Okay so my boyfriend isnt into whisky so much as other random alcohols and mixed stuff. But I had them taste stuff and explained how to properly taste and smell whisky. it’s pretty much exactly what is sounds like lol.
ive been trying to figure out how to make a diy sugar scrub cuz i rlly liked using my bfs, and all the recipes call for coconut oil, which i dont have (ik i could get it but still). they also say that a sugar scrub is basically just sugar+fragrance+carrying oil.
i have a lot of extra conditioner just cuz i dont use a ton, and i already know its skin safe cuz its for my haiscalp. it also has fragrance already.
is there any reason i cant just mix sugar and conditioner to make a simple sugar scrub?
(btw the conditioner i have is some extra function of beauty stuff, its pretty thick in consistency)

This is terrible: why is the OL iced coconut so very good with Monin chocolate syrup?? Now I have to stock up on it for the winter and I promised myself after PH Hazelnut that I was going to make better choices around coffee purchases 😂
But seriously, with just one squirt of chocolate, the coconut over ice tastes like a Bounty bar to me!
Anybody else have good iced recipes for the coconut? (I know mine isn’t really a recipe, just a syrup suggestion lol).

I made lime fudge from this recipe . The first time I made this recipe it set but was a touch grainy. The second time I made the lime fudge, it was a disaster. It did not set. It was squishy once taken out of the fridge. Even when we put it back in the fridge, it was soft. So I decided to reheat it and try again. This time I used a candy thermometer and got the mixture up to 234-ish F. I didn’t stir as much because I thought that’s what was causing the graininess. But it burned a little bit on the bottom of the pan. I put the mixture in my foiled and greased pan. But it seemed too liquid. And it definitely did not set. When I took the fudge out of the pan after more than a day of chilling, it oozed everywhere like too soft caramel. What did I do wrong? Any suggestions? Also, I used white baking chips instead of white chocolate chips. Not sure what I used the first time, but I would think it would be white baking chips.

There is a milk street recipe for caramel-braised chicken with ginger and lime that I've been making for years around 1x month. I've made some of my own modifications for flavor purposes and the end result each and every time is superb. BUT. the very first step with this dish is to make a caramel sauce.
I'm definitely on the more advanced side of a home cook and have a strong grasp/ understanding of food chemistry and culinary techniques, but beyond this dish I don't ever go near the heated sugacaramel/candy area.
I've used most often an enameled cast iron pan (le creuset) or just a standard lighter weight metal pan. I've had success and failures in both.
The caramel is made of coconut water and white sugar. (I use either goya or iberia coconut water and strain out the pulp)

• You combine 1 TBS coconut water + 1/4 cup of white sugar over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until mixture turns gold at the edges
  • they say this takes ~3 minutes... I find it takes a bit longer
• Reduce to medium, continue to cook, swirling the pan without stirring until the caramel is mahogany in color and smokes lightly another 4-5 minutes
  • at some point in this second stage of cooking is the turning point to crystals, or the desired outcome

Even though I'm usually able to rescue it (sometimes I'm not and they crystallization is too extreme and I just start over again) around 60% of the time I make this, the caramel starts to crystalize. It seems random and I really don't know why sometimes I end up with the desired liquid mahogany, and other times its a mixture of undercooked crystal that I rescue with the subsequent steps of adding more liquid.
I don't know if it is something related to heat, timing, ingredient properties, the pan I'm using... If anyone has any tips or insight into what I might be doing wrong or how I can more consistently end up with a liquid rather than a crystalized product it would be very much appreciated!!!!

I'm looking for a super moist and tasty chocolate cake that I can bake for my kids. I normally bake loaf style cakes as I love using the Pullman loaf pan (I really enjoy the way it looks on the cake stand).
Seeking a recipe that is excellent on its own without frosting or ganauch, however chocolate chips ok. It wouldn't be a celebratory cake but one I can bake on a Friday to offer for a couple of days. Would greatly appreciate any recommendations.
p.s if you don't have a chocolate cake recipe to offer but are thinking of a great recipe that lends itself to the Pullman loaf pan I would love to know, so feel free!

Hi all! My partner and I both work from home, and I love to bake but we can’t eat a whole cake by ourselves. I love the idea of making a mini round by halving cake recipes. What is the math on this? Let’s say I wanted to make a 2 layer coconut cake which calls for using two 8” cake pans. Would I half the recipe and use 4” cake pans? For some reason I feel like that would be too small?
If I am right, and I should be buying 4” rounds, what is the most common size of pans for cakes? I feel I always see recipes asking for 9” or 8”. If I’m planning on making a lot of “half cakes” what size should I get to be able to make the most recipes?

i bought some coconut flour ages ago but never used it mainly because the calorie content is very similar to regular all purpose flour just with more fiber. I also saw someone on this sub say it doesn’t work for volume eating because it’s calorie dense (mine is 304 calories per 100 gram with 19 grams of fiber).
I want to counter that with a trick i found recently. Any recipe using all purpose flour can be subbed for coconut flour in a 4:1 proportion, meaning if a recipe asks for 120g of all purpose flour (around 396 calories), it can be substituted for 30 grams of coconut flour (91.2 calories). I’ve tried this trick on a few recipes now including one i will link in the comments and a banana bread recipe, and it really does work to give the same rise to a baked good with 1/4 of the calories!

Hello, newly learning to cook here and have been encountering this problem for my last six or so months of experimenting. After one too many times cleaning my greasy stovetop I figured I should ask what I'm doing wrong.
Whenever I'm working with a recipe that requires me to heat oil and then add something to it, the oil starts bouncing everywhere. To give an example, today I was making chili and went to add onions to hot oil (in this case olive oil but I've had the same thing happen no matter what oil I use, and I've tried olive, canola, coconut and sesame) and the oil started bubbling around the onions and spraying around and bouncing out of the pot. This happens with seemingly anything solid I add to oil but definitely worse with vegetables. It makes it difficult to stand next to it without painful hot oil drops spraying on me and I've started wearing my driving glasses while cooking just to make sure none gets in my eyes. It also makes a huuuge mess over my stovetop and counter that is greasy and very annoying to clean. I have an electric stove. What am I doing wrong? 🙁

Hey everybody, so I recently followed a recipe I found on TikTok (yeah I know..) but it was really good, but the overall opinion of the people I let it try was that it was just really sweet... also I hope this question fits in here...
so here's the recipe, as short as I can get it (it's also in metric, because I don't know imperial, sry in advance):
175g Creme Cheese 200ml Heavy or Whipping Cream (I used whipping cream) half a can of condensed milk (about 200g)
mix those together for the cream
then you dunk whatever cookies or biscuits you want into a bit of milk and lay them out in a dish
spread half of the cream ontop and repeat
for a chocolate ganache heat 50ml Heavy of Whipping Cream und melt dark chocolate in it spread on top and refrigerate
ok so I know that most of the sugar content comes from the condensed milk, I tried finding some condensed milk with less sugar in it, but to no avail, so now I want to know, does anybody know how to make this recipe taste just a bit less sweet? can I add something to balance the taste? I bought coconut condensed milk, thinking it would be less sweet, but when I looked at the can of my first attempt, it has basically the same amount of sugar, I also tried finding some heavy cream with less sugar, but they all have pretty much the same where I live (Austria) in my first 2 attempts I used Lotus cookies, which are like caramel biscuits you get served with coffee and then I used the Leibniz biscuits which are more bland but still sweet biscuits, thinking it would be less sweet, it was still pretty sweet though haha in the end it tasted really good both times, but it's still really really sweet...

This happened in the morning and I still can't stop thinking about it.
So to clarify I can't eat boiled / cooked carrots, I don't know why but the texture makes me vomit, just having them in mu mouth makes me nauseous. My mom and my sister know this, they have for years.
Today I arrived at work as usual, packed away my lunch and waited until mid-day to sit down and eat: chicken on a creamy sauce and white rice, but the rice had carrots, cooked carrots. This big chunks mixed in with it. I sat there for a good ten minutes just looking at the thing because I can't physically eat it, in the end I just ate the chicken but I was honestly so upset I had to force it down.
When I arrived home both my mom and my sister asked me if I had liked lunch as it was a new recipe but the only thing I could picture was the carrots, I told them, asked them why were there carrots on the rice and they told me they had forgotten. My mom even seemed upset I hadn't eaten the whole dish but I can't! I can't eat it! They shrugged it off and I guess I was supposed to shrug it off too, I mean it's just rice but its the middle of the night now and I can't sleep thinking on it. The whole day I have been asking myself how could they forget I can't eat carrots.
After thinking about it I'm upset for a few reasons:
1) It's not the first time this has happened, earlier this year it was the same thing with a salad. Huge chunks of carrots I just can't eat.
2) Earlier on the day my sister warned she had bought some lettuce I didn't like in case I wanted a sandwich, this was because her boyfriend preferred that one, but that she would buy the other kind later in the week. This was fine at the time but now I just keep thinking, how is it that she goes out of her way to buy a crappy sort of lettuce for a guy she has known for 5 years but remembering your brother physically can't eat carrots twice in 5 months is just too much work?
3) Neither of them were even remotely apologetic, they just shrugged me off and got offended that I didn't eat the fucking rice.
I honestly think I'm overthinking but I can't stop thinking about it, I haven't eaten anything since and I am too upset to notice if I'm hungry. I have to get up at five and I am tired of being upset, I just downed a double hoping it would silence my brain but nothing, I still can't sleep.
Update: I did apologize.
Well they beat me to it. After getting dressed I went downstairs to the kitchen to apologize but my mom met me first. She apologized for making me feel like she didn't care for me and promised she will be more careful in the future. I apologized as well and told her she had nothing to be sorry for and that I was exaggerating. My sister was similar, though I did grovel a bit more with her.
Both of them told me they still felt bad and promised to make chocolate volcanoes for dinner. Lunch today is spaghetti Bolognese with home made bread, I have instructions to put the butter in the oven before eating.
