I don't know why I'm telling you this. Maybe as a warning. Maybe I just want to know that there's someone, anyone, who will listen to what I have to say and react appropriately.
I live in a small town at the base of a semi-famous mountain, somewhere in Northern California. I’m not going to disclose exactly which town, however it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to figure it out. Our population is 3,165, a large percentage of which consists of rich old people and weed smoking hippies. Objectively, it’s a beautiful place: there are nice restaurants for the tourists, long hikes concluding in crashing waterfalls, and views from even the downtown windows that could be called breathtaking. To the locals like me, of course, these perks are somewhat watered down by years at the tiny, poorly funded high school and the thirty minute drive to get to the nearest Walmart. But even with that being said, the spirits here are generally high, especially during the summer.
I won’t lie, it’s not like I’ve never noticed strange things. I think something paranormal or otherworldly can be said about any town, especially ones that get boring after living in them your entire life. Rumors spread, stories are born and passed around like souvenirs. My town is no exception to this rule. However, until a couple of weeks ago, these stories only scared me when it was dark outside.
Something started feeling seriously wrong on a perfectly sunny Sunday afternoon. My friends and I went to the city park, as we sometimes did when sitting inside, playing GTA, and shit talking the same people we knew in high school again (did you hear that Jessica got pregnant? No way, I thought she was still in jail...) got boring.
We sat by the rusty, slightly off-putting, 12 foot metal clown by the jungle gym (why did they never get rid of that thing?) eating our supermarket sandwiches and trying to subtly hit a blunt from behind our sweatshirt sleeves, as the park was swarming (compared to usual) with the spring rush of tourists, enjoying the sun and each other's slightly high conversation. Laughing at something my friend had said that I no longer remember but must have been funny at the time, I looked around the park. Everything seemed particularly lighthearted that day - there were children playing tag on the other side of the grass plain, people picnicking, dogs chasing sticks and joyfully returning them to their owners, and a family standing side by side, staring up at the white peaks of the mountain in what seemed like awe.
"Shouldn't the snow be gone by now?" My friend said, following my gaze and motioning for the half smoked blunt balanced between my fingers. "It seems like it stays longer every year."
"Because it snows later and later," I replied, glancing around before passing her the weed I'd been babysitting. "Global warming and whatnot."
"Weird," Marcy called from behind us. She was hanging upside down on the bars, her long hair nearly brushing against the gravel. "It seems wrong for there to be that much snow up there in the middle of April."
"There isn't any snow down here, at least," Naomi said absentmindedly next to me, taking a long drag. I watched her flick her short blonde bangs away from her increasingly reddening eyes.
All three of us went quiet for a moment, listening to the warm breeze dance in the head of the metal clown behind us, creating a hollow sort of chime. I kicked at the rocks at my feet, enjoying my buzz. The sounds of the kids running around seemed far away to me, almost like my friends and I were in a little glass box.
"God," Naomi scoffed, breaking through the comfortable silence. She tried to hold in a snort. "Fuckin' tourists. Haven't they ever seen a mountain before?"
"I know," Marcy laughed.
I looked up from my shoes, looking around for who they were talking about. It was immediately obvious. The same family that I had noticed before were still standing there, facing the mountain. They were turned away from us, but I could still tell that their eyes were locked directly on the peak, their heads synonymously tilted upwards. They hadn't moved an inch. How long had it been?
As if reading my thoughts, Marcy swung down from the bars, landing with a clumsy crunch.
"Maybe I'm just high," she mumbled, frowning at them. "But haven't they been standing there a while?"
Naomi scoffed again. "Why don't they just take a picture?"
I swallowed my absence of saliva, shifting uncomfortably. My mouth was suddenly unbearably dry. Even from here I could see the camera straps around the parents necks, untouched. A small dog, maybe a Jack Russel Terrier, scurried in circles around them. It stopped and pawed at the child's calve, dropping the tennis ball in it's mouth and yapping. The kid didn't react. None of them did.
"That..." I didn't know what to say. I felt like all of the breath was being sucked from my lungs. "That's weird, right?"
"Super weird."
Marcy shifted uncomfortably. She had gone silent. She took the blunt from Naomi's hand and stubbed it out against the metal jungle gym, flicking the roach to the ground and stepping on it. "I think I should get home. I've got laundry to do."
I didn't think she was telling the truth, but I felt a little uneasy too. I nodded, pulling my sweatshirt tight around my chest.
As we made our way across the grass toward the parking lot, I couldn't help but glance back at the family. Something seemed so off about them, like something was deeply wrong and I just couldn't put my finger on it. But when I turned to look, it was like it never happened. The dog was yipping happily as the kid threw his ball, and the parents were sitting on the grass, aiming the cameras around their necks at the mountain and snapping away.
Over the next week, everything seemed normal. I had almost forgotten about what had happened at the park. I spent most of the time that I wasn't at work, like usual, indoors, glued to my couch, watching the same Adam Sandler movies over and over again. Most people seemed to think that the nice weather made them happier, or somehow changed things - for me, it wasn't like that. Something about this town seemed to drag you down, and keep you there. Even people who managed to move away, make something of themselves after high school... they always came back. This town drew you in somehow.
I was snapped out of my work-sleep-eat cycle, finally, the next Friday night. I heard honking outside my bedroom window and threw on my slightly more presentable pair of pajamas, rushing outside to find Naomi's dad's beat up Toyota Corolla parked haphazardly against the curb.
"Fancy a drive?" She called out the window in a terrible British accent.
I faked a laugh and climbed into the passenger seat, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. "Sure. Why not."
Our late night drives were far more common when we were teenagers, but now, we seemed to take them less for granted. She cranked up the staticky stereo, some shitty local pop station nearly deafening me.
"Sorry," she barked over the music. "No bluetooth."
A pile of empty beer bottles and cans clanked at my feet as I hopelessly knocked them around, reaching desperately for the handle on the ceiling.
"Are these yours or your dads?" I asked, trying not to let my voice shake as she careened around a corner.
"Probably a little bit of both," she yelled back with a smile.
She took another rough turn and I slammed against the passenger side door. I had remembered our drives in high school being a bit more relaxing, but then again, maybe I had been the one behind the wheel. I subtly turned the music down a few notches as we took the narrowing road out of town, the lights from windows growing in scarcity and the evergreens swallowing us as we took off into the forest.
"Remember when we used to drive up here and smoke? And watch those weird PSA videos?" Naomi shouted. She was rolling her window down, letting in the icy breeze and making it even more difficult for me to hear her.
Up here? I looked out the window at the inclining and increasingly windy road. She was taking us up the mountain.
It wasn't like that was crazy or abnormal for us, but for some reason, my heart sank into my stomach. I closed my eyes, and all I could see was the back of the heads of that family, perfectly still, staring up at the skyline.
I didn't open my eyes again until the car rolled to a stop. I hadn't noticed it happening, but the music was quiet now, the static sound overtaking most of any of the discernible lyrics.
"Woah," Naomi said. I blinked, my eyes adjusting to the light.
Wait. The light?
We were parked at the bottom of the mountain, where the hikers that often climbed to the top usually set up basecamp. The mountain was biggest from here, stretching across the horizon, towering above us like a monolith. We had come here so many times, and it had always been a little breathtaking, but now...
I let out a wheeze.
The sky was as bright as daylight. The snow covered peaks seemed to almost glow, or even swell. I swore I could even see clouds in the sky, peeking out from behind the trees.
I checked the time on the car's dashboard. 1:13 AM. It had been pitch dark out moments ago, yet I would have sworn it was long past sunrise up here.
The stereo crackled to life with a horrible sound, making me jump. The static seemed to creep up my arms and under my T-shirt, giving me goosebumps.
"D... D... D..."
"Naomi," I whispered, frozen in place. She was already reaching for my hand, digging her fingernails into my sweaty palm.
"D-D... Don't... Stop..."
"What the fuck," she exhaled. Both of us were like deer in headlights, staring dumbly at the radio. In my peripheral vision, the mountain glowed.
The voice didn't sound human, nothing like the optimistic pop artist that had been singing before. Nothing like anything I had ever heard before, or could even have even conjured up in my head. Certainly nothing I can explain in words now.
"D-D-Don't... Stop... Looking..."
Both the terrible screeching and the voice stopped at once, engulfing us in terrifying silence, and I found my gaze snapping back to the mountain. Right then, as crazy as it sounds, I knew it was breathing.
I could almost feel it next to me, like a mouth right next to my ear.
"Look at us," it whispered, in clear and perfect English.
I didn't need to say anything, Naomi was already shifting gears and peeling out of the parking lot. Neither of us said a word the entire drive back to town, and when she finally parked in front of my house, we took each other's hands and walked inside.
She slept in my bed that night, and neither of us said a word until it was bright outside, properly bright, and the birds were reassuringly chirping outside my window.
The next few days were a haze. Luckily I had the whole weekend, so there was no need to leave and go to work. Naomi stayed over until she was confident enough to drive home alone, and although it was nice to have the space, the house felt eerily empty without her. I couldn't even wrap my head around what I had seen, what I had heard. All I knew was I didn't want to leave, didn't want to see that mountain again, even for a second.
I shielded my windows with curtains, and when that didn't feel like enough, I boarded them up. I put my computer, my radio, everything but my phone in a closet at the end of the hall. I didn't want to take any chances. I didn't ever want to feel that way again, the way I had at the base of that mountain.
I couldn't sleep or eat. By the end of Sunday, I felt ready enough to sip at a bowl of chicken noodle soup from a can, and climb into bed. I could feel the dark circles under my eyes getting worse, threatening to swell and swallow them up altogether. With my room completely blacked out by the boarded windows, I could finally close my eyes.
I don't know why I woke up when I did. Maybe I had tripped on something. All I knew was I was back exactly where we had been that night, where we had sat in the car and the radio had spoken to us.
I remember not quite knowing if I was still asleep or fully awake, but I could feel the ground beneath my bare feet, aching and raw as if I had walked for hours. The wind whistled in my ears, my thin pajamas doing little to protect me from the cold.
I tried to keep my balance in my strange dream like state, looking up.
There was a man. Or what looked like a man.
His silhouette was almost completely indistinguishable, it was impossible to make out any details. It was like a child had taken scissors to where the rocky terrain met the backdrop of the mountain and tried to cut out the shape of a person.
He was moving. I couldn't tell if it was towards me or away.
I stumbled forward blindly. I felt scared, so scared I couldn't breathe, but it was like the cold was numbing all of my emotions, or like they were buried deep inside of me somehow. I didn't feel like myself, only like a body. Only like a pair of legs.
"Hey," I called out weakly, my voice swallowed by the screaming wind. It sounded like a thousand voices whispering, drowning out my own.
"Hey!" I tried again, louder.
The man didn't respond. He didn't react at all. As I grew closer, I realized he was walking away from me after all, toward the mountain.
My eyes were drawn up toward the mountain again. Glowing, breathing. I had to narrow my eyes until they were almost closed in order to focus.
There was less snow. It seemed ridiculous, but that was what immediately popped into my head. There was far less snow on the mountain than there had been a few days ago, as if large patches had suddenly melted away, but it hadn't gotten any warmer outside.
In fact, it looked like it was melting before my very eyes. It looked like it was moving. Shifting.
Migrating.
I strained my vision, trying desperately to understand what I was seeing.
My blood ran cold.
It wasn't the snow melting. It was people.
There were people up there, thousands of people. Moving.
Somehow I made it back down. It's hard to remember what happened after that.
No one seems to want to listen to me. Even Naomi seems to be forgetting what we witnessed. Everyone wants to brush me off, or tell me I'm another conspiracy theorist, like so many of the people who live here. I don't know how to convince them of what I saw. But I saw it. I don't know what to do.
There are people up there.
There is something wrong with the mountain, something that calls to them. I don't know what it does to them, or how. It almost got me that night.
Every night I hear it breathe. And every day I see more tourists, staring. Walking towards the base.
If you're ever driving through the mountains of Northern California and you feel compelled to stop your car and walk, keep driving. And, I'm begging you, turn off your radio.

I only really thought about this today, but I realized that Joey is canonically the best duelist of the Battle City Finalists. He may not have actually won the tournament, but it really looks like he would have won in the end.
The Final 4 were Marik, Yugi, Kaiba, and Joey.
Narratively speaking, it was said that The Winged Dragon of Ra was the Strongest of the 3 Egyptian God Cards, so Yugi and Kaiba wanted to fight one another before facing Marik in order to have 2 Egyptian Gods to fight against Ra. This implies that Marik is thought to be the strongest since it would take both of the next two strongest competitors best cards combined in order to out match him.
Yugi gets matched up with Kaiba while Marik is set to fight Joey. In terms of strategy and overall dueling tactics and regular rules, Joey should have won that duel. He was literally less than a single turn away from winning the game and was only beaten because he was being attacked by magic and ha nothing to defend himself with. Yugi has his Puzzle and the Pharoh, Marik has his lineage and the Rod, Kaiba has his whole reincarnation thing, and each of them had an Egyptian God Card, but Joey is just an average guy with no special powers of his own, no special items he can utilize, and no legendary God cards to fight back with. Despite all of that he practically won the duel anyway.
Yugi then beats Kaiba and faces off against Marik now using 2 Egyptian God Cards against Marik's 1. Yugi barely gets a win over Marik and then claims all three Egyptian God Cards for himself.
In the anime there was a duel between Joey and Kaiba where Kaiba won, however this was actually a filler fight that never officially happened and thus was meant to keep the alleged status quo. Kaiba is meant to be Yugi's #1 Rival and Joey is supposed to be an under dog, so the filler had Kaiba win.
After the tournament it is highly implied that Joey goes on to beat Yugi in a fair duel in order to win back his Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Since Yugi has already offered it back to Joey before and Joey stuck to his gut about needing to earn it back, I can't imagine Joey getting it back any other way than the two of them fighting it out to the best of their abilities and Joey winning. Joey does have his Red-Eyes back afterwards, thus Joey beat Yugi.
So if we add up all of this information we have this sort of power scaling:
And I cannot stress the fact enough, Joey practically did beat the man that both Yugi and Kaiba were scared to fight and only thought that they would just have a chance against if they had 2 Egyptian God Cards in their arsenal, all while Joey had none and didn't even bring his own ace, Red Eyes, to the fight.
Just imagine if Yugi fought Marik without his Dark Magician and Slifer the Sky Dragon, or if Kaiba fought without his Blue Eyes White Dragon and his Obelisk the Tormentor. They wouldn't have stood much of a chance at all at that point in the series based off of how they faired against each opponent with their best cards.
TLDR: Joey beat Marik despite having every disadvantage while Yugi and Kaiba both knew they would lose to Marik if they didn't have at LEAST 2 Egyptian God Cards even though Joey didn't even have 1 or his Ace, Red Eyes. And even after Yugi had powered up his deck to have 3 Egyptian Gods, Joey still beat him right after the tournament (still without his Red Eyes).

This story involved a friend of a friend. Back in the 90´s we had to move to another city because of my father’s job. Our new home was a small apartment composed of a long room that covered both the living and dining room, besides it, there was a kitchen that would have a washing room. Two bedrooms were at the end of this dining- living and in between those rooms, a small place that happened to be the bathroom as well.
The apartment was part of a building composed of 3 floors, a ground level and a rooftop where families would dry up the laundry. Each floor and the ground level had four apartments that were communicated through a hallway and stairs to Access the other floors. Something nice about the layout of these hallways was that they had an opening to see outside and allow natural sunlight to illuminate the building inside, because trust me, this edification really needed all the light you could get.
The building was part of a complex of six buildings, a small ballroom and plenty playground for a 10 year old kid like me. While my social skills weren’t good to make friends, the common interest of riding bicycle around the block helped me to get close to the locals Arthur, Alex and Rick. I started chatting with them outside the bike ride and soon enough, we became friends and began to chat about all sorts of things.
There is a Golden rule: No matter where you go or what you do, you will find a “Haunted” something. My school was haunted, the place where I went to piano lessons was haunted, the hospital where I got my shots was haunted, my favorite pizza place was haunted and sure enough, my neighborhood was haunted, more specifically, a building was haunted.
–Building E-004 is haunted– Arthur told me once.
–It is true, I have seen it– Rick confirmed.
I stared at them in disbelief, simply because Arthur and Rick are brothers so my first thought was “They want to trick me and play a joke on me”
Alex arrived a month before me, so he was as skeptical on the matter as me because it sounded so lame. The slide on the outer part of the neighborhood? Sure. The cabin that once worked as a check point to control Access to the neighborhood? Maybe (it truly had an eerie aspect with the boarded Window and pitch black interior). The ballroom? Perhaps. A haunted apartment? I guess. But a whole building? Ridiculous!
–Nobody lives inside it, all the apartments inside it are abandoned–

At 8 a couple of neighbors told me about a haunted house at the end of the Cliff, nobody lived there but lights would turn on during the night, then it turned out to be a holiday house for a family that would go there on vacation every now and then, they even had a pretty daughter!.
–Oh really? The building where every single window has a clean curtain? Oooh, scary–Alex mocked the brothers and I agreed.
–I swear– Rick said– nobody comes in or out of the building.
–So what? That doesn’t make it a haunted place– I sputtered.
–Wait, the thing is, nobody goes in or out of the building BUT, there is a shadow that appears from time to time–
–When? – Alex asked with a cold tone, almost as if he was some sort of inquisitor trying to squeeze the truth out of the poor bastard
–Nobody knows, it can be early in the morning, mid-afternoon or late at night. I have only seen it once–
Maybe it was the fact that the light started to fade as the time of the day slipped away during this conversation or perhaps it was that the atmosphere started to get creepy because of the silence and the serious tone of the boy, but I remember those words appeared too sound to be ignored, almost as if I should keep them present on my mind all the time.
–A shadow? Wow that makes sense and now I believe you– Alex said with a tone of sarcasm that was unnatural for a kid– it could be anything. And even if it’s a shadow, what would that mean for anyone? Does it appear under your bed? Will it kill you during a shower while you wash your hair and close your eyes? No one has ever died because of a shadow–
–It’s not just the shadow, it has no power elsewhere, only in the building–
Alex started to laugh at Rick more and more, the jokes slowly turned into mockery and it ended in contempt and insults to Rick’s intelligence.
–Shut up! – Arthur intervened– Leave him be, he is telling the true and there is nothing you can say to prove him wrong–
–See? That is the problem, how can it be true if only HE was able to see the shadow, let’s get in the building and find out, what do you think? – Alex punched my shoulder, more as a mean to draw my attention than as an aggression.

–DON’T! That’s would be your last mistake. The shadow has all his strength inside the building and will kill you. It lurks everywhere inside it. The story gained my curiosity and so, I decided to check the building as much as I could. The first thing I noticed was that the access to this place was impossible, you could only get in the building through the main door. All buildings had this open space on hallways on each floor, and I could climb to the first floor through a trick that involved a pipe behind most buildings. E- 004 had Windows that prevented this trick. The only times I could watch the building was during the afternoon when I returned from junior high, after dinner when I went out with my friends and before getting home after playing with my companions. During a year I never saw a shadow, nor a person get in the building (which was truly unusual, as I watched people get into the rest of the buildings every now and then).
As time passed by I lost interest in the scary story and after two years, Edgar moved to a building inside the neighborhood. I hated Edgar, he was cocky, annoying and always tried to get on my nerves by provoking me. Sadly, everyone else became friends with the little idiot and I had to tolerate him whenever we were out playing. And, when he was close enough to the brothers, they told him about E-004.
– “It is haunted” –
–Shut up, you might scare this guy– pointing at me.
My blood boiled as I knew that he was teasing me to show off with everyone else –I didn’t got scared the first time I Heard that , nor I got scared when I saw the shadow– I lied.
Rick, Alex and Arthur turned their faces to me and with eyes opened due the surprising statement, they started asking
–When? –
–Was it moving? –
–Are you lying? –
I panicked, to be honest I only wanted to shut Edgar’s mouth but didn’t expect the reaction of everyone else, so I had to lie a Little more.
–I started watching the building after you guys told me the story, and around Halloween I saw the shadow, just after I was getting home from hanging with you guys–
–Did it move? –
–Where was it? –
Arthur and Alex started the questioning relentlessly.
I have to admit that the attention was nice, they looked to me as if I was some kind of hero –It was just there, on apartment 301, I saw it on the window, but I could only see what the curtain allowed me to see. Then it disappeared for a minute and appeared on another window, but I couldn’t see any other movement–
–Did it saw you? – Rick asked
–I don’t think so, I was hiding and peeking. –

–You can’t, I checked the building and the only entrance is the main door, the windows have no opening to climb nor there is another spot to get in, I tried on the ground level but even there all the spaces are shut–
Edgar was someone strange, I don’t know how or why he knew this but it turned out he could pick locks so he could get us inside the building. We decided to raid E-004 on Halloween, which was three weeks from that time.
When the day came I was scared, I grabbed an ornamental steel sword I had and wore a ninja mask I bought on a carnival, hoping that would defend me from whatever we would find inside the building. As the hour got close I went out secretly and at ten in the night, I joined my friends. Edgar mocked my ninja mask but I ignored him, I was too nervous.
Edgar used some tools to open the door, I didn’t expect him to be so silent, but he made no noise at all and then we finally got inside building E-004. It was a strange feeling, like a transition ritual that caused little kids turn into grownups. My first action inside the building was check if I could get inside apartment 001, the door was unlocked so I was able to get inside the place but got stopped by my group. An eerie aroma came out the place.
–Stop, can you hear that? –
There was a faint noise that didn’t belong. I lived in that neighborhood for 3 years and knew the normal sounds of the place, so that noise was unfamiliar, and odd.
–Hush, it comes from up there– Arthur said.
–I’m out– Rick said, he was trembling scared and was clear this was above his endurance. So, he left the building as silent as we entered it.
The rest of us sneaked up to the roof slowly but surely, my heart started to race faster than ever before. I was scared, probably as spooked as Rick but I couldn’t leave the place, Edgar would mock me and somehow, it seemed like the most important thing in the world was to prove I wasn’t a coward.
When we reached the rooftop the noise was rather clear, it was a person chanting something that I couldn’t understand. The inside of the building looked totally different, instead of plastered boring concrete walls, there were symbols, candles and skulls, that’s when I broke.
–Hold, let’s get out of here! – I said, my voice was trembling and my hands shaking of fear.
–I knew you were a coward– Edgar said, his smile was wicked, like he had so much power and was about to use it to destroy me.
–I’m not, but this is weird, a shadow it’s something but that sounds like humans, we might get in trouble–
–Hush idiots! The will hear us– Arthur whispered.
–Scared baby, you are a scared baby! – Edgar started to sing, the volume of his voice got out of control and the chant stopped.
–Someone got in! – A voice muttered.
–Go get whoever got in– another person answered
–RUN! – Alex said, and the four of us started running as fast as we could.
I could heard the other steps, it sounded like they were around three guys, but we weren’t planning to stay and find out. We had a great advantage, a trick that involved jumping half the stair that would give us runts an advantage, but the average adult couldn’t do it because there was a small wall-like gap that would hit the person’s head, so when we reached the exit, we could see that one of the man was peeking from the first floor.
–They are going to E-003– the man screamed.
–Spread out! – Arthur ordered.
Now I was a dumb kid, but not as dumb as to guide these guys to my house. So I had a plan. Building E-006 had a faulty door, so I didn’t need a key to get in and I could use my trick of climbing the gas pipe to go behind the building and jump the outside fence limiting the neighborhood, grab a bus and get elsewhere. I could pick a taxi and make a couple calls to some friends. Maybe someone could pick me, maybe not, but at least I would get far from these weirdoes. There was an issue with this plan, however.
–I’m not letting you inside my house– Edgar screamed at me.
–I don’t want to go to your stupid house bozo–
We were both running, but since I was taller than Edgar, I could run faster. As I sprinted first into the building I turned the lights out, to act as a cover. Edgar however thought that it was right to try and lock the door with his key. I followed my plan, and went out through the space on the first floor and climbed down to the back of the building, jumped the fence and sprinted for a bus. I knew I could catch a bus because the avenue was one of the main roads in the city and transportation was both frequent and had variety of routes. When I boarded the bus I crawled most of the steps trying to stay out of sight, got to the end of the bus and sat down. I peeked out of the window and what I saw still haunts me. A man in black grabbing Edgar shutting his mouth and struggling with him, hiding besides the building. A person in front of the building was standing looking around but static, probably because he heard the struggle between the hiding characters. Now, I really hated Edgar, but I’m not a heartless douche so I had to do something, but what? For starters I was moving and not close enough to say all the message, getting down the bus was too dangerous so that was off the question. In the end the only thing that came to my mind in the split second was to shout “OVER HERE”, trying to hide inside the bus.
And so I did, after shouting hoping for the best I kept with my plan, got to a hostel downtown, and called my parents from there. I explained them everything and after they ensured that I was ok they started to act properly.
–Young man, when you get home, you will be grounded for the rest of your life. Your father will pick you up and you both will go to the police station and you will tell the officers every single thing you just told me–
I could let you know what happened after this, but my story is already too long, so I will write this in short. Edgar disappeared. The police raided the building and found nothing and no one. We were told that it was our imagination and probably Edgar got in trouble with someone and the story ended.
A year after this, I moved out to another place and never looked back until last week, when I met Alex.
–My man! Long time no see, how have you been?– his greeting was so warm I had to stay and chat with him for a while. We spoke of all sort of things like family, love, careers and new homes. Then we started to speak about a subject we surely never left away.
–Terrible thing what happened to Edgar– he started.
–I mean, the worst part is that he simply banished–
–Ah yes, he "vanished"–sputtered as sarcastic as ever.
–Like, did they ever found the kidnapers? Police said they didn't found a thing–
–Oh, you really don't know?– Alex opened his eyes in disbelief and stared at me– Police did found something. The building belonged to a rich nuthouse who directed a cult. They committed mass suicide years before we got there and the building was full of corpses, four guys were in charge of keeping the corpses from rotting by spraying alcohol or something that would keep bacteria from growing. They believed that a creature would come from hell, eat all the corpses and grant them and the leader powers beyond comprehension to rule the world or whatever. Edgar was the last victim of these asshats. None of the individuals was caught but they were tracked because the owner of the building was the rich guy and he had four associates that were always close by. The building had a secret entrance behind, you know, where we climbed. Instead of the water tank that was on any other building inside the neighborhood, there was a tunnel that would communicate the exterior to the inside of the building. That was the way in which no one was seen get inside. The shadow that Rick saw, probably was one of the cult mad men keeping the apartments corpses in shape and they moved through the fire escape to any apartment, so nobody was seen in the hallway and because the rooftop was entirely covered, they could do and say whatever they want. I guess the governor really covered everything because one of the four guys is his nephew–
We kept talking for an hour or so, but I was already absent. it all made sense. As the night came and I prepared myself to lay on bed, a familiar visitor presented.
–Good to see you again, bozo–
A shadow in the corner of my room was pointing at me, our eyes crossed paths as I finally understood that the entity I kept seeing all these years was the kid that didn't ran away from the cult and now haunts my life non stop.

We were told that it was our imagination and probably Edgar got in trouble with someone and the story ended.
A year after this, I moved out to another place and never looked back until last week, when I met Alex.
–My man! Long time no see, how have you been?– his greeting was so warm I had to stay and chat with him for a while. We spoke of all sort of things like family, love, careers and new homes. Then we started to speak about a subject we surely never left away.
–Terrible thing what happened to Edgar– he started.
–I mean, the worst part is that he simply banished–
–Ah yes, he "vanished"–sputtered as sarcastic as ever.
–Like, did they ever found the kidnapers? Police said they didn't found a thing–
–Oh, you really don't know?– Alex opened his eyes in disbelief and stared at me– Police did found something. The building belonged to a rich nuthouse who directed a cult. They committed mass suicide years before we got there and the building was full of corpses, four guys were in charge of keeping the corpses from rotting by spraying alcohol or something that would keep bacteria from growing. They believed that a creature would come from hell, eat all the corpses and grant them and the leader powers beyond comprehension to rule the world or whatever. Edgar was the last victim of these asshats. None of the individuals was caught but they were tracked because the owner of the building was the rich guy and he had four associates that were always close by. The building had a secret entrance behind, you know, where we climbed. Instead of the water tank that was on any other building inside the neighborhood, there was a tunnel that would communicate the exterior to the inside of the building. That was the way in which no one was seen get inside. The shadow that Rick saw, probably was one of the cult mad men keeping the apartments corpses in shape and they moved through the fire escape to any apartment, so nobody was seen in the hallway and because the rooftop was entirely covered, they could do and say whatever they want. I guess the governor really covered everything because one of the four guys is his nephew–
We kept talking for an hour or so, but I was already absent. it all made sense. As the night came and I prepared myself to lay on bed, a familiar visitor presented.
–Good to see you again, bozo–
A shadow in the corner of my room was pointing at me, our eyes crossed paths as I finally understood that the entity I kept seeing all these years was the kid that didn't ran away from the cult and now haunts my life non stop.

When I was 11 my parents got Netflix and one of the shows on Netflix I used to watch a lot was my strange addictions. There was a woman who was addicted to increasing the size of her breasts. Well I looked this woman up on my iPod touch to see what she looked like in real life or see if she had social media when my search took me to a pinup woman’s page. For the next three hours or so I was surfing the pinups page as well as all the pages associated with it. But I never saw any sort of porn site with sex or anything. I would typically look at this on my iPod everyday until was about 13 when I just straight googled one of the pinups and it took me to the black and orange site.
I was in for it there. I would always find excuses to be in my room to look at the porn. I mean I spent hours surfing just seeing what I could find, what I liked and what I wanted to watch. This led to fapping 3-4 times a day. After awhile it slowed down but still I would go on the website everyday with no hesitation. In high school I remember talking with my friends and being shocked when they would say they they didn’t look at porn all that often which I thought was the craziest thing or the biggest lie because of how much I looked at it.
I used to keep track when I was a sophomore in high school how much I fapped, when I saw that I was sometimes doing 3-4 times a day multiple times a week and my average was twice a day I was a little disgraced with myself but I was convinced this was a normal teenage thing to do.
Throughout high school I had a couple long term girlfriends but when I went to college we broke up. I shared a dorm with a roommate so it wasn’t as easy to watch porn or fap and I think it helped me a lot until I found a time at night when the bathroom i shared with about 6 other guys would be empty. Then I got into going in, fapping and coming out. Most of this time it wasn’t porn nearly as much as it used to be. It was usually girls naked pictures I had been sent.
When I was a sophomore in college I moved into a house where I had my own bedroom. This is when the problem really ramped up. I was chasing the satisfaction, I found the NSFW side of Reddit and did meetups with people in my area or around the area. I noticed I couldn’t sleep unless I fapped and so I was back up to 1-3 times a day. The summer going into my junior year I had injured myself and was laid up so I wasn’t in a good mental state and since there was much I could do I watched porn and fapped a lot.
Around the end of my junior year of college was when I started to notice my sexual performance going down. I wasn’t lasting as long as I used to (often times lasting no more than a couple minutes), it would take a lot more for me to get hard or I would go soft when I was inbetween positions. I mean in the ten seconds it would take to change positions I would go from full wood to a semi if I was lucky. After a few times of this happening I said maybe if I slowed down on my porn use I wouldn’t have a problem. That’s when I noticed that I couldn’t stop. It was extremely hard for me to not look at porn.
I then found this subreddit and have been actively trying to stop this problem. And I’m hoping 23 is the year that I can slow way down on the porn watching and have as few relapses as possible.
I do a lot of self reflection. The things I did to chase this problem, The places I’ve fapped because the urge hit me, what I’ve watched, stuff like that. None of this I’m proud of but I’m trying to be a better person for myself and I hope I can do it this year.

So a bit about me I suppose:
- I'm 6'0", average/chubby build, short dark brown hair, and brown eyes.
- My ethnicity is Black, Native American, and Puerto Rican. Mostly Black and Native American.
- I game a lot in my spare time. I've got a huge variety when it comes to my taste in video games too. Gaming is a part of my life so I do appreciate my time to myself. But I'll never neglect anyone over it.

On to the event that took place, I live with my parents and they always had a good relationship with him, he's my best friend and we are very very close, basically brothers. Awhile back he was going to be having his apartment sprayed down with some kind of strong chemical that wasn't safe for the animals to be around, so he asked if we would take the animals for awhile, estimating it would be about a day, since it was supposed to happen the next day. My parents said yes and he brought them over that night, then I went to work in the morning, and I get a text from him saying my mom is telling him he has to come get the animals ASAP. I was kind of flabbergasted so I texted my mom telling her that he has nowhere else for the animals to go on such short notice and they couldn't be in the apartment, her response was "he'll just have to figure it out." I was gobsmacked, the sweet caring mom I knew would never be that cold and dismissive to his plight, especially to the plight of animals.
One thing you need to know about my mom is that she struggles with chronic fatigue, and at times it can effect the way she responds to situations and events, she's just all maxed out and not thinking clearly. When I got home I found out that the trouble was: his cat had holed up in a cabinet that out cats normally use to sleep and play, and one of our cats was a little anxious about it and kept bugging my mom while she was trying to sleep. His little terrier had peed on a dog bed, and apparently that was enough for my mom to decide that she was done and he would just have to figure out another solution. I could have brought them into my room and kept them in there, but she wouldn't hear it, I honestly could not believe how heartless she was being. I warned her that "Colin is going to be very hurt by this" and she yelled "I don't wanna hear that he's gonna be hurt, we hit the 24 hour mark, we've always been good to him, and he just needs to figure it out."

Continued to have these consistent hourly-ish crashes in RDR 2, the Finals, and also in the Cinebench GPU test, which has been the only consistent way to force it to crash that I’ve found (although I've heard of other people having issues with Cinebench, not sure if this is a reliable metric) . Other benchmarks like 3DMark Time Spy run perfectly normally, and have yet to cause a crash. As I mentioned in my previous post, these crashes seemingly uninstall the graphics drivers, and require a restart before they come back. After having these crashes with a second card, I was convinced it must be something else in the PC, and got a friend to bring over his spare PC to test the RMA’d 6800 in, and I have listed those specs above. I swapped the GPU in, and the problem followed the card.

Description of Original Problem: While playing a variety of games two monitors often lose all display and this cannot be regained unless I restart the PC or plug a monitor into the motherboard. After the black screen, when I plug the monitor into the motherboard I check task manager and the GPU is no longer there, and only the iGPU remains. The severity of the issue has varied, with some cases the issue being the PC seemingly uninstalling its own GPU drivers which required a full uninstall with DDU and reinstall before anything can be displayed from the GPU’s DP/HDMI ports. Other instances have just required a full restart before the PC returns to normal. Some cases have also included system fans ramping up when the GPU quits, however this is not always the case. The system was built two months ago, and when running normally, all indicators are stable, with 3DMark returning scores higher than average and temps remaining low. Unfortunately, the issue is inconsistent and only occurs once every 8 or so hours of use, so determining the cause is difficult. There is also no indication of a crash before it happens that I have found, as clock speeds, frequencies, FPS, temps, etc. all seem stable before it dies, although it is hard to know exactly as it happens completely out of the blue. The only other issue of note was some stuttering in Battlefield V that I believe is unrelated and was fixed by editing the DXNAVI registry.
Troubleshooting: So far this is what I have tried to little effect:
Multiple complete uninstall and reinstalls of GPU drivers via DDU, ranging from Adrenalin 22.5.1 to 24.2.1
Reseat GPU multiple times, while checking both 8-pin connectors are fully plugged in (not daisy-chained connectors either)
Multiple BIOS updates as the issue continued on each version
Multiple Chipset driver versions as the issue continued on each version
XMP on/off, SAM on/off
Changes to many Windows settings including power plans, game mode on/off, etc.
Changes to many GPU driver settings like setting minimum frequency, increasing power limits (+15%), 100% fan speed at all times, etc.
Radeon Boost and Enhanced Sync on/off
I am contemplating reinstalling Windows, but before this, I will likely swap my 6800 for a friend’s 6750 XT and see if he or I have any issues and if we can find any conclusions from that. Looking for any further help before I try those other two options.

UPDATE:
Ended up swapping the 6800 for a friend's 6750 XT to see if the issue followed the card, which has left me even more puzzled than before. He wasn't having any issues playing Battlefield V or Rust (the two games which caused the most frequent crashes for me) until we played Helldivers 2, and at that point he couldn't play for more than 5 minutes without a black screen and needing to restart. So after that happened 3-4 times we tried disabling updates through the Group Policy Editor using the hardware IDs with no results, confirmed multiple times. Then we swapped the GPUs back around, and now back on my PC I've yet to have a single crash on Helldivers 2. Not too sure what to make of all of this, and will likely RMA the card on Monday.
