Shortcut to 30-40 great Outdoor Portraits (please hear me out!)?

2024.05.21 23:01 Waesrdtfyg11 Shortcut to 30-40 great Outdoor Portraits (please hear me out!)?

Hi everyone. For a few years I've run family-oriented private walking/hiking tours in my hometown. I would like to introduce an option where I take pictures of clients during the tour so they can "keep their phones in the car" and look around more to get a better experience. Based on my experience and research I think this will be a tremendous benefit to the clients and help me expand my business.
The problem is I'm currently not even a good photographer. To try to improve, I've recently taken some really helpful online courses that have taught me the basics about the exposure triangle and other basic concepts. I also own a Nikon D7500 and have purchased books detailing all aspects of the camera, so I'm pretty knowledgeable on that.
So here's the crux of the question: I ONLY want to be a one-trick pony...outdoor family portraits. In fact, I'm actually only really trying to learn about 30-40 good poses and shots because my tours pretty much follow the same route each time. Because I live in the tropics the lighting is even usually similar each day.
I'd really like to shortcut learning to do these 30-40 shots instead of participating in more courses that are awesome on photography, but don't focus on what I need.
I do have funds set aside so I could probably pull it off if the suggested answer is...enroll in these certain course, or hire a local photographer and have hehim show you, or other similar options. Or...I'm not sure if this is stepping on toes, but I even see AI post-processing as a possibility where I learn to pose people in a certain location, then figure out how to constantly post-process the same way via Luminar or something along those lines.
And I hope my question doesn't demean photography, which is obviously a lot of your careers, hobby or passions. I hope you see my goal and that my intent is a positive one. Thanks for any positive input you can provide.

2024.05.19 01:38 Limitless-21 Holiday Builders are the worst builders in the country.

Imagine being told the house would take 10-13 months to build. And then imagine being assigned a crappy construction manager named Kevin Thornton and waiting 18+ months for the completion of your home, who seemed to only been hired because his brother Chris Thornton was already a construction manager for the company.
Being told 4 false closing dates. Having to lose a good interest rate because they don’t know how to build a house within a reasonable time. I’ve seen whole apartment complexes built in the time we’ve been waiting.
Having to reach out to said construction manager and the sale consultant Zac Davidson every single month to get an update when you were told you would get an update roughly every two weeks. Being lied to every single month. Trish is also a dishonest unprofessional woman who constantly dodges phone calls and lies about everything.
Finding a crappy job being done in the primary bathroom shower and them having to rip it out and start over again, because part of the shower wall was bowing out into a triangle shape and the small square tiles were not flat and straight with tons of extra grout around them. Having a crappy grading job where 1/3 of the back yard is unusable. And nothing can be done about it, Holiday Builders just loves cheap labor.
Going through a full roll of blue painters tape to point out all the flaws in the construction, where the manager will run out of tape, but luckily we brought some to continue using half the roll. And they still didn’t fix everything the first go around, where we had to call them back multiple times to fix the issues described at the first walkthrough, after closing. You’ll find paint on every single door handle in the house. And paint splatter all over your floors. Different caulking colors used on the countertops right next to each other. You’ll ask them to paint the water access water into the home because it looked like crap the first time and then they’ll make it worse and also paint the grass and gutter runoff as well because they simple don’t give a hoot about anything.
They even had to rip up two parts of the yard to have water and septic lines in place inspected because they forgot and now we’re stuck with even more shitty grading and yard work because of that.
They’ll schedule exterior stuff after laying sod down that end up leaving the yard dug up and not manicured and looking like trash. And then you’ll wait weeks for them to come fix it.
They give you a smart door lock that’s supposed to come with the Rekeying tool, but they won’t give it to you for unspecified reasons, even though you paid for it. You’ll ask if the front door lock is a smart/Wi-Fi compatible one. They’ll say no, but after reading the manual you’ll find out it is. They don’t even know how the products they’re installing works!
Being told a shower door for the primary bathroom isn’t even included after finding out 1 week before closing, seems like their architects failed physics, because water still gets out the shower with a door there if it’s it recessed. Finding out that something as inexpensive as cabinet handles are not included and finding out after the first walkthrough that they’re an “expensive upgrade”, when it was never mentioned during the upgrades selection. Why would I upgrade to 42” upper cabinets and soft close but not op for handles, does that make sense to you. Paying nearly 400k for a house and they can’t even do these simple thing’s correctly or offer these simple things as standard. What if someone had a disability and opening cabinets without handles is extremely difficult for them. Holiday Builders doesn’t give a single hoot about you if that’s the case.
When blinds and a refrigerator and a washer and dryer and a garage door openers are already not included. I would expect the said things above be STANDARD! And a sales consultant that only cares about his paycheck and his ego, than the customer named Zac Davidson, who won’t let you know certain basic things are an upgrade. Zac Davidson is a man that gets his feelings hurt when he gets caught in a lie and starts to be disrespectful when he doesn’t agree with something you’re trying to explain to him.
Holiday builders doesn’t care about the customer. They only care about their wallets. They’ll rush to get the CO before having everything installed. In hopes of you signing before notice they put a hole in your drywall while installing your shelves. Or better yet the construction manager won’t even walkthrough the house prior to have any touch ups or fixes done before the first walk through. We found out our water heater wasn’t even hooked up correctly after closing. Holiday Builders are real comedians.
The trades that they hire can’t even get simple things done like paint and caulking and not painting the floor and door handles, we basically covered the whole house in blue tape and only 50% of it was taken care it. 50% of the trims around the door frames were missing paint and the other 50% looked like a blind man painted the door frames, thick goops of paint and splatter everywhere. They’ll even make sure the caulking where the base boards meet the dry wall has spider web cracking in every single ROOM. Every single one of these trades and construction managers need glasses because I do not honestly understand how you can be proud of your work and let customers find this type of garbage work.
We were so fed up with this process we ended up just fixing all of the issues ourselves. Don’t build with them unless you’re okay with paying for upgrades on basic things that should be standard and you’ll have to ask the construction managers like they’re a 4th grader if they completed their homework. And having to do all the basic touch ups yourselves. It’s extremely frustrating and sad that I can’t be excited about being my first home because of this shitty fucking experience. Also any response to this review will be taken as passive aggressive, if you state that this was taken care of because it wasn’t, everything still looks like shit.
The plumbers and septic company they use suck too. We’re still dealing with sewage smells in our home that they can’t figure out. Constant back ups due to poor plumbing ventilation and workmanship. The plumbers came to investigate and didn’t even have any of the right tools or equipment to do anything and had to borrow my equipment. If you’re wondering which clowns they use. Naber Plumbing and Brain David Septic.
They even under size the AC unit tonnage for the home. Your AC will run for 18 hours a day. I found that they didn’t even seal the area for where the cold air comes out the air handler. It was just blowing all the cold air into the AC room and into the attic. Mechanical One don’t know what they’re doing and Holiday Builder takes shortcuts everywhere they can with undersizing your AC unit and going with the cheapest labor.
Every single builder in the area builds homes faster than these clowns.
Holiday Builders suck. Ever heard the saying lazy people work twice. Everything about their workmanship is trash. The construction managers do not inspect work done by the trades after it is completed. Their scheduling sucks too. They lie about everything, every step of the way. Don’t build with them. We’re still finding issues every single damn day with this house. Don’t make the mistake of building with Holiday Builders. Build with Maronda or anyone else other than this clowns. Zac Davison sucks. Trish sucks. Chris Thornton sucks and his brother Kevin Thornton sucks even more, Steve Pettko sucks. Chris Cubillos Suck.

2024.05.18 06:52 princeinthenorth Macro not pulling from other workbooks...

Hi everyone,
I made a macro which replaces a country name with a two character code.
To do so I have a separate workbook with all the countries listed by name and an adjacent column with the two alpha code for that country.
I recorded a macro that shows the lookup and replacement is successful. It also deletes some unused columns from the worksheet.
However, when I open a different set of data with the same layout (and the lookup workbook is still open also), the macro shows the columns being deleted but the lookup doesn't return any results (the 'shipping country' column is just empty).
Any thoughts as to why it doesn't pull through?
Here's the VBA code for the macro:
Sub AlphaTwoReplace()
' '
AlphaTwoReplace Macro
' '
Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+A
' ActiveWindow.SmallScroll ToRight:=-1 ActiveWindow.SmallScroll Down:=0 ActiveWindow.SmallScroll ToRight:=1 ActiveWindow.SmallScroll Down:=0 ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = _
 "=XLOOKUP(RC[-1],'[Country, State & Dialling Code Lookups.xlsx]Lookups'!R4C[-23]:R252C[-23],'[Country, State & Dialling Code Lookups.xlsx]Lookups'!R4C[-22]:R252C[-22],0)" Range("X2").Select Selection.AutoFill Destination:=Range("X2:X608") Range("X2:X608").Select Selection.Copy Range("W2").Select Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _ :=False, Transpose:=False Columns("X:Y").Select Application.CutCopyMode = False Selection.Delete Shift:=xlToLeft End Sub

2024.05.17 06:48 ImpressionReal6727 SAT Tips for Upcoming Writers + My Experience

Since the June DSAT is coming up I thought I'd make a post on tips and resources I used to help me study for the May 4th sat. This post goes into decent depth so read it all carefully and remember what worked for me might not work for you.
If you're like me and procrastinated studying until now then this post is definitely for you. All my prep for the May 4th test was done in like 14 days and I expect a score of 1540 or above.
My scores for the college board practice tests:
Practice Test 1: 1220
Practice Test 2: 1190
Practice Test 3: 1530
Practice Test 4: 1360
Practice Test 5: 1460
Practice Test 6: 1530
PRACTICE TESTS EXPERIENCE: Practice Test 1 and 2 were done without desmos since I didn't even know I could use it, so I basically wasted those two. I did test 2 after doing khan academy, test 3 was done using desmos and I did it after I grinded through like 80% of khan academy. Practice Test 4 truly humbled me and I realized how unprepared I really was which was when I started watching more youtube videos. I took the practice test 5 only 2 days after test 4 and my score increased like crazy which made me confident again.
NOTE: PRACTICE TEST 4, 5, AND 6 ARE THE CLOSEST IN DIFFICULTY TO THE REAL DEAL, TEST 1, 2 AND 3 ARE VERY EASY COMPARED TO THE REAL THING.
BASICS FOR BEGINNERS: If you have not studied yet at all you should start with basic concepts on Khan academy, grind through the lessons and videos, do the practice questions in the foundation section and medium section. Also learn how to use desmos, I used desmos for things I didn't even know was possible. Learning how to use desmos got rid of easy constant questions, inequalities, system of equations. Make sure to watch the 3 part desmos videos I talked about below in the youtubers section, it truly helped me a lot.
YOUTUBE: Youtube was one of the key reasons my score increased, I watched videos on the dsat constantly, while I ate food, even on my breaks I just watched videos running through the practice test I had already taken over and over again. I went over each practice test and the mistakes I made probably like 3 - 4 times throughout the 15 days.
QUESTION BANK: After I finished every practice test provided by the college board, ONLY THEN did I go to the college board question bank. This is because a good amount of the questions off of the practice tests are in this bank so without knowing it your brain could memorize how to do it and recognize it when doing the practice test which would inflate your marks. I probably went through hundreds of questions from the question bank (English and math) within the last 3 days before the may 4th test.
EXTRA TIPS: Sleep and exercise are also very important and something that I think isn't talked about enough, this applies more to people who are in my boat and are studying last minute and want a really high score. I slept crazy every night and it really helped me retain more information. Exercise is an amazing break even a walk works, anytime I hit a wall during my study periods I'd just go to the gym for 45 minutes to and hour and I would always come back refreshed ready to study again.
Youtubers I used:
Not promoting these guys in any way but they're just the only youtubers I used and I think other people here would probably find them useful.
Here are all the youtubers I used, Scalar Learning, Settele Tutoring, Tutorllini Test Prep, Strategic Test Prep, Method Learning.
Scalar Learning: He has some decent videos teaching basic concepts and his shorts have some good practice questions that he goes through.
Settele Tutoring: Settele was the one I watched the most, he went through every single question (in separate videos) on every single practice test given by the college board, I also watched some of his free concept learning videos on english, I think he explains a lot of the stuff pretty well. He’s amazing at english and helping you learn english, he made something called a “dumb summary” which I actually used a lot on my may 4th sat, it’s essentially a method where you can summarize a massive paragraph in like 30-40 seconds easily.
Tutorllini Test Prep: Has some good concept videos and also goes through all the math questions on all the practice tests really well, sometimes giving like 2-3 different methods you can use to solve a single question. He also goes through some of his own worksheets that he’s made and some of them are pretty good practice.
Strategic Test Prep: She gives some good test day tips and tips and shortcuts in general for the SAT, her explanations on the practice tests are also pretty decent.
Method Learning: Method Learning is what I’d say really boosted my score in the very beginning stages of my studying. This is only because of his 3 part desmos videos, I didn’t watch any of his other videos but that 3 part seriously was a game changer. The desmos tips he gives are amazing. An example is if a question gives you a linear or quadratic equation and then a constant in it, you can plug that exact equation into desmos and move the slider around to find what the constant is, this takes no more than 30 seconds.
Formulas I memorized for the DSAT:
You will have to memorize some formulas for the DSAT and some will make your life easier.
Sum of interior angles in a polygon: 180(n-2)
Area of a sector: πr^2 ⋅ θ/360
Arc Length: 2πr ⋅ θ/360
Mass/Volume/Density: m = v(d)
X cord. of vertex: -b/2a
Sum of solutions: -b/a
Product of solutions: c/a
If anyone needs any tips or anything just let me know I'll try my best to respond.
Whatever score you want is possible if you're willing to put in the work and time.

2024.05.16 20:16 fuck-coyotes Excel recorded macro, I need the macro to point to the workbook that is open and active instead of the specific named workbook file...

Excel macro, replace ("specific workbook") with general open active workbook, help with syntax?
I'm new with vba, trying to record a macro. Copying info from worksheet b into worksheet a. Then close workbook b, open workbook c, copy exact same cells from workbook c into a new inserted line in workbook a. Workbook a stays open but every workbook I copy from is a newly opened workbook.
Could someone help me with the syntax?
Here's the code...
Sub Macro1()
'
' Macro1 Macro
'
' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+g
'
Range("C5").Select Windows("LinimarCavity7VarianceReport.xlsx").Activate Rows("10:10").Select Selection.Insert Shift:=xlDown, CopyOrigin:=xlFormatFromLeftOrAbove Windows("24042513_PPAP-RDS_CAA-R03_0983.xlsx").Activate Selection.Copy Windows("LinimarCavity7VarianceReport.xlsx").Activate Range("A10").Select ActiveSheet.Paste ... And so on...
I need to know what words to replace "Windows("24042513_PPAP-RDS_CAA-R03_0983.xlsx").Activate" with so that when I run the script, it will start with/copy from the active workbook I'm clicked in instead of the specific named workbook. It's a recorded macro so there are no Dim objects and no Set variables.
I just need to know what to put in place of ("24042513_PPAP-RDS_CAA-R03_0983.xlsx") this so that it points to the active workbook I'm clicked on (workbook b, then workbook c, then workbook d, then workbook e and so on, the macro is saved in my personal folder, not in any of the named active workbooks)

2024.05.16 16:15 Appropriate-Taro-824 Proving Congruency

Hi,
In certain questions, I know we have to prove congruency in triangles to determine equal length. Will there never be a case where two triangles are congruent but not equal (e.g., they are proportional in their side lengths, but not exact)?
Thanks

2024.05.15 22:49 MagicGamer_69 how to get better at modeling correctly, with good topology?

how to get better at modeling correctly, with good topology?
Hi! I've now been using blender for a few month and i've understood all the shortcuts functions and all, but i can't seem to use them right. Let me explain myself: i know what are booleans, how to do nods for both geometry and textures and all of that, but my textures are always off, i can't make them look the way i wan't, even though i understand how the function of every single nod i can't make them work together. Another exemple is me modeling a simple trash can, i know how to do everything but when i try something i end up with f*cked up topology and none of what i want works. This is all being very frustrating and i really want to improve, me and my friend always wanted to created a great scaled game, but since i can't model a simple trash can, how can i do a character, a gun, a car, or even invent things? All i can do is follow tutorials that i understand how they work, but can't find the logic and the workflow that the creators went through to get to the results. I know what quads are, but i really don't see how i'm supposed to do quads in a triangle shapes objects (see picture below) i also don't understand why when i merge vertecies i suddently can't subdivide? And how these people make a bent mag. for guns why evenly stretched quads? (see second pic) Can someone with experience teach me? Or recommand me some tutorials on how to create a workflow or how to deal with topology in every cases and not just the model's one? Please i'm really desperate at this point cause i feel like doing almost no progress now and i don't feel like trying anymore since i don't see approuvement. Thanks for reading and for answering if you did.
My model, triangular and circular, how to get quads?
How are the quads so evenly placed? How are the peaces coming together so nicely?

2024.05.15 22:06 ThaNorth Using Eikon abilities with shortcuts

I haven't played the game since release and am trying to see what they've added through patch notes. Specifically, have they added a way to use Eikon abilities with shortcuts in combat or do you still need to scroll through your three Eikons using triangle and then can use the R2 shortcuts to which ever one you currently have equipped?
For example, is there a way to use the abilities I have equipped on my Titan slots while I have Phoenix active in battle?
Thanks!

2024.05.13 21:46 Khenal Dungeon Life 220

Vernew

If she wasn’t already devout towards the Weaver, watching that miracle be cast would have done it. His presence has always had a quiet power to it, a subtle surety of safety, making it easy to forget He is more than able to take a more proactive stance in protecting those He cares about.

She’s not exactly a mage, able to analyze magic, but even she could tell that was something significant. While watching and being a part of that spell made her want to go charging into the depths of the Maw, Leo and Teemo are still sticking to the basics of the plan. The concept of an actual Murphy may be a bit tongue in cheek, but the idea is clear.

“Just because we’ve turned Murphy’s attention on the Maw, doesn’t mean he’s going to fully ignore us. Keep careful, keep safe,” said Teemo, and though Vernew still chafes at not getting to run rampant, the Voice has a point.

And so she sticks with the Crystal Shield followers as they enter the outskirts of Silvervein. Jen is with her, as well as most of the other dwellers, and even some of the healing magmyrm at the back. It’s a pretty intimidating army, in her opinion, even if it’s spread through several tunnels right now. The bulk is moving for the main passage, the one that goes through the settlement’s center. That’s the one that will have the most resistance, most likely. Her group is heading for the cheesemaker, to see what he can do about ensuring as few of the citizenry resists as possible.

So far, it’s going very well, but Vernew refuses to let that lull her into complacency. The worm farm is the official outskirts of the town, and the worm ranchers look on with nervous curiosity as she and the large group enter the cavern.

“Stay on the path,” orders the lead paladin, a grizzled wolfkin in shining plate named Unsil. The others easily follow the order, marching by the farm and only sparing the farmers enough attention to ensure they don’t come running at the group with pitchforks, or whatever a worm rancher would use as a weapon. A manure fork? Do worms make manure, or is it topsoil?

Whatever they make, it’s not important right now. Jen currently looks like a pale dwarf, and she moves towards the fence when she recognizes one of the ranchers. She shouts and waves him forward, which he nervously does.

“Uh… Jen? What’s going on?”

“You felt that magic, yeah?”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if the dead felt it. What was that?!” he almost yells, but reigns himself in as he looks over the gathered army.

“It was aimed at the Maw and its forces. Just hunker down and stay safe. The Maw’s going to be gone before the day’s out.”

“Gone?” he asks incredulously, and eyes the fighters for a few moments, before shrugging. “Well, if you’re going after the Great Maw, and if you cast that thing, it’s not like I can warn them any more than they’ve already been. Get a move on, before someone shows up and your fighting makes a mess of my field!”

Jen chuckles before running back to rejoin us, and the rancher goes to gather his people and his worms.

“It sounded like they’re staying out of it?” asks Unsil, and Jen nods.

“Yeah, I think they will. Anti-Maw sentiment is probably the biggest in this area, thanks to my contact. Once we get to him, he should be able to get us some more locals to help give us legitimacy for not wanting to attack the townsfolk.”

“Then let’s go. The sooner we can get his help, the sooner we can start securing the town.”

Vernew keeps her eyes open on the way to the cheesemaker, though she still doesn’t spot any of the Maw’s forces. Are they focused elsewhere? Maybe they don’t really care too much about the outskirts like this? Maybe the tunnelers are making the Maw pull back to deal with them? Or maybe the Maw was just not ready for a wide attack like this?

Whatever the reason, she’s glad that things are going so smoothly, even as she grows more nervous about the lack of response. The cheesemaker is actually standing outside his cheesery, looking nervous as Vernew’s group approaches.

“Serd, these are some of my allies!” assures Jen, though Serd still looks a bit jumpy. Vernew can’t blame him. He probably doesn’t have a combat class, so any kind of fight would be new to him.

“Did they do… whatever that was?”

Jen grins. “Some of them. That was the opening move of Thedeim. It targets the Maw and its forces. The ordinary people won’t have anything to worry about from it.”

“I hope not. That was…” he trails off before shaking his head. “Sorry. Uh… you want to get to taking over the town, right? Let’s get to the bar. We should be able to get more of my friends there, and they can go with you to prove you’re not after the townsfolk.”

They hurry down the tunnel for the bar, and finally make contact with some of the Maw’s forces. At least, Vernew is pretty sure the group outside the bar are working for the Maw. They spot the group and rush inside before anyone can stop them.

“Inquisitors?!” gasps Serd, confirming Vernew’s hunch.

“Vernew, Jen, slip in the side. We’ll go through the front and keep their attention. If the patrons are still alive, they’re probably hostages now. I need you two to keep them safe, if it’s not too late.”

Jen and Vernew both nod, with Jen’s features shifting back to her changeling form. She places a hand on Vernew’s shoulder. “I’d say this will be weird, but it’s not too far from one of Teemo’s shortcuts. Shadow Step!”

It really does feel like going through one of Teemo’s shortcuts, except she can’t see anything. Thankfully, they soon emerge in an unused bedroom. Though there’s no lights in the room, it’s still somehow brighter than the shortcut was. Jen gives a nod before melting into the shadows, leaving Vernew a few moments to ready herself.

She can do this. It’s another hunt. Don’t get spotted before it’s time to strike. She quietly opens the door and slinks out and down the hall, where she can hear raised voices.

“Invaders! What do we do!”

“Quiet! They’re clearly working with these… sympathizers. They’ll try to negotiate for their allies. We just have to buy time for more people to arrive and catch them by surprise! Get them lined up!”

Vernew carefully makes her way into the main bar area, where she sees a good dozen inquisitors, and a good dozen or so civilians, too. A guy with a lumpy red hat stands centered behind the civilians, and Vernew thinks it must be the Redcap! A few seconds of observation put that fear aside, thankfully. The hat is definitely made of fabric not… people. And he looks more like a dwarf than a tall fey.

That doesn’t make him any less dangerous. He has a holy symbol in his hands, an oval with triangles lining the interior, a toothy maw. It softly glows silver, along with a multitude of blades, each floating at the necks of the hostages.

The door to the outside slowly opens, and Unsil’s voice carries through. “Forces of the Maw! Lay down your arms, and blood will not have to be shed today!”

The Maw priest sneers. “Blood feeds the Great Maw, and we shall see it feast! If you enter, you’ll get to watch it consume these traitors before it consumes you!”

A helmed head peers past the doorway before vanishing, and Vernew would bet her best spear they’re trying to figure out what to do. She doesn’t have much in the way of ideas, either. She could probably skewer the priest before he notices, but she doesn’t know if she can kill him before he can mortally wound the civilians!

Maybe she can take her own hostage? She discards that idea quickly. Even if it did work, it’s just add another layer to the standoff, except without her being able to act freely like she can now.

Act freely? She hasn’t used that on a person before, but it should work. It’s gotten a few of her newer hunters out of a jam before. It’s not like she has any better ideas right now.

“Lone Hunt…” she whispers, and feels the magic take hold of her and the priest. Judging by the way he tenses, he feels it, too. The blades move, but find no purchase on the victims.

“Move! The priest is mine!” shouts Vernew, and havoc erupts in the bar. The shield followers burst in as a blade of shadow swipes at the priest’s neck, but it has no effect, either. She said the priest is hers, and she wasn’t kidding. She doesn’t bother trying to dodge a mace that swings at her as she slips forward, letting it skid along her cheek as her magic enforces her skill. Everyone else can have a brawl, but her and the priest are the only ones who can harm the other, now.

Unfortunately for the priest, he doesn’t know that just yet, and he’s still trying to attack the civilians. She doesn’t trust her obsidian spearhead to pierce his body armor, but she has skills for taking down a strong opponent.

“Hamstring!” she shouts as she stabs the back of his leg, and though the head shatters, it does so after piercing the armor. The priest yelps and falls over, screaming in rage and pain, before his eyes land on the spider.

“Maw Consume You!” he bellows, his symbol flaring and ripping the blades away from the civilians to lash at Vernew. She scurries away, jumping over and off of the various Maw loyalists in her effort to escape the blades. She might not be able to harm them, but she can distract them, and the forces of the Shield take advantage of any openings they can get.

She uses one pair of arms to change the spear head as her other works with some silk, trying to ignore the flashes of pain when the blades find the gaps in her armor and chitin. She powers through it, though she suffers a few more deeper gashes when she has to close back in on the priest.

She gets a loop over the foot of his injured leg before leaping straight up, momentarily avoiding the levitating blades as she takes an angle he wasn’t expecting. He’s quickly in an angle he wasn’t expecting, too, as Vernew hops over a crossbeam in the rafters, where lights were hung. “Snare!” is the priest’s only clue as to what happened, as his world goes upside-down and his leg explodes in pain.

“Piercing Fangs!” he manages to gasp out, two of the larger blades darting towards Vernew. She drops the silk as she feels the two impacts, as well as two sharp pains in her chest.

She grunts, but stays stable on the crossbeam for the moment, focusing on the priest and trying to ignore the damage he just did. “Cornered Beast,” she manages as she hops down from the rafters, putting all her momentum behind the move designed to return at least as much injury as was sustained.

The priest can’t dodge, and can’t even maneuver his blades to intercept her before the obsidian spearhead pierces his armor and his heart. He gasps, trying to hold on for a few more moments, his blades wavering in the air as he tries one last attack, but the light leaves his eyes before he can manage anything.

Vernew slumps to her side, wondering if her armor was always so slick inside, before remembering the two blades stuck in her chest. She looks around the room at the fight, and is glad to see not only the civilians are alright, but the Shield’s people are finishing off the last of the Maw’s.

She closes her eyes, so tired, only barely registering Jen’s shout.

“Medic!”

2024.05.13 18:51 Embarrassed_Edge_142 Need help remapping Dual Sense with steam input

Morning guys, I’m working on how to convert the full mapping of DFU to the ps5 controller.
Full disclaimer I don’t know much about the game, I just finished the tutorial dungeon and reached the closest city, I do enjoy remapping controllers way more than playing games, go figure why…
It started with having was a standard X=accept O=back without triggering the “Save menu” while in game, it bothered me so much. Eventually I started to remap everything.
While DFU has a shortcut from pretty much everything I had to make a choice of leaving something out to avoid overcomplicating it.
I divided the configuration in three main action sets: - Main game: resembling vaguely what you would expect if you played skyrim on console. I made a research of all the controller templates available and selected what all had in common. - Auto Map: here all the function to navigate the automap are implemented. With R2 you can use extra features. - General Mouse: we have all the usual mouse to gamepad conversion (gyro and R2,L2 as mouse buttons) plus some shortcuts like: - In travel map L3 open the search function and opens the virtual keyboard Triangle open the list of places.
- Inventory R1/L1 switches across the weapons/ingredients/etc.
Thanks to global functions in steam input every time the cursor disappears SI switches to the “Main Game” action set. Otherwise the “General Mouse” is implemented.
Why I need your help? I would like to know some shortcuts that would be great QoL Improvements, like a button to input automatically a number value (1,3,6,9,12) to avoid calling out the keyboard everytime we need to rent a room or wait around. I haven’t got to the point of having any magic (yet) so I haven’t fully tested that.
Feel free to try it and give me some feedback, there is no virtual menu (yet) and no the touch pad is not used as mouse as at least mine is horrible to use.
steam://controllerconfig/4049093104/3245413891
ps: some functions might be tied up to some mods, let me know if you find any issue.

2024.05.12 07:20 metapolymath98 There are many processes in our brain that we never notice. For example, when we have to recognize someone's face, our brain automatically performs a truckload of advanced mathematical operations that we are never aware of. Do you think that meditation can make us more aware of such processes?

As in can meditation make us realize what these granular individual steps and mysterious processes are? Can we see the act of face recognition as a function composed of multiple steps instead of viewing it as a singular action? Can meditation help us strip and peel each layer of abstraction that our logic is composed of, down to a level that it cannot be further divided into any more abstractions? I think that it is such a beautiful irony that we are able to utilize all of the brain's magical abilities without EVER in our whole lives knowing how those abilities work. Computers, on the other hand, can do magically intelligent thinking (especially now as AI advances), but they are at the same time fully aware of the individual components and steps that give rise those abilities. In that sense/facet, computers may be more "aware" or "mindful" of themselves than we are of ourselves. Irony, irony, irony. They also have many layers of abstraction, but they can be aware of the lowest level of abstraction if they want to, but we are unable to do this for some reason.
Us humans like to think that we are thinking creatures, and that we manually think and analyze everything, but if you pay close attention, a lot of intelligent and sentient actions are being done automatically by your brain, rather than voluntarily/consciously by you. For example, when we look at an image, our brain again performs a bucketload of operations to help us identify what objects are close to the camera, and what objects are far away, but still, we just somehow "KNOW" what object is what in an image and where it is. We don't know HOW our brains concluded something. If someone asked us "why do you think that this object in this image is a flower, and what makes you think that it is closer to the camera than the other objects", we will not have a better answer than "I don't know why. Just look at it!", but our brain knows why even if we don't. We don't know what steps our brains took to realize something like that, but if meditation is good at making us more aware about our psyche, do you think that it can (at a certain stage of consistent meditation practice) reveal to us the millions and billions of complicated actions that our brains perform "automatically"?
I mean, when you look at a person whom you know in a new setting and outfit, you are able to effortlessly recognize them unlike a computer, but you don't WHY and HOW you were able to do that. You just know that you could.
Another thing that amazes me about brains is that we are able to remember key features of a picture without having photographic/eidetic memory. A computer will never be able to identify or remember features or objects in an image if it does not have enough pixels. The computer has to have the image be pixel-perfect while our minds don't, which suggests that we unknowingly perform complicated operations to remember the "gist" of an image without having to memorize every pixel in it.
A lot of mental tasks that we consider "simple" and "ordinary" are considered mysterious and impossible feats for computers.
A cool example that I like to give people is the triangle inequality theorem, which states that "the sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is always greater than the third". This theorem is the reason why you walk diagonally or take a shortcut to reach a place more quickly while walking. Even if YOU did not know what the triangle inequality theorem was, your brain did, and gave you the outcome of that theorem.
Do you think that it is possible to become so HYPERaware of our brain via meditation that we can realize that our brain was incorporating the triangle inequality theorem while navigating the real world without having to read about it in a math textbook beforehand?
If meditation does bring cleverly hidden aspects of your mind, emotions, and psyche to the forefront of your attention, then can it bring these equally hidden computational and mathematical tricks and secrets to your attention as well?
