my opinion means something along “one who sees coming twilight”, or to see the end, or the phrase “death in their eyes” which means theyre set on killing.
Twilight could be a metaphor for death. The end of the day. “Ragnarok”, the norse end of the world, literally means “twilight of the gods”,(“ragna” from “regin”, meaning “gods”, and “røkkr” from “røkkva”, meaning the same as “gloam”, together as “ragnarøkkr”) and foretells the death of all but few gods, the fates of which are unknown as of now.
It also entails the burning of the World Tree, Yggdrasil, a great ash tree the world is built upon and around. Surtr the fire giant and the forces of Muspel would march across the bifröst to Asgard and set fire to the great ash, and the they would face off against the invaders.
What if the Gloam-Eyed Queen and Messmer were part of the Lands Between’s own Ragnarok, the GEQ being the “Twilight of the Gods”, using her flame to deliver death to them, while Messmer used his flame to purge the crucible and its denizens.
We see him killing the omen dancers, and so we can infer the crucible was central to this era, as it is celebrated with lion imagery and by omens. The corpses impaled by the impaler appear to all be horned like omens.
Together these two played the part of Surtr, their forces that of Muspel, bringing fire to destroy the gods and the land.

2024.05.21 22:30 Jetblackheart21 20 [M4NB/F] #Online #USA Dream a little dream of me

Im from Utah County and non-Mormon, so you can see the obvious fun I have dating /S. I'm not making this a sob story; the real reason I'm posting here is that it feels a bit more personal than most dating apps. I'm a pretty cheerful, confident guy. I can be a massive smartass and yap a lot, but I can have serious conversations and value communication. So, if you need an ear, I'm game, but do expect the same in return. I tend to be out and about a lot, usually doing stupid stuff and trying not to get hurt or in trouble while doing it. Most of the time, I'm a pro, but there are quite a few stories where I fumbled, lol.
I like to work out. I mostly do calisthenics. I'm admittedly fairly skinny but decently toned. I've also taken up running, but I'm not Usain Bolt, lol. I also play video games, mostly military simulation games like Arma and OHD. I also play platformers like Mario and Sonic, with Sonic being my go-to for my neurodivergent self. I'm big into history, mostly WW2 and the Cold War, and some WW1. I'm actually working on making a Cold War-themed board game.
On top of being a nerd, I do have a sensitive side. I know some of you have probably rolled your eyes, but hey, I like to write poems, and I'm a huge flirt when I warm up to someone. I'm looking for a sweet, caring person around my age and preferably living in the USA. I'm not picky, it's more important that we click, you know?
As for my values, I'm very liberal and an atheist. You don't have to share my views exactly, but I'm being upfront now to avoid causing issues later. I drink sometimes and don't use drugs. I don't care if you use pot, but anything harder is a no-go zone for me, as my family has some history with addiction. If you want to talk, I'm down to give you my Snap or Discord in DM

Your mind is filled with a strange chorus. You hear a lost litany, once sung in these hallowed halls...

On May 14, we published the first ever Sanctum Spotify playlist.
This playlist was key to cracking CQ4

https://x.com/sanctumso/status/1790374947837112755

https://preview.redd.it/fnw7hp7k7u1d1.png?width=504&format=png&auto=webp&s=d68b1b5c39183db0069112acac905bfd5257e4b7
Upon launch of CQ4, the playlist was updated.
This was what users saw.

The Wonderers needed to figure out that the duration (in seconds) of each song corresponds to the ASCII values of letters.
For example, the first song was 114 seconds, which corresponded to ACSII 114 - aka the letter 'r'.
Songs, in sequential order: r (ASCII 114, 1min 54s) i (ASCII 105, 1min 45s) t (ASCII 116, 1min 56s) u (ASCII 117, 1min 57s) e (ASCII 101, 1min 41s) t (ASCII 116, 1min 56s) s (ASCII 115, 1min 55s)
https://preview.redd.it/nfbvybfp7u1d1.png?width=678&format=png&auto=webp&s=b1c8ecc2bf8a78d751d955ad9c6abe34fcd26652
Now they needed to put the letters together in the order of the number emojis in the playlist's title.
This would give them the latin word 'tertius'
when translated to english would be
'third'.
https://preview.redd.it/2kx8pxwr7u1d1.png?width=680&format=png&auto=webp&s=b44b1d59b8464c7a5dd417e4eedb31cfce4df3ce
This was the decisive clue!
Knowing this, you would need to string the third word of each sentence in the poem of the Playlist image in sequential order to get the answer to this puzzle.
aka
THE EARNEST SHALL BUILD OUR NEW WORLD

2024.05.21 21:18 Yani-Madara List of clues that Dottore could be morally grey

-Disclaimer: This is an examination of Dottore being a complex morally grey villain that wasn't just born 100% evil, it's NOT a case that he's a good boy.-
I'll assume Zandik is Dottore since it's very likely (plus, someone tried to name their Wanderer that but it didn't work.)
Let's start with the oldest piece of lore:
-- Doctor's Pinion reveals a tragic past with unknown reasons for persecution --
When Pierro first tried to recruit Zandik / Dottore, he responded:
"Will you treat me like the Akademiya did? Will you call me a monster, a madman?" "Or will you treat me as my hometown did, and chase me away with pitchforks and clubs...?"
Some people assume the persecution was because of his experiments but it's important to note that the fact is we don't know what happened so there's a chance it wasn't something evil. That he could be chased away by "pitchforks and clubs" indicates he was weak at that point and couldn't do anything to stop it.
He also expresses a desire to merge humans with machines.
"With or without a Vision, and irrespective of their physique or combat skills,"Enhanced humans" would surely display strength far beyond the average."
This shows a desire to give power to the weak (likely including himself), even if they lack visions. Which isn't inherently a bad thing, it's just against the Akademiya's teachings. This applies even to Scaramouche, whose power had been locked by Raiden and he unlocked it.
-- Mysterious moral convictions --
Although a lot of the fandom accuses him of having no ethics or morals at all, there are several hints that this isn't the case.
He got mad at Scaramouche when told: "you only care about your crazy experiments" and told Nahida he has "his own convictions, we just don't share them" which were both conveniently not further explained. There is also the Jeht quest incident but i'll discuss it later on.
-- Eleazar hospital notes --
To briefly summarize the notes, he cured a patient using another dead patient's remains. His treatment was harsh but successful. These notes read like a Dr. House script, Dottore not giving a crap about the patient's religious beliefs included.
Abbas had a terrible ending because he had developed insanity and ran away. Zandik/ Dottore left a note warning not to let him go but it seems the staff didn't listen.
These notes align with how plague doctors were misunderstood and feared in real life. This motif was incorporated into his video game iteration, replacing the joker / clown persona.
Some people interpreted these notes as "Dottore murders and mutilates people that are alive for experiments" but there's no indication of that.
-- Aranara experiment notes --
These are the worst by far. It's unclear if the "subjects" were people with Eleazar or healthy people exposed to the withering for tests. It has to be pointed out that it seems the actions were done by his subordinates since it's likely Dottore reprimanding them at the end:
"This is a waste of resources. It is advisable to watch over the subjects' mental state in the next experiment and avoid exposing them to extreme environments... Lab Lead on duty: ████"
Yes, this sounds bad but it's proof he isn't a sadist that enjoys watching pain.
It also means he is higher in a moral standpoint than characters like Jack Horner. These type of characters don't care or enjoy deaths with the pretext of "we can always get more lackeys."
-- During the Jeht quest --
Froderock (a subordinate of Dottore) wants to capture an eremite. It is stated he is acting on his own and that Dottore gave an order not to kidnap eremites.
A note by another Fatui member states that Froderock is going to get killed for going against the order. We can theorize that the Harbinger himself would kill him. There's also a line about "following military regulations" which means his subordinates operate under a code and can't just kidnap people for experiments for the lols.
Fatui Negotiator: Professor Froderock was looking for live specimens in the desert — he always defied The Doctor's orders... That's just pure jealousy, if you ask me
...I urge you to consider, Captain Zoya, that if we are able to complete this research work in the desert, perhaps our entire expeditionary force may receive the favor of our great Harbinger... (This line has been crossed out using a red pen, and a line in red has been added: "How about you consider military regulations? Or perhaps you would like to consider how long you have left to live?")
A similar thing happened with Arlecchino in the Fortune Slip quest in Inazuma. Subordinates of her were acting on their own by following the previous Knave's teachings to make some orphans for the House.
-- *Time of Insight Artifact * --
It mentions a "mad scientist expelled by the akademia" and the text under it seems to be Dottore speaking.
The last part says:
"Those sellswords (Eremites) once did much for me. I trust they will not disappoint this time, either."
Combining Jeht quest with this makes it seem that eremites helped Dottore in some way and he is fond enough of them to slaughter a subordinate that brings them harm.
The following text seems to be Dottore's reason to want to capture Aranaras:
"The dream had to be captured — along with the inhabitants of the forest who could control dreams, To remind that friend once again of one's own form and the memories that were shared.
If the organ that governs memory has taken too much damage and cannot be healed, Then bring another old friend and dwell in dreams of the past together, Play in a small tree house, and explore the limitless depth of the jungle. Yes, that would be nice as well. For in dreams, everyone has a chance to start over."
I couldn't find more info about this "friend". It seems to be someone who suffered the effects of erosion or death, or an aranara that lost their memory.
-- Al Haitham's SQ --
Alhaitham: (To Siraj / the villain, after praising his intelligence)
"You would never let a test subject escape. Mistakes like that are beneath you, and you also won't leave any mistake without a resolution."
This is relevant because we know Dottore is canonically smarter than Siraj yet he didn't hunt down Collei (Barnabas is the one that traumatized and wanted to kill her), Abbas or Scara. It's a known thing there's a Fatui code that traitors and deserters are executed to avoid spilling secrets. Dottore leaves even Scara alone, you may argue that he was lazy but suspiciously Childe, who during Labyrinth Warriors was chasing Scara, soon appeared in Inazuma in a photo taking event, leaving for Snezhnaya, after Scara lost his gnosis.
It was never explained why Childe was chasing him to take away the Gnosis yet suddenly Scara appeared with Dottore without Childe. This is suspicious because Childe loves to fight, to the point he wanted to fight Arle while recovering on her SQ. He didn't even show up to finish off Scaramouche at the end.
To play Devil's advocate, it could also be Scaramouche is a part of some unknown plan too and nothing to do with mercy.
-- Dottore's speech to Niwa --
Taking into account Nahida's story that says: "the monster found solace in the kitten", the black bird referring to himself as "a monstrosity yet they are too foolish to see it" and Dottore's lines to Pierro:
"Will you call me a monster, a madman?"
Dottore sees himself as an inhuman monster. It puts into question if the following line wasn't just about Scaramouche and is actually a metaphor of Dottore speaking about his past:
"Escher: Even without you, that pure, innocent puppet would only end up being used by someone else instead. What other reason would a human have for befriending one who is not of our kind?"
Although Dottore refers to himself as "human", the two lines I quoted previously contradict this. Mentally he sees himself as not human (to the point of finding solace in a living puppet), even though his words say otherwise. There is also a chance this Dottore was no longer human at all, the Nahida story shows the monster bird had tiny floating birds around, even though he hadn't studied Scaramouche to create the segments.
There is also a stark contrast between Dottore joining the Fatui expresing concern over been rejected again yet he is embracing his monster persona in the Niwa scene.
"Escher: Think of me as a monster or a demon, if you wish... "
It could be a sign of a person with trauma who steered into an evil path. Kept getting called a monster until he accepted it.
There could be many reasons for the change, besides being used, -incoming pure speculation- he could have experimented on himself to have less emotions or taking this quote into account: "everyone has a chance to start over in dreams" he believes he can commit atrocities and it won't matter because he plans to do a reset somehow.
" The Doctor: Jester, I have completed the task you gave me. Creating a gap and infiltrating Inazuma's inner workings... Heh, what fun it was. The Doctor: I'd like to introduce a puppet to you. If he proves useful, let's make him our newest comrade. And if not... let's turn him to dust."
The bold part is more clues of either future Scara related scheming or Dottore's words are an act, mercy was shown when he became useless. It also seems that Pierro stirred him into a darker path.
I wouldn't say it's confirmation that Pierro is pure evil because we barely know anything about him, there's a chance it was for some greater good since that's a trend with the Harbingers.
-- Possible Sohreh murder --
At first glance, it seems way too obvious that Zandik did it, it's like watching a murder mystery movie and the first suspect is a red herring.
Since people frequently incorrectly state: "Dottore murdered a girl while they were having a picnic" like a fact, I'm going to make a deep dive into these notes:
First there is no clear motive for him killing Sohreh. (Niwa had a purpose.)
attack of Rishboland Tigers. In need of first aid..."
The bold part implies she was still alive while Zandik was dealing with the Ruin Guard. The broken bone didn't happen during the picnic while he was alone with her. She was declared dead and buried after the attack, she could have been killed during it while everyone was distracted.
-Does the Akademiya think that Zandik is responsible?-
There is a message board that says he was investigated over her murder.
The lack of motive combined with Zandik only receiving negative consequences from saving the team makes me think he was framed and acted on impulse / emotion when saving them or he turned it on to spook the tigers and it accidentally killed her.
Why? He could have just ran away and let everyone die to not reveal he was hiding ruin guard knowledge. Which he expressed on the notes that he didn't want the rest to know:
"I am going to take them (Ruin guards) apart, and record the size and shape one by one...
...But first of all, this secret must not be revealed to the other team members..."
...Thank goodness, Zandik reacted quickly. Otherwise, the whole team would be in serious trouble..."
-Some people argue that "running away and letting everyone die would have been too suspicious so he saved them."
It's more likely he was just a weak regular human at that point in his life so it wouldn't have been too suspicious to run away / he actually risked his life to shut it down.-
The 2 burned notes both state: "Someone seems to have burnt the contents in a hurry" it could have been the person trying to frame him. One of them is a note about the Ruin Guards and has Zandik's signature, they may have wanted to steal credit of his research.
-Regarding who framed Dottore, u/Sandflow_23 commented an excellent theory
lt seems Zandik didn't care much about Sohreh's death since he proceeded to ask the team to take back the Ruinguard while she was bleeding but the Eleazar hospital notes come after this incident. Was this his first instance of curing people?
Did being unable to save someone influence him in some way? It may just be coincidental but it's worth taking note. I'm trying to look at all possibilities.
People usually see Sohreh's note as "she learned Dottore's secret so he murdered her" But something I haven't seen discussed is how there is also a chance he trusted her and decided to open up to people more. Previously he said studying Ruinguards could get him kicked out but after the following note by Sohreh, he decided to try to convince his team to take back the ruin guard:
"...Zandik was attracted by the ancient machines left behind by some civilization here...
We had a great time and decided to go on a picnic tonight..."
Finally, to play Devil's Advocate: it seems he also had another secret mission that was never explained.
"...It's a shame that documents regarding its (the giant golem's) energy supply systems have been lost, and I have far too important a mission to accomplish to afford to start from scratch. If not..."
He could have killed her because she learned that secret but it's still weird that he'd go and choke her with people focused on him speaking about Ruinguard studies.
-- Arle SQ --
Lyney said "he proposed the direction of the research " for the bottled flames. That he wants to give people "a chance to start over" was also hinted in Time of Insight artifact. I won't be surprised if it turns out most of the injured kids he took from Crucabena are actually fine. The Eremites, which he didn't want his subordinates to kidnap, were also healthy, so this is another instance of him seeking to work with weak people to give them power. I'm NOT denying there's a chance he wants to use it for some other plan like burning the tree like other Redditors have proposed
Finally, there remains the question of which Dottore would be playable. I predict the original or Omega. (Knocking off the angelic new segment theory)
We don't know if the original is alive, since Raiden destroyed her physical body (and the segments were based on Scaramouche) he could be dead BUT giving a kill switch to Omega may have a deeper meaning. Like those fragments of his mind from dead segments will re-materialize in an empty segment or object his soul is bound to or go back to Omega and change his personality, the former sounds like FullMetal Alchemist but a Remuria quest confirms this is a thing in Genshin.
Finally done, sorry if this is ridiculously long but I wanted to provide quotes to sustain the arguments, especially since some people hate him so much based on mostly misinformation.

2024.05.21 20:29 ligeston Blade’s adoration for Baiheng

Blade’s adoration for Baiheng
I don’t know why I haven’t ever seen this discussed, but Blade’s former love for Baiheng is so sweet and tragic… now that it’s been confirmed she was the “beloved” turned into the monstrosity, it really makes me feel for how they turned out.
In the relic lore, it emphasizes how torn he was after her death, agreeing to conspire with Dan Feng to revive her, and out of the HCQ he made weapons for, she was the only one he made an actual non-weapon “gift” for—her jade flask, one he was likely too shy to gift.
Now, seeing as how Baiheng met Blade when he was young, I don’t think she necessarily reciprocated his adoration. However, it’s worth noting how Jingliu finally felt at peace after dropping the jade flask her made for her w the starskiff for Baiheng, emphasizing how she likely loved him too (could’ve been wholly platonic on her end, we do not have any indicators of her caring for Blade more than that). In Japanese, Blade’s character description says, “愛する者を葬ったのも、貴様だ”—(“the one who buried the loved one was also you”). They specifically use “愛する者” (aisuru mono). Now, this isn’t a word you throw around lightly; the kanji “愛” (ai) is VERY strong. To make a point, in Japanese, couples normally say “好き and 大好き” (suki and daisuki). The former, ai, would only be used in, say, poems, romance novels/media, a declaration of love during say, a proposal or deathbed. They could’ve simply used a word for “important person” or something similar, but it’s clear Baiheng was so very near and dear to Blade.
I always thought what he says about Kafka (“maybe someone left her before they could hear all she had to say”) felt very odd and out of place. But upon reassessing, I believe he’s projecting. I think Baiheng passed before he could properly convey his feelings and gratitude to her (and the fact he visited Bailu, too…)
Poor HCQ :(

WHAT DID BUDDHA TRANSMIT?
There could hardly be a more definitive or significant question.

What did we end up talking about?

There wasn't much in the way of translation problems. The last line of the poem was mistranslated (over translated?) by several people. The significance of the case was the main discussion point.
There is also probably a glitch where people talk over each other... it doesn't last.

CHATGPT TRANS:

CASE: Kashyapa and Ananda Ananda asked Kashyapa, "Apart from the robe of golden brocade that the World-Honored One transmitted, what else was passed on?" Kashyapa called out, "Ananda!" Ananda responded, "Yes?" Kashyapa said, "Knock down the flagpole in front of the gate."

Wumen's Instructional comments:

If you can turn the phrase around here, you will see that the assembly on Vulture Peak has not yet dispersed. If not, even the Buddha of Vipaśyin would have to ponder it, yet still not grasp its profundity.

Wumen's Instructional Verse:

How does the question compare to the answer?
How many people are blinded by this?
The elder calls, the younger responds, revealing the family's disgrace,
Beyond yin and yang, there is another spring.

Explaining Yin/Yang symbol's meaning:

The Yin-Yang symbol is tightly connected with the annual cycle of the earth around the sun, and the four seasons resulting from it. To investigate this cycle, the ancient Chinese used a pole that they put up orthogonally to the ground, as shown in Figure 4. With this setup, the ancient Chinese were able to record precisely the positions of the sun’s shadow and divide the year into different sections. They found the length of a year to be about 365.25 days. Furthermore, they divided the circle of the year into segments, including the vernal equinox, autumnal equinox, summer solstice, and winter solstice.
In addition, they used concentric circles around the pole, helping them to record the length of the sun’s shadow every day. As a result, they measured the shortest shadow during the summer solstice, and measured the longest shadow during the winter solstice.** After connecting the measured points and dimming the part that reaches from summer solstice to winter solstice (Yin), they arrived at a chart like the one in Figure 5** [yin/yang symbol].

If u wanna podcast?

Add a comment if there is a post you want somebody to get interviewed about, or you agree to be interviewed. We are now using libsyn, so you don't even have to show your face. You just get a link to an audio call.
I was thinking about the fact that it seems pretty reasonable to call somebody up and talk on the phone about something you talk about on reddit everyday... but some people are nervous about this. Why? It's a phone call. Is it the public nature of the phone call? In a coffee shop it's public too... but it's not scrutinized.
Being wrong... is that the big worry? We all have trouble saying Chinese words, remembering Chinese names, and explaining Zen concepts that the Chinese themselves were uncomfortable with. What's the standard for public conversations when it comes to knowledge? Does that standard mean less people want to talk publicly?

2024.05.21 19:54 AlienSuper_Saiyan Sukuna May Have A Secret Ace Up His Sleeve

I have argued multiple times now that Sukuna and Yuji’s link has not been severed* yet, and that Gege wants the audience to be thinking of this lasting connection and its meanings while all of the action in Shinjuku occurs. Beyond the chained metaphor of the enchain vow and the now mirrored appearances between the two, Gege has now included more concrete jujutsu mechanics that tie Yuji and Sukuna together even more.

Todo may just be unnecessarily cautious here, but I argue that Gege’s leaving more hints that back up Kenjaku’s own words:
Despite no longer inhabiting the same body, Kenjaku knew that Sukuna and Yuji's connection would remain strong. An even better detail? Todo could not use Boogie Woogie on Yuji because Yuji was positioned in the epicenter, the eye, of Sukuna’s own storm. I still believe that Yuji’s meant to be a tragic character, but there’s a couple ways for him to be saved still. Though, this is just an analysis on the play of words, take it with a grain of salt.
Todo suggests that Yuji and Sukuna may share a somewhat subconscious connection and may be able to even share thoughts between one another.
I have argued that Sukuna may have broken his brain in 260 and could be succumbing to death soon. How would Sukuna survive? How would Gege wrap up Megumi's story? Even more, how might Nobara still have a chance to return and meaningfully contribute to the fight?
Gege has been leaving breadcrumbs in the story to suggest Sukuna and Yuji's dependence on one another for their shared survival. Sukuna needed Yuji as a useful vessel to finally return to being a person and not only a cursed object. Anyone before Yuji that ingested one of his fingers simply died or went insane. Sukuna inhabiting Yuji's body now allows Yuji to learn difficult skills because it's been practically trained by Sukuna. In short, the two of them have positively impacted the other's survival, and I think Gege will continue this theme of codependence until the end.*
Therefore, I argue that the enchain metaphor, the mirrored appearances, and Todo's theory that Sukuna and Yuji remain connected, act as Gege preparing a logical precedence for when Sukuna inhabits Yuji's body again. I don't mean to simply argue about a narrative payoff for Yuji and Sukuna's connections, but to additionally say that Gege's done this to justify when Sukuna takes Yuji over again. Sukuna had to wait for Megumi's spirit to be crushed when he forcibly took over his body. Due to their established connections, especially through jujutsu, Sukuna should have an easier time fully possessing Yuji than he did Megumi.
I argue that Sukuna will force his way into Yuji's body somehow and will likely take Yuji hostage. Due to Yuji being so like Sukuna already, especially post-awakening, Yuji will not be able to fight back like before. Perhaps Megumi and Nobara work together to free Yuji? By allowing Sukuns an escape route through Yuji, Gege could expand the story and give time for both Megumi and Nobara to contribute to the fight. Even more, the proposed scenario allows Megumi and Nobara to make up for failing to save Yuji when Sukuna first took him hostage.
Will Sukuna kill Yuji and enforce a binding vow again? Will he simply use Yuji's body to continue to fight off jjh forces? Will he force Yuji to eat a finger? Will he somehow take over Yuji's mind? Gege has left himself with a range of possibilities, but a small enough pool to theorize likely endings.

Sukuna and Yuji's Mirrored Appearances

Earlier in Shinjuku before Yuji's awakening, before their familial ties had been revealed by Sukuna.
Note that their eyes did not always have the same spiraling pupils.
Yuji's black flash awakened his latent abilities and Shrine, but Sukuna may use that against him. Yuji's only become closer to Sukuna now.

Notes:
  • My argument that the enchain vow acts as a metaphor for the lasting connection between Yuji and Sukuna. I also theorize that Yuji will have to pay a price for the enchain vow in order to break the "chain or curses."
  • The paragraph about codependence simply explores the positive effects of Yuji and Sukuna cohabiting a body as a narrative tool by Gege. As far as has been revealed, Megumi's the only other mortal beside Yuji that's ever survived eating one of Sukuna's fingers.

2024.05.21 19:32 Ok_Secret1023 Am I the bad one here?

So i am in third semester now (after the exams), in first semester there was a team of 5 for hackathon in which apart from me there were two M and two F. I was a pretty much goal oriented person so much to the point I barely left my laptop while I was coding and when I wasn't coding I would either be at my shop or college, this was my life for whole 1st semester. Fast forward to december, we gave our sem ends, I was free so I thought I'd use them holidays productively, to my sheer luck my mother spilled coffee on my laptop and it took more than a fkin month to get it back. In between this month I had nothing to do so I started to talk to one of those F in my team. Thing went on pretty quickly, I developed feelings, we were spending literally all days chatting away, telling each other everything we could. Fast forward to 12th Feb i proposed to her and she accepted it. We both were happy to each other. My friends got to know about this progression and they started brain washing or don't know what u call it but they started kind of forcing me to be physical with her. Two to three weeks went by and one day when we were talkin in night like usual she got horny and she said and as I quote "talk dirty to me". So I did sir. Next day we had a free lecture. We went to an empty class and i just slept on her laps and sucked her B, the next day she would behave distant, don't know whether its her conscience or what but the whole week she was like this, then I calmed her down maybe by taking her to eat out or maybe by reciting a poem for her. The same events happened three more times and i, my fuckin brain got no clues what's going on. One day she got so distant from me that she started straight out ignoring me, I was so "depressed" that even my 3 yr younger sister noticed it and confronted it to her directly. She said she needs time to heal but not to me to my sister. I said if you need time that's OK I'll wait for you even if it takes my whole life. Then one day I wanted some answers regarding the material or something I don't even remember it correctly now, things went down the rabbit hole and it was bad, believe me she really said I was nothing more than a nuisance. This was just all so overwhelming and heartbreaking, I didn't want to lose her. Then i planned the most romantic thing of my life. I booked out a cafe, called her friends to invite her, they were three (including her) and i was alone. By the sheer determination of not loosing her I proposed to her again, she accepted and we were happy. After a week in one of my finals she says "mere papa ko pata chala gaya, unhone chat padh li". At this point I don't know what but I didn't care about whether she stayed with me or not cuz I thought what more I could do with current me, (I had literally spent all my savings, I wanted to upgrade my laptop so bad). I asked her "what now, you want to leave me? " she replied "what would you do if you were in my shoes?". I got up and left the place. I don't even feel sad about we broke up anymore like I did the first time she acted that way. Are these feelings wrong? Should I ask her for all the money I spent on her? What do i do now? She will surely leave me but I don't feel a thing.
