To be honest, I didn't read the dangerous dog part as thoroughly as I should. I think I may be somewhat burnt out on the recklessness and coldness shown by rescuers to others in their willingness to prioritize dangerous or marginal ownerless dogs over beloved pets and over people.
The spay/neuter part, that just galls me. It should gall anyone. This crisis, this hellscape of pit bull overpopulation that exists clearly calls for sterilization of any shelter dog in California. Shrugging off that as a lesser priority than rehoming existing dogs blows the whole deal. Any animal rescue plan that removes, downgrades or fails to prioritize spay/neuter for pit bulls is worthless. It's just a smokescreen, a way to play with puppies and posture as saviors without doing anything to improve the situation. Status quo, nothing to see here, #adoptdontshop.

SUMMARY: Under existing law, it is the policy of the state that no adoptable animal should be euthanized if it can be adopted into a suitable home, as provided.
This bill declares it the policy of the state that no animal be euthanized by a public animal control agency, shelter, or a private entity that contracts with a public animal control agency or shelter for animal care and control services (collectively, “eligible agency”). This bill requires an eligible agency to post, 24 to 72 hours before a scheduled euthanasia of a dog or cat, a daily list of any cat or dog scheduled for euthanasia on its public website or social media page and to post a physical notice on the kennel of a dog or cat scheduled to be euthanized.
This bill requires a public animal control agency or shelter that seeks to adopt a policy, practice, or protocol that may conflict with Hayden’s Law to give notice regarding the policy, practice, or protocol, as specified, and requires the city or county to schedule a public hearing regarding the policy, practice, or protocol.

And the sheer chutzpah of this

Rescuers - we will advocate for violent dogs and fund their owners' fights to keep them from being designated dangerous and harass communities into being extremely afraid of even starting a dangerous dog investigation.
Also rescuers - our new legislation to require more marketing of unadoptable dogs won't include dangerous dogs! Silly! There's no risk to the public!
Although I will say I had no idea that rescuers knew of the existence of the word 'transparency' so good for them. Perhaps this knowledge could be turned inward sometimes?
The CityWatch article
ANIMAL WATCH - An increasing number of reported vicious and fatal dog attacks across California, as reported by the L.A. Times—and worldwide—are ignored by AB 2265 (2024) authored by Assembly Member Kevin McCarthy and introduced in the CA Assembly—and, instead, it prohibits euthanasia of any dangerous animals, including dogs impounded in shelters for violent behavior.
AB 2265, (which has so far been amended twice, the latest change being when it was introduced in the Assembly on 3/18/2024) wants California legislators to assure that NO dog (or other aggressive animal) in a shelter can be euthanized, other than if it is irremediably suffering, regardless of its violent or even deadly behavioral history. However, it is the goal and purpose of shelters to place as many animals as possible directly into homes with families.
This bill went far beyond the purpose of the 1998 Hayden bill which had the intent to restrict euthanasia of healthy and adoptable animals.
No one with knowledge of the devastating outcome of attacks by currently popular Pit Bulls, XL and XXL Bullys, now banned in the UK, Wales, Scotland and India, along with other aggressive breeds, nor anyone who has been the victim of any vicious dog attack, could plausibly agree that this risk should be encouraged or can be afforded by the State of California or any governmental jurisdiction.
So far, it appears other legislators are skeptical of this bill. The only positive change with which some CA animal control agencies and legislators have expressed mutual agreement is the increase in spay/neuter deposits for dogs and cats being raised to $200 to match the much higher rates for surgical sterilization in today’s economy.
A CLOSER LOOK AT AB 2265
In the past few weeks we have seen countries such as England, Wales, Scotland and India joining those which ban Pit Bull, XL and XXL Bullys and other dangerous dogs in order to stop the trafficking of dangerous breeds, provide safety for communities and stop the horrific attacks and deaths of innocent children and adults whose lives are ended by other people’s “protection dogs” or “rescued” pets with a known history of violent behavior.
AB 2265 – A RISK CALIFORNIA CANNOT TAKE
There is value in telling the truth about dog behavior and the greatest is in public and personal safety. What weird whim—other than personal aggrandizement or a strong campaign supporter—would cause Senator McCarthy to encourage ignoring violent past history and risk human and animal lives on a gamble that a dog with a known history of unprovoked aggression will suddenly act differently?
If we want canines to continue to be known as man’s (or woman’s) best friends, we need—just as we do with humans—to assure they have earned that trust by not misusing their innate strength and survival skills to harm those who trust and love them.
CHANGING THE STATE’S EUTHANASIA GOAL
This bill, AB 2265, introduced on February 8, 2024, drastically changes the State’s animal shelter euthanasia goal—from ending euthanasia of adoptable animals to ending euthanasia of any animal. That includes vicious dogs, wild and/or dangerous animals, prohibited animals and regulated animals.
This would create chaotic danger for adopters and pet owners and innocent residents/neighbors throughout California, while ALSO negatively and disastrously affecting the insurance and veterinary industries, according to experts.
The only exceptions in the bill that allow a dangerous animal to be euthanized are very narrow categories for medical and behavior issues:
1) those that are irremediably suffering, which is defined as those for which “severe, unremitting physical pain” cannot be relieved by any medical means without regard to cost or local availability of that level of care; and
2) Those that have been declared “vicious” under the State’s regulatory scheme, which few agencies use, and which assumes that a hearing was held after an owner contested that declaration.
According to Fast Track Democracy, “Existing law prohibits animals that are irremediably suffering from a serious illness or severe injury from being held for owner redemption or adoption. This bill would instead declare it the policy of the state that no animal be euthanized by a public animal control agency or shelter or a private entity that contracts with a public animal control agency or shelter for animal care and control services, except as provided.”
“Existing law prohibits a stray dog or cat impounded by a public or private shelter from being euthanized before 6 business days after the stray dog or cat is impounded, not including the day of impoundment, and requires that the stray dog or cat, except those irremediably suffering, be released to a nonprofit animal rescue or adoption organization before the scheduled euthanasia of the stray dog or cat if requested by the organization, as specified.” The analysis summarizes the Bill (see Fast Track Democracy).
Existing law prohibits a stray dog or cat impounded by a public or private shelter from being euthanized before 6 business days after the stray dog or cat is impounded, not including the day of impoundment, and requires that the stray dog or cat, except those irremediably suffering, be released to a nonprofit animal rescue or adoption organization before the scheduled euthanasia of the stray dog or cat if requested by the organization, as specified.
WARNINGS ABOUT THIS ‘NO KILL’ PLAN FOR DANGEROUS DOGS
A California animal-control specialist offered the following thoughts based on his personal and professional experience.
(The following is not to be taken as legal advice, but merely as guidance in further considering some issues that appear to not have been considered in pursuing these severe changes to animal sheltering under existing California laws and practices.)
“This Bill would absolutely eviscerate Food and Agricultural Code Section 31683, which allows counties and cities to have their own regulatory process for dangerous dogs, and it would force everyone to use the very-flawed State process.”
AND he summarized that:
  • This bill eliminates the limitation by the 1998 Hayden-Bill mandate and requires shelters to advertise for release even those dogs that have mauled or killed a person, and forces animal control agencies (government and humane societies with animal control contracts) to announce the pending euthanasia of any of these dogs to “rescues,” so they can take them, often placing them in unsuspecting homes.
  • Even if the bill does not require that owner-relinquished dogs that are too vicious for placement even with a rescue be released to anyone who asks for it, the mere requirement that they be advertised creates unnecessary conflict and invites protest and even litigation over the decision not to release them.
  • What is a “qualified” nonprofit animal rescue or adoption organization? The term “qualified” is not defined in the bill. In light of an appellate court interpretation of the Hayden mandate to release stray dogs facing euthanasia to a “qualified” rescue, it is vital to have that defined. If “qualified” means any corporation that has obtained its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status—which is what many will assume—then animal control will have no way to ensure that the most vicious dogs are not placed in “foster” in unsuspecting neighborhoods by people who have no idea how dangerous they are.
  • Why must it be a nonprofit organization? This bill defines an animal rescue organization to include for-profit corporations. So why are they excluded from this Bill? A nonprofit organization can pay a high number of “employees” very exorbitant salaries. A nonprofit business model is no guarantee that more of the organization’s budget will go to help animals than other business models.
  • This Bill targets only municipal shelters and humane societies that have government contracts to provide animal control services. Those are the only organizations that cannot fully control their intake, and on which there are mandates to admit animals. They are the very organizations that most need the ability to engage in euthanasia for legitimate health and safety reasons, and for which the greatest levels of leniency and understanding are justified. Yet, any other organization can euthanize healthy, adoptable animals with impunity.
Although there are many other factors considered in the analysis, this article is intended merely to present some of the dangers of creating laws and policies at any legislative level without having a thorough analysis and discussion with leaders in the field of animal control and sheltering. There is information at the end of this article if anyone wishes to read more of this analysis.
FUNDRAISING – THE POWER OF THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR
There is no better way to reach the wallets of animal lovers than through their heart strings, and sadly millions of dollars are going into pockets of executives in organizations that do not directly care for or protect animals and, of course, nothing speaks louder than donations at the lobbying and legislative level.
But, the needs of homeless animals should not be creating slush funds for campaigns nor playing on the emotions of those who are continually confronted by TV commercials and mailers, saying that just a few more dollars will save them all.
There are also human lives and safety to be considered and this is a primary responsibility of animal shelters and humane societies. It is important that they are asked what will help them do this thankless and seemingly hopeless job.
Pets are too often obtained as a short-term experience with little commitment and then abandoned within or outside these facilities that do not benefit from the money that is raised by large organizations or politicians ostensibly to help them.
Instead, these promises set unreachable goals and promote “feel-good” programs that overburden their staffing and emotions, without asking what they need to do this very difficult job from a realistic perspective.
THE BEST INDICATOR OF AN ANIMAL’S FUTURE BEHAVIOR IS ITS PAST
Not all animals are adoptable, nor should they be placed in homes where they are likely to harm, or be harmed because certain behavior is endemic to the breed. The AKC thrives on the fact that bloodlines of dogs determine or influence their predictable behavior.
Why is it this is so clear that it causes millions of people to buy purebreds for certain reasons; yet, animal shelters are expected to take in dogs with documented histories of anti-social behavior and attacks and rehome them with promises they will be “good family members” just to keep them alive?
LISTEN BEFORE VOTING, SACRAMENTO
Legislators need to listen to experts in animal control—not self-appointed voices for animals—many of whom have never worked in a shelter, before even considering new legislation.
They also need to ask their own community, “Do you feel safe from dog attacks? And/or “have you been a victim of an attack or live in fear of neighborhood animals?” They may be surprised at the number of injuries that have been suffered but didn’t make the press and how many victims may have permanent, life-limiting, disabilities for which they were never compensated.
Assembly Member McCarthy needs to walk through animal shelters in his district and ask those who work there or have been long-term volunteers, and those who take the responsibility for determining policies and the endless, sad challenges of management, “what will help you help them?”
DON’T WAIT FOR AN IRREVERSIBLE TRAGEDY
California has been very liberal (or very foolish) in allowing dogs known to have a history of aggression to be removed from shelters for adoption, but lawsuits and tragic, injuries or deaths of innocent victims have imposed limitations as to what can be tolerated philosophically and financially.
The safety of the dog itself must also be a consideration. People understandably react violently to dog attacks, using any weapon to inflict sufficient injury to stop the dog and save their own or another’s life.
Euthanasia can be the most humane option when it is indicated or determined that the animal poses a consistent threat to humans or animals in general, or poses a recurrent uncontrollable risk to the public’s and its own safety.

Well, my experience with this Dorman Emergency Door Unlock Tool has been quite an adventure, let me tell you. I mean, I've always been a bit of a worrier, especially when it comes to my car door. I've had my fair share of lockouts, and it's never a good time. But this little tool, it's changed everything!
First off, I love how versatile it is. I can reshape it to fit the thickness of my door and the location of the lock. It's like it's tailor-made just for me, and my car! Plus, it comes with a nice vinyl hand grip. It makes it so much easier to use. It's like holding onto a friendly, familiar face in a moment of pure panic.
Another great thing about this tool is that it's portable. It folds up so neatly, like a little origami masterpiece. It fits perfectly in my pocket, purse, or any other compartment I can find. It's like having a magic trick up my sleeve, always ready to save the day.
But, let's be real, no product is perfect. I have to admit, this tool can sometimes be a bit of a troublemaker. It's not always as smooth as I'd like it to be. There have been a few times when it's stuck in the narrow space between the door and the weather stripping. It's kind of like trying to force a square peg into a round hole, you know? It can be a bit frustrating.
However, on the bright side, I've found that by taking a little extra time and being patient, I can usually get it to work. And when it does, it's such a relief! It's like a personal victory, and it makes me feel so smart and resourceful.
So, would I recommend this product? Absolutely! It's not perfect, but it's worked wonders for me. It's like having a little insurance policy tucked away in my pocket, always there to help me out when I need it most. I'm just glad I stumbled upon it.

🔗Lock Technology 4-Piece Easy Access Folding Door Opening Kit

I recently discovered the Lock Technology 145 Easy Access Folding Door Opening Kit, and it has become an indispensable tool for unlocking my car doors. This compact device is a true lifesaver when I've locked my keys inside or when I need to access the trunk in a hurry.
The highlights that caught my attention are the screws that don't require a coupler, which have made it incredibly easy to use. Plus, the collapsible design allows for easy storage in my glove compartment. Another great feature is the presence of a middle extension piece that covers the entire car and can be used for long reach applications. The shorter tip is perfect for accessing lock buttons, while the glowing tips on models 135-2B and 135-2C are an excellent innovation for nighttime use.
One downside I experienced was the need for more precise angle adjustments when trying to unlock my car doors. While the rigid design facilitated easier access through the window, it could be trickier for those with less experience or unsteady hands. Other than that minor inconvenience, this door opening kit has been a game changer for me.
So, if you're someone who often finds themselves in need of a last-minute or after-hours unlock solution, I highly recommend giving the Lock Technology 145 Easy Access Folding Door Opening Kit a try. You won't be disappointed!

Imagine locking your keys in your car. It's a frustrating and stressful situation, but with the Universal Lockout Tool, you can save yourself some time and money. This ingenious tool works with most American cars, as well as some international brands such as Audi, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
The best part? It's made of sturdy metal, giving you the confidence to use it without worrying about damaging your vehicle. It measures about 5/8" x 22", making it compact enough to carry around in your glove compartment or tool kit.
While some users have had issues with its thinness and flexibility, many professionals find it a decent entry-level tool for those occasional lockouts. Plus, at its affordable price, it's definitely worth considering as an insurance policy against those unexpected key-locking mishaps.
But remember, practice makes perfect. Always read the directions included on the back of the package and familiarize yourself with the tool before attempting to use it on your car. With some patience and a bit of finesse, you'll be able to unlock your vehicle in no time!

🔗Geevorks Power Door Lock Actuator 12V

https://preview.redd.it/muh2e2z7ob1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d19305a1e6ea49f50436e7ed756977e30c865fab
As a car enthusiast, I was excited to try out the Geevorks 12V door lock actuator. This kit made upgrading my old manual door locks to automatic ones a breeze! The installation was relatively easy, and the product included everything from door lock actuators to remote controls. The remote controls allowed me to lock and unlock my car from a distance, giving me peace of mind when I step away from my vehicle.
One of the main highlights for me was the trunk release button, adding an extra layer of convenience when I need to access my trunk. Additionally, the door lock actuator can be used in remote control and alarm systems, making it a versatile product for various car security needs.
On the downside, the remote control distance could be improved. In some cases, I experienced a weaker signal which made locking or unlocking the car from a distance less reliable. Despite this minor inconvenience, overall, the Geevorks door lock actuator has made my driving experience more secure and convenient.

🔗Car Door Unlock Tool with Vinyl Grip

https://preview.redd.it/c6x7rm58ob1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=803f575bfc977f1e89d1fc88355828684cde5c1a
Dorman's Emergency Door Unlock Tool is a handy little gadget that can save your day if you accidentally lock your keys inside your car. Imagine the relief of unlocking your car door within seconds using the slim design of this tool, which can be easily folded to fit in your pocket, purse or other compartments. The vinyl hand grip makes it comfortable and easy to use even in tight spaces.
However, there are some downsides to consider. Some users found it difficult to get the tool past the window seal and mentioned it folds up easily during use. It may not work effectively for all types of car doors due to their varying thickness and lock locations.
Overall, this tool can be quite useful for those who occasionally find themselves locked out of their vehicle. But be aware that it might require some practice or patience to get it right depending on your particular car model. So, if you're looking for a quick solution to this common mishap, Dorman's Emergency Door Unlock Tool could be worth a shot.

🔗Universal 10-Piece Vehicle Unlock Tool Kit

https://preview.redd.it/s6357qm8ob1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a98a6022487db229e198a018819a6715ec59de81
I recently had an unfortunate experience where I locked myself out of my car. Panicking, I remembered the Universal 10-Piece Vehicle Unlock Tool Kit I'd heard about. Its assorted tools and convenient pouch seemed perfect for this situation. Upon pulling it out of the bag, I was immediately disappointed by the poor instructions. The metal tools felt flimsier than anticipated, bending on the first attempt. However, the variety of tools allowed me to eventually unlock my car door, although not without a fight. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend, but it did save me from an expensive professional service.
The tool kit is compact and easy to carry, making it a handy emergency tool for drivers. The metal tools are versatile, catering to different vehicle models. The convenient pouch is spacious enough to hold all the tools. However, the build quality of the tools is disappointing, as they seem to bend easily under pressure. Overall, it's a useful tool kit for occasional use, but don't expect it to last a lifetime.

🔗Unlock Your Car Door with Ease: LTI135 2-Piece Easy Access ToolKit

https://preview.redd.it/tw4kx129ob1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99dbc9a67e834fef37c0f4356ab77c6c6aeadaad
I recently used the Lock Technology Easy Access Door Unlocking Tool Kit 135 in a tricky situation where I locked myself out of my car. To my relief, this 2-piece tool easily collapsed for convenient storage and extended to reach the car's windows. The whale tail tip design worked like a charm on the lock surfaces, making it a breeze to unlock my car door. Plus, the included plastic slip jim and door wedges provided extra support.
However, despite the overall positive experience, I did face a minor issue with this kit. The lack of a highlight feature in the product description made it somewhat challenging to understand the exact specifications of each component. Additionally, the green color of the tool might not appeal to everyone's taste.
In conclusion, the Lock Technology Easy Access Door Unlocking Tool Kit 135 proved to be a reliable and effective solution for my car lockout predicament. Its collapsible design, whale tail tip, and additional accessories make it a worthwhile investment for those looking to keep a handy tool in their vehicle for emergencies.

🔗Glow-in-the-Dark Car Door Unlocking Tool Kit with Lock Knob Lifter and Paint Protector

As a reviewer who has experienced the joy of retrieving keys from locked cars, I can attest to the life-saving capabilities of the Steck Big Easy Glow with Wedge Lockout Tool Kit. This kit has everything you need to rescue someone from their own forgetfulness or mischief at any hour of the day or night. The glow-in-the-dark yellow hue is not only cool but also incredibly functional, allowing you to see the tool even through tinted windows.
One aspect that really stood out for me was the easy wedge feature. It offers controlled opening of the car door for insertion of the Big Easy Glo, making it incredibly easy to access the inside of the vehicle without causing any damage. Additionally, its non-marring wedge prevents scratches or damages to your car, ensuring your beloved vehicle stays pristine even after a minor lockout incident.
However, despite its many positives, there are a few cons worth noting. The included air wedge seems to be somewhat delicate and may not last as long as other parts of the kit. Also, while the kit is effective on 98% of all cars and trucks, there might be some models or makes that are not compatible with this tool.
In conclusion, if you're someone who often encounters people locked out of their cars, then the Steck Big Easy Glow with Wedge Lockout Tool Kit is definitely worth considering. It's easy to use, effective, and offers an array of useful features that cater to different types of car locks. While it may have some minor drawbacks, overall, it's a reliable tool that can save both time and money when used appropriately.

🔗Visible Pink Door Unlock Kit for Cars

I have been using the Steck Lockout Tool Kit Big Easy for over a year now, and let me tell you, it's been an absolute game-changer. This tool has saved me countless times when I've locked my keys inside the car, much to the amusement of my friends.
One of the first things that stood out was the high visibility pink powder coating on its 55-inch long handle. In the middle of the night or during a snowstorm, finding this pink tool is a breeze compared to the black ones I used before. Plus, the improved non-marring wedge is now wider, longer, and smoother, making it even easier to use in various car models.
While the Big Easy is primarily designed for unlocking car doors, it also features a lock knob lifter, which comes in handy for cars with flat lock knobs at the top of the door. No more trying to improvise with a wire hanger or credit card - the Big Easy does it all.
However, there are a couple of minor drawbacks. Some users might find the storage size of the tool inconvenient, and it would be great if the package included a pump-up air bag for extra versatility.
Overall, the Steck Lockout Tool Kit Big Easy has been a reliable and convenient addition to my toolbox. With its 55-inch long handle and high visibility pink coating, I can quickly and easily unlock any car door without causing damage. If you're someone who frequently misplaces their keys or finds themselves locked out of their vehicle, I highly recommend giving this tool a try.

I recently installed the Biltek Power Car Door Lock and Unlock Kit in my Chevy Colorado, and I must say, it has been a game-changer. Before, I had to manually lock and unlock each door, but now, everything is just a button press away. The package included everything I needed to get started, from the simple diagram to the main module and actuators. Plus, it's compatible with my alarm system, so I can control everything right from my alarm remote.
The standout feature for me is the keyless entry. It's so convenient to hop in the car and just unlock the doors with a push of a button. The only downside I noticed was that the installation process took some time and effort, but once it was done, everything worked seamlessly.
Overall, I highly recommend the Biltek Power Car Door Lock and Unlock Kit to anyone looking to upgrade their vehicle to a central locking system with keyless entry. It's easy to use, reliable, and a great investment for any car owner.

I recently upgraded my car with the Biltek CX-402 Universal Central Door Lock and Unlock Conversion Kit, and I must say it's made a world of difference in terms of convenience. The kit is easy to install, requiring no additional hardware and coming with a clear diagram that guides you through the process.
One of the standout features is its universal compatibility, fitting all known cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans. This has been particularly useful for me, as I often drive different vehicles. The Central locking system provides a state-of-the-art solution, converting manual door locks into a fully functional keyless entry system.
However, there's a downside to this product - the poor-quality wires. The wires were the only problem I encountered during installation, which was quite frustrating. Despite this, the Biltek CX-402 is an overall solid choice for anyone looking to upgrade their vehicle's locking system.

I recently got my hands on this LTI LT-126 Easy Access Tool and boy, has it been a game-changer for me! After suffering countless failed attempts to unlock doors in tight spaces or with tricky locks, this little tool has made things so much easier. The whale tail tip design is pure genius, allowing it to grip the lock more securely and catch it without much effort. Plus, the fact that you can use it with or without the vinyl tips depending on your preference just adds to its versatility.
What I particularly appreciated was how the tool came packaged in a simple yet sturdy custom kraft cardboard box. Not only did it make the whole experience feel more special, but also added an environmental touch which is always a welcome sight.
However, one thing that could have been even better was if the tool had come with some detailed instructions on how best to handle it, especially for first-time users. Nonetheless, once you figure out the right technique, this LTI LT-126 Easy Access Door Tool truly lives up to its name!

As a frequent traveler, I've found the Grip 8pc Lockout Tool Kit to be an absolute lifesaver. Imagine being stuck outside your car on a sweltering day, with no spare key or anyone to help you out. That's where this tool kit comes in. It's got everything you need to unlock your car door in no time.
One of the standout features of this kit is the slim jim bars - they're so thin yet sturdy, you'll wonder how they're able to pry open even the toughest doors. The slim jim bars are backed up by other useful tools like the wire form S hook slide lock tool and the wonder tool. Together, they make sure you're never locked out for long.
On the flip side, I did find the metal parts to be slightly flimsier than I'd hoped. It's not a deal-breaker but it does make me wary of using this kit too frequently. However, for occasional usage or as a backup tool, the Grip 8pc Lockout Tool Kit definitely earns its keep.
In conclusion, this tool kit has proven to be an essential part of my travel gear. It's well-made, easy to use, and offers a range of tools for different types of car doors. So whether you're prone to misplacing your keys or simply want to be prepared for any situation, the Grip 8pc Lockout Tool Kit is a worthwhile investment.

2024.05.19 03:49 Peacock-Shah-III The Committee for the Preservation of the Republic Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

The Committee for the Preservation of the Republic Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections
“We must all hang together or we shall all hang separately.”
Thus quipped Benjamin Franklin as the American colonies joined against the tyranny of George III, the phrase hangs heavy in the imaginations of today’s political opposition. Laden with fears of violence, Chairman Osro Cobb of the Progressive-Federalist National Committee announced the cancellation of the party’s presidential primaries and the formal acquiescence of the party to the Committee for the Preservation of the Republic’s call for a joint presidential nominating convention with the American Liberty League. Yet, with the organization’s President Thomas Schall, once seen as the nearly prohibitive favorite for the nomination, dying in an unforeseen car accident and populist contender Eduardo Chibas taking his own life on live radio, the attempt to unite the opposition must find a candidate able to carry both banners in the face of Philip La Follette’s campaign for a third term.
Clare Boothe Luce speaking against the President's support for a moderate socialist government in Indonesia.
Leading Candidates:
The following candidates are seen as frontrunners for the nomination.
Clare Boothe Luce: 49 year old Clare Boothe Luce of Connecticut rose to prominence as Henry Luce’s scandal-ridden yet massively popular First Lady, whose charisma would lead to a popular joke that every Luce voter wished they had voted for Clare despite widely known allegations of mutual marital infidelity. Marrying Henry after divorcing her first husband and entering high society as the author of an all-female play, Luce would become First Lady at the young age of 38 and soon emerge as a face of the American home front amidst the Third Pacific War. Describing the nation as having become a “dictatorial bumbledom,” Luce has echoed the anti-New State ethos of the party and is seen as the candidate of establishment conservatives. Criticizing the very slogan of President La Follette, she has argued that the United States cannot “win the peace” as it has not truly won the war until the defeat of international communism. Clare has supported the Zionist project in Alaska, a unified military command to replace the Department of Peace, and the creation of a defense pact among American allies in the Pacific as the centerpiece of an aggressively interventionist foreign policy declaring “if we are no longer willing to fight for it, our Christian democracy is finished." Yet, Luce has also opposed the creation of a stronger international United Nations to replace the powerless Parliament of Nations.
Driven to Catholicism in 1946 following the death of her daughter, even as her ex-president husband gallivanted about with a girlfriend a thousand miles from his wife’s baptism, Luce has emerged as a changed woman, reportedly abandoning her affairs and entering a career in electoral politics with her 1946 election to the Senate. Though Aaron Burr Houston maintained a private devotion to the Church of Rome, Clare has taken her faith with a zeal heretofore unseen in American politics, using the Senate as a pulpit to preach against “materialism” and a spiritual decline as the root of both communism and fascism, slyly suggesting that the rise of the Pentecostal, Immannuelite, and Mormon faiths has come hand-in-hand with the nation’s fascist surge as she has publicly wished that “the whole world would be Catholic.” Despite defenses from Presbyterian former President Luce, Clare’s faith has weakened her amongst convention delegates fearing the alienation of firmly Protestant voters. Yet her charm, wealth, and ability to attract millions in funding from backers such as Henry Ford II while winning key endorsements such as that of Richard Nixon has catapulted her to the front of the field.
A candid photo of the nation's leading Texan with a fried chicken dinner. Had you asked an observer in 1940 whether Pappy O'Daniel might one day be President the answer would almost certainly be yes, yet many wonder whether the dynamic country singer has waited past his turn.
W. Lee O’Daniel: 62 year old Senator W. Lee O’Daniel, better known as Pappy, rose to prominence in his late 20s as an architect of domestic policy during Aaron Burr Houston’s third term, being largely credited with the introduction of an old age pension system funded by a consumption tax. After making his way to the fore of Texas politics on his own through the integration of musical numbers and a widely popular radio show with his political antics, O’Daniel would turn from an upset gubernatorial defeat in the 1938 midterms to organizing Aaron Burr Houston’s campaign for a fourth term in the White House as the nation’s last hope against Charles Lindbergh. Accused by critics of puppeteering a dementia ridden 86 year old out of his own lust for power, O’Daniel would serve as Secretary of the Treasury for a year before being unceremoniously removed from the cabinet by Henry Luce for his critique of the American attack on Pearl Harbor and opposition to the draft, leaving him in political isolation as the Texan distinguished himself by demanding the execution of striking laborers as crucial to the war effort over his radio show.
A steadfast isolationist, O’Daniel’s foreign policy views have made him a favorite among Liberty League libertarians. Depicting himself as nearly as conservative as Luce on domestic issues with an isolationist foreign policy able to appeal to the Midwest, O’Daniel has emphasized ties to the legendary ABH and anti-alcohol views he claims can over the rural South. O’Daniel has also sought to use Luce’s Catholicism into an issue, seeking the support of Ben Gitlow through their shared membership in the Evangelical Christian Right. Yet, O’Daniel has been seen as the least committed among the candidates to the Committee’s pro-democracy ideals, while others question his fitness for office based on his eccentric manners as a cabinet Secretary and Senator, with Eleanor B. Roosevelt’s 1936 running mate Dan Moody remarking that “Pappy is as lost at the Treasury as I would be in a circus trapeze.
Lucius D. Clay as an Administrator during the post-war occupation of Korea.
Lucius D. Clay: A distant relative of former President Henry Clay, 54 year old General of the Army turned banker Lucius D. Clay of Georgia has been the subject of a draft movement seeking to secure a candidate with the allure of a war hero after an attack on right wing generals such as Harold George, “some of whom are my own classmates,” accusing them of leading the party astray with the nomination of the ultra-conservative Benjamin Gitlow. Clay has portrayed himself as the candidate of order, supporting, as the others do, the prosecution of Blackshirts and the freeing of prosecuted opposition politicians. However, Clay, a former administrator of Lindbergh-era public works programs, is the only candidate to stop short of supporting the abolition of the New State, with backers instead focusing on the renowned administrative talent that led Douglas MacArthur to quip that Clay “could run General Motors or General Bradley’s army.” Despite his reticence to campaign at the convention, Clay’s moderation, vague platform, connections, and war hero status have won over a significant segment of delegates.
John Sampson Cooper on the cover of Henry Luce's Time magazine.
John Sampson Cooper: Named for martyred Admiral William T. Sampson not long after the First Pacific War dramatically ended with the Second Battle of Hawai’i, 50 year old Kentucky Senator John Sampson Cooper has led an underdog campaign of moderate liberals led by young activists Mark Hatfield and Chuck Mathias and Tannenbaum territorial delegate Jacob Javits. Returning home from Yale to find his father on his deathbed and his beloved Pulaski County burned to the ground amidst the Revolution, Cooper would be elected to county leadership at age 24, famously responding to a legal requirement that he evict the impoverished by personally paying their debts, earning the moniker “the poor man’s judge” as he emerged as a major figure in post-Revolutionary reconciliation in Kentucky. Returning home once more from service as a military attache in the Third Pacific War, Cooper would oust incumbent Farmer-Laborite Jerry Spencer in a 1944 upset, delaying taking his seat to serve as a legal advisor to hundreds of thousands of displaced Indonesians before emerging as a Senate leader in bringing the United States closer to India and other nations newly liberated from colonialism.
While eschewing the isolationism of O’Daniel, Cooper has demonstrated a far more relaxed stand on foreign policy than Luce, opposing aggressive anti-communism abroad while depicting the United States as a great mediator of peace in situations such as the violence in Palestine or partition of India. The reported favorite of Fulgencio Batista despite Cooper’s criticism of Batista as insufficiently committed to democracy, the Kentuckian has managed to maintain a widespread popularity with labor that has led many to speculate that Cooper would be the only candidate able to win the endorsement of organized labor and an imprisoned John L. Lewis. Lacking the celebrity draw of Senator Luce, Cooper has countered with a far more detailed platform, calling for the opening of American borders to the world’s refugees, massively increased federal aid to education, and, in stances that have left him anathema to many party conservatives, support for universal health insurance, coal subsidies, and public housing. A self admitted “truly terrible public speaker," Cooper’s political independence has won him the support of Will Rogers Jr. and made him a favorite of the modern liberal wing of the Liberty League.
Luis A. Ferre's El Dia newspaper, later renamed El Nuevo Dia.
Other Candidates:
The following are seen as major contenders for the nomination, but lag behind the frontrunner candidates.
Luis A. Ferre: Among the most grim results of the 1948 elections emerged from the Caribbean, where states once considered the most loyally anti-Farmer-Labor in America crossed the aisle for the first time in history. With strategists seeing the path to the presidency running through the island states, many among the electorally minded have flocked to 48 year old Puerto Rico Senator Luis A. Ferre, publisher of the nation’s largest Spanish language newspaper, El Nuevo Dia. A classically trained pianist who has focused his senatorial career on securing funding for the arts, Ferre has referred to the United States as the “moral summit of the world,” while aligning himself in the middle on economic policy, calling for “addressing the inequalities of society” by selling off public land at a low price and supporting federal public housing with an emphasis on rural revitalization, in addition to a call for a 4% Christmas bonus on the grounds of the Jesus Amendment.
James A. Rhodes: "Every time I take a position on an issue, I lose two percent of the people. If I do that 50 times, I have everybody mad at me," the quip encapsulates the philosophy of 43 year old Ohio Governor James A. “Jim” Rhodes and his backers. Emerging as the favorite of many convention delegates who have argued that the best path forward for a united campaign is a steadfast focus on bread and butter issues, Rhodes has remarked that “there are only three issues in this campaign: jobs, jobs, and jobs,” and has argued that to win the power necessary to destroy the New State and its legacies, any anti-La Follette campaign must focus on people’s lives and the economy, not vague notions of democracy and American ideals. Born in the hills of Appalachia, Rhodes would be forced out of college after failing every class, only to work his way into the Mayoralty of Columbus, before unexpectedly catapulting himself to the Ohio Governorship before the age of 40, where he has governed with a moderate conservatism focused on local issues such as water rights and a program to "put a college education within 25 miles of every boy and girl” that has been praised as a national model.
The King of Country.
Write-In Candidates:
The following candidates can win the nomination, but are either presently supporting other candidates and thus only subject to draft movements rather than an active campaign or lack adequate first ballot support.
Roy Acuff: 49 year old Roy Acuff of Tennessee was christened “The King of Country Music” for smash hits such as Wabash Cannonball, leading fellow musician Hank Williams to quip “book him and you don’t worry about crowds…for drawing power in the South, it’s Roy Acuff, then God.” Yet, after a rumor that Governor Buford Elington had labeled his music “disgraceful,” Acuff would embrace the label “king of the Hillbillies” in the 1948 election cycle to trade his acoustic throne for the Governor’s chair. Declaring that “any business must be put on a business plan, and so must a state government,” Acuff has cut the budget while requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in government buildings, increasing state pensions, instituting a free school textbook program, cooperating with the La Follette Administration on the hydroelectric Tennessee Valley Authority, and has controversially called for additional restrictions on firearm ownership. Widely considered a possible frontrunner for his celebrity status if a primary were to have been held, Acuff has supported O’Daniel at the convention, yet has evasively refused to disavow a draft movement arising from his pro-union sympathies that many suspect could bring Fulgencio Batista into the fold alongside John L. Lewis, Jimmy Hoffa, and the opposition Farmer-Laborites.
Joseph H. Jackson: A Mississippi farm boy who taught himself reading and mathematics, 52 year old Joseph H. Jackson, President of the largest predominantly black church in America, the American Baptist Convention, has emerged as the favorite of former Gitlow ally Billy J. Hargis for his right-wing populist views and claim to be able to win millions of black voters back from President La Follette. Calling to “save the nation, in order to save the individual citizen, and the race," Jackson has focused his attacks on La Follette for violating “civil order,” and extended this critique to opposition protests. Making the radical proposal to not merely denationalize the General Trades Union, but to destroy it entirely, Jackson has called for the severing of diplomatic recognition to all communist nations and international intervention to spread “the liberating power of our federal constitution and the supreme law of the land, the American ideals of freedom and democracy.” However, Jackson has fallen from major candidate status after an investigation by the Labor Department into allegedly abusing unpaid labor at a daycare and using church donations to buy himself a mansion and a sports car.
America's chief penny pincher speaks.
Henry S. Breckinridge: The only member of the Liberty League at the fore of presidential consideration, 66 year old New York Congressman Henry Skillman Breckinridge ran alongside Al Capone in 1936 in the campaign that doomed the Commonwealth alliance, but has reinvented his career since by working to ally Federalist and Liberty League causes against La Follette and serving as the organization’s House leader. Advocating a heavily internationalist vision in line somewhere between that of Cooper and Luce, Breckinridge’s commitment to small government classical liberalism and a strict construction of the constitution has made him the favorite of Liberty League loyalists and some party conservatives. However, it is considered unlikely for a Liberty League member to win outright due to Progressive-Federalists comprising a majority of convention delegates.
Eleanor Butler Roosevelt: 63 year old former President Eleanor Butler Roosevelt was promoted for the nomination for months by her former counsel turned the “voice of impeachment,” Richard Nixon, who has noted that her re-election would have stopped the rise of fascism in its tracks. However, content with retirement, the writing of her memoirs, and the promotion of Nixon’s career, Roosevelt has categorically refused to seek the presidency. Nonetheless, she is expected to receive votes on the convention’s opening ballot from admirers.
Benjamin Muse: 54 year old former Virginia Governor Benjamin Muse won an upset victory in 1945 to be elected Governor against the campaigning of President La Follette. An establishment Federalist and charismatic writer, Muse received significant support as a candidate but has declined to contest the convention and worked to promote the nomination of Clare Boothe Luce after a meeting with Henry Luce.
H.R. Gross: 53 year old Iowa Governor and 1948 Progressive vice presidential nominee Harold Royce Gross has gained renown for his steadfast economic conservatism, vetoing every proposed state budget increase throughout his tenure and calling for a complete end to foreign aid in addition to the dismantling of the New State; avoiding moral arguments, Gross has opposed atomic bombings and war on the grounds that both are too financially costly. A hero of the party right, Gross has declined to seek the presidency himself, citing his refusal to attend fundraising parties rather than watch Iowa football games, and is expected to support Pappy O’Daniel or Jim Rhodes on the convention floor.
46 year old Samuel Ichiye Hayakawa has been elected interim Chairman of the Convention.

2024.05.17 22:12 JellyCabinBoy Well I got Fired today from Lockheed Martin

Man this was quite the journey to go on, but if you are going to commit to reading this whole thing then I am glad for it. In the beginning, I authored an anonymous letter to a few key members of my team and fellow coworkers in my office. In the letter I suggested that we all treat each other with respect in the workplace and handle problems like adults. I also suggested that we avoid an behaviors that may be unethical or illegal, as we were dealing with classified information. I brought up these concerns because there was a lot of cursing in the office, I had been berated in my office by various members of other teams, and most of all there was rampant drug use within the lab. Members had started bringing edibles to work, some had been smoking weed in the parking lot and came into their office, you could smell it on them and a scent that remained when they left. It was also alluded that some members of the team had been on or taking hallucinogenics like psilocybin and lsd. Aside from the drug use, there was also decisions that were being made and forced on workers to "cut corners" to save cost when it came to products. All of this came to a boiling point when it was announced that the company was going to lay-off 10% of the organization. This news came to me at the same time that I learned that Robert Lightfoot would make over $1 million and Jim Taiclet would continue to make over $25 million regardless of the 'corporate loss' from 2023. When I wrote the letter I did not highlight any of my concerns in detail, I tried to make the letter as free of direct detail as possible, because I did not want a witch-hunt to ensue. I respected my coworkers and the sheer stress they were under to complete nearly impossible requests with almost no time and hardly any pay.
My Letter was discovered by a manager a week after I composed and sent it to some of my fellow workers. At first I was ecstatic that this might bring some much needed change to our office and procedures, but now I know the pain and suffering that would soon follow. My fellow coworkers were each interviewed and slowly it was discovered that I was the anonymous author of the paper. I was urged by colleagues and some managers, to claim that the letter was a prank made to 'frighten my colleagues for april fools.' So when I was finally interviewed absolutely none of my concerns were discussed. I was told that if I did not come forward as the author, my position would be terminated, so I played their game and agreed to anything they suggested. This was truly my greatest failure, had i stuck my ground and continued my truth I would have at least held my pride in the face of termination. The interrogation consisted of questions regarding my actions in the lab, and possible wrong-doing. I claimed that I had never committed any actions or made any jokes at the expense of my coworkers. They failed to bring to light, any evidence or events of my actual wrong doing. At the end of the meeting, they told me to write a letter to hopefully prevent any serious actions taken against me. So I followed their advice and wrote a letter to hopefully explain away my concerns because no one at Lockheed Martin could ever conceivably commit any unethical or illegal actions in a classified area.
Four weeks later I was called into my office where I met with my manager and his manager, along with an HR representative who refused to meet in person, and a security manager. I was told that I was being terminated for Sexual Harassment, Racism in the workplace, and workplace security. I was told that I would not be given any information regarding events or evidence of these allegations unless I appealed. I was told it had nothing to do with the anonymous letter and instead was completely separate. I cleared out my office and said goodbye to the war-profiting organization.
I attempted to appeal, not to regain my position, but because I wanted to learn why on earth I was fired, I am a straight married man, who worked in an office with a single woman in it. The organization had no racial diversity, it was an office of only white men, so unless I was racist against my own people, the Irish, then I was completely at a loss. In the appeal process I asked for evidence or events that led the company to terminate my position and I was told the following (this is an excerpt from the email they sent me):
"You were interviewed and provided an opportunity to respond to the allegations. Additionally you were given the opportunity and provided written statement(s). Lastly, you were informed on the discipline memorandum the substantiated allegations and policies violations as well, which you signed for acknowledgement of receipt of the communication. Nothing further will be provided."
After receiving this I formulated my official appeal, with no hope of gaining any further information. I did not want to go back to Lockheed Martin after this, nor did I want to ever work for a war-profiteering company again, morally I could no longer stomach it.
Today I received the final email regarding my termination from the companies HRBP Michelle Donaldson. They will never provide me with further information unless I can pry it from them in court, they will uphold their termination indefinitely and they will not remove any charges that are deemed as gross misconduct (this means i cannot collect unemployment insurance).
The corporate politics are ablaze in social media and quite frankly I have been disgusted with the amount of corner cutting companies like Lockheed Martin and Boeing have been doing to the public. In part I am upset that I worked for such a heartless company for so long, the other part of me feels like a weight has been lifted. I have no idea how I will be able to afford bills, especially with a baby, but at least I won't be helping anyone build weapons to harm people anymore.

2024.05.17 06:22 SnarkyRetort Has anyone tried an approach with the QAnon in their life of "yes money buys votes, lets get rid of the money and lobbyist in politics and bring back voting on merit instead of billionaires buying legislation from the left and right." position? Using a how can we come together strategy?

I'm just curious if anyone has brought this retort to their Q.
I know that the maga crowd is parroting Fox news and Truth Social and their own echo chamber. I know it takes all kinds but wtf. I'm of lower mediocre intelligence and all I have to do is step back look at all the information that's available to me and come up with my own conclusion.
I mean the way I perceive things, the common denominator of the ills of this nation comes from EVERYTHING has a price. Healthcare, child care, education, sustenance, housing, insurance, infrastructure, immigration that involves milking you for as many pennies as YOU can afford so that you cant afford to do anything but think about how your going to pay for the next obstacle that's thrown your way.
Is it wrong to want amazon to pay a tax for the infrastructure of streets, roads, freeways and airways they are free to use for profit?
Is it wrong for the healthcare, mental health care and healthcare insurance industry to charge you for what ever you have left in your bank account and leave you indigent because you got sick?
Is it wrong to want the unhoused to have a home?
Is it wrong to not have 10% of what you earn after needs are met to yourself to do with as you please?
Its unfortunate that the less desirable people in our society are turned away and told to pull up their bootstraps but isn't it more unfortunate that that person, didn't get any help, without milking them for profit until they have bootstraps?
Finland has implemented a 0 homeless policy
Finland’s success is not a matter of luck or the outcome of “quick fixes.” Rather, it is the result of a sustained, well-resourced national strategy, driven by a “Housing First” approach, which provides people experiencing homelessness with immediate, independent, permanent housing, rather than temporary accommodation (OECD, 2020).
Democratic Socialism has been demonized and all I can think of is this capitolist scenario "If your house catches on fire, whos bid from which fire department corporation are you going with?"
I's sure a lot of people have not seen Hypernormalization and I get it its a 3 hour watch. But in that 3 hours you learn that you cant start a movement about anything because by the time the movement starts there's a new more outrageous issue to rally against.
I think a lot of the qAnon fears are the same as ours only maga has vocalized the following of a cult rather than an experiment in democracy that has checks and balances. tRump is most definitely the biggest of check of balances we have come to in 247 years aside from the Civil War.
In my opinion there needs to be a better deal than the new green deal, there needs to be a greener deal to put people to work on the ills of this nation to help the unhealthy, unhomed, under educated, underfed.
Sorry turned into a rant but im curious if anyone has taken a "how can we work together" approach because while ill agree that a percentage of boomers are tRumpers and have listened to more than my fair share of magats and their tRumper cult views.
I just cant believe the koolaide is that strong, although I know it is, Jim Jones was able to get over 900 people to off themselves on faith alone.

2024.05.16 18:21 GCCjigglypuff Can someone help me come up with a plan b? I’m crushed and feeling hopeless

I just got a diagnosis this year, early 30s. I’ve been going to a sliding scale place for the last 10 years with no health insurance. I did my diagnosis on ADHDonline, and my therapist warned me that some people may turn their noses at it.
Today I had a medication appointment at the same place, and the psychiatrist there turned his nose at it. It was my first time meeting with him, my regular doctor stopped working Thursdays so they set me up with him today. When I first sat down with him he starts asking about if I’m a student, and what my GPA is. I’m naive and completely new to this, so I told him. I just finished a bachelors in computer science with a 4.0, and I’ve got 2 more semesters left on a masters. He shot me a really obnoxious look like he thinks he’s doing a “Jim from The Office”… he straight up told me he doesn’t think I have ADHD because I have a 4.0.
I immediately felt the tears welling up and there was no stopping it. I still haven’t stopped crying and it’s been an hour since I left. I told him that yes, I have a 4.0, but every semester I have some sort of financial aid fuckup because I can’t remember anything. I’m chronically late to everything, and the only way I ever get anything done is staying up until 4am the night before a big project is due. He was unmoved. He told me he spoke with a valedictorian lawyer once and didn’t believe him either.
I’ve just been stewing over this and thinking of all the things I should have told him. I’ve been taking college classes since 2006, with 3 changes of major and a 5-year hiatus. I didn’t just take a 17 question quiz somewhere and consider that official, I spent several hours of my life writing up detailed, thoughtful responses, and it was signed off by someone with a PhD. I have a sister who was diagnosed and a dad who would go through a 12-pack of Mtn Dew just to function.
I’m hurt and I’m frustrated and I feel like there is some classism at play, too. I see rich kids snap their fingers and get hooked on xanax for “anxiety.” I forgot to fax my assessment over beforehand, because guess what, I have ADHD! I haven’t gotten my classes from last semester paid because guess what, I have ADHD! I haven’t even gotten signed up for the fall semester, and I can feel myself crashing and burning, hard.
Sorry, I know this is so long, but what can I do? This man told me I could speak with my regular psychiatrist, but he’s the one who oversees all the other doctors there.

2024.05.16 00:21 KarlosHungus36 "When did you last speak with her?"/"The boys found this, on the floor in back of the Caddy."

"When did you last speak with her?"
P14 Gordon asks Diane about her half sister Jane. 'speak' -- Peaks. Shortly before that, Albert told Tammy about Lois Duffy and mentioned that she did not have a twin sister (Tammy said 'conjured' alt 'conjoined;' an alt version of Duffys are twins? link to 'doubleheader in Vegas?'); so we have twin & alt 'speak' mentioned close together (alt 'Twin Peaks'). Twin alt 'twine' - Diane on the chair, alt bound like Laura was in the cabin? Finley's 'Fine' Twine, alt 'fair' city. The FBI room is alt Jacque's cabin? Gordon alt Jacques (alt Cousteau, alt team on underwater expedition, 'before I came up'), Albert alt Leo, Tammy alt Ronette. A couple times the trio were waiting for Diane to arrive ("Diane's on her way" P12 and P14), alt trio by the Corvette waiting for Laura; Diane when she came in talked about Cooper returning and raping her, Cooper is alt James and she's alt Laura? (visual with Cooper kissing Diane). So Diane & Cooper blend into the roles of James & Laura, FBI team alt the trio on the night of Laura's death. Gordon alt Jacques - 'high school sandwich,' P9 Gordon stands between Tammy and Diane, alt they are smoking outside the HS, Bill a HS principal is questioned in the next scene, Bobby linked directly to the TP HS in the previous scene, Lucy was just eating a giant sandwich; conference room alt a teacher's lounge, grown up Bobby alt the assistant principal (alt Betty) the assistant to Bill? Frank alt the principal? his office alt the principal's office? and a link between Bill Hastings and Frank Truman? more below.
FBI trio alt trio of Jacques (Gordon), Leo (Albert) & Ronette (Tammy). Waiting for Laura alt Diane 'on her way'; Diane sits on the chair alt 'bound' like Laura.
"The boys found this, on the floor in back of the Caddy."
Mulholland Dr., Detective Neal Domgaard played by Brent Briscoe (Dave Macklay) - his boys found a pearl earring inside the Cadillac at the scene of the car accident, belonging to Rita/Camilla. P1, Detectives Harrison and Macklay arrive to the Hastings home with 'the boys' and search Bill's house and car. Phyllis is not happy about it, turns to look inside and we get a long look at her pearl earring {Phyllis alt Rita? killed at her home, alt from the hit in MD; MrC alt the hitman "you did good...you follow human nature perfectly" cryptic comment, similar to Joe at Winkie's "when it's finished you'll find this where I told you."}. The other detective in MD, Harry McKnight, played by Forster (Frank Truman). P5 Frank's wife Doris storms into Hawk's office and complains and berates Frank about various issues at the house, she's alt Phyllis, Frank alt the husband? (in Bill's spot, see above). Macklay says that he knows Bill from high school alt Frank/Forster, his former partner whose prints were found at the crime scene and who he interrogates in P1? (Dave alt 'Neal Macklay'). Mack said Bill's prints were 'all over' Ruth's apartment. P9 Frank is given Garland's 'tube' by Betty, he touches all around it looking for a seam or button to open it (P11 Frank also touches Hawk's map, which had been rolled up like the notes inside the tube). 'Garland's tube' alt to 'Ruth's apartment?' Former contains two notes, latter contained two partial bodies. Officers Olson and Douglas P1 needed help getting into Ruth's apartment, had to go back outside to find maintenance man Hank, alt Frank & Hawk need Bobby's help to open the tube, had to go back outside; an alt version of Bobby, maintenance man at the station? So [Garland's tube] is alt to [Ruth's apartment] (two rolled up notes inside the tube alt bodies; Hawk's map also was rolled up, alt a body? Frank touches it, link to P17 Cooper to Frank "don't touch that body!"). In MD, there's another Ruth (Elms), the girls stay at her apartment and bring back another strange device that opens like the tube - the blue box. Betty, like Frank and the tube touches it all over (a different Betty gave Frank the tube) (maps - Betty & Rita look at a map before going to Sierra Bonita alt Frank & Hawk looking at the map before going to Jack Rabbit's, both scenarios involve long walks leading to bodies - the corpse or Naido; alt - Naido is a map? ("she's alive" alt to Hawk's map being a 'living entity') merges with MrC at death in P17 ("don't touch that body!") (who was also at the same site where Naido was found in P17, before he went to the station) going backwards into the story (like getting rolled back up into a 'map'; alt a rug, Frank Lebowski alt).
Garland's 'tube' alt the blue box in MD. Frank touches it all over link to prints all over Ruth's apartment.
What's inside the blue box? We see a black void, link to the black symbol on Hawk's map? (might be alt Judy's, where Cooper goes P18, alt he was following the map, curiosity alt 'Caddy?' version where he arrives in a Cadillac in place of the Lincoln Towncar (link to the Chevy dealership P5); link to Blue Velvet, Kyle's character was just 'really curious;' killed the cat, Judy alt a cat? black?). Alt - the blue box was found by Macklay's boys at the crime scene (in MD the box ends up in Ruth's apartment and in P1 the crime scene is also in a Ruth's apartment); scenario where Macklay has it but can't open it? P1 Constance running prints at her computer, monitor black and blue background alt it's the box itself? (Rita's fingers alt Constance's in the POV shot) (the box also analyzes things? link to the glass box in the same part, [computer processing softly] in captions, Tammy is paired with Macklay P11 brining coffee and donuts, alt Tracey with Sam, Mack has the box alt Sam and the glass box; computeequipment also linked to the FBI's hotel room, inside of Diane's purse POV alt inside the box; inside/out in flux?). Constance, besides running analyses, holds Garland's body, alt there's a body inside the box? (layer collapses - with no Constance, the box itself = a body? link to Betty vanishing in a collapsed layer? corresponds with Frank finding the tube, no Betty? maybe merged with Hawk, alt finding the tube inside something in place of the pages). Rita opens the box in MD - numerous parallels between her and Cooper from the perspective of Watts (Betty or Janey-E), alt it's who Cooper opens it? (Pilot: Cooper and Harry in the conference room try to open Laura's diary, which was hidden in her bedroom alt the box hidden in Ruth's bedroom closet, but no key for the diary, so Dale just breaks its open, link to P9 and the tube which they couldn't open. Opening the box sends him to Judy's (possible link to the map symbol) and combines his 'head' with Garland's body? He wakes up at the hospital in Las Vegas (female doctor alt Constance overseeing Garland's body in Buckhorn) ('Headley' alt to 'Macklay?' LV vs Buckhorn versions; Headly signifies a 'head' level of the story? Mack signifies a 'truck' level, or world? world of truck 'drivers' alt doppelgangers? Cooper P2 looks out of the red room and sees his doppelganger (who is 'in Buckhorn') driving, alt a truck).
Two mountain peaks behind clouds in P5 alt Blue Pine Mountain & White Tail Peak? The cross symbol alt the Chevy logo. Cooper P18 alt driving (in 'Caddy' in place of Towncar) looking for Judy's alt black symbol on the map.
Blue box alt Constance's computer; black and blue. Macklay alt has the box from the crime scene.
Summary: Macklay (alt Neal) and his boys find the box at the crime scene from P1, old partner's prints (alt Frank) are on it, Cooper (alt Lt Knox) arrives to investigate and alt to him and Harry in S1 and the diary in the conference room (and link to Hawk's map and the 'Judy' symbol also in the conference room), he opens it using force, transports him to a world where he's the 'head' that combines with someone else's body (which was inside or represented by the box). Since Ruth Davenport's head is combined with Garland's body in P1, is Cooper is alt 'Ruth?' [Both Ruths are red haired like Lt Knox (also like Linney James who walked down the hallway at Universal Studios like Cindy Knox at the morgue in Buckhorn), alt Cooper in her spot who was sent by Gordon alt Col Davis?]. Ruth link to 'Roth' (Tim)? Hutch in P9 parallels the maintenance man Hank in P1 (both have mystery bags and stand by trucks); maintenance man also alt Bobby who broke open the box outside with force alt using tools, in place of Dale in the conference room forcing open the diary. {P5 Doris "I told you this!" link to 'Soulja Boy I told you' (soak link), Crank That; next scene P5 a boy Sonny Jim alt Soulja (dance link to Teach Me How To Dougie); Cooper P4 alt a maintenance man in the Jones kitchen fixing something? links between Briggs and Jones houses (visual 1 and visual 2); Garland mentions his soul when he went to the white lodge, returns home in S2 parallel to Cooper P18. So 'soul' linked to the Jones house and Cooper's presence there, alt Ruth/Roth}. Alt to a simple head & body (opener of box and box) - soul and body? Or soul and mind? Alt - a golden box represents a soul? (close to the cardboard box in P11?). Box or cube alt to the spherical 'seed?' The vehicle (shape like box or tube) represents a physical body, inside it (alt an apartment) or merged with the soul; which is 'opened' by a 'mind'? P17 - Gordon says that Jeffries was on to Judy (alt looking the place indicated by the black symbol on the map) and that Garland and Cooper were also onto Judy. Jeffries no longer exists, at least not in the normal sense, alt he lost his mind? Cooper takes over as the 'mind' (or alt curiosity) who combines with the soul (Garland) to continue the quest for Judy? A story with Cooper alt Roth, literal maintenance man, fixes something in the Jones house/kitchen (link to Hawk stopping by to check in on and help Sarah who is a widow), has or acquires the soul of her late husband? 'Mend' (to repair) alt 'mind'; Cooper following in the footsteps of Jeffries, literal repair man in the body of Roth/Hutch alt 'apartment' of Ruth ('story' alt body; two stories alluded to by Charlie, link to "3 bodies?" Lorraine, alt 3 stories?). Summary 2: repair main has or acquires the soul of late husband, falls in love with a widow, named Judy? Flip side: curiosity killed the cat, named Judy, black cat? (alt the bum in MD?) Like a black trap that a curious person falls into; alt scenario - Cooper (alt Jeffery, in BV?) digs up dirt on the girl he's falling for, which ends up killing the romance? Link to Diane in S3 "none of your fucking business" she's alt Sandy if the romance with Jeffery didn't pan out.
Hallway walks, Lt Knox parallels Linney James.
-P9 outside in the parking lot Bobby throws the tube against the ground, police cars blue and black in the lot link, to the blue box in MD (black void inside), 'throwing' link to the Mitchums (Bradley doesn't trust that rat fuck Anthony as far as he can throw a car), Frank & Hawk alt the brothers who can't open the box; Candie alt Bobby their sidekick, link to Castigliane Brother; Bobby alt or 'Bobby Mitchum?' (brothers Brad & Rod, B & R, alt Betty and Rita?). Mitchums place P10, has pool alt to Adam's house on MD, alt they have the blue box or something similaalt and can't open it? (gold box? similar to the cardboard box Cooper brings P11, alt he's the tool man who helps them open it).
Mitchum brothers alt Frank & Hawk; or alt 'Bobby Mitchum' opens the device (alt a box), Brad & Rod, B & R, alt Betty & Rita? Cooper P11 brings the cardboard box and it's opened, alt helps them open a box?
-P9, Dave Macklay walks at the morgue and tells Albert details around the body (alt Gerard walks with Cooper), says Ruth's head was 'atop' the body of Major Briggs. 'atop' alt stop, link to Richard, alt Richard and Linda as the body & head? Richard and Linda - 'ra' and 'la' missing a 'u' to make 'Laura?' alt version where Laura is found dead in bed in her room? Pete finds corpse in the Pilot, alt he's her younger brother? "oh dear" calls the sheriff etc. parents not home, on road trip alt Gordon (alt Garland) and Diane (alt wife Betty) traveling P9 ("is it alright if we make a short trip to Buckhorn"), daughter alt 'Laura Briggs?' The 'U' - link to Silver Mustang? (casino logo is a horseshoe, U). P5, Lucy 7 Insurance L/R with 'u' (alt casino - transition P5 from agency to casino; Mitchum Brothers MB alt Bushnell Mullins BM), with a conference room alt the station P4 (Laura's case evidence spread out). Conference room links to bedroom - rolled up map alt rug in Ruth's, where Dale opens the diary (and where the tube is not opened) alt the blue box.

2024.05.14 18:54 Expensive_Risk_4544 Persist with brazen impudence

Ok !! So I am going to give 3 success stories to boost anyone who is feeling down also to boost my own self in other areas too. I think success stories are a great way to pull us out of a slump and strengthen our beliefs when we find ourselves wavering.. SUCCESS STORY 1 : So I am a dentist and had just started practicing when the first wave of COVID hit and unfortunately the dentists in my country were asked to close clinics and the doctor I was working under asked me to resign. This happened within 3 months of my initial practice and I was very troubled by the circumstances. One good evening in June, after applying for a ton of jobs, I sat down and scrolled through YouTube and came across a speech by Jim Carey where he talks about the million dollar cheque he had written to himself which later manifested in his reality with the success of the movie "Dumb and Dumber". So I was like, well why not try this. And that was my first interaction with manifestations and affirmations.. so I began to violently and vehemently listen to money subliminals and affirm crazily that I got a job which pays me well.. I stopped applying for all jobs and just repeatedly for 21 days affirmed every night before sleeping.. and then left it .. Exactly a week into July, I get continuous calls from various HRs who want doctors to sponsor their products or work for their health insurance companies with an amount which was roughly close to the money I kept affirming for.. and guess what I hadn't sent out my resumes to any of those companies !! They had got my number from referrals by other doctors !! I ended up taking one which was more convenient for my travel and safer for me to work at, considering the COVID scenarios.
SUCCESS STORY 2 : Even before knowing about law of assumption, back in college, during my last year of graduation, everyone were making plans about their future and when I was asked for my plan, I just kept telling them, I would fly to Canada, crack their license exam and practice there for a few years. Everyone kept saying its going to be a costly process and time consuming, and I knew that as well.. I just repeatedly said "yeah I know, but I will do it somehow". I didn't have the money to make any of it happen, but three years after my graduation and after gaining enough experience in my own country, I finally got my PR visa and now am on my way studying to crack the exam !! During those 3 years, I had tried many times through study permits, applied to universities in other countries like US, UK and Australia as well.. but none NONE of them went through !! I, My parents, friends everyone were worried that I may not be able to achieve the big dentist dream I had. But it was as if My subconscious had bigger plans, once I began applying for my PR visa, everything fell through, the money came in, my applications were easily approved.. and I easily flew here !!
My 3rd Success story : When people say be grateful for what you got, you have to be really grateful for them. I don't mean by constantly saying thank you or such, but by not abusing the blessings you get.. so after landing in Canada, I got myself a wonderful loan to pay for my exams and prepare happily. But because of certain circumstances like constantly missing my SP who was back in my country and wishing I hadn't taken this route, also I kept worrying about the loan, I lost a chunk of the loan amount to a scam. (I was just not thankful for the blessings I got, the PR VISA and my trip to Canada which I so badly wanted, I started questioning my choices, regretting it, missing my home country and people back home. I literally once said, I hate it here, everything is so silent here) . I cried my eyes out after losing the money and didn't know how I would pay my fees cos the amount I lost was the exact same money I had to pay for my exam fee and the tuition fee. I then sat down, realized my mistakes and repeatedly said my gratitude prayers and affirmed that I would get the money somehow. As if like a punishment for myself, I then began to work odd jobs and within a week, I got a mail from the same lenders that they are willing to give me the amount and also simultaneously I manifested a much better stable job which helped me to get back the same amount I lost in the scam !!
My big takeaways from my own successes were 1) Persist like crazy with brazen impudence, the when and how is not your job. 2) Practice gratitude, something that I learnt very late in life. To be grateful ! 3) Always be kind to your own self, and just live in the knowing that when you want something really bad, then all the universe will conspire for you to have it as Paulo Coelho said, or as Neville Goddard himself said, "if you really want something and if a million people will have to move for your desire to manifest, then they will."
I hope these will uplift some of you and help you get what you want! I myself am manifesting a very stubborn SP, and I am sure he will come to me in the most wonderful way possible ! Can't wait to post a success story about that later!! Have fun !!

2024.05.13 19:13 killerwheelie Please roast! I need all the help I can get! Thanks!

Trying to get a new job in either program management or product management! I have been applying to a ton of jobs and not hearing a ton back. I’m currently in the medical device industry but open to others. There is some conflicting timelines from my experience because one of them is a nonprofit I volunteered for while working and the lab I worked at in college I went to assist with procedures after I graduated! 2024.05.11 00:46 samsilly12345 My grandparents want me(27F) to take care of my mom(58F) after they pass, and I don't want to. What do I do?

tl;dr: my mom lost custody of me when I was little, her parents want me to take care of her when they're gone even tho she has everything provided by the government. I don't want to and want to ghost her. What do I do?
hello this is my first time posting on this subreddit, if this is the wrong place please let me know and direct me to the correct one. I thought this would be best after looking thru a list of advice subreddits. Obligatory sorry for formatting, I am on mobile.
So it's really what it says in the title. But of course you'll need more info than that so here we go. Sorry if it gets jumbled and rambly, I'm typing this more just as it comes to me. I'll do my best.
I was raised by my nana, papa, and my dad. His parents and him. My mom and her parents were in my life about every weekend or so, nothing super set in stone. Until I was like 6, I had no idea she was my mom. I thought she was just some aunt or something that tagged along. Didn't know, didn't really care. To me my nana was my mom figure and my nana, she was married to my papa, and my dad was their kid. Apparently they thought I just knew she was my mom and I remember everyone being very shocked that I didn't know that.
My mom and dad never got married. My dad was told that he was never gonna be able to have kids, and he says that she told him she had an IUD at the time as well. Along came me! Miracle baby as far as my dad and his side of the family are concerned! It turns out shortly before she releaved she was pregnant with me, my dad found out he got caught up with another crazy girl (yes, another. that's a story for a different time). He wasn't super sure it was his, but he was scared of what if it was, so he stuck around best he could. They all said that when I was born any doubts went straight out the window and my mom's first words about me were "Oh God she looks like Jim!"
so fast forward to what I found a few years ago, after my dad died. All this time I knew that my nana and papa got custody of me when I was 8 months old, and lived at their house ever since, but I didn't know any concrete reason why. I knew my mom had mental problems of some kind, but she always seemed 80-90% normal and was eventually told she had bipolar. I also knew my dad probably had some form of undiagnosed ADHD and was an alcoholic, and at least before his death also a drug addict. My fiance didn't really understand my family dynamics and why I was pretty apathetic towards my bio mom, so I told him to ask my nana since I didn't feel like going thru everything with him. What was odd is when that happened, I was told to leave the room and they locked the door. I asked for months what on earth they talked about that I didn't know. My fiance finally caved and told me that my nana never wanted to ever tell me, and that it was gonna die with her and be his secret.
Turns out, when I was about 6 months old, my mother was left alone with me in an apartment that my dad and her had, and she tried to drown me in the tub. My dad got home from work and I think he heard yelling, ran to bathroom and caught her. I didn't need CPR or anything, but that started it. My dad's side and my mom's side started the custody battle and that was why my nana always kinda hated my mom's parents, they always had an excuse for her and tried to take me away. They lost, my nana and papa got me, and I lived my life not knowing.
It didn't change much of anything for me except finally stuff fell into place that I always thought was odd. like the surprise that my family had and overvigalence they had when I expressed that I absolutely adored swimming more than any other sporty activity. the side eyes and the fact my dad refused to talk to my mom, etc.
my mom has everything provided for her. she supposedly cant work, insists she can't drive but she isn't "allowed to" and her parents take her to every doctor appointment, every grocery run, pay for her phone, give her money for laundry, let her stay with them even tho she has an apartment just cause she's having a tough time, etc. they expect me to do all this for her when they pass. I don't want to. I haven't told them. I love my Mamaw and papaw (her parents) to death and they are currently my only living grandparents. I love them so much I don't want to break their hearts, so I don't tell them outright that I don't, and I keep a civil relationship with my mom and even call her that half the time. makes everyone happy.
even without them she would have everything provided for her. she lives off of government stuff. she has government assigned housing, government insurance, disability, disability insurance, and there's at least 2 shuttles that would take her to doctor appointments and grocery stores that come to her apartment complex a day. she doesn't need anything and I don't want to provide it.
is it wrong of me to ghost her after they pass? should I be completely honest with her after they pass and let her know I was only being nice for their sake? do I need to tell police that if you hear anything about me from her, I cut her out of my life and I'm fine? what do I do?
thanks for listening. sorry for formatting, grammar, errors, and long-windedness.

2024.05.10 10:48 Salty_Piglet2629 So they want us to have more kids do they?

Link to article: https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/australia-let-s-have-more-babies-says-jim-chalmers-20240509-p5jb5y.html
It is behind a pay wall, sorry! Here is a very short summary: Male politician with 3 kids want people to have more kids in the middle of a cost of living crisis.
My take on this is: He has never struggled with money for real. He didn't have to be pregnant and give birth to three kids. He isn't turning every penny over to afford to keep a roof over his kids heads. He isn't struggling to pay their private school feels, their private childcare and keep healthy food on the table.
The average Aussie doesn't struggle as such, but people aren't generally having it easy either. The working class, who generally have more kids, are doing it tough because rents are sky high all over Australia due to terribe housing policies.
For those who have managed to buy a house and have kids at the same time are mortgages sky high and banks have allowed people to overborrow or borrow without taking into account the possibility of more kids.
Home insurance is through the roof because of years of climate-change induced fires and floods, in addition to housing being built in flood-prone areas...great idea...
So we should have more kids when the country is either burning or under water so much basic home insurance is now out of reach for many, childcare costs more than a regular salary and housing is more unaffordable than ever.
Sounds great...

2024.05.08 10:31 TransportationFirm37 Removal of impacted wisdom teeth / extraction of tooth - Melbourne costs (general anaesthetic)

Hello. Need to get 4 x wisdom teeth out as they are impacted + 1 x tooth that needs to be extracted. My own fault as I kept putting it off. Been referred to an oral surgeon inner north of Melbourne and they have quoted me $6,500 including hospital + anaesthetic fees. I have got 2 opinions from different denstist saying I will need to go under general due to the complexity of my teeth.
Does anyone know if there are other oral surgeons around Melbourne who are cheaper or offer payment plans that aren’t afterpay, Jim, zip. Possibly denticare or in house payment plans?
I also don’t have health insurance so will be out of pocket. I’m a full time uni student but also work and due to that earn above the amount that classifies me of getting a concession card :( ANY help would be amazing. Feeling very lost.

2024.05.05 22:00 popcodswallop [WTS] VINTAGE • Strange and Unusual Sheaffer Balances and a Snorkel Set: 6 Canadian 5-30 "Reverse Trim" Balances in all 4 Std. Striated Colors, 2 with Non-Std. Clips Balance Statesman (2) OS Balance Premiers GF Snorkel Triumph Set in Box •

This week’s vintage batch feature’s Sheaffer’s Balance in the main, with no less than 9 Balances to choose from, including 6 strange birds from Canada with so-called “reverse trim” and 2 oversized Premiers in 2 of the scarcer colors. Gold-filled Snorkel set in box with papers thrown in for good measure. As always, all pens are fully restored and ready to write.

ALBUM & TIMESTAMP

Pastable link: https://imgur.com/a/L4ZMl5b

Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the last couple weeks. Each of these pens is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.
THESE PENS HAVE NO CRACKS, CHIPS, PERSONALIZATIONS, LOOSE OR MISSING PARTS, BENT NIBS, MISALIGNED TINES, BROKEN/WORN OFF TIPPING, OR THREADING ISSUES.

Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have started to adopt the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.2-1.9mm); Superflex (>2mm). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue.

NOTE: Pens #1-5 and #8-9 in this batch have been restored with silicone sacs to preserve their color. Some silicone sacs are known to cause ink to seep from the nib in certain conditions, e.g. when the pen is carried or isn’t stored nib-up. If this is a concern to you, I’d be happy to install a latex sac before shipment on request at no extra charge.

1. c.1936 Canadian Sheaffer Balance 5-30 (Golden Brown, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone F nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 7/16” capped. When one looks into the Balances produced by Sheaffer Canada at their Toronto factory in the 30s, things get weird and none of the usual rules apply. With the exception of the (always) slender Balance Junior, all known versions of the Golden Brown, Marine Green, and Carmine striated Balances in US catalogues have gold-plated trim. Yet this one and those to follow have nickel plating. It was common to refer to this as a “reverse-trim” model, which is true from the American standpoint yet perhaps presumptive for Canadian pens. All 4 striated colors are represented among these first 4 pens (Roseglow is a different pattern altogether). And the only nickel-plated US clip with a Sheaffer’s imprint had a flat ball while the balls of these clips are round. This is to say nothing of the two-toned "Made in Canada" nibs, which resemble a Feather Touch nib but are marked 5-30 (a marking phased out in the early 30s before the striated colors were introduced). All of this makes for a rather unusual group of pens, one that combines the most attractive trimmings of the Balance over the course of its production IMHO. So scarce is this pen and the next 5 that I'd be willing to bet you won't find another like them for sale on any online storefront. But all of this may register as little more than esoterica to anyone but the most devoted Sheaffer nut. In any case, these are very pretty pens for those who prefer white metal and they are all delightful writers. 14k two-tone Sheaffer Balance 5-30 nib lays down a smooth and consistent F line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: near mint [B+]. These Canadian Balances (pens #1-6) come from my own collection, some 20 years in the making. I focused on pens with white metal trim and these Canadian models were the only striated Balances Sheaffer made with it (aside from the Grey pen below and some exceptionally rare, off-catalogue pens). They are the culmination of 2 decades hunting the best examples I could find. Accordingly, this pen is in museum-quality condition, like a time-capsule artifact. Nickel-plated trim, which was especially susceptible to brassing and corrosion, is pristine with no brassing and just a couple pin-sized spots of wear on the sides of the clip ball visible under a loupe. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes - scarcely even any microscratches. Ink-view window has yellow color and excellent transparency. Canadian manufacturer imprint with 1936 patent date on barrel is factory deep and fully legible. On their own, this pen and the following are unusual finds for the Sheaffer collector; to find these available together is downright rare. Price: $210 SOLD

2. c.1936 Canadian Sheaffer Balance 5-30 (Marine Green Striated, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone F Stub nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 1/2” capped. Everything mentioned about the aberrances of the Golden Brown pen above applies to this pen as well: you will not find a Marine Green striated Balance with nickel-plated trim in US catalogues. For more info about this unusual Canadian model with “reverse trim,” see the description of pen #1 above. 14k two-tone Sheaffer Balance 5-30 nib is a Factory Stub nib that lays down a smooth and consistent F line on the down-strokes and XF line on the cross-strokes (see WRITING SAMPLE). A nice nib for adding shading to one’s everyday writing. Condition: near mint [B+]. See description of pen #1 for the personal history of these first 6 pens. This pen is also in museum-quality condition. Nickel-plated trim, which was especially susceptible to brassing and corrosion, is pristine with no brassing or other notable blemishes. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable flaws - scarcely even any microscratches. Ink-view window has yellow color and excellent transparency. Canadian manufacturer imprint on barrel is only slightly weakened and still fully legible. Price: $230 SOLD

3. c.1936 Canadian Sheaffer Balance 5-30 (Grey Pearl Striated, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone XF nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 1/2” capped. For more info about this unusual Canadian model, see the description of pen #1 above. Unlike the other 3, Grey Pearl striated was made in the US with nickel-plated trim, but not like this with a full ball-clip stamped “Sheaffer’s.” 14k two-tone Sheaffer Balance 5-30 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Ink-view window has orange color and excellent transparency. Canadian manufacturer imprint on barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $190 SOLD

4. c.1940 Canadian Sheaffer Balance 5-30 (Carmine, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone F Semi-Flex nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 1/2” capped. Everything mentioned about the aberrances of the Golden Brown pen (#1 above) applies to this pen as well: you will not find a Carmine striated Balance with nickel-plated trim in US catalogues. Still more strangely, the desirable Carmine color was a latecomer, being introduced in 1940. So this pen has a 1940 color with an early 1930s model code and trim configuration. For more info about this unusual Canadian model with “reverse trim,” see the description of pen #1 above. Semi-Flexible 14k two-tone Sheaffer Balance 5-30 nib lays down a smooth and consistent F line that widens to a 2B or so (approx 1.1mm) under moderate pressure. A nice choice for adding subtle shading to everyday writing (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent+ [B+]. See description of pen #1 for the personal history of these first 6 pens. Nickel-plated trim, which was especially susceptible to brassing and corrosion, is pristine with no notable blemishes aside from two short (approx 3mm) slivers of brassing on the side edges of the lever near the center visible under a loupe. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable flaws - scarcely even any microscratches. Ink-view window has yellow color and excellent transparency. Canadian manufacturer imprint on barrel is weakened but still fully legible under a loupe. Price: $250 SOLD

Bundle Price for #1-4: $750 (for posterity sake, it’d be nice to see these exceptionally well-preserved examples kept together in a Sheaffer collection)

5. c.1936 Canadian Sheaffer Balance 5-30 (Golden Brown, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone XF nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 1/2” capped. Everything mentioned about the aberrances of the Golden Brown pen (#1 above) applies to this pen as well. For more info about these unusual Canadian models with “reverse trim,” see the description of pen #1 above. This pen and the next are made still more unusual by virtue of their peculiar, WASP-like dagger clips that're known to crop up from time to time (WASP was a sub-brand of W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co.). 14k two-tone Sheaffer Balance 5-30 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent [B]. See description of pen #1 for the personal history of these first 6 pens. Nickel-plated trim, which was especially susceptible to brassing and corrosion, is clean aside from a peppering of wear to the top of the clip and cap band on the sides of the cap. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable flaws - scarcely even any microscratches. Ink-view window has yellow color and excellent transparency. Canadian manufacturer imprint on barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $190 SOLD

6. c.1936 Canadian Sheaffer Balance 5-30 (Jet Black, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone XF nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 5/8” capped. Everything mentioned about the aberrances of the Golden Brown pen (#1 above) applies to this pen as well. For more info about these unusual Canadian models with “reverse trim,” see the description of pen #1 above. This pen is made still more unusual by virtue of its peculiar, WASP-like dagger clip that's known to crop up from time to time (WASP was a sub-brand of W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co.). 14k two-tone Sheaffer Balance 5-30 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent- [B-]. Nickel-plated trim, which was especially susceptible to brassing and corrosion, is clean aside from moderate brassing to the cap band and two short (approx 2-3mm) slivers of brassing on the side edges of the lever near the center visible under a loupe. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable flaws - scarcely even any microscratches. Ink-view window has amber color and decent transparency. Canadian manufacturer imprint with 1936 patent date on barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $150 SOLD

7. c.1936 Sheaffer Balance Statesman (Golden Brown, celluloid, GPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone M “Waverly” nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 1/2” capped. The Statesman was one step down in size from the oversized Balance Premier but was sold for the same price ($10.00). This one is made of Golden Brown striated celluloid complemented by gold-plated furniture. Streamlined radius clip, white dot signifying Sheaffer's lifetime guarantee, and transparent ink-view section window for checking ink level. 14k two-tone Sheaffer Lifetime nib has a slightly upturned point from the factory in the “Waverly” style to enhance smoothness (see DETAIL PHOTO). It lays down a smooth and consistent M line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: near mint [B+]. Gold-plated trim is pristine with no brassing or other noteworthy blemishes. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable flaws - scarcely even any microscratches. Ink-view window has orange color and excellent transparency. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $240 SOLD

8. 1934-5 Sheaffer Oversized Balance Premier (Grey Pearl w/ Red Veins, celluloid, GPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone F/M nib). This oversized model has a thick girth and measures 5 9/16” capped. This pen is made of celluloid in a color patten consisting of grey pearl marble interspersed with brilliant red veins. Made for just 4 years from 1931-5, it’s one of the most difficult OS Balance colors to track down (this is the first I’ve ever offered in 20 years of sales). And it’s especially tough to find clean since it was prone to discoloration, cracks, and destabilization of the plastic – flaws completely absent from this example. Gold plated trim including flat ball clip. White dot signifying Sheaffer's lifetime guarantee. 14k two-tone oversized Lifetime Balance nib lays down a smooth and consistent F/M line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent/excellent+ [B+]. Color is superb – evenly grey across barrel and cap. Gold-plated trim is exceptionally clean with no notable blemishes aside from a triangular spot of brassing on each side of the cap band (see timestamp photo) and typical spots on the sides of the clip ball. Thinning to the Rhodium plating on the nib. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable flaws - scarcely even any microscratches. No signs of crystallization or destabilization of the celluloid. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $630 SOLD

9. 1934-5 Sheaffer Oversized Balance Premier (Ebonized Pearl, celluloid, GPT, lever filler, 14k Two-Tone XF nib). This oversized model has a thick girth and measures 5 1/2” capped. Made of celluloid embedded with genuine abalone chips, Ebonized Pearl is one of the most sought after Balance colors. The chips of iridescent mother of pearl are a sight to behold in person, coruscating and refracting different colors under light. Oversized Balances are less common than smaller catalogued sizes but an OS Balance in Ebonized Pearl (made for only 5 years) is also tough to find. Gold-plated furniture including earlier, flat ball "Sheaffer's" clip. White dot on cap signifying Sheaffer's Lifetime guarantee. 14k two-tone oversized Lifetime Balance nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent+ [B+]. Gold-plated trim is pristine with no brassing or other notable flaws. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable flaws – a couple pin-sized nicks but scarcely even any microscratches. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is factory deep and fully legible. Price: $590 SOLD

10. 1950s Sheaffer Snorkel Triumph Set in Box w/ Papers (GF, lined pattern, Snorkel filler, 14k Two-Tone XF nib). This full-sized model measures 5 9/16” capped. This matching FP and twist-activated MP set comes in its original factory box with leaflet with filling instructions: BOX1 BOX2. Less common gold-filled exterior with repeating 5-line pattern. Cartouche for engraving on barrel indicates this being a slightly later model (see Jim Gaston's excellent article on these and other details of the Triumph model here). The pen features Sheaffer's famous Rube Goldberg Snorkel filling system, which provides a clean fill even from the very bottom of the bottle since only the Snorkel tube needs to be submerged (see DETAIL PHOTO). To fill one: (1) turns the blindcap to fully extend the Snorkel tube; (2) pulls the blindcap back to fully extend the pump; (3) submerses the Snorkel tube in ink; then (4) depresses the blindcap back into the barrel with one smooth stroke. Two-toned triumph nib with upturned Waverly-style point lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Typifies the smoothness and versatility of Sheaffer's upturned nibs. Condition: excellent+ [B+] Smooth, lustrous surfaces with no brassing, dents, dings, or notable blemishes to FP or MP apart from one dent on the top of the FP that can only be seen from the top – a very common flaw found on these GF models (see DETAIL PHOTO). All seals and sac were replaced and the pen now fills to factory capacity with no leaks and good pressure – shoots ink like a squirt gun if you’re feeling mischievous. MP is fully operational, propelling, retracting, and gripping lead as designed. Price: $260 SOLD

Considering illegally buying and taking drugs to self medicate ADHD. Pls advise me (serious)
Salam brothers/sisters,
I posted here previously about suspecting that I might have ADHD.
After digging into it, and watching hours and hours and hours of content from researchers and experts on the topic of adult ADHD (actual licensed psychiatrists, professors of psychiatry etc., NOT TikTok or something like that), it feels like they're literally describing me.
The consequences have been absolutely Br0otal.
I've finished less than 20% of the credits I'm supposed to have finished at University at this point, while studying something comparatively easy (Business Admin). In other words, I'm on track to finish a 3 year bachelor's degree in 15-20 years. Aka on track to drop out soon.
This is after having been a Top 1-3% student as a child, and later ~70th percentile for my A-Levels in Germany on literally zero studying. I speak 3 languages on a native level, with very little accent whatsoever.
So it can't be low IQ.
My executive function is so bad that I sit there bargaining with myself for like 2 hours in bed to get up and take a shower, or to make Wudu and pray. I've been meaning to apply for jobs for like a month now, still haven't done anything.
Had an appointment with a psychologist (one of the professionals legally allowed to diagnose ADHD in Germany). She confirmed some of my suspicions, but in the end said neither she nor any of her 4+ colleagues in the same practice do ADHD testing/diagnosis, and said I should go to a psychiatrist.
Getting a diagnosis will be like pulling teeth. For a number of reasons:
Waiting list for psychiatrists/ADHD clinics are minimum 6-12 months, with no guarantee that the psychiatrist even is willing to test me. I've heard of people spinning their wheels for 3-4 years even, being sent from one to the next with no results, or even proper testing done.
By that time, the damage to my chances at finishing University will be pretty much irreversible. Career chances dead, economic chances dead, marriage prospects entirely dead. It's a death sentence if I don't figure this out soon.
There are a few options:
  1. Go the official route, anywhere from 6-48 months
  2. Go the "pay out of pocket" route. 4-10 weeks. This removes the incentive to reject appointments because they can charge an appropriate amount and it makes economic sense (costs 500-700€, to be paid regardless of wether I get a diagnosis or not). Insurance wouldn't reimburse this, it would be my own money.
With a diagnosis, it gets easier to simply find a psychiatrist who will prescribe the drugs and monitor the response, adjust dosage etc., same story with Cognitive behavioral therapy. Both paid by insurance if a diagnosis is successful.
The main issue is the perverse incentive. I'm high functioning with several impediments to the normal diagnostic process (ie wanting to see report cards from ages 5-12, and having a parent confirm the symptoms, both not possible for me), so it takes someone competent and empathetic to see past that. I worry that they'd simply take my money, tell me "yeah, u have many symptoms, but no diagnosis without parent conversation and report cards". People from the German ADHD sub have indeed mentioned this happening in "out of pocket" practices as well, though of course less than insurance ones.
500-700€ is a lot of money for me (~20% of my entire savings, this money is literally my emergency fund), I can't afford to be doing 2 or 3 attempts at this.
  1. Find coping strategies and try to cope without meds until the official route is underway in 6-12 months.
I doubt the effectiveness of this. I've tried almost everything you can imagine to instill discipline and good habits, literally nothing works. Even the psychologist already told me, CBT won't do sh1t for you if you're unmedicated, it's usually a good recommendation ON TOP of medication, not on its' own.
The main strategy would be to job Maxx now, do like 60-70% course load with the easiest courses to pass (ie more like 20-30% effort wise) for this semester with the help of some sort of accountability partner to force me to study them, could even be my parents, and basically bide my time until next semester, hoping that an appointment is available then, and I get diagnosed and medicated BEFORE the exam season of next semester.
This could work temporarily, but not in the scenario where it takes longer than 6-7 months for an appointment.
  1. Get drugs illegally to self medicate.
Oh how the mighty have fallen. I've never smoked, never drank, nothing, and here I am seriously considering getting stimulant drugs.
The big issue of course would be testing purity of the drugs, and knowing what to take and how much.
Getting them shouldn't be too big of an issue where I live.
The advantage is obvious. If they work, I can take my time until appointments are available knowing that my life isn't being irreversibly damaged in the meantime because I can concentrate.
The disadvantages are obvious too. Potential addiction, impure drugs, the drugs not working because wrong dose/drug, getting caught and prison Maxxing and many more.
Under normal circumstances I would never even consider this.
  1. I have an relative who's licensed to diagnose and prescribe these drugs. No clue if he knows anything about adult ADHD, he's quite old, nobody would've even mentioned it when he was studying or getting licensed. I think he'd take my parents side and deny anything being wrong with me.
Can't trust him to be objective, but idk because I didn't grow up with him being there. But probably worth a try if I'm already considering things as insane as option 4, probably better showing up and talking to him. Ik it's very sus. 10% chance he actually takes me seriously and keeps it a secret, and refers me to one of his connections for an appointment sooner than is officially available anywhere.
Currently, I'm leaning towards the following:
Exhaust option 1. There are a good 1000 ish numbers to call within a 3 hour radius. Of whom maybe 100 are qualified and do adult ADHD diagnosis, of whom maybe 20-30 have a waiting list. Worth trying, but the chances are low.
Job Maxx ASAP, and move on to options 2 and 3 simultaneously. Already have a promising lead for job Maxxing, lucrative gig but nothing regular, and has nothing to do with my studies, ie I still need a normal student job for 10-15 hrs/week, preferably something in my field before I become entirely unemployable, something to get my foot in the door so to speak. There are like 3-4 months (but 2 of those being exam season, but I'm disregarding that knowing that in the past I never studied properly anyway, so plan 3 would allow to disregard it) where working can be just for increasing savings, after which I'll be kicked out of the student stipend for not having enough credits, and will need the work to pay for my living expenses. Realistically, if I play my cards perfectly and get lucky, I could increase savings by €3-4k in 3-4 months.
If options 2 & 3 fail, buy a small amount of drugs illegally for exam season, and resume options 2 & 3, maybe even option 1 if it's soon. If the drugs work, probably continue taking them until shortly before diagnosis appointments.
I know it's completely insane, but that's where my thinking is at after seeing how bad it is with regards to getting diagnosed/treated, or even getting an appointment in the near future, in Germany.
Pls talk some sense into me.
If you're uneducated about ADHD or it's debilitating consequences, symptoms, causes etc., and seriously want to comment "just try harder Brahh!", "just go Jim Brahh!", "Just fix your diet/sleep Brahh!" or some variation of that, don't bother. You'll just get humiliated like the 1-2 LowIQcels on my last post who tried that. Take your ignorance somewhere else, I'm not your guinea pig. This is as useless as "Don't have bread? Let them eat cake!".
I love how a licensed psychologist will have no problem saying "Bro, CBT has only a tiny benefit without medication", but some dude on Reddit will seriously be out here saying Ashwaganda or some Gym exercise is a magic pill lmao 😂. Dunning Kruger effect is very real.

The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books and it’s time to recap all the action. Thursday started off pretty chalky until the Atlanta Falcons sent shockwaves across the internet when they selected Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. eighth overall. We didn’t see a defensive player selected until pick number 15. Late in the first round leading into day two, we saw a big run on wide receivers, which the depth of the class was illustrated by 35 total names coming off the board. Offensive tackle came in close behind that with 27 selected and cornerback actually edged out the WRs by one more taken (36), as the two other quality position groups. The big surprise was that we didn’t just get six quarterbacks inside the top-12 to set a new record, but then it took 138 additional spots before we got to QB7.
In this article, I’m going to break down the biggest winners and losers from the weekend, which can be teams overall in terms of the hauls they put together, individual players, coaches or general managers. After that, we’re getting to the biggest steals and reaches, based my individual rankings, consensus boards and general circumstances. All of this of course comes with a certain level of subjectivity and it’ll be another three years before we can make any definitive statements on these new members of the NFL, but I strongly believe in team-building through the draft, understanding where you can acquire value, how to maneuver around the board and how this piece fits into the puzzle, as you consider the way you’ve positioned yourself coming in and the vision behind the operation.
Let’s get into it:

Pittsburgh Steelers

We have back-to-back appearances by the Steelers and I thought this year they knocked it out of the park even more so this year. And we saw their draft reflect very well how one term has dictated their entire offseason – patience. It showed in the way they spent a sixth-rounder (who could bump up a couple of rounds based on playing time) for a QB room of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, who cost them 4.5 million dollars this year. They signed a couple of starters at key spots in linebacker Patrick Queen and safety DeShon Elliott under expected value and while the late-round pick-swap paired with the Diontae Johnson-for-Donte Jackson trade isn’t a net plus, it feels like they had a player there who didn’t fit in with the culture anymore.
As for this draft class, of their first five picks (20, 51, 84, 98 and 119), all of the players they selected were (in some cases significantly) higher on my personal big board compared to where they got them. Washington’s Troy Fautanu became OT6 selected as someone with elite movement skills, projecting well as someone who can offer positional versatility, even if the raw strength isn’t quite up there with the guys ahead of him. Then they came back in the second round and got what arguably was the best pure center in the class, if not for breaking his leg at the end of the college season, in West Virginia’s Zach Frazier, who is a perfect fit for new OC Arthur Smith implementing his outside zone-based run scheme. Michigan’s Roman Wilson at one point was projected to be a potential surprise pick at the end of the first round with how he was routing everybody up during Senior Bowl week, coming from an environment that didn’t lend itself to major production, but he was the guy the Wolverines relied upon when they needed to move the chains (38 of his 48 receptions last season resulted in either a first down or touchdown). I had a late first-round grade purely based on the tape of N.C. State linebacker Payton Wilson, who brings premiere speed, play-making skills and effort, but saw his career marked by injuries until becoming the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. And while they already had a couple of veteran guards under contract for this year still, South Dakota State’s Mason McCormick was an absolute ass-kicker in the run game for the FCS champion Jackrabbits, then had basically a flawless week of Shrine Bowl practices, especially in one-on-one pass-pro drills, and ultimately finished with a top-ten relative athletic score (9.97) for guards.
Iowa interior D-lineman Logan Lee (178th overall) and Ryan Watts (195th overall) also both feel very much like Steelers players in reserve roles. So not only did they probably find a starting receiver and linebacker as rookies, I mentioned this on social media, who a little more than a calendar year ago, Pittsburgh probably had a bottom-three offensive line and now they’ve literally improved all six spots, if including their primary backup.
.
.

Aidan O’Connell & Gardner Minshew

I’ll get to the validity of the six quarterbacks who were ultimately selected in the top-12, but coming into last Thursday night, if you replace the Giants with the surprising Falcons, there were seven teams in the market for a young signal-caller in that range plus the Raiders at pick 13. As it turned out, they were the ones to miss out on the group. Personally, I thought there was a good chance they might trade up, if the Commanders preferred North Carolina’s Drake Maye compared to LSU’s Jayden Daniels, since new head coach Antonio Pierce has the connection with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner from the days of being involved in his recruitment at Arizona State. As it turned out, Las Vegas didn’t end up moving, despite reports on them trying trade up as high as second overall, and with the record-setting six names selected until the Silver and Black were on the clock, they instead got the final one of the four premier pass-catchers in Georgia tight-end/all-purpose weapon Brock Bowers.
However, it didn’t stop there. The Raiders actively passed on possible options with all of their final seven picks (one in each round, other than two in the seventh). In fact, there was a 138-pick gap between QB6 and QB7 – which I’ll get to more later on – and I personally think all five of the remaining guys drafted (even if Tennessee’s Joe Milton III is objectively pretty raw) had starter traits, at least in relation to Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew, who along with Anthony Brown – an undrafted free agent from two years ago – and Carter Bradley (South Carolina) as their own UDFA pickup following Saturday, make up that quarterback room. Instead, along with Bowers 13th overall, they brought in my personal top-ranked center Jackson Powers-Johnson from Oregon (44th overall), a long and athletic tackle/guard developmental prospect in Maryland’s Delmar Glaze (77th overall) and later on what might be the best pass-catching back in this draft in New Hampshire’s Dylan Laube (206th overall).
So not only did Vegas miss out on the top of the class of signal-callers, but they didn’t even take a shot on anybody else outside of what I look at as a potential QB3 as a UDFA and then they spent their picks in the first three rounds on another offensive weapon and addressed the O-line, along with upgrading their third-down back with Laube, in my opinion. I thought O’Connell showed some real signs last season, even though he may be somewhat limited, and Minshew did nearly lead the Colts to a playoff berth, even if the tape showed obvious flaws. So for the Raiders to come out of this draft with no real competition to those guys has be counted as a massive W for them – although I think they were a perfect candidate to take at least a day-three swing on someone.
.
.

The university of Michigan

Two years ago, I talked about Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, when they set a new record for most players selected off one team in a year with 15. After them, there are two college programs with 14 each (2004 Ohio State and 2020 LSU), before the Wolverines come in at 13 total names. As you look at that list, the big difference between them and the other groups in that range, is that they’re the only one of 14 teams with 11+ guys drafted, who didn’t have multiple first-round picks. That speaks to the kind of infrastructure they’ve built, where they don’t rely on individual star players, have guys coming back for their senior years in order to compete for a championship and still set themselves up for a future in the pros.
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy went 10th overall to the Vikings, which was slightly lower than betting services had it, but like two rounds higher than where many people considered him when Michigan won the National Championship in early January. So that speaks to the fact their style of play offensively, which makes the quarterback more of a complementary piece, doesn’t necessarily hurt more potential high recruits at that position, while not as much is put on their plate. They quickly turned Mike Sainristil from a wide receiver into arguably the top pure nickelback in the class and the 50th overall selection (Commanders), interior D-lineman Kris Jenkins Jr. went a pick earlier (Bengals) despite limited production in more of a read-and-react style of front, Jim Harbaugh himself (Chargers) grabbed Junior Colson as LB2 off the board, A.J. Barner was a fourth-round pick as somewhat of a one-dimensional player because they turned himself into the top blocking tight-end in the class and even guard Zak Zinter was a third-rounder despite breaking his tibia and fibula.
The two guys that went a little later than I might’ve expected were running back Blake Corum (83rd overall), who was recovering from a torn ACL but will be sharing the Rams backfield with who many comped him to in Kyren Williams, and Roman Wilson (84th overall), who landed in the pre-eminent spot for mid-round wide receiver production in Pittsburgh. The only prospects I had draftable grades on who didn’t get selected were center Drake Nugent and edge defender Braiden McGregor. And even with those two, you see a path why they wouldn’t hear their names called, due to size and injury concerns respectively. So the Wolverines check the three key factors for high school recruits – a top-ten university in terms of education according to Time Magazine, a proven winner (40-3 record over the past three seasons combined) and now also an NFL machinery, under the leadership of former offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore taking over for Jim.
.
.

Green Bay Packers

Looking through some draft grades out there, just for fun, I couldn’t that they were middle of the road at best, when I think you can make a strong case that the only class you should put above theirs is the already discussed Steelers. Simply from a process perspective, they came into Thursday with one pick in the first round, two in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and fifth each, plus two in the sixth and seventh each. Ultimately, they moved back four spots in the second round (from 41 to 45) and in return – through multiple other trades – they moved up 11 spots in the fourth round and 56 spots from the sixth to the fifth round (from 219 to 163). Based on that alone, the accrued value, before we even get to the names they used that capital on.
Now, the first round is where some people may arguably they slightly reached on Arizona’s Jordan Morgan, who is argued to be moving inside to guard because his arms came in an eighth of an inch short of the general 33-benchmark, but he has some of the best mirror skills and ability to block on the move in this entire class, was a first-team all-conference performer in the loaded Pac-12 in a season coming off a torn ACL and was 31st on my personal big board, compared pick 25, where they ended up selecting him, as the seventh of nine offensive taken in the first round. In the second, they addressed their two biggest defensive needs, with Texas A&M’s Edgerrin Cooper (45th overall), as an uber-athletic, long linebacker to pair up with a former first-rounder in Quay Walker, and a teammate of the second-year breakout from Georgia in Javon Bullard (58th overall), who has plenty of quality experience as a nickel and deep safety, as a potential upgrade over Darnell Savage, who left in free agency. In the third round, they selected what I believe is the most talented all-around running back in Marshawn Lloyd (88th overall), in terms of short-area explosiveness, start-stop ability and power, if he can fix his ball-security issues, and what I consider their only questionable selection in Missouri linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper, who brings a lot of speed and violence to the table, but still needs to learn how to read blocking schemes and clean up his massive missed tackle rate.
Day three is where they really won be over however. They got a couple of my personal favorites at the safety position in Oregon’s Evan Williams (111th overall) and Oregon State’s Kitan Oladapo (169th), who I personally had 11th and fourth(!) in my rankings at the position. They played in fairly similar systems and it might give us some insight into what new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has planned, as they’re both excellent in two-high structures, where they can read and drive on what’s in front of them, but can also drop down into the slot against bigger bodies. Duke’s Jacob Monk (163rd overall) I got to late in the process, but really liked his physicality and experience at both guard and center. Georgia State tackle Travis Glover (202nd overall) is a lot rawer, but has some developmental qualities. And then their two seventh-rounders are definitely worth taking shots on – I’ll go into more detail about Tulane QB Michael Pratt in the “steals” segment and Penn State corner Kalen King was still projected to be a potential first-rounder a year ago, before plummeting since then.
.
.

Bryce Young

While I already discussed Raiders quarterbacks Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew as big winners, based on strengthened job security and opportunity to start for their team, that was never a discussion with last year’s first overall pick Bryce Young. However, even though Panthers owner David Tepper had another infamous moment hours before the draft actually started and I have questions about the class they acquired overall, in terms of helping their guy under center, I’d argue nobody has had a better offseason than Bryce. Before we even got to the actual draft, they hired former Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales as their new head coach, after helping resurrect the career of another former number one pick in Baker Mayfield. In free agency, they spent an average of 33.25 million dollars on a new guard tandem with Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis, to slow down the interior pass-rush that was seemingly omnipresent this past season, and then they trade cornerback Donte Jackson for former Steeler Diontae Johnson (combine with a late-round pick swap), who has been a low-end WR1 when healthy.
Heading into Thursday night, the Panthers weren’t even slated to pick due to trading up for Young a year ago, but they moved up one spot – which once again can be questioned in terms of their process behind it – in order to get South Carolina’s Xavier Legette with the final selection of round one. At 6’1”, 220 pounds, he can own the catch-point thanks to his physicality paired with 32-inch arms and a 40-inch vertical. Yet, he also becomes a locomotive with the ball in his hands capable of dragging defensive backs along, if he doesn’t just turn on the jets with that 4.39 speed. You don’t love the late breakout profile and he still needs some refinement as a route-runner, but understanding his background and why it took him a little longer, you at least like to bet on that of skill-set. Once again, I’m not sure if I love the idea of trading up for a running back in the second round, at least not ten spots ahead of the Cowboys as the one team where their owner was also yapping too much that they were “high, high, high” on Texas’ Jonathon Brooks (46th overall), but aside from the torn ACL he suffered in November, he was the top RB on many teams’ boards. He brings that gliding running style with excellent balance that should make him a better pure rusher than any of the guys they already had on the roster, plus then you really like his receiving profile, having caught 25 passes for nearly 300 yards in 11 games last season. And then, with the first pick of day three they selected another former Longhorn in tight-end/H-back Ja’Tavion Sanders. Similarly to teammate Adonai Mitchell falling, there were some unnamed character concerns that led to him being available at least a full round later where he was projected to go, because he was my 42nd overall prospect purely based on tape and will once again be discussed more extensively in the “steals” segment, as someone who can threaten the seams and be a run-after-catch specialist.
So now all of a sudden, Adam Thielen in year 34 season won’t be the number one option but potentially all the way down at fourth. Canales will bring more creativity compared to the elementary passing concepts they relied upon during Bryce’s rookie campaign, they now have guys that can stretch the field horizontally as well as vertically, and their QB can actually stand in the pocket and see over the line instead of having the integrity of the pocket disrupted constantly.

.

Atlanta Falcons

This of course has to start with the pick that lit the NFL world on fire, as they shocked everybody by drafting Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. eighth overall. I will go more into detail on most of these quarterbacks in the “reaches” segment, but for the context of this, I had the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy 40 spots lower on my personal big board. So I think you could make a case for him to be a late first-rounder at least based on the benefit of a potential fifth-year option, but that’s the smallest issue here. Just 45 days before the draft kicked off, they signed free agent Kirk Cousins to a four-year, 180-million-dollar contract. That’s coming off a torn Achilles he suffered mid-season and while I’ve heard some people argue that this can be looked at as quarterback insurance, if they didn’t think the veteran would be ready by week one, how can you justify handed out a deal like that? And you’re actually facing disciplinary action from openly tampering with the guy!
I had high expectations for Atlanta’s offense going into this past season, but when they struggled to consistently move the ball, I thought Penix’s aggressive downfield passing could elevate them. That doesn’t however match with a situation where neither the rookie nor the veteran will be particularly comfortable under these circumstances. From all the people Cousins has close connections with, the words “trust” and “security” are up there at the top of the list, and don’t tell me that this is just like the Jordan Love situation – Sure, it was also surprising, but a disconnect between Rodgers and Packers was already developing and they drafted his eventual replacement 26th overall while making clear that this was a future investment into the 22-year-old. Cousins had barely settled in yet, there’s a real chance he may not be ready until the late parts of the offseason – when everybody in the organization has watched Penix sling it around at practice – and they used a premium pick on Penix just over a week before he turns 24. And the statement by general manager Terry Fontenot on Penix potentially “sitting him four or five year being a great thing” is just asinine, because that would entirely defeat the benefit or a rookie quarterback – which is already limited even if they take the earliest exit on Cousins two years from now, which still comes with 100 million dollars guaranteed – and that you still might have very limited tape on a top-ten pick in live action, aside from the fact of course this comes with opportunity cost of having selected their choice of the top defender in the draft or maybe having traded down. I could have listed easily listed Cousins here as well or the rest of that roster now having to deal with that distraction.
Now, while that’s the main crux here, I was also scratching my head when they traded up eight spots in the second round for Clemson interior D-lineman Ruke Orhorhoro (35th overall) in exchange for moving down 107 spots from the third to the sixth round. He could turn into a really useful player with alignment versatility, thanks to how low he plays, his combination of length, short-area quickness and play demeanor, but how he counters double-teams and approaches the initial phase of pass-rush reps still clearly need work. I actually had him slightly higher than consensus boards, but that was still 23 spots later than where he was ultimately selected. The rest of the prospects they picked came at appropriate value I thought, even though I didn’t have draftable grades on the final two, but they also didn’t draft one of their two main needs on defense – corner. When asked about it Fontenot ironically responded by saying “you don't want to reach in the draft”, when the pick they traded up from in the second round ended up being Rutgers DB Max Melton, who I and consensus boards had higher than Ruke for example.
.
.

Miles Sanders

In terms of more specific NFL veteran players, there aren’t a lot of guys who have seen a bigger fall from grace over the last calendar year than Miles Sanders. Now, this by no means is writing off his career entirely and I’m not going to act like he was set up for success under Frank Reich and Thomas Brown bouncing play-calling duties back and forth last season. However, after rushing for well over 1200 yards and 11 touchdowns behind the tremendous Eagles offensive line and being part of their run at a Super Bowl the year prior, Sanders went for just 432 yards on the ground and found the end-zone once, whilst averaging an abysmal 3.3 yards per carry. That was after the Panthers handed a four-year, 25.4-million-dollar deal and the only real competition on the roster being Chuba Hubbard. With what new head coach Dave Canales was able to get out of Rachaad White in Tampa Bay last season, there’s still a chance that Sanders can earn trust as the lead-back for this offense that added a bunch of other pieces, as I already mentioned, but that’s not the message this operation is currently sending and competition just got a lot stiffer.
It’s not just that Carolina selected Texas running back Jonathon Brooks in the second round, but they actually moved up six spots 46th overall to make sure they’d get RB1 off the board, jumping the Giants who might’ve been in the market for the position – they ultimately waited until the fifth round. Personally, I had Florida State’s Trey Benson as the top player at the position, but if Brooks wasn’t coming off a torn ACL, he would’ve been inside the 50 highest-ranked players overall for me. He may not an elite top gear, but he gets up to speed very quickly, is an efficient mover in his transitions, navigates well through condensed space as well as around bodies in the open field, with the contact balance to pull through loose wraps. In terms of the pass game, he wasn’t asked to run an overly complex route-tree, but he can be deceptive in his body-language, he has natural hands and consistently made the first man miss after the catch. So while some of the limitations that Sanders showed with the Eagles showed in terms of not being able to turn 10-15 yard runs into long touchdowns, I see more from him in terms of working in foot-fakes and pulling his legs out of the grasp of would-be tacklers as individual qualities. And watching how he made use of double-teams and pullers as part of Texas’ GT power plays, I like his projection into more of a gap-scheme run game which Canales will emphasize.
Along with Brooks, I also like the big-play potential Jaden Shirden from Monmouth provides as an undrafted free agent. It’ll be a long road to make the actual final 53, but I could see him getting elevated from the practice squad on a few occasions and demand a handful of touches, to go along with the rest of the bodies they had in Carolina last year already.
.
.

Kalen King & Leonard Taylor

There are two players in this draft who were projected to be likely first-round picks heading into the 2023 college football season and now actually both declared as true juniors. Penn State’s Kalen King was up there with Iowa’s Cooper DeJean and Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstry, who ultimately went back-to-back at the 40th and 41st overall selection, as the top corner prospects. Meanwhile, Miami’s Leonard Taylor was much more of a projection guy, but in terms of movement skills and flashes of dominance he showed on the interior defensive line, there was a lot to like, if he had continued on his developmental track. Yet, King barely squeezed in on day three as the third-to-last pick of the entire event (255th overall), while Taylor didn’t get a call until Mr. Irrelevant had already been announced, and he has since signed with the Jets. Let’s talk about how they got here individually.
During summer scouting, I had landed on King as my CB2 heading into the year and really appreciated his scrappy style of play. While he obviously didn’t come in with the same kind of length or NFL bloodlines as Joey Porter Jr. (33rd overall pick by the Steelers in 2023), watching Penn State tape, he was the better all-around corner. On 59 targets his way, he only allowed 27 completions on 5.8 yards pass thrown his way and one touchdown compared to three interceptions plus 18(!) PBUs, without getting penalized once. The numbers weren’t remarkably worse on fewer looks, but the ball-production dropped off dramatically, without any picks and just two PBUs. More importantly however, I thought the competitiveness toughness and aggressiveness he put on display was sub-par, highlighted by getting roasted by Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. for a second straight year, but approaching the matchup with more disinterest I felt. Then came the pre-draft process and I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a prospect tank his stock as much as King. King lost pretty much every single rep during Senior Bowl practices, where he just showed no confidence in his technique and regularly got blown by. Then he went to the combine and ran a 4.61, which reinforced concerns about his long-speed considering his 10-yard split was at least average.
As for Taylor, I was somewhat indifferent on his projection to the NFL, because he was so all over the place technically, his play-recognition and overall consistency. Nevertheless, I did see the potential and high-level moments on his tape. I’m not going to act like he was put in position to succeed all the time, in terms of alignment, what he was asked to do and to some degree probably his player developmental. With that being said, I saw basically no progression in 2023 or things that translate to the next level, with the flashes of dominance became less frequent. Both his number of sacks and tackles for loss were cut down to a third of their ’22 totals (3.5 and one respectively), while his PFF pass-rush productivity was nearly cut in half, down from 9.4 to 5.8. You see him just shoot into the backfield and blow plays up every once in a while when he was allow to attack upfield and you see him ride offensive linemen into the quarterback a few times, but he just doesn’t seem to really know what he’s doing out there yet. Then he went to the combine and for a supposedly freaky athlete, Taylor finished in the 40th percentile or worse in all the combine drills he participated in (excluding short-shuttle and bench press).

The old Eagles corner room

I’ll leave it up to you here if you want to look at the word “old” as in the former or their actual age, but considering how long those guys have been in the league by now, both are very fair. Looking at the personnel moves by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, the two they would definitely like to take back in retrospect were veteran cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry, who both received three-year contracts last offseason worth a combined 80 million dollars, with more than half of that number fully guaranteed. By the time this season rolls around, they’ll be 33 and 31 years old respectively and you saw them show their age this past year, as they went from both being Pro Bowlers to below-average starters, which particularly in Bradberry’s case can be considered a mild description. Yet, understanding where this franchise is, with a lot of cap hits of younger plays they’ve built the foundation around about to hit in future years, they didn’t let those financial implications affect their draft investments too much. They took the first corner off the board in Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell (22nd overall), without having to move up ten spots potentially, which was about where he was projected to be taken, and then they did actually move up ten spots in round two with their division rival Commanders to take advantage of the falling Cooper DeJean from Iowa (40th overall), who was considered a consensus day one guy, even if there was discussion about his ultimate position fit.
Mitchell was CB1 for me and the majority of people in the industry, finishing as the 12th overall prospect on consensus boards. Yet, with the first defensive player not coming off the board until pick 15 (UCLA edge defender Laiatu Latu to the Colts), in large part due to teams wanting to get their hands on the top wide receivers and tackles, along with the six QBs inside the top-12, this pushed everybody else down the board. You can read more about Mitchell as a steal in the next segment, but he was a superstar in the MAC who absolutely rocked this pre-draft process and if he played at a major program, he would’ve most likely been a top-ten pick in the majority of drafts. Meanwhile, DeJean was a bit more of a divisive name, because there was no consensus on where his best spot in the secondary may ultimately be. He almost exclusively lined up at outside corner this past season, but operated out of the slot regularly the year and at a little over six-foot, 205 pounds with his type of football IQ and spatial awareness as a zone defender, you could also project him to play some safety at the next level. With how well he tested and moved around during the Iowa pro day however, it felt like he secured himself a spot in the first round, which he was always projected to go in anyway, even coming off a leg injury.
Both of them project really well into a match-zone scheme under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, where they play off and trigger on what happens in front of them, since that’s what they were mainly asked to do in college as well. That’s why both of Philly’s veteran corners are put on notice, while DeJean could also push starting nickel Avonte Maddox, who they brought back for this season at a two-million-dollar price tag.

Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo – 22nd overall to the Eagles
There are obviously draft picks who went several spots later than where they were projected to come off the board and present better net-plus in terms of value, but when we can all agree that Quinyon was a steal in the first round even, we have to outline him here. This was my as well as the number one corner across and tenth overall prospect, while sitting two spots lower on consensus board. If you take into account the medical history UCLA edge defender Laiatu Latu (15th to the Colts), a strong case be made that Mitchell was the top defensive player on the board, yet with the rest of the league going offense only until the middle of the round and then focusing on the defensive front, he somehow makes it down to Philly. Some people actually had GM Howie Roseman trading up by around ten spots in order to get him, because they really needed to inject some youth into that corner room – as I already went over earlier – yet they stay patient and address their biggest need at great value without having to invest additional resources. He’s a perfect fit for Vic Fangio with his ability to click-and-close on routes from off-alignment and I think he has All-Pro potential.

All the first-round quarterbacks not named Caleb Williams and Drake Maye
I could have talked individually about at least three and you can make a case for all four other first-round quarterbacks here. This was a pretty unique year, because not only did we have three juniors in Caleb who won a Heisman at USC in 2022, Drake who was a quality starter for three years at North Carolina and J.J. McCarthy just helped Michigan win a national championship, with all three being top-six QBs in that recruiting class, but that was paired with three of these super seniors, who have changed schools across their six years in college and left their respective schools at the top of their games, as the top three in this past Heisman voting. Jayden Daniels (LSU) went second overall to the Commanders – over Drake Maye – when I thought he was a late first-round prospect. Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) was the big shocker at eighth overall, when I had him just inside my top-50 overall prospects. And even though the Vikings ultimately only moved up one spot for McCarthy, they did give up a fourth- and fifth-rounder for a six, in order to secure my QB6 and 64th player on the big board. They all have their warts, which I discussed extensively in my quarterback rankings, but what’s important here is that they got pushed up due to the amount of desperate teams inside the top-12, as they set a new NFL record for how early those guys came off the board. To some degree that also includes Oregon’s Bo Nix, who I’d typically be very critical of taking QB6 at 12th overall as the Broncos, but I did have him in a tier with Jayden Daniels as number 28 on my board, and they didn’t actually have to move up.
