Has anyone else had a similar experience?
TLDR: RJ, but turned into a weird game by partners ex. AITA? Have you had any experience with compulsions building over years? How did you overcome them? Have you struggled with RJ and body dysmorphia?
My boyfriend & I have been dating for over 4 years. Whenever we first started dating he showed me a picture of his ex & would talk about his ex gf what felt like me to be all the time. She was in every story he told & every old photo. At the time I had just gotten out of a relationship where the guy was obsessed with and constantly compared me to his ex. This felt kind of normal to me. I began to look at her social media. I wanted to know her and the version of my boyfriend she knew… I was jealous that she was and would always be his first love & first time. I hated that I thought she would always be special to him.
What was RJ turn into something else a year into our relationship, when she called my boyfriend randomly. He didn’t answer, and he immediately blocked her number. Green flags right? Yes, but it also made me wonder what her motives were… did she want him back? Had he done something to make her think he was available? Did he want her back? If she asked for him back, would he go? I began to investigate her on social media, and one time accidentally requested to follow her- I tried to take it back immediately, but she had already seen it.
She knew I was watching and she liked it. She later told me she thought of it like a game, I did too at first. She started communicating with me through the captions of her photos. It was mostly like “Hello,” “Welcome back.” My favorite was “feeling obsessive yet?” This moved from one social media platform to eventually tiktok. I was curious if she was watching me there too, so I thought I would experiment by creating tiktoks with the same sounds to see if she said anything- and it was like… a literal competition for likes. She noticed and she posted about me, multiple times. I blocked her and unblocked her repeatedly (to see if she was posting about me) after this. Apparently I happened to use the same audio as one of her friends, and this deeply offended her- she then decided to reach out to my boyfriend from various phone numbers sending him “proof” that I was copying her, none of which included the parts she played. Most of the videos were trends… My boyfriend didn’t really care about what she had to say but we also never reeeeeally talked about it.
Later I started going to therapy. I wanted to get better I wanted to heal. I felt the need to apologize, so I sent her a message apologizing and requesting her to block me as I thought this would help me. (I did not ask my therapist I probably should have.) Not reply, no block. For a while I was fine, until the thoughts came back. Recently, I clicked on her story on one of the platforms I had her blocked and this caused her to text my boyfriend “proof” that I was looking at her stuff yet again. We were able to talk and I explained this isn’t a game to me and again requested that she block me if she doesn’t want me to view her story or public profiles. Thankfully, she blocked me and apologized for her part in feeding into my compulsions which makes me feel weird…
Since then I have been struggling with not looking… It feels like an itch that needs to be scratched.
Also- I hate myself? Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I am in dire need to speak to someone about what has been going through my head, but I have no one, so I'm posting this on Reddit. This is being cross posted on both aspergers and journalism to get insights from different perspectives.
Hello there, I am a 22 year old living in the USA. Over the last couple of weeks, a strong feeling of hopelessness has overtaken me regarding my future. In 2020, I went to community college immediately after high school to major in Meteorology. I shortly found out about how math intensive the major is, and being that I'm terrible at math, I changed to an undecided major. Talking with an career Councelor at the school, we found out that what I loved being in front of the camera. We zeroed in on Broadcast Journalism as a perfect career, so I changed my major to journalism. My comm college only offered a print journalism class, and at first I was worried that I would be terrible at writing articles, but I soon found out that was false. I ended up winning 6 awards in a state journalism competition, and started to enjoy what I was doing. Last week, I graduated from comm college, and am transferring to a four year college to get a bachelors in Broadcast Journalism.
All seemed so good until a few weeks ago when I began looking up more about this major. I am constantly seeing people saying not to get into it as news anchor jobs only pay $30K-$40k, have long and arduous hours, has a high turnover rate, and are extremely hard to get into.
I am also starting to believe that my autism will make it nearly impossible to me to get into the career. In my view, I feel like I am able to mask my autistic traits quite well. That is until I watch back videos of myself talking and realize just how bad I sound. And not to mention, the part I have struggled the most with in journalism is interviewing people. I get anxious very quickly when trying to come up with questions and responding in a way that makes it seem like I actually care. I've also gotten some real life experience, though it be basic, with being a host at my job. I frequently get odd stares from customers and afterwards I realize how awkward I was greeting them and such. I've tried my absolute best to improve on my social skills, but it is exhausting and I don't know if I would want to mask my autistic traits like that in order to be good in my career.
So now, I am regretting everything I've done over the last few years and what's to come. I think I'm going to try at least one semester, but after that I don't know what to do. I don't want to waste money on a degree that I can't use. My dad was so ecastatic after I won those awards, and I know I would devastate him if I told him I don't want to do journalism anymore.
Let me make this clear; it's not that I don't want to do broadcast journalism, it's that I think I don't have the ability to. My autistic treated are just too strong. But what is making me the most hopeless is that I don't know what I'll do if I don't go into broadcast journalism. I have no other aspirations, and I don't feel like starting college all over again. I worry that I'll never be able to make a living, and I'll be stuck with my parents my whole life. Most of my former classmates from my autistic support classes have either dropped out, are working jobs that won't get you anywhere, or haven't held a job in a while. It's a miracle that I have my job at the restaurant; it took me three years to even get it! The only reason I still have it is because my boss is also autistic. But it doesn't pay good, so it's not a job for a life time. I am just so scared that I'm about to end up like all of my former classmates.
So I am just asking for some advice. Any advice. I feel absolutely hopeless, and like I made a big mistake not realizing my abilities earlier on. Please help.

I am in dire need to speak to someone about what has been going through my head, but I have no one, so I'm posting this on Reddit. This is being cross posted on both aspergers and journalism to get insights from different perspectives.
Hello there, I am a 22 year old living in the USA. Over the last couple of weeks, a strong feeling of hopelessness has overtaken me regarding my future. In 2020, I went to community college immediately after high school to major in Meteorology. I shortly found out about how math intensive the major is, and being that I'm terrible at math, I changed to an undecided major. Talking with an career Councelor at the school, we found out that what I loved being in front of the camera. We zeroed in on Broadcast Journalism as a perfect career, so I changed my major to journalism. My comm college only offered a print journalism class, and at first I was worried that I would be terrible at writing articles, but I soon found out that was false. I ended up winning 6 awards in a state journalism competition, and started to enjoy what I was doing. Last week, I graduated from comm college, and am transferring to a four year college to get a bachelors in Broadcast Journalism.
All seemed so good until a few weeks ago when I began looking up more about this major. I am constantly seeing people saying not to get into it as news anchor jobs only pay $30K-$40k, have long and arduous hours, has a high turnover rate, and are extremely hard to get into.
I am also starting to believe that my autism will make it nearly impossible to me to get into the career. In my view, I feel like I am able to mask my autistic traits quite well. That is until I watch back videos of myself talking and realize just how bad I sound. And not to mention, the part I have struggled the most with in journalism is interviewing people. I get anxious very quickly when trying to come up with questions and responding in a way that makes it seem like I actually care. I've also gotten some real life experience, though it be basic, with being a host at my job. I frequently get odd stares from customers and afterwards I realize how awkward I was greeting them and such. I've tried my absolute best to improve on my social skills, but it is exhausting and I don't know if I would want to mask my autistic traits like that in order to be good in my career.
So now, I am regretting everything I've done over the last few years and what's to come. I think I'm going to try at least one semester, but after that I don't know what to do. I don't want to waste money on a degree that I can't use. My dad was so ecastatic after I won those awards, and I know I would devastate him if I told him I don't want to do journalism anymore.
Let me make this clear; it's not that I don't want to do broadcast journalism, it's that I think I don't have the ability to. My autistic treated are just too strong. But what is making me the most hopeless is that I don't know what I'll do if I don't go into broadcast journalism. I have no other aspirations, and I don't feel like starting college all over again. I worry that I'll never be able to make a living, and I'll be stuck with my parents my whole life. Most of my former classmates from my autistic support classes have either dropped out, are working jobs that won't get you anywhere, or haven't held a job in a while. It's a miracle that I have my job at the restaurant; it took me three years to even get it! The only reason I still have it is because my boss is also autistic. But it doesn't pay good, so it's not a job for a life time. I am just so scared that I'm about to end up like all of my former classmates.
So I am just asking for some advice. Any advice. I feel absolutely hopeless, and like I made a big mistake not realizing my abilities earlier on. Please help.

After reading everything on this sub and other subs related to this subject, I have since deactivated and blocked my cam site account in worry that my data or videos could potentially be breached or used against me.
This may come as an overreaction to everything I’m reading on this sub and others but how prone is my personal identification/info from being used as a scam against me? I imagine the only solid info they would have is my credit/debit info which has my full name, and my first name that was registered with the account. If I delete my email, then there is really no way for a scammer to reach me right? At this point it’s unlikely that any videos of me would have surfaced as it’s been a couple weeks since I last was using the site.

-I'm a sailor and often travel for work/frequently go off the grid. I love my job, but I realize it's definitely not the "normal 9-5" so it can get lonely at times realizing not a lot of people share this experience. Even though I just started this career a couple years ago, I am always willing to share boat stories and sea shanties ad nauseum. :p
-Currently bouncing between the PNW and the East Coast for work. I crave novelty and while I like to have a home base, I prefer a nomadic lifestyle. I have favorite places around the States!
-I am fairly active and definitely not a homebody. For me the day begins out of the house! Hobbies include easy-but-long hikes, cooking, yoga, foreign languages, Irish Dance, gym, running, sailing, learning about basic mechanical stuff, and visiting random places that are off the beaten path. Coffee shops and tie-dye things are also favorites!
-I'm not much of a gamer, but I do enjoy old-school Super Mario World and Mario Kart 8 from time to time. :)
-Mostly an extrovert, but enjoy occasional alone time. I thrive meeting new people, but also really appreciate my own place. Not looking to cohabitate. Usually drawn to people with a high level of social energy.
-Non-smoker and drinker and would prefer a similar lifestyle (social drinking is okay).

I started playing a few weeks ago and I've seen a few cards when opening packs that look interesting, but I can't find them when making a standard deck. I know the Timeless format would include all cards, so I found one of the cards in that card list, but I'm new, so I don't want to deal with such a wide card pool. But surely the card is legal in at least one other format, so I google it to look it up.
I find the card database on the official site for the game. The formats for the card include Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander. None of those terms are links to what they mean, so I have to look them up as well. It sounds like Pioneer is the most newb friendly, okay, so back to the game to make a Pioneer deck, right? Nope! Pioneer isn't on the format list in the game at all. So not only does the game give zero info about which format I can use my fancy new card in, the official site for the game lists formats for the card which aren't in the game at all.

I 45M have two kids, 12 and 7 with my first wife. We were married 10 years and dated for 17. Before marrying (A) while during a break up I fathered a child with a childhood friend we will call (B), that child is now 19. (A) and I worked through it and got married. I thought she accepted the mistake, and we would move forward. However, she made absolute hell for me to be present and an active father in the 19 Year Olds life. She treated him as a second class child, wouldn't allow him to visit regularly, say he cant come on family vacations, would cook for our shared kids and conviently forget the previous child was there and needed to eat. I had to constantly block and cover to make him not feel traumatized by this, but sadly it didn't work. He is not well emotionally.
I was a dumb ass and allowed this reprehensible behavior out of fear of making the youngest two statistics and truth be told because I have been in the same house with them their entire lives I have a different bond so divorce for this reason was out of the question. (A) justifed her actions as saying he is NOT our family, and he is an affair baby and its not fair she should have to share her husband with another woman. This brought 10 years of WAR in the home as I never accepted this and fought her nasty behavior every inch and fugured we would figure it out...I genuinely loved her. When I say hell I'm talking physical altercations, months of not speaking and sex, financial black male the works everything but infidelity.
I personally kept a cordial relationship through those times with (B) to at minimum go see my son on every other weekend (sometimes sneaking), attend as many of his parent and school events and provide for him financially even through protests from (A). (B) was a model baby mama. Never drugged me through the courts, never intentionally caused drama in my marriage although (A) swore anything good I wanted to do for the 19 Year old was because I had feelings for (B).
Fast forward to the 19 year old teenage years 16 17 and 18 the trauma started to become apparent and I needed to be involved more to help and try to still have a productive adjusted child. This made war and fights at home nuclear. As she didn't want him in our home (but I did), didn't want the younger kids to be all together with him (they love their brother) and I refused to back down. It came to head when a verbal altercation turned very close to physical and the 5 year old started crying and wanting to leave.

I 45M have two kids, 12 and 7 with my first wife. We were married 10 years and dated for 17. Before marrying (A) while during a break up I fathered a child with a childhood friend we will call (B), that child is now 19. (A) and I worked through it and got married. I thought she accepted the mistake, and we would move forward. However, she made absolute hell for me to be present and an active father in the 19 Year Olds life. She treated him as a second class child, wouldn't allow him to visit regularly, say he cant come on family vacations, would cook for our shared kids and conviently forget the previous child was there and needed to eat. I had to constantly block and cover to make him not feel traumatized by this, but sadly it didn't work. He is not well emotionally.
I was a dumb ass and allowed this reprehensible behavior out of fear of making the youngest two statistics and truth be told because I have been in the same house with them their entire lives I have a different bond so divorce for this reason was out of the question. (A) justifed her actions as saying he is NOT our family, and he is an affair baby and its not fair she should have to share her husband with another woman. This brought 10 years of WAR in the home as I never accepted this and fought her nasty behavior every inch and fugured we would figure it out...I genuinely loved her. When I say hell I'm talking physical altercations, months of not speaking and sex, financial black male the works everything but infidelity.
I personally kept a cordial relationship through those times with (B) to at minimum go see my son on every other weekend (sometimes sneaking), attend as many of his parent and school events and provide for him financially even through protests from (A). (B) was a model baby mama. Never drugged me through the courts, never intentionally caused drama in my marriage although (A) swore anything good I wanted to do for the 19 Year old was because I had feelings for (B).
Fast forward to the 19 year old teenage years 16 17 and 18 the trauma started to become apparent and I needed to be involved more to help and try to still have a productive adjusted child. This made war and fights at home nuclear. As she didn't want him in our home (but I did), didn't want the younger kids to be all together with him (they love their brother) and I refused to back down. It came to head when a verbal altercation turned very close to physical and the 5 year old started crying and wanting to leave.

So I've realized that one of the reasons I havent been enjoying multiplayer competitive games is the player culture. What is that? Well, I'll explain by example. Using Smash Bros, Dead by Daylight, and Tony Hawk Underground Pro.
Case 1: Smash Bros
As a long time fighting game player, I've always ran into an issue where I get to a point where there's no one I know who's fun to play with, they're either too good, or too bad. When I happened upon Smash as a kid, it was like a prayer being solved. The chaos of Smash ensured that skill gaps were less severe.
Eventually, the competitive Smash community became the most prevalent group of Smash players. Nowadays, I'm looked at as if I have brain damage if I want to play with items on. Most players don't even want to play on 90% of stages available in game, because they aren't close enough to Battlefield or Final Destination. Getting a group of friends to want to play 4 player free-for-all is a struggle even. Everyone would rather play 1v1 no items, 2:30, because that's how the competitive scene does it. I venture to guess its the same for many of you.
To me, this is ridiculous, why order a burger just to take off all the toppings? Of course, that's also a solved issue now. Due to the prevalence of the competitive scene, developers are finally earnestly trying to make platform fighters(a genre delineation that pretty much didnt exist for the first 15 years of smash's life, and btw, Shrek Super Slam is a Power Stone clone, not a Smash Bros. one), though pretty much only Rivals of Aether and Brawlhalla are relevant.
Either way, the point im making here still stands, Smash Bros. current player culture is no longer interested in the original selling point of the franchise.
Case 2: Dead By Daylight
This is more about the genre as a whole, for those who don't know Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric multiplayer game where theres 1 killer, and 4 survivors. Pretty much every other game in this genre is a horror game, so they all have similar culture.
In DBD, you'll often hear one player type complaining about the behavior of the other, and what actions are 'kosher' in gameplay. Killers are often expected to give player's the hatch, and of course, its a game where there's an objective benefit to camping. You can also choose to intentionally leave survivors downed, instead of putting them on a hook(effectively an altar you put someone on to cash out a kill), this is called slugging. as you can imagine its possible for a Killer to leave most players downed and just harass the living player around the map. On the flipside, Survivors can equip items to inhibit the Killer, whether it be a blinding flashlight, the ability to negate fall damage or quick heals. Both parties can do obnoxious actions to each other. Another odd trend of the player culture is survivors will just...wait...at the exit gate just to troll the killer and force them to be in the game longer, they may even make sure to tank some hits from the killer if they know the killer's ability isnt useful enough to stop them.
This results in a player culture where a "good" match is the one where both teams have to have a certain amount of charity to their actions, rather than just doing the most efficient actions to win. Seriously. Just go over to deadbydaylight and type '4K,' you'll get 100s of posts complaining about how the Killer's dedication to a swift victory is annoying.
Case 3: Tony Hawk's Underground Pro
This is a mod for THUG that returns the online features. The online features many of the game's single player content, just with the ability to score attack or time attack them with a lobby of people. The most popular being standard score attack. 2 minutes, get the highest score. There's just one issue. Anyone who's played enough Tony Hawk knows that if you're still in a combo when the timer hits 0, the run is still active.
Why is that a problem? Well, there is ONE domineering goal for the THUGPro community - Billing. Billing is the idea of playing to score a billion points. With the aforementioned timerstop - really only the last second of a Trick Attack run matters. It determines what you're doing with the next 5 minutes of your life. Either you are also attempting to Bill, going around the entire map doing an infinitely long combo, or you're combo was already over. Meaning you are now stuck waiting for the last currently active combo to end before the game mode ends. I've seriously been in lobbies where there was a single guy comboing for 10+ minutes while our only option was to leave lobby or wait.
Summary:
In each one of these cases, there's a completely different idea of what "the right way to play" is. The Smash community is concerned with a competitive ruleset, where chaos is pretty much eliminates any chance outside of character specific mechanics. DBD is concerned with maximizing fun for both parties, essentially using an honor system to eliminate the use of "cheap" tactics. And THUGPro epitomizes obsessiveness, since there's no direct player interaction, THUGPro players act as if there ARE no other players, despite the fact that the other players are restricted during play.
If you are like me, and find yourself bored and or miserable in a multiplayer game's landscape, despite liking the game mechanically. Keep the player culture in mind, personally, I'd honestly avoid MOST team based games, as it often just allows other players to blame each other for losses and mistakes. I'd also avoid games that have released more than 10 years prior to your first time playing, as they're often filled with very...anti-newbie players.

I am one of the only park windows devs for a vendor solution CMS and we maintain about 50 websites. It’s not able to run in a container and only runs .net 4.8 backend and a .net 8 client front end. For a year or more they (security, infrastructure and networking) are implementing zero trust initiatives and decided to do the devs first. Majority of the devs on Mac’s and containers have nearly zero issues. We work dev local iis or iisexpress with a local ms sql db to migrate to a new version of the vendor solution. No local admin access. No installation rights. And all but one folder is no modify by a user account. No registry access and event logs and services crash on open as no permissions. The corp laptop is encrypted and no usb access. These are only marketing websites with no pii, no logins and no access to internal systems.
A vendor build of the software uses visual studio, and usually we would build local and get the software working, then send to a larger repo to work deployments for others to use. However, a debug session can’t open ports. The app wants to build on mvc.exe in .net 8 as a client to talk to the admin app as a separate site locally. It can’t run and open ports for debug or connecting a browser to local. We can’t get iis or iis express or the self contained exe’s to talk to one another as it seems the ports are blocked, even local to local.
If I force the mvc.exe on debug to port 443 it loads further but with errors about not being able to read app data folders, modify its own files, check the keys in the registry, connect to the local hosted ms sql server and more.
We do not run AWS or Azure. Event grunt task runners fail at times as they want to do things on build. Nuget packages are sometimes allowed and others are blocked on the network access, so these fail and I have to put in a request for access to each failed url. Got an update package, we’ll make a new request. The solution is 180 packages.
I have spent 2 months with desktop support (clueless), sec. teams that say talk to network teams that say talk to infrastructure teams and nothing is getting done. The vendors app runs on a personal machine has no issues but there is no way to get it to the work machine. No usb and no access to sharing sites. Everything is explicit deny and ask for access.
How should I proceed? I have exhausted my mental stability to constantly bang head on walls for money. I have few internal connections and no one at work seems to be able to help or change the rules we work under. I get paid to fail over and over again and i miss being productive. I am afraid one day someone will take notice (so I document the issues daily, in a journal just in case it comes up). Worked here 6 years and I understand security… even the security architect told me that they should not have implemented how they did to devs.
The c-level demands a 99 or higher on some security scorecard. If you can’t vm, can’t get a lab like pc, can’t trust the local machine to be stable to work a massive migration project from .net 4.8 forms to .net 8 mvc… can’t gain access and have random security issues causing trouble randomly (like all local files are marked read/read exec, no modify) what in the hell should I do?
Even the manager is aware and has gone to the vp… but the sec rules are not to change. It’s been hell. If the job market wasn’t shit, I’d consider moving along. Pay is good. Productivity is shit. 10 min fixes, now take weeks.

AITA for respecting my late wife’s wishes about keeping her family out?
My wife unfortunately passed away last year when our daughter was only 3 months old. It was very difficult to get through but my little girl and I are keeping it together.
My daughter is 16 months now and there’s been pressure from my wife’s sister to let her side of the family see my daughter.
The issue is my wife had absolutely no contact with her family since she was 18, so 16 years of not seeing them. Her home life was something she never wanted to talk about.
It always made her upset so I never pushed her to tell me. All I know is they were manipulative and abusive in some form. She left as soon as she was 18, changed her last name and never spoke to them again.
4 years ago she got into contact with her older sister and she’s the only person my wife allowed into our lives. By that I mean we met through video chat but never actually in person.
We still maintained contact after my wife passed and we met a couple times before and during my wife’s funeral. My sister-in-law called me a few weeks ago. She mentioned her parents would really like to meet their granddaughter and want to start over.
They didn’t attend my wife’s funeral because they knew she wouldn’t want them to be there.
One thing my wife always made clear is that she did not want them near our daughter. Ever.
Telling my SIL this...well she got very upset. She said it’s been years and yes her parents were awful people (again won’t say exactly what they did) but losing their daughter has made them reflect on things. And they want to meet my daughter since my wife never gave them that chance.
She’s still trying to convince me and so far I’ve said no. Each time I just feel more and more bad for denying them but it’s what my wife wanted.
Her parents found my Facebook (pretty sure SIL might’ve told them) and I’ve gotten dozens of messages begging me to let my daughter know her moms side of the family. And I shouldn’t keep her from knowing her grandparents for past mistakes.
None of them will leave me alone and SIL has said a few times that I may be grieving losing a wife but to have some empathy for them losing a child. Because right now I’m being “too heartless” for denying them the chance to meet the only piece of my wife they have left.
I’m at my wits end with this because I’m not sure if I am being an asshole or not. I don’t know the whole reason why my wife never wanted to see them again. Even if I did though, I’d still like to honor her wish.
The way they are being however, makes it hard not to wonder if I am?

NTA. Do not let them have anything to do with your daughter. The last thing you want is to allow them to have a relationship with your daughter and then after a while you see exactly why your wife didn't want anything to do with them, because depending where you live if they have an established relationship with your daughter they can go for grandparents rights, as of right now they have no grounds. Cut the sil off to she's just giving you a taste of how toxic the rest of your wife's family are. Protect your child.

And do not believe the parents crap that they are grieving the loss of their child. They abused her and lost her completely 16 years ago. They deserve nothing.
The fact neither your wife or her sister can even indicate in even a vague or more generalised way the abuse that occurred, means it was truly horrendous.
Tell your SIL this is a permanent and hard no, and if she cannot accept and respect that fully (which means providing no information to her parents), then she cannot have contact with your child either. You need to be very very careful with her even if it appears she's going along with this. You'll likely need to cut her off too anyway, as she's already shown she's on their side.

Thank you everyone for all the lovely comments and support. I was really worn down with this whole ordeal so all your input was so very appreciated . There was a lot of you that expressed your concerns about what my wife’s family’s intentions were and warned me about taking precautions to keep my daughter safe. I have taken these into consideration and have made steps to ensure they have no access to any information that could disclose our location.
And yes in the end I did decide it was best to cut off all contact, not only with my wife’s parents but her sister too. I tried to get through to her many times about why I’d like to to respect my wife’s call on this since she knew her family best and what they did. Despite all the reassurance that her parents have changed she’s still refused do actually say what went down so that was not at all convincing for me.
Once I blocked them all I was getting calls from different numbers the following days. I sent one final message to her sister stating they’re never allowed near me or my daughter and if they ever tried to come harass us I will get authorities involved. Since then it was radio silence for the last couple weeks but I decided to play it safe a few days ago and changed my phone number.
I’ve also deleted my Facebook since I don’t use it that often but have put my other social media accounts on private. Got many great suggestions from many of you about how to make sure they have absolutely no access to my daughter so I really appreciate that! I’ve saved a few of these comments incase I need some extra tips in the future as my daughter gets older and starts school.
Since I last posted and have cut contact I feel like I can finally breathe. You have no idea how stressful and draining the whole thing was for me so really, thank you all for the help! I’ve been more at peace putting this all behind me and focusing on my beautiful little girl. I remember reading your original post and am happy to hear that you worked it out!
Based on the way your SIL was deflecting the question of what happened I think the reason why your late wife went NC (and why she never told you) would absolutely justify keeping your child away from them. The possibilities are endless but all progressively worse. If you know if the authorities were involved or other people in your late wife's life that would have an idea, it might be worth it to look into it/get a PI just so you have that peace of mind.

AITA for respecting my late wife’s wishes about keeping her family out?
My wife unfortunately passed away last year when our daughter was only 3 months old. It was very difficult to get through but my little girl and I are keeping it together.
My daughter is 16 months now and there’s been pressure from my wife’s sister to let her side of the family see my daughter.
The issue is my wife had absolutely no contact with her family since she was 18, so 16 years of not seeing them. Her home life was something she never wanted to talk about.
It always made her upset so I never pushed her to tell me. All I know is they were manipulative and abusive in some form. She left as soon as she was 18, changed her last name and never spoke to them again.
4 years ago she got into contact with her older sister and she’s the only person my wife allowed into our lives. By that I mean we met through video chat but never actually in person.
We still maintained contact after my wife passed and we met a couple times before and during my wife’s funeral. My sister-in-law called me a few weeks ago. She mentioned her parents would really like to meet their granddaughter and want to start over.
They didn’t attend my wife’s funeral because they knew she wouldn’t want them to be there.
One thing my wife always made clear is that she did not want them near our daughter. Ever.
Telling my SIL this...well she got very upset. She said it’s been years and yes her parents were awful people (again won’t say exactly what they did) but losing their daughter has made them reflect on things. And they want to meet my daughter since my wife never gave them that chance.
She’s still trying to convince me and so far I’ve said no. Each time I just feel more and more bad for denying them but it’s what my wife wanted.
Her parents found my Facebook (pretty sure SIL might’ve told them) and I’ve gotten dozens of messages begging me to let my daughter know her moms side of the family. And I shouldn’t keep her from knowing her grandparents for past mistakes.
None of them will leave me alone and SIL has said a few times that I may be grieving losing a wife but to have some empathy for them losing a child. Because right now I’m being “too heartless” for denying them the chance to meet the only piece of my wife they have left.
I’m at my wits end with this because I’m not sure if I am being an asshole or not. I don’t know the whole reason why my wife never wanted to see them again. Even if I did though, I’d still like to honor her wish.
The way they are being however, makes it hard not to wonder if I am?

NTA. Do not let them have anything to do with your daughter. The last thing you want is to allow them to have a relationship with your daughter and then after a while you see exactly why your wife didn't want anything to do with them, because depending where you live if they have an established relationship with your daughter they can go for grandparents rights, as of right now they have no grounds. Cut the sil off to she's just giving you a taste of how toxic the rest of your wife's family are. Protect your child.

And do not believe the parents crap that they are grieving the loss of their child. They abused her and lost her completely 16 years ago. They deserve nothing.
The fact neither your wife or her sister can even indicate in even a vague or more generalised way the abuse that occurred, means it was truly horrendous.
Tell your SIL this is a permanent and hard no, and if she cannot accept and respect that fully (which means providing no information to her parents), then she cannot have contact with your child either. You need to be very very careful with her even if it appears she's going along with this. You'll likely need to cut her off too anyway, as she's already shown she's on their side.

Thank you everyone for all the lovely comments and support. I was really worn down with this whole ordeal so all your input was so very appreciated . There was a lot of you that expressed your concerns about what my wife’s family’s intentions were and warned me about taking precautions to keep my daughter safe. I have taken these into consideration and have made steps to ensure they have no access to any information that could disclose our location.
And yes in the end I did decide it was best to cut off all contact, not only with my wife’s parents but her sister too. I tried to get through to her many times about why I’d like to to respect my wife’s call on this since she knew her family best and what they did. Despite all the reassurance that her parents have changed she’s still refused do actually say what went down so that was not at all convincing for me.
Once I blocked them all I was getting calls from different numbers the following days. I sent one final message to her sister stating they’re never allowed near me or my daughter and if they ever tried to come harass us I will get authorities involved. Since then it was radio silence for the last couple weeks but I decided to play it safe a few days ago and changed my phone number.
I’ve also deleted my Facebook since I don’t use it that often but have put my other social media accounts on private. Got many great suggestions from many of you about how to make sure they have absolutely no access to my daughter so I really appreciate that! I’ve saved a few of these comments incase I need some extra tips in the future as my daughter gets older and starts school.
Since I last posted and have cut contact I feel like I can finally breathe. You have no idea how stressful and draining the whole thing was for me so really, thank you all for the help! I’ve been more at peace putting this all behind me and focusing on my beautiful little girl. Just wanted to leave this update since I know there was a lot of concern about how this would all play out.

- This depends on how much time you have to dedicate to re-rolling. In general, all three of the beginner banner characters are great, and you have options of doing shortelonger re-rolls, as per this guide.

Just wanna tell this story in the hopes that maybe one person will see it. Alt account for obvious reasons.
Back in November 2023 I was arrested and charged with a felony after a car accident. Trying to clear my name and record has been literal hell, for something that i should not have been in legal trouble for.
I was rear ended in a construction zone, and after asking the other party for their insurance and them refusing, i called the police. The police told me that it would take a while for an officer to arrive, so to go down to the station and make a report. I could not do this as the other driving was blocking me in the parking lot we were in and threatened to kill me if i leave.
After the police arrived, they asked questions to both me and the other party, then asked me if i would like to press charges. I told the officer yes, as i was shaken up, and the other party tried blocking me in and refused to give their insurance. After this, the officers went back to talk to the other party, then came back to me and said i was being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as i had hit my brakes too hard, and the man behind me feared for his life.
I genuinely could not believe this and i thought the cop was joking or something, i had never been in trouble or charged with any crime before. But the officer told me it was a felony and i would have to go to jail and talk to a judge. He told me since it was early in the morning i’ll see the judge the same day. I stayed in jail for 30 hours before i even got to speak to anyone who knew what was going on, and i was released 48 hours after. When i saw the judge they told me my charge “Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon” but they said there was no evidence for such a charge and they would be releasing me.
So after being released i hired at attorney and paid $1500, who then told me all the charges were dropped and i have nothing to worry about. I didn’t know charges being dropped meant it was still on your record. This has made it extremely difficult to get a job and transfer schools as i’m only 20 years old and now have a violent felony on my record. The lawyer told me for $2000 more, they could help me to expunge my record. (I quite literally do not have that amount of money, and i shouldn’t have to pay it, when i was charged with a felony for a CAR ACCIDENT)
This entire process, after spending 2 days in jail especially over thanksgiving, has changed my entire outlook on life and law enforcement. I will never feel safe around law enforcement again, nor will i trust them to properly uphold the law.

2024.05.29 06:58 raineling Does anyone know of a guide or Youtube video or something to show you how to get IceWind Dale 2 Extended Edition to work with Lutris or Heroic or Proton?
I have been going around and around for weeks trying to just get this one goddamn game working. I see many people saying that proton "just works" with many older games. I have that installed. I also have Lutris and Heroic but everytime I hit the 'install' button in either application either the thing installs incorrectly or throws up a boat load of errors.
Right now I'm experimenting with Garuda but my main machine (a laptop) is Arch. I've been using linux since 2000 so I would have thought getting these old RPGs to work (IWD EE, Neverwinter Nights and another I'm forgetting) would be a cakewalk to get working. So far, on 4 different distros, I have failed everytime. I recognise the distros are not at fault but it's something to do with Lutris or Heroic or the installer scripts. What I don't know is how to fix it.
I have done my research to the best of my ability but the only guide I found was from a fellow who shows one how to make the original game with the Windows EXE functional through Lutris. That really doesn't help me much. Link to the video I found on Reddit to install the original IWD.

With the coming of Win 11 I decided to throw in the towel on Windows thinking that getting this to work shouldn't be too hard. Ugh.
As an aside, when people say they use proton do most just mean having that set of applications (proton or protonge or proton-up) installed so other apps can use it in the background? I'm an old girl who really never got into gaming on Linux so this part is all new to me.

The instrumentations aren't fixed yet so I'm looking for some flexible ensembles that i can assign. Ideally looking for pieces at band grade 4/5 or high school junior level or abrsm/trinity grades 6/7. Not looking for any particular styles or composers.
I've found so far the mixed trio version of triple scoop ice cream by satoshi yagisawa and thats more or less the kind of thing I'm looking for

What I'm going to describe now is something a lot of you maybe won't understand or think it's silly, but it's something real for me, and the reason I'll forever remember chants of sennaar as a game.
Since childhood I've always been fascinated with videogames, but I live in a third world country that unfortunately taxes everything through the roof.
So it is really hard to be able to enter this world for real here, just like thousands I've grown up watching others play on the internet cause it was the closest thing that little me had to be able to enjoy the games he loved so much.
Fast forward to nowadays, I got my Xbox one 2 months ago and took one month for me to begin signing gamepass, and in gamepass I found chants of sennaar never having heard of it and after reading the description it gained my interest and I downloaded it.
Today at exactly 01:37 AM I managed to finish the game's true ending, the first time that I finish a game myself, not watching others play it and a game I found myself too.
I know it might sound ridiculous that me currently at 19 y old is crying because of a videogame that doesn't even have a sad ending.
But idk what to say honestly, how do explain this feeling? I don't even know why I decided to post this.
I just feel so happy...really happy.
Things have not been easy recently, looking for a job, looking into college options, having to support my small brother through the divorce of my parents, and all of that without most my friends since (I live in a pretty countryside town and my school was in another town).
But even tho things might not been easy, atleast today the nerd child inside my heart has the satisfaction to see that it can finally seek solace in the hobbie it loved so much.
Anyways, that's my motive why I think this game will probably stick to my memory like bubblegum.
If you're getting in the game now or anytime soon relish every single moment, you have a wonderful journey ahead.
And if you find myself in the same situation I grew up in, Bright up! One day you'll reach that which you desire so much.
