2024.05.14 02:31 ThatBroadcasterGuy White aesthetic build to replace my 2011 potato PC ($1500 budget)

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Gaming first and foremost, but I also plan on doing some streaming and video editing. I plan on playing some AAA titles (Cyberpunk, MS Flight Simulator 2020 etc.) but mostly indie titles. Essentially, I want to run modern AAA titles at 1440p at max settings at over 120fps and in 4k at decent framerates (above 60fps) as well.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$1500, though I'm willing to go a little above this if necessary.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Within the next month or so.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
The case (and everything in it) plus a keyboard (preferably lighted) and 1440p monitor (my current one is only 1080p).
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
USA. The nearest Microcenter to me is hours away sadly.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I already have a perfectly good mouse I can use.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
I don't plan on doing that until I'm more experienced.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I would like a 2TB SSD to be included, even though that may be overkill.
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
WiFi.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
I'd like to have a white aesthetic for the build, if only because my current potato PC is black. That said, I'd prefer a white case with tempered glass windows at the front and side with RGB fans similar to the Apevia PRISM.
The components themselves should also complement the white aesthetic, except for maybe the motherboard, GPU and PSU. Therefore, some white cable extensions might be in order.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No.
Extra info or particulars:
From watching videos of other white aesthetic builds, I've really fallen in love with the NZXT Kraken Elite RGB AIO cooler as it has a LCD screen to monitor temps and display whatever you want,. However, if that blows the budget up too much I'll gladly go with a regular RGB air cooler if that would be sufficient and there are probably other ways of monitoring temps. I hope that preapplied thermal paste is standard for CPU coolers as I don't want to have to worry about that right away.
Lastly, I would have researched this myself but navigating the literal ocean of different parts and combinations of said parts has proven to be overwhelming, especially for a noob like me.

2024.05.14 02:15 LittleGoblinJr64 Is This Zelda Pro Controller Legit?

Hi,
I recently purchased a Tears of the Kingdom pro controller as I am a huge Zelda collector. However, I am a bit nervous it is fake due to hearing about all the fake ones that are pretty good at passing as real. This fear is combined with the fact that the last one I purchased was an obvious fake, so I was very careful when I purchased this one. This is what I know from testing that points to it maybe being real.
-No blemishes on design. It is very clear.
-Packaging came normal. No faded packaging and everything it was supposed to come with was in the box.
-Controller lights are green (not orange like some fakes).
-Buttons feel normal and sound normal. Triggers buttons too.
-Controller updated when I tried to update it.
-Amiibo scan works.
-It can wake up the switch console with home button while it is disconnected.
-Smooth handles, no weird ridges like the fake I did have.
Things that concern me:
-Controller vibration is the same as one of my other pro controllers... but not quite as loud as another. It is consistent though with the sound they all make. Is it possible first party pro controllers are just naturally like that?
-Pushing down on the stick seems a bit looser... as does moving it around too. I did the circle test and it was normal and very accurate. I am also comparing it to two very old pro controllers so I'm not sure if this is just because it's new and the others are dusty and in bad shape in comparison.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me. I am trying my best to authenticate this as I have a short window to return it and dropped a lot of cash. I am clueless so I probably wouldn't be able to check out the motherboard of the controller or anything like that. I have attached photos if that helps (sorry if they came out a little wonky).
Thanks again!

2024.05.13 01:39 ThatBroadcasterGuy White aesthetic build to replace my 2011 potato PC ($1500 budget)

The case (and everything in it) plus a keyboard and 1440p monitor (my current one is only 1080p)
I don't plan on doing that until I know what I'm doing.
From watching videos of other white aesthetic builds, I've really fallen in love with the NZXT Kraken Elite RGB liquid cooler as it has a LCD screen to monitor temps and display whatever you want, so I'd like to have that included in the build if possible.
Lastly, I would have researched this myself but navigating the literal ocean of different parts and combinations of said parts has proven to be overwhelming, especially for a noob like me.

2024.05.12 22:36 AONomad [WTS] Diplomat Nexus (A2), Sailor x Yoseka Refresh (B)

Two pens for sale today!
Diplomat Nexus, Black Withdrawn
Nib size: Fine; Condition: A2; Price: $285 (open to offers)
Photos: verification, barrel closeup, nib closeup, writing sample closeup
Other info: I literally just received this today. I ended up liking it so much that I decided I'm going to buy the demonstrator version instead! It writes way better than my Diplomat Excellence. This fine nib puts down a nice, saturated line that's comparable to Diplomat and Lamy's medium, but it definitely feels more controlled without feeling dry.
Sailor x Yoseka Refresh (Pro Gear version)
Nib size: Broad; Condition: B because of a slight blemish, otherwise would be A2; Price: $400
Photos: verification, barrel closeup, nib closeup
Other info: the cosmetic damage (videoclip here) looks like a slight smudge, almost like a vertical fingerprint mark, but sadly it doesn’t come off with cleaning so it is in fact some sort of physical damage! There’s no physical bruising or texture difference in the damaged area, it’s just a visual discoloration.
I can't detect it at all in normal indoor lighting conditions. In sunlight (indoors near window) it's barely visible, only noticeable if you're looking for it and still takes keen eyesight. It's only easy to spot under a bright direct light (the first time I had noticed it was when I shone a super bright light on it to take verification pictures).

2024.05.12 22:04 popcodswallop [WTS] VINTAGE • 1930s-40s Italian and French Wet Noodles (Superflex-Wet Noodle): (2) Montegrappa Extras Aurora Selene Astura Nova Novo Retrofit (3) Edacotos Mercury w/ Sticker •

This week’s vintage batch of Italian and French pens from my own collection might be the largest bunch of Wet Noodles I’ve ever offered! Nibs range from Superflex to Wet Noodle with more than half of the pens being the latter. As you can see, my collecting focus was pens with white metal trim, which all 9 pens have. Some uncommon models here, especially if you’re in the US. As always, all are fully restored and ready to write.

ALBUM & TIMESTAMP

Pastable link: https://imgur.com/a/qzjdJeU

Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs/seals installed in the last couple months. Each of these pens is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.
THESE PENS HAVE NO CRACKS, CHIPS, PERSONALIZATIONS, LOOSE OR MISSING PARTS, BENT NIBS, MISALIGNED TINES, BROKEN/WORN OFF TIPPING, OR THREADING ISSUES.

Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have started to adopt the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.2-1.9mm); Superflex (>2mm). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue.

1. 1930s-40s Montegrappa Extra (green marble w/ lizard skin window, celluloid, NPT, piston filler, SS F/M Flex/Superflex nib). This full-sized model measures 5 1/16” capped. Founded c.1912 in Bassano del Grappa, Italy by Edwige Hoffman and Heinrich Helm, Montegrappa (née Elmo) was one of the Big Four Italian makers whose products have had a profound impact on FP design to this day. The Extra was the premier model of the late-1930s and 1940s. This pen has the white metal trim and factory stainless steel nib that distinguish wartime pens in Italy during the restriction on precious metals to aid the war effort. Not a common pen to see Stateside. It’s a piston filler made of green marble celluloid with an eye-catching, transparent, lizard-skin-patterned window in the barrel for viewing ink-level. To fill simply rotate the filler-knob on the end of the barrel counter-clockwise to extend the piston, submerse the nib, then rotate the filler-knob clockwise to draw ink. To quote an Italian collector over at FPN: “Rule No. 1 about vintage Italian pens: Don't let steel nibs scare you off. Unless you're writing with hydrochloric acid, they're every bit as good as the gold nibs from the years before the gold ban.” The stainless steel Montegrappa Extra #4 nib in this pen is no exception, yielding Super-Flexible variation with Flexible softness. It lays down a smooth and consistent F/M line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.0mm) under moderate pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). A nib with particularly juicy flow that’s reliable over its full range of flex, making it a great choice for boldly shaded writing and calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent [B]. Nickel-plated trim is clean with no notable flaws aside from a bit of plating wear to the cap bands on one side of the cap (see timestamp photo). Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes aside from some fine scratches on the plastic between and below the cap bands. Barrel transparency is superb (DETAIL PHOTO). Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Feed is missing a couple fins from one side, which has no discernible effect on writing performance (see DETAIL PHOTO LEFT). This pen's filling mechanism was restored in the last couple years but does have a little quirk in filling I haven’t been able to diagnose. It fills near to factory capacity smoothly with no leaks, but one must be careful to avoid extending the piston all the way down to the bottom of the ink-view window. If extended all the way down, the bottom part of the piston loses connection with the top part, requiring the section to be unscrewed to help the piston back up with a pencil eraser while turning the knob. This is a straightforward process but annoying, so I’ve always chosen to fill to just 90% of factory capacity to avoid it. A scarce pen in a striking color pattern. Price: $320 $290

2. 1930s-40s Montegrappa Extra (green swirl w/ lined window, celluloid, NPT, piston filler, SS XF Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 1/16” capped. For more on Montegrappa and the Extra, see description of pen #1 above. This pen has white metal, wartime trim and nib, but it retains the elegant roller-clip distinctive of Italian pens of the 1930s – so likely late-1930s production. It’s another piston filler made of celluloid in an interesting, green swirl pattern with a transparent, lined window in the barrel for viewing ink level. To quote an Italian collector over at FPN: “Rule No. 1 about vintage Italian pens: Don't let steel nibs scare you off. Unless you're writing with hydrochloric acid, they're every bit as good as the gold nibs from the years before the gold ban.” The stainless steel Montegrappa Extra #4 nib in this pen epitomizes this statement, being a Wet Noodle with variation and softness comparable to that of a dip pen nib. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.3mm) under minimal pressure. Thin hairlines, astonishingly responsive snap-back that rivals the 14k dip pen nib in pen #5 below, and reliable flow over its full range of flex makes it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent [B]. Nickel-plated trim is clean with no notable flaws aside from a bit of plating wear to the cap bands on the same side of the cap as pen #1 above (see timestamp photo). Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any micro-scratches. Barrel transparency is excellent apart from a ring of staining (DETAIL PHOTO). Filling system restored with new cork in the last couple years - operation can be a tad stiff if it hasn't been used in a while so I recommend storage filled with water. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Price: $370 SOLD

3. c.1940 Aurora Selene (brown web, celluloid, NPT, button filler, Platiridio XF Wet Noodle nib). This is an oversized pen by vintage standards, having a thick girth and measuring 5 3/16” capped. Counded in 1919 by Isaia Levi and located in Turin, Italy, Aurora remains one of the most celebrated Italian makers. Introduced in 1940 amid Axis restrictions on precious metals, the Selene was their wartime button-filler and was marketed as “the pen for everyone.” In 1943 the Aurora factory was bombed by the Allies, perhaps contributing to this model’s short span of production. This example is made of celluloid in a fetching brown shell color pattern evocative of the 2nd-gen Eversharp Doric. Nickel plated clip and early-style cap bands with wider center band. One historically interesting detail of this pen is that its barrel bears the subtle heatstamped personalization of Lancia, the famous Italian auto manufacturer (see timestamp photo). To fill the pen, simply unscrew the blind cap, submerse the nib, and depress the metal button once (DETAIL PHOTO). This big pen has a strong fill and holds a lot of ink. As if the 2 pens above weren’t evidence enough of the quality of Italian steel nibs, the Aurora Platiridio #5 in this pen takes the cake. Not only is it a Wet Noodle with softness and flow rivaling that of a dip pen nib, but it’s capable of one of the widest max line widths I’ve ever measured. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to an incredible 5B? (approx 2.8mm!) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Even so, it retains a superbly responsive snap-back that gives one precise control over the line under any amount of pressure. That and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Note that due to the considerable space between the tines of this nib at full flex, Waterman Serenity Blue had trouble keeping the surface tension but my trusty Omas Grey solved the problem entirely, producing flawlessly reliable lines under full flex. So some experimentation with wetter inks might be in order. Condition: excellent+ [B+] assuming you take the “Lancia” marking as an interesting mark of historical provenance as opposed to a flaw. Nickel-plated trim is clean with no brassing or other notable flaws. ). Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any micro-scratches. Manufacturer imprint on the section is deep and fully legible. Price: $420 SOLD

4. 1930s-40s Astura Nova (grey pearl snakeskin, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k XF Superflex/Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 1/16” capped. Astura pens were made by S.A.F.I.S., a company in Turin (fd. 1926) that would come to be one of the most influential Italian pen makers of the early half of the twentieth century (MORE INFO). They’re best known for producing pens of considerably high quality such as Radius and The King. And this Astura follows suit. It’s made of celluloid in a particularly bold and pearlescent snakeskin pattern, complemented by nickel plated trim. 14k Warranted #3 nib yields Super-flexible variation with softness verging on that of a Wet Noodle. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.2mm) under very light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: fine [C]. Nickel-plated trim shows some brassing to the clip and some of the lower cap band, which has been factored into the price. Nib has a mark on one tine that's merely cosmetic, having no effect on durability or performance. Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any micro-scratches. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Another beautiful Italian pen and another lovely writer. Price: $280 SOLD

5. 1930s-40s Novo Retrofit (green moss, celluloid, NPT, button filler, 14k XXF Needlepoint Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 4 7/8” capped. The only maker’s mark on this pen is a barrel imprint that reads “Novo.” But I haven’t been able to determine whether that’s a make or a model or anything about it, for that matter. It’s clearly Italian, of a quality similar to the Montegrappas and Aurora above, probably originating from one of those conglomerates that collaborated with some of the major Italian makers. In fact, the clip of this pen is identical to that of pen #2. This pen is made of celluloid in an unusual, moss green color pattern with flashes of a brighter green. Nickel-plated trim with elegant roller-clip. This pen is a button filler. To fill the pen, simply unscrew the blind cap, submerse the nib, and depress the metal button once. This pen came to me nibless but with a very narrow section, so I equipped it with a smaller, 14k, iridium-tipped Aikin Lambert dip pen nib - adjusted and tuned to match factory performance. That nib is a Wet Noodle with killer snap-back. It lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.1mm) under minimal pressure (probably the softest nib of the batch) (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, effortless variation, surgically precise snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent+ [B+]. Nickel-plated trim is clean with no brassing or other notable flaws aside from perhaps a sliver or two of high-point wear on the apex of the faceted clip. Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any micro-scratches. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Price: $270 SOLD

6. 1930s-40s Edacoto 02 Retrofit (coral grey pearl, celluloid, NPT, button filler, 14k XXF Needlepoint Wet Noodle nib). This is a larger Edacoto model, having a thicker girth than standard and measuring 5 1/16” capped. Edacoto (née Edac) was French maker based in Paris from 1922 to the mid-1960s. Edacotos are well-made pens known for their unusual color patterns and distinctive waterfall clip design. This one is a case in point, being made in a grey pearl celluloid with a quasi-psychedelic color pattern resembling chatoyant coral that seems to shift when the pen is turned under light. This model’s size, filling system, and trim configuration situates it near the top of Edacoto’s lineup. It is a button filler. To fill the pen, simply unscrew the blind cap, submerse the nib, and depress the metal button once. It’s equipped with one of my dip pen nib retrofits: a large, 14k, iridium tipped E.S. Johnson that’s been adjusted and tuned to match factory performance. That nib is another Wet Noodle, laying down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to an impressive 4B+ (approx 2.5mm) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent+ [B+]. Nickel-plated trim is clean with no brassing or notable flaws apart from the top cap band having lost some of its original luster (I assume). Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any micro-scratches. Feed is missing a a fin from one side, which has no discernible effect on writing performance (see DETAIL PHOTO RIGHT). Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Price: $310 SOLD

7. 1930s-40s Edacoto (grey web, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, SS XF/F Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 4 7/8” capped. For more on Edacoto, see description of pen #6 above. This pen is made of grey web celluloid complemented by nickel plated trim with deluxe, triple cap bands. SS Edacoto 87 nib is yet another Wet Noodle with flow and softness comparable to that of a dip pen nib. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF/F line that widens to an impressive 4B+ (approx 2.5mm) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Effortless variation, strong snap-back, and reliably wet flow over its full range of flex make it another ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent [B]. Nickel-plated trim is clean with no brassing or notable flaws apart from a pin sized spot of wear on the lever and a couple on the cap bands on each side of the cap (see timestamp photo). Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any micro-scratches. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is weakened but fully legible. Price: $220 SOLD

8. 1930s Edacoto (grey pearl marble, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k F Flex/Superflex nib). This smaller model measures 4 5/8” capped. For more on Edacoto, see pen #6 above. This one is made of grey pearl marble complemented by nickel-plated trim. 14k Warranted nib yields Super-Flexible variation with Flexible softness. It lays down a smooth and consistent F line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.0mm) under moderate pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it a great choice for expressive and calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent/fine [B/C]. Nickel-plated trim looks clean with the naked eye but shows a peppering of wear under a loupe. Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes apart from subtle shrinkage of the cap that can’t be seen so much as felt when running a finger down it – merely cosmetic with no affect on how the cap screws on. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is weakened but fully legible. Price: $150 $140

9. 1940s-50s Mercury w/ Sticker (blue swirl, celluloid, NPT, button filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped. This mysterious pen has defied all my research efforts. It’s marked “Mercury” on the barrel in the usual place and “B-tg / SGDG / Made in France” farther up toward the section. It comes with its original price sticker, ehich reads “Mercury” and “225” penned in ink. This pen is made of a curious wrapped celluloid in blue and black complemented by heavy, white metal trim with “Bronze au Glucinium” stamped in the top of the spring-activated clip. Never seen trim made of this! Threads for the blind cap appear to be stainless steel. All this gives the pen a substantial heft in the hand. Super-Flexible 14k Mercury nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.0mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another great choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent+ [B+]. This pen is in pristine, museum-grade condition. Nickel-plated trim is immaculate with no brassing or other notable flaws. Celluloid is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes – scarcely even any micro-scratches. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel are deep and fully legible. Price: $240 SOLD

2024.05.12 00:02 synyster3 Prismatic Aug balance somehow feels way worse this set?

I've never felt prismatic aug being so annoying beofre.
Anyone else is super sick of prismatic lobbies or prismatic aug this set in general??? Early mid prismatic turns the lobby into a RNG fest.. who hits the broken aug wins..
without the 1,2 cost reroll to challenge them.. they streak for free then hit these insane capped board late and you just sitting there broke asf forced to find a comp thats uncontested with most of the units gone.
Also bad fight RNG screws you over even more than ever, fighting the giga high roller twice late game screws your placement so hard..
Last 12 ranked games plat lobbies, the 5 games without prismatic aug I went 1,2,5,2,2/// and the 7 prism aug games I have not top 3 once.. not saying I can't place high in prism aug games, its just the games are way more volatile in nature, your skill + knowledge about the game goes out the window..

2024.05.11 18:10 ctybtfl [USA-IL] [H] Lenovo Legion Pro 7i w/ 4080 [W] PayPal, Local Cash

I purchased this laptop from B&H in September 2023, thinking that I would be using it more than I actually have. Truthfully, it's been sitting on its laptop stand 99% of the time and I rarely use it. Because of that, it comes in pristine condition without a single blemish. It comes with all original packaging and accessories.
I purchased the laptop for $2,300 (more than happy to provide the original receipt) and looking to sell it for $1,800 shipped or $1,700 local pick up.

2024.05.11 01:01 Erwinblackthorn Greedy Hobbyists Are Parasites

We are no longer in an age of authenticity. The demand for “realness” has been replaced by a demand for digital daydreaming. From the instagram model using filters, to the youtube money guru renting out properties and fancy cars, there is more of a fake presence than a real existence online. People will say “this is the real me” while covered in hair dye and pointless piercings, declaring that they can’t be themselves without the aid of modernity. Or, better yet, the aid of postmodernity.
Profiles are used, mostly online, as a social means of determining what someone or something is. Profile pictures, profile descriptions, these are done as small snapshots of recognition for people to easily connect the dots for their main focus. It’s not that an author is only an author, but rather that is the profile they want to hold as a social position on social media. Then comes the question: Who determines they are such a person in the first place? What validates a profile outside of pointless keywords and gullibility?
As masters of mimesis, the artist is, ironically, easily mimicked through actions and production. The lack of an institution that gives the title of artist makes it even harder to determine who is and isn’t an actual artist. The definition of art being changed by whoever you’re talking to is also a clear and present way of allowing deception to go unnoticed. Fake artists are everywhere, we don’t have a social detection system to snuff them out, and so every artist is a valid artist. If you dare to question the validity of an artist by asking for proof or authentic actions, you will be quickly met with an onslaught of hobbyists and tourists determining that you’re being unfair.
The hobbyist, a word derived from the hobby horse, a word meaning “one who acts for the sole purpose of one’s own pleasure”, is something that becomes more present as free time and distractions increase. Technology performs half of our day for us, we spend more time in retirement, and the internet is one giant toy that’s plugged into other people’s screens. An increase in social boredom, as well as anti-social behavior, creates a dramatic amount of enclosed activity done in one's room, but out in the open for all to see. As the windows are shut and the curtains are drawn closed, the computer window is opened and the content is uploaded. It has come to the point where a child, one who doesn’t even comprehend the concept of online activity, will be filmed daily by their parents in order for the parents to make money off of their interaction with different toys.
And yes… I’m referring to the cursed content that is Ryan’s World.
To understand the phenomena of “capitalizing on hobbies”, it is important to understand the economic situation we are given. People don’t like to work, they are told they don’t have to work, and they would rather sit in their house all day doing nothing. I know, I’m one of those people. My back hurts, video games are more fun, I don’t want to follow a schedule, and dealing with customers is a headache. When provided an alternative, you’re damn right we are going to seek the easier route, even if it offers a vague hint of failure or loss.
This is why people buy lottery tickets and gamble at casinos: they are seeking the easy way out and find that slim chance of success is worth the cost. $5 today could become $500,000 tomorrow; but being short sighted and impulsive turns that $5 a day into a daily $5 expense, or worse. Soon, the inclination becomes a habit, to then have the habit become addiction. Eventually, people who fall for the vague promise of wealth will fall into their own pit of undefeatable debt. All because they were distracted by the positives and couldn’t notice the massive amount of negatives that overwhelmed them.
It’s fine to enjoy a hobby, and it’s fine to put money into something that entertains you. Nobody is saying we have to be “strictly work and no play” for the rest of our lives. We don’t need any more Jacks going crazy in the Overlook Hotel. The point of a hobby is to do it by yourself, for yourself, and leave the rest of us out of it. If we are not involved, then do not involve us.
Sadly, this doesn’t happen due to two factors: greed and narcissism.
A youtube channel like Ryan’s World gets made from the sheer amount of narcissism a family requires in order to put their child on film and share it around to others. It is hoping that random strangers care about what your kid is doing, with the uploading family also hoping that there is money to be had from this endeavor. They were able to get millions of subs, I would never say it’s a failure. It’s one of the biggest youtube channels in the world, while offering the simple product of a kid playing with toys and doing trendy challenges. But the amount of greed and narcissism required to even begin this type of action, to then continue it, is practically inhuman.
Even though humans hold the will to power, it is abnormal to seek senseless celebrity as a majority of people. Online culture has created this artificial need for fame and clicks, utilizing the upvote and notification as a manipulation of our dopamine kicks. We are tricked into thinking online activity both means something and benefits us, in the same way we are tricked into thinking we feel good after eating junk food. Like junk food, we are getting too much waste and not enough nutrition, slowly destroying our bodies over time. There is a reason why youtubers always talk about taking “mental health days” and celebrities are always caught with drug use or simply go insane.
Humans feel safe when we are not noticed. Eyes upon us causes anxiety, in the same way a lion lurking in the bushes makes its prey scan around. One of the most common fears is public speaking, because being the focus of a crowd means you’re the target of numerous possible predators. Humans, under years of conditioning, must regain a child-like state of bliss to overcome this fear of being the center of attention, and this is usually done with processed narcissism. In the same way a rat is conditioned to no longer react to being shocked, by expecting the shock, there is a repetitive process of no longer feeling anxious when put into emotionally intense situations.
The hobbyist will wander online spaces, surrounded by fellow hobbyists, granting the same positive reinforcement to others that they would want others to grant them. Placing “hobbyist” as their profile would cause people to wonder “why is this person making it all about themselves”, yet casually declaring they are a hobbyist is met with people going “so am I, and proud of it”. The acceptance of authenticity means less than the profile presented as an identity, but only to the people who put identity before authenticity. If you act in one way, but claim you are another, postmodernism demands that we believe the words and ignore the actions. All this does is further narcissistic behavior as people learn to mimic phrases and religiously place themselves higher in the algorithm.
The interesting thing about narcissism is that it’s not about being famous because you hold a skill or purpose. It’s a demand to be famous for the sake of having eyes upon you. It is entitlement, which requires further deception to retain a presence among other entitled individuals who are socially conditioned to share the same goal. Babies are inherited with this mentality due to the helpless condition of being a baby, but an adult doing the same thing will appear as the parasite they are. Include this with the undying charity of anonymous altruism and we have a recipe of people pretending to be something they aren’t, all for financial gain.
The only type of artist the hobbyist can practice in is being a con artist.
This is all over the place in social media, with the main legal loophole being that they don’t necessarily take your money directly. The fine line between con artist and “fake it until you make it” is mostly obscured by the lack of hard evidence that the con artist took advantage of people in a way that stands out from the ocean of culprits. Grifters, shills, tourists, hobbyists, these are all things that get mixed and merged together at different levels and different areas of effect. Sadly, the hobbyist has the most protection because the hobbyist is seen as a “benign blemish” that could easily be subjectively warped into a beauty mark. In reality, the interloping of hobbyists is more like the brood parasitism of birds like the common cuckoo, having the real eggs switch out with the parasitic one and receiving a dead offspring in the process.
Sure, we can say it’s a bird and it needs to be fed, but it’s not the real bird that the feeding mother expected to take care of. Hobbyists pretending that they are selling a product, desperate enough to go through the hoops of buying covers and paying for editors, becomes an endless spiral of fake chicks being taken care of by unsuspecting caretakers. It’s not our fault that they decided to spend time on their hobby, yet they demand that we pay for their efforts and scold us when we don’t accept the unwanted product. The hobbyist quickly becomes a homeless person, panhandling for any change, hoping people see them as pathetic. Even if we do see them as pathetic and downtrodden, they then demand we foot the bill for their inability to make something to actually sell.
If someone is making something for free and all they ask for is my time, I have little to complain about. As stupid as I find Ryan’s World, at least they are not telling me I need to pay for their “service”, along with any other youtuber. But then we have books and video games made by hobbyists that don’t sell, to then have the hobbyist claim the entire world is evil and oppressing them. The appeal of global money, along with the benefit of anonymity, inspires too many desperate cuckoos to start throwing eggs around. Even actual artists are forced to claim “they were just doing their own thing” as a way to present a random unpreparedness, in fear that the hobbyists will cancel them.
The cuckoo hobbyists are not hard to detect, but they are hard to call out due to the false obedience to social democracy. Feeling outnumbered, fearing the wrath of downvotes or response videos; it’s hard to get people to speak out. It’s even harder to find an authentic artist in the bunch, as if nearly all the eggs are replaced by the parasitic ones. But, once you know what spots to find and colors to seek, you can easily know when you’re being conned. At that point, all you have to do is fight the urge to sympathize with crocodile tears and stay logical.
Do not let yourself get drained by the parasites, financially or emotionally.

2024.05.11 00:09 jnialt Can't connect to Minecraft LAN

hi! Cross posting from minecraft bc I didn't get a reply there. I'm having trouble connecting to my LAN server.
  1. Host is a PC with 1.20.6, LAN server has been played on before. I allowed Java through this firewall and marked the network as home
  2. Connection device is a SteamDeck on Prism 1.20.6, again has played on this server. It's for sure connected to the same Wifi
  3. I'm getting connection errors when I try to join
  4. it works when I turn off Windows Firewall on the host (but Java is already allowed)
can connect to non-LAN servers on the Deck, and direct connection didn't work either for this server.
what else might I need to check? thank you and lmk if any more info is needed!!!

2024.05.10 23:19 Phoenyx_Rose Struggling to optimize 1.18.2 Forge server

I set up a modified Life in the Village 3 server via Forge for myself and two others but I'm having a hard time getting it to not crash even with performance mods installed. It worked well enough the first time I set it up, but now with an upgraded RAM and GPU it just lags and crashes. \
What can I do to get this server up and running smoothly?
My hardware specs are: i7-4790 CPU @ 4.00GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, and 16.0 GB of RAM
I set my java arguments as -Xmx8G -Xmn128M. I haven't set anymore because I've found a lot of mixed information on what to add and don't quite understand what they do.
I've installed spark and couldn't get any useful information from it and can't seem to install Observable correctly as it just crashes on startup if I try to install it client side (it's installed server side, but I don't see it in the key bind menu).
My assumption is that my two main causes of lag are Alex's Mobs and Serene Seasons but when loaded into the game, even in a village I have only x/180 entities and have added the serene seasons fix which is supposed to help with the tick issue in that mod.
Edit: Should also add that the server consistently says that it's 40 ticks behind and that I crash most often when opening any inventory menus be it the player inventory, chests, or otherwise.

Caulk in the Washer
I have an exterior washer space I store tools in as well and late last night i put a big blanket in there and unknowingly knocked a tube of caulk in the washer. Any tips to get it out? Seems like there are solid bits of caulk on the inside of the machine. I think the quilt might be irredeemable but if theres a way to save it please advise.

2024.05.09 23:34 iCockatoo Can't install forge?

I'm not new to the modding scene by any means; I've played on a windows 10 laptop for a few years now, and never had problems installing Forge. Recently built a new pc and installed windows 11 (no license yet), and did the usual-install Java and download the installer .jar for Forge. Double clicking the installer does nothing but generate a log file, and if I make a RUN.bat with java -jar (filename).jar it opens a cmd window for a split second, then nothing happens. I did try jarfix, and I even got the version file from my laptop to try and manually install Forge, but no dice there either. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, I'm sure I've tried everything to get this to work. Wasn't too keen on getting Prism or Curseforge launchers either because I've done it through the regular Minecraft launcher for years with no problems. If anyone has any ideas on what to do here I'd greatly appreciate tips. Thanks ^^

2024.05.09 16:39 Low-Manufacturer-576 fps not getting higher than 30 (pls help)

A couple days ago I installed new ram, extra fans and an extra m.2 ssd. I deleted warzone and installed it on the new m.2 ssd and it worked perfectly fine, the morning after I tried to play warzone but my frames didn't go higher than 30 fps, the average is 18 fps now. I tried to reinstall it on the old m.2 ssd but it didn't improve. I tried to detache fans and look if it would improve, it didn't work. I already checked in the bios if my ram was on the right speed. I tried to take almost everything out of my pc and put it back together, but it didn't work. It is not only in warzone it is in every game I try to play. Before I upgraded the pc I had around 100 fps
my specs are:
Gigabyte b550 gaming x
Amd ryzen 7 3700x 8-core processor
Amd radeon rx 5700 xt (Gigabyte)
Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2x16GB 3200 MHz (new ram) + Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2x88GB 3200 MHz
Kingston A2000 1TB m.2 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSd (windows) + Samsung 990 pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD (warzone) the new one
Coolermaster MWE 80 plus gold 650 watt full modular
coolermaster fans 120mm 6x + AMD wraith prism cpu fan
iiyama 165hz 27 inch + Dell 60hz
Help me how to fix it pls

2024.05.09 15:34 LightBinding Upgrading build from 2022/3

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x with stock Wraith Prism cooler GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070ti Founders Edition (8GB VRAM) Motherboard: ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING RAM: 32GB in total at 3600mhz, split between: VENGEANCE® RGB PRO 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3600MHz Corsair VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz Wifi card: Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210 Fans: Corsair Commander Core XT connected to 5 LL120 RGB 120mm RGB LED PWM Fans Case: Magniumgear Neo Qube 2 IM, Dual Chamber ATX Mid-tower Storage: Two M2 ssds - 232GB for System, 1TB for games - and a HDD for backup 2TB Monitor: AOC 27G2U/BK - 1080p, 144hz, Gsync PSU: TX-M Series™ TX750M — 750 Watt 80 Plus® Gold Certified PSU
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Extra info or particulars:
Trying to solve any thermal performance issues - it's running a little hotter than I'd like..
Fans are set to 'Quiet' in iCUe, and CPU cooler in BIOS.
GPU is sitting at 56c at idle, ranges from 68 to high 70s at load, sometimes mid 80s. CPU sits at 61c idle, a little higher under load, mid 70s.
Very much open to suggestions - hope this post is ok!

I am kind of skeptical about the one on Amazon, but it's amazing price for the specs so i'm interested in it
