2024.05.21 22:57 SedrickValistar Need help understanding the Reserves

Im interested in joining the USNR and after researching I feel as if the reserves will best fit my future plans. I want to go back to school for nursing while being in the reserves and have a couple questions regarding expectations of what the USNR can offer. For context im 23M and have no dependents.
  1. I plan on becoming a Corpsman… after I’m done with bootcamp/ A-school, will I qualify for the VA loan? I believe I need to be on active duty orders for at least 180 days. Does schooling and bootcamp count towards that?
  2. How easy is it to receive TA when in the reserves? I plan on going to a local CC near me(full time)and according to the VA website the TA will cover my tuition. Is there anything I should know about TA that may cause a problem with my plan about going back to school?
  3. I’m expecting to be mobilized a couple times during my contract. Is that realistic??
I’m not apposed to going active duty. I just feel as if the USNR will set me up better for where I want to be in the next 5 years. Plus… I wanna go in as a Corpsman and I know the contracts are 5 years. My thought process is why not join the USNR for 6 years and be able to go back to school and earn a degree. Any insight would be helpful and please feel free to poke holes in “my plans” thank you!!

2024.05.21 22:56 Opening-Echidna222 Type me based on my life for past few years

2019: graduated from University with a gold medal, and i have an idea what I want to be in future, where I want to earn money and enjoy as many things as possible and live life in luxury so I started upskilling myself and applied to many jobs and attended job fairs but i failed in passing exams in every job and I never succeeded in any interview , I took each and every experience and started improving myself but i failed again and again. No matter how much I try there is so huge competition that I'm failing in every job openings . I am getting rejected by every company.
2020: COVID happened , no job openings and no job fairs to attend and stayed at home and became a shut in for 6 months all while watching animes, movies with whatever money I earned from part time jobs, friends and family. I thought I want to live like that forever (stupid me). In the later years i joined masters course from online as my father pressurized me by saying "do it , u r jobless, u r worthless scum, u are just a shut in who won't do anything" , I said "if I join masters in the institute u r recommending then this plan of urs will definitely fail as u already know it well, u don't have enough guts to send to go far away place where the institute is located if in case COVID reduces" he said "when COVID reduces, just drop out of masters" I said "huh? Then y should I join then?" He said "because I said so, it's for ur good" i said "dad, wait for few months I will find worthwhile job" he said "u will be worthless if u neglect ur career further" . And everyone around me pressured me to join masters course and I joined the course because of pressures and it was completely online at the time , and I worked tirelessly to pass each semester.
2021: continuing masters, i put so much effort into my exams only to barely pass. Whereas , my classmates scored straight As . I was suprised , i was putting so much effort and why I couldn't be as good as them but I was chill cause I'm passing. I finally got assigned a project. I completed the project early even before final semester and I even published a research paper in a journal
2022: in final semester when the COVID decreased the institute which I enrolled masters insisted us to come. The institute was pretty far away from my place. And my dad never allowed me to go there and he never wanted me to lose the masters , I thought of making deal with professor as i already completed the project and even my research paper was published in journal and my professor said " even if u complete the project and passed in every exam I won't pass u in the project unless u come " I said " I can't come due to family issues" my professor "then u r unworthy to study " my dad raised a complaint and after hearing the complaint the whole institute accused me of defaming the institute honor and blackmailed me they will get cops involved in this and ruin my future and to solve this they demanded me to come there and do what they say. I said to them "whatever it is , i won't come there" and i am dropping out of the institute and i do t need any master's . I dropped out of the college and I said this to my dad he became angry and i blamed him this was his mistake and told him "2 years ago I told u this will happen u and none listened to me now see there is 3 years gap in my career and no one will recruit me and 2 years ago when I was clean i failed everything now I have this remark of dropout and now none will recruit me, u do realise how fcked up competition really is in our country , if u r not competent u will be crushed" . A few months passed and i decided to leave the town and family. I found a minimum wage job out of the town and lived with one of my cousins, where I have to do maintenance of transformers and other electrical equipment. There i worked for 4 months and left it because my boss was too bossy and I don't want to work under him. I started working as another minum wage job and left it too because I can't stand bossy people there and also i slapped my boss and i finally thought my own stupidity, professors arrogance and power and my father arrogance and power are the reasons for this, and i decided to go in teaching field. So, i planned how to get into it, so first I started working as a tutor. I joined masters course again at a different institute with scholarship facility as I was a gold medalist from University during my undergraduation. I continued tutoring as a part time to earn money and working on masters in other hand
2023: I worked on my masters and passed through all semesters with above 4 GPA and worked on my project. The students that i tutored as a part time stood as strong as support to me. Their happiness after I teach them filled me with confidence that I can do many good things in life and I want to help as many students as possible. Though I never admitted this to them because as a teacher I can't show weakness before and I need to be strong. Also, my cousin who provided me shelter in times of need made me to be strong and not lose hope on myself
2024: i completed my masters last march and I immediately joined as professor and this professor job is good that none bosses me around again and i am teaching students who are very interested in my lectures, as i already has experience in teaching. I kinda love this job , i don't live with minimum wage anymore and I am helping people with their studies and most importantly none bothers me as i myself earned quite a name regarding skills all thanks to the technical skills and subjects i learned back in 2019. My hardwork of that time not wasted , instead the skills that i developed at the time are helping other people instead. Currently,i am planning on doing PhD maybe I will do it next year or some time later but presently I need to stabilize myself financially .
That's it guys, I'm curious what u think my type is based on this
Also, I agree , I made many stupid decisions in my life don't be harsh on me please...

2024.05.21 22:54 imanyonymousman How Ayankoji Controls His Emotions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AlGDK1LCxM
This is the video version. What do you guys think about it. Looking for criticisms or recommendations.
Five Ways to Have Superior Emotional Control with Body Language like Ayanokoji:
Ayanokoji Kiyotaka, the main character from the anime show "Classroom of the Elite," is known for his calm and composed body language, which shows confidence and control.
Learning to have a calm body language like him is a helpful skill for dealing with social situations easily. At the elite Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, where everyone is expected to be excellent, he stands out because he stays calm even when things are chaotic around him.
While not everyone may naturally be as calm as him, anyone can learn to use body language to show confidence and composure in any situation.
With practice and determination, you can uncover the secrets to mastering calm body language, just like Ayanokoji.
Before we get into the actionable steps let's first discuss why calm body language is so important.
Body language is crucial for how we interact with others. It can affect how people see us and even how we feel about ourselves.
Did you know that a huge part of how people see you when you're with them in person is based on your body language, even before you start talking?
Yes, that's true before you even say a word, people form an idea about you just by watching you for a few seconds. Whether it's how you walk into a room or sit down, those initial moments matter.
Body language is something everyone can understand, and it's incredibly important. It can have a big impact on your life outcomes.
This video aims to uncover how Ayanokoji maintains his calm body language while staying composed, providing practical advice for those who want to be as calm as him.
So, let's get started!
1. Posture
One of the most noticeable things about Ayanokoji's body language is his upright posture. He always stands tall, with his shoulders back and his chest out. This posture makes him look very calm and confident.
Do you know that posture is a crucial aspect of body language that goes beyond just the physical positioning of the body. It is an active process that involves the coordinated effort of our muscles, joints, perceptions, emotions, and the environment we are in.
Even seemingly static postures, like sitting or standing, are constantly undergoing small adjustments and movements as our body adapts to maintain stability and balance.
This dynamic nature of posture highlights its importance in conveying our internal state and projecting a certain image to others
Maintaining good posture like Ayanokoji can really help you appear more composed and self-assured as well. When you stand up straight, with your back straight and your shoulders relaxed, you give off an air of confidence and control.
When you're nervous, you might hunch your shoulders and slouch a bit. This kind of body language can make you seem anxious.
But standing tall, like Ayanokoji, shows everyone that you are calm and in control. It's a simple way to show that you are composed and confident.
So, the next time you catch yourself slouching or feeling unsure, remember Ayanokoji's upright posture and straighten up.
Embrace the power of your body language to not only convey confidence to others but also to cultivate a stronger sense of self-assurance within yourself.
Also one tip that I want to share with you is that you can improve your posture by using reminders. For instance, place a sticky note on your computer or set an alarm on your phone to prompt you to sit or stand up straight every hour.
2. Eye Contact
Moving on to another one which is eye contact. Ayanokoji is known for his unwavering and self-assured eye contact. He never shies away from making direct eye contact with others, which helps him appear calm and collected.
Maintaining appropriate eye contact is an important aspect of engaging communication. When you make eye contact with someone, it's like you're conveying, "I'm here, I'm attentive, and I'm ready to connect."
Do you know? Avoiding eye contact can give off an impression of nervousness and disinterest. Let me tell you what is science behind this.
Our brains interpret eye contact as a signal of focus and confidence. Maintaining genuine eye contact demonstrates your full involvement in the conversation, projecting a relaxed and confident presence.
Simply locking eyes with the person you're talking to immediately conveys a feeling of calmness.
But here's some advice, when you're in a conversation, it's good to keep eye contact without staring too intensely. Instead, find a balance between looking at the person and occasionally looking away to make them feel comfortable.
3. Slow and Controlled Gestures
So, the next noticeable characteristic of Ayanokoji's calm body language is his slow and controlled movements. He doesn't rush or make sudden movements, which helps him seem calm and composed.
By being mindful of how you move and taking your time, you can show others that you are in control and confident. Instead of moving too quickly, aim for smooth and deliberate motions.
Whether you're walking or talking, focus on moving calmly and confidently. It might feel strange at first, but with practice, you can make this kind of movement a habit.
Ayanokoji uses his hands to highlight what he's saying, making it easier for people to understand.
This helps him speak naturally and break up his points in a way that feels smooth and easy to follow. When you aim to improve your communication skills, consider incorporating subtle movements and purposeful hand gestures like Ayanokoji.
This can help you express yourself more clearly and connect with others effectively. Remember, the way you move and gesture can greatly impact how your message is received.
Practice using gentle movements and meaningful hand gestures to enhance your communication style and create a more engaging and understandable dialogue with those around you.
By observing and imitating Ayanokoji's controlled gestures, you can refine your nonverbal communication skills and become more proficient at conveying your thoughts and ideas with confidence and clarity.
So, the next time you're in a conversation with someone, pay attention to your gestures and try to use them purposefully to enhance your message.
4. Facial Expressions
Moving on, another thing that makes Ayanokoji's body language stand out is his facial expression. He usually has a neutral, emotionless look on his face. This helps him appear very calm and in control.
To cultivate this type of expression, it's essential to practice mindfulness. Become aware of your facial expressions and how they reflect your emotions.
Let me tell you one simple mindfulness technique to help you get calm. Take quick breaks during your day to stop and breathe mindfully. Notice how you feel physically and emotionally.
This simple check-in can help you be aware of your emotions and adjust your facial expressions and body language to appear calm and in control, like Ayanokoji.
Do you know what science says about facial expressions? Let me tell you:
Facial expressions are very important for how we communicate with each other.
What's interesting about how we show our feelings is that some of these expressions, like being angry, scared, or happy, seem to be built into our bodies. This means that people from all around the world, from different cultures, show these emotions in the same way.
And when you notice yourself making certain expressions, like frowning or looking worried, try to relax your face and go back to a neutral look. Practice keeping a neutral expression, even when you're feeling stressed or anxious.
Over time, maintaining a calm, emotionless facial expression will become more natural for you. It may feel strange at first, but sticking with it will help you develop Ayanokoji's signature composure.
So, in addition to working on your posture and movements, pay close attention to your facial expressions. Try to have the same neutral, calm expression as Ayanokoji. If you can do that, you'll be well on your way to having his trademark relaxed and in-control attitude.
5. Breathing
Last but not the least is breathing. The most important element of AyanoKoji's body language is his breathing technique. He consistently practices slow and deep breathing, aiding him in staying composed in various situations.
When you feel stressed or anxious, follow his lead by taking deep breaths and slowing down your breathing.
This simple practice can help calm your mind and body, allowing you to present a more composed image to others.
Do you know? Deep breathing is a powerful tool that can help you manage your emotions and reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. By focusing on your breath, you can create a sense of inner peace and control, even in challenging situations.
By practicing slow, deep breathing like Ayanokoji, you can cultivate a sense of calm and connectedness that will not only benefit your own mental state but also positively influence how others perceive you.
Let me share a deep breathing technique you can use every day to stay calm.
To start, make sure you're seated comfortably in a chair or lying down on a bed. Then, follow these steps:
Take a slow breath in for 4 seconds, trying to use your nose if possible.
Hold your breath for 2 seconds.
Now, release your breath slowly for 6 seconds, again, if possible through your nose. Pause briefly before taking another breath in.
Repeat this process regularly to make it a habit. Deep breathing has become a regular part of my daily routine, helping me face challenges more effectively. I encourage you to give it a try and see how it can benefit you too.
By incorporating deep breathing into your daily routine, you can experience greater calmness, clarity, and resilience in the face of stress and adversity.

So, take a moment each day to practice this simple yet powerful technique and enjoy the positive impact it has on your overall well-being.
So, this is it, adopting the calm body language of Ayanokoji Kiyotaka means more than just appearing composed. It shows discipline, confidence, and control. By developing these qualities, you can skillfully navigate social situations and achieve your goals smoothly.
Just as he stands out in the chaos of Koudo Ikusei Senior High School, mastering calm body language can help you stand out in any environment. It can help you build connections and show your competence.
So, don't hesitate to adopt the Ayanokoji mindset and start your journey of self-improvement. Begin today by uncovering your hidden talents and refining your presence. Try to stand up straight, make eye contact while talking, and move slowly.
This can help you feel more confident and calm, like Ayanokoji. Practice these things and you will feel more comfortable in different situations.
Are you ready to embrace the power of calm body language and unlock your full potential?

2024.05.21 22:52 CuriousOutLoud Common questions about Non-offending Minor Attracted People (NoMAPs)

There is a severe lack of understanding about this community, including among mental health providers and social workers. Stigma, bias, and misconceptions prevent those who are attracted to minors (but do not offend) from seeking help they may need.
CSA = child sexual abuse
NoMAPs = non-offending, minor attracted people: those who are attracted to children but are committed to not causing harm against them
Many non-offending MAPs do not seek professional support, or may withdraw from support, due to the following reasons:
Those of us in the social work and mental health fields can address common misconceptions about this group, as a way to encourage MAPs to get help when they need it. Greater education and understanding about MAPs increases their well-being while also contributing to the prevention of CSA.
Common questions
Are you saying child sexual abuse is acceptable?
Absolutely not. Causing harm to children in the form of in-person/online sexual contact; CSAM (sometimes referred to as child pornography); grooming; or any other inappropriate behavior is not and will never be acceptable.
Many people who are attracted to minors are vehemently against these forms of harm as well, and do not support ideas such as lowering the age of consent. There are entire communities of minor attracted people who are committed to not harming children.
Isn’t using the term ‘MAPs’ normalizing pedophilia?
Only a minority of the population experiences a primary attraction to children. In this sense, pedophilia and other forms of minor attraction are not “normal”, in the same way that LBGTQ identities are not “normal” by proportion to the general population.
When people refer to normalizing something, they are usually talking about removing the stigma behind it, or acknowledging that it is acceptable.
Having an unchosen, unchangeable attraction to children is not inherently wrong, immoral, predatory, or pathological. It becomes so only when harm is involved. Attraction itself is not a behavior.
Shouldn’t we be protecting children from MAPs?
We should absolutely protect children from abusers, groomers, and predators. These terms are not synonymous with being minor attracted. In fact, research shows that the majority of child sexual abuse cases are carried out by people who do not meet the criteria for pedophilia (see “Sources” section below for reference).
When somebody feels they are at risk for harming a child, they should be able to seek immediate and effective help. Some NoMAPs need temporary or ongoing support in remaining resilient against offending, but this does not represent all or even the majority of NoMAPs. Many in this community have no intention of ever harming a child, and they are not at risk for doing so.
It is also important to note that many MAPs are still children themselves. MAPs tend to become aware of their attractions around the time of puberty or early adolescence. Children who are MAPs deserve the same degree of safety and well-being that other children do.
Why is the term ‘MAP’ even used?
This term has become more widely used for two main reasons:
  1. It emphasizes attraction over action. The word ‘pedophile’ has become so conflated with ‘offender’ in every sector of our society, that most people assume a behavioral component when they hear the word. ‘Minor attracted person’, on the other hand, emphasizes that we are talking about those with an attraction, which includes both those who do and those who do not act on it.
Because there are MAPs who are also offenders, the term ‘Non-offending Minor Attracted Person’ (NoMAP) is useful when we are talking specifically about those who have an attraction but do not act on it.
  1. ‘MAP’ is also a more accurate, all-encompassing way to refer to the community as a whole. This includes people with infantophilia, pedophilia, and (ep)hebephilia. It would not make sense, for example, to call someone who is primarily attracted to 15-18 year olds a pedophile.
However, many people do not self-identify with the term ‘MAP’. Some identify as pedophiles, hebephiles, boy lovers, girl lovers, or other terms. Some may use multiple terms to describe themselves. What’s important is that we should honor how each individual person self-identifies their attraction, and not impose a label on them.
Alternatives have also been suggested by those who conduct research with this community, such as ‘child attracted person’ as opposed to ‘minor attracted person’. I use ‘MAP’ here because it is the most widely accepted way to refer to the community as a whole.
What would someone who harms a child be called?
Depending on the context, people who harm children could be called many things—offender, abuser, predator, or groomer, to name a few examples.
Research shows that the majority of child sexual abuse cases are carried out by people who do not meet the criteria for pedophilia. (See “Sources” section below to learn why someone who’s not primarily attracted to children would sexually abuse a child.)
Is pedophilia a mental illness/diagnosis?
It depends. Some MAPs are committed to not offending, are not at risk for offending, and have come to terms with their attraction. These individuals have no reason to be pathologized.
Many others are not at risk for offending, yet they desire professional help for mental health conditions (like depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation) that result from the hatred they receive in our society. These individuals also have no reason to be pathologized, as their mental health conditions result from stigma rather than from the attraction itself.
Some MAPs desire professional help in dealing with the difficult emotions resulting from not being able to have a fulfilling sexual or romantic connection, particularly those who are exclusively attracted to children. (Many MAPs are attracted to both children and adults, and may be in relationships with adults.)
There are also MAPs who desire professional help in remaining resilient against offending. In these cases, and in cases where MAPs do harm children, pedophilia would be considered pathological since there is significant distress and/or harm involved.
Is pedophilia a sexual orientation?
The available research points to pedophilia and other forms of minor attraction being an age-based sexual orientation, in that the attraction is unchosen, typically arises during the time of puberty or early adolescence, and remains fairly constant throughout one’s life.
Are you suggesting that MAPs are part of the LGBTQ+ community?
Age-based orientations are by nature different from gender-based orientations, in that there is no safe or ethical way for an adult to engage sexually or romantically with a child. The experience of MAPs is also vastly different from that of LGBTQ individuals in several ways.
While there are some parallels that can be drawn between studies on stigma among LGBTQ individuals and the experience of stigma among MAPs, these are two separate communities.
Can someone’s attraction to children be changed?
Empirical data, based on qualitative and quantitative studies, points to the fact that pedophilia and other forms of minor attraction cannot be changed or "cured". (See “Sources” section below for reference.)
How many MAPs are there in the world?
Across various studies, the average incidence of minor attraction, meaning those who are primarily attracted to minors, comes out to about 5% of the adult population worldwide. This number is likely an undercount for the following reasons:
Why should I care about any of this?
Reducing stigma against NoMAPs contributes to a safer society for all, based around empathy and evidence. Many people do not feel safe disclosing their attraction for fear of being unjustly reported, misunderstood, or physically harmed.
Unfortunately, stories of MAPs being rejected by family members, forced out of educational programs, reported to the police, and made to feel like a monster– even in the absence of any harm to a child— are all too common. This prevents many MAPs from seeking or continuing to receive support, which in turn can lead to:
The misconceptions and harmful attitudes that we have toward non-offending MAPs directly interfere with them receiving the support they may need, decreasing MAPs’ well-being and putting children at greater risk. This includes children who are MAPs themselves.
Where can I learn more?
There are many resources available to learn about MAPs. These include:
If you are minor attracted yourself, you can check out any of the above, plus:

2024.05.21 22:49 kno_bro Bummed: a good interview, a few delays, and then radio silence

Hey friends, I'm just looking for a little insight from a hiring manager and maybe a little solace from folks who have experienced something similar to my situation.
In February, a former colleague asked me if I would be interested in applying for a role on a new project working for my former company. This person is now leading Product, and the company has since been bought out; as such, it's a lot bigger, with more resources. Things have changed since I left, though I've heard mixed reviews from colleagues who are still there.
In March, I went through interviews with the person I know and a PO who would lead the project, and everything went great. They didn't have many questions, and expressed such since they knew me and my work. They even stated, "This is exactly what we would expect from a candidate in this role [Lead Prod. Designer]."
A few days later, I spoke to a recruiter, and everything sounded great...except the offer was very low.
Like many, I am actively and hurriedly looking for a job as I was laid off last year. I was willing to accept a cut, understanding there could and would be room for me to grow and have mentorship. So, I requested to speak to the person I know once more... to verify that I want this to be a growth opportunity for me and that I will have solid mentorship - unlike before with a different manager when I worked there; it's worth noting, this person was very aware of management problems in the past, and several people left because of it. We spoke, and that conversation also went well, albeit more candidly, since it was just the two of us. This person said they would follow up with recruitment to let them know we spoke, and they'd be in touch.
I still hadn't heard anything two weeks later (around the first week of May at this point), so I contacted the recruiter to say, "Hey! I'm super excited about this opportunity. I had a great time talking to [the person I know]—let me know if you have any questions or need anything else from me...I think I'd be a great fit because of xyz reason, etc." as you do when you follow up.
The recruiter responded a day later, letting me know that I for sure caught the attention of the person I know and the other interviewer and they were a bit delayed in the process because of work/scheduling/etc; that they would contact me once they received 'any' word to let me know, and they would be in touch. I responded saying "Great, thanks, look forward to hearing from you..." and I've heard nothing since.
I'm bummed. Almost 3 months after the initial conversation, I cannot help but feel like they found better candidates and aren't following up.
But I suppose it could also be taking a long time; the project and teams they're hiring for are quite large (about ~15-20 members on Design alone)...in which case, I'm hoping to hear soon.
What does this sound like to folks in this sub who have been hired before? Has anyone else gone through something similar? How did you handle it?
In the meantime, I'm looking and applying elsewhere, so hopefully, something clicks soon...but if I'm honest, it's not looking great. Fingers crossed!
Cheers!

2024.05.21 22:49 1HappySquid Sold car - 6 years later towing company coming for fees (Oregon)

I sold a car 6 years ago and didn’t submit a notification to dmv, rarely do. But I received a letter yesterday that a towing company has given me 15 days (letter dated 8 days prior even though the company is only 2.5 hour drive away) to reclaim the vehicle that is registered in my name or it will be foreclosed on. Also states I am liable for the fees accumulated at the company for their services. The bottom states that the vehicle will be sold to reclaim any fees and I will be responsible for the remaining balance, and collections will be involved, if needed.
I have confirmed with the dmv that I am the registered owner and they cannot do anything to assist as it’s a civil matter. I called the towing company and the person I discussed the car with was quite “sketchy” sounding. They said it was picked up from a shop and has a 454 (engine I sold it with) and had a hole in the hood. First I asked if they could send a photo to be in an attempt to confirm it’s the same car I sold and they declined. They when I mentioned I would need to know where to come with a trailer and money to pay the fees and collect the car, they said it was “full of water” and “probably sat outside since I sold it” and the bill is like $3k so doubt it would be worth it for me.
I asked where the vehicle was located (asking if the address from the letter was correct) so I could bring a trailer and view it to confirm it’s the right vehicle and see a list of the fees to pay. This was met with “they have many locations” Then I asked if I was speaking to the owner and he said no and said he would have someone call me back later, but I’m on a time frame to not be stuck with fees and no car here, so I’m trying to find out:

2024.05.21 22:49 FarAd9325 Still waiting…

E-filed through TurboTax and accepted 2/13. Received letter that I re-qualified for my EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) from IRS on 3/4. Spoke with IRS agent at the end of April and they said they had to put in a referral and it would be “9 additional weeks”. Transcripts are still blank on irs.gov, this is ridiculous. It is 5/21 and I have received no additional updates.

2024.05.21 22:48 LUCAISHI Help me make Syndra interesting... and evil!

Hey everyone, I know a lot of people toss away Syndra all together in this module, but I feel she has potential.
She is a somewhat-powerful nobody who knows more than most people in Chult and has direct access to a Prince. Please feel free to read what I currently come up with and to let me know your thoughts. (There are story-spoilers) Are there other NPCs you would link with her? And can you suggest other clues...to sprinkle around to support this storyline?
Thanks!
Syndra's Background: Syndra was only able to get in contact with Wakanga through her connections in the Harpers. She has never visited Chult, but she has lived quite a few adventures and survived multiple expeditions in her prime. She hides it well but she is in fact a powerful spellcaster.
Although her main goal might seem honorable, she has been able to charm and infiltrate her way through factions, secret information and has been able to get closer and closer to her own objective whilst staying out of the spotlight. Syndra seems to be leading such a noble cause but she is secretly aiming for a personal achievement.
Nobody in Chult knows who she is, and the death curse is distracting everyone to even question her intentions. Everyone but one person; Valindra Shawdowmantle, who has been gathering clues through her spies, and has notice strange movement.
Driven by greed and lust for power, and brainwashed by ancient magical tomes, Syndra wants to offer herself to Acererak's cause. She has been recruiting and funding adventurers to discover Omu, and to fuel the Soulmonger with all the deaths of inexperienced groups. Syndra hopes to join the forces of the archlich when the time to release the Atropal will come. Syndra has lost all hopes in saving Chult a long time ago, and has quickly been finding ways to secure her spot in surviving what is inevitably to come.
Valindra's clues are: Syndra has kept hiring more and more adventurers after landing in Port Nyanzaru with the original group. She is definitely in a rush because she's dyeing but she's also just been sending highly unprepared common folk to be slaughtered.
Wakanga has unknowingly been giving Syndra too much power as she has been using his wealth and his Zentharim's guards to gather extra information about the jungle. Wakanga hasn't been feeling this power slipping away, but Syndra has been paying these guards profusely in a slow steady attempt to lure them to her side and cover her back if a coup was to happen.
Valindra is not looking to help the players, but she questions their allegiance to a character like Syndra. She will attempt to reveal Syndra's true colors to the group and hire them instead for the Red Wizards of Thay's cause. Valindra is hard to trust, she is a strange necromancer on a floating island, and whether she is believed or not it won't matter; ideally the players will at the very least ponder on her words and start to develop some distrust towards Syndra.
If confronted, Syndra will lie by proving how wild it is to even trust someone like Valindra, a Red Wizard of Thay has to say; but if pressured further Syndra will step into the shadows with all the info she currently has, and will try to hunt down the players who now know too much.
If this happens quite late in the campaign, Syndra will have already secured a pact with Withers to enhance the Tomb's traps with magic, and she'll fight the characters there.
If the characters trust Syndra despise Valindra's infos, she will follow the characters to the Tomb and receive absolutely no praise or interest for her work from Acererak who'll kill her.

2024.05.21 22:48 virtuesE Grad school potential and career advise

Hi everyone,
I have just graduated from a top 10 university with a Master's degree, and I am now contemplating my future and whether pursuing a PhD is feasible with my background.
Before my Master's I did a Bachelor's in a no-name university with excellent grades while taking graduate-level courses from multiple different subjects. I graduated with my Master's with 2nd class honors (graduated between top 10% and 30% of the class) in a competitive class (the Master's acceptance rate is about 3%). During my Master's I worked as an RA, in which I've been doing very well and enjoyed the work.
I am interested in continuing my studies into a PhD, and to do so I've been offered to do a Pre-Doc at an Ivy-League university. In my field (Finance) about ~2/3 of PhD candidates have either a research master's or Pre-Doc (or both). But as I only have 2nd class honors from my Master's I'm worried about the placement in top PhD programs as the competition is so tough. I also have another offer in a hedge fund, which is extremely lucrative compared to the Pre-Doc, but in this option, I definitely won't have any extra time to keep on studying/researching and I believe that my chances in getting a top program offer go down. I'm generally not worried about getting great rec letters from some of the best in the field, but I still am worried about not being in the 1st class honors (top 10% of class).
I would love to hear 2nd opinions about my future career choices regarding industry and academia.
(Programs I'm interested in are both PhD in Finance and Operations Research)

2024.05.21 22:48 SsniperHunter Student Debt 13k in deferment, should I refinance now or leave it?

Hey all just a quick introduction and background. I am a college student and do not come from a well-off family and had a relative that cosigned my private student loan which is in deferment. It dropped his credit, and now he can not co-sign my next one. The issue I have is I really do not like the loan, and its current rate. I understand it is really bad it is at 14.02% interest. I initially took out 22k but landed a scholarship so my loan was reduced. It is now at 13,600. I did the math it is accueing $160 a month so I was tempted to start making payments on it now. I want advice if it is was worth refinancing or paying it off at its current rate now. If I refinance it loses its deferment, while if I were to keep it how it is I can still make large payments on it, but the interest would make it take slightly longer.
So here is my thought-process, I am working 2 jobs. My only expenses are decently low. My one job is contract work and pays relatively well $30-$40 an hour, but since it is contract I put away 36% for taxes, due to self employment and the state I live in. My other job is part time and pays $15 an hour. I work 16-20 hours a week. My only (debt) which under monthly plans (I put addiotional money into them) that are due, my school supplies which is under affirm about $1,300, summer classes another $1,550, and than rent for the whole summer is only $500. After all of those expenses are gone all of the money I make I keep. I have aid with groceries and my subcriptions. I did some math to figure out how much I would need to work my contract job to make enough to pay off my loan by decemeber at its current rate, I did not include any money I get from my part time job. I would need to work 80 hours a month to put away enough for taxes and pay $1,800 to the loan. I was wondering if I should do that under its current rate, and since it is in deferment if I lose this contract job I don't have a monthly bill. I know I can easily make $270 (the cost I was given when looking at options) a month if I were to refinance it. If I do refinance it, I would still put away the $1,800 to still pay it off asap. I want it gone I dislike the rate, and do not like the fact that I dropped my cosigners credit so much that I cant get my next loan signed again. I am currently looking at other cosigners for my next loan as well. So which path should I take and if I did not include any other relevant information I can do so too.
Thank you, I appreciate any advice!!

2024.05.21 22:48 newrimmmer93 Obviously Sportsquack is not going to be of any help in answering our concerns, as a result, I would recommend reaching out to your state gaming/lottery commission and voicing your concerns with them

Let's be honest here, we are not going to get any sort of response from SportsQuack, OneCricket, or SportsBattle or whatever legal entities that they operated under. The best chance any of us have in getting any response, is probably by contacting your state gambling/lottery commission, this link might be useful to finding your individual states contact information. (https://www.nagra.org/State-and-Province-Gaming-Regulatory-Agencies) Some states (including the state i live in) are less clear about who controls and regulates DFS though, so might be helpful to reach out to all of them.
I have reached out to the state of Georgia yesterday (where SQ was headquartered and operating under the name of OneCricket Fantasy Inc) regarding this. Today I received a response that they had received my message and will respond. Below is a boiler plate template to summarize what WE think transpired. I have italicized the body and also bolded some areas that may need to be changed depending on you and who you are sending it to.
It's possible that we are made whole again and the money from our accounts IS refunded to us. However, the lack of any communication on SQs end is really troubling and quite frankly, I doubt we ever get access to our money.
That being said, we should still be using the resources our states have in place to try and force an answer from them. Some states (llike Georgia where SQ is located ) require licensee's to have Surety bonds to maintain "adequate reserves to account for losses suffered by a licensee and owed to bettors" (albeit, with how this all went down, it would not surprise me if SQ even went through the process of acquiring bonds).
If SQ and it's owner were not following proper laws and we never have access to our funds, us notifying the regulators at least allows them to hopefully stop them from ever pulling something like this again and hopefully provides us with some sort of answer.
In the words of former alcoholic lawyer and part time hockey coach Gordon Bombay, "Ducks Fly Together"
Hello,
I am reaching out to you today regarding a daily fantasy sports app named "Sportsquack" (which may be registered as either SportsQuack, SportsBattle, or OneCricket) that ceased operations on Friday May 17th, leaving many users with thousands of dollars they are unable to access. Users have received almost no communication regarding the status of these funds besides one small message that was posted on the app on the day of closure.
The owner has faced lawsuits in multiple states regarding the company (onecricket fantasy inc) in question, primarily due to the factoring of receivables and his failure to pay the other party. His failure to pay other creditors has led many of us to believe that our funds will never returned to us. The highlighted section below may of the most interest to you as it was very atypical of an app to offer these sort of promotions. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at this email or by phone
I am not a resident of Georgia (as I currently reside in XXX state) but am contacting you as I believe your organization oversees the handling of all gambling in the state of Georgia, including DFS apps that operated similar to Sportsquack/Sportsbattle/OneCricket.
The organization as of Friday, May 17th has ceased operations. As a result of them ceasing operations, many users have funds that are currently unavailable to them locked in the app, with users having no ability to withdraw funds. Some users (including myself) having upwards of $1000 in their accounts that are no longer available to us.
In the time since then, many users have been unable to find any information about what will happen to the funds that the users had in the app. Their support is offline, their twitter has been deactivated, and emails have been bounced back.
In addition, the app, in the weeks leading up to being defunct, ran a series of promotional items where users were offered deposit matches, ranging from 25% to 100%. These promotional items were offered multiple times a week. The app also did not allow users to withdraw money while they had promotional money in the app, leading to many users depositing and being unable to withdraw their funds. Many users feel as if these promotional items were run in bad faith and were only used to keep the users funds tied up in the app and to personally enrich the owners of the application. A search of twitter (https://x.com/search?q=sportsquack&src=typed_query&f=live) using the apps name shows a lot of concern that users were defrauded by the organization.
I am sending this message to see what recourse I have to potentially secure my funds and also to make your organization aware of something that may affect the citizens of Georgia.

2024.05.21 22:45 vmbjay 6 Months of Work Down The Drain

Hey y’all, I just need to rant for a moment and get some feelings off my chest.
Recently, me and a few friends finished up a 9 month horror campaign that was super, super fun. The table had immaculate chemestry and we were able to build a really engaging story all throughout it. I am a writer, and worldbuilding is something that I absolutely adore. So, after the campaign ended, I asked them if they would be interested in doing a longer form, political intrigue campaign. They all were ecstatic, and immediately sent me character ideas.
But, I told them it would take me some time to write. I ended up writing an entire book for them, as it was a custom homebrew setting (I know I’m gonna get some flame for it, but I love writing with my own rules). They all said they wanted the book, and were super excited to receive it. We were just waiting on one person to finish up some work so that we could play, when two of my players ended up having a dispute.
I don’t want to air out all of their dirty laundry without their permission, but the long and short of it is one of them fell for the other, and the other did not reciprocate feelings. They both handled the situation super poorly, and now the book I spent 6 months writing and putting together is practically useless. I don’t really have many friends, let alone friends who want to play DnD, let alone friends who want to read 100 pages to play.
I guess I’m just really upset that people who were so excited to play and so excited to do the longest campaign I’ve ever properly written (Think Star Wars meets Game of Thrones meets Cyberpunk) are just throwing it due to a dispute that should have, and could have, been handled differently.
That’s all. Thank you for reading yall. If there’s any interest, I might see about publishing it in DnDHomebrew.

2024.05.21 22:44 whatsasubreddit Roomate playing music late

My roomate who lives adjacent to my room has an interesting taste in music. He likes to play his music loud. He likes to play it at all times of the day and night. He’s unemployed and doesn’t understand that people have work early in the morning (or that going to bed at a reasonable hour is healthy). He has no concept of how he affects others. I’ve asked him repeatedly on many occasions to please put on headphones or be quieter past midnight on weekdays. He just ignores me. Weekends I don’t mind so much, but I still lose sleep over it. Anyways, this is a sample of his music taste. Enjoy!

2024.05.21 22:44 Fresh_Inspection_107 Car Dealer claiming check got lost on they way to their bank. Can I give the car back?

I applied for a car loan with my bank and got approved. Purchased a new 2024 car from a dealer in Feb with less than 100 miles. Maybe a month and a half later I hadn't received the title or letter from the bank stating how much my monthly payments would be so I called my bank. They told me they sent the check back to the dealer at the end of Feb because it was not endorsed properly on the dealers behalf and missing a signature from one of the two of us on the loan.
I called the Dealer to see if they received the check back and why they hadn't called us. They investigated and of course they have the check back but gave no explanation just asked us to come and sign again, which we did.
Another month and a half later, still nothing. So I call the bank again and ask if they received anything, they haven't. I called the dealer and they investigate and turns out they overnighted the check to their bank but their bank never received it. They are asking me to get another check from my bank and come up there and with it and we do this process over. The car is almost at 5000 miles and is not paid for cause of their mess up, and they did not follow up.
Honestly, I don't even want the car anymore. Can I give them the car back? Technically this is the Dealers screw up and I had to do the dive to figure out what is going here. It seems a little shitty on my part but is it legal? Am I breaking a contract giving the car back? I really wanted to give it back a week later and they said I couldn't and I feel like this could be a blessing.

2024.05.21 22:40 art_w0rm PC for Artist/Gamer

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Gaming, streaming/video editing, animation, and eventual game development. So, multitasking.
Emphasis on animation; Toon Boom, Blender, Clip Studio Paint, rendering.
Editing is Vegas Pro, using OBS to record.
Game Development including Unity and/or Unreal Engine. Definitely not pushing the graphics to its limits during game development; I don't expect to be making triple A games by any means, just indie titles.
Gaming is on the lower end of priorities but still there; I wanna be able to play games like Apex Legends, Fallout, and others without issue. I dont need the prettiest graphics ever, but decent; I prioritize performance over ultra-realistic graphics any day.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$1600 is my max budget.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Within a month or two.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Nothing extra included; advice or recommendations for decent budgeted monitors is welcomed though.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Oregon, USA.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
First build, not reusing anything.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
No preference; probably not.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
From what I've seen, SSD's are better for animations/game development.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
I really dont have an aesthetic preference. Something thatll do what I need without catching fire is all I need.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No.
Extra info or particulars:
An explanation as to why youd choose what you recommend vs another spec would be very helpful, as mentioned this is my first build and I'm still learning and researching!

2024.05.21 22:36 EvetheDragon84 27 (F4M) Upstate NY/Anywhere. Dating apps are dumpster fires when you're ugly.

Now that all the real people have blown past this post, let me introduce myself to the bots of this dumpster fire in particular:
Hi, my name is Eve (until I trust you enough with my other name, which will probably be never) and I'm a fucked up-aholic. I think you have to be to be looking for anything genuine or real on reddit. I recently re-downloaded a couple dating apps and it's shattered any last remaining bits of confidence or self-love I had for myself. So, here I am.
I'm not desperate, though. I'm very comfortable being alone. If you're the type of person who messages every "F" (or just anyone) who posts and right swipes through dating apps as fast as your thumb can go, you need not apply. One of my biggest gifts (and curses) is my ability to read people, even online. I check everyone's profile, and I will absolutely make fun of you as I ignore your "hey" ass. Save us both the time and exit out here; no harm, no foul, but I'll remember our time fondly =)
I'm looking for someone whose life would be enriched by a partner, someone who is looking for a wife and children not because they need it but because they desire it. I find that too many people seek relationships because it fulfills a need for them, whether it be sex or children or simple companionship. I am a solitary creature; I desire none of these things unless I find someone I truly like. Sadly, there is no one I currently like enough to be in the same zipcode with, much less grow intimate with.
I made it clear from the title that you won't gain a "trophy wife" here. If looks are your motive, you can also exit out here. Men think all women have it easy. For sex, sure, but the second us ugly ones want more, we're reminded that we're only useful for the middle letter in my name. And I'm worth more than that. If no one else thinks so, then I will happily die as simply nothing.
I ask that you have no current children. No marital background is strongly preferred (never married). US is also preferred, the closer to Upstate NY the better, as I'm not a fan of long distance (but if I like you enough, distance doesn't matter). No cigarette smokers. Also, please want marriage and children in the future. Other than that, I don't care about anything other than getting to know the real person behind the reddit profile. If I message back, you interest me, simple as that.
Take a look at my profile and see if I interest you. I am very honest on here, ironically, as this is the epicenter of shit posting and dishonesty, it seems. My physical characteristics: I'm white, have a few tattoos, wear glasses as I can't wear contacts, 5'5", "BBW" as the kids say but I attempt to live the healthiest lifestyle I can. Light brown hair and dark green eyes.
If you've made it this far, I'm impressed. Send me a chat (preferred over messages) with your favorite music lyric so I can instantly judge your taste in music and thus, your quality as a human being. 😝
Thanks for reading my semi-rant and I hope to hear from any breathing, non-prick humans soon.

2024.05.21 22:34 Waterbugs2 NTTA Failure to Pay Criminal Case!! Advice needed for anybody who has experience with NTTA

I’m going to school out of Texas, my parents didn’t tell me I was getting any zip pay invoice. I went home a month ago for spring break and found all of the invoices from a year ago and freaked out. It’s $500 with the late fees.
Now I forwarded my mail, I just got sent that I have a criminal charge of failure to pay, and I have to contact the court before 5/30. It’s 5/21 today and I just received this letter a few days ago. it was sent on 5/1. I need to contact the court “to make disposition for criminal case”, or else the court will issue a warrant for my arrest. I wish I could just explain my situation. The court number on the letter won’t pick up any calls the last few days I’ve been trying, so I can atleast semi-explain my situation. I already contacted NTTA and paid it off in full. I paid $500, I can no way afford a plane ticket down to Texas now if I need to appear in court. It’s a 24 hour drive away.
Does anybody have experience with this? Will I need to plan around buying a plane ticket to appear in court? Do I try calling the court number listed on google?

2024.05.21 22:27 Maine26 Suspicious ovarian mass - please help

Hi,
I was due to start IVF treatment this week, after trying to conceive for 3 years (2 years of infertility investigations during this time), but during my baseline scan at my IVF clinic which is based in Prague, they found a suspicious looking mass in my left ovary. They decided that we couldn't proceed with treatment, and advised us to go to our GP back in the UK for investigations fairly urgently. They did some blood tests including CA125 and CA19-9, which both came back elevated.
I called my GP as soon as we were back and they booked me in for a blood test and ultrasound in the UK. I'm even more confused now, as I seem to be receiving conflicting information between the UK and Prague.
Can anyone advise whether I need to be worried? I'm concerned that my blood results are elevated, as my CA125 when tested in previous years has always been around 33 IU/mL. Why would my bloods be elevated to almost double this (results below), if everything is okay? Should I be worried about ovarian cancer and pushing for a 2 week wait referral?
I am considering paying for a private MRI scan to see if it shows anything in more detail, is it worth doing this?
Details about me, and about Prague and UK results are below. I'll attach the ultrasound scans from Prague as well.
Sex - F Age - 37 Medications - I have been taking folic acid, vitamin D, cetirizine, Co-q10
PRAGUE RESULTS CA125 - 65 kU/l CA19-9 - 63,4 kU/l CEA - 0,9 ug/l HE4 - 62,7 pmol/l
She had ultrasound scan done at our clinic today (13.05.2024), please see the images attached.
The left ovary (64x39mm) includes a cystic inhomogeneous mass – 39mm in diameter, possibly dermoid, which is embedded in a hypoechoic larger cystic resistence, that could be a endometrioma.
We have rather took a blood sample and patient was tested for tumour markers CEA, CA 19,9, CA 125, HE4. We will provide the results as soon as we receive them.
The recommendation: To undergo laparascopy (LSK) to further examinte the left ovary and get the complete information about the mass.
UK RESULTS CA125 - 54 IU/mL CA19-9 - 62 U/mL
Exam.: US Pelvis transabdominal & transvaginal Reason for Study: ?mass on ovary
Clinical Information: undergoing private fertility treatment, suspicious mass found on international USS, on ovary, have advised 2ww locally to confirm whether there is a mass on the ovary
US Pelvis TA and Transvaginal : TV scan performed with verbal consent and single use probe cover. Trophon cycle 12213, Room 5.
The uterus is in an anteverted position and measures 8.1cm in length.
The endometrium is regular in appearance and measures 4.6mm.
The right ovary appears normal.
The left ovary contains a previously seen endometrioma measuring 3.9 x 3.1 x 3.5cm. On reviewing the ultrasound images from the International scan, it appears that the likely haemorrhagic cyst is resolving now.
There is an elongated calcification within the left ovary measuring 11x4mm, this could be a small dermoid in origin or a result from a previous endometrioma ablation.
No free fluid in the pelvis.
Impression:
Likely haemorrhagic cyst seen on the International Ultrasound which is now resolving. Known left ovarian endometrioma.
Possible small dermoid calcification on the left ovary.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

2024.05.21 22:26 TaterzPrecious Conflicted about giving two weeks notice…

I was laid off in July ‘23 from my good paying fully remote job and ended up with a less than desirable position that’s hybrid and is a 2 hour round trip commute currently.
The salary and commission at my current position has not lived up to the companies promises and overall the company just has a lot of red flags I have to deal with the backlash from. I do like most of my coworkers and manager though.
I received my official offer letter with a new place that is fully remote and pays much better than my current job with a 6/10 start date. I submitted my background info and have a drug screen scheduled; I would not put notice in until this is complete.
My commission is paid out at the end of the month and is a month in arrears, I will receive April’s at the end of this month on that paycheck. My concern is that if I give them notice that I am leaving they will make me leave that day and I won’t get my final commission check. It states on the commission outline that you must be employed on the PAID date of the commission.
I also noticed that they will not pay out any PTO…but dock you for PTO used and not accrued (even though it shows the full amount on Jan 1 in the system). So I could potentially be docked 3-4 days of pay if I work out the full two weeks as well.
I’ve never not worked out my full two weeks but I am just so mentally done with this place that I am considering putting in notice the day I get paid next week (as long as background check is done) and leaving there and then.
Is this a really bad decision??
