Thoughts and tips after climbing to 10k in 2 weeks.

2024.05.14 08:52 AncientPC Thoughts and tips after climbing to 10k in 2 weeks.

Yes, I had a lot of time. I originally played this game when it launched during the pandemic and stopped at 1k trophies, and picked it up again ~3 years later. I want to share my thoughts about the last ~15 days while it's still fresh and answer any questions people might have.
I have a 43% win rate in 3600 BR games, and 300+ games with each of the following heroes: Angel, Bastion, Blizzard, Blot, Cyclops, Ghost, Levi, Lynx, Ramsay, Raven, Sparkle, Vi. I have the most fun with Angel, Raven, Ramsay, and Lynx.
I've unlocked every hero except Alice, paid for Blizzard and Vi.

Trophy Tiers

Broadly speaking, the percentage of poor players decreases as you gain higher trophies. Being completely honest, I saw a bunch of mistakes made by enemies, teammates, and myself at 9k trophies. At 10k+ trophies, most of the mistakes I see are my own.

Low Tier: <3k

I have a second account on an old phone at this tier that I use to play under powered / rarely used heroes in casual games. It's mostly bots and occasional humans with rudimentary gameplay.

Mid Tier: 3-7k

People are still misplaying all the time, but in general are improving and trying to coordinate as a team. Pickup teams are pretty easy to create and people are generally friendly. Honestly, I probably had the most fun at this tier since I enjoy playing the game casually with a variety of heroes and different team compositions (vs trying to win all the time).
There's still plenty of bots in offpeak hours.

High Tier: >7k

This is the first tier where it starts to get competitive. Relatedly, this is also the first tier I started seeing bad manners and griefing.
Early on when I was around 2k, I teamed up with some high trophy players and played in 10k games. That's when I learned first hand how much faster and aggressive the game was. On certain maps (Bank, Village, Hotel), fights will often initiate after picking up ~2 items.
As for bad manners, I'm used to it from playing plenty of other online games but enjoyed the fact that Bullet Echo largely doesn't have it. However at 7k+, now you get a lot of people bm'ing when they kill you, if two people fight over an item, etc. It most commonly manifests as sprays/stickers, but also a lot of head shaking and the occasional teamkill grenade for taking "their" item.
Pickup teams are a lot more mercenary. People join up, and if the team loses most will leave; there's little to no chat banter anymore. If someone misplays a few times, they often get kicked from the team, the team is disbanded, and/or they get defriended. This, uhh, has totally never happened to me.

10k

The "end game." Heroes' power typically ranges 1650 - 2200 (Ultimate level 70 to Immortal), with the occasional Divine player. There's relatively few bots during peak times.
The games are fast and brutal, and any small mistake is quickly exploited. My winrate has dropped significantly even when playing my better characters, but I'm learning. Pre-10k, I'd typically open 3x battle and skull chests under 30 minutes. Now, opening battle and skull chests has become significantly harder.

Bravery Road

I don't have any experience with this tier since I lack Divine heroes. Others have shared that it's mostly full of bots.

Heroes

Tier List

This is based on 9k+ trophy BR in the hands of a good player:

Bastion

Bastion is great for bot farming and low / mid tier gameplay, but is easily outplayed in 7k+ games. I had a bunch of mid tier Bastion friends that I invited to 7k+ games and they've always left after a few games due to being outplayed.
Outplaying Bastion is usually done through kiting or baiting and flanking with teammates since their range is too short and movement speed is too slow. Bastion (and Blot to an extent) is outclassed by more mobile shield heroes: Angel, Hurricane, Satoshi.
Leviathan gets a special call out since his turret is great for zoning and has extended spray that can be abused to hit behind walls.

Grenade Users (Firefly/Shenji/Sparkles/Freddie)

Pre-10k, most of these are terrible nade spammers hoping to get an easy kill. I've seen so many Firefly users use more nades than bullets in a round, adding little value chucking nades into thin air. Shenji users, please use your nades to zone the enemies and less about trying to kill them. Also stop burning the grass because you can, especially when you're up against snipers.

Vi

My win rate with Vi is significantly higher than the rest of the field, which shows how broken she is. I think she needs to be nerfed, and she's my most played and highest leveled character (Stellar).
I also have some bad experiences after teaming up with a bunch of Vi-only tryhards (about 6-8 different teammates for 5+ games each). They're generally incredibly aggressive and good at racking up a high kill count, but often lack map awareness or team dynamics besides spamming, "Let's go!".

Tips

League

Climb as fast as you can, as high as you can since you get more loot per chest depending on your league level, and streaking gets harder the higher you climb in trophies. Bot farming (read below) is the easiest way to streak games and hit the next league level.
I think there is an argument to be made about staying in purple 1. I found it significantly easier to win most of the contracts at purple 1, but I was grouped with all the other grinders once I hit purple 2. This may or may not be a red herring.

Spending Money

Contracts

Star Pass

Technology

It's $10/mo. You get a random hero motivated and 8 drone plugins (2 of each color) per week, and 10 tech tokens/day. 70 tech tokens/week is enough to get drone blueprints, 2xpersonal gears boxes, some squad gear, 500 nuts, and 5 costume tokens. Also your name is highlighted in gold.
I think it's great for the first month or two for the personal gear and drone parts, but not sure if it's worth keeping afterwards.

Bots

Recognizing bots means you can adapt your strategy when playing with and against them.

Identification

Pre-game

You start recognizing the bot names after a few hundred games.

In game

Farming (BR, SvS, sabo, koth)

Bot farming is a great way to hit the streak for a league jump or grind for festival tokens.
I find sabo, SvS, and sometimes arcade in offpeak hours (or other region's servers) the easiest modes for bot farming.
Generally bots will collect a few items and start roaming looking for enemies. If a firefight ensues, the bots will start swarming towards noise like zombies.
The best characters to farm bots are those that can do a lot of damage without taking any themselves. Since bots will run in a straight line towards you, assault rifles and snipers excel at bot farming.

As teammates

It sucks to get bots as teammates, but if you understand their behavior you can take advantage of it to try and win the round.

Drones

Zenith gets increasingly valuable in 7k+ games as you never have time to revive and/or enemies will camp dead bodies. Zenith's ability to revive through walls can also be exploited.

In game tactics

This is already a long post, so I'll brain dump common improvements / mistakes that I come across. Feel free to ask questions in the comments.

tldr

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Bullet Echo, bots and all.

2024.05.13 21:49 BAZAPS Is there a way to get "layers" of 2D z-indexes?

I'm making a top-down 2D tower defense game heavily inspired by Bloons, and while my towers and enemies function well enough, My explosions and projectiles are often being drawn underneath the enemies, which end up covering most of the effects and sprites.

The main source of the problem is how I handle the z-indexes of enemies. Each wave, I have every enemy's z-index increased by one, so the newer enemies draw above the older ones (new waves reset back to z-1). However, this has enemies consistently drawing above other sprites after a certain point, including towers, projectiles, explosions, etc., so it would really be helpful to me if there was a way I could have "layers" of z-indexes.

The effect I want:

After some research, I've seen a few options (GPT was no help):
Something to note: I don't know if it matters, but the map contains a Path2D as the route, and enemies are made of PathFollow2Ds with a CharacterBody2D inside. A spawner spawns them on the path.

Sorry if this question is kinda stupid or simple, I'm new to Godot and this is my first game (that's not a tutorial).
Has anyone making a tower defense (or any other) game come up against this problem before? Is the solution in the list? Or is it something else? Any advice or help would be great, especially if you've dealt with this kind of thing, but I'll listen to most anything because this has me absolutely stumped. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

tldr; i want new enemies to draw on top of old ones, but i want explosions and stuff to draw on top of all enemies

2024.05.13 20:55 Budderman18 BudderCraft [Network] {Bedrock Support} {Strong Anti-cheating measures} {No toxicity allowed} {Survival} {Creative Plots} {Skyblock} {Prison} {Parkour} {Factions} {Tower Defense} {Mini Games}

We're an in-development/beta server dedicated to 3 main points:
We try to provide a variety of content, however given how small the development team is (at the moment, only 3 builders and 1 plugin developer), updates and changes will take a long time. Basically every mode is being re-imagined (Our first of these will be Tower Defense coming out this month!). Given this nature, features, playerdata, and basically everything else isn't perfectly stable, and may change in a flash. Now is the perfect time to come playtest and not only help grow our community, but to help find issues and propose new ideas.
BudderCraft is extremely strict on preventing cheating of any kind. Due to this, no mods (except those listed towards the end) are allowed, and this will never change (except potentially for Fabric, Forge and Lunar in the far future when we can limit their functionality). No bedrock modding will ever be allowed mostly due to console users having no legal way of obtaining them. Any intentional ways to get around this will result in a permanent, unpardonable ban. However mods aren't the only way to cheat. Any other forms, weather with ways of automation (hacks, mods, resource packs, we don't allow them atm, but a whitelist feature will be added someday) or not (game exploits, alt accounts, "win-trading" - where people in competitive modes play for a specific result rather than trying to win individually, and many more), all cheating rule breaks will almost certainly result in an unpardonable ban. Any form of piracy will also be given the same treatment. Since Minecraft isn't considered abandonware (meaning its no longer sold anymore), you cannot pirate/steal it, and there is no excuse that can be made to justify it.
A central point to a fun online game is to only allow fun and friendly people to play it. Anyone being rude for no reason, whether in a competitive environment or not, will not be tolerated whatsoever, especially if it involves personal attacks against specific traits of the person (race, sexuality, gender, etc.). While there is a way to breach this unpunished, not only does everyone who can see the content have to have explicitly said they're ok with it, but mods and admins can disallow it for any reason (mostly to prevent people from harassing others behind their back). Further info about this exception can be found under Non-ruling terms in /warp Rules
Other small points:
If you're ready to check us out, join with the IP below. We always run on the latest version (as every server should), however it may take a week or two to update versions once a new one releases.
IP(Java and Bedrock): play.buddercraft.net
NO MODDED OR PIRATED CLIENTS ALLOWED!!!!!!!! IF YOU ARE CAUGHT USING ONE, YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATLY BANNED!!!!!!!!(However, we do allow some, which are listed below)(We are not open to suggestions for more)
Allowed Clients:
Badlion Client (Only specifed mods below are allowed)
Allowed Mods for Badlion (Note: any setting not listed here will be automatically disabled and blocked when you join!):

Mission Log: Day 0024

Addendum 04

Packard and his 'scouts' made their way back up to the foyer, and gave their verbal report to Lord Zee and the rest of the crowd. Reviewing the security footage let me know that the 'nobles' and their personal servants had been jockeying for positions, each one trying to claim their own 'scandalously common' picnic tables of the four, while Lord Zee had been 'inspecting' the lavatories'. Fortunately, with one lady seemingly fast asleep at one table and the other, alone among the lot in her willingness to share, simply claimed the opposite side of the same table. That left the 'boys' bickering more about which of the three remaining tables held the more 'prestigious' or 'auspicious' position; I honestly wasn't all that certain how the screaming-match would have progressed if there hadn't been enough tables to go around. The overall enthusiasm for the arguments died down as soon as Lord Zee exited the lavatories and proclaimed them 'less than perfectly dignified for those of the nobility, but safe enough' that his family could avail themselves of the two rooms. Nehdud, with Stakkeg in his wake, made a pretty obvious dash for the door Lord Zee had just passed back through. Haruinn, weighed down with all his cutlery, had no chance of beating his relative... cousin? Brother? Nephew?... to the 'room of comfort', but followed as quickly as he could. Midmolk, bless the man, lugged that tower-shield along and even into the lavatory.
It would take a few clock-cycles to collate the data made available from what the Lignignories left in the lavatories. However, I had no doubts that as soon as I had the medical-bay finished, there would be a lot of recommendations for each one of them just in terms of diet. And the collection of infections, bacterial and viral and possibly parasitical, among the lot would likely be lengthy...
Ah, well. “Disaster recovery” covered quite a wide array of needs, did it not?
My inventory-monitor let me know that at least one of the men had indulged in their curiosity about the mysterious 'extra boxes' on the walls of the lavatory-stalls. Nothing terribly impressive there, considering that the Fuin-Braetehl boys had done the same and promptly used the resulting pads as insoles for their boots. However, the 'culprit' turned out to be Kregorim. I had half-expected Lord Zee to play around with the dispensers, or even his servant, but I suppose that one doesn't become a magician without having considerable curiosity about any strange new phenomenon.
Kregorim came out of the room behind Lord Zee and the other man, carrying a small bag of faded blue cloth in his left hand and loitering around beside the other door while Lord Zee made his announcement. He also pretended to be fascinated by the water-dispenser while the two boys and their servants made a stiff-kneed, mad dash for the lavatory Lord Zee had just exited; regardless of the layout inside, the fact that Lord Zee had entered that one made it “Gentlemen's territory” by fiat.
Ah, well. If I really needed to, my nanites could move the 'feminine necessities' into the other room.
Kregorim waited until Adallinda and her personal attendant Pippa had exited... which took almost 30.57 minutes after Lord Zee and the others had completed their own 'business'... and begged a momentary indulgence from them while he entered. And it really did take only 1.503 minutes for him to come back out again.
Adallinda delivered some choice words on the subjects of the stalls themselves as well as the magician's 'audacity' of entering the Ladies' room of comfort to the slowly-growing audience of Lignignories, attendants, and other ragged-looking folk. Though directed primarily to her father, of course. While she delivered her monologue to Lord Zee, Kregorim showed the six samples of 'feminine hygiene products' he had received from the dispensers in the other room to Pippa. Her look of mild confusion switched to wide-eyed blushes as he murmured an explanation to her behind his upraised hand, but at least she wound up smiling and nodding when he straightened up. Pippa proceeded to discreetly signal to Totra and Yera, her working counterpart-servants to the other Lignignory ladies. Kregorim gave a shallow bow in their direction, letting the servants exchange the necessary information in their own way.
While the whisper-line spread the word among the ladies, Lord Zee conferred with Packard about next steps. Well, 'conferred' might be the wrong word; Lord Zee demanded to know which of the available units were best suited to his lordly self, and that he and his servants get escorted there immediately. Packard had Tianna and himself lead the way, winding up with Lord Zee, his flock of attendants, and Kregorim trailing behind.
The magician kept up with the group, running his hands along the railings and staring at the odd 'not-moss' on the stairs undersides. He also got a very good and close look at the biometric scanner, as Tianna demonstrated that the flat panel of the door would only open after someone's hand pressed on the black not-glass.
“Hmph!” Lord Zee snorted. “So any random brigand could just press their hand to the door and gain access to my noble self? Packard, we'll be discussing guard-rotations as soon as our luggage is in place!”
Tianna and Packard led the way inside, Lord Zee following and the rest of the 'servants' behind him. The tension around Lord Zee's eyes relaxed just a little as he noted the space just within. The layout amounted to adding a second bedroom and bathroom on the end of the 'main suite', extending the 'utility room' so that all the fabricators stood in a line along one wall, and expanding the kitchen for more counter-space and cabinets on the opposite side of that wall. Back home, an apartment unit like this would've been suitable for a young couple climbing their way out of the less-reputable neighborhoods and willing to have a child or two in the process, or off-campus housing for a few college students.
For Lord Zee, though...
“Hmph! Space enough for myself, I suppose, and to quarter my servants to act as guards until we get some proper deterrents installed... And not so much as a trace of a decent carpet or rug, just more of that strange... stuff... for flooring?”
“Correct, sir,” Packard answered, before gesturing at the fabricator-banks. “However, these 'magic trunks' over here will help with at least some of that...”
It felt a little bit like listening to one pre-Information Age grandfatherly-type trying to explain a modern desktop computer to another. Admittedly, Packard and Tianna did do a decent job of walking Lord Zee... and his now-named chief personal servant, Delweard... through the process of fabricating dishware, bedding, and various other basics. Lord Zee nodded in the right places, even mastered his own obvious nervousness about touching the 'mirror' on the 'magic trunk' well enough to design and trigger the 'build' for a simple chair.
“These markings...” Kregorim said, examining the screens on the 'laundry' machine. “They seem similar to the written form of Trade Tongue, but with traits more commonly used by those further north...”
“Well and good,” Lord Zee answered. “Clearly a sign from the Master Navigator that we of House Lignignory are meant to return there and rebuild our power. We shall use this... outpost... as a staging area for our journey to Baerston Stronghold...”
I tuned out yet another extended monologue on the subject, focusing more on Packard, Tianna and Kregorim as they gathered around another fabricator out of Lord Zee's direct line of sight; Delweard motioned for the rest of the ragged-looking servants to take their places as an almost-literal captive audience to hold Lord Zee's attention while the other three talked.
“Why five magic trunks...?” Kregorim asked, half to himself and half to the others.
Packard turned his head in Tianna's direction, and nodded.
Tianna frowned, holding a stance that left the magician facing her left shoulder while she kept her right hand close to the hilt of her knife. “Stockley and I didn't feel comfortable examining them too closely when we first searched the quarters, magician,” she explained. “Nothing sprang to mind except that, perhaps, whatever power built this place intended it for use by a family, perhaps to allow the Mam, the Da, and the young ones of age to use them properly to do so all at once?” Then she nodded in the direction of the hip-high surfaces on the walls at the side and rear of the room. “No sink, no lines, no washtub, but something about those tables made both of us think of laundry-rooms for some reason.”
Kregorim glanced over his shoulder, his hands drifting through movements much like folding clothes, and he nodded. “A reasonable assumption, Miss,” he answered, his tone distant. Then he turned back to the pair. “I take it that you've already determined who is to be quartered where?” he asked, tilting his head in Lord Zee's direction. “For the safety of House Lignignory, of course.”
One of Packard's eyebrows rose a millimeter, returned to place. He gestured to the side, then curved the hand downward. “Beside us is another set of chambers like this, but mirrored,” he explained. “And directly below us, duplicates of both. Further dawnward are four smaller such, two above and two below. I and mine haven't as much need for space as the Lignignories, and at least two of us'll be on patrol at any given hour, so we'll take two of them for guard-quarters and rotate in and out as needed. Figure that the clients will want us close to hand, so we've left you the one on the end, down on ground level.”
Kregorim nodded. “Fair enough,” he answered. “Need either of you be present to grant me entrance, or may I make my way there alone, now?”
At their headshakes, he stepped over to Lord Zee's side and waited for the man to take a breath. “With your permission, your lordship, I shall go inspect my own quarters before deciding where to set my luggage,” he said.
Lord Zee turned in place, flustered at the interruption. “What, what, what?” he stammered, before recovering himself a bit. “You dared to claim a space before I, your Lord, had chosen one for you?”
Packard stepped up, one hand up with palm out. “It was a security decision, your lordship,” he said, his tone even. “The two units at the end of this line are closest to what seems to be a trail leading to the opposite cliffside. Between my people and the magician's arts, we should be able to form a suitable defense against any intruders approaching from that direction.”
Mollified, Lord Zee nodded. “Very well, you may proceed then, magician.” His 'chair' build completed, he opened the build-chamber hatch and glared at the contents. “Packard, what manner of japery is this?” he demanded, and Tianna took over explaining that the 'blocks' inside constituted the compact, even portable, form of the chair he had requested. She handed the pieces, one at a time, to Delweard and the other servants, who were able to get them all snapped and twisted together into a solid-looking straight-backed chair.
Lord Zee gestured for them to move the thing into the center of the main room and settled into it, wriggling in place before returning his attention to more important matters. “Delweard, where do you suppose we should quarter the stock for the night?” the balding 'noble' asked.
Kregorim took his leave, walking back to the lobby-area and taking those stairs down to the ground floor, then proceeding past the other doors... and to my considerable surprise, ignoring the maintenance staircase... to the last panel, next to the final door.
He pressed his hand to it. I took a clock-cycle to include notes in my own files to warn Thakhibi, Sudryal, and the others that I had needed to let someone else use 'their' quarters until I could finish getting another floor's worth of accommodations finished, then granted him access. The magician nodded as the door opened, and he stepped inside.
He glanced around, noting the presence of the fabrication units in the utility room. Then his eyes roved across the walls...
“I take it that you were waiting until I was somewhat separated from the others, and in suitable privacy,” he said, addressing the air and taking a balanced stance in the center of the main room. “I do hope that you've decided to introduce yourself. I am called Krunorim Kregorim, magician, oathbound servant to Lord Zortemos Egenor Lignignory the Fourth, and I would very much like to speak with the one whose mind I touched not to long ago..."

2024.05.13 07:51 Tenshi_Sora Parvos Granum Raid Idea

I was talking to a friend of mine on what I think a good raid in Warframe could look like and he thought I should share the idea here so I would like to hear what you guys think.
ALTHOUGH I DON’T THINK I WENT INTO ANY SPOILER TERRITORY I STILL WANT TO WARN THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE NOT DONE THE DEADLOCK PROTOCOL NOR CALL OF THE TEMPESTARII. I WILL TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE REVEALED IN THESE QUESTS. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOT MAJOR SPOILERS, SOME MAY CONSIDER IT SPOILERS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Assault on Parvo Granum's Ship

Tenno, we have located Parvo Granum ship's in the Neptune Proxima Sector. Your mission is to infiltrate his ship and eliminate Parvo Granum. Be cautious, he has armed his forces with all the military equipment money can buy. This may be your most challenging assignment yet; you will need reinforcements from your fellow Tenno. - Lotus
Pre-Raid
To unlock the raid, you will need to have completed all nodes in steel path, completed the quests The New War, and Call of the Tempestarii. There will be a solo quest to unlock it called "Locating Parvos Granum" where you will do a "light" version of the raid to understand how the raid will work. After you finish it, a new node will be unlocked, a Relay which serves as the Hub to the raid which has the market for the raid and a leaderboard.
The quest will be a solo quest, the normal version will be a 1 squad 4 player raid, then the true raid (Steel Path) will be a 4 squad 16 player raid. Steel Path Raid will only unlock when you have completed the normal raid at least once.

Phase 0: Raid Prep

Phase 1: Railjack Assault

Tenno, there it is, the Creator of Enormous Opportunities (C.E.O.). It is more heavily guarded then we expected. You will need to destroy the surrounding ships to create an opening. Be careful, they have already spotted you. - Lotus
The mission will start in your Railjack. Your objective is similar to Railjack missions in which you will have to destroy Fighter Crafts, Crewships, and board the Corpus Capital Ships to destroy the shield that guards the C.E.O.

Phase 2: Infiltrate

Tenno, this C.E.O. is different, it is using an adaptive firewall that cannot be hacked the conventional way. We must stop its adaptation before I can hack into the systems to disable the... Oh no, life support systems are down and multiple reinforcements are on the way! Hack into the systems, keep the oxygen flowing, and stop the reinforcement before it is too late! - Lotus
Phase 2 will have you start at a central point with 5 doors.
After going back and forth between these 4 doors, door 5 will open and you will move on to the last pahse.

Phase 3: Parvos Granum

Tenno. What an honor for you to join me in this important business meeting. I was about to show these investors what true power my new creations have brought except, we did not have test subjects. Thank you for investing your bodies to the Corpus cause. - Parvos Granum
Tenno. Be careful, my scanners are [static] up an [static]high energy [static]. It [static]unlike anything [long static] seen before. This [static] mistake, retreat now! - Lotus
Too late Lotus - Parvos Granum
Phase 3 is a boss battle with Parvos Granum, The Sisters of Parvos, and his new MOA, Corpus' Tenno Obliterator (C.T.O.)
After killing everything, exhausted the Tenno approaches Parvos Gran who is on the verge of death only to find out it is a specter.
So these new specters were able to fool even the Lotus. Imagine how our companies will be if we can always be there, watching over them. - Investor A
I agree, we can essentially live forever without the same drawbacks as the Queens had with Kuva. - Investor B
Though it is still in its early stages, I am excited to see how you will improve this Parvos - Investor C
Thank you. Now onto our next agenda. Oh, and Tenno, thank you too for investing in the Corpus cause - Parvos Granum
Once all that is done, we find out that Parvos left some of his investments in the ship (aka our loot). We collect it and extract

Reward

This is the part that I do not really know the best way to handle but I do have some general ideas
  1. The reward here needs to be exclusive. Even if D.E. makes a new raid in the future, these rewards cannot be shared to keep each raid valuable
  2. On that same note, they cannot be traded, only earned
  3. The different tires will give you different rewards
    1. Solo Story will unlock the raid
    2. Normal Raid will reveille 4 rewards and you pick 1 (like how relics work)
    3. Steel path will reveille 16 rewards and you pick 4 (like how relics work)
  4. The rewards are drawn from a pool of rewards
    1. The common pool will include a "Corpus Coin" which can be used to buy common rewards in the raid relay
    2. The uncommon pool will include a "Corpus Void Infuser" which can crack open a relic without you having to run void fissures
    3. The rare pool will include exclusive weapons and by getting the weapons, you unlock their skins to be used in weapons of the same category
    4. An exclusive skin for the Warframe you used in the raid (only available in the Steel Path Raid) that you automatically get when you finish the raid
  5. You get a certain amount of rewards from the reward pool per week (let’s say 5 like now the Netracells are) and after that you only get "Corpus Coin" as a reward
  6. In the relay shop, you can buy evergreen items like relic packs, arcanes, endo, credits, kuva, universal medallions, etc... I don't know where would be fair to draw the line but there needs to be a reason to run the raid even after you have done your weekly runs

Conclusion

Thank you for joining my Ted Talk, and I would love to hear your suggestions on how to make this better. Any edits I do I will include the old version below as a record of how it has changed (if this post gets a lot of views/comments)
Edit 1: Grammar
Edit 2: Changed the sister spawn in Steel path from 10 to 4 at once
Edit 3: Changed the ending from:
After the C.T.O. is destroyed, I can see a few different scenarios depending on how D.E. wants the story to progress
  1. We find out that the Parvos Granum we fought was a new, more intelligent specter, and the real Parvos is on another C.E.O. ship collecting data for the next C.T.O./Spector
  2. The investors are not happy with the C.T.O. and decide not to invest and Parvos furious escapes
  3. We harm Parvos leaving him with some kind of skar and he swears he will return with an improved C.T.O.

2024.05.12 19:05 Jcb112 Wearing Power Armor to a Magic School (79/?)

First Previous Next
Patreon Official Subreddit Series Wiki Royal Road
About half of the student body was blinded by the sudden and intense flash of light that blanketed the room.
The other half seemed to have reacted in time to shield themselves from that unexpected assault on the senses.
I was part of that latter half.
And what I saw during those precious few seconds of visual overstimulation was nothing short of remarkable.
The walls that had resembled Mal’tory’s dark and dreary office quaked and quivered in place, as if the whole room was a living organism, and we were somehow nestled within its guts.
Each of the ornate wooden panels began dislodging from one another, their formerly flush surfaces cracking, revealing seams where there had been none before. These seams too began expanding, as each of the panels started wobbling, wiggling, then eventually disconnecting from one another entirely; moving independently of one another as if freeing themselves from a long-dormant state.
For a moment, they looked almost like a reptile’s scales when put under magnification.
Then, and without any warning, they began disappearing, each panel violently pulled back and into some dark anomalous void that existed behind the walls themselves; sending the EVI into another fit of spatial error reports.
We were, for a split second, completely wall-less. But not a second after the old walls had been… for lack of a better term — banished to the literal shadow realm, did a set of new walls suddenly take their place.
And quite dramatically too.
As an entirely new wallface suddenly emerged darkness of the void, one that was earthy in tones, and reminded me more of those old teakwood heritage buildings back on Earth. There were fewer embellishments to them compared to the previous Victorian-styled walls, less patterns and ostentatious designs, instead simply going with this less is more approach that left vast empty gaps where decorations and patterns were previously present. It was almost as if they were left empty and bare for a reason.

Out of nowhere, dozens of pots, planters, and trellises suddenly embedded themselves through the wall, decorating what was no longer a blank canvas.
Plantlife soon followed this open invitation for a free home, as hundreds of flowers bloomed all across the wall, carefully trimmed and perfectly appointed to the lattice structures they coiled on, with not a single one of them looking too wild or out of place.
The sudden and abrupt remodeling completely threw me off.
At least, until the source of it all suddenly made themselves known.
“Welcome, first years, to Mana-field perception and Light Magic theory.” The voice continued, as through the literal haze of change came a female figure that the EVI had little problem assigning a name and identifier to.
ENTITY IFF CONFIRMED: A109 Apprentice Larial Essen - NEXUS [CORDIAL]
Yet strangely, the metallic footsteps that I’d heard just before she crossed the staff door’s threshold didn’t seem to follow her. Instead, only the apprentice emerged from the door behind the lectern.
She continued towards the lectern with a forced and somewhat stiff poise and gait, her general demeanor identical to how she carried herself prior to the whole crate saga. Which was of course, stern, tired, and completely unyielding; a fact supported by the impeccable posture she used to walk into class.
Though the class’ focus certainly wasn’t on her demeanor, or her posture, nor even on the room that had completely morphed into a completely different space.
No.
It was instead almost squarely focused on the apprentice’s cloak, which was most certainly not black.
This prompted the entire room to erupt into a frenzy of whispers, tempered only by those daring enough to deploy privacy screens.
But before those antics could evolve any further, and before my mind could even catch up with this turn of events, a loud, high-pitched, and unbroken — SHUSH — erupted from the front of the class. Emerging from a certain gorn-like lizard, who’d stood up to face us rather than the apprentice currently manning her podium. “ALL STUDENTS RISE!” He commanded.
To which the entire class followed, with the only two tentative parties being myself and a certain bull.
“ALL STUDENTS FORWARD AND BOW!” He continued, prompting the whole class to follow suit, and from there, receiving a head-tilt’s worth of praise from the apprentice.
“Thank you, Lord Qiv.” The apprentice spoke appreciatively, before setting her sights on the rest of the desks and chairs—
ALERT: LOCALIZED SURGE OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED, 200% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
—which were subsequently transformed into brighter-toned variants of their formerly dark and depressive selves. “I understand that there may be quite a few lingering questions amongst the crowd that quite a few of you wish to be addressed. In the spirit of ensuring that these needless thoughts and senseless rumors do not come to cloud your mind throughout the rest of class, thereby rendering these lessons moot, I wish for them to be addressed here and now.” Larial announced tacitly, but with a severity that was clearly modeled off of her mentor.
The mood of the room quickly changed following that.
But instead of shifting to the deference and submission in Articord’s class, or the tentative acceptance of Vanavan’s class, there was instead an overarching tone of outright confusion.
It was as if the whole class didn’t know how best to handle the situation.
But whilst the rest of the room remained undecided, with a few shaky hands rising up one by one, a sense of relief quickly washed over me as my emotions finally managed to catch up to the rapidly developing turn of events.
I couldn’t help but to immediately activate the in-armor positional readjustment mode in the suit, allowing myself to just… slouch; as I took in the class with a renewed wave of reprieve.
It was that same feeling you get when you arrive on the day of the test, only to find it delayed by a week. Or that feeling you get when a notification arrives in the dead of night, on the eve of a presentation, to inexplicably announce that the whole project was now put on hold due to some unforeseen event.
But unlike those situations where the why of the situation didn’t really matter… here, it most certainly did.
Which prompted me to listen in, as the questions began flying towards the apprentice.
“If I may be the one so brazen as to offer myself as the voice of the year group, Apprentice Essen?” A certain Auris Ping took the lead, having been chosen by the apprentice amidst a sea of equally inquisitive hands.
“The floor is yours, Lord Ping.” The apprentice proclaimed.
“Thank you, Apprentice.” The bull responded curtly, eliciting a particularly intense glare from the likes of Thalmin. “Where is Professor Mal’tory?”
The apprentice’s features shifted somewhat at that question, as if she wasn’t expecting something that blunt and straightforward right out of the gate. “The professor’s whereabouts are the business of the Academy’s faculty and staff.” She spoke firmly, yet with an authority that she was clearly under equipped to wield. “If you wish to inquire as to the nature of this class going forward, I will be more than happy to-”
A series of hands were raised even before the apprentice had even finished her sentence. Which prompted the overworked and exhausted elf to switch over to another student before she even had time to finish her own thoughts. “The floor is yours, Lady Ladona.”
“Thank you, Apprentice. Now, to clarify, are we to expect you to be teaching us for the rest of this class?” The being, which I could only describe as a butterfly with most of their insectoid-traits toned down, asked politely.
“That is correct, Lady Ladona.”
“And is this expected to continue for… the rest of the month?” Ladona continued, her features shifting if only to show her growing sense of confidence.“The semester perhaps? Or maybe even the rest of the school year?” She continued at a rapid-fire pace, making a point to catch the apprentice off-guard before she could even respond to that first point.
“The responsibility of tutelage has been deferred to me on the basis of Professor Mal’tory’s current inability to fulfill this particular aspect of his responsibilities owing to his current engagements. This will remain so, until the Professor returns from said engagements.” The apprentice responded in that same jaded, no-nonsense tone of voice she’d used during our pre-life debt interactions.
It was, however, woefully inadequate in dealing with the likes of a vicious social predator like Ladona, who immediately waded through the tepid waters towards the first sign of weakness. “So when can we expect his return, Apprentice?” She pushed further, her polite tone of voice acting like a velvet cloth, barely concealing the sharp mandibles beneath it.
“That is something I cannot answer.” The apprentice replied sternly, taking a stand against the shark that had now tasted blood in the water.
“Is this because of a lack of correspondence to the faculty?” The butterfly-person shot back quickly with an innocent cock of her head, her antennae swaying as she did so.
“I am not at a privilege to divulge such details, and that is most certainly not the case, Lady Ladona.”
“My apologies, Apprentice.” Ladona spoke in a calculated show of apologetics. “In any case, am I to assume then that in addition to the responsibility of tutelage, that the responsibilities of proctorship, examination, and evaluation, have likewise been deferred to you?” She shifted gears once more, this time, her question garnered quite a few murmurs to emerge from the rest of the class.
Murmurs which, as the EVI’s little picture-in-picture subtitles hinted at, were all in support of Auris Ping’s right-hand.
“That’s right… are we to assume that an apprentice of all people will be responsible for the evaluation of our performance?”
“I mean, she is an elf, that should count for something right-”
“Have some dignity! Just because she’s an elf, doesn’t mean she has any right to be dictating the fate of our academic progress!”
“That’s right! This is an insult to our titles! How dare they relegate the tutelage of a class to a mere pitiable apprentice! What do they take us for, the dregs of society?”
These hot-takes continued escalating further and further, until finally, and seemingly out of nowhere, several of those voices began dying down seemingly mid-sentence; something had distracted them from their little outbursts.
In fact, as the seconds ticked by, Thacea, Thalmin, and Ilunor turned towards each other knowingly, as if sensing that something was amiss.
That something was soon made clear to me by a sudden uptick of mana that rose from two, to three, to four hundred percent above background radiation.
At which point, several warnings suddenly slammed my HUD.
ALERT: LOCALIZED SURGE OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED, 400% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
CAUTION: Concentrated Heat-Energy Surge Detected!
CAUTION: Localized Temperature Surge Detected!
Those caution reticles quickly formed just behind the apprentice, hovering ominously over that void-filled doorway, right before a stream of concentrated flames surged forwards towards her.
However, instead of dodging, ducking, or leaping out of the way, she stood firm; her features not even shifting even a little.
As right before the flames made contact, so too did they suddenly stop, as that surge of mana radiation fluctuated wildly—
ALERT: VARIABLE FREQUENCY FLUCTUATION OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED 200 - 400% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
—before suddenly disappearing.
The room was left stunned.
Any remaining conversations were halted mid way, with many of the more chatty students barely even registering what’d just happened.
So for those who lacked situational awareness, and were still very much looking around for the reason why the rest of the class had gone silent, there was a round two to these attacks that erupted as suddenly as the first.
ALERT: LOCALIZED SURGE OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED, 650% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
This was signaled at first by the cracking of rock and the quaking of the entire room, followed closely by four distinct sinkholes forming along the floor at the very front of the lecture hall. A gurgling, churning noise echoed ominously from deep within the newly-formed holes, like an ancient concrete mixer dialed up to eleven.
Eventually, it stopped.
And soon after, four humanoid earthen behemoths erupted from those sinkholes. Each of them easily towered over the apprentice, whilst each of their fists were at least a full Ilunor in size.
A tense confrontation followed, and a silence that could be shattered by a pin drop soon descended upon the formerly whisper-filled room.
Yet despite it all, the apprentice didn’t move a single muscle, and to top it all off her eyes were closed shut as if in deep thought.
Seconds passed.
Then finally, the four cobblestone golems made their move.
All four moved in sync, their first steps caused the whole hall to shudder, prompting me to instinctively flinch towards my sidearm as the events of the second day hit me harder than a sack of bricks.
The first golem was poised to strike her side—
ALERT: VARIABLE FREQUENCY FLUCTUATION OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED 300 - 650% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
—but found itself crumbling before our eyes, as local mana radiation spiked and shifted erratically.
The second golem reached down with its fist, poised to grab the apprentice through the lectern—
ALERT: VARIABLE FREQUENCY FLUCTUATION OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED 250 - 700% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
—but like the first, it found itself reduced to rubble, falling where it stood; as rock by rock, it collapsed under its own weight.
The third and fourth golems charged forward together, lunging down fast towards the lectern—
ALERT: VARIABLE FREQUENCY FLUCTUATION OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED 350 - 725% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
—but like the first and second, they too found themselves victims to the great equalizer that was gravity, as whatever magical glue was holding them together just up and failed, reducing those humanoid forms into harmless piles of rock.
A few stray rocks did reach the lectern, but were effortlessly swatted away by an invisible barrier, leaving the apprentice and her immediate surroundings completely unharmed.
Silence once more descended on the entire class.
But just like the silence from before, that lull period wasn’t destined to last, as a loud, boisterous, and jolly series of bellowing laughs emerged from behind the void of that door.
I could tell, with immediate certainty, who that voice belonged to.
I didn’t even need the EVI’s tag system for this one.
ENTITY IFF CONFIRMED: A110 Professor Sorecar Latil Almont Pliska - NEXUS [CORDIAL]
“Spectacular work, young apprentice! Spectacular work indeed!” The man came marching through the door, walking up and towards the apprentice.
“Thank you, Professor-Armorer Pliska.” The apprentice responded softly, prompting the armorer to reply with a sharp and brisk bow of his own.
“You can reserve your thanks for after class, I have plenty more exercises where that came from, and each and every one is going to be tougher than the last!” The man proclaimed not-so-discreetly, eliciting a worried expression to form on the apprentice’s face, highlighting the seriousness of the otherwise lackadaisical tone of his voice. “Needless to say, I don’t think you’ll be thanking me much after I’m done with you! The Academy’s gotten a bit softer over the years, and I’m about to make up for lost time before they toss old-Sorecar Latil Almont Pliska back into the workshop!” He paused, before shifting his tone towards a more menacing one. “And that applies to your understudies as well, Apprentice.”
“Now!” The armorer quickly shifted his attention from the apprentice, and towards class, his gesticulations wild, as if making for the apprentice’s slower, more sluggish demeanor. More specifically, he maintained this sort of “Y” posture, with both arms high above his head as he spoke. “For those of you wondering exactly what just happened… well, perhaps it would be best for you to leave the class considering this is exactly the sort of thing we’ll both be expecting of you following the conclusion of this school year! And for those of you who openly doubt the qualifications of our dear apprentice here… just know that she was hand-picked by Professor Mal’tory himself for a reason.” The man paused, before bringing his arms back down to his sides, if only to emphasize his point, before resuming the posture from before. “And until I see a single one of you being personally selected by a black, red, blue, or white-robed professor… I don’t want to hear a single peep of doubt from you lot. At least as it pertains to the apprentice’s ability to teach these classes! And if you need an extra guarantee of such? Well… know that the Academy does not allow an apprentice to teach without supervision from an appointed Professor of the Magical Arts.” He paused, as if for dramatic effect, before pointing both hands down towards himself. “Which just so happens to be the only Professor otherwise free from the burdens of stringent schedules — yours truly!”
To Sorecar’s credit, the murmurs born of inflated egos, and the whispers of dissidence did not once dare to interrupt, or follow-up on the man’s proclamations.
If anything, that entire… display was enough to keep the critics at bay, and the ones on the fence to fully hop back on the side of respect.
At least, until one group decided to tempt fate, deploying a privacy screen.
ALERT: LOCALIZED SURGE OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED, 350% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
If only for that privacy screen to suffer the same effects as the rest of the spells casted throughout class thus far.
ALERT: VARIABLE FREQUENCY FLUCTUATION OF MANA-RADIATION DETECTED 100 - 350% ABOVE BACKGROUND RADIATION LEVELS
“Bold! Brash! And indeed, cheeky, if that word still holds true in this era’s vernacular!” Sorecar announced with a laugh that radiated deep from within his armor. “Unlike other classes that prohibit the casting of magic save for practice or demonstrative purposes, I fully allow it, nay, I say, I encourage it! You youths should be free to cast magic whenever and however you like!” The man paused soon after, and once again shifted gears towards a more severe timbre, yet never once losing that lackadaisical personality I knew him for. “But just remember, while you may freely practice these magical gifts you have and hold so highly, doing such in this class is to be considered a direct challenge by yours truly! This is the study of Light Magic and Mana-field Perception, after all! And thus, in the spirit of scholarly competition, I shall take every spell cast as a chance to prove what’s what!”
The man paused, before gesturing towards the apprentice. “Now, for those of you still quite confused with the definition of Light Magic as it pertains to the Nexian vernacular, I shall defer the right of tutelage back to that of our dear Apprentice. The floor is yours, my lady.”
A brief exchange of bows between the teaching duo was had, before the apprentice finally started, now with all doubts and concerns fully addressed not just by words alone, but through action as well.
“As all of you may have already discerned, the demonstration Professor Pliska had so graciously provided, was an attempt to illustrate the most visible effects of Light Magic — that being the detection and subsequent dispelling of active and pre-active spells. The subject of Light magic, thus refers to the study of the detection, dispelling, counterspelling, and disarming of all forms of other magics.”
“And by that definition, it is the single most combative field of magic there is.” Sorecar promptly chimed in with a nod towards the apprentice, almost like he was tag-teaming this opening statement with her; establishing a precedent for the dynamics of the class. “For in order to practice Light Magic, one must be in the presence of an active spell. And in order to truly practice Light Magic, one must be in the presence of active danger, as unlike most forms of magic, unevenness and intensity in casting is key to the successful destabilization of an offending spell.”
So THAT’S what the fluctuations were.” I thought to myself outloud inside my helmet.
“Moreover—” Sorecar continued, raising his arms into the air once again as if to emphasize his points. “—to the seasoned and the wise, Light Magic as a field is known to be the single most versatile field in existence. For if implemented correctly, it has the capacity to bring all other forms of magic to its knees.”
“Versatility and adaptability are core elements of Light Magic, so while not capable of much harm by itself, it is capable of incredible feats of defense if used correctly.”
To say that I was pleasantly surprised would’ve been an understatement by this point. Because not only was Mal’tory completely out for the count, and not only was he replaced by two of my only cordial relations within the Academy thus far, but the class itself was refreshingly straightforward. There was no mincing around words like Vanavan’s class of lectures, there was also no overt signs of blatant propaganda and indoctrination like in Articord’s class. Instead, this whole class started out with a practical demo of all things, followed up essentially with a breakdown of exactly what we were studying.
“What you observed during the start of class, were just two out of a near-infinite set of examples demonstrating counterspell and dispelling measures, a rather dramatic one I might add but one that you may very well one day use.” The apprentice continued following yet another exchange of nods with Sorecar.
“And indeed, while they may have seemed trivial to the keen-eyed observer, the execution of their dispelling is anything but. Because despite what most misinformed minds may believe regarding counterspelling — dispelling isn’t simply a matter of overpowering an offending spell with a burst of mana, but instead, more akin to the unwinding of a knot, or the picking of a lock. You must act to untangle a spell, until the spell itself falls apart at the seams.” Sorecar continued, before once again swapping the baton with Larial through an exchange of nods.
“Which is exactly why Light Magic continues to be a field forever expanding in its domain.” The apprentice continued. “Because as every other field develops more and more convoluted forms of spells and artificing, so too does Light Magic have to adapt, improvise, and overcome these advanced and oftentimes eclectic means of casting.”
So an arms race… I thought to myself.
“It is, in essence, a pure magic field. Yet it is applied as if it were an applied magical field of study.” Sorecar surmised, prompting me to actually listen in with genuine intent, this marking the first moment I was truly engaged with a class with none of its politics.
“And as for the Mana-Field Perception class?” The apprentice continued with an inquisitive tone of voice. “It’s effectively an extension, or rather, a foundational element of Light Magic depending on how one wishes to view it. Because in order to become proficient in Light Magic, you have to first understand and hone your abilities in order to detect the nuances within mana-streams and mana-fields. It is only through the detection of disruptions and the accurate understanding of a spell being cast, that you are able to apply more advanced abjurations in an attempt to counter these spells. Sometimes even before they’re cast if you’re so inclined to.”
“Now, how many of you can genuinely say you noticed the shift in the room’s aura prior to the casting of that Firestream?” Sorecar asked the crowd, prompting almost every hand to be raised.
“Well that’s just a blatant lie now, isn’t it?” The man retorted bluntly. “I can tell by your reactions just before the Flamespear hit, you know. So please, honestly now, I’m giving you one more chance to answer.”
About three quarters of the class lowered their hands, leaving only the gang, Auris Ping and Qiv’s group, as well as a few other scattered students to maintain their raised hands.
“Alright, that’s about exactly the number I counted from behind the veil! Rightio then!” Sorecar proclaimed through what I could only imagine would’ve been a grin if it wasn’t for his armor. “This is exactly why mana-field perception is necessary. Because to most mages, it is a learned skill rather than an inherent trait. Which, of course, is by no means a demerit! But moreso, a wonderful little oddity in the grander tapestry that is the magical arts and pedagogue!”
The apprentice quickly followed that up with a series of talks once more summarizing the expectations of the class. Mana-field perception was, unsurprisingly, divided into practical and theoretical assessments. Which, at first, seemed to be a potential roadblock, until I realized one fundamental way this class could actually benefit my aims.
“EVI?” I spoke inwardly, as Larial started her lectures on mana-field perception.
“Yes, Cadet Booker?”
“Is there any chance you can maybe interpolate and extrapolate on the Apprentice’s points? As in, is it possible to… visualize magic, as opposed to just alerting me to bursts of it?”
“The mana-radiation visualization project, or MRVP, has been in development for some time, Cadet Booker. The research and development teams however, were unable to create a reliable model for field-use that wouldn’t have been a liability to operations.”
“So it wasn’t field-deployable because of the variance and accuracy issue.”
“Correct, Cadet Booker.”
“Alright, and you said all they needed was more data to create a better model for it, right?”
“Correct, Cadet Booker.”
“Could you… do that with this? Is that within your mission parameters to do so?”
“It is indeed one of the many ongoing projects taking up the bulk of my processing capacity, Cadet Booker. However, proper implementation of this will require additional hardware to be developed, tested, and then field-deployed for testing. The success rate of which is yet to be determined. I cannot guarantee this operation will yield the desired results inferred, Cadet Booker.”
“Alright, that’s good enough for me.” I acknowledged, before turning back to class with a renewed sense of invigoration.
The lecture continued, only stopping about midway as the apprentice realized she’d yet to elaborate on the whole Light Magic class side of things.
Which, it turns out, was more or less similar to Mana-field perception in its assessment criteria — that being a mix of practical and theory assessments. A combination of written exams and practical counterspelling would be expected in tests, midterms, and finals. This would mark my first true hurdle… but then again, perhaps I could balance out the rest of my grades against the practicals which was more or less an impossibility given my obvious human limitations…
“As with most of the classes in the first year, I will treat both periods as one. As both subjects are intertwined, we may see glimpses of both within the same period.” The apprentice continued, before shifting gears towards something else. “And on the topic of periods, since we’re nearing the conclusion of the first, with lunch quickly coming upon us, I believe it to be necessary to inform everyone now of what awaits at the end of this second period.” The apprentice spoke ominously, as she made the effort of meeting every one of the students’ gazes. “By day’s end, I intend for a pair of you to perform a practical demonstration of the fundamentals of light magic. So I expect everyone to pay close attention after lunch.”
A small pause punctuated the room yet again, before Sorecar, after several hours of silence, came to complete the apprentice’s thoughts; his faceplate squeaked to form a shape that just barely gave off the feeling of a smirk.
“Be prepared, and be ready, for your first real brush with magical dueling.”
First being the operative word here, I must add.” The apprentice quickly clarified. “Within the bounds of demonstrative purposes.”
I could just about hear the band rounding out the corner outside the hall, and I could just about see a few students ready to pack up their things for lunch.
However, before the band could arrive, Thalmin unexpectedly stood up, raising his hand in the process.
“Yes, Prince Thalmin Havenbrock?” The apprentice acknowledged.
“I wish to volunteer as the issuer of this duel, and to designate the other party for this duel as well.”
The apprentice paused, considering this carefully, before nodding. “Granted, though I warn you Prince Havenbrock, this is an introductory demonstration, and will be treated as such. In any case, who would you wish to designate as the other party?”
“Lord Auris Ping.”

(Author’s Note: And there we have it! Light Magic Theory and Manafield Perception classes are both now in session! This is probably the most fun and engaging class I've written yet, and this is a sentiment that Emma shares as well! I do hope you guys share the sentiment haha as I still think that action is something I still am quite lacking in, in terms of my abilities to properly write and convey it. I hope you guys enjoy! :D The next Two Chapters are already up on Patreon if you guys are interested in getting early access to future chapters!)
[If you guys want to help support me and these stories, here's my ko-fi ! And my Patreon for early chapter releases (Chapter 80 and Chapter 81 of this story is already out on there!)]

Russian forces are making a push, animal testing ramps up for H5N1, and over 365 days of temperature records…
Last Week in Collapse: May 5-11, 2024
This is Last Week in Collapse, a weekly newsletter compiling some of the most important, timely, useful, soul-crushing, ironic, stunning, exhausting, or otherwise must-see/can’t-look-away moments in Collapse.
This is the 124th newsletter. You can find the April 28-May 4 edition here if you missed it last week. You can also receive these posts (with images) every Sunday in your email inbox with Substack.
——————————
Earth experienced its largest CO2 concentration increase over a 12-month period, scientists say, from March 2023-2024. It was a jump of 4.7ppm more of carbon dioxide, blamed on deforestation, fossil fuels, and El Niño. Experts are saying that El Niño has peaked, and will transition to La Niña within a few months. La Niña lasts about 1-3 years, and it generally cools the Pacific Ocean, and brings more rain to India & Bangladesh, among other changes. Earth also experienced its greatest atmospheric moisture for the month of April.
Venezuela has lost its last glacier, the Humboldt, which was reclassified into an “ice field.” It is the first modern nation to lose all its glaciers. Scientists believe Indonesia, Mexico, and Slovenia are next in line to see the extinction of their glaciers. Colombia is also rapidly losing its remaining 6 glaciers.
Wildfires in Chile have killed about a hundred people, and injured & displaced thousands. Flooding in Afghanistan. And climate change is ruining cotton crops, and livestock, in Chad. Plus, flooding struck the DRC, overflowing rivers and latrines—affecting some 500,000 people. And some climatologists think we have been underestimating how much climate change is driving greater rainfall & flooding; the worst is yet to come.
The first week of May saw so many temperature records broken; some are claiming that it might be the “most record breaking month in climatic history”—until June, that is. Earth has been seeing 13 months of monthly records being broken for global sea surface temperatures. Literally 365 days of record-breaking ocean temperatures.
A study in PNAS examined North Pacific “warm blob” heat waves from 2010-2020, and concluded that China’s reduction in aerosols, which cleaned the air but also removed the sun-reflective particles, incidentally probably caused marine heat waves which killed fish and resulted in algae blooms.
Bees are having difficulty acclimatizing their nests to rising temperatures. The dugong, while still rarely seen in parts of the world, has been declared extinct inside China, having gone 24 years without a known sighting. In Florida, the suburbification of land under development is pushing the Florida panther closer to extinction; some 100 panthers remain in the sunshine state.
Siberia’s Batagaika crater—I prefer its alternative title, “megaslump”—is expanding by about 1M cubic meters, every year. Scientists naturally blame the rapid permafrost melting on climate change.
A cruise ship entered New York City with an endangered 44 ft {13.4m} dead sea whale stuck on its bow (front). Investigators are looking into whether it was already dead when the ship hit it. A study in Conservation Letters looked at the 100 largest Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)—which cover 7.3% of all ocean area—and found that almost 60% of this area is not in range of meeting the 2030 preservation goals.
Part of India broke May records already; the Maldives, too. Eastern Ukraine ended a far warmer & wetter April than usual. And a heat wave in Mexico scorched previous May temperature records across 10 cities, as well as small regional blackouts. North America felt its all-time hottest May temperature...

AstraZeneca is pulling its COVID vaccine from the EU over a rare blood clooting side effect. Nevertheless, some experts claim that vaccine saved over 6M lives. Whatever U.S. CDC data on COVID is still available points to “a small rise” in cases later this summer, mostly from the growing KP.2 “FLiRT” variant.
COVID patients and immunocompromised individuals are still using lots of healthcare resources, and the rise of resistant superbugs is developing alarmingly fast. According to the article, “It only takes about a year on average for bacteria to grow resistant to treatment, when they used to take 21 years to evolve back in the 1960s.”
Engineers and medical professionals remain concerned about nanoplastics, between 1-1,000 nanometers wide. One grain of sand is about 500,000 nanometers, and one strand of DNA is about 2.5 nanometers. A single wavelength of light ranges from 400-700 nanometers.
South Africa’s water shortage is projected to worsen through at least 2025. Nairobi’s water shortage continues, despite the city’s dams being filled with floodwater. Costa Rica is facing a Drought so bad it’s rationing electricity. Mexico City—the second-most-populous city (by metro area: 21.8M; São Paolo is #1, at 22M) in North America— is seeing more than 20% of freshwater sources exhausted, and rationing is not enough. It’s almost like we’re living at unsustainable levels of consumption…
As Latin America warms (and suffers flooding), disease is becoming more common—as well as heat stroke & serious hunger. Benin is refusing Niger the permission to use its port to export oil, as a result of a border dispute.
A paywalled study in Nature Water tested a new method for removing PFAS foam particles in water, with “near-complete destruction of PFAS in various water samples contaminated by the foams.” The process involves “ultra-violet (UV) light, sulfite, and a process called electrochemical oxidation” and does not require heat or high pressure. The number of U.S. states phasing out PFAS is growing.
As forcible repatriations of thousands of Afghans continue, millions of Afghans are suffering from lack of humanitarian aid—aggravated by recent deadly flash floods in the beleaguered, landlocked, failed state.
Yeasty superfungus Candida Auris infections were detected in 77 cases in Germany last year, authorities say. Candida Auris was only identified 15 years ago, but its three separate genetic variants (each on a different continent) have stealthily and stubbornly grown to pose a stealth threat to humankind. It is incredibly resistant to antifungal drugs, and it survives at higher temperatures than most other fungi. The WHO has listed it on a shortlist of top fungal pathogen dangers.
3 cats died from H5N1 in the United States last week. Some health professionals are getting more worried about a future H5N1 jump to become human-to-human transmissible, and claim that we are not ready as a species. Experts say we are not doing enough testing, and may already be in the prologue of a much more devastating pandemic. Scientists still say it is unlikely that a strain will make the critical mutation necessary, but the similarities between human and cow (and other mammal) flu receptors present potential complications.
The world is supposedly being divided into three general trade blocs: U.S., China, and the non-aligned states. For better or worse, globalization is crumbling, and governments are imposing tariffs, attempting to reshore industries, and restructure debt & credit flows. What will happen when the people, long-trained to expect high returns, find their profits wanting?

Two camps for internally displaced people near Goma, DRC were bombed, killing 12+ and injuring 20+. The perpetrators and their motives are unclear.
Rising crime. Drinking water. Closing the Darien Gap. These were the issues propelling Panama’s president-elect to a victory last Sunday. The arrival of rain is also improving conditions on the Drought-choken Panama Canal, expected to return to normal for at least a month or two.
A wave of Chinese espionage, much of it several years old, is sweeping Europe. Of particular concern is a hack of British military personnel information uncovered on Tuesday—which China denies. Similar espionage against the U.S. has reportedly cost the economy hundreds of billions per year.
Kenya’s mission to stabilize Haiti is inching forward slowly. The Pentagon has ordered its 1,000 troops to leave Niger. At least one Saudi villager was killed to make room for The Line, and reports claim Saudi forces have been given the green light to clear other people who get in the way of the development. Germany’s Defence Ministry is seriously considering recommending conscription for its 18-year olds later this summer.
Displacement in Myanmar has spiked over the past six months—and now counts 3M+ people since the February 2021 coup which sparked more open resistance.
Tunisia ejected ~400 migrants into Libya. Kazakhstan is expelling Tajik migrants in far-ranging sweeps. In Lebanon, vigilante attacks against Syrians have become more common. Mauritania is conducting military drills along part of its border with Mali, after reports emerged of Malian soldiers attacking border settlements.
In Sudan, over 200 witnesses corroborated reports of a massacre last June, where RSF insurgents piled up and shot” at least 17 people, most of whom were children. A lengthy report from Human Rights Watch, complete with timelines, testimony, war crimes, and other horrors from Sudan is over 150 pages. I did not have the fortitude to skim much of it.
A Hamas attack on Sunday, which killed 4 Israeli soldiers, reportedly pushed the Rafah invasion ahead of schedule. The IDF took over the Egypt-Gaza border, and is scaling up operations in southern Gaza. In response, the U.S. paused arms transfers to Israel. Any chance of a ceasefire, if there was ever really a credible chance, will have to wait. Diarrhea is soaring in Gaza, due in large part to a critical water shortage, caused by the destruction of wastewater treatment plants, the damage to water infrastructure, and large-scale displacement. A new evacuation order has commanded over 1M people in Gaza to leave before a more comprehensive invasion of Rafah begins.
A day after President Putin was inaugurated for his fifth term, he ordered a wide strike at Ukrainian infrastructure across seven oblasts. Most of the missiles and drones were shot down. And another plot to assassinate Zelenskyy was foiled. Lithuania is considering sending military trainers into Ukraine. Putin announced that Russian forces would target Western soldiers deployed in Ukraine, and begin drills simulating nuclear weapons if Britain’s involvement grows. Already, Belarus conducted a military drill with missiles & planes capable of using nukes.
In addition to extending Ukraine’s mobilization by another 90 days, the government has also allowing some convicts to fight on the battlefield in exchange for reduced sentences. Poland is allegedly considering repatriating thousands of draft-eligible Ukrainian men, and Germany is emphasizing the need for Ukrainian refugees to work.
Japan is boosting investment in a hypersonic missile interceptor project with the United States. A large-scale Russian offensive has begun across the front-lines, particularly around Kharkiv. And Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is beginning talk of a “genocide” in Moldova, which could provide the pretext for another special military operation in Transnistria—and perhaps beyond.

Things to watch out for next week include:
↠ The IDMC is releasing their 2024 report on Internally Displaced People (IDPs) on Tuesday, with estimates for total figures by nation & region.
Select comments/threads from the subreddit last week suggest:
-High temperatures are going to ruin food—and a lot of people’s health. This thread about the contamination of bánh mi in Vietnam sheds some light on the interconnectivity of our problems. Add in some heat wave-induced power outages, loose government regulation, and hospital problems, and you can imagine how this slow-moving disaster can cripple a community.
-“Microforests” may help mitigate some of the effects of ecosystem collapse and desertification—as well as boosting your property value, judging by this thread and its comments.
-One Collapsenik published a free ebook & audiobook satirizing American Collapse—and I’m not just linking because this newsletter was apparently a source of Doom inspiration. If you write an 80,000 word novel about Collapse, featuring some 300 references, I’ll share it too. Maybe one day I’ll have the time to write one…
Got any feedback, questions, comments, complaints, upvotes, movie recommendations, good off-grid land deals, locust broth, etc.? Check out the Last Week in Collapse SubStack if you don’t want to check collapse every Sunday, you can receive this newsletter sent to your (or someone else’s) email inbox every weekend. What did I forget this week?

2024.05.11 15:50 aiandstuff1 Fusion guide based on Wixwell with lots of numbers

This is based on an average mid-game account that can complete Dungeon 20 but not 1-2 key UNM.
  1. Triple Dungeon Divers - 3,700 points for the rare food. The amount of points per stamina when running Dungeon 20 is about 0.75, which is 6,105 energy. However, I've personally seen a 0.68 average on a run (about 6,400 energy), so 0.75 isn't guaranteed and you should budget for a higher amount if RNG gives you a lot of low quality gear.
Dungeon Tournament - 2,250 points for the rare food. Running Dungeon 20 typically gets you 1 point per energy = 2,250 energy needed.
Double dipping Dungeon Tournament + Dungeon Divers allows you to get the dungeon tournament done for 'free', since you're doing both at the same time. That leaves only the dungeon divers cost of 6,105 energy.
6,105 * 3 = 18,315 energy total for all 6 events while double dipping. That gets you 6 pieces of rare food total.
Counting up the energy costs:
F2p accounts get appx 855 energy per day for free, minus energy needed to complete dailies. Dungeon events last 3 days and don't overlap. That gives you appx 2,565 daily energy for each dungeon divers event, minus energy needed to complete daily quests.
6,105 energy to complete dungeon divers - 2,565 daily stam = 3,540 energy * 3 = Appx 10,620 energy that isn't covered by daily energy.
Assuming you saved 60 days of free energy pots in your inbox, that's 30 pots * 130 energy = 3,900 energy. 10,620 - 3,900 = 6,720 energy remaining. You can save up to 99 days of free energy pots but fusions/shard events tend to happen much more often than every 99 days, so I used 60 as a more reasonable number.
The remaining appx. 6,720 energy can be obtained with 2080 gems worth of refills, clan shop points (up to 1,000 energy at some point during the event), or tag team bars (300 energy for 1000 bars). There are infrequent sources of energy and gems from Events, Tournaments, Doom Tower, Cursed City, daily logins, redemption codes, random freebies, etc. but you should not rely on them.
In bronze tag team, you get 8 points per win, or 24 points total per token spent. 20 tokens per day * 24 points = 480 points per day theoretical max. Realistically, you probably won't get 480 points per day even if you set up a throw defense to derank constantly. 320 points per day (winning 2 out of 3) is probably more realistic. 320 tag team bars per day would get you 8,960 tag bars per month, rounded up to 9,000. Tag team bars are valuable for completing events because you can save up 18,000-26,880 in 2 months and buy any combination of energy, ancient or void shard.
The clan shop varies in what it sells, but generally every other week you can buy 1,000 energy for 1000 clan shop tokens. You can also buy a void shard for 900 tokens. But remember you should generally be saving all your clan shop tokens for legendary skill books that cost 3,000 each, and try to get your energy or shards elsewhere.
You should bring more than 2k gems for dungeon divers to account for bad gear RNG. f2p accounts can get appx 1079 gems per month from dailies and gem mine lv 3, plus any extra gems earned from events/tournaments. This means f2p accounts need to save up gems for about 2 months between completable fusions or shard events. Gems can also be used to buy ancient shards in a pinch, if you need just a little bit more to finish a summon event and cover bad shard drop RNG from the clan boss. So you can never have enough gems.
How much silver is earned for completing triple dungeon divers and selling the artifacts/accessories: Assume that you complete Dragon, Ice Golem, and Fire Knight tournaments first at a cost of 2,250 energy, then switch to Spider 20 to finish the rest of the dungeon divers event, to maximize your silver.
Farming Dragon, Ice Golem, or Fire Knight 20 for silver = 11.3k clear + 30k artifact per run on avg / 16 energy = 2.58k silver per energy.
Farming Spider 20 for silver: 10k clear + 61.3k accessory per run on avg / 16 energy = 4.45k silver per energy.
Spending 2,250 energy on Dragon/Golem/FK 20 gets you 5,805,000 silver (2,250 energy * 2,580 silver).
Spending an additional 3,855 energy (6,105 - 2,250) to finish the remainder of dungeon divers on spider 20 gets you an additional 17,154,750 silver. (3,855 energy * 4,450 silver)
That results in a total 22.9m silver if you sell every artifact you get. 22.9 * 3 = 68.7m total. Subtract whatever gear you keep and don't sell. This silver can be used to complete triple artifact enhancement and cover the cost of XP brews in the tavern.
  1. Triple Artifact Enhancement Event: This artifact enhancement event section will not consider any type of exploit/bug.
The artifact event reward is usually at 4775 points. Getting a piece of gear from 0 to +16 is 418 points total. 4775 / 418 = 11.4 artifacts to get to +16. Each +16 costs 1.5-2m on average in my experience. I'll go with 1.75m. 11.4 * 1.75m = 19.95m silver total per event. 19.95m * 3 = 59.85m for all 3 events. If you completed all 3 dungeon divers and sold most of the artifacts, you should be covered on average. However, I recommend going in with 20-40m silver to cover bad RNG.
The cost for getting a relatively larger number of artifacts to +12 is roughly the same as getting a smaller number of artifacts to +16, on average. You can potentially avoid bad upgrade RNG by going for +12 instead of +16. Personally, I want to get artifacts to +16 so I can actually equip and use them on my champs, instead of having a bunch of +12 artifacts that won't be useful on endgame content. You can make your own choice here depending on what gear you have available.
If you're desperate and have hours to spend, you can upgrade any artifact to +4 to sell for a profit. This is extremely tedious but can work if you ran out of silver. This can also work if you are trying to get max speed or max c.dmg substat gear and want to try +4, +8, +12, etc. to see if it lands on the speed substat. But you probably don't have enough artifacts to do this with to complete all 3 events.
By completing triple dungeon tournament, triple dungeon divers, and triple artifact enhancement, you'll have 9 pieces of blue food or a number of shard fragments.
  1. Champion Chase Tournament - 3000 pts for the shard/food reward
Champion Chase Event (different from tournament) - Typically 2500 pts for the shard/food reward. Or 1150 pts and 2500 pts.
You are rewarded points for acquiring champions by any means possible. Higher rarity = more points. Void is worth more than red, blue, green (RGB).
Common/Uncommon champs are worth 1 point. RGB Rare champs are worth 10 points. RGB Epic champs are worth 250. RGB Legendary 500. RGB Mythic 1000. Void Rare 50, Void Epic 350, Void Legendary 650.
3a. Summon champs from shards. Green shards have a 1.4% chance of a rare. So opening 1,000 green shards will get you 14 rares on average, for a total of 1,126 points on average. 2000 green shards = 2,252 points on average. 3000 green shards = 3,378 pts on average.
Champ Chase usually coincides with an ancient shard 2x chance of epic and legendary champ event. 83% chance of a rare, 16% chance of epic, 1% chance of legendary. On average, opening 10 ancient shards during a double event will get you 8.3 rares, 1.6 epics, and 0.1 legendaries.
Ancient shard 10 pull during a 2x rate up event:
10 rare, 0 epic, 0 legendary = 100 points.
9 rare, 1 epic, 0 legendary = 340 points.
8 rare, 2 epic, 0 legendary = 580 points.
Void shards give higher values at 50 per rare, 350 for an epic, or 650 for a legendary. A void 10 pull will get you 9.15 rares, 0.8 epics, and 0.5 legendaries on average.
10 void rares = 500 points.
9 void rares + 1 void epic = 800 points.
Opening a sacred shard guarantees an epic for 250 points minimum.
3b. Summon champs using fragments. This is more one a one-time thing where you can save a shard summon for champion chase event. Huntress and Bloodhorn costs 1500 tag team bars and must be purchased over 10 24 hour cooldowns. As void rare champs, they are worth slightly more at 50 pts each. They can also be leveled and fused into the epic champ Broadmaw.
Note: I haven't actually tested if the Huntress and Bloodhorn shard summons are repeatable.
3c. Summon champs using fusions. The repeatable fusion champs are Justiciar, Relickeeper, Arbalester, Rockbeast, and Broadmaw.
Hold onto the uncommon champs used to fuse Arbalester and Rockbeast. All 8 uncommons can also be obtained in campaign stages. Each void rare fusion is worth 50 points each. Broadmaw is worth 350 pts as a void epic.
Champ Training double dipping: Level these champs using XP brews, or level them in the campaign to get XP, silver, green shards, junk gear, and additional champs. Farming lots of green shards means more champ chase points.
Justiciar and Relickeeper is less efficient than Arbalester and Rockbeast so you should focus on Broadmaw if possible. Relickeeper is fused with champs that are all obtained by farming campaign. Brutal campaign rare drop rate is 1%, so you can expect 100 runs on average per champ, or 800 energy. 7 champs * 800 energy = 5600 energy average to obtain the champs, plus the energy to farm the ascension pots and level and rank up the champs (several thousand energy). Hold onto the champs involved in this fusion if you get them from shards.
Warmaiden, Spiritkeeper, Heiress, Diabolist = Justiciar (50 pts) Executioner, Templar, and Sorceress are the other three rare champs needed for Relickeeper.
3d. Purchase champs at the market. This is highly inefficient but who knows? If you're in a real pinch and only have access to green shards, it could make the difference. If you're going to do this, only buy the cheapest champs that cost 6-10k silver.
3e. Farm them from campaign. Rares have a 1% drop rate in Brutal campaign, so you would have to run a campaign stage 100 times (800 energy) for a single 10 point rare on average. On the plus side, you'd probably get a bunch of green shards that would give you more a lot points than finding a single rare.
3f. Progress Missions. Very rare one time thing, such as saving your Arbiter for an event.
3g. Daily Login Rewards. Not something you can really time or predict without halting your account progress.
3h. Events or Tournaments. If you pick up a champ during an event, that will be worth points. This isn't something you can prepare for. If the event is a fusion, you could potentially get points for winning a piece of food from a separate event while Champ Chase is running.
  1. Champ Training Event - 6100 pts
To prepare for this event:
  1. Level up lots of food to 4-5 stars that is ready to be leveled and ranked up.
  2. Leave your 5-6 star champs at lv 1 if possible.
  3. Save all your XP brews from quests and try to get extra XP brews from events or tournaments.
The most efficient way to get Champ Training events done is by using XP brews. Energy is at a premium due to the high cost of dungeon divers, so XP brews are a good alternative. Each brew costs 7000 silver. If you use 700 brews, that's 700,000 silver. Completing 3x dungeon divers should cover the cost of XP brews.
Level a 1 star champ - 1 pt
Level a 2 star champ - 1 pt
Level a 3 star champ - 2 pts
Level a 4 star champ - 3 pts
Level a 5 star champ - 6 pts
Level a 6 star champ - 8 pts
Rank up a 1 star champ to 2 stars: 5 pts
Rank up a 2 star champ to 3 stars: 15 pts
Rank up a 3 star champ to 4 stars: 50 pts
Rank up a 4 star champ to 5 stars: 100 pts
Rank up a 5 star champ to 6 stars: 300 pts
Getting a 5 star champ to lv 18 by feeding them 3 XP brews and one 1 star food gets 102 pts (34 points per brew). Do this before feeding the 5 star food to a 5 star champ to rank them up to 6 stars.
Getting a 4 star champ to lv 9 by feeding them 1 XP brew gets 24 pts (24 points per brew). Do this before feeding them to a lv 40 4 star champ.
Getting a 6 star champ to lv 30 by feeding them 10 XP brews gets 232 pts. (23 points per brew).
The most direct way to complete the event is level up food to 5 stars using XP pots, and then promote your desired 5 star champs to 6 stars. This takes lots of XP pots and silver, but it can be done as long as you have enough green shards to keep summoning new food. Doing this is also a quick way to exchange XP brews and silver into a batch of new 6 star champions to develop your overall roster.
If you're opening a lot of green shards to complete Champ Chase, you can double dip by feeding the excess food to 4-5 star champs.
You can scrape together extra points by putting champs in the guardian ring.
  1. Summon Rush Event - 3500 pts for lesser reward (rare piece of food), 5600 pts for greater reward (epic piece of food)
Green shard = 0 pts. Blue shard = 20 pts. Purple shard = 120 pts. Red shard = 200 pts. Yellow shard = 500 pts.
Repeatable sources of shards, not including one-time or intermittent sources:
Blue shard:
Dungeon (0.5% drop rate)
Market (limit of 5 per 28 days, 200k silver each)
Shop gems (900 gems for 11)
Shop free (limit of 1 per 7 days)
Clan Boss (all chests)
Weekly quest
Tag team shop (1200 bars each)
Purple shard:
Clan Boss (Knight chest and above)
Monthly quest
Tag team shop (silver rank required)
Clan shop (900 clan tokens)
Doom Tower (Normal and Hard)
Red shard:
Live Arena (fragments)
Cursed City (fragments)
Yellow shard:
Monthly quest
Clan Boss (Transcendant and Ultimate chest only)
Doom Tower (Hard)
Assuming you're in a clan that beats hard, brutal, and NM CB every day, you can get 2x chests from all 3. This gets me appx. 40 ancient, 20 void, and 1 sacred a month from CB. This is enough for the 3500 pt minimum after 2 months of saving. It's not necessary to get the UNM Transcendant chest to complete fusion/shard events every 2 months as long as you are racking up blue and purple shards on 2x brutal and 2x NM chests.
Note that if you go for the epic food to skip dungeon divers, you still need lots of silver stockpiled for artifact enhancement event. Or if you skip artifact enhancement event, you still need lots of energy stockpiled to run dungeon divers. Make sure you have enough resources to cover the resource gains from whatever event you're skipping.
  1. Arena Event
This is the easiest event to complete. Set up a throw defense team and use your dozens of free arena tokens per day to get in some wins. Store some 99 day classic arena token refills in your inbox, which are obtainable from Cursed City.
  1. Spider Tournament
Spider tournament isn't attached to dungeon divers for the Wixwell fusion and requires an addition 2,250 energy. On the plus side, you can sell the accessories for extra millions of silver.
  1. Leveling up and ascending the fusion food.
Use XP brews and silver to level the food instead of energy, which is at a premium. Make sure you have enough ascension potions of the required affinities ahead of time. Check the potion keep schedules so that you don't miss anything.
  1. Adding up the totals:
Energy before the event: You'll need to dedicate thousands of energy to farm resources ahead of time before the event. This includes grinding batches of 4-5 star food lined up for Champ Training, farming shards for Champ Chase and Summon Rush, farming summons or fusions for Champ Chase, farming gear that is worth upgrading for Artifact Enhancement, completing events and tournaments to get extra gems and XP brews, and farming silver in case you want to skip Dungeon Divers and/or want insurance against bad gear upgrade RNG. 2 months is a reasonable timeframe to build your reserves back up after finishing a fusion.
Preparation is key, so even when the fusion ends, you need to be focusing on building up for the next one. Pretty much it's one big fusion/shard farming run, forever! Generally a 100% f2p mid-game account can expect to get a fusion/shard event done once every 60 days, depending on RNG and stockpiled reserves.
Energy during the event: Appx 20,565 energy during the event to complete 3x Dungeon Divers and 1x Spider Tournament. Add more energy as needed if you run out of XP brews / silver and need to spend energy leveling champs (this is bad, you should always use XP brews if possible). Add even more energy if you need to farm green/blue shards to complete Summon or Champ Chase events.
XP Pots: At least a few hundred to complete Champ Chase Tournament and then Champ Chase Event. XP Pots are easy to save up, thankfully. The more food you have ready to go before the event starts, the less XP brews you need.
Silver: Appx 60m silver to complete 3x artifact enhancement event by getting gear to +12 or +16. Most of this silver can be farmed by completing 3x dungeon divers. If you have a lot of free time, you can +4 lots of junk gear and sell it for a small profit while completing the event.
Champ chase: Appx 2750-3000 green shards per champ chase. Or a combination of green shards, fusion/shard summons of void rares such as Huntress and Bloodhorn, and other shards. Since there are two champ chase events here (one is a champ chase tournament, the other is a champ chase event), you should take the events seriously and prepare beforehand.
Summon Rush: Stockpile enough blue, purple, red, and/or yellow shards to equal at least 3500 pts for the minimum reward. Something like 55 ancient and 20 void works without needing any red or yellows. If you want the greater reward in order to skip other events, you need 5600 pts worth.

Tldr: The first two weeks of the Wormhole War appear to go exceptionally well for the SYNDE Coalition. There are also reasons for real concern. How concerned? It's complicated.
When I wrote the first chapter of this review, I tried to focus on what I knew to be true given the natural limitations of getting factual information during EVE conflicts. That initial post has proven very fruitful in terms of the people who have since reached out with correcting and clarifying information. In addition, there has been a veritable waterfall of recent leaks within the wormhole community both from SYNDE (pre-war discussions with HAWKS leadership leaked within their coalition) and from HK (internal SYNDE corp meetings and SYNDE coalition meetings leaked publicly).
Those sources must be carefully considered against other evidence like zKillboard (ty u/Squizz) and the invaluable Wormhole War spreadsheet maintained by u/lynkfox https://www.reddit.com/Eve/comments/1c1r66c/real_state_of_the_wormhole_wa
All that being said, I think it’s right to say that we have considerably more insight into the how and the why of the pre- and early-war periods of the past few months.
I will try to cite sources and BRs where I am able while at the same time respecting the wishes of those who have offered insight in confidence. In any case, this post offers updates to my first part, and then an exploration of the initial couple of weeks of this conflict that is still raging violently in Wormhole space.

Part 1 – Wormhole War: History and Prelude Update:

u/Loroseco (HK leadership) provided additional context to the initial post which has since been confirmed by Synde internal leaks (pre-war demands from Hawks leadership). On March 24, immediately prior to severing their long-standing alliance with HAWKS, SYNDE asked HAWKS leadership for a large number of C6 farms. It is clear from the conversation that SYNDE expected a stern HAWKS rejection that would provide them with a casus belli for the war they were set to launch. That stratagem did not go as planned. HAWKS agreed to the SYNDE demands, and SYNDE – likely unable to stop their pre-planned momentum and with a huge coalition awaiting the signal to launch their complicated, multi-pronged attack – dismissed HAWKS acceptance and ended the alliance anyway. HAWKS structures were attacked minutes later across C5 and C6 space by SYNDE and members of their expansive coalition (TURBO, HC, ATRAX, DISI, SUGAR, FFEW, EXIT).
While there has been considerable spin around the true nature of the SYNDE motivations for the war, it seems clear it boils down to SYNDE wanting to become the pre-eminent power in high class wormhole space and being willing to violate a number of strong wormhole taboos to make that possible.

Cry Havoc and Let Slip the Dogs of War: Lazerhawks Burning

On March 24, the war began in earnest when SYNDE’s carefully assembled wormhole coalition began reinforcing a large number of HAWKS farms in both C5 and C6 space. Once those shields were reinforced, most of the attacking groups returned to their respective staging systems and “rage rolled” for more HAWKS farms. It appears that most Coalition groups were staging from their home holes (most often with a C5 static), but the larger Coalition members had staged from a C6 wormhole with a C6 static, permitting them to rage roll for HAWKS C6 farms. The Synde Coalition called this staging hole “Waffles” and it would become a significant system as the war progressed.
For the non-wormholers, “rage rolling” is when a group “rolls” a wormhole’s static wormhole repeatedly, generating connections to new holes in order to access the hole or holes you are seeking. (Outside of war, rage rolling is a common activity for pvp corps to generate pvp content, including ganking, skirmishes and honor brawls.) By rage rolling, SYNDE Coalition members were able to reinforce a large number of HAWKS farms, return to staging, roll, and then reinforce another. Again, it is very difficult to know with any precision since there is no EVE output for reinforced citadels unless they are actually killed, but it appears that the SYNDE Coalition was reinforcing double digit farms daily, and would continue to do so throughout this initial phase of the War.
The first farm to fall happened three days later, as TURBO took a HAWKS C5 farm. https://br.evetools.org/related/31002099/202403271900
That began a steady deluge, as HAWKS lost farm after farm, appearing to offer little in the way of resistance. On April 1st, the Initiative openly added their strength to the offensive. They took their first HAWKS C6 on Apri 4th along with a smattering of coalition support. https://br.evetools.org/b66141ee6ddb48200112d7848
Through April 4th, or 10 days after the start of the war, HAWKS had lost 17 Astrahus’ and 13 Fortizars across nearly 20 high class farms now held by SYNDE and their coalition partners. SYNDE was well on their way to achieving their objectives.
SYNDE reached out to HAWKS leadership and offered surrender terms.

Given How This War is Going: The Ultimatum

As this has been leaked and confirmed by both parties to the War, I am offering the surrender terms verbatim:
Given how this war is going, this will be the only offer we give you:
Settle, transfer every single c6 remaining to SYNDE and we'll spare your home and give an appropriate number of c6s so you're not entirely without farms, make an agreement on no log off traps/rage rolling c6s/bashing farms
Or you can let it go to option 2:
Continue fighting, lose the rest of c6 space, and see the entire coalition in your home. It might take us a month but it's clear we can do it.
Let us know.
A similar ultimatum was issued by Philip II of Macedon to the Spartans in 338 BC. After laying waste to Athens and Thebes, Philip sent a messenger to Sparta with the following note: “If I capture your city, I will destroy you.” The Spartans responded in short order. It was a one word answer: “If”
HAWKS responded similarly, only with a more modern version: “Get fucked”
There would be no negotiation with a group that backstabbed HAWKS and lied repeatedly, and for months. Honor and reputation are too heavily prized in this corner of EVE. The Wormhole War would be decided in space, not on Discord.

HAWKS Undercurrents of Resistance

There were many signs pointing towards the ultimatum’s explicit argument that a SYNDE Coalition victory was inevitable. HAWKS farms were falling at a remarkable rate. SYNDE boasted a wormhole coalition numbering 2-3 times the size of HAWKS and their allies. SYNDE now had the active support of the Initiative, giving them a massive well of support from the lone nullbloc with extensive wormhole experience and expertise.
Despite this, there were some troubling signs for SYNDE and their partners, undercurrents of resistance that hinted that their offensive campaign was not as unstoppable as it might seem.

Hard Knocks Reborn

This view might earn me criticism, but over EVE’s history, the “MVP” of all current and prior Wormhole Corps is Hard Knocks. In their heyday, they excelled across a wide spectrum of EVE competencies – PVP, PVE and all the metagaming that EVE is famous for (diplo, spycraft, third-party technical, etc).
Hard Knocks had effectively not existed for years. The day before the war began, zkillboard indicated that Hard Knocks had 1 active member. Most of their members had won EVE, with others joining other wormhole or nullsec groups.
Within days of SYNDE launching the Wormhole War, much of Hard Knocks leadership had resubbed. The sudden rebirth of Hard Knocks was not viewed as a major problem by SYNDE leadership, who noted in a coalition meeting that the worst-case was a scenario where HK might be able to put 30-50 pilots on grid – not a particularly troubling number. This would prove to be an appalling misjudgment as HK leveraged their considerable institutional wormhole knowledge, experience, relationships and assets in support of HAWKS.

ATRAX Eviction: The First Home Hole Eviction of the War

Within days of the SYNDE offensive campaign kicking off, one of their coalition members – ATRAX – had their home hole besieged. It appears that while HAWKS was reeling from the initial onslaught, a small number of hardcore HK/SL0W/CUYS/Voidlings/BBERG pilots targeted ATRAX’ C5 home hole. That group held hole control from ATRAX for days, preventing them from getting many of their members who had been supporting the SYNDE offensive back to their home to actively defend it. In a clinical eviction effort, the ATRAX home hole fell on March 31st, a week after the war began. https://br.evetools.org/b660a0cfa4541b60012c1babc
At a practical level, this was crushing for ATRAX members. Whatever assets they had in their home hole were now forfeit, and many important toons were now stuck in that system in safelogged capitals. When a hole is being evicted, and defense is not possible, it is common practice in wormholes to put as much as you can inside a freighter-class ship or a capital ship and then safelog that ship. Recall that any ship in a person’s hangar will drop when that citadel is destroyed in a wormhole. This process of safelogging is much more challenging when your key toons are not in home at that time. The evictors are rumored to have looted a large number of ATRAX capitals from their destroyed citadel grids.
At a broader level, this was not a significant loss for SYNDE and their coalition. ATRAX was not one of the large groups in the SYNDE coalition – the major players are SYNDE, TURBO, HC and of course INIT. On top of that, ATRAX has proven quite resilient. Although a third of their members left ATRAX after the eviction, those who remained reset in Jita or elsewhere and continued to contribute earnestly to the SYNDE war effort.
This was likely a small blip on the SYNDE radar, and an acceptable loss to the coalition. They did not deviate from their focus on burning HAWKS farms, one after another.

HK Staging Defense: The First Brawl

As HK members continued to resub, they began assembling their group in a C6 wormhole with a C6 static, J115844. They were joined by Voidlings, a smaller wh pvp group that had been evicted by SYNDE and INIT prior to the start of the war. Voidlings was looking to regroup and had joined the HAWKS side in part to avenge their recent eviction.
It is likely that HK planned to use this C6 in the same way that SYNDE was using their C6 staging, as a good way to access the now-widely-contested C6 environment by rage rolling for targets C6 wormholes to attack or defend.
As HK was in the initial stages of getting J115844 set up as their main staging, SYNDE rolled in and reinforced their staging fortizar citadel. They returned days later to reinforce the armor timer. Still fragile at this early stage of the war, on April 4th HK sounded the alarm within the HAWKS-allied groups to please come help support their hull timer. Perhaps for the first time since the war began, HAWKS formed a heavy shield fleet, left their heavily fortified home hole and rushed to help defend the HK hole. HAWKS added 30 Nighthawks to the 30 Vultures that HK and Voidlings had on hand in that C6 staging.
With SYNDE rage rolling from their C6 staging seeking to connect to the HK hole, HK and HAWKS could only wait. With scouts in the SYNDE hole, they were well aware that SYNDE and TURBO had assembled a fleet in excess of 120 ships for that evening’s offensive actions.
With under an hour until the hull timer, SYNDE struck gold and rolled their C6 staging directly into the C6 HK staging. SYNDE immediately jumped Sabres through the HK hole and bubbled in order to prevent the HK/HAWKS fleet from rolling that hole. Both fleets began undocking, with the SYNDE/TURBO heavy armor fleet warping one by one to the hole as they undocked from their staging fortizar. HK/HAWKS instead warped their entire defense fleet to a tactical ping well off the hole given the bubbles blanketing it on their side. As part of the SYNDE fleet led by alliance leads Cyrus Kurush and Mark Resurrectus began jumping the hole, the HK FC Viktor Pvolman noticed that the bubble on the hole had expired, and he made the decision to suicide a rolling capital into the hole.
For the non-wormholers, when fleets in two systems are going to engage, the primary limiting factor is the mass limit of the connecting wormhole. In this case, it was a W237 wormhole, one that connects two C6 holes. That hole can accommodate 3.3b of ship mass (with a range of plus or minus 10%). This means that a fresh, unmassed hole could permit roughly 33 Megathron Navy Issues through it before it collapsed. A rolling carrier by itself is between 1-2B in mass depending on several factors, so if HK could get a rolling carrier through that hole, it would significantly limit the SYNDE/TURBO ability to send in their full fleet – one that was almost certainly a 3.3b fleet, as most wormhole groups carefully plan their combat fleets based on the mass of hole they plan to travel through.
The HK FC likely judged that his HK/HAWKS fleet would lose to the larger SYNDE fleet – which would then mean losing hole control, and subsequently the HK staging with its fort hull timer fast approaching. An HK pilot warped his rolling carrier to the hole just before a new bubble went up, permitting him to land right on the hole as the SYNDE/TURBO fleet continued flooding in. The carrier jumped, putting over 1B of mass on the connecting wormhole. What follows was a comedic series of events. Despite a heavy armor fleet landing all around it, that carrier was able to warp off the hole to a nearby combat site, landing at range. In the confusion, two rather expensive ships warped after the fleeing carrier directly to that combat site – where they promptly died to rats. https://kb.evetools.org/kill/116748195/ https://kb.evetools.org/kill/116748204/
The carrier pilot was informed that the wormhole remain unbubbled, so while the SYNDE ships were dying he aligned his carrier away from the combat site and back to the hole. He warped there into the middle of a number of SYNDE and TURBO ships, jumping immediately on landing and destroying that wormhole connection – leaving several SYNDE/TURBO ships unable to join the rest of the fleet in the HK staging brawl.
The carrier was promptly dispatched with violence by the SYNDE heavy armor fleet on the other side of the now-gone hole. https://kb.evetools.org/kill/116748176/
That would be the high point for SYNDE/TURBO, as the fight between the two fleets in the HK hole quickly turned into a rout. The short-range heavy armor fleet brought by SYNDE FC and Coalition lead Cyrus Kurush was unable to apply at all to the Nighthawks and Vultures who maintained range control throughout. Including the loss of the carrier, the HAWKS side lost 8b while the SYNDE side lost 65b. HK retained hole control, and their staging repaired. https://br.evetools.org/b663ea2bbf68f7000119e6a92
It appears that many errors in planning and execution led to this outcome, but in the grand scheme of things, it seemed a minor almost irrelevant setback for SYNDE. They continued to burn HAWKS farms with abandon, untroubled by a “resurgent” HK that could only put 27 ships on grid to defend their staging.

Espionage and SYNDE State of the Coalition: April 7th

This SYNDE coalition meeting exactly two weeks into the Wormhole War marks a critical turning point in the broader campaign for two primary reasons: One, it likely marks the high point of SYNDE achievement and optimism, and two, the fact that I know about it at all is (or at least should be) a massive cause for long-term concern by the SYNDE coalition.
Spycraft and espionage are often important and impactful elements of major EVE events and wars, and the Wormhole War is no exception.
It has been shared with me that one contributing reason for the early successes of SYNDE coalition is that they had an effective spy who was well integrated into HAWKS. That spy had been sharing pings, fleet movements and farm defense plans with SYNDE leadership on a minute by minute basis. That permitted SYNDE to alert coalition allies anytime HAWKS quick response fleets that were trying to save farms were en route, giving SYNDE allies the ability to roll holes or disengage as appropriate. The existence of this spy has been confirmed to me by both sides – as was their discovery by HAWKS around this time when SYNDE’s sun was ascendant. It is unknown if SYNDE still has spies well placed in HAWKS or HK, but it is undeniable that this time period is a major inflection point in the Wormhole War.
As mentioned earlier, HK has a well-earned reputation for exceptionalism across a wide range of essential EVE skillsets, including espionage. As HK worked back into form, so too did that element. The past week or so has seen a flood of high level leaks of internal SYNDE coalition, corp and leadership comm recordings by members of HK’s leadership. Some have found their way to Reddit, most are being shared across a wide range of wormhole community channels. In fairness, I do not know if they are the result of HK espionage or coming from other members supporting HAWKS – but it is HK who is driving the leaks, so I can only really attribute them to their work. I would be happy to be corrected on this point should additional information emerge. A complete audio file of this coalition meeting is now freely available, and I’m sure someone will link it in the comments if it’s of interest.
In this April 7th coalition meeting, SYNDE lead Cyrus Kurush declared that the coalition is well on the way to their goal of removing HAWKS from C6 space. He openly discussed evicting Hawks from their home, and acknowledged the strength of the SYNDE Coalition’s Nullsec support.
He indicated that while a HAWKS home eviction had been considered, the coalition’s full weight would remain on destroying and taking HAWKS farms. It appears his rationale was an asset denial one. Cyrus Kurush argued that this was a war for resources, and that without farms, HAWKS would not be able to access the resources needed to sustain war.
He also explicitly acknowledged a key development in the War. In the first week of the war, HAWKS transferred “16-17 C6s” to NOVAC, one of the two large high class wh pvp groups (along with LUPUS) that had remained neutral thus far. In response, SYNDE informed NOVAC that they would need to pick a side soon and that SYNDE viewed those farms as part of the broader set of HAWKS C6 farms that were to be redistributed in their new Wormhole order. Unsurprisingly, this would soon have a significant impact on NOVAC’s outlook – though likely not the change that SYNDE had hoped for.
When asked about the recent fleet feed in HK’s staging, Cyrus Kurush declared that the coalition was adopting a Goon Nullsec mentality to fights: helldunk or blueballs. He feared that lost fights would enhance HAWKS morale and bolster their allies, so going forward coalition members were only to take fight where they “can absolutely destroy” HAWKS fleets.
Ironically, when he was asked about the covert side of the war, Cyrus Kurush claimed that whatever HAWKS and HK has in terms of spies and information, SYNDE has the same or better. I say irony because, again, I am only privy to this knowledge because of a recent HK leak.
Cyrus Kurush then stated that their cause was attracting more wormhole groups, sharing in confidence that Chiffas – a wormhole pvp group that often punches above their weight – was joining the SYNDE Coalition.
The very next day, Chiffas absolutely demolished a TURBO fleet. https://br.evetools.org/related/31002076/202404081900
They would not be joining the SYNDE Coalition after all.

The Nullsec Effect: Initiative and Goons Mobilizing

Perhaps the most impactful early-war development was the increasingly widespread awareness throughout the wormhole community about the close alliance between SYNDE and INIT. By this stage, INIT had been taking high class farms directly and now owned several other farms they had previously been renting from SYNDE – both C5s and C6s.
Spurred on by the chaos in high class wormhole space and the invitation by SYNDE to take their own slice of the spice fields, INIT and GOONS formed dedicated “wormhole eviction” SIGs – openly pinging out for member interest in their primary coalition comms channels. INIT and GOONS looked forwards to an environment where they could own their own spice fields instead of renting. That mobilization effort continues.
These developments sent shock waves through the wormhole community, shock waves which continue to reverberate to this day.
It is one thing to batphone a friendly nullbloc if you need help in a difficult situation – defending one’s home is generally viewed as a good reason to batphone anyone and everyone, for instance. Openly allying with a nullbloc in order to achieve objectives in wormhole space has been almost universally scorned by the wormhole community. As any wormhole history nerd could likely confirm, this has generally been viewed as clear casus belli for eviction, and one that is likely to rally widespread wormhole support. You can’t be a wormhole cartel that is allied with a kspace super power – it runs against the natural order of things.
Recent leaks have shown that as far back as Summer 2023, nine months before they ended their alliance with HAWKS, SYNDE leadership was negotiating with INIT about a potential eviction of HAWKS home.
SYNDE was betting that a desire for more and better farms would ensure continued allegiance by wormhole coalition partners despite this rather egregious and open violation of wormhole norms.
More to follow as we explore the two most important strategic developments in the war thus far – the eviction of Sugar, and the eviction of the SYNDE coalition staging. Those two events would cost the SYNDE coalition hundreds of members and well over 1t in assets. They would also be the first time in the war that a 300 pilot Init fleet arrived on grid…on a day when hundreds of billions would be destroyed.
