2024.05.10 11:58 TheDarkWarriorBlake Thoughts after binging the show for the first time

I knew pretty much nothing about this show but I'd seen images of what I now know is Lesley often associated with it and as I was looking for something to watch I caught a marathon on ITV and decided to finish up the series.
It's 50% a decent show.
Some of the characters grate, Mick's jokes often aren't funny and are constant and it gets irritating sometimes but early on it is reflective of a holiday and a real family. The Garveys aren't perfect but they're realistic and generally likable. Mateo is a villain and that's probably how he should be. The only kind of duff early storyline is Kate/Martin because Kate is just so thoroughly unlikable and Martin so unfathomably dim but she takes it out on him just for trying when she won't make any effort and sleeps with Mateo. Geoff and Noreen are also a good pairing and I think the writers betrayed the character with later season developments I'll mention later.
Mel is, for me, kind of like Danny DeVito in season 2 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The rich guy who comes in and can fund some of the greater adventures, so we get Mel's scooters and the Benidorm palace. Mel really raises the Garvey storylines up and makes Madge more likable as well and his legacy is big enough that it's still going into like season 7. Unfortunately for the series, some of it's best characters, such as Mel and Donald, die too soon and while they did a really good job of following up Mel's death, as sad as it is that we had to lose the Benidorm palace storyline, but they never recover from losing Donald and the Garveys leaving. Thhey have the most relatable storylines, all the way through to Michael growing and having that foreign love on the last day that you'll probably never see again.
IMO, it all starts going downhill from around season 5 when it starts losing the relatability and introduces characitures like Kenneth and Liam. Don't get me wrong Kenneth can be funny but he's also rude, selfish, lazy, and often mean and it doesn't really make sense that people are friends with him, and Liam's introduction is his unbearable stalkerish obsession with Natalie (I also cannot believe this guy bagged Cyd in real life). And both these characters stick around for the next 6 seasons repeating the same storyline over and over with the Blow and Go either not serving customers or changing hands and still not serving customers. They run that into the ground and then keep on going. Plus it introduces a beauty salon mafioso uncle for him further removing the relatability of going on holiday to Benidorm and the adventures and drama you'd experience.
Les I like, because the actor plays him/her very earnestly, he's honest and genuine when he first meets Geoff, but in later seasons that's it, he's just Les/Lesley and they never really do much with him/her after the first season he's working at the Solana.
The Dykes are OK though it was probably impossible to write a realistic reason for them to ever return outside of Tyger, and through Tyger his dad, so we lose Tonya and the daughter (I don't know if Hannah Waddingham was written out or refused to return because of the apparent sexual harassment she suffered on set). They are an interesting family unit together but separately Tyger just really isn't an interesting character.
It really goes downhill following the introduction of Joyce and the exit of the Garveys. The Dawsons are very weak replacements and all equally unlikable. The wife is portrayed as a nag bordering on a Karen, she generally just looks miserable, the son is a pretty boy who eats up a HUGE amount of time with that abysmal Cyd storyline, just lucking into a billionaire gorgeous South American. The Garveys inheriting a bunch of money via Mel is a decent send off for them, for it to happen twice in the same resort is just lazy writing and the family is awful and doesn't deserve that. The husband is a damp squib, the grandad is a one note character who just says the worst thing possible every time or is otherwise gross and rude, and they write the daughter out after like 2 episodes.
Worst of all though is the grandmother. She seems like an attempt to recreate Madge but Madge's often vile opinions and racist comments are so over the top that it slips into cartoonish and on top of the cigarette smoking even when choking, the mobile scooter use out of laziness, and the ridiculous tan, you don't take her seriously. The Dawson grandmother on the other hand is just mean and it comes across as mean. It doesn't help that the actress, in the last offensive way possible, looks like her character's inner self comes across. It comes across as bitter and mean and she's just unlikable.
Once Joyce enters the picture and the Garveys are gone, the show seems to lean far heavier on becoming a workplace comedy than a holiday-maker one. They spend so much time on the inner workings of the hotel, trying to explain how the 3 regular cast we see somehow run the whole hotel and Crystal budget cutting or whatever and maybe watching it over two weeks made me forget the earlier seasons but I don't recall it being like that at all and it becomes overwhelming. The last season especially is all about entertainment acts and the hotel being sold and blah, blah, blah. Gone are the Gavin/Troys, Donald/Jacquelines and all those interactions between holiday makers. I don't think the Dawsons ever really talk to anyone else ever apart from the staff and I think the writer just couldn't let certain characters go, so we end up with a one off con man coincidentally ending up Joyce's husband.
Joey surviving one season just kinda shows how far it'd fallen tbh, what an annoying character. Someone that dim wouldn't be permitted to travel without a carer and he spends most of the last season just having sex with Sam, so his friend just hovers around. I don't think any holiday makers interact anymore by this point. Mateo has just become an aging, kind of pathetic lothario and Kenneth/Liam dominate a huge amount of screentime in most episodes.
I think what annoyed me the most as the seasons go on is the writer's refusal to give characters a happy ending or being outright cruel to them. At first I respected it, once people leave the resort we don't get to know what happens to them, that's just how it is. However, what is the purpose in letting Kate think she is pregnant in one episode and then revealing it's a mistake in the Summer special? It's a cliffhanger sure but what narrative purpose did that serve beyond giving them hope just to take it away? Then you bring Martin back alone, have him call on Kate, and she's seeing someone else, and that's where we leave those characters until Martin's brief, sad return in a later season. So why bring Kate back at all?
Geoff and Ionella, I think should've gotten together by the end. Yeah it's a bit funny that she comes to the airport just to say no, but by this point Geoff has matured a lot. He got into a serious relationship and had a child, took the serious approach to helping his sister, accepted he was adopted, and was honest with Ionella. I think the character got a lot of development and it would've been cathartic to send him off into the sunset with Ionella since he can give her the kids she wants if not the money. Maybe there are behind the scenes reasons like they didn't know Vegas would never return after that point but just give them a happy ending.
Gavin and Troy who seem to make a really good pair and connect over Troy's long lost son just break up off screen, Troy buys hte salon and turns up for a season then sells it.
Janey and Jason getting high paying jobs at a 5 star hotel by stealing Joyce's Solana job and intercepting her mail and never facing any consequences for that? Like that's straight up evil and they never get mentioned again or punsihed for it and Jason conned Ionella as well.
There's also the weird age gap relationships like Geoff and Telle (she looks 12) or Martin and the Dykes' daughter.
And the series ends with Les on the run or in prison. Don't do cliffhangers in your casual comedy. I was basically waiting for it to end during season 10, it's just really bad.
TLDR, the Dawsons suck and ruin most of the last seasons alongside the overemphasis on Kenneth, making Mateo a bumbling comedy relief character, and the personal lives of the Solana staff, I recommend stopping as soon as the Garvey's fly off to Vegas, they and their relationship with Mel is the best part of those early seasons and it gets a satisfying conclusion, leave it there before it becomes a workplace sitcom.
No offense intended to anyone who likes those late seasons btw, this is just my opinion having watched this in it's entirety over the last 2 weeks. Sorry if I got anything wrong as well, I wasn't taking notes while watching.

2024.05.10 05:30 savvannahgrrace Predictions for season 33

You guys can add on to this list if you want but here’s a general idea of who we are probably going to see
• Someone from Bachelor nation- I wish dwts would take a break from the bachelor(ette) franchise and maybe even cast someone from a different romance reality tv show, but because they both run through abc, I fully expect to see a contestant from there. Because we just had two girls, my guess is probably Joey or Gerry (or possibly a “fan-favorite” from Jenn’s upcoming season). If we get a girl, my guesses are probably Maria, daisy, or Kelsey a • An Olympian- the Olympics are this year, and they happen right before DWTS airs, so they will probably get an Olympian, don’t know for what sport, probably an ice skater or female gymnast, but I’m hoping they get someone for a different sport • A singer- they usually have a musician of some sort, so I expect to see someone in the music industry join, could see someone like Jesse mccartney since he did masked singer and Deena Katz casts for that show too I think • an “older” actoactress- ive noticed they have been casted older actors/actresses that are kinda known for one or two major roles (Melora, Mira, Barry, Martin kove, Kate flannery, etc.) so I’d expect they would be casting an older contestant, someone like Jennifer love Hewitt maybe • Reality contestant- whether it’s a housewives person, bravo person, they are bound to be cast. I’d also add a dance moms girl because they just had their reunion special in may, hoping Chloe Lukasiak gets cast, or maybe even a mom, like Christi or Kelly • controversial contestant- I wish we wouldn’t cast anybody controversial so I don’t have to get a headache when they are on my screen, but unfortunately, someone like that is gonna be cast. I’m unsure if a person in politics would get cast since it’s an election year, but I wouldn’t throw that idea away since Sean spicer was on in 2020. I know Gypsy rose has been asked and declined, but she’s chilling in Hollywood right now, so maybe she might change her mind • Social media influencestar- with Rylee’s success on social media and social media recent success in general, we will probably have social media stars on for quite a while. I’d say Alix Earle or Livvy dunne, but I could see maybe a YouTuber as well, may pay just retired, so he could be a possibility. Maybe a sturnilio brother? • NFl/NBA/MLB player (retired)- we usually get someone from one of those leagues, so I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw an athlete on, I don’t know who’s retired that wouldn’t be considered too big, Jason kelce is probably too big, considering the swiftie army, idk if he would do it and I might be biased because I’m a saints fan, but drew brees, he’s not too big because he’s been retired for a few years, but he has a great track record

2024.05.07 17:01 jaztinax I Ranked Every Glee Song: Part 6

Hi friends! I've made the slightly unhinged decision of sharing my ranking of all (well, close to all) the songs that were featured on Glee. This is part 6 out of... probably like, 50. Because Glee has a lot of songs. A LOT.
4 years ago, I also hosted a very extensive ranking where the sub got to participate in ranking the entire Glee soundtrack, and you can see the results here! Let me know if you guys want a redo of this, and I'll find a less consuming way to make this happen, because that ish was HARD.
If you coincidentally also have ranked all of the Glee songs, you are more than welcome to join and reveal your rankings as well!! Or share your opinions, everything is welcome :)
Just a quick reminder of what I've had in mind while ranking these so you guys understand more: I scored them based on vocal performance, context of the show, how it compared to the original song and how much I liked the actual production/arrangement of the Glee version. So a song could be really good, but if it was used in a bad or cringy scene, it'll affect the score negatively or the other way around!
We are still in the good tier, which are songs that I think are good, but not great. They've made it just within my range of songs that I'm okay with.

GOOD TIER

605. The Rain In Spain

Performed by Blaine Anderson, Finn Hudson, Mike Chang and Noah Puckerman.
This song is so random and I don't know who even came up with the thought of having this on the show, but it's not bad. Not going to lie, I wish I ranked this lower but I can't go back now, lmao.
Score: 58,2/100

604. My Sharona

Performed by The Warblers, with Skylar as lead.
Well, I don’t have a comment about this one now because I thought this was done by VA this whole time.
Score: 58,25/100

603. Jingle Bell Rock

Performed by Sam Evans.
This is a cute little Christmas song, I have this on my Christmas rotation sometimes. I don't have much to say about the scene, but I did enjoy this episode as a whole.
Score: 58,3/100

602. Kiss

Performed by Holly Holiday and Will Schuester.
I used to like this song a lot more back in the day, I remember listening to this all the time. I have since listened to the original just as much, maybe even more, and revisiting this song after being familiar with Prince singing it, it just becomes so glaringly obvious that their voices sound so strained and unnatural here. I do like this ship, and it's a good song. Their chemistry during this scene was amazing!
Score: 58,33/100

601. Don't Sleep In The Subway

Performed by Artie Abrams and Rachel Berry.
Artchel getting one-on-one time and a duet was something I never, ever saw coming. I feel like the only other time they've gotten a scene together was when she asked for his help with Run Joey Run. I think it was really refreshing to see them together. The song is alright though, it rates higher for context in my opinion.
Score: 58,33/100

600. Nowadays / Hot Honey Rags

Performed by Holly Holiday and Rachel Berry.
A very fun performance, although I don't listen to this song a whole lot. I love that the way to resolve things with Rachel is to just sing a duet with her.
Score: 58,4/100

599. Wake Me Up

Performed by Rachel Berry.
Even though I very much prefer the original and never listen to this version, I do like this song choice for the storyline. It does a good job at conveying Rachel's feelings about being on Funny Girl but feeling like, "is this what I really want to be doing forever?". I wasn't a huge fan of this storyline, but it makes sense for someone as ambitious as Rachel to want something more. Getting to do your dream role as such a young age with so much life to live still and career achievements to gain, it doesn't need to be over just because you have the one thing you always wanted right now.
Score: 58,5/100

598. Raise Your Glass (Season 5)

Performed by New Directions, with April Rhodes and Will Schuester as leads.
I just know the Warblers fans who voted for this song to be featured on this episode was so mad when the show gave it to April and Will and I love the thought of that. If I were to assign this to someone else than Blaine, I'd give it to Marley and Unique or Sam, Tina and Artie. It makes the most sense for the latter to do it considering they were present for the Warblers performance of it. There are so many great moments in this scene though, like Blaine recreating a little moment from his Warblers performance, Kurt trying to take away April's flask, Unholy Trinity moment and everyone just being super unhinged. I would've liked it better if someone else was singing it, though.
Score: 58,75/100

597. Rehab

Performed by Vocal Adrenaline.
I like this introduction for Vocal Adrenaline. It set a good example of the prime show choir rival, and you just know that New Directions is never going to be that. Or do you? It is the pilot after all, we don't know where this will go. They obviously never end up reaching the level of VA; although Paradise By The Dashboard Light came pretty close to that.
Score: 58,8/100

596. Somebody Loves You

Performed by Blaine Anderson and Kurt Hummel.
This song being on Glee was so huge for me at the time, because I felt like Betty Who was just a niche artist who had a specific following, and I was so excited when I heard they were doing this song! Less excited when I found out Klaine was doing it (was hoping for a more group number type of thing), but they did a good job nonetheless.
Score: 59/100

595. The Living Years

Performed by The Hipsters.
Out of all the unhinged things Glee has done, the most forgotten one has to be a show choir consisting of senior citizens competing in a high school show choir competition. They kind of slayed though.
Score: 59,1/100

594. Get Back

Performed by Kurt Hummel and Rachel Berry.
I wasn't familiar with this song when they first did this on Glee, but I've since listened to the original and its accompanying album a lot since, and that's also made me appreciate this more. A really unexpected song choice for Hummelberry, but it works!
Score: 59,25/100

593. There's A Light (Over At The Frankenstein Place)

Performed by New Directions, with Finn Hudson, Kurt Hummel and Rachel Berry as leads.
Out of all the Rocky Horror songs, this one is my least favorite, but they all sound great in it.
Score: 59,3/100

592. Do Ya Think I'm Sexy

Performed by The Warblers, with Blaine Anderson as lead.
Does anyone know the story behind the choice of songs for these Warblers songs that was released, but was not on the show? Because they're so random, I swear.
Score: 59,33/100

591. Planet, Schmanet, Janet

Performed by Carl Howell.
I honestly did not know this song existed until this year, but I understand why they chose Whatever Happened to Saturday Night over this. They're not that different to be honest, but he definitely has more charisma in the other one.
Score: 59,4/100

590. Science Fiction Double Feature

Performed by Santana Lopez.
Santana being the lips is so iconic. Her voice is so interesting here! She has such a different tone and plays around with it a lot. I don't think she ever did something similar again.
Score: 59,45/100

589. More Than Words

Performed by New Directions, with Brittany Pierce and Sam Evans as leads.
I used to think this song was really boring, but I have since appreciated this a lot more. I think it does feature Brittany's weaknesses in her vocals though, but it's still a very sweet duet.
Score: 59,5/100

588. You're My Best Friend

Performed by Blaine Anderson (and ND as puppets?).
This whole episode made no sense, and we truly did not need such a Blaine-centric episode at this stage of the show. So, the song and the vocal performance here are pulling the weight here.
Score: 59,55/100

587. Dance The Night Away

Performed by Vocal Adrenaline, with Clint as lead.
I feel like this is the 10th time I've written about a Clint song so this has to be the last one, which means this is my favorite one out of all of them.
Score: 59,6/100

586. Rise

Performed by New Directions and the Warblers, with too many leads for me to bother to list.
Although not as nostalgic or effective as others in the same category, this song works really well for a originally written competition song. It has all the elements that make it good, and I think if it was used in season 2 or 3, it would've definitely been a bigger hit among the Glee fandom.
Score: 59,67/100

585. You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch

Performed by k.d. lang and Will Schuester.
This must be the only time they've had a guest singer that only did a song, but wasn't a guest actor on the show? Which is wild and so random. Love the way this song was used on the show, though.
Score: 59,7/100
That's it for this part! Did you see any songs that you would've ranked higher (or lower)?

2024.05.06 21:48 94books My personal conspiracy theory...

Okay so this is going to be long, but I just finished my first rewatch in years and I can't stop thinking about this so I just want to put it all down on paper. I know the writers and Kevin Williamson always intended for Joey/Dawson to be end game up until the very last second when Joshua Jackson convinced Kevin it had to be Joey/Pacey in the finale, but based on the writing, casting, character development, etc. part of me just doesn't buy this.
While logically, I highly doubt the cast and crew could have kept it under wraps for 20 years, my personal conspiracy theory that I like to believe is that Kevin (and the later writers) always intended for the show to break the mold and end with the plot twist of the sidekick getting the girl in the end.
What a genius marketing tactic to keep people totally obsessed with J/P when we're being told they were never meant to be together but just had this intense chemistry that simply couldn't be denied. It's just so freaking romantic and honestly it's foreshadowed from the first few episodes!
Again, I know this isn't they way it went down, but here's my evidence for my conspiracy theory just for fun:
Casting: While James Van Der Beek and Joshua Jackson are both fantastic actors, JJ just screams leading man compared to JVDB. Not to be shallow, but he's taller, better looking (IMO), and far more charismatic. Obviously this is subjective, but it seems like an odd choice if Pacey was only ever meant to be the sidekick.
Also, I've always thought they gave Pacey that horrendous haircut in season 1 to kind of tone down his looks compared to Dawson at the start. His dreamyness sort of creeps up on you.
Character Backstory: Pacey is written as the underdog you want to root for while Dawson is written as this sheltered idealist in need of a major reality check from the very start. Pacey can relate to Joey and empathize with her in a way that Dawson just can't. This has nothing to do with the chemistry between the actors, but the actual choices made in the writing from the start of S1.
Kevin Williamson: As we know, DC is loosely based on Kevin's life and Dawson is based on Kevin himself. Seeing as Kevin is gay IRL, he wouldn't have the same obsession with J/D ending up together as Dawson does in the show. Breaking away from the traditional script and creating an ending where the hero gets his dream but not the girl and the sidekick gets the epic romance is creative and unexpected ending for him to have written / pitched!
Putting aside the chemistry (or lack thereof) between the actors there is soo much evidence and foreshadowing for J/P to be the real love story in the way the show is written from the very first episodes. The thought that the writers always meant J/D to be endgame makes no sense to me based on the plot points and character development.
If you're still with me, here's my evidence from the writing in the first 3 seasons for my little conspiracy theory on how this was always the plan long before the writers supposedly put J/P together on a whim for ratings based on their chemistry:
Season 1:
If "I cannot and will not kiss that cretin" in 1x2 isn't obvious foreshadowing of future kissing, I don't know what is. Pacey and Joey's constant bickering is the classic elementary "boys are mean to the girls they like". I think Pacey has always had a crush on Joey even if the feelings weren't returned at the time (this is alluded to by Aunt Gwen in season 3 telling the story of Pacey chasing Joey around as little kids). He's the first to notice her and isn't shy about pointing out how great she is even when they supposedly don't like each other.
In 1x8 while Dawson is having all sorts of Jen drama, Pacey can see how hurt Joey is and brings her to a party to have some fun and get her mind off of things. He looks out for her, punches out that awful creepy dude who prays on her, and is visibility upset when Dawson gets the credit for rescuing her. I can see him being annoyed even if he wasn't into her, but it feels like more than that. He also calls Dawson out at that point for not noticing this amazing girl who is in love with him.
As soon as Pacey sees some potential for them in the frog lab project in 1x10, he tells Dawson about his feelings right away and tries to kiss Joey. I think there is much more build up to this for Pacey than just going for it after spending one fun day together. I remember on my first watch this episode made me see Pacey in a new light and start really hoping those two would get together at some point. I think a lot of people feel the same way which is odd when we're meant to be shipping J/D at this point... right?
In 1x13, the season finale, when Joey has to visit her father, Dawson goes with her and says really wonderful things about her to her father which we have to admire. That said, he's her lifelong BEST friend. It's what's expected of him. Anything less would have been unacceptable. Meanwhile, Pacey who supposedly doesn't even really like Joey, has this great heart-to-heart moment with her and then drives her all the way there after dark when she realizes she has to go back. Unlike Dawson who just sort of shrugs and says “okay we'll come back later” when they're told visiting hours are over, Pacey won't take no for an answer. We see a glimpse of his willingness to move heaven and earth for Joey to get what she needs.
Finally, the whole season Dawson is portrayed as kind of asexual with hang ups around sex and virginity. He doesn't notice the stunning girl who sleeps in his bed with him and can't deal with Jen's sexual past. He has multiple outbursts about how he doesn't understand why everyone is so obsessed with sex. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't exactly make for heartthrob material.
Meanwhile, Pacey is shown as the guy who thinks he's a loser who never gets the girl - he literally says “I’m not the guy who gets the girl" at the start - when in reality.. he's a total catch who seems to always get the girl! He not only gets the sexy teacher twice his age into bed, but she actually falls in love with him! Throughout the show, he get's basically every girl he goes for even though he never thinks he will. Even Kristy Livingstone has a moment with him in season 2 at the dance and gives him her number in the series finale when he's so far past his crush he doesn’t even recognize her anymore.
The Tamara storyline is completely gross and disturbing, but it shows him as a guy women desire as opposed to Dawson who is always the "safe" choice. Joey even makes that comment about Pacey's “throbbing neck muscles” on his sex tape with Tamara when she doesn't know it's him.
Season 2:
If the writers had put Pacey and Joey together too soon, when Joey is supposed to be in love with Dawson and Pacey is still kind of portrayed as a horny punk, it never would have worked for the audience. First, they have to go through some major character arcs before we can get the amazing slow burn that is season 3.
As for Joey, she finally gets what she thought she always wanted (Dawson), but it’s clear almost immediately that it isn’t everything she’d dreamed it would be and she seems kind of let down by the whole thing. After only a few months she realizes she wants more, she just can’t imagine what that could be when Dawson has always been her everything, so she breaks it off and goes looking. Maybe it’s Paris, maybe it’s her art, maybe it’s Jack… but she’s never fully satisfied. What she’s looking for is the passion, freedom to grow, and romance she’ll eventually have with Pacey!
As for Pacey, he goes through a major transformation in season 2 that makes us totally fall for him. He goes from an immature horny kid to a respectful, caring, man who loves Andi so deeply and selflessly. We see him caring for her, caring for her mother, standing up for Jack when no one else does… He totally steals our hearts setting the stage perfectly for us to want nothing but the best for him above pretty much anyone else on the show.
Meanwhile, I can’t actually really remember what Dawson was up to in season 2 lol.
Season 3:
From the first episode of this season, the writers have Dawson shut down the possibility of him and Joey and throw her and Pacey together. The slow burn is amazing but also expected and anticipated from the start in my opinion. After shutting down J/D they break Pacey and Andi up right away, leading us to believe getting them together was the plan from the start of the season at least.
The whole season shows J/P falling for each other in a way that we’re only told J/D love each other.
Finally, if they didn’t intend for J/P to be endgame, I have no idea what they were thinking when wrote the differing reactions Pacey and Dawson have to the love triangle drama. Pacey makes it clear that he loves her and that ofc he wants her to choose him, but he wants her to be happy and it’s ultimately her choice and he understands. Dawson on the other hand gives her an ultimatum and essentially holds her hostage. All else aside, this made Pacey the clear choice.
Throughout the show, Pacey consistently brings out the best in Joey while Dawson brings out the worst in her. With Pacey, she grows so much. She’s fun and happy and lighthearted and confident (even in little moments between them in the dumpster fire that was season 5 she’s just better around him). With Dawson, she’s overly analytical, insecure, and serious. Every time they try to get together, one of them finds a way to sabotage things immediately. They seem to love the idea of loving each other when, in reality, there’s no love between them beyond the closeness of lifelong best friends.
Aside from Katie’s clear chemistry with Josh and lack of chemistry with James, to me, it seems like the show was written from the start to have Pacey and Joey together by the end even before that chemistry was apparent. The writers did everything they could to make us root for them and show us that Dawson and Joey could never make it work as much as they may want to.
There are tons of other moments that I think support my little conspiracy theory on the writers always having J/P in mind from the start.
Again, I know logically that the story we've been told about how it all went down is probably the truth, but it just makes no sense to me based on how the show was written and cast!

2024.05.05 23:38 Wild_Butterscotch977 Theylor: a collection of major evidence

Theylor: a collection of major evidence
I’ve been eagerly awaiting the day someone makes a masterpost of theylor evidence but eventually I got tired of waiting and was too excited about the idea, so I decided to make it myself. I pulled together things I thought of myself and also culled information from past posts and comments that discussed it. I’m interested in hearing what evidence people think should be added to this collection. I tried to credit things that I found from other posts, but please let me know if I missed something and I’ll credit.
So first, what is theylor? Theylor is the theory that Taylor is gender expansive. Just like gaylor doesn’t necessarily prescribe what brand of queer taylor is, theylor doesn’t necessarily prescribe a specific gender identity. There are many possibilities including nonbinary, genderfluid, genderqueer, transmasc, bigender, etc. Although I don’t argue for any specific label – because we don’t know – I do discuss quite a bit the idea of a masc or male side versus a femme or female side, because I think a lot of evidence suggests that.
A note on pronouns: I spent a while trying to decide if I should use they/them pronouns. It felt appropriate given that this is a theylor post, and as a nonbinary person myself who uses they/them pronouns, I kind of wanted to. But not all gender expansive people use they/them pronouns, and as I stated above, there are many categories and labels that she could fall under. Moreover, “theylor” isn’t the theory that she specifically uses they/them pronouns – it’s the theory that she’s gender expansive, and that could include a variety of possibilities regarding pronouns. For instance, genderfluid and bigender people often switch back and forth between he/him and she/her or use both; some might additionally use they/them and some might not. Ultimately I took my cues from Taylor Nation who uses she/her pronouns for Taylor. As far as we know those are her stated pronouns and I chose to respect that.
Another important note: I want to say from the start that I fully recognize that some of this evidence can also be read as masc lesbian/wlw. That’s completely valid. But there are certain things that can’t fit so easily into that category. So I hope that skeptics will consider this with the same view that gaylors take with gaylor evidence: that certain things in isolation perhaps can be explained away, but the collective mountain of evidence is much harder to ignore.
Here we go.

Midnight Rain
On Midnight Rain Taylor synthed her voice so it sounds like it’s male, which alternates with her regular voice. This male voice is still singing from her POV, because they repeat the exact same chorus lyrics, so it doesn’t seem as if it’s intended to be an imitation of a duet involving two different people. Instead it sounds like the masc and femme sides of her are both chiming in.
The lyrics themselves can also be interpreted as theylor-coded.
He wanted a bride / I was making my own name / Chasing that fame
The hidden male side of her wanted to unite with the rest of her so she could be her authentic self, but she desired fame and to achieve all these dreams – and knew that to do so she’d have to hide away that male or genderqueer part of herself.

Using men as mirror images of herself in music videos: Style, Willow, and Fortnight
Style mv
There could be an entire theylor post devoted to the Style mv alone because it’s so loud. It has some of the most explicit and extensive theylor evidence of any mv she’s ever made.
Both Taylor and the male lead hold up mirrored shards to their face, and the other person is reflected back. For example, the man holds up a shard to his mouth and Taylor’s mouth appears instead. This suggests that they are two sides of the same person.
There are also several instances where her image gets cracked and fractured. In most of these she’s alone; in the one scene where the man can be seen as well, they’re not interacting and they look like they’re in two separate places. The cracking of the surface of these images indicates that when they’re separated, her true self is fractured, broken, and incomplete.
screenshots from Style: holding up mirrors and cracked images
Images of the man are superimposed on her face, hands, and body; and images of Taylor are superimposed on him as well. There’s a particularly interesting scene where we first see her face, and then she raises her hands so they cover her face, and the man’s face appears superimposed on her hands, echoing the mirror shard images.
In a similar vein, there are a couple different scenes where the man is looking out at the ocean from within her silhouetted body and head. In conjunction with the other scenes, this suggests the man lives within her.
One of the most explicit scenes is when the man is driving a car, and he looks in the rearview mirror and we see that it’s actually Taylor driving.
screenshots from Style: superimposed images and Taylothe man driving
Lastly, the actor playing the male, Dominic Sherwood, has heterochromia, which is when someone is born with two different eye colors. I think he was chosen for this role deliberately, and that the two eye colors might represent two different sides of her gender identity. This is supported by another scene where his eyes are superimposed on her outstretched arms, one on each side.
screenshots from Style: heterochromia
All these examples suggest that she and the man are the same person – male and female in the same body.

Willow mv
Willow contains a series of scenes where a man mirrors her in different ways.
First, Taylor looks into the water and sees a man reflected back where her own reflection should be. This is one of the clearest pieces of visual evidence in support of theylor, similar to the rearview mirror example in Style.
Willow mv: looking in the water and a man is her reflection
She plays with the child-male version of herself and then he disappears and she’s sad and confused. There’s a great deal of evidence suggested in the following sections of references to her losing or being separated from her male side.
Willow screenshots: playing with the boy and then he disappears
There are multiple scenes where they hold their hands up to each other like they are mirror images, and then at the end they clasp hands and walk out together into the daylight.
Willow screenshots: holding her hand up to the man's and then they walk out together

Fortnight mv
The theory that Taylor and Post Malone are the same person was brilliantly covered by u/18hundreds in this post; she has his tattoos, they wear the same clothes, etc. However I disagree with that post’s conclusion that male figure represents the public Taylor, the clean version that she presents to the world. Rather, I think that Post Malone represents the male or masc side she’s hiding.
One of the most important scenes is when Taylor is given pills from a bottle labeled “FORGET HIM” and the bottle shows dates covering her whole life, from her birth to the date that the music video was published. Since it starts from birth, this certainly can’t represent forgetting a dude she dated. However I think it also can’t represent the public Taylor because there was no public Taylor the day she was born, nor was there for several years after that. However, if she sensed that she was born with a masc side or a male inside of her, and she was socialized to be and act like a girl, and instinctively understood that she had to hide that queer male part of herself, then the dates make more sense.
Additionally, the two streams of lesbian-flag and gay-flag colored light that float out of the two typewriters and become an explosion of white when they meet may represent both the masc and femme sides of her that are equally contributing to her work. When they are united, when she is whole, is when she is strongest.
Fortnight screenshots: Forget him pills and the streams of light
Lastly, there’s a callback to the Style mv, where the sheets of paper are shaped like her silhouette and she and the masc version of herself are lying in the middle. This mirrors the Style scene where the man appears inside of her head.
Fortnight and Style screenshots that echo each other

Me! music video
Right at the line “and there’s a lot of lame guys out there” there are several different men falling from the sky. Among them is Taylor. Credit for this is u/Front-Inevitable7767 here.
Taylor falling in Me!
The suit and hairstyle in one of the scenes is also extremely masculine:
Me! screenshot: taylor in a suit
Even more interestingly, she alternates masc and femme outfits in the mv, starting with ultra femme in the white skirt, then the masc yellow suit, then the femme pink dress, then the suit and shorts cowboy boots combination, and ending with the femme paint dress:
Alternating masc and femme outfits in Me!

You Need to Calm Down music video
One of the first scenes is of a framed painting with the quote, “Mom, I am a rich man.” Though this is a Cher quote, it’s also extremely theylor-coded.
YNTCD screenshot: Mom I'm a rich man

Mean music video
In the Mean mv, Joey King is wearing a dress with a blue bow and isn’t accepted by all the other girls wearing pink bows. This might symbolize the masc side of Taylor not being accepted by society or in the music industry. There are many other ways that Taylor could have visualized a girl not fitting in with other girls. But she specifically distinguished them using only colors that are widely considered representation for the two binary genders.
Joey King in Mean and the blue and pink bows
In the mv for I Can See You, in the hall where Taylor’s old outfits are locked in glass closets, the young girl’s dress with the blue bow appears again:
Same dress in ICSY
This suggests that her masc side is closeted along with her gay side.

The Man
Both the song and mv. An entire work about if she was a man. Performed in full drag.
The use of ‘was’ versus ‘were’ in “if I was a man” is interesting. I’m not certain how much stock to put in this one because of the scene in Miss Americana where she’s writing this line and she goes back and forth between them, seemingly based solely on how they sound. But they have two different usages in proper English grammar.
Sourcing from the grammar.com page on this, “if I was” is used when it’s a situation that could have happened. “If I were” is used for a situation that could never happen, an imaginary scenario, something that couldn’t ever be true.
If you consider her to be cis, then she’s using the wrong one. In that case it should have been “if I were a man” because it’s an imaginary and hypothetical situation. But she used “if I was a man,” indicating a situation that could have happened.

Taylor Nation called her “The Man”
TN calls her \"The Man\"

Delicate
Although I’m trying to keep this whole post muse-free because muses aren’t all that relevant to theylor, I wanted to include this comparison between the Delicate scene where Taylor gets on the train to Dianna’s performance on The Killer’s mv for “Just Another Girl,” because I suspect this is being referenced based on the similarities. And most relevant to theylor: Dianna is in drag.
Taylor in Delicate and Dianna in drag in Just Another Girl

I Bet You Think About Me
There was a great analysis by u/Sea_Dress_8957 that the groom in the mv represents Taylor and her masc side, and that in the song she’s talking to herself. I won’t rehash the evidence that’s already listed in that post, but one thing to add is in the mv’s opening scene with all the men lined up at the urinals, one of them is wearing a skirt, certainly implying gender nonconformity and possibly genderqueerness too.
This comment by u/SubwayGirlsInTheMan in that post also points out that the groom and The Man are wearing the same shoes, further connecting these two mvs, in addition to the halos around the groom’s head and the Man’s head.

Ready For It? and the two Taylors
In RFI, the two Taylors hold up their hands to each other, echoing the scenes in Willow with the man:
RFI screenshot that was echoed in Willow scenes
The two Taylors, which appear in more videos than just RFI, have been discussed a lot. They are usually taken to represent the public Taylor versus the private Taylor. But from a theylor perspective they can also symbolize the masc and femme sides of her, and her struggle to reconcile and unite the two. If Willow is visualizing that with the way their hands are held up to each other on either side of glass, then the fact that the two Taylors did the exact same motion in RFI is interesting.
The two Taylors also reminds me of the very gay, very masc outfit she wore as she exited the stadium after the Eras tour in Vegas. The vibe of the outfit is a stark contrast to the costumes in the tour and some of the outfits she wears on pap walks, and I always think of it when considering theylor.

The Joker and the Queen King
The lyric video for Ed Sheeran’s “The Joker and the Queen” shows Taylor wearing the king’s crown.

Fearless TV cover
On the OG Fearless cover, Taylor’s wearing a white dress and looking to her right. But on the TV version, she’s wearing a shirt that looks very similar to Romeo’s shirt in Love Story, and she’s also looking in the opposite direction, to her left. By doing this she’s rewriting the Fearless narrative to position herself as a man, Romeo, and creating a visual distinction from the very femme OG cover.
Fearless TV cover and Romeo

King
Phoebe Bridgers called Taylor “king” in an interview, then did it again on an Instagram story. Gracie Abrams also called her “king.” Note that Taylor also called Lana “king” which might take away from this theory but there’s a lot of masc words being tossed around nonetheless.

“A Girl Named Girl”
As a 14 year old, Taylor wrote a novel called “A Girl Named Girl” about a mother who wanted a son but got a daughter instead. Seemingly a whole book about gender and disappointing a parent.

US census comments
In 2020, Taylor made comments on a video where she was angry that the US census only had male and female options, saying how upsetting “the erasure of trans and nonbinary people” was to her. Video can be found at the 11:28 timestamp.

The male perspective
She writes and sings from the male perspective in a lot of songs, including betty, dorothea, Mine, Our song, Love Story, and Speak Now.

jaMEs
She wrote herself as James in betty (which gaylors were already confident about) and then she went and confirmed it during the TTPD clue hunt in lyrics by capitalizing ME in “jaMEs” when there were other M’s in the preceding words that she could have used instead.
jaMEs

Named after a man
She was named after James Taylor and likes to talk about that.

She’s the Heartbreak Prince
She’s the Heartbreak Prince. The lyric goes, “It’s you and me…Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince.” In English, the order of the pronouns in the first clause reference the respective order of their subjects. So the ‘you’ is Miss Americana and the 'me” is the Heartbreak Prince.

Mandolin
She wrote an unreleased song around the age of 13 called “Mandolin,” about a guy who plays the mandolin. It was written almost entirely in third person using he/him pronouns. But in the outro of the song she reveals she’s the man when she says “I’m the guy who plays the mandolin.”

Congressman in Anti-Hero
She’s a congressman, not a congresswoman.
Did you hear my covert narcissism / I disguised as altruism, like some kind of congressMAN.
The line actually would have been more balanced if she had used congresswoman because then it would have had the same number of syllables as both “narcissism” and “altruism” but she chose to use congressman instead.

Willow
There could also be a whole post analyzing Willow lyrics through a theylor lens.
The more that you say / The less I know / Wherever you stray I follow / I'm begging for you to take my hand / Wreck my plans / That's my man
The more her male side presents himself – the stronger he grows inside her head – the more confused she is about her identity. But she follows him anyway because that’s the way her authentic self lies. She wants him to take her over, to embrace her queer self, and thus wreck all the plans she had for her career which require her to closet. That’s my man, she says. She says it exactly 13 times in the song.
The original voice memo of willow is very close to the final version, however there’s an interesting change. The very last phrase in the song replaces “that’s my man” with “that’s my myth.” This is at 3:33 in the linked video.
The definition of myth from wikipedia: “Myth is a genre of folklore or theology consisting primarily of narratives that play a fundamental role in a society, such as foundational tales or origin myths.”
Her man is part of her origin story.
Now this is an open-shut case / Guess I should've known from the look on your face / Every bait and switch was a work of art
Now that her identity is clear to her, she realizes in retrospect that she should have seen it all along. She was an egg and now she’s cracked. Every time her man surfaced to lure her in, ultimately made her who she is.

Dear Reader
So I wander through these nights / I prefer hiding in plain sight / My fourth drink in my hand / these desperate prayers of a cursed man
One of the clearest instances of her referring to herself as a man. And the statement is all the more stark and meaningful by existing in the same line as her telling us she hides in plain sight. Probably the most honest line in her entire oeuvre and she calls herself a man in it.
On the first night in Tokyo at the Eras tour, Dear Reader was one of the surprise songs. And in this performance she changed the lyric in this line to “these restless tears of a cursed man.” Both gaylor- and theylor-coded. Tears because she can’t be her true self. The restless man wandering in the closet.

Cowboy Like Me
Calling herself a cowboy. I think this one is obvious.

Teardrops On My Guitar
And there he goes, so perfectly, the kind of flawless I wish I could be
Interesting that it’s the guy in the song that she wishes she could be like.

Tim McGraw
When you think Tim McGraw, I hope you think of me” is theylor-coded to begin with. When you think of a man, I hope you think about me.
But her original lyrics had a slightly different version of this line that makes the theylor of it all go even harder: “When you think Tim McGraw, I hope you think me” (instead of “hope you think OF me”). This seems to take it to the next level: in the final version Tim McGraw reminds the muse of her, but in the original, she’s actually standing in for him.
“Tim McGraw” was also interpolated into “cowboy like me”, thus connecting the songs.

The Story of Us
“The Story of Us” was referenced in the TTPD installation as a notebook with a huge “US” lettered on it. It turns out it was an easter egg (lol obv) because the same notebook appeared in the Fortnight mv. The original song may or may not have intended theylor clues, but in retrospect the lyrics seem quite coded, especially in light of the appearance in the Fortnight mv, which I theorized above was about two versions of herself, the male and the female.
And the story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now / And we're not speaking and I'm dying to know / Is it killing you like it's killing me?
The story of “us” is her male side having to be hidden away and closeted; that’s her tragedy. They’re “not speaking” because she has to live separately from that part of herself.

Cardigan
Tried to change the ending / Peter losing Wendy, I / I knew you
I think she’s both Peter and Wendy in this line, representing the two sides. Peter is alone in the closet while Wendy, her femme side, is exposed to the world. Peter is left behind because she can’t be her complete self.
This also fits perfectly with the song Peter.

Peter
“Peter” seems to be a callback to the Cardigan reference. The whole song can be read through a theylor lens.
Forgive me, Peter /My lost fearless leader / In closets like cedar / Preserved from when we were just kidsSaid you were gonna grow up / Then you were gonna come find me
Peter is her male side that she had to hide away in a closet, specifically a cedar closet. Ceder closets are used to preserve clothes, because the smell that cedar wood gives off repels the bugs that eat holes in clothing. She’s had to keep that side of herself in the cedar closet so he’s preserved for later when they’re at the point that they can be united.
The “fearless leader” phrase is also a callback to The Man, “I’d be a fearless leader,” which deepens the theylor connection.
There’ve also been some other analyses of Peter through a trans lens.

But Daddy I Love Him
BDILH has major theylor undertones. The entire song can be interpreted as a metaphor for wanting to others to accept a gender identity that’s different from the one they think you should have.
The bridge is particularly coded:
God save the most judgmental creeps / Who say they want what's best for me / Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I'll never see / Thinking it can change the beat / Of my heart when he touches me / And counteract the chemistry / And undo the destiny / You ain't gotta pray for me / Me and my wild boy
This could refer to the desire to embrace her male side, her wild boy. That the idea of uniting with him and being her authentic self – her destiny – is what makes her heart beat. Them being together is, for her, the ultimate chemistry.

Down Bad
Similar to BDILH, Down Bad also is very theylor. Some select lines:
"What if I can't have him" / "I might just die, it would make no difference" / Down bad / waking up in blood / Staring at the sky, come back and pick me up / What if I can't have us
She feels like she might die if she can’t be with her male side.
They'll say I'm nuts if I talk about the existence of you
This line is particularly loud to me. What romantic interest (gay or straight) is so ridiculous that people say she’s nuts for talking about that person’s very existence? It makes far more sense that she’d think people think her nuts if she talks about a male or masc person who lives within her. Her twin.
Like I lost my twin / What if I can't have him
Similar to the above line, it’s a little odd to refer to a romantic interest as your twin. Not impossible, given she’s likely dated three blonde women who all vaguely look like her, but combined with the other lines, I think this is theylor-coded. What if she can never be united with the male twin within her.
There might also be a twin connection in “The Albatross”, because male and female albatrosses are essentially identical. Credit for this is u/1DMod here.
I'll build you a fort on some planet / Where they can all understand it
Obviously queer-coded in general, but I’d argue that being gender expansive today is less accepted than having a queer sexual orientation. There’s undoubtedly a significant number of homophobes who don’t like gay people, but there are massive quantities of people who flat out deny the existence altogether of trans and gender expansive people. So the idea of escaping to another planet where our identities are understood and accepted and normalized is very theylor-coded.
She also alternates saying “Fuck it if I can’t have us” and “Fuck it if I can’t have him” throughout the whole song. And she says “if I can’t have him” 13 times throughout the song, similar to the way she says “That’s my man” 13 times in Willow.

Guilty as Sin
Another song I could do a whole theylor analysis on.
This cage was once just fine / Am I allowed to cry? / I dream of cracking locks / Throwing my life to the wolves / Or the ocean rocks / Crashing into him tonight / He's a paradox / I'm seeing visions, am I bad? / Or mad? Or wise?
The cage is her male side being closeted and the pain that entails. She dreams of breaking the lock on the cage and letting him out so they can be united, which would mean, she fears, tossing out everything she’s worked for.
It’s easy to see how having both a male and female side could be construed as a paradox. Wondering if she’s crazy, if she’s bad, or just wise are emotions that are common to people trying to figure out their gender identity.
Without ever touching his skin / How can I be guilty as sin?
He’s not a person who she can touch. He’s a person who lives within her. Struggling with religious guilt around this makes a lot of sense.

I Hate It Here
Tell me something awful / Like you are a poet trapped inside the body of a finance guy
This is both trans-coded and theylor-coded, the idea of being trapped in a body you don’t identify with, or feeling different on the inside than you present on the outside.

Orlando by Virginia Woolf
In this novel, the main character, Orlando, transitions genders. This amazing post by u/AliceStanleyJr discusses some of the Taylor connections. In the novel, Orlando wrote a book called “The Oak Tree”; Taylor once compared her skin to oak tree bark, and she also performs Champagne Problems under an oak tree. Additionally, a comment by u/onemore_folkmore on that post pointed out that one of the Taymojis for “Tim McGraw'' is an acorn and underneath it says “Acorns don’t grow on acorn trees, they grow on oak trees.”
Some of the taymoji's for Tim McGraw, including an acorn
There are other Virginia Woolf connections, like this post by u/PomegranateNo3155 which links a short story to the carnations line in Maroon.

thanK you aIMee
I’m not sure who the first person to discover this was because I think I saw it on one of the megathreads, but u/-periwinkle reminded me that when you googled “thank you aimee” when the song first came out, the top result was a memorial page for the trans activist Aimee Stephens.

A Place in This World
A song about feeling alone, feeling different from others, and trying to figure out who she is. It’s sad the way she repeats “Oh, I’m just a girl,” over and over, like she’s forlorn to think of herself as just a girl.

Endgame
Big reputation, big reputation / Ooh, you and me, we'd be a big conversation, ah
If she came out as gender expansive, it’d be a HUGE conversation.
I wanna be your endgame / I wanna be your first string / I wanna be your A-Team
This could be read as the endgame to unite with her male side and finally be complete.

I Did Something Bad
There was a great post from an anon who did a transmasc analysis of IDSB and interpreted “They're burning all the witches even if you aren't one” as Taylor saying she’s not a witch, and thus not a woman, since she often uses witches as a metaphor for femininity. There’s a lot of other analysis so the whole post is worth reading.

I Think He Knows
I think he knows his hands around / A cold glass / Make me wanna know that body / Like it's mine
This could be interpreted as she wants to pretend she has a male body. It has similarities to the Teardrops On My Guitar line above.

Cosmo quiz
In the 2014 Cosmo quiz, she said, “If I were a boy for a day the first thing I’d do is be the best boyfriend EVER.” Definitely gaylor-coded but there are theylor overtones as well and is consistent with other evidence of her expressing jealousy towards men.

Acting Like a Boy
This is the name of an unreleased song that Taylor apparently wrote for Fearless.

Other Theylor posts
I wanted to close with links to some past theylor-related posts from this sub. If there are other good ones I missed, please let me know and I’ll add them.

2024.05.03 01:54 Available_Reason7795 The Yugioh dub is still the best children’s English anime dub, despite the censorship.

I believe that in my opinion that the Yugioh dub by 4kids was actually better than people said it was and it is still the best English dub for a children's anime, despite the fact that it was heavily censored and had major plotline changes. The dub still holds up even without nostalgia glasses because it was trying to not be a typical shonen anime like the original Japanese version and it is a perfect example of how to turn a shonen/shoujo anime for teens into an anime for kids in a correct manner. Now, let me tell you why most people still praise the Yugioh dub as one of the greatest English dubs ever, even it is a hack dub.
The first reason is the stellar dub voice cast and direction that 4kids has put out in high quality. All of the voices perfectly fit the characters naturally when they were cast and were having voicing the characters. Dan Green really brought the main protagionist Yugi Moto and Atem in distinct ways. He gives a deep and commanding voice to the Pharaoh Atem in which makes him a father figure to Yugi in advanced. He also gives a beliveable teenage vice to Yugi without sounding so old. Wayne Grayson gives Joey Wheeler a not cartoony Brooklyn accent that made him iconic for any line that he gives. Amy Birnbaum voice for Tea Gardner has to be my favorite because of how spunky and feniamine she brings in the character when she was given a moment to shine. For example, in episode 24, Birnbaum really nailed the anger and sadness better than the sub va when she stood up against Kaiba for mocking Yugi when Yugi lost to him, and that felt so emotional and real to me when she yelled at Kaiba. Greg Abbey fits perfectly as Tristan Taylor with that teen suave voice that he portays. Megan Hollingshead plays Mai Valentine with a sexy and husky voice that was really perfect for the character. Ted Lewis brought an extraordinary British accent to both sides of Bakura and makes him sound more manly. Finally, the voice that made me automatically watch only the dub is Set Kaiba's dub va, Eric Stuart. Eric Stuart really had the most quotable lines out of all of anime dub history and his voice is what Kazuki Takahashi envisioned for the character.
The next reason for the dub still holding up is to do with the stellar writing in the dub's scripts. The humor was written well and did not feel cartoony for the most part. The writing from the dub made the anime stand out from other shonen anime dubs and make it not a typical shonen anime like DBZ or One Piece. The name changes for the character actually made sense compared to other dubs from the 90s and 2000s (excluding Digimon).
The final reason of why this dub is still watchable was the dub's music and songs that are still high-quality to this day. The dub music fits the series way better than the Japanese music/songs. The BGM for the dub is still one of 4kids' best dub replacement music ever alongside Pokemon and Mew mew Power. The vocal soundtracks that they made (Music to duel by and Pyramid of Light movie) were filled with banger 2000s songs that range from, pop punk, techno, and Disney/Broadway styled songs. Two of my favorite songs from the soundtrack "Music to Duel By" are "We'll Be there" and "Face Up, Face Down" because they remind me of the Disney Renaisance era so very much and the dub voice actors are also wonderful singers.
So to conclude, the Yugioh dub is till worth watching to this day for a 2000's children's English anime dub. It was the reason why Yugioh became popular in the US and created Little Kuriboh's Yugioh Abridged. I hope that everyone should rewatch the dub and see that it was still watchable despite the censorship and rewrites that 4kids did.

2024.05.01 02:44 Available_Reason7795 The Yugioh dub is still the best children’s English anime dub, despite the censorship.

2024.05.01 01:12 TauNkosi The year is 2028. House Of Ashes has been revealed for a full remaster/remake.

All the actors have returned. There are new scenes, paths, and different possible endings outside the Eclispe fight. What do you hope to see most?
For me personally, I hope to see Merwin, Joey, and Clarice become playable characters and have them make it all the way to the end. I would also love to see the infected status effect expanded on, similar to how it was in The Qaurry except there is no turning back unless they get cocconed (which would only be possible if they got infected towards the end).

2024.04.30 09:47 Minimum_Living_9961 i cant stand YuGiOh 5ds...

So I decided to rewatch all of YugiOh. and I mean ALL OF IT. from duel monsters to Go Rush. i grew up watching Duel Monsters and always loved it (toons were my favorite). Tbh Yugi was never my FAVORITE character, but i didn't mind him too much as a protagonist. However, the "side kicks" were chef's kiss. Joey is so cool. Sure he relies a lot on luck, but his personality and Brooklyn charm make me want to be his friend. Tea is a little naive but she's a really good friend. Tristan is slightly forgattable and for the longest time i thought him and tea were siblings LOL. Mai...she still does it for me. So badass, and her and joey's relationship is my favorite. Kaiba is the best antagonist in anime history. enough said.
I loved the series a lot and even collected the cards like it was my job. So during the pandemic i decided to rewatch it along with GX. and OH. MY. GOD. i didnt realize what i had been missing. i was soooo hesitant to watch GX because i figured it would be really different from the original and it would be hard to remake a show that was so nostalgic. but to this day, i can say that Jaden Yuki is my FAVORITE yugioh character across the entire series. He's so cool, laid back, funny, and confident. His voice actor is amazing. GX is probably even better than the OG in my opinion. or they're at least equal at the very least.
So when i finished GX in 2020, i decided to watch 5ds and literally couldnt get through the 1st ep. idk what about Yusei makes me not invested in his journey. Listen, I know 5ds is like everyones favorite. so i figured there was something wrong with me. regardless i stopped watching and forgot about yugioh for a little while.
Cut to a few months ago when I decided YET AGAIN to rewatch the ENTIRE series from beginning to end without stopping. i knew it would be a hard mission with all the filler episodes. but i knew i had to do it. Rewatched duel monsters. loved it. (the big 5 arc gets a little repetitive). watched GX. (reminded me how awesome jaden). and then 5ds....yeah i was a little nervous but i decided to go for it. and sure enough i couldn't do it...i watched the first ep, then the second, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and then...i stopped. i hate it. i hate it so much. i dont like the motercycles. i don't like how dark it is when i don't believe the stakes are that high. theres literally no humor, no comedic relief characters (as far as i can tell). also what is a speed spell. I felt like 5ds put no effort into building up his story and jumped straight into duel after duel after duel. Its not even that the show is "bad", it just didn't do a good job of making me care about yusei.
everyone hates zexal. but i honestly enjoy it. Maybe its the nostalgia it gives me of GX (school setting), but even though Yuma is a QUESTIONABLE protagonist, i immediately cared about his story. the writers do a great job of developing his friends, Shark, and his relationship with astral.
so long story short, am i the problem when it comes to 5ds? is it as great as everyone says? and I just need to give it another chance?

2024.04.29 14:54 tasmextended Wu Tang: An American Saga - using all 3 seasons to make a feature length film (2hr49m)

The Hulu series was an amazing watch. Even through the inaccuracies and filler, a great, engaging story was told about the clan. But what if the Wu Tang Clan received the “big screen treatment” like NWA did with the ‘Straight Outta Compton’ film? Thats what I tried to accomplish with this edit.
I didn’t necessarily just cut the series down. I went through each episode from every season and made a new narrative out of the series.
There are definitely way too many changes to list. But I’ll try to list as many as I can.
Changes:
-the film starts out with a new opening montage I created using narration from the RZA alongside flashes from the film
-this opening montage is followed by the ‘Jack the Rapper’ performance. We see that ODB is mad at RZA, but don’t know why yet.
-midway through the ‘Jack the Rapper’ performance, the edit cuts to Bobby’s childhood living with his uncle (very shortened). We see a young divine, as well as the moment Divine uses his ‘drug hustle’ to buy his family a new house. These scenes lead us into the present timeline, before the clan was formed in 1991.
-When we jump to 1991, Divine is already in jail.
-Raekwon and Ghostface beef storyline is completely cut. From my understanding, the beef was fictional anyway.
-first act of the film focuses primarily on Rza making music, method man and haze, and divine eventually getting out of jail without direction. The rest of the Clan is also obviously introduced. The Tommy Boy stuff is extremely shortened, in fact the ‘labels’ episode is cut completely. After we see Bobby record “We Love you Rakeem”, there is a short time jump to 1992. No ‘Atilla’ storyline.
-Cut around Joey Badass’ scenes as Inspectah Deck. The newer actor scenes are used as Deck, as it would have been jarring to use 2 actors to play the same character.
-the Ohio storyline is cut out completely (for runtime sake) so no Rza in jail, no ghostface shot, also no rae shot in leg.
-the time jump goes straight to showing method man and inspectah hanging in the hallway ‘putting in work’
-Bobby is talked about finally coming back in town.
-we then see Bobby talking to divine about finding his own place. He talks to divine about the music business and divine is convinced to join.
-Inspectah going to jail is cut out, and the kid getting shot in front of method man is cut. The traumatic moment with Haze that happens earlier is enough motivation for method man/the clan to record.
-power buys the recording equipment and the group records ‘M.E.T.H.O.D MAN’. No side plots with Gza getting phone number, no ODB and landlord. Straight recording session.
-protect ya neck recording session: the stuff showing Bobby’s mind while making the beat is shortened and rearranged.
-recording is followed by the fever performance. The episode where they go to the colleges is cut out for the most part. The final scene of that episode where they hear themselves on the radio is still there.
-after the fever, we have a few recording sessions, followed by ODB and RZA fighting. We finally make it back to the moment at “Jack the Rapper”, and we now know why ODB was upset at RZA.
-when we cut to Jack the rapper again, there is a brief voiceover of the real Rza talking about the situation with ODB
-after Jack the rapper, we cut to 1995. There is no plot line with Rza and his girl. No plotline with Rza losing his music in a flood.
-ODB’s drug addiction is addressed and shown, though we don’t see him jump out of the window like in the show.
-ODB and RZA talk again, create shimmy shimmy ya, followed by the clan on the tour bus episode (shortened)
-ugod situation with son is shortened. A lot of the solo album stuff is shortened. There are none of the ‘allegorical films.’ They were dope but can’t really work in a film, they’re more standalone. We do see Raekwon talking about wanting to use the purple tape, as well as Gza talking about completing his album. Method solo album is mentioned, as well as inspectah wanting one.
-all of this followed by making Wu tang forever, followed by the final performance.
-final scene with the clan having thanksgiving dinner and taking a picture is shortened. This scene fades to real life footage of the clan sitting eating dinner (from the of mics and men documentary). Rza voice over saying that no matter how long it’s been, they’ll always be family ( something to that affect) We then see the real clan talking about ODB’s death.
-added childhood picture of ODB at the end with ‘in memory of’ text.
Final Runtime is 2hr49m
Well that’s a long list. And there are definitely WAY more changes. I mean, I cut down a 3 season 30 hour show into a 2hr49m feature film. You’ll just have to watch for yourself. I do recommend watching the actual show as well. There’s a lot of gems in there I had to cut out that I didnt want to, but it doesn’t take away from how great the series was.

Drive-Away Dolls (2024)
MLZ MAP (Score): 94.68 / Zedd MAP (Score): 90.69 / Score Gap: 3.99
New to Our Collection
IMDb Summary: Jamie regrets her breakup with her girlfriend, while Marian needs to relax. In search of a fresh start, they embark on an unexpected road trip to Tallahassee. Things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals.
Starring Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, Colman Domingo, Pedro Pascal, Bill Camp, and Matt Damon.
This film was a highly anticipated film around the Zedd homestead. We had planned a theatre visit, but did not make it, so I put in a pre-order for it and expected to have a long wait. It said likely to ship in December. It ended up being a great surprise when it showed up last week!
Directed by Ethan Coen and written by Coen and his wife Tricia Cooke, the idea of this film was born in the early 2000’s and took a long time to grow up all the way into a very adult-themed movie. This is not something to watch with your family, for sure.
Led by the two gorgeous but very different ladies, Margaret Qualley as Jamie and Geraldine Viswanathan as Marian, we truck off on an adventure in a not-so brand new Chrysler K-Car in order to get from Philadelphia to Tallahassee. Jamie needs to catch her breath after a nasty break-up, and Marian needs some fun, and how!
There are tiny but very key parts for Pedro Pascal, Miley Cyrus, and Matt Damon. Joey Slotnick is awesome as a slick-talking (he thinks) thug who looks only slightly like the actor from a sitcom that has stayed in our minds for some reason since it was on TV in the mid-1990’s called The Single Guy.
I agree with writer Tomris Laffly of RogerEbert.com when she says “There is a disarming what the hell, why notquality to Cooke and Coen's writing, with the carefree words and actions of Jamie and Marian jovially bouncing off the page and landing on the viewers' eyes and ears with the same jubilant vigor.”
A couple of the stars of the film might have some familiar qualities, if not names. Margaret Qualley is the daughter of beautiful Andie MacDowell and Beanie Feldstein is the younger sister of Jonah Hill.
It was a seriously fun film, with a decent amount of love, sex, travel, food, and a wonderful MacGuffin. Our stars really get a head in this adventure, but all in all, Zedd notes that it feels like there is a tiny something missing (and he’s not talking about the thing NOT in the case.)
I believe we’ll grab this off the shelf again soon and Movie On with these fantastic ladies. After all…as long as we’re here…
((Marian: We don't need to see the world's largest Dixie cup.
Jamie: We don't need to enjoy life, but as long as we're here.))
