Undecided on next New Vegas build

2024.05.14 09:07 Deadsea-1993 Undecided on next New Vegas build

So I'm wrapping up another playthrough of Fallout 4 and I'm itching to jump back into New Vegas to do some stuff I've yet to do in all of my playthroughs. Such as a NCR+Brotherhood of Steel United playthrough, work for the Powder Ganger faction, then unite The Enclave remnants finally.
I'm also going to be doing a Companion heavy playthrough. I do know
So this is what I'm thinking already
10 Luck. Hey, guy got shot point blank in the head, survived, then also was dug up before he could suffocate due to a lack of air. I think that people miss that last part.
Also I'm thinking high Agility and Endurance cause Courier has tracked many miles over various areas before the game even takes place.
I am thinking of a 1 intelligence, low speech skill, low science skill, and 1 Charisma cause I usually talk my way through stuff and I don't want to do that this run. Though this may impact companion dialogue so should I just do a seperate run of this in the future ?
There also was only 1 Joke low intelligence speech check in Fallout 3 and it was hidden where you're in a school and a hall pass robot can guide you to the special ed classroom. I'm curious to see all of the joke speech checks in New Vegas since I went Sarcastic in Fallout 4 and loved the dialogue. This is something I've never done before in New Vegas.

So screen goes black, then GPU revs up. It still seems operational but is not displaying, happens mostly when opening a game but also sometimes for no reason in particular.
DDU’d the drivers and reinstalled still no.
Nothing was changed beyond these two parts. It worked fine for months all of a sudden problems

2024.05.14 08:56 Zealousideal_Set8303 BSODs when downloading some apps along with random ones

A month ago I started having random BSODs from Ntfs.sys, but was unable to fix it, the BSODs stopped randomly. I had another BSOD a couple days ago after not facing any problems since the second week of April.
On 5/11 I had a BSOD after closing a game(Valorant by Riot). Yesterday(5/12) and today(5/13) I had many BSODs and was able to cause some by trying to download a game from the Riot Client(yesterday) and another time from Steam(today), I am able to download from Chrome or Edge with no problem and can torrent without getting a BSOD. I tried deleting the game and the client that caused the original BSOD from April, but am still facing the same issue.
The minidumps point to Ntfs.sys and I have two different error messages pop up when I start windows. I also cannot install Windows Update "2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441)" and receive an error when trying to install it (Error Message #3).
Messages on Startup(after login):
When trying to install update:
Both startup error messages popup twice before closing. Below is everything I have tried already
From Event Viewer: "chkdsk /scan" is aborting due to self-healing command failure: 0xc0000102 "chkdsk /f" will be required to repair the volume. An unspecified error occurred (6e74667363686b2e 1285).

2024.05.14 08:41 Acceptable_Rice_3021 Is it worth buying a refurbished MacBook Air/Pro from Amazon ?

Looking as a daily driver laptop. I already have a PC to handle the bulk of my work, gaming, etc and I would love to have a Mac that I can do basic/semi advanced tasks in excel, watch movies on Netflix, prepare reports on Word/Pdf. I do not plan on running any engineering software or IDEs on the Mac.
I saw some good deals on refurbished Macs on Amazon for ~ $400-550 and was wondering if it’s worth it. I already have the rest of Apple ecosystem (iPhone, watch, iPad, AirPods) so this will fit in nicely with the rest. I do plan on taking the laptop when I travel around so I appreciate the low weight and fast startup that Mac’s come with.

2024.05.14 08:38 Zoddom Help DirectX constantly crashing (Win11)

Hey, so I dont know exactly when this started, but Ive had this problem for a month or two already in my most demanding games (flightsim) and since a week or two it has constantly been happening in every game that I play.
The game just randomly and suddenly freezes/crashes with mostly no error. The one message Ive got told me something about .net framework, which I suspect is wrong, because my crash logs showed me that its DirectX losing connection. ("024-04-01 11:52:18.093 ERROR DX11BACKEND (18376): DX device removed. Reason: 0x887A0006")
Ive read that this is can happen when the game engine takes too long to respond and a bandaid fix would be adding 2 registry dwords to make directx/windows wait longer for a response. I dont wanna rely on that though and wanna fix the cause.
Ive tried everything so far, uninstalled and reinstalled several different gpu driver versions, verify game files, delete directx from registry etc.
But since Win11 "includes" directx there is no real reinstall I can do here, so does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks.

2024.05.14 08:21 Some_Ask_2220 I am having the worst time with my OC

I am having the worst time with my OC
I am having the worst time I ever had with my PC
About 20 days ago, I started encountering a blue screen issue that constantly crashed my PC regardless of what I was on (discord, games, chrome, etc). I’ve done multiple tests trying to confirm where the problem is but nothing seems to work. Please find below the error codes and what I have tried to do to identify and rectify the issue.
BSOD Error Codes:
*IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL *SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED *PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA *DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL *CACHE_MANAGER *EXCEPTION_ON_INVALID_STACK
Attempts to Identify and Rectify Issues as of 20 days ago:
*Reinstall Windows - I have tried this several times, continues to crash or come up with an error that it cannot be done. * Uninstall GPU driver and uninstalled GeForce * Windows Memory Diagnostics - no errors came up. * eject memory and try it one by one to see if one or the other has an issue * sfc /scannow - first time I tried it, it said it fixed something. If I try doing it again, it doesn’t do anything anymore. * chkdsk /f /r - helped it seems? Did it once and it was running well for an hour. Blue screen came back. * Tried MemTest86. Results came through and it passed. So memory isn’t the issue. * Took out the M.2 in question. Kept the “video game” m.2 drive in. Wiped it and tried installing Windows. Got several errors and while installing it crashed. With that, I am assuming it’s not the SSD either * Wiped secondary M.2 to install windows. Removed first M.2. Still kept crashing or BSOD *Removed all drives associated with the computer and ordered a 256gb ssd. Tried to install windows on it and it crashed or BSOD.
System Information: CPU - Intel Core i9-14900K Motherboard - ROG Strix Z690-E Gaming Wifi Memory Sticks - Corsair DDR5 6600MT/s 2x32GB 1.40v GPU - Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Drives *C Drive (Windows) - Samsung SSD M.2 970 EVO Plus 2Tb *D Drive (Game storage) - Samsung SSD M.2 970 EVO Plus 2Tb *E Drive - Western Digital Blue 8Tb *F Drive - Western Digital Black 6tb
Present Day:
I have reached out for help on this Reddit before. I was told to get an RMA on my motherboard since the issues appeared to be coming from it. Well, unfortunately I am still encountering issues. Apparently my old motherboard had a “HDD to Sata” issue so they replaced the entire motherboard.
I ordered new Ram sticks. Tried those, and I am still encountering issues. *New Ram Sticks - DDR5 T-Force Delta 2x16GB 6400Mhz
I thought replacing the motherboard and the Ram sticks would solve my issue but that is not the case.
I tried reinstalling windows to see if that could solve it, but once again, it’s having the same issues again. Sometimes it BSOD before I even get to the installation.
Thank you for reading this far. If you have any ideas on what I can do next, I would greatly appreciate it. I am currently lost and have no idea how this problem came about. Could this be a CPU or Power supply issue? Could the replaced Motherboard still be faulty?

2024.05.14 08:17 TurbulentPiglet [FNV] Impossible to play TTW: AMD drivers issue.

So, i got a new pc, tried to run TTW (and New Vegass vanilla), main menu works fine, new game works fine, i can see the initial cutscene, the moment press esc or the cutscene ends i get CTD.
I've seen a few posts online about the new AMD drivers being the culprit, but i don't relly want to roll them back because i think they fix a pair of problems in other games; Is there any other way to play without having to roll back the drivers or it's the only way ?

2024.05.14 08:11 dancingqueen200 29 no license, ready to change

I’m 29, almost 30 in September. I went through drivers Ed at 15, completed the program, tried to take the driving test a few years later, freaked out, and failed. Over the years I’ve taken a couple of driving lessons here and there, and have to retake my written test and get new permits every few years. The last time I took lessons they went horribly, I started having a panic attack and the instructor had to drive us back. All of these years, I have relied on others for rides, walked, or taken Ubers or the bus if I’m downtown. Even my closest friends don’t know that I don’t have a license as I have so much shame about it. I lie to people and tell them I don’t have a car, I’m car pooling, I don’t like driving, I’m afraid of driving. Those are all true but they aren’t the whole truth.
I feel like I’m at a crossroads. I’m just about to graduate from a masters program and I applied to a job that it looks like I might get. It’s about an hour and a half away, which will require me to move. I could get an apartment in that town and take the bus to work but I really want to not have to worry about that. I want to be able to meet up with friends on the weekend or come home to visit my family or drive myself 20 minutes to Trader Joe’s. I also have this sense that I’m about to be asked out by someone very special and I don’t want this to be a barrier in us getting to know each other.
I have avoided any lessons since before 2020 but I just made an appointment! I’m done with doing this.

2024.05.14 08:06 No_Positive7161 Game has to run for few minutes before FPS stabilizes plus stuttering

To start off I mainly play overwatch so this is mainly where I have been having the issue. I'm running ryzen 5 5600x, rx 6600, 16gb ddr4 ram, 500w power supply, b450m mobo. I was originally running the ryzen 5 2600 with rx 580 but upgraded for better performance. I would originally have to run the game for like 5 mins before the fps settled where I wanted it(around 120fps). During those 5 minutes there was also a lot of stuttering as well but that also settled down. I decided to upgrade to the specs I listed and I was still having the same issue. I would have to run the game for like 5 minutes before the fps settled where I wanted it(this time around 180fps). Now the biggest issue is the stuttering, it's very persistent. The game will run perfectly at a stable 180fps for several minutes, randomly freeze for several seconds, and then go back to running perfectly smooth for several minutes again. I've pretty much tried every troubleshooting tip I could Google or find in an older reddit thread and nothing has worked. I have all the graphics settings set to medium(except the texture filtering quality, I have that set to max I haven't tried messing with that yet but I doubt it's the issue, correct me if I'm wrong), I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, I tried DDU, I've updated bios, I messed with the cmos, I tried overclocking, I disabled the overclock, uninstalled the amd adrenaline software and did a driver install only. Also my CPU and GPU temperatures never went above 55C. Is there anything else I haven't tried?

2024.05.14 07:23 Quick_Repeat_4346 Are PSN Games spoiling you?

As someone who has been playing PS games since 2003, I used to be someone who would buy a game once every 1-2 months, and keep playing it until I finished it all the way (at least Gold-ed, if not Platinum’d).
But with PSN giving me such a long list of games I have been waiting to play for so long, my drive seems to weakening. Where a game starts to get too difficult, or kinda boring, I just go on & delete it, and start downloading something else. I was playing Raji the other day, got till the final boss, gave it a go & failed about 20-25 times, and then just gave up. Downloaded Returnal afterwards, got to the 2nd biome & then it got too manic, so I stopped & now am playing Ghost of Tsushima.
Of course it might just mean that I m not focussed enough, but can it be also that these subscriptions are spoiling us with choices?
What do you think?

2024.05.14 07:19 Catfishnt Computer shuts down when playing Content Warning, Valorant, ETC

Hello!
My computer keeps shutting down when playing Content Warning, like 3 minutes into the game. This happens once in a while when playing Valorant too, though not as bad.
I tried reinstalling drivers, but ended up almost completely fucking up my computer because it didn't reregister the GPU or something (idk I'm not the best with tech terms) and games started playing at 1FPS. It seems like it's using both GPUs now because now Overcooked plays at like a somewhat normal FPS.
I have already cleaned out my fans before in the past. Not sure what the issue is and I went into bios but wasn't sure what to do there.
Was wondering if anyone had suggestions, I searched and saw some other people had the same issue and it got solved by keeping the lid open but I don't use an external monitor so that can't be the issue.
Thanks.

2024.05.14 07:11 TheBankersFart Idk what to do

So, I thought the pc I recently built would be more than enough to handle what I was looking to do, but after some gaming I’m not sure. I’m just looking for advice on what I could be missing and my options going forward as this was my first build.
My main goal for the pc was to be able to play StarCraft 2 at max settings as smooth as possible. A game that is 20+ years old.. Other than that some light Microsoft Word/Excel, and your general internet surfing, bill paying, YouTube activities.
My gaming experience has been sub optimal for the most part but I’ve experienced SOME really good sessions as well. More laggy lower FPS games than smooth higher FPS games. How do I make it a better gaming experience?
Motherboard: ASRock B650I LIGHTNING WIFI AM5 Ryzen 7000 AMD B650 SATA 6Gb/s Mini-ITX s DDR5
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB GDDR6
Memory: DDR5 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) 6000MHz (PC5-48000) CL30 Intel XMP 3.0 & AMD
Storage: Samsung 990 PRO Series - 1TB PCIe Gen4. X4 NVMe 2.0c - M.2 Internal SSD
Power Supply: Corsair SF Series, SF750, 750 Watt, SFX, 80+ Platinum Certified, Fully Modular Power Supply
My CPU temps range from 70 -75c My GPU temps range from 48 -50c My internet connection ranges from 930 - 950 MBPS.
I have dowloaded all the drivers, updated the software, turned off background apps, connected FreesSync and made sure the bios for the motherboard reflected the components correctly.
What can/should I do next?

2024.05.14 07:04 Nightmari0ne Video settings don't save

Simple as the title says, the game doesn't save my videos settings.
I've tried:
-Reinstalling GPU drivers
-Reinstalling the game
-Exclude the OW folder from firewall
-Cannot change the "read only" property so I'm guessing there lies the issue. I've tried multiple ways to get access to apply the change (permissions, CDM, etc) and nothings seems to work.
If anyone has ever had this issue and managed to solve it, I'd appreciate any info regarding.
Thank you

2024.05.14 06:59 Zalternative_ 8Bitdo Ultimate C (Switch ver) not working

Still sort of a beginner to Linux and am currently using Linux Mint 21.3 Mate ver with the 6.5.0-35-generic kernel.
I thought this controller would just function as a normal Switch controller and it works fine on Windows with Steam (which I'm not that concerned with at the moment) but I've done stuff like getting HID-Nintendo, Joycond, Joycond-cemuhook and none of them work. Steam doesn't detect any controller nor do my emulators like Duckstation, MelonDS and Dolphin detect it. It can actually connect itself via Bluetooth and USB and is shown as "Pro Controller" but the problem is that it just doesn't give any input at all. It acts like it's connected and everything but just nothing.
Does anyone know if 8Bitdo's Switch Controllers or controllers in Switch mode have some issues when connecting to Linux? Is this because 8Bitdo uses their own drivers or something?
Thanks for any clarification. I was very disappointed because I really admire the look and feel of the controller and just wanted to play some Sonic games on it or something.

2024.05.14 06:47 zayderp Troubleshooting one problem is uncovering a plethora of others

This issue has been slowly happening over time, but over the last few weeks become an awful problem to the point where my boyfriend and i are spending more time trying to repair the pc and keep it unfrozen than we are using it.
It would happen once or twice where his pc would freeze mid match in game. then of course problem increased, would freeze on start up, hard shut down, start up, freeze, shut down, rinse and repeat about 20 times.
he was fine dealing with this problem until we could get suspected problem part (gpu/cpu) replaced.
well today we run into no audio driver problem, and im running into other issues now stuck in a windows automatic repair loop. No access to do sfc /scannow, DISM tools refusing to work, and no restore/source point, cannot check for windows updates, or run the trouble shooter (says it’s already installed but doesn’t run and says it needs installed) as well as going into settings RealTek is an unfound app along with Riot(?) which is what he says runs his pc (im doing the diagnostics, plugging things into google and communicating while he’s at work) i feel stuck in a never ending loop of trying to troubleshoot and every troubleshoot not working or unveiling yet another issue. if anybody has any ideas as to either what is wrong/needs replaced or if i should just toss the whole thing and buy a new one (preferably not as we make 5k/mo combined and dishing on a whole new pc is not in our favor)
i really just want to help bc it’s one of few stress reliefs for him and it’s giving him more stress than relief
ETA Specs: Prebuilt Cyberpower MSI Geforce 3070TI i7-11700KF(i do believe i know cpu is 11th gen) with 32gb 2x16 ram i bought this back in 2022 February.
