Why does hydrogen peroxide react by making a very hot white foam, with my microfiber bathrobes even after having washed them at 90 degrees celsius, with sanitizing detergents? I'm not a chemistry expert but searching online I couldn't find any information, especially why the reaction generates so much heat. Mine is simple curiosity, thanks to anyone who wants to answer me.

Bleeding Gum around Molar
Hi, a gum around one of my molars is bleeding. I try to stay on the top of my dental hygiene -- brush twice with an electric toothbrush, floss once, use a water pik. Some days ago I felt that my gums around my wisdom teeth were swollen, this happens sometimes and I started rinsing with Hydrogen Peroxide 1.5 percent twice a day. Now it seems that the swelling has gone away but this gum has started bleeding. No pain per se, my saliva is blood-tinged when I brush or water pik. Interestingly, no blood while flossing (the bleeding seems to come from the upper lining of the gum, not between the teeth). Could it be gum trauma? Should I keep brushing even if it bleeds?
I'm not sure I can afford a dentist rn, all help is appreciated. Thank you so much.

2024.05.14 08:09 BonnieBug can I save my moldy water bottle?

can I save my moldy water bottle?
I’d gotten a bad cold many many months ago (possibly near to a year ago at this point? idk) and mixed up some tang in my water bottle to help soothe my very sore throat. after I got better I ended up really busy, and forgot to clean out the bottle, and by the time I remembered to it’d started to mold. executive dysfunction took over to make the task insurmountable and now it’s pretty gross :( there’d still been some tang in it and looks like the water separated out and the tang powder clumped together as mold. there’s no visible mold climbing the sides or anything, it seems all contained in the water, but I’m still concerned I cant sanitize it :(
I’d just buy a new bottle but I’d really liked it, and they dont make it anymore :( I even looked on sites like ebay and mercari, but they dont come in the same size or color
would soaking the bottle in a peroxide or vinegar solution work (after dumping out the contents obvi)?? would bleach be better??? should I just give up and mourn the loss of my bottle ;-;
edit: sorry it completely slipped my mind i should add pictures!! i tried my best, my phone struggled to focus through the bottle. on looking closer in trying to take the pictures there might be some white mold on the inside but the majority of it is definitely in the water still. the brand is contigo, in their old autospout design!

2024.05.14 07:50 pearldental12 Teeth Whitening: How It Works, Types, and Side Effects:

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental procedure aimed at enhancing the appearance of teeth by removing stains and discoloration. Here's an overview of how it works, the different types available, and potential side effects:

How Teeth Whitening Works

Teeth whitening primarily involves the use of bleaching agents, usually hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. These agents penetrate the enamel to reach the discolored molecules within the tooth. The bleaching agents break the bonds of the discolored molecules, resulting in a whiter appearance of the teeth.

Types of Teeth Whitening

  1. In-Office Whitening:
    • Procedure: Performed by a dentist, this method involves applying a high-concentration bleaching agent directly to the teeth. Often, a special light or laser is used to accelerate the whitening process.
    • Duration: Typically completed in one visit, lasting 30-90 minutes.
    • Effectiveness: Provides immediate and dramatic results, with teeth often becoming several shades lighter.
  2. At-Home Whitening (Prescribed by Dentist):
    • Procedure: Dentists provide custom-fitted trays and a lower-concentration bleaching gel for use at home. Patients typically wear the trays for a few hours a day or overnight for several weeks.
    • Duration: Results usually appear within a few days to a couple of weeks.
    • Effectiveness: Can achieve similar results to in-office treatments over a longer period.
  3. Over-the-Counter Whitening Products:
    • Whitening Strips: Thin, flexible strips coated with a bleaching gel. Applied directly to the teeth and worn for a specified time.
    • Whitening Toothpastes and Mouthwashes: Contain mild abrasives or low concentrations of bleaching agents to help remove surface stains.
    • Whitening Pens and Gels: Applied directly to the teeth with a brush applicator.
  4. Natural Remedies:
    • Baking Soda: A mild abrasive that can help remove surface stains.
    • Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse: A diluted solution can be used as a mouthwash.
    • Fruit Peels: Some people use banana or orange peels to rub on their teeth, though scientific evidence supporting effectiveness is limited.

Side Effects of Teeth Whitening

  1. Tooth Sensitivity:
    • Cause: Whitening agents can penetrate the enamel and reach the dentin, causing temporary sensitivity.
    • Management: Use of desensitizing toothpaste or reducing the frequency of whitening treatments.
  2. Gum Irritation:
    • Cause: Contact with bleaching agents can irritate the gums.
    • Management: Ensuring proper application to avoid contact with the gums, and using protective barriers during in-office treatments.
  3. Enamel Damage:
    • Risk: Overuse or improper application of whitening products can weaken the enamel.
    • Prevention: Follow the recommended usage guidelines and consult with a dentist before starting any whitening regimen.
  4. Uneven Whitening:
    • Cause: Existing dental work (fillings, crowns, veneers) does not respond to bleaching agents, leading to color mismatch.
    • Solution: Discuss options with a dentist to ensure a uniform appearance.

Considerations and Tips

Teeth whitening can significantly enhance your smile’s appearance, but it’s important to choose the right method and be aware of potential side effects. Always seek professional advice to ensure safe and effective whitening.

2024.05.14 07:23 thatquietuserr My entire closet is moldy and my family won’t help me. Please give me advice

Long story short. I moved into my mom’s childhood bedroom in my grandmas house. My mom has told me that’s there’s mold in the closet, I bought a black light to confirm it, and there is. Mold is all over the bottom of the closet. (It’s brown and hard to see unless you’re looking for it)
How do I clean this? It’s on hardwood floor and painted walls. Is hydrogen peroxide good? I don’t want to use bleach just in case I mess the floor up.
My mom also refuses to remove her wedding dress, that’s covered in mold, out from the closet. She removed everything else but the dress. I need it gone, but I don’t want it to contaminate other parts of the house if I move it to a different closet… I told my mom it’s covered in mold and she just didn’t care. I don’t know how to take care of this by myself. I don’t want it to ruin my clothes or the rest of my room.

2024.05.14 06:44 Nony_Mouse Advice for my Thai Constellation, please (root rot).

Advice for my Thai Constellation, please (root rot).
A week ago I discovered that my beautiful big Thai constellation, Astrid, had root rot. Only clue was leaves becoming floppy after watering. I'm fairly confident she wasn't over-watered, she did however get a total repot a few weeks earlier, and things may have started to go wrong then.
Anyway, she lost a substantial amount of root mass between what was already gone and what I had to cut off. I had her in water with hydrogen peroxide for several days to make sure rot wasn't progressing, and she's been back in chunky aroid mix since Saturday (now Tuesday in New Zealand). Watered in with GT Rootzone, and spraying leaves with GT Foliar every few days. She's on a heat mat, and has a humidifier running alongside (air super dry due to impending winter and need for indoor heating via woodburner). She also has grow lights on her, and gets a few hours of good sun (filtered) if that decides to grace us. Today, I've clustered my two taller green deliciosas nearby to try to create a bit of a humidity dome.
Her leaves were holding up well while she was in water, but the two oldest are now yellowing and curling. I did expect that she'd likely lose some leaves, though also kind of hoped we'd somehow get away with it.
Is there anything I should be doing that I'm not? Or should be doing different? She did lose a bit more root from what is shown in that photo, but I didn't take another before repotting.

2024.05.14 05:20 whatevermichelle Help save my counter top!

Help save my counter top!
My counters are essentially butcher block with a clear varnish. They were in the house when we bought it- not my choice!
The space in front of my sink has always been a drop zone, so in effort to organize the mess, I put bins there (3- one for each kid and an “other”) when I picked up the bins to clean under them recently. Each bin was partially outlined with a grime-y brown mark. It’s raised from the counter but not coming off. I can’t scrape too hard because it’ll take off the varnish.
Any thoughts on what it is? I’ve tried soaking with hot water and lightly scraping with my nails, scrub daddy and dish soap, hydrogen peroxide and a toothpick….

2024.05.14 04:42 JohnnyFiveOhAlive I am an idiot and tried to clean a year old stainless steel sink with hydrogen peroxide, which has now dozens of tiny rust spots. I tried cleaning it with Barkeepers Friend and it got rid of the spots initially but they are visible again a day later, is my sink ruined?

I fully admit that I am an idiot and should not have done this. I did not realize at the time that hydrogen peroxide would rust a steel sink. It created dozens of small rust spots all over the sides, the bottom of the sink seems mostly okay. I did not realize how bad it was at first but noticed about two months later, I probably just did not notice at first. So two months later I used Barkeepers Friend to try to clean it off, that was two days ago. It seemed to get rid of the rust but now, two days later I see rust spots again.
Is there anything I can do to clean this or is my sink ruined? Do I need to replace it, am I putting myself and my family at risk if we wash dishes in it? We don't soak dishes in our sink, we just hold them up and wash them, things we wash generally don't touch the sides or the bottom of the sink, but we might get water splashing off the dust onto our dishes? If the sink is ruined is there some material I can use to coat it and give it a new surface, instead of ripping a sink out of the wall and replacing it?
Thank you again for your help, as stated before, I am an idiot and shouldn't have used hydrogen peroxide on it.

I need a bit of advice on my nose piercing please.
I got my nose pierced almost 3 months ago and it keeps bumping up.
I used the wrong cleansing solution when I first got it due to misinformation. I was using an eye wash to clean it, my mom said it would work the same as a regular saline solution but it didn’t, it was just a mistake and her end and I don’t blame her because it’s been over two decades, almost three, since she got hers.
I just started using hydrogen peroxide to disinfect it and pink himalayan salt in purified water to clean it. Are there any other things that I can do or try to help heal it?

2024.05.14 02:02 Dark-Aki_89 It’s all spreading like a wild mint plant now... so I’ll just say this…

I’ll just drop more things I’ve noticed about the house during the first 3 days of me living there.
1.) the tour was different from the actual move in
2.) I was told we were going to have assigned cleaning dates to clean the house.
3.) the kitchen that I was shown was actually more dirty and I am not allowed to clean anything in the kitchen or be in it.
4.) the entire living room and everything on the first floor is the landlords.
5.) texts about last minute rules came in after I got in trouble for cleaning the orange build up on the fridge with hydrogen peroxide which fixed that problem.
6.) I offered to pay her back for the cleaning product use and I still got into trouble.
7.) she insults my mother as a joke which is a serious offense.
8.) she keeps the back door open barely with the lock on but would get angry with me for opening the front door to sometimes air the house out of the smell that’s left behind that goes into my rented room.
9.) she’s the only one with the mail key so if I need to find any mail I can’t access it because she didn’t get a copy for anyone else their.
10.) my mail that came in (car parts) had rips and was tossed onto the inside stairs.
11.) things change up in the house
12.) landlord will have late night dates under my room in the main after curfew as if we don’t have other neighbors.
13.) the overnight guests have to pay 70+ a night according to the landlord’s new idea she told me
14.) she has a small dog that she keeps in the garage that I always see with an empty bowl.
15.) The night before my motorbike got stolen, her dog got out and was running around. (Not too relevant but something I saw as she didn’t even notice…)
16.) Her dog doesn’t go outside that much and she’s barely home most of the time.
17.) There is/was sugar all over the countertop behind the WiFi router.
18.) My other roommate even admits to her not being clean.
19.) My bedroom doorknob is on backwards and the door is not the right size.
20.) I live with other 420 smokers… so it’s iffy already. Even though I’m one.
21.) the washing machine is broken and the dryer is unplugged. Even though everyone else around us has both working ones in their garages.
22.) She leaves her food out and it gets a day old or two.
23.) Didn’t send me a text going mia, until later then she had gotten a new number after I had tried to contact her, previously many times about getting my mail out of the mailbox.
My only issue is how people want to act like we stoners think alike. We don’t. Some see things others don’t and this is one of them. While she’s smoking and spending, seeing her bfs, she could be saving for a washing machine as well. And not only that walk your dog..? I’m sick of seeing a dog that isn’t mine going to me for responsibilities that i don’t pay for. Remember, she said I pay for the room. Not to take care of her dog but it hurts me because I feel like I’m gonna be in trouble for just giving the dog water in his empty bowls. Dudes dehydrated and you can see it when he goes out for his droppings. Let alone his slight limp on the hind left leg. I don’t mind paying an extra few hundred bucks for it… really but now I’m going to look elsewhere to live whether things go good or not. The way things are here are so unstable. This isn’t the only things there’s more and I can keep updating everyone.

2024.05.14 01:51 Simonbargiora Conversation with Bing

Anyone with a medical background How accurate is this?

Is there any chemicals in the dead cities that can be used for medicinal purposes in the above scenario? (dead cities, survivors left them when food ran out to the smaller areas, gasoline ran out and electricity was taken out removing power for the stuff in the cities, the function of cities remained however machines were full of every kind of valuable chemical, metal, even sewage to use as fertilizer, and machines, buildings could be demolished for concrete and all the machines every part could be repurposed for a different purpose cars put to their individual machanical components every part of a house taken apart surgically, the dead cities provided resource extraction to last indefinitely and cities ripped by thousands of workers, with 4 million survivors out of a 50 million pre war population supply exceeded demand)Copilot
In the scenario you’ve described, where survivors have left the cities to find resources elsewhere, the abandoned urban areas could indeed become treasure troves of materials for various uses, including medicinal purposes. Here’s how chemicals and other materials from the dead cities might be repurposed:
  1. Medicinal Plant Compounds:
  2. Pharmaceuticals:
    • Any remaining pharmaceuticals could be salvaged and repurposed. However, their efficacy and safety would need to be carefully considered due to potential degradation over time.
  3. Industrial Chemicals:
    • Certain industrial chemicals found in machinery or laboratories could have medicinal properties. For example, ethanol from industrial or research facilities could be used as a disinfectant.
  4. Metals for Medical Tools:
    • Metals from machinery and buildings could be melted down and reshaped into medical tools such as scalpels, tweezers, and other surgical instruments.
  5. Sewage as Fertilizer:
    • Treated sewage could be used as fertilizer to grow medicinal plants, creating a sustainable cycle of resource use.
  6. Repurposing Vehicle Components:
    • Parts from vehicles could be used to build medical equipment. For example, car batteries might power makeshift medical devices, and lenses from vehicle lights could be used in medical diagnostics.
  7. Building Materials for Clinics:
    • Concrete and other building materials could be used to construct clinics and hospitals where medical care can be provided.
  8. Chemical Reagents:
    • Chemical reagents from abandoned laboratories could be used for medical testing and research to develop new treatments.
In this scenario, the key to utilizing these resources would be a deep understanding of chemistry, medicine, and engineering. The survivors would need to be innovative and cautious, ensuring that any repurposed materials are safe and effective for medical use. The transformation of these materials into medicinal resources would be a testament to human resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity. 🌱🔬
1link.springer.com2listverse.com3link.springer.comYouwhat are some industrial chemicals found in machinery or laboratories could have medicinal properties and where can they be found?Copilot
In the context of machinery and laboratories, several industrial chemicals that could have medicinal properties include:
  1. Ethanol: Commonly used as a solvent and cleaning agent, ethanol also serves as a disinfectant and antiseptic in medical settings1.
  2. Glycerol: Found in machinery as a lubricant, glycerol is used in pharmaceutical formulations to improve smoothness and provide lubrication1.
  3. Hydrogen Peroxide: Used for bleaching or cleaning in industrial settings, it’s also an effective antiseptic for treating wounds1.
  4. Acetic Acid: While used in the production of synthetic fibers and plastics, it has applications as an antifungal agent1.
  5. Isopropyl Alcohol: A solvent in manufacturing processes, it’s also used for disinfecting skin before injections1.
These chemicals can be found in various industrial and laboratory settings, including chemical manufacturing plants, research facilities, and places where machinery maintenance occurs. In a post-apocalyptic scenario like the one described in “Threads,” survivors might find these chemicals in:
It’s important to note that while these chemicals have medicinal properties, they must be used with caution. Proper knowledge of their handling and application is crucial, especially in a scenario where professional medical advice and facilities are scarce. 🏭🔬
can post attack chemistry extract these chemicals from any objects?Copilot
In a post-attack scenario, extracting useful chemicals from various objects would be a crucial survival skill. Here’s how survivors might go about it:
  1. Ethanol Extraction:
    • Ethanol could be extracted from alcoholic beverages or fermented materials. Distillation setups using basic equipment like pots, tubes, and heat sources could be improvised to purify ethanol.
  2. Glycerol Recovery:
    • Glycerol is a byproduct of biodiesel production, which can be made from used cooking oils. It can also be recovered from soap-making processes.
  3. Hydrogen Peroxide Production:
    • Hydrogen peroxide can be synthesized through various chemical reactions, including the electrolysis of water or by reacting barium peroxide with sulfuric acid, if available.
  4. Acetic Acid (Vinegar):
    • Acetic acid can be obtained from the fermentation of fruit juices or other sugary solutions. The process would require oxygen and time for vinegar bacteria to convert ethanol into vinegar.
  5. Isopropyl Alcohol:
    • Isopropyl alcohol can be found in cleaning products or medical supplies. It could also be synthesized through the hydration of propene, which might be sourced from fuel or chemical storage facilities.
Survivors would need to have knowledge of chemistry and access to some basic laboratory equipment or be able to improvise with available materials. Safety would be a paramount concern, as chemical extraction processes can be dangerous without proper precautions and equipment123.
In such a scenario, the ability to adapt and innovate with available resources would be essential for survival and recovery. 🧪🔬

2024.05.14 01:26 StreetBob7753 Having an issue with earwigs (pincher bugs)

So apparently there's been an explosion of the little bastards in the Southern California area where I live and they're eating my seedlings alive. I've lost more than 20 seedlings and my Tabasco (in an Aerogarden) plant has been getting eaten like it's the cool thing to do. I've also got fungus gnats infesting my starter soil. I've tried getting rid of the gnats with hydrogen peroxide, which works on the immature stages of life. I have sticky traps up in my grow area, but the earwigs are really pissing me off. Are there any effective natural pesticides that will kill these bastards? Or am I going to have to start using chemicals?

Got this baby last week
Hi there. I recently got this Thai constellation about a week ago. On the first day, we noticed some mushy roots and removed them and then cleansed it in hydrogen peroxide for an hour. Then we let it dry and put it in a vase with water to propagate. I noticed some more root rot being formed and I’m not sure if we just let it run its course or intervene. I’ve been using superthrive for a couple days as well. All tips welcome I am new to this!

Clearing Sinuses
Just wanted to leave this tip for anyone who, like me, is on a budget and the mold colonized in their sinuses—I tried a buuunch of different sprays and even mixed my own nasal washes at one point but the most effective thing hands down has been nebulizing with a mixture of normal saline and food grade hydrogen peroxide. It is pure pure magic. I’m sure this could also be fantastic if you have chronic allergies and such. This video explains exactly how to do it and it’s so affordable. Before starting, my right sinus was completely blocked and now I can breathe easily through both nostrils.
Side note: I’ve also been using the hydrogen peroxide to wash vegetables, sterilize mold-prone things like the spigot on my water filter, and I’ve been giving some diluted hp to my plants and it’s also making my plants healthier

2024.05.13 22:47 Effective-Quarter916 What is wrong with my tomato plants

What is wrong with my tomato plants
They were repotted almost a week ago and within a couple days I noticed white spots at the base of some of the stems and some of the leaves curled all the way back. I figured it was too much water. Some of the stems seem to be shrinking at the base but other than that they seem to be okay, with new leaves growing. Just wondering if this is damping and if they might survive. I sprayed them today at the base with diluted hydrogen peroxide. I usually let the soil dry out before watering. I watered them well after repotting but then had to bring them inside because it stormed for a few days strait. The pictures are of the worst ones.
